male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.06\00:00:05.33 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.37\00:00:09.67 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.70\00:00:13.58 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.61\00:00:16.11 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.14\00:00:19.61 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.19\00:00:33.46 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.50\00:00:38.77 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.80\00:00:43.97 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts 00:00:44.01\00:00:46.88 International, Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:46.91\00:00:49.64 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:49.94\00:00:51.25 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.28\00:00:54.32 Back in 1829, two men, George Wilson and James Porter, 00:00:54.35\00:00:59.05 robbed the United States mail carrier. 00:00:59.09\00:01:01.86 Both were captured, tried, and 00:01:01.89\00:01:03.89 sentenced to execution by hanging. 00:01:03.93\00:01:06.43 Porter was executed on schedule, but Wilson was not. 00:01:06.46\00:01:10.53 Influential friends pleaded on his behalf for mercy to the 00:01:10.57\00:01:14.00 President of the United States, Andrew Jackson. 00:01:14.04\00:01:17.27 President Jackson relented and issued 00:01:17.31\00:01:19.54 a formal pardon, dropping all charges. 00:01:19.57\00:01:22.64 Wilson would still have to serve a 20-year 00:01:22.68\00:01:24.45 prison term for his prior crimes. 00:01:24.48\00:01:26.82 Incredibly, George Wilson refused the pardon. 00:01:26.85\00:01:31.29 So, what do you do with a pardon that's rejected? 00:01:31.32\00:01:34.96 The Supreme Court stepped in to decide what happens to a person 00:01:34.99\00:01:37.99 that does not accept a presidential pardon. 00:01:38.03\00:01:40.60 After some research, Chief Justice John Marshall 00:01:40.63\00:01:43.70 stated, "A pardon refused is no pardon. 00:01:43.73\00:01:47.84 George Wilson must be hanged." 00:01:47.87\00:01:50.24 And he was. 00:01:50.27\00:01:52.17 Kind of hard to imagine, Pastor Ross, a person is offered a 00:01:52.21\00:01:56.44 pardon from execution, and they say, "I don't want it." 00:01:56.48\00:02:01.58 They reject it. 00:02:01.62\00:02:03.18 Jean Ross: It's kind of sad to have 00:02:03.22\00:02:04.52 a pardon and then reject it. 00:02:04.55\00:02:06.12 But in a spiritual sense, there are many in the world today who 00:02:06.15\00:02:09.42 have rejected the pardon that has been offered to them at 00:02:09.46\00:02:12.56 great cost, through the cross, through the 00:02:12.59\00:02:15.00 crucifixion of Christ, and yet they spur that 00:02:15.03\00:02:17.73 pardon, and they push that aside. 00:02:17.77\00:02:20.10 Doug: Now, they're not only being saved from death, they're 00:02:20.14\00:02:22.44 being saved from an eternal death, and the Bible 00:02:22.47\00:02:26.01 calls it the second death, and God is 00:02:26.04\00:02:28.41 extending this incredible grace and mercy. 00:02:28.44\00:02:31.05 There's a number of verses in the Bible that sort 00:02:31.08\00:02:32.88 of highlight this scorn or rejected pardon. 00:02:32.91\00:02:37.02 You can read in Proverbs 1, verse 24. 00:02:37.05\00:02:39.75 It says, "Because I called to you, and you refused, I 00:02:39.79\00:02:44.23 stretched out my hand and no one regarded." 00:02:44.26\00:02:48.06 The Lord is stretching out His hand. 00:02:48.10\00:02:49.53 He's calling to the world and saying, "Whosoever 00:02:49.56\00:02:51.53 will, let him take the water of life." 00:02:51.57\00:02:53.50 And so many people are just saying, 00:02:53.54\00:02:55.14 "No, I'm not interested." 00:02:55.17\00:02:57.44 No reason is given in history why 00:02:57.47\00:02:59.14 George Wilson refused the pardon. 00:02:59.17\00:03:02.34 You can only speculate, but he said, "I don't want it." 00:03:02.38\00:03:05.61 And how sad. 00:03:05.65\00:03:07.08 Jean: It is sad. 00:03:07.12\00:03:08.42 Well, you know, Pastor Doug, we do have a book 00:03:08.45\00:03:10.12 that talks about the riches question. 00:04:31.17\00:04:32.47 Doug: Amen. 00:04:32.50\00:04:33.80 Jean: Well, before we go to the phone 00:04:33.84\00:04:35.14 lines, let's start with a word of prayer. 00:04:35.17\00:04:36.47 Dear Father, we thank you that we have this time, 00:04:36.50\00:04:38.04 once again, to open up your Word and study. 00:04:38.07\00:04:40.58 Lord, we recognize there is power in your Word, and we ask 00:04:40.61\00:04:43.81 for the Spirit to come and guide us, be with those who are 00:04:43.85\00:04:46.08 listening, wherever they might be in their car, or at home, or 00:04:46.11\00:04:48.85 whatever they're doing, Lord, and guide us into a clearer and 00:04:48.88\00:04:52.25 a full understanding of your Word. 00:04:52.29\00:04:54.42 And Jesus said, "You'll know the truth, 00:04:54.46\00:04:55.92 and the truth will set you free." 00:04:55.96\00:04:57.46 So, bless our time together, in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:57.49\00:04:59.96 Doug: Amen. 00:05:00.06\00:05:01.33 Jean: All right, well, we're ready to go 00:05:01.36\00:05:02.66 to our first call of this evening. 00:05:02.70\00:05:04.07 We've got Gary listening in Illinois. 00:05:04.10\00:05:05.67 Gary, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:05.70\00:05:08.77 Gary: Thank you. 00:05:08.80\00:05:10.11 In Revelation 7:3, it says that the angels are told 00:05:10.14\00:05:14.81 not to hurt the earth, until the servants of 00:05:14.84\00:05:17.38 God are sealed in their forehead. 00:05:17.41\00:05:19.55 Well, since they're servants of God already, 00:05:19.58\00:05:21.82 why do they need to be sealed in their forehead? 00:05:21.85\00:05:24.59 And if you don't have that seal, in 00:05:24.62\00:05:26.19 Revelation 9:4, you will be hurt. 00:05:26.22\00:05:29.56 So, that's my question. What is the seal of God? 00:05:29.59\00:05:32.69 Doug: You know, first and foremost, 00:05:32.73\00:05:34.00 the seal of God is the Holy Spirit. 00:05:34.03\00:05:37.03 You can read that in Ephesians chapter 2. 00:05:37.07\00:05:39.53 I think there's probably two or three places that talks about, 00:05:39.57\00:05:42.10 "Grieve not the Holy Spirit, wherewith you 00:05:42.14\00:05:43.71 are sealed unto the day of redemption." 00:05:43.74\00:05:46.84 But then there's something in Revelation beyond that. 00:05:46.88\00:05:49.51 Obviously, those who have the mark of the 00:05:49.54\00:05:51.01 beast have the spirit of the devil. 00:05:51.05\00:05:53.35 Those that have the seal of God have the Spirit of God. 00:05:53.38\00:05:56.15 I think that kind of goes without saying. 00:05:56.18\00:05:58.22 And you can read in Isaiah chapter 8, it says, "Bind up the 00:05:58.25\00:06:04.03 testimony, seal the law among my disciples." 00:06:04.06\00:06:09.56 So, when you look in Deuteronomy chapter 6, Moses says to the 00:06:09.60\00:06:15.10 children of Israel, "Hear O Israel," 00:06:15.14\00:06:17.24 this is verse 4, "the Lord our God is one. 00:06:17.27\00:06:19.01 Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all 00:06:19.04\00:06:20.34 your heart, mind, soul, and strength. 00:06:20.38\00:06:22.38 And these words I command you, today." 00:06:22.41\00:06:24.78 He had just quoted the Ten Commandments in chapter 5. 00:06:24.81\00:06:27.45 "These words I command you, today, shall be in your heart. 00:06:27.48\00:06:30.62 You shall write them on the doors of your house, 00:06:30.65\00:06:33.09 when you go out, when you come in. 00:06:33.12\00:06:34.42 They shall be as frontlets between your eyes, and they 00:06:34.46\00:06:37.33 shall be written upon your hands." 00:06:37.36\00:06:39.49 So, when he says that the law of God is to be sealed among his 00:06:39.53\00:06:42.63 people, that's talking about it is to be ingrained. 00:06:42.66\00:06:45.70 It's to be imbedded in their nature. 00:06:45.73\00:06:47.47 The Bible says that they have--he says, "I will give you 00:06:47.50\00:06:50.37 a heart where you want to do my will. 00:06:50.41\00:06:53.21 I'll write my law in your hearts." 00:06:53.24\00:06:55.24 Now, God's people have the Holy Spirit, but when they're sealed 00:06:55.28\00:06:59.18 with the Holy Spirit, they reach the point 00:06:59.21\00:07:01.98 where they just can't be lost, just like those 00:07:02.02\00:07:04.02 who get the mark of the beast can't be saved. 00:07:04.05\00:07:06.15 Jean: Absolutely, Pastor Doug. 00:07:06.19\00:07:07.49 You know, it's all so interesting. 00:07:07.52\00:07:08.82 Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments." 00:07:08.86\00:07:10.86 And you're speaking about the seal of God as the Holy Spirit, 00:07:10.89\00:07:13.33 but the Holy Spirit is manifest in the 00:07:13.36\00:07:14.86 life of a believer through obedience. 00:07:14.93\00:07:17.33 Revelation 12:17 talks about a group of people who have--or 00:07:17.37\00:07:20.70 they keep the commandments of God, and that the testimony of 00:07:20.74\00:07:23.91 Jesus in Revelation 14:12 says they have the faith of Jesus. 00:07:23.94\00:07:27.71 So, those who keep God's commandments, because they love 00:07:27.74\00:07:30.41 Him, and they have the Holy Spirit, in the last days there 00:07:30.45\00:07:33.45 will be two groups, those who have the seal of 00:07:33.48\00:07:35.08 God and those who have the mark of the beast, 00:07:35.12\00:07:36.58 and the issue revolves around worship. 00:07:36.62\00:07:38.25 And, you know, we do have a study guide that talks about, 00:07:38.29\00:07:40.66 well, it talks about the mark of the beast, but by default it'll 00:07:40.69\00:07:43.19 also talk about the seal of God, because you need both of them. 00:07:43.22\00:07:45.76 If you'd like to learn more about 00:07:45.79\00:07:47.13 this subject, just call and ask. 00:07:47.13\00:07:48.93 Ask for the study guide. 00:07:48.96\00:07:50.27 It's called "The Mark of the Beast," and we'll be happy to 00:07:50.30\00:07:51.87 send that out to anyone who calls and asks. 00:07:51.90\00:07:53.97 The number again is 800-835-6747. 00:07:54.00\00:07:57.57 That is our resource phone line. 00:07:57.61\00:07:58.91 You can also dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," and say, 00:07:58.94\00:08:02.81 "I want that study guide, 'The Mark of the Beast.'" 00:08:02.84\00:08:05.71 If you have a Bible question, our phone line here 00:08:05.75\00:08:07.75 to the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:08:07.78\00:08:12.15 Thank you, Gary. 00:08:12.19\00:08:13.49 We've got Archie listening in California. 00:08:13.52\00:08:14.99 Archie, welcome to the program. 00:08:15.02\00:08:17.79 Archie: Pastor Ross, Pastor Ross. 00:08:17.83\00:08:20.66 How are you doing, Pastor Doug? 00:08:20.70\00:08:23.16 Doug: Good. Appreciate your calling. 00:08:23.20\00:08:26.63 Archie: Okay, my question involves Deuteronomy 00:08:26.67\00:08:32.77 14, verse 22, and then 24 to 26. 00:08:32.81\00:08:39.08 I'd like to know--it doesn't seem like it's telling people to 00:08:39.11\00:08:44.85 use their tithes for what it's meant for. 00:08:44.89\00:08:48.46 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:08:48.49\00:08:50.26 Yeah, I appreciate that. 00:08:50.29\00:08:51.59 And before we even give the answer, for anyone out there 00:08:51.63\00:08:55.66 that has a question about what does the Bible say regarding 00:08:55.70\00:08:57.87 tithe, we will mention the free offer we have 00:08:57.90\00:09:00.90 called, "In God You Trust," in God we trust. 00:09:00.94\00:09:03.94 We also have that book called "Thieves in the Church." 00:09:03.97\00:09:06.98 But let me get to the point of your question here. 00:09:07.01\00:09:09.18 There are two kinds of tithes. 00:09:09.21\00:09:11.25 There was the regular tithe that was given throughout 00:09:11.28\00:09:13.65 the year on their increase, whether that 00:09:13.68\00:09:16.08 increase was crops or herds or money. 00:09:16.12\00:09:19.55 They were to consecrate a tenth of all their increase. 00:09:19.59\00:09:22.86 That was a general, across the board tithe. 00:09:22.89\00:09:24.73 A tenth of their income, their increase was to 00:09:24.76\00:09:27.30 be consecrated to the Lord, given to 00:09:27.30\00:09:29.26 the Levites for their work of ministry. 00:09:29.30\00:09:32.30 The Levites, keep in mind, they're not just the pastors 00:09:32.33\00:09:34.97 that taught the Word of God throughout the land. 00:09:35.00\00:09:37.01 They were something like the doctors, as well. 00:09:37.04\00:09:39.24 They were the judges. 00:09:39.27\00:09:40.58 And so it was, you know, you can call it a tax, 00:09:40.61\00:09:43.28 but it was more of a spiritual tax. 00:09:43.31\00:09:44.98 But the tithe that's being mentioned here in Deuteronomy 14 00:09:45.01\00:09:47.72 was a tithe that was given especially for the feasts, when 00:09:47.75\00:09:52.29 they would come up to these annual feasts. 00:09:52.32\00:09:54.82 And not all the feasts required them to come, but I think there 00:09:54.86\00:09:57.66 were three feasts that required them to come before the Lord, 00:09:57.69\00:10:00.80 and these were tithes connected with that. 00:10:00.83\00:10:03.87 Jean: And if you want to apply that to a New Testament 00:10:03.90\00:10:05.67 type here, not only do we have our tithes, which is ten percent 00:10:05.70\00:10:08.94 of our increase, but we also give offerings, and offerings is 00:10:08.97\00:10:11.94 no set amount, but as the needs arise in the church, if there's 00:10:11.97\00:10:15.41 a special project or evangelism, well, just to sustain the work 00:10:15.44\00:10:18.85 of the local church, that's what offerings are used for. 00:10:18.88\00:10:21.82 Doug: Yeah, New and Old Testament 00:10:21.85\00:10:23.49 talk about tithe and offerings. 00:10:23.52\00:10:25.65 And, of course, in the Old Testament, you've got Malachi 00:10:25.69\00:10:27.46 chapter 3 talks about that, and Jesus mentions the 00:10:27.49\00:10:30.86 tithe in, I think, it's Matthew 23:23. 00:10:30.89\00:10:34.66 Jean: And we do have a study guide talking about that. 00:10:34.73\00:10:36.46 It's called "In God We Trust." 00:10:36.50\00:10:38.50 And, again, just call 800-835-6747. 00:10:38.53\00:10:41.87 Ask for the study guide. 00:10:41.90\00:10:43.14 It's called "In God We Trust." You can also ask for the book. 00:10:43.17\00:10:45.67 It's called "Thieves in the Church." 00:10:45.71\00:10:48.04 And just ask, and we'll be happy to send 00:10:48.08\00:10:49.84 it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:10:49.88\00:10:52.18 Next caller that we have is Cathy 00:10:52.21\00:10:53.58 listening in North Carolina. 00:10:53.62\00:10:55.22 Cathy, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:55.25\00:10:58.85 Cathy: Hi, gentlemen. Thank you for taking my call. 00:10:58.89\00:11:01.59 Doug: Yeah. 00:11:01.62\00:11:03.02 Cathy: Okay, I've got a question on praying multiple 00:11:03.06\00:11:06.90 times for the same object, I mean, it seems to me if you just 00:11:06.93\00:11:12.37 ask in faith, you sit there and you go, "Okay, well, you either 00:11:12.40\00:11:16.24 are going to say yes, no, or wait a while." 00:11:16.27\00:11:18.07 And--but I sort of get the impression from some scripture 00:11:18.11\00:11:21.58 that, like, Jesus talking about the woman, like, her going to 00:11:21.61\00:11:25.71 the judge and going, hey, you know, please, please, please, or 00:11:25.75\00:11:28.32 going to some guy and going please, please, please give 00:11:28.35\00:11:30.09 me, and finally her persistence wore him 00:11:30.12\00:11:32.55 down, and he gave her what she wanted. 00:11:32.59\00:11:35.32 And I wasn't sure if that was Jesus saying, you know, keep on 00:11:35.36\00:11:39.19 going until you get some sort of answer, or I mean, 00:11:39.23\00:11:42.23 just, like, I don't do that with my kids. 00:11:42.26\00:11:43.97 I don't say, okay, if you keep begging me enough you'll get a 00:11:44.00\00:11:46.87 different answer, 'cause you won't. 00:11:46.90\00:11:48.20 You don't beg me. 00:11:48.24\00:11:49.54 It's yes, no, or I'll think about it, 00:11:49.57\00:11:50.87 but you just, then you shut up. 00:11:50.91\00:11:52.64 Doug: Yeah, I agree with you on that. 00:11:52.67\00:11:54.24 And by the way, you're quoting a parable that Jesus shares in 00:11:54.28\00:11:58.05 Luke 18 about the persistent widow, who continues to pray 00:11:58.08\00:12:02.12 until she gets the answer from this unrighteous judge. 00:12:02.15\00:12:04.95 There's nothing wrong with praying 00:12:04.99\00:12:07.22 multiple times over something. 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.66 I think anyone who is a parent out there 00:12:09.69\00:12:11.56 prays all the time for their kids. 00:12:11.59\00:12:14.60 And in the Lord's Prayer, it says, 00:12:14.63\00:12:16.16 "Give me this day my daily bread." 00:12:16.20\00:12:18.87 That implies that--it doesn't say, "Give me 00:12:18.90\00:12:21.00 my bread for the rest of my life." 00:12:21.04\00:12:22.90 You know, some things we just continue to thank the Lord for 00:12:22.94\00:12:25.91 and pray for an on ongoing basis. 00:12:25.94\00:12:29.08 Jesus said not to pray in vain repetition, meaning, 00:12:29.11\00:12:33.08 you don't just repeat a memorized prayer. 00:12:33.11\00:12:35.65 There's no value in that--that just wears God down--but to have 00:12:35.68\00:12:38.55 an ongoing issue that you're praying about. 00:12:38.59\00:12:41.56 Now, Paul continued to pray to the Lord about 00:12:41.59\00:12:44.69 what he called the thorn in his side. 00:12:44.73\00:12:46.63 I forget what that verse is. 00:12:46.66\00:12:49.20 And after he prayed about it three times, God said, "Let's 00:12:49.23\00:12:52.53 not talk about it anymore, I'm not answering that prayer." 00:12:52.57\00:12:54.94 And so--but Paul, obviously, he prayed more 00:12:54.97\00:12:57.24 than once about it, so there was no sin. 00:12:57.27\00:12:59.64 Elijah prayed seven times for rain in 1 Kings. 00:12:59.67\00:13:04.91 After the fire came down from heaven, 00:13:04.95\00:13:07.15 he then prayed seven times. 00:13:07.18\00:13:08.92 He kept sending his servant to see, "Is God sending the rain?" 00:13:08.95\00:13:12.72 So, sometimes you want a persistent prayer, if you know 00:13:12.75\00:13:15.79 that it's something according to God's will. 00:13:15.82\00:13:18.43 You may be praying for loved ones for years. 00:13:18.46\00:13:20.66 Jean: Yeah, I was just going to add, I don't 00:13:20.70\00:13:22.26 think God doesn't want to hear us praying, 00:13:22.30\00:13:24.97 but I think He wants sincerity in our prayer. 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.40 So, if it's just a vain repetition, we don't mean what 00:13:27.44\00:13:30.27 we're saying, that isn't of value. 00:13:30.31\00:13:32.24 But if it's an earnest desire--and maybe there are 00:13:32.27\00:13:34.68 times we've got to bring up something multiple times before 00:13:34.71\00:13:37.35 the Lord for strength, our own strength, to gain the victory, 00:13:37.38\00:13:41.95 or in the situation of, you know, a relationship, or a need 00:13:41.98\00:13:45.49 for healing, but we don't want to do the vain repetition. 00:13:45.52\00:13:48.52 Doug: Right, yeah. I pray for mercy every day. 00:13:48.56\00:13:50.63 Jean: We need that, yeah. Ask for the book. 00:13:59.17\00:14:03.00 It's called "Teach Us to Pray." 00:14:03.04\00:14:04.67 We'll be happy to send it to you in Canada, 00:14:04.71\00:14:06.41 if you're listening, or in North America. 00:14:06.44\00:14:08.48 If you're outside of the US, just go 00:14:08.51\00:14:10.81 to our website, amazingfacts.org. 00:14:10.85\00:14:13.62 And if you have a Bible question, our phone line 00:14:13.65\00:14:15.45 here to the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:14:15.48\00:14:20.19 Randy's listening in Indiana. 00:14:20.22\00:14:21.96 Randy, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:14:21.99\00:14:25.13 Randy: Good evening, Pastors. Thank you. 00:14:25.16\00:14:27.13 My question is about hell. 00:14:27.20\00:14:31.33 The Bible does say in Revelation that at the very end, when the 00:14:31.37\00:14:36.50 wicked finally say, "Just and true are thy ways," that fire is 00:14:36.54\00:14:42.34 going to come down from heaven and devour them. 00:14:42.38\00:14:46.01 My question specifically is, is that fire literally going to 00:14:46.05\00:14:50.12 come down, or is God going to reveal His face to the world, 00:14:50.15\00:14:55.19 and they're going to basically be incinerated? 00:14:55.22\00:14:57.19 Because the Bible also says that no man 00:14:57.23\00:14:59.23 has ever seen God and lived. 00:14:59.26\00:15:01.83 Doug: Right. 00:15:01.86\00:15:03.16 Well, you're actually, you're on to something. 00:15:03.20\00:15:04.53 You're looking at two different events. 00:15:04.57\00:15:06.70 The wicked are destroyed by the brightness of His coming. 00:15:06.74\00:15:09.84 I believe that's 2 Thessalonians. 00:15:09.87\00:15:12.21 So, when Jesus comes, the brightness of His coming is 00:15:12.24\00:15:15.18 going to just destroy the wicked. 00:15:15.21\00:15:16.61 But at the end of the 1,000 years, it says the rest 00:15:16.64\00:15:19.21 of the dead don't live until the thousand years are finished. 00:15:19.25\00:15:21.95 That's Revelation 20. 00:15:21.98\00:15:23.49 That means the rest of the dead, the wicked are 00:15:23.52\00:15:25.32 raised at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:15:25.35\00:15:27.56 They are then ultimately judged, and 00:15:27.59\00:15:30.13 then God rains fire down upon them. 00:15:30.16\00:15:32.46 He literally rained fire upon 00:15:32.49\00:15:34.30 the people in Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:15:34.30\00:15:36.50 The Bible says the destruction of the wicked will be like Sodom 00:15:36.53\00:15:39.00 and Gomorrah, and it keeps raining down just like in the 00:15:39.03\00:15:42.17 days of Noah, when it rained down. 00:15:42.20\00:15:43.74 It finally turned into a flood and a lake. 00:15:43.77\00:15:46.71 The whole world was covered. 00:15:46.74\00:15:48.04 It rains down outside the New Jerusalem, 00:15:48.08\00:15:49.94 and it creates what they call a lake of fire. 00:15:49.98\00:15:52.51 And, of course, the devil and his angels must be 00:15:52.55\00:15:55.65 physically thrown into that lake of fire. 00:15:55.68\00:15:58.22 It tells us that's what happens to them. 00:15:58.25\00:15:59.79 So, the wicked, the devil, and the angels 00:15:59.82\00:16:01.92 are all cast into this lake of fire. 00:16:01.96\00:16:04.29 God rains it down. 00:16:04.33\00:16:05.79 You could see it coming from every direction. 00:16:05.83\00:16:08.00 Jean: You know, we have a study guide. 00:16:08.03\00:16:09.33 It's called "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:16:09.36\00:16:11.00 And it talks about this fire that 00:16:11.03\00:16:12.57 consumes the wicked at the end. 00:16:12.60\00:16:14.07 How long is the fire? What does the fire accomplish? 00:16:14.10\00:16:16.64 All of that's answered in the book, 00:16:16.67\00:16:18.11 "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:16:18.14\00:16:19.91 The number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:16:19.94\00:16:24.01 And, again, just ask for the study guide. 00:16:24.05\00:16:25.35 It's called, "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:16:25.38\00:16:27.58 And we do have a website, Pastor Doug. 00:16:27.62\00:16:29.02 It's called helltruth.com. 00:16:29.05\00:16:31.05 Just helltruth.com. 00:16:31.09\00:16:32.39 A lot of great information there, also 00:16:32.42\00:16:34.26 some studies, some Bible references. 00:16:34.29\00:16:36.19 So, take a look at that. 00:16:36.22\00:16:38.26 We've got Joshua listening in Kentucky. 00:16:38.29\00:16:40.30 Joshua, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:16:40.33\00:16:42.83 Joshua: Hey, how are you guys, tonight? 00:16:42.86\00:16:45.47 Doug: Doing good. Thank you for calling. 00:16:45.50\00:16:47.87 Joshua: I remember seeing Doug at 00:16:47.90\00:16:49.80 the "Reclaim Your Faith." 00:16:49.84\00:16:51.31 I think I scared him in DC once. I put my hand on his shoulder. 00:16:51.34\00:16:54.48 I said, "Hi, Doug." He turned around. 00:16:54.51\00:16:56.64 Doug: I don't remember being scared, 00:16:56.68\00:16:57.98 but sorry, I don't remember. 00:16:58.01\00:17:02.35 Joshua: I've got a question for you. 00:17:02.38\00:17:03.62 You know, the 144,000 is a topic that seems to keep coming up in 00:17:03.65\00:17:08.29 this last day theology that I'm hearing about. 00:17:08.32\00:17:11.83 There's only going to be 144,000 perfect people standing when 00:17:11.86\00:17:17.97 Christ comes back that will be translated to heaven, and I just 00:17:18.00\00:17:21.17 find that hard to believe, based on if there is an exacting 00:17:21.20\00:17:26.71 number of 144,000, the percentage of that compared to 00:17:26.74\00:17:30.51 8 billion people on planet earth would 00:17:30.55\00:17:32.38 be very slim possibility of going to heaven. 00:17:32.41\00:17:35.58 And the other factor is the predestination theology. 00:17:35.62\00:17:40.82 Is there really only 144,000 that are predestined 00:17:40.86\00:17:44.93 to go to heaven and be translated? 00:17:44.96\00:17:47.46 And I think the theology is, like, out 00:17:47.50\00:17:50.10 of control, spreading like a wildfire. 00:17:50.13\00:17:53.80 And I just find that hard to believe. 00:17:53.84\00:17:55.80 And, you know, the judgment, the other part of the question is 00:17:55.84\00:18:01.31 people are scared of the judgment, this 00:18:01.34\00:18:03.24 investigated judgment that's going on. 00:18:03.28\00:18:05.15 I said, "Well, why are you scared? 00:18:05.18\00:18:06.48 You're going to be looked at whether you're dead or going 00:18:06.51\00:18:08.68 through the books, or what you're doing before 00:18:08.72\00:18:11.59 in your life when Christ is coming back." 00:18:11.62\00:18:13.46 I would just like you to expound on these 00:18:13.49\00:18:15.02 two topics briefly, if you can. 00:18:15.06\00:18:17.06 Doug: Okay. 00:18:17.09\00:18:18.39 First of all, the 144,000 mentioned in Revelation chapter 00:18:18.43\00:18:22.06 7, Revelation 14, is it a literal number? 00:18:22.10\00:18:26.30 I believe it is, but they are not the only ones saved. 00:18:26.33\00:18:30.01 So, I would just say the 144,000 it talks 00:18:30.04\00:18:33.58 about 12,000 from the 12 tribes. 00:18:33.61\00:18:37.21 Jesus had 12 apostles that reached a great multitude. 00:18:37.25\00:18:41.85 Jesus not only had 12 apostles. 00:18:41.88\00:18:43.69 Jesus had 70 disciples He sent out. 00:18:43.72\00:18:46.82 On the day of Pentecost, it says there was 120 00:18:46.86\00:18:49.46 in the upper room and 3,000 were baptized. 00:18:49.49\00:18:52.16 So, if you read the whole chapter of chapter 7, you read 00:18:52.19\00:18:55.20 in verse 9, it says, "And after these things, I looked, and 00:18:55.23\00:18:58.23 behold, a great multitude that no one could number, of all 00:18:58.27\00:19:01.90 nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, 00:19:01.94\00:19:03.87 standing before the throne and the Lamb. 00:19:03.91\00:19:05.61 They are clothed in white robes." 00:19:05.64\00:19:07.11 So, there's a great multitude that cannot be numbered. 00:19:07.14\00:19:09.98 And John says, "Who are these arrayed in white robes?" 00:19:10.01\00:19:15.05 And the angel says, "These are they 00:19:15.08\00:19:16.38 that came out of great tribulation." 00:19:16.42\00:19:18.29 So, if you think of the great tribulation at the 00:19:18.32\00:19:20.89 end of time, it says there's a great 00:19:20.92\00:19:22.62 multitude that comes out of that. 00:19:22.66\00:19:24.46 Don't think of the 144,000 as the only ones saved. 00:19:24.49\00:19:28.16 Think of them something like they are the leaders. 00:19:28.20\00:19:31.33 In Acts chapter 2, God had the 12 apostles. 00:19:31.37\00:19:34.44 After they replaced Judas--they were down 00:19:34.47\00:19:36.14 to 11, because Judas hung himself. 00:19:36.17\00:19:37.74 They replaced Judas. 00:19:37.77\00:19:39.07 Then God pours out the Holy Spirit. 00:19:39.11\00:19:41.14 The 12 start preaching, plus the 120 in the 00:19:41.18\00:19:43.38 upper room, and a great multitude is reached. 00:19:43.41\00:19:47.42 It's the same scenario in the last days, except it's not 12. 00:19:47.45\00:19:50.69 It's 12 times 12,000 Spirit-filled leaders that'll be 00:19:50.72\00:19:54.79 around the world doing this work. 00:19:54.82\00:19:56.59 They are not the only ones saved. 00:19:56.62\00:19:58.69 Jean: We have a book, Pastor Doug. 00:19:58.73\00:20:00.03 It's called, "Who Will Sing the Song? 00:20:00.06\00:20:01.80 Understanding the 144,000." 00:20:01.83\00:20:03.60 And it's about this important group you 00:20:03.63\00:20:05.07 read about in Revelation chapter 7. 00:20:05.10\00:20:06.60 Just call and ask. 00:20:06.63\00:20:07.94 We'll be happy to send you the book. 00:20:07.97\00:20:09.27 The number again is 800-835-6747, and you can ask 00:20:09.30\00:20:13.31 for the book, "Who Will Sing the Song? 00:20:13.34\00:20:15.18 Understanding the 144,000." 00:20:15.21\00:20:17.05 You can also get that by pressing #250 on your phone, and 00:20:17.08\00:20:21.18 just say, "Bible Answers Live," say, "I want 00:20:21.22\00:20:23.25 the book, 'Who Shall Sing the Song?'" 00:20:23.28\00:20:25.22 And we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:20:25.25\00:20:27.76 That's right. All right, thank you, Joshua. 00:20:27.79\00:20:29.86 We've got Tammy listening in Washington. 00:20:29.89\00:20:31.69 Tammy, welcome to the program. 00:20:31.73\00:20:34.20 Tammy: Hi, Pastors. 00:20:34.23\00:20:36.00 Thank you for taking my call. 00:20:36.03\00:20:38.50 I'm also a friend of Pastor Samuel 00:20:38.53\00:20:40.87 Thomas, who knows Pastor Batchelor. 00:20:40.90\00:20:43.41 Doug: Yes. 00:20:43.44\00:20:44.74 Tammy: And he has a lot of respect for 00:20:44.77\00:20:46.34 you, and he's a very busy person. 00:20:46.37\00:20:49.98 And I know you have this show, so I have a question. 00:20:50.01\00:20:54.12 It's in regards to Revelation, where God says that He's going 00:20:54.15\00:21:00.29 to wipe all the tears from our eyes and take our sorrows away. 00:21:00.32\00:21:06.80 My kids were dedicated in the church, 00:21:06.83\00:21:09.26 and I have a granddaughter. 00:21:09.30\00:21:10.83 And I know I had saw something earlier on a program you did 00:21:10.87\00:21:15.14 about saying that you're not sure if all children 00:21:15.17\00:21:18.57 will be in heaven or not before the age of accountability 00:21:18.61\00:21:22.04 if one or both parents are not saved. 00:21:22.08\00:21:26.01 So, my question is, is how is God going to 00:21:26.05\00:21:29.15 wipe away those memories, if we have loved ones 00:21:29.18\00:21:32.22 like that, that are not going to be in heaven? 00:21:32.25\00:21:37.56 Doug: Yeah, and I think everybody has faced that, and 00:21:37.59\00:21:40.93 probably, if you've lived a little while, you've gone to a 00:21:40.96\00:21:42.93 funeral before, and you really had serious doubts about whether 00:21:42.96\00:21:46.00 the person had accepted Christ, and what 00:21:46.03\00:21:48.74 are they going to see in the resurrection? 00:21:48.77\00:21:50.07 Are they going to be ready? 00:21:50.11\00:21:51.94 And how do you cope with that? 00:21:51.97\00:21:53.61 Well, you know, one thing you do is 00:21:53.64\00:21:55.44 you put it in the hands of the Lord. 00:21:55.48\00:21:57.65 The Bible has an interesting statement. 00:21:57.68\00:21:59.48 It's a very short verse. 00:21:59.51\00:22:01.12 King David had a son named Amnon. 00:22:01.15\00:22:03.72 Of course, he had three sons that kind of went sideways. 00:22:03.75\00:22:06.99 We had Amnon, Absalom, and Adonijah, all begin with an A. 00:22:07.02\00:22:12.49 And Amnon did some terrible things, and he died suddenly. 00:22:12.53\00:22:17.13 And David mourned for him. 00:22:17.17\00:22:18.77 And then it says in 2 Samuel 13:39, "And David 00:22:18.80\00:22:23.14 longed to be with his son Absalom. 00:22:23.17\00:22:25.57 For he had been comforted concerning 00:22:25.61\00:22:27.24 Amnon, because he was dead." 00:22:27.28\00:22:30.45 In other words, David said, you know, "I'm going to cry, I'm 00:22:30.48\00:22:32.78 going to mourn, but I'm not going to cry forever, because 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.15 I've got other children that need my attention, and I've got 00:22:35.18\00:22:38.72 the kingdom that needs my attention, and I'm going 00:22:38.75\00:22:40.49 to just put this in God's hands." 00:22:40.52\00:22:42.19 And that's why it says God wipes the tears from our eyes, 00:22:42.22\00:22:46.36 because, you know, facing eternity without 00:22:46.39\00:22:48.80 someone you love is a horrendous thought. 00:22:48.83\00:22:52.17 But it would take a God then to comfort you at times like that. 00:22:52.20\00:22:56.57 And think about this. 00:22:56.60\00:22:59.37 Who loves people the most? 00:22:59.41\00:23:02.38 Any earthly parent or God? 00:23:02.41\00:23:04.58 And how does God feel about the millions, if not billions that 00:23:04.61\00:23:10.65 are going to be lost forever, that could've had eternal life? 00:23:10.69\00:23:14.69 He understands how we feel. 00:23:14.72\00:23:16.93 And I think the whole universe, there'll be a little mourning. 00:23:16.96\00:23:19.53 There'll be some sorrow, but God then, at the end 00:23:19.56\00:23:21.96 of the 1,000 years is when he says he wipes 00:23:22.00\00:23:23.93 away all the tears from our eyes. 00:23:23.97\00:23:26.53 All right, appreciate that. 00:23:26.57\00:23:27.87 Jean: Very good, thank you, Tammy. 00:23:27.90\00:23:29.20 We've got Paul listening in Tennessee. 00:23:29.24\00:23:30.54 Paul, welcome to the program. 00:23:30.57\00:23:32.37 Paul: Hello, yeah, thank you so much for taking my call. 00:23:32.41\00:23:34.78 Doug: Thank you. 00:23:34.81\00:23:36.28 Paul: Yeah, my question is in regard 00:23:36.31\00:23:38.08 to what happens after death. 00:23:38.11\00:23:40.55 Been watching you a long time. I've learned a lot. 00:23:40.58\00:23:43.72 And I just want to know if, you know, when we die, if we're dead 00:23:43.75\00:23:47.12 asleep, or if we're dead until the resurrection, 00:23:47.16\00:23:49.69 or if we go straight to God in heaven. 00:23:49.72\00:23:52.23 And I've talked to you. 00:23:52.26\00:23:53.56 I've heard you talk about Corinthians 5:8, "To be absent 00:23:53.60\00:23:57.23 from the body is to be present with the Lord," and I've heard 00:23:57.27\00:23:59.53 you speak on that one, but I'd like for you 00:23:59.57\00:24:00.94 to touch on Philippians 1:23-24. 00:24:00.97\00:24:04.97 The part that's confusing me is, "But it's more 00:24:05.01\00:24:07.38 necessary for you that I remain in the body." 00:24:07.41\00:24:10.11 So, is he saying he does leave the body when he dies 00:24:10.15\00:24:12.08 and is he consciously with the Lord? 00:24:12.11\00:24:15.05 Doug: Well, when you die, your consciousness certainly 00:24:15.08\00:24:17.95 leaves the body, because your body decomposes, and you don't 00:24:17.99\00:24:22.29 resume your consciousness again until God raises you at the 00:24:22.32\00:24:25.76 resurrection, which for a believer is 00:24:25.79\00:24:28.96 going to seem like just a moment. 00:24:29.00\00:24:33.44 There are 12 examples of resurrections 00:24:33.47\00:24:36.24 in the Bible, approximately. 00:24:36.27\00:24:38.91 And in all of those cases, none of those resurrected ever made a 00:24:38.94\00:24:44.21 comment on being aware of anything while dead. 00:24:44.25\00:24:48.58 Solomon said, "The living, though they'll 00:24:48.62\00:24:50.05 die, the dead don't know anything." 00:24:50.09\00:24:52.32 Jesus said, "Our friend Lazarus is asleep." 00:24:52.35\00:24:55.16 And then they thought, "Oh, that's good, he's resting." 00:24:55.19\00:24:56.76 Jesus said, "No, he's dead." 00:24:56.79\00:24:58.33 But Jesus referred to it as asleep. 00:24:58.36\00:25:01.56 So, that's what Paul says. 00:25:01.60\00:25:03.77 We don't need to sorrow concerning those who have fallen 00:25:03.80\00:25:07.14 asleep, and that's 1 Thessalonians chapter 4. 00:25:07.17\00:25:09.94 We don't sorrow as others that have no hope. 00:25:09.97\00:25:12.14 So, consistently through the Bible it 00:25:12.17\00:25:15.24 refers to the dead as they're asleep. 00:25:15.28\00:25:19.91 For them their next conscious thought is 00:25:19.95\00:25:22.12 the presence of the Lord in the resurrection. 00:25:22.15\00:25:24.02 So, you know, I understand people say, "Oh, our loved one's 00:25:24.05\00:25:26.55 with the Lord," but it gives the wrong 00:25:26.59\00:25:28.46 impression, because they're not there yet. 00:25:28.49\00:25:30.29 Jesus hasn't come yet. 00:25:30.33\00:25:31.73 The judgment hasn't taken place yet. 00:25:31.76\00:25:34.00 So, a person's theology just runs into a whole gauntlet of 00:25:34.03\00:25:37.57 problems when they think that people die and go right to 00:25:37.60\00:25:39.83 heaven before the resurrection and the judgment. 00:25:39.87\00:25:43.07 And indeed, the idea that they would die and go 00:25:43.10\00:25:46.47 to the lake of fire before the resurrection and 00:25:46.51\00:25:48.64 the judgment is also a big problem. 00:25:48.68\00:25:50.85 So, the dead are unconscious until these resurrections 00:25:50.88\00:25:54.88 mentioned in Revelation, the first and second resurrection. 00:25:54.92\00:25:58.02 Jean: So, when Paul talks about being absent from the 00:25:58.05\00:26:00.19 body, he's not talking about a soul ascending 00:26:00.22\00:26:03.29 to heaven separate from the body and being aware 00:26:03.32\00:26:06.06 of what's happening here on the earth. 00:26:06.09\00:26:07.46 He's just simply meaning that to be dead, 00:26:07.50\00:26:09.76 that is to be absent from the body. 00:26:09.80\00:26:11.27 And then, of course, the resurrection is the next 00:26:11.30\00:26:13.30 conscious thing you know or you see. 00:26:13.34\00:26:15.10 So, there's no time lapse for the person who died. 00:26:15.14\00:26:17.91 The very next conscious thought is 00:26:17.94\00:26:19.24 the second coming of Christ, right? 00:26:19.27\00:26:20.91 Doug: And let me--you know, I never did the justice 00:26:20.94\00:26:22.61 of reading the verse he was asking about. 00:26:22.64\00:26:24.35 So, let's read that real quick, Philippians 00:26:24.38\00:26:25.81 chapter 1, verse--I'll go to 22. 00:26:25.85\00:26:29.62 "But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my 00:26:29.65\00:26:32.99 labor; yet what I choose I cannot tell. 00:26:33.02\00:26:35.89 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having 00:26:35.92\00:26:37.53 a desire to depart and be with Christ." 00:26:37.56\00:26:39.63 Of course, if he dies, the next thing 00:26:39.66\00:26:40.96 he knows is the resurrection. 00:26:40.96\00:26:42.26 He's with the Lord, "which is far better. 00:26:42.30\00:26:44.50 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh 00:26:44.53\00:26:45.90 or the body is more needful for you." 00:26:45.93\00:26:47.80 He said, "If I stay here in this life, it's 00:26:47.84\00:26:49.54 going to be more beneficial to you." 00:26:49.57\00:26:51.27 But when Paul died, he was executed 00:26:51.31\00:26:54.94 by Nero, he went to sleep. 00:26:54.98\00:26:57.25 He closed his eyes, and it's been 2,000 years, 00:26:57.28\00:27:02.42 but for him it's not going to seem like that, yeah. 00:27:02.45\00:27:06.12 Hopefully that--we have a study guide that 00:27:06.15\00:27:07.66 talks about are the dead really dead? 00:27:07.69\00:27:09.09 Jean: Yeah, we do. 00:27:09.12\00:27:10.43 The study guide is called, "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:27:10.46\00:27:12.06 And if you'd like to receive that, 00:27:12.09\00:27:13.53 the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:27:13.56\00:27:16.73 So, ask for the study guide. 00:27:16.77\00:27:18.07 It's called "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:27:18.10\00:27:19.67 We also have a website called deathtruth.com, 00:27:19.70\00:27:22.27 and you just go to it right now. 00:27:22.30\00:27:23.61 There's some sermons on there, some great resources, 00:27:23.64\00:27:26.07 and we'll be happy to send that to you. 00:27:26.11\00:27:27.78 You can also dial #250 on your phone and just say, 00:27:27.81\00:27:31.08 "Bible Answers Live," and ask for that 00:27:31.11\00:27:32.95 resource "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:27:32.98\00:27:35.25 We'll be happy to end it to anyone who calls. 00:27:35.28\00:27:37.92 Doug: All right, friends, we're going to take a brief 00:27:37.95\00:27:40.36 break, but we're coming back with more Bible questions. 00:27:40.39\00:27:43.19 Go ahead, text your friends. 00:27:43.22\00:27:44.83 Tell them to tune in, call in with your Bible questions. 00:27:44.86\00:27:47.23 We'll be back in just a couple of moments. 00:27:47.30\00:27:49.20 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:52.40\00:27:53.70 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:53.74\00:27:56.17 female announcer: Did you know Amazing Facts 00:27:59.84\00:28:01.24 has a free Bible school that you can do 00:28:01.28\00:28:03.35 from the comfort of your own home? Glen: A surprise ending. 00:30:49.51\00:30:51.55 If I may say that right out of the clear blue sky, God said, 00:30:51.58\00:30:56.08 "In the beginning," and when He said that, He started a 00:30:56.12\00:30:59.82 dispensation of time, and I think we're living in that 00:30:59.85\00:31:03.43 dispensation of time right now and have the Bible, which is not 00:31:03.46\00:31:06.80 only history, but also prophetic events, and it takes us--God 00:31:06.83\00:31:11.53 said that He would never pull anything off on His creation 00:31:11.57\00:31:15.00 that He didn't tell them about ahead of time. 00:31:15.04\00:31:17.01 So, I think a lot of the book of Revelation is in this setting, 00:31:17.04\00:31:21.34 things that are scheduled that could take place. 00:31:21.38\00:31:25.68 But the question I have is this. 00:31:25.71\00:31:30.92 When in Matthew it says that things will get so 00:31:30.95\00:31:34.39 bad that even the very elect would be in trouble 00:31:34.42\00:31:39.69 and time would be shortened because of that. 00:31:39.73\00:31:43.10 And then when time's going to be shortened, there's also a place 00:31:43.13\00:31:45.93 that says, "And time shall be no more." 00:31:45.97\00:31:49.07 My question is, is when we come to that time in the Bible in 00:31:49.10\00:31:52.67 history, prophetic and historical things, 00:31:52.71\00:31:57.08 and it says time shall be no more, what can 00:31:57.11\00:31:59.28 we expect after time should be no more? 00:31:59.31\00:32:02.45 Doug: All right, thank you. 00:32:02.48\00:32:03.79 Well, you're talking really about two things there, Glen. 00:32:03.82\00:32:06.79 When Jesus said, "For the elect's sake, those days will be 00:32:06.82\00:32:10.03 shortened," meaning there'd be a time of persecution and 00:32:10.06\00:32:13.53 deception near the end, and God is not going to prolong the 00:32:13.56\00:32:17.27 misery of the righteous. 00:32:17.30\00:32:18.97 The elect will be spared, because the time of the 00:32:19.00\00:32:22.60 persecution and deception will be shortened. 00:32:22.64\00:32:25.37 But in Revelation, when it says, "And time shall be no more," 00:32:25.41\00:32:28.88 there's a couple of things happening. 00:32:28.91\00:32:30.21 One is, I understand, of course, that would 00:32:30.25\00:32:31.91 mean prophetic time is no more. 00:32:31.95\00:32:33.52 All the prophetic times in the Bible are fulfilled. 00:32:33.55\00:32:36.08 And the other thing is we've entered eternity. 00:32:36.12\00:32:39.02 The righteous all have eternal life, and so our view of time is 00:32:39.05\00:32:42.39 going to be different from that point on, in that, 00:32:42.42\00:32:47.56 yeah--do you really celebrate birthdays every 00:32:47.60\00:32:50.23 year when you live billions of years? 00:32:50.27\00:32:53.64 But that's beside the point, I guess. 00:32:53.67\00:32:56.50 Jean: I think specifically you're referring to the phrase 00:32:56.54\00:32:58.81 where in Revelation chapter 10 the angel that's 00:32:58.84\00:33:02.44 seen in that vision lifts his hand towards 00:33:02.48\00:33:04.51 heaven and says, "Time shall be no longer." 00:33:04.55\00:33:06.85 And it's specifically referring to prophetic time, 00:33:06.88\00:33:09.72 because that ties in with the prophecy you 00:33:09.75\00:33:11.05 find in Daniel chapter 8, verse 14. 00:33:11.09\00:33:13.72 But time goes on after that--at least not prophetic 00:33:13.76\00:33:17.93 time, not a date per se, but time does go on 00:33:17.96\00:33:20.16 until you have the close of probation. 00:33:20.20\00:33:22.16 And then, of course, the seven last plagues 00:33:22.20\00:33:23.67 and the second coming of Christ. 00:33:23.70\00:33:25.47 All right, well, thank you, Glen. 00:33:25.50\00:33:26.80 We've got Ben listening in Tennessee. 00:33:26.84\00:33:28.27 Ben, welcome to the program. 00:33:28.30\00:33:30.61 Ben: I thank you very much. 00:33:30.64\00:33:31.94 I'm so excited about talking to you both, 00:33:31.97\00:33:34.14 Pastor Batchelor and Pastor Ross. 00:33:34.18\00:33:37.38 I have a quick question. 00:33:37.41\00:33:39.51 I believe, strongly believe that Jesus didn't die on a Friday. 00:33:39.55\00:33:43.95 Why are we celebrating Good Friday today 00:33:43.99\00:33:47.32 as Jesus's crucifixion and death? 00:33:47.36\00:33:49.79 Doug: Okay. 00:33:49.82\00:33:51.13 If Jesus didn't die on Friday, why 00:33:51.16\00:33:53.43 are we celebrating Good Friday? 00:33:53.46\00:33:56.36 Well, first of all, most Protestants don't 00:33:56.40\00:34:00.04 make a holiday out of Good Friday. 00:34:00.07\00:34:02.14 That's--so when you say we celebrating it, 00:34:02.17\00:34:05.84 most Protestants don't celebrate it. 00:34:05.87\00:34:08.61 You've got, like, Ash Wednesday. 00:34:08.64\00:34:09.94 Those are usually Catholic traditions. 00:34:09.98\00:34:13.05 But let me come back to you. 00:34:13.08\00:34:14.72 Why are you saying that Jesus did not die? 00:34:14.75\00:34:17.72 Because I believe the Bible says Christ was executed on the 00:34:17.75\00:34:20.19 preparation day, which would be Friday. 00:34:20.22\00:34:22.16 So, I don't have a problem with that. 00:34:22.19\00:34:23.76 What is your reason for not believing that? 00:34:23.79\00:34:26.86 Ben: Well, I believe that He was crucified on a Wednesday 00:34:26.90\00:34:29.76 evening, because of the fact that He said that He was going 00:34:29.80\00:34:32.90 to be dead three days and three nights, three full days and 00:34:32.93\00:34:36.74 three nights, and then that wasn't the Passover day. 00:34:36.77\00:34:40.78 The next day will be the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, 00:34:40.81\00:34:44.41 which was to be the high Sabbath, 00:34:44.45\00:34:47.02 which was on Thursday, okay? 00:34:47.05\00:34:49.38 Doug: Yeah, let's talk about that for a second. 00:34:49.42\00:34:50.72 I suspected that you were talking about-- 00:34:50.75\00:34:52.55 there's one verse in Matthew 12 where Jesus--I 00:34:52.59\00:34:55.42 think it starts in verse 38 or 39. 00:34:55.46\00:34:58.06 He said, "It's an evil and adulterous generation 00:34:58.09\00:35:01.46 that seeks after a sign, and no sign will be 00:35:01.50\00:35:03.37 given except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 00:35:03.40\00:35:05.97 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the 00:35:06.00\00:35:08.90 belly of the fish, so the Son of Man will be three days 00:35:08.94\00:35:11.71 and three nights in the heart of the earth." 00:35:11.74\00:35:13.61 And some people believe that means 00:35:13.64\00:35:15.58 that Jesus would be dead three days. 00:35:15.61\00:35:17.61 I think I heard you just say that. 00:35:17.65\00:35:20.35 And not only that, but I believe that some people assume that 00:35:20.38\00:35:26.49 that means He must have been crucified sooner. 00:35:26.52\00:35:29.32 When Jesus says three days and three nights there in Matthew 00:35:29.36\00:35:32.36 12, He's talking about His sufferings. 00:35:32.39\00:35:35.60 The suffering is both suffering and death. 00:35:35.63\00:35:38.60 The penalty for sin is not just death. 00:35:38.63\00:35:40.57 It's suffering and death. 00:35:40.60\00:35:41.90 Jesus didn't just die for our sins. 00:35:41.94\00:35:44.61 He suffered and died. 00:35:44.64\00:35:46.34 And Thursday night, when Christ was betrayed, He said in the 00:35:46.37\00:35:50.01 Garden of Gethsemane, "Now is the hour of darkness." 00:35:50.05\00:35:54.95 The disciples had fallen asleep while they were praying. 00:35:54.98\00:35:57.75 That's when His sufferings began, when the mob came to 00:35:57.79\00:36:00.82 arrest Him, Judas betrayed Him, he was in the heart of the earth 00:36:00.86\00:36:05.59 for three days and three nights, not talking about the grave. 00:36:05.63\00:36:08.16 It's talking about in the clutches of the devil. 00:36:08.20\00:36:10.63 Nowhere in the Bible do we call the grave 00:36:10.67\00:36:12.53 the heart of the earth anywhere else. 00:36:12.57\00:36:14.30 So, people have assumed that was talking about just the tomb. 00:36:14.34\00:36:17.57 Christ was in the midst of the devil, in the hands 00:36:17.61\00:36:19.84 of the devil for three days and three nights. 00:36:19.87\00:36:23.24 Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, 00:36:23.28\00:36:25.51 and He rose Sunday morning. 00:36:25.55\00:36:27.75 So, hopefully, that helps. 00:36:27.78\00:36:29.52 I have a book called "The Sign of Jonah" that 00:36:29.55\00:36:31.59 will give you more information on that, Ben. 00:36:31.62\00:36:32.99 We'll send you a free copy, or anyone 00:36:33.02\00:36:34.32 who wants to know about that. 00:36:34.36\00:36:35.66 Jean: That's right. Just call 800-835-6747. 00:36:35.69\00:36:38.86 You can ask for the book. It's called "The Sign of Jonah." 00:36:38.89\00:36:41.30 It talks about that verse where Jesus said he'd be in the heart 00:36:41.33\00:36:44.00 of the earth for three days and three nights. 00:36:44.03\00:36:46.03 Our next caller would be Tony, also listening in Tennessee. 00:36:46.07\00:36:49.40 Tony, welcome to the program. 00:36:49.44\00:36:52.67 Doug: Tony might be in muted. 00:36:52.71\00:36:54.58 Tony, one more time, Tennessee. Are you there? 00:36:54.61\00:36:56.95 Tony: Yes, I'm here. Doug: Okay. 00:36:56.98\00:36:59.38 And your question? 00:36:59.41\00:37:01.58 Tony: My question is in Luke 17:3. 00:37:01.62\00:37:05.65 It's talking about forgiveness. 00:37:05.69\00:37:09.19 If my brother trespass against me, do I have to forgive him? 00:37:09.22\00:37:17.97 Doug: Well, I think what Jesus said in the Lord's Prayer 00:37:18.00\00:37:21.74 that says, "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." 00:37:21.77\00:37:24.84 Now when you say forgiveness, you know, I think you should 00:37:24.87\00:37:28.71 always forgive people, because if you have bitterness in your 00:37:28.74\00:37:32.71 heart and unforgiveness, that hurts you. 00:37:32.75\00:37:34.62 That doesn't mean if someone has taken advantage of you, you need 00:37:34.65\00:37:37.39 to allow them to take advantage of you again. 00:37:37.42\00:37:40.09 It doesn't mean if someone has stolen your car that you need to 00:37:40.12\00:37:43.26 just let them off without them being prosecuted, because 00:37:43.29\00:37:45.96 they'll just go steal someone else's car. 00:37:45.99\00:37:48.46 Forgiveness, you know, is talking about you need to just, 00:37:48.50\00:37:53.10 you know, release the anger and the bitterness, and let it go 00:37:53.13\00:37:56.81 out of your heart and forgive them. 00:37:56.84\00:38:01.18 You can read that parable in Matthew 18, where Jesus said, 00:38:01.21\00:38:05.01 "If we don't forgive others, considering how much God has 00:38:05.05\00:38:07.28 forgiven us, our forgiveness is revoked." 00:38:07.32\00:38:11.52 The Bible says if we want to be forgiven, we must forgive. 00:38:11.55\00:38:14.92 So am I answering what you're asking? 00:38:14.96\00:38:18.73 Tony: Yeah, I understand that, but I was reading in Luke 17:3, 00:38:18.76\00:38:26.63 says that if he trespass against me, I can rebuke him. 00:38:26.67\00:38:30.77 Doug: Yes. 00:38:30.81\00:38:32.11 Tony: But if he don't ask for forgiveness, 00:38:32.14\00:38:34.58 then I don't have to forgive him. 00:38:34.61\00:38:37.45 Doug: Yeah, I think He's talking about--like 00:38:37.48\00:38:39.91 I said, when it comes to forgiveness, there 00:38:39.95\00:38:41.52 are all kinds of different scenarios. 00:38:41.55\00:38:45.65 And, you know, if your brother does something that is 00:38:45.69\00:38:49.52 inappropriate behavior, there's nothing wrong with 00:38:49.56\00:38:52.16 having tough love and telling him that what he 00:38:52.19\00:38:56.16 did was wrong, but then forgive him. 00:38:56.20\00:39:01.97 But I think even if they don't ask for forgiveness, you ought 00:39:02.00\00:39:04.37 to forgive, because like I said, unforgiveness is like an acid 00:39:04.41\00:39:08.38 that destroys the container that holds it. 00:39:08.41\00:39:10.71 It'll corrode you to not forgive. 00:39:10.75\00:39:13.52 I know people that were mistreated and abused 00:39:13.55\00:39:15.25 by their parents that are dead and gone. 00:39:15.28\00:39:16.72 They're still mad. 00:39:16.75\00:39:18.05 I think, well, what are you going to do, 00:39:18.09\00:39:19.39 wait for them to ask for mercy? 00:39:19.42\00:39:20.72 They're dead. So, you've got to let it go. 00:39:20.76\00:39:23.86 Jean: All right, well, thank you, Tony. 00:39:23.89\00:39:26.06 Next caller that we have is listening 00:39:26.09\00:39:27.40 in Virginia, and that's Rhonda. 00:39:27.40\00:39:30.57 Rhonda, welcome to the program. 00:39:30.60\00:39:32.23 Rhonda: Thank you so much. 00:39:32.27\00:39:33.57 Good evening Pastor Ross and Pastor Batchelor. 00:39:33.60\00:39:35.80 Thank you. 00:39:35.84\00:39:37.14 Doug: Good evening. 00:39:37.17\00:39:38.47 Rhonda: My question is from 1 Samuel 18, verse 10. 00:39:38.51\00:39:42.28 I've been studying it, and I got stuck on the part that says that 00:39:42.31\00:39:46.05 the evil spirit from God came upon Saul. 00:39:46.08\00:39:49.72 So, my question is, how can an evil spirit come from God? 00:39:49.75\00:39:53.42 I believe God to be loving, and He's not evil. 00:39:53.46\00:39:56.26 So, what does this mean? 00:39:56.29\00:39:59.49 Doug: Yeah, it's interesting that it tells us that the Holy 00:39:59.53\00:40:03.30 Spirit came on David, but an evil spirit comes on Saul. 00:40:03.33\00:40:09.97 The evil spirit, when it says from the Lord, 00:40:10.01\00:40:11.97 it just means permission is given by the Lord, 00:40:12.01\00:40:15.44 because Saul had rejected the Spirit of God. 00:40:15.48\00:40:19.61 And when you reject the Spirit of God, none of us is a vacuum. 00:40:19.65\00:40:23.25 If you say, "I want the light out of my room, by virtue of 00:40:23.28\00:40:28.22 your rejecting the light, you're inviting the darkness. 00:40:28.26\00:40:32.23 And it's like the story of Job, where the devil 00:40:32.26\00:40:35.53 came to God and said, "The only reason Job serves 00:40:35.56\00:40:38.27 you is because you've protected him. 00:40:38.30\00:40:40.50 Withdraw your protection, and he'll curse you." 00:40:40.54\00:40:43.91 So, God gave the devil permission to test Job. 00:40:43.94\00:40:48.48 God had to give permission for these evil spirits to take over 00:40:48.51\00:40:52.71 Saul, because Saul had ultimately rejected the Lord. 00:40:52.75\00:40:57.29 So, I don't know. I'm hoping that makes sense. 00:40:57.32\00:41:00.92 Rhonda: Yes, it does make sense, because 00:41:00.96\00:41:02.69 I just knew that God is not evil. 00:41:02.72\00:41:05.56 So, how does this verse, like, make sense to me? 00:41:05.59\00:41:08.66 So, thank you for answering. 00:41:08.70\00:41:10.37 Doug: Yeah, and, of course, you've got the passage there in 00:41:10.40\00:41:12.37 James where it says God doesn't tempt anybody, 00:41:12.40\00:41:15.04 neither can he be tempted with evil. 00:41:15.07\00:41:16.67 And then again it says every good 00:41:16.71\00:41:18.01 and perfect gift comes from God. 00:41:18.04\00:41:20.04 God does not send bad. 00:41:20.08\00:41:21.64 He sends good. 00:41:21.68\00:41:23.08 But sometimes God withdraws His protection, 00:41:23.11\00:41:25.78 and bad will come in. 00:41:25.81\00:41:27.05 And in a sense, someone might say, "Well, He's responsible." 00:41:27.08\00:41:30.95 God does sometimes allow things to happen, 00:41:30.99\00:41:32.49 because we've rejected His protection. 00:41:32.52\00:41:34.99 Jean: Okay, the next caller that we have 00:41:35.02\00:41:36.32 is Anna listening in Oregon. 00:41:36.36\00:41:37.66 Anna, welcome to the program. 00:41:37.69\00:41:38.99 Anna: Hi. How are you guys? 00:41:39.03\00:41:40.63 Doug: Hello. 00:41:40.66\00:41:41.96 Much better than we deserve. 00:41:42.00\00:41:43.60 Anna: Oh, well, that's awesome, so-- 00:41:43.63\00:41:47.47 Doug: And your question. 00:41:47.50\00:41:48.80 Anna: My question is Revelation 4, verse 5. 00:41:48.84\00:41:57.25 "And from the throne proceeded lightnings, and thundering 00:41:57.28\00:42:02.88 voices, seven lamps of fire were burning before the 00:42:02.92\00:42:07.09 throne, which are the seven spirits of God." 00:42:07.12\00:42:10.13 And the seven spirits of God is what I'm confused about. 00:42:10.16\00:42:15.80 Doug: Yeah, I believe that the seven spirits, it's not that 00:42:15.83\00:42:19.27 God has got seven ghosts up in heaven floating around. 00:42:19.30\00:42:22.64 These seven spirits are seven attributes of God the Spirit, 00:42:22.67\00:42:27.61 and the closest I think you find of that is in Isaiah chapter 11, 00:42:27.64\00:42:32.25 and you read verses 1 and 2, and it says, "There 00:42:32.28\00:42:36.28 shall come forth a rod from the stem of Jesse, 00:42:36.32\00:42:38.85 and a branch will grow out of His roots." 00:42:38.89\00:42:40.66 This is a prophecy of Jesus, who is called the Anointed. 00:42:40.69\00:42:44.43 The Anointed with what? The Holy Spirit. 00:42:44.46\00:42:46.86 Listen to what it says in verse 2. 00:42:46.90\00:42:48.96 "The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him." 00:42:49.00\00:42:51.00 That's one. 00:42:51.03\00:42:52.33 The spirit wisdom, two, understanding, three, 00:42:52.37\00:42:55.47 counsel, four, might, five, the spirit of 00:42:55.50\00:42:58.47 knowledge, six, the fear of the Lord, seven. 00:42:58.51\00:43:01.88 And so it kind of gives us seven facets 00:43:01.91\00:43:04.28 or attributes of God the Spirit. 00:43:04.31\00:43:07.98 And sometimes the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of 00:43:08.02\00:43:09.95 the Spirit is highlighted, and sometimes the fear 00:43:09.98\00:43:11.92 of the Lord is highlighted, so forth. 00:43:11.95\00:43:14.06 So, do you have anything to add to that? 00:43:14.09\00:43:16.59 Jean: No, I think you're right, Pastor Doug. 00:43:16.62\00:43:18.19 It's highlighting seven attributes of the Holy Spirit. 00:43:18.23\00:43:20.16 And it is interesting the seven burning lamps of fire. 00:43:20.20\00:43:22.63 If you look at the sanctuary imagery, it was the seven branch 00:43:22.66\00:43:25.57 candlestick, which the Bible makes pretty clear. 00:43:25.60\00:43:28.94 It was one candlestick that had seven branches coming out. 00:43:28.97\00:43:32.81 It wasn't seven separate candlesticks. 00:43:32.84\00:43:34.51 Doug: That's a good point. 00:43:34.54\00:43:35.84 Jean: So, it's one Spirit, but there's 00:43:35.88\00:43:37.18 seven attributes brought to view. 00:43:37.21\00:43:38.51 Doug: Very good. 00:43:38.55\00:43:39.85 Jean: All right, thank you, caller. 00:43:39.88\00:43:41.18 Now we've got Tim listening in Tennessee. 00:43:41.22\00:43:43.18 Tim, welcome to the program. 00:43:43.22\00:43:47.46 Tim: Thank you. Doug: Thanks. 00:43:47.49\00:43:49.92 Tim: I've got a simple question for you, I'm sure. 00:43:49.96\00:43:54.96 My question is in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. 00:43:55.00\00:44:00.94 And I'd like to focus on verse 3. 00:44:00.97\00:44:06.57 This is talking about the second coming. 00:44:06.61\00:44:10.31 It says, "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will 00:44:10.35\00:44:15.15 not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin 00:44:15.18\00:44:21.16 is revealed, the son of perdition." 00:44:21.19\00:44:25.16 I've always kind of thought that was talking about 00:44:25.19\00:44:28.30 a event that happened during the Reformation. 00:44:28.33\00:44:32.50 But as I think about it, it could be something 00:44:32.53\00:44:36.17 around the end times maybe during the mark 00:44:36.20\00:44:39.31 of the beast when there's no gray area. 00:44:39.34\00:44:43.04 You've got to either follow God or follow this man of perdition. 00:44:43.08\00:44:48.62 Doug: Yeah. 00:44:48.65\00:44:49.95 Tim: I just wondered if this has already 00:44:49.98\00:44:51.29 taken place or not, I guess. 00:44:51.32\00:44:53.46 Doug: I think it's taking place. 00:44:53.49\00:44:55.69 It says that there'll be this falling 00:44:55.72\00:44:58.33 away that happens before Jesus comes. 00:44:58.36\00:45:01.63 The falling away is not talking about falling in the 00:45:01.66\00:45:04.07 world, because Adam fell 6,000 years ago. 00:45:04.10\00:45:06.30 That's already happened. 00:45:06.33\00:45:07.64 It's talking about a falling away in the church. 00:45:07.67\00:45:09.84 This is a great falling away, a great apostasy that took place 00:45:09.87\00:45:14.04 during the dark ages where a man, and most Protestants 00:45:14.08\00:45:18.15 believe this was the position of the Pope. 00:45:18.18\00:45:20.65 But a man sits in the temple of God. 00:45:20.68\00:45:23.12 The church is called the body of Christ. 00:45:23.15\00:45:25.89 Christ said, "Destroy this temple made with hands. 00:45:25.92\00:45:27.92 I'll make one without hands." 00:45:27.96\00:45:29.49 The Bible says we are living stones in this temple. 00:45:29.52\00:45:33.03 Paul said, "Don't you know that ye are the temple of God?" 00:45:33.06\00:45:35.60 It's talking about the church. 00:45:35.63\00:45:37.33 And that this power would sit, saying he is in charge of the 00:45:37.37\00:45:42.90 church, a man, and to be worshiped as God, sitting in the 00:45:42.94\00:45:46.84 temple of God showing himself that he is God. 00:45:46.88\00:45:49.11 And, you know, you can even see pictures of the Pope. 00:45:49.14\00:45:51.48 And, again, I'm not trying to be unkind. 00:45:51.51\00:45:52.81 I'm just telling you what Protestants believe. 00:45:52.85\00:45:54.88 You can see pictures of the Pope, and he's 00:45:54.92\00:45:56.62 sitting on his throne between two cherubim. 00:45:56.65\00:46:00.06 Well, that's what you had in the temple in heaven. 00:46:00.09\00:46:02.59 God was between the two cherubim. 00:46:02.62\00:46:04.49 So, it's like a man putting himself in the place of God. 00:46:04.53\00:46:07.86 And certainly, that power had incredible 00:46:07.86\00:46:11.63 sway through the dark ages. 00:46:11.67\00:46:15.00 Received a deadly wound and came back into power again. 00:46:15.04\00:46:17.74 And once again, it's an independent country. 00:46:17.77\00:46:20.38 So, we have a whole study on "Who 00:46:20.41\00:46:22.08 Is the Antichrist of Revelation?" 00:46:22.11\00:46:24.41 we'll be happy to send. 00:46:24.45\00:46:25.88 Jean: The number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:46:25.91\00:46:28.95 You can ask for the study guide. 00:46:28.98\00:46:30.29 It's called, "Who Is the Antichrist?" 00:46:30.32\00:46:32.02 We'll send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:46:32.05\00:46:34.12 You can just dial #250 on your smart phone and say, 00:46:34.16\00:46:37.43 "Bible Answers Live," and also ask for that 00:46:37.46\00:46:39.26 study guide, "Who Is the Antichrist?" 00:46:39.29\00:46:41.80 Our thanks for your call, Tim. 00:46:41.83\00:46:43.13 We've got Lee listening in Texas. 00:46:43.16\00:46:45.27 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:46:45.30\00:46:47.77 Lee: Yes, can you hear me? 00:46:47.80\00:46:49.10 Doug: Yes, we do. Lee: Okay. 00:46:49.14\00:46:51.44 Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:46:51.47\00:46:55.71 My question is how do I know I have the Holy Spirit? 00:46:55.74\00:46:59.85 Is there more than just the fruits of 00:46:59.88\00:47:02.85 the Holy Spirit or are there other ways? 00:47:02.88\00:47:06.02 Doug: Well, certainly, Jesus said, "You'll 00:47:06.05\00:47:07.96 know them by their fruits." 00:47:07.99\00:47:09.62 So, one reason is you'll know by the fruits of the Spirit. 00:47:09.66\00:47:13.33 Now, I don't know that that means that every person is going 00:47:13.36\00:47:16.46 to have all of the fruits of the Spirit all at the same time. 00:47:16.50\00:47:20.34 But, you know, a Christian should know what it means to 00:47:20.37\00:47:22.74 experience love and joy and peace and patience. 00:47:22.77\00:47:26.68 These are things we're learning. 00:47:26.71\00:47:28.78 Also keep in mind, and this is so important, people can have 00:47:28.81\00:47:33.05 the Holy Spirit in different degrees. 00:47:33.08\00:47:37.59 Otherwise, the disciples certainly had the Holy Spirit 00:47:37.62\00:47:40.59 when Jesus sent them out teaching and preaching. 00:47:40.62\00:47:43.12 But when they were baptized in the Holy Spirit, that was a 00:47:43.16\00:47:46.06 special filling of the Holy Spirit above and beyond what a 00:47:46.09\00:47:49.56 person might utilize every day in their walk with Christ. 00:47:49.60\00:47:52.53 So, you know, don't doubt. 00:47:52.57\00:47:55.24 Now, I'm trusting that you do have the Spirit if you've asked. 00:47:55.27\00:47:58.71 The Bible said, if God's willing to give--or rather if a human is 00:47:58.74\00:48:01.91 willing to give their hungry child food, 00:48:01.94\00:48:04.28 how much more will your Father in heaven give 00:48:04.31\00:48:06.25 the Holy Spirit to those that ask Him? 00:48:06.28\00:48:08.25 If you've asked God for the Spirit, and you've asked Him to 00:48:08.28\00:48:10.35 forgive your sins, and if you do feel conviction 00:48:10.39\00:48:13.12 of sin and a desire to do God's will, that's 00:48:13.15\00:48:15.92 the Holy Spirit that gives you that desire. 00:48:15.96\00:48:18.43 Jean: You know, we have a book. 00:48:18.46\00:48:19.76 It's called "Life in the Spirit," and it talks about the 00:48:19.79\00:48:21.50 fruit of the Spirit, and this will be a great resource for 00:48:21.53\00:48:24.80 you, Lee, or anyone wanting to learn more about 00:48:24.83\00:48:26.67 what does it mean to have the Holy Spirit? 00:48:26.70\00:48:28.90 The number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:48:28.94\00:48:32.21 You can ask for the book. 00:48:32.24\00:48:33.54 It's called, "Life in the Spirit," and we'll be happy to 00:48:33.58\00:48:35.28 send that to you, or just dial #250 on your smart 00:48:35.31\00:48:39.25 phone, and you can ask for it that way. 00:48:39.28\00:48:41.78 The next caller that we have is Spencer listening in Oklahoma. 00:48:41.82\00:48:45.19 Spencer, welcome to the program. 00:48:45.22\00:48:47.22 Spencer: Yes, thank you, and God bless you 00:48:47.26\00:48:48.99 guys for your work on this program. 00:48:49.02\00:48:51.89 Doug: Thank you. 00:48:51.93\00:48:53.23 Spencer: My question is I recently heard something that I 00:48:53.26\00:48:56.70 had never heard before, and it was a statement that said that 00:48:56.73\00:49:01.90 not all Christians would participate in the millennium, 00:49:01.94\00:49:05.77 but those who had been rewarded, because there 00:49:05.81\00:49:10.55 were several parables that Jesus had given where some 00:49:10.58\00:49:14.78 are given rewards and some are not. 00:49:14.82\00:49:18.09 And they, when they took it, that is the 00:49:18.12\00:49:23.32 millennium and that reign where some would be 00:49:23.36\00:49:26.36 in charge of cities and some would not. 00:49:26.39\00:49:29.46 Like, I just never heard of anyone putting it that way. 00:49:29.50\00:49:34.70 I had always just assumed that all Christians would go into the 00:49:34.74\00:49:37.64 millennium, but it was interesting to me, and I was 00:49:37.67\00:49:41.98 just curious what your thoughts about that were. 00:49:42.01\00:49:46.21 Doug: Yeah, the way I understand it, as you read, most 00:49:46.25\00:49:49.02 of what you find about the millennium 00:49:49.05\00:49:50.35 is in Revelation chapter 20, that all of 00:49:50.39\00:49:54.82 the saved are there during the millennium. 00:49:54.86\00:49:59.66 They may be doing some different things during that time, but I 00:49:59.69\00:50:02.90 don't see another resurrection where the saved come up separate 00:50:02.93\00:50:06.57 from those that will enjoy the millennium. 00:50:06.60\00:50:08.74 Jean: And, you know, when you read about 00:50:08.77\00:50:10.07 it in Revelation chapter 20, it talks about 00:50:10.11\00:50:11.54 the redeemed living and reigning with Christ. 00:50:11.57\00:50:14.48 Sometimes people think, well, if they're going to 00:50:14.51\00:50:16.04 be reigning, who are they reigning over? 00:50:16.08\00:50:18.41 Are they reigning over the wicked, meaning the wicked? 00:50:18.45\00:50:20.65 Are they alive during the thousand years? 00:50:20.68\00:50:22.48 But the emphasis there, when it talks 00:50:22.52\00:50:23.99 about reigning, the greatest act of reigning was 00:50:24.02\00:50:26.89 when a king sat on his throne in judgment. 00:50:26.92\00:50:29.66 So, the redeemed are going to be participating in the judgment 00:50:29.69\00:50:33.13 that occurs during the 1,000 years, and it's a judgment of 00:50:33.16\00:50:35.73 the wicked, because the righteous are already saved. 00:50:35.76\00:50:37.93 So, that's what's really happening with this reigning. 00:50:37.97\00:50:40.30 It's not that they're dictating to people 00:50:40.34\00:50:42.07 what to do, because the wicked are dead. 00:50:42.10\00:50:43.84 They're waiting for their resurrection at the end of the 00:50:43.87\00:50:45.47 thousand years, but they are involved in reigning in the 00:50:45.51\00:50:48.48 sense of judging and looking at their works. 00:50:48.51\00:50:52.21 And Jesus said, "Every man is rewarded according 00:50:52.25\00:50:53.95 to his works," and the redeemed are going 00:50:53.98\00:50:55.95 to have some part to play in that judgment. 00:50:55.98\00:50:58.39 Doug: Amen. 00:50:58.42\00:50:59.72 So, hopefully, that helps a little bit. 00:50:59.75\00:51:01.12 And we appreciate your call. 00:51:01.16\00:51:03.06 Jean: You know, we have a study guide that's called, "1000 00:51:03.09\00:51:04.53 Years of Peace," and it talks about this 1,000-year time 00:51:04.56\00:51:07.50 period you read about in Revelation chapter 20. 00:51:07.50\00:51:09.26 And, of course, we'll be happy to send 00:51:09.30\00:51:10.83 that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:51:10.87\00:51:12.27 It's 800-835-6747 or #250 on your phone. 00:51:12.30\00:51:17.27 Doug: Thank you, Spencer. 00:51:17.31\00:51:18.61 Jean: Next caller that we have is Alberto, 00:51:18.64\00:51:22.44 I believe it is, from Rhode Island. 00:51:22.48\00:51:24.75 Alberto: Hey, thank you so much for taking 00:51:24.78\00:51:27.95 my call, Pastor Batchelor and Pastor Ross. 00:51:27.98\00:51:31.25 And I pray that the Lord continues to bless and 00:51:31.29\00:51:34.06 strengthen you both in this mission you guys are doing. 00:51:34.09\00:51:37.73 It's fantastic work, and I've followed 00:51:37.76\00:51:41.10 you guys for a very long time. 00:51:41.13\00:51:43.47 This is my first time, you know, making a call. 00:51:43.50\00:51:45.70 Doug: Oh, praise the Lord, thank you. 00:51:45.73\00:51:48.57 Alberto: Yeah, so my question is found at--on Job 1:6, 00:51:48.60\00:51:56.58 and I can read if that's okay. 00:51:56.61\00:51:58.45 Doug: Go ahead. 00:51:58.48\00:51:59.78 Alberto: It says, "Now there was a day when the 00:51:59.81\00:52:02.18 sons of God came to present themselves before the 00:52:02.22\00:52:05.19 Lord, and Satan also came among them." 00:52:05.22\00:52:09.49 My question is this. 00:52:09.52\00:52:10.83 If Satan originated from Lucifer, the devil, and he was 00:52:10.86\00:52:15.13 the first sinner, how come he was able to see God and not burn 00:52:15.16\00:52:19.97 on that, you know, in that verse? 00:52:20.00\00:52:22.44 God used to walk with Adam before sin, 00:52:22.47\00:52:25.51 but not after sin, because of sin. 00:52:25.54\00:52:27.71 Moses asked to see God and His glory, and God said, "You can't 00:52:27.74\00:52:32.18 because you'll burn," because he was a sinner. 00:52:32.21\00:52:34.88 So, the question is, so my question is how come the devil 00:52:34.92\00:52:37.65 was able to see God if he was the sinner? 00:52:37.69\00:52:41.92 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:52:41.96\00:52:44.19 And, you know, I'd have to tell you that 00:52:44.23\00:52:46.83 my answer would be some speculation. 00:52:46.86\00:52:51.60 The devil lived in the presence of God for, who knows, 00:52:51.63\00:52:55.40 it may have been hundreds of thousands of years, as he 00:52:55.44\00:52:57.51 slowly--he was a good angel named Lucifer, and he slowly 00:52:57.54\00:53:00.84 began to resent God's position and rebel ultimately, 00:53:00.88\00:53:05.05 and then finally it broke into an open 00:53:05.08\00:53:06.51 revolt, and he was kicked out of heaven. 00:53:06.55\00:53:08.45 The devil is a spirit. 00:53:08.48\00:53:09.78 Paul says we don't wrestle against flesh 00:53:09.82\00:53:11.42 and blood, but against spirits. 00:53:11.45\00:53:13.39 And so, you know, being a spiritual being may be different 00:53:13.42\00:53:18.83 than what would happen to a human when we're brought into 00:53:18.86\00:53:22.70 the presence of a Holy God with sin. 00:53:22.73\00:53:25.53 But, yeah, the devil, not just here in the 00:53:25.57\00:53:28.50 book of Job, but even before his fall, was in the 00:53:28.54\00:53:31.61 presence of God with sin in his heart. 00:53:31.64\00:53:35.01 So, it is somewhat of a mystery. 00:53:35.04\00:53:37.38 Jean: That's right. Okay, well, thank you. 00:53:37.41\00:53:39.45 The next caller that we have is Emannuel listening in Maryland. 00:53:39.48\00:53:43.18 Emannuel, welcome to the program. 00:53:43.22\00:53:44.52 We have about a minute. 00:53:44.55\00:53:46.89 Emannuel: How you doing, Pastor Doug? 00:53:46.92\00:53:48.52 Doug: Hi, thanks for calling. 00:53:48.56\00:53:51.03 Emannuel: I must admit, like, I really love 00:53:51.06\00:53:53.13 your program, and it really helps me a lot. 00:53:53.16\00:53:56.23 Doug: Praise the Lord. Thank you. 00:53:56.26\00:53:57.73 Well, real quick, what's your question? 00:53:57.77\00:54:01.10 Emannuel: My question is about free will and salvation. 00:54:01.14\00:54:04.81 But when Adam and Eve disobeyed, he blamed them. 00:54:04.84\00:54:08.54 So, how does it really--how does free will 00:54:08.58\00:54:11.68 in that process relate to our salvation? 00:54:11.71\00:54:14.58 Doug: Yeah, well, actually, the very fact that God had a 00:54:14.62\00:54:17.65 penalty for disobedience, He told Adam and Eve, if you eat 00:54:17.69\00:54:21.62 from the forbidden tree, you will die, it's because 00:54:21.66\00:54:25.19 they did have a free choice, and they made 00:54:25.23\00:54:28.76 the wrong choice, that there were consequences. 00:54:28.80\00:54:31.60 If they had no choice, if they had been predetermined to do it, 00:54:31.63\00:54:34.84 then why would God punish them for doing 00:54:34.87\00:54:36.37 what they were preprogrammed to do? 00:54:36.40\00:54:38.37 So, it's because they had accountability 00:54:38.41\00:54:40.88 that there was a consequence and a punishment. 00:54:40.91\00:54:43.38 But we do have a book, says, "Can a Saved Man Be Lost?" 00:54:43.41\00:54:47.02 And we will send you a free copy. 00:54:47.05\00:54:48.85 That's 800-835-6747 to ask for that. 00:54:48.88\00:54:53.79 And Pastor Ross, we just want to tell our 00:54:53.82\00:54:55.32 friends that are listening, if they did not know, 00:54:55.36\00:54:57.59 the end of the program we sign off in two stages. 00:54:57.63\00:55:00.33 We say farewell, goodnight to our satellite audience, 00:55:00.36\00:55:03.30 but stay tuned the rest of you. 00:55:03.33\00:55:05.53 We're coming back for some rapid fire Bible 00:55:05.57\00:55:07.60 questions in just a moment. 00:55:07.64\00:55:09.74 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:12.27\00:55:14.91 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:14.94\00:55:18.31 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:18.35\00:55:22.52 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:22.55\00:55:26.72 Jean: Hello, friends, welcome back. 00:55:28.49\00:55:29.79 We thank you for your Bible questions. 00:55:29.82\00:55:31.83 And a number of you have emailed Bible questions to us. 00:55:31.86\00:55:34.00 We're going to try and take the next two minutes or 00:55:34.03\00:55:35.63 so to answer as many questions as we can. 00:55:35.66\00:55:37.93 If you'd like to email us a Bible question, the email 00:55:37.97\00:55:40.57 address is BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:40.60\00:55:45.51 All right, Pastor Doug, the first question that we have here 00:55:45.54\00:55:47.21 from Leann, she's asking, "How do you know if you 00:55:47.24\00:55:51.58 have been baptized by the Holy Spirit?" 00:55:51.61\00:55:55.78 Doug: Yeah, well, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as we 00:55:55.82\00:55:57.72 mentioned a moment ago, is different from just the 00:55:57.75\00:56:00.52 conviction of the Holy Spirit, and the leading of the Holy 00:56:00.56\00:56:03.39 Spirit, and peace you may receive. 00:56:03.43\00:56:05.76 Baptism means that you are--you know, the word baptism means 00:56:05.79\00:56:09.06 immersed, every fiber is saturated. 00:56:09.10\00:56:12.47 It's like the ground in California right now. 00:56:12.50\00:56:14.07 It can't get any wetter. 00:56:14.10\00:56:15.77 And so when you're so full of the Holy Spirit--this is what 00:56:15.80\00:56:18.67 happened to David when he was anointed. 00:56:18.71\00:56:20.58 He was filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:56:20.61\00:56:21.94 Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:56:21.98\00:56:23.81 At Pentecost, the apostles were filled. 00:56:23.85\00:56:26.15 But you know what? 00:56:26.18\00:56:27.48 That began to dry out, because then they're filled with the 00:56:27.52\00:56:29.48 Holy Spirit again in Acts chapter 4. 00:56:29.52\00:56:32.09 So, the Holy Spirit can, you know, baptize you, fill you for 00:56:32.12\00:56:35.62 ministry, and you'll know that when you just are just full of 00:56:35.66\00:56:40.96 the Spirit, and you feel compelled to share the Word of 00:56:40.96\00:56:43.60 God, and do His will, and obey Him. 00:56:43.63\00:56:45.73 It's a signal. 00:56:45.77\00:56:47.70 Jean: Okay. 00:56:47.74\00:56:48.97 Another question that we have, Ashley is asking, "Why didn't 00:56:49.00\00:56:51.74 Jesus speak of paying tithe during His 00:56:51.77\00:56:54.58 three-and-a-half years of ministry?" 00:56:54.61\00:56:56.61 Doug: Well, actually, He did. 00:56:56.64\00:56:58.58 Yes, some people--Jesus told the scribes 00:56:58.61\00:57:01.92 and Pharisees, He said, "You pay tithe." 00:57:01.95\00:57:04.55 And this is, what? Matthew 23:23, I think. 00:57:04.59\00:57:07.36 He said, "You pay tithe of your mint, 00:57:07.39\00:57:08.79 and your anise, and your cumin," these are herbs. 00:57:08.82\00:57:11.33 "And you've neglected the weightier matters 00:57:11.36\00:57:12.96 of the law: justice, mercy, and faith." 00:57:12.99\00:57:16.53 He says, "These you ought to have done 00:57:16.56\00:57:18.20 and not leave the other undone. 00:57:18.23\00:57:20.30 Do not leave the tithe paying undone." 00:57:20.34\00:57:23.30 So, and then not just Jesus, but, of course, 00:57:23.34\00:57:26.37 Paul in Hebrews and others talk about tithe. 00:57:26.41\00:57:29.34 Nothing in the Bible says that it was revoked. 00:57:29.38\00:57:32.38 So, it's still in place. 00:57:32.41\00:57:34.05 Jean: Okay, another question that we have, Joseph is asking, 00:57:34.08\00:57:36.55 "God says that He will establish a covenant with Israel, but the 00:57:36.58\00:57:40.09 Bible also tells us that God is no respecter of persons. 00:57:40.12\00:57:43.56 Is this a contradiction?" 00:57:43.59\00:57:45.46 Doug: Well, the Lord loves everyone and wants to save 00:57:45.49\00:57:47.50 everybody, but God needed to pick a nation to 00:57:47.56\00:57:50.67 make them the demonstration of His grace. 00:57:50.70\00:57:53.97 So, because He picked Israel to make them that demonstration and 00:57:54.00\00:57:57.17 be the recipients of His promises and the guardians of 00:57:57.21\00:58:00.51 the oracles did not mean that He loved them more than others. 00:58:00.54\00:58:03.58 It means He had to have someone be 00:58:03.61\00:58:04.91 the messenger and the courier. 00:58:04.95\00:58:06.65 And, friends, He wants you to know that truth and accept it. 00:58:06.68\00:58:09.52 Thank you for tuning in, and we'd love to hear from you. 00:58:09.55\00:58:12.02 Check out more from Amazing Facts on amazingfacts.org. 00:58:12.05\00:58:16.46 God bless until we study next week. 00:58:16.49\00:58:18.59 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and 00:58:19.89\00:58:22.23 accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.26\00:58:25.50
