¤¤¤ 00:00:01.30\00:00:02.96 male announcer: It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:03.00\00:00:05.63 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, and its 00:00:05.67\00:00:09.77 words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, should 00:00:09.80\00:00:13.71 always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.74\00:00:16.18 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.21\00:00:19.75 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," providing accurate and practical 00:00:19.78\00:00:24.39 answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:24.42\00:00:28.39 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.42\00:00:31.19 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned in this 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.73 broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.76\00:00:38.77 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:38.80\00:00:44.01 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.04\00:00:47.78 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:47.81\00:00:50.35 Doug Batchelor: Hello, friends. 00:00:50.38\00:00:51.68 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.71\00:00:54.62 Back in 1922, after a minor slip and a fall at work, an Iowa man 00:00:54.65\00:01:00.82 started hiccuping and he didn't stop for 68 years. 00:01:00.86\00:01:06.06 Over the weeks, months, and years, Charles Osborne 00:01:06.09\00:01:08.90 tried everything to get rid of his pesky condition. 00:01:08.93\00:01:12.37 He traveled cross-country to visit doctors and even resorted 00:01:12.40\00:01:15.50 to hormone therapy but it seemed that nothing could cure 00:01:15.54\00:01:18.67 his chronic hiccups. 00:01:18.71\00:01:20.94 Not wanting an experimental surgery, Osborne eventually 00:01:20.98\00:01:23.95 learned to hiccup quietly and live 00:01:23.98\00:01:26.35 with his annoying condition. 00:01:26.38\00:01:28.18 He did marry and had a job and had a family. 00:01:28.22\00:01:31.15 But one day in 1990, after 68 years of non-stop hiccups, when 00:01:31.19\00:01:37.66 Osborne was 96 years old, his hiccups mysteriously stopped. 00:01:37.69\00:01:43.00 His last months of life were thankfully hiccup-free. 00:01:43.03\00:01:46.63 Osborne's condition also earned him a place in the Guinness Book 00:01:46.67\00:01:49.74 of World Records and an interview with Johnny Carson on 00:01:49.77\00:01:52.41 the "Tonight Show." 00:01:52.44\00:01:54.04 It's estimated that between the ages of 29 and 96, Osborne 00:01:54.08\00:01:58.25 hiccuped 430 million times, and doctors never did figure out 00:01:58.28\00:02:04.12 precisely what caused his lifelong affliction. 00:02:04.15\00:02:08.46 You know, Pastor Ross, that's what you would call a mystery, 00:02:08.49\00:02:11.49 a conundrum, an enigma. 00:02:11.53\00:02:13.76 Where did his hiccups come from and where did they go? 00:02:13.80\00:02:16.53 They just stopped after 68 years. 00:02:16.56\00:02:19.30 And the Bible talks about, oh, I think 22 times it uses 00:02:19.33\00:02:23.54 the word "mystery." 00:02:23.57\00:02:25.47 There are some mysteries. 00:02:25.51\00:02:26.74 You know, you've got the mystery of godliness and then the Bible 00:02:26.78\00:02:29.38 tells us in, what, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, about 00:02:29.41\00:02:32.95 the mystery of iniquity. 00:02:32.98\00:02:34.95 People want to know, "Where did sin come from?" 00:02:34.98\00:02:36.75 Jean Ross: That's right. 00:02:36.79\00:02:38.15 One of the questions that we often have is, "If God is a God 00:02:38.19\00:02:40.36 of love and He's all-powerful, why do we live in a world where 00:02:40.39\00:02:43.76 there is sin and suffering and death?" 00:02:43.79\00:02:46.80 Well, the Bible gives us the answer. 00:02:46.83\00:02:48.96 However, there is that element of mystery. 00:02:49.00\00:02:52.73 The Bible speaks about the mystery of iniquity, that 00:02:52.77\00:02:55.87 self-centeredness that arose in the heart of a beautiful angel, 00:02:55.90\00:02:59.14 Lucifer, in heaven and, you know, we do have a study guide 00:02:59.17\00:03:02.44 that talks about this. 00:03:02.48\00:03:03.95 This is an important subject. 00:03:03.98\00:03:05.31 People often wonder, "If God is good, 00:03:05.35\00:03:07.05 why is there bad in the world? 00:03:07.08\00:03:09.22 Did God create a devil?" 00:03:09.25\00:03:11.12 That's one of the questions people have. 00:03:11.15\00:03:12.49 Well, we have a study guide, part of the Amazing Facts Study 00:03:12.52\00:03:14.32 Guide series, and it talks about the origin of evil and we'll 00:03:14.36\00:03:19.33 send this lesson for free. 00:03:19.36\00:03:20.80 It's called, "Did God Create a Devil?" 00:03:20.83\00:03:22.73 You might be surprised when you read and study this. 00:03:22.76\00:03:25.70 We'll send it to anyone here in the United States and Canada. 00:03:25.73\00:03:28.74 All you need to do is call the number, 800-835-6747, and you 00:03:28.77\00:03:33.71 can ask for the study guide. 00:03:33.74\00:03:35.21 It's called, "Did God Create a Devil?" 00:03:35.24\00:03:37.41 And if you have a cell phone, you can also just dial #250 and 00:03:37.45\00:03:42.45 say, "Bible Answers Live," and ask for the study guide, 00:03:42.48\00:03:45.22 "Did God Create a Devil?" 00:03:45.25\00:03:47.46 We'll be happy to send you a digital copy 00:03:47.49\00:03:49.19 or through the mail. 00:03:49.22\00:03:50.99 And if you're outside of North America, you can just go to the 00:03:51.03\00:03:53.36 Amazing Facts website, just amazingfacts.org. 00:03:53.40\00:03:57.47 And Pastor Doug, it's probably a good time for us to greet our 00:03:57.50\00:03:59.60 friends who are watching and listening across the country and 00:03:59.63\00:04:02.37 in other places through the Internet, around the world. 00:04:02.40\00:04:05.27 I know our program is rebroadcast on a number of 00:04:05.31\00:04:07.71 different television networks as well, so we'd like to greet 00:04:07.74\00:04:11.21 our friends listening. 00:04:11.25\00:04:12.85 And if you'd like to see what's happening here, this is live 00:04:12.88\00:04:15.25 this evening, you can just simply go to the Doug Batchelor 00:04:15.28\00:04:18.39 Facebook page or the Amazing Facts Facebook page. 00:04:18.42\00:04:21.22 We're also live on YouTube, and you can call in 00:04:21.26\00:04:25.26 with your Bible question. 00:04:25.29\00:04:27.13 The number here to the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:04:27.13\00:04:32.07 That's 800-463-7297, and you'll be able to get 00:04:32.10\00:04:36.74 your Bible question on the air this evening. 00:04:36.77\00:04:40.24 Well, before we go to the phone lines, let's start 00:04:40.28\00:04:41.74 with a word of prayer. 00:04:41.78\00:04:43.01 Dear Father, we thank You that we have this time where we can 00:04:43.04\00:04:45.01 just open up Your Word and study. 00:04:45.05\00:04:47.25 And Lord, we know the Bible is Your book so we do pray for the 00:04:47.28\00:04:49.48 Holy Spirit to guide us, be with our friends who are listening 00:04:49.52\00:04:52.59 wherever they might be, and lead us into a clearer understanding 00:04:52.62\00:04:55.32 of the teachings of the Bible, in Jesus's name, amen. 00:04:55.36\00:04:59.16 Doug: Amen. 00:04:59.19\00:05:00.70 Jean: Well, Pastor Doug, our first caller this evening, we're 00:05:00.73\00:05:02.76 going to get right to it. 00:05:02.80\00:05:04.10 We've got Gary listening in Illinois. 00:05:04.13\00:05:06.10 Gary, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:05:06.13\00:05:08.64 Gary: Well, my question is: "'There are four angels standing 00:05:09.50\00:05:12.77 at the four corners of the earth, holding back the winds 00:05:12.81\00:05:15.34 that would harm the earth, and until the servants of God 00:05:15.38\00:05:20.68 are sealed in their foreheads.' 00:05:20.72\00:05:22.58 So what does 'to be sealed' mean? 00:05:22.62\00:05:25.35 And how does that play up against the thought that Jesus 00:05:25.39\00:05:29.29 did it all; if I have to do one thing to secure my salvation, 00:05:29.32\00:05:33.80 I'm saying that Jesus's Crucifixion wasn't good enough?" 00:05:33.83\00:05:37.37 Doug: Okay, well, let's actually deal with the last part 00:05:37.40\00:05:39.87 of your question first: the idea that because we need to do 00:05:39.90\00:05:44.67 something means that Jesus's sacrifice wasn't adequate. 00:05:44.71\00:05:49.24 Let me just see if I can explain it this way. 00:05:49.28\00:05:51.18 If somebody writes a check to pay 100% of your million-dollar 00:05:51.21\00:05:56.82 debt, and yet the bank still repossesses your home and puts 00:05:56.85\00:06:00.79 you in jail, and you say, "But I thought he paid everything." 00:06:00.82\00:06:03.63 And they say, "Well, you never took the check to the bank." 00:06:03.66\00:06:06.26 So there is something that everybody needs to do. 00:06:06.29\00:06:09.16 We need to reach out and take the gift that He's offered. 00:06:09.20\00:06:13.34 So there is something that needs to be done. 00:06:13.37\00:06:16.00 It doesn't mean that Jesus's sacrifice if inadequate. 00:06:16.04\00:06:18.07 We must respond to that sacrifice. 00:06:18.11\00:06:21.18 So when it says that we must receive the seal of God, 00:06:21.21\00:06:24.15 we must be born again. 00:06:24.18\00:06:25.95 Jesus said, "Unless you are born of the water and the Spirit, 00:06:25.98\00:06:29.22 you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven." 00:06:29.25\00:06:31.65 You look in Ephesians chapter 1, verse 13, it says: "IN HIM YOU 00:06:31.69\00:06:35.36 ALSO TRUSTED, AFTER YOU HEARD THE WORD OF TRUTH, THE GOSPEL OF 00:06:35.39\00:06:39.29 YOUR SALVATION; IN WHOM YOU ALSO HAVE BELIEVED, YOU WERE SEALED 00:06:39.33\00:06:42.90 WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE," 00:06:42.93\00:06:45.23 so there's the word "seal." 00:06:45.27\00:06:46.90 Read again in Ephesians 4, verse 30: "DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY 00:06:46.94\00:06:50.21 SPIRIT OF GOD, BY WHOM YOU ARE SEALED FOR THE DAY 00:06:50.24\00:06:53.74 OF REDEMPTION." 00:06:53.78\00:06:55.08 Now we just read there in Revelation chapter 7, at least 00:06:55.11\00:06:56.81 that's what you were quoting, Gary, about people must receive 00:06:56.85\00:07:00.05 the seal of God if they're going to survive these plagues 00:07:00.08\00:07:03.49 and this wind of strife. 00:07:03.52\00:07:05.09 But there's something deeper than just the Holy Spirit. 00:07:05.12\00:07:08.16 Now what I mean by that is why does it say "in the forehead"? 00:07:08.19\00:07:12.03 If you look in the Old Testament, it says that God's 00:07:12.06\00:07:15.03 people--and this is Deuteronomy chapter 5, is where you have the 00:07:15.06\00:07:19.23 Ten Commandments repeated, chapter 6, is where Moses said, 00:07:19.27\00:07:23.51 "These words that I command you today shall be in your heart, 00:07:23.54\00:07:26.24 they shall be in your hand, they shall be between your eyes." 00:07:26.27\00:07:29.21 So one way that we know that we have the Holy Spirit is by the 00:07:29.24\00:07:31.31 fruits of the Spirit. 00:07:31.35\00:07:33.01 There's obedience in the life. 00:07:33.05\00:07:35.25 You read in Isaiah chapter 8 and it says, "Bind up the testimony, 00:07:35.28\00:07:38.49 seal the law among My disciples." 00:07:38.52\00:07:42.42 So in the law of God is a seal of God, and it shows that we've 00:07:42.46\00:07:45.53 got the fruits of the Spirit. 00:07:45.56\00:07:47.50 We have a whole lesson that talks about the seal of God 00:07:47.50\00:07:49.13 we could send to Gary or anyone that wants to know what that is. 00:07:49.16\00:07:52.70 Jean: That's right. 00:07:52.73\00:07:53.97 It's part of our Amazing Facts Study Guide series and you can 00:07:54.00\00:07:56.91 just call and ask for this study guide called "The Seal of God." 00:07:56.94\00:08:00.71 We'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:08:00.74\00:08:03.75 The number again is 800-835-6747 and you know, Pastor Doug, it's 00:08:03.78\00:08:08.28 interesting in the book of Revelation, not only do you have 00:08:08.32\00:08:10.32 the righteous sealed, not only do they have something 00:08:10.35\00:08:13.22 symbolically on their forehead, but you also have those who are 00:08:13.25\00:08:15.82 lost, the wicked. 00:08:15.86\00:08:17.29 They also marked, they get the mark of the beast. 00:08:17.33\00:08:19.76 So at the end of time, everyone is divided up into two groups: 00:08:19.79\00:08:22.76 those with the seal of God, obedience to God's commandments, 00:08:22.80\00:08:25.83 or the mark of the beast, obedience 00:08:25.87\00:08:29.07 to the beast's commandment. 00:08:29.10\00:08:30.57 We want to be amongst those who have the seal 00:08:30.61\00:08:32.01 of God in the last days. 00:08:32.04\00:08:33.51 Thank you for your call, Gary. 00:08:33.54\00:08:34.91 Next caller that we have is Junith, listening in Nevada. 00:08:34.94\00:08:37.45 Junith, welcome to the program. 00:08:37.48\00:08:40.02 Junith: Hello, can you hear me, Pastor Ross? 00:08:40.05\00:08:42.58 Doug: We do. Junith: Hello, good evening. 00:08:42.62\00:08:44.65 Okay, great, wonderful. Thanks for taking my call again. 00:08:44.69\00:08:48.02 My question is related to Matthew chapter 5, verse 48, 00:08:48.06\00:08:53.86 that we're perfect in the eyes of God. 00:08:53.90\00:08:56.16 My question is: We are still in the midst of the great 00:08:56.20\00:08:59.53 controversy between Christ and Satan, and "once saved will not 00:08:59.57\00:09:03.54 always be saved" is a daily sanctification process 00:09:03.57\00:09:08.24 in a personal relationship with Jesus. 00:09:08.28\00:09:10.51 So what would you recommend biblical, 00:09:10.55\00:09:15.32 I would say, to stop to give, 00:09:15.35\00:09:20.26 to give us a warning sign and a good-luck sign that we are not 00:09:20.29\00:09:25.76 maintaining perfection in the eyes of God. 00:09:25.79\00:09:27.96 What will be your input as to Biblical promises 00:09:27.96\00:09:33.54 that will maintain our spiritual purification daily? 00:09:33.57\00:09:37.74 Thank you for your answer. 00:09:37.77\00:09:39.94 Doug: Yes, well, when Jesus says here in Matthew chapter 00:09:39.97\00:09:43.11 5:48: "Therefore be perfect just as your Father in heaven is 00:09:43.14\00:09:46.51 perfect," He talks about in the previous verses--so always read 00:09:46.55\00:09:50.75 something in its context. 00:09:50.79\00:09:52.69 In the previous verses He talks about loving your brother. 00:09:52.72\00:09:55.82 When Jesus quotes that same verse in the Gospel of Luke He 00:09:55.86\00:09:59.79 says, "BE THEREFORE MERCIFUL, EVEN AS YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN 00:09:59.83\00:10:03.23 IS MERCIFUL." 00:10:03.26\00:10:04.60 And so God wants us to have a perfect love 00:10:04.63\00:10:06.74 and a perfect mercy. 00:10:06.77\00:10:08.70 And we are called to holiness. 00:10:08.74\00:10:11.57 Don't misunderstand. 00:10:11.61\00:10:13.14 The Bible says: "Blessed are the pure in heart. 00:10:13.17\00:10:14.58 They'll see God." 00:10:14.61\00:10:16.14 But as soon as we accept Christ, He then gives us a new heart and 00:10:16.18\00:10:20.25 this is the new covenant, and we begin to think differently. 00:10:20.28\00:10:24.09 Instead of being--and it may not all happen in one day. 00:10:24.12\00:10:26.59 It's called sanctification. 00:10:26.62\00:10:28.39 But instead of being motivated by selfishness and sin, now we 00:10:28.42\00:10:33.06 start being motivated by love and a desire to please God. 00:10:33.09\00:10:38.93 And so there's a change that happens in the heart. 00:10:38.97\00:10:41.34 Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments," and so as 00:10:41.37\00:10:44.74 we get to know Him better, we fall in love with God. 00:10:44.77\00:10:47.98 As we love Him better, we obey Him better. 00:10:48.01\00:10:50.68 And Jesus said that "He that has begun a good work in us 00:10:50.71\00:10:54.42 will perform it. 00:10:54.45\00:10:56.18 He is the author and the finisher of our faith." 00:10:56.22\00:10:57.99 So if we keep dying to self, we take up our cross daily and 00:10:58.02\00:11:01.39 follow Him, we die to self and we follow Jesus, we're being 00:11:01.42\00:11:04.99 transformed into His image. 00:11:05.03\00:11:06.53 Jean: That's right. 00:11:06.56\00:11:07.86 You know, we do have a study guide that talks about, 00:11:07.86\00:11:09.53 actually, one of our books talks about it. 00:11:09.56\00:11:11.13 It's called "Three Steps to Heaven." 00:11:11.17\00:11:12.90 Talks about these different aspects of trusting in God and 00:11:12.93\00:11:15.64 experiencing that deliverance, that cleansing, 00:11:15.67\00:11:18.04 that only comes from the Spirit. 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.21 We'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:11:20.24\00:11:22.31 The number is 800-835-6747 and you can ask for the book. 00:11:22.34\00:11:26.28 It's called "Three Steps to Heaven," and we'll be happy to 00:11:26.31\00:11:28.38 send that for free to anyone in the US and in Canada. 00:11:28.42\00:11:31.95 If you like, you can dial #250 on your phone and say, "Bible 00:11:31.99\00:11:36.73 Answers Live," and then ask for the book, "Three Steps to 00:11:36.76\00:11:39.39 Heaven," and you can also receive it that way. 00:11:39.43\00:11:42.00 Thank you for your call, Junith. 00:11:42.03\00:11:43.67 If you have a Bible question, just another reminder, friends, 00:11:43.70\00:11:45.73 our phone lines are open. 00:11:45.77\00:11:47.57 It's 800-463-7297. 00:11:47.60\00:11:51.37 800-GOD-SAYS, that's 800-463-7297. 00:11:51.41\00:11:57.05 Next caller that we have is Jimmy listening in Texas. 00:11:57.08\00:11:59.08 Jimmy, welcome to the program. 00:11:59.11\00:12:02.42 Jimmy: Yes, sir. 00:12:02.45\00:12:03.75 Thank you, hello, and--pastors. 00:12:03.79\00:12:06.49 Jean: Thanks for calling. 00:12:06.52\00:12:09.19 Jimmy: My question is, I think this is the truth, 00:12:09.22\00:12:13.19 I'm not really sure. 00:12:13.23\00:12:15.40 Christ comes back after the seven last plagues, but it's 00:12:15.43\00:12:21.10 also written that He comes as a thief in the night. 00:12:21.14\00:12:23.64 Does that occur after the seven last plagues or during it? 00:12:23.67\00:12:28.84 Doug: Well, let's read it here. 00:12:28.88\00:12:30.38 If you look in Revelation chapter 16 and you go to verse 00:12:30.41\00:12:33.62 17, it says: "Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl," 00:12:33.65\00:12:38.09 these are the bowls filled with the plagues, so the seventh 00:12:38.12\00:12:40.36 angel is the seventh plague. 00:12:40.39\00:12:42.42 "The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a 00:12:42.46\00:12:45.16 loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the 00:12:45.19\00:12:47.46 throne, saying, 'It is done!' 00:12:47.50\00:12:50.20 And there were noises and thunderings 00:12:50.23\00:12:52.43 and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, 00:12:52.47\00:12:55.50 such a mighty and a great earthquake as has not occurred 00:12:55.54\00:12:57.87 since men were on the earth. 00:12:57.91\00:12:59.71 Now that great city was divided in three parts, 00:12:59.74\00:13:02.91 and the cities of the nations fell. 00:13:02.94\00:13:04.75 And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup 00:13:04.78\00:13:09.28 of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 00:13:09.32\00:13:11.79 Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 00:13:11.82\00:13:15.06 And a great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone 00:13:15.09\00:13:18.96 about the weight of a talent. 00:13:18.99\00:13:20.50 And men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, since 00:13:20.53\00:13:23.77 that plague was exceedingly great." 00:13:23.80\00:13:26.17 So it's understood this great earthquake and hail are 00:13:26.20\00:13:29.17 mentioned other places with the Second Coming of Christ, that 00:13:29.20\00:13:32.74 the seventh plague is really the end for the world, as every 00:13:32.77\00:13:37.15 island fled away, the cities are destroyed. 00:13:37.18\00:13:40.22 You can read in Revel--I'm sorry, in Jeremiah chapter 4, 00:13:40.25\00:13:42.95 it talks about the cities are broken down by the presence of 00:13:42.98\00:13:45.52 the Lord and through His fierce anger. 00:13:45.55\00:13:48.72 So when you read that He's coming like a thief it just 00:13:48.76\00:13:52.46 means that it's going to surprise people when these 00:13:52.49\00:13:55.33 plagues begin to fall. 00:13:55.36\00:13:57.90 People are going to just be blindsided by it all. 00:13:57.93\00:14:01.27 So, yeah, I think it's--since no one knows the day or the hour, 00:14:01.30\00:14:05.24 it's going to surprise people. 00:14:05.27\00:14:06.71 Jean: Let me just read that verse, Pastor Doug, 00:14:06.74\00:14:08.04 because it's interesting. 00:14:08.08\00:14:09.58 2 Peter chapter 3 and verse 10, it says: "But the day of the 00:14:09.61\00:14:12.78 Lord will come as a thief in the night," and there you have it, 00:14:12.81\00:14:15.82 but it says, "in which the heavens will pass away with a 00:14:15.85\00:14:18.15 great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; 00:14:18.19\00:14:21.22 and the earth and the works thereof will be burnt up." 00:14:21.26\00:14:25.06 So, there you have Jesus coming as a thief in the night, but 00:14:25.09\00:14:27.96 when He comes, it talks about the heavens passing away and the 00:14:27.96\00:14:31.37 earth melting with fervent heat, so there's nothing secret about 00:14:31.40\00:14:34.34 the coming of Jesus. 00:14:34.37\00:14:35.97 So when Christ comes as a thief it's not the manner of Christ's 00:14:36.00\00:14:38.94 coming, but it's the unexpectedness. 00:14:38.97\00:14:41.38 He comes and catches the majority of the world 00:14:41.41\00:14:43.75 by surprise. 00:14:43.78\00:14:45.25 Doug: Right, and this is right at the conclusion of the 00:14:45.28\00:14:47.28 seven last plagues. 00:14:47.32\00:14:49.28 Jean: You know, we do have a study guide talking about the 00:14:49.32\00:14:51.15 Second Coming and it's called, "Anything But Secret!" 00:14:51.19\00:14:54.56 It's actually one of our books, and we'll be happy to send this 00:14:54.59\00:14:56.93 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:14:56.96\00:14:58.59 Again, that number is 800-835-6747 and you can ask 00:14:58.63\00:15:02.53 for the book. 00:15:02.56\00:15:04.10 It's called "Anything But Secret," and we'll be happy to 00:15:04.13\00:15:05.53 send it to anyone. 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.04 Dial #250 on your phone and just say, "Bible Answers Live," and 00:15:07.07\00:15:11.34 you can receive the book that way as well. 00:15:11.37\00:15:13.54 Next caller that we have is Brittany listening in Jamaica. 00:15:13.58\00:15:16.75 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:15:16.78\00:15:19.38 Brittany: Hi, Pastor Doug, hi, Pastor Ross. 00:15:19.41\00:15:21.68 Doug: Evening. 00:15:21.72\00:15:23.28 Brittany: Hi, I just wanted to ask: "HOW CAN YOU KNOW IF GOD 00:15:23.32\00:15:26.55 IS CALLING YOU TO EVANGELISM?" 00:15:26.59\00:15:30.03 Doug: Well, if you read in Matthew chapter 28, Jesus said 00:15:30.06\00:15:33.90 to His disciples, "ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME. 00:15:33.93\00:15:37.87 GO THEREFORE, AND TEACH ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE 00:15:37.90\00:15:40.64 NAME OF THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT." 00:15:40.67\00:15:43.27 Teaching--He's telling us to go and teach and make disciples. 00:15:43.30\00:15:47.24 And so that invitation to make disciples, using our various 00:15:47.28\00:15:50.85 spiritual gifts, was not just for the apostles, but I think 00:15:50.88\00:15:55.22 every believer, to some extent, is supposed 00:15:55.25\00:15:58.62 to be sharing their faith. 00:15:58.65\00:16:00.82 Now, whether you're called to full-time evangelism or not, I 00:16:00.86\00:16:04.03 don't know. 00:16:04.06\00:16:05.43 I think that a lot of people have the gifts or certain gifts 00:16:05.46\00:16:07.66 that can be used in evangelism, and they maybe just need some 00:16:07.73\00:16:11.20 training or discipling. 00:16:11.23\00:16:13.17 Amazing Facts actually has a program called AFCOE and it's 00:16:13.20\00:16:17.14 the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism where we teach men 00:16:17.17\00:16:20.11 and women how to do--what are some of the different aspects of 00:16:20.14\00:16:23.71 evangelism? 00:16:23.75\00:16:25.05 Jean: There are different parts to evangelism. 00:16:25.08\00:16:26.31 You've got what we think of: the evangelist standing in front of 00:16:26.35\00:16:28.45 a group of people and they're preaching the Bible. 00:16:28.48\00:16:31.15 But there's also parts of evangelism that we don't always 00:16:31.19\00:16:33.59 think of. 00:16:33.62\00:16:35.06 One is Bible work where somebody's actually doing Bible 00:16:35.09\00:16:37.56 studies, one-on-one, or maybe in somebody's home in a group. 00:16:37.59\00:16:41.46 That's an important part of evangelism. 00:16:41.50\00:16:44.37 There's something else we call literature evangelism where 00:16:44.40\00:16:47.60 people are actually going out and they're using material 00:16:47.64\00:16:50.37 and they're sharing it with other people. 00:16:50.41\00:16:52.24 That way, the people can read and come to an understanding 00:16:52.27\00:16:54.31 of truth. 00:16:54.34\00:16:55.64 So there are different ways in which we can let our light shine 00:16:55.68\00:16:58.41 and we want to say, "Lord, what are the gifts? 00:16:58.45\00:17:00.15 What are the talents that You've given me? 00:17:00.18\00:17:02.02 How can I use those for the furtherance of Your kingdom?" 00:17:02.05\00:17:05.09 Now it might involve preaching. 00:17:05.12\00:17:06.59 Others have the gift of music and they can use their music 00:17:06.62\00:17:08.56 to glorify God and bring people a knowledge of the truth. 00:17:08.59\00:17:11.99 So, each person has got different gifts and we want to 00:17:12.03\00:17:15.03 use those gifts the best way we can. 00:17:15.06\00:17:17.00 Doug: Yeah, if people want to know more about the Amazing 00:17:17.03\00:17:19.17 Facts Evangelism training, and we've got, what, thousands of 00:17:19.20\00:17:22.74 graduates around the world now, you can simply go to AFCOE, 00:17:22.77\00:17:27.61 A-F-C-O-E, afcoe.org, and I think they can even do a lot of 00:17:27.64\00:17:32.98 it online. 00:17:33.01\00:17:34.32 Jean: That's right. 00:17:34.35\00:17:35.65 We have several of the classes available online and, again, 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.39 just go to the Amazing Facts website or AFCOE, you can--if 00:17:37.42\00:17:41.26 you can't remember AFCOE, just go to Amazing Facts and you can 00:17:41.29\00:17:43.19 click on the training link and you can get all the information 00:17:43.22\00:17:46.03 about our evangelism training program that we have. 00:17:46.06\00:17:49.03 Doug: Now, Brittany, real quick. 00:17:49.06\00:17:50.37 Let me just give you more of a direct answer to your question. 00:17:50.40\00:17:52.27 You're saying, "How do I know if He's calling me?" 00:17:52.30\00:17:54.64 You tell the Lord, say, "Lord, I am willing to go," and watch and 00:17:54.67\00:17:58.64 see if He opens the doors. 00:17:58.67\00:17:59.91 If you're willing to go and do something more full-time, say, 00:17:59.94\00:18:03.95 "Lord, if this is Your will, open the doors." 00:18:03.98\00:18:06.95 In the meantime, do what lies closest to hand with, you know, 00:18:06.98\00:18:10.22 all your might. 00:18:10.25\00:18:11.55 Be faithful in whatever your current work is. 00:18:11.59\00:18:13.05 Say, "Lord, open the doors." 00:18:13.09\00:18:14.39 He's done it for me several times and that's one way I knew. 00:18:14.42\00:18:17.76 Jean: Okay, next caller that we have is Jesus, 00:18:17.79\00:18:20.03 listening in Florida. 00:18:20.06\00:18:21.33 Jesus, welcome to the program. 00:18:21.36\00:18:24.70 Jesus: Hello, how are you guys doing tonight? 00:18:24.73\00:18:26.50 Doug: Great, thank you for calling. 00:18:26.53\00:18:29.50 And your question? 00:18:29.54\00:18:31.17 Jesus: Thank you for taking my question. 00:18:31.21\00:18:32.64 Yes, okay, so, in Acts chapter 2, verse 13, it talks about new 00:18:32.67\00:18:38.41 wine, specifically in the context of people mocking those 00:18:38.45\00:18:43.05 who were in the Upper Room that had received the Holy Spirit. 00:18:43.08\00:18:46.69 And I'm assuming that it's insinuating that they're drunk. 00:18:46.72\00:18:51.53 Now, I've always heard the context that new wine symbolizes 00:18:51.56\00:18:55.16 unfermented wine, right? 00:18:55.20\00:18:56.87 Like the first miracle of Jesus as well when He talks 00:18:56.90\00:19:01.10 about it later. 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.00 I'm wondering does that conflict with that idea? 00:19:03.04\00:19:07.54 Like, how are we supposed to understand that? 00:19:07.58\00:19:09.71 Doug: Yeah, well, when the--let me just, for our 00:19:09.74\00:19:12.08 friends that are listening: when the Holy Spirit was poured out 00:19:12.11\00:19:14.45 on the apostles there in Acts chapter 2 and they began to 00:19:14.48\00:19:17.62 preach with power and they were speaking in other languages to 00:19:17.65\00:19:21.19 the people present so, you know, I think it mentions 16 different 00:19:21.22\00:19:25.73 language groups there by the time you get to verse 12. 00:19:25.76\00:19:31.63 And so it sounded like babbling to some that were listening, and 00:19:31.67\00:19:36.44 so some of the Jews were mocking and they said, "Oh, they're full 00:19:36.47\00:19:38.97 of new wine," and the word "new wine" there, new wine is clearly 00:19:39.01\00:19:41.78 not fermented, but people would stumble around sometimes and 00:19:41.81\00:19:46.55 they'd say, "Oh, I thought it was new wine." 00:19:46.58\00:19:48.85 And they'd be drinking. 00:19:48.88\00:19:50.55 They'd be drinking old wine and then they'd say, "Oh, no, but 00:19:50.59\00:19:52.22 I thought it was new wine." 00:19:52.25\00:19:53.62 So that was sort of like a cop-out, and they're mocking the 00:19:53.66\00:19:56.52 disciples, saying, "Oh, they're full of new wine." 00:19:56.56\00:19:59.93 But no, new wine doesn't get you drunk. 00:19:59.96\00:20:02.70 So they were just using this as sarcasm, I guess you would say. 00:20:02.73\00:20:05.93 Jean: Yeah, there's also something else interesting. 00:20:05.97\00:20:07.47 In the Greek there. 00:20:07.50\00:20:08.80 If you look up the word "new wine," it can also be translated 00:20:08.84\00:20:11.11 as sweet wine. 00:20:11.14\00:20:12.81 Now, the Passover, or Pentecost rather, occurred somewhere 00:20:12.84\00:20:16.88 around June but you'd have the harvest of the grapes not until 00:20:16.91\00:20:20.95 August, so what they would do is they would somehow try and 00:20:20.98\00:20:24.25 concentrate this juice and then they'd add water and they could 00:20:24.29\00:20:28.52 use it as grape juice. 00:20:28.56\00:20:31.36 It would be sweet, and so you could use the word "sweet wine" 00:20:31.39\00:20:34.93 instead of new wine, 'cause new wine is the juice that comes 00:20:34.96\00:20:37.10 fresh from the grapes. 00:20:37.13\00:20:39.73 And you didn't have that all year round. 00:20:39.77\00:20:41.50 That was something that was at the harvest. 00:20:41.54\00:20:43.47 So, yeah, there's another word you could use. 00:20:43.51\00:20:45.71 Doug: If you're drinking juice out of a grape, unless 00:20:45.74\00:20:47.48 they're very old grapes, it is not fermented. 00:20:47.51\00:20:49.71 Jean: That's right, yeah, it's fresh. 00:20:49.74\00:20:51.41 Doug: You know, we do have a book and you may have some 00:20:51.45\00:20:53.72 questions about this, Jesus, and it's called 00:20:53.75\00:20:56.92 "Alcohol and the Christian." 00:20:56.95\00:20:58.69 We can send you or anyone who wants to know "What does the 00:20:58.72\00:21:00.62 Bible say about alcohol?" 00:21:00.66\00:21:02.46 We can send you a free copy. 00:21:02.49\00:21:04.39 Jean: The number to call is 800-835-6747 and you can ask for 00:21:04.43\00:21:08.20 the book. 00:21:08.23\00:21:09.53 It's called "Alcohol and the Christian." 00:21:09.56\00:21:10.80 You can also dial #250 on your phone and say, "Bible Answers 00:21:10.83\00:21:14.37 Live" or "Amazing Facts," and ask for that book, "The 00:21:14.40\00:21:17.27 Christian and Alcohol." 00:21:17.31\00:21:19.97 Next caller that we have is Richard listening in Canada. 00:21:20.01\00:21:22.68 Richard, welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:21:22.71\00:21:26.75 Richard: Hello. Doug: Hi. 00:21:26.78\00:21:30.52 Richard: I have a question and it revolves around something 00:21:30.55\00:21:36.66 Jesus said in Matthew 23, verses 8 through 10. 00:21:36.69\00:21:44.70 Is it appropriate for Christians to call each other or accept 00:21:44.73\00:21:54.71 to be called by each other by honorific 00:21:54.74\00:21:57.85 titles, like pastor, bishop? 00:21:57.88\00:22:01.92 Or is that--or should we refer to each other by our names, 00:22:01.95\00:22:07.56 whatever position we may hold? 00:22:07.59\00:22:10.76 Doug: Yeah, well, it's not wrong to address a person 00:22:10.79\00:22:15.33 by an appropriate title. 00:22:15.36\00:22:18.43 If you're going to see your doctor, you know, his name might 00:22:18.47\00:22:22.10 be Robert, you don't necessarily need to say, "Hey, Bob." 00:22:22.14\00:22:25.14 You know, there, I think people are due certain respect based 00:22:25.17\00:22:29.01 on offices. 00:22:29.04\00:22:30.61 I know if you're in the military and you've got a sergeant and 00:22:30.65\00:22:32.65 you call him "Buddy," well, you might end up getting thrown 00:22:32.68\00:22:34.82 in the brig. 00:22:34.85\00:22:36.25 So it's appropriate to call people by certain respectful 00:22:36.28\00:22:39.09 titles, but when it comes to the church, Jesus said, "Call no man 00:22:39.12\00:22:42.82 Father for you have one Father." 00:22:42.86\00:22:45.16 So there's at least one term there and then, you know, Pastor 00:22:45.19\00:22:48.40 Ross and I, people say, "Should we call you 'Reverend,' 00:22:48.43\00:22:51.27 should we call you 'Father'?" 00:22:51.30\00:22:52.87 And we say, "No, the Bible says holy and reverend, meaning 00:22:52.90\00:22:56.34 revered, is His name." 00:22:56.37\00:22:58.44 And so we don't use the word "Reverend," but the word 00:22:58.47\00:23:01.34 "Minister" or "Title" is also a descriptive word and there's 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.21 nothing wrong with using a descriptive word. 00:23:04.25\00:23:06.65 If you say a person is wearing a gray suit, it doesn't mean 00:23:06.68\00:23:10.39 that you're giving them any kind of undue honor. 00:23:10.42\00:23:14.12 It's just a descriptive term. 00:23:14.16\00:23:16.19 So, to call a person by their descriptive profession in 00:23:16.22\00:23:20.16 saying, "Pastor Doug," or "Pastor Jean," 00:23:20.20\00:23:22.30 nothing wrong with that. 00:23:22.33\00:23:23.90 We just don't want to take--the reverence belongs to God and we 00:23:23.93\00:23:27.07 have, really, one Father. 00:23:27.10\00:23:29.24 We should not be giving a man that title; God is our Father. 00:23:29.27\00:23:35.28 Does that make sense, Richard? 00:23:35.31\00:23:39.08 Richard: It does, but He also talks about Rabbi and Master. 00:23:39.11\00:23:47.19 Those were also honorific titles that were used 00:23:47.22\00:23:51.13 when He was telling His disciples. 00:23:51.16\00:23:53.50 Doug: Yeah, and I think Jesus is talking more specifically 00:23:53.53\00:23:55.56 about the teachers and the scribes and they loved 00:23:55.60\00:23:59.27 the titles, they loved the greetings. 00:23:59.30\00:24:02.77 They loved the best seats. 00:24:02.80\00:24:04.51 They wanted the honor of men. 00:24:04.54\00:24:06.64 And if a person wants to be a pastor or a minister so that 00:24:06.68\00:24:10.81 they can get a title, well, that's certainly 00:24:10.85\00:24:13.05 the wrong reason. 00:24:13.08\00:24:14.68 But I think it's important to use some terms of respect, you 00:24:14.72\00:24:18.65 know, with our kids. 00:24:18.69\00:24:20.52 When we--when your children are young and they're talking to 00:24:20.56\00:24:22.52 other adults, it's good for them to call Mr. Brown or Mr. Smith, 00:24:22.56\00:24:26.39 we don't have our kids talk to another adult when they're young 00:24:26.43\00:24:29.43 and say, "Hey, Stanley." 00:24:29.46\00:24:31.67 It just doesn't sound right. 00:24:31.70\00:24:33.27 Used to be, you know, you'd address them with more respect. 00:24:33.30\00:24:36.40 And so there's nothing wrong with terms of respect, but we 00:24:36.44\00:24:39.11 shouldn't be craving titles for prestige. 00:24:39.14\00:24:43.11 Jean: You know, I just add a little bit to that, Pastor, 00:24:43.14\00:24:44.85 that, you know, in our church it's interesting. 00:24:44.88\00:24:46.85 We have a weekly bulletin. 00:24:46.88\00:24:48.45 We put together the different positions connected 00:24:48.48\00:24:51.72 with our service. 00:24:51.75\00:24:53.36 And in our bulletin, we don't put titles. 00:24:53.39\00:24:56.73 We don't say "Dr. So-and-so," or "Pastor So-and-so." 00:24:56.76\00:24:59.26 Now, in the back of the bulletin, it mentions who the 00:24:59.29\00:25:00.96 pastors are in the church, but when it comes to the church and 00:25:00.96\00:25:03.93 it comes to worshiping, it is valuable for someone that might 00:25:03.97\00:25:06.87 be visiting to know who the leader of the church is, 00:25:06.90\00:25:09.00 who's the pastor of the church. 00:25:09.04\00:25:10.37 There's nothing wrong with that. 00:25:10.41\00:25:11.71 But as we interact with each other, you know, we try to 00:25:11.74\00:25:14.88 minimize the titles that would sort of--in God's eyes, 00:25:14.91\00:25:19.61 we're all brothers and sisters in Christ. 00:25:19.65\00:25:22.08 And sometimes, the term "Brother So-and-so" you'll hear in the 00:25:22.12\00:25:24.75 church, or "Sister So-and-so," more so than you'll hear a title 00:25:24.79\00:25:28.39 like "Doctor" or some other person. 00:25:28.42\00:25:30.93 Doug: Good question. 00:25:30.96\00:25:32.59 Jean: All right, thank you for your call. 00:25:32.63\00:25:33.93 Next caller that we have is Nel listening in California. 00:25:33.96\00:25:38.17 Nel, welcome. 00:25:38.20\00:25:40.27 Nel: Hi, thank you so much, Pastors. 00:25:40.30\00:25:43.00 My question is in regard to investing. 00:25:43.04\00:25:46.04 I'm a little bit new at it but I know that some of the-- 00:25:46.07\00:25:51.25 somethings like that, if you invest in, like, a--I'm using 00:25:51.28\00:25:55.65 the wrong term, but in a composite manner, some of those 00:25:55.68\00:25:58.85 might contain things that we may not necessarily believe in. 00:25:58.89\00:26:02.66 Like, you might invest in a alcohol company or something 00:26:02.69\00:26:05.86 like that and so if you're doing that, is it a problem 00:26:05.89\00:26:11.60 or do we have to, like, seek different--something else, 00:26:11.63\00:26:15.04 separately seek things to invest in? 00:26:15.07\00:26:16.71 Doug: Right, that's a great question. 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.04 So if you're a Christian and you're going to invest and it is 00:26:18.07\00:26:19.91 appropriate to invest. 00:26:19.94\00:26:21.88 Jesus talked about the unfaithful steward that just 00:26:21.91\00:26:24.75 buried the money and Jesus said, "You could have at least 00:26:24.78\00:26:26.88 put it in the bank." 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.65 Now, when you put your money in a bank, the banks invest 00:26:28.68\00:26:32.49 your money. 00:26:32.52\00:26:33.82 They might invest it in some companies that, you know, 00:26:33.86\00:26:37.19 you might not support. 00:26:37.23\00:26:38.53 It might be in entertainment or an alcohol or tobacco company. 00:26:38.56\00:26:40.90 Usually, that's not all of it, but that might be 00:26:40.93\00:26:43.30 in the bouquet. 00:26:43.33\00:26:44.87 You can't always control what your bank's going to do but, on 00:26:44.90\00:26:47.27 a personal level, stock advisors and financial advisors do tell 00:26:47.30\00:26:52.27 Christians and just anybody with some morals, they might say, 00:26:52.31\00:26:55.61 "I want to invest in a mutual fund that doesn't have the sin 00:26:55.64\00:26:58.98 companies," and sometimes they'll use a term like that. 00:26:59.01\00:27:01.45 It's not investing in, you know, the alcohol or the tobacco or 00:27:01.48\00:27:05.85 some of these other dubious companies. 00:27:05.89\00:27:08.76 People can choose to invest in a sector of just technology or 00:27:08.79\00:27:13.50 something, or medicine or whatever. 00:27:13.53\00:27:15.76 So I think as Christians, you need to be careful not to try to 00:27:15.80\00:27:18.60 exploit companies or make money off companies 00:27:18.63\00:27:21.50 that have--are morally questionable. 00:27:21.54\00:27:25.54 That's a good thing for you to ask. 00:27:25.57\00:27:27.54 You may not always be able to control what your bank does with 00:27:27.58\00:27:29.64 the money. 00:27:29.68\00:27:31.08 That's a different issue, but just like when you go to the 00:27:31.11\00:27:33.31 supermarket and you buy your oranges, they may also sell 00:27:33.35\00:27:36.32 alcohol, but you don't buy the alcohol. 00:27:36.35\00:27:38.59 Hey, we'll be back with more questions, friends. 00:27:38.62\00:27:40.22 Don't go anywhere. 00:27:40.26\00:27:41.76 ¤¤¤ 00:27:41.79\00:27:44.39 announcer: Stay tuned. 00:27:44.43\00:27:45.73 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:45.76\00:27:47.46 female: Life's a curious thing. 00:27:51.87\00:27:53.80 I mean, just when things seem under control, wham, you're hit 00:27:53.84\00:27:57.41 with something new: your marriage, your job, your health. 00:27:57.44\00:28:02.44 You could look to the stars, but they don't have the answers. 00:28:02.48\00:28:06.35 But this does: the Prophecy Study Bible by Amazing Facts. 00:28:06.38\00:28:10.55 Its 27 personal study guides lead you on 00:28:10.59\00:28:13.15 a life-changing journey. 00:28:13.19\00:28:14.86 announcer: Get yours today by calling 800-538-7275 00:28:14.89\00:28:19.59 or visit AFBOOKSTORE.COM. 00:28:19.63\00:28:21.73 ¤¤¤ 00:28:21.76\00:28:31.74 ¤¤¤ 00:28:31.77\00:28:40.38 announcer: You're listening to "Bible Answers Live" where 00:28:40.42\00:28:42.82 every question answered provides a clearer picture of God and His 00:28:42.85\00:28:46.55 plan to save you. 00:28:46.59\00:28:48.42 So what are you waiting for? 00:31:09.33\00:31:14.00 Doug: Yeah, well, I think, as we near the end of time, every 00:31:14.04\00:31:16.91 believer is engaged in sharing the good news. 00:31:16.94\00:31:21.84 I think the key to understanding who the 144,000 are can be found 00:31:21.88\00:31:26.38 in Acts chapter 2. 00:31:26.41\00:31:28.42 In Acts chapter 2 we know that they were--the first thing that 00:31:28.45\00:31:31.49 happens, actually, in Acts chapter 1 is they do a head 00:31:31.52\00:31:34.92 count and they say, "You know, we are short one apostle." 00:31:34.96\00:31:38.46 There were 12. 00:31:38.49\00:31:40.03 Jesus wanted 12, even though there were not 12 tribes of 00:31:40.06\00:31:42.26 Israel left 'cause they'd been scattered. 00:31:42.30\00:31:44.10 He said, "We need 12 apostles." 00:31:44.13\00:31:46.30 And Judas had killed himself, so Peter said, 00:31:46.33\00:31:48.70 "Let's pick a replacement." 00:31:48.74\00:31:50.61 I trust he was led by the Spirit. 00:31:50.64\00:31:53.44 They cast lots, they pick a replacement. 00:31:53.48\00:31:55.34 As soon as they got back to the number 12, the Holy Spirit was 00:31:55.38\00:31:59.41 poured out and there's a great revival. 00:31:59.45\00:32:01.78 Now, the Holy Spirit did not just fall on the 12 apostles 00:32:01.82\00:32:06.05 in the Upper Room. 00:32:06.09\00:32:07.62 It says there were 120 in the Upper Room. 00:32:07.66\00:32:09.49 See, it's 10 times more than just the 12. 00:32:09.52\00:32:11.96 The ones who receive the special filling in the last days 00:32:11.99\00:32:16.03 are not just the 144,000. 00:32:16.06\00:32:18.87 The 144,000 are very much like last-day apostles. 00:32:18.90\00:32:22.44 They have a special work to do, a special calling, and--but 00:32:22.47\00:32:26.88 they're not the only ones saved. 00:32:26.91\00:32:29.34 There's a great multitude that were saved from the preaching of 00:32:29.38\00:32:32.05 the apostles and the disciples in the Upper Room. 00:32:32.08\00:32:34.88 And they were baptized at Pentecost. 00:32:34.92\00:32:36.85 In the last days, the Holy Spirit is going to fall on 00:32:36.89\00:32:39.85 thousands, way beyond just the 144,000, and I think there'll be 00:32:39.89\00:32:45.89 a revival that will sweep the world as it did in the first 00:32:45.93\00:32:48.46 centuries with Christianity. 00:32:48.50\00:32:51.53 And we have a book talks about the subject. 00:32:51.57\00:32:53.47 Jean: That's right. 00:32:53.50\00:32:54.84 It's called "Who Are the 144,000?" 00:32:54.87\00:32:56.30 and we'll be happy to send this to you, Bob, or anyone wanting 00:32:56.34\00:32:58.77 to learn more about that. 00:32:58.81\00:33:00.98 Just before we give the number again, Pastor Doug, just to add 00:33:01.01\00:33:03.11 to that a little bit, you know, he asked about the latter rain. 00:33:03.14\00:33:05.98 There might be some folks who were wondering, "Well, what is 00:33:06.01\00:33:08.05 it talking about, the 'latter rain'?" 00:33:08.08\00:33:10.65 Doug: Yeah, well, in Bible times, they had what they called 00:33:10.69\00:33:14.26 the former rain and the latter rain connected with the harvest. 00:33:14.29\00:33:17.66 They were an agricultural society. 00:33:17.69\00:33:20.16 And they always prayed especially that there'd be this 00:33:20.20\00:33:22.66 good rain that would sprout the seed and then just before the 00:33:22.70\00:33:28.10 harvest, there would be another rain that would help it to plump 00:33:28.14\00:33:31.01 up before the harvest. 00:33:31.04\00:33:33.71 And in the same way, Jesus scattered the seed of the gospel 00:33:33.74\00:33:37.68 with His 3½ years of ministry. 00:33:37.71\00:33:40.38 Then the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost and you had, 00:33:40.42\00:33:43.35 like, the former rain. 00:33:43.39\00:33:45.15 Before Christ comes to harvest and He pictures Himself 00:33:45.19\00:33:48.52 coming with a sickle in His hand, in Revelation 00:33:48.56\00:33:51.19 the harvest is a symbol. 00:33:51.23\00:33:53.73 There'll be the latter rain of the Holy Spirit to prepare 00:33:53.76\00:33:56.13 the crop of souls. 00:33:56.16\00:33:58.20 So He uses that farming terminology in connection 00:33:58.23\00:34:02.07 with the Second Coming. 00:34:02.10\00:34:03.47 Jean: Okay, the book that we mentioned, it's called 00:34:03.51\00:34:05.17 "Who Will Sing the Song? 00:34:05.21\00:34:06.61 Understanding the 144,000," and that is for free. 00:34:06.64\00:34:09.91 We'll send it to anyone in the US or in Canada. 00:34:09.94\00:34:12.28 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747 and you can ask for 00:34:12.31\00:34:16.79 the book, "Who Will Sing the Song? 00:34:16.82\00:34:19.05 Understanding the 144,000." 00:34:19.09\00:34:21.56 Or you can just dial #250 on your phone and say, "Bible 00:34:21.59\00:34:25.23 Answers Live," and then ask for the book about the 144,000. 00:34:25.26\00:34:30.10 Next caller that we have is Kim and he's listening from Iowa. 00:34:30.13\00:34:33.07 Kim, welcome to the program. 00:34:33.10\00:34:35.74 Kim: Thank you. Doug: Oh, Kim is a she. 00:34:35.77\00:34:38.24 Sorry, Kim, there's a couple of different names out there. 00:34:38.27\00:34:39.81 Kim: You're okay. No worries. 00:34:39.84\00:34:42.11 I have a question. 00:34:42.14\00:34:43.45 I had this discussion with a lady that I work with. 00:34:43.48\00:34:45.45 It's 1 Timothy chapter 4, verses 4 and 5, and about unclean 00:34:45.48\00:34:52.72 and clean meats to be eaten, not to be eaten. 00:34:52.75\00:34:55.26 But she claims that the Scripture negates everything. 00:34:55.29\00:34:59.76 Doug: Well, let's read this for our friends 00:34:59.79\00:35:01.13 that are listening. 00:35:01.16\00:35:02.56 If you look in 1 Timothy chapter 4 and I'll read 4 and 5, it 00:35:02.60\00:35:05.90 says: "FOR EVERY CREATURE OF GOD IS GOOD, AND NOTHING TO BE--IS 00:35:05.93\00:35:09.00 TO BE REFUSED, IF IT'S RECEIVED WITH THANKSGIVING: FOR IT IS 00:35:09.04\00:35:12.77 SANCTIFIED BY THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER." 00:35:12.81\00:35:15.28 Now, you need to go back to verse 3, really, where He says 00:35:15.31\00:35:19.38 there'll be this, you know, fallen power in the last days 00:35:19.41\00:35:22.85 that will command people not to marry, all right, 00:35:22.88\00:35:25.79 that's a clue right there. 00:35:25.82\00:35:27.29 There's going to be a religious movement that will tell its 00:35:27.32\00:35:29.06 priests they can't marry. 00:35:29.09\00:35:32.33 Ten seconds, you've got to figure out the answer to that. 00:35:32.36\00:35:34.73 And then it says they'll command people to abstain from foods 00:35:34.76\00:35:38.27 that the Bible says can be eaten because they're sanctified 00:35:38.30\00:35:40.97 by the Word of God. 00:35:41.00\00:35:42.57 Well, they say, like, you can or can't eat fish on a certain day, 00:35:42.60\00:35:45.24 and clean or unclean. 00:35:45.27\00:35:47.04 And so, this is talking about a particular movement 00:35:47.08\00:35:50.78 in the last days. 00:35:50.81\00:35:52.15 Now, when Paul says, "For every creature of God is good, and 00:35:52.18\00:35:55.35 nothing to be refused," there was a big debate in the church 00:35:55.38\00:35:59.15 in Paul's day where the Christians were being told by 00:35:59.19\00:36:04.23 the Jewish believers--these are believers in Christ but they're 00:36:04.26\00:36:06.93 coming from a Jewish background, that they couldn't eat any meat 00:36:06.96\00:36:11.27 that was sold in the Roman-Greek marketplaces because it had been 00:36:11.30\00:36:15.37 offered to idols before it was sacrificed. 00:36:15.40\00:36:18.81 And they said, "You will be participating in idolatry even 00:36:18.84\00:36:22.08 if you buy that chicken that's hanging there in the meat market 00:36:22.11\00:36:25.21 because before they slaughtered the chicken, they did it in 00:36:25.25\00:36:27.12 front of a little idol to some god. 00:36:27.15\00:36:30.82 Well, Paul said, "The idol's nothing if you don't--if that 00:36:30.85\00:36:33.72 doesn't bother your conscience, don't do it. 00:36:33.76\00:36:35.59 If it does bother your conscience, well, just eat 00:36:35.62\00:36:37.66 vegetables and don't eat the meat. 00:36:37.69\00:36:39.79 If it bothers your brother, don't do it." 00:36:39.83\00:36:41.46 There's a big debate in the New Testament about can you eat 00:36:41.50\00:36:44.30 things that were offered to idols? 00:36:44.33\00:36:47.57 And Paul said, "Well, if you're not offering it to an idol and 00:36:47.60\00:36:50.24 you're just buying it in the market, then don't ask any 00:36:50.27\00:36:52.61 questions for conscience sake." 00:36:52.64\00:36:54.61 It's something like today, my wife and I love going 00:36:54.64\00:36:57.08 to a Thai restaurant. 00:36:57.11\00:36:59.11 One of the Thai restaurants we go to, it's got, like, a statue 00:36:59.15\00:37:01.65 of Buddha in there when you walk in. 00:37:01.68\00:37:04.32 Well, that doesn't bother me. 00:37:04.35\00:37:05.72 I'm not going to worship Buddha, and I don't feel like God thinks 00:37:05.75\00:37:07.86 I'm worshiping Buddha by eating there. 00:37:07.89\00:37:10.36 Someone--if I went with a brother and sister and they 00:37:10.39\00:37:12.29 said, "Oh Doug, we can't eat here, there's a statue of Buddha 00:37:12.33\00:37:14.36 at the entrance." 00:37:14.36\00:37:15.90 I'd say, "All right, well, let's go somewhere else." 00:37:15.93\00:37:17.90 So there was this kind of debate. 00:37:17.93\00:37:19.57 It had nothing to do with the clean meats so much as things 00:37:19.60\00:37:24.11 sacrificed to idols. 00:37:24.14\00:37:26.61 Paul is saying, "Every creature of God is good, and nothing to 00:37:26.64\00:37:30.05 be refused if it's received with thanksgiving." 00:37:30.08\00:37:32.35 He's talking about, "For it is sanctified by the Word of God." 00:37:32.38\00:37:35.98 There are some animals that the Word of God says you can eat. 00:37:36.02\00:37:39.62 They're called clean animals. 00:37:39.65\00:37:41.56 And there are some you cannot eat; they're called unclean. 00:37:41.59\00:37:44.16 It's called an abomination. 00:37:44.19\00:37:46.23 God is not saying that you just pray over anything 00:37:46.26\00:37:48.96 and it becomes clean. 00:37:49.00\00:37:50.90 It's really absurd to think that you tell your children, "I don't 00:37:50.93\00:37:54.54 care what you eat for breakfast; just make sure 00:37:54.57\00:37:56.17 you pray over it." 00:37:56.20\00:37:57.64 No, you know that there's nutritional value and you're 00:37:57.67\00:37:59.91 going to reap what you sow. 00:37:59.94\00:38:01.58 So we have a study guide that we can share and she can give this 00:38:01.61\00:38:06.25 to her friend. 00:38:06.28\00:38:07.58 Jean: The study guide is called "God's Free Health Plan," 00:38:07.62\00:38:10.05 and we'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:38:10.09\00:38:12.39 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:38:12.42\00:38:15.36 Ask for the study guide, "God's Free Health Plan," or dial #250 00:38:15.39\00:38:20.13 on your smartphone and say, "Bible Answers Live," 00:38:20.16\00:38:22.60 and ask for that study guide, "God's Free Health Plan." 00:38:22.63\00:38:26.43 Next caller that we have--thank you, Kim. 00:38:26.47\00:38:28.37 Next caller that we have is Carlos listening in Florida. 00:38:28.40\00:38:30.81 Carlos, welcome to the program. 00:38:30.84\00:38:34.08 Carlos: How are you doing, Pastors? 00:38:34.11\00:38:35.71 Doug: Doing great. Thanks for calling. 00:38:35.74\00:38:40.35 Carlos: So, my question is I'm watching a Joe Crews 00:38:40.38\00:38:46.82 on--sermon here on Sabbath, and so this is in regards to Sabbath 00:38:46.86\00:38:55.13 if it should be kept, because Christians today should keep 00:38:55.16\00:38:58.83 Sabbath or not. 00:38:58.87\00:39:00.57 And he came to a verse that was--he's reading out something 00:39:00.60\00:39:07.94 that Billy Graham wrote and it came to Romans 10:8 through 10, 00:39:07.98\00:39:14.08 but he didn't really read the verse. 00:39:14.12\00:39:15.98 He just kind of kept--I don't think he read the verse, 00:39:16.02\00:39:18.82 anyways. 00:39:18.85\00:39:20.39 I was looking for what the verse in the Bible as he was talking, 00:39:20.42\00:39:25.19 but I couldn't tell if he was really talking--it didn't seem 00:39:25.23\00:39:27.40 like he was speaking Scripture. 00:39:27.46\00:39:28.86 How does that Romans 8 through 10--Romans 10:8 through 10 00:39:28.90\00:39:34.37 relate to keeping of the Sabbath or keeping of the laws? 00:39:34.40\00:39:39.04 Doug: All right, well, first of all, you're talking 00:39:39.07\00:39:41.34 about--and I don't mean to jump in but you're talking about a 00:39:41.38\00:39:45.51 Scripture reference that is given during a sermon 00:39:45.55\00:39:47.55 that you were watching. 00:39:47.58\00:39:49.08 Is that correct? 00:39:49.12\00:39:50.55 Carlos: Yes, sir. Doug: All right. 00:39:50.59\00:39:52.22 It is entirely possible, I've done it before, that he 00:39:52.25\00:39:53.76 misquoted the reference or quoted the wrong reference in 00:39:53.79\00:39:56.16 the wrong place. 00:39:56.19\00:39:57.83 So I'll read this for our friends. 00:39:57.86\00:39:59.39 I'm not sure--that could be the problem, but let me read what it 00:39:59.43\00:40:02.93 says here in Romans chapter 10, I think you said, verse 8 00:40:02.96\00:40:06.03 through 10, and it said: "BUT WHAT DOES IT SAY? 00:40:06.07\00:40:10.34 'THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, AND IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART' 00:40:10.37\00:40:13.21 (THAT IS, THE WORD OF FAITH WHICH WE PREACH): 00:40:13.24\00:40:15.41 THAT IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH THE LORD JESUS AND 00:40:15.44\00:40:18.05 IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD HAS RAISED HIM FROM 00:40:18.08\00:40:20.25 THE DEAD, YOU WILL BE SAVED. 00:40:20.28\00:40:21.98 FOR WITH THE HEART ONE BELIEVES UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND WITH THE 00:40:22.02\00:40:24.52 MOUTH CONFESSION IS MADE UNTO SALVATION." 00:40:24.55\00:40:27.36 Now that is a powerful verse that is often used in a person 00:40:27.39\00:40:32.49 accepting Christ and receiving forgiveness 00:40:32.53\00:40:34.40 and righteousness by faith. 00:40:34.46\00:40:36.80 I don't know that I would use that connected with the Sabbath. 00:40:36.83\00:40:40.97 Jean: I think maybe what--and Carlos, if we understand what 00:40:41.00\00:40:44.41 the argument is, I think some people say, "Well, this verse 00:40:44.44\00:40:47.78 says you just need to confess with your mouth and believe in 00:40:47.81\00:40:50.21 your heart, and that's all you have to do. 00:40:50.25\00:40:52.71 You don't have to keep the law. 00:40:52.75\00:40:54.28 You don't have to worry about that. 00:40:54.32\00:40:55.95 Doug: Yeah, but Billy Graham believes you should 00:40:55.98\00:40:57.29 keep the law too. 00:40:57.32\00:40:58.65 Jean: Yeah, which is interesting. 00:40:58.69\00:41:00.06 Carlos: I had a feeling--I had a feeling he was on the 00:41:00.09\00:41:02.76 wrong--made a mistake on the Scripture there, but what he was 00:41:02.79\00:41:05.96 saying was something along the lines of "What should we do now 00:41:05.99\00:41:08.73 that we're living through faith? 00:41:08.76\00:41:10.47 Does it mean that we should just continue to sin or-- 00:41:10.50\00:41:13.13 Doug: That would be Romans chapter 6, "Shall we continue in 00:41:13.17\00:41:17.64 sin that grace might abound, God forbid." 00:41:17.67\00:41:21.98 That, you know what, it's--he may have quoted--it's Romans 00:41:22.01\00:41:24.38 chapter--well, there's two places. 00:41:24.41\00:41:25.91 You've got Romans chapter 6 and you've got Romans chapter 7 00:41:25.95\00:41:29.32 talks about that. 00:41:29.35\00:41:30.65 Let me see, Romans 6, verse 1: "WHAT THEN SHALL WE SAY? 00:41:30.69\00:41:33.49 SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN THAT GRACE MAY ABOUND? 00:41:33.52\00:41:35.69 GOD FORBID. 00:41:35.72\00:41:37.16 CERTAINLY NOT! 00:41:37.19\00:41:38.49 HOW SHALL WE WHO ARE DEAD TO SIN," MEANING LAWLESSNESS, 00:41:38.53\00:41:41.26 "LIVE ANY LONGER IN IT?" 00:41:41.30\00:41:43.03 And-- 00:41:43.06\00:41:44.43 Carlos: Amen, that's the one I was looking for. 00:41:44.47\00:41:45.77 Doug: Yeah, so it may mean--he may have meant 00:41:45.80\00:41:47.14 to quote that one. 00:41:47.17\00:41:48.47 I don't know-- 00:41:48.50\00:41:49.80 Of course, I don't know what sermon you're listening to, 00:41:49.84\00:41:51.14 but can you-- 00:41:51.17\00:41:52.47 Carlos: Do you know the series I'm looking at? 00:41:52.51\00:41:54.04 Doug: No, I get--Joe Crews has preached thousands of 00:41:54.08\00:41:57.78 sermons so don't quiz me on that. 00:41:57.81\00:42:00.12 I have no idea which one you're listening to. 00:42:00.15\00:42:03.05 Jean: Hopefully that helps, Carlos. 00:42:03.08\00:42:04.59 Carlos: -- you said about the Sabbath and, yes, 00:42:04.62\00:42:06.09 this has helped a lot, actually. 00:42:06.12\00:42:07.99 Doug: All right, good. 00:42:08.02\00:42:09.36 Carlos: So that was Romans 6, right? 00:42:09.39\00:42:10.69 Doug: Yeah, Romans 6, verse 1, and there's another one in 00:42:10.73\00:42:12.23 Romans 6 too. 00:42:12.26\00:42:14.46 Well, he says, you know, "He that is--he that is dead is 00:42:14.46\00:42:18.50 freed from sin, but," let me see here. 00:42:18.53\00:42:24.21 Yeah, "Do not let sin reign anymore. 00:42:24.24\00:42:25.91 You read all of Romans 6. 00:42:25.94\00:42:27.44 You'll--the whole thing is-- 00:42:27.48\00:42:29.14 Jean: It's all there, yeah. 00:42:29.18\00:42:30.65 Doug: Hey, thanks, Carlos. You know what? 00:42:30.68\00:42:31.98 I would offer Carlos that book, "Does God's Grace 00:42:32.01\00:42:34.35 Blot Out the Law?" 00:42:34.38\00:42:35.68 Jean: It's an excellent book. 00:42:35.72\00:42:37.02 Doug: Because he quotes that there. 00:42:37.05\00:42:38.35 Jean: Again, it's called, "Does God's Grace Blot 00:42:38.39\00:42:39.69 Out the Law?" the number is 800-835-- 00:42:39.72\00:42:41.36 Doug: And that is by Joe Crews. 00:42:41.39\00:42:43.02 Jean: --6747, written by Joe Crews. 00:42:43.06\00:42:45.73 We'll send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:42:45.76\00:42:47.60 You can also dial #250, say "Bible Answers Live," and ask 00:42:47.66\00:42:50.73 for the book, "Does God's Grace Blot Out the Law?" 00:42:50.77\00:42:54.17 Next caller that we have is Cami, listening from California. 00:42:54.20\00:42:56.94 Cami, welcome to the program. 00:42:56.97\00:42:59.41 Cami: Hello, Pastors. Good evening. 00:42:59.44\00:43:01.54 Thank you for taking my call. 00:43:01.58\00:43:02.88 Doug: Yes. 00:43:02.91\00:43:04.21 Cami: So my question this evening is dealing with the 00:43:04.25\00:43:06.92 story about Saul and the witch of Endor in 1 Samuel chapter 28. 00:43:06.95\00:43:14.72 And we get down to the 15th verse, it says: "And Samuel said 00:43:14.76\00:43:19.33 to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up?" 00:43:19.36\00:43:24.20 et cetera, et cetera. 00:43:24.23\00:43:26.37 And so I'm wondering is why does the Word of God say that it was 00:43:26.40\00:43:30.64 Samuel when we know that it wasn't? 00:43:30.67\00:43:36.28 Doug: Well, I think it's just saying through the perspective 00:43:36.31\00:43:39.25 of those that were present that day, this apparition, this 00:43:39.28\00:43:42.08 spirit, said, who she says is, you know, Samuel, says, 00:43:42.12\00:43:46.92 "Why did you disturb me?" 00:43:46.96\00:43:48.79 Now, later, we read that they are the spirits of devils 00:43:48.82\00:43:53.53 working miracles and Satan--then you can read in 2 Corinthians 00:43:53.56\00:43:57.73 chapter 11: "Satan himself can be transformed 00:43:57.77\00:44:01.54 into an angel of light." 00:44:01.57\00:44:04.14 So, if the devil and his angels can transform their selves and 00:44:04.17\00:44:07.74 to create illusions and they're the spirits of devils working 00:44:07.78\00:44:11.28 miracles, and then you can also read in Kings, it talks about 00:44:11.31\00:44:14.92 lying spirits where Micaiah the prophet came before Ahab. 00:44:14.95\00:44:18.72 They said, "There are lying spirits." 00:44:18.75\00:44:20.59 So I think it's pretty--and you've got that other verse 00:44:20.62\00:44:23.49 where it says--consulting a medium. 00:44:23.53\00:44:26.90 Jean: Yeah, 1 Chronicles chapter 10, verse 13, it says: 00:44:26.93\00:44:28.30 "So Saul died for his unfaithfulness in which he 00:44:28.33\00:44:31.80 committed against the Lord because he did not keep the Word 00:44:31.83\00:44:34.14 of the Lord and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. 00:44:34.17\00:44:38.91 So, you know, there it is: a familiar spirit is another term 00:44:38.94\00:44:42.34 that's sometimes used. 00:44:42.38\00:44:44.58 Doug: So I know when you read it, they're just, you know, 00:44:44.61\00:44:47.42 they're saying that this thing, obviously, looked and sounded 00:44:47.45\00:44:49.62 like Samuel or it was impersonating Samuel so that's 00:44:49.65\00:44:52.62 the name that was given to it, but it wasn't really Samuel. 00:44:52.65\00:44:57.46 And I'm looking, it was at Isaiah chapter 8, verse--yeah, 00:44:57.49\00:45:03.73 Isaiah 8:19: "AND WHEN THEY SAY TO YOU, 'SEEK THOSE WHO ARE 00:45:03.77\00:45:08.14 MEDIUMS,'" a medium, supposedly, connects you with the dead 00:45:08.17\00:45:10.81 world, the spirit world. 00:45:10.84\00:45:12.64 "'SEEK THOSE WHO ARE MEDIUMS AND WIZARDS, WHO WHISPER AND 00:45:12.67\00:45:15.38 MUTTER,' SHOULD NOT A PEOPLE SEEK THEIR GOD? 00:45:15.41\00:45:18.55 SHOULD THEY SEEK THE DEAD ON BEHALF OF THE LIVING?" 00:45:18.58\00:45:21.92 And then you read where Solomon says, "The living know they'll 00:45:21.95\00:45:24.15 die, but the dead know nothing." 00:45:24.19\00:45:27.02 So, and then, obviously, does the devil have the ability to 00:45:27.06\00:45:30.69 resurrect dead saints? 00:45:30.73\00:45:32.93 No, only Jesus has. 00:45:32.96\00:45:34.60 He's got the keys of life and death and the Resurrection, so 00:45:34.63\00:45:36.83 by all other counts, it's what you would call the preponderance 00:45:36.87\00:45:42.64 of evidence: this was a satanic impersonator. 00:45:42.67\00:45:49.71 Cami: Right. Doug: Does that make sense? 00:45:49.74\00:45:51.98 Cami: I know that in--it does, and I just wanted to say 00:45:52.01\00:45:54.08 too, before I go, that in verse 14, it says: "And Saul perceived 00:45:54.12\00:46:01.96 that it was Samuel and he stooped with his face to the 00:46:01.99\00:46:06.13 ground and bowed himself." 00:46:06.16\00:46:08.86 And so, realizing that the so-called Samuel did not 00:46:08.90\00:46:13.27 immediately correct him and say, you know, "Don't bow to me. 00:46:13.30\00:46:17.81 You should only bow to the Lord," as an angel would do, we 00:46:17.84\00:46:22.58 know too that that couldn't have been Samuel. 00:46:22.61\00:46:25.98 Doug: Yeah, and you know, when we go--they weren't 00:46:26.01\00:46:29.22 supposed to consult witches because what's happening is 00:46:29.25\00:46:31.42 you're going on enchanted ground. 00:46:31.45\00:46:33.29 You're going on the devil's ground, and then we're wide open 00:46:33.32\00:46:36.42 to deception and that's what happened to Saul. 00:46:36.46\00:46:38.99 And because he went to that witch, and he believed the 00:46:39.03\00:46:42.73 message of the evil spirit, he did get discouraged 00:46:42.76\00:46:46.50 the next day. 00:46:46.53\00:46:48.10 He had no courage to lead his men into battle. 00:46:48.14\00:46:50.17 They lost miserably and he killed himself, committed 00:46:50.21\00:46:53.41 suicide, like Judas. 00:46:53.44\00:46:55.48 So that was a lying spirit. 00:46:55.51\00:46:57.01 We have a whole lesson that talks about the witch of Endor. 00:46:57.05\00:46:59.45 Jean: That's right. 00:46:59.48\00:47:00.95 And you're thinking about the lesson-- 00:47:00.98\00:47:02.75 Doug: In Historicals. Jean: Oh, in Historicals? 00:47:02.78\00:47:04.49 Doug: It's called, yeah, "The Witch of Endor." 00:47:04.52\00:47:05.82 Jean: That's right. 00:47:05.85\00:47:07.16 Now that's available online if you go to the Amazing Facts 00:47:07.19\00:47:08.96 website and just look up the study guide. 00:47:08.99\00:47:10.96 It's called "The Witch of Endor," and it actually goes 00:47:10.99\00:47:13.19 into more detail on the subject. 00:47:13.23\00:47:15.23 Next caller that we have is Linda 00:47:15.26\00:47:16.56 listening in South Carolina. 00:47:16.60\00:47:18.00 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:47:18.03\00:47:21.20 Linda: Hello, guys. How are you? 00:47:21.24\00:47:23.07 Doug: Doing wonderful. Thank you for calling. 00:47:23.10\00:47:26.31 Linda: I have a question about the destruction of 00:47:26.34\00:47:30.15 Jerusalem and the temple. 00:47:30.18\00:47:33.05 What did it signify and what is the sign for us again? 00:47:33.08\00:47:37.92 Is it the drying up of the Euphrates Rivers? 00:47:37.95\00:47:41.96 Doug: All right, that's--you've asked 00:47:41.99\00:47:43.29 the big question. 00:47:43.32\00:47:44.69 First of all, what did it signify, the destruction 00:47:44.73\00:47:46.56 of the temple? 00:47:46.59\00:47:48.10 Well, God instructed the children of Israel to build the 00:47:48.13\00:47:51.60 temple originally, because it's where they learned 00:47:51.63\00:47:54.64 the plan of salvation. 00:47:54.67\00:47:56.27 They had the tabernacle in the wilderness. 00:47:56.30\00:47:58.04 That was a mobile temple that they first built. 00:47:58.07\00:48:01.28 Then David gathered material, and Solomon built a beautiful 00:48:01.31\00:48:04.88 temple that was the biggest and the best of the three. 00:48:04.91\00:48:08.92 Then that was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, and then they 00:48:08.95\00:48:11.89 came back in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah. 00:48:11.92\00:48:13.22 They rebuilt the third temple. 00:48:13.25\00:48:15.62 It was later refurbished by Herod the Great. 00:48:15.66\00:48:18.33 Jesus said, because they did not accept Him, He said, 00:48:18.36\00:48:22.36 "Your house is left unto you desolate. 00:48:22.40\00:48:24.43 There would not be left one stone upon another." 00:48:24.47\00:48:26.97 Christ said, "Destroy this temple made with hands," 00:48:27.00\00:48:28.77 speaking of His body, "and I'll make one without hands," 00:48:28.80\00:48:31.27 the church. 00:48:31.31\00:48:32.54 So when Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn, 00:48:32.57\00:48:36.14 signifying the whole purpose for the earthly temple, 00:48:36.18\00:48:39.01 pointing to Jesus the Lamb of God, was fulfilled. 00:48:39.05\00:48:42.78 And so there is no need to sacrifice lambs anymore because 00:48:42.82\00:48:45.45 Christ is now the real Lamb of God that all that pointed to. 00:48:45.49\00:48:49.12 But they continued with their sacrifices, even after Jesus 00:48:49.16\00:48:51.93 ascended to heaven. 00:48:51.96\00:48:53.63 That temple was destroyed in 70 AD and it's never going to be 00:48:53.66\00:48:59.03 rebuilt again. 00:48:59.07\00:49:00.54 Now the temple is the church. 00:49:00.57\00:49:02.60 The Bible says, "What? 00:49:02.64\00:49:03.94 Don't you know that ye are the temple of God?" 00:49:03.97\00:49:06.71 Christ built a temple and you and I are that temple. 00:49:06.74\00:49:10.31 Peter says, "We are living stones in the temple of God." 00:49:10.35\00:49:13.78 Well, that's actually in Ephesians. 00:49:13.82\00:49:15.68 So, that's what's indicated by the temple 00:49:15.72\00:49:19.82 being destroyed back then. 00:49:19.85\00:49:21.39 The emphasis now in the New Testament is not on the physical 00:49:21.42\00:49:23.73 temple because that kind of takes you to the 00:49:23.76\00:49:25.19 old sacrificial system. 00:49:25.23\00:49:27.03 The emphasis now is on Christ and the church, and Christ is 00:49:27.10\00:49:31.73 ministering before the real temple of God in heaven. 00:49:31.77\00:49:35.40 He is our high priest, and that's in Hebrews chapter 8 and 00:49:35.44\00:49:38.17 9, if I'm not mistaken. 00:49:38.21\00:49:41.41 So, now you asked about the angels and the River Euphrates. 00:49:41.44\00:49:45.01 That's connected with the sixth plague. 00:49:45.05\00:49:48.15 Jean: Were you referring to the drying up of the River 00:49:48.18\00:49:49.65 Euphrates? 00:49:49.68\00:49:51.65 Linda: Yes, is that a symbol for us to leave the cities and 00:49:51.69\00:50:00.36 getting ready for the Coming of the Lord? 00:50:00.40\00:50:03.70 Doug: Well, the physical drying up of the River 00:50:03.73\00:50:05.90 Euphrates, I think, is interesting, but it's not the 00:50:05.93\00:50:08.70 final fulfillment of the sixth plague. 00:50:08.74\00:50:12.17 The sixth plague, well, boy, I'm looking at the clock and 00:50:12.21\00:50:16.14 thinking, "I don't know if I got time to go into--" When the city 00:50:16.18\00:50:18.95 of Babylon fell, back in the days of Daniel, the children of 00:50:18.98\00:50:24.52 Israel were captive in Babylon, they dried up 00:50:24.55\00:50:27.59 the Euphrates River. 00:50:27.62\00:50:28.92 The Persians dried up the Euphrates River, Babylon fell, 00:50:28.96\00:50:31.66 and the Cyrus, the Persian general, let them go back to the 00:50:31.69\00:50:35.36 Promised Land. 00:50:35.40\00:50:36.93 When it says Euphrates is going to dry up, it's talking about 00:50:36.97\00:50:40.40 Babylon falling, ancient spiritual Babylon falling, God's 00:50:40.44\00:50:44.11 people will go to the spiritual Canaan, Promised Land. 00:50:44.14\00:50:48.61 So it is interesting that the literal Euphrates is drying. 00:50:48.64\00:50:51.91 Of course, many rivers in the world are drying right now, just 00:50:51.95\00:50:53.92 because of droughts and war. 00:50:53.95\00:50:57.25 But that--there are signs when we should flee to the cities. 00:50:57.29\00:51:00.29 I've got a book called "Heading for the Hills." 00:51:00.32\00:51:03.39 It's called "The Beginner's Guide to Country Living." 00:51:03.43\00:51:05.26 I talk about what is the sign to flee to the cities. 00:51:05.29\00:51:08.00 You may want to go to Amazing Facts and pick that up. 00:51:08.03\00:51:10.73 Jean: Just go to the Amazing Facts website, just 00:51:10.77\00:51:12.57 AmazingFacts.org, or .com, and type in the name of the book? 00:51:12.60\00:51:17.34 Doug: Called "Heading for the Hills." 00:51:17.37\00:51:18.67 Jean: "Heading for the Hills," and you'll be able 00:51:18.71\00:51:20.01 to learn more about how you can get that book. 00:51:20.04\00:51:21.78 Next caller that we have is Bessie, listening in Wisconsin. 00:51:21.81\00:51:24.18 Bessie, welcome to the program. 00:51:24.21\00:51:26.72 Bessie: Hello. Doug: Hi, Bessie. 00:51:26.75\00:51:29.92 Bessie: Thanks for taking my call. 00:51:29.95\00:51:32.49 I've been working on an article that I was writing and I read 00:51:32.52\00:51:40.76 John 13, verses 34 and 35, and it's talking about the idea of 00:51:40.80\00:51:49.30 loving one another, and the way that it says it, it says it 00:51:49.34\00:51:55.21 twice and I am wondering, it's talking--if it's meaning to say 00:51:55.24\00:52:02.08 to love one another the way that Christ--" 00:52:02.12\00:52:07.96 Doug: Yes. 00:52:07.99\00:52:09.49 Yeah, well, of course, Jesus does want us 00:52:09.52\00:52:11.86 to love one another. 00:52:11.89\00:52:13.40 He said, "By this all men will know you are My disciples by 00:52:13.43\00:52:15.96 your love for one another." 00:52:16.00\00:52:18.70 And you know, Paul says, "Love is the fulfilling of the law. 00:52:18.73\00:52:23.24 If we love our neighbor, we keep those commandments between 00:52:23.27\00:52:26.44 ourselves and our fellow man." 00:52:26.47\00:52:28.88 And yeah, there's no question that that 00:52:28.91\00:52:31.78 is the Great Commandment. 00:52:31.81\00:52:33.62 John, in his first letter, he says, "Beloved, let us love one 00:52:33.65\00:52:38.05 another, for love is of God and everyone who loves 00:52:38.09\00:52:40.66 is born of God. 00:52:40.69\00:52:41.99 He that does not love knows not God, for God is love." 00:52:42.02\00:52:46.96 And so, this was the central theme of the apostle John 00:52:47.00\00:52:51.60 as he highlighted Jesus's teaching on the quintessence 00:52:51.63\00:52:56.00 of Christianity is love. 00:52:56.04\00:52:59.84 And the best way for us to show our love for God 00:52:59.87\00:53:01.68 is by loving each other. 00:53:01.71\00:53:03.51 In the Great Judgment, Jesus is going to say, 00:53:03.55\00:53:06.31 "I was hungry and you fed Me. 00:53:06.35\00:53:07.95 I was thirsty and you gave Me drink." 00:53:07.98\00:53:09.78 And the believers are going, "When did we do these 00:53:09.82\00:53:11.85 things for You?" 00:53:11.89\00:53:13.49 And He says, "Inasmuch as you did it for the least of these, 00:53:13.52\00:53:15.89 you did it for Me." 00:53:15.92\00:53:17.29 So that's the big testing criteria for if our hearts 00:53:17.33\00:53:20.06 are changed. 00:53:20.10\00:53:21.36 Do we love each other? Thank you very much, Bessie. 00:53:21.40\00:53:23.73 And Pastor Ross, we've got 1 minute and 42 left. 00:53:23.77\00:53:27.90 You think we can do something? 00:53:27.94\00:53:29.37 Jean: Yeah, let's go to Barbara in Florida. 00:53:29.40\00:53:31.01 Barbara, welcome to the program. 00:53:31.04\00:53:32.34 We have about a minute and a half. 00:53:32.37\00:53:35.04 Barbara: Hello, good afternoon or good evening, Pastors. 00:53:35.08\00:53:37.55 Doug: Evening. 00:53:37.58\00:53:39.35 Barbara: I just have a question in Revelation 21, also 00:53:39.38\00:53:42.82 in Philippians 3:21, it talks about we having a new body, 00:53:42.85\00:53:48.89 like, a glorious body like Jesus Christ. 00:53:48.92\00:53:51.83 So I'm wondering, since we won't have flesh and blood anymore, we 00:53:51.86\00:53:55.86 want--we will be immortal, so are we not going to be able to 00:53:55.90\00:54:01.64 eat anymore, shower, brush our teeth, get hungry, 00:54:01.67\00:54:06.14 stuff like that? 00:54:06.17\00:54:07.68 Doug: Well, let's talk about that. 00:54:07.71\00:54:09.44 It's Jesus when He rose from the dead, He ate in front of the 00:54:09.48\00:54:11.88 disciples, even though He had a glorified body. 00:54:11.91\00:54:14.55 He said, "Touch Me, feel Me. 00:54:14.58\00:54:16.72 A spirit does not have flesh and bone as you see that I have." 00:54:16.75\00:54:20.49 It tells us in the New Earth we will plant vineyards and eat the 00:54:20.52\00:54:24.03 fruit of them. 00:54:24.06\00:54:25.73 And we will eat from the tree of life. 00:54:25.76\00:54:27.56 So we are definitely going to be real and eating. 00:54:27.60\00:54:31.17 God is not taking away our physical side. 00:54:31.20\00:54:33.34 He is adding a spiritual dimension, so the physical is 00:54:33.37\00:54:37.21 not taken away; the spiritual is added. 00:54:37.24\00:54:39.57 We will still have bodies like Adam and Eve had bodies. 00:54:39.61\00:54:42.38 But we'll be able to see God and talk to angels, and dwell in 00:54:42.41\00:54:46.25 that spirit realm along with the three dimensions we have now. 00:54:46.28\00:54:50.42 So yes, you'll be doing real things. 00:54:50.45\00:54:52.12 Hey, listening friends, we are going to sign off here 00:54:52.15\00:54:54.49 in a moment. 00:54:54.52\00:54:55.82 We do this in two phases. 00:54:55.86\00:54:57.09 We say farewell to our friends listening on satellite radio. 00:54:57.13\00:54:59.39 They're on a different clock. 00:54:59.43\00:55:00.96 But stay tuned, the rest of you, we're coming back for some 00:55:01.00\00:55:03.37 rapid-fire Internet Bible questions in just a moment. 00:55:03.40\00:55:06.70 ¤¤¤ 00:55:06.74\00:55:10.91 announcer: Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:10.94\00:55:13.41 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:13.44\00:55:16.98 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:17.01\00:55:21.22 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:21.25\00:55:25.19 Jean: Hello, friends. 00:55:26.72\00:55:28.02 Welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:28.06\00:55:29.59 And we're going to take some of the email questions 00:55:29.62\00:55:31.56 that you have sent in. 00:55:31.59\00:55:33.13 If you'd like to email us your Bible question, the email 00:55:33.16\00:55:35.96 address is just BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:36.00\00:55:41.04 So Pastor Doug, question number one: "WERE ANIMALS REPRODUCING 00:55:41.07\00:55:45.24 IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN? 00:55:45.27\00:55:46.74 There had to be more than two sheep or goats for God to make 00:55:46.78\00:55:49.54 clothing for the fallen couple." 00:55:49.58\00:55:51.85 And this is coming from Joseph. 00:55:51.88\00:55:53.72 Doug: Yeah, well, you know, as soon as God made Adam and 00:55:53.75\00:55:56.18 Eve, He told them to be fruitful and multiply and I'm sure the 00:55:56.22\00:55:59.62 other creatures were being fruitful and multiplying. 00:55:59.65\00:56:03.22 We don't know how long it was from the time that God made Adam 00:56:03.26\00:56:06.39 and Eve until they sinned, but keep in mind, sheep, the 00:56:06.43\00:56:11.03 gestation period is not as long as it is for humans. 00:56:11.07\00:56:14.70 So it's very likely that there were already some flocks and 00:56:14.74\00:56:19.51 they had multiplied at that point. 00:56:19.54\00:56:21.54 Jean: Okay, next question that we have. 00:56:21.58\00:56:24.05 Harrison is asking, "WHY DOES THE BIBLE SEEM SO HARD TO 00:56:24.08\00:56:25.91 UNDERSTAND?" 00:56:25.95\00:56:28.42 Doug: Well, you know, it depends 00:56:28.45\00:56:30.62 on where you're coming from. 00:56:30.65\00:56:32.15 For me, it was very hard because I did not grow up with a 00:56:32.19\00:56:35.02 Christian home and biblical context and background. 00:56:35.06\00:56:38.29 I think it's easier for those raised in Christian families, 00:56:38.33\00:56:41.16 that grow up hearing the Bible and hearing the stories and 00:56:41.20\00:56:43.53 hearing preachers explain it. 00:56:43.57\00:56:45.87 For me, when I started reading the Bible and I think the first 00:56:45.90\00:56:48.60 one was, like, King James, no less, I struggled. 00:56:48.64\00:56:51.87 But, like learning any new language, there's a certain 00:56:51.91\00:56:55.18 language so to speak in the way the Bible is written. 00:56:55.21\00:56:57.91 As I read it, I understood more and more. 00:56:57.95\00:56:59.91 Now, it's fairly easy for me to, you know, know what the basic 00:56:59.95\00:57:03.92 context of the Bible is. 00:57:03.95\00:57:05.85 I'd say keep reading, and you will understand it. 00:57:05.89\00:57:08.79 And it's just wonderful, because even those who study the Bible 00:57:08.82\00:57:11.96 for, you know, their whole lives, continue to find more and 00:57:11.99\00:57:15.83 more, it gets deeper and deeper. 00:57:15.86\00:57:17.30 The treasures are fathomless in the Bible. 00:57:17.33\00:57:21.04 Jean: Our next caller is asking, "DO YOU THINK GOD HAS A 00:57:21.07\00:57:23.14 SENSE OF HUMOR?" 00:57:23.17\00:57:24.54 That's from Gala. 00:57:24.57\00:57:25.87 Doug: You know, virtually every emotion that humans have, 00:57:25.91\00:57:28.51 we inherited from God because we're made in His image. 00:57:28.54\00:57:31.61 So people can feel anger. 00:57:31.65\00:57:33.65 The Bible says God has anger. 00:57:33.68\00:57:35.42 People can feel love. 00:57:35.45\00:57:36.85 We learned that from God. 00:57:36.89\00:57:38.82 People can have jealousy. 00:57:38.85\00:57:40.42 God says, "I am a jealous God." 00:57:40.46\00:57:42.76 People laugh. 00:57:42.79\00:57:44.09 The Bible actually says God laughs. 00:57:44.13\00:57:46.49 And I think that the reason that we find certain things ironic or 00:57:46.53\00:57:50.43 humorous is because we've learned that. 00:57:50.47\00:57:54.07 That's something that we're wired from. 00:57:54.10\00:57:55.44 Now, every emotion that God has, He has those emotions perfectly. 00:57:55.47\00:58:00.14 We often corrupt those things, you know? 00:58:00.18\00:58:02.08 We could have wrong wrath, wrong jealousy, and wrong humor. 00:58:02.11\00:58:05.15 God does all things well. 00:58:05.18\00:58:06.98 Hey, listening friends, it's been a delight. 00:58:07.02\00:58:08.62 We look forward to studying His Word with you again next week. 00:58:08.65\00:58:11.32 Check out amazingfacts.org, keep us on the air, and we'll study 00:58:11.35\00:58:15.69 with you again next week. 00:58:15.72\00:58:17.73 announcer: "Bible Answers Live," honest and accurate 00:58:18.63\00:58:21.26 answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:21.30\00:58:23.87
