(triumphant orchestral music) 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.00 - [Announcer] - It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.00\00:00:05.80 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.80\00:00:09.87 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.87\00:00:13.84 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.84\00:00:16.61 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.61\00:00:19.95 Welcome to Bible Answers Live, providing accurate 00:00:19.95\00:00:23.92 and practical answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.92\00:00:27.56 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.82\00:00:31.49 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.49\00:00:34.00 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.00\00:00:38.97 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.87\00:00:44.14 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:45.61\00:00:48.31 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.31\00:00:50.65 - Hello, friends! 00:00:50.65\00:00:51.88 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.88\00:00:54.75 In 2019, contractors in North Yorkshire, England 00:00:54.75\00:00:58.85 were renovating someone's kitchen. 00:00:58.85\00:01:01.02 After prying up the old wooden floorboards 00:01:01.02\00:01:03.59 and breaking through six inches of concrete, 00:01:03.59\00:01:05.86 they unearthed a glazed cup similar in size to a soda can. 00:01:05.86\00:01:10.37 In and around the cup, they found 260 gold coins, 00:01:10.37\00:01:15.10 dating between 1610 and 1727. 00:01:15.10\00:01:18.81 The coins were likely hidden there 00:01:18.81\00:01:20.58 by Joseph and Sarah Fernley-Maisters, a wealthy 00:01:20.58\00:01:23.68 merchant couple that once lived in the house and evidently 00:01:23.68\00:01:26.85 didn't have much faith in the local banks of their day. 00:01:26.85\00:01:30.22 The estimated value of the treasure is more than $290,000, 00:01:30.22\00:01:33.92 which would help pay for the remodeled kitchen. 00:01:35.96\00:01:38.76 I don't know what you think, Pastor Ross. 00:01:38.76\00:01:40.50 Maybe they'll have some left over to bury under the floor. 00:01:40.50\00:01:42.36 - That's right, maybe for the next person 00:01:42.36\00:01:43.70 who buys the house. (Jean laughs) 00:01:43.70\00:01:45.20 But you think of all of the hard work that they put 00:01:45.20\00:01:47.00 into trying to gather this treasure, and then they bury it, 00:01:47.00\00:01:50.24 and evidently, they didn't pass it on to their children, 00:01:50.24\00:01:53.71 or they died tragically, they forgot about it. 00:01:53.71\00:01:56.81 And here many years later, somebody uncovers it 00:01:56.81\00:01:59.41 while they're remodeling the kitchen. 00:01:59.41\00:02:00.95 It almost seems a waste. 00:02:00.95\00:02:02.32 They could have used it 00:02:02.32\00:02:03.39 for the benefit of others at their time. 00:02:03.39\00:02:06.62 Wouldn't that have been better than just burying it? 00:02:06.62\00:02:08.99 - Yeah, it's sad when people, they hoard money. 00:02:08.99\00:02:12.46 I mean, they could at least pass it onto their heirs 00:02:14.00\00:02:16.77 or something, give it to a foundation, but this got buried 00:02:16.77\00:02:20.60 and discovered centuries later by strangers. 00:02:20.60\00:02:23.64 I think there's actually a proverb that talks about that. 00:02:25.17\00:02:28.21 Jesus tells us in Luke chapter 12 verse 16, 00:02:28.21\00:02:31.18 "He spoke this parable to them, saying, 00:02:31.18\00:02:34.05 "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully, 00:02:34.05\00:02:37.22 "and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, 00:02:37.22\00:02:39.89 "since I have no room to store all my crops?" 00:02:39.89\00:02:42.76 He thought a little bit, 00:02:42.76\00:02:43.83 and then he said, "This is what I'll do. 00:02:43.83\00:02:45.36 "I'll pull down my barns and I'll build greater, 00:02:45.36\00:02:48.20 "and there I'll store all my crops and my goods. 00:02:48.20\00:02:50.73 "I'll say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods 00:02:50.73\00:02:53.74 "laid up for many years; take your ease. 00:02:53.74\00:02:56.30 "Eat, drink, and be merry. 00:02:56.30\00:02:58.74 "But God said to him, Fool, this night your soul 00:02:58.74\00:03:02.68 "will be required of you; then whose will those things be 00:03:02.68\00:03:06.85 "for which you have provided? 00:03:06.85\00:03:08.75 "So is he who lays up treasure for himself 00:03:08.75\00:03:11.45 "and is not rich towards God." 00:03:11.45\00:03:14.09 - Yeah, it's an amazing parable. 00:03:14.09\00:03:15.39 Here you have this person who's been blessed, 00:03:15.39\00:03:17.73 and they think, "Well, I'm gonna hoard 00:03:17.73\00:03:18.96 all of these blessings to myself," 00:03:18.96\00:03:20.73 but in reality, it would have been better 00:03:20.73\00:03:22.63 if he used it to build up the kingdom of heaven. 00:03:22.63\00:03:24.57 I'm reminded of the other verse, Pastor Doug, 00:03:24.57\00:03:26.17 that says, "Lay up for yourselves not treasure on 00:03:26.17\00:03:29.97 earth, "but rather in heaven, and where your treasure is, 00:03:29.97\00:03:32.74 "that's where your heart will be also." 00:03:32.74\00:03:34.11 So the principle that we find in the Bible is that 00:03:34.11\00:03:37.25 there is an investment that believers can be involved in 00:03:37.25\00:03:40.58 that actually earns dividends throughout eternity. 00:03:40.58\00:03:44.12 We can lay up treasure in heaven. 00:03:44.12\00:03:45.82 - And you know, it is true, 00:03:45.82\00:03:47.16 and I don't wanna sound like a prosperity preacher, 00:03:47.16\00:03:48.96 but there is some truth to the scripture, the principle that 00:03:48.96\00:03:53.03 with what measure you mete, it'll be measured to you. 00:03:53.03\00:03:56.50 Jesus tells us that if we're generous, 00:03:56.50\00:03:58.87 that men will heap into your bosom. 00:03:58.87\00:04:01.24 People will be generous with you. 00:04:01.24\00:04:03.30 God says if you prove Him, 00:04:03.30\00:04:04.44 test Him when it comes to tithe and offering, 00:04:04.44\00:04:06.51 He says "See if I don't open for you the windows of heaven." 00:04:06.51\00:04:09.11 So even in this life, 00:04:09.11\00:04:11.18 it's more blessed to give than receive, 00:04:11.18\00:04:12.75 'cause it seems like blessings ricochet. 00:04:12.75\00:04:15.18 They come back. - Absolutely. 00:04:15.18\00:04:16.42 You know, a lot of people are wondering, 00:04:16.42\00:04:17.55 what are the biblical principles for money? 00:04:17.55\00:04:19.39 As you mentioned, Pastor Doug, there's some confusion, 00:04:19.39\00:04:21.36 even in the Christian world, 00:04:21.36\00:04:22.42 as to how we ought to use our resources. 00:04:22.42\00:04:24.49 Amazing Facts has a study guide. 00:04:24.49\00:04:26.06 It's called In God We Trust, 00:04:26.06\00:04:27.86 and it deals with the subject of money. 00:04:27.86\00:04:29.40 You'll be surprised, Jesus said quite a bit 00:04:29.40\00:04:31.43 about finances and how we ought to use money. 00:04:31.43\00:04:34.30 We'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:04:34.30\00:04:36.74 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:04:36.74\00:04:40.54 That is our resource phone line. 00:04:40.54\00:04:42.18 You can ask for offer number 135, 00:04:42.18\00:04:44.51 or you can ask for the study guide by name. 00:04:44.51\00:04:46.35 It's called In God We Trust. 00:04:46.35\00:04:48.68 We'll send that to anyone in North America. 00:04:48.68\00:04:50.45 If you're listening outside of North America, 00:04:50.45\00:04:52.72 we encourage you to go to our Amazing Facts website, 00:04:52.72\00:04:54.89 just amazingfacts.org, and you'll be able 00:04:54.89\00:04:57.83 to read the study guide right there online. 00:04:57.83\00:05:00.56 Of course, maybe that's a good time, Pastor Doug, 00:05:00.56\00:05:02.40 for us to welcome those who are listening 00:05:02.40\00:05:04.97 across the country and around the world. 00:05:04.97\00:05:06.53 For those of you who might not know, 00:05:06.53\00:05:07.80 this is a radio program. 00:05:07.80\00:05:09.50 We're broadcasting on a number of land-based stations, 00:05:09.50\00:05:11.77 also on satellite radio. 00:05:11.77\00:05:13.81 But we're also a TV program now, 00:05:13.81\00:05:16.44 and we are broadcasting live at Amazing Facts TV. 00:05:16.44\00:05:19.91 We're also streaming this live on the internet, 00:05:19.91\00:05:21.88 the Doug Batchelor Facebook page, 00:05:21.88\00:05:23.72 the Amazing Facts Facebook page, so we wanna welcome 00:05:23.72\00:05:26.65 all of those who are tuned in and part of our program. 00:05:26.65\00:05:29.69 If you have a Bible-related question, 00:05:29.69\00:05:31.86 the phone line to call is 800-463-7297. 00:05:31.86\00:05:36.40 That's 800-463-7297. 00:05:36.40\00:05:40.47 And if you're watching this on the internet 00:05:40.47\00:05:42.77 or you're watching it on one of the networks, 00:05:42.77\00:05:44.91 I think we're re-broadcasting, Pastor Doug, 00:05:44.91\00:05:46.88 on some other networks, 3BM and Hope TV, 00:05:46.88\00:05:49.84 so we wanna greet those. - Amen. - All right, 00:06:26.68\00:06:28.05 I think we're ready for our first caller this evening! 00:06:28.05\00:06:29.92 We've got Patrick, and he's calling from Canada. 00:06:29.92\00:06:32.59 Patrick, you're on the air. 00:06:32.59\00:06:33.99 - [Patrick] Good evening, pastors. 00:06:35.32\00:06:36.86 - Evening! 00:06:36.86\00:06:37.79 - [Patrick] Thank you, I have a question 00:06:38.86\00:06:40.96 in regards to Ezekiel chapter four verse nine. 00:06:40.96\00:06:44.67 I'd like to find out if that has any relation 00:06:44.67\00:06:48.50 to the Ezekiel bread that is sold today, and verse 12, 00:06:48.50\00:06:53.58 if that has any relationship to do with verse nine. 00:06:56.51\00:07:00.32 - Yeah, well, some people have taken 00:07:01.68\00:07:03.62 the verses here in Ezekiel four, 00:07:03.62\00:07:05.52 and lemme read it for our friends that are listening. 00:07:05.52\00:07:08.32 We just wanna remember that 00:07:08.32\00:07:09.59 90% of the people listening to the program, 00:07:09.59\00:07:12.33 they can't maybe look it up right at the moment. 00:07:12.33\00:07:15.33 But it says here in Ezekiel verse nine, this is a prophecy 00:07:15.33\00:07:18.30 that came to the prophet Ezekiel from the Lord. 00:07:18.30\00:07:20.87 "Also take for yourself wheat, barley, 00:07:20.87\00:07:23.14 "beans, lentils, millet, and spelt. 00:07:23.14\00:07:25.47 "Put them in one vessel and make bread of them for yourself. 00:07:25.47\00:07:28.88 "During the number of days that you lie on your side, 00:07:28.88\00:07:31.78 "390 days, you shall eat it, and it shall be your food. 00:07:31.78\00:07:35.22 "You shall eat by weight 20 shekels a day 00:07:35.22\00:07:37.82 "from the time that you shall eat it. 00:07:37.82\00:07:39.89 "You shall also drink water by measure, 1/6 of a hin, 00:07:39.89\00:07:42.59 "from the time you shall drink. 00:07:42.59\00:07:44.49 "And you'll eat it as barley cakes 00:07:44.49\00:07:46.26 "and bake it using the fuel of human waste in their sight." 00:07:46.26\00:07:50.30 Now, that certainly would not be a good recipe 00:07:50.30\00:07:52.70 for health-conscious people to follow. 00:07:52.70\00:07:56.10 I think God is telling Ezekiel, by living out this parable, 00:07:56.10\00:08:00.31 he was describing the period of time 00:08:00.31\00:08:03.71 that the people in Israel and Judea that remained behind 00:08:03.71\00:08:06.65 were gonna be experiencing some famine. 00:08:06.65\00:08:09.42 And they were taking everything they could find 00:08:09.42\00:08:13.42 and putting it in their bread. 00:08:13.42\00:08:15.36 Now, people have made, I've eaten Ezekiel bread before. 00:08:15.36\00:08:17.56 They made some good-tasting bread 00:08:17.56\00:08:18.89 by combining these different elements. 00:08:18.89\00:08:22.16 When Ezekiel protests, he says, "Lord, 00:08:23.53\00:08:25.83 "I can't bake this over human waste, that's unclean! 00:08:25.83\00:08:28.34 "I'm a priest! 00:08:28.34\00:08:29.44 "I've never done anything unclean!" 00:08:29.44\00:08:30.77 God says, "Well, I'm gonna let you use cow dung instead." 00:08:30.77\00:08:34.51 And for ages, people have actually cooked on buffalo chips 00:08:34.51\00:08:38.51 and animal dung. (Doug laughs) 00:08:38.51\00:08:40.15 You've probably seen it in Africa. 00:08:40.15\00:08:41.95 So that was not that uncommon. 00:08:41.95\00:08:44.05 But this is a parable that Ezekiel was living out 00:08:44.05\00:08:47.02 talking about the hardship 00:08:47.02\00:08:48.36 that God's people were gonna go through. 00:08:48.36\00:08:50.16 It's not necessarily a recipe for health bread. 00:08:50.16\00:08:53.83 - That's right, and the context that you mentioned there, 00:08:53.83\00:08:56.36 Pastor Doug, they were making bread 00:08:56.36\00:08:58.33 out of whatever they could find. 00:08:58.33\00:08:59.83 Typically in the Bible, 00:08:59.83\00:09:01.24 the best kind of bread was bread made from wheat, 00:09:01.24\00:09:04.07 but here in this situation, wheat was hard to come by, 00:09:04.07\00:09:06.88 and so they were using some wheat, 00:09:06.88\00:09:08.48 but they were mixing whatever they could find. 00:09:08.48\00:09:10.25 - Barley was usually for the animals. 00:09:10.25\00:09:12.18 That's a prophecy in Revelation that says, 00:09:12.18\00:09:15.02 what is it, a measure of barley for a penny? 00:09:15.02\00:09:16.72 It's talking about a time of famine. 00:09:16.72\00:09:18.49 - That's right, yeah, shortness. 00:09:18.49\00:09:20.16 Well, thank you for your call, Patrick! 00:09:20.16\00:09:21.29 We hope that helped, and there is, as mentioned, 00:09:21.29\00:09:24.53 there is a bread that's called Ezekiel bread, 00:09:24.53\00:09:26.70 and I don't know if they use every single one of these items 00:09:26.70\00:09:29.60 listed here, but it is pretty good. 00:09:29.60\00:09:31.77 Thomas listening in Minnesota. 00:09:32.73\00:09:34.37 Thomas, welcome to the program, you're on the air. 00:09:34.37\00:09:36.74 - [Thomas] Yeah, I'm having trouble explaining myself. 00:09:36.74\00:09:37.91 Let me explain. 00:09:37.91\00:09:39.27 Basically speaking, I ran across something, let's see. 00:09:39.27\00:09:42.21 We have something in my Roku network 00:09:42.21\00:09:45.81 called Special Projects: Prophecy Alert. 00:09:45.81\00:09:48.52 Let me explain. 00:09:48.52\00:09:50.22 They explain some activity on Pope Francis, 00:09:50.22\00:09:53.69 one of which was of course trying to unify 00:09:53.69\00:09:56.86 all the Christians together and have a one-world religion. 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.76 Secondly, we had him go to the Temple Mount 00:09:59.76\00:10:03.03 and try to negotiate peace with the Palestinians. 00:10:03.03\00:10:05.57 Now, according to this thing, now, 00:10:05.57\00:10:07.97 the reference I'm making here, the Prophecy Alert is called 00:10:07.97\00:10:12.11 Special Projects: Prophecy Alert Three of Eight. 00:10:12.11\00:10:16.48 So, at least the article said that was very significant, 00:10:17.81\00:10:22.45 and in fact, the events that were occurring were actually, 00:10:22.45\00:10:27.52 they cited II Thessalonians chapter four, one to four. 00:10:28.89\00:10:31.03 So any significance to that? - Oh, okay, thank you. 00:10:31.03\00:10:34.20 Let's go to the verse that you mentioned, II Thessalonians 00:10:34.20\00:10:37.10 chapter two, verses one through four, yeah, yeah. 00:10:37.10\00:10:39.30 "Now brethren, concerning the coming 00:10:39.30\00:10:40.90 "of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, 00:10:40.90\00:10:43.81 "we ask you not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, 00:10:43.81\00:10:47.24 "either by spirit or by word or by letter from us, 00:10:47.24\00:10:50.55 "as though the day of the Lord had come." 00:10:50.55\00:10:52.48 Paul is telling the Thessalonians, he says, 00:10:52.48\00:10:55.15 there was a lot of excitement that the day of the Lord 00:10:55.15\00:10:57.05 had already come, and he said, "Let no one deceive you 00:10:57.05\00:10:59.82 "by any means, for that day will not come 00:10:59.82\00:11:02.39 "unless there is a falling away that comes first, 00:11:02.39\00:11:05.29 "and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 00:11:05.29\00:11:09.43 "who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God 00:11:09.43\00:11:12.83 "or worshiped so that he sits as God 00:11:12.83\00:11:15.37 "in the temple of God showing himself that he is God." 00:11:15.37\00:11:18.37 So let's talk about that verse. 00:11:18.37\00:11:20.61 It's hard for me to comment 00:11:20.61\00:11:21.98 on what you may have seen at a website somewhere, 00:11:21.98\00:11:24.28 but most Protestants, I mean, like Luther and Spurgeon 00:11:25.75\00:11:30.69 and Wesley and many others, Calvin and John Knox, 00:11:30.69\00:11:35.76 they identified this verse, 00:11:36.56\00:11:37.66 the man of sin they believed was the pope. 00:11:37.66\00:11:39.56 They believed it was a religious leader 00:11:39.56\00:11:41.90 that was putting himself in a place to be worshiped, 00:11:41.90\00:11:44.57 putting himself over the temple of God. 00:11:44.57\00:11:46.67 Now, keep in mind, one of the terms for the church 00:11:46.67\00:11:49.54 as the body of Christ, Jesus said we are living stones. 00:11:49.54\00:11:54.14 Christ said, "Destroy this temple made with hands. 00:11:54.14\00:11:56.14 "In three days, I will make one without hands." 00:11:56.14\00:11:58.38 He's talking about His body, which is the Church. 00:11:58.38\00:12:01.28 So Paul says, "What, don't you know that ye are the temple 00:12:02.65\00:12:04.85 "of God," meaning collectively, we are the temple. 00:12:04.85\00:12:07.49 So they understood that for the pope to say, 00:12:07.49\00:12:09.66 "I am in charge of the Church," where Jesus really never 00:12:09.66\00:12:12.53 assigned any one pastor or apostle to be over everything; 00:12:12.53\00:12:16.83 you see it bouncing between Paul and Peter 00:12:16.83\00:12:19.17 and James in the New Testament; 00:12:19.17\00:12:20.84 they said that was Antichrist behavior. 00:12:22.30\00:12:26.74 And it's interesting to know that the first person 00:12:26.74\00:12:29.91 who called the office of pope "Antichrist" was a pope. 00:12:29.91\00:12:34.32 - That's right. (Jean laughs) 00:12:34.32\00:12:35.38 - It's Pope Gregory. (both laughing) 00:12:35.38\00:12:37.05 - There was quite a fight that went on between, 00:12:37.05\00:12:39.65 well, two individuals claimed to be pope, 00:12:39.65\00:12:42.06 and they went back and forth, accusing one another 00:12:42.06\00:12:44.53 of being the Antichrist. - That's right. 00:12:44.53\00:12:46.80 That was during the time of Marco Polo. 00:12:46.80\00:12:48.60 - Yes, absolutely. - He was trying to get 00:12:48.60\00:12:50.13 missionaries, and they were fighting among themselves, 00:12:50.13\00:12:51.90 calling each other antichrists. 00:12:51.90\00:12:53.50 - That's right, and then it occurred later on 00:12:53.50\00:12:54.77 during the time of the Reformation, 00:12:54.77\00:12:56.07 where the Reformers even pointed that out. 00:12:56.07\00:12:57.91 So it's happened more than once, 00:12:57.91\00:12:59.44 where there was different individuals vying for power. 00:12:59.44\00:13:02.31 - So what's happening now, and based on the question 00:13:02.31\00:13:04.41 that Josiah, or Thomas, rather, is asking, is that, 00:13:04.41\00:13:08.68 since the Protestant churches all came 00:13:09.78\00:13:11.79 out of the Catholic church, in succeeding generations, 00:13:11.79\00:13:14.92 that animosity has dissipated, 00:13:14.92\00:13:16.83 and the Pope is calling Protestants to reunite again, 00:13:16.83\00:13:20.06 and we are seeing a big movement towards that. 00:13:20.06\00:13:22.73 Pope Francis has reached out to the Russian Orthodox 00:13:22.73\00:13:26.50 and the Greek Orthodox and the Coptic Church leaders, 00:13:26.50\00:13:29.64 and Charismatics in North America 00:13:29.64\00:13:31.47 have gone to meet with the Pope. 00:13:31.47\00:13:33.61 He's saying, "Look, the most important thing is, 00:13:33.61\00:13:35.64 "let's just be one," and that sounds beautiful, 00:13:35.64\00:13:38.85 but it doesn't mean you sacrifice 00:13:38.85\00:13:40.22 doctrinal truth for the sake of unity. 00:13:40.22\00:13:43.18 And so, that's the thing we need to be careful about. 00:13:43.18\00:13:45.82 - All right, thanks for your call, Thomas. 00:13:45.82\00:13:47.42 We've got Josiah listening as well. 00:13:47.42\00:13:49.72 Josiah listening from New York, welcome to the program. 00:13:49.72\00:13:52.39 - [Josiah] Good evening. 00:13:52.39\00:13:53.63 Just to add to what you just said with the previous caller, 00:13:55.06\00:13:59.50 so aren't you guys all Protestant? 00:14:00.67\00:14:03.81 Don't you all go back to the Catholic Church, like you say? 00:14:03.81\00:14:06.81 - Yeah, well, most Protestants, 00:14:08.01\00:14:10.15 most Protestant denominations, were kind of drawn 00:14:10.15\00:14:14.75 out of the Catholic Church, and they retained 00:14:14.75\00:14:16.72 maybe even some of the theology in their doctrines. 00:14:16.72\00:14:20.02 - Some of the traditions of the church, too. 00:14:20.02\00:14:22.22 - Now, there have been people since then, 00:14:22.22\00:14:24.26 since the Protestant Reformation, 00:14:24.26\00:14:25.73 that came from total paganism; I'm one of 'em. 00:14:25.73\00:14:28.26 I didn't really come from a Christian church. 00:14:28.26\00:14:30.00 I read the Bible, and just said, I'm gonna go by the Bible. 00:14:30.00\00:14:32.80 So there's a lot of people 00:14:32.80\00:14:35.10 that have just kind of come into the truth 00:14:35.10\00:14:37.61 or come to the Lord directly from the Word. 00:14:37.61\00:14:40.98 But several denominations either broke away 00:14:40.98\00:14:44.21 from the Catholic church, or they broke away 00:14:44.21\00:14:46.08 from break-always, which is why you've got 00:14:46.08\00:14:48.35 so many divisions of Methodists and Presbyterians 00:14:48.35\00:14:50.95 and Baptists and Christians in the world today. 00:14:50.95\00:14:54.69 But am I answering your question, Jerry? 00:14:54.69\00:14:57.23 - [Josiah] Oh, that's not the question. 00:14:57.23\00:14:59.09 I just wanted to add to what he was asking. 00:14:59.09\00:15:01.33 But I'm dealing with the same chapter though 00:15:01.33\00:15:05.80 in II Thessalonians. 00:15:05.80\00:15:07.54 You read one through four. 00:15:10.54\00:15:12.84 Can you continue reading to eight, please? 00:15:12.84\00:15:17.61 - All right, lemme start with verse five. 00:15:17.61\00:15:19.78 "Do you not remember that when I was still with you, 00:15:19.78\00:15:21.85 "I told you these things? 00:15:21.85\00:15:23.32 "And now you know what is restraining, 00:15:23.32\00:15:25.59 that he may be revealed in his own time. 00:15:25.59\00:15:27.99 "For the mystery of lawlessness," called in the King 00:15:27.99\00:15:31.29 James "the mystery of iniquity," "is already at work. 00:15:31.29\00:15:34.20 "Only he who now restrains 00:15:34.20\00:15:35.86 "will do so until he is taken out of the way. 00:15:35.86\00:15:38.30 "Then that lawless one will be revealed 00:15:38.30\00:15:40.57 "whom the Lord will consume with the breath of his mouth 00:15:40.57\00:15:42.87 "and destroy with the brightness of his coming." 00:15:42.87\00:15:45.54 So that's the verse I think you're talking about, right? 00:15:45.54\00:15:48.41 - [Josiah] Yeah, it's what I'm talking about. 00:15:49.51\00:15:50.58 It's verse eight and verse three. 00:15:50.58\00:15:54.78 Verse three says, "Let no man deceive you by any means, 00:15:54.78\00:15:58.99 "for that day shall not come 00:15:58.99\00:16:00.89 "except there come a falling away first and that man of sin 00:16:00.89\00:16:05.96 "be revealed, the son of perdition," 00:16:07.10\00:16:08.13 but when you go to verse eight, then it says, 00:16:08.13\00:16:10.40 "And then shall the wicked be revealed, 00:16:11.53\00:16:13.94 "whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth." 00:16:13.94\00:16:19.01 So who is that wicked? 00:16:19.67\00:16:21.91 Where can you go in the Bible, 00:16:21.91\00:16:23.48 'cause I've done some research. 00:16:23.48\00:16:26.51 Who does the Bible say is "the wicked"? 00:16:29.38\00:16:32.95 - Well, first of all, the ultimate wicked one is the 00:16:34.46\00:16:36.66 devil. I mean, you don't find anybody 00:16:36.66\00:16:39.09 that is supervising the devil in wickedness. 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.03 So he would be the supreme power behind the other powers. 00:16:42.03\00:16:46.13 But the devil has been manipulating 00:16:46.13\00:16:48.27 what is called "the beast power" through history. 00:16:48.27\00:16:51.84 It receives a deadly wound, and the deadly wound is healed, 00:16:51.84\00:16:55.11 and like I said, the Protestants understand 00:16:55.11\00:16:58.05 that that was the papacy that became a persecuting power 00:16:58.05\00:17:02.15 during the time of the Inquisition, 00:17:02.15\00:17:04.32 and it's kinda coming back in on the stage now. 00:17:04.32\00:17:07.76 They've got a seat in the United Nations. 00:17:07.76\00:17:09.49 No other church does. - That's right. 00:17:09.49\00:17:11.33 And different named are used. 00:17:11.33\00:17:13.43 Here in the New King James that I have, 00:17:13.43\00:17:15.43 it refers to "the lawless one," and then it goes on 00:17:15.43\00:17:18.60 and it talks about "the son of perdition." 00:17:18.60\00:17:21.24 It's talking about this one who is doing 00:17:21.24\00:17:23.51 "with all unrighteous deception amongst those who perish." 00:17:23.51\00:17:26.71 So it's the same power that's being referred to, 00:17:28.04\00:17:29.48 and we're not talking specifically about one 00:17:29.48\00:17:31.95 individual. We're talking about a position 00:17:31.95\00:17:33.72 and an office. - An office. 00:17:33.72\00:17:34.72 - 'Cause the papal position 00:17:34.72\00:17:36.12 has lasted for almost 2,000 years. 00:17:36.12\00:17:38.19 So it's talking about that system or that power, 00:17:38.19\00:17:41.76 and it's got different names. 00:17:41.76\00:17:43.32 Lawless is interesting, that he's setting aside 00:17:43.32\00:17:45.49 the law of God for manmade law or human tradition. 00:17:45.49\00:17:49.10 - Exactly. 00:17:49.10\00:17:50.50 - So it's one of the identifying marks. 00:17:50.50\00:17:51.83 - You know, for the last two people who've called in, 00:17:51.83\00:17:53.20 we have a study guide that's called Who Is the Antichrist, 00:17:53.20\00:17:55.90 and we encourage them to request that. 00:17:55.90\00:17:57.94 We'll send it to them or anyone listening for free. 00:17:57.94\00:18:00.41 - The free offer numbers is 800-835-6747, 00:18:00.41\00:18:04.41 and you can ask for that study guide. 00:18:04.41\00:18:05.78 It's simply called Who Is the Antichrist. 00:18:05.78\00:18:08.08 It'll get into all of the various Bible verses, 00:18:08.08\00:18:10.29 both here in II Thessalonians, 00:18:10.29\00:18:12.52 but also some of the prophecies in Revelation and Daniel. 00:18:12.52\00:18:16.06 The number again is 800-835-6747. 00:18:16.06\00:18:19.39 You can ask for the study guide Who Is the Antichrist. 00:18:19.39\00:18:22.36 Next caller that we have 00:18:22.36\00:18:23.47 is Liola listening from Massachusetts. 00:18:23.47\00:18:27.50 Liola, welcome to the program! 00:18:27.50\00:18:28.87 - [Liola] Good evening, how are you? 00:18:29.87\00:18:31.81 - Fine, thanks for calling, and your question? 00:18:31.81\00:18:34.34 - [Liola] My question is more for my son. 00:18:35.44\00:18:39.25 What does the Bible say 00:18:39.25\00:18:40.82 about attending prom or school dances? 00:18:40.82\00:18:44.29 Is it allowed? 00:18:44.29\00:18:45.45 - Yeah, well, that would of course depend upon the nature 00:18:46.82\00:18:50.33 of that particular school and what they're doing. 00:18:50.33\00:18:52.19 There are some Christian schools 00:18:52.19\00:18:54.86 that will have graduation galas that are probably 00:18:54.86\00:18:58.40 innocent enough, and a lot of young people 00:18:58.40\00:19:01.64 revel in the idea of dressing up a little bit 00:19:01.64\00:19:04.47 and getting together with classmates, 00:19:04.47\00:19:06.91 and I think the social interaction's important for kids 00:19:06.91\00:19:09.54 during that time in their life. 00:19:09.54\00:19:11.45 Then you could have some schools that are pretty pagan 00:19:11.45\00:19:14.45 where those things turn into a pretty serious rock concert 00:19:14.45\00:19:19.52 where things get out of hand, and the folks are spiking 00:19:21.26\00:19:23.32 the punch, and the dancing is pretty sexually suggestive. 00:19:23.32\00:19:28.36 So it would really depend, Liola. 00:19:29.43\00:19:32.07 You would have to evaluate the school on what their 00:19:32.07\00:19:33.97 standards are and how well things are chaperoned. 00:19:33.97\00:19:37.21 The typical worldly dancing 00:19:37.21\00:19:39.04 is not something I picture Jesus doing. 00:19:39.04\00:19:41.38 But I've actually seen some Christian socials 00:19:42.51\00:19:47.32 where they had these galas where the kids got together, 00:19:47.32\00:19:49.95 and they dressed up, and it was all well-supervised, 00:19:49.95\00:19:51.79 and they had a special meal, 00:19:51.79\00:19:53.62 and it was a memorable occasion for the kids. 00:19:53.62\00:19:55.46 They all took pictures, and they look at them for years 00:19:55.46\00:19:58.43 and see how funny they dressed back then. 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.76 - That's right. (Jean laughs) 00:20:00.76\00:20:01.96 All right, well, thanks for your call. 00:20:01.96\00:20:03.03 We've got Jerry listening in Texas. 00:20:03.03\00:20:04.63 Jerry, welcome to the program! 00:20:04.63\00:20:06.77 - [Jerry] Hey, pastors, hi. 00:20:06.77\00:20:08.20 I had just one additional note, I've been to Doug's church 00:20:09.50\00:20:12.51 in Shiprock. - Oh, good! 00:20:12.51\00:20:14.48 - [Jerry] Anyway, my question, 00:20:14.48\00:20:15.91 (Jerry laughs) it was good. 00:20:15.91\00:20:16.88 We remember them. 00:20:16.88\00:20:18.48 My question, I want to refer to Revelation 8:17, 00:20:18.48\00:20:23.55 where it says there is silence in heaven for one-half hour. 00:20:24.92\00:20:28.86 - Now, there is no verse 17 in Revelation eight. 00:20:28.86\00:20:32.53 - [Jerry] 8:17, I thought. 00:20:33.33\00:20:35.40 I thought it was 8:17. - Eight, verse one, 00:20:35.40\00:20:37.03 "silence in heaven about the space of," yep. 00:20:37.03\00:20:38.63 - [Jerry] Oh, eight verse one, okay. 00:20:38.63\00:20:40.37 - All right, so that's what you wanna know about? 00:20:40.37\00:20:43.30 - [Jerry] The Holy Spirit and our guardian angels 00:20:44.77\00:20:46.37 don't leave us until they appear in the Second Coming 00:20:46.37\00:20:48.98 and they join Jesus, 'cause the guardian angels 00:20:48.98\00:20:52.55 are still with us during the time of probation. 00:20:52.55\00:20:55.68 - Right, well, it is true that God has angels on the earth 00:20:55.68\00:20:59.49 watching over His people; there's no doubt about that. 00:20:59.49\00:21:01.72 If they left us for a minute, we'd be in a lot of trouble. 00:21:01.72\00:21:05.59 But Revelation's talking about things going quiet in heaven, 00:21:05.59\00:21:09.80 and we believe that's because heaven has been vacated. 00:21:09.80\00:21:13.90 Michael has stood up, judgment is over, probation is closed, 00:21:13.90\00:21:17.71 and Christ and his angels come to the earth. 00:21:17.71\00:21:21.28 The Bible says when Jesus comes, all the holy angels 00:21:21.28\00:21:23.71 are with Him, and that would include our guardian angels. 00:21:23.71\00:21:25.58 But that's here on earth. 00:21:25.58\00:21:26.88 Heaven is now quiet because it's been vacated 00:21:26.88\00:21:30.65 as they come to resurrect and to retrieve the redeemed. 00:21:30.65\00:21:35.72 - And anyone who might remain in heaven, 00:21:36.79\00:21:38.46 God the Father, or any of the other angelic beings, 00:21:38.46\00:21:41.10 their focus is gonna be what's happening 00:21:41.10\00:21:43.26 here on the earth, 'cause Christ is coming. 00:21:43.26\00:21:45.33 All the angels are coming with Him. 00:21:45.33\00:21:46.80 So when we read about this half an hour, it's interesting, 00:21:46.80\00:21:49.70 Pastor Doug, what is the half an hour? 00:21:49.70\00:21:52.41 I know we're talking about prophetic time here. 00:21:52.41\00:21:54.58 - Yeah, well, you know, in Bible prophecy, most scholars 00:21:54.58\00:21:58.68 agree that you apply a principle where a day equals a year. 00:21:58.68\00:22:02.98 For instance, when God told the children of Israel, 00:22:02.98\00:22:06.52 for every day that the spies looked at the Promised Land, 00:22:06.52\00:22:09.66 they will wander a year for each day, 00:22:09.66\00:22:11.66 and it turned from 40 days to 40 years. 00:22:11.66\00:22:14.23 It also says that in Ezekiel 4:6. 00:22:14.23\00:22:17.00 Jesus said, "Tell Herod that I will teach and do cures 00:22:17.00\00:22:21.17 "and cast out devils today, tomorrow, 00:22:21.17\00:22:24.17 "and the third day, I will be perfected." 00:22:24.17\00:22:26.41 Jesus did not minister for three more days; 00:22:26.41\00:22:29.34 He ministered for three more years. 00:22:29.34\00:22:30.81 So even Jesus used that principle in a prophecy. 00:22:30.81\00:22:33.52 So if a day equals a year in prophecy, and an hour 00:22:33.52\00:22:38.32 is 1/24 of a day, then one hour, using a day for a year, 00:22:38.32\00:22:43.39 is 15 days, and half an hour would be half of 15, 00:22:44.76\00:22:48.80 which is seven, because it says about the space 00:22:50.03\00:22:51.70 of half an hour. (Doug laughs) 00:22:51.70\00:22:53.10 So of course, that's a great Bible number 00:22:53.10\00:22:54.97 you find all through Revelation. 00:22:54.97\00:22:56.47 There's more sevens than any other number. 00:22:56.47\00:22:58.54 This is the period of time that passes 00:22:58.54\00:23:00.41 when there's silence when Christ comes. 00:23:00.41\00:23:02.78 We don't know how much time He spends coming 00:23:02.78\00:23:04.28 and how much time He spends going back, 00:23:04.28\00:23:06.21 but at least they're gone during that procession. 00:23:06.21\00:23:09.35 - Okay, you know, we do have a study guide 00:23:09.35\00:23:10.82 that talks about the Second Coming of Christ, 00:23:10.82\00:23:13.42 and it's called Ultimate Deliverance. 00:23:13.42\00:23:15.12 We'll by happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:23:15.12\00:23:17.99 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:23:17.99\00:23:21.80 Just ask for the study guide. 00:23:21.80\00:23:22.86 It's all about the Second Coming. 00:23:22.86\00:23:24.07 It's called Ultimate Deliverance, and we'll be happy 00:23:24.07\00:23:26.30 to send that to anyone here in North America. 00:23:26.30\00:23:29.10 We have Masine listening in California. 00:23:29.10\00:23:31.21 Masine, welcome to the program. 00:23:31.21\00:23:33.04 - [Masine] Hello! 00:23:34.04\00:23:35.14 - Hi, thanks for calling. 00:23:35.14\00:23:36.58 - [Masine] Hi, I'm a new Christian. 00:23:38.91\00:23:41.08 My question is, how do I devote myself every morning, 00:23:41.08\00:23:46.15 put on the whole armor of God, and ask for the Holy Spirit 00:23:47.62\00:23:50.93 to be with me throughout my day? 00:23:52.99\00:23:53.90 How do I do that? 00:23:53.90\00:23:55.66 - Great question, one of the most important. 00:23:55.66\00:23:57.90 It's one thing when we come to the Lord, 00:23:57.90\00:24:00.04 and anybody can do that by turning to God and asking Him 00:24:00.04\00:24:04.17 to come into their lives, repenting of their sins 00:24:04.17\00:24:06.41 and saying, "Lord, I'm willing to follow You. 00:24:06.41\00:24:09.61 "I'll take up my cross and I'll follow You." 00:24:09.61\00:24:10.95 But what does it mean 00:24:10.95\00:24:12.01 when it says to die daily, to deny yourself? 00:24:12.01\00:24:15.15 Basically in your devotions, there's three things 00:24:16.62\00:24:20.42 you do to stay healthy as a Christian. 00:24:20.42\00:24:24.13 You breathe, you eat, and you exercise, 00:24:24.13\00:24:27.93 and then of course, you do those things consistently. 00:24:27.93\00:24:30.77 In the holy place of the temple, 00:24:30.77\00:24:32.37 there were three articles of furniture. 00:24:32.37\00:24:34.47 You've got the Holy of holies. 00:24:34.47\00:24:35.80 There's one thing in there; that's the Ark of the Covenant. 00:24:35.80\00:24:37.94 The holy place had the light, it had the table of bread, 00:24:37.94\00:24:42.14 it had the altar of incense. 00:24:42.14\00:24:44.21 The incense represents prayer. 00:24:44.21\00:24:46.75 The Bible says that in Revelation, 00:24:46.75\00:24:48.52 the incense is the prayers of the saints. 00:24:49.58\00:24:51.19 The bread represented the Word of God. 00:24:51.19\00:24:53.89 "Man doesn't live by bread alone," 00:24:53.89\00:24:55.42 Jesus said, "but by every word." 00:24:55.42\00:24:58.16 Then the light represents witnessing. 00:24:58.16\00:25:03.20 Jesus said, "Let your light so shine 00:25:04.27\00:25:05.60 "that men may see your good works and glorify God." 00:25:05.60\00:25:08.30 We wanna let our light shine. 00:25:08.30\00:25:10.04 And so, every day, we should spend time, I do every morning, 00:25:10.04\00:25:13.71 I read my Bible, I get on my knees, I pray. 00:25:13.71\00:25:16.58 Of course you pray all through the day, but formally, 00:25:16.58\00:25:18.95 talk to the Lord, commit your way to the Lord, 00:25:18.95\00:25:21.22 and then look for opportunities to be His witness. 00:25:21.22\00:25:25.42 Through the ups and downs of live every day, 00:25:25.42\00:25:28.42 you have opportunities to witness for the Lord. 00:25:28.42\00:25:31.26 If you ask Him, the Holy Spirit 00:25:31.26\00:25:32.93 will give you those opportunities. 00:25:32.93\00:25:34.30 You'll be tempted. 00:25:34.30\00:25:35.50 You'll have lots of opportunity to deny yourself. 00:25:35.50\00:25:37.87 The Holy Spirit'll say, "Don't say that," 00:25:37.87\00:25:40.97 (Doug laughs) or "You should say this," 00:25:40.97\00:25:43.00 or "Don't look at that," or "You should look at this." 00:25:43.00\00:25:46.01 All through the day, you've got, "Don't eat that," 00:25:47.31\00:25:49.71 or "Don't eat it yet." 00:31:06.83\00:31:09.80 Wouldn't the people that were gonna arrest Him, 00:31:09.80\00:31:12.87 I mean, everybody knew who Jesus was by then. 00:31:12.87\00:31:15.84 But they had to have a signal from Judas. 00:31:15.84\00:31:18.44 So I'm wondering, do we all see Jesus in a different way? 00:31:18.44\00:31:22.84 Are you seeing a blonde, blue-eyed Jesus, 00:31:22.84\00:31:25.75 and I'm seeing a brown-haired, brown-eyed Jesus, 00:31:25.75\00:31:29.12 and we don't all recognize Him, 00:31:29.12\00:31:31.22 and that's why He can slip away? 00:31:31.22\00:31:33.46 - All right, lemme jump in there. 00:31:33.46\00:31:35.56 (Doug laughs) 00:31:35.56\00:31:36.86 That's an interesting assortment of stories you have there. 00:31:36.86\00:31:39.06 Now, when they were gonna stone Jesus and he passed through 00:31:39.06\00:31:42.20 their midst, there's times in the Bible 00:31:42.20\00:31:44.40 where Elisha blinded an army so they could not see him. 00:31:44.40\00:31:47.87 So I think that God's angels 00:31:47.87\00:31:49.40 blinded the ones who were going to stone Him. 00:31:49.40\00:31:53.24 So that's what happened, I believe, in that case, 00:31:53.24\00:31:55.38 is that God just protected Him. 00:31:55.38\00:31:57.98 When the disciples did not recognize Him on the water, 00:31:57.98\00:32:00.72 when He's walking on the water, that's at night 00:32:00.72\00:32:02.72 during a storm, and maybe in the flash of lightning, 00:32:02.72\00:32:05.99 they see this figure walking towards them. 00:32:05.99\00:32:08.29 They didn't know who it was at first. 00:32:08.29\00:32:10.53 Then He calls out through the rain and the waves and says, 00:32:10.53\00:32:13.73 "It's Me," and Peter says, 00:32:13.73\00:32:14.83 "Lord, if it's you, let me come to You." 00:32:14.83\00:32:16.33 That was just the obscurity of the rain 00:32:16.33\00:32:18.20 and the storm and the darkness, I think. 00:32:18.20\00:32:20.27 When He rose, or when Judas went to arrest Him, 00:32:21.60\00:32:24.91 you're talking about deep into the night. 00:32:24.91\00:32:27.68 They're in this garden. 00:32:27.68\00:32:28.74 They're coming with torches. 00:32:28.74\00:32:30.41 It is true, they had no photographs back then, 00:32:30.41\00:32:32.91 and so, when they said Jesus, wanted dead or alive, 00:32:32.91\00:32:36.52 they didn't have His picture 00:32:36.52\00:32:37.62 on telephone poles, on a poster anywhere. 00:32:37.62\00:32:40.29 He looked like a normal person, 00:32:41.32\00:32:43.43 and that's why they said, "Judas, you do recognize Him. 00:32:43.43\00:32:45.96 "You know what He looks like. 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.46 "You go up and kiss Him on the cheek 00:32:47.46\00:32:49.36 "so we'll know which one to arrest," 00:32:49.36\00:32:51.27 because Christ often traveled with His apostles, 00:32:51.27\00:32:53.60 and sometimes additional disciples. 00:32:53.60\00:32:55.57 It says there was the apostles and the women 00:32:55.57\00:32:57.21 that followed Him, so Judas clearly knew who He was. 00:32:57.21\00:33:01.04 So I think that Jesus did have a real form, 00:33:01.04\00:33:03.41 and everybody knew what He looked like, 00:33:03.41\00:33:05.28 the ones who knew Him, but not having photographs, 00:33:05.28\00:33:08.75 so much of what they knew about Jesus 00:33:08.75\00:33:10.52 was through the stories others were hearing. 00:33:10.52\00:33:12.79 Even Herod heard about Him, and he said, "I wanna see Him." 00:33:14.12\00:33:16.59 So they didn't know what He looked like. 00:33:16.59\00:33:18.83 - Perhaps another reason why they had Judas lead them 00:33:18.83\00:33:20.86 to Jesus is Judas knew where Jesus liked to go. 00:33:20.86\00:33:24.10 Of course, it was night. 00:33:24.10\00:33:25.30 Judas knew that Jesus would go 00:33:25.30\00:33:26.67 to the Garden of Gethsemane up on the Mount of Olives, 00:33:26.67\00:33:29.24 and so he directed them to where Jesus was. 00:33:29.24\00:33:31.74 - Yeah, and he said, "It's the one that I kiss," 00:33:31.74\00:33:33.91 because it's dark. 00:33:33.91\00:33:35.31 - There were other disciples around. 00:33:35.31\00:33:37.01 - Yeah, and they had beards. - That too. 00:33:37.01\00:33:39.58 - They all start looking alike after a while. 00:33:39.58\00:33:40.95 (both laughing) 00:33:40.95\00:33:42.25 - All right, well, thanks for your call, Rita. 00:33:42.25\00:33:43.32 We've never heard that question before. 00:33:43.32\00:33:45.52 Isabel, listening from Arkansas. 00:33:45.52\00:33:47.89 Isabel, welcome to the program! 00:33:47.89\00:33:49.59 - [Isabel] My name is Isabel, and my question is, 00:33:50.89\00:33:55.40 how do you know when Jesus is speaking to you? 00:33:55.40\00:33:58.47 - Good question, Isabel! 00:33:59.40\00:34:00.67 Thank you for calling. 00:34:00.67\00:34:02.24 Well, Jesus does speak to us when we read the Bible, 00:34:02.24\00:34:07.31 and some Bibles have got red letters wherever Jesus speaks. 00:34:08.68\00:34:11.25 They call them red-letter editions. 00:34:11.25\00:34:13.42 When you read the words of Jesus, 00:34:13.42\00:34:14.98 that's the words of Jesus speaking to you. 00:34:14.98\00:34:17.62 Sometimes God speaks to you through His Holy Spirit. 00:34:17.62\00:34:21.49 You might be tempted to say something you shouldn't say 00:34:21.49\00:34:25.83 or get angry or to disobey your parents. 00:34:25.83\00:34:28.40 Well, that's the devil telling you to do the wrong thing, 00:34:28.40\00:34:30.83 and then Jesus and the Holy Spirit will say, 00:34:30.83\00:34:33.10 "No, I want you to do the good thing. 00:34:33.10\00:34:34.77 "I want you to do the right thing." 00:34:34.77\00:34:36.47 That would be the Lord speaking to you through His Spirit. 00:34:36.47\00:34:39.67 Sometimes God even speaks to you through pastors. 00:34:39.67\00:34:42.61 When you go to church and they're preaching a sermon, 00:34:42.61\00:34:45.45 you'll hear the Holy Spirit speak to you 00:34:45.45\00:34:47.22 through the words that they share. 00:34:47.22\00:34:49.25 And so, very rarely, Jesus does talk to a person audibly, 00:34:49.25\00:34:54.32 personally, like He did with Moses and Abraham and Jacob. 00:34:56.93\00:35:01.96 - Samuel. - Samuel, that's right. 00:35:03.30\00:35:05.60 So yeah, when Samuel was just a little boy, 00:35:05.60\00:35:07.80 He said, "Samuel, Samuel," He spoke to him. 00:35:07.80\00:35:10.47 But God's voice will always follow the Bible. 00:35:12.31\00:35:15.21 That's one thing you can be sure of. 00:35:15.21\00:35:16.85 Thank you, Isabel, good question. 00:35:16.85\00:35:18.85 - The next caller that we have 00:35:18.85\00:35:19.91 is Henry listening from New York. 00:35:19.91\00:35:21.38 Henry, you're on the air. 00:35:21.38\00:35:22.68 - Henry, are you there? 00:35:26.02\00:35:26.99 You might have your phone muted. 00:35:26.99\00:35:28.66 - [Henry] Hello? 00:35:29.82\00:35:30.66 - Hi, and your question? 00:35:30.66\00:35:32.69 - [Henry] Yeah, my question is, Moses and Abraham, 00:35:34.00\00:35:34.56 is there anybody living today who is related to them? 00:35:38.73\00:35:43.81 - Is there anyone living today related to Moses or Abraham? 00:35:46.04\00:35:48.64 Good question. 00:35:48.64\00:35:49.61 You know, the genealogy of Moses 00:35:50.41\00:35:53.45 is not as clear as the genealogy of Abraham, 00:35:53.45\00:35:56.52 who of course is an ancestor of Moses. 00:35:56.52\00:35:59.29 Moses had two sons. 00:35:59.29\00:36:01.56 They don't ever seem to rise to prominence. 00:36:01.56\00:36:04.63 They were from the tribe of Levi. 00:36:04.63\00:36:06.86 It was not Moses's sons, but the sons of Aaron, 00:36:06.86\00:36:09.46 his brother, that ended up being the high priest. 00:36:09.46\00:36:12.20 So the sons of Moses, some of 'em worked in the temple 00:36:12.20\00:36:14.67 with the other Levites, but they're not mentioned, 00:36:14.67\00:36:16.64 and it's hard to track the family tree of Moses. 00:36:16.64\00:36:19.47 Abraham, on the other hand, you can see the descendants 00:36:19.47\00:36:22.38 of Abraham around the world, not only in the nation of Jews, 00:36:22.38\00:36:27.45 but you can see in the children of Ishmael. 00:36:28.55\00:36:31.45 Many of them became what you call 00:36:31.45\00:36:34.46 your Semitic peoples and Arabs. 00:36:34.46\00:36:37.43 Of course, not all Muslims are Arabs. 00:36:37.43\00:36:39.13 I think the largest group of Muslims in the world 00:36:39.13\00:36:41.60 are Indonesia, 'cause Islam is a religion. 00:36:41.60\00:36:44.57 But most Arabs can trace their genealogy 00:36:44.57\00:36:47.30 back to Abraham also. 00:36:47.30\00:36:49.60 Thank you, appreciate your question, Henry! 00:36:49.60\00:36:51.81 - We've got Thomas listening in Oklahoma. 00:36:51.81\00:36:53.74 Thomas, you're on the air! 00:36:53.74\00:36:54.94 Welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:36:54.94\00:36:57.31 - [Thomas] Yeah, I got a question for Revelation 14:12, 00:36:57.31\00:37:00.82 and specifically in the last sentence of the verse, 00:37:02.15\00:37:06.42 "and the faith of Jesus." 00:37:07.79\00:37:10.99 So what's it mean, those? 00:37:10.99\00:37:13.16 - All right, lemme read this for our friends. 00:37:14.23\00:37:15.33 It says here, speaking in Revelation 14:12, 00:37:15.33\00:37:18.20 "Here is the patience of the saints; 00:37:19.20\00:37:20.44 "here are those that keep 00:37:20.44\00:37:21.57 "the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." 00:37:21.57\00:37:25.27 Now, it's not saying "faith in Jesus" here. 00:37:25.27\00:37:27.94 It's saying the "faith of Jesus." 00:37:27.94\00:37:30.51 And so, they are modeling in their lives 00:37:30.51\00:37:33.62 the faith that Jesus demonstrated when he was on 00:37:33.62\00:37:37.29 earth. So Jesus said, "I live by the Father." 00:37:37.29\00:37:39.62 Well, we follow His example, and we live by faith in Christ 00:37:39.62\00:37:43.06 as He lived by faith in the Father. 00:37:43.06\00:37:45.49 So they have the same kind of faith as Jesus. 00:37:45.49\00:37:47.96 Is that your understanding? - Yeah, absolutely. 00:37:47.96\00:37:49.26 You know, I heard somebody once put it this way. 00:37:49.26\00:37:50.70 They said, "Faith in Jesus saves you, 00:37:50.70\00:37:53.30 "but the faith of Jesus sustains you. 00:37:53.30\00:37:56.10 "It gives you strength to overcome, 00:37:56.10\00:37:57.84 "to live a victorious life." 00:37:57.84\00:37:59.61 And of course, the context here in Revelation chapter 14, 00:37:59.61\00:38:02.04 it's talking about God's people in the last days. 00:38:02.04\00:38:04.45 They need to have the faith of Jesus. 00:38:04.45\00:38:06.15 - And they're being contrasted with counterfeit Christians. 00:38:06.15\00:38:09.78 So the faith of Jesus not only sustains; it identifies. 00:38:09.78\00:38:14.36 You got the kind of faith Jesus had. 00:38:14.36\00:38:16.36 - Yeah, very good. 00:38:16.36\00:38:17.63 All right, thank you for your call, Thomas. 00:38:17.63\00:38:18.96 We've got Alex listening in Georgia. 00:38:18.96\00:38:20.83 Alex, welcome to the program. 00:38:20.83\00:38:22.30 - [Alex] Hey, how are you? 00:38:23.47\00:38:24.60 Thank you, pastors, for taking my call. 00:38:24.60\00:38:26.17 - Yes, thanks for calling. 00:38:26.17\00:38:27.57 - [Alex] My question is, when Adam and Eve 00:38:28.67\00:38:31.27 were in the garden, which commandments did they break? 00:38:31.27\00:38:34.18 - Yeah, well, the Lord gave a specific commandment 00:38:35.61\00:38:38.38 earlier in Genesis chapter two. 00:38:38.38\00:38:41.25 He told them that they were free to eat 00:38:41.25\00:38:43.72 from any of the trees, any and all of the trees 00:38:43.72\00:38:46.55 in the garden, with one exception. 00:38:46.55\00:38:49.39 There was one tree that would be a test of loyalty. 00:38:49.39\00:38:51.83 He said, "Do not eat from the tree 00:38:51.83\00:38:53.50 "in the middle of the garden of good and evil. 00:38:53.50\00:38:55.33 "I don't want you to experience evil." 00:38:55.33\00:38:57.70 They were to eat from the tree of life 00:38:57.70\00:38:59.10 and every other pleasant thing in the garden. 00:38:59.10\00:39:01.57 And so, when the serpent, 00:39:01.57\00:39:04.57 the devil kinda took possession of the serpent, 00:39:04.57\00:39:07.28 and the devil said through the serpent, 00:39:07.28\00:39:09.98 "Oh, you can't really trust God. 00:39:09.98\00:39:11.38 "He's trying to keep something from you. 00:39:11.38\00:39:13.21 "If you'd eat from this forbidden tree, 00:39:13.21\00:39:15.58 "you'd have special powers. 00:39:15.58\00:39:16.58 "You'd be like gods. 00:39:16.58\00:39:17.69 "Look at me! 00:39:17.69\00:39:19.02 "I was a serpent, and now I can talk." 00:39:19.02\00:39:20.26 I'm paraphrasing. 00:39:20.26\00:39:21.82 And he cast doubt on God, 00:39:21.82\00:39:25.49 and they chose to listen to the devil instead of God. 00:39:25.49\00:39:27.96 They broke the commandment where God said, 00:39:27.96\00:39:30.23 "Do not eat from the forbidden tree." 00:39:30.23\00:39:32.70 They did; God said the penalty was death for disobedience. 00:39:32.70\00:39:36.87 - And even if you wanna get a little more specific, 00:39:36.87\00:39:39.41 looking at the Ten Commandments, 00:39:39.41\00:39:40.78 the 10th commandment says "Thou shall not covet." 00:39:40.78\00:39:43.41 The Bible says, "Eve looked at the tree. 00:39:43.41\00:39:45.48 "She desired the fruit to make one wise. 00:39:45.48\00:39:48.52 "She took of it." 00:39:48.52\00:39:49.48 So the first commandment that she broke 00:39:49.48\00:39:51.75 was the coveting one. 00:39:51.75\00:39:53.12 She wanted something that God had said, "It's not yours." 00:39:53.12\00:39:55.59 She took something that was not hers. 00:39:55.59\00:39:57.16 - That's stealing, too. - Thou shall not steal. 00:39:57.16\00:39:58.93 She gave it to her husband, thou shall not kill. 00:39:58.93\00:40:01.60 (both laughing) 00:40:01.60\00:40:02.66 You could probably, you know, you don't want 00:40:02.66\00:40:04.03 any other gods ahead of you, and she chose to put 00:40:04.03\00:40:06.17 what the serpent was saying ahead of what God was saying. 00:40:06.17\00:40:08.40 So if you look at it like the Bible says, if you break 00:40:08.40\00:40:11.41 one commandment, you're guilty of breaking all of them, 00:40:11.41\00:40:14.51 at least the spirit of all the commandments, 00:40:14.51\00:40:17.31 so yes, the Ten Commandments were broken in the garden. 00:40:17.31\00:40:19.65 - Yep, good question, Alex. 00:40:19.65\00:40:20.95 Hey, thank you so much for your call, 00:40:20.95\00:40:22.18 and we hope you call back. 00:40:22.18\00:40:23.45 - We've got Michael listening in Michigan. 00:40:23.45\00:40:24.89 Michael, welcome to the program. 00:40:24.89\00:40:26.55 - [Michael] Good evening, pastors. 00:40:27.99\00:40:29.72 - Evening. 00:40:29.72\00:40:30.53 - [Michael] I got a question. 00:40:30.53\00:40:31.79 My wife and I are studying Revelations 12:1. 00:40:31.79\00:40:34.73 It's the woman clothed with the sun, 00:40:34.73\00:40:38.17 and the moon is under her feet. 00:40:38.17\00:40:40.20 What is the garland of 12 stars? 00:40:40.20\00:40:43.84 - Great, I like that. 00:40:43.84\00:40:45.24 We've had several Revelation questions tonight, 00:40:45.24\00:40:46.71 and we love it. 00:40:46.71\00:40:47.51 In Revelation 12, you've got a picture. 00:40:48.68\00:40:50.55 First, let's figure out, who is this woman, 00:40:50.55\00:40:52.25 and then it helps everything else become clear. 00:40:52.25\00:40:54.78 The Bible tells us in Bible symbols 00:40:54.78\00:40:56.99 that a woman represents a church. 00:40:56.99\00:41:00.06 Revelation has two women. 00:41:00.06\00:41:01.32 One is clothed with light. 00:41:01.32\00:41:03.26 The sun, moon, and stars are lights that God made. 00:41:03.26\00:41:05.63 The other is clothed with kind of artificial adornment, 00:41:05.63\00:41:08.30 gold and pearls and purple and scarlet and costly array. 00:41:08.30\00:41:12.80 But one is a true, faithful bride of Christ. 00:41:12.80\00:41:17.01 The Bible says, "Husbands, 00:41:17.01\00:41:18.31 "love your wives as Christ loved the church." 00:41:18.31\00:41:21.48 God says, "I've likened the daughter of Zion 00:41:21.48\00:41:24.25 "to a delicate and comely woman." 00:41:24.25\00:41:26.01 Zion was a word for God's Church. 00:41:26.01\00:41:27.52 "I've likened the Church to a woman." 00:41:27.52\00:41:29.48 In Hosea, He says the Church is like His bride. 00:41:29.48\00:41:32.02 So this is a picture of God's pure, true church 00:41:32.02\00:41:35.69 standing on the sun, and Jesus is the sun of righteousness 00:41:35.69\00:41:40.23 that arises with healing in His wings, 00:41:40.23\00:41:42.06 you find in Malachi chapter four. 00:41:42.06\00:41:44.20 Clothed with the moon. 00:41:44.20\00:41:45.47 She's standing on the promises and prophecies 00:41:45.47\00:41:47.37 of the Old Testament as the foundation 00:41:47.37\00:41:49.47 for the New Testament, but she's clothed, 00:41:49.47\00:41:51.77 shining, with the light of Christ's righteousness 00:41:51.77\00:41:54.74 in the New Testament. 00:41:54.74\00:41:56.14 12 stars above the head: above the head 00:41:56.14\00:41:57.91 represents authority, and you've got the 12 tribes 00:41:57.91\00:42:01.98 and 12 judges in the Old Testament, 12 apostles. 00:42:01.98\00:42:05.05 That's talking about the leadership. 00:42:05.05\00:42:07.29 Revelation chapter, is it one, he talked about, the stars 00:42:07.29\00:42:10.29 represent the angels. - Of the seven churches. 00:42:10.29\00:42:13.63 - Yeah, they're the spokesmen, the leaders. 00:42:13.63\00:42:15.90 And so, you've got the 12 above her head 00:42:15.90\00:42:17.90 represents the leadership of the church. 00:42:17.90\00:42:20.90 But more than anything, it's the light of truth. 00:42:20.90\00:42:23.17 The sun, the moon, and the stars, you know, 00:42:23.17\00:42:25.54 the Word is a lamp to my feet and a light. 00:42:25.54\00:42:27.74 It's saying this woman is clothed with light. 00:42:27.74\00:42:30.51 So yeah, it's just a picture of the glory of God's Church. 00:42:30.51\00:42:35.32 - You know, we've got a study guide that's called 00:42:35.32\00:42:36.35 The Bride of Christ. - Oh, perfect. 00:42:36.35\00:42:37.99 - And I think it actually deals with Revelation chapter 12. 00:42:37.99\00:42:40.16 We'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:42:40.16\00:42:42.52 The number again is 800-835-6747. 00:42:42.52\00:42:46.96 That is our free resource line, 00:42:46.96\00:42:49.33 and just ask for the study guide. 00:42:49.33\00:42:50.87 It's called The Bride of Christ, and we'll be happy 00:42:50.87\00:42:52.40 to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:42:52.40\00:42:55.24 Next caller that we have is Kereace 00:42:55.24\00:42:57.44 listening from Washington. 00:42:57.44\00:42:59.14 Kereace, welcome to the program. 00:42:59.14\00:43:01.41 - [Kereace] Hello, good night, thank you for taking my call. 00:43:01.41\00:43:03.75 I just got a with from I John chapter five verse 16. 00:43:03.75\00:43:08.82 Could you please explain that passage for me? 00:43:09.88\00:43:12.25 - Yeah, well, lemme read it for everybody. 00:43:12.25\00:43:14.46 It says, and this is I John five verse 16, 00:43:14.46\00:43:17.19 "If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin 00:43:17.19\00:43:20.40 "that does not lead to death, he will ask, 00:43:20.40\00:43:22.83 "and he will this verse him life for those 00:43:22.83\00:43:24.37 "who commit sin not leading to death." 00:43:24.37\00:43:26.33 Right there, it's telling us of course 00:43:26.33\00:43:27.80 that we can intercede and pray for people. 00:43:27.80\00:43:30.51 But then he goes on and he says, "There is a sin leading 00:43:30.51\00:43:33.58 "to death, and I do not say he should pray about that." 00:43:33.58\00:43:37.28 Now, you would think, well, shouldn't we pray for everybody? 00:43:37.28\00:43:40.18 Well, you know, intercessory prayer in this respect 00:43:40.18\00:43:44.19 is more effective for people that are willing. 00:43:44.19\00:43:47.02 You've got a sin that leads to death 00:43:47.02\00:43:49.02 that prayer won't even help, and that would be 00:43:49.02\00:43:51.23 the sin against the Holy Spirit, an unpardonable sin. 00:43:51.23\00:43:54.93 - I think also when it talks about a sin 00:43:54.93\00:43:56.60 not leading to death, I think it's also talking about 00:43:56.60\00:43:58.73 praying for those who might be sinning ignorantly. 00:43:58.73\00:44:01.64 So Jesus prayed on the cross, "Father, forgive them, 00:44:01.64\00:44:04.67 "for they do not know what they are doing." 00:44:04.67\00:44:06.54 That's referring to the Roman soldiers. 00:44:06.54\00:44:08.04 They're probably just carrying out their orders. 00:44:08.04\00:44:10.25 And so, they are people that have never heard the truth, 00:44:10.25\00:44:12.35 and they might not be doing what is right, 00:44:12.35\00:44:14.18 but maybe they don't know. 00:44:14.18\00:44:15.45 Maybe they are sinning in ignorance. 00:44:15.45\00:44:17.49 But there are those who have hardened their heart, 00:44:17.49\00:44:20.06 as you said, that sin that cannot be forgiven, 00:44:20.06\00:44:22.72 which is the unpardonable sin, 00:44:22.72\00:44:24.43 and they are sinning willfully. 00:44:25.23\00:44:27.13 We wanna pray for everyone, but there is a difference. 00:44:28.50\00:44:31.10 There is sins of ignorance, and then there's deliberate, 00:44:31.10\00:44:34.17 high-handed rebellion against God. 00:44:34.17\00:44:36.14 - That's right. 00:44:37.27\00:44:38.61 So I hope that helps a little bit, Kereace, yes. 00:44:38.61\00:44:41.84 - All right, thanks for your call! 00:44:41.84\00:44:42.98 We've got Anastasia listening in Canada. 00:44:42.98\00:44:46.48 Anastasia, welcome to the program! 00:44:46.48\00:44:48.98 - [Anastasia] Hello! 00:44:48.98\00:44:50.09 - Hi, how can we help you tonight? 00:44:50.09\00:44:51.55 - [Anastasia] Hi Pastor Doug, hi Pastor Ross. 00:44:51.55\00:44:54.22 I actually had two very quick questions, 00:44:54.22\00:44:55.86 if you can answer them both. 00:44:55.86\00:44:57.83 So, my first one is, in the Bible, 00:44:57.83\00:45:01.36 it says that love casts out all fear, right? 00:45:01.36\00:45:04.83 But if you're a person living with OCD, 00:45:04.83\00:45:07.70 and let's just say, for me, I would have to wash my hands 00:45:07.70\00:45:11.41 and everything like that because I'm scared of germs, 00:45:11.41\00:45:14.24 am I not going with God's law by doing that? 00:45:14.24\00:45:17.48 - No, well, lemme answer you 00:45:18.85\00:45:21.95 with something more than just a yes or a no. 00:45:21.95\00:45:24.22 I empathize with you a little bit, 00:45:25.79\00:45:27.96 because I am a little OCD. 00:45:27.96\00:45:30.39 Now, I don't wanna trivialize what you're going through, 00:45:30.39\00:45:32.19 because some people are just obsessively 00:45:32.19\00:45:34.36 washing their hands. 00:45:34.36\00:45:35.90 But if you ask my wife, I'm a little compulsive that way, 00:45:35.90\00:45:40.17 where yeah, I go around through the day washing my hands 00:45:40.17\00:45:42.87 probably 20 times a day. (Doug laughs) 00:45:42.87\00:45:45.21 It's not that I'm afraid of germs. 00:45:45.21\00:45:46.98 I mean, you know me, Pastor Ross. 00:45:46.98\00:45:48.71 I'm not obsessed with germs. 00:45:48.71\00:45:50.58 - Pastor Doug likes clean. - Yeah, I am a clean guy. 00:45:52.31\00:45:53.72 - If you drive in his car, 00:45:53.72\00:45:55.48 it's always clean. (Jean laughs) 00:45:55.48\00:45:57.29 - I am a little that way, yes, so I get a little bit 00:45:57.29\00:46:00.99 agitated if things aren't in the right place. 00:46:00.99\00:46:03.32 But you're asking a bigger question 00:46:05.09\00:46:06.70 about anxiety and fear, am I right, Anastasia? 00:46:06.70\00:46:11.20 - [Anastasia] Yeah. 00:46:11.97\00:46:13.23 - And you're just wondering, does it mean I have 00:46:13.23\00:46:14.60 a lack of faith, that I'm worrying about these things? 00:46:14.60\00:46:17.71 Well, no, because I think that 00:46:17.71\00:46:19.94 you're addressing something that you can't control. 00:46:19.94\00:46:22.64 You're trying not to feel that way, right? 00:46:22.64\00:46:25.51 - [Anastasia] Right, yes, yeah. 00:46:25.51\00:46:26.61 - Yeah, so you know, I expect you're trying 00:46:26.61\00:46:30.85 to maybe get some Christian counsel on the subject 00:46:30.85\00:46:33.82 so that you can get some relief. 00:46:33.82\00:46:36.16 I wrote a book that you might find some comfort in. 00:46:37.49\00:46:41.46 It's called Finding Peace in a World of Worry. 00:46:41.46\00:46:44.50 I partly wrote this because I can sometimes have 00:46:45.77\00:46:47.60 a tendency to worry, and I know a lot of people 00:46:47.60\00:46:49.90 that are just sick with worry. 00:46:49.90\00:46:51.24 And I found a lot of comfort in just writing the book 00:46:51.24\00:46:53.34 and looking at all the scriptures 00:46:53.34\00:46:54.51 and the promises about worry. 00:46:54.51\00:46:56.28 - We live in a world, Pastor Doug, that is just a mess. 00:46:58.01\00:47:00.75 Just look at the news, and yeah, it causes alarm and worry. 00:47:00.75\00:47:04.19 - And with the news in the last two years about germs 00:47:04.19\00:47:06.59 and COVID everywhere, that could make some people 00:47:06.59\00:47:08.76 a little bit apprehensive. - Absolutely. 00:47:08.76\00:47:10.36 - And just wash your hands all the time. 00:47:10.36\00:47:12.46 So I wouldn't call it a sin. 00:47:12.46\00:47:14.30 I'd pray that God would just give you 00:47:14.30\00:47:15.80 some peace and balance. 00:47:15.80\00:47:18.00 You know, I think God wants us to be clean, 00:47:18.00\00:47:19.63 but He doesn't want us to be obsessive 00:47:19.63\00:47:21.10 so that you just can't live your life, 00:47:21.10\00:47:22.74 'cause you're always having to run for sanitizer. 00:47:22.74\00:47:25.47 It's amazing any of us survived childhood, 00:47:27.08\00:47:29.08 eating six pounds of dirt every year. 00:47:29.08\00:47:31.98 (Jean laughs) 00:47:31.98\00:47:33.31 But anyway, so you might enjoy that book. 00:47:33.31\00:47:34.98 You can call and ask for Finding Peace in a World of Worry, 00:47:34.98\00:47:37.72 and I'll bet they'll send you a copy for free. 00:47:37.72\00:47:40.36 - The number to call is 800-835-6747, and again, 00:47:40.36\00:47:43.73 the book's called Finding Peace in a World of Worry. 00:47:43.73\00:47:46.66 We've got Chris listening in North Carolina. 00:47:46.66\00:47:48.63 Chris, welcome to the program! 00:47:48.63\00:47:51.57 - [Chris] Good evening, pastors, how are you? 00:47:51.57\00:47:53.17 - Doing great. - Good. 00:47:53.17\00:47:54.37 - [Chris] Wonderful, I was just a real quick question. 00:47:55.74\00:47:58.21 I know during creation, during the time of Adam and Eve, 00:47:58.21\00:48:01.94 that there was a war that broke out 00:48:03.04\00:48:04.98 in heaven between Lucifer and Michael. 00:48:04.98\00:48:07.35 But how long, or what period of time 00:48:07.35\00:48:10.29 was Satan on earth during that time? 00:48:10.29\00:48:13.79 - Well, we don't believe that Satan came to earth 00:48:15.09\00:48:17.63 until of course after the creation of Adam and Eve, 00:48:17.63\00:48:19.79 which happened after the rebellion. 00:48:19.79\00:48:22.66 We believe, you're not gonna find 00:48:22.66\00:48:25.17 a lot of explicit scriptures on the time table for this, 00:48:25.17\00:48:28.24 but we did a lot of study on the subject 00:48:28.24\00:48:30.81 before we did a special documentary 00:48:30.81\00:48:33.64 called Cosmic Conflict: The Origin of Sin. 00:48:33.64\00:48:36.51 And by the way, that documentary, 00:48:36.51\00:48:38.55 you can just see it on YouTube now, called Cosmic Conflict. 00:48:38.55\00:48:41.55 We understand that one of the reasons God made our world 00:48:42.88\00:48:45.32 and humanity is to help replace the vacuum 00:48:45.32\00:48:48.79 from Satan and his angels being cast out 00:48:48.79\00:48:50.76 following their rebellion and that war. 00:48:50.76\00:48:53.13 You read about the war there in Revelation 12. 00:48:53.13\00:48:56.23 Revelation 12 of course is looking back in time 00:48:56.23\00:48:59.50 to the war between Michael and Satan, the devil. 00:48:59.50\00:49:02.87 So am I answering your question, Chris? 00:49:02.87\00:49:05.37 - [Chris] Yes, kind of, yes. 00:49:06.61\00:49:07.91 I just was wondering how long he was, when he was cast 00:49:07.91\00:49:10.41 down to earth, what period of time he was down here for, 00:49:10.41\00:49:14.75 because we know after Adam and Eve were created, 00:49:14.75\00:49:18.09 that the devil was cast to earth. 00:49:18.09\00:49:20.62 - Yeah, and he's still here. 00:49:20.62\00:49:22.72 Yeah, he's alive and well, as they say. 00:49:22.72\00:49:26.66 - You know, just to add to that a little bit, Pastor Doug, 00:49:26.66\00:49:29.13 in chapter 12 it talks about this war in heaven, 00:49:29.13\00:49:31.47 Michael and his angels are cast out. 00:49:31.47\00:49:33.27 So you have a casting out, 00:49:33.27\00:49:35.20 no, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, 00:49:35.20\00:49:37.11 and the dragon and his angels were cast out. 00:49:37.11\00:49:39.44 So before the creation of the earth, 00:49:39.44\00:49:41.38 there's this war in heaven. 00:49:41.38\00:49:42.51 The devil and his angels rebel, 00:49:42.51\00:49:43.85 and of course they are cast out of heaven. 00:49:43.85\00:49:45.91 But you read a little further in Revelation chapter 12, 00:49:45.91\00:49:48.25 and it says at some point, the devil was cast to the earth. 00:49:48.25\00:49:51.65 - He was cast down then. - Yeah, 00:49:52.89\00:49:54.26 so there's a casting out, and then there's a casting down. 00:49:54.26\00:49:57.36 So the casting out and casting down 00:49:57.36\00:49:59.63 didn't happen at the same time, 00:49:59.63\00:50:00.96 but when Christ died on the cross, Satan's doom was fixed, 00:50:00.96\00:50:04.70 and Jesus became the representative of the earth. 00:50:04.70\00:50:06.87 He is the Second Adam. 00:50:06.87\00:50:08.64 So the Bible says the devil has but a short time. 00:50:08.64\00:50:11.07 He's going around like a roaring lion. 00:50:11.07\00:50:12.54 So he is sort of bound to this earth. 00:50:12.54\00:50:15.08 He doesn't have freedom to roam the universe. 00:50:15.08\00:50:17.35 Then after the 1,000, or doing the 1,000 years, 00:50:17.35\00:50:20.48 it's just him and his angels on the earth. 00:50:20.48\00:50:22.28 They've got nobody to tempt, so. 00:50:22.28\00:50:24.02 - And Jesus said, "I beheld Satan cast down as lightning." 00:50:24.02\00:50:27.52 - Yeah, falling as lightning from heaven. 00:50:27.52\00:50:29.49 - So he helped effect that. 00:50:29.49\00:50:31.23 - Next caller that we have is Dalton listening in Texas. 00:50:31.23\00:50:33.96 Dalton, welcome to the program. 00:50:33.96\00:50:35.63 - [Dalton] Well, hello, and thank you all 00:50:36.93\00:50:38.43 for having such a good program. 00:50:38.43\00:50:40.27 - Well, it's a pleasure, thank you. 00:50:40.27\00:50:42.40 - [Dalton] Yes, my question is, and I hate to ask it, 00:50:42.40\00:50:45.81 it's about the Book of Enoch. 00:50:45.81\00:50:47.74 Why don't we use it, or why don't we reference it? 00:50:51.45\00:50:54.12 - That's a fair question, because in the Book of Jude, 00:50:54.12\00:50:56.85 which is in the Bible, Jude quotes 00:50:56.85\00:51:00.09 from the Book of Enoch, which is not in the Bible. 00:51:00.09\00:51:03.56 And because a Bible writer quotes from a book 00:51:03.56\00:51:08.23 does not mean that everything in the book 00:51:08.23\00:51:10.00 they quoted from is original or inspired. 00:51:10.00\00:51:13.67 For example, Paul quotes from some of the Greek poets. 00:51:13.67\00:51:18.67 They said some things that were true, 00:51:19.71\00:51:20.81 and he quotes from those excerpts. 00:51:20.81\00:51:22.71 Well, there was a book 00:51:22.71\00:51:24.08 called the Book of Enoch that was probably written 00:51:24.08\00:51:25.35 during the Babylonian captivity by some of the Jews, 00:51:25.35\00:51:28.42 and it's what they call an apocryphal book. 00:51:28.42\00:51:30.92 It had some statements in it that were inspired statements, 00:51:30.92\00:51:34.92 but the whole book wasn't necessarily inspired. 00:51:34.92\00:51:37.33 Many times, pastors, I do it, I'm sure you do it, 00:51:38.69\00:51:41.46 I might quote Martin Luther, 00:51:41.46\00:51:43.06 quote Spurgeon or Wesley or other great preachers. 00:51:43.06\00:51:46.50 There's certain things they said that are very profound, 00:51:46.50\00:51:49.20 maybe even inspired, but there's some things Luther said 00:51:49.20\00:51:53.11 I know were not inspired. (Doug laughs) 00:51:53.11\00:51:55.34 I mean, Luther said some pretty harsh things 00:51:55.34\00:51:57.41 about the Jewish people, and I think most Christians 00:51:57.41\00:52:01.62 disavow themselves of those things that he said. 00:52:01.62\00:52:05.05 So, but that wouldn't undermine or take away from 00:52:05.05\00:52:09.16 the inspired things that he did say and how God used him. 00:52:09.16\00:52:13.13 And so, same thing with the Book of Enoch. 00:52:13.13\00:52:15.66 Anyone can download a copy of the Book of Enoch. 00:52:15.66\00:52:17.60 You can read it, and you'll see there's some stuff in there 00:52:17.60\00:52:19.47 that's obviously not scriptural. 00:52:19.47\00:52:22.44 But it was probably written by a Jew or a couple of Jews 00:52:22.44\00:52:25.51 during the Babylonian captivity. 00:52:25.51\00:52:26.88 It did not come with Noah across the flood from Enoch. 00:52:26.88\00:52:30.81 It's never mentioned anywhere in history 00:52:30.81\00:52:33.68 prior to the time after the Babylonian captivity. 00:52:33.68\00:52:36.58 - All right, great, I think our next caller is Hector, 00:52:37.95\00:52:40.19 listening from Florida. 00:52:40.19\00:52:41.92 Hector, welcome to the program! 00:52:41.92\00:52:43.93 - [Hector] Yes, thank you, good evening, everyone. 00:52:43.93\00:52:46.49 - How did you survive the hurricane? 00:52:46.49\00:52:48.33 (Hector laughs) 00:52:49.30\00:52:50.33 Are you in southern Florida? 00:52:50.33\00:52:51.77 - [Hector] No, I'm in a different area, 00:52:51.77\00:52:54.47 so we didn't have too much. 00:52:54.47\00:52:57.47 - Okay, Praise the Lord. 00:52:57.47\00:52:59.01 - [Hector] We just had some gusty winds and that's it. 00:52:59.01\00:53:02.78 I have a question on chapter 22 of Revelation, 00:53:04.08\00:53:09.08 specifically in verse two and 15. 00:53:11.42\00:53:15.06 - Okay, lemme read this. 00:53:16.76\00:53:18.19 It says, Revelation 22 verse two, 00:53:18.19\00:53:21.86 "In the middle of the street and on either side of the river 00:53:21.86\00:53:24.27 "was the tree of life that had 12 different kinds of fruit, 00:53:24.27\00:53:27.70 "each tree yielding its fruit every month, and the leaves 00:53:27.70\00:53:30.57 "of the tree are for the healing of the nations." 00:53:30.57\00:53:32.97 So you wanna do that first? 00:53:32.97\00:53:35.08 - [Hector] Right, let's do that. 00:53:36.01\00:53:38.15 My question specifically is in the last sentence, 00:53:38.15\00:53:42.65 and it says, "The leaves of the tree 00:53:42.65\00:53:45.79 "are well for the healing of the nation." 00:53:46.82\00:53:49.22 And when you know the kingdom of God won't have pain 00:53:49.22\00:53:53.29 and sickness and disease and stuff, okay, that, 00:53:54.36\00:53:56.73 and also, everybody will be one nation, 00:53:57.97\00:54:01.87 but now in this verse, it mentions nations, in plural. 00:54:01.87\00:54:06.24 We'll be multiple nations, you know? 00:54:06.24\00:54:09.08 - All right, well, we're gonna run out of time, 00:54:09.08\00:54:10.88 so lemme answer that real quick. 00:54:10.88\00:54:12.55 You notice, it's not talking about the healing of diseases. 00:54:13.92\00:54:17.02 It's the healing of nations. 00:54:17.02\00:54:19.12 We are divided now in the world by political parties 00:54:19.12\00:54:23.02 and nations and cultures and geography. 00:54:23.02\00:54:25.76 In the kingdom, all those divisions will be healed. 00:54:25.76\00:54:28.53 As we gather under the shimmering leaves 00:54:28.53\00:54:30.50 of the tree of life, we will all be part of one people 00:54:30.50\00:54:33.90 and won't have to worry. 00:54:33.90\00:54:35.20 Hey, I'm sorry I can't give you 00:54:35.20\00:54:36.34 more of an answer than that, Dalton. 00:54:36.34\00:54:38.21 We need to let our listening friends know, 00:54:38.21\00:54:40.68 we sign off from Bible Answers Live sort of in two stages. 00:54:40.68\00:54:44.31 Because of the time schedules with satellite radio, 00:54:44.31\00:54:46.95 first we sign off with our listeners 00:54:46.95\00:54:48.88 that are listening on SiriusXM, 00:54:48.88\00:54:52.25 and then our land-based stations, so we wanna bid 00:54:52.25\00:54:56.56 farewell to the people listening on satellite. 00:54:56.56\00:54:58.09 Those of you who are on the land-based stations, 00:54:58.09\00:55:00.16 you stay tuned, 'cause this is when we take 00:55:00.16\00:55:01.96 our email questions that come in. 00:55:01.96\00:55:04.10 We'll be back and do some rapid-fire email. 00:55:04.10\00:55:08.00 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:55:08.00\00:55:11.51 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:11.51\00:55:14.11 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:14.11\00:55:17.81 Bible Answers Live is produced 00:55:17.81\00:55:19.71 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:19.71\00:55:21.95 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:21.95\00:55:26.15 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:55:26.96\00:55:28.32 - Hello, friends, welcome back to Bible Answers Live, 00:55:28.32\00:55:30.23 for those of you who've been able to stay by, 00:55:30.23\00:55:32.19 those watching on the internet, 00:55:32.19\00:55:33.76 listening on land-based radio stations. 00:55:33.76\00:55:36.63 If you have a Bible question and you wanna email it to us, 00:55:36.63\00:55:39.47 the email address is just balquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:39.47\00:55:43.20 Pastor Doug, we're gonna see how many of these questions 00:55:45.11\00:55:47.11 we can get in the next two minutes. 00:55:47.11\00:55:48.81 So here's the first question: 00:55:48.81\00:55:50.11 when the body dies, where does the spirit go? 00:55:50.11\00:55:53.42 - Well, the Bible tells us that what we call the spirit 00:55:53.42\00:55:56.48 or sometimes refer to as the soul, 00:55:57.59\00:55:59.45 it's the combination of that breath of life, 00:55:59.45\00:56:02.22 which is the word spirit, and the body. 00:56:02.22\00:56:05.69 The word spirit in Greek is the word pneuma. 00:56:05.69\00:56:09.10 It's where you get the word pneumonia. 00:56:09.10\00:56:10.00 It means a wind. 00:56:10.00\00:56:11.37 So the idea that you've got a ghost that flies out of you 00:56:11.37\00:56:13.84 when you die is not what the Bible teaches. 00:56:13.84\00:56:16.00 You cease being a soul until the resurrection, 00:56:16.00\00:56:19.71 when the breath of life is united again 00:56:19.71\00:56:22.71 with the new creation, the new body. 00:56:22.71\00:56:24.68 - Okay, next question that we have, 00:56:24.68\00:56:25.78 how do we know if we are walking in the Spirit? 00:56:25.78\00:56:29.85 Well, Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruits." 00:56:29.85\00:56:32.72 So we can examine ourselves, 00:56:33.72\00:56:36.42 I believe it's in II Corinthians chapter 13. 00:56:36.42\00:56:38.86 There, the apostle Paul said, 00:56:38.86\00:56:40.93 "Let us examine ourselves whether we be in the faith," 00:56:40.93\00:56:44.07 and we use the criteria of Christ, His example, 00:56:44.07\00:56:46.84 His teachings, and say, Lord, am I walking in the Spirit? 00:56:46.84\00:56:50.57 Do I have that peace that He offers? 00:56:50.57\00:56:53.48 Am I living in communion with God? 00:56:53.48\00:56:55.74 And you'll have the fruit of the Spirit. 00:56:55.74\00:56:58.78 - Okay, another question, Revelation chapter 21 four 00:56:58.78\00:57:02.05 says that God'll wipe away every tear from their eyes. 00:57:02.05\00:57:04.89 When does this occur? 00:57:04.89\00:57:06.09 - People sometimes think that as soon as you go to heaven, 00:57:07.46\00:57:09.09 there could possibly be no more tears in heaven, 00:57:09.09\00:57:11.56 but it really doesn't say that God wipes away all the tears 00:57:11.56\00:57:15.06 until after the millennium, 00:57:15.06\00:57:17.27 because at the end of the millennium, 00:57:17.27\00:57:18.63 there is a great white throne judgment. 00:57:18.63\00:57:20.90 Many are found lost in that judgment, 00:57:20.90\00:57:24.91 and people might have friends or family that are not there. 00:57:24.91\00:57:29.01 God is sad. 00:57:30.65\00:57:32.98 If angels rejoice when someone's saved, 00:57:32.98\00:57:35.32 then presumably, there's sadness when someone's lost. 00:57:35.32\00:57:37.85 If they have those emotions, then we have those emotions. 00:57:37.85\00:57:41.69 But after God makes the earth new following the 1,000 years, 00:57:41.69\00:57:45.46 that's when it says he wipes away 00:57:45.46\00:57:46.83 all the tears from our eyes. 00:57:46.83\00:57:48.13 - All right, Pastor Doug, a quick question here. 00:57:48.13\00:57:49.96 What type of locust did John the Baptist eat? 00:57:49.96\00:57:52.87 - Yeah, was it locust bean? 00:57:52.87\00:57:54.47 The same word is used for the locust pod, 00:57:54.47\00:57:56.30 something like a carob pod, or was it the grasshoppers? 00:57:56.30\00:58:00.21 We don't know. 00:58:00.21\00:58:01.54 We're hoping it was the locust bean, because we hate 00:58:01.54\00:58:03.61 to picture the prophet with grasshopper legs in his teeth. 00:58:03.61\00:58:06.65 Hey, listening friends, we hope that you will tune in 00:58:06.65\00:58:08.98 and join us again next week. 00:58:08.98\00:58:10.35 Send us your Bible questions, keep the ministry in prayer, 00:58:10.35\00:58:13.22 and support us to keep doing what we're doing. 00:58:13.22\00:58:15.89 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:58:15.89\00:58:17.63 - [Announcer] Bible Answers Live, 00:58:17.63\00:58:19.43 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.43\00:58:23.67 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:58:23.67\00:58:27.67
