male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:02.90\00:00:05.40 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.43\00:00:09.67 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes 00:00:09.70\00:00:12.64 mysterious, should always be studied carefully. 00:00:12.67\00:00:16.31 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.34\00:00:19.65 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.68\00:00:24.35 answer to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.39\00:00:28.36 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.39\00:00:31.23 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.26\00:00:33.46 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.50\00:00:38.60 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.63\00:00:44.14 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.17\00:00:47.71 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.74\00:00:49.41 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends. 00:00:49.44\00:00:50.75 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:50.78\00:00:53.88 Perhaps you remember "The Jetsons." 00:00:53.92\00:00:56.12 Yes, that 1960s cartoon series about a 00:00:56.15\00:00:59.39 space-aged family that lives in the future. 00:00:59.42\00:01:02.56 They had robots, and they cruised around in flying cars. 00:01:02.59\00:01:07.30 Well, it looks like the future has caught up with fiction. 00:01:07.30\00:01:10.73 Swedish company Jetson Aero has built what it says is the first 00:01:10.77\00:01:15.07 commercially-available personal flying car. 00:01:15.10\00:01:18.57 The company says it hopes the vehicles will be able 00:01:18.61\00:01:20.88 to replace traditional cars in the future. 00:01:20.91\00:01:23.68 The carbon fiber and aluminum vehicle looks like a big drone, 00:01:23.71\00:01:28.12 can carry a 200-pound man up to 63 miles an hour, but it only 00:01:28.15\00:01:33.19 has a flying time of about 20 minutes. 00:01:33.22\00:01:36.32 That'll no doubt improve over time 00:01:36.36\00:01:37.66 as battery technology advances. 00:01:37.69\00:01:40.53 So now for about $100,000 you can purchase your 00:01:40.56\00:01:44.77 own flying car without a pilot's license. 00:01:44.80\00:01:49.57 I don't know, Pastor Ross, that sounds pretty interesting, but 00:01:49.60\00:01:51.64 you sure wouldn't want the battery to die on 00:01:51.67\00:01:53.94 you when you're at about 10,000 feet. 00:01:53.98\00:01:55.91 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:01:55.94\00:01:57.25 It sure would be nice to be able to get into your drone 00:01:57.28\00:02:00.35 and fly to wherever you need to go. 00:02:00.38\00:02:01.88 Doug: Especially when traffic's bad. 00:02:01.92\00:02:03.22 Jean: That's right. 00:02:03.25\00:02:04.55 You wonder what the traffic in the air is going to be like in a 00:02:04.59\00:02:06.62 few years if that keeps moving forward. 00:02:06.65\00:02:09.02 But, you know, the idea of flying has always been 00:02:09.06\00:02:10.76 something that's fascinated people. 00:02:10.79\00:02:12.39 You look at the birds and how they can fly, 00:02:12.43\00:02:13.80 and, of course, you've flown many a time in your 00:02:13.83\00:02:17.83 plane and then also commercial flying. 00:02:17.87\00:02:20.27 But there's something special about just breaking gravity and 00:02:20.30\00:02:24.11 being able to soar in the air, and of course we even find the 00:02:24.14\00:02:27.24 Bible speaking about a time when the redeemed will fly. 00:02:27.28\00:02:30.58 Doug: That's right. 00:02:30.61\00:02:31.91 There's not a lot of verses, but there's a few that explain we 00:02:31.95\00:02:34.68 will be able to fly like angels do. 00:02:34.72\00:02:37.32 One is in Isaiah 40, verse 31: "But those who wait 00:02:37.35\00:02:41.39 upon the Lord shall renew their strength. 00:02:41.42\00:02:43.93 They will mount up with wings like eagles. 00:02:43.96\00:02:46.63 They'll run and not be weary. 00:02:46.66\00:02:48.33 They will walk and not faint." 00:02:48.36\00:02:50.90 And so I'm looking forward to, as it says in the song "Rock of 00:02:50.93\00:02:54.74 Ages," soaring to worlds unknown. 00:02:54.77\00:02:57.57 I want to fly. 00:02:57.61\00:02:59.01 Jean: You don't have to worry about your 00:02:59.04\00:03:00.41 batteries dying halfway there. 00:03:00.44\00:03:02.38 You know, we have a book that's called "Heaven: Is It For Real?" 00:03:02.41\00:03:05.51 We talk about heaven and just--the Bible says eye has not 00:03:05.55\00:03:08.52 seen, ear heard, neither entered into the heart of man the things 00:03:08.55\00:03:11.35 that God is preparing for those that love him. 00:03:11.39\00:03:12.92 It's hard to imagine, but it's real. 00:03:12.95\00:03:15.36 Heaven is a real place. 00:03:15.39\00:03:16.79 And we'll be happy to send you a book if 00:03:16.83\00:03:18.49 you'd like to learn more about heaven. 00:03:18.53\00:03:19.83 The book is called "Heaven: Is It For Real?" 00:03:19.86\00:03:21.90 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:03:21.93\00:03:25.90 You can ask for offer number 189 or ask for the book 00:03:25.93\00:03:29.07 by name: "Heaven: Is It For Real?" 00:03:29.10\00:03:31.11 You can also dial #250 on your smartphone and just say "Bible 00:03:31.14\00:03:35.28 Answers Live" and ask for the book "Heaven: Is It For Real?" to the 00:04:21.96\00:04:23.26 phone lines, let's start with a word of prayer. 00:04:23.29\00:04:25.79 Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word. 00:04:25.83\00:04:27.46 We thank You for the opportunity watching wherever they might be. 00:04:33.27\00:04:35.47 Lead us into a clearer understanding of the Bible. 00:04:35.50\00:04:38.07 In Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:38.11\00:04:41.44 Our first caller today, we've got Ellie listening in Texas. 00:04:41.48\00:04:44.11 Ellie, welcome to the program. 00:04:44.15\00:04:45.71 Ellie: Awesome. Thank you for answering. 00:04:45.75\00:04:48.05 Hope you're doing well. 00:04:48.08\00:04:49.48 I have a question today in regards to 1 Corinthians chapter 00:04:49.52\00:04:55.19 11, verse 10 where it says, "For this cause ought the woman to 00:04:55.22\00:05:04.53 have power over her head because of the angels." 00:05:04.57\00:05:08.94 And my main question was on the 00:05:08.97\00:05:10.97 explanation because of the angels. 00:05:11.01\00:05:14.24 What does that exactly mean? 00:05:14.28\00:05:17.65 Doug: Yeah, well, this is a very interesting passage 00:05:17.68\00:05:20.48 where it talks about, in part, the relationship 00:05:20.52\00:05:24.09 between men and women and a woman's 00:05:24.12\00:05:26.99 hair, especially, like, praying in public. 00:05:27.02\00:05:30.99 And so Paul is addressing issues for the first Corinth--first 00:05:31.03\00:05:35.36 letter to the Corinthians of propriety and some of 00:05:35.40\00:05:39.70 it, we believe, is related to custom. 00:05:39.73\00:05:42.07 But it was understood that as a sign of humility God has given 00:05:42.10\00:05:47.51 women hair as a covering, and if they pray in public 00:05:47.54\00:05:50.51 they should cover their hair 'cause their hair is 00:05:50.55\00:05:52.51 their glory as a sign of their humility. 00:05:52.55\00:05:55.72 If you look in the book of Isaiah chapter 6, 00:05:55.75\00:05:58.62 it says that the angels cover their faces and 00:05:58.65\00:06:01.46 their feet in the presence of God. 00:06:01.49\00:06:04.43 And so it says the angels, you know, are beholding 00:06:04.46\00:06:08.50 when you address God, and as a sign of humility 00:06:08.53\00:06:11.53 that women should cover their heads. 00:06:11.57\00:06:13.27 The big question among theologians is, was this a 00:06:13.30\00:06:17.44 commandment that is universal for Christians through ages? 00:06:17.47\00:06:20.34 'Cause it's mentioned once in the Bible. 00:06:20.38\00:06:22.61 You know, the Bible says in the mouth of two or three witnesses 00:06:22.64\00:06:25.08 we should establish our doctrines, not one verse. 00:06:25.11\00:06:28.32 And it's not mentioned anywhere else. 00:06:28.35\00:06:30.65 So--or was it a custom? 00:06:30.69\00:06:32.72 And later on--and maybe, pastor, also help me find what verse is 00:06:32.75\00:06:36.02 it where he says we have--yeah, verse 16. 00:06:36.06\00:06:39.33 He says, "But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such 00:06:39.36\00:06:41.90 custom, nor the churches of God." 00:06:41.93\00:06:44.73 So many are wondering is this--was this a custom? 00:06:44.77\00:06:48.64 Jean: Seems as though the principle there is 00:06:48.67\00:06:50.37 reverence and respect when you enter into the house 00:06:50.41\00:06:52.71 of God and you're involved in worship. 00:06:52.74\00:06:54.48 You know, Pastor Doug, we've traveled to different places 00:06:54.51\00:06:56.28 around the world, and it's very interesting when 00:06:56.31\00:06:58.18 you go to these different cultures they have 00:06:58.21\00:06:59.91 different signs of reverence and respect. 00:06:59.95\00:07:03.02 We were in India at one of the largest Christian churches. 00:07:03.05\00:07:05.52 You were invited to speak there, 00:07:05.55\00:07:06.86 and it was very interesting for us. 00:07:06.89\00:07:08.66 Their sign of reverence and respect is to remove their 00:07:08.69\00:07:11.93 shoes when they enter into the church. 00:07:11.96\00:07:14.73 And so you go to this church that had thousands of members 00:07:14.73\00:07:18.50 and neatly out front they have little boxes and everybody puts 00:07:18.53\00:07:21.80 their sandals in their box and then they go into the church. 00:07:21.84\00:07:24.64 So that was a sign of reverence. 00:07:24.67\00:07:26.41 In our culture, probably if you are a man and you 00:07:26.44\00:07:28.88 walk into a church and you're wearing a hat, 00:07:28.91\00:07:30.85 it's appropriate to remove the hat. 00:07:30.88\00:07:33.01 So there are certain customs even 00:07:33.05\00:07:35.35 in our society that show reverence. 00:07:35.38\00:07:37.32 Doug: Yeah, and for--people have seen the Jews 00:07:37.35\00:07:39.39 praying at the Wailing Wall. 00:07:39.42\00:07:40.72 For them, the men always cover their heads when they approach. 00:07:40.76\00:07:44.16 And, you know, we've been together there at the Western 00:07:44.19\00:07:46.49 Wall, and when you go up they'll tell you--if you have a baseball 00:07:46.53\00:07:50.03 cap, you're okay, but if not, they'll hand you a 00:07:50.07\00:07:51.77 cardboard yamaka or something. 00:07:51.80\00:07:53.10 They say, "Do not approach this holy 00:07:53.13\00:07:54.50 place without covering your head." 00:07:54.54\00:07:56.64 So this was a custom, we believe, of 00:07:56.67\00:07:59.27 reverence that Paul is addressing. 00:07:59.31\00:08:01.31 Hope that helps a little bit, Ellie, 00:08:01.34\00:08:02.71 and we appreciate your patience. 00:08:02.74\00:08:04.71 Jean: Next caller that we have is Junith listening in Nevada. 00:08:04.75\00:08:07.32 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:08:07.35\00:08:09.12 Junith: Hello, good evening, Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:08:09.15\00:08:12.22 My question is, wasn't the decision of Sarah for Abraham to 00:08:12.25\00:08:21.60 have a kid with Hagar, it was not God's will. 00:08:21.63\00:08:25.20 But then if it was not God's will, could this be a major 00:08:25.23\00:08:30.81 reason why the second coming of Jesus has lengthened up? 00:08:30.84\00:08:35.91 'Cause it has a lot of compromise in this decision. 00:08:35.94\00:08:40.35 Thank you for answering. 00:08:40.38\00:08:41.72 Doug: Yes, okay, well, thank you, Junith. 00:08:41.75\00:08:43.05 The decision of Abraham to--at Sarah's suggestion to use Hagar 00:08:43.08\00:08:50.36 as sort of a surrogate wife to have a baby, she basically was 00:08:50.39\00:08:54.56 functioning as a concubine back in those days, 00:08:54.56\00:08:57.73 that was definitely not God's will. 00:08:57.77\00:08:59.90 Ultimately, God told Abraham--when Sarah said, "Send 00:08:59.93\00:09:03.24 her away," God said, "Yes, send her away." 00:09:03.27\00:09:05.74 Basically, it was a divorce. 00:09:05.77\00:09:07.58 As far as we know, he never saw Hagar again and it brought all 00:09:07.61\00:09:11.95 kinds of strife into the family and through history the 00:09:11.98\00:09:15.42 descendants that ended up growing into, you know, Mohammed 00:09:15.45\00:09:18.69 and the Muslims, the Arab world and the children of 00:09:18.72\00:09:22.19 Abraham--there has been so much strife between 00:09:22.22\00:09:25.93 the nations that came out of that decision. 00:09:25.96\00:09:28.83 Now, your question has that postponed the 00:09:28.86\00:09:30.60 coming of the Lord, I don't know. 00:09:30.63\00:09:32.40 I don't know that I could speculate about that. 00:09:32.43\00:09:34.30 It is interesting that the two largest religions in the world 00:09:34.34\00:09:36.97 today, Christianity and Islam, sprang out of that decision. 00:09:37.01\00:09:40.88 Or you can say they forked, you 00:09:40.91\00:09:42.21 should say, because of that decision. 00:09:42.24\00:09:44.65 So yeah, that was not God's will clearly. 00:09:44.68\00:09:48.52 God said, "I will give you a son through Sarah your wife." 00:09:48.55\00:09:53.05 Multiple marriages is not God's plan. 00:09:53.09\00:09:55.26 Jean: And we recognize that when God said to 00:09:55.29\00:09:56.79 Abraham, "Take your son, your only son whom 00:09:56.83\00:09:59.76 thou lovest," He's talking about Isaac. 00:09:59.79\00:10:02.06 So, you know, you think about that, Pastor Doug. 00:10:02.10\00:10:04.53 Both of these large religious movements, you got Christian-- 00:10:04.57\00:10:07.70 or Judaism and you've got Islam and-- 00:10:07.74\00:10:10.34 of course, Christianity came out of Judaism. 00:10:10.37\00:10:12.34 They all hark back to Abraham, and a lot has to 00:10:12.37\00:10:16.51 do with that decision, whether or not to be 00:10:16.54\00:10:18.75 faithful to God, to trust in God. 00:10:18.78\00:10:20.85 Little did he realize what would come of that decision. 00:10:20.88\00:10:23.28 Doug: It goes to show how one mistake like that has 00:10:23.32\00:10:26.92 ramifications just like the mistake of Adam and Eve. 00:10:26.96\00:10:29.56 Look what's going on in the world. 00:10:29.59\00:10:30.89 The mistake of Abraham has had long 00:10:30.93\00:10:33.86 lasting, as you say, ramifications. 00:10:33.90\00:10:36.16 Thank you, appreciate your question, Junith. 00:10:36.20\00:10:37.87 Jean: We've got Gary listening in Illinois. 00:10:37.90\00:10:39.20 Gary, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:39.23\00:10:41.27 Gary: In Revelation 9:14 and then again in Revelation 16:12 00:10:41.30\00:10:46.81 it says when the Euphrates river dries up four demonic angels 00:10:46.84\00:10:51.78 will be released unto one third of the population and their 00:10:51.81\00:10:56.32 power is fire, smoke, and brimstone. 00:10:56.35\00:10:59.65 So is that power is--are they describing hell? 00:10:59.69\00:11:04.76 Are those angels going to release hell on earth? 00:11:04.79\00:11:08.60 Doug: Okay, well, when you read about four angels who are 00:11:08.63\00:11:11.70 prepared for an hour, a day, a month, and a year, you also see 00:11:11.73\00:11:17.37 in Revelation chapter 7--is it 7 where it says there are 00:11:17.41\00:11:21.11 four angels holding back the four winds of strife? 00:11:21.14\00:11:24.08 It doesn't say they're demonic. 00:11:24.11\00:11:26.11 People are assuming that. 00:11:26.15\00:11:27.82 So the angels that are holding back the winds of strife, and 00:11:27.85\00:11:31.15 then you read here in this chapter it talks 00:11:31.19\00:11:32.85 about angels--again, four angels. 00:11:32.89\00:11:35.26 Four really represents in the Bible--this is universal. 00:11:35.29\00:11:39.16 Jesus said he'll send his angels to the four corners 00:11:39.19\00:11:41.76 of the earth to gather together the elect. 00:11:41.80\00:11:44.03 So what is going to happen here both in Revelation chapter 7 and 00:11:44.07\00:11:49.24 chapter 9 is talking about something universal. 00:11:49.27\00:11:54.98 When you look at the Euphrates river, you need to know some 00:11:55.01\00:11:58.51 Bible history that isn't specifically in the Bible. 00:11:58.55\00:12:01.92 There are prophecies that allude to it. 00:12:01.95\00:12:04.05 Before the children of Israel were freed from Babylon to go 00:12:04.09\00:12:07.49 back to the Promised Land, the Euphrates dried up. 00:12:07.52\00:12:10.56 The reason it dried up is because Cyrus the general in 00:12:10.59\00:12:14.96 wanting to conquer Babylon--the River Euphrates ran under the 00:12:15.00\00:12:19.40 walls of ancient Babylon, which was a huge city, 00:12:19.43\00:12:22.87 and he knew that if he could divert the river-- 00:12:22.90\00:12:25.54 they dug a ditch--big ditch. 00:12:25.57\00:12:28.54 He had an army do it. 00:12:28.58\00:12:29.88 They diverted the water from the Euphrates into a dry lake bed 00:12:29.91\00:12:33.38 and the water level going under the walls of Babylon dropped. 00:12:33.42\00:12:37.19 It dried up. 00:12:37.22\00:12:38.52 The Persians marched under the walls. 00:12:38.55\00:12:40.49 They sent a little contingent under. 00:12:40.52\00:12:42.46 They opened up the inner gates and let the rest of the army in. 00:12:42.49\00:12:46.49 And so for the Jew the drying up the Euphrates is a harbinger 00:12:46.53\00:12:52.30 that they would soon be going back to the Promised Land. 00:12:52.33\00:12:55.87 So when it tells us in the sixth plague that you read about in 00:12:55.90\00:12:59.61 the seven last plagues, it at least has a spiritual 00:12:59.64\00:13:03.91 application there that the power of the beast-- 00:13:03.95\00:13:07.88 Babylon is going to dry up, and you find a lot 00:13:07.92\00:13:11.39 about Babylon in chapter 17 of Revelation. 00:13:11.42\00:13:15.52 Now, whether there is a literal application makes you wonder 00:13:15.56\00:13:20.60 sometimes 'cause, you know, in Revelation it talks about before 00:13:20.63\00:13:24.13 the Lord comes the sun will be dark and the moon turns to 00:13:24.17\00:13:26.53 blood, the stars fall from heaven, powers heaven are 00:13:26.57\00:13:29.97 shaken, heaven is rolled back as a scroll. 00:13:30.01\00:13:32.37 Those things have happened historically sort of as wake-up 00:13:32.41\00:13:35.48 signs, but they're going to happen literally in quick 00:13:35.51\00:13:38.51 succession just before the second coming. 00:13:38.55\00:13:40.85 And so I think maybe God is using the fact the Euphrates--by 00:13:40.88\00:13:45.15 the way, the Euphrates is not totally dried up. 00:13:45.19\00:13:47.22 It's just gone down, and they're predicting it's going to dry up. 00:13:47.26\00:13:50.49 I wonder sometimes if the Lord is using that 00:13:50.53\00:13:52.13 to at least get people's attention. 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.70 But I wouldn't wait for four demons to come out of a cave. 00:13:53.73\00:13:57.77 I've heard people say there are some demons coming 00:13:57.80\00:13:59.40 out of a cave by the Euphrates river. 00:13:59.43\00:14:01.34 Doesn't say anywhere these are demons. 00:14:01.37\00:14:03.54 Jean: Well, there's two drying up of the River Euphrates. 00:14:03.57\00:14:05.27 You alluded to it. 00:14:05.31\00:14:06.61 You've got the sixth trumpet that the four angels release 00:14:06.64\00:14:10.21 from the River Euphrates, and then you have the drying up the 00:14:10.25\00:14:12.18 Euphrates, which is one of the plagues in Revelation chapter 9 00:14:12.21\00:14:15.68 where it talks about the sixth trumpet and the four angels that 00:14:15.72\00:14:18.02 are bound in the great River Euphrates. 00:14:18.05\00:14:19.92 A number of theologians, many of them especially the early 00:14:19.95\00:14:22.62 Protestant reformers, identified that as the expansion of Islam 00:14:22.66\00:14:26.96 under the Turks or the Ottoman Empire. 00:14:27.00\00:14:28.53 Doug: It was the judgment for the-- 00:14:28.56\00:14:30.10 Jean: A judgment that came upon the Christian. 00:14:30.13\00:14:31.60 That's right. 00:14:31.63\00:14:33.03 And they've identified the four main tribal groups that formed 00:14:33.07\00:14:38.07 the Ottoman Empire and their location in Baghdad, 00:14:38.11\00:14:41.01 another one in Aleppo, Iconium, Damascus. 00:14:41.04\00:14:45.41 So these are sort of the capital areas connected with the River 00:14:45.45\00:14:48.12 Euphrates, but that's where these tribes 00:14:48.15\00:14:50.32 came from that formed the Ottoman Empire 00:14:50.35\00:14:52.79 as a judgment under the sixth trumpet. 00:14:52.82\00:14:54.72 But then you have the drying up of the River Euphrates, 00:14:54.76\00:14:56.22 which is under the plagues as well. 00:14:56.26\00:14:58.49 Doug: Yeah, in Revelation 16. 00:14:58.53\00:15:01.36 Well, thank you. Appreciate that, Gary. 00:15:01.40\00:15:03.93 And don't have a book we can offer on that, but-- 00:15:03.97\00:15:07.64 Jean: Something we could write, 00:15:07.67\00:15:08.97 drying up of the River Euphrates. 00:15:09.00\00:15:10.31 It would be interesting. Jerry listening in Texas. 00:15:10.34\00:15:12.64 Jerry, welcome to the program. 00:15:12.67\00:15:14.44 Jerry: Hey, pastors. 00:15:14.48\00:15:15.78 I want to get you guys's take on this one text in Genesis, 00:15:15.81\00:15:20.08 Genesis 6:21 and--referring to the beasts of prey when they 00:15:20.12\00:15:25.32 came on the ark were--of course, we know that God can sustain 00:15:25.35\00:15:29.96 like He sustained Moses on the Mount Sinai for 40 days. 00:15:29.99\00:15:35.60 But were the lions and tigers vegetarians on the ark? 00:15:35.63\00:15:38.37 I guess they would have to be. 00:15:38.40\00:15:39.93 Were they vegetarians before? 00:15:39.97\00:15:42.10 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:15:42.14\00:15:43.84 Well--so yeah, the animals that were on the ark--of course, he 00:15:43.87\00:15:46.81 took two of the clean animals and the unclean--I'm sorry. 00:15:46.84\00:15:52.31 The clean animals were taken by sevens. 00:15:52.35\00:15:54.12 The unclean animals were taken by twos. 00:15:54.15\00:15:55.88 So what did the carnivorous animals eat? 00:15:55.92\00:15:58.55 Well, it says that Noah was told to bring food for them. 00:15:58.59\00:16:01.99 So there was extra food. 00:16:02.02\00:16:04.33 You know, ostensibly he didn't bring, 00:16:04.36\00:16:06.53 like, live animals for the lions to eat. 00:16:06.56\00:16:09.86 The other thing is--they've shown is that when animals are 00:16:09.90\00:16:12.70 taken on a boat, they go into a type of hibernation. 00:16:12.73\00:16:16.40 When boats are rocking, they sort of--they eat very less. 00:16:16.44\00:16:18.64 They're not mobile, and they probably 00:16:18.67\00:16:21.08 were not eating a lot on the boat. 00:16:21.11\00:16:24.91 But yeah, Noah was told to bring food for them, 00:16:24.95\00:16:26.92 so he brought something the lions could eat. 00:16:26.95\00:16:29.68 Jean: And, of course, lions can live--probably not their 00:16:29.72\00:16:31.95 preference, but they can live on a vegetarian diet. 00:16:31.99\00:16:34.46 There are some modern examples of lions that just for some 00:16:34.49\00:16:37.76 reason--little Tyke is what I'm thinking of, a lion that just 00:16:37.79\00:16:40.53 refused to eat meat and he lived very well on--she lived very 00:16:40.56\00:16:46.07 well on a diet of grains and eggs and--yeah, amazing. 00:16:46.10\00:16:51.24 Doug: Full-grown lion. 00:16:51.27\00:16:52.91 Jean: Okay. Thank you, Jerry. 00:16:52.94\00:16:54.24 We've got Sam listening in Canada. 00:16:54.28\00:16:55.64 Sam, welcome to the program. 00:16:55.68\00:16:57.55 Sam: I have a question relating to-- 00:16:57.58\00:17:01.08 how do we know the Bible is inspired? 00:17:01.12\00:17:04.05 I'm studying right now in university and we learn about, 00:17:04.09\00:17:07.92 like, the different flood myths around the world, and it's just 00:17:07.96\00:17:11.56 how similar it is to the Bible's Noah's flood. 00:17:11.59\00:17:16.83 Doug: Yeah. I'm glad you asked. 00:17:16.87\00:17:18.47 Actually the different myths that you find around the world 00:17:18.50\00:17:21.20 regarding the flood--like the Babylonians 00:17:21.24\00:17:23.44 have the "Epic of Gilgamesh." 00:17:23.47\00:17:25.64 The Hawaiians have a similar legend. 00:17:25.67\00:17:29.34 Those myths grew out of the true incident that Moses records. 00:17:29.38\00:17:34.38 Moses gives us the accurate account. 00:17:34.42\00:17:36.99 The other epics or stories, whether it's the Greek myth of a 00:17:37.02\00:17:42.16 worldwide flood--you've got the story in Greek mythology about 00:17:42.19\00:17:45.19 this powerful race that lived in this land called Atlantis, and 00:17:45.23\00:17:50.47 because of their wickedness the island was swallowed up. 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.80 Well, that's the flood. 00:17:53.84\00:17:55.80 It says powerful race that lived and because 00:17:55.84\00:17:57.84 of the wickedness they were destroyed. 00:17:57.87\00:17:59.67 Even Pandora's box, the idea of this woman opened a box that was 00:17:59.71\00:18:04.61 full of evil she wasn't supposed to open. 00:18:04.65\00:18:06.41 Well, it was Eve eating the forbidden fruit. 00:18:06.45\00:18:08.62 Over time some of these true stories, they get changed as 00:18:08.65\00:18:12.99 they're passed along and you develop these different myths. 00:18:13.02\00:18:16.32 But I think that's evidence the Bible is true. 00:18:16.36\00:18:18.99 In the Bible, you're getting the truth 00:18:19.03\00:18:21.16 about what really happened. 00:18:21.20\00:18:22.90 These other civilizations--you know, the Jews were very careful 00:18:22.93\00:18:26.84 of writing these things down, and one reason God told Moses to 00:18:26.87\00:18:30.84 write it down is because over time when they used to 00:18:30.87\00:18:33.64 sherry--share their history orally there was 00:18:33.68\00:18:37.28 a risk that things were going to be changed. 00:18:37.31\00:18:40.92 So Moses was inspired to write down the accurate account of 00:18:40.95\00:18:44.42 what happened, and it has stood the test of time. 00:18:44.45\00:18:47.16 Jean: You know, we have a book. 00:18:47.19\00:18:48.49 It's called "The Ultimate Resource," 00:18:48.52\00:18:49.82 and it's all about the Bible. 00:18:49.86\00:18:51.09 And Pastor Doug just mentioned one or two, but there are many 00:18:51.13\00:18:53.09 proofs in the Bible itself of its divine origin, 00:18:53.13\00:18:55.96 that the Bible is inspired. 00:18:56.00\00:18:57.57 You got prophecy. You got history, archaeology. 00:18:57.60\00:19:00.57 So the little book will give you more information. 00:19:00.60\00:19:02.60 It's called "Ultimate Resource," and it's all about the Bible. 00:19:02.64\00:19:05.81 To receive that, call 800-835-6747. 00:19:05.84\00:19:09.24 You can ask for the book. It's called "Ultimate Resource." 00:19:09.28\00:19:11.45 You can also dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," and ask 00:19:11.48\00:19:15.42 for the book "Ultimate Resource." 00:19:15.45\00:19:17.85 Next caller that we have is Lee listening in Texas. 00:19:17.89\00:19:20.29 Lee, welcome to the program. 00:19:20.32\00:19:22.16 Lee: Yes, sir, my question is, who is Satan in the book 00:19:22.19\00:19:25.76 of Revelation that does false miracles? 00:19:25.79\00:19:28.36 I mean, I know who the Antichrist is and the man 00:19:28.40\00:19:30.50 of sin is, but who is supposed to be Satan? 00:19:30.53\00:19:34.04 Doug: Okay. 00:19:34.07\00:19:35.37 Well, in Revelation chapter 12, for instance, 00:19:35.40\00:19:39.44 it talks about him as the dragon. 00:19:39.47\00:19:41.24 It says that dragon of old, the devil, Satan. 00:19:41.28\00:19:45.41 So it uses four different titles there that we can't 00:19:45.45\00:19:48.18 confuse: the serpent, Satan, dragon, devil. 00:19:48.22\00:19:55.99 And that's--I think it mentions that twice in Revelation 12. 00:19:56.02\00:20:00.46 No, it does twice in Revelation. 00:20:00.50\00:20:02.46 And so you might be wondering when it talks about the beast, 00:20:02.50\00:20:05.83 the dragon, and the false prophet, and you know there 00:20:05.87\00:20:08.87 you've got the dragon certainly the devil. 00:20:08.90\00:20:12.24 It tells us that that old serpent, the dragon, the devil, 00:20:12.27\00:20:15.68 and that goes back to the Garden of Eden when the devil, 00:20:15.71\00:20:18.41 Lucifer, he basically used the medium of 00:20:18.45\00:20:20.95 a serpent to deceive Adam and Eve. 00:20:20.98\00:20:23.65 Jean: Now, of course the Bible does tell us that before 00:20:23.69\00:20:25.15 Jesus comes there's going to be many false Christs and false 00:20:25.19\00:20:28.09 prophets, and the Bible also says don't be 00:20:28.12\00:20:30.36 surprised because the devil himself can be 00:20:30.39\00:20:32.26 transformed into an angel of light. 00:20:32.29\00:20:34.76 So it wouldn't surprise us if the devil tries to 00:20:34.83\00:20:38.00 impersonate the second coming of Jesus. 00:20:38.03\00:20:40.67 Now we know according to the Bible that when Jesus comes a 00:20:40.70\00:20:42.50 second time he's not going to be walking on the earth. 00:20:42.54\00:20:44.97 The righteous are caught up to meet him in the air. 00:20:45.01\00:20:46.84 So if somebody appears, even if they do perform miracles and 00:20:46.88\00:20:50.38 they're walking around on the earth, that's a false Christ. 00:20:50.41\00:20:53.18 So the Bible does give us these guidelines, these pointers. 00:20:53.21\00:20:56.58 Next caller that we have is Angela-- 00:20:56.62\00:20:58.39 Angelina, sorry, from Oregon. 00:20:58.42\00:21:01.29 Angelina, welcome to the program. 00:21:01.32\00:21:03.73 Angelina: Thank you. 00:21:03.76\00:21:05.29 Thank you, and bless--God bless you both. 00:21:05.33\00:21:08.76 Doug: Thank you for calling. Your question. 00:21:08.80\00:21:12.87 Angelina: My question is I was looking at when Jesus called 00:21:12.90\00:21:17.97 the disciples, but I heard somebody said that Jesus didn't 00:21:18.01\00:21:24.18 call Judas Iscariot to be his disciple or his--or like one of 00:21:24.21\00:21:30.25 the apostles, that somebody took him to Jesus and recommended him 00:21:30.29\00:21:36.12 to Jesus because he was good for the group. 00:21:36.16\00:21:39.89 And other comment was that Judas invite himself to be one of 00:21:39.93\00:21:47.30 Jesus's disciples, and I need to find out where in the Gospels 00:21:47.34\00:21:54.81 said that Judas didn't--was not called by Jesus. 00:21:54.84\00:22:02.12 Doug: Well, it says in Matthew 8:19 that there was a 00:22:02.15\00:22:05.42 certain scribe that said to him, "Teacher, 00:22:05.45\00:22:07.82 I will follow you wherever you go." 00:22:07.86\00:22:09.76 Now, with most of the apostles Christ said, "Follow me." 00:22:09.79\00:22:13.60 And they left their nets and they followed him. 00:22:13.63\00:22:15.76 He said to Matthew, "Follow me," and he followed him. 00:22:15.80\00:22:18.13 He asked the rich young ruler, "Follow me," 00:22:18.17\00:22:19.50 and he didn't follow. 00:22:19.53\00:22:20.84 And here you've got a scribe that says, "Sir, 00:22:20.87\00:22:22.94 I will follow you wherever you go." 00:22:22.97\00:22:25.87 And many believe this was Judas because this person, this scribe 00:22:25.91\00:22:31.41 was hoping for some earthly gain. 00:22:31.45\00:22:33.08 And Jesus answers and says, "The foxes have their dens and the 00:22:33.11\00:22:36.82 birds of the air have their nests, but the son 00:22:36.85\00:22:38.62 of man has nowhere to lay the head." 00:22:38.65\00:22:40.36 In other words, "If you're following me because you think 00:22:40.39\00:22:42.19 you're going to get ahead in the world, don't follow me." 00:22:42.22\00:22:45.83 And, you know--and it's not specifically in the scriptures, 00:22:45.86\00:22:50.13 but some understand that the disciples were so impressed with 00:22:50.17\00:22:54.20 the education and the brilliance of this scribe by the name of 00:22:54.24\00:22:57.44 Judas they recommended him to Jesus and Jesus allowed him in. 00:22:57.47\00:23:01.88 Now, there is a place in the Bible where Jesus says, "Have I 00:23:01.91\00:23:03.88 not chosen you 12 and one of you is a devil?" 00:23:03.91\00:23:08.05 So Christ did ultimately lay hands on Judas like he did the 00:23:08.08\00:23:11.95 others and say, "Okay, you're recommending him to me. 00:23:11.99\00:23:14.69 I'm going to go ahead and treat him like an apostle." 00:23:14.72\00:23:16.86 But he kind of put himself forward as opposed to being 00:23:16.89\00:23:19.59 called, if we assume that this scribe is Judas. 00:23:19.63\00:23:23.90 Jean: And we also have some other references to where Judas 00:23:23.93\00:23:25.97 actually held the money bag so he came to be the 00:23:26.00\00:23:28.97 treasure--yeah, he was the treasurer of the group. 00:23:29.00\00:23:31.64 So holding a position of influence. 00:23:31.67\00:23:34.11 Good question. Thank you. 00:23:34.14\00:23:35.44 Next caller that we have is Taylor 00:23:35.48\00:23:36.78 listening in South Dakota. 00:23:36.81\00:23:38.11 Taylor, welcome to the program. 00:23:38.15\00:23:41.18 Taylor: Hello, pastors. 00:23:41.22\00:23:42.52 My question is on Joshua 21, verse 44 where 00:23:42.55\00:23:50.96 it says that the Lord delivered all their enemies 00:23:50.99\00:23:54.76 into their hand, them being Israelites. 00:23:54.83\00:23:58.37 But in another passage in chapter 15, 00:23:58.40\00:24:03.54 verse 63 it says that as for the Jebusites, 00:24:03.57\00:24:07.94 the children of Judah could not drive them out. 00:24:07.98\00:24:10.81 And there's a couple of other instances in chapters 16 and 17. 00:24:10.85\00:24:15.38 So I guess I'm wondering why it says that he delivered all their 00:24:15.42\00:24:18.32 enemies when there's a few instances where they didn't. 00:24:18.35\00:24:22.29 Doug: Yeah, I think that it's just an 00:24:22.32\00:24:23.83 understanding of the phraseology. 00:24:23.86\00:24:26.66 Everybody that Joshua went against 00:24:26.70\00:24:29.73 in battle, God delivered them. 00:24:29.76\00:24:33.27 There's only one example where Joshua's army lost a battle, and 00:24:33.30\00:24:37.01 he came back and then won the-- 00:24:37.04\00:24:38.34 you know, he won the war against Ai. 00:24:38.37\00:24:40.78 The initial battle against Ai, they were defeated. 00:24:40.81\00:24:43.71 God humbled them. They prayed. 00:24:43.75\00:24:45.61 And then they went back, they defeated Ai. 00:24:45.65\00:24:47.32 They defeated all the kings of the Amorites, 00:24:47.35\00:24:49.12 everyone they fought against. 00:24:49.15\00:24:51.05 But they made the mistake of once they basically 00:24:51.09\00:24:54.56 dominated the land they got comfortable. 00:24:54.59\00:24:57.39 They inhabited the cities. 00:24:57.43\00:24:59.09 They'd driven most of them out, but 00:24:59.13\00:25:02.10 they began to tolerate some of them. 00:25:02.13\00:25:04.07 Even by the time of King David, David is still trying 00:25:04.10\00:25:06.10 to get the Jebusites out of Jerusalem. 00:25:06.13\00:25:08.37 Jean: So there seem to be some mopping-up operations, you 00:25:08.40\00:25:10.87 might say, that needed to occur by the various 00:25:10.91\00:25:12.97 tribes once they occupy the land. 00:25:13.01\00:25:15.64 Some tribes were more diligent in doing that. 00:25:15.68\00:25:18.21 Others kind of just settled in and they didn't finish the work. 00:25:18.25\00:25:21.58 Doug: "Once the other tribes--once the other 00:25:21.62\00:25:24.02 nations are paying taxes and they're not 00:25:24.05\00:25:25.49 bothering us anymore, we're tired of war. 00:25:25.52\00:25:27.86 We want to start farming." 00:25:27.89\00:25:29.59 And problem was by allowing those pagan nations to live 00:25:29.62\00:25:33.83 among them, their children began to intermarry and--that's what 00:25:33.86\00:25:37.70 happened with Samson and others, and God 00:25:37.73\00:25:41.34 said, "This is what's going to happen. 00:25:41.37\00:25:42.67 They're going to be thorns in your sides." 00:25:42.70\00:25:44.47 And I think He said, "Sand in your eyes." 00:25:44.51\00:25:46.91 And it became a real curse because they didn't completely 00:25:46.94\00:25:50.35 drive them out as they were supposed to. 00:25:50.38\00:25:52.95 But everyone they--in the days of Joshua, everyone they fought 00:25:52.98\00:25:55.48 against in battle was delivered to them. 00:25:55.52\00:25:58.02 Jean: Okay, next caller that we have 00:25:58.05\00:25:59.45 is Caleb listening in New York. 00:25:59.49\00:26:00.86 Caleb, welcome to the program. 00:26:00.89\00:26:03.29 Caleb: Hello, pastors. How are you guys doing today? 00:26:03.32\00:26:05.29 Doug: Doing great. Thank you for calling. 00:26:05.33\00:26:07.83 Caleb: My question is about Romans 9, verses 11 to 13. 00:26:07.86\00:26:13.30 I'm just confused about it because it makes me a little bit 00:26:13.34\00:26:16.84 nervous because I just want to know is Esau ever 00:26:16.87\00:26:21.38 forgiven and how does that apply to us? 00:26:21.41\00:26:23.91 How do we know we're forgiven? 00:26:23.95\00:26:26.82 Did Esau know he was hated like-- 00:26:26.85\00:26:31.05 and would Esau even be in heaven? 00:26:31.09\00:26:33.59 I mean, he forgave his brother. 00:26:33.62\00:26:36.06 I'm just a little bit confused about-- 00:26:36.09\00:26:38.26 from Romans 9 to 11--11 to 13. 00:26:38.29\00:26:44.30 Doug: Yeah, and I'll read this for our friends. 00:26:44.33\00:26:46.20 It says in Romans chapter 9, verse 11, "For the children not 00:26:46.23\00:26:50.74 yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the 00:26:50.77\00:26:53.78 purpose of God according to election might stand, not of 00:26:53.81\00:26:56.38 works but according to him who calls, it was said 00:26:56.41\00:26:59.18 to her, 'The older shall serve the younger.' 00:26:59.21\00:27:02.25 As it is written, 'Jacob I have loved, but Esau I've hated.'" 00:27:02.28\00:27:05.49 Now, that is a big question. 00:27:05.52\00:27:07.19 So you hear the music, friends. 00:27:07.22\00:27:08.96 If you want to hear the answer, got to stay with us. 00:27:08.99\00:27:10.93 We're coming back after the break and we'll answer that. 00:27:10.96\00:27:13.60 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:17.03\00:27:18.33 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:18.37\00:27:20.74 announcer: Can't get enough Amazing Facts Bible study? 00:27:24.77\00:27:27.38 You don't have to wait until next week to 00:27:27.41\00:27:29.51 enjoy more truth-filled programming. 00:27:29.54\00:27:32.11 Visit the Amazing Facts media library at aftv.org. 00:27:32.15\00:27:37.05 At aftv.org, you can enjoy video and audio presentations as well 00:27:37.09\00:27:42.42 as printed material all free of charge 24 hours a day 7 days a 00:27:42.46\00:27:47.10 week right from your computer or mobile device. 00:27:47.13\00:27:50.20 Visit aftv.org. 00:27:50.23\00:27:52.93 Doug: Okay, friends. Let's start with the basics. 00:27:54.40\00:27:56.81 We know we're here, but we're not here for very long. 00:27:56.84\00:28:00.31 So the most important thing would be if we could learn 00:28:00.34\00:28:03.28 during this life how to live forever. 00:28:03.31\00:28:05.91 This is the central focus of Amazing Facts. 00:28:05.95\00:28:08.45 Now, there's a lot of wonderful things 00:28:08.48\00:28:09.92 that Christian ministries do. 00:28:09.95\00:28:11.39 I believe in Christian education, but 00:28:11.42\00:28:13.59 if the schools lose the message of salvation, you 00:28:13.62\00:28:16.93 end up with more educated sinners. 00:28:16.96\00:28:19.06 I think it's very important for us to build churches, but if the 00:28:19.09\00:28:22.46 churches lose the message of salvation, they 00:28:22.50\00:28:25.23 just become buildings and shells. 00:28:25.27\00:28:27.47 I think it's important to have a medical ministry 00:28:27.50\00:28:29.74 and build hospitals, but if they separate that 00:28:29.77\00:28:32.07 from the message of salvation, you just 00:28:32.11\00:28:34.41 prolong a sinner's life for a little while. 00:28:34.44\00:28:36.61 That's why for years Amazing Facts has made it our focus to 00:28:36.64\00:28:40.62 present the saving truth that sets people free and, friends, 00:28:40.65\00:28:43.95 we want to thank you for your support and your Ross. 00:30:15.68\00:30:16.98 And just before the break, Pastor Doug, we were talking 00:30:17.01\00:30:18.68 with Caleb, and he had a question about Romans chapter 9 00:30:18.71\00:30:21.78 where it says, "Jacob I have loved. 00:30:21.82\00:30:23.89 Esau I have hated." 00:30:23.92\00:30:25.35 Almost gives the idea that they were 00:30:25.39\00:30:27.12 predestinated even before their birth. 00:30:27.16\00:30:31.23 Doug: Yeah, it's--this is referring to 00:30:31.26\00:30:33.43 not Jacob individually necessarily. 00:30:33.46\00:30:36.50 Esau as an individual could end up being saved, not every 00:30:36.53\00:30:40.70 Edomite--the descendants of Esau were called Edomites. 00:30:40.74\00:30:43.67 Not every Edomite is lost, and not every Israelite is saved. 00:30:43.71\00:30:46.98 You know, every individual based on their lives. 00:30:47.01\00:30:49.21 Esau did make a big mistake, and he sold 00:30:49.24\00:30:51.25 his birthright for a pot of beans. 00:30:51.28\00:30:54.85 Well, that doesn't mean he couldn't have repented later and 00:30:54.88\00:30:57.09 turned to the Lord and been saved. 00:30:57.12\00:30:58.42 So this is not dealing with that. 00:30:58.45\00:30:59.69 But the nation of the Edomites generally turned away from God 00:30:59.72\00:31:04.03 and turned to paganism, and they are called Esau. 00:31:04.06\00:31:07.96 The nation of Jacob's was called Israel. 00:31:08.00\00:31:12.23 And so when it says, "I've loved Jacob and I've hated Esau," it's 00:31:12.27\00:31:15.87 not talking about the individuals. 00:31:15.90\00:31:18.37 "I've just decided I'm going to hate 00:31:18.41\00:31:19.71 this one and love this one." 00:31:19.74\00:31:21.44 It's saying because God knew in advance what they were going to 00:31:21.48\00:31:24.28 do, He could foretell which one was going to serve the other. 00:31:24.31\00:31:28.88 Jean: And it was also God just choosing. 00:31:28.92\00:31:30.95 I mean, the Bible says God didn't choose Israel because 00:31:30.99\00:31:34.46 they were more numerous or better than the other nations. 00:31:34.49\00:31:38.36 He chose Israel and was through Israel 00:31:38.39\00:31:40.50 that the Messiah was to come. 00:31:40.53\00:31:42.06 So in that sense the nation was chosen by God, not talking about 00:31:42.10\00:31:45.90 individuals but talking about the nation. 00:31:45.93\00:31:47.97 Israel was chosen and was set apart to prepare 00:31:48.00\00:31:50.74 the way for the first coming of Jesus. 00:31:50.77\00:31:53.01 Doug: And you can't really understand Romans chapter 9 00:31:53.04\00:31:56.01 unless you know what is Paul quoting. 00:31:56.04\00:31:57.85 Paul is quoting the Old Testament. 00:31:57.88\00:31:59.75 He's quoting Malachi chapter 1, verse 2. 00:31:59.78\00:32:03.15 It says, "'I have loved you,' says the Lord, 'yet you say, 'In 00:32:03.18\00:32:06.42 what way have you loved us?' 00:32:06.45\00:32:07.76 'Was not Esau Jacob's brother,' 00:32:07.79\00:32:09.29 says the Lord, 'yet I loved--but Jacob I've loved and Esau I've 00:32:09.32\00:32:12.83 hated, and I laidwaste his mountains and his heritage for 00:32:12.86\00:32:17.37 the jackals of the wilderness.'" 00:32:17.40\00:32:18.70 It's talking about a judgment 00:32:18.73\00:32:20.47 that fell on the descendants of Esau. 00:32:20.50\00:32:23.87 Not so much the individuals, but their nations. 00:32:23.91\00:32:26.64 Jean: You know, I think we have some good evidence, Pastor 00:32:26.68\00:32:28.38 Doug, that Esau actually--if you read about the death of Isaac 00:32:28.41\00:32:32.78 and you have Jacob and Esau actually 00:32:32.81\00:32:34.28 coming together to bury their father. 00:32:34.32\00:32:36.05 So it appears as though there was reconciliation 00:32:36.08\00:32:38.39 at least between the two of them. 00:32:38.42\00:32:40.16 Esau could very well at the end of his life have 00:32:40.19\00:32:42.59 returned to the God of his father, could have 00:32:42.62\00:32:45.09 been a worshiper of the true God. 00:32:45.13\00:32:46.90 But, again, we're not talking about individuals here, we're 00:32:46.93\00:32:48.96 talking about the nations that's represented. 00:32:49.00\00:32:51.53 Next caller that we have is Bradley listening in Missouri. 00:32:51.57\00:32:54.04 Bradley, welcome to the program. 00:32:54.07\00:32:56.34 Bradley: Good evening, pastors. 00:32:56.37\00:32:57.67 Thank you for taking my call. 00:32:57.71\00:33:00.84 My question tonight is on Revelation 14, verse 10 and 11. 00:33:00.88\00:33:06.15 And I see a lot of verses in the Bible that teach against eternal 00:33:06.18\00:33:11.75 hellfire, but I'm actually confused with the phrase in 00:33:11.79\00:33:15.16 Revelation 14 where it says the ones that take 00:33:15.19\00:33:18.66 the mark have no rest day nor night. 00:33:18.69\00:33:22.50 So my question is, if the wicked after being destroyed are 00:33:22.53\00:33:26.13 sleeping, I guess, what does it mean when it says 00:33:26.17\00:33:29.74 they are not resting day nor night? 00:33:29.77\00:33:33.07 Doug: Yeah, well, for one thing one of the big battles in 00:33:33.11\00:33:36.04 the last days is whether or not we're going to 00:33:36.08\00:33:39.88 be serving God or serving the Pharaoh. 00:33:39.91\00:33:42.68 You remember what the Pharaoh said to Moses? 00:33:42.72\00:33:46.02 He said, "Let my people go, that they might worship God." 00:33:46.05\00:33:48.42 And Pharaoh said, "I'm not going to let them. 00:33:48.46\00:33:49.76 You're not working hard enough. 00:33:49.79\00:33:51.09 Don't give them any straw anymore that they 00:33:51.13\00:33:53.43 may not think about worshiping God." 00:33:53.46\00:33:56.60 And Pharaoh said to Moses, "You are 00:33:56.63\00:33:58.47 causing the people to Shabbat." 00:33:58.50\00:34:01.20 Pharaoh said, "You're causing them to rest. 00:34:01.24\00:34:03.34 Those that worship the beast have no rest." 00:34:03.37\00:34:06.31 Jesus said, "Come unto me. 00:34:06.34\00:34:08.11 I will give you rest." 00:34:08.14\00:34:09.74 So the--and Hebrews it says, "They will enter into My rest." 00:34:09.78\00:34:14.98 The rest here isn't talking about like, you know, not 00:34:15.02\00:34:17.99 perspiring 'cause you're digging a ditch, it's talking about they 00:34:18.02\00:34:20.59 have no peace, no rest who worship the beast. 00:34:20.62\00:34:22.99 Jean: There's also judgment 00:34:23.02\00:34:24.33 that's portrayed in this passage. 00:34:24.36\00:34:25.66 So on the one hand there's rest--a lack of rest now for the 00:34:25.69\00:34:28.36 unbeliever, but there is a day of judgment, the Bible is quite 00:34:28.40\00:34:30.90 clear, and in that day of judgment the Bible says everyone 00:34:30.93\00:34:33.37 shall be rewarded according to his works. 00:34:33.40\00:34:36.17 Revelation chapter 20 talks about the lake of fire. 00:34:36.20\00:34:39.01 And if every person is to be rewarded according to their 00:34:39.04\00:34:41.64 works, not everyone's going to suffer the same. 00:34:41.68\00:34:44.21 In other words, some will die almost instantaneously. 00:34:44.25\00:34:46.48 Others might suffer a little longer. 00:34:46.51\00:34:48.88 The devil probably will suffer the longest, and it appears at 00:34:48.92\00:34:52.15 least a day and a night he will suffer. 00:34:52.19\00:34:54.59 It won't be eternal. 00:34:54.62\00:34:55.86 There won't be any--you know, he will ultimately be consumed 00:34:55.89\00:34:59.23 because the Bible says that the wicked become ashes and the 00:34:59.26\00:35:01.23 devils turn to ashes on the earth. 00:35:01.26\00:35:03.06 But there are penalties, there are judgments 00:35:03.10\00:35:05.90 that will come on the wicked. 00:35:05.93\00:35:07.84 And when it says, just to add to that, the smoke 00:35:07.87\00:35:10.01 of their torment ascends up forever and ever and they 00:35:10.04\00:35:13.27 have no rest day, those who worship the image. 00:35:13.31\00:35:15.54 When it says the smoke of their torment ascend forever, it's not 00:35:15.58\00:35:18.21 saying that they're going to be tormented forever but the 00:35:18.25\00:35:21.08 consequence of that judgment, of that fire is forever and ever. 00:35:21.12\00:35:25.82 Those are destroyed in the hellfire 00:35:25.85\00:35:27.52 at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:35:27.56\00:35:29.39 There is no resurrection that comes out of that. 00:35:29.42\00:35:31.66 They are eternally lost. 00:35:31.69\00:35:33.29 And so the consequences of their judgment is forever and ever. 00:35:33.33\00:35:36.43 So the smoke's forever, not the fire, and 00:35:36.46\00:35:38.33 that's just an idiomatic expression that we 00:35:38.37\00:35:40.94 find there in the book of Revelation. 00:35:40.97\00:35:43.41 All right, next caller that we have 00:35:43.44\00:35:44.74 is Hector listening from Florida. 00:35:44.77\00:35:46.41 Hector, welcome to the program. 00:35:46.44\00:35:48.24 Hector: Thank you. Good evening, everybody. 00:35:48.28\00:35:50.95 Doug: Evening. 00:35:50.98\00:35:52.75 Hector: My question concern two verses 00:35:52.78\00:35:58.02 that I have in front of me. 00:35:58.05\00:36:00.69 One taken from John 14, verse 2 to 3. 00:36:00.72\00:36:05.19 He's talking about, "My Father's house have many mansions." 00:36:05.23\00:36:10.50 And we got Isaiah 65, 00:36:10.53\00:36:16.84 verse 21 and 22. 00:36:16.87\00:36:22.78 As Jesus preparing house--in his Father's house has many mansions 00:36:22.81\00:36:29.58 for us and he went there to prepare a place for us, while 00:36:29.62\00:36:35.89 Isaiah 65 we have to build houses and inhabit them and we 00:36:35.92\00:36:45.87 shall plant vineyards and eat the fruits of them 00:36:45.90\00:36:49.30 and verse 22, contrary what he's saying, and 00:36:49.34\00:36:52.87 they shall not build, and another inhabit. 00:36:52.91\00:36:56.18 What can you explain about this? 00:36:56.21\00:36:58.51 Doug: Good question. 00:36:58.55\00:36:59.85 Well, first of all, you're going to have more than one house. 00:36:59.88\00:37:02.35 Jesus says that he's preparing a place in the New Jerusalem. 00:37:02.38\00:37:07.99 That's what comes down from God out of heaven, and then we will 00:37:08.02\00:37:10.99 go forth--you read in Malachi chapter 4 we're going to go 00:37:11.03\00:37:13.73 forth from the New Jerusalem, and it says we will--you know, 00:37:13.76\00:37:17.80 God is going to create a new heavens and a new earth. 00:37:17.83\00:37:20.04 The whole planet is going to be available for inhabiting. 00:37:20.07\00:37:24.57 The Garden of Eden that was created and planted by 00:37:24.61\00:37:27.68 God--before the flood, we assume that God 00:37:27.71\00:37:30.35 took the garden up, the tree of life. 00:37:30.38\00:37:32.35 It's all in the New Jerusalem. 00:37:32.38\00:37:34.12 It's the Garden of Eden, Central Park of the New Jerusalem. 00:37:34.15\00:37:37.29 But we're not all just going to live in the city 00:37:37.32\00:37:39.52 with this beautiful world God's created. 00:37:39.55\00:37:41.46 They're going to go forth from the New Jerusalem, and we will 00:37:41.49\00:37:45.06 have our own country estates and we're going to build houses on 00:37:45.09\00:37:49.36 them and we will plant vineyards. 00:37:49.40\00:37:51.33 See, God made Adam and Eve to be horticulturists, 00:37:51.37\00:37:54.94 to plant and to build and to develop. 00:37:54.97\00:37:58.14 God made men to create and do stuff. 00:37:58.17\00:38:00.88 We're not going to just sit there on clouds 00:38:00.91\00:38:02.91 and play harps in the New Jerusalem. 00:38:02.94\00:38:05.21 Jean: So basically, Pastor Doug, you're saying 00:38:05.25\00:38:06.72 everyone will have two houses. 00:38:06.75\00:38:08.28 You got your city house. 00:38:08.32\00:38:09.72 You got your country house. 00:38:09.75\00:38:10.99 You got a house--a mansion in the New Jerusalem and then you 00:38:11.02\00:38:13.59 have a place that you get to design and build, and you can 00:38:13.62\00:38:17.56 buy whatever you want for your house 00:38:17.59\00:38:19.03 and put it on your Father's account. 00:38:19.06\00:38:20.83 He'll cover it. 00:38:20.86\00:38:22.43 All right. Thank you, Hector. 00:38:22.46\00:38:23.83 Next caller is Don from Oklahoma. 00:38:23.87\00:38:25.47 Don, welcome to the program. 00:38:25.50\00:38:27.24 Don: Hi, yeah. 00:38:27.27\00:38:28.60 My question is in Matthew 7, verse 22. 00:38:28.64\00:38:34.21 Those will come to Jesus and say, "Lord, Lord, 00:38:34.24\00:38:36.88 have we not prophesied in your name and done-- 00:38:36.91\00:38:38.91 cast out devils in your name?" 00:38:38.95\00:38:41.28 And so on. 00:38:41.32\00:38:42.75 And, of course, his response is, "I never knew you." 00:38:42.78\00:38:46.49 So my question is, if they didn't know him, how are they 00:38:46.52\00:38:52.99 performing these miracles in his name? 00:38:53.03\00:38:56.63 Doug: Well, you could ask the question, is it possible for a 00:38:56.67\00:39:00.24 person who isn't converted to be casting out devils? 00:39:00.27\00:39:07.01 You have the example in the Bible where Jesus--I'm sorry. 00:39:07.04\00:39:09.58 Judas followed Jesus and Jesus sent out the 12 apostles and 00:39:09.61\00:39:14.35 they came back and said, "Even the demons are subject unto us." 00:39:14.38\00:39:18.82 And the apostles were really confused one day. 00:39:18.85\00:39:21.32 You read this in Mark chapter 9. 00:39:21.36\00:39:22.86 They could not cast out a devil 00:39:22.89\00:39:24.19 and they said, "What's the problem? 00:39:24.23\00:39:25.53 We usually cast them out. We couldn't cast this one out." 00:39:25.56\00:39:28.20 But Judas was in that group, and 00:39:28.23\00:39:29.53 he was evidently casting out devils. 00:39:29.56\00:39:31.73 And, you know, there's something about the power 00:39:31.77\00:39:35.80 of the Word and the power of the Lord. 00:39:35.84\00:39:38.41 Sometimes God can even speak through a donkey if He wants to. 00:39:38.44\00:39:42.08 So you can have someone, they're not totally converted. 00:39:42.11\00:39:44.81 They can preach and the power of the Word can still convert 00:39:44.85\00:39:47.32 people and the devils can be cast out of that person's life 00:39:47.35\00:39:50.22 'cause the power is in the Word and the person 00:39:50.25\00:39:52.65 themselves may not even be converted. 00:39:52.69\00:39:55.69 Jean: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:39:55.72\00:39:57.03 I mean, you look at people in the Bible. 00:39:57.06\00:39:58.36 You have Saul--King Saul who was filled with the Spirit at the 00:39:58.39\00:40:01.80 beginning, even prophesied, and yet we find him at the end of 00:40:01.83\00:40:05.60 his life totally turning against God. 00:40:05.63\00:40:07.60 So God can use people, and the power is in the Word. 00:40:07.64\00:40:11.44 Just because somebody does a miracle, it doesn't always mean 00:40:11.47\00:40:13.94 that they're always going to be doing what's right. 00:40:13.98\00:40:16.88 Doug: So these are people that they were going 00:40:16.91\00:40:19.08 through the religious motions, even seeing 00:40:19.11\00:40:20.48 some fruit, but they weren't surrendered. 00:40:20.52\00:40:24.19 Thanks. Good question. 00:40:24.22\00:40:25.69 Jean: We got Isaac listening from New York. 00:40:25.72\00:40:28.89 Isaac, welcome to the program. 00:40:28.92\00:40:31.63 Isaac: Yes, Pastor Batchelor. My name is Isaac. 00:40:31.66\00:40:40.64 I'm 14 years old, and I would 00:40:40.67\00:40:45.91 like to know if there would be 00:40:45.94\00:40:51.95 any electronics in heaven, or lamps or anything like that. 00:40:51.98\00:40:57.82 Thank you. 00:40:57.85\00:40:59.15 Doug: All right. Yeah, good question. 00:40:59.19\00:41:01.99 Well, you can read in Revelation it says that 00:41:02.02\00:41:05.56 in the New Jerusalem there's no need of the 00:41:05.59\00:41:08.90 sun for the Lord God, He lights the city. 00:41:08.93\00:41:13.84 So the whole city is illuminated with a light 00:41:13.87\00:41:16.14 that comes from God's presence. 00:41:16.17\00:41:19.11 You know, God is brighter than the sun. 00:41:19.14\00:41:22.64 Jesus is referred to as the sun of righteousness. 00:41:22.68\00:41:24.91 So I don't think we're going to need a nuclear power plant to 00:41:24.95\00:41:28.55 give us electricity in the new earth. 00:41:28.58\00:41:31.52 The glory of God is going to light things. 00:41:31.55\00:41:34.09 Now, does that mean that as time goes by there'll be no science 00:41:34.12\00:41:38.06 where we're going to be using any kind of invention 00:41:38.09\00:41:40.53 or power, maybe even electric power? 00:41:40.56\00:41:43.47 I don't know, you know. 00:41:43.50\00:41:45.37 God created all these interesting physics and things 00:41:45.40\00:41:48.67 and, you know, we might have some creative uses for those in 00:41:48.70\00:41:52.17 the new earth or even on other worlds. 00:41:52.21\00:41:55.31 So it's hard to say. 00:41:55.34\00:41:57.81 I don't picture we're going to have electronic 00:41:57.85\00:41:59.95 devices like we do now, but there may be some 00:42:00.05\00:42:04.69 use of electricity at some point in the future. 00:42:04.72\00:42:06.49 I don't know. 00:42:06.52\00:42:07.82 Jean: And if you think about it like you say, Pastor Doug, 00:42:07.86\00:42:09.42 electronics is really just an outcropping 00:42:09.46\00:42:10.93 of studying the natural laws of nature and 00:42:10.96\00:42:14.00 figuring out how to harness those powers. 00:42:14.03\00:42:17.67 In the universe to come and the earth made new, I'm sure there's 00:42:17.70\00:42:21.64 going to be people interested in trying to figure out 00:42:21.67\00:42:23.57 why things work the way they work. 00:42:23.61\00:42:26.17 There will still be science. There will still be discovery. 00:42:26.21\00:42:28.21 There'll still be learning. 00:42:28.24\00:42:29.74 I don't know if we'll need to create, you know, 00:42:29.78\00:42:33.01 the network like the web--World Wide Web. 00:42:33.05\00:42:35.62 We don't need that in heaven. 00:42:35.65\00:42:36.95 Doug: The Cosmic Web. Jean: That's right. 00:42:36.99\00:42:38.72 But it is interesting, we'll be learning. 00:42:38.75\00:42:40.39 The Bible says eye has not seen, ear heard, neither 00:42:40.42\00:42:42.66 entered into the heart of man the things that God 00:42:42.69\00:42:45.36 is preparing for those that love Him. 00:42:45.39\00:42:46.70 Thanks for your call. 00:42:46.73\00:42:48.00 We got Eron listening in New York. 00:42:48.03\00:42:49.33 Eron, you're on the air. 00:42:49.36\00:42:52.13 Eron: Good evening, pastors. 00:42:52.17\00:42:53.47 I like to know the meaning of John chapter 11, verse 16. 00:42:53.50\00:42:59.41 A few verses before it, Jesus was explaining to 00:42:59.44\00:43:02.81 his disciples that Lazarus was dead. 00:43:02.84\00:43:06.48 In the--in verse 16, Thomas said something 00:43:06.51\00:43:10.02 that doesn't make sense to me. 00:43:10.05\00:43:12.22 Can you explain it? 00:43:12.25\00:43:13.56 Doug: Yeah, well, Jesus is in--he's up in the northern part 00:43:13.59\00:43:17.36 of the country around Galilee. 00:43:17.39\00:43:20.00 He's around the Sea of Galilee. 00:43:20.03\00:43:22.00 Jesus was born in Nazareth, which 00:43:22.03\00:43:23.67 was central Israel up in the north. 00:43:23.70\00:43:26.37 The headquarters was around Jerusalem. 00:43:26.40\00:43:29.34 The religious leaders down there and the priests, they wanted 00:43:29.37\00:43:32.41 Jesus dead because the crowds were following him. 00:43:32.44\00:43:36.48 Jesus had called them hypocrites. 00:43:36.51\00:43:39.11 And when Jesus said, "I'm going back to Bethany," which is in 00:43:39.15\00:43:41.65 southern Israel right--Bethany is not far from 00:43:41.68\00:43:44.12 Jerusalem, Thomas, who is sometimes a little 00:43:44.15\00:43:46.59 bit negative, he said, "Well, we love him. 00:43:46.62\00:43:48.32 Let's go, and we'll die with him. 00:43:48.36\00:43:49.82 He's going to get killed down there, 00:43:49.86\00:43:51.16 but we'll go die with him." 00:43:51.19\00:43:52.73 And so that's why he's saying that 'cause Jesus in order to 00:43:52.76\00:43:55.70 resurrect Lazarus he had to go back down to 00:43:55.73\00:43:58.47 where the hotbed of his enemies were. 00:43:58.50\00:44:01.64 Does that make sense? 00:44:01.67\00:44:04.81 Eron: Yes. Thanks. 00:44:04.84\00:44:06.14 Doug: Okay. Thank you so much, Eron. 00:44:06.17\00:44:07.48 Appreciate your call and your question. 00:44:07.51\00:44:09.11 Jean: Next caller that we have is Jim listening in Indiana. 00:44:09.14\00:44:11.85 Jim, welcome to the program. 00:44:11.88\00:44:14.08 Jim: Yes. Thank you. 00:44:14.12\00:44:15.68 Good to talk to you both again. 00:44:15.72\00:44:17.52 Doug: Thank you. 00:44:17.55\00:44:18.92 Jim: I was wondering in Revelations 16 and 17, but in 17 00:44:18.95\00:44:23.39 it says the ten horns--verse 16, "The ten horns which thou sawest 00:44:23.43\00:44:30.43 upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, 00:44:30.47\00:44:32.97 and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall 00:44:33.00\00:44:35.40 eat her flesh and burn her with fire." 00:44:35.44\00:44:37.81 Now, is--does that there coincide with 15-- 00:44:37.84\00:44:45.18 or 16:21, and there fell upon men-- 00:44:45.21\00:44:51.99 Doug: Were you talking about does Revelation 00:44:52.02\00:44:54.89 17 where it talks about the ten horns, does 00:44:54.92\00:44:57.49 that coincide with Revelation 16? 00:44:57.53\00:45:01.63 I'm not sure what you're asking. 00:45:01.66\00:45:03.23 Jim: You know, when it--yeah, when it talks about, "And there 00:45:03.26\00:45:06.50 fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, and every stone about 00:45:06.53\00:45:10.34 the weight of a talon and men blaspheme." 00:45:10.37\00:45:14.94 Does the city get burned by Jesus when he comes or-- 00:45:14.98\00:45:22.55 Doug: Yeah, the--in Revelation 16 you've 00:45:22.58\00:45:24.99 got in the last plague it talks about this great hail 00:45:25.02\00:45:28.06 that falls upon men, and this is the seventh plague. 00:45:28.09\00:45:31.53 It's all synonymous with the second coming of Jesus. 00:45:31.56\00:45:35.13 The last plague is the Lord comes and, you know, there's a 00:45:35.16\00:45:37.70 great earthquake and a great hail plague. 00:45:37.73\00:45:40.47 Then you read in chapter 17--and keep in mind Revelation 00:45:40.50\00:45:43.34 often backs up and gives more detail. 00:45:43.37\00:45:45.64 You can read in chapter 17 about the fall of Babylon and all 00:45:45.67\00:45:49.24 these plagues that seem to fall on Babylon, but the ten horns 00:45:49.28\00:45:53.48 specifically are the ten divisions of the Roman Empire 00:45:53.52\00:45:59.25 that had grown into the nations of Europe that 00:45:59.29\00:46:02.89 ended up becoming the economic powerhouse of the world 00:46:02.92\00:46:07.60 and that where the seed of the beast is. 00:46:07.60\00:46:11.57 So you almost need to better understand the ten horns. 00:46:11.60\00:46:14.80 You need to read our lesson on who is the Antichrist. 00:46:14.84\00:46:18.41 Jean: That's right. 00:46:18.44\00:46:19.74 Just to add to that a little bit, when it talks about the ten 00:46:19.77\00:46:21.61 horns, it says they're ten kings. 00:46:21.64\00:46:22.98 A king represents a kingdom. 00:46:23.01\00:46:25.05 So there appears, according to Revelation 17, that there is a 00:46:25.08\00:46:28.12 coalition of kingdoms supporting the beast power 00:46:28.15\00:46:31.72 described as Babylon in Revelation 17. 00:46:31.75\00:46:34.09 But when they realize that they've been 00:46:34.12\00:46:35.52 deceived, this is just before the second coming of 00:46:35.56\00:46:37.93 Christ, they actually turn against this power. 00:46:37.96\00:46:41.40 So those powers--those political powers that once supported this 00:46:41.43\00:46:45.17 political religious power ends up turning against it. 00:46:45.20\00:46:48.77 And then of course you have the hail, you 00:46:48.80\00:46:50.47 have the second coming of Christ. 00:46:50.51\00:46:51.81 So it's right near the end. 00:46:51.84\00:46:53.48 The parallel of that is the drying up of the River Euphrates 00:46:53.51\00:46:57.11 where the support that came to symbolic Babylon is withdrawn. 00:46:57.15\00:47:00.85 Those powers withdraw their support. 00:47:00.88\00:47:02.98 Okay. 00:47:03.02\00:47:04.32 We have Andre listening in Colorado. 00:47:04.35\00:47:05.65 Andre, welcome to the program. 00:47:05.69\00:47:08.26 Andre: Yes. Thank you, pastors. 00:47:08.29\00:47:09.59 You all can hear me? 00:47:09.62\00:47:10.93 Doug: Yes. Thank you for calling. 00:47:10.96\00:47:12.46 Andre: Yes. 00:47:12.49\00:47:13.73 So my question is--this one has been confusing me for quite some 00:47:13.76\00:47:17.53 years actually, and it's in the topic of divorce and remarriage. 00:47:17.57\00:47:23.10 And my question is in regards to--in the situation of a 00:47:23.14\00:47:28.78 divorce where adultery took place. 00:47:28.81\00:47:32.95 And can the person who's in the wrong be remarried after that? 00:47:32.98\00:47:42.02 After--is there a time of, you know, repentance that can take 00:47:42.06\00:47:45.86 place and then that person can get remarried? 00:47:45.89\00:47:49.30 And the confusion is, is that person not supposed to be 00:47:49.33\00:47:53.77 married for the rest of their life or can they be 00:47:53.80\00:47:57.61 remarried eventually with true repentance? 00:47:57.64\00:48:01.38 And of course with, for example, David and Bathsheba, wasn't he 00:48:01.41\00:48:07.68 married and then he committed adultery and then he did what he 00:48:07.72\00:48:12.82 did with Bathsheba but he eventually married her? 00:48:12.85\00:48:16.36 So can you please explain that, please? 00:48:16.39\00:48:18.66 Doug: Yes, well, what you're saying is true. 00:48:18.69\00:48:21.33 David basically he killed Bathsheba's husband. 00:48:21.36\00:48:26.53 He did it at the hands of other soldiers and then he took her to 00:48:26.57\00:48:29.70 be his wife, and Nathan the prophet confronted him and said, 00:48:29.74\00:48:32.87 "Because of what you've done, the sword will never depart from 00:48:32.91\00:48:36.58 your house and you--because you did this thing you will lose 00:48:36.61\00:48:41.12 four of your sons," which ended up happening. 00:48:41.15\00:48:44.59 He lost the baby, lost Absalom, lost Adonijah, and lost Amnon. 00:48:44.62\00:48:49.96 And so you can say, yeah, God did forgive David and Bathsheba 00:48:49.99\00:48:55.20 ended up becoming his wife, and God knows you can't, 00:48:55.23\00:48:58.33 you know, unscramble scrambled eggs. 00:48:58.37\00:49:01.04 I guess God can do anything. He can do that, too. 00:49:01.07\00:49:02.64 But, you know, typically once you get into these divorce and 00:49:02.67\00:49:06.41 remarriage things, God sort of meets us where we're at. 00:49:06.44\00:49:10.05 When Jesus met the woman at the well, of course she 00:49:10.08\00:49:12.15 was a pagan and didn't know any better. 00:49:12.18\00:49:13.85 She'd had five husbands and was living 00:49:13.88\00:49:16.42 with a man she's not married to. 00:49:16.45\00:49:18.35 Well, he still revealed he was the Messiah and 00:49:18.39\00:49:21.09 we believe he saved her because she goes out 00:49:21.12\00:49:23.09 right away telling everyone else. 00:49:23.12\00:49:25.13 So--but biblically, you know, there's no grounds for divorce 00:49:25.16\00:49:29.63 and remarriage unless the other partner has committed adultery. 00:49:29.66\00:49:35.04 Jesus said--otherwise, as soon as you start making loopholes, 00:49:35.07\00:49:39.44 everybody starts trying to make the loopholes bigger. 00:49:39.47\00:49:42.51 Marriage is--it's interesting Pastor Ross and I just came from 00:49:42.54\00:49:44.65 a marriage, very sacred covenant. 00:49:44.68\00:49:47.15 If you're watching our television broadcast, you see 00:49:47.18\00:49:48.85 we're dressed up a little more than usual because 00:49:48.88\00:49:51.29 we walked over from the marriage here. 00:49:51.32\00:49:52.95 It's a sacred covenant. 00:49:52.99\00:49:54.29 It's supposed to be till death do you part. 00:49:54.32\00:49:56.42 Now, when there is divorce and sometimes people get divorced 00:49:56.46\00:50:00.16 and remarried and they don't have biblical grounds, are we 00:50:00.20\00:50:03.16 saying that's the unpardonable sin? 00:50:03.20\00:50:05.63 No. 00:50:05.67\00:50:07.40 The Bible says something else is the unpardonable sin. 00:50:07.44\00:50:10.31 But I recommend you talk to a pastor. 00:50:10.34\00:50:14.64 Sometimes there's a lot of more intimate details connected with 00:50:14.68\00:50:18.58 divorce and grounds for divorce than--you don't want radio 00:50:18.61\00:50:22.25 pastors giving you life advice on that. 00:50:22.28\00:50:24.29 You probably get someone local. 00:50:24.32\00:50:26.19 Jean: You know, we do have a book, Pastor Doug, 00:50:26.22\00:50:27.56 that gives some good biblical principles called 00:50:27.59\00:50:30.43 "Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage." 00:50:30.46\00:50:32.29 And we'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and ask. 00:50:32.33\00:50:34.56 It's 800-835-6747. Just ask of the book. 00:50:34.60\00:50:39.23 It's called "Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage." 00:50:39.27\00:50:41.30 We'll be happy to send it to you if you're in Canada or the US. 00:50:41.34\00:50:43.71 If you're outside of North America, just go 00:50:43.74\00:50:45.57 to the website AmazingFacts.org. 00:50:45.61\00:50:48.48 We've got Jeffrey listening in Texas. 00:50:48.51\00:50:50.58 Jeffrey, welcome to the program. 00:50:50.61\00:50:52.71 Jeffrey: Hey, I had a question coming out of 1 00:50:52.75\00:50:55.35 Corinthians 14 and 2 where it talks about the unknown tongue. 00:50:55.38\00:50:58.39 I wanted to get you guys's interpretation 00:50:58.42\00:51:00.99 on that word unknown tongues. 00:51:01.02\00:51:04.13 Sorry. 00:51:04.16\00:51:05.46 Doug: Yeah. Yeah. 00:51:05.49\00:51:06.80 So in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, Paul goes 00:51:06.83\00:51:10.33 into a length explaining about tongues. 00:51:10.37\00:51:15.07 Now, the word tongues simply means language. 00:51:15.10\00:51:17.44 Every time here in 1 Corinthians where you read the 00:51:17.47\00:51:20.01 word tongue, just insert the word language. 00:51:20.04\00:51:23.81 When they were speaking in their services in the Corinthian 00:51:23.85\00:51:26.95 churches, they had slaves from all over the Roman Empire. 00:51:26.98\00:51:29.98 They spoke many languages. 00:51:30.02\00:51:31.52 Their services were becoming confusing. 00:51:31.55\00:51:33.79 People were praying in public in 00:51:33.82\00:51:35.52 languages no one else understood. 00:51:35.56\00:51:37.66 Paul said, "If you're going to pray in a tongue--" And when he 00:51:37.69\00:51:39.66 says unknown tongue, he means unknown to the majority there. 00:51:39.69\00:51:44.10 "If you're praying in a tongue that is unknown to the others 00:51:44.13\00:51:46.50 there, you should have an interpreter." 00:51:46.53\00:51:49.30 Paul says, "If not, pray to yourself." 00:51:49.34\00:51:53.14 And you can read, for instance, in verse 7 he says, "Even things 00:51:53.17\00:51:56.68 without life, whether a flute or a harp, when they make a sound, 00:51:56.71\00:51:59.95 unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how 00:52:00.05\00:52:02.78 will it be known what is piped or played?" 00:52:02.82\00:52:04.72 You know, when you play music, if you give it to 00:52:04.75\00:52:06.29 a child, they just start playing gibberish on the 00:52:06.32\00:52:08.29 piano, you don't know what the song is. 00:52:08.32\00:52:10.29 It needs to be order and distinction 00:52:10.33\00:52:11.83 for you to recognize the song. 00:52:11.86\00:52:13.43 It says so it is--and he goes on and says, "If the trumpet makes 00:52:13.46\00:52:16.93 an uncertain sound, who can prepare for the battle?" 00:52:16.97\00:52:20.17 Trumpets used to give very specific sounds. 00:52:20.20\00:52:23.37 He said, "In the same way there are many languages in the world 00:52:23.41\00:52:27.34 and none of them is without significance. 00:52:27.38\00:52:29.44 Therefore, if I don't know the meaning of the language," and 00:52:29.48\00:52:32.18 I'm in verse 11 now, "I'll be a foreigner to him 00:52:32.21\00:52:35.45 who speaks, and he will be a foreigner to me." 00:52:35.48\00:52:37.75 So, you know, we--he's basically saying speak in the languages 00:52:37.79\00:52:41.92 now--and you read in verse 13, "Therefore let him who speaks in 00:52:41.96\00:52:46.33 a tongue pray that he might interpret. 00:52:46.36\00:52:48.76 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my 00:52:48.80\00:52:51.80 understanding is unfruitful," meaning people listening, 00:52:51.83\00:52:55.07 it's--they don't understand what I'm saying. 00:52:55.10\00:52:58.54 My praying is unfruitful to them. 00:52:58.57\00:53:00.94 So the summary of it is whether you're preaching or praying in 00:53:00.98\00:53:06.25 public, do it in a language that people listening understand, or 00:53:06.28\00:53:10.69 have an interpreter, a translator, or don't speak. 00:53:10.72\00:53:15.56 Now, we have a book on this, 00:53:15.59\00:53:16.89 and I really hope you'll request this. 00:53:16.93\00:53:19.06 It's called "Understanding Tongues." 00:53:19.09\00:53:21.90 It's a book that deals specifically 00:53:21.93\00:53:23.37 with the subject of tongues. 00:53:23.40\00:53:25.33 I know in a lot of churches people kind of break out 00:53:25.37\00:53:28.07 speaking in tongues and it sounds like 00:53:28.10\00:53:30.41 babbling or gibberish and folks are 00:53:30.44\00:53:32.04 wondering, "What are they saying?" 00:53:32.07\00:53:33.38 They say it's a heavenly prayer language, but there's 00:53:33.41\00:53:35.51 no example of Jesus doing this or Paul. 00:53:35.54\00:53:38.91 The only time they spoke in tongues was in 00:53:38.95\00:53:40.98 Acts chapter 2, Acts 10, and Acts 19. 00:53:41.02\00:53:45.79 And there are several language groups present. 00:53:45.82\00:53:48.39 Purpose for a tongue is to communicate thought, 00:53:48.42\00:53:51.46 and the idea of us just babbling in a language 00:53:51.49\00:53:55.23 we don't even understand is not biblical. 00:53:55.26\00:53:58.23 So if you want to find out what the Bible really says on this, 00:53:58.27\00:54:01.54 and it's a pretty compelling book, it's not a big book, just 00:54:01.57\00:54:04.51 ask for the book "Understanding Tongues." 00:54:04.54\00:54:07.41 Now, listening friends, we're going 00:54:07.44\00:54:08.74 to be taking off in just a minute. 00:54:08.78\00:54:11.31 As you know, if you've been listening for a while, this 00:54:11.35\00:54:14.28 program goes all across the country and other parts of the 00:54:14.32\00:54:16.75 world and we kind of sign off in two stages because some are 00:54:16.79\00:54:20.49 listening via satellite, which is on a different 00:54:20.52\00:54:22.76 schedule from the land-based stations. 00:54:22.79\00:54:24.83 So in a moment we're going to say farewell to those who are 00:54:24.86\00:54:27.20 listening by satellite, and then we're going to come back and 00:54:27.23\00:54:30.70 we're going to answer some rapid fire Bible questions. 00:54:30.73\00:54:34.44 And two things, Pastor Ross. 00:54:34.47\00:54:35.77 One is, how does a person get the book "Unknown Tongues?" 00:54:35.80\00:54:40.28 And the other is, how do they send in their questions? 00:54:40.31\00:54:42.68 Jean: Okay, to get the book, just call 800-835-6747. 00:54:42.71\00:54:46.45 That is our resource phone line. Ask for the book. 00:54:46.48\00:54:48.92 It's called "Understanding Tongues." 00:54:48.95\00:54:50.45 We'll be happy to send it to you if you're 00:54:50.49\00:54:51.82 in Canada or in North America. 00:54:51.85\00:54:53.86 And if you'd like to email us your Bible question, we'll 00:54:53.89\00:54:57.19 include it in our program, just simply send an email to 00:54:57.23\00:55:00.90 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org, BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:00.93\00:55:07.60 And we'll be back in just a few 00:55:07.64\00:55:08.94 moments with some email questions. 00:55:08.97\00:55:11.24 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:13.91\00:55:16.44 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:16.48\00:55:20.08 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:20.12\00:55:24.19 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:24.22\00:55:28.82 Jean: Hello, friends. 00:55:29.62\00:55:30.93 Welcome back for our email questions or the 00:55:30.96\00:55:33.03 texting questions that have come in. 00:55:33.06\00:55:34.93 Pastor Doug, we have several good ones this evening. 00:55:34.93\00:55:37.40 Question number one, "Are the seven 00:55:37.43\00:55:38.97 last plagues literal or figurative?" 00:55:39.00\00:55:42.40 Doug: Well, both. 00:55:42.44\00:55:43.74 We believe that they're real because you read in Revelation 00:55:43.77\00:55:48.71 when it talks in chapter 15, 16 about the seven last plagues, 00:55:48.74\00:55:52.18 many of them are similar to the plagues that fell 00:55:52.21\00:55:53.82 on ancient Egypt, which were very real. 00:55:53.85\00:55:57.25 There were ten plagues that fell on Egypt as a prelude to their 00:55:57.29\00:56:01.76 deliverance and the journey to the Promised Land. 00:56:01.79\00:56:05.29 The children of Israel were protected from 00:56:05.33\00:56:07.03 the last seven of those ten plagues. 00:56:07.10\00:56:09.96 So in Revelation when it says there are seven plagues God 00:56:10.00\00:56:12.80 protects us through those seven last plagues, but they are very 00:56:12.83\00:56:16.60 real plagues that prelude our deliverance from this world and 00:56:16.64\00:56:20.08 beginning a journey to God's promised land. 00:56:20.11\00:56:23.04 Now, there may be some spiritual applications to some of the 00:56:23.08\00:56:26.08 plagues like the darkness on the seat of the beast, probably 00:56:26.11\00:56:28.78 literal darkness, but it means they're also living in darkness. 00:56:28.82\00:56:32.49 Jean: All right, next question that we have, it says, "When 00:56:32.52\00:56:34.26 Jesus says he baptizes with fire, what does it mean?" 00:56:34.29\00:56:39.06 Doug: The Holy Spirit because John the Baptist 00:56:39.09\00:56:42.20 says that he that comes after you 00:56:42.23\00:56:44.63 will baptize you in fire in the Spirit. 00:56:44.67\00:56:47.34 He makes it clear what that--and then you look in Acts chapter 2. 00:56:47.37\00:56:50.71 When the Holy Spirit fell on the apostles, 00:56:50.74\00:56:52.51 it says it came like tongues of fire. 00:56:52.54\00:56:55.61 The children of Israel when they came out of Egypt they went 00:56:55.64\00:56:58.01 through the Red Sea, baptized in water, then they were baptized 00:56:58.05\00:57:01.22 in a pillar of fire that God used to protect them. 00:57:01.25\00:57:04.59 We need both baptisms. 00:57:04.62\00:57:07.36 Jean: "Did Jesus die on Wednesday if the Bible says he 00:57:07.39\00:57:10.26 was three days and three nights in the heart of the earth?" 00:57:10.29\00:57:13.66 Doug: No. 00:57:13.70\00:57:14.96 The only reason people try to move the crucifixion to a 00:57:15.00\00:57:16.83 Wednesday is they misunderstand Matthew chapter 12 where Jesus 00:57:16.87\00:57:20.64 said, "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the heart of 00:57:20.67\00:57:23.64 the earth, so the son of man will be--" Rather "Jonah three 00:57:23.67\00:57:26.44 days, three nights in the belly of the fish, so the son of man 00:57:26.47\00:57:29.24 will be three days, three nights in the heart of the earth." 00:57:29.28\00:57:31.98 The three days of Jesus begins with his suffering and his 00:57:32.01\00:57:37.42 surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:57:37.45\00:57:40.52 So it's talking about Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday 00:57:40.56\00:57:43.69 night he was suffering for the sins of the world. 00:57:43.73\00:57:46.03 That's including the suffering, the death, and the tomb. 00:57:46.06\00:57:49.13 He rose Sunday morning. 00:57:49.16\00:57:50.60 So you don't need to move the crucifixion to Wednesday. 00:57:50.63\00:57:54.44 By the way, we do have a book that talks about that three days 00:57:54.47\00:57:56.77 and three nights, and it's called "The Sign of Jonah." 00:57:56.81\00:57:59.54 Jean: That's right. 00:57:59.57\00:58:00.94 If you'd like to receive the book, just call 800-835-6747. 00:58:00.98\00:58:04.65 Pastor Doug, one more. 00:58:04.68\00:58:05.98 "Where in the Bible does it say, 'God 00:58:06.01\00:58:07.58 helps those who help themselves?'" 00:58:07.62\00:58:09.32 Doug: Doesn't say that in the Bible. 00:58:09.35\00:58:10.99 That was Benjamin Franklin. 00:58:11.02\00:58:12.65 Hey, listening friends, we're going to learn more next week. 00:58:12.69\00:58:14.79 Tune in, tell your friends, and go to AmazingFacts.org. 00:58:14.82\00:58:19.09
