¤¤ 00:00:00.83\00:00:02.93 male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.57 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted and it's 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.90 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious 00:00:09.94\00:00:13.61 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.64\00:00:16.38 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.41\00:00:19.78 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.81\00:00:24.52 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.55\00:00:28.36 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.36 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.39\00:00:34.20 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.23\00:00:38.93 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.97\00:00:44.07 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.11\00:00:48.08 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.31 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends. 00:00:50.35\00:00:51.75 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.78\00:00:54.98 A married couple has a slightly higher chance of having 00:00:55.02\00:00:58.32 a baby boy than a girl? 00:00:58.35\00:01:00.46 About 51%. 00:01:00.49\00:01:02.46 Generally speaking across the globe, there are about 104 baby 00:01:02.49\00:01:06.26 boys born for every 100 girls. 00:01:06.29\00:01:09.50 Sadly, more females die in miscarriages but partly because 00:01:09.53\00:01:13.84 they take more risks, more boys die between birth and 18, which 00:01:13.87\00:01:18.11 would mean by the time they get to marrying age, there's a 00:01:18.14\00:01:21.91 perfect one for one ratio of boys and girls. 00:01:21.94\00:01:24.95 It is absolutely fascinating how God has designed things where 00:01:24.98\00:01:29.55 there's almost the exact same number as boys that survive to 00:01:29.58\00:01:32.89 marrying age as there are girls. 00:01:32.92\00:01:35.52 Science has no good explanation how random evolution could ever 00:01:35.56\00:01:40.00 account for this perfect ratio. 00:01:40.03\00:01:42.66 This also explodes the notion that it was God's plan for a man 00:01:42.70\00:01:46.10 to have multiple wives. 00:01:46.13\00:01:47.94 For one Adam, there was one Eve. 00:01:47.97\00:01:50.51 Jean Ross: Yeah, that's right Pastor Doug. 00:01:50.54\00:01:52.07 The Bible makes it clear that it was God's purpose that Adam and 00:01:52.11\00:01:55.01 Eve were to be united in marriage and that of course 00:01:55.04\00:01:57.98 through that wonderful relationship of marriage, we 00:01:58.01\00:02:01.62 have a type of the relationship that God 00:02:01.65\00:02:03.15 wants us to have with him. 00:02:03.18\00:02:04.65 In the Bible Christ is described as the bride, the church is 00:02:04.69\00:02:07.42 often--or as the groom, the church is often 00:02:07.46\00:02:09.59 described as the bride. 00:02:09.62\00:02:11.46 But you know when you think about it, it's very clear that 00:02:11.49\00:02:13.90 God has created marriage and he purposed marriage 00:02:13.93\00:02:16.56 from the very beginning. 00:02:16.60\00:02:17.83 When man tries to manipulate or change what God has established 00:02:17.87\00:02:20.97 the results are always bad. 00:02:21.00\00:02:22.57 Doug: That's right. 00:02:22.60\00:02:23.94 You know, Jesus made it pretty clear in Matthew 19 verse 4 00:02:23.97\00:02:26.98 through 6, "And he answered and said to them, 'Have you not read 00:02:27.01\00:02:31.35 that he that made them at the beginning 'Made them male and 00:02:31.38\00:02:34.25 female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his 00:02:34.28\00:02:37.45 father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two 00:02:37.49\00:02:40.99 shall become one flesh?' 00:02:41.02\00:02:43.19 So then, they're no longer two but one flesh. 00:02:43.22\00:02:46.03 Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man," put a 00:02:46.06\00:02:50.00 sunder or, "Man separate." 00:02:50.03\00:02:51.47 You notice it says, "A man will be joined to his wife." 00:02:51.50\00:02:56.14 Someone was teasing Benjamin Franklin once and they said, 00:02:56.17\00:02:59.67 "You can't show me anywhere in the Bible that says a man cannot 00:02:59.71\00:03:02.41 have more than one wife." 00:03:02.44\00:03:04.35 And Franklin said, "Well, that's easy, the Bible says, "No man 00:03:04.38\00:03:06.95 can serve two masters."" 00:03:06.98\00:03:08.65 So actually it does say that. 00:03:08.68\00:03:11.85 Anyway, welcome friends and if you'd like to be part of the 00:03:11.89\00:03:15.19 program tonight, we encourage you to give us a call. 00:03:15.22\00:03:17.76 It's 800-463-7297 and as 800, God says, we are streaming on 00:03:17.79\00:03:25.53 the internet and it's on Amazing Facts television. 00:03:25.57\00:03:31.37 What is it? 00:05:05.97\00:05:08.30 Gary--hi, Gary, yes, we can hear you. 00:05:08.34\00:05:11.84 Gary: Matthew 24 says in verses 6 and 7, "You'll see 00:05:11.87\00:05:15.18 plagues and pestilences, wars and rumors 00:05:15.21\00:05:16.98 of wars, earthquakes." 00:05:17.01\00:05:18.55 We're seeing plenty of that happen but I'm not seeing 00:05:18.58\00:05:21.32 Matthew 24:24 happen. 00:05:21.35\00:05:24.12 False Christ showing great signs and wonders to deceive. 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.99 Is that the final event before Christ coming or is the false 00:05:28.02\00:05:33.83 Christ performing signs and powers and wonders, 00:05:33.86\00:05:37.73 you know, to deceive? 00:05:37.77\00:05:39.07 Doug: Yeah, yeah. 00:05:39.10\00:05:40.40 It is going to be one of the great final signs that Satan 00:05:40.44\00:05:44.37 is going to impersonate Christ. 00:05:44.41\00:05:46.44 You know, the devil's accusation is God came to the earth 00:05:46.47\00:05:49.81 to show the truth in Jesus. 00:05:49.84\00:05:51.81 The devil is saying, "Well, I want to either possess a person 00:05:51.85\00:05:54.62 or create the illusion of a human to share my theory." 00:05:54.65\00:05:58.75 And so Satan is going to impersonate Christ and I'm sure 00:05:58.79\00:06:02.46 it will be accompanied with signs and wonders and some of 00:06:02.49\00:06:05.83 'em will be illusions, counterfeit signs. 00:06:05.86\00:06:08.70 The Bible talks about them being deceiving devils. 00:06:08.73\00:06:12.67 So yeah, I think that that is going to be one of the--now 00:06:12.70\00:06:17.54 there've been other times in history you've got people false 00:06:17.57\00:06:19.37 Christ that do miracles, or at least, I mean, there's some 00:06:19.41\00:06:22.21 televangelist out there that at least pretend to do miracles. 00:06:22.24\00:06:24.98 Some of 'em might use, you know, some kind 00:06:25.01\00:06:28.05 of supernatural demonic delusions. 00:06:28.08\00:06:32.05 It's hard to say, I think some are just plain frauds but there 00:06:32.09\00:06:36.79 can be false prophets through history. 00:06:36.83\00:06:38.83 Even the Bible speaks of in the time of the apostles was it that 00:06:38.86\00:06:42.03 magician Simon, they said he did many mighty things probably 00:06:42.06\00:06:47.30 under the power of the devil. 00:06:47.34\00:06:49.00 The magicians of the Pharaoh, they threw down their rods and 00:06:49.04\00:06:52.31 they became serpents or at least looked like it. 00:06:52.34\00:06:54.71 Jean: And Jesus said, with reference the last days, "There 00:06:54.74\00:06:57.05 will be those who say, 'Lord, Lord, did we not perform 00:06:57.08\00:06:59.55 miracles and cast out devils and do many wonders in your name?' 00:06:59.58\00:07:03.35 Jesus says, 'I never knew you.'" We do have a study guide, it's 00:07:03.39\00:07:05.85 called, 'Does God Inspire Psychics and Astrologists?' 00:07:05.89\00:07:08.42 And we'll be happy to send this to you. 00:07:08.46\00:07:09.79 Talks about the warning that we have about false Christ 00:07:09.82\00:07:12.49 spoken of in the Bible. 00:07:12.53\00:07:13.83 The number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:07:13.86\00:07:17.57 That is the resource phone line, you can just ask for the study 00:07:17.60\00:07:20.14 guide, 'Does God Inspire Psychics and Astrologers?' 00:07:20.17\00:07:23.91 And we'll be happy to send that out to anyone 00:07:23.94\00:07:25.57 who calls and asks. 00:07:25.61\00:07:27.34 Thank you, Gary. 00:07:27.38\00:07:28.68 We've got Anna listening in Oregon. 00:07:28.71\00:07:30.01 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:07:30.05\00:07:33.01 Anna: Hi, good evening, pastors. 00:07:33.05\00:07:34.52 Doug: Evening. 00:07:34.55\00:07:37.32 My question is, well, it's from two different books. 00:07:37.35\00:07:41.79 It's from Luke 17:6 and Matthew 17:20. 00:07:41.82\00:07:47.23 And it has to do with having the faith of a mustard seed. 00:07:47.30\00:07:51.37 If you have the faith as big as a mustard seed, you could 00:07:51.40\00:07:57.11 basically do anything. 00:07:57.14\00:07:59.77 And I just want you to maybe expound on that for me. 00:07:59.81\00:08:07.68 Doug: Yeah, of course. 00:08:07.72\00:08:09.32 Jesus talked about faith all the time. 00:08:09.35\00:08:12.15 So many times when Christ healed somebody, he never said, "My 00:08:12.19\00:08:15.69 faith made you whole," he said, "Your faith has made you whole." 00:08:15.72\00:08:19.29 One man said, "Lord, can you heal my son 00:08:19.33\00:08:22.73 if you can do anything?" 00:08:22.76\00:08:24.20 And Jesus said, "If you believe all things are possible". 00:08:24.23\00:08:27.27 And then of course he said, "If you've got faith as a mustard 00:08:27.30\00:08:29.50 seed," one place he talks about faith you can move mountains and 00:08:29.54\00:08:32.74 here it says that you can have a mulberry be pulled up by the 00:08:32.77\00:08:36.64 roots and planted in the sea. 00:08:36.68\00:08:39.21 And so, yeah, faith is I think crucial to anything. 00:08:39.25\00:08:43.49 The big area where Jesus emphasizes we need faith, is 00:08:43.52\00:08:48.02 faith that he can save us from our sins. 00:08:48.06\00:08:51.19 You know, we don't need the Lord to move mountains 00:08:51.23\00:08:53.66 and cast them into the sea. 00:08:53.70\00:08:55.23 The Bible says, "He takes our sins and casts them into the 00:08:55.26\00:08:58.63 depths of the sea." 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.30 And we're all being crushed under this mountain 00:09:00.34\00:09:02.70 of guilt and sin. 00:09:02.74\00:09:04.67 And by believing in the sacrifice of Jesus and his power 00:09:04.71\00:09:08.14 to give us new hearts, it becomes a reality. 00:09:08.18\00:09:12.65 And when we trust in him and we pray and believe he's going to 00:09:12.68\00:09:14.98 forgive our sins, when we believe he forgives our sins, we 00:09:15.02\00:09:17.55 instantly feel better just because of our faith. 00:09:17.59\00:09:21.29 So one way I might illustrate that, Anna, is if some crazy 00:09:21.32\00:09:25.56 person on the street hands you a check for a million dollars, you 00:09:25.59\00:09:28.20 probably wouldn't get too excited. 00:09:28.23\00:09:30.37 But if Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates handed you a check for a million 00:09:30.40\00:09:33.60 dollars, you would be really happy even before you took the 00:09:33.64\00:09:37.71 check to the bank because you would have faith 00:09:37.74\00:09:40.64 that there was money behind it. 00:09:40.68\00:09:43.01 So when you have faith in God, all things are possible. 00:09:43.04\00:09:47.32 Jean: And I think the point you emphasized Pastor Doug, is 00:09:47.35\00:09:49.78 important, that God is not asking us to do sort of miracles 00:09:49.82\00:09:52.92 to impress our neighbors and our friends but true faith will 00:09:52.95\00:09:56.12 always result in a deeper trust in Christ as our personal savior 00:09:56.16\00:10:01.83 and an earnest willingness to do what he asks us to do. 00:10:01.86\00:10:05.70 So faith is connected with works you read that in James. 00:10:05.73\00:10:08.74 So it's not just a type of supernatural power. 00:10:08.77\00:10:11.71 Matter of fact, we need to be careful of people that are 00:10:11.74\00:10:13.81 claiming to have supernatural powers just to impress others. 00:10:13.84\00:10:17.01 But the true faith of the Bible always results in repentance and 00:10:17.05\00:10:19.88 the humbling of the heart. 00:10:19.91\00:10:21.22 Doug: And yes, and that's not to say God doesn't answer 00:10:21.25\00:10:24.19 prayers, we've seen all kinds of miraculous answers to prayer. 00:10:24.22\00:10:29.36 I could just start going through a list right now of things the 00:10:29.39\00:10:31.76 Lord has done that I think folks would say, 00:10:31.79\00:10:34.13 "Well, that really was a miracle." 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.00 That doesn't mean, you know, somebody's arm grew back into 00:10:36.03\00:10:38.67 place but just incredible things happen when you lose something. 00:10:38.70\00:10:41.84 The odds of finding again are a million to one 00:10:41.87\00:10:44.67 and you pray and you find it. 00:10:44.71\00:10:46.01 So God does answer prayers and move mountains. 00:10:46.04\00:10:49.81 Thank you, Anna appreciate that. 00:10:49.84\00:10:51.61 We've got Glenn listening in Ohio. 00:10:51.65\00:10:53.18 Glenn, welcome to the program. 00:10:53.21\00:10:55.68 Glenn: Good evening pastors and thank you 00:10:55.72\00:10:57.22 for taking my call. 00:10:57.25\00:10:58.95 Jean: A Pleasure. 00:10:58.99\00:11:00.92 Glenn: You know, people do not like Judas of Iscariot 00:11:00.96\00:11:03.69 because he betrayed Jesus, but somebody had to do that. 00:11:03.73\00:11:09.03 In the valley of dry bones, they're mad at Hitler for his 00:11:09.06\00:11:12.17 part in the Holocaust. 00:11:12.20\00:11:14.04 Somebody had to do that. 00:11:14.07\00:11:16.07 And then, yes, we go all the way back to the beginning of time in 00:11:16.10\00:11:19.11 order for us--people don't like Lucifer because he's responsible 00:11:19.14\00:11:23.18 for entering sin into the world. 00:11:23.21\00:11:25.51 But somebody had to do that. 00:11:25.55\00:11:27.98 And we're all guilty of sin, "We know that all have sinned," but 00:11:28.02\00:11:33.46 if God is to be who he says he is and he would that none should 00:11:33.49\00:11:39.13 perish and that all should come to repentance. 00:11:39.16\00:11:42.00 Philippians 2:10, "That every knee shall bow 00:11:42.03\00:11:44.87 and every tongue confess." 00:11:44.90\00:11:47.30 If that's the case and his perfect will is exercised, who's 00:11:47.34\00:11:50.87 left on the earth to endure the eternal punishment? 00:11:50.91\00:11:55.78 Doug: All right, well, first of all, I'm going to--I have an 00:11:55.81\00:11:59.21 issue with some things you said when you said that someone had 00:11:59.25\00:12:03.72 to do it speaking of Judas, and then I thought I heard you say 00:12:03.75\00:12:08.79 someone had to do the Holocaust speaking of Hitler as though God 00:12:08.82\00:12:13.06 intended for that to happen. 00:12:13.09\00:12:15.20 I don't believe he did, I don't think it was God's will for 00:12:15.23\00:12:17.77 Judas to be a betrayer. 00:12:17.80\00:12:20.47 Jesus said it would've been better if he had not been born. 00:12:20.50\00:12:23.74 And Judas--God knew what was going to happen, God knows all 00:12:23.77\00:12:26.68 things, but it doesn't mean God's making it happen. 00:12:26.71\00:12:29.48 A lot of things that are happening in the world today, 00:12:29.51\00:12:31.55 the sin and the suffering are not God's will, that's why in 00:12:31.58\00:12:35.48 the Lord's prayer we pray, "Thy will be done." 00:12:35.52\00:12:38.29 If God's will is always being done, well, that's what the 00:12:38.32\00:12:41.32 Muslims say, "Whatever happens that's the will of Allah." 00:12:41.36\00:12:43.89 We don't believe that way. 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.23 As Christians, we believe that there's a battle between the 00:12:45.26\00:12:48.56 will of selfishness and the devil and evil, and the will of 00:12:48.60\00:12:52.33 God which is one of love. 00:12:52.37\00:12:54.64 And we know in the end God's kingdom will ultimately triumph 00:12:54.67\00:12:59.14 but all of the misery, sin, and suffering in the world today 00:12:59.17\00:13:02.51 was not God's will. 00:13:02.54\00:13:03.98 And who will--everyone's going to bow to Christ in the end 00:13:04.01\00:13:08.98 because it'd just be overwhelmed by the righteousness of God, and 00:13:09.02\00:13:12.39 you're speaking of Philippians there. 00:13:12.42\00:13:13.86 But you've got one group that's been washed and saved and the 00:13:13.89\00:13:17.19 other group's going to perish and be cast into the lake of 00:13:17.23\00:13:21.06 fire. Scriptures are very clear about that. 00:13:21.10\00:13:23.20 So, hopefully that makes sense. 00:13:23.23\00:13:25.30 You know, we do have a study guide that talks about, 'Is the 00:13:25.33\00:13:28.80 Devil in Charge of Hell?' And it will explain how God separates 00:13:28.84\00:13:32.71 the sheep from the goats and we'll be happy to send you a 00:13:32.74\00:13:36.11 free copy of that, Glenn. 00:13:36.14\00:13:37.91 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:13:37.95\00:13:40.82 You can ask for the study guide it's called, 'Is the Devil In 00:13:40.85\00:13:43.22 Charge of Hell?' And it is true as you mentioned in Philippians 00:13:43.25\00:13:46.69 chapter 2, a time will come where everyone will acknowledge 00:13:46.72\00:13:49.49 that Jesus is Lord but it's not a true confession, it's not a 00:13:49.52\00:13:53.29 true repentance I should say. 00:13:53.33\00:13:54.83 It's a true confession but not a true repentance. 00:13:54.83\00:13:57.07 Like Judas who threw the money down after he realized that he 00:13:57.10\00:14:01.07 had betrayed Christ and then he went out and he hung himself. 00:14:01.10\00:14:03.74 That wasn't genuine repentance. 00:14:03.77\00:14:05.51 Doug: Yeah, or when the Pharaoh said that he repented, 00:14:05.54\00:14:07.84 he repented the consequences of the sin he didn't repent of what 00:14:07.88\00:14:11.15 he had done. 00:14:11.18\00:14:12.48 Jean: That's right. All right, thank you. 00:14:12.51\00:14:13.82 Anthony is in New Jersey. Anthony, welcome to the program. 00:14:13.85\00:14:18.12 Anthony: Hi pastors, thank you for taking my call. 00:14:18.15\00:14:20.36 Doug: Yeah, thank you. 00:14:20.39\00:14:22.52 Anthony: All Right. 00:14:22.56\00:14:24.36 So my question is on Matthew 12, about the unpardonable sin, 00:14:24.39\00:14:29.23 verse 31 and 32. 00:14:29.26\00:14:31.77 If I could read it real quick because especially 32, 00:14:31.80\00:14:34.90 it's very specific, it gives detail. 00:14:34.94\00:14:37.57 So 31, "Because of this I say to you, every sin and blasphemy 00:14:37.61\00:14:43.04 shall be forgiven to men, but the blasphemy concerning the 00:14:43.08\00:14:47.15 spirit shall not be forgiven to men. 00:14:47.18\00:14:50.32 And whoever," in 32, here we go, "And whoever speaks a word 00:14:50.35\00:14:54.46 against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever 00:14:54.49\00:14:58.63 speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, 00:14:58.66\00:15:03.67 not in this age nor the coming one." 00:15:03.70\00:15:07.87 So this age being the one we are in right now, same age with 00:15:07.90\00:15:12.44 Yeshua, the coming one, being the 1,000 year millennium, but 00:15:12.47\00:15:16.04 we know there's an age after that when the books are open and 00:15:16.08\00:15:19.61 you know, the lake of fire is there but apparently the 00:15:19.65\00:15:24.82 unpardonable sin may be pardonable after 00:15:24.85\00:15:28.79 the 1,000 year millennium. 00:15:28.82\00:15:31.16 Doug: Well, I think I see what you're saying. 00:15:31.19\00:15:32.83 You know, I think when Jesus said it's not to be forgiven in 00:15:32.86\00:15:35.80 this life or in the world to come, he's making a pretty 00:15:35.83\00:15:38.77 absolute statement that those that grieve away the Holy Spirit 00:15:38.80\00:15:42.40 and go too far, there is no more forgiveness. 00:15:42.44\00:15:45.81 That's why he's warning so carefully against 00:15:45.84\00:15:48.48 committing the unpardonable sin. 00:15:48.51\00:15:50.41 He said, you know, other sins, all kinds of sins and blasphemy 00:15:50.45\00:15:53.45 God is so merciful. 00:15:53.48\00:15:55.05 He's forgiven murder and adultery 00:15:55.08\00:15:56.48 and all kinds of things. 00:15:56.52\00:15:57.89 What does he mean when he says, 00:15:57.92\00:15:59.52 "Do not sin against the Holy Spirit?" 00:15:59.55\00:16:01.76 Go up a little higher in the same passage, and they're 00:16:01.79\00:16:05.73 accusing Jesus of casting out devils and doing miracles 00:16:05.76\00:16:09.80 by the power of the devil. 00:16:09.83\00:16:11.63 In other words, they are resisting the evidence of the 00:16:11.67\00:16:14.90 Holy Spirit, they're refusing to listen to the voice of the Holy 00:16:14.94\00:16:18.11 Spirit and the proof of the Holy Spirit. 00:16:18.14\00:16:20.51 And Jesus said, "If you reject the Holy Spirit, if you 00:16:20.54\00:16:23.24 blaspheme the work of the Holy Spirit, 00:16:23.28\00:16:26.08 there's no way that God can reach you. 00:16:26.11\00:16:29.02 So the way the Lord reaches us is the Holy Spirit brings 00:16:29.05\00:16:32.09 conviction and we turn to the Lord and brings repentance. 00:16:32.12\00:16:35.59 If we reject the medium through which God brings us to 00:16:35.62\00:16:39.06 repentance and saves us, there is nothing else God can do to 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.56 save us and that's when you can go beyond mercy. 00:16:42.60\00:16:46.13 And I've actually written a book we can share a copy of that with 00:16:46.17\00:16:49.40 you and it's called, you know, 'What is the Sin of the 00:16:49.44\00:16:53.54 Unpardonable Sin?' I think it's called 'Beyond Mercy What is the 00:16:53.58\00:16:56.68 Unpardonable Sin?' And we'll send you a free copy of that 00:16:56.71\00:17:00.12 Anthony, and I encourage you to read that. 00:17:00.15\00:17:02.32 And there--people are not going to be forgiven 00:17:02.35\00:17:04.79 after the millennium. 00:17:04.82\00:17:06.12 Jean: You know, there's another verse 00:17:06.15\00:17:07.46 that comes to mind. 00:17:07.49\00:17:08.79 Romans chapter 2, verse 4. 00:17:08.82\00:17:10.13 It says, "Or, do you despise the riches of his goodness in 00:17:10.16\00:17:12.26 forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that it's the 00:17:12.29\00:17:15.03 goodness of God that leads you to repentance?" 00:17:15.06\00:17:17.23 So without the goodness of God, without the spirit of God 00:17:17.27\00:17:19.23 leading a person, they can't even get to the point of 00:17:19.27\00:17:21.94 repentance and repentance is needed for forgiveness. 00:17:21.97\00:17:25.47 So someone who has grieved away the Holy Spirit or blasphemed 00:17:25.51\00:17:28.04 against the Holy Spirit. 00:17:28.08\00:17:29.38 One other thing on that passage like the word blasphemy in the 00:17:29.41\00:17:31.61 Bible has two connotations. 00:17:31.65\00:17:33.82 One is putting oneself in the place of God and the other one 00:17:33.85\00:17:36.89 is claiming to be able to forgive sins. 00:17:36.92\00:17:38.89 So if somebody excuses their sense says, "Ah, it's not that 00:17:38.92\00:17:42.56 important," or if they try to put themselves in the place of 00:17:42.59\00:17:45.89 God in their own mind and thinking and they're rejecting 00:17:45.93\00:17:48.66 the promptings of the Holy Spirit, that's leading towards 00:17:48.70\00:17:52.07 blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. 00:17:52.10\00:17:54.17 All right, well, thank you for your call. 00:17:54.20\00:17:55.84 Again, the number is 800-835-6747 and you can ask for 00:17:55.87\00:17:59.51 that book on the 'Unpardonable Sin,' and we'll be happy to send 00:17:59.54\00:18:03.41 it to anyone who calls and asks for it. 00:18:03.45\00:18:05.78 I think it's called 'Beyond Mercy,' Pastor, like you 00:18:05.81\00:18:07.72 mentioned the name 800-835-6747. 00:18:07.75\00:18:11.65 We've got Beverly listening in Georgia. 00:18:11.69\00:18:13.32 Beverly, welcome to the program. 00:18:13.36\00:18:15.19 Beverly: Hey, Pastor Doug, Pastor John Ross. 00:18:15.22\00:18:17.89 Thank you all guys for taking my question. 00:18:17.93\00:18:20.60 Doug: Yeah. 00:18:20.63\00:18:21.90 Beverly: Okay, here's what I got. 00:18:21.93\00:18:23.23 I got two Bible scriptures. 00:18:23.26\00:18:27.60 The first one is Leviticus 20:13. 00:18:27.64\00:18:31.54 So I'm going to read it from the King James. 00:18:31.57\00:18:33.68 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both 00:18:33.71\00:18:39.41 of them have committed an abomination: 00:18:39.45\00:18:42.22 they surely should be put to death. 00:18:42.25\00:18:44.89 Their blood should be upon them." 00:18:44.92\00:18:47.02 Okay, let's go to 2 Timothy 3 verses 2 through 5, 00:18:47.06\00:18:56.53 "For men should be lovers 00:18:56.56\00:18:59.93 of their own selves, covetous, boasters, 00:19:00.04\00:19:02.57 proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 00:19:02.60\00:19:08.01 without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, 00:19:08.04\00:19:12.75 incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 00:19:12.78\00:19:16.79 traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than 00:19:16.82\00:19:21.86 lovers of God." 00:19:21.89\00:19:23.19 Now, here's where is coming home from me, "Having a form 00:19:23.22\00:19:26.39 of godliness, but denying the power thereof: 00:19:26.43\00:19:30.47 from such should turn away." 00:19:30.50\00:19:32.30 So pastors, here is my question, as a Christian, should I be 00:19:32.33\00:19:38.57 supporting the LBGQ+ community? 00:19:38.61\00:19:44.65 Doug: Well, no. 00:19:44.68\00:19:48.45 That's in a two letter answer. 00:19:48.48\00:19:52.05 The agenda that is being pushed on our culture today both in 00:19:52.09\00:19:57.93 North America and many other countries, that we should view 00:19:57.96\00:20:02.53 homosexual relationships as normal and valid and approved 00:20:02.56\00:20:07.30 and even to redefine them as marriage, is categorically 00:20:07.34\00:20:11.74 against the teachings of Scripture. 00:20:11.77\00:20:14.88 And so even though our culture is trying to redefine gender, as 00:20:14.91\00:20:21.58 I said in our verse Jesus said in the beginning, "God made them 00:20:21.62\00:20:25.25 male and female." 00:20:25.29\00:20:27.16 And obviously the males and females, husband and wife they 00:20:27.19\00:20:30.23 go together, but we're in a very confused culture right now when 00:20:30.26\00:20:35.13 it comes to what they call Sexual Orientation. 00:20:35.16\00:20:38.53 I think we should love people. 00:20:38.57\00:20:40.34 I think we ought to do everything we can to bring all 00:20:40.37\00:20:42.27 kinds of people to the Lord and love and win them. 00:20:42.30\00:20:44.81 That might mean telling them what the Bible says about sin 00:20:44.84\00:20:48.14 so they repent of their sins. 00:20:48.18\00:20:50.28 But as far as endorsing the behavior of the alphabet 00:20:50.31\00:20:55.48 community, no, I don't think so. 00:20:55.52\00:20:59.45 Jean: Absolutely Pastor. 00:20:59.49\00:21:00.99 Now you know, the Bibles makes it very clear that we love 00:21:01.02\00:21:03.46 people but we are not necessarily endorsing bad 00:21:03.49\00:21:07.40 behavior of people meaning contradicting the 00:21:07.46\00:21:09.83 Word of God which is sin. 00:21:09.86\00:21:11.17 Sin is defined as the transgression of the law. 00:21:11.20\00:21:13.30 So we're all sinners, we all need to come to the point of 00:21:13.34\00:21:16.10 repentance, but if we're wishing to try and redefine what sin is, 00:21:16.14\00:21:21.71 how can God bring us to a point of repentance? 00:21:21.74\00:21:23.71 Doug: Yeah. 00:21:23.75\00:21:25.05 Jean: If we want to acknowledge what the Bible teaches. 00:21:25.08\00:21:26.41 Doug: Exactly, a sin is the transgression of the law. 00:21:26.45\00:21:28.45 People need to turn from it and repent of their sins and that is 00:21:28.48\00:21:31.55 one of the things the Bible identifies as sin right up there 00:21:31.59\00:21:35.09 with lying, and adultery, and murder, these are all sins and 00:21:35.12\00:21:41.46 as you read there from Leviticus it's pretty clear that living 00:21:41.50\00:21:45.97 out homosexual behavior is a sin. 00:21:46.00\00:21:48.94 Jean: All right, next call that we have is Robert listening 00:21:48.97\00:21:50.87 in Colorado. 00:21:50.91\00:21:52.21 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:21:52.24\00:21:54.01 Robert: Yeah, good evening, pastors. 00:21:54.04\00:21:55.44 I have a question for you on Matthew 27 verse 52 and 53. 00:21:55.48\00:22:01.48 It says that when Jesus died that the graves were open and 00:22:01.52\00:22:07.02 some people were resurrected, the saints were resurrected and 00:22:07.06\00:22:09.82 they went in and showed themselves in the cities. 00:22:09.86\00:22:13.80 Some people think that after that time 00:22:13.83\00:22:16.06 they were translated to heaven. 00:22:16.10\00:22:18.17 And then my question is there's no reference to what happened to 00:22:18.20\00:22:21.64 'em after that. 00:22:21.67\00:22:22.90 Did they live like, you know, like Lazarus where they had to 00:22:22.94\00:22:26.41 live their life out again and then die and wait for the second 00:22:26.44\00:22:30.78 coming or did they actually get translated to heaven? 00:22:30.81\00:22:33.92 Doug: Yeah, I would say the latter that they, and I think 00:22:33.95\00:22:36.85 Pastor Ross is looking up a verse now if I'm not mistaken. 00:22:36.89\00:22:39.49 I think they did ascend to heaven. 00:22:39.52\00:22:40.99 First of all, if they're resurrected, unlike Lazarus, 00:22:41.02\00:22:43.79 they're not resurrected with an old body, these are some of the 00:22:43.83\00:22:47.03 saints that slept around Jerusalem that may have dated 00:22:47.03\00:22:49.56 back to, you know, Isaiah. 00:22:49.60\00:22:52.17 I mean, we don't know who they were but it's a limited number, 00:22:52.20\00:22:55.80 a special resurrection that was something of a trophy that 00:22:55.84\00:23:00.21 Christ took to heaven with him when he ascended. 00:23:00.24\00:23:04.48 So it says that their graves were opened during the 00:23:04.51\00:23:06.82 earthquake but they did not ascend to heaven. 00:23:06.85\00:23:09.85 It says they appeared to the city probably, you know, during 00:23:09.88\00:23:12.49 the Sabbath and Sunday when he told Mary, "Don't touch me, I've 00:23:12.52\00:23:15.69 not yet ascended to my Father." 00:23:15.72\00:23:17.03 When he did ascend, I believe they ascended with him. 00:23:17.06\00:23:20.23 Jean: And here's the verse Pastor Doug. 00:23:20.26\00:23:21.53 Ephesians chapter 4 verse 8. 00:23:21.56\00:23:22.86 It says, quoting from the Old Testament. 00:23:22.90\00:23:24.60 Therefore, he says, "When he ascended on high, he led 00:23:24.63\00:23:27.27 captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men." 00:23:27.30\00:23:30.74 So the captivity are those who held captive by the grave or 00:23:30.77\00:23:33.78 death, those are the ones who were resurrected at the time of 00:23:33.81\00:23:36.68 Christ's death during the earthquake. 00:23:36.71\00:23:38.51 But then it says, "He gave gifts to man." 00:23:38.55\00:23:40.32 So as Christ ascended to heaven, he led those who were 00:23:40.35\00:23:43.59 resurrected at that point in time and afterwards, there was a 00:23:43.62\00:23:46.72 special manifestation of the gift of the Holy Spirit that 00:23:46.76\00:23:49.12 came upon the apostles there in the upper room. 00:23:49.16\00:23:52.06 Doug: Thank you, so I hope that helps a little bit. 00:23:52.09\00:23:53.93 We might have time for one more. 00:23:53.96\00:23:55.26 Pastor Ross before our break. 00:23:55.30\00:23:56.60 Jean: We've got James listening in Texas. 00:23:56.63\00:23:58.23 James, welcome to the program. 00:23:58.27\00:24:00.24 James: Yes, sir. Can you hear me? 00:24:00.27\00:24:01.94 Doug: I can. 00:24:01.97\00:24:03.81 James: Okay, my question for tonight is, can I be baptized 00:24:03.84\00:24:08.81 myself or does it have to be done by a Pastor, or a priest, 00:24:08.84\00:24:11.55 or something? 00:24:11.58\00:24:12.98 Doug: Normally, the examples we all see in the Bible would 00:24:13.01\00:24:15.72 be, it says that the apostles baptized, you know, Jesus was 00:24:15.75\00:24:20.66 baptized by John. 00:24:20.69\00:24:21.99 I mean, Jesus could have baptized himself but he said, 00:24:22.02\00:24:23.59 "John, you need to do it." 00:24:23.63\00:24:24.96 It needs to be done by someone else. 00:24:24.99\00:24:26.49 The others were baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus's Apostles 00:24:26.53\00:24:30.50 were sent out to baptize Philip, baptized the Ethiopian eunuch, 00:24:30.53\00:24:34.94 Paul baptized the Ephesian jailer, or Philippian jailer, 00:24:34.97\00:24:39.11 I should say. 00:24:39.14\00:24:40.74 There are rare occasions where a person may be 00:24:40.78\00:24:43.28 the only believer in a country. 00:24:43.31\00:24:46.88 And I've heard stories of people that says, "I wanted to give my 00:24:46.92\00:24:49.28 heart to the Lord, I wanted to be baptized, there was no other 00:24:49.32\00:24:52.19 believer I was in, you know, a Hindu or Muslim country. 00:24:52.22\00:24:55.96 And I just prayed and I went out in the river and I said, Lord, I 00:24:55.99\00:24:59.16 am giving myself to you," and they dunked themselves. 00:24:59.19\00:25:01.33 And I think in rare occasions like that, God might wink and 00:25:01.36\00:25:04.93 smile and accept that. 00:25:04.97\00:25:07.00 But typically a person is taught first and they're cleared. 00:25:07.04\00:25:11.27 So those are baptized into Christ it's understood that they 00:25:11.31\00:25:14.28 are making a commitment, they need to know 00:25:14.31\00:25:16.54 what that commitment involves. 00:25:16.58\00:25:17.88 It'd be like two people marrying themselves. 00:25:17.91\00:25:19.68 I mean, usually marriage is performed in the presence of 00:25:19.71\00:25:22.22 witnesses by someone who officiates. 00:25:22.25\00:25:24.62 Baptism is like a marriage to Christ. 00:25:24.65\00:25:27.29 So normally, yes, someone else should be doing that. 00:25:27.32\00:25:30.96 There are rare occasions where I think that God has winked at a 00:25:30.99\00:25:34.56 person's inability to have anyone else do it and has 00:25:34.60\00:25:38.10 accepted them doing it themselves. 00:25:38.13\00:25:40.04 Jean: Well, you know, we do have a book, it's called 00:25:40.07\00:25:41.84 'Baptism; is it Really Necessary.' 00:25:41.87\00:25:43.30 And it deals with the subject. 00:25:43.34\00:25:45.27 Of course, we have many examples in the New Testament of people 00:25:45.31\00:25:47.64 that were baptized and of course we believe 00:25:47.68\00:25:50.05 that's still valid today. 00:25:50.08\00:25:52.78 If you'd like to receive the book, the number to call 00:25:52.81\00:25:54.45 is 800-835-6747. 00:25:54.48\00:25:56.92 You can ask for the book 00:25:56.95\00:25:58.65 'Baptism; is it Really Necessary?' 00:25:58.69\00:26:00.39 And we'll be happy to send that to anyone 00:26:00.42\00:26:01.82 who calls and asks. 00:26:01.86\00:26:03.16 Again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:26:03.19\00:26:07.13 And you know, Pastor Doug, we've been mentioning a number of free 00:26:07.20\00:26:09.50 resources but for those who are listening outside of North 00:26:09.53\00:26:12.47 America if they'd like to access any of these free materials and 00:26:12.50\00:26:15.80 additional study resources, just to go to the website, 00:26:15.84\00:26:18.97 search amazingfacts.org. 00:26:19.01\00:26:21.81 Doug: Minute and a half, can we do a question? 00:26:22.14\00:26:23.85 Jean: We Can give it a try, all right. 00:26:23.88\00:26:25.21 Let's see, we got Aaron. 00:26:25.25\00:26:26.55 Aaron, welcome to the program. 00:26:26.58\00:26:27.88 We have about one and a half minutes. 00:26:27.92\00:26:30.79 Aaron: Good evening pastors. 00:26:30.82\00:26:32.12 Here's my question. 00:26:32.15\00:26:33.46 Did the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 00:26:33.49\00:26:35.59 70 happen exactly 40 years after the death of Jesus? 00:26:35.62\00:26:39.09 If not, is there a reason why it did not? 00:26:39.13\00:26:42.43 Doug: Well, I don't know that it happened exactly 40 years 00:26:42.46\00:26:44.40 after his death, but there seems to be evidence it happened about 00:26:44.43\00:26:48.07 40 years after he prophesied it. 00:26:48.10\00:26:51.01 He does say in Matthew 24 and I think it's also in Luke 21 and 00:26:51.04\00:26:55.98 maybe it's in Mark 13 that "This generation would not pass away 00:26:56.01\00:27:00.75 till all these things be fulfilled" and he was talking 00:27:00.78\00:27:03.22 about the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:27:03.25\00:27:05.39 That was, I think about 31 or that may have been 30 or 31 A.D. 00:27:05.42\00:27:12.49 The destruction of Jerusalem actually began almost exactly 40 00:27:12.53\00:27:15.96 years after that 'cause the temple wasn't destroyed 00:27:16.00\00:27:18.57 until 70 A.D. but the war with the Jews began 00:27:18.60\00:27:22.37 and the destruction before that. 00:27:22.40\00:27:24.04 So it'd be almost exactly 40 years after Jesus 00:27:24.07\00:27:26.17 predicted that. 00:27:26.21\00:27:27.61 Anyway, hope that helps a little bit. 00:27:27.64\00:27:29.68 Friends, we're going to be taking a brief break, 00:27:29.71\00:27:32.11 but just before we go to that, 00:27:32.15\00:27:33.58 I want to remind you that so much of what Amazing 00:27:33.62\00:27:35.92 Facts offers can be found on our website 00:27:35.95\00:27:38.85 which is amazingfacts.org. 00:27:38.89\00:27:41.36 There are YouTubes, and Bible studies, and sermons, and 00:27:41.39\00:27:44.19 archives of these programs. 00:27:44.23\00:27:45.53 Don't go away, coming back for some fresh Bible questions 00:27:45.56\00:27:48.00 in a moment. 00:27:48.03\00:27:49.76 announcer: Stay tuned, "Bible Answers Live" 00:27:52.63\00:27:54.84 will return shortly. 00:27:54.87\00:27:57.01 announcer: Jerusalem, the city of peace has been a place 00:28:00.28\00:28:03.11 of unending conflict for centuries. 00:28:03.14\00:28:05.91 Many now believe that Jerusalem will soon 00:28:05.95\00:28:07.98 take center stage again. 00:28:08.02\00:28:09.68 But what does the Bible say? And are they beyond salvation? 00:31:32.32\00:31:36.96 And how should we act around them? 00:31:36.99\00:31:39.66 I myself want to turn away from them as some verses indicate 00:31:39.69\00:31:44.43 that there are people that we should turn away from, but I 00:31:44.47\00:31:47.47 want to--are they beyond salvation and how 00:31:47.50\00:31:50.21 should we act around them? 00:31:50.24\00:31:52.01 And do you see a rise in reprobates? 00:31:52.04\00:31:54.68 Doug: Well, the Bible's clear I think that in the last days 00:31:54.71\00:31:57.78 evil men and seducers will wax worse and worse. 00:31:57.81\00:32:01.85 The devil is getting better at what he does as time goes by and 00:32:01.88\00:32:06.99 you know, much of the world is going to be sold out to the 00:32:07.02\00:32:09.79 devil in the last days when the whole mark of the beast scenario 00:32:09.82\00:32:13.13 is played out. 00:32:13.16\00:32:14.50 So yes, evil is growing worse. 00:32:14.56\00:32:17.03 It's hard for us to know a person's heart and know if 00:32:17.07\00:32:19.40 they've grieved away the spirit and if there's nothing, you 00:32:19.43\00:32:22.40 know, no redeemable qualities. 00:32:22.44\00:32:24.14 I think no matter what, Christians ought 00:32:24.17\00:32:26.07 to be kind to everybody. 00:32:26.11\00:32:28.54 We should represent Christ to everybody. 00:32:28.58\00:32:31.11 And even those who are crucifying Jesus, Jesus did not 00:32:31.15\00:32:34.75 revile them but he said, "Father, forgive them." 00:32:34.78\00:32:38.65 And so it really challenges our love muscles when we're around 00:32:38.69\00:32:43.02 people that seem to be just sold out to the devil, to still show 00:32:43.06\00:32:46.66 the love of God and the kindness of the Savior. 00:32:46.70\00:32:50.27 So that doesn't mean you need to spend a lot of time casting your 00:32:50.30\00:32:52.97 pearls before swine and trying to, you know, witness and work 00:32:53.00\00:32:56.77 with people that really seem like they've shut the door, you 00:32:56.81\00:32:59.64 want to be working where people are open. 00:32:59.67\00:33:02.34 Jesus said when he sent out the apostle sometimes 00:33:02.38\00:33:04.58 people rejected the truth. 00:33:04.61\00:33:06.28 He said, "Shake the dust off your feet 00:33:06.31\00:33:07.88 and go somewhere else." 00:33:07.92\00:33:09.88 So, it's the same thing in working with people. 00:33:09.92\00:33:14.49 Jean: All right. Doug: Thank you. 00:33:14.52\00:33:16.32 Jean: Thank you. 00:33:16.36\00:33:17.66 We've got Don listening in Texas. 00:33:17.69\00:33:18.99 Don, welcome to the program. 00:33:19.03\00:33:21.66 Don in Texas are you there? 00:33:21.70\00:33:23.33 Doug: Don might be muted. 00:33:23.37\00:33:24.67 Don, you're on but we don't hear you. 00:33:24.70\00:33:28.57 Jean: All right, we might come back to Don. 00:33:28.60\00:33:30.01 We've got Christian in Texas as well. 00:33:30.04\00:33:31.81 Christian, welcome to the program. 00:33:31.84\00:33:34.38 Christian: Hello, can you hear me? 00:33:34.41\00:33:35.71 Doug: Yes. 00:33:35.74\00:33:37.35 Christian: Oh, greetings. 00:33:37.38\00:33:39.58 I really love your ministries, let me make this quick. 00:33:39.61\00:33:42.68 I am living under my parents' authority and I am asking what I 00:33:42.72\00:33:47.72 should do if my parents prohibit me from keeping the Sabbath. 00:33:47.76\00:33:52.83 Doug: Yeah, that can be a real challenge. 00:33:52.86\00:33:54.30 Of course, the Bible says we, "Should honor our mother and 00:33:54.36\00:33:56.80 father" and then also there are Bible commands. 00:33:56.83\00:34:01.20 I would, as gently as you could, I'd reason with your parents and 00:34:01.24\00:34:05.34 say, appeal to them and say, "You know, mom, dad, I love you, 00:34:05.37\00:34:08.54 I respect you, but I've been convinced from reading the Bible 00:34:08.58\00:34:11.35 you might even open the Bible and show it to 'em that this is 00:34:11.38\00:34:13.65 one of the Ten Commandments. 00:34:13.68\00:34:15.88 And I want to do my best to observe his commandments and 00:34:15.92\00:34:20.56 hope that they'll be open to that. 00:34:20.59\00:34:23.09 I've had people call before and they say, "Pastor Doug, you 00:34:23.12\00:34:26.39 know, I live at home and my mother and my father, they want 00:34:26.43\00:34:30.20 me to be dishonest and steal and lie about my 00:34:30.23\00:34:32.13 age or do something dishonest. 00:34:32.17\00:34:33.47 What do I do? 00:34:33.50\00:34:34.80 I want to honor them but they want me to lie to get in 00:34:34.84\00:34:37.07 somewhere and say I'm under 12 and I'm not," you know. 00:34:37.11\00:34:40.51 And I see, I think sometimes you need to put your obedience to 00:34:40.54\00:34:45.51 God ahead of your parents but it is a very difficult thing when 00:34:45.55\00:34:49.55 you have to do that because you know, I think the Lord 00:34:49.58\00:34:53.49 understands the struggle when young people go through that and 00:34:53.52\00:34:57.69 it's also theirs, you know. 00:34:57.73\00:34:59.36 Couples where one is a believer one is not and it's especially 00:34:59.39\00:35:03.30 hard on wives when they say to their husband, you know, I 00:35:03.33\00:35:06.87 believe and I'm going to go to church 00:35:06.90\00:35:08.27 and I want to take the kids. 00:35:08.30\00:35:09.60 He says, "Well, I don't believe, I don't want you to." 00:35:09.64\00:35:11.67 Just it becomes, yeah, you really need to pray God will 00:35:11.71\00:35:14.38 work on the hearts of the people in authority. 00:35:14.41\00:35:16.81 Jean: Well, you know, we do have that quote of the 00:35:16.85\00:35:18.48 commandment that says, "Honor your mother and your father." 00:35:18.51\00:35:21.02 And you read that in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 1, but Paul 00:35:21.05\00:35:24.69 adds something. 00:35:24.72\00:35:26.02 He says, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: 00:35:26.05\00:35:27.96 for this is right." 00:35:27.99\00:35:29.22 So absolutely the commandment says that we are to honor our 00:35:29.26\00:35:31.53 mother and our father, but there is a caveat and that is, 00:35:31.56\00:35:34.83 "In the Lord." 00:35:34.86\00:35:36.10 So the Lord needs to be first, in all of our decision making. 00:35:36.13\00:35:38.57 Doug: Exactly, good point. Thank you. 00:35:38.60\00:35:40.67 Hope that helps a little, Christian. 00:35:40.70\00:35:42.40 Jean: We've got Angela listening in Illinois. 00:35:42.44\00:35:44.01 Angela, welcome to the program. 00:35:44.04\00:35:46.44 Angela: Hi, thank you. 00:35:46.47\00:35:48.61 I have a question in regards to Job 4 it's 16 through, well, I'm 00:35:48.64\00:35:56.79 sorry, 15 through 17. 00:35:56.82\00:35:58.69 And it's regarding Eliasis, the Temanite and when he talks about 00:35:58.72\00:36:07.40 this spirit that's swept over his face and how his hair stood 00:36:07.40\00:36:11.00 on, you know, stood on end, I was just wondering, is that 00:36:11.03\00:36:14.94 spirit, was it a demonic spirit or was it an angel? 00:36:14.97\00:36:19.41 Doug: You know, I don't know that it was either, I think the 00:36:19.44\00:36:22.04 word in the Hebrew here is that a wind. 00:36:22.08\00:36:26.35 That word and I was going to just look it up here 'cause I've 00:36:26.38\00:36:29.35 got a Bible program that may help me find that for you real 00:36:29.38\00:36:32.09 quick, but it may be the Hebrew word "Ruach" 00:36:32.12\00:36:35.16 which would be, oh no 00:36:35.19\00:36:38.03 it's a different word, no, it says a supernatural being, yeah. 00:36:38.06\00:36:43.97 Well first of all, they're speaking in poetry. 00:36:44.00\00:36:48.70 The prose and the poetry in Job is some of the most beautiful 00:36:48.74\00:36:51.51 and ancient in the world. 00:36:51.54\00:36:53.64 And so Eliphaz is talking about this spirit, this impression, he 00:36:53.68\00:36:58.08 was frightened and that went by and he asked, "Can a mortal man 00:36:58.11\00:37:03.59 be more righteous than God?" 00:37:03.62\00:37:05.32 And he's--they're looking at Job suffering and they're thinking, 00:37:05.35\00:37:09.12 "If he's a good man, why would he be suffering bad things? 00:37:09.16\00:37:12.19 Is God not as just as man is?" 00:37:12.23\00:37:15.23 Its interesting Abraham voices the same kind of question when 00:37:15.26\00:37:18.37 he said, "Shall not the judge of the earth do right?" 00:37:18.40\00:37:21.10 When he was appealing for Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:37:21.14\00:37:23.44 So this is just part of their debate and he kind of paints the 00:37:23.47\00:37:26.81 picture where he felt like this spirit spoke to him and the hair 00:37:26.84\00:37:35.28 of his head stood up. 00:37:35.32\00:37:37.15 "Can a man be more righteous than God? 00:37:37.19\00:37:40.49 So I think it's more poetic language than that he actually 00:37:40.52\00:37:43.09 had an angelic visitation. 00:37:43.12\00:37:45.36 Jean: And it is interesting, not everything that Job's friend 00:37:45.39\00:37:47.86 said was necessarily rightfully reflecting God. 00:37:47.86\00:37:51.53 Now I think the point could be made here that this is a true 00:37:51.57\00:37:53.67 statement, "Can mortal man be more just than God?" 00:37:53.70\00:37:56.60 But later on in the Book of Job you read how that God says to 00:37:56.64\00:37:59.37 Job, "You need to offer a sacrifice for them because they 00:37:59.41\00:38:01.58 didn't speak of me alright or correctly. 00:38:01.61\00:38:04.15 So not everything that they said was necessarily a correct 00:38:04.18\00:38:07.55 reflection of the character of God. 00:38:07.58\00:38:11.55 Doug: Well, thank you. 00:38:11.59\00:38:12.89 Appreciate your question Angela. 00:38:12.92\00:38:14.39 Jean: We've got Justin in Canada. 00:38:14.42\00:38:15.72 Justin, welcome to the program. 00:38:15.76\00:38:17.66 Justin: Thank you. 00:38:17.69\00:38:19.46 I just have a question about how to work out tithe if it's before 00:38:19.49\00:38:23.16 tax, after tax or after expenses 'cause I've worked it out after 00:38:23.20\00:38:28.04 tax and at this point in my life it seems like a little 00:38:28.07\00:38:32.04 unmanageable at the moment but I just wanted to follow whatever 00:38:32.07\00:38:37.05 is biblically correct. 00:38:37.08\00:38:39.31 Doug: Okay, good. 00:38:39.35\00:38:42.68 You know, the Bible I think is pretty clear that tithe is a 00:38:42.72\00:38:45.65 tenth of your increase, meaning, you know, your income and part 00:38:45.69\00:38:52.96 of your taxes in reality are a bill right along with your 00:38:52.99\00:38:57.77 groceries and your gas or whatever else you pay. 00:38:57.80\00:39:00.60 So I would believe you'd pay tithe on your gross and then, 00:39:00.64\00:39:06.27 you know, you pay your other expenses. 00:39:06.31\00:39:10.48 Now the reason I'm hesitating as I'm answering you this you're 00:39:10.51\00:39:14.12 probably thinking, "Oh, well what do I do about all the past 00:39:14.15\00:39:16.12 tithe maybe I haven't paid a full tithe on?" 00:39:16.15\00:39:18.85 I think you just start where you're at. 00:39:18.89\00:39:21.12 But I believe God will bless you and I know you're saying that 00:39:21.16\00:39:24.09 it's going to be hard to manage, you know, God promises in 00:39:24.13\00:39:27.83 Malachi chapter 3 that if we are faithful in paying a full tithe 00:39:27.86\00:39:33.94 and offering to God, he will open for us the windows of 00:39:33.97\00:39:36.67 heaven and pour out a blessing where there 00:39:36.71\00:39:38.47 is not room enough to receive it. 00:39:38.51\00:39:41.01 And yeah, I think tithe is just the bare minimum really. 00:39:41.04\00:39:45.71 Jean: Not only does the Bible speak of tithe 00:39:45.75\00:39:47.22 but also speaks of offerings. 00:39:47.25\00:39:48.75 Now no set amount is given for offerings but as the Lord has 00:39:48.78\00:39:52.19 blessed you, so you want to give towards the furtherance 00:39:52.22\00:39:54.59 of the work. 00:39:54.62\00:39:55.92 And that principle is in the Bible, of course, both in the 00:39:55.96\00:39:57.99 old and the New Testament and we have a study guide, it's called 00:39:58.03\00:40:00.96 'In God We Trust?' And it deals with the subject 00:40:01.00\00:40:03.30 of giving and tithe. 00:40:03.33\00:40:04.90 We're happy to send it to anyone who calls 00:40:04.93\00:40:06.47 and asks here in Canada or US. 00:40:06.50\00:40:08.80 The number is 800-835-6747 and again, you can ask for the study 00:40:08.84\00:40:13.58 guide is called, 'In God We Trust?' 00:40:13.61\00:40:15.54 and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:40:15.58\00:40:17.01 Doug: Yep, I wonder if Don is listening now 00:40:17.05\00:40:18.85 we can try him again. 00:40:18.88\00:40:20.18 Don in Texas are you there? 00:40:20.22\00:40:24.39 Don in Texas? Okay, nope. 00:40:24.42\00:40:27.99 All right, we'll try Joe in Arizona. 00:40:28.02\00:40:29.56 Joe, welcome to the program. 00:40:29.59\00:40:31.76 Joe: Hi, how are you guys doing? 00:40:31.79\00:40:33.63 Doug: Good, thanks for calling in. 00:40:33.66\00:40:34.93 Joe: Can you hear me? Doug: Yeah, loud and clear. 00:40:34.96\00:40:36.93 Joe: Okay, so I guess my question is between the 00:40:36.97\00:40:40.84 difference of Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, through account of 00:40:40.87\00:40:45.17 creation in Genesis 1, it says that "Elohim," which translates 00:40:45.21\00:40:49.64 to God in the plural, it says, spoke everything into existence 00:40:49.68\00:40:54.82 on the first -- sixth day. 00:40:54.85\00:40:57.45 And in Genesis 2 it mentioned when God, the Father or "The 00:40:57.49\00:41:03.63 Lord God," I'm sorry, that's what the Bible says, "The Lord 00:41:03.66\00:41:05.76 God created a -- plant before it was in the earth." 00:41:05.79\00:41:10.40 And it says it's just one day. 00:41:10.43\00:41:12.47 And it's also reversed in Genesis 1 because it says after 00:41:12.50\00:41:16.10 he formed Adam out of the ground then he formed the animals out 00:41:16.14\00:41:21.18 of the ground and then brought 'em to Adam 00:41:21.21\00:41:23.35 so he could give them names. 00:41:23.38\00:41:25.01 So why is there a different in the terminology there, is it 00:41:25.05\00:41:30.05 possible that they're two different events? 00:41:30.09\00:41:33.69 Doug: No, I think that you're just going to find, you say 00:41:33.72\00:41:36.42 you're wondering, I guess, why is a plural form of God used in 00:41:36.46\00:41:40.60 one passage and a more singular form in another? 00:41:40.63\00:41:42.93 Is that your question? 00:41:42.96\00:41:44.27 Are they--you're wondering because these different forms 00:41:44.30\00:41:45.97 are used are they different events? 00:41:46.00\00:41:48.30 Joe: Well, yeah, well it says God in the ordinary sense and 00:41:48.34\00:41:52.24 even at the end of Genesis 1, it talks about. 00:41:52.27\00:41:56.91 Doug: All right Joe, you may have hit a mute button 00:41:56.95\00:41:58.58 we just lost you. 00:41:58.61\00:42:03.39 Joe, you there? 00:42:03.42\00:42:04.72 Jean: I think Joe's. 00:42:04.75\00:42:06.05 Joe, if you can, if you can get us just check somehow 00:42:06.09\00:42:07.96 you might have hit-- 00:42:07.99\00:42:09.29 Doug: Joe, are you there? Jean: Hit a mute button. 00:42:09.32\00:42:11.73 Joe: Are you--can you hear me now? 00:42:11.76\00:42:13.06 Jean: Yeah. Doug: Yeah. 00:42:13.09\00:42:14.73 Joe: Okay, sorry. 00:42:14.73\00:42:16.33 Doug: So I think we, yeah, I think we understand that you're 00:42:16.36\00:42:19.23 wondering why these different forms are used 00:42:19.27\00:42:20.94 and are they different events? 00:42:20.97\00:42:23.74 Joe: Yeah, and when it says, "Let us make man in our image," 00:42:23.77\00:42:28.78 the word "Image" is "Salem," which means it says 00:42:28.81\00:42:31.78 vain show or a phantom. 00:42:31.81\00:42:34.75 And in the second commandment it says we shouldn't make images 00:42:34.78\00:42:39.19 unto God so I'm just wondering if there's a chance that there's 00:42:39.22\00:42:44.06 a difference between those two and the first one might not 00:42:44.09\00:42:46.59 actually be God but it might be, I don't know if we're angels or 00:42:46.63\00:42:50.33 something that it might've been Satan making. 00:42:50.37\00:42:52.87 Doug: No, it's--yeah, there are other passages in the Bible 00:42:52.90\00:42:56.94 where God says, you know, the Lord created man in the 00:42:56.97\00:43:00.28 beginning in the New Testament, there's several in the Old 00:43:00.31\00:43:02.88 Testament as well and you can get to Genesis 11 and God says, 00:43:02.91\00:43:07.68 "The man has become like us to know good and evil." 00:43:07.72\00:43:10.22 So, the Lord sometimes is interchangeable 00:43:10.25\00:43:14.09 in the term that he's used. 00:43:14.12\00:43:16.39 You know, a husband and wife are two different individuals but 00:43:16.42\00:43:20.13 they're one family. 00:43:20.16\00:43:21.93 And I can refer to my wife and I or I could refer to the 00:43:21.96\00:43:24.60 Batchelor's and it could encompass all five of the kids. 00:43:24.63\00:43:29.34 So I wouldn't put too much stock in that. 00:43:29.37\00:43:33.01 Now, you said something about image and worship. 00:43:33.04\00:43:35.48 The commandment doesn't say, "Don't make an image" 'cause God 00:43:35.51\00:43:38.45 later commands them to make different representations. 00:43:38.48\00:43:42.65 When they made the temple they made cherubim and angels on top 00:43:42.68\00:43:46.12 of the ark, and angels on the walls, and Solomon was told to 00:43:46.15\00:43:49.32 put oxen underneath the cart and Moses said, 00:43:49.36\00:43:51.99 "Make a bronze serpent." 00:43:52.03\00:43:53.73 God says, "Do not make an image and bow down to 00:43:53.76\00:43:56.63 it and worship it." 00:43:56.67\00:43:58.63 First commandment says, "Worship the God." 00:43:58.67\00:44:00.44 We are made in the image of God but we're supposed to worship 00:44:00.47\00:44:02.54 God not ourselves. 00:44:02.57\00:44:04.17 So, yeah, there's only one God he's talking about. 00:44:04.21\00:44:09.91 Jean: I think just to clarify, when you look at 00:44:09.94\00:44:13.21 Genesis chapter 1 and chapter 2, it's not talking about two 00:44:13.25\00:44:16.42 separate events it's just an expansion of the same event. 00:44:16.45\00:44:19.12 Additional details are added in chapter two that 00:44:19.15\00:44:21.29 you don't see in chapter 1. 00:44:21.32\00:44:23.49 All right, we've got Quentin listening in Texas, Quentin 00:44:23.53\00:44:25.83 welcome to the program. 00:44:25.86\00:44:27.13 Quentin: Hello. Can you hear me? 00:44:27.20\00:44:29.13 Doug: Yes, we do. 00:44:29.16\00:44:32.07 Quentin: I kinda got worried about this one 00:44:32.10\00:44:33.60 the during judgment day. 00:44:33.64\00:44:36.47 Now, during the judgment. 00:44:36.50\00:44:38.31 Doug: Yes. 00:44:38.34\00:44:39.67 Quentin: These people that Jesus spoke about, like, "I do 00:44:39.71\00:44:42.38 not know your name even though you cast demons out on people." 00:44:42.41\00:44:47.38 How do these people get to these--how do--my worry is how 00:44:47.42\00:44:54.69 these deceivers get to like, do they go to like rapture or 00:44:54.72\00:45:00.86 survive the tribulation or death? 00:45:00.90\00:45:03.30 I'm not sure but it's kinda make me worry if 00:45:03.33\00:45:07.37 I'm one of those people and-- 00:45:07.40\00:45:10.31 Doug: Well, the fact that you're worrying about it is 00:45:10.34\00:45:13.07 probably a healthy thing that Jesus gives that warning not 00:45:13.11\00:45:15.64 just to you Quentin, but he gives it to all of us to make 00:45:15.68\00:45:18.68 sure that we know him, that we have 00:45:18.71\00:45:20.52 a personal relationship with him. 00:45:20.55\00:45:22.55 It's not about just doing religious things. 00:45:22.58\00:45:25.59 These people that say, "Lord, Lord, we cast out devils, we did 00:45:25.62\00:45:28.42 wonderful works," they went to church every week ostensibly, 00:45:28.46\00:45:32.23 but they didn't have a personal relationship 00:45:32.26\00:45:33.90 where they were walking with God. 00:45:33.93\00:45:36.13 And the Lord wants you to spend time in his Word, submitting to 00:45:36.16\00:45:39.60 him every day, seeking his will, and just spend time to him like 00:45:39.63\00:45:44.71 you know him and love him. 00:45:44.74\00:45:46.54 And you won't have to worry about him declaring he doesn't 00:45:46.57\00:45:49.58 know you when he comes. 00:45:49.61\00:45:51.95 And of course, what he's describing here is the great 00:45:51.98\00:45:55.05 Judgment day, where he separates the sheep from the goats. 00:45:55.08\00:45:59.79 But you don't have to worry about that if you're spending 00:45:59.82\00:46:03.19 time knowing him now. 00:46:03.22\00:46:06.06 It is a sobering warning for every believer when they read 00:46:06.09\00:46:09.73 those words too as Paul says, "Examine ourselves and make sure 00:46:09.76\00:46:13.23 that we're in the faith and we do have a daily knowing 00:46:13.27\00:46:16.17 relationship with Jesus." 00:46:16.20\00:46:18.21 Do you pray? Do you talk to him? 00:46:18.24\00:46:20.54 Do you spend quality time thinking about him 00:46:20.58\00:46:21.94 during the day. 00:46:21.98\00:46:23.38 When you see other people do you want to tell other people about 00:46:23.41\00:46:26.28 God and his goodness? 00:46:26.31\00:46:28.22 And those are just, you know, some of the tests 00:46:28.25\00:46:29.82 you might apply. 00:46:29.85\00:46:31.55 Thanks, appreciate that. 00:46:31.59\00:46:32.89 I'm wondering what we can send Quentin to encourage him. 00:46:32.92\00:46:35.09 You know, we have the 'Three Steps to Heaven book.' 00:46:35.12\00:46:37.36 Jean: That's right, that's an excellent book. 00:46:37.39\00:46:38.83 We'll be happy to send that to you, Quentin, if you just call 00:46:38.86\00:46:40.83 and ask the number is 800-835-6747 and ask for the 00:46:40.86\00:46:45.73 book 'Three Steps to Heaven' and we'll be happy to 00:46:45.77\00:46:48.14 send it to you. 00:46:48.17\00:46:49.47 Anyone listening in Canada or the US, just ask for that book. 00:46:49.50\00:46:52.71 If you're outside of North America, you can read the book 00:46:52.74\00:46:55.04 by going to the Amazing Facts website, just amazingfacts.org. 00:46:55.08\00:46:59.41 And you know, there is one other way that you can get these 00:46:59.45\00:47:01.35 resources by just simply dialing #250 on your smartphone and ask 00:47:01.38\00:47:07.36 for "Bible Answers Live" and ask for the free offer, 'Three steps 00:47:07.39\00:47:10.23 to Heaven.' You'll be able to receive it that way as well. 00:47:10.26\00:47:13.56 Next call that we have is Robert listening in California. 00:47:13.60\00:47:15.66 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:47:15.70\00:47:18.07 Robert: Oh, thank you. How are you? 00:47:18.10\00:47:20.17 Doug: We're wonderful. How are you doing? 00:47:20.20\00:47:22.47 Robert: Oh, great, thank you Pastor Doug. 00:47:22.50\00:47:24.71 My question is, I believe its Revelation 4. 00:47:24.74\00:47:29.68 I'm trying to find out can you help me? 00:47:29.71\00:47:32.65 Doug: Well, tell us what the verse is and we'll try 00:47:32.68\00:47:34.12 and help you find it. 00:47:34.15\00:47:36.05 Robert: Okay, I believe it's Revelation 4 but it's about and 00:47:36.08\00:47:39.52 it may be in different chapters, I just want to know about the 24 00:47:39.55\00:47:43.79 elders that are part of the judgment throne, who they are 00:47:43.83\00:47:48.16 and if you could explain them. 00:47:48.20\00:47:50.70 Doug: Yeah, very good. Revelation 4:10. 00:47:50.73\00:47:52.77 So you are on the right track and I think they're mentioned, 00:47:52.80\00:47:55.57 Pastor Ross probably knows better than me, they're 00:47:55.60\00:47:57.57 mentioned probably four times in the Bible, I think. 00:47:57.61\00:48:00.51 Jean: And in verse 4, Revelation 4, verse 4. 00:48:00.54\00:48:02.14 Doug: 4 verse 4 also. 00:48:02.18\00:48:03.68 Jean: One is chapter 5. 00:48:03.71\00:48:05.01 Doug: Yeah, so the 24 elders are probably not, it's a little 00:48:05.05\00:48:08.88 bit mysterious but they're probably representatives 00:48:08.92\00:48:12.05 of unfallen worlds. 00:48:12.09\00:48:15.32 You can read where it says there's a day when the sons of 00:48:15.36\00:48:17.59 God came to present themselves before the Lord. 00:48:17.63\00:48:20.73 So these heavenly characters are presenting themselves at some 00:48:20.76\00:48:24.07 formal heavenly meeting and Satan comes 00:48:24.10\00:48:26.23 to represent the earth. 00:48:26.27\00:48:27.77 Well, Adam was supposed to represent the earth, but he fell 00:48:27.80\00:48:30.81 and he surrendered dominion to the enemy. 00:48:30.84\00:48:33.31 Adam is called the son of God in Luke chapter 3. 00:48:33.34\00:48:37.38 So many believe that these are unfallen representatives of 00:48:37.41\00:48:43.82 unfallen worlds, sinless worlds. 00:48:43.85\00:48:47.26 Some have thought, "Well maybe they're some of those that were 00:48:47.29\00:48:49.52 resurrected when Jesus ascended to heaven but that wouldn't 00:48:49.56\00:48:54.30 explain the passage in Job when that group appeared 00:48:54.30\00:48:57.77 and they existed before. 00:48:57.80\00:48:59.50 So I don't know, Pastor Ross, thoughts on that? 00:48:59.53\00:49:01.94 Jean: Yeah, we do have another verse in 00:49:01.97\00:49:03.34 Isaiah chapter 24 verse 23. 00:49:03.37\00:49:05.61 You don't always think of the 24 elders in Isaiah but its there. 00:49:05.64\00:49:09.08 Isaiah 24 verse 23 says, "Then the moon will be disgraced the 00:49:09.11\00:49:12.25 sun ashamed; for the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion 00:49:12.28\00:49:15.78 in Jerusalem and before his elders, gloriously." 00:49:15.82\00:49:19.69 So here you have a reference in Isaiah to the elders and in 00:49:19.72\00:49:24.03 Revelation chapter 4 tells us the elders are the 24 elders 00:49:24.06\00:49:27.66 that are surrounding the throne of God. 00:49:27.66\00:49:29.76 And as Pastor Doug mentioned, I think there's a close connection 00:49:29.80\00:49:32.37 between the 24 elders and the sons of God that you read about 00:49:32.40\00:49:35.10 in Job chapter 1 verse 6. 00:49:35.14\00:49:36.77 They're sort of the representatives of these 00:49:36.81\00:49:38.37 unfallen worlds witnessing the great controversy playing out. 00:49:38.41\00:49:43.51 Doug: And we have a book that is related, it's called 00:49:43.55\00:49:46.61 'Aliens or Adopted? Who Are the Sons of God?' 00:49:46.65\00:49:50.22 And we can send you a free copy of that. 00:49:50.25\00:49:52.02 Jean: The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:49:52.05\00:49:55.29 And again, you can ask for the book, it's called, 'Who Are the 00:49:55.32\00:49:57.53 Sons of God?' You can also dial #250 and say, "Bible Answers 00:49:57.56\00:50:01.80 Live" and then ask for the book, 'Who are the Sons of God?' 00:50:01.83\00:50:05.00 Next person that we have is Michael listening in Illinois. 00:50:05.03\00:50:07.27 Michael, welcome to the program. 00:50:07.30\00:50:09.64 Michael: Yeah, good evening, pastors. 00:50:09.67\00:50:11.21 Doug: Evening. 00:50:11.24\00:50:12.91 Michael: I have a question about baptism. 00:50:12.94\00:50:14.74 Doug: Okay. 00:50:14.78\00:50:17.11 Michael: If I'm disabled I can't be baptized, 00:50:17.15\00:50:20.62 what I'm I supposed to do? 00:50:20.65\00:50:22.68 Doug: All right, that's a good question. 00:50:22.72\00:50:24.69 What if a person wants to come to the Lord and they can't be 00:50:24.72\00:50:28.52 baptized for some physical reason? 00:50:28.56\00:50:31.39 Now, first of all I think there's some people that can be 00:50:31.43\00:50:35.16 baptized and it might be difficult 00:50:35.20\00:50:37.60 but they can still happen. 00:50:37.63\00:50:39.73 I remember there's one dear lady, she asked me to come to 00:50:39.77\00:50:42.07 her house and begged she said he wanted so much to be baptized 00:50:42.10\00:50:46.47 and she was in bed dying from cancer. 00:50:46.51\00:50:49.74 And I said, sister, how are we going to do this? 00:50:49.78\00:50:52.81 She said, "My son is big and strong." 00:50:52.85\00:50:54.92 She had shriveled to like a hundred pounds. 00:50:54.95\00:50:57.19 "He'll put me in the bathtub and if you could just, 00:50:57.22\00:50:59.75 you know, do the pronouncement." 00:50:59.79\00:51:01.16 We did that. 00:51:01.19\00:51:02.49 We baptized this sister in the bathtub. 00:51:02.52\00:51:05.03 And I've been in prisons where I've seen people get baptized in 00:51:05.06\00:51:07.96 horse troughs and in our church we've carried people into a 00:51:08.00\00:51:11.43 baptistry where you got two or three deacons helping 00:51:11.47\00:51:13.47 carry a person in and carry 'em out and they're fine. 00:51:13.50\00:51:16.81 So you know, if it can be done, you should try and do it because 00:51:16.84\00:51:19.81 it's a command of the Lord but what about 00:51:19.84\00:51:21.91 the thief on the cross? 00:51:21.94\00:51:23.24 He came to Jesus and he couldn't be baptized. 00:51:23.28\00:51:25.38 He was nailed to a cross. 00:51:25.41\00:51:27.18 He received credit for Jesus's baptism. 00:51:27.22\00:51:30.29 See, Jesus did not die for his sin he died for ours. 00:51:30.32\00:51:33.39 Jesus was baptized not for his sin but as an example for us and 00:51:33.42\00:51:37.76 possibly also on behalf of those who couldn't be. 00:51:37.79\00:51:41.06 Sometimes we're in a hospital and a person on their deathbed, 00:51:41.10\00:51:44.07 they're hooked up all the hospital apparatus, 00:51:44.10\00:51:46.23 they want to come to Jesus. 00:51:46.27\00:51:47.80 We're going to say, "That's too late, you can't get baptized". 00:51:47.84\00:51:50.41 No, you say, yes, you can come to Jesus and it's interesting in 00:51:50.44\00:51:55.21 Mark 16 it says, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be 00:51:55.24\00:51:57.81 saved, whoever believes not will be damned." 00:51:57.85\00:52:00.65 He doesn't say and is not baptized. 00:52:00.68\00:52:03.52 So baptism is part of God's will. 00:52:03.55\00:52:07.19 There are those who can't be 'cause of a disability, I think 00:52:07.22\00:52:10.59 God will give them credit for his baptism but we should make 00:52:10.63\00:52:13.46 every human effort. 00:52:13.50\00:52:14.83 Jean: All right, very good. 00:52:14.86\00:52:16.16 You might also enjoy that study guide or the book called 00:52:16.20\00:52:18.83 'Baptism is it really Necessary?' 00:52:18.87\00:52:20.37 And I think we might even address some of 00:52:20.40\00:52:21.70 those specific questions that you have. 00:52:21.74\00:52:23.64 To receive that, the book, 800-835-6747. 00:52:23.67\00:52:27.94 Ask for the book, 'Baptism is it Really Necessary?' 00:52:27.98\00:52:30.31 You can also dial #250 and say "Bible Answers Live." 00:52:30.35\00:52:33.95 Ask for it that way as well. 00:52:33.98\00:52:35.55 Thank you for your call Michael. 00:52:35.58\00:52:36.89 We've got Phil in New York. 00:52:36.92\00:52:38.22 Phil, welcome to the program. 00:52:38.25\00:52:39.72 Phil: Yeah, how you doing guys? 00:52:39.75\00:52:41.06 Thank you very much for taking my call. 00:52:41.09\00:52:43.63 My question is, did Solomon's Temple, the first Jewish temple 00:52:43.66\00:52:50.27 actually exist? 00:52:50.30\00:52:52.37 Is it part of history or only part of mythology? 00:52:52.40\00:52:56.40 Doug: Thank you, appreciate that. 00:52:56.44\00:52:58.74 I do believe both that Solomon's temple was very real, and that 00:52:58.77\00:53:04.81 it did exist, and that there is archeological evidence, and you 00:53:04.85\00:53:08.82 may have been to Israel also, Phil, but I've been there three 00:53:08.85\00:53:12.29 times and Pastor Ross and I were there together. 00:53:12.32\00:53:14.99 It's probably been four years now. 00:53:15.02\00:53:17.13 And we were taken on a tour down below the western wall sometimes 00:53:17.16\00:53:20.30 called the Wailing wall and they say these are not the stones 00:53:20.33\00:53:24.00 that were built by Herod the Great, these are some of the 00:53:24.03\00:53:26.77 original stones that go back to Solomon's temple. 00:53:26.80\00:53:31.01 And so these are Jewish guides and experts in antiquity. 00:53:31.04\00:53:34.94 They're not members of our church that 00:53:34.98\00:53:36.98 are showing you these things. 00:53:37.01\00:53:38.88 And they have quarries, they have quarries that were used by 00:53:38.91\00:53:42.18 Herod the great when he did the reconstruction of Nehemiah's 00:53:42.22\00:53:45.15 temple, and then they have quarries that they say, this is 00:53:45.19\00:53:48.59 where the stones came from for Solomon's temple. 00:53:48.62\00:53:51.46 Now because you've got a threshing floor that was there 00:53:51.49\00:53:55.53 first and that's mentioned in the Bible, 00:53:55.56\00:53:57.47 the threshing floor is Ornan. 00:53:57.50\00:53:59.27 And then Solomon's temple was built there. 00:53:59.30\00:54:02.14 Nebuchadnezzar obliterated that he carried 00:54:02.17\00:54:05.27 off everything of value. 00:54:05.31\00:54:06.88 Then when they rebuilt the city, they may have taken some of the 00:54:06.91\00:54:08.88 stones from the original foundation. 00:54:08.91\00:54:12.08 And then they built on top of that, then that was destroyed by 00:54:12.11\00:54:15.08 the Romans and it says the Romans did not leave 00:54:15.12\00:54:16.99 one stone upon another. 00:54:17.02\00:54:18.49 And you can still see where some of those stones are thrown in a 00:54:18.52\00:54:23.16 pile, huge stones at the base not far from the Western wall. 00:54:23.19\00:54:28.00 So yes, I believe Solomon's Temple was there and there is an 00:54:28.03\00:54:31.03 abundance of archeological evidence for that. 00:54:31.07\00:54:34.30 So yeah, it's very real and they've also found the stables 00:54:34.34\00:54:39.04 of Solomon and a lot of other things that prove he really 00:54:39.07\00:54:41.34 lived, he's not just a fable. 00:54:41.38\00:54:43.31 Jean: All right, next going to be have Dean from California. 00:54:43.35\00:54:45.85 Dean, welcome to the program. 00:54:45.88\00:54:48.25 Dean: Thank you. 00:54:48.28\00:54:49.68 Doug: Hey Dean, we've got about a minute, can we do it? 00:54:49.72\00:54:52.49 Dean: Yes, I think so. 00:54:52.52\00:54:53.82 Usually we end our prayer by saying, "In Jesus's name I pray" 00:54:53.86\00:54:58.03 or "We pray." 00:54:58.06\00:54:59.96 If I'd like a little explanation of that and then if someone 00:55:00.06\00:55:03.40 prays, "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy 00:55:03.43\00:55:06.47 Spirit" at the end of their prayer, 00:55:06.50\00:55:08.64 would that be accurate or appropriate? 00:55:08.67\00:55:11.11 Doug: Okay, good, good question. 00:55:11.14\00:55:13.14 Well, when we pray "In Jesus's name," it means to not only pray 00:55:13.17\00:55:16.58 in the mind and the spirit of Christ with love and forgiveness 00:55:16.61\00:55:19.81 for others, but we're asking God to answer the prayers not that 00:55:19.85\00:55:23.45 we're worthy, but because of the worthiness of his Son and the 00:55:23.49\00:55:26.92 blood that his Son has shed in our behalf. 00:55:26.96\00:55:28.99 And so we're pleading Christ as our intercessor and substitute 00:55:29.02\00:55:32.99 and that gives efficacy to our prayers. 00:55:33.03\00:55:36.33 And I don't think that it's wrong to culminate your prayers 00:55:36.36\00:55:39.17 by saying "In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost," but 00:55:39.20\00:55:41.70 we are principally told to pray in the name of Jesus. 00:55:41.74\00:55:44.67 Now those who are regular listeners know that we broadcast 00:55:44.71\00:55:47.74 on hundreds of stations, the internet and on satellite. 00:55:47.78\00:55:50.98 And because the time clocks of some of these different stations 00:55:51.01\00:55:53.95 are different, satellite radio's a little different than land 00:55:53.98\00:55:57.82 base, we sign off in two stages. 00:55:57.85\00:55:59.95 We'll say farewell to our satellite listeners, we're 00:56:00.06\00:56:02.42 coming back in just a moment for two minute 00:56:02.46\00:56:04.76 of rapid fire Bible questions. 00:56:04.79\00:56:07.20 So stay tuned. 00:56:07.23\00:56:09.10 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:56:11.40\00:56:13.90 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:56:13.94\00:56:17.84 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:56:17.87\00:56:21.81 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:56:21.84\00:56:26.45 Jean: Hello friends and welcome back to 00:56:27.28\00:56:28.58 "Bible Answers Live." 00:56:28.62\00:56:29.92 And we're going to be taking some of your email questions. 00:56:29.95\00:56:32.52 And if you'd like to send us one of your questions via email, the 00:56:32.55\00:56:36.76 email address is just simply balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:56:36.79\00:56:41.03 That's balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:56:41.06\00:56:45.17 Pastor Doug, first question that we have, can you explain a 00:56:45.20\00:56:48.10 little bit about what is it to be sealed or to be marked 00:56:48.14\00:56:51.24 according to Revelation? 00:56:51.27\00:56:53.27 Doug: Well, there's a difference between the mark of 00:56:53.31\00:56:55.28 the beast and the seal of God, but technically I guess you 00:56:55.31\00:56:58.65 could argue that both there's a distinguishing difference. 00:56:58.68\00:57:03.25 You read in Deuteronomy it says, "These words I command you this 00:57:03.28\00:57:07.99 day shall be in your heart and there'll be a sign on your hand 00:57:08.02\00:57:11.86 and frontlets between your eyes." 00:57:11.89\00:57:13.36 God wants his law in our heart, in our mind, 00:57:13.40\00:57:16.40 in our actions, our hands. 00:57:16.43\00:57:18.43 The Bible says, "Grieve not the Holy Spirit, where with you are 00:57:18.47\00:57:21.97 sealed for the day of redemption." 00:57:22.00\00:57:23.71 And Isaiah says in chapter 8 of Isaiah verse 16, "Seal the law 00:57:23.74\00:57:28.74 among my disciples." 00:57:28.78\00:57:30.08 The seal of God, they'll have the law of God in their hearts. 00:57:30.11\00:57:34.05 And one of those laws begins with the word "Holy" and God's 00:57:34.08\00:57:38.05 people are going to be holy. 00:57:38.09\00:57:39.99 Mark of the beast is having the laws of the beast where you're 00:57:40.02\00:57:43.09 putting the laws of man ahead of the laws of God. 00:57:43.12\00:57:46.16 This is the big battle in the last days and we got a whole 00:57:46.19\00:57:49.13 lesson on that, 'What is the mark of the Beast?' 00:57:49.16\00:57:52.67 Time for another half a question. 00:57:52.70\00:57:54.00 Jean: Yes, real quick. 00:57:54.04\00:57:55.27 Was Lazarus amongst those who were taken to heaven after the 00:57:55.30\00:57:58.87 resurrection of Jesus? 00:57:58.91\00:58:01.08 Doug: No, he probably was not part of the group you find in 00:58:01.11\00:58:03.78 Matthew chapter 27. 00:58:03.81\00:58:06.18 Lazarus continued to live even after Jesus ascended 00:58:06.21\00:58:10.35 to heaven on earth. 00:58:10.39\00:58:11.69 God bless friends, thanks so much for tuning in today. 00:58:11.72\00:58:14.09 We appreciate your keeping the program on the air by making a 00:58:14.12\00:58:16.89 donation at amazingfacts.org. 00:58:16.93\00:58:20.20 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:21.60\00:58:23.30 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:23.33\00:58:28.27
