(cheerful orchestral music) 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.20 - [Announcer] It is the best selling book in history. 00:00:03.20\00:00:05.80 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted. 00:00:05.80\00:00:09.87 And its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.87\00:00:13.84 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.84\00:00:16.61 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.61\00:00:19.95 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," 00:00:19.95\00:00:22.75 providing accurate and practical answers 00:00:22.75\00:00:25.25 to all your Bible questions. 00:00:25.25\00:00:27.56 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.82\00:00:31.49 To receive any of the Bible resources 00:00:31.49\00:00:33.60 mentioned in this broadcast, 00:00:33.60\00:00:35.16 call 800-835-6747. 00:00:35.16\00:00:39.17 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.17\00:00:44.14 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:45.61\00:00:48.31 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.31\00:00:50.01 - Hello, listening friends. 00:00:50.01\00:00:51.25 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.25\00:00:54.02 Back in June 2005, 00:00:54.02\00:00:56.48 Carolyn Smith from Salt Lake City in Utah 00:00:56.48\00:00:59.32 made headlines after auctioning off her forehead 00:00:59.32\00:01:02.92 as advertising space for $10,000. 00:01:02.92\00:01:06.96 After a media circus, the online casino, goldenpalace.com, 00:01:06.96\00:01:12.00 had a winning bid accepted 00:01:12.80\00:01:14.10 and their casino logo was boldly tattooed on her cranium. 00:01:14.10\00:01:18.31 The tattoo artist tried to talk her out of it, 00:01:18.31\00:01:20.38 but Carolyn insisted. 00:01:20.38\00:01:22.11 The strange stunt is more understandable 00:01:22.11\00:01:24.48 when you realize Smith was trying to raise tuition money 00:01:24.48\00:01:27.25 to send her son to a private school. 00:01:27.25\00:01:29.95 Now, she may have been a desperate soccer mom 00:01:29.95\00:01:31.99 trying to raise money for her school's education, 00:01:31.99\00:01:34.46 but you know, Pastor Ross, 00:01:34.46\00:01:36.16 the Bible talks about a woman in the Book of Revelation 00:01:36.16\00:01:40.26 that has a whole paragraph on her forehead. 00:01:40.26\00:01:43.16 - That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:01:43.16\00:01:44.60 Not just the name of a business, 00:01:44.60\00:01:46.77 but really something very significant 00:01:46.77\00:01:49.00 actually written on her forehead. 00:01:49.00\00:01:50.74 Talks about Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots, 00:01:50.74\00:01:53.07 and the abominations of the Earth. 00:01:53.07\00:01:54.38 So that's quite a bit to fit on the forehead. 00:01:54.38\00:01:56.75 - You know, I remember a few years ago 00:01:56.75\00:01:58.05 we actually produced a video called, 00:01:58.05\00:01:59.71 "The Bride, the Beast and Babylon." 00:01:59.71\00:02:01.12 And our friends can see that online. 00:02:01.12\00:02:03.82 I think one of them, one of the YouTubes, 00:02:03.82\00:02:06.39 has like 3,000,000 hits. 00:02:06.39\00:02:08.09 But we actually had a model 00:02:08.09\00:02:10.39 and we had someone paint in Hebrew characters, 00:02:10.39\00:02:14.23 or maybe it was Greek, 00:02:14.23\00:02:15.93 across her forehead that title 00:02:15.93\00:02:17.67 so that she could replicate 00:02:17.67\00:02:18.80 the woman that you see in Revelation. 00:02:18.80\00:02:21.07 And they did a pretty good job 00:02:21.07\00:02:22.94 but they had to write pretty small 00:02:22.94\00:02:24.97 to get the whole thing there. 00:02:24.97\00:02:25.97 (Pastor Ross laughs) 00:02:25.97\00:02:27.31 Let me tell you what's on her forehead, friends. 00:02:27.31\00:02:28.41 You can read this in Revelation 17:5 and 6. 00:02:28.41\00:02:32.51 And on her forehead, 00:02:32.51\00:02:33.85 speaking of this mysterious woman in Revelation 17, 00:02:33.85\00:02:37.59 on her forehead a name was written: 00:02:37.59\00:02:39.99 Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots 00:02:39.99\00:02:43.09 and Abominations of the Earth. 00:02:43.09\00:02:45.19 That was written on her forehead. 00:02:45.19\00:02:46.70 And I saw the woman 00:02:46.70\00:02:48.26 who was drunk with the blood of the saints 00:02:48.26\00:02:50.70 and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. 00:02:50.70\00:02:53.57 And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. 00:02:53.57\00:02:56.50 That's Revelation 17:5 and 6. 00:02:56.50\00:02:59.51 So what does that mean? 00:02:59.51\00:03:01.08 In the last days, we're gonna see people going around 00:03:01.08\00:03:04.65 and they've got 666 in their forehead, 00:03:04.65\00:03:05.98 or they've got a seal of God in their forehead, 00:03:05.98\00:03:08.98 or they've got Mother of Harlots in their forehead? 00:03:08.98\00:03:13.72 - Well, you know, Pastor Doug, 00:03:13.72\00:03:14.82 it's interesting that like you mentioned, 00:03:14.82\00:03:16.09 it's not just one symbol here. 00:03:16.09\00:03:18.29 You just have the woman with Babylon, 00:03:18.29\00:03:20.60 but the Bible speaks of the forehead, 00:03:20.60\00:03:22.40 talks about the mark of the Beast being in the forehead, 00:03:22.40\00:03:24.97 talks about the seal of God being in the forehead. 00:03:24.97\00:03:27.87 And I think even the Old Testament 00:03:27.87\00:03:29.20 talks about the law of God being in the forehead. 00:03:29.20\00:03:31.64 And that's kind of led to some strange interpretations 00:03:31.64\00:03:34.21 where you have the Orthodox Jews today 00:03:34.21\00:03:36.71 even having little scrolls of the law 00:03:36.71\00:03:39.21 and they put it in the box on the forehead. 00:03:39.21\00:03:40.72 And I'm sure many of our listeners have seen that before. 00:03:40.72\00:03:43.45 - Yeah. 00:03:43.45\00:03:44.25 - But what does that all mean, 00:03:44.25\00:03:45.35 having the law of God in the forehead 00:03:45.35\00:03:46.49 or the mark of the Beast or the seal? 00:03:46.49\00:03:48.79 - Yeah. You know, it's very clearly a symbol. 00:03:48.79\00:03:51.83 We're not gonna see people going around in the last days. 00:03:51.83\00:03:54.36 And Revelation says: 00:03:54.36\00:03:56.00 The redeemed have their Father's name in their forehead. 00:03:56.00\00:03:58.90 I think that's 7:14. 00:03:58.90\00:04:00.70 And you can read in Ezekiel 9 it says that 00:04:00.70\00:04:04.17 those that have this mark in their forehead 00:04:04.17\00:04:06.68 are spared a destruction. 00:04:06.68\00:04:08.81 So that's a good mark. 00:04:08.81\00:04:09.84 You want that one. 00:04:09.84\00:04:11.08 God put a mark on Cain. 00:04:11.08\00:04:12.38 Doesn't say his forehead, but God marked Cain. 00:04:12.38\00:04:14.75 But when you read in Deuteronomy 6, 00:04:15.88\00:04:18.52 after God gives the 10 Commandments, 00:04:18.52\00:04:20.32 He says, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one. 00:04:20.32\00:04:23.83 "Thou shall love the Lord with all thy heart, mind, 00:04:23.83\00:04:25.89 "soul, and strength. 00:04:25.89\00:04:27.00 "And these words that I command you today 00:04:27.00\00:04:29.13 "shall be in your heart." 00:04:29.13\00:04:31.20 Now that's clearly a symbol, the word in our heart. 00:04:31.20\00:04:34.30 He says, "You'll teach them diligently to your children. 00:04:34.30\00:04:36.84 "You talk them when you lay down, when you rise up, 00:04:36.84\00:04:38.91 "when you go out, when you come in." 00:04:38.91\00:04:40.54 Says, "You will bind them for a sign on your hand 00:04:40.54\00:04:44.38 "and they will be frontlets between your eyes." 00:04:44.38\00:04:47.32 It actually uses that phrase four times in just Exodus 00:04:47.32\00:04:51.12 and Deuteronomy saying: 00:04:51.12\00:04:52.49 The law of God was to be in our hands, 00:04:52.49\00:04:55.32 written in our hands and in our foreheads. 00:04:55.32\00:04:58.09 Well, that's a symbol for in your actions 00:04:58.09\00:05:00.16 and in your thoughts. 00:05:00.16\00:05:01.90 So in Revelation, when it talks about a mark in the forehead 00:05:01.90\00:05:04.50 or the hand, it's not talking about a literal mark. 00:05:04.50\00:05:09.14 Now we've got a lesson I think 00:05:09.14\00:05:10.91 that talks about that woman 00:05:10.91\00:05:12.14 that has that paragraph in her forehead. 00:05:12.14\00:05:13.78 - That's right. 00:05:13.78\00:05:14.88 It's an important symbol that we find 00:05:14.88\00:05:15.68 in the Book of Revelation. 00:05:15.68\00:05:16.48 And we do have a study guide. 00:05:16.48\00:05:17.88 It's called, "The Other Woman," 00:05:17.88\00:05:19.25 'cause in Revelation you have a description of two women, 00:05:19.25\00:05:21.82 one in Revelation 12 and then this woman in Revelation 17. 00:05:21.82\00:05:25.72 If you'd like to learn more about this Bible symbol, 00:05:25.72\00:05:28.12 just call and ask. 00:05:28.12\00:05:29.12 The number is 800-835-6747 00:05:29.12\00:05:32.93 and you can ask for offer number 178 00:05:32.93\00:05:35.03 or ask for it by name. 00:05:35.03\00:05:36.67 It's called, "The Other Woman." 00:05:36.67\00:05:37.80 It's part of the Amazing Fact study guide series. 00:05:37.80\00:05:40.50 And if you've never gone through the study guide series, 00:05:40.50\00:05:42.50 you can also ask for that on the call. 00:05:42.50\00:05:44.34 Just say, "I'd like to enroll in 00:05:44.34\00:05:45.41 "the free Amazing Facts Bible study series." 00:05:45.41\00:05:48.64 You will be blessed. 00:05:48.64\00:05:49.74 We'll send you the lessons in the mail. 00:05:49.74\00:05:51.91 So, Pastor Doug, very great opportunity 00:05:51.91\00:05:54.22 for folks to take advantage of that 00:05:54.22\00:05:55.88 and they can do the whole series of lessons. 00:05:55.88\00:05:58.42 Well, before we go to the phone lines, as we always do, 00:05:58.42\00:06:00.36 we like to start with a word of prayer. 00:06:00.36\00:06:01.99 So we'll do that now. 00:06:01.99\00:06:03.06 Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word. 00:06:03.06\00:06:04.76 We thank You for the opportunity for us to study 00:06:04.76\00:06:06.63 and we always recognize that the Bible is Your book, 00:06:06.63\00:06:09.33 written and inspired by the Holy Spirit, 00:06:09.33\00:06:11.90 and so we do need the Spirit's guidance as we study. 00:06:11.90\00:06:14.60 So pray Your blessing upon us here in the studio 00:06:14.60\00:06:16.97 and be with those who are listening. 00:06:16.97\00:06:18.21 We ask this in Jesus' name, amen. 00:06:18.21\00:06:21.01 - Amen. 00:06:21.01\00:06:22.11 - Our phone lines are open. 00:06:22.11\00:06:23.21 If you have a Bible related question, 00:06:23.21\00:06:24.31 the number to call is 800-463-7297. 00:06:24.31\00:06:28.48 That's 800-GOD-SAYS, 00:06:28.48\00:06:30.02 800-463-7297. 00:06:30.02\00:06:33.89 Our first caller that we have is Dylan 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.56 listening from Nevada. 00:06:35.56\00:06:36.96 Dylan, welcome to the program. 00:06:36.96\00:06:38.89 - [Dylan] Hi guys, I haven't talked to you in a while. 00:06:40.43\00:06:43.70 Last time I believe I talked to you, 00:06:43.70\00:06:46.07 I was talking about a suicide question 00:06:46.07\00:06:49.40 'cause I had a close friend that I used to box with 00:06:49.40\00:06:52.14 that he taught me. 00:06:52.14\00:06:54.38 They were younger than me, they were brothers, 00:06:54.38\00:06:55.91 and one of them committed suicide. 00:06:55.91\00:06:57.21 You guys gave me a good answer. 00:06:57.21\00:06:59.61 I just wanted your opinion 00:06:59.61\00:07:01.15 'cause I kinda feel that I know this, 00:07:01.15\00:07:04.72 but I just wanted your opinion. 00:07:04.72\00:07:06.25 You guys are just awesome soldiers of Christ. 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.99 And that was my question would be in Proverbs 26, 00:07:10.13\00:07:14.30 I believe it was four, in verse five. 00:07:15.33\00:07:17.40 - Is that where it says: 00:07:19.47\00:07:20.97 Answer a fool according to his folly? 00:07:22.47\00:07:23.84 - Yeah, let me read that. I got the verse right here. 00:07:23.84\00:07:25.34 - Okay. Go ahead. 00:07:25.34\00:07:26.17 - It says: 00:07:26.17\00:07:27.24 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, 00:07:27.24\00:07:28.04 lest you also be like him. 00:07:28.04\00:07:30.41 Answer a fool according to his folly, 00:07:30.41\00:07:32.58 lest he be wise in his own eyes. 00:07:32.58\00:07:34.92 - Yeah, Solomon is actually using 00:07:34.92\00:07:36.82 a little bit of irony here. 00:07:36.82\00:07:38.62 He's saying if you don't answer a fool, 00:07:38.62\00:07:42.19 he's wise in his own eyes, he's smug and conceited 00:07:42.19\00:07:44.53 and thinks he's correct because you didn't have an answer. 00:07:44.53\00:07:47.66 But if you do answer him, 00:07:47.66\00:07:49.60 then you sound like him by engaging in a silly question. 00:07:49.60\00:07:54.20 And so what Solomon is saying is 00:07:54.20\00:07:56.67 you can't win if you're in debate with a fool 00:07:56.67\00:08:01.08 because if you take up the debate you sound foolish 00:08:01.08\00:08:04.71 and if you don't take up the debate, he thinks he's right. 00:08:04.71\00:08:06.98 So he said, "You just can't win." 00:08:06.98\00:08:10.42 - [Dylan] Correct. 00:08:10.42\00:08:11.62 - Does that make sense? 00:08:11.62\00:08:13.19 - [Dylan] I mean, so which one is it? 00:08:13.19\00:08:15.99 What is your opinion? 00:08:15.99\00:08:18.13 So don't say anything? 00:08:18.13\00:08:19.46 - He's using a little bit of kinda sanctified sarcasm there. 00:08:19.46\00:08:22.26 He's saying, "If you're arguing with a fool," 00:08:22.26\00:08:25.33 he says, "You're not gonna get anywhere." 00:08:25.33\00:08:26.74 It's like shoveling air. 00:08:26.74\00:08:28.90 If you don't answer a fool, 00:08:28.90\00:08:30.41 if he comes up with some ridiculous claim 00:08:30.41\00:08:32.31 and you don't answer him, he thinks he's right. 00:08:32.31\00:08:35.28 If you do answer him and you engage in a debate with a fool, 00:08:35.28\00:08:38.25 you start sounding foolish. 00:08:38.25\00:08:39.71 Someone said, "You know, 00:08:40.48\00:08:42.52 "if you get into a wrestling match with a pig, 00:08:42.52\00:08:45.45 "you just get dirty." 00:08:45.45\00:08:46.86 You've heard that before. (laughs) 00:08:46.86\00:08:47.69 And the pig enjoys it. 00:08:47.69\00:08:49.92 So it's just like one of those lose-lose situations 00:08:49.92\00:08:54.60 is exactly what Solomon's saying. 00:08:54.60\00:08:56.40 That's why he's got these two contrasting proverbs 00:08:56.40\00:08:58.83 next to each other. 00:08:58.83\00:09:00.27 He's just showing how futile it is to try and communicate, 00:09:00.27\00:09:02.60 make sense to a fool. 00:09:02.60\00:09:04.11 - And you know, Solomon is not trying to give us guidance 00:09:04.11\00:09:07.08 as to how we ought to respond to a fool. 00:09:07.08\00:09:08.81 He's giving characteristics of a fool. 00:09:08.81\00:09:10.95 So a fool is wise in his own thinking 00:09:10.95\00:09:13.38 and if you engage with him, 00:09:13.38\00:09:14.75 it doesn't really help much because then you look foolish. 00:09:14.75\00:09:17.32 So how do you work with a fool? 00:09:17.32\00:09:18.89 And I think that's the point that he's trying to illustrate 00:09:18.89\00:09:21.22 is what foolishness is and what people do, 00:09:21.22\00:09:23.22 what they look like when they are foolish. 00:09:23.22\00:09:25.63 Thank you for your call, Dylan. 00:09:25.63\00:09:26.70 We've got Anthony listening in New York. 00:09:26.70\00:09:28.56 Anthony, you're on the air. 00:09:28.56\00:09:30.30 - [Anthony] Good evening, Pastors. 00:09:30.30\00:09:31.57 - Evening. 00:09:31.57\00:09:32.47 - [Anthony] Pastor Doug, I saw your team 00:09:33.54\00:09:35.27 put out the country living video this past week 00:09:35.27\00:09:39.34 and I- - Oh yeah. 00:09:39.34\00:09:40.44 - [Anthony] I'd watched it before 00:09:40.44\00:09:41.58 and I just decided to watch it again. 00:09:41.58\00:09:43.51 It was a good reminder 00:09:43.51\00:09:44.91 because we just moved out into the country last year 00:09:44.91\00:09:48.48 and it's kind of cool 00:09:48.48\00:09:49.82 because I'm doing some of the things like splitting wood 00:09:49.82\00:09:52.45 and heating my house with it, you know? 00:09:52.45\00:09:54.72 Some of the stuff I watched like three years ago 00:09:54.72\00:09:57.09 when we read your book as well. 00:09:57.09\00:09:58.29 So it was very valuable. 00:09:58.29\00:10:01.50 - Well, praise the Lord. 00:10:01.50\00:10:03.16 It's a couple years old 00:10:03.16\00:10:04.43 but they thought they'd resurrect it and post it again. 00:10:04.43\00:10:06.33 - [Anthony] For sure. Yeah, it was a good reminder. 00:10:06.33\00:10:08.00 - Good. 00:10:08.00\00:10:08.80 How can we help you tonight? 00:10:08.80\00:10:10.51 - [Anthony] I just wanna know 00:10:10.51\00:10:11.57 how to reconcile two different verses 00:10:11.57\00:10:13.71 because I firmly believe in the state of the part, 00:10:13.71\00:10:18.78 the adoption of the state of the dead 00:10:19.88\00:10:21.18 where the dead are asleep until Christ returns 00:10:21.18\00:10:23.95 and resurrects them. 00:10:23.95\00:10:25.32 But sometimes when people try to justify the opposite, 00:10:25.32\00:10:29.86 that you go to Heaven right when you die, 00:10:29.86\00:10:32.13 they use certain verses to justify it. 00:10:32.13\00:10:35.40 So I just want to understand how to reconcile Mark 12:27 00:10:35.40\00:10:39.73 where it says: 00:10:41.50\00:10:43.00 He is not the God of the dead but the God of the living. 00:10:43.00\00:10:47.38 Ye therefore do greatly err. 00:10:47.38\00:10:48.68 And that's in its own context. 00:10:48.68\00:10:51.31 And then that was before Christ died 00:10:51.31\00:10:53.98 and then after Christ died, Romans 14:9 says: 00:10:53.98\00:10:58.25 For to this end Christ both died and rose and revived 00:10:58.25\00:11:02.19 that He might be the Lord, both of the living, 00:11:02.19\00:11:04.73 or both of the dead and the living. 00:11:04.73\00:11:07.30 So I'm just trying to understand how to reconcile those two. 00:11:07.30\00:11:11.40 - Yeah, well good question. 00:11:11.40\00:11:12.83 I don't think there's a conflict there. 00:11:12.83\00:11:14.57 When Jesus talks to the Sadducees and He says that, 00:11:14.57\00:11:18.01 "They err not knowing the scriptures 00:11:18.01\00:11:19.51 "because God says, 00:11:19.51\00:11:20.78 "'I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.' 00:11:20.78\00:11:21.91 "He's not the God of the dead but of the living." 00:11:21.91\00:11:24.88 God would not say He is the God of someone 00:11:24.88\00:11:29.28 or something that has lost all being, 00:11:29.28\00:11:32.52 that they've become nothing, 00:11:32.52\00:11:34.09 they've died and there's no future. 00:11:34.09\00:11:35.99 Believers sleep. 00:11:35.99\00:11:37.93 And when you're asleep you're very much alive. 00:11:37.93\00:11:39.86 And so, but Jesus calls death a sleep. 00:11:39.86\00:11:44.40 And so Paul is really addressing a different issue. 00:11:44.40\00:11:47.77 Paul is saying he's talking about the resurrection, 00:11:47.77\00:11:50.44 those that are in their graves, 00:11:50.44\00:11:51.94 he's assuring people, 00:11:51.94\00:11:53.21 "Don't worry, Jesus is the God of them 00:11:53.21\00:11:55.41 "and He's also the God of those that are alive." 00:11:55.41\00:12:00.12 And I think Paul even has a subtle secondary. 00:12:00.12\00:12:03.59 He talks about people being dead in sin. 00:12:03.59\00:12:06.22 God is the God of those who are dead in sin? 00:12:06.22\00:12:09.09 He's the God of the dead 00:12:09.09\00:12:10.86 who are waiting for the resurrection. 00:12:10.86\00:12:12.83 "Good or evil, he's the God over all," Paul says. 00:12:12.83\00:12:15.90 So I think he's really saying something different. 00:12:15.90\00:12:18.53 That Jesus is the God of dead and living. 00:12:18.53\00:12:22.00 - I think part of the controversy 00:12:22.00\00:12:23.44 that took place between Jesus and the Sadducees, 00:12:23.44\00:12:25.21 the Sadducees didn't believe in a resurrection. 00:12:25.21\00:12:28.21 So Christ is saying, "Well, God is not the God of the dead, 00:12:28.21\00:12:30.81 "but the living," 00:12:30.81\00:12:31.85 meaning that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, 00:12:31.85\00:12:33.92 they're gonna be resurrected. 00:12:33.92\00:12:35.62 Remember the Sadducees didn't believe in that. 00:12:35.62\00:12:37.49 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:12:37.49\00:12:38.79 - So he's not saying that, "There's no hope for the dead." 00:12:38.79\00:12:41.89 But rather they will be resurrected, 00:12:41.89\00:12:43.89 they will live again 00:12:43.89\00:12:45.03 and God is aware of that. 00:12:45.03\00:12:47.13 So the argument used there in Mark 00:12:47.13\00:12:48.93 is really emphasizing the fact that 00:12:48.93\00:12:50.37 there will be a resurrection 00:12:50.37\00:12:52.00 and the righteous will rise again. 00:12:52.00\00:12:54.20 - Yep. Absolutely. 00:12:54.20\00:12:56.50 - All right, hope that helps, Anthony. 00:12:56.50\00:12:57.81 We've got Maylene listening in Florida. 00:12:57.81\00:13:00.48 Maylene, welcome to the program. 00:13:00.48\00:13:02.34 - [Maylene] Hello. 00:13:02.34\00:13:03.18 - Hi. There you are. 00:13:03.18\00:13:04.58 - [Maylene] My question is, 00:13:04.58\00:13:05.81 are the people saved 00:13:05.81\00:13:07.62 who had no opportunity to hear the gospel? 00:13:07.62\00:13:10.45 Like people in China when Jesus was here 00:13:10.45\00:13:12.69 and people now but don't have anybody 00:13:12.69\00:13:15.82 bring the gospel to them? 00:13:15.82\00:13:17.89 - Well, first of all, 00:13:17.89\00:13:19.66 anybody who is saved is saved by Jesus. 00:13:19.66\00:13:22.50 The Bible tells us in Acts 4: 00:13:22.50\00:13:25.00 There is no other name given among men 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.00 whereby we must be saved. 00:13:27.00\00:13:29.00 So anyone who's saved is saved by the mercy 00:13:29.00\00:13:31.21 and the grace of Jesus 00:13:31.21\00:13:32.84 and by His sacrifice in their behalf. 00:13:32.84\00:13:35.04 Nobody works their way to Heaven. 00:13:35.04\00:13:37.25 There will be some 00:13:37.25\00:13:38.98 who walked in all the light that they had. 00:13:38.98\00:13:42.75 Paul speaks in Romans 1 about 00:13:42.75\00:13:44.75 the Gentiles who do the things that are in the law 00:13:44.75\00:13:47.42 that's kind of written in their hearts. 00:13:47.42\00:13:49.89 And so some people have listened 00:13:49.89\00:13:51.19 to the voice of the Holy Spirit 00:13:51.19\00:13:52.53 or maybe God spoken to them through angels 00:13:52.53\00:13:54.60 and they've followed all they knew of God. 00:13:54.60\00:13:57.30 And Jesus said, "Those that have done good 00:13:57.30\00:13:59.53 "will come forth in the resurrection of life." 00:13:59.53\00:14:02.20 They're not being saved by their works, 00:14:02.20\00:14:03.71 they're still being saved by Christ, 00:14:03.71\00:14:04.84 but they've had no other opportunity. 00:14:04.84\00:14:07.08 And of course a lot of folks 00:14:08.11\00:14:09.21 who are never gonna hear the good news 00:14:09.21\00:14:11.71 will be lost because nobody took them the news. 00:14:11.71\00:14:14.02 And that's unfortunate. 00:14:14.02\00:14:15.65 So can God save people 00:14:15.65\00:14:17.55 who maybe didn't have a missionary go to Australia 00:14:17.55\00:14:20.29 or South America or China? 00:14:20.29\00:14:21.82 Yes, absolutely. 00:14:23.83\00:14:25.39 One example would be 00:14:25.39\00:14:26.93 you can see that God even had a prophet in Mesopotamia 00:14:26.93\00:14:29.96 who was not an Israelite, his name was Balaam. 00:14:29.96\00:14:32.27 And we presume there were others that were God's people. 00:14:32.27\00:14:34.70 Now Balaam, he ended up making some bad mistakes 00:14:34.70\00:14:37.44 but he was called the Prophet of God. 00:14:37.44\00:14:39.47 Prior to that, God was speaking to him. 00:14:39.47\00:14:42.21 And so ostensibly, 00:14:42.21\00:14:43.81 God has got people that He's spoken to around the world, 00:14:43.81\00:14:46.98 but His principle means of communication was through 00:14:46.98\00:14:50.32 Israel, through the Word of God. 00:14:50.32\00:14:52.42 But God is not limited 00:14:52.42\00:14:53.76 so He cannot speak through angels or His Spirit, 00:14:53.76\00:14:56.09 and some people have embraced God through what they had. 00:14:56.09\00:14:59.33 - And of course we have another example, Pastor Doug, 00:14:59.33\00:15:01.06 with the Wise Men that came at the birth of Jesus. 00:15:01.06\00:15:03.26 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:15:03.26\00:15:04.20 - They weren't Jews. 00:15:04.20\00:15:05.30 So based upon what they understood, 00:15:05.30\00:15:06.87 God was leading, guiding them. 00:15:06.87\00:15:09.04 All right, well, thank you for your question Maylene. 00:15:09.04\00:15:10.87 We've got Crystal listening in Michigan. 00:15:10.87\00:15:12.84 Crystal, welcome to the program. 00:15:12.84\00:15:14.51 Hi Cry- - [Crystal] Hello? 00:15:17.71\00:15:18.81 - Yep, you're on the air. 00:15:18.81\00:15:20.42 - [Crystal] Hi. Hi, Pastors. 00:15:20.42\00:15:22.75 So my question is, 00:15:22.75\00:15:24.02 does God only hear the prayers of those who obey Him? 00:15:24.02\00:15:26.99 - Okay, now when you say, "Does God hear the prayers," 00:15:28.36\00:15:31.46 let me just explain that they're different kinds of prayers. 00:15:31.46\00:15:34.86 If a person is praying a prayer of repentance, 00:15:36.30\00:15:39.13 of course it's a disobedient people 00:15:39.13\00:15:41.20 that pray prayers of repentance, 00:15:41.20\00:15:42.97 those prayers are always heard 00:15:42.97\00:15:44.31 whenever you sincerely repent. 00:15:44.31\00:15:45.97 Sometimes we'll offer God our shopping list and say, 00:15:47.38\00:15:49.41 "Lord, we want X, Y, and Z." 00:15:49.41\00:15:52.58 God doesn't guarantee He's gonna answer that prayer. 00:15:52.58\00:15:54.82 The Bible says that 00:15:54.82\00:15:56.32 if we turn away our ear from hearing the law, 00:15:56.32\00:15:59.02 our prayer is an abomination. 00:15:59.02\00:16:01.26 Now, that doesn't mean we have to be sinless 00:16:01.26\00:16:02.92 before God answers our prayers, 00:16:02.92\00:16:04.16 or we'd all be in trouble. 00:16:04.16\00:16:05.63 But we need to pray in the name of Jesus. 00:16:05.63\00:16:07.23 We need to pray with a submissive heart, 00:16:07.23\00:16:09.00 a willingness to obey. 00:16:09.00\00:16:10.70 Where is it? 00:16:10.70\00:16:11.83 In 1 John where it says: 00:16:11.83\00:16:12.87 Whatever things we ask, 00:16:12.87\00:16:14.00 we receive because we keep His commandments 00:16:14.00\00:16:15.90 and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 00:16:15.90\00:16:18.71 So there the New Testament apostle says, 00:16:18.71\00:16:23.38 "There's a connection between whatever we ask. 00:16:23.38\00:16:25.18 "We have confidence God's gonna hear us 00:16:25.18\00:16:27.18 "'cause we're surrendered to Him, 00:16:27.18\00:16:28.25 "we're keeping His commandments." 00:16:28.25\00:16:30.32 - 1 John 3:22. 00:16:30.32\00:16:32.09 - There you go. - Is the verse. 00:16:32.09\00:16:33.59 - So again though, that doesn't mean that He never hears 00:16:33.59\00:16:36.96 the prayers of only the obedient. 00:16:36.96\00:16:39.73 I was just today reading the story of Elijah 00:16:39.73\00:16:43.43 when Elijah ran from Jezebel. 00:16:43.43\00:16:46.07 God never told him to do that. 00:16:46.07\00:16:47.47 He was sort of going the wrong way. 00:16:47.47\00:16:49.80 And God had an angel took care of him and fed him, 00:16:49.80\00:16:52.61 even though he was going the wrong way of his own. 00:16:52.61\00:16:54.91 And so if God stopped providing for us, 00:16:54.91\00:16:57.38 we'd all be done for. 00:16:57.38\00:16:58.65 - And of course, if somebody's sincerely praying 00:16:58.65\00:17:00.52 and asking God for help to keep His commandments. 00:17:00.52\00:17:03.75 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:17:03.75\00:17:04.82 - That kind of prayer, God always hears. 00:17:04.82\00:17:05.89 - [Pastor Doug] Yes. 00:17:05.89\00:17:06.72 - If it's sincere. 00:17:06.72\00:17:07.82 All right, next caller that we have is Richard 00:17:07.82\00:17:09.19 listening in Texas. 00:17:09.19\00:17:10.16 Richard, welcome to the program. 00:17:10.16\00:17:11.83 - [Richard] Hey, thank you guys. 00:17:12.83\00:17:15.00 I have a quick question. 00:17:15.00\00:17:16.70 I came across 1 Timothy 6:10 where it says: 00:17:16.70\00:17:21.37 For the love of money is a root of all kind of evil. 00:17:21.37\00:17:26.07 And I was wondering about this last part of the sentence 00:17:26.07\00:17:29.24 where it says root of all kind of evil. 00:17:29.24\00:17:32.45 And I mean of course in the beginning in our story 00:17:32.45\00:17:35.75 we didn't have money. 00:17:35.75\00:17:37.52 And then how I reconcile this with lust, 00:17:37.52\00:17:41.29 wrath or sloth, for example? 00:17:41.29\00:17:43.06 - Yeah, of course there was evil before money. 00:17:44.16\00:17:46.73 Money goes back pretty far. 00:17:46.73\00:17:48.23 Money, paper money, is different from currency or valuables. 00:17:48.23\00:17:52.40 That's what money is. 00:17:52.40\00:17:53.50 I mean, money used to be the barter system 00:17:53.50\00:17:56.30 and they used to trade gold and silver or valuables. 00:17:56.30\00:17:59.37 When Sampson was gonna pay a debt, 00:17:59.37\00:18:02.01 he was offering clothing 00:18:02.01\00:18:03.31 'cause that was a valuable bartering material. 00:18:04.61\00:18:07.75 So it's really not just a paper money or something, 00:18:07.75\00:18:10.65 but when he says, "Love of money," 00:18:10.65\00:18:12.02 love of possessions, it's love of the power that money has, 00:18:12.02\00:18:15.36 is the root. 00:18:15.36\00:18:16.22 Greed. Jesus was sold for silver. 00:18:16.22\00:18:18.99 You know, it's a sin that connects with many other sins. 00:18:20.63\00:18:25.00 - And I think the root of all evil, 00:18:25.00\00:18:26.10 it's not just talking about an individual 00:18:26.10\00:18:27.67 but I think it's society as a whole. 00:18:27.67\00:18:29.50 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:18:29.50\00:18:30.87 - There's so much wickedness promoted by the love of money. 00:18:30.87\00:18:32.91 You think of crime, 00:18:32.91\00:18:34.04 you think of just the terrible things just- 00:18:34.04\00:18:36.04 - [Pastor Doug] That's what gambling is. 00:18:36.04\00:18:36.85 - Political conflict, gamble. 00:18:36.85\00:18:38.01 - [Pastor Doug] Whatever. 00:18:38.01\00:18:39.28 - All motivated by possessions, and by power, by money. 00:18:39.28\00:18:41.98 So I think that's the connection there. 00:18:41.98\00:18:43.65 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:18:43.65\00:18:44.75 - Okay, next caller that we have is Sherri 00:18:44.75\00:18:46.42 listening in Kentucky. 00:18:46.42\00:18:47.79 Sherri, welcome to the program. 00:18:47.79\00:18:50.09 - [Sherri] Hi. 00:18:50.09\00:18:51.23 - Yeah! 00:18:51.23\00:18:52.09 - [Sherri] I have a weird question. 00:18:53.23\00:18:55.33 I've been reading the Bible 00:18:56.13\00:18:57.53 like from cover to cover for years 00:18:57.53\00:19:01.77 and I can't even count how many times I've done that, 00:19:01.77\00:19:04.11 but I read the Old Testament and the New Testament. 00:19:04.11\00:19:07.91 You know, I'll read two in the Old and two in the New. 00:19:07.91\00:19:11.35 But I've done it so long that I don't feel like- 00:19:11.35\00:19:14.35 I mean, I know the bible and all that, 00:19:14.35\00:19:17.12 but when it says to search the scriptures 00:19:17.12\00:19:19.59 to find yourself approved before the Lord. 00:19:19.59\00:19:21.72 - Mm-hmm. 00:19:21.72\00:19:22.62 - [Sherri] I don't know. 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.13 I mean, I stopped. 00:19:25.13\00:19:26.43 This time I stopped going all the way through 00:19:26.43\00:19:29.66 and I'm only reading, 00:19:29.66\00:19:31.13 like right now I'm in Proverbs 00:19:31.13\00:19:32.67 and I'll read that all the way through. 00:19:32.67\00:19:35.00 Do I just keep doing that? 00:19:35.00\00:19:36.47 Or if I wanna just read the Bible, 00:19:36.47\00:19:41.01 do I just grab a story and just read it? 00:19:41.01\00:19:44.51 I'm really lost in that. 00:19:44.51\00:19:45.75 I don't understand, you know? 00:19:45.75\00:19:47.85 - [Pastor Doug] Well. 00:19:47.85\00:19:48.88 - [Sherri] Do you understand what I mean? 00:19:48.88\00:19:49.95 - I think I know what you're saying. 00:19:49.95\00:19:51.32 The Bible is something like painting a bridge. 00:19:52.42\00:19:55.66 I understand the Golden Gate bridge is so big 00:19:55.66\00:19:58.46 and because it's there exposed to the wind 00:19:58.46\00:20:00.26 and the salt water, 00:20:00.26\00:20:01.60 that they are always painting the bridge. 00:20:01.60\00:20:04.57 They never get done painting the bridge. 00:20:04.57\00:20:06.63 And the bridge always looks good 00:20:08.17\00:20:09.44 because they're always painting it. 00:20:09.44\00:20:11.21 If they should stop painting the bridge, 00:20:11.21\00:20:13.64 it would corrode and eventually rust and fall into the Bay. 00:20:13.64\00:20:17.08 Reading the Bible, you may not know it, 00:20:17.08\00:20:18.98 but it is changing you and it has changed you. 00:20:18.98\00:20:21.68 Heaven forbid you could take a look at 00:20:21.68\00:20:23.15 what you might be like 00:20:23.15\00:20:24.25 if you had not been reading the Bible. 00:20:24.25\00:20:26.52 The Bible tells us that as we read it, 00:20:26.52\00:20:28.42 those principles that teach us about God and holiness 00:20:28.42\00:20:31.26 has a sanctifying influence on our lives. 00:20:31.26\00:20:34.46 And thy Word I've hid in my heart that I might not sin. 00:20:34.46\00:20:37.97 So there's all different methods of reading the Bible. 00:20:37.97\00:20:41.40 And how you should do that, I don't know, 00:20:42.70\00:20:45.41 but I'm sure Pastor Ross could say the same. 00:20:45.41\00:20:47.94 And I've been reading the Bible through for 30 years now 00:20:47.94\00:20:52.58 and I'm always at some point. 00:20:52.58\00:20:54.52 There's only one day a week I don't read the Bible 00:20:54.52\00:20:56.72 and that's because it's usually the Sabbath 00:20:56.72\00:20:59.12 I'm preparing a message 00:20:59.12\00:21:00.72 so I don't do my regular Bible reading. 00:21:00.72\00:21:02.76 And I also use the story in the Bible 00:21:02.76\00:21:04.49 where the manna fell from Heaven six days a week. (laughs) 00:21:04.49\00:21:07.60 But none fell on Sabbath. 00:21:07.60\00:21:10.67 So... 00:21:10.67\00:21:12.20 And I just know so often 00:21:12.20\00:21:14.47 the very thing I need for that day is what I read. 00:21:14.47\00:21:17.47 So I don't know 00:21:17.47\00:21:18.57 if that's answering what you're asking, Sherri. 00:21:18.57\00:21:20.34 - [Sherri] Yeah, it does. 00:21:20.34\00:21:21.68 I do always learn something new when I'm reading it. 00:21:21.68\00:21:24.75 I do. 00:21:24.75\00:21:25.81 It's like every time I go through it, 00:21:25.81\00:21:28.18 it's like I'm learning something different. 00:21:28.18\00:21:30.42 I just don't want to be wrong. 00:21:31.65\00:21:33.36 - You know, one suggestion that I think of, 00:21:33.36\00:21:34.89 I mean I've read a lot of the Bible 00:21:34.89\00:21:36.22 and you read those same stories over and over again 00:21:36.22\00:21:38.29 and there's value just in reading the Bible. 00:21:38.29\00:21:41.06 But one of the things that's kind of fun to do is 00:21:41.06\00:21:43.90 pick a passage of scripture and read it. 00:21:43.90\00:21:46.43 But then also you might wanna get a good concordance 00:21:46.43\00:21:48.94 and dig a little bit deeper. 00:21:48.94\00:21:50.17 Instead of just racing through the verse, 00:21:50.17\00:21:52.21 look at the different words. 00:21:52.21\00:21:53.88 I know one time I really got into it, 00:21:53.88\00:21:55.41 I looked up where these same words in this particular verse 00:21:55.41\00:21:59.28 was used elsewhere in the New Testament 00:21:59.28\00:22:01.35 and it added all kinds of new insight 00:22:01.35\00:22:03.39 in the actual meaning of that word 00:22:03.39\00:22:05.02 when you look at it in that context. 00:22:05.02\00:22:06.29 So you can read the Bible 00:22:06.29\00:22:07.89 but then there's also value in actually studying the Bible. 00:22:07.89\00:22:10.53 And that's where a good concordance 00:22:10.53\00:22:11.93 or a good commentary can just bring a lot of things to light 00:22:11.93\00:22:15.20 that you'd never thought of before you hadn't seen. 00:22:15.20\00:22:17.90 That's maybe something to do as well. 00:22:17.90\00:22:19.83 - So hope that helps a little bit, Sherri. 00:22:20.94\00:22:22.57 And you know, we have a book that talks about 00:22:22.57\00:22:24.97 how you can be strengthened in your Bible study. 00:22:24.97\00:22:28.41 It's called, "The Ultimate Resource." 00:22:28.41\00:22:30.51 - If you'd like to receive that, 00:22:30.51\00:22:31.61 the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:22:31.61\00:22:34.82 The book is called, "The Ultimate Resource." 00:22:34.82\00:22:36.85 We'll be happy to send it to anyone in the US and Canada 00:22:36.85\00:22:40.26 and we'll send it to those of you on the US territories. 00:22:40.26\00:22:43.93 Now if you're outside of the US or outside of Canada, 00:22:43.93\00:22:46.80 you can still find the book 00:22:46.80\00:22:48.26 by just simply going to amazingfacts.org 00:22:48.26\00:22:51.53 and you can read it for free online. 00:22:51.53\00:22:52.93 It's called, "The Ultimate Resource," 00:22:52.93\00:22:54.84 and it's all about the Bible. 00:22:54.84\00:22:56.50 I think you'll be blessed. 00:22:56.50\00:22:57.91 Next caller that we have is Marvin in Canada. 00:22:57.91\00:23:00.78 Marvin, welcome to the program. 00:23:00.78\00:23:02.94 - [Marvin] Hello guys. I'm happy to hear you. 00:23:02.94\00:23:06.58 - Yes! 00:23:06.58\00:23:07.95 - [Marvin] My question is about 2 Corinthians 3:6. 00:23:07.95\00:23:12.12 And I just want to know if you can explain me more 00:23:12.12\00:23:16.39 because I search by myself, I try to understand, 00:23:16.39\00:23:19.49 but sometimes when Paul writes, 00:23:19.49\00:23:22.86 it's sometimes difficult to understand. 00:23:27.00\00:23:29.24 - [Pastor Doug] Mm-hmm. 00:23:29.24\00:23:30.04 - [Marvin] So I just want to, 00:23:30.04\00:23:32.01 if you can explain for me, 2 Corinthians 3:6. 00:23:32.01\00:23:36.04 - All right, I'll do my best. 00:23:36.04\00:23:37.78 Let's read that for our friends. 00:23:37.78\00:23:40.12 Paul is saying, he's talking about, 00:23:40.12\00:23:41.85 the Spirit and not the letter. 00:23:41.85\00:23:43.42 And he says here in verse six: 00:23:43.42\00:23:44.95 Who also made us sufficient 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.69 as ministers of the new covenant, 00:23:46.69\00:23:48.76 not of the letter but of the Spirit. 00:23:48.76\00:23:51.23 For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 00:23:51.23\00:23:54.46 And so if a person is focusing 00:23:54.46\00:23:57.43 on just the exterior obedience of the law, 00:23:57.43\00:24:02.24 that kills because there's no power in that. 00:24:02.24\00:24:05.71 Jesus talked about the law that says do not commit adultery. 00:24:05.71\00:24:09.68 And He said, "Now that's the letter of the law. 00:24:09.68\00:24:11.48 "But the spirit of the law is do not look on a woman 00:24:11.48\00:24:14.38 "or a man and lust in your heart." 00:24:14.38\00:24:17.02 He said that would be the spirit. 00:24:17.02\00:24:18.52 It's not just the action, it's the attitude. 00:24:18.52\00:24:21.52 The letter of the law says, "Do not kill." 00:24:21.52\00:24:24.03 The spirit of the law says, 00:24:24.03\00:24:25.33 "Do not be angry with your brother or sister without cause 00:24:25.33\00:24:28.53 "or you're guilty of murder." 00:24:28.53\00:24:30.53 The letter of the law says, "Don't lie." 00:24:30.53\00:24:33.20 The spirit of the law, Jesus said, 00:24:33.20\00:24:34.64 "Let your yes be yes and your no be no 00:24:34.64\00:24:36.57 "and do not swear by Heaven or anything else." 00:24:36.57\00:24:39.91 And so Christ brought out that 00:24:39.91\00:24:42.64 the true obedience is not just observing the action, 00:24:42.64\00:24:47.72 it's an attitude in the heart. 00:24:48.52\00:24:50.45 And He said, "That's where the real life comes from." 00:24:50.45\00:24:52.72 Is that through love for God, 00:24:52.72\00:24:55.02 we want Him to change our hearts 00:24:55.02\00:24:57.13 so that we don't long for those things. 00:24:57.13\00:24:59.26 We wanna do His will. 00:24:59.26\00:25:00.90 - And when it comes to the apostles, especially Paul, 00:25:00.90\00:25:03.33 Paul didn't have the permission, you might say, 00:25:03.33\00:25:07.10 or the approval of the religious leaders, 00:25:07.10\00:25:10.31 the Jewish religious leaders, 00:25:10.31\00:25:12.27 because he didn't follow their traditions. 00:25:12.27\00:25:14.81 He was motivated and guided by the Spirit of God. 00:25:14.81\00:25:17.85 So when he went on his missionary activity, 00:25:17.85\00:25:19.68 it wasn't as though he came with letters of recommendation 00:25:19.68\00:25:22.38 from the religious counsel in Jerusalem. 00:25:22.38\00:25:24.55 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:25:24.55\00:25:25.95 - He came moved by the Spirit of God by that prophetic gift. 00:25:25.95\00:25:29.69 And Paul does mention that, 00:25:29.69\00:25:31.06 that God called him along with the other apostles 00:25:31.06\00:25:32.93 to preach the gospel and to bring the law into context, 00:25:32.93\00:25:36.67 the 10 Commandments and its relationship to the new covenant 00:25:36.67\00:25:39.83 and not the traditions and the ceremonial law 00:25:39.83\00:25:42.84 that the Jews are saying 00:25:42.84\00:25:43.87 even the Gentile believers had to keep. 00:25:43.87\00:25:46.11 And that was the point of controversy at the time. 00:25:46.11\00:25:48.51 - Yeah, so, so much of what Jesus said, He said, 00:25:48.51\00:25:51.78 "Now don't think I've come to destroy the law of Moses 00:25:51.78\00:25:55.38 "or the prophets. 00:25:55.38\00:25:56.45 "I didn't come to destroy but fulfill." 00:25:56.45\00:25:58.42 He said, "Not one jot or one tittle 00:25:58.42\00:26:00.42 "will in any ways pass from the law until all is fulfilled." 00:26:00.42\00:26:04.23 And so Christ really came to exalt and magnify the law, 00:26:04.23\00:26:07.86 showing not just what the letter said but the spirit of it. 00:26:07.86\00:26:12.30 What the law does on the inside. 00:26:12.30\00:26:13.67 The old covenant is like the law written on stone. 00:26:13.67\00:26:16.27 The new covenant is the law written in the heart. 00:26:16.27\00:26:18.91 - We actually have a study guide called "Written in Stone," 00:26:18.91\00:26:21.61 and it's about the 10 Commandments, about the law of 00:26:21.61\00:26:23.68 God, and we'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls 00:26:23.68\00:26:25.98 and asks. 00:26:25.98\00:26:27.08 That number again is 800-835-6747. 00:26:27.08\00:26:30.55 And you can call and ask for this study guide called 00:26:30.55\00:26:32.79 "Written in Stone." 00:26:32.79\00:26:34.49 And what relationship does the law have to the new covenant? 00:26:34.49\00:26:38.03 You'll be surprised 00:26:38.03\00:26:39.43 if you've never studied out what the Bible says on this 00:26:39.43\00:26:41.96 and we'll be happy to send send it to you 00:26:41.96\00:26:43.10 if you're in Canada or in North America. 00:26:43.10\00:26:45.33 And as we mentioned before, 00:26:45.33\00:26:46.47 if you're outside of North America, 00:26:46.47\00:26:47.47 just go to the Amazing Facts website. 00:26:47.47\00:26:49.40 Just amazingfacts.org. 00:26:49.40\00:26:51.87 - Pastor Ross, what do you think? 00:31:58.61\00:32:00.78 - Yeah. We got a verse here actually, Isaiah 24:23. 00:32:00.78\00:32:04.25 It says this: 00:32:04.25\00:32:05.62 The Moon will be disgraced and the Sun shall be ashamed 00:32:05.62\00:32:08.12 for the Lord of Hosts will reign on Zion 00:32:08.12\00:32:10.63 and in Jerusalem and before His elders gloriously. 00:32:10.63\00:32:14.46 So it's interesting 00:32:14.46\00:32:15.53 we have a reference here in the Old Testament. 00:32:15.53\00:32:16.80 It's talking about the elders. 00:32:16.80\00:32:18.13 Revelation 4 tells us there's 24 of them 00:32:18.13\00:32:21.14 surrounding the throne. 00:32:21.14\00:32:22.80 It could very well be that 00:32:22.80\00:32:24.11 these are the representatives of the unfallen worlds, 00:32:24.11\00:32:26.57 the sons of God that you read about in the Book of Job. 00:32:26.57\00:32:29.81 And Satan came claiming to be the representative of Earth. 00:32:29.81\00:32:33.38 And then you know the story with Job. 00:32:33.38\00:32:34.82 So yeah, 00:32:34.82\00:32:36.02 I think they are representatives of unfallen worlds. 00:32:36.02\00:32:38.92 - [Pastor Doug] Mm-hmm. 00:32:38.92\00:32:39.72 - It's interesting though. 00:32:39.72\00:32:40.82 The reason I mentioned that is in Revelation 4, 00:32:40.82\00:32:42.59 you have a picture of the heavenly throne room. 00:32:42.59\00:32:45.19 Jesus does not appear until Revelation 5. 00:32:45.19\00:32:48.26 And so the 24 elders are there in Heaven 00:32:48.26\00:32:50.87 before Christ actually officially ascends to Heaven, 00:32:50.87\00:32:54.70 and He begins His priestly work. 00:32:54.70\00:32:57.14 Whereas those who are resurrected 00:32:57.14\00:32:58.64 at the time of Christ's resurrection, 00:32:58.64\00:33:00.48 they accompany Jesus to Heaven. 00:33:00.48\00:33:02.61 - That was a good point. 00:33:02.61\00:33:03.71 - They'll be waiting for Him in Heaven. 00:33:03.71\00:33:04.41 - Yeah. 00:33:04.41\00:33:05.21 - So it's maybe another reason 00:33:05.21\00:33:06.55 why we think the 24 elders could be the representatives. 00:33:06.55\00:33:08.55 - Yep. 00:33:08.55\00:33:09.35 - Of these unfallen worlds. 00:33:09.35\00:33:10.02 - Heavenly leaders. 00:33:10.02\00:33:11.12 - All right, well, thank you Mike. 00:33:11.12\00:33:12.99 We got Lois listening from New York. 00:33:12.99\00:33:15.59 - [Pastor Doug] Luis. 00:33:15.59\00:33:16.56 - Is it Luis? 00:33:16.56\00:33:17.39 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:33:17.39\00:33:18.19 - Luis, welcome to the program. 00:33:18.19\00:33:19.53 - [Luis] Goodnight Pastors. I hope you're all well. 00:33:19.53\00:33:22.10 - Evening. 00:33:22.10\00:33:23.20 - [Luis] My question is, 00:33:23.20\00:33:24.30 does the Bible teach you how to preach? 00:33:24.30\00:33:26.53 Not in the sense of like the preaching with our bodies, 00:33:27.90\00:33:32.44 but like the preaching in a church? 00:33:33.41\00:33:36.31 Does that make sense? 00:33:36.31\00:33:37.15 - Yeah. 00:33:37.15\00:33:38.38 I think that the Bible first gives you 00:33:38.38\00:33:40.48 examples of great preachers that you look at 00:33:40.48\00:33:44.62 and it also tells you what their content was. 00:33:44.62\00:33:47.59 So it's telling you what to preach. 00:33:47.59\00:33:48.99 "You preach the Word," is what Paul says. 00:33:48.99\00:33:51.59 And then you can look at the example of how Peter preached, 00:33:51.59\00:33:55.10 how Philip preached, how Paul preached. 00:33:55.10\00:33:58.73 And 00:33:58.73\00:33:59.53 it's like Paul says to Timothy, 00:34:01.34\00:34:02.80 "In season and out of season." 00:34:02.80\00:34:04.67 You might preach to one person like Jesus sitting by a well 00:34:04.67\00:34:08.41 or like Nicodemus at night, 00:34:08.41\00:34:10.45 or you might preach to a multitude on the hillside. 00:34:10.45\00:34:13.72 And it often starts small with your preaching experience 00:34:13.72\00:34:17.75 and then it expands from there. 00:34:17.75\00:34:19.52 But preaching is not, 00:34:19.52\00:34:21.59 it doesn't have to be a complicated science. 00:34:21.59\00:34:24.89 Preaching is basically a form of teaching. 00:34:24.89\00:34:27.76 Now I'm not some people say preaching is when you're ranting 00:34:27.76\00:34:30.17 and raving, yelling and screaming, 00:34:30.17\00:34:31.53 jumping up and down and I'm not that kind of preacher. 00:34:31.53\00:34:34.77 I like to teach more. 00:34:34.77\00:34:36.84 And evangelism I think is a form of teaching too, 00:34:36.84\00:34:40.41 where you're really appealing specifically 00:34:40.41\00:34:42.18 that people accept Christ. 00:34:42.18\00:34:43.38 You're sharing the good news. 00:34:43.38\00:34:45.15 So being pastors and preaching is a gift of the Spirit 00:34:45.15\00:34:50.22 that God gives. 00:34:51.12\00:34:52.75 - And you do have a few verses 00:34:52.75\00:34:54.29 that speak about worshiping in Spirit and in truth. 00:34:54.29\00:34:57.23 And I think that's true of preaching. 00:34:57.23\00:34:58.63 You wanna preach the truth but you want to preach in Spirit, 00:34:58.63\00:35:01.60 meaning that you preach with conviction. 00:35:01.60\00:35:04.27 One of the things that was said about Jesus is that 00:35:04.27\00:35:06.43 He spake not as the scribes and Pharisees, 00:35:06.43\00:35:09.07 but He spake with authority. 00:35:09.07\00:35:10.37 In other words, 00:35:10.37\00:35:11.71 Jesus believed that what He had to say was important 00:35:11.71\00:35:13.64 and that it was the source of life, eternal life. 00:35:13.64\00:35:16.41 So if you wanna be a powerful preacher, 00:35:16.41\00:35:18.21 you wanna make sure that you believe what you are sharing 00:35:18.21\00:35:21.22 and you are living what you're sharing. 00:35:21.22\00:35:23.02 And then you can preach with Spirit and power 00:35:23.02\00:35:26.15 and the truth of God's Word. 00:35:26.15\00:35:27.99 - We've known a lot of evangelists over the years 00:35:27.99\00:35:30.09 and some of them didn't have a lot of formal training, 00:35:30.09\00:35:33.60 but they were very successful 00:35:33.60\00:35:34.93 because they were very sincere and enthusiastic. 00:35:34.93\00:35:39.00 Who was it? 00:35:39.00\00:35:39.80 John Wesley would say that 00:35:39.80\00:35:40.94 he would pray that the Lord would baptize him 00:35:40.94\00:35:44.44 in the kerosene of the Holy Spirit 00:35:44.44\00:35:47.31 and then he'd set himself on fire 00:35:47.31\00:35:50.01 and people would come and watch him burn. 00:35:50.01\00:35:51.55 - Yeah. 00:35:51.55\00:35:52.38 - Something like that. 00:35:52.38\00:35:53.21 - Right. (laughs) 00:35:53.21\00:35:54.68 - So yeah. 00:35:54.68\00:35:55.72 - And there's power in conviction. 00:35:55.72\00:35:57.29 - Yeah. 00:35:57.29\00:35:58.09 - And power in preaching. 00:35:58.09\00:35:58.89 Thank you for your call, Luis. 00:35:58.89\00:36:00.46 We've got Steve listening in Canada. 00:36:00.46\00:36:02.56 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:36:02.56\00:36:04.13 - [Steve] Good evening Pastors. 00:36:05.16\00:36:06.26 Appreciate that you took my call, like always. 00:36:06.26\00:36:09.66 - [Pastor Doug] Mm-hmm. 00:36:09.66\00:36:10.77 - [Steve] I would like to know that Jesus, 00:36:10.77\00:36:12.30 40 days after resurrection here on Earth 00:36:12.30\00:36:14.40 for Mary Magdala, Mary, the disciples, obviously, 00:36:14.40\00:36:18.87 the Devil is not there anymore in the scripture 00:36:20.28\00:36:24.81 because he's in the resurrected, sinless, 00:36:24.81\00:36:28.58 like the fourth place of the new Jerusalem, 00:36:28.58\00:36:31.72 the heavenly kingdom? 00:36:31.72\00:36:33.46 Then the Devil is not part of it. 00:36:33.46\00:36:35.49 That's why he's not there? 00:36:35.49\00:36:37.59 That's why they don't speak about that 00:36:37.59\00:36:38.99 because he had nothing to do in the eternal life anymore? 00:36:38.99\00:36:43.13 He defeated the Devil and He resurrected. 00:36:43.13\00:36:45.60 I assume that would be the answer, 00:36:46.63\00:36:48.40 but I wondered what do you think? 00:36:48.40\00:36:50.24 Thank you very much for your answer and God bless you. 00:36:50.24\00:36:52.27 - Well, just, I wanna make sure I understand your question. 00:36:52.27\00:36:55.21 You're saying the Devil did not appear anymore 00:36:55.21\00:36:57.78 after the resurrection? 00:36:57.78\00:36:59.38 - To tempt Jesus, right? 00:36:59.38\00:37:00.85 Is that the context you're mentioning? 00:37:00.85\00:37:03.45 - [Steve] Yes, yes, yes. Absolutely. Yes. 00:37:03.45\00:37:04.79 - Yeah. 00:37:04.79\00:37:06.15 - [Steve] When He resurrect, you know in the new body, 00:37:06.15\00:37:07.49 after on the cross, after three days, that when He appeared, 00:37:07.49\00:37:12.16 He appeared for His inside believers who believe, 00:37:12.16\00:37:15.13 He wanted to show them that He's alive 00:37:15.13\00:37:19.07 and some had doubt. 00:37:19.07\00:37:20.40 But after the event on the mission to preach the 00:37:20.40\00:37:23.67 truth the world, you know? 00:37:25.81\00:37:27.14 With that scene, right? 00:37:27.14\00:37:28.41 - Yeah. 00:37:28.41\00:37:29.51 - [Steve] Yeah. 00:37:29.51\00:37:30.31 - Well, the Devil, of course, 00:37:30.31\00:37:32.68 he's still alive and well as they say here on Planet Earth. 00:37:34.05\00:37:37.42 And even after the resurrection, 00:37:37.42\00:37:39.75 Satan personally still very involved in deceiving the world. 00:37:39.75\00:37:43.22 You can read in Revelation 12, 00:37:43.22\00:37:45.69 Satan has come down with great wrath 00:37:45.69\00:37:47.86 'cause he knows his time is short. 00:37:47.86\00:37:49.06 That's after the cross. 00:37:49.06\00:37:50.77 And Paul warns us that 00:37:50.77\00:37:52.33 we don't wrestle against flesh and blood, 00:37:52.33\00:37:53.97 but principalities and power, 00:37:53.97\00:37:55.60 Satan being that chief power. 00:37:55.60\00:37:57.71 And I think Paul says in 2 Corinthians 11, 00:37:57.71\00:38:00.21 "Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." 00:38:00.21\00:38:04.55 So the Devil's not omnipresent, you know? 00:38:04.55\00:38:07.05 He focuses his attention 00:38:07.05\00:38:09.15 on probably special objects of attack in the last days. 00:38:09.15\00:38:14.22 But yeah, even after Jesus ascended, 00:38:15.29\00:38:17.63 Satan has, I think, appeared at other times. 00:38:17.63\00:38:19.76 I think Satan, Martin Luther says Satan appeared to him. 00:38:19.76\00:38:22.16 - That's right. (Pastor Doug laughs) 00:38:22.16\00:38:23.26 You know, as far as Jesus goes though 00:38:23.26\00:38:25.00 I think Christ overcame him at the cross. 00:38:25.00\00:38:27.14 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:38:28.04\00:38:29.40 - And Satan lost the battle with reference to Christ. 00:38:29.40\00:38:30.07 Revelation 12 says: 00:38:30.07\00:38:32.04 The man-child was caught up to God and to His throne. 00:38:32.04\00:38:34.34 So that's talking about the resurrection 00:38:34.34\00:38:35.88 and Christ ascending to Heaven. 00:38:35.88\00:38:37.38 But then he turns his fury against the woman or the church. 00:38:37.38\00:38:40.45 Of course, the Devil has been persecuting the church 00:38:40.45\00:38:42.65 throughout the ages. 00:38:42.65\00:38:44.62 But of course, when we get our glorified bodies 00:38:44.62\00:38:47.09 and Jesus comes the second time, 00:38:47.09\00:38:48.86 we are delivered from the Devil. 00:38:48.86\00:38:50.76 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:38:50.76\00:38:51.56 - And he can't tempt us anymore. 00:38:51.56\00:38:52.59 All right. 00:38:53.63\00:38:54.96 Next caller that we have is Kendy listening from Florida. 00:38:54.96\00:38:56.77 Kendy, welcome to the program. 00:38:56.77\00:38:59.07 - [Kendy] Hi Pastors. How are you both? 00:38:59.07\00:39:00.77 - Hi. Good. 00:39:00.77\00:39:02.37 - So my quick question is, 00:39:02.37\00:39:04.34 I've been putting a little bit difficult lately when praying 00:39:04.34\00:39:07.14 sometime not only focusing 00:39:07.14\00:39:08.51 but as far as who should we pray to as far as like 00:39:08.51\00:39:11.01 should I pray to? 00:39:11.01\00:39:12.05 You know, I believe it said: 00:39:12.05\00:39:13.42 Pray to the Father, pray to your Father which is in Heaven 00:39:13.42\00:39:15.88 in the name of Jesus. 00:39:15.88\00:39:17.02 Could you clarify that a little bit 00:39:17.02\00:39:18.15 and how to kinda like avoid 00:39:18.15\00:39:19.52 or kinda like take away that spirit of confusion, I guess? 00:39:19.52\00:39:23.46 I'd appreciate it. Thank you. 00:39:23.46\00:39:24.63 - Yeah. 00:39:24.63\00:39:26.13 Typically in the Bible you'll find that 00:39:26.13\00:39:28.90 they prayed to God the Father in the name of Christ. 00:39:28.90\00:39:31.90 I'm speaking of New Testament times. 00:39:31.90\00:39:33.44 They would pray to God directly in the Old Testament. 00:39:33.44\00:39:38.14 But we know better in the New Testament 00:39:38.14\00:39:39.97 that we're praying in the name of Christ 00:39:39.97\00:39:42.18 'cause He's our mediator, He's the Messiah, the anointed. 00:39:42.18\00:39:45.08 There are a couple of occasions 00:39:46.18\00:39:48.32 where you see someone praying to Jesus. 00:39:48.32\00:39:51.02 There's certainly nothing wrong or sinful. 00:39:51.02\00:39:53.29 The only times I can think of is 00:39:53.29\00:39:55.96 when Stephen is being stoned, he says, 00:39:55.96\00:39:58.33 "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 00:39:58.33\00:40:01.00 And so that's a prayer directed to Jesus. 00:40:01.00\00:40:03.06 Then of course the New Testament, 00:40:03.06\00:40:04.17 the last words in the New Testament, says: 00:40:04.17\00:40:06.57 Even so, come Lord Jesus. 00:40:06.57\00:40:08.60 It's an appeal to Jesus. 00:40:08.60\00:40:10.21 And then it says, "Amen." 00:40:10.21\00:40:12.14 So there may be other places I'm not thinking of, 00:40:12.14\00:40:14.91 but generally they pray to the Father. 00:40:14.91\00:40:17.85 But keep in mind Jesus is sometimes called, like in 00:40:19.21\00:40:22.55 Isaiah, the Everlasting Father, 00:40:22.55\00:40:23.69 'cause all things were made by Him. 00:40:23.69\00:40:25.89 - You know, sometimes the idea is that 00:40:25.89\00:40:28.12 Jesus loves us and understands us 00:40:28.12\00:40:29.92 a little better than the Father 00:40:29.92\00:40:31.33 and so you wanna pray to Jesus if you really want something. 00:40:31.33\00:40:35.00 But Christ Himself said, "The Father loves you." 00:40:35.00\00:40:37.33 And that you can come directly to the Father 00:40:37.33\00:40:39.50 in the name of Jesus. 00:40:39.50\00:40:40.87 But the Father loves the world so much 00:40:40.87\00:40:43.20 that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:40:43.20\00:40:45.61 You know, you get the idea that 00:40:45.61\00:40:46.81 somehow the Father's the angry God, 00:40:46.81\00:40:48.58 Jesus is the compassionate God. 00:40:48.58\00:40:50.05 And so you wanna try and get Him on your side. 00:40:50.05\00:40:53.05 But you can go directly through Christ to the Father. 00:40:53.05\00:40:55.98 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:40:55.98\00:40:57.45 - Because of Christ's sacrifice and He accepts us. 00:40:57.45\00:40:58.95 - Yep. Good point. 00:40:58.95\00:41:00.39 - All right. Thank you for your call. 00:41:00.39\00:41:01.69 We've got Philip listening in Florida as well. 00:41:01.69\00:41:03.89 Philip, welcome to the program. 00:41:03.89\00:41:05.53 - [Philip] Hi. 00:41:06.49\00:41:08.00 In Joshua 20:2 and 3, 00:41:08.00\00:41:12.67 and they're dividing up the land that says 00:41:12.67\00:41:16.47 they should set up cities of refuge 00:41:16.47\00:41:19.87 so that somebody kills somebody accidentally, 00:41:19.87\00:41:22.84 they could run to these cities of refuge 00:41:22.84\00:41:25.91 before the avenger of blood catches them. 00:41:25.91\00:41:30.05 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:41:30.05\00:41:31.12 - [Philip] Who is the avenger of blood? 00:41:31.12\00:41:32.39 - Well, they use an example 00:41:32.39\00:41:34.69 that two men are out in the woods, 00:41:34.69\00:41:36.76 and it just uses one example that I know of, 00:41:36.76\00:41:38.56 two men are out in the woods 00:41:38.56\00:41:39.89 and they're chopping wood together and they're friends. 00:41:39.89\00:41:42.16 And the ax head has not been secured to the ax. 00:41:42.16\00:41:45.30 And while swinging the ax, the ax head flies off. 00:41:45.30\00:41:48.14 I've had that experience before. 00:41:48.14\00:41:49.74 Fortunately, nobody got hurt. 00:41:49.74\00:41:51.61 But it flies off and a person is killed. 00:41:51.61\00:41:54.11 In other words, there's an accidental killing. 00:41:54.11\00:41:57.01 Well, the family shows up and they thought, 00:41:57.01\00:41:58.51 "Oh, maybe you guys had an argument. 00:41:58.51\00:42:00.08 "You killed our husband, our brother," whoever it is. 00:42:00.08\00:42:03.15 The family is called the avenger of blood. 00:42:03.15\00:42:05.65 And so when there's been an accidental murder, 00:42:05.65\00:42:08.62 two men are out there and they're riding their oxcart 00:42:08.62\00:42:10.83 and plowing and one man gets trampled and killed 00:42:10.83\00:42:13.46 and someone says, "Oh, this was done deliberately 00:42:13.46\00:42:15.50 "or it was negligent," 00:42:15.50\00:42:16.77 and they want to take vengeance on the party who really, 00:42:16.77\00:42:19.93 it was not premeditated, it was an accident. 00:42:19.93\00:42:22.77 They are called the avenger of blood. 00:42:22.77\00:42:24.07 They're the family that, usually it's a firstborn son, 00:42:24.07\00:42:28.11 but they're the family that has the right 00:42:28.11\00:42:29.88 to kill this person. 00:42:29.88\00:42:32.31 I think there's a story where a woman of Tekoa 00:42:33.42\00:42:37.02 brings an example to David. 00:42:37.02\00:42:38.42 She had two sons fighting and one killed the other. 00:42:38.42\00:42:41.62 And the family's now saying, 00:42:41.62\00:42:42.89 "You gotta turn over the guilty son so we can kill him." 00:42:42.89\00:42:45.63 She said, "Oh please, I'm a widow. 00:42:45.63\00:42:47.00 "You'll take my only son." 00:42:47.00\00:42:48.96 So family members have the right then 00:42:48.96\00:42:51.20 to execute someone who had been murdered. 00:42:51.20\00:42:54.54 But if they get to a city of refuge, 00:42:54.54\00:42:56.14 they were protected from the avenger of blood, 00:42:56.14\00:42:58.81 the family leader of the offended party. 00:42:58.81\00:43:02.91 I don't know. 00:43:02.91\00:43:03.71 Hopefully that makes sense. 00:43:03.71\00:43:05.05 - There'd still be a trial that would take place, you know? 00:43:05.05\00:43:06.35 It didn't mean that if somebody did it deliberately 00:43:06.35\00:43:09.15 that they'd be off the hook. 00:43:09.15\00:43:10.29 But they could go to the city of refuge, 00:43:10.29\00:43:11.92 they'd have a trial and then it would determine 00:43:11.92\00:43:13.66 their innocence or their guilt at that point. 00:43:13.66\00:43:16.09 All right. 00:43:16.09\00:43:17.19 Well, thank you for your call, Philip. 00:43:17.19\00:43:18.56 We've got, let's see, Thomas is listening in Oklahoma. 00:43:18.56\00:43:20.80 Thomas, welcome to the program. 00:43:20.80\00:43:22.83 - [Thomas] I wanna know the Revelation 19:10 00:43:22.83\00:43:27.90 what's it mean? 00:43:28.44\00:43:30.04 And I fell at his feet to worship him 00:43:30.04\00:43:35.11 and he say unto me, "See that do not. 00:43:36.21\00:43:40.22 "I am the fellow servant 00:43:41.22\00:43:43.52 "and of the brother 00:43:45.85\00:43:47.52 "so they have the testimony of Jesus. 00:43:47.52\00:43:50.46 "Worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit 00:43:50.46\00:43:55.16 "or the prophecy." 00:43:55.16\00:43:56.53 What's it mean to testimony of Jesus 00:43:56.53\00:43:59.10 in the Spirit or the prophecy? 00:43:59.10\00:44:00.90 - Okay, good question. 00:44:00.90\00:44:02.80 If you look in Revelation 12:17, it says: 00:44:02.80\00:44:05.91 The dragon, the Devil, was wroth with a woman. 00:44:05.91\00:44:09.01 And he goes to make war with a remnant of her seed 00:44:09.01\00:44:11.78 that keep the commandments of God 00:44:11.78\00:44:14.28 and have the testimony of Jesus. 00:44:14.28\00:44:16.89 The commandments and the testimony 00:44:16.89\00:44:19.02 is a theme that runs through the Bible. 00:44:19.02\00:44:21.26 It simply means the law and the prophets. 00:44:21.26\00:44:24.39 The testimony of the prophets is what it's talking about. 00:44:25.76\00:44:28.73 And if you look in, I think it's Isaiah 8:16, it says: 00:44:28.73\00:44:32.63 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. 00:44:32.63\00:44:37.54 And then if you look in Isaiah 8:20, it says: 00:44:37.54\00:44:40.48 According to the law and the testimony, 00:44:40.48\00:44:42.64 if they speak not according to this Word, 00:44:42.64\00:44:44.28 there's no light in them. 00:44:44.28\00:44:46.05 The last verses in the Old Testament: 00:44:46.05\00:44:48.68 Remember the law of Moses. 00:44:48.68\00:44:51.05 I send you Elijah, the prophet. 00:44:51.05\00:44:52.89 The law and the prophets, 00:44:52.89\00:44:54.42 the commandments and the testimony. 00:44:54.42\00:44:56.49 So when it says the testimony of Jesus, 00:44:56.49\00:44:58.69 the Spirit of prophecy or the Spirit that led the prophets, 00:44:58.69\00:45:02.80 and so I was talking about the Word of God. 00:45:02.80\00:45:05.33 - Mm-hmm. 00:45:05.33\00:45:06.67 You also have John who wrote the Book of Revelation. 00:45:06.67\00:45:08.47 Obviously, he was a prophet. He had the gift of prophecy. 00:45:08.47\00:45:11.21 And in John 1, he speaks about, actually verse two, 00:45:11.21\00:45:15.04 speaking of himself, he bore witness of the Word of God 00:45:15.04\00:45:17.61 and the testimony of Jesus to all things that he saw. 00:45:17.61\00:45:20.92 So John had the spirit of prophecy 00:45:20.92\00:45:22.62 and he refers to that as the testimony of Jesus. 00:45:22.62\00:45:25.22 Jesus communicates to the prophets through the Spirit. 00:45:25.22\00:45:28.52 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. Good point. 00:45:28.52\00:45:29.89 - And that's His will. That's His testimony that goes out. 00:45:29.89\00:45:31.63 - I never made that connection before. Thank you. 00:45:31.63\00:45:33.80 - Yeah, you're welcome. (laughs) 00:45:33.80\00:45:34.93 - I learn. I'm glad I come to this program. 00:45:34.93\00:45:36.67 - You learn something new every time, right? 00:45:36.67\00:45:38.47 We all do. 00:45:38.47\00:45:39.73 Okay, well, thanks for your call, Thomas. 00:45:39.73\00:45:41.67 Let's see, we got Carol listening in California. 00:45:41.67\00:45:43.87 Carol, welcome to the program. 00:45:43.87\00:45:45.71 - [Carol] Yes. 00:45:45.71\00:45:47.08 My question is going back to the lesson for Thursday, 00:45:47.08\00:45:51.08 November 3. 00:45:51.08\00:45:52.18 I just wanted to clarify regarding. 00:45:52.18\00:45:54.92 It says here: 00:45:55.82\00:45:56.92 Christ did not die just a natural death 00:45:56.92\00:46:00.32 that every human being has to face. 00:46:00.32\00:46:03.83 He died the second death. 00:46:03.83\00:46:05.86 If you could just elaborate or explain further. 00:46:05.86\00:46:09.13 What does it mean that He died the second death 00:46:09.13\00:46:12.83 so that all those who accept Him 00:46:12.83\00:46:15.07 will never have to experience it for themselves? 00:46:15.07\00:46:19.71 I just wanna have a better understanding. 00:46:19.71\00:46:23.01 - Yeah, thank you. 00:46:23.01\00:46:24.35 And I think our question is referring to a lesson in 00:46:24.35\00:46:27.95 what they call a Sabbath School Quarterly. 00:46:27.95\00:46:29.58 It's a quarterly lesson. 00:46:29.58\00:46:31.42 And so this is not a text of scripture, 00:46:31.42\00:46:33.46 but the principle is true. 00:46:33.46\00:46:35.29 And it's simply when you look in Revelation 20, it says: 00:46:35.29\00:46:38.66 The wicked are cast in the Lake of Fire 00:46:38.66\00:46:41.23 and this is the second death. 00:46:41.23\00:46:42.50 The wicked face 00:46:42.50\00:46:43.80 the death from which there is no resurrection. 00:46:43.80\00:46:45.50 It is a hopeless, eternal death. 00:46:45.50\00:46:48.60 And so of course they're cast in the Lake of Fire 00:46:48.60\00:46:51.61 and everyone's punished 00:46:51.61\00:46:52.71 according to what they deserve there. 00:46:52.71\00:46:54.61 Jesus, when He went to the cross, 00:46:54.61\00:46:57.91 He did not experience the death a person, a believer, has 00:46:57.91\00:47:02.25 where they got hope and peace. 00:47:02.25\00:47:03.82 Jesus was experiencing the death, 00:47:03.82\00:47:06.25 the second death that the lost experience. 00:47:06.25\00:47:09.89 And so He just had all the will, all the guilt 00:47:09.89\00:47:13.53 and the shame of the whole world resting on His shoulders. 00:47:13.53\00:47:17.77 He took that in our behalf 00:47:18.57\00:47:21.17 so we don't have to experience the second death. 00:47:21.17\00:47:24.04 So I think, again, I'm answering a question 00:47:24.04\00:47:26.91 that's posed in the Sabbath School Quarterly. 00:47:26.91\00:47:29.81 Some people call them Sunday School lessons, 00:47:29.81\00:47:31.48 but we keep the Sabbath, 00:47:31.48\00:47:32.85 so we call them Sabbath School Quarterlies. 00:47:32.85\00:47:34.72 But it's not actually taken from scripture 00:47:34.72\00:47:37.59 but the principles there. 00:47:37.59\00:47:38.85 - Mm-hmm. 00:47:38.85\00:47:39.95 Now, there is a little difference 00:47:39.95\00:47:41.09 between what Christ died and what the wicked die 00:47:41.09\00:47:44.49 in that Jesus did rise from the dead. 00:47:44.49\00:47:46.39 - Right. They don't. 00:47:46.39\00:47:47.50 - But those who die the second death, 00:47:47.50\00:47:48.56 there's no hope of a resurrection. 00:47:48.56\00:47:49.10 - No. Yeah. 00:47:49.10\00:47:49.90 But when He was facing it, 00:47:49.90\00:47:51.27 He felt the separation from God that the wicked feel. 00:47:51.27\00:47:54.47 - That's right. 00:47:54.47\00:47:55.30 And bore our guilt. 00:47:55.30\00:47:56.14 - Yeah. 00:47:56.14\00:47:57.44 - All right. Well, thanks. Good question Carol. 00:47:57.44\00:47:58.47 We've got Carla listening in Missouri. 00:47:58.47\00:48:01.34 Carla, welcome to the program. 00:48:01.34\00:48:03.58 - [Carla] Hi. 00:48:03.58\00:48:05.01 - Hi. 00:48:05.01\00:48:05.91 - [Carla] I wanna thank you Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross 00:48:07.32\00:48:09.82 for all the Amazing Facts does for prisoners. 00:48:09.82\00:48:12.42 My husband's been doing a prison ministry for over 20 years 00:48:12.42\00:48:15.52 and about six years ago I was able to start going with him. 00:48:15.52\00:48:19.36 And these guys get up like at five o'clock in the morning 00:48:19.36\00:48:21.86 just to listen to Amazing Facts. 00:48:21.86\00:48:23.57 But one of them had a question and I said, 00:48:23.57\00:48:25.70 "I'm gonna call 'Amazing Facts Answers Live' 00:48:25.70\00:48:27.90 "and ask your question for you." 00:48:27.90\00:48:29.37 And they were so excited. 00:48:29.37\00:48:30.54 - Oh good. 00:48:30.54\00:48:31.64 - So his question is, on the Day of Atonement, 00:48:31.64\00:48:34.48 when the High Priest was in the Holy of Holies 00:48:34.48\00:48:38.41 and everyone was supposed to be repentant, 00:48:38.41\00:48:40.45 was everyone always repentant? 00:48:40.45\00:48:42.28 And what happened? 00:48:42.28\00:48:43.69 Or did it ever happen that everyone wasn't repentant 00:48:43.69\00:48:46.52 and the High Priest died? 00:48:46.52\00:48:47.96 - Yeah. 00:48:49.19\00:48:50.29 Well, I don't think it says anywhere that 00:48:50.29\00:48:51.69 if there were some people that were not sincerely repenting, 00:48:51.69\00:48:54.13 the High Priest would die. 00:48:54.13\00:48:55.73 Because if you got a nation with a couple of million people, 00:48:55.73\00:48:58.17 there's probably some that are not sincerely repenting. 00:48:58.17\00:49:01.40 But he was to intercede for the people. 00:49:01.40\00:49:03.37 And even like the intercession of Jesus 00:49:03.37\00:49:06.24 now as our High Priest, there are some that are sincere, 00:49:06.24\00:49:09.68 that are there by faith with Him, 00:49:09.68\00:49:11.08 they're repenting of their sins and wanting victory. 00:49:11.08\00:49:13.88 And there are some who are going through the motions. 00:49:13.88\00:49:16.45 So because Jesus had a Judas in His group, 00:49:16.45\00:49:21.22 Jesus didn't die 00:49:21.22\00:49:22.62 because there was one person there that didn't believe. 00:49:23.99\00:49:27.83 So I don't know if I said that right. 00:49:27.83\00:49:29.86 But help me make sense. 00:49:29.86\00:49:32.40 - Yeah, just to add to that a little bit, Pastor Doug. 00:49:32.40\00:49:34.90 It's interesting when you look at that, 00:49:34.90\00:49:36.47 that on the Day of Atonement, if the High Priest didn't, 00:49:36.47\00:49:40.78 before he went in representing the people, 00:49:40.78\00:49:42.64 he'd have to do a sacrifice for himself. 00:49:42.64\00:49:45.41 If the High Priest was harboring sin in his heart, 00:49:45.41\00:49:47.75 there was the potential that he could be striked down. 00:49:47.75\00:49:49.55 - [Pastor Doug] Right. 00:49:49.55\00:49:50.92 - I don't think we have any record of that ever happening. 00:49:50.92\00:49:52.42 - Yeah, the closest is Eli. 00:49:52.42\00:49:54.46 He kind of gets a judgment afterward. 00:49:54.46\00:49:56.83 - Yes. On his sons because of their wickedness. 00:49:56.83\00:49:58.09 - And then he dies when the ark is taken. 00:49:58.09\00:50:00.83 But yeah, that's true. 00:50:00.83\00:50:03.26 And then not only did they have to do 00:50:04.37\00:50:05.70 a sacrifice for themselves, 00:50:05.70\00:50:06.77 they had to wash, put on fresh garments, 00:50:06.77\00:50:08.84 and so they had to go in like they were pure. 00:50:08.84\00:50:10.81 - [Pastor Ross] Mm-hmm. 00:50:10.81\00:50:11.91 - But I'm thinking about Zachariah 00:50:11.91\00:50:12.94 when he was in the temple kinda interceding 00:50:12.94\00:50:15.38 and he was struck dumb because he didn't believe the angel. 00:50:15.38\00:50:18.58 - That's right. 00:50:18.58\00:50:19.65 - And so, but you know, God's merciful. 00:50:19.65\00:50:21.45 - Yep. Absolutely. 00:50:21.45\00:50:22.72 All right. Well, thank you Carla. 00:50:22.72\00:50:24.12 Hope that helps. 00:50:24.12\00:50:25.12 We've got Ken listening from California. 00:50:25.12\00:50:27.59 Ken, welcome to the program. 00:50:27.59\00:50:29.06 - [Ken] Hello Pastors. Good to speak with you. 00:50:30.56\00:50:33.29 My question concerns Isaiah 66:24. 00:50:34.30\00:50:38.73 I know that fire comes down from Heaven 00:50:39.87\00:50:44.07 to destroy Satan and his angels and those who followed him. 00:50:44.07\00:50:49.04 But Isaiah 66:24 says that 00:50:49.94\00:50:52.68 they will look upon the corpses of the men 00:50:52.68\00:50:55.88 who have transgressed against God. 00:50:55.88\00:50:58.52 And I'm confused as to how this coincides, 00:50:58.52\00:51:03.49 the two pieces coincide together. 00:51:04.56\00:51:05.99 Can you explain that for me? 00:51:05.99\00:51:07.66 - Yeah. 00:51:08.60\00:51:09.93 Well, ultimately, first of all, let's assume the absurd. 00:51:09.93\00:51:12.63 Let's assume this means that after God makes a new Earth 00:51:12.63\00:51:16.77 and we go forth from the new Jerusalem, 00:51:16.77\00:51:19.31 that we're gonna be surrounded with a morgue of corpses 00:51:19.31\00:51:22.98 that are being eaten by worms 00:51:22.98\00:51:25.88 and smoldering with fire. 00:51:25.88\00:51:28.22 Clearly that's not the Heaven anybody sees 00:51:29.32\00:51:32.55 anywhere else in the Bible. 00:51:32.55\00:51:34.46 If you look in Malachi, it says in Malachi 4: 00:51:34.46\00:51:38.59 They shall go forth and tread upon the wicked 00:51:38.59\00:51:41.23 for they are ashes under the souls of their feet. 00:51:41.23\00:51:44.40 And of course, Jesus said, 00:51:44.40\00:51:45.90 "Blessed are the meek, they will inherit the Earth." 00:51:45.90\00:51:47.97 Christ is actually quoting the Old Testament 00:51:47.97\00:51:49.84 when He says that. 00:51:49.84\00:51:51.31 So I think that Isaiah uses a lot of poetic terms, 00:51:51.31\00:51:54.84 especially in that last two chapters. 00:51:54.84\00:51:56.61 He uses a lot of analogies. 00:51:56.61\00:51:59.55 On the ashes of the wicked who have been consumed, 00:51:59.55\00:52:03.49 the fire was not quenched and they have been eaten by worms. 00:52:03.49\00:52:07.29 What happens when worms eat 00:52:07.29\00:52:09.06 and completely consume something? 00:52:10.26\00:52:11.73 It turns back into the elements of Earth. 00:52:11.73\00:52:14.10 God is gonna create a new Heavens and a new Earth. 00:52:14.10\00:52:17.33 And you know, if we could see the history of 00:52:17.33\00:52:19.93 all the soil underneath the farms, 00:52:19.93\00:52:21.60 it would be pretty scary how that soil got there. (laughs) 00:52:21.60\00:52:25.87 But so I think he's just, it says: 00:52:25.87\00:52:29.71 In the new world you're gonna see, 00:52:29.71\00:52:31.48 you're gonna go out and you're gonna look and say, 00:52:31.48\00:52:32.88 "This is what became of those who persecuted God's people." 00:52:32.88\00:52:36.25 But no, 00:52:37.59\00:52:38.95 we're not gonna sit on the walls of the new Jerusalem, 00:52:38.95\00:52:40.42 eat popcorn and watch the wicked burn. 00:52:40.42\00:52:42.69 - Mm-hmm. 00:52:42.69\00:52:44.09 I think also the reference there where it talks about 00:52:44.09\00:52:46.29 the worm and the fires not quenched. 00:52:46.29\00:52:48.46 You know, that has to do somewhat with the sort of the 00:52:48.46\00:52:51.53 dump where they would throw refuge. 00:52:51.53\00:52:53.03 - [Pastor Doug] Gehenna. 00:52:53.03\00:52:54.57 - And it's illustrating the point that the wicked, 00:52:54.57\00:52:57.07 they will be destroyed, 00:52:57.07\00:52:58.07 they'll have no value, 00:52:58.07\00:52:59.17 they'll never live again, 00:52:59.17\00:53:00.71 they'll be considered as something you throw out as 00:53:00.71\00:53:04.78 waste. Not that it's speaking specifically here about worms 00:53:04.78\00:53:07.25 that live eternally gobbling on flesh, 00:53:07.25\00:53:09.82 just like what you say. 00:53:09.82\00:53:10.92 It's symbolic. 00:53:10.92\00:53:11.75 - Yeah. 00:53:11.75\00:53:12.89 I think Christ refers to this when He talks about 00:53:12.89\00:53:15.82 the punishment of the wicked. 00:53:15.82\00:53:16.96 He says, "They'll be thrown to Gehenna." 00:53:16.96\00:53:18.89 That was a Valley of Hinnom, 00:53:18.89\00:53:20.60 which was the city dump outside Jerusalem. 00:53:20.60\00:53:22.80 And He said, "Where the worm does not die. 00:53:22.80\00:53:25.10 - [Both] "And the fire's not quenched." 00:53:25.10\00:53:26.74 - So I think Christ is referring back to Isaiah 66. 00:53:26.74\00:53:30.17 - And just one more quick symbol on that. 00:53:30.17\00:53:31.77 When it talks about the distraction of the wicked 00:53:31.77\00:53:33.34 you read about in Revelation, 00:53:33.34\00:53:34.81 it talks about calling the birds to come 00:53:34.81\00:53:37.11 and they're gonna have a great feast 00:53:37.11\00:53:39.01 and they're gonna feast on the flesh of the dead people. 00:53:39.01\00:53:42.65 And even talks about horses and so on. 00:53:42.65\00:53:44.55 Again, it's symbolic. 00:53:44.55\00:53:45.65 It's talking about a great battle. 00:53:45.65\00:53:47.09 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:53:47.09\00:53:47.89 - And the army is defeated 00:53:47.89\00:53:49.22 and it's talking about the wicked being utterly destroyed 00:53:49.22\00:53:51.43 when that time comes. 00:53:51.43\00:53:52.73 - And I think we have a lesson that talks about 00:53:52.73\00:53:55.30 "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:53:58.47\00:53:59.90 - [Pastor Ross] Mm-hmm. 00:53:59.90\00:54:01.07 - And it goes into some of these verses 00:54:01.07\00:54:02.10 that are difficult passages. 00:54:02.10\00:54:03.71 For anybody out there, 00:54:03.71\00:54:04.97 if you wanna better understand what the Bible teaches 00:54:04.97\00:54:07.04 on the subject of the punishment of the wicked, 00:54:07.04\00:54:09.58 we have a lesson called, "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:54:09.58\00:54:13.42 - The number to call for that is just 800-835-6747. 00:54:13.42\00:54:18.02 And as Pastor Doug mentioned, the study guide is called, 00:54:18.02\00:54:20.16 "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:54:20.16\00:54:22.19 And just filled with all kinds of wonderful Bible verses. 00:54:22.19\00:54:25.06 You know, Pastor Doug, it's interesting. 00:54:25.06\00:54:26.26 Hell is actually good news 00:54:26.26\00:54:28.23 when you look at it from what the Bible says. 00:54:28.23\00:54:30.43 It's not an eternal burning chamber 00:54:30.43\00:54:32.30 where the wicked are gonna suffer throughout all eternity, 00:54:32.30\00:54:36.04 it is a destruction of the wicked. 00:54:36.04\00:54:37.44 There is punishment, but it's good news in that 00:54:37.44\00:54:40.14 God's gonna create a new Heavens and a new Earth 00:54:40.14\00:54:42.74 wherein dwells righteousness. 00:54:42.74\00:54:43.85 - It's an incinerator that purifies the Earth. 00:54:43.85\00:54:46.28 And by the way, if you would like that lesson, 00:54:46.28\00:54:48.58 you've got a mobile phone, you can just text us. 00:54:48.58\00:54:50.75 I think they text pound 250 00:54:50.75\00:54:53.29 and you can get that lesson on, 00:54:53.29\00:54:55.22 "Is the Devil in Charge of Hell?" 00:54:55.22\00:54:56.83 Now Pastor Ross, as we've mentioned before, 00:54:56.83\00:54:59.73 we kind of sign-off "Bible Answers Live" in two phases, 00:54:59.73\00:55:03.33 sort of do it in stereo. 00:55:03.33\00:55:05.03 We say goodbye to our friends listening on satellite. 00:55:05.03\00:55:07.57 But for the rest, we're gonna be back in just a moment 00:55:07.57\00:55:09.87 to take your internet questions that have come in. 00:55:09.87\00:55:12.17 Our two minutes rapid fire internet questions. 00:55:12.17\00:55:14.51 Don't go anyway. 00:55:14.51\00:55:15.61 (cheerful orchestral music) 00:55:15.61\00:55:18.28 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:18.28\00:55:20.92 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:20.92\00:55:24.55 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by 00:55:24.55\00:55:26.69 Amazing Facts International, 00:55:26.69\00:55:28.76 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:28.76\00:55:32.83 - Hello, friends. Welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:34.56\00:55:37.23 We thank you for your email questions that you've sent in. 00:55:37.23\00:55:40.10 If you'd like to send us an email question, 00:55:40.10\00:55:42.54 the email address is BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:42.54\00:55:46.84 Just BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:46.84\00:55:50.61 And Pastor Doug, 00:55:50.61\00:55:51.98 we're gonna see how many of these questions we can answer. 00:55:51.98\00:55:54.28 So Holly from Michigan is asking, 00:55:54.28\00:55:55.95 "Does God truly create some people to be saved? 00:55:55.95\00:55:58.35 "And I guess by default some people to be lost?" 00:55:58.35\00:56:01.72 - Well, the Bible tells us that 00:56:01.72\00:56:03.19 God is not willing that any should perish. 00:56:03.19\00:56:06.53 And if God created some people and said, 00:56:06.53\00:56:09.56 "I predetermined I'm gonna make some creatures 00:56:09.56\00:56:12.20 "and I'm gonna make them so that they will sin 00:56:12.20\00:56:14.67 "and they will be lost and then I'll punish them 00:56:14.67\00:56:16.87 "for doing what I made them to do." 00:56:16.87\00:56:20.34 Well, you think about that, that's kind of outrageous. 00:56:20.34\00:56:22.11 It would almost make God an accomplice to sin 00:56:22.11\00:56:26.28 that He's creating these people that have no option 00:56:26.28\00:56:28.28 but to sin 00:56:28.28\00:56:29.08 and then He's gonna punish them 00:56:29.08\00:56:30.19 for doing what they've been created to do. 00:56:30.19\00:56:32.09 No. 00:56:32.95\00:56:34.36 Folks I think are confusing some passages in the Bible. 00:56:34.36\00:56:38.63 The Bible says God is not willing that any perish. 00:56:38.63\00:56:41.30 Again, in Timothy, Paul says, 00:56:41.30\00:56:44.27 "God who would have all men to be saved." 00:56:44.27\00:56:47.64 And then the Bible closes with an invitation saying: 00:56:47.64\00:56:50.01 Whosoever will, 00:56:50.01\00:56:51.34 let him come and take the water of life freely. 00:56:51.34\00:56:53.58 So people do have a choice to come 00:56:53.58\00:56:56.01 and take that water of life. 00:56:56.01\00:56:57.45 - Okay, another question that we have. 00:56:57.45\00:56:58.55 Renny's asking, "In Matthew 16:19, 00:56:58.55\00:57:02.05 "it talks about the keys of the kingdom. 00:57:02.05\00:57:04.12 "What are the keys of the kingdom?" 00:57:04.12\00:57:05.92 - Well, when we share the gospel, 00:57:07.02\00:57:09.79 we are sharing the door to eternal life. 00:57:09.79\00:57:12.99 So you're giving people the keys to get into that kingdom. 00:57:12.99\00:57:17.30 Talks about Jesus has the key of David. 00:57:17.30\00:57:21.57 And I think where is it? 00:57:21.57\00:57:23.97 In Isaiah it says: 00:57:23.97\00:57:25.24 And the key, the government was on his shoulder. 00:57:25.24\00:57:27.01 They used to keep a key on their shoulder 00:57:27.01\00:57:28.41 and that was a symbol of authority. 00:57:28.41\00:57:30.05 So it's basically saying that 00:57:30.05\00:57:31.15 you've got the avenue of truth with the keys. 00:57:31.15\00:57:35.02 - Which is the gospel. 00:57:35.02\00:57:35.92 - Right. 00:57:35.92\00:57:36.75 - Being preached. 00:57:36.75\00:57:37.85 Okay, last question that we have here. 00:57:37.85\00:57:39.15 Let's see. 00:57:39.15\00:57:39.99 We've got Larry asking, 00:57:39.99\00:57:41.66 "Are there unfallen worlds 00:57:41.66\00:57:43.19 "and did they exist before the creation of Earth?" 00:57:43.19\00:57:46.49 - We know He has angels that He made before the world. 00:57:46.49\00:57:50.10 But you can read in Hebrews, 00:57:50.10\00:57:52.40 I believe it's in chapter two, the first verse, it says: 00:57:52.40\00:57:55.50 God through Christ made the worlds, 00:57:55.50\00:57:58.31 and it's plural there. 00:57:58.31\00:58:00.18 And Revelation talks about all the creatures in Heaven 00:58:00.18\00:58:03.24 that are praising Him. 00:58:03.24\00:58:04.65 So we do believe there are unfallen, sinless worlds. 00:58:04.65\00:58:08.12 Well friends, that uses our time up for this week. 00:58:08.12\00:58:10.32 We're so glad that you tuned in. 00:58:10.32\00:58:12.19 We pray that you will continue to support 00:58:12.19\00:58:14.32 and pray for "Bible Answers Live" and Amazing Facts. 00:58:14.32\00:58:16.93 And check out the website, amazingfacts.org. 00:58:16.93\00:58:20.13 (cheerful orchestral music) 00:58:20.13\00:58:21.13 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:21.13\00:58:22.93 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.93\00:58:26.70
