(epic music) 00:00:00.53\00:00:03.00 - [Announcer] It is the best-selling book in history, 00:00:03.00\00:00:05.60 no volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.74 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.74\00:00:13.71 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.71\00:00:16.44 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.44\00:00:19.78 Welcome to Bible Answers Live, 00:00:19.78\00:00:22.65 providing accurate and practical answers 00:00:22.65\00:00:25.09 to all your Bible questions. 00:00:25.09\00:00:27.36 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.62\00:00:31.36 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.36\00:00:33.50 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747, once again, 00:00:33.50\00:00:38.43 that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.90\00:00:44.24 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:44.24\00:00:48.11 Pastor Doug Bachelor. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.31 - Hello friends, how are you doing? 00:00:50.31\00:00:51.98 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.98\00:00:55.22 In our world, death is a universal fact of life, 00:00:55.22\00:00:58.62 unless you're a jellyfish, 00:00:58.62\00:01:00.99 this has been revealed in a new study by researchers 00:01:00.99\00:01:03.83 at the University of Ovadias in Spain, 00:01:03.83\00:01:07.00 The jellyfish Turritopsis Dohrnii is the only known 00:01:07.00\00:01:12.03 species that appears to be able to rejuvenate repeatedly 00:01:13.17\00:01:14.90 after reproduction, becoming biologically immortal. 00:01:14.90\00:01:19.44 Scientists are hoping its DNA might hold the answer 00:01:19.44\00:01:22.01 to the secret of eternal life. 00:01:22.01\00:01:24.91 Most creatures age because their DNA degrades over time, 00:01:24.91\00:01:28.62 but the T. Dohrnii pulls off an amazing biological feat 00:01:28.62\00:01:32.25 to cheat death. 00:01:32.25\00:01:33.76 Every member of the species is an identical clone, 00:01:33.76\00:01:37.26 and it starts life as a polyp that then matures 00:01:37.26\00:01:40.53 to an organism called a medusa, 00:01:40.53\00:01:42.80 this isn't particularly unique, 00:01:42.80\00:01:44.63 but what's amazing about the T. Dohrnii 00:01:44.63\00:01:46.74 is that if the medusas get injured, sick, or old, 00:01:46.74\00:01:50.77 they become a cyst that turns back into a polyp 00:01:50.77\00:01:53.61 and restarts the whole process, churning out more clones, 00:01:53.61\00:01:58.08 scientists call it lifecycle reversal. 00:01:58.08\00:02:01.12 It'd be something like if a person got old 00:02:01.12\00:02:03.05 and turned back into a fetus, 00:02:03.05\00:02:04.85 or a chicken turned back into an egg. 00:02:04.85\00:02:07.12 Christian scientists have often wondered, 00:02:07.12\00:02:09.89 how can we have eternal bodies in heaven 00:02:09.89\00:02:13.29 like this immortal jellyfish, seems to have been giving us 00:02:13.29\00:02:16.56 some valuable insights on how DNA can repair itself, 00:02:16.56\00:02:20.97 and I think this is fascinating, Pastor Ross, 00:02:20.97\00:02:23.51 I've always wondered, you know, 00:02:23.51\00:02:25.11 doesn't everything grow old? 00:02:25.11\00:02:26.91 And how do we have eternal, glorified bodies, 00:02:26.91\00:02:30.45 bodies that are doing real things? 00:02:30.45\00:02:32.75 Well, this gives us a little insight that, well, 00:02:32.75\00:02:34.45 there's at least one creature down here 00:02:34.45\00:02:36.35 that seems to have DNA that doesn't degrade. 00:02:36.35\00:02:38.95 - It's really remarkable when you think about it. 00:02:38.95\00:02:40.66 So this octopus gets old, or jellyfish gets old, 00:02:40.66\00:02:45.23 and then it figures, "Well, my life's coming to an end, 00:02:45.23\00:02:48.00 so I'm gonna grow this little nodule," 00:02:48.00\00:02:49.80 and from that eventually develops into another octopus 00:02:49.80\00:02:53.07 and has the same DNA, so it's not exactly the same octopus 00:02:53.07\00:02:56.37 that, you know- - The jellyfish. 00:02:56.37\00:02:58.11 - Oh, jellyfish, 00:02:58.11\00:02:59.34 not the exact same one, but nevertheless, 00:02:59.34\00:03:01.11 it's coming from the jellyfish, so it just continues. 00:03:01.11\00:03:05.65 - Yeah. - It's rather interesting. 00:03:05.65\00:03:07.45 - So yeah, I was researching a little bit today 00:03:07.45\00:03:09.52 on what causes aging and the scientists have sort of agreed 00:03:09.52\00:03:12.95 there is no one silver bullet. 00:03:12.95\00:03:14.79 Aging seems to happen because a lot of things 00:03:14.79\00:03:17.33 start to happen at the same time. 00:03:17.33\00:03:19.19 So even if you found a solution for the DNA, 00:03:19.19\00:03:21.70 there's other things and it's like a perfect storm 00:03:21.70\00:03:24.50 as you get older, and I suppose whatever God had 00:03:24.50\00:03:29.00 in that tree of life would have the enzymes 00:03:29.00\00:03:32.87 or whatever it is that we're missing now, 00:03:32.87\00:03:35.11 but we'll have that in heaven, DNA won't grow old 00:03:35.11\00:03:37.71 and we won't grow old. 00:03:37.71\00:03:39.35 You know, there's that promise in Revelation 21:4, 00:03:39.35\00:03:42.28 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, 00:03:42.28\00:03:45.52 and there'll be no more death nor sorrow nor crying, 00:03:45.52\00:03:49.72 neither shall there be any more pain, 00:03:49.72\00:03:51.43 for the former things have passed away," 00:03:51.43\00:03:53.86 a world with no more death. 00:03:53.86\00:03:55.70 - You know, sometimes people hear about heaven 00:03:56.90\00:03:58.43 and they think, "Wow, this place where you live forever 00:03:58.43\00:04:00.40 and everything's perfect, could it really be real?" 00:04:00.40\00:04:03.44 Well, the Bible says it's real, 00:04:03.44\00:04:04.84 it's the home of the redeemed, and we have a book, 00:04:04.84\00:04:07.01 it's called "Heaven, Is It For Real?" 00:04:07.01\00:04:08.98 And this is the free offer, we're happy to send it to anyone 00:04:08.98\00:04:11.28 who would call and ask. 00:04:11.28\00:04:12.38 The number to call is 800-835-6747, 00:04:12.38\00:04:16.35 and you can ask for the study guide. 00:04:16.35\00:04:17.99 It's actually one of our books, not just the study guide, 00:04:17.99\00:04:20.09 it's an actual book, it's called "Heaven, Is It For Real?" 00:04:20.09\00:04:23.32 We'll be happy to send that out to anyone 00:04:23.32\00:04:25.03 who calls and asks. 00:04:25.03\00:04:26.43 Now, we do have listeners that are outside of North America, 00:04:26.43\00:04:28.73 and if you'd like to read the book, 00:04:28.73\00:04:29.83 we encourage you to go to the website, 00:04:29.83\00:04:31.13 just amazingfacts.org, you'll be able to read it there 00:04:31.13\00:04:35.20 on our library at the website. 00:04:35.20\00:04:37.77 - Amen. - Well, pastor, 00:04:37.77\00:04:39.07 we have a number of callers who are lined up, 00:04:39.07\00:04:40.61 so before we get to it though, 00:04:40.61\00:04:42.48 let's start with a word of prayer. 00:04:42.48\00:04:44.08 Dear Father, we want to thank You for the opportunity 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.15 to be able to open Your Word and study. 00:04:46.15\00:04:48.38 Indeed, Lord, Your Word is a lamp to our feet 00:04:48.38\00:04:50.55 and a light to our path, and for us to come to a knowledge 00:04:50.55\00:04:53.66 of the truth is life. 00:04:53.66\00:04:54.69 So we do ask Your blessing upon our time, 00:04:54.69\00:04:56.62 be with those who are listening, wherever they might be, 00:04:56.62\00:04:59.03 in Jesus' name, amen. 00:04:59.03\00:05:01.20 - Amen. 00:05:01.20\00:05:02.60 - Well, we've got a number of callers who are lined up here, 00:05:02.60\00:05:04.57 and so we're gonna go to our first caller this evening. 00:05:04.57\00:05:06.47 We've got Martha listening in California. 00:05:06.47\00:05:09.00 Martha, welcome to the program. 00:05:09.00\00:05:10.64 - [Martha] Hi, thank you, pastors. 00:05:11.67\00:05:13.51 My question tonight, it's only come up a couple times, 00:05:15.34\00:05:18.81 but it was always in a professional situation 00:05:18.81\00:05:22.38 and wasn't an appropriate discussion for the time, 00:05:22.38\00:05:26.96 but I've had the comment made to me more than once 00:05:26.96\00:05:30.83 that Jonathan and David were homosexual lovers. 00:05:30.83\00:05:35.86 Now, I know they loved each other a lot, but you know, 00:05:37.23\00:05:39.87 the way God spoke of them, I know that's not true, 00:05:39.87\00:05:43.27 I just wanna know how to handle it scripturally. 00:05:43.27\00:05:46.57 - Yeah, I would actually say 00:05:47.61\00:05:48.81 that the question really begs the evidence, 00:05:48.81\00:05:53.48 what would lead a person to say that? 00:05:53.48\00:05:56.02 They're assuming because it says that David loved Jonathan, 00:05:56.02\00:05:59.62 it actually says, when Jonathan died, David says, 00:05:59.62\00:06:02.79 "I loved you more than the love of a man for a woman." 00:06:02.79\00:06:05.43 Well, that is not homosexuality, 00:06:05.43\00:06:08.16 that's saying it's different, 00:06:08.16\00:06:10.07 and clearly Jonathan was married and had children, 00:06:10.07\00:06:13.47 he had a son named Mephiboshet, David had at least 10 wives, 00:06:13.47\00:06:17.84 and I think it's just kind of part of our sick society, 00:06:19.21\00:06:23.01 they're assuming that if a man loves a friend, 00:06:23.01\00:06:25.95 it must be sexual, but there's nothing in the text to hint 00:06:25.95\00:06:31.02 that the love of David and Jonathan was anything other 00:06:32.39\00:06:34.42 than a profound love of two friends that were of one heart. 00:06:34.42\00:06:38.16 Yeah. 00:06:39.66\00:06:40.46 So it's hard to persuade people 00:06:40.46\00:06:42.60 that have their minds made up to read something into it 00:06:42.60\00:06:44.93 that's not in there. 00:06:44.93\00:06:46.20 - Mm-hmm, absolutely. 00:06:46.20\00:06:47.84 All right, well, thank you, Martha. 00:06:47.84\00:06:49.14 We've got Brittany listening also from California. 00:06:49.14\00:06:51.94 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:06:51.94\00:06:53.68 - [Brittany] Hey. (laughs) 00:06:54.71\00:06:56.04 - Hi, and your question. 00:06:56.04\00:06:59.45 - [Brittany] Well, my question is, who is the Antichrist? 00:07:00.85\00:07:04.82 - Ooh, big question. 00:07:04.82\00:07:07.02 Well, in a nutshell, and the word Antichrist, you know, 00:07:07.02\00:07:11.23 it means against, Antichrist is something or power 00:07:11.23\00:07:14.20 that is against Christ. 00:07:14.20\00:07:15.56 Historically, the Protestant church felt like the church 00:07:16.97\00:07:21.77 that had developed in Rome fulfilled that definition 00:07:23.17\00:07:26.01 of the Mother of Harlots, you know, 00:07:26.01\00:07:28.44 the church is compared to a bride, 00:07:28.44\00:07:31.11 and they had believed, 00:07:31.11\00:07:33.38 the Protestant reformers like Luther and Calvin 00:07:33.38\00:07:35.58 and everyone from Spurgeon to Wesley, 00:07:35.58\00:07:37.85 they saw what happened with the church 00:07:37.85\00:07:39.52 becoming a political power in Rome, 00:07:39.52\00:07:42.46 that it had become Antichrist in its teachings, 00:07:42.46\00:07:46.13 that didn't mean that all the Roman Catholics were lost, 00:07:46.13\00:07:49.40 it meant that its organization, 00:07:49.40\00:07:51.27 its structure began to teach things 00:07:51.27\00:07:53.03 that were contrary to Christ. 00:07:53.03\00:07:55.24 You know, things, for one thing, 00:07:55.24\00:07:56.30 they got involved in idolatry. 00:07:56.30\00:07:58.11 I think everyone can see that 00:07:58.11\00:07:59.84 that's one of the commandments 00:07:59.84\00:08:01.24 and the regal way that the priests and the popes 00:08:01.24\00:08:04.75 were treated when Jesus was, you know, 00:08:04.75\00:08:07.25 He didn't have a place to lie His head, 00:08:07.25\00:08:10.05 and they're the representatives or the "vicars of Christ". 00:08:10.05\00:08:14.09 Typically, the Protestants identified the papacy 00:08:14.09\00:08:18.89 as the Antichrist, 00:08:18.89\00:08:20.23 more specifically the office of the Pope. 00:08:20.23\00:08:22.33 - And the Antichrist, as you said, 00:08:22.33\00:08:23.97 is one who is opposed to Christ, 00:08:23.97\00:08:26.00 but it also has an added definition, 00:08:26.00\00:08:29.14 and that is to put oneself- 00:08:29.14\00:08:30.34 - [Both] In the place of Christ, 00:08:30.34\00:08:31.81 - Receiving worship or homage, 00:08:31.81\00:08:33.34 and of course we know that, from the medieval church, 00:08:33.34\00:08:35.78 that crept into Christianity. 00:08:35.78\00:08:37.41 - [Doug] Now, we have a lesson. 00:08:37.41\00:08:38.48 - We do, it's called "Who is the Antichrist," 00:08:38.48\00:08:40.08 we'll be happy to send that to you, Brittany, 00:08:40.08\00:08:42.08 or anyone who calls and asks. 00:08:42.08\00:08:43.82 The number to call is 800-835-6747 and you can ask 00:08:43.82\00:08:47.79 for the study guide, it's called "Who Is The Antichrist?" 00:08:47.79\00:08:50.59 and we'll send it to you, 00:08:50.59\00:08:51.96 it's part of the Amazing Facts Study Guides, 00:08:51.96\00:08:53.66 it's a whole series of lessons, 00:08:53.66\00:08:55.26 they get into a number of very important topics 00:08:55.26\00:08:57.50 in the Bible, and we encourage you, 00:08:57.50\00:08:59.20 if you have not gone through those lessons, 00:08:59.20\00:09:01.14 you need to do so, just also ask. 00:09:01.14\00:09:02.97 When you call, say, 00:09:02.97\00:09:04.31 "I'd like to enroll in the free Amazing Facts Bible course," 00:09:04.31\00:09:06.94 and I'll be happy to do that. 00:09:06.94\00:09:08.64 We've got Anthony listening in New York. 00:09:08.64\00:09:10.25 Anthony, welcome to the program. 00:09:10.25\00:09:11.91 - [Anthony] Hello, good evening, Pastors. 00:09:14.02\00:09:16.05 - Evening. - My question, 00:09:16.05\00:09:17.95 it has to do with two verses, Matthew 24, verse. 00:09:19.29\00:09:24.23 - I think we lost you. 00:09:26.49\00:09:27.50 Can you press Anthony again there? 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.20 - [Anthony] Sorry, yes, Matthew 24:29 00:09:30.33\00:09:33.64 and Revelation 6:13-14, and I wanna know 00:09:33.64\00:09:37.47 how to reconcile the two because I've always learned that, 00:09:37.47\00:09:40.88 you know, they said some of the moon turning to blood, 00:09:40.88\00:09:45.35 and the sun darkening, and the stars falling 00:09:45.35\00:09:47.88 has already happened in the past. 00:09:47.88\00:09:49.42 I've heard that in, you know, Revelation seminars, 00:09:49.42\00:09:51.62 they said these things have happened already, 00:09:51.62\00:09:53.89 but then in Matthew 24:29 00:09:53.89\00:09:56.32 it appears to say that it's gonna happen 00:09:56.32\00:09:59.63 after the great tribulation. 00:09:59.63\00:10:01.66 - [Doug] Yep. 00:10:01.66\00:10:02.73 - [Anthony] So I'm just trying to figure out 00:10:02.73\00:10:03.53 how to reconcile those two. 00:10:03.53\00:10:04.93 - No, that's a good, that's a good, legitimate question. 00:10:04.93\00:10:07.37 There are some of the prophecies that Jesus gives, 00:10:07.37\00:10:09.80 especially in Matthew 24, where you've actually got 00:10:09.80\00:10:13.14 the prophecies repeat themselves, 00:10:14.31\00:10:15.94 you might call it a dual application. 00:10:15.94\00:10:18.18 An example will be the disciples are asking three questions 00:10:18.18\00:10:22.25 in Matthew 24, they say, "When will these things be?" 00:10:22.25\00:10:25.62 He had just said Jerusalem would be destroyed, 00:10:25.62\00:10:27.86 there would not be left one stone upon another 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.96 at the temple, 00:10:29.96\00:10:31.33 so they're asking about the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:10:31.33\00:10:33.46 then they said, "Now, what is the sign of your coming?" 00:10:33.46\00:10:35.60 So they're asking about signs in the end of the world, 00:10:35.60\00:10:39.00 so He gives them signs through history, 00:10:39.00\00:10:40.80 He talks about the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:10:40.80\00:10:42.67 and He gives 'em more specific things about His return 00:10:42.67\00:10:46.68 and the end of the world. 00:10:46.68\00:10:48.21 So the things that happened with the sun turning dark 00:10:48.21\00:10:52.31 and the moon turning to blood 00:10:52.31\00:10:53.78 and the stars falling from heaven, 00:10:53.78\00:10:56.08 there have been, historically, some, and a great earthquake, 00:10:56.08\00:11:00.16 there have historically been some great cases 00:11:00.16\00:11:03.63 of these things that happened after the time periods 00:11:03.63\00:11:07.10 given in the prophecy, but they will happen again 00:11:07.10\00:11:10.33 in quick succession at the return of Christ. 00:11:10.33\00:11:14.17 So I guess the easy answer is to say 00:11:14.17\00:11:17.67 they happen more than once, 00:11:17.67\00:11:19.01 it's what you would call a dual application of prophecy. 00:11:19.01\00:11:21.64 - Yes, there's also two tribulations 00:11:21.64\00:11:23.61 that's spoken of both in Matthew 24 and also in Revelation. 00:11:23.61\00:11:27.12 You have the 1,260 years of papal supremacy 00:11:27.12\00:11:31.12 from 538 until 1798, that was a time of trouble, 00:11:31.12\00:11:35.62 there was a tribulation for Bible-believing Christians, 00:11:35.62\00:11:38.43 many of them were persecuted. 00:11:38.43\00:11:39.59 Yeah, the Protestant Reformation, 00:11:39.59\00:11:42.06 that's one time of trouble, 00:11:42.06\00:11:43.80 but then you have another time of trouble 00:11:43.80\00:11:45.33 according to Daniel 10. 00:11:45.33\00:11:47.40 Oh, Daniel chapter, where is it? 00:11:47.40\00:11:49.44 12 verse one, where Michael stands up 00:11:49.44\00:11:51.41 and there is a great time of trouble, 00:11:51.41\00:11:53.38 worse than the world has ever seen, 00:11:53.38\00:11:54.88 that hasn't yet happened, that's in the future, 00:11:54.88\00:11:57.31 so there are two times of trouble. 00:11:57.31\00:11:58.61 So immediately after the tribulation- 00:11:58.61\00:12:00.25 - I would argue- 00:12:00.25\00:12:01.22 - Those days. - There were three times 00:12:01.22\00:12:01.75 of trouble. 00:12:01.75\00:12:02.78 I think that you- - Oh, you mean Jerusalem 00:12:02.78\00:12:03.72 as well? - Yeah, absolutely. 00:12:03.72\00:12:04.69 - Yeah. - Yeah, he's also 00:12:04.69\00:12:05.82 talking about the fall of Jerusalem, 00:12:05.82\00:12:06.92 so that that would be one. - Yeah. 00:12:06.92\00:12:07.59 And then of course, 00:12:07.59\00:12:10.09 Jesus said immediately after the tribulation of those days, 00:12:10.09\00:12:12.16 then there'll be, you know, a great earthquake, 00:12:12.16\00:12:14.00 the sun will turn dark, and so on, 00:12:14.00\00:12:16.00 and we have the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 00:12:16.00\00:12:18.50 all the way up to the falling of the stars in 1833. 00:12:18.50\00:12:21.37 - Yep. - So we have succession 00:12:21.37\00:12:23.07 of the dark day and the blood moon. 00:12:23.07\00:12:24.47 - And the concentrated places of Christianity on the planet 00:12:24.47\00:12:28.14 saw these things, and so they even took them as signs 00:12:28.14\00:12:31.51 in the day they were happening. 00:12:31.51\00:12:33.11 - All right, well, 00:12:33.11\00:12:34.25 thank you, Nicole. - Thanks, friend, 00:12:34.25\00:12:34.78 good question. 00:12:34.78\00:12:35.82 - We got E. Frank listening from New York. 00:12:35.82\00:12:36.92 E. Frank, welcome to the program. 00:12:36.92\00:12:38.59 - [E. Frank] Yes, good evening, Pastor Doug- 00:12:39.72\00:12:42.12 - Evening. - And Pastor Ross, 00:12:42.12\00:12:44.33 I have a question that's been bothering me, 00:12:44.33\00:12:47.46 my person, for many, many years now, 00:12:47.46\00:12:49.40 it's in regards to the Quaker faith. 00:12:49.40\00:12:52.47 I have a story that has to do with a girl 00:12:53.97\00:12:58.94 that was in my second grade class, 00:13:00.14\00:13:02.01 she would always be attached to me and offer me membership 00:13:02.01\00:13:05.95 in the friends meeting, Quaker society, 00:13:05.95\00:13:09.62 and I asked her at that time 00:13:09.62\00:13:11.65 if Quaker's believe in holy scripture, 00:13:11.65\00:13:15.56 and she said, "No, not, we don't believe in scripture, 00:13:15.56\00:13:18.56 we believe that God works within us 00:13:18.56\00:13:20.93 and that God works 00:13:20.93\00:13:22.00 through every single human being on earth, 00:13:22.00\00:13:24.20 we don't believe in discriminating against anyone, 00:13:24.20\00:13:27.47 and we certainly we apply the teachings of Jesus 00:13:27.47\00:13:31.31 most of the time to our beliefs," 00:13:31.31\00:13:34.48 and I am very confused because they do say 00:13:34.48\00:13:37.45 that they believe in Christ, they believe in the Bible, 00:13:37.45\00:13:40.68 but they profess to have a belief in humanism, 00:13:40.68\00:13:45.75 in other words, so could you rectify that, Pastor Doug? 00:13:47.12\00:13:50.53 - Well, I'll do my best, of course, the Quaker religion, 00:13:50.53\00:13:52.89 as with a number of denominations, you know, 00:13:52.89\00:13:55.76 the Lutherans today are different from the Lutherans 00:13:55.76\00:13:58.40 in the days of Martin Luther. 00:13:58.40\00:14:00.14 Methodists today, Calvinists are different 00:14:00.14\00:14:03.44 than they were in the days of John Wesley or John Calvin, 00:14:03.44\00:14:07.04 the Quakers today, their beliefs, you know, 00:14:07.04\00:14:10.55 originally they were trying to base their beliefs 00:14:10.55\00:14:12.68 off the Bible, 00:14:12.68\00:14:14.05 but over time they began to put more and more emphasis 00:14:14.05\00:14:16.62 on the inner feeling and the spirit, 00:14:16.62\00:14:18.75 so pretty soon they got where the feelings 00:14:18.75\00:14:21.12 and the spirit, and the experience began to trump 00:14:21.12\00:14:26.19 scripture, and it was more important. 00:14:27.00\00:14:28.56 I remember growing up eating a lot of Quaker oatmeal 00:14:29.90\00:14:32.23 with the, you know, 00:14:32.23\00:14:33.80 the picture of the Puritan-looking Quaker with a 00:14:33.80\00:14:35.77 hat and so forth, but they've changed quite a bit 00:14:35.77\00:14:38.84 over the years, and it's more like a society now, 00:14:38.84\00:14:42.01 because if you wanna argue with them from scripture, 00:14:42.01\00:14:46.55 you probably won't get very far. 00:14:46.55\00:14:48.05 They use some scripture, you know, they believe 00:14:48.05\00:14:49.75 in loving their brothers and they're a nonviolent 00:14:49.75\00:14:53.15 when it comes to war, 00:14:53.92\00:14:55.62 but in a number of other doctrinal areas, 00:14:55.62\00:14:59.29 it's pretty, diverges pretty far from scripture, 00:14:59.29\00:15:03.13 so I hope that helps a little, E. Frank, 00:15:03.13\00:15:04.57 thank you for your question. 00:15:04.57\00:15:06.07 - Next caller we have is Derek, listening in Minnesota. 00:15:06.07\00:15:08.77 Derek, welcome to the program. 00:15:08.77\00:15:10.34 - [Derek] Well, hi, Pastor Doug. 00:15:11.41\00:15:12.77 Hi, Pastor Ross. 00:15:12.77\00:15:13.61 - Hi. 00:15:13.61\00:15:14.74 - I have a quick question, 00:15:14.74\00:15:16.41 I brought this out in my Sabbath school 00:15:16.41\00:15:18.18 and the elder gave me a really weird look 00:15:18.18\00:15:20.18 like it was blasphemous, but I thought you, 00:15:20.18\00:15:22.65 I've heard you mention sort of that Jesus 00:15:22.65\00:15:24.45 had Joseph's DNA somehow, 00:15:24.45\00:15:27.42 and I'm not really sure how you explained it, 00:15:27.42\00:15:29.82 but I mentioned it and they looked at me like I was crazy, 00:15:29.82\00:15:32.93 so I wasn't sure what you think. 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.20 - Well, let me be clear, 00:15:35.20\00:15:36.30 and I think when I did make that statement, 00:15:36.30\00:15:38.03 I've tried to also be clear that, you know, 00:15:38.03\00:15:39.90 we don't have a DNA sample of Jesus 00:15:39.90\00:15:41.87 to measure with a DNA sample of Joseph. 00:15:41.87\00:15:44.01 To give you an answer on that, 00:15:44.01\00:15:46.41 the Bible says that Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, 00:15:46.41\00:15:50.78 and I've talked to Jewish scholars before that said 00:15:50.78\00:15:55.05 that, these are Jewish Christians, 00:15:55.05\00:15:57.52 they said that it's entirely possible for God 00:15:57.52\00:16:01.79 to inseminate Mary with the Holy Spirit 00:16:01.79\00:16:05.99 and something divine, and still have attributes of Joseph, 00:16:05.99\00:16:08.93 is certainly not hard for the Lord, 00:16:08.93\00:16:11.10 and one of their arguments for that 00:16:11.10\00:16:12.77 is that the genealogy of Jesus, the one given in Matthew, 00:16:12.77\00:16:17.84 follows the line of Joseph to David, 00:16:18.91\00:16:22.24 and if there's no blood relation to Joseph, 00:16:22.24\00:16:24.51 why does that happen? 00:16:24.51\00:16:25.58 Well, you know, that's one argument, 00:16:25.58\00:16:28.38 and then of course the genealogy in Luke, 00:16:28.38\00:16:31.95 I think is tracing through Joseph's father-in-law, 00:16:31.95\00:16:35.62 which would be Mary's father, so, you know, we don't know, 00:16:35.62\00:16:39.93 but it's entirely possible that God took something 00:16:39.93\00:16:44.97 of Joseph also and had that in Mary, 00:16:46.10\00:16:50.37 it certainly was a miraculous event, 00:16:53.41\00:16:57.48 but I would not die on that mountain, it was just a theory. 00:16:57.48\00:17:01.22 - All right, well, thank you, Derek, 00:17:01.22\00:17:02.38 and of course, just to clarify, 00:17:02.38\00:17:03.72 you fully agreed that, you know, Christ was miraculously, 00:17:03.72\00:17:08.69 Mary was a virgin 00:17:08.69\00:17:09.66 when she gave birth- 00:17:09.66\00:17:10.43 - Yes. - To Jesus. 00:17:10.43\00:17:11.59 - Yeah, yeah, yeah, no. 00:17:11.59\00:17:12.43 - There's no question 00:17:12.43\00:17:13.40 about that- - when it says, 00:17:13.40\00:17:14.20 "Conceived by the Holy Spirit, 00:17:14.20\00:17:15.30 I was just saying that whatever that sperm is 00:17:15.30\00:17:18.33 that God used to inseminate Mary, 00:17:18.33\00:17:21.20 it would not have been beyond the Lord 00:17:21.20\00:17:23.10 to have some attributes of Joseph. 00:17:23.10\00:17:25.77 I don't know, you know? 00:17:25.77\00:17:26.91 - Right. - So, yeah. 00:17:26.91\00:17:29.04 - Okay, that was that. - If that happens, 00:17:29.04\00:17:30.51 that solves a problem of why the two genealogies. 00:17:30.51\00:17:32.98 - Right, right. 00:17:32.98\00:17:34.55 All right, thank you. 00:17:34.55\00:17:35.65 Julie is listening in South Dakota. 00:17:35.65\00:17:37.19 Julie, welcome to the program. 00:17:37.19\00:17:39.42 - [Julie] Oh, well thank you very much, pastors. 00:17:39.42\00:17:42.32 I was wondering, 00:17:42.32\00:17:43.69 I believe that Jesus is going to return very soon 00:17:43.69\00:17:46.23 and so what can a person do to make sure they're saved 00:17:46.23\00:17:49.96 before He returns? 00:17:49.96\00:17:51.47 - Well, first of all, 00:17:52.90\00:17:54.27 I wouldn't let the return of Christ be the only motive, 00:17:54.27\00:17:56.84 I think every one of us is blessed 00:17:56.84\00:17:59.24 to have another day of life and another breath or heartbeat, 00:17:59.24\00:18:02.48 and so we wanna know immediately. 00:18:02.48\00:18:06.51 Say, "Lord, is my life in Your hands?" 00:18:06.51\00:18:09.92 And to follow the simple criteria that God gives, 00:18:09.92\00:18:12.59 to come humbly, sincerely, confess that we are sinners, 00:18:12.59\00:18:17.66 confess our sins to God, repent of our sins 00:18:18.73\00:18:20.93 and say you accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross 00:18:20.93\00:18:25.77 and His shed blood in your behalf, 00:18:25.77\00:18:28.67 that you might be forgiven and given a new birth, 00:18:28.67\00:18:31.27 a new heart, and a new life, 00:18:31.27\00:18:34.01 and I'd say you might need to do that more than once. 00:18:34.01\00:18:37.41 In other words, Paul said, "I die daily," 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.78 means he died to himself every day. 00:18:39.78\00:18:42.88 Experienced a new birth each day 00:18:42.88\00:18:45.72 and just keep your relationship with the Lord 00:18:45.72\00:18:49.06 fresh and growing, and we've got a book 00:18:49.06\00:18:52.76 on three steps to heaven. - That's right, 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.10 that's what I was thinking about, it's a great resource, 00:18:54.10\00:18:56.16 kind of help encourage anyone how you can have 00:18:56.16\00:18:58.93 that daily connection with Christ, 00:18:58.93\00:19:00.77 it's called "Three Steps to Heaven," 00:19:00.77\00:19:02.10 we'll be happy to send the book to anyone 00:19:02.10\00:19:03.71 who calls and asks. 00:19:03.71\00:19:05.24 The number again is 800-835-6747, just ask for the 00:19:05.24\00:19:09.18 book, it's called "Three Steps to Heaven," 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.01 we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:19:11.01\00:19:14.28 We've got Gina listening in California. 00:19:14.28\00:19:16.45 Gina, welcome to the program. 00:19:16.45\00:19:18.79 - [Gina] Thank you so much, hello, pastors. 00:19:18.79\00:19:21.92 Please, my question is about being meek, 00:19:21.92\00:19:25.76 meekness from the Bible, 00:19:25.76\00:19:27.76 because that does not mean weak, 00:19:27.76\00:19:30.07 and we're called to be soldiers for Christ, and so please, 00:19:30.07\00:19:33.54 could you give a better definition or some examples? 00:19:33.54\00:19:37.21 - Yeah, you know, well, for one thing, 00:19:38.31\00:19:39.71 the Bible talks about Moses as being one of the meekest mans 00:19:39.71\00:19:43.18 in all of the earth. 00:19:43.18\00:19:44.98 Moses was very strong leader in the way 00:19:44.98\00:19:47.42 that he boldly went before Pharaoh and said, 00:19:47.42\00:19:49.48 "Let my people go." 00:19:49.48\00:19:50.85 Jesus was incredibly strong and courageous and brave, 00:19:50.85\00:19:55.59 but He was also very humble 00:19:55.59\00:19:58.29 in that He would not claim His rights. 00:19:58.29\00:20:00.66 He, you know, took children up in His arms, 00:20:00.66\00:20:02.90 He was, the Bible says He was gentle and lowly. 00:20:02.90\00:20:06.94 Now people confuse meekness with weakness, 00:20:06.94\00:20:09.67 and they really are completely different things. 00:20:09.67\00:20:12.24 You could have a very brave, courageous, 00:20:12.24\00:20:15.04 strong man who's also meek and humble, 00:20:15.04\00:20:19.68 and so there, one is, you know, an attitude of humility, 00:20:19.68\00:20:24.22 it's not a trait of weakness. 00:20:24.22\00:20:26.55 - All right, well, thank you, Gina. 00:20:27.66\00:20:29.29 Next call is Perlita listening in New York. 00:20:29.29\00:20:32.36 Perlita, welcome to the program. 00:20:32.36\00:20:34.00 - [Perlita] Yes, sir. 00:20:35.10\00:20:36.90 I want to ask to our pastor about Matthew 20:30 00:20:36.90\00:20:41.07 It says here, "At that time, the sign of the son of man 00:20:43.41\00:20:48.01 will appear in the sky 00:20:48.01\00:20:50.01 and all the nations of the earth will mourn, 00:20:50.01\00:20:53.42 they will see the son of man 00:20:53.42\00:20:55.58 coming on the clouds of the sky 00:20:55.58\00:20:58.32 with power and glory." 00:20:58.32\00:21:00.56 Is this the rapture of the church, pastor? 00:21:01.66\00:21:05.29 - Well, when they see the Lord coming, 00:21:05.29\00:21:08.33 this is a visible coming of the Lord. 00:21:08.33\00:21:11.03 This is connected with 1 Thessalonians 4 00:21:11.03\00:21:14.90 where it says that the Lord Himself will descend from heaven 00:21:14.90\00:21:18.07 "with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, 00:21:18.07\00:21:20.14 the trump of God, the dead in Christ will rise, 00:21:20.14\00:21:23.01 then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together 00:21:23.01\00:21:26.01 with them in the clouds, so shall we ever be with the Lord." 00:21:26.01\00:21:29.35 So when we are caught up after our bodies are transformed, 00:21:29.35\00:21:33.86 that is a rapture, it's just not a secret 00:21:33.86\00:21:36.36 because you got a trumpet the glory of the Lord 00:21:36.36\00:21:38.93 coming with the angels, 00:21:38.93\00:21:40.60 so we would respectfully disagree with those who say 00:21:40.60\00:21:43.50 that the people are gonna disappear secretly, 00:21:43.50\00:21:47.24 we think it's a very visible rapture that takes place, 00:21:47.24\00:21:50.54 that's what the word rapture means, to be caught up. 00:21:50.54\00:21:53.04 - So the Bible teaches that when Jesus comes, 00:21:53.04\00:21:55.14 life's not gonna continue on earth normally, 00:21:55.14\00:21:58.65 the dead are gonna be destroyed 00:21:58.65\00:21:59.71 by the brightness of His coming, 00:21:59.71\00:22:00.92 the righteous are gonna be caught up 00:22:00.92\00:22:02.28 into the air with Jesus. 00:22:02.28\00:22:04.12 So yes, nothing secret about the second coming of Christ. 00:22:04.12\00:22:07.02 - People will take the verse where it says, 00:22:07.02\00:22:08.42 "But He's coming as a thief," 00:22:08.42\00:22:10.03 and they think that means secretly, 00:22:10.03\00:22:11.33 but they've gotta read that whole verse 00:22:11.33\00:22:13.53 in 2 Peter 3, and I think it starts with verse eight. 00:22:13.53\00:22:17.03 It says, "The day of the Lord will come as a thief 00:22:17.03\00:22:19.27 in the night, in which the heavens pass away 00:22:19.27\00:22:22.00 with a great noise and the elements melt with fervent heat, 00:22:22.00\00:22:25.71 and the earth and the things in it are burned up." 00:22:25.71\00:22:28.28 So as Pastor Ross said, when the Lord comes as a thief, 00:22:28.28\00:22:31.25 life doesn't go on for seven more years. 00:22:31.25\00:22:33.88 - You know, got a book talking about this 00:22:33.88\00:22:35.62 called "Anything But Secret," and again, we'll send this 00:22:35.62\00:22:38.02 to anyone who calls and asks, 00:22:38.02\00:22:39.22 the number is 800-835-6747. 00:22:39.22\00:22:42.82 You can ask for the book, it's called "Anything But Secret," 00:22:42.82\00:22:45.16 it's all about the second coming of Christ 00:22:45.16\00:22:47.30 and the rapture of the saints. 00:22:47.30\00:22:48.63 When we are caught up to meet Jesus in the air, 00:22:48.63\00:22:51.07 what happens to the wicked? 00:22:51.07\00:22:52.67 Thank you for your call. 00:22:52.67\00:22:53.64 Next caller that we have is, 00:22:53.64\00:22:54.87 we got Moby, listening in Canada. 00:22:55.97\00:22:58.41 Moby, welcome. 00:22:58.41\00:22:59.34 Moby in Canada. - Hello. 00:23:02.18\00:23:03.31 - Yes, you're on the air. 00:23:03.31\00:23:05.58 - [Moby] Good evening. 00:23:05.58\00:23:07.05 - Evening! 00:23:07.05\00:23:07.95 And your question. 00:23:09.52\00:23:10.52 - [Moby] Yes, I have a question regarding, you know, 00:23:11.79\00:23:15.89 I'm a first year student, 00:23:15.89\00:23:17.93 I'm doing computer science in a STEM course. 00:23:17.93\00:23:20.66 We're in, I mean, like, I'm in the academic world, you know, 00:23:22.03\00:23:26.43 it's just, I'm just infiltrated with, you know, 00:23:26.43\00:23:29.90 teaching of evolution and, you know, 00:23:29.90\00:23:31.84 I just doubt, you know, creation and, 00:23:32.94\00:23:35.31 you know, what the purpose of human life is, 00:23:35.31\00:23:37.85 I've been really doubting it, 00:23:37.85\00:23:41.22 can you show me verses to, you know, 00:23:41.22\00:23:44.39 help me to encourage my faith? 00:23:44.39\00:23:46.65 - Yeah, well, as far as verses, 00:23:47.46\00:23:48.86 there's no question if you believe the Bible, 00:23:48.86\00:23:51.03 it tells us that God created the world in six literal days, 00:23:51.03\00:23:54.20 you'll find that in Genesis 1 and 2, 00:23:54.20\00:23:56.46 and several times through the Bible, 00:23:57.73\00:24:00.67 Jesus reiterates that God created everything. 00:24:00.67\00:24:03.97 John says God made all things through Christ, 00:24:03.97\00:24:07.11 and so the divine creation is from cover to cover, 00:24:07.11\00:24:10.78 even in, you know, Revelation 14, 00:24:10.78\00:24:12.31 "Worship Him that made the heaven, and the earth, 00:24:12.31\00:24:15.25 and the sea, and the fountains of water." 00:24:15.25\00:24:16.58 So there's lots of scripture, 00:24:16.58\00:24:18.22 but I used to be an evolutionist, 00:24:18.22\00:24:20.56 and the more I thought about it, 00:24:20.56\00:24:22.12 the more I realized that evolution is extremely 00:24:22.12\00:24:26.09 illogical, and for me the most powerful argument 00:24:27.20\00:24:28.70 is that you have no example anywhere 00:24:28.70\00:24:31.73 in the observable universe 00:24:31.73\00:24:34.07 where you get inner working systems, 00:24:34.07\00:24:36.20 and complicated organized design, 00:24:36.20\00:24:38.97 and all these symbiotic relationships, and just 00:24:38.97\00:24:44.01 complicated, incredibly exquisite design, by chance, you 00:24:45.28\00:24:49.98 know, a human body and the way that our eyes, and our ears, 00:24:51.32\00:24:54.02 and our brains work is so sophisticated, 00:24:54.02\00:24:57.16 the idea that that happened by accident through, you know, 00:24:57.16\00:25:01.70 biologic processes and that we have no purpose, 00:25:01.70\00:25:04.40 we're all just these biological algae on the planet, 00:25:04.40\00:25:08.54 that is so hard to comprehend. 00:25:09.54\00:25:13.34 For example, if you're walking through the desert 00:25:13.34\00:25:16.64 and you see a motorcycle up on a kickstand 00:25:18.05\00:25:20.48 out in the middle of the desert, 00:25:20.48\00:25:22.68 and you know something about motorcycles, and you hop on, 00:25:22.68\00:25:25.22 you kick it, and it starts and you ride off. 00:25:25.22\00:25:28.09 Would you ever, ever believe that that motorcycle 00:25:28.09\00:25:30.53 came out of the sand? 00:25:30.53\00:25:31.83 No, it came from a motorcycle factory where engineers 00:25:33.13\00:25:35.26 worked a long time on developing that motorcycle 00:25:35.26\00:25:37.80 and very, an international process of assembling the parts 00:25:37.80\00:25:42.57 of materials to make that motorcycle. 00:25:42.57\00:25:44.77 You know, and it'd accept that it's extremely complicated, 00:25:44.77\00:25:48.54 we are much more complicated than a car or a motorcycle, 00:25:48.54\00:25:53.05 and to think that these inner working systems 00:25:53.05\00:25:55.32 happen by accident, to me is a powerful proof 00:25:55.32\00:25:59.92 that there has to be an intelligent God 00:25:59.92\00:26:02.52 for the complexity of life we have on our planet. 00:26:02.52\00:26:04.96 - You know, we got a book, 00:26:04.96\00:26:06.36 it's called "How Evolution Flunked the Science Test," 00:26:06.36\00:26:08.60 and it talks about these dilemmas that, well, 00:26:08.60\00:26:12.13 science can't explain, and we'll be happy to send this 00:26:12.13\00:26:14.84 to anyone who calls and asks, 00:26:14.84\00:26:15.97 The number is 800-835-6747, 00:26:15.97\00:26:19.74 and ask for the book 00:26:19.74\00:26:20.81 "How Evolution Flunked the Science Test," 00:26:20.81\00:26:22.74 and we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:26:22.74\00:26:26.92 Well Pastor Doug, I'm looking at the clock, 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.22 we don't have enough time to take another call 00:26:28.22\00:26:30.19 before we have our break. 00:26:30.19\00:26:31.59 So friends, we still have another half an hour or so 00:26:31.59\00:26:33.72 of Bible questions, and we see a number of folks 00:26:33.72\00:26:36.66 who are lined up with your Bible questions, 00:26:36.66\00:26:39.06 so we're gonna take a quick break, 00:26:39.06\00:26:40.73 and give some important announcements, 00:26:40.73\00:26:42.66 and then we'll be back with more Bible questions. 00:26:42.66\00:26:44.73 - Absolutely, and in the meantime, 00:26:44.73\00:26:46.67 don't forget to just write down amazingfacts.org 00:26:46.67\00:26:50.04 so you can heck things out through the week. 00:26:50.04\00:26:51.91 We'll be back with more questions in just a moment. 00:26:51.91\00:26:54.54 (inspiring music) 00:26:54.54\00:26:57.88 - [Announcer] Stay tuned, Bible Answers Live 00:26:57.88\00:27:00.15 will return shortly. 00:27:00.15\00:27:01.18 (inspiring music) 00:27:01.18\00:27:04.09 - [Announcer] In six days, 00:27:05.19\00:27:06.55 God created the heavens and the earth. 00:27:06.55\00:27:09.52 For thousands of years, 00:27:09.52\00:27:11.03 man has worshiped God on the seventh day of the week. 00:27:11.03\00:27:14.30 Now, each week, millions of people worship 00:27:14.30\00:27:17.17 on the first day, what happened? My name is John Ross, 00:29:39.47\00:29:40.84 and we have Anastasia who is listening in Canada. 00:29:40.84\00:29:44.05 Anastasia, welcome to the program. 00:29:44.05\00:29:45.81 - [Anastasia] Hey, hello. 00:29:46.82\00:29:47.98 - Hi. 00:29:47.98\00:29:48.88 - [Anastasia] Hi, I just had a question about, 00:29:49.98\00:29:51.99 I think it's Proverbs 13 when it talks about, 00:29:51.99\00:29:54.96 "Don't spare the rod and spoil the child," 00:29:54.96\00:29:57.69 so to me I think that's like a metaphor for discipline, 00:29:59.06\00:30:02.86 but, like, I know some people might think 00:30:02.86\00:30:06.03 that literally means, like, if your kid's doing bad things, 00:30:06.03\00:30:09.00 like, hit them. 00:30:09.00\00:30:10.41 Like, I've heard people say that before 00:30:10.41\00:30:11.87 and I'm not too sure, 00:30:11.87\00:30:13.24 I'm pretty sure, like, Jesus doesn't hit us 00:30:14.68\00:30:16.71 when we do things wrong, 00:30:16.71\00:30:18.28 so I just want to know your take on that. 00:30:18.28\00:30:21.18 - Yeah, well, the Lord is, of course, a loving God, 00:30:21.18\00:30:23.75 but I think the Bible does teach that God disciplines us, 00:30:23.75\00:30:28.62 and it doesn't mean that He smacks us down with a rod 00:30:29.99\00:30:32.69 every time we do something wrong, 00:30:32.69\00:30:33.80 there's a a broad spectrum of ways 00:30:33.80\00:30:36.20 that you might discipline your child, 00:30:36.20\00:30:39.40 it might be quiet time, 00:30:39.40\00:30:41.24 it might be taking away some privilege, 00:30:41.24\00:30:43.51 but the Bible also says that the Lord chastens every son 00:30:43.51\00:30:46.84 who he loves, I think it's in Hebrews 00:30:46.84\00:30:48.74 as well as in Proverbs, 00:30:48.74\00:30:51.48 and sometimes that might mean doing something 00:30:51.48\00:30:55.58 where you inflict appropriate pain 00:30:55.58\00:31:00.42 it might be on the posterior, 00:31:00.42\00:31:01.96 and now I've got six kids and you know, 00:31:01.96\00:31:05.59 sometimes because I love them and I don't want them to die, 00:31:05.59\00:31:10.43 when they kept meandering off into the street 00:31:10.43\00:31:14.30 after I'd say, "Do not go on the street, 00:31:14.30\00:31:16.60 do not go on the street," 00:31:16.60\00:31:18.11 and they wouldn't listen, out of love for them, 00:31:18.11\00:31:22.98 I might give them a little bit of pain so that, 00:31:22.98\00:31:26.95 you know, spank 'em. 00:31:26.95\00:31:28.32 I know, there I said the word, that they might go, 00:31:28.32\00:31:32.12 "Ooh, that hurts, I don't wanna do that again." 00:31:32.12\00:31:35.02 The fact is that everybody remembers 00:31:35.02\00:31:39.89 the way we learn is through pain. 00:31:42.13\00:31:44.40 You know, the reason I don't keep grabbing things 00:31:44.40\00:31:46.50 off the stove without a pot holder is 'cause I've done it 00:31:46.50\00:31:49.24 without a pot holder, and that just, 00:31:49.24\00:31:50.81 you only have to do it once or twice and then you learn. 00:31:50.81\00:31:53.88 It's interesting. 00:31:53.88\00:31:55.48 Real quick, a couple weeks ago I was cutting wood 00:31:55.48\00:31:58.81 in the hills and I tossed a piece of wood 00:31:58.81\00:32:01.35 on a yellow jacket nest and they came swarming out 00:32:01.35\00:32:04.82 like a bit twice, I will never drive by that spot again, 00:32:04.82\00:32:09.76 even though they'll be gone soon, 00:32:09.76\00:32:11.59 I'll never drive by that spot again 00:32:11.59\00:32:13.66 and forget that experience, I'll always know. 00:32:13.66\00:32:17.53 And so if something about pain helps us survive, 00:32:17.53\00:32:20.37 and so sometimes you might paddle a child if- 00:32:20.37\00:32:24.21 - Yeah, especially if the child is young now, you know, 00:32:24.21\00:32:26.51 obviously when they're old enough to make decisions and 00:32:26.51\00:32:29.14 you- - Like 21, 00:32:29.14\00:32:30.25 you start stopping- - You've gotta try 00:32:30.25\00:32:30.91 some creative things, 00:32:30.91\00:32:31.71 when they get a little older. 00:32:31.71\00:32:33.52 But when a child is young, 00:32:33.52\00:32:34.92 sometimes you need to kind of slap them on the hand and say, 00:32:34.92\00:32:37.02 "That's hot, don't touch it." 00:32:37.02\00:32:38.39 - Yeah. - Because you don't 00:32:38.39\00:32:39.19 want them to hurt themselves. 00:32:39.19\00:32:40.22 So the verse you're referring to, 00:32:40.22\00:32:41.89 you've got, of course, Proverbs 3:12, 00:32:41.89\00:32:43.63 but then also Hebrews 12:6, it says, 00:32:43.63\00:32:45.89 "For whom the Lord loves, He chastens, 00:32:45.89\00:32:48.23 and scourges every son whom He receives." 00:32:48.23\00:32:51.07 So there we have the idea of God does bring discipline 00:32:51.07\00:32:55.64 to guide us and lead us. 00:32:55.64\00:32:57.37 All right, thank you, Anastasia. 00:32:57.37\00:32:58.84 We got Terrence listening from North Carolina. 00:32:58.84\00:33:01.31 Terrence, welcome to the program. 00:33:01.31\00:33:03.65 - [Terrence] Hey, thanks for taking my call. 00:33:03.65\00:33:05.11 I got a question for you as in reference to, 00:33:05.11\00:33:09.05 according to our rewarded, according to our works, 00:33:09.05\00:33:11.85 and Romans 2:6, 00:33:11.85\00:33:14.69 there's a dozen of verses for this, 00:33:14.69\00:33:17.16 and I guess it would be a little humorous 00:33:17.16\00:33:21.50 for Pastor Doug here. 00:33:21.50\00:33:23.37 Would Pastor Doug be in a mansion and I would have a tent? 00:33:23.37\00:33:25.87 I mean, what does it mean by, "According to our works?" 00:33:25.87\00:33:28.84 - Oh, well, you know, 00:33:28.84\00:33:31.14 I think that there are varying degrees 00:33:31.14\00:33:33.07 of reward and punishment according to the Bible. 00:33:33.07\00:33:36.24 First, let's talk about punishment. 00:33:36.24\00:33:39.05 Jesus said he that knew his masters well 00:33:39.05\00:33:42.25 and did not do it will be beaten with many stripes 00:33:42.25\00:33:44.85 because he knew what God wanted, he that did not know 00:33:44.85\00:33:47.46 and did not do it will be beaten with few stripes. 00:33:47.46\00:33:50.66 Just notice they're both gonna be punished but differently, 00:33:50.66\00:33:55.10 one many, one few, so there's varying degrees of punishment. 00:33:55.10\00:33:58.70 Obviously the duration and intensity of pain 00:33:58.70\00:34:02.54 that Adolph Hitler will experience in the lake of fire 00:34:02.54\00:34:05.64 would be more severe than some lost, you know, 00:34:05.64\00:34:09.18 18-year-old that committed suicide, 00:34:09.18\00:34:11.18 sadly though they may be lost, 00:34:12.15\00:34:14.65 they're not gonna experience the same degree of punishment 00:34:14.65\00:34:16.95 as Adolph Hitler. 00:34:16.95\00:34:18.75 Same thing with rewards, 00:34:18.75\00:34:20.26 there are those who have given more, 00:34:20.26\00:34:22.09 and sacrificed more, and loved the Lord, and had, you know, 00:34:22.09\00:34:26.53 more good works and more self-denial, 00:34:26.53\00:34:28.73 they may surprise everybody and people that we even know 00:34:28.73\00:34:32.57 nothing about could be leading the parade in heaven 00:34:32.57\00:34:35.40 and they'll have greater rewards, 00:34:35.40\00:34:37.07 whether that means a bigger mansion, I don't know, 00:34:37.07\00:34:39.87 some people (indistinct) anything, 00:34:39.87\00:34:42.18 but whatever the rewards are, 00:34:42.18\00:34:43.51 they're gonna be honored somehow more in the kingdom. 00:34:43.51\00:34:46.92 - You know, you think of some people 00:34:46.92\00:34:48.18 who actually gave their life 00:34:48.18\00:34:49.32 as a martyr. - Yeah. 00:34:49.32\00:34:50.82 - You got Stephen, for example, 00:34:50.82\00:34:53.05 and God rewards each person according to their works 00:34:53.05\00:34:55.39 and how faithful they were in difficult situations. 00:34:55.39\00:34:57.79 - They gave everything for the Lord, yeah. 00:34:57.79\00:34:59.73 - You know, 00:34:59.73\00:35:00.60 the verse you're referring to 00:35:00.60\00:35:01.90 about the punishment of the wicked is Luke 12:48 that says, 00:35:01.90\00:35:04.17 "He who knew the will of his master and did not do it 00:35:04.17\00:35:06.90 shall be beaten with many stripes, 00:35:06.90\00:35:08.77 whereas the one who didn't, few stripes." 00:35:08.77\00:35:10.37 So there's the verse, Luke 12:48. 00:35:10.37\00:35:13.07 Next caller that we have is Evan, listening from Mexico. 00:35:13.07\00:35:16.18 Evan, welcome to the program. 00:35:16.18\00:35:17.71 - [Evan] Good evening, pastors. 00:35:20.12\00:35:21.75 I have a question for you, guys, in regards to this verse. 00:35:21.75\00:35:24.72 (sighs) I got the wrong verse. 00:35:25.95\00:35:27.32 - Oh, sorry. 00:35:27.32\00:35:28.39 - I wanted the one, clarity on where Jesus, 00:35:29.46\00:35:33.86 where it says in the scriptures where Jesus went down 00:35:33.86\00:35:36.93 to the heart of the earth and freed the captives, 00:35:36.93\00:35:39.27 or something like that. - You're talking, I think, 00:35:39.27\00:35:40.90 is it 1 Peter 2, Pastor Ross, where it says 00:35:40.90\00:35:45.51 he preached to the spirits in prison? 00:35:45.51\00:35:47.41 - Yeah, that's it, that's it. 00:35:48.21\00:35:50.08 - Yeah. 00:35:50.08\00:35:51.15 And I think it might be, let me see. 00:35:51.15\00:35:52.25 1 Peter 2, I'm just, I'm going for memory now. 00:35:52.25\00:35:55.38 No. - 1 Peter 3. 00:35:56.45\00:35:58.72 - Three. - Verse 19. 00:35:58.72\00:35:59.92 - There it is, yeah. 00:35:59.92\00:36:01.09 - 18-19. - Yeah, "For Christ 00:36:01.09\00:36:03.29 also suffered once for sins, 00:36:03.29\00:36:04.86 the just for the unjust, 00:36:04.86\00:36:06.19 that He might bring us to God, 00:36:06.19\00:36:07.76 being put to death in the flesh, but made alive 00:36:07.76\00:36:10.17 in the Spirit." 00:36:10.17\00:36:11.70 Now, the emphasis here is the Spirit by whom, 00:36:11.70\00:36:15.40 through the Spirit, He went and preached 00:36:15.40\00:36:17.61 to the spirits in prison, in other words, 00:36:17.61\00:36:19.24 spirits here is small S, 00:36:19.24\00:36:21.18 it's basically saying that it was the same Spirit, 00:36:21.18\00:36:24.51 the Holy Spirit that rose Christ, 00:36:24.51\00:36:27.68 that Spirit strove with people 00:36:27.68\00:36:30.52 who formerly were disobedient, 00:36:30.52\00:36:32.32 "When once the divine longsuffering waited 00:36:32.32\00:36:35.12 in the days of Noah," God was longsuffering, 00:36:35.12\00:36:38.13 that's when God says, 00:36:38.13\00:36:39.23 and Peter is quoting from Genesis 6:3. 00:36:39.23\00:36:43.60 where He says, "My Spirit will not always strive with man, 00:36:43.60\00:36:46.97 his days will be 120 years." 00:36:46.97\00:36:49.30 Well, that's pretty longsuffering, 00:36:49.30\00:36:50.31 to give a person 120 years. 00:36:50.31\00:36:52.44 So Peter just saying the same Spirit that strove 00:36:52.44\00:36:55.51 with the lost, people imprisoned by the devil, 00:36:55.51\00:36:58.78 imprisoned by sin, the Bible says that, you know, 00:36:58.78\00:37:01.48 people are held captive by their sins. 00:37:01.48\00:37:03.89 That same Spirit is the Spirit that rose Jesus. 00:37:03.89\00:37:06.62 Jesus did not go from the cross down to some cavern of hell 00:37:06.62\00:37:11.69 and preach to give lost people a second chance, 00:37:12.83\00:37:15.23 that would go against everything else the Bible says, 00:37:15.23\00:37:17.80 where it tells us, "It's appointed unto man once to die, 00:37:17.80\00:37:20.47 after that, the judgment," 00:37:20.47\00:37:21.74 it's not, "Die, second chance, then judgment," 00:37:21.74\00:37:25.37 so this is an often misunderstood verse. 00:37:25.37\00:37:29.41 - All right, does that help, Evan? 00:37:29.41\00:37:31.25 - [Evan] Well, yeah, I was just wondering, 00:37:32.71\00:37:33.95 well, who are the captives that He freed? 00:37:33.95\00:37:36.72 - Well, it's talking about that 00:37:36.72\00:37:39.22 when Noah preached in the days before the flood, 00:37:39.22\00:37:42.42 God preached to those that were in prison 00:37:42.42\00:37:45.36 and the Lord, through the same Spirit, He strove with them. 00:37:45.36\00:37:49.73 Some of the people during that 120 years were saved 00:37:49.73\00:37:53.00 before the flood, for one thing, Enoch was saved, 00:37:53.00\00:37:56.47 Methuselah was saved, they all died before the flood. 00:37:56.47\00:37:59.71 Unfortunately, as far as the flood, 00:37:59.71\00:38:02.34 just Noah and his family, 00:38:02.34\00:38:03.65 there were eight souls that were saved, 00:38:03.65\00:38:05.55 and Peter mentions that later on also. 00:38:05.55\00:38:08.32 - All right, well, thanks for your call. 00:38:09.38\00:38:10.62 We've got Carol listening in Oregon. 00:38:10.62\00:38:12.12 Carol, welcome to the program. 00:38:12.12\00:38:13.69 - [Carol] Good evening, gentlemen. 00:38:14.72\00:38:15.76 Thank you for taking my call. 00:38:15.76\00:38:17.39 It's about the new moon. 00:38:18.19\00:38:19.93 I understand it was a holiday or Sabbath 00:38:19.93\00:38:23.97 or something observed in the Old Testament, 00:38:23.97\00:38:26.43 but I must confess a degree of ignorance. 00:38:26.43\00:38:28.97 I've seen it mentioned now and again in the Bible, 00:38:30.34\00:38:34.34 in the same sentence along with the weekly Sabbath, 00:38:34.34\00:38:37.65 like in Isaiah where he says, "One new moon to the next 00:38:37.65\00:38:42.18 and one Sabbath to the next, all flesh 00:38:42.18\00:38:44.55 will come to worship," 00:38:44.55\00:38:45.65 and I believe in the New Testament too. 00:38:45.65\00:38:47.16 I thought it was Colossians, 00:38:47.16\00:38:49.59 I think St. Paul also mentioned the two 00:38:49.59\00:38:52.29 in the same sentence as though 00:38:52.29\00:38:54.03 there were some link between them, 00:38:54.03\00:38:56.26 but I don't know enough about the new moon to really tell, 00:38:56.26\00:39:00.80 so I was hoping you could fill in the picture. 00:39:00.80\00:39:03.30 - Well, yeah, well, I'll do my best. 00:39:03.30\00:39:05.07 The Jewish calendar was a lunar calendar, 00:39:05.07\00:39:07.64 it was governed by the months and the word month we get 00:39:07.64\00:39:10.75 from the word moon, they're related, 00:39:10.75\00:39:12.91 and so they had the division of time. 00:39:12.91\00:39:15.48 There was the week, which was, of course, every Sabbath, 00:39:15.48\00:39:19.52 new week began, you had the seventh day, 00:39:19.52\00:39:21.22 then you followed that at first, the month, 00:39:21.22\00:39:23.73 they had a 27-day calendar, followed the lunar cycle. 00:39:23.73\00:39:28.40 The Jews would correct, they'd correlate the solar year 00:39:28.40\00:39:33.23 with the lunar year by adding a month, 00:39:34.34\00:39:36.30 I think it was every 13 years, 00:39:36.30\00:39:37.61 they would add a month to compensate, 00:39:37.61\00:39:39.47 and so they actually had a very accurate calendar, 00:39:39.47\00:39:42.81 and when it says in heaven, "From one new moon to another, 00:39:42.81\00:39:46.21 from one sabbath to another, 00:39:46.21\00:39:47.28 all flesh will come and worship before Me." 00:39:47.28\00:39:50.35 Now, I understand that you realize that there are four 00:39:50.35\00:39:55.42 weeks in a month, approximately, I think in heaven, 00:39:57.89\00:40:01.70 that the months are gonna have 28 days exactly, 00:40:01.70\00:40:04.47 so every fourth Sabbath is going to be a new month, 00:40:04.47\00:40:09.30 but it's also a Sabbath, 00:40:09.30\00:40:10.57 and so it's just saying, "From week to week 00:40:11.61\00:40:14.01 and month to month, all flesh will come 00:40:14.01\00:40:16.58 and worship before Me," 00:40:16.58\00:40:17.81 but the new moons were not part of the original law 00:40:19.18\00:40:21.78 or the Ten Commandments, 00:40:21.78\00:40:23.45 they were more connected with the ceremonial services. 00:40:23.45\00:40:26.45 So I know that's sort of a long meandering answer, 00:40:26.45\00:40:28.42 but appreciate your openness, Carol. 00:40:28.42\00:40:30.66 Hope that made sense. 00:40:30.66\00:40:32.03 - And of course, the new moon could fall on any day 00:40:32.03\00:40:34.36 of the week, whereas the seventh day, Sabbath, 00:40:34.36\00:40:36.33 was always on the seventh day of the week, right? 00:40:36.33\00:40:37.67 It didn't change. 00:40:37.67\00:40:38.90 - Now, we have a book I think that talks 00:40:38.90\00:40:40.20 about feast days and Sabbaths. 00:40:40.20\00:40:41.67 - We do, and we'll be happy to send that to anyone 00:40:41.67\00:40:43.64 who calls and asks. 00:40:43.64\00:40:45.17 Want to learn more about the Old Testament feasts? 00:40:45.17\00:40:46.44 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:40:46.44\00:40:49.98 And you can ask for the book "New Moons and Sabbaths," 00:40:49.98\00:40:52.71 how much of those ceremonial laws are binding today, if any, 00:40:52.71\00:40:56.69 Well, you'll be surprised at what the Bible has to say. 00:40:56.69\00:40:59.09 - Yep. - Next caller 00:40:59.09\00:41:00.52 that we have is Heather, listening from California. 00:41:00.52\00:41:02.46 Heather, welcome to the program. 00:41:02.46\00:41:04.19 - [Heather] Thank you for taking my call. 00:41:04.19\00:41:06.33 So I have a question, is it ungodly and a sin 00:41:08.50\00:41:12.40 to get surgery to remove cancer? 00:41:12.40\00:41:14.90 - Why would you think it might be? 00:41:14.90\00:41:16.97 I mean, something generates your question. 00:41:16.97\00:41:19.74 Are you concerned it's a lack of faith or something? 00:41:19.74\00:41:23.01 - [Heather] It was a life or death thing for me 00:41:23.01\00:41:26.11 'cause I had a uterine cancer and some family members 00:41:26.11\00:41:30.65 were telling me, saying, like, 00:41:30.65\00:41:31.69 if I have the doctors remove my uterus 00:41:31.69\00:41:34.86 due to uncontrolled bleeding, then I'm letting Satan win. 00:41:34.86\00:41:39.89 - No, sorry, I'd respectfully disagree. 00:41:41.33\00:41:44.57 I think that I know too many people 00:41:44.57\00:41:46.47 that have their lives saved and lengthened by having, 00:41:46.47\00:41:51.31 you know, practical surgery. 00:41:51.31\00:41:53.74 You know, you don't wanna go to any quack, 00:41:53.74\00:41:55.58 but if you're following the best medical practices 00:41:55.58\00:42:00.22 and you combine faith with good living practices, 00:42:00.22\00:42:04.92 take care of your health, 00:42:04.92\00:42:06.45 but if there's a medical procedure 00:42:06.45\00:42:08.02 and it's gonna help remove cancer, by all means. 00:42:08.02\00:42:12.49 I mean, even in the Bible when Hezekiah was healed, 00:42:12.49\00:42:15.43 God told Isaiah to have him place a pulpis of figs on his 00:42:15.43\00:42:19.93 boil to use some medical procedure, 00:42:19.93\00:42:23.00 and the Bible tells us in Ezekiel, 00:42:23.00\00:42:24.57 "The leaves of the tree are for medicine." 00:42:24.57\00:42:27.21 So using some medical procedure, Luke, 00:42:27.21\00:42:30.21 the one who wrote the Book of Acts, 00:42:30.21\00:42:31.45 the Gospel of Luke, was a physician. 00:42:31.45\00:42:33.95 There's no Bible mandate that we should not use doctors 00:42:33.95\00:42:37.19 and surgery or medical procedures. 00:42:37.19\00:42:39.39 - And you know, God has given certain gifts 00:42:39.39\00:42:40.69 to certain individuals where they have a keen mind, 00:42:40.69\00:42:43.02 they're able to discern what symptoms might be, 00:42:43.02\00:42:46.66 they're able to address the disease. 00:42:46.66\00:42:48.63 Now, ultimately recognize that all healing 00:42:48.63\00:42:50.63 really comes from God, but God can choose to use doctors, 00:42:50.63\00:42:54.00 and nurses, and medicine, and surgery, and we want our faith 00:42:54.00\00:42:58.97 but also utilize the resources He provided. 00:43:00.14\00:43:01.88 - I thank God for good doctors. 00:43:01.88\00:43:03.51 - Absolutely, thank you for your call. 00:43:03.51\00:43:05.51 We've got, let's see, Iran listening from, or Aaron rather, 00:43:05.51\00:43:09.22 Aaron listening from New York. 00:43:09.22\00:43:10.45 Aaron, welcome to the program. 00:43:10.45\00:43:12.02 - Greeting, Pastors. - Yeah. 00:43:13.12\00:43:15.02 - In the first part of Luke 18, 00:43:15.02\00:43:17.53 Jesus told the parable of the persistent widow, 00:43:17.53\00:43:20.60 teaching His followers to keep praying for something 00:43:20.60\00:43:23.10 and not to give up, 00:43:23.10\00:43:24.87 but in Matthew 6:7 00:43:24.87\00:43:28.24 Jesus said to His followers, 00:43:28.24\00:43:30.07 "Do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do, 00:43:30.07\00:43:33.14 for they think that they will be heard 00:43:33.14\00:43:35.28 for their many words." 00:43:35.28\00:43:36.51 My question is, 00:43:37.28\00:43:38.61 how can we pray persistently without using vain repetitions? 00:43:38.61\00:43:42.82 - Yeah, good question, that's a good question, 00:43:43.92\00:43:46.29 and I needed that answered myself 00:43:46.29\00:43:49.12 when I first read those verses. 00:43:49.12\00:43:51.19 Jesus, when He says, "Do not pray in vain repetition 00:43:51.19\00:43:54.00 as the heathen do," you know there are a lot 00:43:54.00\00:43:58.87 of heathen religions that will, 00:43:58.87\00:44:00.47 they'll count a bead and say, every time they say a bead, 00:44:00.47\00:44:02.80 they repeat a prayer. 00:44:02.80\00:44:04.17 They'll just keep saying the same thing over and over again 00:44:04.17\00:44:07.81 as if God is deaf. 00:44:07.81\00:44:09.71 Now, when Elijah prayed for rain, 00:44:09.71\00:44:12.25 he prayed seven times in one day, "Lord, send the rain," 00:44:12.25\00:44:15.28 his prayer may have sounded a little different each time, 00:44:15.28\00:44:17.32 but he kept praying for rain. 00:44:17.32\00:44:19.09 If you're praying for a loved one 00:44:19.09\00:44:20.99 or you're praying about a separate issue, 00:44:20.99\00:44:23.29 there's nothing wrong with repeating that prayer. 00:44:23.29\00:44:25.63 Paul says that he prayed three times about a medical problem 00:44:25.63\00:44:29.23 that he had and then God finally said, "No, Paul, 00:44:29.23\00:44:32.27 stop praying about that because the answer's no." 00:44:32.27\00:44:35.00 (Doug chuckles) 00:44:35.00\00:44:36.37 So you know, but if you're praying for something good, 00:44:36.37\00:44:40.04 the children of Israel, 00:44:41.14\00:44:42.74 they prayed for deliverance from their enemies 00:44:42.74\00:44:45.05 for years sometimes. 00:44:45.05\00:44:47.22 So nothing wrong with praying persistently for a good thing, 00:44:47.22\00:44:50.82 you just don't wanna sit there and go, 00:44:50.82\00:44:53.09 "Lord, feed me now, Lord, feed me now, Lord, feed me now," 00:44:53.09\00:44:56.16 and I've heard heathen prayers that sound like that. 00:44:56.16\00:44:58.83 I would respectfully disagree with the priests 00:44:58.83\00:45:02.86 that tell people that if you wanna be forgiven 00:45:02.86\00:45:05.93 you must repeat the Hail Mary or the Our Father 15 times 00:45:05.93\00:45:10.11 in a row, that's praying in vain repetition, 00:45:10.11\00:45:13.41 but to say, "I'm gonna continue to pray 00:45:13.41\00:45:15.74 for the salvation of a loved one for years," 00:45:15.74\00:45:19.51 that's a different issue, 00:45:19.51\00:45:20.62 there's examples of that in the Bible. 00:45:20.62\00:45:23.08 - Okay, next one that we have is Robert, 00:45:23.08\00:45:25.12 listening in New Jersey. 00:45:25.12\00:45:26.25 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:45:26.25\00:45:27.86 - [Robert] Good evening. Pastors, Doug, and Pastors John. 00:45:29.12\00:45:32.36 - Evening. 00:45:32.36\00:45:33.16 - My question is (indistinct) 00:45:33.16\00:45:36.30 I found a little curious in the the Bible, 00:45:36.30\00:45:38.47 The Bible states that God is not a God of confusion. 00:45:38.47\00:45:42.50 Yet in two instances He seems to have caused that, 00:45:43.87\00:45:47.08 like for example in Genesis 11:7, 00:45:47.08\00:45:51.55 He caused confusion at the Tower of Babel, 00:45:51.55\00:45:55.38 to disrupt the languages 00:45:55.38\00:45:57.62 and then have the people scattered throughout the earth. 00:45:57.62\00:46:01.19 And another instance was the Ammonites who were, like, 00:46:01.19\00:46:06.26 sworn foes of Israel. 00:46:07.50\00:46:09.53 It says that, in the history of Israel, 00:46:09.53\00:46:12.80 Ammonites were among the army, 00:46:13.87\00:46:15.97 allied against King Jehoshaphat 00:46:15.97\00:46:18.31 and God caused confusion among them, 00:46:18.31\00:46:20.61 and they destroyed themselves 00:46:20.61\00:46:22.18 and that's 2 Chronicles 20:1-23. 00:46:22.18\00:46:25.28 - Yep. - So how do we... 00:46:25.28\00:46:28.75 - How do you 00:46:28.75\00:46:30.02 reconcile the two? - How do we make of this? 00:46:30.02\00:46:31.12 - Yeah, God is not the author of confusion. 00:46:31.12\00:46:33.22 I think that's 1 Corinthians 14. 00:46:33.22\00:46:36.06 He says, "Let all things be done decently." 00:46:36.06\00:46:38.03 God, of course, is talking about His people, 00:46:38.03\00:46:40.43 and God was extremely precise 00:46:40.43\00:46:45.30 in telling the children of Israel to be fastidious, clean, 00:46:45.30\00:46:48.87 orderly in what they did in the camp, in the services, 00:46:48.87\00:46:52.57 and Paul repeats that in the church, 00:46:53.64\00:46:56.31 that we should be orderly. 00:46:56.31\00:46:57.95 Order is a blessing of God, 00:46:57.95\00:47:00.55 disorder and chaos is a curse that He often sent 00:47:00.55\00:47:03.82 to the enemies because the people of Babylon 00:47:03.82\00:47:07.26 were rebelling against God, 00:47:07.26\00:47:10.09 He sent them chaos and confusion. 00:47:10.09\00:47:13.03 Many times in the Bible God will confound, 00:47:13.03\00:47:16.73 is one of the words that's used, the enemies, 00:47:16.73\00:47:19.40 and confuse and frustrate their plans. 00:47:19.40\00:47:22.07 He did it to the Amalekites and probably several others. 00:47:22.07\00:47:24.24 I think at one point during the Battle of Gideon, 00:47:24.24\00:47:26.94 they all turned on each other in the chaos, 00:47:26.94\00:47:29.34 and so you'll see that order and organization 00:47:29.34\00:47:34.15 are a blessing that God wants among His people, 00:47:35.55\00:47:38.95 He wants us to strive for that. 00:47:38.95\00:47:40.92 When we reject God and we embrace the devil, 00:47:40.92\00:47:44.16 then you're gonna have disorder and chaos. 00:47:44.16\00:47:46.93 - You know the verse you're referring to? 00:47:46.93\00:47:48.10 You mentioned in passage 1 Corinthians 14, 00:47:48.10\00:47:50.97 there's two parts of the verse that says, 00:47:50.97\00:47:52.33 "For God is not the author of confusion but of peace." 00:47:52.33\00:47:55.37 The next part of the verse says, 00:47:55.37\00:47:56.64 "As in all of the churches of the saints," 00:47:56.64\00:47:59.11 so specifically Paul is speaking about, 00:47:59.11\00:48:01.34 when it comes to worship and it comes to activities 00:48:01.34\00:48:03.68 within the church, there needs to be order, 00:48:03.68\00:48:06.51 things need to be done decently, 00:48:06.51\00:48:08.68 you don't wanna have confusion in the church, 00:48:08.68\00:48:10.62 especially when it comes to worship, 00:48:10.62\00:48:12.42 that's quite different than when God brought a judgment 00:48:12.42\00:48:14.86 upon the Tower of Babel or upon the enemies of God's people. 00:48:14.86\00:48:17.93 Okay, good question- - Good question, yeah. 00:48:19.03\00:48:19.86 - Thank you. 00:48:19.86\00:48:20.66 We've got, let's see, Dave, 00:48:20.66\00:48:21.93 he is listening from Alaska. 00:48:21.93\00:48:23.90 Dave, welcome to the program. 00:48:23.90\00:48:25.40 - [Dave] Thank you, gentlemen, and I appreciate your time. 00:48:26.77\00:48:29.20 I'm gonna try and make this quick and concise. 00:48:29.20\00:48:31.57 Basically I've got a history of mental illness 00:48:32.87\00:48:35.44 and I feel like I've always had this impression 00:48:35.44\00:48:38.38 that someone wants me to be a missionary 00:48:38.38\00:48:41.12 in order to be saved, 00:48:41.12\00:48:42.55 but I can't live without my meds. 00:48:42.55\00:48:44.99 Is Satan capable of impersonating God in order to 00:48:44.99\00:48:48.76 tell them to do something to their own destruction? 00:48:48.76\00:48:51.23 - Okay, good question. 00:48:51.23\00:48:52.39 Is Satan able to impersonate God? 00:48:53.50\00:48:57.97 Well, yes and no. 00:48:57.97\00:48:59.03 In other words, Satan can never be God, 00:48:59.03\00:49:02.14 does he try to deceive people into thinking 00:49:02.14\00:49:04.64 that God is speaking to them? 00:49:04.64\00:49:07.18 Oh yeah. 00:49:07.18\00:49:08.54 There's a lot of religions in the world that are false 00:49:08.54\00:49:10.71 and they're sure God is guiding them, 00:49:10.71\00:49:13.01 and so Satan is impersonating God and he's deceiving. 00:49:13.01\00:49:17.05 So how do we know whether it's God or, you know, 00:49:17.05\00:49:21.26 the devil impersonating God? 00:49:21.26\00:49:22.99 For one thing, we follow His Word, 00:49:22.99\00:49:25.49 we listen to Christian counsel, 00:49:25.49\00:49:27.66 we obey the promptings of His Spirit as in harmony 00:49:27.66\00:49:31.97 with His Word, look for providential openings. 00:49:31.97\00:49:35.30 In fact, you might be blessed by a book I wrote, 00:49:35.30\00:49:40.21 Dave, and it's called "How to Know The Will of God." 00:49:40.21\00:49:44.38 So one of the things that book will do is it'll try 00:49:44.38\00:49:46.85 and give you some tools so you can know, 00:49:46.85\00:49:49.52 is this an impression from the Lord? 00:49:49.52\00:49:51.39 Is God guiding me to be a missionary? 00:49:51.39\00:49:53.25 As you say, or whatever, 00:49:53.25\00:49:54.59 or is this just the devil messing with my head, 00:49:54.59\00:49:56.62 thinking I can't be saved unless I'm a missionary? 00:49:56.62\00:49:59.03 First of all, I don't think God calls everybody 00:49:59.03\00:50:00.96 to be missionaries, 00:50:00.96\00:50:02.60 there are different gifts that are given 00:50:02.60\00:50:04.37 to different people. 00:50:04.37\00:50:05.87 I think that you're looking, 00:50:05.87\00:50:07.14 1 Corinthians 12 and chapter 14 talks about 00:50:07.14\00:50:11.07 different gifts of the Spirit. 00:50:11.07\00:50:12.84 Not everyone's a pastor or a teacher. 00:50:12.84\00:50:15.11 - If you'd like to receive the book, 00:50:15.11\00:50:16.34 I think it's called "Determining the Will of God," 00:50:16.34\00:50:17.98 we'll be happy to send it to you, Dave, 00:50:17.98\00:50:19.61 or anyone who calls and ask. 00:50:19.61\00:50:21.35 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:50:21.35\00:50:24.62 And again, the book is called "Determining the Will of God" 00:50:24.62\00:50:26.52 and we'll be happy to get it in the mail and send it to you. 00:50:26.52\00:50:29.86 We've got Eric listening in New Jersey. 00:50:29.86\00:50:31.43 Eric, welcome to the program. 00:50:31.43\00:50:32.96 - [Eric] Hi, good night, God bless you, guys. 00:50:34.73\00:50:37.37 - Thank you. - I have a question 00:50:37.37\00:50:38.83 in Matthew 4:5, say that, 00:50:38.83\00:50:43.81 I hope you understand me, 00:50:46.81\00:50:48.38 that, "Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, 00:50:48.38\00:50:52.95 taking Him to the pinnacle of the temple." 00:50:54.08\00:50:57.12 - [Doug] Yes. 00:50:57.12\00:50:58.09 - My question is how the devil, 00:50:58.09\00:51:02.36 the devil took Jesus, because Jesus was a man. 00:51:02.36\00:51:06.90 - Yes. 00:51:06.90\00:51:08.26 Well, that tells us something about the power of the devil. 00:51:08.26\00:51:11.67 Now, whether the devil physically put Him there, 00:51:11.67\00:51:15.37 I'm inclined to think he did because he wanted Him to jump 00:51:15.37\00:51:18.34 and physically die, but that tells you something 00:51:18.34\00:51:22.18 about the devil, 00:51:22.18\00:51:23.51 to actually transport three-dimensional objects, 00:51:23.51\00:51:26.11 or people, or creatures, 00:51:26.11\00:51:27.58 so it says he took 'em up to the temple, 00:51:29.68\00:51:31.72 it probably wasn't just a vision of the temple, 00:51:31.72\00:51:35.22 and said, "Throw yourself down." 00:51:35.22\00:51:36.89 By the way, I was reading this week that the, is it Josephus 00:51:38.29\00:51:42.80 tells us, I believe, that James, 00:51:43.70\00:51:46.20 the brother of Jesus, so angered the scribes, 00:51:46.20\00:51:49.80 they ultimately took him to the top of the temple 00:51:49.80\00:51:51.61 and threw him off, same place where the devil 00:51:51.61\00:51:53.58 took Jesus, the brother of James, 00:51:53.58\00:51:55.48 the brother of Jesus or half-brother, 00:51:55.48\00:51:57.45 was tossed off the temple. 00:51:57.45\00:52:00.48 So I think, yeah, the devil took Him up there. 00:52:00.48\00:52:03.82 What do you think? - Yeah, absolutely. 00:52:03.82\00:52:05.19 And of course the devil does have power to move things. 00:52:05.19\00:52:08.12 I mean, there are those who are involved 00:52:08.12\00:52:11.09 in a different seance or cults, 00:52:11.09\00:52:13.46 and they'll testify that things do move, 00:52:13.46\00:52:16.06 tables move, people move, 00:52:16.06\00:52:17.50 so the devil does the power to move things. 00:52:17.50\00:52:19.77 - Yeah. - And move people. 00:52:19.77\00:52:20.90 - It happens on Star Trek, 00:52:20.90\00:52:22.04 it must be true. (both laugh) 00:52:22.04\00:52:24.31 - Must be true, huh? (laughs) 00:52:24.31\00:52:25.84 - Yeah. 00:52:25.84\00:52:26.64 - All right. - Sorry, folks, 00:52:26.64\00:52:27.31 forgive me for that. 00:52:27.31\00:52:28.38 - Thank you, thank you, Eric, for your call. 00:52:28.38\00:52:30.51 We've got Brian listening in Washington. 00:52:30.51\00:52:32.35 Brian, welcome to the program. 00:52:32.35\00:52:33.92 - [Brian] Hi Doug, hi Ross. 00:52:35.98\00:52:37.25 - Hi. - I've got a question 00:52:37.25\00:52:39.92 on Genesis 32:22-32. - Yeah. 00:52:39.92\00:52:44.99 - Can you explain the purpose of Jacob's wrestling with God 00:52:46.39\00:52:49.80 and why his hip was permanently displaced? 00:52:49.80\00:52:53.77 - Okay, yeah, I'll do my best. 00:52:53.77\00:52:56.91 Of course, Jacob had deceived his parents and his brother, 00:52:56.91\00:53:01.88 and through the, he tried to steal his birthright. 00:53:03.24\00:53:07.02 Now he's coming back into the promised land 00:53:07.02\00:53:09.68 and he's wanting to know that God forgave him. 00:53:09.68\00:53:13.02 I think Jacob wrestling with the angel, 00:53:13.02\00:53:14.72 of course, you can't wrestle with God, 00:53:14.72\00:53:16.06 God can pin you in a fraction of a second, 00:53:16.06\00:53:18.49 God can toss you out of the ring, 00:53:18.49\00:53:20.33 so how do you wrestle with God? 00:53:20.33\00:53:22.86 That is, I think, God allowed that 00:53:22.86\00:53:25.00 to show that sometimes we wrestle with God in prayer. 00:53:25.00\00:53:27.97 Jacob went off by himself to pray and then the man appears, 00:53:27.97\00:53:32.57 and he thought that maybe there was some vandal or robber, 00:53:32.57\00:53:35.81 and Jacob instinctively, you know, 00:53:35.81\00:53:38.55 goes to defend himself and one hold after another 00:53:38.55\00:53:41.92 doesn't seem to work, and they wrestled for quite a while 00:53:41.92\00:53:46.32 and I think it's there to depict prayer, 00:53:46.32\00:53:49.82 and it actually talks about the time of Jacob's trouble 00:53:49.82\00:53:53.83 in the prophecies, and I forget, is it Jeremiah? 00:53:53.83\00:53:58.10 Is it time of Jacob's trouble? 00:53:58.10\00:53:59.83 And it depicts this wrestling. 00:53:59.83\00:54:02.24 So finally Jacob, the angel touches him 00:54:02.24\00:54:05.31 and it puts his hip outta joint, 00:54:05.31\00:54:07.71 he really had to be humbled but he would not let go, 00:54:09.04\00:54:11.58 even though he is in intense pain, 00:54:11.58\00:54:12.71 he would not let go of God, and he said, 00:54:12.71\00:54:14.52 "I will not let You go unless You bless me. 00:54:14.52\00:54:16.99 This is where Jacob gets his name changed to Israel, 00:54:16.99\00:54:19.95 "One who triumphs as a prince with God," 00:54:19.95\00:54:23.02 and when we hang on to God's promises, we triumph, 00:54:23.02\00:54:26.16 we get a new name. 00:54:26.16\00:54:27.23 There's just a whole scenario in that, 00:54:27.23\00:54:29.50 in the context of wrestling in prayer. 00:54:29.50\00:54:32.23 - I think the verse you're referring to, 00:54:32.23\00:54:33.57 pastor, Jeremiah 30:7 talks about Jacob's wrestling, 00:54:33.57\00:54:38.01 Jacob's time of trouble, and of course 00:54:38.01\00:54:40.04 that's the type of God's people in the last days, 00:54:40.04\00:54:42.11 their faith will be tried and they will have 00:54:42.11\00:54:44.51 to claim those promises and hold on to them. 00:54:44.51\00:54:46.82 In essence, they go through a Jacob's time of trouble. 00:54:46.82\00:54:49.15 - Yes, that's true. 00:54:49.15\00:54:50.55 Now, listening friends, we are gonna be wrapping up. 00:54:50.55\00:54:52.82 We sort of do this in two stages. 00:54:52.82\00:54:54.59 For our friends listening on satellite radio, 00:54:54.59\00:54:56.93 we're gonna say, God bless, until next week, 00:54:56.93\00:54:59.56 the rest of you, stay tuned, 00:54:59.56\00:55:01.73 we're gonna be doing some rapid fire internet questions 00:55:01.73\00:55:04.33 that have come in in just a moment. 00:55:04.33\00:55:06.20 (inspiring music) 00:55:07.14\00:55:09.77 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:09.77\00:55:12.37 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:12.37\00:55:16.08 Bible Answers Live is produced 00:55:16.08\00:55:17.91 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:17.91\00:55:20.22 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:20.22\00:55:24.42 - Hello friends, welcome back to Bible Answers Live, 00:55:25.75\00:55:27.99 and we are gonna be taking some of your email 00:55:27.99\00:55:30.39 and internet questions that have come in, 00:55:30.39\00:55:32.16 and if you have a Bible question that you'd like 00:55:32.16\00:55:34.00 to email to us, 00:55:34.00\00:55:35.40 the email address is balquestions@amazingfacts.org, 00:55:35.40\00:55:38.87 balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:40.77\00:55:43.47 Right, Pastor Doug, we have Charlene from England 00:55:43.47\00:55:45.81 and she'd like to know where did Cain find his wife? 00:55:45.81\00:55:49.64 - Yeah, that's a a common question 00:55:49.64\00:55:51.68 because people begin reading the Bible 00:55:51.68\00:55:54.08 and then after Cain kills his brother 00:55:54.08\00:55:56.79 and he's sort of evicted to the land of Nod, 00:55:56.79\00:56:00.12 God places the mark on Cain, 00:56:00.12\00:56:01.69 it says Cain took his wife and you go, "Wait a second here, 00:56:01.69\00:56:06.36 there was Cain and Abel, he kills his brother, 00:56:06.36\00:56:08.50 there's only Adam and Eve, where's the wife come from?" 00:56:08.50\00:56:11.80 Well, when you get to Genesis 5, 00:56:11.80\00:56:13.77 we realize that it only mentions the firstborn boys, 00:56:13.77\00:56:17.31 typically in this patriarchal society, 00:56:17.31\00:56:20.84 it says Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters, 00:56:20.84\00:56:24.48 and so Cain, and Seth, and the other patriarchs, 00:56:24.48\00:56:29.55 they often married their sisters, 00:56:30.62\00:56:31.69 they had to marry their sisters. 00:56:31.69\00:56:33.36 If you think about it, Adam sort of married his sister. 00:56:33.36\00:56:36.79 I mean, they both were created by the same parent 00:56:36.79\00:56:40.33 you might say, and you go further down in the Bible, 00:56:40.33\00:56:43.40 Abraham married his half-sister, 00:56:43.40\00:56:45.57 Jacob married his first cousin. 00:56:46.60\00:56:48.44 It was not, there was no genetic problems 00:56:48.44\00:56:50.61 when they married their sisters back in the beginning 00:56:50.61\00:56:52.77 'cause people's genes were perfectly robust. 00:56:52.77\00:56:57.01 - Okay, another question that we have, Linda's asking, 00:56:57.01\00:56:58.85 "Did Jesus take the Nazarite vow?" 00:56:58.85\00:57:01.28 - Yeah, good question. 00:57:02.05\00:57:03.02 It doesn't specifically say it, 00:57:03.02\00:57:04.59 but it is possible that Jesus took the Nazarite vow 00:57:04.59\00:57:07.59 or that Mary and Joseph had Jesus follow that vow 00:57:07.59\00:57:10.96 up until His baptism. 00:57:10.96\00:57:12.49 A person might take the vow for a limited period of time, 00:57:12.49\00:57:15.76 or a person might take the vow until, 00:57:15.76\00:57:17.90 you know, a certain age, 00:57:17.90\00:57:19.70 and certainly when Christ was baptized it says, 00:57:19.70\00:57:22.30 then He was, you know, drinking grape juice, 00:57:22.30\00:57:24.34 which a Nazarite was not supposed to do, 00:57:24.34\00:57:26.61 that's why so many artists depict Jesus with longer hair 00:57:26.61\00:57:30.58 'cause the Nazarites were not supposed 00:57:30.58\00:57:32.11 to cut their hair like Samson. 00:57:32.11\00:57:34.35 Samuel had taken the Nazarite vow, 00:57:34.35\00:57:37.12 and, but he probably took it for life. 00:57:37.12\00:57:39.32 So we don't know, 00:57:39.32\00:57:41.02 but it is possible He took it up until His baptism. 00:57:41.02\00:57:44.39 - Okay, we have another question. 00:57:44.39\00:57:45.53 How do we know if we have true faith 00:57:45.53\00:57:47.93 without being presumptuous? 00:57:47.93\00:57:49.43 - Yeah, how do you know if you, 00:57:50.60\00:57:52.23 the Bible says you don't wanna tempt the Lord, 00:57:52.23\00:57:54.67 you don't say, "Lord, I've got faith 00:57:54.67\00:57:55.80 that I can jump off the temple," 00:57:55.80\00:57:57.64 'cause that is tempting the Lord, 00:57:57.64\00:57:59.71 but if there's something in God's Word 00:57:59.71\00:58:02.38 where He is giving us some direction, 00:58:02.38\00:58:04.75 we can follow that with confidence, 00:58:04.75\00:58:07.02 and other examples in the Bible we know are safe. 00:58:07.02\00:58:10.15 That uses up all our question times for this program. 00:58:10.15\00:58:12.52 Friends, God willing, we'll be studying His Word together 00:58:12.52\00:58:14.92 with you again next week. 00:58:14.92\00:58:16.12 (inspiring music) 00:58:16.12\00:58:18.09 - [Announcer] Bible answers live, 00:58:18.09\00:58:19.89 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.89\00:58:23.30 (inspiring music) 00:58:23.30\00:58:26.20
