(triumphant orchestral music) 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.20 - [Announcer] It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.20\00:00:05.80 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.80\00:00:09.87 and its words, sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.87\00:00:13.84 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.84\00:00:16.61 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.61\00:00:19.95 Welcome to Bible Answers Live, providing accurate 00:00:19.95\00:00:23.92 and practical answers to all your Bible questions. 00:00:23.92\00:00:27.56 This broadcast is a previously-recorded episode. 00:00:28.82\00:00:31.49 To receive any of the Bible resources mentioned 00:00:31.49\00:00:34.00 in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:34.00\00:00:38.97 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.87\00:00:44.17 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:45.64\00:00:48.31 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.31\00:00:50.35 - Hello, listening friends. 00:00:50.35\00:00:51.61 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.61\00:00:54.75 Jim Lewis and Jim Springer were identical twins 00:00:54.75\00:00:58.15 that were separated at four weeks of age 00:00:58.15\00:01:00.36 and then raised in different families. 00:01:00.36\00:01:02.79 After some searching in 1979, 00:01:02.79\00:01:05.46 the twins were finally reunited at the age of 39. 00:01:05.46\00:01:09.36 When they got to talking, they were astonished to discover 00:01:09.36\00:01:12.37 how many ways that they had lived identical lives. 00:01:12.37\00:01:15.80 For example, they both suffered from tension headaches, 00:01:15.80\00:01:19.07 they were prone to nail-biting, 00:01:19.07\00:01:20.94 they smoked Salem cigarettes, 00:01:20.94\00:01:22.88 they drove the same type of Chevrolet car, 00:01:22.88\00:01:25.25 and even vacationed at the same beach in Florida. 00:01:25.25\00:01:28.72 Both had similar jobs in security. 00:01:28.72\00:01:31.25 Jim Lewis was a security guard, 00:01:31.25\00:01:33.05 while Jim Springer had been a deputy sheriff. 00:01:33.05\00:01:35.72 Both married and divorced women named Linda. 00:01:35.72\00:01:38.89 They both remarried women named Betty, 00:01:38.89\00:01:41.56 and they both had a childhood dog named Toy. 00:01:41.56\00:01:44.57 They both had a proclivity for math and woodworking 00:01:44.57\00:01:47.17 but were terrible at spelling, 00:01:47.17\00:01:49.00 and they both named their sons James Alan, 00:01:49.00\00:01:52.51 though one spelled Alan a little differently. 00:01:52.51\00:01:55.04 That's so bizarre. 00:01:55.04\00:01:55.94 It almost sounds like 00:01:55.94\00:01:57.25 they were predestined to live a certain way. 00:01:57.25\00:02:00.18 - That's right, Pastor Doug. (Pastor Ross laughs) 00:02:00.18\00:02:01.52 It's odd when you hear about these stories of people 00:02:01.52\00:02:03.52 that just lived lives that were so similar to one another, 00:02:03.52\00:02:06.79 and you wonder, wow, was there somebody 00:02:06.79\00:02:08.89 coordinating events or putting this all together? 00:02:08.89\00:02:11.59 Now, of course, there's genetics connected with that 00:02:11.59\00:02:13.80 and certain personality traits. 00:02:13.80\00:02:15.96 But sometimes, people ask the question, 00:02:15.96\00:02:18.47 are there some predestinated to be saved, 00:02:18.47\00:02:21.80 and are there some predestinated to be lost? 00:02:21.80\00:02:25.17 Can we do anything about our eternal destiny? 00:02:25.17\00:02:28.11 - Yeah, you hear a story like this, and you might think, 00:02:28.11\00:02:29.91 well, we have no choice. 00:02:29.91\00:02:31.21 It's all controlled by our genes. 00:02:31.21\00:02:33.52 But this is one of those, it's a rare coincidence. 00:02:33.52\00:02:36.79 This is not always the case with twins that are separated. 00:02:36.79\00:02:39.45 Sometimes their lives are entirely different, 00:02:39.45\00:02:41.82 even though they're identical twins. 00:02:41.82\00:02:43.89 But there are people who think that our lives are all 00:02:43.89\00:02:47.50 mapped out by God, and we really don't have a choice. 00:02:47.50\00:02:50.70 But the Bible tells us that people's eternal destiny 00:02:50.70\00:02:54.20 will largely hinge on how they respond 00:02:54.20\00:02:57.84 to the sacrifice that Jesus has made. 00:02:57.84\00:03:00.24 A number of verses illustrate this, 00:03:00.24\00:03:01.61 but even if you go to one of the last verses in the Bible, 00:03:01.61\00:03:04.48 Revelation 22:17, it says, 00:03:04.48\00:03:07.42 and this is a great invitation that closes the book, 00:03:07.42\00:03:09.98 "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! 00:03:09.98\00:03:13.22 "Let him who hears say, Come! 00:03:13.22\00:03:16.06 "Let him who thirsts come, and whoever desires, 00:03:16.06\00:03:20.10 "let him come and take the water of life freely." 00:03:20.10\00:03:23.83 This makes it pretty clear that the invitation to be saved 00:03:23.83\00:03:27.44 is not only restricted for a few people, but it says, 00:03:27.44\00:03:30.07 whoever hears, whoever reads the words of this book. 00:03:30.07\00:03:32.81 I know there's a number of places where the Bible says, 00:03:34.18\00:03:36.14 "God is not willing that any should perish." 00:03:36.14\00:03:39.31 Well, though some are gonna perish, 00:03:39.31\00:03:40.52 that obviously is not His will. 00:03:40.52\00:03:42.52 That means not everything that happens 00:03:42.52\00:03:44.19 in this world is the will of God. 00:03:44.19\00:03:46.65 Some of our Muslim friends, whatever happens, they say, 00:03:46.65\00:03:48.82 "Oh, it must be the will of Allah." 00:03:48.82\00:03:51.29 But no, the sin and misery in this world is not God's will. 00:03:51.29\00:03:55.73 That's why in the Lord's Prayer we say, "Thy will be done." 00:03:55.73\00:04:00.14 Why would we pray for something 00:04:00.14\00:04:01.37 that's already gonna happen anyway? 00:04:01.37\00:04:03.57 So we're praying for God's will 00:04:03.57\00:04:05.27 because a lot of things that happen are not God's will. 00:04:05.27\00:04:08.54 Of course, Joshua made the statement that explained 00:04:09.91\00:04:12.95 we all have a choice. - That's right. 00:04:12.95\00:04:14.42 One of the key verses here, it's an appeal 00:04:14.42\00:04:17.22 to receive the Lord just before the children of Israel 00:04:17.22\00:04:20.39 would enter into the Promised Land. 00:04:20.39\00:04:21.79 Joshua said to the people, 00:04:21.79\00:04:23.12 "If it seems evil to you," this is Joshua 24:15, 00:04:23.12\00:04:26.56 "If it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, 00:04:26.56\00:04:28.73 "choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, 00:04:28.73\00:04:32.57 "whether the gods that your fathers served 00:04:32.57\00:04:34.34 "that were on the other side of the river, 00:04:34.34\00:04:36.24 "or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. 00:04:36.24\00:04:38.97 "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." 00:04:38.97\00:04:42.68 So there you see a choice. 00:04:42.68\00:04:43.75 We need to choose who we wish to serve. 00:04:43.75\00:04:46.15 And Pastor, there might be some confusion, 00:04:46.15\00:04:47.92 because you're reading Paul's letters, 00:04:47.92\00:04:49.88 sometimes he talks about God predestinating, 00:04:49.88\00:04:53.12 and people are wondering, is that referring to a person's 00:04:53.12\00:04:56.02 eternal destiny, but the confusion is there, 00:04:56.02\00:04:58.59 it is true that God predestinated the nation of 00:04:58.59\00:05:01.96 Israel to be the nation that would be the one 00:05:01.96\00:05:04.27 through whom the Messiah would come. 00:05:04.27\00:05:06.33 That was a choice God made; it didn't have anything 00:05:06.33\00:05:08.64 to do with Israelites being better than anyone else. 00:05:08.64\00:05:11.54 But that's not referring to individual choice 00:05:11.54\00:05:14.21 or individual destiny; it's referring to the nation. 00:05:14.21\00:05:16.71 God raises nations up, and God takes nations down. 00:05:16.71\00:05:20.62 Maybe in that sense, you can understand the predestination 00:05:20.62\00:05:23.72 of God, but individually, we have that freedom to choose. 00:05:23.72\00:05:27.46 - Right, some people think, 00:05:27.46\00:05:28.59 for instance, Judas, since prophecy said 00:05:28.59\00:05:30.23 Judas would betray Jesus, Judas had no choice. 00:05:30.23\00:05:33.29 No, God knew what was gonna happen, but ultimately, 00:05:33.29\00:05:35.63 it was Judas that made these series of choices that led 00:05:35.63\00:05:38.87 to his very bad choice, his decision to betray Jesus. 00:05:38.87\00:05:43.27 Now, we've got a free offer I think that helps explain this 00:05:43.27\00:05:46.11 with all the Scriptures. - We do. 00:05:46.11\00:05:47.68 It's a popular book. 00:05:47.68\00:05:48.74 If folks wanna learn more about the subject, 00:05:48.74\00:05:50.35 it's called Can a Saved Man Choose to be Lost? 00:05:50.35\00:05:53.18 That's our free gift to anyone who will call and ask. 00:05:53.18\00:05:56.48 All you need to do is just call the number 800-835-6747, 00:05:56.48\00:06:01.56 and you can ask for the book. 00:06:02.36\00:06:03.46 It's called Can a Saved Man Choose to be Lost? 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.13 Again, that's 800-835-6747, 00:06:05.13\00:06:09.13 and tell them you're listening to Bible Answers Live, 00:06:09.13\00:06:11.60 and you'd like the free gift. 00:06:11.60\00:06:12.70 It's called Can a Saved Man Choose to be Lost? 00:06:12.70\00:06:16.17 Another number that you might wanna write down is 00:06:16.17\00:06:18.51 our phone line here to the studio with your Bible question. 00:06:18.51\00:06:21.08 The number for that is 800-463-7297, 00:06:21.08\00:06:26.15 800-463-7297. 00:06:26.68\00:06:27.25 We've got some phone lines that are still open. 00:06:28.55\00:06:30.52 This is a good time for you 00:06:30.52\00:06:31.62 to pick up your phone and give us a call. 00:06:31.62\00:06:34.12 We also, Pastor Doug, wanna greet those 00:06:34.12\00:06:35.82 who are listening on Amazing Facts Television. 00:06:35.82\00:06:38.89 We also have folks who've tuned in on social media 00:06:38.89\00:06:41.63 on the Doug Batchelor Facebook page, 00:06:41.63\00:06:43.47 on the Amazing Facts Facebook page. 00:06:43.47\00:06:45.97 I believe you're also live 00:06:45.97\00:06:47.20 at the Amazing Facts YouTube channel. 00:06:47.20\00:06:49.44 So, many ways that you can participate, 00:06:49.44\00:06:51.57 and of course those who are listening 00:06:51.57\00:06:52.94 on land-based radio stations and also satellite radio. 00:06:52.94\00:06:56.34 So welcome to the program. 00:06:56.34\00:06:57.88 - Let's have a word of prayer. 00:07:06.89\00:07:08.22 Dear Father, once again, we are grateful for the opportunity 00:07:08.22\00:07:10.46 to be able to open up Your Word and study, 00:07:10.46\00:07:12.59 and Lord, we do recognize that this Bible, 00:07:12.59\00:07:14.96 this book that You have given us, is a powerful book 00:07:14.96\00:07:17.30 containing truth, and it's Your book, 00:07:17.30\00:07:19.87 so we ask for Your Spirit, the Holy Spirit, 00:07:19.87\00:07:21.94 to guide us as we study together. 00:07:21.94\00:07:23.97 Be with those who are listening, 00:07:23.97\00:07:25.04 watching, wherever they might be. 00:07:25.04\00:07:26.88 We ask this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:07:26.88\00:07:29.24 - Amen. 00:07:29.24\00:07:30.35 - Well, we are ready to go to the phone lines. 00:07:30.35\00:07:31.91 The first caller that we have is Sophia, 00:07:31.91\00:07:34.12 listening in Tennessee. 00:07:34.12\00:07:35.92 Sophia, welcome to the program. 00:07:35.92\00:07:37.59 - [Sophia] Thank you. 00:07:38.89\00:07:40.42 - Thank you! 00:07:40.42\00:07:41.26 And your question? 00:07:41.26\00:07:42.29 - Is the United States in the Book of Daniel, 00:07:43.43\00:07:47.13 and if so, where are the passages? 00:07:47.13\00:07:50.30 Thank you. 00:07:50.30\00:07:51.40 - All right, good question. 00:07:51.40\00:07:53.00 Now, you do find the United States mentioned 00:07:53.00\00:07:55.64 in the Book of Revelation 00:07:55.64\00:07:57.17 as the second beast you find in Revelation chapter 13. 00:07:57.17\00:08:01.34 But Pastor Ross, I guess the events 00:08:01.34\00:08:04.91 connected with the United States would be 00:08:04.91\00:08:07.25 following the last beast that you find in Daniel, 00:08:08.92\00:08:12.19 well, it would be following the iron and the clay. 00:08:12.19\00:08:15.69 It's not specifically mentioned. 00:08:15.69\00:08:17.16 It'd probably be following those 10 toes. 00:08:17.16\00:08:19.93 Maybe it's the toenails. 00:08:19.93\00:08:21.26 - That's right, just prior to the stone that comes 00:08:21.26\00:08:22.26 and disrupts the image. - That's right. 00:08:22.26\00:08:23.93 - It seems the focus of the Book of Daniel 00:08:23.93\00:08:26.30 deals more with kingdoms that of course from Daniel's time 00:08:26.30\00:08:29.57 lead you all the way up to the second coming of Christ. 00:08:29.57\00:08:32.01 But most of the kingdoms referred to has to do with 00:08:32.01\00:08:35.08 Europe or influencing the land of Israel, whereas you find 00:08:35.08\00:08:38.81 the expansion of that of course in the Book of Revelation. 00:08:38.81\00:08:41.12 Revelation 13 in particular, 00:08:41.12\00:08:42.85 there is a beast power that arises, the second beast, 00:08:42.85\00:08:46.92 and that is the United States in prophecy. 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.72 - By the time you get to the Book of Revelation, 00:08:49.72\00:08:51.89 the prophets seem to go into more detail. 00:08:51.89\00:08:54.46 In fact, it even happens, 00:08:54.46\00:08:56.03 and I know I've heard you say this many times, 00:08:56.03\00:08:58.23 that what's happening in the prophecies of the Bible 00:08:58.23\00:09:00.50 is it's stating the truth, and as it goes on, it expands, 00:09:00.50\00:09:04.84 and you're getting the same truth from different angles. 00:09:04.84\00:09:08.11 Daniel two, you've got those five major kingdoms, 00:09:08.11\00:09:10.78 being Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, 00:09:10.78\00:09:14.08 and then the divisions of the Roman Empire, 00:09:14.08\00:09:16.22 and you also get that, well, it's in Daniel seven, 00:09:16.22\00:09:18.49 it's in Daniel eight, it's in Daniel nine, 10, 11, 00:09:18.49\00:09:21.79 and each succeeding vision 00:09:21.79\00:09:24.46 seems to expand and give more detail. 00:09:24.46\00:09:27.23 - Now, we do have a magazine at Amazing Facts. 00:09:27.23\00:09:29.20 It's called the US in Bible Prophecy. 00:09:29.20\00:09:31.40 This is one of our most popular sharing magazines 00:09:31.40\00:09:34.20 that we have, and we will make that available 00:09:34.20\00:09:36.97 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:09:36.97\00:09:38.54 The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:09:38.54\00:09:43.04 You can ask for the magazine. 00:09:43.04\00:09:44.18 It's called the US in Bible Prophecy. 00:09:44.18\00:09:47.12 It's quite an in-depth study, Pastor Doug, but it looks 00:09:47.12\00:09:49.35 at these various prophecies, and it's really inspiring. 00:09:49.35\00:09:52.25 Read it for yourself, and then give it to a friend. 00:09:52.25\00:09:54.19 It's a very important topic. - Amen. 00:09:54.19\00:09:56.39 - All right, thank you for your call. 00:09:56.39\00:09:57.76 The next caller that we have is Dianna, listening in Texas. 00:09:57.76\00:10:01.33 Well, Dianna, welcome to the program. 00:10:01.33\00:10:03.23 - [Dianna] Thank you, pastors, good evening. 00:10:04.37\00:10:06.23 My question is, in the Book of Mark, when Jesus healed 00:10:06.23\00:10:10.71 the leper, He asked him not to tell anybody, 00:10:10.71\00:10:13.17 and He's done that a couple of times. 00:10:13.17\00:10:14.68 I just wanted to know why He would do that. 00:10:14.68\00:10:17.35 - Yeah, and it's funny, because in almost every case, 00:10:17.35\00:10:20.15 He said, "Don't tell anybody," and they did. 00:10:20.15\00:10:23.32 You know, if you've been blind or you've been a leper 00:10:23.32\00:10:25.42 and you've had all that misery and then all of a sudden, 00:10:25.42\00:10:27.52 you're healed, it is hard to keep the good news to yourself. 00:10:27.52\00:10:30.96 I think one reason Jesus did that is because 00:10:30.96\00:10:34.76 there were already enemies that were very jealous 00:10:34.76\00:10:37.43 and looking for some reason to obstruct His ministry. 00:10:37.43\00:10:41.50 He knew that when He did these especially powerful miracles, 00:10:43.07\00:10:47.74 that as word about that spread, 00:10:49.74\00:10:52.15 it just intensified the persecution and the scrutiny. 00:10:52.15\00:10:55.98 He wanted to help these people, 00:10:55.98\00:10:57.29 but He didn't want to see the work limited. 00:10:57.29\00:10:59.55 He said, "Now, don't mention that." 00:10:59.55\00:11:00.76 It also tells you about the humility of Christ, 00:11:00.76\00:11:03.32 and it also reminds us 00:11:03.32\00:11:04.46 that it's hard to keep good news to yourself. 00:11:04.46\00:11:07.13 So I would think that would be the main reason. 00:11:07.13\00:11:10.27 He was just trying to prevent too much resistance 00:11:10.27\00:11:14.20 so early in His ministry. 00:11:14.20\00:11:15.87 - Although the time does come 00:11:15.87\00:11:16.97 where Jesus talks to His disciples and He says, 00:11:16.97\00:11:19.01 "Then what you hear in secret, you blaze from the rooftops." 00:11:19.01\00:11:22.71 So it was clear that there was gonna be a time 00:11:22.71\00:11:24.71 when everything that Jesus did was to be loudly proclaimed. 00:11:24.71\00:11:27.82 - And then by the time he healed Lazarus, 00:11:27.82\00:11:29.62 right by Jerusalem, it was front-page news. 00:11:29.62\00:11:32.25 - Absolutely, and Christ didn't hide that in any way. 00:11:32.25\00:11:35.62 Well, thanks for your call, Dianna. 00:11:35.62\00:11:36.99 We've got Angela, listening from Illinois. 00:11:36.99\00:11:39.59 Angela, welcome to the program. 00:11:39.59\00:11:41.20 - [Angela] Hi, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:11:42.43\00:11:45.07 I wanted to understand, in chapter 11 of Daniel, 00:11:45.07\00:11:49.80 it talks about the kings of the north and south. 00:11:51.31\00:11:54.94 So can you just tell me, 00:11:54.94\00:11:56.38 who is the king of the north and south? 00:11:56.38\00:11:58.61 - Well, now, I'll let you know, I'll do my best. 00:11:58.61\00:12:01.85 But if you ask 10 different pastors 00:12:01.85\00:12:04.32 what they believe about Daniel 10 and 11 00:12:04.32\00:12:08.19 and even into 12, you'll get 12 different answers. 00:12:08.19\00:12:11.33 It's probably the most complex 00:12:14.56\00:12:16.80 and detailed prophecy in the Bible. 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.70 I can't think of one that, maybe some in Ezekiel 00:12:18.70\00:12:21.57 or Zechariah, but this is pretty complex. 00:12:21.57\00:12:23.54 My belief is, and I think Pastor Ross would agree with me, 00:12:23.54\00:12:26.07 the king of the north would be what we call the papacy, 00:12:26.07\00:12:29.91 'cause the papacy as a power, a religious power, 00:12:31.25\00:12:35.35 is outlined in both Revelation 17 during the same 00:12:35.35\00:12:39.65 time period and the other chapters of Daniel. 00:12:39.65\00:12:43.02 The king of the south 00:12:43.83\00:12:45.23 is where you're gonna find some difference of belief. 00:12:45.23\00:12:47.96 Some believe that it's atheism. 00:12:47.96\00:12:51.27 Some believe it's the king of Turkey. 00:12:51.27\00:12:53.87 Some believe it's Islam. 00:12:53.87\00:12:56.10 Now, I am probably more inclined to believe 00:12:56.10\00:12:58.21 that the king of the south is Islam, 00:12:58.21\00:13:00.24 and I could be wrong, but my reason for that is, 00:13:00.24\00:13:03.65 you see these two great powers that are at war, 00:13:03.65\00:13:07.18 and the two biggest religions 00:13:07.18\00:13:08.28 in the world today are Christianity and Islam. 00:13:08.28\00:13:10.69 I can just see where that would be the catalyst 00:13:12.02\00:13:14.42 for a great battle that would bring about the final events. 00:13:14.42\00:13:17.99 So, yep, gotta keep studying. 00:13:17.99\00:13:20.93 Like I said, I'm not dogmatic about that. 00:13:20.93\00:13:22.83 - Mmhmm, I think you're right, Pastor Doug. 00:13:22.83\00:13:25.53 You know, if you look at the difference 00:13:25.53\00:13:26.87 between the king of the north and the king of the south, 00:13:26.87\00:13:28.57 there is significance geographically. 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.64 So you have Rome, which of course, you have pagan Rome, 00:13:30.64\00:13:33.71 which gives way to papal Rome, 'cause papal Rome 00:13:33.71\00:13:36.51 is still very much active and powerful, even today, 00:13:36.51\00:13:39.61 and then there is a power or an entity 00:13:39.61\00:13:42.22 standing in opposition to papal Rome 00:13:42.22\00:13:44.65 preventing papal Rome from having worldwide influence. 00:13:44.65\00:13:48.39 Well, the Muslim religions does seem to fit into that. 00:13:48.39\00:13:52.73 So I think there's something there. 00:13:52.73\00:13:54.60 But also, atheism could play. 00:13:54.60\00:13:56.33 There's a number of interesting things. 00:13:56.33\00:13:58.50 Some of what we read 00:13:58.50\00:13:59.77 in Daniel chapter 11 is yet in the future. 00:13:59.77\00:14:02.00 So when these events begin to take place, 00:14:02.00\00:14:04.07 I think it'll make a lot clearer understanding. 00:14:04.07\00:14:06.91 A lot of chapter 11 is historic 00:14:06.91\00:14:08.98 and has already been fulfilled, 00:14:08.98\00:14:10.08 but when you get down to the last few verses, 00:14:10.08\00:14:12.21 starting around 43, I believe, somewhere in there, 00:14:12.21\00:14:14.78 it's still referring to events in the future. 00:14:14.78\00:14:16.95 So we'll have to see what happens. 00:14:16.95\00:14:19.42 - That's right, Jesus said, 00:14:19.42\00:14:20.82 "When these things come to pass, then you will know." 00:14:20.82\00:14:24.19 So someone once said, 00:14:24.19\00:14:25.56 "A prophecy is best understood looking back," so we'll go, 00:14:25.56\00:14:30.33 "Oh, yeah, God was right on!" (Pastor Doug laughs) 00:14:31.57\00:14:33.50 - All right, thanks for your call, Angela. 00:14:33.50\00:14:34.84 We've got Aaron listening from New York. 00:14:34.84\00:14:37.07 Aaron, welcome to the program. 00:14:37.07\00:14:39.17 - [Aaron] Hi, pastors. 00:14:39.17\00:14:40.41 - Hi, thanks for calling! 00:14:40.41\00:14:42.44 - [Aaron] My question is in Matthew chapter four verse one, 00:14:42.44\00:14:46.65 it says that Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit 00:14:46.65\00:14:49.35 into the wilderness to fast and be tempted by the devil. 00:14:49.35\00:14:52.62 But in the model prayer in Matthew chapter six, 00:14:53.76\00:14:56.89 Jesus mentioned in verse 13, "Lead us not into temptation." 00:14:56.89\00:15:01.93 What does He mean by that? 00:15:03.43\00:15:05.10 - Yeah, when you say the Lord's Prayer in that verse, 00:15:05.10\00:15:09.70 as we commonly say in English, 00:15:09.70\00:15:11.37 "lead us not into temptation," it almost creates 00:15:11.37\00:15:13.71 a word picture that God is wanting to put a leash 00:15:13.71\00:15:16.91 around our necks and walk us off into temptation, 00:15:16.91\00:15:19.11 and we're begging Him not to. 00:15:19.11\00:15:21.02 But then you read in James, "God tempts no man." 00:15:21.02\00:15:23.85 God would never deliberately try to entice us to evil. 00:15:25.22\00:15:28.22 God is not setting up a sting operation through entrapment. 00:15:28.22\00:15:31.49 Sometimes, if we drive the Lord away, 00:15:32.56\00:15:34.60 we'll be left to our own devices, 00:15:34.60\00:15:35.96 and we will be subject to the devil's temptations, 00:15:35.96\00:15:39.63 but really, the way the Lord's Prayer 00:15:39.63\00:15:41.90 would probably be more accurately stated is, 00:15:41.90\00:15:44.14 "lead us away from our natural tendency to evil." 00:15:44.14\00:15:49.21 Now, when you read where it tells 00:15:50.28\00:15:51.65 about the temptation of Christ in the wilderness, 00:15:51.65\00:15:52.98 He was led of the Spirit, well, when Jesus was baptized, 00:15:52.98\00:15:56.42 He was filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:15:56.42\00:15:57.69 The Bible says He was anointed with the Holy Spirit. 00:15:57.69\00:16:00.36 That's why He's called the Christ or the anointed. 00:16:00.36\00:16:02.86 He went into the wilderness to pray about His mission. 00:16:04.23\00:16:06.06 So He's led by the Spirit into the wilderness. 00:16:06.06\00:16:09.46 Well, while He's there, He is severely tempted 00:16:09.46\00:16:12.33 of the devil not to go through with His mission. 00:16:12.33\00:16:14.90 But the Spirit was not saying, 00:16:14.90\00:16:16.64 "Okay, let's go get You tempted, if We can." 00:16:16.64\00:16:18.97 The Spirit was really leading Him into the wilderness 00:16:18.97\00:16:20.91 to pray about His mission. 00:16:20.91\00:16:22.74 There the devil tempted Him, 00:16:22.74\00:16:24.88 and He of course resisted and overcame the devil. 00:16:24.88\00:16:27.72 So God allowed that, no doubt, 00:16:27.72\00:16:29.92 but it wasn't though the Spirit was tempting Him. 00:16:29.92\00:16:33.36 God would never tempt with evil. 00:16:33.36\00:16:35.06 - You know, we've got a book, Pastor Doug, 00:16:36.16\00:16:37.19 called Tips for Resisting Temptation. 00:16:37.19\00:16:39.09 It's got a number of good Bible scripture there, 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.26 and we'll be happy to send this 00:16:42.26\00:16:43.26 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:16:43.26\00:16:44.77 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:16:44.77\00:16:48.14 That is our resources phone line. 00:16:48.14\00:16:50.01 You can ask for the book. 00:16:50.01\00:16:51.11 It's called Tips for Resisting Temptation. 00:16:51.11\00:16:53.91 Now, it's not a sin to be tempted, 00:16:53.91\00:16:55.54 and the Bible makes that clear, 00:16:55.54\00:16:57.28 but when temptation comes, how do we overcome? 00:16:57.28\00:17:00.25 The Bible calls us to be overcomers. 00:17:00.25\00:17:02.25 We can be overcomers, and there's some wonderful 00:17:02.25\00:17:04.72 promises in the Bible that we can claim. 00:17:04.72\00:17:06.69 So call and ask for that book. 00:17:06.69\00:17:08.16 You will be blessed. 00:17:08.16\00:17:09.82 Next caller that we have is, 00:17:09.82\00:17:11.36 let's see, we've got Doug listening in Colorado. 00:17:11.36\00:17:13.43 Doug, welcome to the program. 00:17:13.43\00:17:14.93 - [Doug] Well, good evening, pastors. 00:17:16.16\00:17:18.20 - Evening. 00:17:18.20\00:17:19.53 - [Doug] My question might seem a little unusual. 00:17:19.53\00:17:21.47 There is a country song 00:17:21.47\00:17:24.17 that speaks of the day that Christ was born on earth, 00:17:24.17\00:17:28.84 and it talks about the angels crying, 00:17:28.84\00:17:31.18 because they knew what was before Him. 00:17:31.18\00:17:36.25 Is there any biblical evidence to that? 00:17:37.65\00:17:40.39 I know the only thing I've read in the Bible 00:17:40.39\00:17:42.72 that I can think of about angels' emotions were sorrowful, 00:17:42.72\00:17:47.36 but is there anything to that? 00:17:47.36\00:17:49.43 - You know, it actually tells us that when Jesus was born, 00:17:50.80\00:17:53.60 that the angels met the shepherds and said, 00:17:53.60\00:17:55.87 "Rejoice, we've got good news!" 00:17:55.87\00:18:00.21 The angels were singing, 00:18:00.21\00:18:02.01 and they said, "Peace on earth, joy!" 00:18:02.01\00:18:04.81 So angels definitely have emotions. 00:18:04.81\00:18:07.78 I believe angels are grieved when we sin. 00:18:07.78\00:18:10.35 I'm sure angels were crying when Jesus was on the cross, 00:18:10.35\00:18:13.42 and I might be missing something, Pastor Ross, 00:18:13.42\00:18:15.32 but I don't think there's any verse 00:18:15.32\00:18:16.42 that says angels were crying at His birth. 00:18:16.42\00:18:18.83 Actually, it sounds like it was the opposite. 00:18:18.83\00:18:20.23 - It was. - They were rejoicing, 00:18:20.23\00:18:21.03 "Good will to men!" 00:18:21.03\00:18:22.53 (Pastor Ross laughs) 00:18:22.53\00:18:23.87 - Seems like there was great joy, because it was 00:18:23.87\00:18:25.23 through the birth of Christ that salvation would come. 00:18:25.23\00:18:27.57 So I don't know if the angels fully understood 00:18:27.57\00:18:30.57 everything that was gonna happen. 00:18:30.57\00:18:31.97 I mean, I'm sure they understood 00:18:31.97\00:18:33.58 that Christ's mission would involve sacrifice and suffering. 00:18:33.58\00:18:36.91 But they like us witnessed this great plan of redemption 00:18:36.91\00:18:40.65 play out for the salvation of mankind. 00:18:40.65\00:18:42.88 I'm sure they would have willingly come down to rescue 00:18:44.49\00:18:48.46 Jesus from the cross, but they knew it was not part of God's 00:18:48.46\00:18:51.89 plan. - Well, I even think for the angels, the idea 00:18:51.89\00:18:53.93 of the incarnation, how God the Son could become a human, 00:18:53.93\00:18:57.47 was both mysterious and a wondrous thing for them. 00:18:57.47\00:19:00.84 They beheld that and thought, "Wow, what condescension, 00:19:00.84\00:19:04.11 "the humiliation of Jesus, 00:19:04.11\00:19:05.74 "going from God to being a creature." 00:19:05.74\00:19:07.68 I think that left them in marvel at His love. 00:19:08.81\00:19:13.11 "Boy, this is good news for man." 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.25 So they couldn't wait to announce that their King had 00:19:15.25\00:19:19.35 come. - All right, next caller that we have is Michael, 00:19:19.35\00:19:20.92 listening in California. 00:19:20.92\00:19:22.56 Michael, welcome to the program! 00:19:22.56\00:19:24.23 - [Michael] Why did Nehemiah build the wall of Jerusalem? 00:19:25.93\00:19:30.97 - Yeah, well, because during the time when the Babylonians, 00:19:35.64\00:19:40.54 they were enemies of Israel, they had conquered Israel, 00:19:40.54\00:19:44.15 and they destroyed the wall. 00:19:44.15\00:19:45.51 So after the Babylonian kingdom fell, 00:19:45.51\00:19:48.75 the Persian king let the Jews go back to Jerusalem, 00:19:48.75\00:19:51.79 but the city walls were broken down, 00:19:51.79\00:19:53.29 and they had no protection from their enemies. 00:19:53.29\00:19:55.36 These cities, they needed walls 00:19:55.36\00:19:57.23 so the citizens could go in and be fortified 00:19:57.23\00:20:00.96 and protected against the enemies if there was a war. 00:20:00.96\00:20:04.10 They had no protection, and of course the temple was there. 00:20:04.10\00:20:06.84 All their leadership was there. 00:20:06.84\00:20:08.84 The capital needed security, 00:20:08.84\00:20:10.47 and they needed to build up the walls. 00:20:10.47\00:20:12.97 - And there was a prophetic significance 00:20:12.97\00:20:15.04 to them building the wall, because according to Daniel, 00:20:15.04\00:20:17.71 there was a time period that would begin. 00:20:17.71\00:20:19.75 The prophetic time period begins with the restoration 00:20:19.75\00:20:22.48 and rebuilding not only of the temple, 00:20:22.48\00:20:24.59 but of the city of Jerusalem. 00:20:24.59\00:20:26.09 - The walls, yeah. - Which required the walls. 00:20:26.09\00:20:28.39 That was 457 B.C., a very significant date 00:20:28.39\00:20:31.16 in that time prophecy. - That's right, good point. 00:20:31.16\00:20:33.50 Thank you, Michael! 00:20:33.50\00:20:34.93 Hope that helps, appreciate your question. 00:20:34.93\00:20:36.50 - We've got Danny listening in Arizona. 00:20:36.50\00:20:38.63 Danny, welcome to the program! 00:20:38.63\00:20:40.10 - [Danny] Hey, how you doing, pastors? 00:20:41.64\00:20:43.47 - Doing great. 00:20:43.47\00:20:44.27 - [Danny] Awesome, awesome. 00:20:45.31\00:20:46.57 Well, my question comes from Colossians 2:16. 00:20:46.57\00:20:50.15 So a friend of mine came to me and said, 00:20:50.15\00:20:51.48 "Hey, so guess what? 00:20:51.48\00:20:53.05 "When I read this verse," he said that the Sabbath 00:20:53.05\00:20:57.95 no longer applies in the New Testament. 00:20:57.95\00:21:01.36 So I'm like, what, that doesn't make sense. 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.16 - Well, first of all, 00:21:04.16\00:21:05.19 I don't know what version you're reading, 00:21:05.19\00:21:06.56 but if you look at in the King James or the New King James, 00:21:06.56\00:21:08.86 most versions, it says, "Let no one judge you in food 00:21:08.86\00:21:11.67 "or drink or regard to festival or new moon or sabbaths." 00:21:11.67\00:21:16.10 Now, the seventh day of the week sabbath 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.44 is completely unique and different from the Jewish 00:21:18.44\00:21:21.91 annual Sabbaths that came during the Exodus. 00:21:21.91\00:21:25.85 They were connected with the temple and its services. 00:21:25.85\00:21:28.42 The sabbath at the end of every week 00:21:28.42\00:21:31.02 is a day of rest for mankind. 00:21:31.02\00:21:33.46 That's why Jesus said the sabbath 00:21:33.46\00:21:34.72 was made for man, not for Jews. 00:21:34.72\00:21:37.23 That happened before Adam and Eve ever sinned, 00:21:37.23\00:21:40.36 God made the sabbath. 00:21:40.36\00:21:41.36 It was part of His perfect plan. 00:21:41.36\00:21:43.16 When Paul is talking here, 00:21:43.16\00:21:44.70 he's talking about these ceremonial Sabbaths. 00:21:44.70\00:21:46.67 They were annual feasts, 00:21:46.67\00:21:48.50 and there were other days they called sabbaths 00:21:48.50\00:21:50.77 that had nothing to do with the weekly day of rest. 00:21:50.77\00:21:53.74 So Paul is addressing the ceremonial laws 00:21:53.74\00:21:56.61 that were nailed to the cross. 00:21:56.61\00:21:58.28 It has nothing to do with blotting out 00:21:58.28\00:22:00.25 one of the Ten Commandments. 00:22:00.25\00:22:01.58 And by the way, of all the Ten Commandments, 00:22:01.58\00:22:04.19 why would God take the one commandment 00:22:04.19\00:22:06.82 that begins with the word "remember" and say, 00:22:06.82\00:22:08.96 "Now that's the only one you're supposed to forget"? 00:22:08.96\00:22:11.73 That wouldn't make any sense, and of course 00:22:11.73\00:22:13.60 people still need a weekly day of gathering and worship, 00:22:13.60\00:22:17.33 and this is what the sabbath was all about. 00:22:17.33\00:22:19.50 So yeah, Colossians two, talking about annual Sabbaths. 00:22:19.50\00:22:22.94 That's why it's plural there in the original Greek. 00:22:22.94\00:22:25.74 - I think the very next verse 00:22:25.74\00:22:27.28 helps to explain that a little bit. 00:22:27.28\00:22:28.61 It says, "Which are a shadow of things to come." 00:22:28.61\00:22:31.45 So of course if you look at the festivals, 00:22:31.45\00:22:33.31 you look at the new moon or the monthly services 00:22:33.31\00:22:35.88 or programs, the ceremonial Sabbath, it was always 00:22:35.88\00:22:38.82 pointing forward to Christ, to the plan of redemption, 00:22:38.82\00:22:41.36 whereas the seventh-day sabbath points back to creation. 00:22:41.36\00:22:44.63 So that verse helps to explain. 00:22:44.63\00:22:46.53 - Yeah, they were shadows, the ceremonial Sabbaths. 00:22:46.53\00:22:49.46 Hope that helps. 00:22:49.46\00:22:51.00 Now, we have a book called Feast Days and Sabbaths. 00:22:51.00\00:22:52.20 - Yes, that's right. 00:22:52.20\00:22:53.70 - And we're be happy to share with a free copy of that. 00:22:53.70\00:22:55.64 - To receive that, just call the 800-835-6747, 00:22:55.64\00:22:59.44 and you can ask for the book Feast Days and Sabbaths. 00:22:59.44\00:23:02.18 We'll be happy to send that to anyone 00:23:02.18\00:23:03.58 who calls and asks, 800-835-6747. 00:23:03.58\00:23:08.35 Next caller that we have is David, listening in California. 00:23:08.35\00:23:11.25 David, welcome to the program. 00:23:11.25\00:23:12.82 - [David] Yeah, thank you, Pastor Doug and Ross. 00:23:14.16\00:23:16.42 My question is about tithing, a little different spin here, 00:23:16.42\00:23:21.33 about giving tithes to churches that have the sabbath 00:23:21.33\00:23:26.40 on Sunday, believe in, you die, you go to heaven. 00:23:27.74\00:23:31.97 The pandemic had a lot of churches and states come 00:23:33.48\00:23:35.81 together. I just can't see supporting the church when so 00:23:35.81\00:23:38.98 many of 'em are teaching different things on the Bible 00:23:38.98\00:23:41.25 that I don't think are correct. 00:23:41.25\00:23:42.75 - Yeah, well, you know, I would say first and foremost, 00:23:42.75\00:23:47.42 that when it comes to tithe, if you're attending a church, 00:23:47.42\00:23:52.23 then you would want to support that church 00:23:52.23\00:23:55.00 from which you are drawing benefit. 00:23:55.00\00:23:57.03 God outlines a plan in the scriptures, 00:23:59.50\00:24:01.50 and by the way, we'll send you a study guide 00:24:01.50\00:24:04.04 that has a number of scriptures on tithing. 00:24:04.04\00:24:06.11 Tithing is a biblical principle, 00:24:06.11\00:24:07.51 not just for the Old Testament. 00:24:07.51\00:24:09.18 Tithing predated the time of Moses. 00:24:09.18\00:24:11.58 Talk about Jacob paying tithe, 00:24:11.58\00:24:13.45 and Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek. 00:24:13.45\00:24:15.82 It's the only plan that God has 00:24:17.62\00:24:19.12 in the Bible for the ongoing support of ministry. 00:24:19.12\00:24:22.42 You do need to make sure you're belonging 00:24:23.53\00:24:25.43 to a Bible-based church and/or denomination, 00:24:25.43\00:24:29.93 so that when you're supporting it whether your presence, 00:24:29.93\00:24:32.37 whether your influence, whether your gifts, 00:24:32.37\00:24:34.54 you wanna be supporting the proclamation of truth. 00:24:34.54\00:24:37.87 So that's an important principle. 00:24:38.87\00:24:40.58 But yeah, we'll be happy to send that to you 00:24:40.58\00:24:42.48 or anyone that has questions 00:24:42.48\00:24:43.88 on what does the Bible say about tithe and offerings 00:24:43.88\00:24:46.95 and how does a New Testament Christian respond to that? 00:24:46.95\00:24:50.59 - The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:24:50.59\00:24:54.12 You can ask for the Amazing Facts Study Guide. 00:24:54.12\00:24:56.09 It's called In God We Trust. 00:24:56.09\00:24:58.53 We'll be happy to send you that lesson on, 00:24:58.53\00:25:00.56 what does the Bible have to say about money, 00:25:00.56\00:25:02.70 and how are we to use our money? 00:25:02.70\00:25:04.80 Again, it's 800-835-6747. 00:25:04.80\00:25:08.00 Ask for the study guide In God We Trust. 00:25:08.00\00:25:10.57 - Also, we have the best half of the program still coming. 00:25:10.57\00:25:13.41 If you wanna call in with your Bible questions, 00:25:13.41\00:25:16.11 simply call 800-GOD-SAYS, that's 800-463-7297, 00:25:16.11\00:25:20.28 and you can not only listen on the radio, 00:25:22.65\00:25:24.62 but we are streaming on the internet. 00:25:24.62\00:25:26.99 These programs are going out on the Amazing Facts 00:25:26.99\00:25:29.92 Facebook page, the Doug Batchelor Facebook page, 00:25:29.92\00:25:33.06 the YouTube page, and Amazing Facts Television, 00:25:33.06\00:25:36.33 and we've got some announcements we'll share with you soon 00:25:36.33\00:25:39.07 about how the Amazing Facts Bible Answers Live program 00:25:39.07\00:25:42.80 is gonna be going forth onto some other 00:25:42.80\00:25:44.57 major networks we're very excited about. 00:25:44.57\00:25:46.91 But we're just taking a break right here. 00:25:46.91\00:25:49.18 Gonna get a drink of water, 00:25:49.18\00:25:50.51 come back to answer more of your Bible questions, 00:25:50.51\00:25:52.65 so don't go anywhere. 00:25:52.65\00:25:54.15 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:25:54.15\00:25:57.22 - [Announcer] Stay tuned. 00:25:57.22\00:25:58.32 Bible Answers Live will return shortly. 00:25:58.32\00:26:00.96 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:26:00.96\00:26:04.49 - [Announcer] Have you ever skipped a meal? 00:30:48.71\00:30:51.25 - Well, most of what Job's friends said 00:30:52.45\00:30:54.88 was absolutely true in a general sense. 00:30:54.88\00:30:57.49 They were talking about the ways that God judges the wicked 00:30:57.49\00:31:02.06 and how it's so much better to be righteous, 00:31:02.06\00:31:04.76 but they were wrong about Job. 00:31:04.76\00:31:06.39 Job's particular sufferings were a unique experience. 00:31:06.39\00:31:10.03 Sometimes, God sends the rain on the just and the unjust. 00:31:10.03\00:31:13.60 In other words, good and bad people experience trials. 00:31:13.60\00:31:17.54 Bad people sometimes experience blessings. 00:31:17.54\00:31:19.77 This is what Job is saying in his response, is that 00:31:19.77\00:31:23.58 he's seen wicked people look like they're prospering, 00:31:23.58\00:31:26.58 and he's seen righteous people look like they're suffering. 00:31:26.58\00:31:28.92 His friends are saying God blesses the righteous, 00:31:28.92\00:31:32.12 and He punishes the wicked. 00:31:32.12\00:31:34.02 This is sort of the dialog that goes on through the book. 00:31:34.02\00:31:36.22 So what Job's friends said was wrong 00:31:36.22\00:31:39.03 was accusing Job of guilt. 00:31:39.03\00:31:42.46 They are saying, "Job, no way would anyone 00:31:42.46\00:31:44.60 "go through all of the mishap that you've experienced 00:31:44.60\00:31:47.10 "unless he had done something to provoke God." 00:31:47.10\00:31:50.04 Job said, "No, I've been faithful." 00:31:50.04\00:31:53.07 And in the end, as God says, "Your friends have not spoken 00:31:53.07\00:31:57.05 what was right," they were sort of pre-judging Job. 00:31:57.05\00:32:00.28 And Job's like a type of Christ. 00:32:00.28\00:32:02.25 Jesus went through all this suffering, 00:32:02.25\00:32:03.85 not because of His sin, but for our sake. 00:32:03.85\00:32:05.99 - And if you were to judge Christ just based on suffering, 00:32:07.29\00:32:09.29 you'd say, he must be a great sinner, 00:32:09.29\00:32:10.76 because look at all the terrible things that happened. 00:32:10.76\00:32:12.83 He was nailed to the cross and deserted by His disciples. 00:32:12.83\00:32:15.93 - They even said that to Him while He was on the cross. 00:32:15.93\00:32:18.73 They said, "If God's with you, then why is this happening?" 00:32:18.73\00:32:21.74 - All right, good question, Philip, thank you. 00:32:22.97\00:32:24.34 Joel is listening in North Carolina. 00:32:24.34\00:32:26.01 Joel, welcome to the program. 00:32:26.01\00:32:27.51 - [Joel] Hi, pastors. 00:32:29.01\00:32:30.75 - Hi, thanks for calling. 00:32:30.75\00:32:32.08 - [Joel] I have a question about the remnant. 00:32:33.35\00:32:35.55 I was wondering, is the remnant 00:32:35.55\00:32:38.02 that Jesus is coming back for, it's people. 00:32:38.02\00:32:42.22 It's not a denomination, right? 00:32:42.22\00:32:45.16 - Correct. 00:32:45.16\00:32:46.06 Now, it does, but lemme clarify 00:32:47.03\00:32:49.86 just so that we don't misunderstand. 00:32:49.86\00:32:52.43 In the Old Testament, Joel, would you agree that God had 00:32:52.43\00:32:56.84 a particular people, a nation He was working through, 00:32:56.84\00:33:00.44 and namely, that would be Israel. 00:33:00.44\00:33:03.31 Does that make sense? 00:33:03.31\00:33:04.45 But not every Israelite was saved, 00:33:05.48\00:33:08.72 and not every Gentile was lost. 00:33:08.72\00:33:11.32 You still with me? 00:33:11.32\00:33:12.29 - [Joel] Yeah. 00:33:13.56\00:33:14.39 - So in the last days, 00:33:14.39\00:33:15.52 is God working through a particular movement? 00:33:15.52\00:33:18.16 Yes. 00:33:18.16\00:33:19.19 Does that mean everybody 00:33:19.19\00:33:20.26 that is a member of that movement is saved? 00:33:20.26\00:33:22.53 No. 00:33:22.53\00:33:23.80 And does that mean everybody who is not is lost? 00:33:23.80\00:33:26.07 No. 00:33:26.07\00:33:26.97 The Lord has His people, and that's why Jesus said 00:33:28.34\00:33:31.14 many will come from the east and the west and sit down 00:33:31.14\00:33:33.51 in the kingdom with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 00:33:33.51\00:33:35.91 But God does work through nations. 00:33:35.91\00:33:38.51 I think God especially rose up the United States 00:33:38.51\00:33:41.32 to be sort of a beachhead 00:33:41.32\00:33:42.58 for great international missions when it was established. 00:33:42.58\00:33:47.66 That doesn't mean every American is a Christian 00:33:47.66\00:33:49.39 or every American is saved, 00:33:49.39\00:33:50.46 but God certainly worked through the nation, 00:33:50.46\00:33:52.99 just as God raised up Israel for a particular purpose. 00:33:52.99\00:33:58.03 They were to be, even Jesus said, 00:33:59.00\00:33:59.93 "Salvation is of the Jews." 00:33:59.93\00:34:02.20 That didn't mean every Jew was saved. 00:34:02.20\00:34:04.11 Likewise, Paul says, 00:34:05.21\00:34:06.51 "To Israel were committed the oracles of God." 00:34:06.51\00:34:09.38 So we do have a book actually that talks, do we have a book 00:34:09.38\00:34:11.91 that talks about the remnant per se, Pastor Ross? 00:34:11.91\00:34:13.88 - Well, we've got one called The Bride of Christ. 00:34:13.88\00:34:15.48 - Yeah, there you go. 00:34:15.48\00:34:16.85 - That talks about how God is working through his people, 00:34:16.85\00:34:18.32 and the verse for that, Pastor Doug, 00:34:18.32\00:34:19.99 Revelation chapter 12 verse 17. 00:34:19.99\00:34:22.09 It says, "And the dragon," Satan, 00:34:22.09\00:34:23.46 "was enraged with the woman," the church, 00:34:23.46\00:34:25.83 "and he went to make war with the remnant," 00:34:25.83\00:34:27.96 or the rest of offspring, "those who keep 00:34:27.96\00:34:30.33 "the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus." 00:34:30.33\00:34:33.00 So here you have God's people in the last days. 00:34:33.00\00:34:35.30 They keep His commandments, they have the testimony 00:34:35.30\00:34:37.34 of Jesus, and the dragon, Satan, is enraged with them. 00:34:37.34\00:34:41.71 Well, the study guide The Bride of Christ 00:34:41.71\00:34:43.41 has a lot more information about Revelation, 00:34:43.41\00:34:45.81 about God's people in the last days. 00:34:45.81\00:34:47.78 If you'd like to receive that, just call and ask. 00:34:48.92\00:34:50.85 The number to call is 800-835-6747, 00:34:50.85\00:34:54.69 and you can ask for the study guide. 00:34:54.69\00:34:56.06 It's called The Bride of Christ, and we'll be happy 00:34:56.06\00:34:58.86 to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:34:58.86\00:35:01.00 - All right, who's next, then? 00:35:01.80\00:35:03.90 - We've got Ryan, and Ryan is listening in Tennessee. 00:35:03.90\00:35:06.50 Ryan, welcome to the program. 00:35:06.50\00:35:08.04 - [Ryan] Hey, good evening. 00:35:08.94\00:35:10.34 Hi, I was putting my seven-year-old daughter to bed 00:35:10.34\00:35:12.17 tonight and she reminded me about the show this evening, 00:35:12.17\00:35:14.61 so she decided to watch the show tonight and stay up late. 00:35:14.61\00:35:17.41 And I thought I'd call in with a question. 00:35:17.41\00:35:19.05 It's about Revelation 21:1. 00:35:19.05\00:35:21.75 It says, "I saw a new heaven and a new earth, 00:35:21.75\00:35:23.75 "because the first heaven and earth 00:35:23.75\00:35:25.02 "had disappeared and the sea was gone." 00:35:25.02\00:35:27.82 I'm curious, is that a specific sea that's being referenced 00:35:27.82\00:35:30.83 there, or is that the entire, all the oceans on the earth? 00:35:30.83\00:35:33.53 Will they be gone? 00:35:33.53\00:35:34.93 - Well, when you think about an ocean, it's interesting. 00:35:34.93\00:35:37.43 We've got the Great Lakes, and we have Great Lakes here 00:35:37.43\00:35:42.30 in North America that are bigger than the Sea of Galilee. 00:35:42.30\00:35:45.54 Well, they call the Sea of Galilee a sea, 00:35:45.54\00:35:48.48 and it's full of freshwater, and then you've got 00:35:48.48\00:35:51.11 one of the Great Lakes, I think it's Superior, is saltwater? 00:35:51.11\00:35:54.02 I forget which one. 00:35:54.02\00:35:55.42 It's saltwater, so the terms are sort of interchangeable. 00:35:55.42\00:35:58.92 I think God is saying in the new earth, the typical sea 00:35:58.92\00:36:01.62 that we have now is not gonna hurt people's eyes. 00:36:01.62\00:36:05.46 It's not gonna be salty and undrinkable, 00:36:05.46\00:36:08.26 and there's not gonna be a large, 00:36:08.26\00:36:09.60 vast expanse of water that will separate people. 00:36:09.60\00:36:12.63 There will definitely be bodies of water, 00:36:12.63\00:36:15.34 because it says there's a river 00:36:15.34\00:36:16.94 that is flowing from the throne of God. 00:36:16.94\00:36:18.44 So if you've got a river, rivers flow into lakes or seas. 00:36:18.44\00:36:23.24 So I just think we're not gonna have that big briny, 00:36:23.24\00:36:26.41 salty sea separating the people of the world. 00:36:28.82\00:36:31.29 All right, hey, thanks, good question, Ryan. 00:36:32.99\00:36:35.99 - All right, next caller that we have 00:36:35.99\00:36:37.19 is Brittany listening in California. 00:36:37.19\00:36:39.93 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:36:39.93\00:36:41.76 - [Brittany] Yeah, my question is, 00:36:42.86\00:36:44.73 what does the Bible say about college degrees? 00:36:44.73\00:36:47.90 - Well, I think it tells us that they ask Jesus, 00:36:49.04\00:36:53.27 or they ask others, how does Jesus 00:36:54.78\00:36:56.34 know all these things, having not learned? 00:36:56.34\00:36:59.78 I think the phrase they're using there is like saying, 00:36:59.78\00:37:03.49 He doesn't seem to have any formal education. 00:37:03.49\00:37:07.12 Now, God can work with people that may not have 00:37:07.12\00:37:09.52 formal education, but formal education's very valuable. 00:37:09.52\00:37:12.89 I don't think there's a scripture. 00:37:12.89\00:37:14.63 Solomon, I've done a lot of graduations 00:37:15.73\00:37:17.70 where I talk about Solomon's statement on wisdom: 00:37:17.70\00:37:19.90 "Get wisdom; with your getting, get understanding." 00:37:19.90\00:37:22.57 So the Bible is very clear, He wants us to use our minds 00:37:22.57\00:37:25.87 and to learn all we can, 'cause you'll be more productive. 00:37:25.87\00:37:29.61 But I don't know if you find the word college degree. 00:37:29.61\00:37:32.55 - Yeah, 'cause the Bible gives you the principle 00:37:32.55\00:37:34.05 that whatever you find to do, do it with all your might. 00:37:34.05\00:37:36.08 In other words, do the best job you can. 00:37:36.08\00:37:38.65 Pastor Doug, if you're sick and you're gonna go see a doctor 00:37:38.65\00:37:41.99 or a nurse, you sure hope they've done some education, 00:37:41.99\00:37:45.26 they know what they're doing. (Pastor Ross laughs) 00:37:45.26\00:37:46.83 So I think there's nothing wrong 00:37:46.83\00:37:48.16 for Christians to learn and to be the best that they can be 00:37:48.16\00:37:50.90 in whatever area God is leading them in. 00:37:50.90\00:37:53.57 - Yeah, you think about the story of Daniel, 00:37:53.57\00:37:56.27 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they went through 00:37:56.27\00:37:58.97 intensive training for three and a half years, about, 00:37:58.97\00:38:02.71 so that they could stand in the king's palace. 00:38:03.81\00:38:05.61 Because of their education and they were able to speak 00:38:05.61\00:38:09.15 the language of the Chaldeans as well as Aramaic and Hebrew, 00:38:09.15\00:38:14.09 they were able to do a lot more, 00:38:14.09\00:38:15.76 and God was able to use them. 00:38:15.76\00:38:17.59 So, even though it was not a Hebrew education, 00:38:17.59\00:38:21.50 they had both actually, didn't they, the Lord was able 00:38:21.50\00:38:25.07 to use them because they had that additional wisdom. 00:38:25.07\00:38:27.07 So college is good learning. 00:38:27.07\00:38:29.04 Just pick a good college. 00:38:29.04\00:38:31.27 - That's right, not everything you learn in college is good. 00:38:31.27\00:38:34.11 - [Doug] That's right. 00:38:34.11\00:38:35.41 (both laughing) 00:38:35.41\00:38:36.48 - All right, next caller that we have is Tim, 00:38:36.48\00:38:37.55 listening in Washington. 00:38:37.55\00:38:38.68 Tim, welcome to the program. 00:38:38.68\00:38:40.55 - [Tim] Yeah, this is the truck driver 00:38:40.55\00:38:43.05 that went and saw you in Vegas that time, 00:38:43.05\00:38:46.12 and that was the best experience I've ever had. 00:38:46.12\00:38:49.56 So one of my other truck driving friends, 00:38:50.76\00:38:54.56 I always make sure that this truck shuts down 00:38:54.56\00:38:58.63 Friday night and doesn't move 'til Saturday night 00:38:58.63\00:39:03.07 to the earliest, the best I can. 00:39:03.07\00:39:05.71 So I was explaining to him about the importance 00:39:05.71\00:39:09.38 of taking a sabbath and stuff like that, and he doesn't. 00:39:09.38\00:39:13.52 He says that, well, the time that we live in now, 00:39:14.88\00:39:19.35 he can't do that, but also, so my question is, 00:39:22.09\00:39:26.66 I also went into the three angels message about. 00:39:26.66\00:39:31.70 - Hey, Tim, lemme ask you a question, if I could, 00:39:35.04\00:39:36.94 and by the way, thanks again 00:39:36.94\00:39:37.97 for coming to the meetings there in Vegas. 00:39:37.97\00:39:40.14 Is your friend a Christian? 00:39:40.14\00:39:41.68 - [Tim] He says that he is, but he does not go to church. 00:39:43.04\00:39:46.75 - Well, you know, it seems to me 00:39:46.75\00:39:48.18 that if you're gonna work on a person, 00:39:48.18\00:39:50.12 there are varying degrees of commitment. 00:39:50.12\00:39:53.49 The first thing a person would want, 00:39:54.62\00:39:56.02 I wouldn't go to a person and talk to 'em about the sabbath 00:39:56.02\00:39:59.76 if they've not yet made a complete surrender to Jesus. 00:39:59.76\00:40:02.80 First and foremost is that a person accepts Christ 00:40:04.17\00:40:07.37 and the sacrifice, and you wanna focus on those things. 00:40:07.37\00:40:11.84 Then as they make their commitment to Jesus, 00:40:11.84\00:40:13.68 they're gonna say, you know, I wanna obey Him. 00:40:13.68\00:40:15.54 Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep my commandments." 00:40:15.54\00:40:18.08 Then as they learn those things, 00:40:18.08\00:40:20.02 they're wanting to do what pleases the Lord at that point. 00:40:20.02\00:40:22.68 So it's sort of progressive in that way. 00:40:22.68\00:40:24.75 - [Tim] That is why I was talking to him about the 00:40:26.32\00:40:30.03 sabbath, is because he says yes, you're supposed to keep 00:40:30.03\00:40:34.83 what is written down on the stones, 00:40:34.83\00:40:36.83 and I tell him, "Well, the sabbath commandment is." 00:40:36.83\00:40:39.53 But my question was, so, he believes that you can have 00:40:39.53\00:40:44.51 the Mark of the Beast but still go to heaven. 00:40:45.71\00:40:49.01 - Okay, let's talk about that. 00:40:49.01\00:40:51.58 You know, if there's one thing that's exceedingly clear 00:40:52.98\00:40:55.52 in the Bible is if you read in Revelation chapter 13, 00:40:55.52\00:40:59.95 it says, for instance, verse nine, 00:40:59.95\00:41:01.32 sorry, in Revelation 14 verse nine, 00:41:01.32\00:41:03.83 "Then the third angel followed them with a loud voice, 00:41:03.83\00:41:06.03 "If anyone worships the beast and his image 00:41:06.03\00:41:08.36 "and receives his mark on his forehead or in his hand, 00:41:08.36\00:41:11.60 "he himself shall also drink of the wine 00:41:11.60\00:41:13.97 "of the wrath of God which is poured out 00:41:13.97\00:41:16.10 "full strength into the cup of his indignation. 00:41:16.10\00:41:19.14 "He will be tormented with fire and brimstone 00:41:19.14\00:41:21.64 "in the presence of the holy angels 00:41:21.64\00:41:23.24 "and in the presence of the Lamb." 00:41:23.24\00:41:25.18 It makes it pretty clear that those that receive 00:41:25.18\00:41:30.25 the Mark of the Beast receive the fate of the wicked. 00:41:31.55\00:41:32.65 It's completely out of God's will. 00:41:32.65\00:41:35.02 They're kind of making themselves enemies of God, 00:41:35.02\00:41:37.46 and they receive some of the most severe 00:41:37.46\00:41:39.29 judgments mentioned in Scripture. 00:41:39.29\00:41:41.50 - You know, we do have a study guide talking 00:41:41.50\00:41:43.06 about the three angels' message, and it's called 00:41:43.06\00:41:45.03 Messages from Space, Angel Messages from Space. 00:41:45.03\00:41:48.80 One of those messages is talking 00:41:48.80\00:41:50.41 about the Mark of the Beast. 00:41:50.41\00:41:51.37 So we'll be happy to send that 00:41:51.37\00:41:52.91 to anyone wanting to learn more about the subject. 00:41:52.91\00:41:55.74 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:41:55.74\00:41:59.55 You can ask for the Amazing Facts study guide 00:41:59.55\00:42:01.95 called Angel Messages from Space. 00:42:01.95\00:42:04.62 You will be blessed by reading that. 00:42:04.62\00:42:06.62 Thanks, Tim. 00:42:06.62\00:42:07.72 And we've got Will listening in Canada. 00:42:07.72\00:42:08.79 Weil, welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:42:08.79\00:42:11.06 - [Will] Hello, pastors? 00:42:12.16\00:42:13.09 - Yes, hi, Will. 00:42:13.09\00:42:14.66 - [Will] Yeah, my question is 00:42:14.66\00:42:16.77 in Genesis chapter one verse 28. 00:42:16.77\00:42:19.17 I would like to know, does this still apply to us today, 00:42:20.74\00:42:24.51 people living in the end time, especially 00:42:24.51\00:42:27.38 "be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth"? 00:42:28.78\00:42:32.65 Does this still apply to us? 00:42:32.65\00:42:34.28 I believe that we are living really at the end of time. 00:42:34.28\00:42:38.82 - Yeah, you need to mix this verse, well, first of all, 00:42:38.82\00:42:41.36 keep in mind that when God first tells Adam and Eve 00:42:41.36\00:42:44.03 to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth, 00:42:44.03\00:42:46.46 the world "replenish" is also the word "fill." 00:42:46.46\00:42:49.10 He wanted to populate the world 00:42:49.10\00:42:50.87 with the humans that He made in His image. 00:42:50.87\00:42:53.74 But clearly, by the time you get to the Flood, 00:42:54.94\00:42:57.14 man had become so wicked that God depopulated the earth. 00:42:57.14\00:43:02.11 Then after Noah and his family were saved, 00:43:03.21\00:43:04.68 He again tells them, "Be fruitful and fill the earth." 00:43:04.68\00:43:07.48 Well, the earth is getting pretty full, 00:43:07.48\00:43:08.92 and then Jesus tells us in Matthew 24, 00:43:08.92\00:43:11.69 speaking of this great time of trouble, He says 00:43:11.69\00:43:13.69 "Woe to those who are with child and nursing in those days." 00:43:13.69\00:43:17.43 On the way to the cross, He talked to the women 00:43:17.43\00:43:19.76 that were weeping for Him and said, "Don't weep for Me. 00:43:19.76\00:43:21.56 "Weep for yourself, 'cause the days are coming 00:43:21.56\00:43:24.07 "where you're gonna say, Blessed are the wombs 00:43:24.07\00:43:26.57 "that did not bear and the breasts that did not nurse." 00:43:26.57\00:43:29.47 Even Paul said, during this great Roman persecution, 00:43:32.61\00:43:34.81 he said, "It might be better not to marry," 00:43:34.81\00:43:38.11 because you get married, and in the progression, 00:43:38.11\00:43:40.45 you bring children into a world 00:43:40.45\00:43:41.82 where Christians were severely persecuted. 00:43:41.82\00:43:44.45 So I think you need to take a lot of things into account. 00:43:44.45\00:43:47.66 Far be it from me to tell a couple 00:43:49.76\00:43:51.69 you shouldn't get married or shouldn't have children. 00:43:53.06\00:43:55.90 That's something every individual needs to pray about. 00:43:55.90\00:43:58.57 But there will come a time in history where it's gonna be 00:43:58.57\00:44:01.14 probably prudent not to have a lot of children. 00:44:01.14\00:44:04.17 - All right, thanks for your call, Will. 00:44:05.31\00:44:06.31 We've got Theo listening in Toronto. 00:44:06.31\00:44:08.88 Theo, welcome to the program. 00:44:08.88\00:44:10.38 - [Theo] Hello, hi. 00:44:11.21\00:44:12.48 - Hi! 00:44:12.48\00:44:14.12 - [Theo] My question is, what should you do 00:44:14.12\00:44:17.62 to not dwell on certain continuous problems that occur? 00:44:17.62\00:44:22.69 So a couple months ago, I graduated, and I was playing 00:44:24.06\00:44:27.56 basketball, and I tore my meniscus and ACL. 00:44:27.56\00:44:30.60 So I just wanted to know, what should one do to not focus 00:44:30.60\00:44:35.67 on the past and how to navigate continuous trials? 00:44:36.97\00:44:40.48 - Yeah, well, first of all, 00:44:40.48\00:44:42.31 we'll pray that your knee heals up. 00:44:42.31\00:44:44.71 I know people that have had that problem, and they did heal. 00:44:44.71\00:44:48.08 Hopefully you're younger, and it'll get better. 00:44:48.08\00:44:52.05 You know, whenever you go through a trial, 00:44:54.22\00:44:56.49 know that God, for a believer, God can use 00:44:56.49\00:44:59.09 every hardship and every trial is a redemptive way, 00:44:59.09\00:45:02.66 and He can turn it for good. 00:45:02.66\00:45:04.67 I mean, you might find, well, because you've torn your knee, 00:45:04.67\00:45:08.60 now you're gonna take some time 00:45:08.60\00:45:09.94 and you're gonna start studying and learning a new language 00:45:09.94\00:45:11.91 that will bless you the rest of your life, 00:45:11.91\00:45:13.34 and you'll look back and say, 00:45:13.34\00:45:14.84 "Wow, I was glad I hurt my knee. 00:45:14.84\00:45:16.11 "I never would have learned that new language." 00:45:16.11\00:45:17.48 I'm just making that up, but God can work things for good. 00:45:17.48\00:45:22.52 And so, we do have some encouraging things online 00:45:22.52\00:45:27.59 that talk about how to endure trials. 00:45:28.69\00:45:31.96 I have a new book I've written that talks about 00:45:31.96\00:45:34.56 how to live in peace in a world full of worry. 00:45:34.56\00:45:36.93 There's a lot of trials in the world, 00:45:39.17\00:45:40.50 and people are wanting to know, 00:45:40.50\00:45:41.80 how can I have peace in spite of my trials? 00:45:41.80\00:45:43.84 That's kinda what you're asking right now. 00:45:43.84\00:45:46.64 - And I don't think, Pastor Doug, 00:45:46.64\00:45:47.74 we have that book available today. 00:45:47.74\00:45:48.88 - No, well, it's at the Amazing Facts bookstore. 00:45:48.88\00:45:50.91 It's not expensive, but you'd have to buy that one. 00:45:50.91\00:45:52.65 - It is, just go to Amazing Facts website. 00:45:52.65\00:45:53.72 Yeah, absolutely. 00:45:53.72\00:45:55.28 All right, next caller that we have 00:45:55.28\00:45:56.69 is Suzie, listening from Colorado. 00:45:56.69\00:45:59.22 Suzie, welcome to the program. 00:45:59.22\00:46:00.79 - [Suzie] Hi, thanks for taking my call. 00:46:01.92\00:46:04.53 Before I ask you my question, 00:46:04.53\00:46:05.93 I just wanna say, because of you 00:46:05.93\00:46:08.10 and many prayers and the working of the Holy Spirit, 00:46:08.10\00:46:11.13 my son and grandson were baptized. 00:46:11.13\00:46:13.74 - Amen, that's encouraging. 00:46:13.74\00:46:15.47 - [Suzie] So I just appreciate your programs. 00:46:15.47\00:46:17.14 - A double blessing, praise the Lord. 00:46:17.14\00:46:18.71 - [Suzie] My question, yes, it is. 00:46:18.71\00:46:20.71 My question is Isaiah 14:13. 00:46:20.71\00:46:23.58 Satan is saying, "I wanna sit on the mountain 00:46:24.88\00:46:26.68 "of the meeting in the sides of the north," 00:46:26.68\00:46:28.68 and I don't understand any of that. 00:46:28.68\00:46:30.79 - Yeah, well, this is a passage in Isaiah, 00:46:31.89\00:46:34.82 for our friends that are listening, 00:46:34.82\00:46:37.16 and you said Isaiah 14:15? 00:46:38.23\00:46:40.06 - [Suzie] Isaiah 14:13. 00:46:40.90\00:46:42.26 - Oh, 13, all right, lemme read this for our friends. 00:46:42.26\00:46:44.67 This is a prophecy in the Bible where Isaiah, 00:46:44.67\00:46:48.47 he starts out talking about a king, 00:46:48.47\00:46:50.34 and then he transitions to the power, 00:46:50.34\00:46:52.54 the evil power behind the king, which is the devil. 00:46:52.54\00:46:55.41 "For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into 00:46:55.41\00:46:57.81 heaven; "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. 00:46:57.81\00:47:01.05 "I'll also sit on the mount of the congregation 00:47:01.05\00:47:03.52 "on the farthest sides of the north." 00:47:03.52\00:47:05.69 People in the ancient world, and even people today, 00:47:05.69\00:47:08.26 you say you're in Australia, they call it "Down Under." 00:47:08.26\00:47:11.26 You look at the globe, and you figure north is top or up. 00:47:12.59\00:47:14.93 Even the ancients used to look towards the North Star, 00:47:16.30\00:47:19.30 and that was considered the heights of the heavens. 00:47:19.30\00:47:22.84 So when the devil is saying he wanted to sit 00:47:22.84\00:47:25.91 in the farthest parts of the north, he's basically saying 00:47:25.91\00:47:28.01 he wanted to be on the top of the pile. 00:47:28.01\00:47:30.85 He wanted the highest position. 00:47:30.85\00:47:32.48 You keep reading, it says, "I'll exalt my throne 00:47:33.82\00:47:35.55 "above the stars of God. 00:47:35.55\00:47:36.92 "I will sit on the mount of the congregation 00:47:36.92\00:47:39.39 "on the farthest sides of the north. 00:47:39.39\00:47:41.56 "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds. 00:47:41.56\00:47:43.89 "I will be like the Most High. 00:47:43.89\00:47:46.13 "But you will be brought down to Sheol, 00:47:46.13\00:47:47.96 "the lowest depths of the pit." 00:47:47.96\00:47:49.76 This is the devil wanting the position of God, 00:47:49.76\00:47:51.90 the highest position, and "the farthest sides of the north" 00:47:51.90\00:47:55.27 was sort of an ancient way of saying that. 00:47:55.27\00:47:57.67 - You know, we do have a study guide 00:47:57.67\00:47:58.77 that talks about the origin of sin. 00:47:58.77\00:48:01.24 It's called Did God Create the Devil, and it actually 00:48:01.24\00:48:04.11 gets into this very passage in Isaiah chapter 14. 00:48:04.11\00:48:07.12 We'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:48:07.12\00:48:09.62 The number is 800-835-6747, and you can ask 00:48:09.62\00:48:13.89 for the study guide Did God Create the Devil. 00:48:13.89\00:48:16.16 It'll look at these different Old Testament passages, 00:48:16.16\00:48:18.26 also New Testament, that talks about 00:48:18.26\00:48:20.33 our adversary the devil and who he came from. 00:48:20.33\00:48:23.20 It's an informative study. 00:48:23.20\00:48:24.97 Thank you for your call, Suzie. 00:48:24.97\00:48:26.60 We've got Joshua listening in Indiana. 00:48:26.60\00:48:30.54 Joshua, welcome to the program. 00:48:30.54\00:48:32.17 - [Joshua] Hello, thank you, pastors. 00:48:34.34\00:48:36.71 Good evening to you. - Evening! 00:48:38.01\00:48:39.81 - [Joshua] My question is, who is Lilith? 00:48:41.65\00:48:45.72 Is she a real person from the Bible, 00:48:45.72\00:48:49.59 or is she a myth, and while we're on that, how do we know 00:48:49.59\00:48:53.36 which stories that are connected to the Bible and the Torah, 00:48:53.36\00:48:58.40 how do we know if they're mythological or real? 00:48:59.73\00:49:02.67 - Well, first of all, the books of Moses 00:49:03.74\00:49:06.68 have been unanimously believed by Jews and Christians 00:49:06.68\00:49:11.61 to be a sacred history that is accurate. 00:49:11.61\00:49:15.22 Lilith is from a tradition that is not found 00:49:15.22\00:49:19.15 in any Jewish history until much later. 00:49:19.15\00:49:22.79 I think it was following the Babylonian captivity. 00:49:22.79\00:49:25.36 A lot of myths drew out, and I think some of the apocryphal 00:49:26.73\00:49:29.73 books that you might find, for instance, 00:49:29.73\00:49:31.53 in the Catholic Bible, these are sort of manufactured. 00:49:31.53\00:49:35.60 But they're nowhere near the level of the Torah, 00:49:36.74\00:49:39.77 the Pentateuch, the books of Moses. 00:49:39.77\00:49:42.18 Lilith, for our friends that are listening, 00:49:42.18\00:49:44.11 there's a legend that Adam had a first wife before Eve, 00:49:44.11\00:49:48.95 and something went south with her. 00:49:48.95\00:49:51.02 Her name was Lilith, and then later, Eve came along. 00:49:51.02\00:49:53.69 That is a myth. 00:49:54.96\00:49:57.93 Don't let the myths, 00:49:57.93\00:50:00.00 don't let the broke glass distract you from the diamond. 00:50:01.30\00:50:03.57 There's no difference, I mean, there's no comparison, 00:50:03.57\00:50:05.90 I should say, between the scriptures that you would find 00:50:05.90\00:50:09.57 in the Bible that have stood the test of time 00:50:09.57\00:50:12.34 and some of these traditions and fables. 00:50:12.34\00:50:14.01 The Bible is the best-selling book in history, 00:50:14.01\00:50:16.95 not the legends of Lilith. 00:50:16.95\00:50:18.75 - You know, many of the stories that you read about 00:50:18.75\00:50:20.42 in the Bible are referenced by other writers in the Bible, 00:50:20.42\00:50:23.59 even Jesus Himself, for example, Jonah. 00:50:23.59\00:50:25.62 Jesus said Jonah was in the whale 00:50:25.62\00:50:28.12 three days and three nights. 00:50:28.12\00:50:30.16 - Jesus doesn't mention Lilith. 00:50:30.16\00:50:31.73 - No, He doesn't. (both laughing) 00:50:31.73\00:50:33.43 But He does talk about Adam and Eve. 00:50:33.43\00:50:34.46 - Neither does Peter, James, John, 00:50:34.46\00:50:35.83 or the other Bible others, Isaiah. 00:50:35.83\00:50:38.00 So you won't find any of them referencing that. 00:50:38.00\00:50:40.24 You do find Ezekiel talking about Job, he talks about Noah, 00:50:40.24\00:50:43.41 he talks about Daniel, so they were real characters. 00:50:43.41\00:50:46.24 So they cross-reference, as you say, the others. 00:50:46.24\00:50:48.78 - Okay, good question. 00:50:48.78\00:50:49.71 Next caller that we have 00:50:49.71\00:50:50.95 is we've got Scott listening on Florida. 00:50:50.95\00:50:54.35 Scott, welcome to the program. 00:50:54.35\00:50:56.25 - [Scott] I know you don't have much time, 00:50:56.25\00:50:57.79 so I'm gonna get right to it, Revelation three and 10. 00:50:57.79\00:51:02.56 "Because you have kept my word in patience and endurance, 00:51:03.89\00:51:08.90 "I will keep you from the hour of trial 00:51:10.10\00:51:14.24 "which is coming to the whole world." 00:51:14.24\00:51:17.47 I'm having a lot of trouble 00:51:17.47\00:51:19.47 when I'm talking to people about the pre-tribulation 00:51:20.88\00:51:23.45 and they keep on bringing this verse up, 00:51:24.45\00:51:26.85 saying, "Well, what do you have to say about this?" 00:51:26.85\00:51:30.69 I say, well, it's not gonna be a secret rapture. 00:51:30.69\00:51:34.19 It's going to be at the same time. 00:51:34.19\00:51:36.62 He's just gonna protect us, the church of Philadelphia, 00:51:36.62\00:51:41.23 which, without getting into the two churches 00:51:41.23\00:51:43.70 and the candlesticks and the two witnesses and all that, 00:51:43.70\00:51:46.87 how can I kinda snub that 00:51:46.87\00:51:49.04 without getting into this big theological speech 00:51:50.47\00:51:53.31 and getting into the 144,000 and the two witnesses? 00:51:54.71\00:51:58.41 I just want a quicker answer, 00:51:58.41\00:52:00.58 I guess. (Scott laughs) 00:52:00.58\00:52:01.72 - Well, the promise that God makes to the church 00:52:01.72\00:52:03.39 of Philadelphia is talking about the experience 00:52:03.39\00:52:05.92 of the church in a certain age of history. 00:52:05.92\00:52:08.62 It is not the last age. 00:52:08.62\00:52:09.99 The last age is when you get to the church of Laodicea. 00:52:09.99\00:52:12.73 The idea that God is gonna keep us 00:52:13.83\00:52:15.93 from the hour of temptation, 00:52:15.93\00:52:17.23 God does keep His people through trial and temptation. 00:52:17.23\00:52:20.60 God kept Israel through the 10 plagues 00:52:20.60\00:52:24.21 that fell on the Egyptians. 00:52:24.21\00:52:25.74 They were in Egypt during the plagues, 00:52:25.74\00:52:28.61 but He kept them, He preserved them. 00:52:28.61\00:52:30.05 So the idea that you can use this verse 00:52:30.05\00:52:32.45 to say that God is gonna rapture the church 00:52:32.45\00:52:34.92 out of the world because He loves us too much 00:52:34.92\00:52:37.59 to allow us to go through trial, 00:52:37.59\00:52:39.52 that's inconsistent with everything else in the Bible. 00:52:39.52\00:52:42.26 Paul said in the Book of Acts that all that live godly 00:52:42.26\00:52:45.69 in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 00:52:45.69\00:52:47.60 Actually, that's in Timothy. 00:52:47.60\00:52:48.90 Paul said, "It is through much tribulation 00:52:48.90\00:52:52.33 "we enter the kingdom of God." 00:52:52.33\00:52:54.10 Joseph was redeemed through tribulation. 00:52:56.34\00:52:59.11 You find Job being saved through tribulation. 00:52:59.11\00:53:01.84 God preserved them through the tribulation, 00:53:01.84\00:53:03.68 but they experienced some trials. 00:53:03.68\00:53:06.21 And so, God preserving His church does not mean that... 00:53:06.21\00:53:10.92 You know, all that live godly will suffer trials. 00:53:10.92\00:53:13.59 All that live ungodly will suffer trials. 00:53:13.59\00:53:16.26 So to use this verse to say that this is evidence 00:53:16.26\00:53:18.83 that God is gonna rapture the church out of the world 00:53:18.83\00:53:21.83 before the time of trouble, Jesus said, 00:53:21.83\00:53:23.87 "He that endures to the end, the same will be saved." 00:53:23.87\00:53:26.70 Endures what? 00:53:26.70\00:53:27.84 Well, we're gonna be here, 00:53:27.84\00:53:28.90 and there'll be something to endure. 00:53:28.90\00:53:29.70 But He preserves His people. 00:53:29.70\00:53:32.24 Psalm 91 says, "No plague will come nigh your dwelling. 00:53:32.24\00:53:35.38 "You'll look to your right and your left, 00:53:35.38\00:53:37.48 "and only with your eyes will you see 00:53:37.48\00:53:39.41 "the destruction of the wicked." 00:53:39.41\00:53:40.52 You're there, but He's preserving you. 00:53:40.52\00:53:43.42 So the seven last plagues, 00:53:43.42\00:53:45.12 very similar to the plagues that fell on Egypt, 00:53:45.12\00:53:47.82 Israel was in Egypt during the plagues, 00:53:47.82\00:53:50.19 and He preserved them. 00:53:50.19\00:53:51.49 We will be preserved during this time of trouble. 00:53:51.49\00:53:54.20 Don't fear it, but it doesn't mean 00:53:54.20\00:53:56.23 we're raptured out of the world. 00:53:56.23\00:53:58.33 - I think specifically you mentioned there, Pastor Doug, 00:53:58.33\00:54:00.10 the the message here is the church of Philadelphia. 00:54:00.10\00:54:03.20 There are seven divisions, seven churches that we find 00:54:03.20\00:54:05.57 in Revelation chapter two and three, 00:54:05.57\00:54:07.31 and they represent seven time periods of the Christian era. 00:54:07.31\00:54:10.21 It's very clear, there's a number of theologians 00:54:10.21\00:54:12.41 and Bible scholars that recognize this. 00:54:12.41\00:54:15.02 The church of Philadelphia, 00:54:15.02\00:54:16.32 their time period ends around 1844. 00:54:16.32\00:54:19.35 Well, of course, we've been here since then, 00:54:19.35\00:54:21.32 more than 150 years, whatever it's been. 00:54:21.32\00:54:23.56 It's really to the seventh church, the church of Laodicea, 00:54:23.56\00:54:26.90 that we actually have the church 00:54:26.90\00:54:28.93 at the time of the plagues and the second coming of Christ. 00:54:28.93\00:54:32.33 - Exactly, so hopefully, that makes sense and it explains. 00:54:32.33\00:54:36.97 You know, we do have a book that talks 00:54:38.61\00:54:40.08 about the rapture and the tribulation, Scott, 00:54:40.08\00:54:43.78 and we'll be happy to send you a free copy. 00:54:43.78\00:54:45.95 It's called Anything But Secret. 00:54:45.95\00:54:48.28 - The number to call for that is 800-835-6747, and again, 00:54:48.28\00:54:52.62 you can ask for the book called Anything But Secret. 00:54:52.62\00:54:55.29 - There is a rapture. 00:54:55.29\00:54:56.42 It is not a secret. 00:54:56.42\00:54:58.36 He's coming like a thief, 00:54:58.36\00:54:59.73 but the heavens will pass away with a great noise, 00:54:59.73\00:55:01.50 and all elements will melt with fervent heat. 00:55:01.50\00:55:03.90 Hey, listen to me, friends, it's been a delight. 00:55:03.90\00:55:05.77 This is one of the fastest hours in the week. 00:55:05.77\00:55:07.67 We're coming back in a few minutes 00:55:07.67\00:55:09.17 with rapid-fire Bible questions, 00:55:09.17\00:55:10.71 signing off with our satellite listeners. 00:55:10.71\00:55:13.34 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:55:13.34\00:55:15.81 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:15.81\00:55:18.41 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:18.41\00:55:22.12 Bible Answers Live is produced 00:55:22.12\00:55:23.99 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:23.99\00:55:26.29 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:26.29\00:55:30.56 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:55:30.56\00:55:32.23 - Hello, friends, welcome again for our internet questions. 00:55:32.23\00:55:35.76 Thank you for sending in your emails and your questions. 00:55:35.76\00:55:38.70 Pastor Doug, we've got a number of great questions 00:55:38.70\00:55:40.80 that's come in, and we're gonna see 00:55:40.80\00:55:42.17 how many we can get to in the next two minutes or so. 00:55:42.17\00:55:44.57 So here's question number one: "Does the Bible say that 00:55:44.57\00:55:47.51 "the wicked will burn up at different lengths of time 00:55:47.51\00:55:50.18 "depending upon their wickedness?" 00:55:50.18\00:55:53.28 - It doesn't word it that away, but Jesus is pretty clear. 00:55:53.28\00:55:55.72 He said, "He that knew his master's will and did not do it 00:55:55.72\00:56:00.19 "will be beaten with many stripes." 00:56:00.19\00:56:01.82 Of course, we're not gonna be whipped in heaven. 00:56:01.82\00:56:03.83 It's talking about suffering, 00:56:03.83\00:56:05.09 "and he that did not know his master's will 00:56:05.09\00:56:07.66 "and did not do it will be beaten with few stripes." 00:56:07.66\00:56:10.27 And then of course, the Bible tells us 00:56:10.27\00:56:12.10 every man is judged according to his works, 00:56:12.10\00:56:14.10 and they're rewarded according to their works. 00:56:14.10\00:56:16.67 So if there are varying works, there are obviously 00:56:16.67\00:56:19.31 varying degrees of reward and punishment. 00:56:19.31\00:56:22.34 So, I think the teaching is certainly there in the Bible. 00:56:22.34\00:56:25.81 - Okay, next question that we have, this is from Mary, 00:56:25.81\00:56:28.42 and she's asking about clarification 00:56:28.42\00:56:30.45 on paying tithe on Social Security. 00:56:30.45\00:56:33.79 Do you pay on the gross amount, 00:56:33.79\00:56:35.59 or what do you do if you're not working? 00:56:35.59\00:56:37.69 - All right, so when you have Social Security, 00:56:38.79\00:56:41.20 if when you are receiving your paycheck 00:56:42.56\00:56:45.73 and something's being taken out for Social security, 00:56:45.73\00:56:48.50 if you are paying on your gross income 00:56:48.50\00:56:50.77 during those working years, you're paying tithe in advance, 00:56:50.77\00:56:55.21 really, on the Social Security. 00:56:55.21\00:56:56.51 So when you get your check in retirement, 00:56:56.51\00:56:58.11 you say, I already paid tithe on that. 00:56:58.11\00:57:00.48 Now, if you're deducting your Social Security 00:57:00.48\00:57:03.22 during those working years and saying, 00:57:03.22\00:57:04.92 I'm not paying tithe on that income because it was deducted, 00:57:04.92\00:57:07.62 well then, when you get it later, 00:57:07.62\00:57:08.86 you should probably pay on it. 00:57:08.86\00:57:10.73 If you wanna play it safe, try and outgive the Lord. 00:57:10.73\00:57:13.19 You can't do it, friends. 00:57:13.19\00:57:14.56 He'll open the windows of heaven and bless you. 00:57:14.56\00:57:16.87 - Another question that we have, Emmy's asking, 00:57:16.87\00:57:19.33 "Is there a difference between heaven, 00:57:19.33\00:57:21.77 "paradise, the New Jerusalem? 00:57:21.77\00:57:24.24 "Are they all the same place, 00:57:24.24\00:57:25.34 "or do people go to different places?" 00:57:25.34\00:57:28.11 - Well, they're really all the same place. 00:57:28.11\00:57:29.74 When we think about heaven, 00:57:29.74\00:57:31.81 we think about the dwelling place of God. 00:57:31.81\00:57:33.68 It sometimes is called the paradise of God. 00:57:33.68\00:57:35.95 Paradise is speaking more 00:57:35.95\00:57:37.02 about the Garden of Eden in the city of God. 00:57:37.02\00:57:39.92 Sometimes we might say, "I'm going to heaven." 00:57:39.92\00:57:41.86 it's talking about the whole realm of the redeemed, 00:57:41.86\00:57:43.96 which would be everything up there. 00:57:43.96\00:57:46.36 The New Jerusalem is gonna be the capital of the world 00:57:46.36\00:57:50.40 made new we read about in Revelation 21 and Revelation 22. 00:57:50.40\00:57:55.47 - All right, maybe one more quick question, Pastor Doug. 00:57:56.87\00:57:58.94 "How do you love somebody 00:57:58.94\00:58:00.34 "who is unrepentant and have done terrible things?" 00:58:00.34\00:58:03.51 - Well, hopefully you can ask 00:58:03.51\00:58:05.11 for the Spirit to help you do it, 00:58:05.11\00:58:06.48 because while I was yet a sinner, Christ loved me. 00:58:06.48\00:58:11.49 I was unrepentant for a good part of my life, 00:58:12.59\00:58:14.02 and He still loved me and forgave me. 00:58:14.02\00:58:15.76 Ask for His Spirit to do the same. 00:58:15.76\00:58:17.73 God bless, friends. 00:58:17.73\00:58:18.53 We'll study again next week. 00:58:18.53\00:58:20.00 (triumphant orchestral music) 00:58:20.00\00:58:21.00 -
