Hello friends, would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:50.18\00:00:54.12 Only one in 10,000 diamonds found are colored 00:00:54.12\00:00:57.89 and only one in every 100 diamonds is greater 00:00:57.89\00:01:00.72 than 10 carets in size. 00:01:00.72\00:01:03.26 Furthermore, only one out of 200 diamonds is flawless. 00:01:03.26\00:01:08.00 So you can imagine the worldwide astonishment when miners 00:01:08.00\00:01:10.87 in Angola, Africa discovered a 170-caret 00:01:10.87\00:01:14.77 flawless pink diamond in July, 2022. 00:01:14.77\00:01:18.81 Named the Lulo Rose after the mine 00:01:18.81\00:01:21.01 where it was discovered, the 34-gram rock is believed 00:01:21.01\00:01:24.31 to be the largest pink diamond discovered 00:01:24.31\00:01:26.58 in the last 300 years. 00:01:26.58\00:01:29.25 The former record holder is 182-carat Daria-i-Noor found 00:01:29.25\00:01:34.09 in India the 17th century, and it now resides 00:01:34.09\00:01:37.03 in the National Bank of Tehran. 00:01:37.03\00:01:39.39 It's hard to say what this diamond will sell for 00:01:39.39\00:01:41.56 after it's cut, but just for comparison, 00:01:41.56\00:01:44.57 the Pink Star diamond shattered every price record 00:01:44.57\00:01:48.14 when Sotheby's sold it in April, 2017 00:01:48.14\00:01:51.07 for a staggering 71.2 million at a Hong Kong auction. 00:01:51.07\00:01:55.94 It was the single most expensive diamond 00:01:55.94\00:01:58.21 or jewel sold at an auction. 00:01:58.21\00:02:00.28 And catch this, it took professionals more than a year 00:02:00.28\00:02:03.08 and a half just to cut and polish this Pink Star. 00:02:03.08\00:02:06.62 Now the Pink Star was 59.60 carets. 00:02:06.62\00:02:10.23 It's anyone's guess what the 170-caret Lulo Rose 00:02:10.23\00:02:14.30 will sell for. 00:02:14.30\00:02:15.70 You know, Pastor Ross, it's amazing 00:02:15.70\00:02:17.83 how much a rock will sell for. 00:02:17.83\00:02:20.30 - I know, but to get something that rare, that strong, 00:02:20.30\00:02:23.67 so beautiful, and apparently flawless, 00:02:23.67\00:02:25.64 I mean, that's an incredible find. 00:02:25.64\00:02:27.58 One wonders how many diamonds of that quality is still 00:02:27.58\00:02:30.51 out there, buried under the ground that nobody knows about. 00:02:30.51\00:02:33.52 But you know, talking about valuable rocks, 00:02:33.52\00:02:35.65 probably the most valuable rock is not diamond 00:02:35.65\00:02:39.49 or some type of emerald. 00:02:39.49\00:02:42.22 It's written on stone and it's put in a golden box, 00:02:42.22\00:02:46.33 and it's hidden away for many, many, many years. 00:02:46.33\00:02:50.13 Of course, what we're talking about is the 10 Commandments, 00:02:50.13\00:02:52.43 the most precious rocks, not because of the rock per se, 00:02:52.43\00:02:55.27 but because of what's written on the rock. 00:02:55.27\00:02:56.87 - That's right. 00:02:56.87\00:02:57.84 You know, I kind of like rocks. 00:02:57.84\00:03:00.14 I lived in a cave and we were surrounded by rocks, 00:03:00.14\00:03:02.21 and you actually get to know some of them 00:03:02.21\00:03:03.85 and their shapes and their design and colors. 00:03:03.85\00:03:06.35 And Christ is often compared to a rock in the Bible. 00:03:06.35\00:03:09.95 He said His word, He said, 00:03:09.95\00:03:11.29 "He that hears these words of mine and does them is like 00:03:11.29\00:03:13.49 "a wise man building on the rock." 00:03:13.49\00:03:15.82 And you can read in Ephesians 2:19-22, 00:03:15.82\00:03:18.76 "Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners, 00:03:18.76\00:03:21.73 but fellow citizens with the saints 00:03:21.73\00:03:23.70 and of the household of God and are built 00:03:23.70\00:03:26.10 on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, 00:03:26.10\00:03:28.94 Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone; 00:03:28.94\00:03:33.38 in Whom all the building fitly framed together grows 00:03:33.38\00:03:36.24 into a holy temple in the Lord in whom you are builded 00:03:36.24\00:03:39.55 together for a habitation of God through the spirit." 00:03:39.55\00:03:42.62 And Peter says, "We are lively stones built 00:03:42.62\00:03:44.75 "on that cornerstone of Jesus Who is the rock of ages." 00:03:44.75\00:03:49.32 And that's, you know, rocks in the Bible 00:03:49.32\00:03:51.09 represent something enduring and perfect. 00:03:51.09\00:03:54.13 If you're gonna want something to last 00:03:54.13\00:03:57.20 like the pyramids or even a tombstone, 00:03:57.20\00:04:00.07 you make it out of stone it so it'll last. 00:04:00.07\00:04:03.10 And that's why God wrote His law on rock 00:04:03.10\00:04:06.17 because of its enduring nature. 00:04:06.17\00:04:08.44 - He wrote it with His own hand 00:04:08.44\00:04:09.78 because His law doesn't change. 00:04:09.78\00:04:11.95 I mean, people's opinions come and go, 00:04:11.95\00:04:13.55 but the word of God endures forever. 00:04:13.55\00:04:15.68 You might want to know more 00:04:15.68\00:04:16.75 about this very special law written on stone 00:04:16.75\00:04:19.92 there in that golden box. 00:04:19.92\00:04:21.29 You don't have to go find the golden box 00:04:21.29\00:04:23.02 to read what's written on the stone. 00:04:23.02\00:04:24.39 It's in the Bible; it's the 10 Commandments. 00:04:24.39\00:04:26.70 We have a book, it's actually one 00:04:26.70\00:04:27.96 of our study guides called "Written in Stone" 00:04:27.96\00:04:30.43 and it's all about the 10 Commandments 00:04:30.43\00:04:31.93 and the principles that we find in scripture, in that law. 00:04:31.93\00:04:35.90 If you'd like to receive this free gift, all you need 00:04:35.90\00:04:37.87 to do is call the number 800-835-6747 and you want 00:04:37.87\00:04:42.11 to ask for offer number 111 00:04:42.11\00:04:44.61 or ask by name "Written in Stone" and we'll be happy 00:04:44.61\00:04:48.25 to send that to anyone here in North America. 00:04:48.25\00:04:50.79 If you're outside of North America, 00:04:50.79\00:04:52.59 just go to the Amazing Facts website, 00:04:52.59\00:04:54.39 just AmazingFacts.org or .com and you'll be able 00:04:54.39\00:04:58.86 to read that study guide right there online. 00:04:58.86\00:05:01.73 We're also gonna give you a few other numbers 00:05:01.73\00:05:03.47 as we work our way through the program. 00:05:03.47\00:05:04.80 But if you have a Bible-related question, the number to call 00:05:04.80\00:05:07.60 here to the studio is 800-463-7297, 800-463-7297. 00:05:07.60\00:05:12.67 And also if you would like to email us a Bible question, 00:05:15.94\00:05:19.48 you can do so at BALQuestions@AmazingFacts.org, 00:05:19.48\00:05:22.52 BALQuestions@AmazingFacts.org. 00:05:25.12\00:05:28.39 Now Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone lines 00:05:28.39\00:05:29.99 as we always do, we like to start with prayer. 00:05:29.99\00:05:32.36 Dear Father, we thank You for this time 00:05:32.36\00:05:33.76 that we have to be able to open Your word and study. 00:05:33.76\00:05:36.83 We always ask for the Spirit to come and guide us here 00:05:36.83\00:05:38.93 in the studio, and be with those who are listening 00:05:38.93\00:05:40.74 wherever they might be. 00:05:40.74\00:05:42.20 And Lord, lead us into a clearer understanding 00:05:42.20\00:05:44.71 of what the Bible teaches, 00:05:44.71\00:05:46.14 for we ask this in Jesus' name, amen. 00:05:46.14\00:05:48.98 - Amen. 00:05:48.98\00:05:49.98 - Well, I think we are ready 00:05:49.98\00:05:51.01 for our first caller this evening. 00:05:51.01\00:05:52.05 We've got Adrian listening from Texas. 00:05:52.05\00:05:54.25 Adrian, welcome to the program. 00:05:54.25\00:05:56.12 - [Adrian] Hi, how's it going? 00:05:56.12\00:05:57.52 - Good, appreciate your calling. 00:05:57.52\00:05:59.59 - [Adrian] Okay, so basically the question is 00:05:59.59\00:06:02.56 how do we reconcile 1 Corinthians 1 00:06:02.56\00:06:07.60 when Paul is talking about that anything, meats and stuff 00:06:08.93\00:06:12.77 that are sacrificed to idols basically means nothing? 00:06:14.10\00:06:17.31 And then Jesus in Revelation 2, verse 14, 00:06:17.31\00:06:21.31 He's saying that He's actually admonishing the church 00:06:22.58\00:06:26.98 for eating meat sacrificed idols. 00:06:26.98\00:06:29.55 So I was just wondering how we can 00:06:29.55\00:06:31.39 reconcile those two things. 00:06:31.39\00:06:33.46 - Yeah, well I think they're talking 00:06:33.46\00:06:34.56 about two different things. 00:06:34.56\00:06:35.99 First of all, Revelation is full of symbolism. 00:06:37.09\00:06:39.53 And in Revelation 2, when he's talking about Balaam, 00:06:39.53\00:06:43.67 well, he's clearly not talking about literal Balaam 00:06:43.67\00:06:46.37 who had been dead for oh, 1400 years at that point, 00:06:46.37\00:06:50.47 and later, he talks about Jezebel. 00:06:50.47\00:06:51.81 He talks about these Old Testament characters 00:06:51.81\00:06:53.58 'cause of what they represent. 00:06:53.58\00:06:55.08 And the idea of eating something sacrificed to idols? 00:06:55.08\00:06:58.88 It was probably also talking about eating those things 00:06:58.88\00:07:01.92 that are unclean, which Daniel would not do, 00:07:01.92\00:07:05.65 that were sacrificed to idols. 00:07:05.65\00:07:07.72 Daniel would not be defiled 00:07:07.72\00:07:09.36 'cause he wanted to be faithful. 00:07:09.36\00:07:11.16 Paul was dealing with a different issue. 00:07:11.16\00:07:13.56 There were Jewish believers that did not think 00:07:13.56\00:07:18.43 that Gentiles should eat any meat, 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.57 clean or unclean, sold in the Greco Roman marketplaces 00:07:20.57\00:07:25.64 'cause whenever they butchered anything, 00:07:26.78\00:07:27.88 it was butchered in front of an idol. 00:07:27.88\00:07:30.21 And so Paul is saying, look, the idol is nothing. 00:07:30.21\00:07:33.75 It's nothing wrong with eating clean meat. 00:07:33.75\00:07:36.35 And so, I wouldn't worry about that. 00:07:36.35\00:07:39.65 If your conscience bothers you, he says in Romans 14, 00:07:39.65\00:07:41.96 if you're not gonna eat it, don't eat it. 00:07:41.96\00:07:43.96 So they're dealing with a different issue there 00:07:43.96\00:07:46.49 than what you see in Revelation. 00:07:46.49\00:07:47.86 And eating things sacrificed to idols in Revelation is 00:07:47.86\00:07:51.87 really talking about ingesting false teachings 00:07:51.87\00:07:55.44 that are contaminated by paganism. 00:07:55.44\00:07:58.24 So there's a whole spiritual overtone in Revelation 00:07:58.24\00:08:00.94 that you don't have there in 1 Corinthians. 00:08:00.94\00:08:03.98 - All right, thank you. 00:08:03.98\00:08:04.98 Good question, Adrian. 00:08:04.98\00:08:06.38 We've got James listening in Illinois. 00:08:06.38\00:08:08.28 James, welcome to the program. 00:08:08.28\00:08:09.85 - [James] Thank you, hi pastors. 00:08:10.65\00:08:12.62 May God continue to bless you both for all that you do. 00:08:12.62\00:08:16.22 - Thank you. 00:08:16.22\00:08:17.59 - [James] My question is, do we know the original language? 00:08:17.59\00:08:20.50 Was it Hebrew or Aramaic before the Tower of Babel? 00:08:20.50\00:08:23.93 - No, you know, I think everyone can speculate, 00:08:25.40\00:08:27.94 but I don't think so. 00:08:27.94\00:08:29.97 My guess is that when we get to heaven, 00:08:29.97\00:08:33.51 if we're, you know, we are still speaking the language 00:08:33.51\00:08:36.44 of Canaan or Eden, that we will find out 00:08:36.44\00:08:39.35 that there are certain words in many languages 00:08:39.35\00:08:41.48 that can be traced back to the original language. 00:08:41.48\00:08:44.59 People that study languages today already see, 00:08:45.82\00:08:48.69 around the world, as people have migrated, 00:08:48.69\00:08:50.79 they've taken certain words with them. 00:08:50.79\00:08:53.33 I remember living among the Navajo Indians 00:08:53.33\00:08:55.86 for about a year and a half in New Mexico, 00:08:55.86\00:08:58.20 and there was a tribe of Eskimos in Alaska 00:08:58.20\00:09:03.17 that spoke an almost identical language, 00:09:04.41\00:09:06.51 they could understand each other. 00:09:06.51\00:09:07.58 But all the tribes in between 00:09:07.58\00:09:09.51 could not understand each other. 00:09:09.51\00:09:11.48 So, you know, it's obviously there is some migration 00:09:11.48\00:09:14.32 and languages change. 00:09:14.32\00:09:15.62 I mean, you look at American English compared 00:09:15.62\00:09:17.49 to England English, compared to South African English, 00:09:17.49\00:09:20.92 which Pastor Ross speaks, compared 00:09:20.92\00:09:22.66 to Australian English, and you can see 00:09:22.66\00:09:24.99 that how quickly languages adopt new words and accents. 00:09:24.99\00:09:28.53 - Although if you had to guess, Pastor Doug, 00:09:29.66\00:09:30.97 I don't know, what do you think? 00:09:30.97\00:09:32.07 Do you think maybe the descendants of Seth 00:09:32.07\00:09:34.47 that stayed probably close to Noah after they left the arc, 00:09:34.47\00:09:38.57 spoke a language closer to the language that was spoken 00:09:39.94\00:09:42.51 before the flood versus those who joined 00:09:42.51\00:09:44.61 in the Tower of Babel, had their languages confused, 00:09:44.61\00:09:47.62 and then dispersed around the globe? 00:09:47.62\00:09:49.72 - Say something in Africans. 00:09:49.72\00:09:51.22 - In Africans? (Pastor Ross chuckling) 00:09:51.22\00:09:53.76 (Pastor Ross speaking a foreign language) 00:09:53.76\00:09:58.56 Okay, anyway. 00:09:58.56\00:09:59.39 - That was worth it. 00:09:59.39\00:10:00.20 No, I think people wanna know. 00:10:00.20\00:10:01.23 - For what it's worth, I think some people understood that. 00:10:02.60\00:10:05.90 - So yeah, just, it's amazing 00:10:05.90\00:10:07.20 how languages change over time. 00:10:07.20\00:10:10.51 But yeah, so we don't know. 00:10:10.51\00:10:12.21 I think Pastor Ross is right, we might find that some 00:10:12.21\00:10:14.21 of the Semitic languages that you're gonna find the language 00:10:14.21\00:10:18.45 of Eden had a lot of similarity. 00:10:18.45\00:10:21.08 Thanks for that, appreciate it. 00:10:21.08\00:10:22.22 - Thank you, James. 00:10:22.22\00:10:23.52 We've got next caller is Darrell listening in Florida. 00:10:23.52\00:10:25.12 Darrell, welcome to the program. 00:10:25.12\00:10:26.79 - [Darrell] Hi pastors. 00:10:28.12\00:10:29.66 My question is regarding Revelation 13, verse 17. 00:10:29.66\00:10:34.73 I was just wanting to know, why does it say 00:10:36.23\00:10:38.70 that no one can buy or sell unless they have 00:10:38.70\00:10:41.44 either the mark of the beast, which I know that is like, 00:10:41.44\00:10:45.41 if you're following the Sunday law that's passed, 00:10:45.41\00:10:50.38 obeying the Sunday law, or the name of the beast, 00:10:52.28\00:10:55.12 which is Vicarius Filii Dei or Vicar of the Son of God, 00:10:55.12\00:10:59.75 or the number of his name, which we all know is 666. 00:10:59.75\00:11:04.33 So why is it this or this, or this? 00:11:04.33\00:11:06.86 It's like cash or check, or credit card. 00:11:06.86\00:11:11.27 Like, why is it like that? 00:11:11.27\00:11:14.47 - Well, my guess is that here in Revelation 13, 00:11:14.47\00:11:19.11 he's really saying anyone who worships the beast, 00:11:19.11\00:11:22.11 and there's several ways that that might be tested, 00:11:22.11\00:11:25.11 but it's all gonna boil down to the same thing. 00:11:25.11\00:11:27.95 When you get to chapter 14, 00:11:27.95\00:11:30.05 and I think it's mentioned again in chapter 18, 00:11:30.05\00:11:33.82 it just summarizes it by saying 00:11:33.82\00:11:35.79 those who worship the beast and his image. 00:11:35.79\00:11:37.99 And so there will be different criteria 00:11:37.99\00:11:39.86 where you'll prove it. 00:11:39.86\00:11:41.06 I know that like, during World War 2, 00:11:42.26\00:11:44.67 there were laws made to basically eradicate 00:11:44.67\00:11:47.00 the Jewish people and there were one 00:11:47.00\00:11:49.00 of several ways they would identify them. 00:11:49.00\00:11:51.54 It didn't have to be any one way, 00:11:51.54\00:11:53.04 but they had a few different tests. 00:11:53.04\00:11:54.51 And so I think it's saying here in Revelation, 00:11:54.51\00:11:56.61 there's a few different ways that your worship 00:11:56.61\00:11:58.68 of the beast will be measured. 00:11:58.68\00:12:00.75 The buying and selling will be for everybody 00:12:00.75\00:12:03.52 if they don't cooperate. 00:12:03.52\00:12:04.62 There'll be economic sanctions on everybody 00:12:04.62\00:12:06.65 who does not cooperate and worship the beast. 00:12:06.65\00:12:09.66 - And at the end of time there's just two groups, 00:12:09.66\00:12:11.39 those that have the mark of the beast 00:12:11.39\00:12:12.69 and those who have the seal of God. 00:12:12.69\00:12:14.00 And I think the reason it's mentioned here, 00:12:14.00\00:12:15.53 the mark, the name, the number, 00:12:15.53\00:12:17.57 it's just reaffirming what this power is. 00:12:17.57\00:12:20.60 There'll be many that'll go along with these laws 00:12:20.60\00:12:23.47 that have to do with worship or restricting worship 00:12:23.47\00:12:26.04 because they wanna be able to buy and sell. 00:12:26.04\00:12:27.91 They don't necessarily believe 00:12:27.91\00:12:29.38 that this is what the world needs. 00:12:29.38\00:12:31.11 They'll be those who really believe that this is 00:12:31.11\00:12:33.48 what the world needs and be very supportive of it. 00:12:33.48\00:12:35.98 But I think the vast majority will just go along 00:12:35.98\00:12:38.22 so that they can buy and sell. 00:12:38.22\00:12:39.52 And so there's different motivations 00:12:39.52\00:12:41.56 why people will do this, but it's emphasizing 00:12:41.56\00:12:44.16 this power that's described. 00:12:44.16\00:12:45.93 You know, we do have a study guide called 00:12:45.93\00:12:47.66 "The Mark of the Beast" and it talks about the subject. 00:12:47.66\00:12:50.00 And we'll be happy to send that 00:12:50.00\00:12:51.00 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:12:51.00\00:12:53.07 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:12:53.07\00:12:55.37 And you can ask for the study guide, 00:12:57.17\00:12:58.44 it's called "The Mark of the Beast" 00:12:58.44\00:13:00.18 and we'll be happy to get that in the mail 00:13:00.18\00:13:01.21 to anyone here in North America. 00:13:01.21\00:13:03.65 - All right, thank you. 00:13:03.65\00:13:04.45 - Next caller that we have is 00:13:04.45\00:13:05.55 Joel listening in North Carolina. 00:13:05.55\00:13:06.78 Joel, welcome to the program. 00:13:06.78\00:13:08.68 - [Joel] Good evening everybody. 00:13:08.68\00:13:10.35 Pastor Doug, I think I heard this in your sermons 00:13:10.35\00:13:13.12 and if I didn't, if you didn't say this, 00:13:13.12\00:13:15.66 please tell me so I can be corrected. 00:13:15.66\00:13:18.83 But I'm trying to figure out why we as, 00:13:18.83\00:13:21.33 Christianity, as a whole, 00:13:22.93\00:13:25.17 separate tries to separate Christianity 00:13:25.17\00:13:28.47 from the Jewish heritage. 00:13:28.47\00:13:32.01 Because I think it was you that said, you know, 00:13:32.01\00:13:34.58 we read a Jewish book, we worship a Jewish Savior, 00:13:34.58\00:13:38.48 and when we become a Christian, we become spiritual Jews. 00:13:38.48\00:13:43.08 - Yeah, I said that word for word. 00:13:43.08\00:13:45.29 So that's, yeah. 00:13:45.29\00:13:46.79 - [Joel] I don't understand why Christians try 00:13:46.79\00:13:49.12 to separate, you know, like they don't wanna... 00:13:49.12\00:13:53.16 - Yeah, well let me give you a few thoughts on that. 00:13:54.76\00:13:57.03 First of all, if a person accepts Christ, 00:13:57.03\00:14:00.94 there is a difference between a Christian, 00:14:00.94\00:14:03.87 of course a Christian accepts Jesus as the Messiah. 00:14:03.87\00:14:07.14 There are a lot of Jews, 00:14:07.14\00:14:08.51 so a Christian can't just say, "Well, I'm now a Jew." 00:14:08.51\00:14:11.08 I tell my Jewish family, I said, 00:14:11.08\00:14:12.51 "Now I'm a completed Jew," because, you know, 00:14:12.51\00:14:15.05 the Jews were supposed to both embrace 00:14:15.05\00:14:16.95 and proclaim the Messiah. 00:14:16.95\00:14:18.69 And so I think that we should embrace the Jewish heritage 00:14:20.99\00:14:23.43 of the Christian Church. 00:14:23.43\00:14:25.06 Way back in, oh, about 70, 80 AD, 00:14:25.93\00:14:30.57 after the Jews had rebelled against the Romans 00:14:30.57\00:14:33.30 and Judaism, you know, was basically frowned on 00:14:33.30\00:14:38.37 and they were very upset with the Jewish nation 00:14:39.47\00:14:42.58 for its rebellion against Rome. 00:14:42.58\00:14:44.88 There's a lot of anti-Jewish sentiment in the Roman Empire. 00:14:44.88\00:14:49.15 And so the Christians began to distance themselves 00:14:49.15\00:14:51.79 a little bit from the Jews because the persecution 00:14:51.79\00:14:53.82 of the Jews began to overlap, 00:14:53.82\00:14:55.52 and they were persecuting Christians. 00:14:55.52\00:14:57.03 They said, well, these are Jews. 00:14:57.03\00:14:58.66 They worship the sabbath 00:14:58.66\00:15:00.56 and they keep the same laws as the Jews. 00:15:00.56\00:15:03.63 And they began to distance themselves. 00:15:03.63\00:15:05.33 And so, you know, that trend has continued through history. 00:15:05.33\00:15:08.60 It's just mind-boggling that during World War 2 00:15:08.60\00:15:12.37 that you had some Nazis still considered themselves 00:15:12.37\00:15:16.68 Christians while they were exterminating Jews. 00:15:16.68\00:15:20.02 And if you've ever read the book "The Hiding Place", 00:15:20.02\00:15:23.35 this one man who is Mr. Tin Boom who is hiding Jews 00:15:23.35\00:15:27.29 in his house, he had a Jewish baby and they said, 00:15:27.29\00:15:29.86 "If you have that Jewish baby 00:15:29.86\00:15:30.96 "and you're caught, they'll kill you." 00:15:30.96\00:15:33.53 He said, "It was a Jewish baby that died for me." 00:15:33.53\00:15:36.60 And so he said, "I'm willing to," and did end up dying. 00:15:36.60\00:15:39.43 But you know, they had the right attitude. 00:15:39.43\00:15:42.50 Anyway, we have a book on that 00:15:42.50\00:15:43.91 that's called "Spiritual Israel". 00:15:43.91\00:15:46.34 And if you'd like to read that, Joel or anybody, 00:15:46.34\00:15:48.78 I think that's gonna help you better understand 00:15:48.78\00:15:50.51 that Christianity really is rooted in Judaism 00:15:50.51\00:15:53.18 and there shouldn't be antisemitism in Christian's 00:15:53.18\00:15:57.49 minds. - To receive the book, just call the number 00:15:57.49\00:16:01.72 800-835-6747. It's called "Spiritual Israel" and we'll be 00:16:01.72\00:16:03.89 happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:16:03.89\00:16:06.43 If you're outside of North America, just go 00:16:06.43\00:16:08.36 to the Amazing Facts website, AmazingFacts.com or .org. 00:16:08.36\00:16:13.30 We've got June listening in California. 00:16:13.30\00:16:16.10 June, welcome to the program. 00:16:16.10\00:16:17.67 - [June] Hello, hello, pastors. 00:16:17.67\00:16:19.04 How are you? 00:16:19.04\00:16:20.28 - Good, thank you for calling. 00:16:20.28\00:16:22.11 - [June] Yeah, just a quick question on Exodus 4:24. 00:16:22.11\00:16:27.18 I'm just wondering why God would want to kill Moses. 00:16:28.58\00:16:30.62 - Yeah, this is, this verse usually gets 00:16:30.62\00:16:33.05 some interesting questions. 00:16:33.05\00:16:35.22 People are reading through the Bible 00:16:35.22\00:16:36.56 and they go through Exodus, they get to chapter four 00:16:36.56\00:16:39.03 and it makes this interesting statement 00:16:39.03\00:16:42.40 where Moses is on his way to Egypt and in route, 00:16:42.40\00:16:45.73 it says the Lord tried to slay him. 00:16:45.73\00:16:47.87 Now, just the very idea that God would try to slay somebody, 00:16:47.87\00:16:51.94 it's can leave you wondering, did God swing and miss? 00:16:51.94\00:16:55.98 You know, if God wants to slay you, He's gonna slay you. 00:16:55.98\00:16:59.01 And basically it's saying that, 00:16:59.01\00:17:00.95 that the wrath of God was rising up against Moses 00:17:00.95\00:17:03.85 'cause Moses had been called to lead the people, 00:17:03.85\00:17:06.55 he'd accepted the call. 00:17:06.55\00:17:08.29 He had been convicted by the Holy Spirit, 00:17:08.29\00:17:10.13 that as the leader he needed 00:17:10.13\00:17:11.56 to embrace the covenant to Abraham. 00:17:11.56\00:17:14.63 He had not had his own son or at least one 00:17:14.63\00:17:17.30 of his sons circumcised. 00:17:17.30\00:17:19.50 And I think maybe he had argued about this 00:17:19.50\00:17:21.57 with his wife 'cause finally his wife says okay. 00:17:21.57\00:17:24.61 She circumcised the boy and she said, 00:17:24.61\00:17:26.84 "You're a bloody man." 00:17:26.84\00:17:27.94 Maybe she thought it was barbaric 00:17:27.94\00:17:29.04 or who knows what the discussion was. 00:17:29.04\00:17:30.35 But Moses had not followed through in doing what God said. 00:17:30.35\00:17:34.48 And God was saying if you continue going down the road, 00:17:34.48\00:17:37.95 you're in high-handed disobedience. 00:17:37.95\00:17:39.85 You're gonna be leading my covenant people 00:17:39.85\00:17:41.89 and you're not following the covenant in your own family. 00:17:41.89\00:17:45.23 So reading between the lines, most commentators think 00:17:45.23\00:17:48.40 this is what was happening here. 00:17:48.40\00:17:50.43 - And I think that the verse there, 00:17:50.43\00:17:52.47 at least the idea, as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, 00:17:52.47\00:17:55.17 if God wanted to destroy Moses, yeah, He would've done it. 00:17:55.17\00:17:58.17 But the Lord appeared in a threatening manner to Moses. 00:17:58.17\00:18:02.21 - Kinda like the angel with Balaam and his donkey. 00:18:02.21\00:18:04.08 - That's right, with the raised sword or maybe... 00:18:04.08\00:18:05.45 - He could have killed him if He wanted to. 00:18:05.45\00:18:06.48 - Right. 00:18:06.48\00:18:07.58 Just to illustrate the importance of what it is 00:18:07.58\00:18:10.19 that Moses had to do in being faithful to the covenant. 00:18:10.19\00:18:13.39 Good question. 00:18:13.39\00:18:14.49 Next caller that we have is Claudette 00:18:14.49\00:18:15.79 listening from New Jersey. 00:18:15.79\00:18:16.89 Claudette, welcome to the program. 00:18:16.89\00:18:18.69 - [Claudette] Good evening, Pastor Doug. 00:18:18.69\00:18:19.53 Thanks for taking me. 00:18:19.53\00:18:21.10 And Pastor Ross. 00:18:21.90\00:18:24.00 Yes, my question is based on 1 Corinthians 11, 00:18:24.00\00:18:28.67 verse five and six, and also verse 15. 00:18:28.67\00:18:32.31 It says, "Whatever woman that prays or prophesies 00:18:32.31\00:18:35.34 with her head uncovered dishonoreth her head 00:18:35.34\00:18:37.78 for that is even all one as she was shaven, 00:18:37.78\00:18:41.95 for if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn." 00:18:41.95\00:18:46.65 And then in verse 15 it says, 00:18:46.65\00:18:48.59 "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her, 00:18:48.59\00:18:53.40 for her hair is given to her for a covering." 00:18:53.40\00:18:56.83 So if a woman has long hair and she's prophesying 00:18:56.83\00:18:59.30 or praying church, should she still wear head covering 00:18:59.30\00:19:02.24 over her, over her hair? 00:19:02.24\00:19:04.41 - All right, here's the big question 00:19:04.41\00:19:06.07 and it's a valid question. 00:19:06.07\00:19:07.74 And this, whenever we get this question we need 00:19:07.74\00:19:10.61 to answer with some humility because it's a difficult verse. 00:19:10.61\00:19:13.88 The big question is, was Paul addressing a custom 00:19:15.02\00:19:19.15 or was he addressing a command? 00:19:19.15\00:19:21.69 There's no command earlier in the Bible 00:19:21.69\00:19:24.43 that women should not pray 00:19:24.43\00:19:26.19 with or without their heads covered. 00:19:26.19\00:19:28.06 I don't know if there's anything says anything about. 00:19:28.06\00:19:30.60 The only time it talks about covering the head is 00:19:30.60\00:19:32.30 sometimes if they were mourning 00:19:32.30\00:19:33.54 they would cover their heads. 00:19:33.54\00:19:35.07 So later in the same chapter, 00:19:36.47\00:19:38.71 and Pastor Ross, you probably can find the verse 00:19:38.71\00:19:40.84 that says, "For we have no such custom," 00:19:40.84\00:19:42.88 I think the word custom is actually used in this passage. 00:19:42.88\00:19:46.58 Let me give you an example, Claudette. 00:19:46.58\00:19:48.45 When I am in, oh, Japan or some places in India, 00:19:48.45\00:19:52.95 Pastor Ross and I were in a church in India 00:19:52.95\00:19:54.66 where they get 18,000 people all take off their shoes 00:19:54.66\00:19:58.46 and put them in cubby holes. 00:19:58.46\00:19:59.86 Well, it's considered bad manners and disrespectful 00:19:59.86\00:20:04.37 for you to walk in with your shoes. 00:20:04.37\00:20:08.24 And Paul is saying that it was a custom 00:20:08.24\00:20:11.44 that women as a sign of humility 00:20:11.44\00:20:13.01 that they cover their heads, 00:20:13.01\00:20:15.21 well, was that cultural? 00:20:15.21\00:20:16.34 And then Paul is saying, your hair is a covering. 00:20:16.34\00:20:19.15 God gives women a natural covering of hair, 00:20:19.15\00:20:21.25 typically more than men. 00:20:21.25\00:20:22.52 And then he later says in another place, it's a shame 00:20:23.89\00:20:25.62 for men to have long hair. 00:20:25.62\00:20:27.32 So he's just saying there, there ought to be 00:20:27.32\00:20:28.96 this distinction, but it appears it's a custom. 00:20:28.96\00:20:33.40 I have no qualms if some, if a woman says, 00:20:33.40\00:20:37.07 "I'm convicted, I should cover my head 00:20:37.07\00:20:38.53 "when I'm in church," 00:20:38.53\00:20:40.20 I say, "praise the Lord, you follow the Holy Spirit." 00:20:40.20\00:20:42.17 It certainly won't hurt anybody. 00:20:42.17\00:20:43.87 - I think the point also, Pastor Doug, is 00:20:43.87\00:20:45.37 it's emphasizing reverence in the the sanctuary. 00:20:45.37\00:20:47.98 And again, different customs, 00:20:47.98\00:20:49.18 different ways of doing things. 00:20:49.18\00:20:50.85 Back in Bible times, and again also in Middle East, 00:20:50.85\00:20:53.45 even today, that is a sign of reverence. 00:20:53.45\00:20:56.02 In our culture, Pastor Doug, it would be a sign 00:20:56.02\00:20:58.42 of disrespect or a lack of reverence if a man walks 00:20:58.42\00:21:03.39 into a church and he leaves on his big cowboy hat. 00:21:04.69\00:21:06.03 I mean, you remove your hat when you're come into a church. 00:21:06.03\00:21:08.46 That's a sign of respect. 00:21:08.46\00:21:09.50 So I think the context there is we need 00:21:09.50\00:21:11.97 to be reverent when we're entering to worship 00:21:11.97\00:21:14.20 and in the presence of God, 00:21:14.20\00:21:15.50 whatever that culture might be. 00:21:15.50\00:21:17.97 - Yeah and Paul was saying the women were behaving 00:21:17.97\00:21:20.61 in a scandalous, disrespectful way 00:21:20.61\00:21:22.98 in the Corinthian church and he was addressing that. 00:21:22.98\00:21:25.61 - You know, the verse you refer to is 00:21:25.61\00:21:26.95 also 1 Corinthians 11, verse 16, where Paul says, 00:21:26.95\00:21:30.12 "But if anyone seems to be contentious, 00:21:30.12\00:21:32.09 "we do not have such a custom nor do the churches of God." 00:21:32.09\00:21:35.82 So it's re referring to a specific situation 00:21:35.82\00:21:38.13 that was taking place there. 00:21:38.13\00:21:39.09 - Yep, amen. 00:21:39.09\00:21:40.23 - All right, thank you for your call. 00:21:40.23\00:21:41.66 We got Tayvision listening in Illinois. 00:21:41.66\00:21:43.70 Tayvision, welcome to the program. 00:21:43.70\00:21:45.37 - [Tayvision] My question is, 00:21:46.37\00:21:47.94 how do you know that the Holy Spirit's still working in you 00:21:47.94\00:21:52.87 if you've been a Christian for years and you've noticed 00:21:52.87\00:21:56.48 that you're not as sensitive or as passionate 00:21:56.48\00:22:00.28 about Christ as you used to be? 00:22:00.28\00:22:02.45 - Well first of all, don't get discouraged. 00:22:03.55\00:22:06.45 You've just described what it says in Revelation 2, 00:22:06.45\00:22:09.82 where he says the Ephesian church had lost its first love. 00:22:09.82\00:22:13.29 They were still His people, they were still His church. 00:22:13.29\00:22:15.86 You'll often see even in a marriage that during the time 00:22:15.86\00:22:18.47 of dating and honeymoon, there's just, 00:22:18.47\00:22:20.84 there's a lot of romance and excitement. 00:22:20.84\00:22:24.47 And then, you know, after 10 years of marriage, 00:22:24.47\00:22:26.91 things become a little more routine. 00:22:26.91\00:22:29.31 Well the Lord, you know, in our marriages, 00:22:29.31\00:22:30.88 we want to keep that love alive and also 00:22:30.88\00:22:32.61 in your relationship with the Lord. 00:22:32.61\00:22:35.08 It doesn't mean you're not a Christian anymore. 00:22:35.08\00:22:37.39 You know, even Mary and Joseph, they took their eyes 00:22:38.72\00:22:40.92 off Jesus when he was a young man. 00:22:40.92\00:22:42.32 They lost him in Jerusalem. 00:22:42.32\00:22:44.26 And Mary said, "We spent three days sorrowing 00:22:44.26\00:22:46.66 "and searching for you." 00:22:46.66\00:22:48.86 And if we take our eyes off Jesus, 00:22:48.86\00:22:50.57 sometimes we spend some time sorrowing 00:22:50.57\00:22:52.67 and searching to find Him again. 00:22:52.67\00:22:54.90 But I would say seek after the Lord and He'll be found. 00:22:54.90\00:22:59.04 That's the promise. 00:22:59.04\00:23:00.18 Draw near to God and he'll draw near to you. 00:23:00.18\00:23:01.98 You wanna renew that relationship, that love, 00:23:01.98\00:23:05.85 and the way that happens, He said, Jesus said, 00:23:05.85\00:23:07.95 "Do the first works." 00:23:07.95\00:23:09.62 I'm sure when you first fell in love with the Lord, 00:23:09.62\00:23:11.29 you were poring over His word, 00:23:11.29\00:23:12.52 you're spending time in prayer, 00:23:12.52\00:23:13.62 you were thinking about His presence, 00:23:13.62\00:23:15.09 you were sharing Him with your friends. 00:23:15.09\00:23:17.03 Do those things again and you'll find a renewal 00:23:17.03\00:23:20.46 in the Holy Spirit and the, you know, 00:23:20.46\00:23:22.66 your sense of God's presence. 00:23:22.66\00:23:24.83 - You know, I'm just wondering, Pastor Doug, 00:23:24.83\00:23:25.93 what book we have that might be-- 00:23:25.93\00:23:27.27 - "Twelve Steps to Revival". 00:23:27.27\00:23:28.54 - There we go, that's the one. 00:23:28.54\00:23:29.80 That'll be a great blessing to anyone wanting 00:23:29.80\00:23:31.91 to have a deeper, fuller experience with Jesus. 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.81 Read the book, we'll send it to you for free. 00:23:34.81\00:23:37.11 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:23:37.11\00:23:40.42 You can ask for the book "Twelve Steps for Revival" 00:23:40.42\00:23:43.25 and we'll be happy to send it to you. 00:23:43.25\00:23:44.65 Also, Pastor Doug, you did a series not too long ago 00:23:44.65\00:23:47.49 called "The New Heart", I think it's a 10 part series, 00:23:47.49\00:23:50.96 and that is available I believe on YouTube. 00:23:50.96\00:23:52.79 So if you wanna look that up, Doug Bachelor-- 00:23:52.79\00:23:54.36 - Amazing Facts website. 00:23:54.36\00:23:55.53 It's under our ministry right there. 00:23:55.53\00:23:57.53 - It's also on the Amazing Facts website. 00:23:57.53\00:23:58.77 So that'll be a blessing. 00:23:58.77\00:24:01.07 Next caller that we have is Daniel 00:24:01.07\00:24:02.74 and he's listening from V-I. 00:24:02.74\00:24:04.84 Where is that, Virginia? 00:24:04.84\00:24:06.78 Daniel, welcome to the program. 00:24:06.78\00:24:09.14 - [Daniel] Thank you pastors, good evening. 00:24:09.14\00:24:10.61 Yeah, calling from Virginia here. 00:24:10.61\00:24:12.85 Just a question on Revelation 14:7, 00:24:12.85\00:24:14.78 the first angel's message. 00:24:14.78\00:24:16.72 You know, I know that the last part 00:24:16.72\00:24:19.09 of the verse there is a direct reference 00:24:19.09\00:24:20.86 to the fourth commandment, the sabbath commandment. 00:24:20.86\00:24:23.63 I was just wondering whether commentators have said, 00:24:23.63\00:24:26.16 or in general it's understood 00:24:26.16\00:24:27.46 that the first three commandments can be found 00:24:27.46\00:24:29.66 in that verse, as well. 00:24:29.66\00:24:30.73 Fear God, would be the first commandment, 00:24:30.73\00:24:32.50 give glory to Him by reflecting His image, 00:24:32.50\00:24:34.47 the second commandment, 00:24:34.47\00:24:35.90 for the hours judgment has come. 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.57 In other words, judging between who's taking the name, 00:24:38.87\00:24:40.84 the Lord's name in vain and who's not. 00:24:40.84\00:24:43.01 I'm wondering if you can see, in general, 00:24:43.01\00:24:45.75 the first table of the fourth, or the 10 commandments, 00:24:45.75\00:24:48.88 there in that verse. 00:24:48.88\00:24:50.29 And in the counterpart verse as well, in Revelation 15:2, 00:24:50.29\00:24:55.09 where it talks about the victory over the beast, 00:24:56.22\00:24:57.26 the first commandment over his image, 00:24:57.26\00:24:58.79 the second commandment over his mark, 00:24:58.79\00:25:00.50 the fourth commandment, and over the number of his name, 00:25:00.50\00:25:03.13 which would be the third commandment. 00:25:03.13\00:25:04.30 I don't know if you see that 00:25:04.30\00:25:05.40 or if commentators have seen that, 00:25:05.40\00:25:06.77 or if that's kinda a stretch. 00:25:06.77\00:25:08.60 - Well, I don't know that I view it all the same way, 00:25:09.97\00:25:12.97 but it's interesting that you're saying this 00:25:12.97\00:25:14.41 because just moments before the program, 00:25:14.41\00:25:16.64 I was thinking about Revelation 14 00:25:16.64\00:25:18.95 and how Revelation 14 is sort of a condensed Bible. 00:25:18.95\00:25:22.98 The the last message is found in there. 00:25:22.98\00:25:25.25 And you're making me think as you're speaking 00:25:25.25\00:25:27.66 about just seeing the other commandments in this passage. 00:25:27.66\00:25:32.73 And for our friends that are listening 00:25:33.83\00:25:35.76 the Bible is written in chiastic form, 00:25:35.76\00:25:38.73 meaning that you've kind of got like the white bread, 00:25:38.73\00:25:43.81 let's say it's whole wheat bread just for health sake, 00:25:45.17\00:25:47.41 and then in the middle, you've got the substance. 00:25:47.41\00:25:49.98 And it's often in the Hebrew writings 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.98 that in the middle you'll find the climax. 00:25:51.98\00:25:54.22 Revelation 14 is like the climax of Revelation. 00:25:54.22\00:25:57.29 It's all concentrated in there. 00:25:57.29\00:25:59.49 And it sort of summarizes who is saved 00:25:59.49\00:26:02.92 and who is lost and why. 00:26:02.92\00:26:04.79 So you can also find, I think the law of God talks 00:26:04.79\00:26:07.93 about those who keep the commandments of God in verse 12. 00:26:07.93\00:26:11.07 That's fascinating. 00:26:11.07\00:26:12.63 I appreciate that. 00:26:12.63\00:26:14.10 You're giving me some ideas. 00:26:14.10\00:26:15.70 - First angel's message actually quotes 00:26:15.70\00:26:17.37 from the fourth commandment where it says, 00:26:17.37\00:26:18.71 "Worship Him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea." 00:26:18.71\00:26:21.88 So that's actually from part of the 10 Commandments. 00:26:21.88\00:26:24.45 - Yeah and I can see how you can see allusions 00:26:24.45\00:26:27.52 to the other commandments earlier 00:26:27.52\00:26:30.15 in that verse or other places. 00:26:30.15\00:26:31.89 Friends, we don't have time to do another question 00:26:33.19\00:26:34.72 before we finish our first half, 00:26:34.72\00:26:36.59 but we've got a lot more Bible question time coming. 00:26:36.59\00:26:39.19 So stay tuned, we have some important announcements for you. 00:26:39.19\00:26:41.53 We're gonna be back. 00:26:41.53\00:26:42.86 And call in with your Bible questions, 800-God-says, 00:26:42.86\00:26:46.40 800-God-says, and we'll be back in a moment. 00:26:46.40\00:26:49.60 (inspiring music) 00:26:49.60\00:26:52.94 - My name is John Ross and we've got Braunman listening 00:30:19.58\00:30:22.75 and ready with his question. 00:30:22.75\00:30:24.52 Braunman from Tennessee, welcome to the program. 00:30:24.52\00:30:26.62 - [Braunman] Hello, good evening. 00:30:26.62\00:30:28.86 - Evening. 00:30:28.86\00:30:29.76 And your question. 00:30:31.09\00:30:32.66 - [Braunman] If God knows the beginning to the end, 00:30:32.66\00:30:35.33 why did He create Satan? 00:30:35.33\00:30:36.80 - That's a good question. 00:30:37.80\00:30:39.03 Sometimes the Lord allows things even though He knows 00:30:40.50\00:30:44.51 that it's gonna cause problems. 00:30:44.51\00:30:46.81 He made all of His creatures free 00:30:46.81\00:30:49.74 and He even made a beautiful angel named Lucifer, 00:30:49.74\00:30:52.18 very powerful angel, made him free. 00:30:52.18\00:30:54.98 That means he's free to love God, 00:30:54.98\00:30:56.25 to worship God, to make choices. 00:30:56.25\00:30:58.42 Lucifer chose to not love God and to love himself more. 00:30:58.42\00:31:03.12 And all of the sin in the universe has come 00:31:03.12\00:31:05.96 from people making that choice. 00:31:05.96\00:31:08.00 So before... 00:31:09.30\00:31:11.50 Now, how old are you? 00:31:11.50\00:31:12.37 Do you mind my asking? 00:31:12.37\00:31:13.54 - [Braunman] I will be 21 in October, so I'm 20. 00:31:15.17\00:31:17.71 - You're 20, okay. 00:31:17.71\00:31:18.51 You sounded younger, forgive me. 00:31:18.51\00:31:20.11 When your parents decided to have you, 00:31:21.64\00:31:23.45 assuming it was a free choice, 00:31:23.45\00:31:25.51 did they get any kinda written guarantee 00:31:26.58\00:31:29.02 that you would always be cooperative 00:31:29.02\00:31:30.82 and a good child and obedient? 00:31:30.82\00:31:32.39 - [Braunman] No. 00:31:33.62\00:31:34.69 - But they took a risk 'cause they wanted 00:31:34.69\00:31:36.56 to love you and wanted love, 00:31:36.56\00:31:39.03 and that you might make other choices, right? 00:31:39.03\00:31:42.20 - [Braunman] Yes, sir. 00:31:43.43\00:31:44.90 - So God made His creatures and gave them freedom 00:31:44.90\00:31:47.04 to choose knowing there was a risk, 00:31:47.04\00:31:49.27 and He knew what Lucifer would do. 00:31:49.27\00:31:51.34 And it's demonstrating to the whole universe 00:31:51.34\00:31:54.41 what the problem of sin is and it'll never happen again. 00:31:54.41\00:31:58.35 But you know, we have a DVD. 00:31:59.71\00:32:02.22 - Well we do have the "Cosmic Conflict" DVD, 00:32:02.22\00:32:04.59 and Braunman or anyone listening or watching, 00:32:04.59\00:32:08.29 you can just simply go to the Amazing Facts website 00:32:08.29\00:32:10.73 and you'll be able to view that DVD there. 00:32:10.73\00:32:13.26 Or I think it's also available on YouTube. 00:32:13.26\00:32:15.26 We also have a study guide that's called 00:32:15.26\00:32:16.90 "Did God Create a Devil?" and we'll be happy 00:32:16.90\00:32:19.53 to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:32:19.53\00:32:21.20 The number is 800-835-6747 and ask for the book. 00:32:21.20\00:32:26.11 It's called "Did God Create a Devil?". 00:32:26.11\00:32:28.08 And we'll send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:32:28.08\00:32:30.65 Jose is listening in Puerto Rico. 00:32:30.65\00:32:32.28 Jose, welcome to the program. 00:32:32.28\00:32:33.78 - [Jose] Hello, welcome, can you hear me? 00:32:35.58\00:32:37.12 - We can, thanks for calling. 00:32:37.12\00:32:38.79 - [Jose] Ah, sure. 00:32:40.12\00:32:41.49 My question is, was Christ's suffering was a byproduct 00:32:41.49\00:32:44.83 of our sin or a requirement for our salvation? 00:32:44.83\00:32:49.33 I'm looking for tabernacle, and tabernacle of course, is 00:32:49.33\00:32:53.07 the representation of Jesus. 00:32:53.07\00:32:54.90 I mean the tabernacle, the sacrificial lamb. 00:32:54.90\00:32:58.54 does not have pass for a tribulation 00:32:58.54\00:33:01.81 like a suffering of Christ. 00:33:01.81\00:33:04.01 - Right. 00:33:04.01\00:33:05.41 Well of course, keep in mind that the sacrificial system 00:33:05.41\00:33:07.72 with lambs was symbolic. 00:33:07.72\00:33:10.12 Clearly, a lamb cannot think and experience the anguish 00:33:10.12\00:33:13.42 of a human of betrayal and those different things. 00:33:13.42\00:33:16.42 In fact, the priest kind of went out of the way 00:33:16.42\00:33:18.76 to make the sacrifice of the lamb as painless 00:33:18.76\00:33:20.90 and quick as possible because it all symbolized 00:33:20.90\00:33:24.07 Christ and His sacrifice. 00:33:24.07\00:33:25.93 But the sacrifice of Christ, 00:33:25.93\00:33:27.80 the hardest part was not actually the death, 00:33:28.87\00:33:30.44 it was the suffering, the separation from God 00:33:30.44\00:33:33.21 in the death that He experienced. 00:33:33.21\00:33:35.08 That's like when Jonah went into the belly of the whale 00:33:35.08\00:33:37.58 for three days and three nights. 00:33:37.58\00:33:38.65 Jesus, when God withdrew his protection there 00:33:38.65\00:33:41.98 in the Garden of Gethsemane, 00:33:41.98\00:33:43.32 He went through incredible suffering and turmoil 00:33:43.32\00:33:45.89 where He was weeping in the garden, perspiring blood. 00:33:45.89\00:33:48.89 So the lamb, I wouldn't try and make a too strong 00:33:48.89\00:33:52.73 of a comparison 'cause the lamb was simply a symbol. 00:33:52.73\00:33:55.63 - A symbol of Jesus, and of course, the wages 00:33:55.63\00:33:57.40 of sin is death, and that's what was emphasized. 00:33:57.40\00:33:59.93 But along with the wages of sin, there is suffering. 00:33:59.93\00:34:03.41 We know that everyone at the end 00:34:03.41\00:34:04.91 will be rewarded according to their works, 00:34:04.91\00:34:06.64 so that's both for the righteous and the unrighteous. 00:34:06.64\00:34:08.81 There are degrees of judgment, 00:34:08.81\00:34:11.08 degrees of punishment for the wicked. 00:34:11.08\00:34:13.05 Christ suffered for the sins of the whole world, 00:34:13.05\00:34:14.92 the Bible tells us. 00:34:14.92\00:34:15.98 All right. - Thank you, Jose. 00:34:17.25\00:34:18.39 - Fred in Oregon, Fred, welcome to the program. 00:34:18.39\00:34:20.89 - [Fred] Thank you much, thanks for taking my call. 00:34:22.26\00:34:24.39 My question, Matthew 25, verse 9, 00:34:25.39\00:34:29.30 where the five foolish asked the five wise 00:34:29.30\00:34:32.80 for some of their oil, and they said no, 00:34:32.80\00:34:34.47 that they had to go to those that sell to buy their own. 00:34:34.47\00:34:38.37 Now I know in Revelation 13, if you have, 00:34:38.37\00:34:42.21 you can't buy or sell unless you have the mark, 00:34:42.21\00:34:44.35 so is this an indication 00:34:44.35\00:34:45.85 that these five foolish have the mark? 00:34:45.85\00:34:49.85 - You know, I think that the parable of the 10 virgins is 00:34:49.85\00:34:53.62 not just talking about the mark of the beast 00:34:53.62\00:34:56.93 and the seal of God, I think it's talking 00:34:56.93\00:34:58.66 about professed Christians. 00:34:58.66\00:35:01.86 And it not only applies to the last days 00:35:01.86\00:35:04.03 'cause Jesus does make Matthew 25 is 00:35:04.03\00:35:06.94 on the heels of the signs of His second coming. 00:35:06.94\00:35:09.90 But I think in every age God has had His people 00:35:09.90\00:35:12.77 that some that had a knowing relationship, 00:35:12.77\00:35:15.01 they had the Holy Spirit, they had a reserve, 00:35:15.01\00:35:18.51 and those who are careless and they were not watching 00:35:18.51\00:35:21.22 and praying, they were not ready. 00:35:21.22\00:35:22.92 They had not fortified their faith for times of trial 00:35:22.92\00:35:25.59 and darkness, or they lost their patience. 00:35:25.59\00:35:29.12 You know, the Bible talks about he that endures 00:35:29.12\00:35:30.79 to the end will be saved. 00:35:30.79\00:35:32.33 Certainly in the last days, those that are lost, 00:35:32.33\00:35:34.83 the five foolish virgins, they would be getting the mark 00:35:34.83\00:35:38.37 of the beast and the five who have it, have the oil, 00:35:38.37\00:35:43.44 they're gonna have the seal of God, they'll be saved. 00:35:44.81\00:35:46.34 But, I don't know if I'm answering what you're asking. 00:35:46.34\00:35:50.01 (Fred chuckling) 00:35:51.51\00:35:53.72 - It's just been something that I've wondered about 00:35:53.72\00:35:56.05 because we obviously we, in the last days, are not able to-- 00:35:56.05\00:35:59.25 - Can't buy or sell. 00:35:59.25\00:36:00.96 - [Fred] Can't buy or sell. 00:36:00.96\00:36:02.62 And I just didn't know with these-- 00:36:02.62\00:36:04.69 - Well, with the 10 virgins-- 00:36:04.69\00:36:05.73 - [Fred] With these five foolish. 00:36:05.73\00:36:07.03 - Yeah, when the wise virgins, pardon me for jumping in, 00:36:07.03\00:36:09.40 but when the wise virgins tell the foolish, 00:36:09.40\00:36:11.00 you must buy for yourself, 00:36:11.00\00:36:12.63 we cannot take someone else's experience from them. 00:36:12.63\00:36:17.21 We must have our own experience. 00:36:17.21\00:36:18.81 They said you've gotta have it for yourself. 00:36:18.81\00:36:21.74 And they waited too long to have that personal experience 00:36:23.11\00:36:24.71 or to have that filling with the Holy Spirit. 00:36:24.71\00:36:27.92 And you know, that that applies, it's a truth in every time. 00:36:27.92\00:36:32.32 I don't think it's talking so much about buying and selling. 00:36:32.32\00:36:35.22 Where is it, in Revelation chapter three 00:36:35.22\00:36:37.43 where Jesus says to the Church of Laodicea, you know, 00:36:37.43\00:36:40.80 "Buy of me gold tried in the fire." 00:36:40.80\00:36:43.87 And then Isaiah says, oh everyone that there's, 00:36:43.87\00:36:46.07 "Buy without money without price." 00:36:46.07\00:36:47.94 And so what it says, buy doesn't always mean going 00:36:47.94\00:36:51.27 to the market and pulling out your credit card. 00:36:51.27\00:36:54.11 Buy means go obtain. 00:36:54.11\00:36:55.78 - And these are all profess followers of Christ. 00:36:57.05\00:36:59.25 Describes them as waiting for the bridegroom. 00:36:59.25\00:37:01.72 - And they're virgins. 00:37:01.72\00:37:02.82 - That's right, they have a pure faith. 00:37:02.82\00:37:04.19 They have the lamp, which represents the word of God. 00:37:04.19\00:37:07.09 So even with amongst those who profess to be waiting 00:37:07.09\00:37:09.96 for the coming of Jesus, you've got the wise 00:37:09.96\00:37:12.26 and you've got the foolish. 00:37:12.26\00:37:13.56 Now the foolish will eventually get the mark of the beast, 00:37:13.56\00:37:16.10 but at that time where they're all together, 00:37:16.10\00:37:18.47 they're all professing to follow Christ. 00:37:18.47\00:37:20.10 So it's sort of a warning, a wake up call 00:37:20.10\00:37:22.14 for the church, I think. 00:37:22.14\00:37:23.47 - Yeah, and they're all waiting for the bridegroom to come. 00:37:23.47\00:37:25.14 That's right. 00:37:25.14\00:37:26.24 All right, thank you for your call. 00:37:26.24\00:37:27.24 We've got John listening in Nebraska. 00:37:27.24\00:37:29.91 John in Nebraska, welcome. 00:37:29.91\00:37:31.35 - [John] That's right, thank you for taking my call. 00:37:32.68\00:37:34.48 Appreciate it, watch you guys all the time. 00:37:34.48\00:37:37.19 - Thank you, John. 00:37:37.19\00:37:38.49 And your question. 00:37:38.49\00:37:39.89 - [John] Well it's kind of a mixed up question, 00:37:39.89\00:37:42.12 but I'll try to get it out the way I want to, 00:37:42.12\00:37:44.49 talking to your man beforehand. 00:37:44.49\00:37:47.60 Jesus said, "If you lust after a woman 00:37:47.60\00:37:49.36 "you have committed adultery in your heart." 00:37:49.36\00:37:51.63 If a man is watching porn all the time 00:37:52.73\00:37:54.80 and he's lusting after the women, 00:37:54.80\00:37:56.14 he's committing adultery in his heart. 00:37:56.14\00:37:57.77 If a wife gets a divorce, can she remarry? 00:37:57.77\00:38:00.81 That'd be my question. 00:38:00.81\00:38:02.14 - Okay, what you said makes sense. 00:38:02.14\00:38:04.75 First of all, I would not compare a man 00:38:05.81\00:38:09.52 or a woman who's having a struggle with pornography 00:38:09.52\00:38:13.49 as being the same thing as committing an actual affair. 00:38:13.49\00:38:18.03 You know, in most laws, most countries, thinking 00:38:19.16\00:38:23.16 about murdering someone is definitely not the same thing 00:38:23.16\00:38:26.20 as murdering somebody. 00:38:26.20\00:38:28.30 And so when a person is committing adultery in their 00:38:28.30\00:38:31.64 heart, there's definitely sin in the heart, and Jesus says that. 00:38:31.64\00:38:33.78 And there's a sin of adultery in the heart, 00:38:33.78\00:38:36.01 but it's not the same as committing the act of adultery. 00:38:36.01\00:38:38.51 And I think that's so important to understand 00:38:38.51\00:38:40.72 because I've met men and women before that said, 00:38:40.72\00:38:43.42 "Well, I'm thinking about it, I may as well do it." 00:38:43.42\00:38:45.89 There's a big difference between the two. 00:38:45.89\00:38:48.79 And I've talked to women before and they said, 00:38:48.79\00:38:51.93 "My husband, I caught him viewing pornography 00:38:51.93\00:38:55.66 "and so that's adultery and so I'm gonna divorce him." 00:38:55.66\00:38:58.33 I also think that's a mistake. 00:38:58.33\00:39:00.37 I don't think this is what Jesus is talking about. 00:39:00.37\00:39:03.30 Now, it is certainly a sin if a woman divorces a man 00:39:03.30\00:39:07.71 and she does not have biblical grounds 00:39:07.71\00:39:09.44 or if a man divorces his wife. 00:39:09.44\00:39:10.91 Christ said they don't really have a right to remarry. 00:39:10.91\00:39:13.48 And I know I'll probably get letters on this that, you know, 00:39:14.82\00:39:18.35 people are gonna say, "Well, it's the same thing." 00:39:18.35\00:39:21.52 I actually went into depth in my book 00:39:21.52\00:39:24.56 on marriage, divorce, and remarriage. 00:39:24.56\00:39:26.93 I talk about this 'cause a lot of people 00:39:26.93\00:39:28.70 have asked about it. 00:39:28.70\00:39:30.63 Pornography's an epidemic today. 00:39:30.63\00:39:32.80 And there's a lot of people that are wondering, 00:39:32.80\00:39:35.37 "Well, since my spouse has had a problem 00:39:35.37\00:39:37.71 "with this is that grounds for divorce?" 00:39:37.71\00:39:41.38 It becomes a really slippery slope when you say yes 00:39:41.38\00:39:44.08 because some people describe pornography 00:39:44.08\00:39:47.55 as the daytime soap operas, 00:39:47.55\00:39:49.15 two people obviously committing adultery. 00:39:50.62\00:39:52.59 And it goes from there all the way 00:39:52.59\00:39:53.96 to what they call hard porn. 00:39:53.96\00:39:56.02 And so where do you draw the line? 00:39:56.02\00:39:58.43 If you start saying, "Thinking it is the same as doing it," 00:39:58.43\00:40:01.16 then, you know, you can drive by a billboard 00:40:01.16\00:40:04.13 with a girl in a bathing suit and say, 00:40:04.13\00:40:05.50 "Now I can file for divorce." 00:40:05.50\00:40:07.80 And so you've gotta be very careful. 00:40:07.80\00:40:09.50 I hope that makes sense to everybody. 00:40:09.50\00:40:10.84 - And of course, I think you're emphasizing the fact, 00:40:10.84\00:40:12.31 Pastor Doug, that it's still sin. 00:40:12.31\00:40:13.61 Jesus makes it very clear. 00:40:13.61\00:40:14.91 It's something that needs to be repented of. 00:40:14.91\00:40:16.71 And if somebody continues down those paths, 00:40:16.71\00:40:20.42 they are gonna eventually harden their heart 00:40:20.42\00:40:22.38 against the prompting the Holy Spirit. 00:40:22.38\00:40:23.92 - And the attitude often leads to the action. 00:40:23.92\00:40:26.09 - Exactly, exactly. 00:40:26.09\00:40:27.29 But it's not necessarily the same thing. 00:40:27.29\00:40:29.39 So we need to be aware of that. 00:40:29.39\00:40:31.03 Good question, thank you for calling. 00:40:31.03\00:40:32.39 Next caller that we have is Guy listening from California. 00:40:32.39\00:40:35.03 Guy, welcome to the program. 00:40:35.03\00:40:36.46 - [Guy] Hello, thank you for taking my call. 00:40:36.46\00:40:38.73 So my question is regarding Genesis 31, verse 19. 00:40:38.73\00:40:43.71 And it says in that verse that Laban had gone 00:40:45.67\00:40:48.94 to see to the cutting of the wool of his sheep. 00:40:48.94\00:40:51.68 So Rachel secretly took the images of the gods 00:40:51.68\00:40:54.95 of her father's house. 00:40:54.95\00:40:56.89 So why did Rachel steal images or of gods of Laban? 00:40:56.89\00:41:01.86 Or is there some kind of a secret power 00:41:03.09\00:41:06.83 to these gods or these idols? 00:41:06.83\00:41:08.90 I mean, were they gonna tell him or tell? 00:41:08.90\00:41:12.27 Were they gonna tell him where Rachel and--? 00:41:13.97\00:41:17.04 - Yeah, the word gods there, they used to have idols 00:41:18.54\00:41:23.08 that were like, it was a God 00:41:23.08\00:41:25.08 and it was something of like a property deed. 00:41:25.08\00:41:28.35 You'll read later where, well, first of all, 00:41:28.35\00:41:30.92 I highly recommend that nobody has a god that can be stolen, 00:41:32.32\00:41:35.09 because if your god can be packed 00:41:35.09\00:41:36.69 in someone's saddle bag and ridden off with, 00:41:36.69\00:41:38.63 you got a pretty small god. 00:41:38.63\00:41:40.33 So that always strikes me as funny that Laban comes, says, 00:41:40.33\00:41:43.70 "You stole my gods." 00:41:43.70\00:41:45.37 (Pastor Doug chuckling) 00:41:45.37\00:41:46.70 And she put 'em in the saddle bag 00:41:46.70\00:41:48.50 and sat on them, sitting on his gods. 00:41:48.50\00:41:51.61 So most commentators that I've seen, Pastor Ross, 00:41:51.61\00:41:54.41 you may have seen something different in this, 00:41:54.41\00:41:56.31 they say that because the daughters said to Jacob, 00:41:56.31\00:42:01.28 "Our father has taken our dowry, he hasn't given everything 00:42:02.58\00:42:05.55 "that we should have gotten as a dowry. 00:42:05.55\00:42:07.59 "He's taken from us, he spent it." 00:42:07.59\00:42:09.29 And the girls wanting to have something 00:42:09.29\00:42:11.53 of value took, or at least Rachel took these gods, 00:42:11.53\00:42:14.83 these idols, which were like property deeds. 00:42:14.83\00:42:17.63 And they had some value attached to 'em. 00:42:18.70\00:42:21.40 There were some monetary value attached to it. 00:42:21.40\00:42:23.07 - And I think it's also clear that, you know, the family, 00:42:23.07\00:42:26.47 Rachel's family, Laban and alike, 00:42:26.47\00:42:28.94 even though they claimed to worship the true God, 00:42:28.94\00:42:32.18 the customs of those living around them, 00:42:32.18\00:42:34.28 it probably crept into their understanding 00:42:34.28\00:42:37.22 for that reason was important that God was 00:42:37.22\00:42:38.92 to take Abraham and his descendants 00:42:38.92\00:42:41.02 out from the land of Ur. 00:42:41.02\00:42:42.92 So there was kind of a little bit of a mix of idolatry. 00:42:42.92\00:42:45.23 And maybe that was also part of the reason, 00:42:45.23\00:42:46.90 here she's leaving home, she wants to take something maybe 00:42:46.90\00:42:49.96 to remind her of home. 00:42:49.96\00:42:50.93 - No, they were a little idols. 00:42:50.93\00:42:52.93 But I don't know that they worshiped them. 00:42:52.93\00:42:54.30 But they did have little idols, I think, 00:42:54.30\00:42:56.30 that were sort of like gods. 00:42:56.30\00:42:57.54 - Carved out of stone or whatever it is. 00:42:57.54\00:42:59.11 And they had value and they could be sold for something. 00:42:59.11\00:43:01.58 - Yeah. - All right, interesting. 00:43:01.58\00:43:02.88 Good question. 00:43:02.88\00:43:04.25 All right, we've got Jared listening from Missouri. 00:43:04.25\00:43:06.45 Jared, welcome to the program. 00:43:06.45\00:43:08.02 - [Jared] Hello, thank you. 00:43:09.02\00:43:10.62 - Yes, thank you Jared. 00:43:10.62\00:43:11.75 Your question. 00:43:11.75\00:43:12.65 - [Jared] My question is, if we're supposed 00:43:14.02\00:43:15.52 to judge the evil angels, doesn't that mean 00:43:15.52\00:43:18.53 we were predestined to fall into temptation 00:43:18.53\00:43:21.30 at the Garden of Eden since we had to know good 00:43:21.30\00:43:25.57 and evil at the tree of good and evil? 00:43:25.57\00:43:28.44 - I'm not sure I understand the rational of your question. 00:43:29.80\00:43:32.67 You mean that the Bible, does this. 00:43:32.67\00:43:33.78 "Do you not know that you will judge angels?" 00:43:33.78\00:43:35.61 I agree with that. 00:43:35.61\00:43:37.21 So you're saying that that somehow is 00:43:37.21\00:43:39.61 connected with predestination? 00:43:39.61\00:43:41.42 - [Jared] Yeah 'cause we had to, 00:43:42.65\00:43:47.02 to know evil, we had to eat the fruit 00:43:47.02\00:43:49.79 of good and evil to judge, right? 00:43:49.79\00:43:51.56 - Yeah, well I think, let's just back up 00:43:53.23\00:43:55.63 and talk about what the verse is saying. 00:43:55.63\00:43:57.47 I think Paul is telling us that, when he says, 00:43:57.47\00:43:59.47 "Know you not that you will judge Angels," 00:43:59.47\00:44:00.90 he's talking, I think that's 1 Corinthians 7. 00:44:00.90\00:44:02.77 He's saying you need to be able 00:44:02.77\00:44:04.41 to judge in the smallest matters. 00:44:04.41\00:44:05.67 Don't you know you're gonna even judge angels? 00:44:05.67\00:44:07.61 Well obviously Christians are not gonna decide 00:44:07.61\00:44:09.71 if angels are saved or lost. 00:44:09.71\00:44:12.18 When we get to heaven, the veil's pulled aside, 00:44:12.18\00:44:14.45 we're gonna not only see our guardian angels, 00:44:14.45\00:44:16.79 we probably are going to see the angels 00:44:16.79\00:44:18.95 that were our menaces during our lives or our adversaries 00:44:18.95\00:44:24.03 that Satan had appointed to tempt us. 00:44:25.03\00:44:26.76 And we're gonna say, "Yes, this angel was the one 00:44:26.76\00:44:29.73 "that was leading me into sin 00:44:29.73\00:44:32.47 "and he deserves his punishment." 00:44:32.47\00:44:35.30 So we'll be affirming the judgements 00:44:35.30\00:44:37.17 of God, I think, in that. 00:44:37.17\00:44:39.71 But I don't know why predestination would need 00:44:39.71\00:44:42.78 to fit into that scenario. 00:44:42.78\00:44:44.55 - In other words, can you judge without knowing evil, 00:44:44.55\00:44:46.85 between good and evil? 00:44:46.85\00:44:48.52 Well I think you can. 00:44:48.52\00:44:49.95 I mean, to judge is to discern 00:44:49.95\00:44:51.85 and even Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, 00:44:51.85\00:44:53.99 it was never God's purpose or desire that they eat 00:44:53.99\00:44:56.29 from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 00:44:56.29\00:44:58.63 But they could choose and they could discern 00:44:58.63\00:45:01.23 and say, "Nope, we don't want to eat of that, 00:45:01.23\00:45:02.86 "we do want to eat of this." 00:45:02.86\00:45:04.37 So it doesn't necessarily mean that you have 00:45:04.37\00:45:05.97 to partake of evil to know that it's bad. 00:45:05.97\00:45:10.34 - Right. 00:45:10.34\00:45:11.67 We do have a book that talks about predestination 00:45:11.67\00:45:13.78 and it's called "Can A Saved Man Choose to Be Lost?" 00:45:13.78\00:45:16.54 - If you'd like receive that, 00:45:16.54\00:45:17.65 the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:45:17.65\00:45:20.68 You can ask for the book, 00:45:20.68\00:45:21.75 "Can A Saved Man Choose to be Lost?". 00:45:21.75\00:45:23.59 We'll be happy to send that to anyone in North America. 00:45:23.59\00:45:26.52 Next caller that we have, Connor, 00:45:26.52\00:45:27.82 listening from Colorado. 00:45:27.82\00:45:29.02 Connor, welcome to the program. 00:45:29.02\00:45:30.23 Thanks for your patience. 00:45:30.23\00:45:31.53 - [Conner] Yep, thank you. 00:45:32.66\00:45:33.80 How are you guys? 00:45:33.80\00:45:34.73 - Doing great. 00:45:34.73\00:45:35.60 - [Connor] Alrighty, so I've been keeping 00:45:37.33\00:45:40.44 the original sabbath for a while now, 00:45:40.44\00:45:43.41 and I had some friends and family 00:45:43.41\00:45:45.21 that just kind of argued with the importance, 00:45:45.21\00:45:48.21 of course, in a friendly way. 00:45:48.21\00:45:49.84 And I just wanted to know what the importance was 00:45:49.84\00:45:51.85 of keeping the original sabbath. 00:45:51.85\00:45:53.92 - Well, when you say the original sabbath, you know, 00:45:53.92\00:45:56.62 the Bible tells us that God created the world in six days, 00:45:56.62\00:46:00.76 that He blessed the seventh day. 00:46:00.76\00:46:03.29 That was reiterated for the children of Israel. 00:46:03.29\00:46:05.53 When He saved them, He said, "Remember." 00:46:05.53\00:46:07.23 Now God wanted to say remember 00:46:07.23\00:46:08.56 if something didn't prior exist. 00:46:08.56\00:46:11.60 They had forgotten it, living among the Egyptians. 00:46:11.60\00:46:13.90 He said, "Remember the," I've set aside a day 00:46:13.90\00:46:16.07 for spiritual and physical rest to worship God. 00:46:16.07\00:46:19.74 And God blessed that day. 00:46:19.74\00:46:20.98 God rested that day. 00:46:20.98\00:46:22.21 He says I've blessed a particular day, the seventh day, 00:46:22.21\00:46:25.25 and I want you to remember the seventh day. 00:46:25.25\00:46:26.78 And it says at three times there. 00:46:26.78\00:46:28.68 He bless the seventh day, 00:46:28.68\00:46:29.78 He sanctified the seventh day. 00:46:29.78\00:46:31.05 And He asks us to remember that. 00:46:31.05\00:46:33.09 Well, over time during the time of the Roman era, 00:46:33.09\00:46:38.03 there was got a lot of compromise 00:46:38.03\00:46:39.63 and they gradually switched from the seventh day 00:46:39.63\00:46:42.26 to the first day, and you can read 00:46:42.26\00:46:45.23 about that during the time of Constantine. 00:46:45.23\00:46:47.40 He's the one who published the Edict of Milan. 00:46:47.40\00:46:49.97 I would say that if it's one of the 10 Commandments, 00:46:51.31\00:46:53.11 how important is one of the 10 commandments? 00:46:53.11\00:46:55.91 And you know, some will argue it doesn't matter 00:46:55.91\00:46:57.91 what day it is, as long as it's a seventh day. 00:46:57.91\00:47:00.52 But God doesn't say keep a seventh day, 00:47:00.52\00:47:02.35 He says keep the seventh day. 00:47:02.35\00:47:04.25 It's a particular day. 00:47:04.25\00:47:05.79 God didn't say for everybody to pick their own day. 00:47:05.79\00:47:07.92 Think about the chaos that would be 00:47:07.92\00:47:10.43 in the Christian Church if everyone picks their own day 00:47:10.43\00:47:12.33 of worship and there's no corporate worship. 00:47:12.33\00:47:14.76 So you know, the sabbath can be traced 00:47:14.76\00:47:18.63 all the way back to Adam and Eve. 00:47:18.63\00:47:20.70 They kept it in the Old Testament. 00:47:20.70\00:47:22.74 The apostles kept it, Jesus kept it. 00:47:22.74\00:47:24.77 And it says in Isaiah we're gonna keep it in heaven. 00:47:24.77\00:47:27.48 So that's a quick summary; it's still important. 00:47:27.48\00:47:30.75 We have a lesson on that that has all these. 00:47:30.75\00:47:32.41 - We do, it's called "The Lost Day of History" 00:47:32.41\00:47:34.32 and we'll be happy to send this 00:47:34.32\00:47:35.38 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:47:35.38\00:47:36.52 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:47:36.52\00:47:39.72 Ask for the Amazing Facts study guide. 00:47:39.72\00:47:41.32 It's called "The Lost Day in History". 00:47:41.32\00:47:43.86 We also have a website called SabbathTruth.com 00:47:43.86\00:47:46.90 that's filled with great Bible studies. 00:47:46.90\00:47:49.13 There's video all on the subject of the Bible sabbath. 00:47:49.13\00:47:52.07 And you'll enjoy taking a look at that. 00:47:52.07\00:47:53.97 We've got Bruce listening from North Carolina. 00:47:53.97\00:47:56.10 Bruce, welcome to the program. 00:47:56.10\00:47:57.67 - [Bruce] Hello pastors. 00:47:58.71\00:48:00.34 - Hi, thank you for calling. 00:48:00.34\00:48:01.94 - [Bruce] I would like for you to explain 00:48:03.01\00:48:05.91 time prophecy in Daniel 12. 00:48:05.91\00:48:09.25 - All right, now for our friends that are listening, 00:48:09.25\00:48:11.39 the last chapter of Daniel, Daniel chapter 12 00:48:11.39\00:48:14.89 brings about a summary of the prophecies 00:48:14.89\00:48:18.23 mentioned earlier in the book. 00:48:18.23\00:48:21.06 Daniel outlines the history of God's people 00:48:21.06\00:48:24.80 and the battle they're going to have with good and evil. 00:48:24.80\00:48:26.70 And even highlights the beast's power 00:48:26.70\00:48:29.50 in Daniel in chapters 7, 8, 9, 11. 00:48:29.50\00:48:34.01 And so when you get to chapter 12, 00:48:36.54\00:48:38.55 he backs up and he reviews those time periods. 00:48:38.55\00:48:41.15 One time is 1,260 years. 00:48:41.15\00:48:44.09 Then there's another time that is 1,290 years. 00:48:44.09\00:48:46.76 And there's 1,335 years. 00:48:46.76\00:48:49.56 And you know, I said a minute ago, 00:48:49.56\00:48:50.59 we try to summarize our questions 00:48:50.59\00:48:52.33 in two or three minutes. 00:48:52.33\00:48:53.46 It's hard to do that with this question. 00:48:53.46\00:48:56.53 But those three time prophecies, you can see that, 00:48:56.53\00:48:59.07 well let's start with the 1260. 00:48:59.07\00:49:01.24 1260 is mentioned several times in the Bible. 00:49:01.24\00:49:05.37 1260 in the Jewish year, that's 1,260 days, 00:49:05.37\00:49:10.21 that is three and a half years. 00:49:10.21\00:49:11.85 Jesus taught for three and a half years, 00:49:11.85\00:49:13.72 the famine of Elijah three and a half years, 00:49:13.72\00:49:16.08 Esther's process to choose Esther began 00:49:17.22\00:49:19.59 three and a half years after this feast, 00:49:19.59\00:49:22.12 or after the book begins, up to the feast. 00:49:22.12\00:49:26.83 And in Daniel, it talks about a time, 00:49:28.33\00:49:30.23 a times and the dividing of a time. 00:49:30.23\00:49:32.83 A time was a year, a times was a pair or a couple of years, 00:49:32.83\00:49:35.64 so it's two and one is three, and a dividing, a half. 00:49:35.64\00:49:39.64 42 months is in Revelation, 42 months, 00:49:39.64\00:49:42.54 30 days is the Jewish month, 1,260 days. 00:49:42.54\00:49:45.41 You've got that time period talks about a time 00:49:45.41\00:49:47.68 of apostasy, resistance, persecution. 00:49:47.68\00:49:51.22 Happens several times in the Bible. 00:49:51.22\00:49:52.99 And so that is one of the principle times 00:49:52.99\00:49:56.49 it's repeated in Revelation. 00:49:56.49\00:49:58.23 Daniel adds the time 1290 and 1335 because he gives 00:49:58.23\00:50:02.73 a starting point in Christian history when, 00:50:02.73\00:50:06.43 - Clovis. 00:50:07.57\00:50:08.70 - Yeah, Clovis, the king of the Franks, 00:50:08.70\00:50:10.04 the Holy Roman Empire basically was inaugurated. 00:50:10.04\00:50:12.81 - Yeah, the date for that, 508. 00:50:12.81\00:50:14.84 And what's significant about that date is 00:50:14.84\00:50:17.61 Clovis, who was leader of the Franks, was in opposition 00:50:17.61\00:50:21.42 at first to the Roman power, to the papacy. 00:50:21.42\00:50:24.75 But when he converted to Christianity, he was a pagan, 00:50:24.75\00:50:26.96 when he converted to Christianity, 00:50:26.96\00:50:28.29 that really opened up the whole area known today 00:50:28.29\00:50:32.29 as France to become supportive of the papal power. 00:50:32.29\00:50:36.60 So 508 is considered the starting date for that 1290. 00:50:36.60\00:50:40.84 And the 1335, starting at that same date in 508 brings you 00:50:40.84\00:50:44.51 up to 1843, when there was a great revival 00:50:44.51\00:50:47.51 that was taking place in North America 00:50:47.51\00:50:49.18 and other places around the world. 00:50:49.18\00:50:51.08 And they were discovering the prophecies of Daniel, 00:50:51.08\00:50:53.72 in particular, the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14. 00:50:53.72\00:50:56.32 So just a really interesting study when you look 00:50:56.32\00:50:59.09 at these different time periods. 00:50:59.09\00:51:00.42 You know, Pastor Doug, we probably, 00:51:00.42\00:51:01.79 I don't think we have a book specifically on Daniel 12, 00:51:01.79\00:51:04.56 but maybe that's something we work on. 00:51:04.56\00:51:05.66 - We need to write one. 00:51:05.66\00:51:06.96 - Yeah. - As you're talking. 00:51:06.96\00:51:08.06 We get this question, we need to write something. 00:51:08.06\00:51:09.76 - Yeah, absolutely. 00:51:09.76\00:51:10.80 All right, well thanks for your call. 00:51:10.80\00:51:11.90 We've got, let's see, Jim listening in Canada. 00:51:11.90\00:51:14.14 Jim, welcome to the program. 00:51:14.14\00:51:15.70 - [Jim] Thank you very much for having me on. 00:51:15.70\00:51:18.21 - Yeah. 00:51:18.21\00:51:19.27 - [Jim] 'Cause I do like to say you guys are 00:51:19.27\00:51:20.64 my favorite pastors on TV. 00:51:20.64\00:51:23.01 - Well, thank you. 00:51:23.01\00:51:24.35 - [Jim] I've joined the Seventh Day a few years ago 00:51:24.35\00:51:26.92 and it's a blessing. 00:51:28.12\00:51:29.85 - Well, bless your heart. 00:51:29.85\00:51:30.69 Thank you. 00:51:30.69\00:51:32.25 - [Jim] Well, my question is, is the commandment 00:51:32.25\00:51:35.16 of thou shall not kill. 00:51:35.16\00:51:37.26 And I noticed that a lot of pastors are saying, 00:51:38.99\00:51:42.93 "Thou shall not murder." 00:51:42.93\00:51:44.63 Now to me, that's changing it 00:51:44.63\00:51:47.70 and God said not to change it. 00:51:47.70\00:51:49.37 So, and I've noticed, like when I watched 00:51:50.57\00:51:53.24 that movie, "Hacksaw Ridge", Doss could not be swayed 00:51:53.24\00:51:58.05 and he did not kill. 00:51:58.05\00:52:00.45 And he performed a, to me, a super miracle, 00:52:00.45\00:52:03.52 he saved all those people on that ridge. 00:52:03.52\00:52:06.22 - Yeah, it was remarkable. 00:52:06.22\00:52:08.32 Well, let me talk about that. 00:52:08.32\00:52:10.06 Yeah, he refused to pick up a gun 00:52:10.06\00:52:12.73 and he was not gonna kill. 00:52:12.73\00:52:13.96 He was a fellow human. 00:52:13.96\00:52:16.16 And of course, Jesus tells us to overcome evil with good. 00:52:16.16\00:52:19.83 By the way, I knew Desmond Doss and just a wonderful man. 00:52:19.83\00:52:23.91 His wife was, her family was at a church I pastored, 00:52:25.97\00:52:29.91 so I'd see him on a regular basis. 00:52:29.91\00:52:31.35 He'd come up to visit her family. 00:52:31.35\00:52:33.52 Anyway, Jesus actually uses the word, 00:52:33.52\00:52:37.42 and you might look this up, Pastor Ross, 00:52:37.42\00:52:38.79 I think it's in Mark chapter 10, 00:52:38.79\00:52:40.66 when Jesus is quoting the 10 Commandments 00:52:40.66\00:52:42.52 to the rich young ruler and He quotes that commandment. 00:52:42.52\00:52:44.79 He specifically says, "Thou shall not murder." 00:52:44.79\00:52:47.93 Now, there is a difference between murder and killing. 00:52:47.93\00:52:51.17 And I think you'll agree, Jim, that you know, 00:52:51.17\00:52:53.27 if you step on a weed and you kill it, 00:52:53.27\00:52:55.20 you're not gonna be called a murderer, 00:52:55.20\00:52:56.94 and that's not breaking that commandment, 00:52:56.94\00:52:58.64 "Thou shalt not kill." 00:52:58.64\00:53:00.18 Or if a mosquito's biting you and you swat it 00:53:00.18\00:53:02.71 to put it out of its misery, 00:53:02.71\00:53:04.68 you've technically killed the mosquito, 00:53:05.78\00:53:07.72 but you've not broken the commandment, 00:53:07.72\00:53:09.08 "Thou shalt not kill." 00:53:09.08\00:53:10.72 That commandment, and then why would God tell Moses, 00:53:10.72\00:53:14.32 "Thou shalt not kill," and then tell Moses 00:53:14.32\00:53:17.03 to execute and stone certain people 00:53:17.03\00:53:19.19 that had broken other commandments? 00:53:19.19\00:53:21.63 - The verse referring to Matthew 19:18, 00:53:22.70\00:53:24.80 which Jesus says, "Thou shalt not murder." 00:53:24.80\00:53:26.97 And He uses the word murder. 00:53:26.97\00:53:28.50 - Murder is defined as a taking of innocent life 00:53:28.50\00:53:33.11 and human life, in particular. 00:53:33.11\00:53:35.38 So I do think that, we've gotta be careful 00:53:35.38\00:53:39.71 not to think of thou shalt not kill 00:53:39.71\00:53:41.78 in the broad sense of killing anything. 00:53:41.78\00:53:44.59 It's really talking about taking of innocent human life. 00:53:44.59\00:53:47.89 If a person is defending their family 00:53:47.89\00:53:51.36 and some crazed murderer comes into their home, 00:53:51.36\00:53:54.20 and in the process of defending their family, they have 00:53:54.20\00:53:56.77 to kill the perpetrator, they are not ever tried 00:53:56.77\00:54:00.20 by any people as a killer. 00:54:00.20\00:54:02.80 'Cause they've not committed murder, 00:54:03.94\00:54:05.11 it's just self-defense. 00:54:05.11\00:54:06.44 - Or if somebody, you know, an accident occurs. 00:54:06.44\00:54:09.08 And accidentally, somebody gets killed, 00:54:09.08\00:54:11.78 and it's just an accident. 00:54:11.78\00:54:13.48 You don't hold that person accountable for murder. 00:54:14.85\00:54:16.79 Matter of fact, there's even the story in the Bible 00:54:16.79\00:54:18.49 and it gives the example, if you're swinging an ax 00:54:18.49\00:54:20.79 and the ax head comes off and kills somebody, you know, 00:54:20.79\00:54:24.46 you're not held liable for murder. 00:54:24.46\00:54:26.29 You go to a city of refuge and then they find 00:54:26.29\00:54:28.63 that it was an accident and you're free. 00:54:28.63\00:54:30.57 - Yeah, and even the laws today, laws about manslaughter, 00:54:30.57\00:54:33.37 it's talking about unintentional. 00:54:33.37\00:54:34.94 You've got premeditated murder, so forth. 00:54:34.94\00:54:37.24 So yeah, I think it's closer to say thou shalt not murder, 00:54:37.24\00:54:41.24 even though I know the King James 00:54:41.24\00:54:42.68 and some version say, "Thou shalt not kill." 00:54:42.68\00:54:44.95 I would respect that. 00:54:45.81\00:54:47.25 We do have our lesson we started out with saying 00:54:47.25\00:54:49.35 written in stone; talk some more about that law. 00:54:49.35\00:54:51.75 Now, Pastor Ross, for our friends that are listening 00:54:51.75\00:54:54.29 or watching right now, we sort of sign off in stages. 00:54:54.29\00:54:58.43 We wanna say goodbye to our friends 00:54:58.43\00:54:59.73 that are listening on satellite radio. 00:54:59.73\00:55:01.36 But the rest of you don't go anywhere 00:55:01.36\00:55:03.30 because just a moment, we're gonna come back. 00:55:03.30\00:55:04.93 We're gonna take some rapid fire Bible questions 00:55:04.93\00:55:07.90 that you have sent in via email. 00:55:07.90\00:55:09.90 God bless to the rest. 00:55:09.90\00:55:11.57 (inspirational music) 00:55:11.57\00:55:14.34 - [Narrator] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:14.34\00:55:16.78 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:16.78\00:55:20.45 "Bible Answers Live" is produced 00:55:20.45\00:55:22.38 by Amazing Facts International, a faith-based ministry 00:55:22.38\00:55:26.19 located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:26.19\00:55:28.86 - Hello friends, welcome back. 00:55:30.53\00:55:31.89 We have about two and a half minutes, Pastor Doug, 00:55:31.89\00:55:33.83 to answer some of the email questions 00:55:33.83\00:55:36.13 that have come in to the program. 00:55:36.13\00:55:37.70 If you'd like to send us an email question, 00:55:37.70\00:55:39.70 the email address is BALQuestions@AmazingFacts.org. 00:55:39.70\00:55:44.77 All right, question number one. 00:55:45.57\00:55:46.68 Brittany's asking what did Jesus mean 00:55:46.68\00:55:48.28 when He called the Pharisees a brood of vipers? 00:55:48.28\00:55:51.81 - Yeah, and I think that 00:55:51.81\00:55:53.95 even John the Baptist uses that term. 00:55:53.95\00:55:56.75 Well in the Bible, vipers are considered snakes. 00:55:56.75\00:56:00.32 They're considered synonymous in many places with the devil. 00:56:00.32\00:56:04.03 Where is it, Revelation chapter 12's at least one place 00:56:04.03\00:56:06.53 where it calls that old serpent, the dragon Satan. 00:56:06.53\00:56:10.80 And so it's calls him the devil, Satan, dragon, serpent. 00:56:10.80\00:56:15.80 And so when you say a brood of vipers, 00:56:15.80\00:56:18.37 He's basically saying you're a bunch 00:56:18.37\00:56:20.61 of demon-led individuals, which is, you know, 00:56:20.61\00:56:25.21 you think about a snake pit and they would get together 00:56:25.21\00:56:28.12 and they would connive and talk about how to, you know, 00:56:28.12\00:56:30.89 persecute God's prophets. 00:56:30.89\00:56:33.09 And so Jesus and they led a lot of people astray. 00:56:33.09\00:56:35.92 He said you rob widow's houses, so it was not a compliment. 00:56:35.92\00:56:39.49 - Okay, we have another question. 00:56:39.49\00:56:40.90 Jackie is asking, do we really have to pray 00:56:40.90\00:56:43.30 for those who are wicked? 00:56:43.30\00:56:44.67 - Well, you know, Jesus says love your enemies 00:56:44.67\00:56:46.67 and we should be thankful that while we were 00:56:46.67\00:56:49.77 yet sinners, Christ died for us. 00:56:49.77\00:56:51.67 So even in our lostness, in our wickedness, 00:56:51.67\00:56:55.41 wickedness would be sort of like intentional disobedience, 00:56:55.41\00:56:58.65 God is merciful to us. 00:56:59.68\00:57:01.72 And I think we know there are stories in the Bible 00:57:01.72\00:57:03.72 of people who are wicked. 00:57:03.72\00:57:05.09 I think of Manasseh was probably the best example, 00:57:05.09\00:57:08.19 you know, sacrifices children in the fire, 00:57:08.19\00:57:10.13 killed Isaiah, the prophet, wicked man. 00:57:10.13\00:57:13.13 He went through a dramatic conversion. 00:57:13.13\00:57:15.26 So yes, even wicked people can be reached 00:57:15.26\00:57:18.57 by the power of God. 00:57:18.57\00:57:19.87 - We also have the conversion 00:57:19.87\00:57:20.97 of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. 00:57:20.97\00:57:22.47 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah. 00:57:22.47\00:57:23.57 - All right, another question that we have. 00:57:23.57\00:57:24.94 Isabelle wants to know, how can she be bold for Jesus, 00:57:24.94\00:57:27.88 but in a subtle way because she's timid? 00:57:27.88\00:57:30.81 - Well, you can of course, be bold in your prayers. 00:57:30.81\00:57:33.62 And the Lord can make even 00:57:33.62\00:57:35.88 a timid person bold at the right time. 00:57:35.88\00:57:38.55 It talks about the righteous are as bold as a lion. 00:57:39.85\00:57:42.19 So I think, you know, as you just pray for opportunity 00:57:42.19\00:57:45.66 to speak up, you can be bold with the words 00:57:45.66\00:57:48.20 that you speak, and they don't have to be loud. 00:57:48.20\00:57:50.73 You can say something profound 00:57:50.73\00:57:52.77 and it'll get everyone's attention. 00:57:52.77\00:57:54.84 - Okay, well, Pastor Doug, we wanna remind our friends 00:57:54.84\00:57:57.74 who are listening, if you have a Bible question 00:57:57.74\00:58:00.24 and you'd like to submit it to the program, 00:58:00.24\00:58:01.84 just email BALQuestions@AmazingFacts.org 00:58:01.84\00:58:06.18 and we will try to answer as many questions as we can 00:58:06.18\00:58:08.98 before we run outta time. 00:58:08.98\00:58:10.12 And you hear music in the background, 00:58:10.12\00:58:11.72 so we want to thank you for joining us. 00:58:11.72\00:58:13.29 And next week, we look forward to meeting you 00:58:13.29\00:58:15.49 again for another program of "Bible Answers Live". 00:58:15.49\00:58:18.23 -
