male announcer: It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.40 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.43\00:00:09.64 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.67\00:00:13.61 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.64\00:00:16.21 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.24\00:00:19.61 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.07\00:00:47.84 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.88\00:00:49.61 Doug Batchelor: Hello, listening friends. 00:00:49.64\00:00:50.95 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:50.98\00:00:54.28 Peregrine falcons are among the most amazing raptors 00:00:54.32\00:00:57.55 that can be found all around the world. 00:00:57.59\00:00:59.65 Scientists estimate that the falcon's vision 00:00:59.69\00:01:02.76 is eight times better than a human's. 00:01:02.79\00:01:05.39 This allows the birds to spot small prey from nearly 2 miles 00:01:05.43\00:01:08.73 away then swoop down with precision to catch it. 00:01:08.76\00:01:12.47 They're monogamous birds that mate for life, which is about 20 00:01:12.50\00:01:15.70 years, and they migrate over 15,000 00:01:15.74\00:01:18.74 miles a year to their nesting grounds. 00:01:18.77\00:01:21.78 The peregrine falcon is not only the fastest bird, 00:01:21.81\00:01:25.11 but it's the fastest animal in the world. 00:01:25.15\00:01:28.08 When diving for prey, they can reach 00:01:28.12\00:01:30.15 speeds of up to 240 miles an hour. 00:01:30.19\00:01:33.49 Now, just for perspective, the fastest 00:01:33.52\00:01:35.72 that a professional baseball player can pitch 00:01:35.76\00:01:38.56 is less than half of that, 106 miles an hour. 00:01:38.59\00:01:42.43 At these times when a peregrine falcon is diving, the air 00:01:42.46\00:01:45.77 entering its nose would normally cause its lungs 00:01:45.80\00:01:48.30 to explode, but the bony tubercles in its 00:01:48.34\00:01:52.07 nares safely regulate the stream of air. 00:01:52.11\00:01:55.51 It was by using this knowledge that jet turbine engineers 00:01:55.54\00:01:58.85 solved the air in-deck problem--intake problems in jet 00:01:58.88\00:02:02.05 engines and created a similar system. 00:02:02.08\00:02:05.42 The Bible asks in the book of Job chapter 39, verse 26, 00:02:05.45\00:02:09.86 "Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and 00:02:09.89\00:02:12.53 spread out its wings towards the south?" 00:02:12.56\00:02:15.00 You know, it's amazing, Pastor Ross, how many of these 00:02:15.03\00:02:17.73 creatures that God has made have just such unique engineering. 00:02:17.77\00:02:23.91 The idea that that could all happen 00:02:23.94\00:02:25.27 by accident is really absurd. 00:02:25.31\00:02:27.24 Jean Ross: That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:02:27.28\00:02:28.71 You know, the amazing thing is that there are so many things 00:02:28.74\00:02:30.85 that we use today in our modern society--for example, you 00:02:30.88\00:02:34.72 mentioned jet engines, how they learn from the birds. 00:02:34.75\00:02:38.19 And so there are so many things from nature, the things that God 00:02:38.22\00:02:40.49 created that we can learn and that we have used. 00:02:40.52\00:02:43.26 I'm thinking, for example, the dragonfly and the helicopter. 00:02:43.29\00:02:46.36 And there's just so many similarities and 00:02:46.39\00:02:48.20 things that have been learned from nature. 00:02:48.23\00:02:50.03 And when you look at the wonders of creation, it testifies of a 00:02:50.07\00:02:53.70 mighty creator and a God that cares, a God that is concerned 00:02:53.74\00:02:57.67 even about the smallest creatures that He makes. 00:02:57.71\00:03:00.38 Doug: Yep. 00:03:00.41\00:03:01.64 There's a wonderful verse in the book of Job chapter 12, verse 7: 00:03:01.68\00:03:05.31 "But now ask the beasts, and they will teach 00:03:05.35\00:03:08.02 you; and the birds of the air, and they will tell you; 00:03:08.05\00:03:12.02 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; 00:03:12.05\00:03:13.86 and the fish of the sea will explain to you. 00:03:13.89\00:03:16.29 Who among all these does not know that 00:03:16.32\00:03:18.93 the hand of the Lord has done this?" 00:03:18.96\00:03:21.43 It's so clear from the things that God has made that there is 00:03:21.46\00:03:24.33 a designer, and maybe our listeners out there would like 00:03:24.37\00:03:27.67 to know more about this powerful God and His infinite wisdom that 00:03:27.70\00:03:31.81 has designed these incredible symbiotic relationships between 00:03:31.84\00:03:36.08 all of His creatures and just engineering of 00:03:36.11\00:03:39.35 these animals that can run and fly so fast. 00:03:39.38\00:03:41.78 Jean: Yes, we have a book, and the book is 00:03:41.82\00:03:43.39 called "Amazing Wonders of Creation." 00:03:43.42\00:03:45.89 And this is free, friends. 00:03:45.92\00:03:47.22 We'll be happy to send this to anyone in 00:03:47.26\00:03:49.42 North America, in the US and Canada. 00:03:49.46\00:03:51.43 All you have to do is call. 00:03:51.46\00:03:52.76 The number is 800-835-6747 and ask for the book. 00:03:52.79\00:03:57.20 It's called "Amazing Wonders of Creation." 00:03:57.23\00:03:59.90 You can also text by just #250, say "Bible Answers Live," and 00:03:59.93\00:04:05.74 then ask for the free offer "Amazing Wonders of Creation." 00:04:05.77\00:04:09.21 You'll be able to get it that way as well. 00:04:09.24\00:04:11.31 We also want to greet those who are listening. 00:04:11.35\00:04:13.25 We do have some phone lines open. 00:04:13.28\00:04:15.28 So if you'd like to call in with your Bible question, 00:04:15.32\00:04:17.39 the number is 800-GOD-SAYS. 00:04:17.42\00:04:19.05 That's 800-463-7297. 00:04:19.09\00:04:22.42 That'll bring you right here into the studio, 00:04:22.46\00:04:24.29 and you can ask your Bible question on line. 00:04:24.33\00:04:26.59 You know, Pastor Doug, before we go to the phones, 00:04:26.63\00:04:28.36 we just want to greet our friends who 00:04:28.40\00:04:29.70 are listening, as they say, down under. 00:04:29.73\00:04:31.97 We were just recently in Australia and New Zealand and a 00:04:32.00\00:04:34.47 number of folks came up and said, 00:04:34.50\00:04:35.80 "Well, we listen to 'Bible Answers Live.'" 00:04:35.84\00:04:37.77 Now, of course, it's not 7 p.m. their time, but 00:04:37.81\00:04:41.58 it's of course--I think it's the middle of the day if-- 00:04:41.61\00:04:43.95 Doug: New Zealand would be about 3 hours earlier, and East 00:04:43.98\00:04:47.45 Coast would be about 6 hours earlier. 00:04:47.48\00:04:49.58 Jean: That's right, so we know folks are out there 00:04:49.62\00:04:52.09 listening, so we want to greet all of you. 00:04:52.12\00:04:53.62 We had a wonderful series of meetings in Melbourne, 00:04:53.66\00:04:56.66 Brisbane, and then also in Auckland. 00:04:56.69\00:04:58.59 So if you have a Bible question, you can go ahead and call as 00:04:58.63\00:05:01.70 well and we'll try and get your question on the program. 00:05:01.73\00:05:04.73 Our first caller this evening is Gary listening in Illinois. 00:05:04.77\00:05:07.20 Gary, welcome to the program. 00:05:07.24\00:05:10.21 Gary: Thank you. 00:05:10.24\00:05:11.54 My question is with the church there's no emphasis with 00:05:11.57\00:05:15.28 environmentalism, even though in the Bible Genesis 1:28 says that 00:05:15.31\00:05:21.12 God gives dominion of the planet to Adam and Eve. 00:05:21.15\00:05:23.95 I take that to mean we're to be good stewards of the planet. 00:05:23.99\00:05:27.19 And then in Revelation 11:18 God says, "I will 00:05:27.22\00:05:30.99 destroy those who destroy the earth." 00:05:31.03\00:05:33.43 And so with that--I mean, climate 00:05:33.46\00:05:36.60 change events are overwhelming. 00:05:36.63\00:05:39.37 You know, we got to give our children and 00:05:39.40\00:05:40.80 grandchildren a chance to be saved. 00:05:40.84\00:05:43.64 Doug: That's a great question, Gary. 00:05:43.67\00:05:45.64 You know, it's interesting you would ask that 00:05:45.67\00:05:47.31 because just today I was listening to 00:05:47.34\00:05:49.61 a biblical message on that very subject. 00:05:49.64\00:05:52.58 It's interesting how the Lord arranges those things. 00:05:52.61\00:05:55.15 And I think the Christian needs to have a balanced approach. 00:05:55.18\00:05:58.89 According to Jesus, when you talk about the value of 00:05:58.92\00:06:01.36 creatures, humans are infinitely more valuable than sheep. 00:06:01.39\00:06:06.43 You know, Jesus said, "Are you not worth more than many sheep, 00:06:06.46\00:06:08.60 or are you not worth more than many sparrows?" 00:06:08.63\00:06:11.10 But the animals do have value. 00:06:11.13\00:06:13.03 When God created the world, He creates this beautiful 00:06:13.07\00:06:15.64 environment for the crowning act of His creation, which are these 00:06:15.67\00:06:20.34 creatures that are made in His image, humans. 00:06:20.38\00:06:23.95 And it's not a sin for people to use resources that 00:06:23.98\00:06:27.92 God has made, but clearly God said that man 00:06:27.95\00:06:30.69 was to dress and to keep the garden. 00:06:30.72\00:06:33.76 That actually has the idea of cultivate. 00:06:33.79\00:06:36.26 That means you increase organization and design to 00:06:36.29\00:06:39.76 something that normally was, you know, just going wild and--so 00:06:39.79\00:06:43.60 man, he needs to be a good steward of the environment, but 00:06:43.63\00:06:47.10 it's not a sin to use resources in the environment and a 00:06:47.14\00:06:50.11 Christian should have a good balanced view on that. 00:06:50.14\00:06:52.27 And I'd agree, Gary. 00:06:52.31\00:06:53.61 I think sometimes we have two extremes in the church. 00:06:53.64\00:06:55.84 One extreme is saying that, "Well, the earth is for us to 00:06:55.88\00:06:57.91 use and there's no responsibility." 00:06:57.95\00:07:00.18 Then the other extreme is saying that we're supposed to, you 00:07:00.22\00:07:02.45 know, treat whales like they're worth as much 00:07:02.48\00:07:04.05 as humans and trees like they're worth as much 00:07:04.09\00:07:06.55 as people and--which they're not, you know. 00:07:06.59\00:07:10.56 So we need to understand the value. 00:07:10.59\00:07:12.96 And God gave dominion of the world to Adam and Eve, our first 00:07:12.99\00:07:17.33 parents, but we should be good stewards of that environment. 00:07:17.37\00:07:20.67 Jean: You know, Pastor Doug, it's interesting when you see a 00:07:20.70\00:07:23.00 group of Christians--we've traveled before. 00:07:23.04\00:07:24.94 We've been to different countries where there's a lot of 00:07:24.97\00:07:28.11 garbage around and things aren't being well kept and maintained. 00:07:28.14\00:07:31.05 But when you find a group of Christians in their homes, in 00:07:31.08\00:07:33.68 their dwellings, things are typically neater 00:07:33.72\00:07:35.82 and cleaner than just general society. 00:07:35.85\00:07:39.32 So being a Christian, there is a degree of stewardship. 00:07:39.35\00:07:42.96 You want to take care of the things, your 00:07:42.99\00:07:44.96 personal belongings, your home, but even the 00:07:44.99\00:07:47.40 environment that God has given you. 00:07:47.46\00:07:49.33 So there's a good principle there. 00:07:49.36\00:07:52.07 The next caller that we have is Junith listening in Nevada. 00:07:52.10\00:07:54.80 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:07:54.84\00:07:56.81 Junith: Yes, I have a question. 00:07:56.84\00:07:59.64 There are two Adams in the Bible, and the first Adam has a 00:07:59.67\00:08:03.71 very crystal clear of having Eve number one. 00:08:03.75\00:08:07.95 What about Eve number two? 00:08:07.98\00:08:10.45 Who is the Eve number two of Adam number two? 00:08:10.49\00:08:14.19 Is it the bride? Is it the church? 00:08:14.22\00:08:16.62 It does not really clear me up as to what the Bible said. 00:08:16.66\00:08:21.36 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:08:21.40\00:08:22.70 And if you read in Romans chapter 5, Paul goes into a 00:08:22.73\00:08:25.70 discourse where he talks about, you know, we all struggle with 00:08:25.73\00:08:28.57 sin because of the mistake of the first Adam. 00:08:28.60\00:08:31.91 Adam was a son of God made in God's image and--but because of 00:08:31.94\00:08:36.41 Jesus who is a type--I guess the first Adam is a type of Christ. 00:08:36.44\00:08:40.65 He is the second Adam. 00:08:40.68\00:08:41.98 Because of his victory, we can have victory. 00:08:42.02\00:08:44.09 We are reborn. 00:08:44.12\00:08:45.42 And so you're saying, well, what would the type for Eve be? 00:08:45.45\00:08:49.99 Well, it's interesting that when Adam went to sleep on the sixth 00:08:50.03\00:08:53.73 day, God opened his side and out came a wife, you might say. 00:08:53.76\00:08:58.93 You know, He took a rib and He made a wife for Adam. 00:08:58.97\00:09:01.77 Jesus on the sixth day of the week he died on the cross. 00:09:01.80\00:09:05.04 He went to sleep and God opened his side--or the Roman spear 00:09:05.07\00:09:08.91 opened his side and in the blood and water 00:09:08.94\00:09:10.78 the church was born, the bride of Christ. 00:09:10.81\00:09:13.01 You know, often with a human birth there's blood and water. 00:09:13.05\00:09:15.88 And so it's a symbol of there's a new birth to the church. 00:09:15.92\00:09:19.35 So the church is the bride of Christ. 00:09:19.39\00:09:21.02 The Bible does tell us, "Husbands, love your wives even 00:09:21.06\00:09:24.36 as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her." 00:09:24.39\00:09:27.86 So, Junith, I think that would probably 00:09:27.86\00:09:29.46 be the best equal analogy. 00:09:29.50\00:09:32.63 If Jesus is a symbol for the second Adam, 00:09:32.67\00:09:36.40 then the church would be a symbol for Eve. 00:09:36.44\00:09:39.11 Jean: You know, we have a study guide 00:09:39.14\00:09:40.44 called "The Bride of Christ." 00:09:40.48\00:09:41.78 It talks about the church and the great price 00:09:41.81\00:09:44.35 that Christ has paid for his people. 00:09:44.38\00:09:46.58 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:09:46.61\00:09:48.88 The number, again, is 800-835-6747. 00:09:48.92\00:09:52.29 You can also dial #250 on your cell phone and say "Bible 00:09:52.32\00:09:56.99 Answers Live," ask for the free gift. 00:09:57.03\00:09:59.06 It's called "The Bride of Christ." 00:09:59.09\00:10:00.50 And we'll be happy to send it out. 00:10:00.53\00:10:01.93 For those listening outside of North America, we're unable to 00:10:01.96\00:10:05.47 mail you the free gift, but you can go to 00:10:05.50\00:10:07.54 the Amazing Facts website, just AmazingFacts.org, 00:10:07.57\00:10:11.34 and you'll be able to read it there as well. 00:10:11.37\00:10:13.64 We got Anthony in New York. 00:10:13.68\00:10:15.34 Anthony, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:10:15.38\00:10:18.88 Anthony: Yes. Good evening, pastors. 00:10:18.91\00:10:20.35 Doug: Evening. 00:10:20.38\00:10:21.62 Anthony: My question is based on the book of Ruth chapter 3, 00:10:21.65\00:10:26.89 and in verse 9 it says he asks, "Who art thou?" 00:10:26.92\00:10:30.66 And she says, "I am Ruth thine handmaid. 00:10:30.69\00:10:34.56 Spread therefore thy skirt over thine 00:10:34.56\00:10:36.00 handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman." 00:10:36.03\00:10:39.63 So my wife and I were wondering, would this be 00:10:39.67\00:10:42.30 considered an ancient day form of Ruth proposing to Boaz? 00:10:42.34\00:10:48.78 Doug: Yeah, well, basically she's saying, "I am available. 00:10:48.81\00:10:56.15 And the way that you could redeem the property of your 00:10:56.18\00:11:00.86 kinsman, Elimelech, is by marrying me." 00:11:00.89\00:11:05.03 And he was unmarried as far as everything we see in the text at 00:11:05.06\00:11:08.26 that time, and there are some customs that I think we need to 00:11:08.30\00:11:10.93 understand that aren't totally clear. 00:11:10.97\00:11:12.73 You know, traditions and customs about marriage, they change a 00:11:12.77\00:11:15.57 little bit from culture to culture and even over time. 00:11:15.60\00:11:18.61 And so by his spreading his garment over her, there's, I 00:11:18.64\00:11:23.48 think, another allusion to that when God says he married Israel. 00:11:23.51\00:11:26.88 He said, "I spread my garment over you." 00:11:26.92\00:11:28.95 And it basically is like a proposal. 00:11:28.98\00:11:32.05 And so she was saying, you know, "If you would take 00:11:32.09\00:11:36.22 me as your wife, you could redeem me." 00:11:36.26\00:11:38.46 Now, this might seem a little forward to us. 00:11:38.49\00:11:40.66 You can read a verse in Isaiah chapter 4, verse 1 where it says 00:11:40.70\00:11:45.37 in that day seven women will take hold of one 00:11:45.40\00:11:48.40 man saying, "We'll eat our own bread. 00:11:48.44\00:11:51.57 We'll wear our own apparel. 00:11:51.61\00:11:52.91 Only let us be called by your name to take away our reproach." 00:11:52.94\00:11:55.68 It was often true because of wars back then that sometimes 00:11:55.71\00:11:58.31 there were several women for every man. 00:11:58.35\00:12:00.78 That's why God often winked at a man having more than one wife 00:12:00.82\00:12:03.82 'cause some of these women had no protection 00:12:03.85\00:12:05.55 or provision unless they had a husband. 00:12:05.59\00:12:08.92 And so it wasn't that uncommon. 00:12:08.96\00:12:10.96 It says those women took hold of one man saying, "Marry us. 00:12:10.99\00:12:13.70 We'll even provide for ourselves. 00:12:13.73\00:12:15.06 Just marry us. We need a name." 00:12:15.10\00:12:17.07 And--so Ruth was saying, you know, "My husband died." 00:12:17.10\00:12:21.97 Her sister-in-law's husband died. 00:12:22.00\00:12:23.94 Elimelech her father-in-law had died. 00:12:23.97\00:12:25.81 And the only way for them to get their property back was through 00:12:25.84\00:12:28.28 marriage, and Boaz was the near kinsman who had that right. 00:12:28.31\00:12:32.01 So that was the ritual for doing that, and 00:12:32.05\00:12:34.55 he actually said, "Wait until morning. 00:12:34.58\00:12:36.18 There's someone else who's first in line. 00:12:36.22\00:12:38.29 If they turn down that right, then I'll marry you." 00:12:38.32\00:12:41.19 Jean: All right, next caller that we 00:12:41.22\00:12:42.52 have is Bill listening in Canada. 00:12:42.56\00:12:44.19 Bill, you're on the air. 00:12:44.23\00:12:46.29 Bill: Yes. Good evening, pastors. 00:12:46.33\00:12:47.83 Thank you for taking my call. 00:12:47.86\00:12:50.53 My question this evening is as a Sabbath-keeping, 00:12:50.57\00:12:55.24 commandment-keeping disciple of Jesus I'm really curious and I 00:12:55.27\00:12:59.44 have a great number of other brethren of mine 00:12:59.47\00:13:01.61 that are curious as to this as well. 00:13:01.64\00:13:04.58 And that question is, why are so many churches today not 00:13:04.61\00:13:08.48 preaching the third angel's message? 00:13:08.52\00:13:11.52 Doug: Yeah, well, I would think that the 00:13:11.55\00:13:13.42 devil would be threatened by people 00:13:13.46\00:13:14.76 preaching the truth, and that would be the first reason. 00:13:14.79\00:13:18.99 And when--our listeners are wondering, "What do 00:13:19.03\00:13:21.20 you mean by the third angel's message?" 00:13:21.23\00:13:23.47 Just before Jesus comes--you read in Revelation 14 this 00:13:23.50\00:13:26.60 vision of Christ coming in the clouds, one like the Son of man 00:13:26.63\00:13:30.01 coming with the clouds of heaven. 00:13:30.04\00:13:32.01 There are three prominent messages that go to the world 00:13:32.04\00:13:35.11 preparing the world for the return of Christ. 00:13:35.14\00:13:37.85 And Bill is asking, why are churches 00:13:37.88\00:13:39.95 neglecting to preach those messages? 00:13:39.98\00:13:42.45 Matter of fact, Amazing Facts just completed a magazine. 00:13:42.48\00:13:45.45 It's actually moving pretty quickly. 00:13:45.49\00:13:47.59 A magazine talking about the three angels messages, and I 00:13:47.62\00:13:52.53 think we can give those away if someone calls and asks for one. 00:13:52.56\00:13:55.36 Jean: We also have a study guide that talks about that. 00:13:55.40\00:13:57.43 So if you'd like to learn more about God's last-warning 00:13:57.47\00:14:00.60 message, it's a very important subject, you can call and ask. 00:14:00.64\00:14:03.74 It's "Angel Messages from Space." 00:14:03.77\00:14:06.21 That's what the study guide is called, 00:14:06.24\00:14:07.84 and the number is 800-835-6747. 00:14:07.88\00:14:11.78 And, again, just ask for "Angel Messages from Space." 00:14:11.81\00:14:14.75 As Pastor Doug mentioned, we also have a magazine. 00:14:14.78\00:14:17.19 So you can ask about that as well. 00:14:17.22\00:14:18.92 And if you have your cell phone, just dial #250 and say "'Bible 00:14:18.95\00:14:23.19 Answers Live,' I'd like the three angels brochure," or 00:14:23.22\00:14:27.40 "Angel Messages from Space" is the name. 00:14:27.46\00:14:30.00 Thank you for your call. 00:14:30.03\00:14:31.33 We're going to try Brittany again in California 00:14:31.37\00:14:32.80 and see if she's by her phone. 00:14:32.83\00:14:35.00 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:14:35.04\00:14:38.51 Brittany: Hey. 00:14:38.54\00:14:40.38 Doug: All right. Hey, we reached you. 00:14:40.41\00:14:43.38 And your question tonight? 00:14:43.41\00:14:45.98 Brittany: Yeah, my question is, is necromancy 00:14:46.01\00:14:48.58 considered one of the unpardonable sins? 00:14:48.62\00:14:52.39 Like how is a person supposed to deal with it? 00:14:52.42\00:14:57.73 Doug: Yeah. All right. 00:14:57.76\00:14:59.29 For our friends listening, necromancy is another term for 00:14:59.33\00:15:02.43 being a medium trying to consult with the dead, and this is 00:15:02.46\00:15:06.57 strictly forbidden in the Word of God in a number of passages. 00:15:06.60\00:15:11.54 I think Revelation mentions it, Paul 00:15:11.57\00:15:13.48 mentions it, Moses mentions it. 00:15:13.51\00:15:15.41 And King Saul in the book of Samuel, King Saul tried to 00:15:15.44\00:15:18.41 consult the dead, and he committed suicide the next day. 00:15:18.45\00:15:23.02 It is not called the unpardonable sin 'cause I think 00:15:23.05\00:15:26.39 even King Manasseh engaged in all kinds of witchcraft and 00:15:26.42\00:15:30.99 occult behavior, and he was forgiven and converted. 00:15:31.03\00:15:35.16 And the Bible doesn't say there are different 00:15:35.20\00:15:37.10 kinds of unpardonable sins, I think it 00:15:37.13\00:15:39.53 specifies there is one unpardonable sin. 00:15:39.57\00:15:42.74 Jesus said, "All manner of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven 00:15:42.77\00:15:46.78 for the children of men, but there is a sin that will not be 00:15:46.81\00:15:49.88 forgiven and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit." 00:15:49.91\00:15:53.35 Now, if a person wants to know what is that, we have 00:15:53.38\00:15:56.32 a book that we'll send you a free copy. 00:15:56.35\00:15:58.29 "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:15:58.32\00:16:01.12 And it explains that. 00:16:01.16\00:16:02.46 A lot of people call us, Pastor Ross. 00:16:02.49\00:16:03.89 They say, "I'm worried. 00:16:03.93\00:16:05.96 I've made the same mistake so many times. 00:16:05.99\00:16:07.50 Have I grieved away the Holy Spirit? 00:16:07.56\00:16:09.36 Have I committed the unpardonable sin?" 00:16:09.40\00:16:11.07 And, of course, we're not God. 00:16:11.10\00:16:12.50 We can't look into anyone's life or heart, but most of the time 00:16:12.53\00:16:16.71 people concerned about committing the unpardonable sin 00:16:16.74\00:16:20.61 are not--have not because they're 00:16:20.64\00:16:22.21 convicted and they're wanting forgiveness. 00:16:22.24\00:16:23.91 Jean: Amen. 00:16:23.95\00:16:25.25 You know, the verse you're referring to, Pastor Doug, 00:16:25.28\00:16:26.58 Matthew chapter 12, verse 31 talks about every sin being 00:16:26.61\00:16:30.82 forgiven except the unpardonable sin. 00:16:30.85\00:16:32.89 So if you'd like to learn more about that, the number, again, 00:16:32.92\00:16:35.32 is 800-835-6747, and you can ask for the book. 00:16:35.36\00:16:39.73 It's called "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:16:39.76\00:16:41.93 We'll be happy to send it to you. 00:16:41.96\00:16:43.26 Again, dial #250 on your cell phone and say "Bible Answers 00:16:43.30\00:16:48.04 Live," ask for "The Unpardonable Sin." 00:16:48.07\00:16:50.47 Doug: We also have that book that talks about does God 00:16:50.51\00:16:54.04 inspire psychics and astrologists if they want to 00:16:54.08\00:16:56.61 know what necromancy is and those things. 00:16:56.64\00:16:58.98 Jean: That's right. That's also a good one. 00:16:59.01\00:17:00.38 You can ask for that as well. 00:17:00.42\00:17:01.72 "Does God Inspire Astrologists and Psychics?" 00:17:01.75\00:17:04.75 That's the name of that study guide. 00:17:04.79\00:17:06.79 Well, we have somebody listening from Australia. 00:17:06.82\00:17:08.49 We got Joan. Joan, welcome to the program. 00:17:08.52\00:17:11.36 Joan: Yeah, thank you. I got a question. 00:17:11.39\00:17:13.83 When God said to the snake, Satan, "On your belly you shall 00:17:13.86\00:17:18.87 crawl," was He talking to the snake or has He taken Satan's 00:17:18.90\00:17:23.20 form of transportation away on the earth? 00:17:23.24\00:17:26.21 Doug: That's an interesting question. 00:17:26.24\00:17:27.81 Well, I think it--first of all, it was talking about the serpent 00:17:27.84\00:17:31.38 because we know that serpents do typically crawl. 00:17:31.41\00:17:35.25 There are a couple of serpents that swim, and 00:17:35.28\00:17:37.55 there are some that actually can glide 00:17:37.59\00:17:39.05 briefly through the air, which is fascinating. 00:17:39.09\00:17:42.19 But it's believed that before the 00:17:42.22\00:17:45.89 serpent was cursed that it could fly. 00:17:45.93\00:17:49.56 Now, we know from the fossil record there 00:17:49.60\00:17:51.07 are certain--there were winged reptiles. 00:17:51.10\00:17:53.47 So it shouldn't surprise us that the serpent could 00:17:53.50\00:17:55.10 also fly at one point, and it would have 00:17:55.14\00:17:57.17 been very hypnotic in doing that. 00:17:57.21\00:17:59.27 But it is an interesting proposition that in some 00:17:59.31\00:18:03.24 respects Satan was restricted to this earth. 00:18:03.28\00:18:06.88 He was grounded, you might say, to some extent after sin. 00:18:06.92\00:18:11.35 And the idea of, "You will go on your belly," 00:18:11.39\00:18:13.46 you can't get any lower than your belly. 00:18:13.49\00:18:15.32 And what the devil was doing in rebellion against God and 00:18:15.36\00:18:18.46 bringing death to this planet was about as low as you can get. 00:18:18.49\00:18:22.06 Jean: And, of course, we're not talking literally here. 00:18:22.10\00:18:24.33 I mean, the Bible tells us the devil 00:18:24.37\00:18:25.67 can appear as an angel of light, so, you know-- 00:18:25.70\00:18:27.60 Doug: Right. He didn't turn into a serpent. 00:18:27.64\00:18:28.94 Jean: Exactly. 00:18:28.97\00:18:30.27 He's not going around on his tummy, but I think there's a 00:18:30.31\00:18:33.34 symbolic application there that we can clearly see. 00:18:33.38\00:18:36.04 Good question. 00:18:36.08\00:18:37.38 We've got David listening in California. 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.08 David, you're on "Bible Answers Live." 00:18:39.11\00:18:43.28 David: Hi, pastors. 00:18:43.32\00:18:44.72 On November 6th through the 18th, the pope and world church 00:18:44.75\00:18:48.46 leaders gathered to unite--to rewrite God's 00:18:48.49\00:18:51.09 Ten Commandments on November 13th. 00:18:51.13\00:18:54.73 I was wondering would this be abomination of desolation spoken 00:18:54.73\00:18:58.77 by Jesus--or Daniel in Matthew 24:15? 00:18:58.80\00:19:05.97 Doug: Yeah, you know, I saw that report and I was very intrigued 00:19:06.01\00:19:09.61 by it, and I looked into it, and I found out that it wasn't 00:19:09.64\00:19:13.88 really the pope that was trying to rewrite the commandments. 00:19:13.92\00:19:16.82 And I think you're talking about when they were wanting to 00:19:16.85\00:19:19.45 rewrite the commandments from an environmental point of view. 00:19:19.49\00:19:23.26 There was a group of some religious leaders, and one of 00:19:23.29\00:19:28.56 them was from the Vatican, and they were coming up 00:19:28.60\00:19:31.40 with a proposition of ten commandments 00:19:31.43\00:19:34.84 about preserving the environment. 00:19:34.87\00:19:37.31 And so they wrote that up. 00:19:37.34\00:19:38.64 It was not adopted by the Catholic Church 00:19:38.67\00:19:40.51 or any group that I know of. 00:19:40.54\00:19:42.78 It was a kind of proposal, and the 00:19:42.81\00:19:44.98 papers had fun spinning it around. 00:19:45.01\00:19:46.92 But I looked right into that, just thought, "Wow," the way it 00:19:46.95\00:19:49.68 was put forward is like they're redoing the Ten Commandments, 00:19:49.72\00:19:52.99 but they were just saying, "We want to have ten commandments on 00:19:53.02\00:19:55.22 the environment," and small group, nothing official was 00:19:55.26\00:19:58.26 ever voted, but it is fascinating. 00:19:58.29\00:20:00.70 I wouldn't be surprised. 00:20:00.73\00:20:02.10 Matter of fact, the beast power has already 00:20:02.13\00:20:03.50 tried to change God's time in law. 00:20:03.53\00:20:05.97 Jean: He already has. Yeah, absolutely. 00:20:06.00\00:20:08.37 All right, thank you for your call. 00:20:08.40\00:20:09.70 We've got John listening in Kansas. 00:20:09.74\00:20:11.34 John, welcome to the program. 00:20:11.37\00:20:14.21 John: Good evening, pastors. 00:20:14.24\00:20:15.54 I find it easier to understand the stories of 00:20:15.58\00:20:18.15 the Bible when I read it chronologically. 00:20:18.18\00:20:21.38 And from about the time of Abraham until the time of Esther 00:20:21.42\00:20:25.35 there's some type of activity going on during each one of 00:20:25.39\00:20:28.49 those centuries, but then from about the 5th century BC there's 00:20:28.52\00:20:33.60 a big time lapse between there until we get to the birth of 00:20:33.63\00:20:37.20 John the Baptist and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:20:37.23\00:20:40.54 Can you tell me why there is such a void there? 00:20:40.57\00:20:43.37 Was there nothing inspired going on? 00:20:43.41\00:20:45.94 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:20:45.97\00:20:47.64 Well, there was a number of things happening historically. 00:20:47.68\00:20:50.45 This is a time of Greek dominion 00:20:50.48\00:20:53.18 and some terrible Greek oppression. 00:20:53.21\00:20:56.15 There are some historical books. 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.62 I don't believe they're part of the Bible but some Bibles 00:20:58.65\00:21:00.79 include them, about the Maccabees. 00:21:00.82\00:21:03.22 And you can read about Jonathan Maccabee and his sons that 00:21:03.26\00:21:07.00 fought against Antiochus Epiphanies and the Greeks. 00:21:07.03\00:21:10.17 And so there were things happening, but it is interesting 00:21:10.20\00:21:13.00 that there was no prophet that was speaking with inspiration 00:21:13.03\00:21:17.01 between the time of Malachi and, you know, Mark's Gospel. 00:21:17.04\00:21:21.51 Mark was probably written before Matthew. 00:21:21.54\00:21:23.68 So between that period of time it seemed like the inspiration 00:21:23.71\00:21:27.95 was silent, but that shouldn't shock you 00:21:27.98\00:21:30.82 'cause there were other periods where there were 00:21:30.85\00:21:33.62 hundreds of years and no prophet. 00:21:33.66\00:21:36.32 Though, you know, some history is given, there's almost a 00:21:36.36\00:21:39.83 continual history that's given from Genesis, 00:21:39.86\00:21:43.97 you know, through Abraham all the way to Malachi. 00:21:44.00\00:21:48.57 Then they're carried to Babylon. 00:21:48.60\00:21:50.31 They get to come back. 00:21:50.34\00:21:51.81 And during the time of the Greek supremacy, 00:21:51.84\00:21:56.58 there was a kind of lukewarm period. 00:21:56.61\00:21:58.81 Jean: Yeah, it is interesting, Pastor Doug, you have times in 00:21:58.85\00:22:01.02 Bible history in the Old Testament where there's a flurry 00:22:01.05\00:22:03.39 of prophetic activity, you might say. 00:22:03.42\00:22:05.85 There's not just one prophet, there's 00:22:05.89\00:22:07.49 multiple prophets at the same time. 00:22:07.52\00:22:09.59 And, of course, we see that in the story 00:22:09.62\00:22:10.93 of the 70 years of Babylonian captivity. 00:22:10.96\00:22:12.83 You have Jeremiah and then, of course, 00:22:12.86\00:22:14.13 when they come back Ezra, Nehemiah. 00:22:14.20\00:22:15.93 Daniel, of course, he wrote--so just 00:22:15.96\00:22:17.93 some amazing and important prophecy. 00:22:17.97\00:22:19.90 Ezekiel around that same time. 00:22:19.93\00:22:21.74 But then as you say--as the nation began to start 00:22:21.77\00:22:26.81 implementing their traditions and place their traditions above 00:22:26.84\00:22:29.98 the commandments of God, there almost seems to 00:22:30.01\00:22:32.11 be a lacking of that prophetic gift. 00:22:32.15\00:22:36.95 And of course we also see that even in the Christian era when 00:22:36.99\00:22:40.39 the church set aside God's commandments, there was 00:22:40.42\00:22:43.06 a void of the Spirit in the prophetic sense. 00:22:43.09\00:22:45.79 So some parallels there. 00:22:45.83\00:22:47.50 Doug: You know, and one more thing I'll just mention on that, 00:22:47.50\00:22:49.33 John, is that you look at the story of Gideon, this always 00:22:49.36\00:22:52.57 amazes me, Gideon asks the angels, "Whatever happened to 00:22:52.60\00:22:55.70 all the miracles we heard about?" 00:22:55.74\00:22:57.11 There was a spell of what seemed like silence to Gideon. 00:22:57.14\00:23:00.68 For a couple of generations he thought, "Where's-- 00:23:00.71\00:23:02.51 you know, where's the Lord in all this?" 00:23:02.54\00:23:04.95 And, of course, God was getting ready to do great things again. 00:23:04.98\00:23:07.52 So there were quiet spells even before Malachi. 00:23:07.55\00:23:11.02 Thanks, John. Good question. 00:23:11.05\00:23:12.35 Jean: All right. 00:23:12.39\00:23:13.69 Next caller that we have is Shawn listening in Illinois. 00:23:13.72\00:23:15.02 Shawn, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:23:15.06\00:23:17.96 Shawn: Good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:23:17.99\00:23:20.06 Thank you for taking my call. 00:23:20.10\00:23:22.16 I'm calling with a question concerning 00:23:22.20\00:23:25.23 the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:23:25.27\00:23:27.27 I was speaking with a friend and I was asking them 00:23:27.30\00:23:31.81 how come they didn't keep the seventh-day Sabbath, 00:23:31.84\00:23:34.54 and they said in order to keep the Sabbath fully 00:23:34.58\00:23:38.91 you had to observe all the feast days. 00:23:38.95\00:23:41.75 And my question is, is that correct? 00:23:41.78\00:23:44.89 Doug: No, it's not correct. 00:23:44.92\00:23:46.76 You can't make a parallel between the Sabbath of the Ten 00:23:46.79\00:23:50.73 Commandments and the Jewish feast. 00:23:50.76\00:23:52.99 Let me tell you why very quickly. 00:23:53.03\00:23:55.26 They're different. They're given differently. 00:23:55.30\00:23:57.80 The Sabbath of the Ten Commandments 00:23:57.83\00:23:59.53 appears before there's even sin. 00:23:59.57\00:24:01.50 You have it in Genesis chapter 2. 00:24:01.54\00:24:03.77 On the seventh day, God rests. 00:24:03.81\00:24:06.01 Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man, 00:24:06.04\00:24:08.34 not for Jews, but for mankind. 00:24:08.38\00:24:09.91 The word he uses is anthropos. 00:24:09.94\00:24:11.98 That's where you get anthropology. 00:24:12.01\00:24:14.05 Sabbath was made for humanity back before there was a Jew. 00:24:14.08\00:24:17.69 It's part of the Ten Commandments written on stone. 00:24:17.72\00:24:20.26 The ceremonial Sabbaths and laws and feasts are written on paper. 00:24:20.29\00:24:24.29 They don't appear until after the exodus, and they go till the 00:24:24.33\00:24:27.40 time of Christ when Jesus dies and the veil 00:24:27.46\00:24:29.66 is ripped and they meet their fulfillment. 00:24:29.70\00:24:32.30 But the Sabbath is a weekly time of gathering together and 00:24:32.33\00:24:36.00 worshiping God and studying His Word that goes all the way back 00:24:36.04\00:24:39.71 to creation, and it says in Isaiah it will be kept even in 00:24:39.74\00:24:43.21 heaven, that from one Sabbath to another all flesh will come 00:24:43.24\00:24:47.22 together to worship before the Lord. 00:24:47.25\00:24:49.25 So they are two totally different categories, and one is 00:24:49.28\00:24:55.36 one of the Ten Commandments spoken by God, written in stone. 00:24:55.39\00:24:58.66 The others were part of the ceremonial 00:24:58.69\00:25:00.76 law that was of a passing nature. 00:25:00.80\00:25:03.33 Jean: And the Bible refers to those ceremonial laws as a 00:25:03.37\00:25:05.40 shadow, but the substance is Christ. 00:25:05.43\00:25:08.14 For example, the sacrificing of lambs, it was a type. 00:25:08.17\00:25:10.74 We don't sacrifice lambs anymore because 00:25:10.77\00:25:12.31 the Lamb of God was slain, Jesus gave his life-- 00:25:12.34\00:25:14.31 Doug: Yeah, but do we still need physical rest, and 00:25:14.34\00:25:17.08 do we still need a time of worship? 00:25:17.11\00:25:18.65 Yeah, the purpose of the Sabbath has not changed at all. 00:25:18.68\00:25:21.68 So more so now than ever, I suppose. 00:25:21.72\00:25:24.52 Jean: Yeah. 00:25:24.55\00:25:25.79 You know, we have a study guide that talks about that, and we'll 00:25:25.82\00:25:27.59 be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:25:27.62\00:25:29.19 It's called "The Lost Day of History," 00:25:29.22\00:25:31.16 and we'll be happy to send that out. 00:25:31.19\00:25:32.49 The number is 800-835-6747. Ask for the study guide. 00:25:32.53\00:25:36.97 It's called "The Lost Day in History." 00:25:37.00\00:25:38.90 You can also dial #250 on your cell phone, say "Bible Answers 00:25:38.93\00:25:42.47 Live," and then ask for the study guide called "The Lost Day 00:25:42.50\00:25:45.87 of History" and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:25:45.91\00:25:48.51 Let's see, I think we have time for one more. 00:25:48.54\00:25:50.18 We got Hector listening in Florida. 00:25:50.21\00:25:51.65 Hector, welcome to the program. 00:25:51.68\00:25:54.68 Hector: Thank you. Good evening, pastors. 00:25:54.72\00:25:56.85 Doug: Evening. 00:25:56.89\00:25:59.92 Hector: Okay, my question will be on second resurrection of-- 00:25:59.95\00:26:05.36 second coming of Christ. 00:26:05.39\00:26:07.73 We know the people--the wicked people that will be alive will 00:26:07.76\00:26:14.90 get slain by the brightness of Christ. 00:26:14.94\00:26:18.14 Now, what about the second resurrection now? 00:26:18.17\00:26:23.08 Are those people going to take part 00:26:23.11\00:26:24.91 of the second resurrection as well? 00:26:24.95\00:26:27.35 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:26:27.38\00:26:28.98 Yeah, you can--you read in the Bible that the wicked are 00:26:29.02\00:26:31.82 destroyed by the brightness of his coming and a person might 00:26:31.85\00:26:35.39 think, "Well, then are they going to get 00:26:35.42\00:26:36.86 raised and judged and destroyed again?" 00:26:36.89\00:26:39.06 Yes, unfortunately. 00:26:39.09\00:26:40.80 You could say the same thing about 00:26:40.83\00:26:42.10 those who are killed by the flood. 00:26:42.13\00:26:44.60 Do they get raised and punished again? Good evening, pastors. 00:30:32.99\00:30:34.46 Doug: Evening. 00:30:34.50\00:30:36.13 Heather: My question this evening is we recently had a 00:30:36.16\00:30:40.87 revival, "10 Days of Prayer," and the theme 00:30:40.90\00:30:43.97 of that revival was rebuilding the altars. 00:30:44.01\00:30:48.04 And we were encouraged to build physical altars in the home 00:30:48.08\00:30:51.98 where we could have daily worship, and I'm looking for 00:30:52.01\00:30:55.58 some biblical validation for that. 00:30:55.62\00:30:59.55 Doug: Well, you know, biblical altars, 00:30:59.59\00:31:01.82 they often offered a burnt offering. 00:31:01.86\00:31:03.79 So I hope you're not going to do that in your living room. 00:31:03.83\00:31:06.53 The Bible does say that as Abraham went from place to place 00:31:06.56\00:31:10.17 and he would pitch his tent with all of his household that he 00:31:10.20\00:31:14.04 would build an altar and that would be for the 00:31:14.07\00:31:15.44 worship of his family, and he actually had 00:31:15.47\00:31:17.81 hundreds of people in his household. 00:31:17.84\00:31:20.01 The Bible tells us he had 300 00:31:20.04\00:31:21.78 servants that were trained in war. 00:31:21.81\00:31:24.81 So it was like a moving city. 00:31:24.85\00:31:26.78 And so they did have a place of worship 00:31:26.82\00:31:28.25 outdoors where they would offer lambs. 00:31:28.28\00:31:30.42 There's nothing wrong with having a place in your home 00:31:30.45\00:31:33.79 that--where you would gather and pray. 00:31:33.82\00:31:36.26 Now, that--the word altar now is sort of a symbolic term. 00:31:36.29\00:31:39.43 You know, we don't really need to have a pile of stones. 00:31:39.46\00:31:42.33 I think the Hebrew altar had 12 stones and they were rough cut, 00:31:42.36\00:31:48.34 so, you know, I--nothing wrong with saying, "We're going to 00:31:48.37\00:31:50.84 gather--" it's sort of a metaphor when you say, "We're 00:31:50.87\00:31:53.17 going to gather around the family altar." 00:31:53.21\00:31:54.51 It just really means you're going to get together in the 00:31:54.54\00:31:56.24 living room, dining table, have worship with 00:31:56.28\00:31:58.41 the children, when you kneel and pray. 00:31:58.45\00:32:00.92 You don't need a physical structure 00:32:00.95\00:32:02.98 to kneel around necessarily. 00:32:03.02\00:32:05.69 That would more be symbolic. 00:32:05.72\00:32:07.49 Jean: That's right. 00:32:07.52\00:32:08.82 I think--yes, the symbolic application of that is you need 00:32:08.86\00:32:10.79 a place where you gather to pray and gather to study the Word. 00:32:10.83\00:32:14.20 That could be your living room. 00:32:14.20\00:32:15.50 It could be your dining room, wherever it might be. 00:32:15.53\00:32:17.20 Doug: Yeah. 00:32:17.23\00:32:18.53 So in principle it's--every family should have an altar in 00:32:18.57\00:32:23.37 that they have a corporate worship or a place of prayer. 00:32:23.41\00:32:26.07 Jesus said you can go into your closet and pray. 00:32:26.11\00:32:29.41 Don't need the burnt offerings anymore. 00:32:29.44\00:32:32.35 Jean: Joshua is listening from Kentucky. 00:32:32.38\00:32:34.05 Joshua, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:32:34.08\00:32:38.85 Joshua, are you there? 00:32:38.89\00:32:41.52 Doug: You might have your mute on. 00:32:41.56\00:32:43.36 Joshua, one more time. Kentucky. 00:32:43.39\00:32:46.86 Jean: Okay, we're going to come back. 00:32:46.90\00:32:48.16 We'll go to Susie in California. 00:32:48.20\00:32:49.66 Susie, welcome to the program. 00:32:49.70\00:32:52.80 Susie: Hi, pastors. 00:32:52.83\00:32:55.17 Thank you for taking my call. 00:32:55.20\00:32:56.67 So sorry I have a scratchy voice. 00:32:56.71\00:33:00.04 I have a question. 00:33:00.08\00:33:02.51 Are there prophets walking with us today, and if so, 00:33:02.54\00:33:07.08 how do we know if they are from God? 00:33:07.12\00:33:11.55 Doug: Okay, good question. 00:33:11.59\00:33:13.15 You know, I just saw this week, Pastor Ross, a pastor, he had a 00:33:13.19\00:33:18.33 TV program and on the--what we call the lower third in 00:33:18.36\00:33:22.20 television--that's where you have the title, 00:33:22.23\00:33:24.23 and it said prophet so and so, and I 00:33:24.27\00:33:27.07 thought, "He's advertising he's a prophet." 00:33:27.10\00:33:31.04 Sometimes I know ministers use the word prophet 00:33:31.07\00:33:33.41 in the form of 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 where it 00:33:33.44\00:33:37.45 talks about those who prophesy the Word of God. 00:33:37.48\00:33:40.42 But in the biblical sense of a called prophet 00:33:40.45\00:33:43.35 that is really speaking more directly for God, 00:33:43.39\00:33:46.62 there may be some in the world today. 00:33:46.65\00:33:48.72 I can't personally think of any that--but Jesus does say that, 00:33:48.76\00:33:54.03 you know, we need to guard against false prophets. 00:33:54.10\00:33:55.93 Presumably there'll be true prophets. 00:33:55.96\00:33:58.30 The book of Joel says, "I'll pour out my 00:33:58.33\00:34:00.20 spirit in the last days in all flesh. 00:34:00.24\00:34:02.44 Your sons and daughters will dream dreams and prophesy." 00:34:02.47\00:34:05.94 So there will be gifts of prophecy in the last days. 00:34:05.97\00:34:10.41 How do you know a true from a false prophet? 00:34:10.45\00:34:13.05 We have a study guide that goes through the criteria of how we 00:34:13.08\00:34:16.65 can identify true prophets, and I believe that's the same study 00:34:16.69\00:34:19.62 guide that talks about astrologists and psychics. 00:34:19.65\00:34:22.42 Jean: That's right, all you have to do is call and ask. 00:34:22.46\00:34:24.16 It's called "Does God Inspire Astrologists and Psychics?" 00:34:24.19\00:34:27.30 It talks about the true gift of prophecy. 00:34:27.36\00:34:29.56 What does the Bible say? 00:34:29.60\00:34:30.97 The number to call is 800-835-6747, or you can 00:34:31.00\00:34:34.84 dial #250 on your phone, ask for "Does God 00:34:34.87\00:34:38.37 Inspire Astrologists and Psychics?" 00:34:38.41\00:34:40.51 And we'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:34:40.54\00:34:42.71 Of course, Pastor Doug, one of the identifying marks of a true 00:34:42.74\00:34:45.35 prophet, they need to prophesy in harmony with the Word of God. 00:34:45.38\00:34:48.55 But God often communicates through visions and dreams. 00:34:48.58\00:34:51.89 So one's got to be real careful. 00:34:51.92\00:34:54.06 If somebody's walking around claiming to 00:34:54.09\00:34:55.49 have visions, it's got to match the Bible. 00:34:55.52\00:34:57.86 Doug: Yeah, that's right. Well, thank you. 00:34:57.89\00:35:00.40 Jean: Next caller that we have is 00:35:00.43\00:35:01.96 Robert listening in Washington, Robert, welcome to the program. 00:35:02.00\00:35:04.90 Robert: Good evening. Doug: Evening. 00:35:04.93\00:35:07.57 Robert: I talked to a denomination that likes to think 00:35:07.60\00:35:12.24 that we were preborn and--I mean, we 00:35:12.27\00:35:15.54 were spirits before and we'll be spirits after. 00:35:15.58\00:35:19.05 We don't really die kind of thing. 00:35:19.08\00:35:21.82 And so this one denomination, they were telling me Job 32:8. 00:35:21.85\00:35:29.39 There's a spirit in man. 00:35:29.42\00:35:31.96 And so they want me to believe that there's somebody else 00:35:31.99\00:35:36.63 living inside me, and then when I die then the other guy 00:35:36.67\00:35:39.93 takes over and goes to heaven kind of thing. 00:35:39.97\00:35:43.64 Doug: Yeah, so are you wondering what does that word mean? 00:35:43.67\00:35:48.58 Robert: Yeah, so how can I explain to the people that I try 00:35:48.61\00:35:53.98 to help that the spirit isn't going to be taking off after I 00:35:54.02\00:36:01.72 die kind of thing and be hanging out in heaven and enjoying a 00:36:01.76\00:36:06.63 sauna or whatever kind of thing, you know? 00:36:06.66\00:36:09.06 Doug: Yeah, I've never thought about going to heaven 00:36:09.10\00:36:11.43 taking a sauna, but that might be nice. 00:36:11.47\00:36:14.30 Anyway, back to the question. 00:36:14.34\00:36:16.20 The word spirit there in the book of Job chapter 32 00:36:16.24\00:36:19.51 and other places in Job is the Hebrew word 00:36:19.54\00:36:21.48 ruach, and it simply means breath. 00:36:21.51\00:36:24.81 It's the same word you find in Genesis where 00:36:24.85\00:36:27.85 it says God breathed into Adam's nostrils the breath 00:36:27.88\00:36:31.55 of life and he became a living soul. 00:36:31.59\00:36:34.79 And Job says later, he says, "All the while the Spirit of God 00:36:34.82\00:36:38.26 is in me and the breath of God is in my nostrils." 00:36:38.29\00:36:42.20 The word spirit there simply means the breath of life. 00:36:42.23\00:36:45.00 It's not another conscious person or a little, 00:36:45.03\00:36:47.60 you know, ghost inside of anybody. 00:36:47.64\00:36:49.77 Jean: And, you know, it's even interesting we have Job here. 00:36:49.80\00:36:52.21 Job 32, it's written in Hebrew poetry, just the structure. 00:36:52.24\00:36:56.34 You can actually notice if you have a 00:36:56.38\00:36:57.68 New King James it's written in that format. 00:36:57.71\00:36:59.75 So it makes a statement and then it will repeat 00:36:59.78\00:37:01.45 the statement, and in verse 8--Job 32, verse 8 00:37:01.48\00:37:04.79 it says, "But there is a spirit in man." 00:37:04.82\00:37:07.36 And then he repeats that and says, "And the breath 00:37:07.39\00:37:10.03 of the Almighty gives him understanding." 00:37:10.06\00:37:12.76 So you connect the spirit and the breath of the Almighty. 00:37:12.79\00:37:17.33 So spirit and breath are used interchangeably in this verse. 00:37:17.37\00:37:21.27 Doug: Yep. 00:37:21.30\00:37:22.84 So, thank you. How are you? 00:38:01.51\00:38:03.28 Doug: Good. Thank you for calling. 00:38:03.31\00:38:06.31 And your question? 00:38:06.35\00:38:10.32 KJ: Could you explain Genesis 6:2 for me, please? 00:38:10.35\00:38:14.19 I don't quite understand what it's saying. 00:38:14.22\00:38:16.96 Doug: Good. I'm glad you asked. 00:38:16.99\00:38:18.49 I like this question. 00:38:18.53\00:38:20.56 And let me read it for our friends that are listening. 00:38:20.60\00:38:23.33 It says, "The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they 00:38:23.37\00:38:27.20 were beautiful and took wives for them of all they chose." 00:38:27.24\00:38:31.67 And then God said, "My Spirit will not always strive 00:38:31.71\00:38:33.88 with man forever, for he is indeed flesh. 00:38:33.91\00:38:36.81 His days will be 120 years. 00:38:36.85\00:38:39.21 And then there were giants on the earth in those days, and 00:38:39.25\00:38:41.65 also afterward, when the sons of God came into the daughters of 00:38:41.68\00:38:44.62 men, and they bore children to them. 00:38:44.65\00:38:47.19 Those were mighty men who were of old, men of renown." 00:38:47.22\00:38:50.59 Some people are wondering, "What does this mean?" 00:38:50.63\00:38:53.26 And I've actually heard pastors that say, "Yep, aliens came down 00:38:53.29\00:38:57.37 to earth and married and had intimate relations with humans, 00:38:57.40\00:39:01.67 and then they had these superhuman giant children." 00:39:01.70\00:39:05.57 And others will say these were fallen angels. 00:39:05.61\00:39:08.14 The sons of God, they were fallen angels, devils that had 00:39:08.18\00:39:11.11 sex with humans and then had these giant children. 00:39:11.15\00:39:15.18 That's not at all what it's saying. 00:39:15.22\00:39:16.85 Let the Bible explain itself. 00:39:16.89\00:39:18.75 After Cain killed Abel, he took his wife, one of his sisters no 00:39:18.79\00:39:22.86 doubt, and he went and separated from Seth and his mother and 00:39:22.89\00:39:27.76 father and the rest of their offspring, and you end 00:39:27.83\00:39:31.63 up with two distinct races of people. 00:39:31.67\00:39:33.97 You've got the children of Adam and 00:39:34.00\00:39:35.44 Eve and Seth that worshiped God. 00:39:35.47\00:39:37.34 They were called the sons of God. 00:39:37.37\00:39:38.94 If you look at the genealogy in Luke, 00:39:38.97\00:39:41.98 it calls Adam the son of God. 00:39:42.01\00:39:44.61 And you read in 1 John chapter 3, verse 1, "Behold, what manner 00:39:44.65\00:39:50.82 of love the Father has bestowed on us that 00:39:50.85\00:39:53.02 we should be called sons of God." 00:39:53.05\00:39:55.86 Believers are called sons of God. 00:39:55.89\00:39:58.69 Jesus said to the enemies, he says, 00:39:58.73\00:40:01.00 "You are of your father the devil." 00:40:01.03\00:40:02.56 You've got two kinds of people in the world: believers, 00:40:02.60\00:40:04.37 sons of God; children of men--or the devil. 00:40:04.40\00:40:07.57 That's the other group. 00:40:07.60\00:40:08.90 When the children of God, the sons of God saw that the 00:40:08.94\00:40:13.24 daughters of Cain, the sons of men, they were the lost, were 00:40:13.27\00:40:17.01 beautiful and the believers began to intermarry with the 00:40:17.05\00:40:20.22 unbelievers, then they drew their hearts 00:40:20.25\00:40:23.08 away and the land was full of wickedness. 00:40:23.12\00:40:25.22 And it's not surprising that they 00:40:25.25\00:40:26.55 had some very powerful children. 00:40:26.59\00:40:28.22 That's just called genetic vitality. 00:40:28.26\00:40:30.26 When you get cross-breeding in a gene pool, you cross a tiger 00:40:30.29\00:40:36.77 and a lion, you get a liger, and it's actually bigger than both. 00:40:36.80\00:40:39.80 This is called genetic vitality. 00:40:39.83\00:40:41.60 So it was humans marrying humans. 00:40:41.64\00:40:43.84 The descendants of Adam and Eve and Seth intermarried with the 00:40:43.87\00:40:47.84 children of Cain that were lost children of men, 00:40:47.88\00:40:50.95 and they lost their distinction and then the land-- 00:40:50.98\00:40:53.68 the world was full of wickedness. 00:40:53.72\00:40:55.65 Now, I've got a book that answers this question in great 00:40:55.68\00:40:58.22 detail, KJ, and it's called "Aliens, Angels, or Adopted." 00:40:58.25\00:41:04.63 And we'll send you. 00:41:04.66\00:41:05.96 It says, "Who Are the Sons of God?" 00:41:05.99\00:41:07.30 We'll send you a free copy if you ask for it. 00:41:07.30\00:41:08.76 Jean: The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:41:08.80\00:41:12.07 And, again, just ask for that book. 00:41:12.10\00:41:13.40 It's called "Who Are the Sons of God?" 00:41:13.44\00:41:15.10 It's actually got a long title. 00:41:15.14\00:41:16.44 "Aliens, Angels, and--or Adopted." 00:41:16.47\00:41:20.34 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and ask. 00:41:20.38\00:41:22.41 So 800-835-6747 or #250 on your phone and we'll send it to you. 00:41:22.44\00:41:29.38 Next caller that we have is Ashton listening in Kentucky. 00:41:29.42\00:41:33.42 Ashton, welcome to the program. 00:41:33.46\00:41:35.72 Ashton: Hello, Doug. Doug: Hi. 00:41:35.76\00:41:38.16 Ashton: My question would be in regard to second commandment. 00:41:38.19\00:41:44.63 And it's been on my mind for quite some 00:41:44.67\00:41:47.27 time, but let me just get straight to it. 00:41:47.30\00:41:51.07 So the commandment is "Thou shalt 00:41:51.11\00:41:54.11 not make unto thee any graven image." 00:41:54.14\00:41:56.51 And the second part is, you know, not to bow down to it. 00:41:56.54\00:42:00.55 Now, I've seen plenty of different research articles 00:42:00.58\00:42:03.85 online saying, you know, you can't have paintings, you can't 00:42:03.89\00:42:07.96 have pictures, you can't have even little figurines of, you 00:42:07.99\00:42:12.96 know, animals or anything like that because 00:42:12.99\00:42:15.50 it would be considered a graven image. 00:42:15.53\00:42:18.63 Now, I guess my question is then why did 00:42:18.67\00:42:22.07 God have Moses make a bronze serpent? 00:42:22.10\00:42:25.94 Why did he have him make cherubims 00:42:25.97\00:42:27.78 on the Ark of the Covenant? 00:42:27.81\00:42:29.91 Why exactly in the temple, for example, are 00:42:29.94\00:42:32.95 there all kinds of different, you know-- 00:42:32.98\00:42:36.48 Doug: Representations and things. 00:42:36.52\00:42:38.15 Yeah. 00:42:38.19\00:42:40.06 Well, let me take a stab at it. 00:42:40.09\00:42:42.66 I think the key in this commandment--and it 00:42:42.69\00:42:44.93 says you shall not make yourself a carved image. 00:42:44.96\00:42:47.23 This is Genesis chapter 20, verse 4. 00:42:47.30\00:42:50.07 "You shall not make yourself a carved image of any likeness of 00:42:50.10\00:42:52.80 anything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth 00:42:52.83\00:42:55.70 beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 00:42:55.74\00:42:58.04 You shall not bow down to them nor serve them." 00:42:58.07\00:43:01.64 So the commandment is not just don't make something. 00:43:01.68\00:43:04.11 It says don't make something and bow down to it and serve it. 00:43:04.15\00:43:08.95 When the children of Israel made a golden calf 00:43:08.98\00:43:11.45 and called it their god, that was clearly 00:43:11.49\00:43:13.69 idolatry and they were punished for it. 00:43:13.72\00:43:16.96 When they made oxen that held up the laver 00:43:16.99\00:43:20.86 in the Temple of Solomon, that was not a sin. 00:43:20.90\00:43:23.67 That was just, you know, a representation. 00:43:23.70\00:43:26.20 So there were artistic things that 00:43:26.23\00:43:27.97 were done, and they didn't pray to it. 00:43:28.00\00:43:31.07 Like you said, when they made the bronze serpent, that was 00:43:31.11\00:43:34.48 done under the instruction of Moses. 00:43:34.51\00:43:36.21 But during the time of Hezekiah, when people started praying to 00:43:36.24\00:43:39.41 the bronze serpent, Hezekiah broke it to pieces 00:43:39.45\00:43:42.22 and he said, "It's just a piece of brass. 00:43:42.25\00:43:44.39 We're not supposed to pray to idols." 00:43:44.42\00:43:46.69 So to have a photograph of your children in your wallet 00:43:46.72\00:43:49.56 is technically--it's a representation. 00:43:49.59\00:43:52.46 It's an image. It's a likeness. 00:43:52.49\00:43:55.00 I think Christians ought to stay away from religious icons. 00:43:55.03\00:43:59.03 In other words, having a statue of Jesus on your front lawn 00:43:59.07\00:44:02.10 might tempt somebody to think there's something holy about it. 00:44:02.14\00:44:05.04 Or when you start putting statues of Mary on your 00:44:05.07\00:44:07.98 dashboard of your car, you know, some people come 00:44:08.01\00:44:11.18 in the car, and they'll cross themselves. 00:44:11.21\00:44:12.91 They think it's something sacred. 00:44:12.95\00:44:14.48 It's just a piece of plastic. 00:44:14.52\00:44:16.02 So, you know, you don't want to do anything that's 00:44:16.05\00:44:19.42 going to cause someone else to stumble. 00:44:19.45\00:44:21.59 There's nothing technically wrong with having a 00:44:21.62\00:44:23.76 representation of something, but we are not to bow down and pray 00:44:23.79\00:44:27.86 to these things or worship these things. 00:44:27.93\00:44:30.33 Jean: All right. Very good. 00:44:30.37\00:44:31.67 Thank you for your call. Good question. 00:44:31.70\00:44:33.23 We've got Josiah listening from Florida. 00:44:33.27\00:44:36.60 Josiah, welcome to the program. 00:44:36.64\00:44:41.34 Doug: Josiah, are you there from Florida? 00:44:41.38\00:44:43.88 Josiah: Oh, hello. 00:44:43.91\00:44:45.61 Doug: Hi. Thanks for your patience. 00:44:45.65\00:44:47.08 You're on the air. 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.55 Josiah: So my question is, if 1,000 years for God is a day for 00:44:49.58\00:44:54.29 us, does that mean the devil will be bound for a day? 00:44:54.32\00:44:59.63 Doug: Well, it says 1,000 years are like a day for God. 00:44:59.66\00:45:03.73 It doesn't say 1,000 years are like a day for the devil. 00:45:03.77\00:45:07.00 For the devil when he's bound for 1,000 years, especially 00:45:07.04\00:45:10.74 bound in darkness in this world that is going to be, 00:45:10.77\00:45:13.74 you know, like, in a bottomless pit, it's going 00:45:13.78\00:45:16.01 to seem like 1,000 years or longer. 00:45:16.04\00:45:18.95 I just heard about some ladies that 00:45:18.98\00:45:20.78 were rescued from the earthquake. 00:45:20.82\00:45:23.12 They were in darkness for a week. 00:45:23.15\00:45:26.22 Two sisters were trapped together under 00:45:26.25\00:45:28.32 concrete in the darkness for a week. 00:45:28.36\00:45:30.66 And when they were rescued, they thought--I'm sorry. 00:45:30.69\00:45:32.76 They were under there for 60 hours. 00:45:32.79\00:45:35.73 It was, like, three days, and they thought they had been there 00:45:35.76\00:45:38.53 a week, and it was three days 'cause they're in the dark. 00:45:38.57\00:45:42.34 No measurement of time. 00:45:42.37\00:45:43.61 So for the devil when he's bound for 1,000 years in the darkness 00:45:43.64\00:45:46.37 of this world, I think it's going to seem like a long time 00:45:46.41\00:45:50.45 for him 'cause he's waiting for his judgment. 00:45:50.48\00:45:52.51 Jean: Right, at the end of that 1,000 years. 00:45:52.55\00:45:53.85 You know, we do have a study guide 00:45:53.88\00:45:55.18 that talks about the 1,000 years. 00:45:55.22\00:45:56.52 It's called "1,000 Years of Peace." 00:45:56.55\00:45:58.55 Revelation chapter 20. 00:45:58.59\00:46:00.09 And we'll send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:46:00.12\00:46:01.92 800-835-6747. 00:46:01.96\00:46:05.19 Ask for the study guide called "1,000 Years of Peace." 00:46:05.23\00:46:08.00 You can also dial #250 and ask for that same study guide. 00:46:08.03\00:46:11.93 We'll send it out to you. 00:46:11.97\00:46:13.27 Doug: Thank you, Josiah. Good question. 00:46:13.30\00:46:14.87 Jean: Next caller that we have is Jeff listening from Florida. 00:46:14.90\00:46:17.77 Jeff, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:46:17.81\00:46:23.18 Jeff in Florida. 00:46:23.21\00:46:26.31 Doug: Jeff, you there? 00:46:26.35\00:46:28.55 Jeff: Yes, I'm sorry. Hello, hello. 00:46:28.58\00:46:31.22 I accidentally hit the mute button. 00:46:31.25\00:46:32.62 Sorry about that. Okay. 00:46:32.65\00:46:35.32 So my question is--first of all, good evening, 00:46:35.36\00:46:37.53 Pastor Jean Ross and Pastor Doug. 00:46:37.56\00:46:39.46 Doug: Evening. 00:46:39.49\00:46:40.80 Jeff: So my question is, how can a follower of 00:46:40.83\00:46:42.63 Christ find a balance between the teaching of Matthew 7, 00:46:42.66\00:46:46.67 verse 6 and Ezekiel 3:17 through 19? 00:46:46.70\00:46:51.17 So it's the concepts of give not which is holy unto the dogs, 00:46:51.21\00:46:54.41 neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample 00:46:54.44\00:46:57.15 them under your feet and turn again around you. 00:46:57.18\00:46:59.61 And then the teaching in Ezekiel that when I say to the wicked 00:46:59.65\00:47:04.92 thou shalt surely die and thou givest him not warning nor speak 00:47:04.95\00:47:08.56 to warn the wicked of his wicked way, to save his life. 00:47:08.59\00:47:12.19 The same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, 00:47:12.23\00:47:14.36 but his blood will I require at thine hand. 00:47:14.36\00:47:17.13 And it goes on to say if you warn the wicked 00:47:17.17\00:47:19.23 from his ways, then you will deliver your soul. 00:47:19.27\00:47:24.31 So can you expound upon that in how you might find a balance 00:47:24.34\00:47:29.11 when you're trying to witness to people or share the 00:47:29.14\00:47:31.35 gospel with fellow people or Christians? 00:47:31.38\00:47:34.98 Doug: Yeah, good question. 00:47:35.02\00:47:36.48 First of all, when God is telling Ezekiel, 00:47:36.52\00:47:39.95 "Cry aloud, blow the trumpet. 00:47:39.99\00:47:41.62 If you don't warn the wicked to turn from his ways--" 00:47:41.66\00:47:44.19 And He's speaking to a watchman. 00:47:44.23\00:47:45.76 He's not talking about everybody. 00:47:45.79\00:47:47.10 He says, "I've called you to be a 00:47:47.13\00:47:48.40 watchman on the walls of Israel. 00:47:48.43\00:47:49.73 You need to warn people." 00:47:49.76\00:47:51.47 Ezekiel was given a special message for his people during a 00:47:51.50\00:47:54.34 time, and he had a responsibility to give the 00:47:54.37\00:47:57.54 trumpet a certain sound and to warn them and, you know, 00:47:57.57\00:48:01.74 hopefully they would listen and repent. 00:48:01.78\00:48:03.38 If he didn't do that, then he was accountable. 00:48:03.41\00:48:06.31 But Christians also have a similar responsibility to be 00:48:06.35\00:48:09.42 faithful witnesses when we have opportunity. 00:48:09.45\00:48:12.15 That doesn't mean--and I know people that are--they think that 00:48:12.19\00:48:15.29 everybody they see on the street they've got 00:48:15.32\00:48:17.26 to find out if they're saved and give them 00:48:17.29\00:48:18.76 the gospel, and that's really not practical. 00:48:18.79\00:48:21.50 We don't see Jesus doing that. 00:48:21.53\00:48:23.43 So you're not responsible to wrestle everybody to the 00:48:23.47\00:48:26.30 ground that walks by you and find out if they're 00:48:26.33\00:48:28.14 saved and try and witness to them. 00:48:28.17\00:48:30.01 You'll go crazy trying to do that. 00:48:30.04\00:48:31.87 And when it says there in Matthew to--well, 00:48:31.91\00:48:35.61 let me back up and finish the other thought. 00:48:35.64\00:48:37.88 God wants us to be witnesses when we have opportunity. 00:48:37.91\00:48:41.65 He'll give us opportunity. 00:48:41.68\00:48:43.05 The Holy Spirit will speak to us. 00:48:43.08\00:48:45.02 And different people you can witness 00:48:45.05\00:48:46.52 to in different ways to different levels. 00:48:46.55\00:48:48.79 You know, if you're trying to reach someone that's an atheist, 00:48:48.82\00:48:51.36 well, you don't start quoting verses to them right away. 00:48:51.39\00:48:53.83 You first try and build some confidence in the Bible and talk 00:48:53.86\00:48:56.70 to them about the bigger picture. 00:48:56.73\00:48:59.70 So you pray for wisdom and tact to reach people where they are. 00:48:59.73\00:49:03.47 We see Jesus doing this, whether he's talking 00:49:03.51\00:49:05.67 to the woman at the well or Nicodemus. 00:49:05.71\00:49:08.41 And when it comes to casting your pearls before swine, there 00:49:08.44\00:49:12.61 are people who have just turned their back and closed their eyes 00:49:12.65\00:49:15.58 and their ears and they just don't want to hear it. 00:49:15.62\00:49:18.12 You can see Jesus dealt with some of the Pharisees and the 00:49:18.15\00:49:20.89 hypocrites in a very different way because they had rejected 00:49:20.92\00:49:25.13 the commandment of God to follow tradition. 00:49:25.16\00:49:27.56 So he wasn't quite as patient with them as he was with some of 00:49:27.60\00:49:30.73 the publicans and sinners that had at least open hearts. 00:49:30.77\00:49:34.27 So it varies from person to person. 00:49:34.30\00:49:36.20 Jean: Right. Absolutely. 00:49:36.24\00:49:37.47 I mean, our job, Pastor Doug, as you mentioned, we want to share 00:49:37.51\00:49:40.94 every opportunity we have, but there is a point where there's 00:49:40.98\00:49:44.28 sometimes people that will just want to take your time and that 00:49:44.31\00:49:48.82 causes a lack of you being able to minister to others. 00:49:48.85\00:49:51.45 Doug: That's right. 00:49:51.49\00:49:52.79 Jean: All right. Thank you for your call. 00:49:52.82\00:49:54.12 We got Angela listening in Canada. 00:49:54.16\00:49:55.46 Angela, welcome to the program. 00:49:55.49\00:49:57.99 Angela: Hi. Good night. 00:49:58.03\00:49:59.49 Can you hear me? 00:49:59.53\00:50:00.83 Doug: Yes. Angela: Okay. 00:50:00.86\00:50:02.96 So it is said to me, and I've heard it often, that your gift 00:50:03.00\00:50:08.94 or your talent or your purpose will make room for you. 00:50:08.97\00:50:12.94 And so I am struggling to see that the purpose or the gift 00:50:12.97\00:50:16.78 that God gave me, why is it not making any room for me? 00:50:16.81\00:50:21.18 Why am I having so much conflict, like total famine? 00:50:21.22\00:50:25.59 So I'm thinking maybe it's not my 00:50:25.62\00:50:27.36 gift what I'm thinking is my gift. 00:50:27.39\00:50:30.16 So please explain your gift making room for 00:50:30.19\00:50:33.73 you because I'm not seeing the room. 00:50:33.76\00:50:36.03 Should I be expecting challenges? 00:50:36.06\00:50:38.83 Doug: Yeah, you know, God will give you different gifts, but if 00:50:38.87\00:50:41.14 you--if God gives you a spiritual gift, He will then 00:50:41.17\00:50:44.34 give you opportunity to exercise or express that gift. 00:50:44.37\00:50:48.21 Now, it may not always happen right away. 00:50:48.24\00:50:51.08 Moses had given up on the idea that he had a gift of prophecy. 00:50:51.11\00:50:56.38 He spent 40 years following sheep 00:50:56.42\00:50:58.32 around, but the timing wasn't right. 00:50:58.35\00:51:01.36 He needed to still learn to hone that 00:51:01.39\00:51:03.22 gift and increase his trust in God. 00:51:03.26\00:51:05.79 And then finally you see in the book of Exodus when 00:51:05.83\00:51:08.60 God calls him in chapter 3, he then is 00:51:08.63\00:51:11.57 given an opportunity to use that gift. 00:51:11.60\00:51:14.37 And it's the same thing when, you know, God called 00:51:14.40\00:51:16.64 Isaiah and He said, "Who will I send?" 00:51:16.67\00:51:19.57 So some of it is timing. 00:51:19.61\00:51:23.51 Paul, you know, he was going a completely different direction 00:51:23.55\00:51:27.15 and then God got his attention and empowered him. 00:51:27.18\00:51:29.68 Peter was fishing for fish and Jesus said, "No, 00:51:29.72\00:51:31.35 you really should be fishing for men." 00:51:31.39\00:51:33.59 So some of it is timing. 00:51:33.62\00:51:35.42 When it comes to your spiritual gifts, it's always a good idea 00:51:35.46\00:51:37.99 to talk to Christian counsel around you that knows you and 00:51:38.03\00:51:43.47 say, "What do you believe my gifts are, and how can I 00:51:43.50\00:51:47.44 incorporate or look for opportunity to use these gifts?" 00:51:47.47\00:51:51.21 But I would say, first and foremost, 00:51:51.24\00:51:53.01 surrender your heart completely to God. 00:51:53.04\00:51:55.38 If you say, "God, I am yours. I'm surrendering myself. 00:51:55.41\00:51:57.98 I'm repenting of my sins. 00:51:58.01\00:52:00.08 Please use me and open the doors you want me to go through." 00:52:00.12\00:52:03.49 He will open the doors. 00:52:03.52\00:52:05.45 I just know that because He's done it for me all my life. 00:52:05.49\00:52:09.59 Jean: Amen, all right, we got Nicole listening in Michigan. 00:52:09.62\00:52:12.43 Nicole, welcome to the program. 00:52:12.46\00:52:15.46 Nicole: Hi, pastors. How are you? 00:52:15.50\00:52:17.20 Doug: Doing good. Thank you for calling. 00:52:17.23\00:52:19.07 Nicole: Good, I just want to thank you for all that you do. 00:52:19.10\00:52:21.74 But my question is in Romans chapter 9, verses 21 to 23 it 00:52:21.77\00:52:28.04 sounds like the Bible is saying that God made vessels fitted for 00:52:28.08\00:52:31.61 destruction, and I don't know--I don't 00:52:31.65\00:52:34.82 think that he did, but if he did not, what does 00:52:34.85\00:52:37.59 that text mean, vessels fitted for destruction? 00:52:37.62\00:52:41.89 Doug: Yeah, I don't think Paul is saying that some people 00:52:41.92\00:52:44.26 were made to be destroyed because, you know, God loves us 00:52:44.29\00:52:47.76 so much He gave His Son to save us. 00:52:47.76\00:52:49.40 He's not willing--Peter says in 2 Peter 3, He's not willing that 00:52:49.43\00:52:53.30 any should perish and that would be destroyed. 00:52:53.34\00:52:56.60 He doesn't want anyone to be destroyed. 00:52:56.64\00:52:58.84 Paul is really just making an argument that when people are 00:52:58.87\00:53:01.71 saying, "Why did God make me the way I am?" 00:53:01.74\00:53:03.75 He says, "Look, He's the potter. You're the clay." 00:53:03.78\00:53:05.71 He may want to make one pot that is going to just be thrown away. 00:53:05.75\00:53:10.05 And, you know, what right do we have to say to 00:53:10.09\00:53:12.89 the potter, "Why are you making it this way?" 00:53:12.92\00:53:14.62 It's his clay. 00:53:14.66\00:53:15.96 So Paul is really sharing an overreaching principle there. 00:53:15.99\00:53:19.09 I don't think he's suggesting that anybody 00:53:19.13\00:53:20.90 that God makes is trash to be discarded. 00:53:20.93\00:53:23.87 Jean: Yeah, of course. 00:53:23.90\00:53:25.20 If that's the case, then you have God being responsible for 00:53:25.23\00:53:28.14 those who are lost, which the Bible doesn't teach. 00:53:28.17\00:53:30.47 Doug: Yeah, made you to be lost. 00:53:30.51\00:53:31.94 That wouldn't make any sense. 00:53:31.97\00:53:33.31 Jean: Right. All right, good question. 00:53:33.34\00:53:35.28 We've got probably time for one more. 00:53:35.31\00:53:37.51 Let's see. CJ in Arizona. 00:53:37.55\00:53:39.85 CJ, welcome to the program. 00:53:39.88\00:53:42.72 CJ: Good evening, gentlemen. Doug: Evening. 00:53:42.75\00:53:44.69 CJ: I just want to say thank you very much 00:53:44.72\00:53:46.02 for the things that you have done. 00:53:46.05\00:53:48.72 You guys taught me a lot. 00:53:48.76\00:53:50.26 My question is--tonight is, since there's power in the name, 00:53:50.29\00:53:54.20 why is it that we don't use--call God 00:53:54.20\00:53:57.07 by His actual name, which is Yahweh, and we 00:53:57.10\00:54:03.24 don't call--and same thing with Jesus. 00:54:03.27\00:54:06.31 We don't call Jesus by his original name, which is Yeshua. 00:54:06.34\00:54:11.08 Why is it then--where did Jesus come from since God is a title? 00:54:11.11\00:54:15.65 Doug: Okay. Well, you're right. 00:54:15.68\00:54:18.02 When Moses said to God there at the burning bush, "When they 00:54:18.05\00:54:21.32 ask me who did you send, what shall I say?" 00:54:21.36\00:54:24.16 God said, "I am that I am." 00:54:24.19\00:54:26.80 And God reveals Himself by the name Yahweh. 00:54:26.83\00:54:29.30 Now, if from that point in Exodus through the rest of the 00:54:29.33\00:54:32.97 Bible God only used the name Yahweh, we'd say, 00:54:33.00\00:54:36.64 "Well, that's what we're supposed to do." 00:54:36.67\00:54:38.67 But God actually uses a number of different names for Himself. 00:54:38.71\00:54:42.81 And if you get to the book of Revelation, Jesus, he must have 00:54:42.84\00:54:46.55 about 40 names in Revelation, everything from he's the bread, 00:54:46.58\00:54:50.15 he's the alpha and the omega, he's the 00:54:50.19\00:54:51.72 I am, he's the morning star, on and on. 00:54:51.75\00:54:54.39 Hey, I wish I had more time. 00:54:54.42\00:54:56.16 I have a book called "The Name of God." 00:54:56.19\00:54:57.56 You can get a free copy. 00:54:57.59\00:54:58.89 For our listening friends, we kind of sign off in two stages. 00:54:58.93\00:55:01.76 We're going to do that. 00:55:01.80\00:55:03.10 Goodbye to those listening on satellite. 00:55:03.13\00:55:04.93 God bless you till next week. 00:55:04.97\00:55:06.37 For the rest, stand by. 00:55:06.40\00:55:07.90 We'll be back with a couple of rapid fire questions. 00:55:07.94\00:55:10.57 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:13.84\00:55:16.28 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:16.31\00:55:19.81 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:19.85\00:55:24.05 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:24.09\00:55:27.99 Jean: Hello, friends, welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:29.49\00:55:31.76 And we have a few minutes, Pastor Doug, where we're going 00:55:31.79\00:55:33.46 to take some questions that people have emailed to us. 00:55:33.50\00:55:36.40 And so here's the first question that we have. 00:55:36.43\00:55:38.60 Somebody says, "I've heard about a special resurrection. 00:55:38.63\00:55:42.00 Is that in the Bible?" 00:55:42.04\00:55:43.94 Doug: Yeah, when it says special resurrection, you've got, of 00:55:43.97\00:55:46.94 course, the main general resurrection, but some will be 00:55:46.98\00:55:51.45 specially resurrected at the second coming. 00:55:51.48\00:55:54.18 This is not at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:55:54.22\00:55:55.68 There may be some who will be specially resurrected who were 00:55:55.72\00:56:00.06 participating in the execution of Jesus, and you read in Daniel 00:56:00.09\00:56:04.63 chapter 12 some will come forth to everlasting life and some to 00:56:04.66\00:56:08.10 shame and everlasting contempt when Michael stands up. 00:56:08.13\00:56:11.23 Christ said to the high priest Caiaphas, "Hereafter, you will 00:56:11.27\00:56:15.17 see the Son of man coming on the right hand of power." 00:56:15.20\00:56:18.94 So Caiaphas and some of the Sanhedrin that condemned Jesus 00:56:18.97\00:56:22.68 in that kangaroo court, maybe some of the soldiers that 00:56:22.71\00:56:26.18 participated in crucifying him when that event took place, they 00:56:26.21\00:56:31.32 may be raised to see that he was indeed the King. 00:56:31.35\00:56:34.76 So there's a couple of verses that talk about that. 00:56:34.79\00:56:39.49 It says in Revelation, "Every eye will see him, 00:56:39.53\00:56:42.06 those also that pierced him when he comes." 00:56:42.10\00:56:45.17 Jean: Okay, next question that we have, "What did Jesus mean 00:56:45.20\00:56:48.14 when he said the night is coming when no one can work?" 00:56:48.17\00:56:52.77 Doug: Yeah, when Jesus first ascended to heaven, there was a 00:56:52.81\00:56:55.58 period of time for about, oh, seven years--well, there's 00:56:55.61\00:57:00.35 three and a half years from Christ's ascension till 00:57:00.38\00:57:02.52 the first martyr, stoning of Stephen. 00:57:02.55\00:57:05.19 But even after that, they were able to do a great work after 00:57:05.22\00:57:07.52 the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:57:07.56\00:57:09.76 But then a great persecution arose in Jerusalem, and even 00:57:09.79\00:57:13.06 during the time of Diocletian, the Roman emperors, there was a 00:57:13.09\00:57:17.70 time of darkness and night and you see that in the churches--or 00:57:17.73\00:57:22.64 I should say the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. 00:57:22.67\00:57:24.94 There was great darkness for 00:57:24.97\00:57:26.27 that second horse, that persecution. 00:57:26.31\00:57:29.14 Jean: We also have probationary time ending for the 00:57:29.18\00:57:32.51 Jews as a nation, which of course happened 34 AD at the 00:57:32.55\00:57:36.75 stoning of Stephen, and then there's a close 00:57:36.79\00:57:38.82 of probation that will occur before Jesus 00:57:38.85\00:57:40.79 comes and we're not going to be able to work. 00:57:40.82\00:57:43.02 You know, people won't be converted. 00:57:43.06\00:57:44.69 All right, last question that we have. 00:57:44.73\00:57:46.70 "Are only 144,000 people going to be saved when Jesus comes?" 00:57:46.73\00:57:51.30 Doug: No, you can read in Revelation 7 there is also a 00:57:51.33\00:57:54.34 great multitude, and John asked the attending elder, 00:57:54.37\00:57:58.17 "Who are these arrayed in white robes?" 00:57:58.21\00:58:00.84 He said, "These are they that came out of great tribulation." 00:58:00.88\00:58:04.41 And for any of our friends listening, if you want to know 00:58:04.45\00:58:06.41 more about that, we've got a book, "Who Are the 144,000?" 00:58:06.45\00:58:10.05 Go to AmazingFacts.org. You'll see it there online. 00:58:10.09\00:58:14.36 God bless. We are out of time. 00:58:14.39\00:58:15.96 We look forward to studying His Word with you again next week. 00:58:15.99\00:58:18.76 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and 00:58:21.73\00:58:24.20 accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:24.23\00:58:27.04
