00:00:51.51\00:00:54.08 On June 23rd, 2022, 00:00:54.08\00:00:56.82 Amazon revealed an experimental Alexa feature 00:00:56.82\00:01:00.46 that allows the AI assistant to mimic the voices 00:01:00.46\00:01:03.46 of the user's dead relatives. 00:01:03.46\00:01:06.13 The company demonstrated the feature 00:01:06.13\00:01:07.93 at its annual MARS conference, 00:01:07.93\00:01:10.03 showing a video in which a child is seen asking Alexa 00:01:10.03\00:01:13.57 to read the "Wizard of Oz". 00:01:13.57\00:01:15.44 And then you hear a unique voice we later learn 00:01:15.44\00:01:18.31 is his deceased grandmother reading the book to him 00:01:18.31\00:01:21.08 with a natural warmth and inflection. 00:01:21.08\00:01:23.75 Amazon said, "Its AI systems can learn 00:01:23.75\00:01:26.25 to imitate someone's voice 00:01:26.25\00:01:27.82 from just a single minute of recorded audio." 00:01:27.82\00:01:31.22 In an age of abundant videos and voice notes, 00:01:31.22\00:01:33.76 this means it's well within the average consumer's reach 00:01:33.76\00:01:36.69 to clone the voices of deceased parents, spouses, 00:01:36.69\00:01:39.79 or friends to create new messages. 00:01:39.79\00:01:43.20 I can understand people 00:01:43.20\00:01:44.73 wanting to remember their loved ones, Pastor Ross, 00:01:44.73\00:01:46.80 but this could get a little creepy, 00:01:46.80\00:01:48.54 'cause I think people already think 00:01:48.54\00:01:51.11 that the dead are communicating with them. 00:01:51.11\00:01:52.94 - That's right, Pastor Doug. 00:01:52.94\00:01:54.01 It's interesting, you know, 00:01:54.01\00:01:55.58 when you get a phone call and you answer the phone, 00:01:55.58\00:01:57.91 you could, for the most part, 00:01:57.91\00:01:59.48 tell who's calling you by the sound of their voice, 00:01:59.48\00:02:02.08 especially somebody you know well. 00:02:02.08\00:02:03.49 You don't have to ask or look at the call ID 00:02:03.49\00:02:05.42 to see who this is. 00:02:05.42\00:02:07.12 We connect the sound of a person's voice with who they 00:02:07.12\00:02:09.82 are, their personality and you know, it's not a new thing, 00:02:09.82\00:02:12.86 but even the Bible speaks of people 00:02:12.86\00:02:15.20 wanting to communicate with a dead loved one. 00:02:15.20\00:02:18.57 Now maybe they wanna see the person, 00:02:18.57\00:02:21.17 but for sure they want to hear this dead loved one 00:02:21.17\00:02:23.61 communicate to them. 00:02:23.61\00:02:25.07 That's not only something we find in the Bible, 00:02:25.07\00:02:27.18 but I think most of our listeners know 00:02:27.18\00:02:28.78 that there is just an increased interest 00:02:28.78\00:02:32.45 in communicating with the dead. 00:02:32.45\00:02:34.52 - Yeah and the Bible forgives or forbids rather, 00:02:34.52\00:02:37.12 what it calls necromancy, are trying, a medium, 00:02:37.12\00:02:40.86 someone who tries to communicate with a dead, 00:02:40.86\00:02:43.26 and you can read in Ecclesiastes 9:5. 00:02:43.26\00:02:45.53 "So the living know that they'll die, 00:02:46.80\00:02:49.30 but the dead do not know anything." 00:02:49.30\00:02:51.83 And so, and you can read here, 00:02:51.83\00:02:54.00 there it is on the screen for those watching the TV program, 00:02:54.00\00:02:56.74 "Neither have they anymore a reward 00:02:56.74\00:02:58.71 for the memory of them is forgotten." 00:02:58.71\00:03:00.38 And verse six goes on to say, 00:03:00.38\00:03:02.04 "For their love, their hatred, their envy is now perished. 00:03:02.04\00:03:06.48 Neither have they any more a portion forever 00:03:06.48\00:03:08.92 in anything that is done under the sun." 00:03:08.92\00:03:10.79 Under the sun, meaning in this life. 00:03:10.79\00:03:13.19 Now where a lot of people get confused. 00:03:13.19\00:03:15.66 We know that when a believer dies, 00:03:15.66\00:03:17.46 their next conscious thought is the resurrection 00:03:17.46\00:03:20.76 and the presence of the Lord. 00:03:20.76\00:03:22.36 But that doesn't happen till the coming of the Lord. 00:03:22.36\00:03:24.63 For them it's instant, it feels instant, 00:03:24.63\00:03:27.57 but the dead haven't gone to heaven 00:03:27.57\00:03:29.30 until there's a resurrection. 00:03:29.30\00:03:30.84 The judgment hasn't happened yet and that's still future. 00:03:30.84\00:03:34.48 So this idea that we can communicate with the dead 00:03:34.48\00:03:36.78 is a great fallacy. 00:03:36.78\00:03:38.05 And I'm surprised how many Christians believe 00:03:38.05\00:03:40.02 that they're getting messages from the dead 00:03:40.02\00:03:42.75 and this is spiritism really. 00:03:42.75\00:03:44.79 - Now somebody might be wondering, 00:03:44.79\00:03:46.19 "Well, what's the big deal? 00:03:46.19\00:03:47.92 So what if you think your dead loved one 00:03:47.92\00:03:49.52 is speaking to you?" 00:03:49.52\00:03:50.73 Well, we do know that the Bible tells us 00:03:50.73\00:03:52.59 that at the end of time, 00:03:52.59\00:03:54.00 the devil's gonna do everything he can to deceive. 00:03:54.00\00:03:56.13 And one of the deceptions of the devil 00:03:56.13\00:03:57.83 is going to be impersonating dead loved ones 00:03:57.83\00:04:01.00 to lead people astray. 00:04:01.00\00:04:02.50 The Bible says. "That the devil 00:04:02.50\00:04:03.84 is able to perform signs and wonders." 00:04:03.84\00:04:06.61 And especially at the end of time, 00:04:06.61\00:04:08.14 there are these evil spirits that are going around the world 00:04:08.14\00:04:11.51 and they're trying to deceive people. 00:04:11.51\00:04:13.45 So if a dead loved one shows up 00:04:13.45\00:04:14.98 and they communicating something and they say, 00:04:14.98\00:04:16.58 "Oh, this is, you know, a message from heaven." 00:04:16.58\00:04:18.89 And if a person doesn't understand 00:04:18.89\00:04:20.76 what happens when a person really dies, 00:04:20.76\00:04:22.96 well they setting themselves up for deception. 00:04:22.96\00:04:25.49 - Yeah and especially if something is gonna contradict 00:04:25.49\00:04:27.86 what you find in the Bible, it's dangerous. 00:04:27.86\00:04:30.87 And this has happened before as well. 00:04:30.87\00:04:33.13 Well, now some of our friends 00:04:33.13\00:04:34.44 might wanna know where are the Bible verses, 00:04:34.44\00:04:36.57 what does it say about this subject 00:04:36.57\00:04:38.61 of are the dead really dead? 00:04:38.61\00:04:40.91 And you'll be happy to know friends, 00:04:40.91\00:04:42.14 that we do have a free offer 00:04:42.14\00:04:43.31 that gives you a whole study 00:04:43.31\00:04:44.55 on what the Bible teaches on this. 00:04:44.55\00:04:46.68 - The study guide is simply entitled, 00:04:46.68\00:04:48.12 "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:04:48.12\00:04:49.82 And we'll be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks 00:04:49.82\00:04:52.75 the number to call. 00:04:52.75\00:04:53.69 You'll see it on your screen, 00:04:53.69\00:04:54.92 if you're watching is 800-835-6747, 00:04:54.92\00:04:58.56 and you can ask for the study guide by name, 00:04:58.56\00:05:00.56 "Are the Dead Really Dead?" or ask for offer number 117, 00:05:00.56\00:05:04.60 and we'll be happy to send that out 00:05:04.60\00:05:05.83 to anyone in North America. 00:05:05.83\00:05:07.44 I know we do have folks who are listening 00:05:07.44\00:05:09.27 outside of North America, 00:05:09.27\00:05:10.54 and if you'd like to read the study guide, 00:05:10.54\00:05:12.07 we encourage you to go to the Amazing Facts website, 00:05:12.07\00:05:14.24 just amazingfacts.org, you'll be able to read it there. 00:05:14.24\00:05:17.41 You can actually sign up for a free Bible study. 00:05:17.41\00:05:20.25 You can do this both online, 00:05:20.25\00:05:21.58 or you can actually mail in your study guides, 00:05:21.58\00:05:24.22 and you'll go through a series of great Bible lessons, 00:05:24.22\00:05:27.26 helping to understand these important truths of scripture. 00:05:27.26\00:05:30.43 You know, pastor Doug, 00:05:30.43\00:05:31.69 we also wanna welcome those who are joining 00:05:31.69\00:05:33.26 on not only listening on satellite radio, 00:05:33.26\00:05:35.90 and on land-based radio stations, 00:05:35.90\00:05:37.93 but we have folks who are also watching 00:05:37.93\00:05:39.87 at the Amazing Facts television station or channel 00:05:39.87\00:05:43.51 as well as watching online 00:05:43.51\00:05:44.84 on the Doug Batchelor Facebook page, 00:05:44.84\00:05:46.84 on the Amazing Facts Facebook page. 00:05:46.84\00:05:49.64 So we want to greet all of you. 00:05:49.64\00:05:51.08 If you have a Bible question, our phone lines are open 00:05:51.08\00:05:53.52 and the number to call is 800-463-7297. 00:05:53.52\00:05:58.52 Again, that's 800-463-7297. 00:05:59.39\00:06:01.59 If you pick up your phone and give us a call, 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.96 there's a very good chance 00:06:04.96\00:06:06.23 that you'll get on tonight's program. 00:06:06.23\00:06:08.66 But before we get to the phone lines, 00:06:08.66\00:06:10.13 we always like to begin with prayer. 00:06:10.13\00:06:11.63 So let's do that now. 00:06:11.63\00:06:13.13 Dear Father in heaven, we thank You for Your Word. 00:06:13.13\00:06:15.27 We thank You for the opportunity we have 00:06:15.27\00:06:16.71 to be able to study together, 00:06:16.71\00:06:18.17 and we ask Your blessing upon those who are listening 00:06:18.17\00:06:20.34 wherever they might be, 00:06:20.34\00:06:21.54 and be with us here in the studio 00:06:21.54\00:06:23.08 as we open up Your Word and we ask this in Jesus name. Amen. 00:06:23.08\00:06:26.48 - Amen. 00:06:26.48\00:06:27.75 - Well, we're ready to go to our first phone, 00:06:27.75\00:06:29.85 our first caller, Pastor Doug. 00:06:29.85\00:06:31.09 We've got Anthony listening in New York. 00:06:31.09\00:06:33.05 Anthony, welcome to the program. 00:06:33.05\00:06:34.69 - [Anthony] Hello, good evening, pastors. 00:06:34.69\00:06:36.26 - Evening. 00:06:36.26\00:06:37.13 - [Anthony] Matthew chapter, I believe it is Matthew 27:53. 00:06:38.59\00:06:43.57 It says verse 52, 00:06:45.57\00:06:49.27 this has to do with the resurrection 00:06:49.27\00:06:51.64 of the death of Christ and it says, 00:06:51.64\00:06:53.71 "And the graves were open and many bodies of the saints, 00:06:53.71\00:06:57.15 which slept arose." 00:06:57.15\00:06:59.05 And verse 53 says, "and came out of the graves 00:06:59.05\00:07:02.08 after His resurrection and went into the holy city 00:07:02.08\00:07:05.12 and appeared unto many." 00:07:05.12\00:07:06.89 My question is actually related to Revelation chapter 14, 00:07:06.89\00:07:10.49 where it talks about the 144,000. 00:07:10.49\00:07:13.13 So as I read versus one through four, 00:07:14.30\00:07:17.07 it seems to allude to the 144,000 00:07:17.07\00:07:21.07 in being a number from the past, 00:07:21.07\00:07:22.94 especially when it says, 00:07:22.94\00:07:24.17 "That it's the first fruits of Christ." 00:07:24.17\00:07:27.88 Could the saints that were raised at the crucifixion 00:07:27.88\00:07:31.88 and resurrection of, oh, at the resurrection of Christ, 00:07:31.88\00:07:34.65 be part of, or be that 144,000, 00:07:34.65\00:07:37.79 or are we only looking towards the future? 00:07:37.79\00:07:40.76 - Well, I think the whole key to understanding the 144,000, 00:07:42.22\00:07:46.26 and I'm more convinced of that today than I was yesterday, 00:07:46.26\00:07:49.30 because I read about it again this morning 00:07:49.30\00:07:51.63 is that the number really denotes 00:07:51.63\00:07:54.90 a leadership among God's people. 00:07:54.90\00:07:58.34 So first fruits doesn't always mean sequential. 00:07:58.34\00:08:00.58 First fruits can mean from like the 12 apostles 00:08:00.58\00:08:04.35 were a type of first fruits for Jesus. 00:08:04.35\00:08:06.88 And you read in the Old Testament, 00:08:06.88\00:08:08.42 I just got done reading where David had an army of 288,000 00:08:08.42\00:08:12.59 that would rotate and that's two times 144,000. 00:08:12.59\00:08:16.76 I think there was six months 00:08:16.76\00:08:17.96 they each would be kinda on duty and off duty 00:08:17.96\00:08:19.76 so they could take care of their homes and farms. 00:08:19.76\00:08:21.83 So it's two sets of 144,000. 00:08:21.83\00:08:24.60 And then you can read, there was 288 people 00:08:24.60\00:08:28.17 that ministered in the sanctuary. 00:08:28.17\00:08:29.64 It again, they had by day by night, 00:08:29.64\00:08:31.64 there's 12 hours in the day, 12 at night, it's 144,000, 00:08:31.64\00:08:35.54 144,000. 00:08:35.54\00:08:36.38 But their leaders, this is His army, it's His priesthood. 00:08:37.78\00:08:41.62 And so I think the 144,000, when it says, "First fruits", 00:08:41.62\00:08:44.72 it's not talking about 144,000 00:08:44.72\00:08:47.86 that were resurrected at the crucifixion of Christ. 00:08:47.86\00:08:51.56 I think it's still speaking at the time it was written. 00:08:51.56\00:08:53.83 It's looking forward to a group near the end of time. 00:08:53.83\00:08:57.87 So I have a book, we have a free book. 00:08:57.87\00:09:00.20 We'll be happy to send you a copy, 00:09:00.20\00:09:02.07 where it reviews that, 00:09:02.07\00:09:04.11 and or anyone that wants to know it's about 144,000. 00:09:04.11\00:09:08.14 - If you'd like receive the book, 00:09:08.14\00:09:09.64 all you need to do is call our resource phone line. 00:09:09.64\00:09:11.31 That's 800-835-6747. 00:09:11.31\00:09:14.42 You can ask for the book called "The 144,000", 00:09:14.42\00:09:17.79 and we'll be happy to send it to whoever calls. 00:09:17.79\00:09:19.95 You know, pastor the actual title of the book. 00:09:19.95\00:09:21.89 I'm looking for it here, "Who Shall Sing the Song." 00:09:21.89\00:09:24.63 I believe it's entitled talking about the 144,000, 00:09:24.63\00:09:27.50 and that is free to anyone in north America. 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.70 Again, just call 800-835-6747, we'll send that to you. 00:09:29.70\00:09:34.70 Our next caller that we have is Wesley 00:09:35.87\00:09:36.94 listening from California. 00:09:36.94\00:09:38.87 Wesley, welcome to the program. 00:09:38.87\00:09:40.41 - [Wesley] Yes, thank you. 00:09:41.41\00:09:42.88 My questions basically, should we move now to the country 00:09:42.88\00:09:47.18 so we can avoid buying and selling, 00:09:47.18\00:09:50.19 and being stuck with a mark of the beast? 00:09:50.19\00:09:54.62 - All right, well, let's look at that. 00:09:54.62\00:09:56.96 First, let me read that for our friends that are listening, 00:09:56.96\00:09:59.39 it says that part of the persecution of the beast 00:09:59.39\00:10:02.20 in the last days, it says, 00:10:02.20\00:10:03.26 "That no one might buy or sell, 00:10:03.26\00:10:06.00 except he who has the mark or the number of the beast, 00:10:06.00\00:10:08.57 or the number of his name." 00:10:08.57\00:10:10.31 And it really shouldn't shock anybody 00:10:10.31\00:10:12.41 that one of the things the devil's gonna use 00:10:12.41\00:10:14.08 in the last days is gonna be economic sanctions. 00:10:14.08\00:10:16.78 I mean, you can turn the page in the news right now, 00:10:16.78\00:10:20.08 and it's talking about economic sanctions, 00:10:20.08\00:10:22.02 that of governments against Russia and other governments 00:10:22.02\00:10:26.65 if they're not complying with international norms. 00:10:26.65\00:10:30.33 We are also saw just in Canada, there were some protesters, 00:10:32.09\00:10:35.76 a truckers protest, and anyone that was arrested, 00:10:35.76\00:10:39.97 I think they had their bank accounts frozen. 00:10:39.97\00:10:42.67 And that's kind of unnerving 00:10:42.67\00:10:43.97 to think that everything is digital now. 00:10:43.97\00:10:46.74 And it's so easy for the governments 00:10:46.74\00:10:49.11 to monitor a person's buying and selling 00:10:49.11\00:10:52.85 that I don't think anyone is shocked to hear 00:10:52.85\00:10:55.45 that the beast power in the last days 00:10:55.45\00:10:57.22 will use some sort of economic sanctions 00:10:57.22\00:10:59.62 on those that do not worship appropriately. 00:10:59.62\00:11:03.49 Now, because you may not be able to buy or sell, 00:11:03.49\00:11:06.13 people are thinking, "Well, we don't know when that is, 00:11:06.13\00:11:07.86 should I run to the hill, 00:11:07.86\00:11:09.13 start planting a garden so that I don't starve?" 00:11:09.13\00:11:11.20 I don't think I would react for that reason 00:11:11.20\00:11:13.90 because people who read these verses 50 years ago, 00:11:15.34\00:11:18.14 or 100 years ago, they could have said, 00:11:18.14\00:11:20.04 "We're gonna run to the Hills and grow our own food." 00:11:20.04\00:11:23.78 There's advantages to country living. 00:11:23.78\00:11:25.58 But I would not move to the country 00:11:25.58\00:11:27.25 because of Revelation 13. 00:11:27.25\00:11:29.75 I think when things get that bad, 00:11:29.75\00:11:31.65 God has always fed His people in those times of trouble. 00:11:31.65\00:11:36.09 So are there good reasons to move it to the country? Yes. 00:11:36.09\00:11:39.86 Should we do it because the day's coming 00:11:40.96\00:11:42.46 when you can't buy or sell? 00:11:42.46\00:11:45.47 Well, I think there'd be advantages to that, 00:11:45.47\00:11:47.97 but I wouldn't make that your first consideration. 00:11:47.97\00:11:51.41 So, you know, I've got a book on that, 00:11:51.41\00:11:53.27 and it's talks about heading to the Hills, 00:11:53.27\00:11:57.31 and some beginners guide to country living. 00:11:57.31\00:11:59.85 So you could go to Amazing Facts. 00:11:59.85\00:12:01.75 And I wrote a little book on country living 00:12:01.75\00:12:03.32 and great benefits. 00:12:03.32\00:12:06.29 But if everybody, if all the Christians 00:12:06.29\00:12:08.39 run to the Hills right now, 00:12:08.39\00:12:09.79 who's gonna do evangelism? 00:12:09.79\00:12:11.73 - You know pastor, talking about country living. 00:12:11.73\00:12:14.00 I think you also have a video. 00:12:14.00\00:12:15.43 I was just watching it the other day, of country living. 00:12:15.43\00:12:18.33 Of course, you've got a place in the country 00:12:18.33\00:12:19.83 and you spent quite a while cutting wood. 00:12:19.83\00:12:23.14 And actually before you went into full time ministry 00:12:23.14\00:12:25.51 and you were selling firewood, 00:12:25.51\00:12:27.21 so you spent a lot of time up in the hills, 00:12:27.21\00:12:29.28 in the mountains and quads- 00:12:29.28\00:12:31.35 - Well, you've been there, it's pretty far out, isn't it? 00:12:31.35\00:12:32.58 - It's pretty neat, yeah, it's out there. 00:12:32.58\00:12:34.18 - Far out, I mean, it is way off the grid. 00:12:34.18\00:12:36.45 - So that is a great video. 00:12:36.45\00:12:37.79 I think it's available on YouTube. 00:12:37.79\00:12:39.29 - Yeah, just go to Doug Batchelor Country Living. 00:12:39.29\00:12:41.09 I'm sure it'll pop up. 00:12:41.09\00:12:42.56 - Yeah, all right, well, thanks for your call Wesley. 00:12:42.56\00:12:44.09 We've got Lonnie listening in Arizona. 00:12:44.09\00:12:46.43 Lonnie, welcome to the program. 00:12:46.43\00:12:48.66 - [Lonnie] Everyone's always afraid of what's gonna happen 00:12:48.66\00:12:50.53 at the judgment seat of Christ. 00:12:50.53\00:12:52.53 And again, if you've died in Christ, 00:12:53.70\00:12:55.20 then you know that your name is in the book of life, 00:12:55.20\00:12:57.91 and all of that and that our sins are washed away. 00:12:57.91\00:13:00.94 You know, as of Isaiah 1:18, 00:13:00.94\00:13:05.35 but my question really is, 00:13:06.65\00:13:09.05 do our dirty laundry and I've heard you say this 00:13:09.05\00:13:11.39 in some of your sermons, 00:13:11.39\00:13:14.19 that it's basically about rewards, 00:13:14.19\00:13:16.96 which I know the both of you gonna embellish on. 00:13:16.96\00:13:19.26 And the thing is that the good and the bad deeds 00:13:19.26\00:13:22.53 they're gonna be aired, but to whom? 00:13:22.53\00:13:25.43 - Well, I think that if you have repented of 00:13:25.43\00:13:28.57 and confessed your sins, 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.31 they are under the blood of the lamb, 00:13:30.31\00:13:32.74 and the Lord will protect us. 00:13:32.74\00:13:35.31 God is not wanting to out us. 00:13:35.31\00:13:37.61 You know, it was Judas 00:13:38.58\00:13:40.35 who finally turned away from the Lord, 00:13:40.35\00:13:43.45 his sins of stealing and everything were made manifest. 00:13:43.45\00:13:47.59 But I think the Lord is looking to protect 00:13:47.59\00:13:51.09 and to wash away and treat as innocent 00:13:51.09\00:13:53.09 those that repent of and confess and turn from their sins. 00:13:53.09\00:13:57.03 He's not, they don't come before them into judgment 00:13:57.03\00:14:00.87 because Jesus is really being judged for those things. 00:14:00.87\00:14:04.57 - And you know, 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.04 there's two things being blotted out of the books of record. 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.04 If you're a believer, but you turn away from God, 00:14:08.04\00:14:12.28 then your name gets blotted out of the lambs book of life. 00:14:12.28\00:14:14.72 But if you're a believer and you remain faithful to God, 00:14:14.72\00:14:17.65 then your sins get blotted out. 00:14:17.65\00:14:19.19 Or at least to the book of sin in heaven. 00:14:19.19\00:14:20.66 And that's a good thing. 00:14:20.66\00:14:22.19 So when we are forgiven at the end of that judgment, 00:14:22.19\00:14:24.43 the sins all cleanse the book, so to speak are cleansed, 00:14:24.43\00:14:27.30 the record of sins removed. 00:14:27.30\00:14:28.60 So that's good news. 00:14:28.60\00:14:29.96 No one's gonna be up there in heaven 00:14:29.96\00:14:31.20 during the thousand years, you know, 00:14:31.20\00:14:32.53 thumbing through the book and saying, 00:14:32.53\00:14:33.87 "Oh, look what he did, oh, look what she did." 00:14:33.87\00:14:36.27 No, the sins of the righteous they're blotted out. 00:14:36.27\00:14:38.67 - That's why you've got that robe of righteousness. 00:14:38.67\00:14:41.14 It's a covering. 00:14:41.14\00:14:42.31 - That's right, absolutely, very good. 00:14:42.31\00:14:43.35 - Thank you, good question. 00:14:43.35\00:14:44.55 - We've got Caleb listening from New York. 00:14:44.55\00:14:46.92 Caleb, welcome to the program. 00:14:46.92\00:14:48.42 - [Caleb] Hello, thank you, Pastor Doug 00:14:49.52\00:14:50.99 and Pastor Ross. 00:14:50.99\00:14:52.09 How you guys doing? 00:14:52.09\00:14:53.09 - Good. 00:14:53.09\00:14:53.92 - [Caleb] Oh, by the way, Pastor Doug, 00:14:55.09\00:14:56.66 I love your sermon on Saturday on Sampson. 00:14:56.66\00:15:00.46 - Oh, praise the Lord. 00:15:00.46\00:15:01.50 Glad you enjoyed that. 00:15:02.50\00:15:03.60 - [Calab] My question is for you is 00:15:04.73\00:15:07.30 I'm going through a lot of problems right now, 00:15:09.40\00:15:12.41 like mentally and stuff like that. 00:15:12.41\00:15:14.84 I haven't been praying and spending time on the Bible. 00:15:14.84\00:15:19.85 And am I like, what can I do to get back? 00:15:21.02\00:15:25.82 Or am I already doing like, 00:15:26.69\00:15:29.02 oh, God's Spirit has left me. 00:15:29.02\00:15:30.69 Is that why I'm not like, you know- 00:15:30.69\00:15:34.56 - Well, first of all, 00:15:34.56\00:15:35.66 don't think that you're doomed. 00:15:35.66\00:15:37.97 You probably wouldn't be calling if you were doomed. 00:15:37.97\00:15:39.90 The Holy Spirit's still working with you. 00:15:39.90\00:15:41.80 Every believer has ups and downs. 00:15:41.80\00:15:45.47 You know, life has ups and downs. 00:15:45.47\00:15:47.68 The weather has ups and downs. 00:15:47.68\00:15:49.18 There are days the sun is shining through 00:15:49.18\00:15:50.91 and there are days that the clouds obscure the sun. 00:15:50.91\00:15:53.38 The sun is still there, 00:15:53.38\00:15:55.18 but the earth rotates and the sun is hidden 00:15:55.18\00:15:57.22 and the storms come and the sun is hidden, 00:15:57.22\00:15:59.22 but the sun is still there. 00:15:59.22\00:16:00.62 God, He loves you and it's consistent. 00:16:00.62\00:16:04.53 You can make a decision to love the Lord and say, 00:16:04.53\00:16:06.66 "I'm committing myself to the Lord." 00:16:06.66\00:16:08.16 That doesn't mean there aren't gonna be ups and downs. 00:16:08.16\00:16:10.90 When you get married, 00:16:10.90\00:16:12.13 you make a covenant, you make a commitment, 00:16:12.13\00:16:13.64 there're gonna be ups and downs in your marriage, 00:16:13.64\00:16:16.77 but you're still, 00:16:16.77\00:16:18.24 you've got that unconditional love and that commitment. 00:16:18.24\00:16:20.74 And so, yeah, don't be discouraged. 00:16:20.74\00:16:23.45 Now, you may need to rediscover that first love. 00:16:23.45\00:16:27.25 There may be things you need to do to reignite your faith 00:16:27.25\00:16:30.72 and faithfulness, spend time in prayer, repent of your sins, 00:16:30.72\00:16:35.72 you know, repent and turn from your sins, 00:16:36.93\00:16:38.69 ask the Lord for His grace and as soon as you do that, 00:16:38.69\00:16:41.93 He'll send the refreshing of His Spirit again. 00:16:41.93\00:16:44.73 So, and every believer may have to do that a thousand times 00:16:44.73\00:16:48.90 or more in their experience 00:16:48.90\00:16:51.61 that we often seem to sometimes go through ups and downs. 00:16:51.61\00:16:55.41 There are highs and lows. 00:16:55.41\00:16:56.98 That's just part of life. 00:16:56.98\00:16:58.21 It's also part of the Christian life. 00:16:58.21\00:16:59.68 Do not think it means that God has abandoned you. 00:16:59.68\00:17:02.38 - You know, the Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:6, 00:17:03.79\00:17:06.12 "That we walk by faith, not by sight." 00:17:06.12\00:17:09.59 So what that means 00:17:09.59\00:17:10.79 is you might not always feel a certain way. 00:17:10.79\00:17:12.49 Doesn't mean God is abandoned you, 00:17:12.49\00:17:14.36 but we walk by faith trusting in His word. 00:17:14.36\00:17:16.73 Even if you don't necessarily feel any different 00:17:16.73\00:17:19.37 or feel differently, we take God at His word. 00:17:19.37\00:17:22.20 - That's right, amen. 00:17:22.20\00:17:23.44 - Okay, next caller that we have is Connor 00:17:23.44\00:17:24.57 listening from Colorado. 00:17:24.57\00:17:25.91 Connor, welcome to the program. 00:17:25.91\00:17:27.48 - [Connor] Hello pastors, how are you guys doing? 00:17:28.91\00:17:30.88 - Good, thanks for calling. 00:17:30.88\00:17:32.95 - [Connor] Thank you, my question is 00:17:34.08\00:17:35.85 kind of similar to the last one, 00:17:35.85\00:17:37.22 but I was just wondering how a person would know 00:17:37.22\00:17:40.42 if they've committed the unpardonable sin? 00:17:40.42\00:17:42.52 - All right, first, when we hang up request the free book, 00:17:43.96\00:17:48.16 we'll send you a book on that. 00:17:48.16\00:17:49.30 We get this question a lot. 00:17:49.30\00:17:51.27 And you know, one of the most frightening things 00:17:51.27\00:17:54.60 that Jesus said is that 00:17:54.60\00:17:56.60 "All manner of sin and blaspheme can be forgiven, 00:17:56.60\00:17:59.21 but he that sins against the Holy Spirit, 00:17:59.21\00:18:01.44 or blasphemes the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven." 00:18:01.44\00:18:04.88 And people go, "Wow, there is an unforgivable sin. 00:18:04.88\00:18:07.95 I wonder if I've committed that sin?" 00:18:07.95\00:18:10.02 And 99.99% of the people that worry about that have not. 00:18:10.02\00:18:15.02 Of course, no one knows the heart, but God, 00:18:16.16\00:18:17.56 but sometimes we're convicted by the Holy Spirit 00:18:17.56\00:18:22.30 to turn from our sins. 00:18:23.30\00:18:24.53 We think, "Well, maybe I've gone too far." 00:18:24.53\00:18:26.20 The devil often wants us to think we've gone too far. 00:18:26.20\00:18:29.74 There's a story in the book of Zachariah, 00:18:29.74\00:18:31.47 I believe it's chapter three, 00:18:31.47\00:18:33.27 where the high priest is wearing filthy garments, 00:18:33.27\00:18:35.31 and the devil is there accusing, 00:18:35.31\00:18:37.48 he's basically saying, you know, 00:18:37.48\00:18:38.75 "he can't be saved, he's gone too far." 00:18:38.75\00:18:40.78 When Michael comes to resurrect Moses, 00:18:40.78\00:18:43.59 the devil is there saying, "Oh, Moses sinned, 00:18:43.59\00:18:45.62 you can't take him to heaven." 00:18:45.62\00:18:47.32 So the devil is the accuser of the brethren. 00:18:47.32\00:18:49.49 He often wants us to think we've gone too far. 00:18:49.49\00:18:51.83 If we're willing to repent and turn to God, 00:18:53.09\00:18:55.76 God is willing to forgive. 00:18:55.76\00:18:57.17 Grieving away the Holy Spirit 00:18:57.17\00:18:58.87 is not something that happens 00:18:58.87\00:19:00.17 through usually one particular sin, 00:19:00.17\00:19:02.64 but it's a process of years of rejection of God's Spirit. 00:19:02.64\00:19:07.08 So that the volume of the Holy Spirit goes down 00:19:07.08\00:19:09.71 where we just don't even hear it anymore. 00:19:09.71\00:19:12.28 Examples of those who committed the unpardonable sin 00:19:12.28\00:19:14.58 in the Bible would be Balaam, King Saul, Judas. 00:19:14.58\00:19:18.89 I mean, they just, they you know, Judas, 00:19:18.89\00:19:21.69 what do you call it? 00:19:21.69\00:19:23.22 The Saul went to a witch and God stopped speaking to him, 00:19:23.22\00:19:25.43 but it was 40 years of rebellion that preceded that. 00:19:25.43\00:19:28.90 And it was three and a half years of Judas 00:19:30.20\00:19:32.37 sinning in the face of God's own son teaching. 00:19:32.37\00:19:35.77 God is very patient. 00:19:35.77\00:19:37.27 So don't be discouraged and do send for that free book 00:19:37.27\00:19:39.54 about what is the unpardonable sin. 00:19:39.54\00:19:42.04 - You know, we also have a book pastor, 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.24 that our previous caller, 00:19:43.24\00:19:44.65 we probably should have mentioned it at that point too. 00:19:44.65\00:19:46.08 It's called "12 Steps to Revival." 00:19:46.08\00:19:48.42 Talking about how do you rekindle that love for God, 00:19:48.42\00:19:50.85 that first faith and we'll be happy to send that as well. 00:19:50.85\00:19:53.15 If you'd like to receive either of these books 00:19:53.15\00:19:55.06 or both of them, the number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:19:55.06\00:19:59.36 You can ask for the book, "What is the Unpardonable Sin?" 00:19:59.36\00:20:02.20 You can also ask for the book, "12 Steps to Revival." 00:20:02.20\00:20:05.33 And if your north America will be happy to send it to you. 00:20:05.33\00:20:08.44 Next caller that we have is Andrew listening in Kansas. 00:20:08.44\00:20:11.57 Andrew, welcome to the program. 00:20:11.57\00:20:13.11 - [Andrew] Hi Doug. Hi Ross. 00:20:14.78\00:20:17.08 How are you guys doing? 00:20:17.08\00:20:18.01 - Good, thank you for calling. 00:20:18.01\00:20:19.45 - [Andrew] My question is, God is only one God 00:20:20.62\00:20:23.15 and I got brought this question 00:20:23.15\00:20:25.69 and I don't know how to answer it. 00:20:25.69\00:20:27.59 And so God the Son is our God too. 00:20:27.59\00:20:30.99 So they're trying to tell me that there's two gods. 00:20:30.99\00:20:35.13 - Yeah, I know people get, 00:20:35.13\00:20:37.37 that's a common and a normal misunderstanding. 00:20:37.37\00:20:42.07 When it tells us in the book of Deuteronomy chapter six, 00:20:42.07\00:20:45.81 "Hear O Israel, the Lord God is one." 00:20:45.81\00:20:48.61 And the Bible says several times, 00:20:48.61\00:20:49.88 "There is one God." 00:20:49.88\00:20:51.91 In the Hebrew mind, the way they use the word one 00:20:51.91\00:20:54.58 is not always talking about numerical quantity. 00:20:54.58\00:20:58.49 It's talking about unity. 00:20:58.49\00:21:00.56 Jesus prayed to the Father and He said in John 17, 00:21:00.56\00:21:03.79 "Father, I pray that they", meaning the 12 apostles, 00:21:03.79\00:21:06.83 "I pray they may be one." 00:21:06.83\00:21:08.93 Well, there's 12 of them, but He wanted them to be united. 00:21:08.93\00:21:11.23 He said, "Father, I pray they may be one 00:21:11.23\00:21:13.30 even as You and I are one." 00:21:13.30\00:21:16.24 So Jesus was not asking the 12 apostles 00:21:16.24\00:21:18.71 to merge into one person. 00:21:18.71\00:21:20.51 He was asking for them to be of one Spirit, 00:21:20.51\00:21:22.48 to be united as Jesus and the Father and the Spirit 00:21:22.48\00:21:26.08 are united. 00:21:26.08\00:21:27.62 And so all of the pagan religions, many of them anyway, 00:21:27.62\00:21:32.02 they were polytheistic, they had many gods. 00:21:32.02\00:21:35.49 The God of the Bible, it's a one united God. 00:21:35.49\00:21:39.63 And so that God, in the beginning, God says, 00:21:39.63\00:21:42.10 "Let Us make man in Our image." 00:21:42.10\00:21:45.30 It's plural. 00:21:45.30\00:21:46.77 So right from the beginning of the Bible, 00:21:46.77\00:21:48.27 we know that God is composed of a united God, 00:21:48.27\00:21:51.91 meaning one in the Spirit, in unity and purpose. 00:21:51.91\00:21:56.75 And it's, I know it's somewhat mysterious, 00:21:56.75\00:21:58.68 but it's composed of three unique persons. 00:21:58.68\00:22:01.48 God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 00:22:01.48\00:22:04.02 And we have a book we can send you on that. 00:22:04.02\00:22:05.82 That deals with "One God or Three, is the Trinity Biblical?" 00:22:05.82\00:22:09.86 - The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:22:09.86\00:22:12.96 You can ask for the book it's called "One God or Three?" 00:22:12.96\00:22:16.06 What is the Bible teach about the Trinity? 00:22:16.06\00:22:18.10 Of course, the word Trinity, pastor not found in the Bible, 00:22:18.10\00:22:20.57 but the idea of the three members of the Godhead, 00:22:20.57\00:22:24.34 the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that is very biblical, 00:22:24.34\00:22:26.57 and we find that throughout scripture. 00:22:26.57\00:22:28.44 So be sure to call and ask for that book. 00:22:28.44\00:22:30.11 You will be blessed. 00:22:30.11\00:22:31.65 Next caller that we have is Linda listening in Missouri. 00:22:31.65\00:22:34.32 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:22:34.32\00:22:35.82 - [Linda] Praise God. 00:22:37.22\00:22:38.62 I just first before asking my question, 00:22:38.62\00:22:40.69 I just wanted to let you know that both you, Doug and Jean, 00:22:40.69\00:22:44.09 that because of you guys, 00:22:44.09\00:22:46.56 you're both gonna have an extra crown, 00:22:46.56\00:22:48.40 or extra star on your crown 00:22:48.40\00:22:50.20 because you guys both lead me to Christ, 00:22:50.20\00:22:54.04 and the fullness of everything. 00:22:54.04\00:22:56.67 And I just wanted to thank you both on that. 00:22:56.67\00:22:59.77 My question is about the Amplified Bible. 00:22:59.77\00:23:02.88 And what do you think about it, 00:23:02.88\00:23:04.81 is for a good main Bible or a study Bible? 00:23:04.81\00:23:09.45 - Yeah, for our friends that are listening, 00:23:09.45\00:23:11.65 the Amplified Bible is a Bible 00:23:11.65\00:23:13.62 that and correct me if I'm wrong, Linda, 00:23:13.62\00:23:15.69 but I think it's, 00:23:15.69\00:23:16.62 you're talking about the Bible 00:23:16.62\00:23:17.43 that's got a verse, 00:23:17.43\00:23:18.89 but it'll have like four translations of each verse. 00:23:18.89\00:23:21.63 - [Linda] Yeah, it says, 00:23:23.83\00:23:25.50 "For the behind the original Greek and Hebrew." 00:23:25.50\00:23:28.94 - Yeah, well, I guess there's a few Amplified Bibles, 00:23:28.94\00:23:31.61 but the one I'm thinking of 00:23:31.61\00:23:33.21 as it goes through the different verses, 00:23:33.21\00:23:34.84 you'll see each verse 00:23:34.84\00:23:36.44 will have different versions of that verse. 00:23:36.44\00:23:39.95 So you can amplify each verse a little more 00:23:39.95\00:23:42.45 and it shows you some, yes, 00:23:42.45\00:23:43.79 some expound more on the Greek and the Hebrew, 00:23:43.79\00:23:45.69 but it's a great study Bible. 00:23:45.69\00:23:48.59 So if you want to dig deeper into each verse 00:23:48.59\00:23:51.49 and look at it through the eyes of different translators 00:23:51.49\00:23:54.03 to get little nuances, 00:23:54.03\00:23:55.36 most of 'em say exactly the same thing, 00:23:55.36\00:23:57.70 but you often get little nuances and insights 00:23:57.70\00:24:00.20 through different words. 00:24:00.20\00:24:01.17 It expands your understanding. 00:24:01.17\00:24:03.14 Nothing wrong with looking at the Amplified Bible 00:24:03.14\00:24:06.07 as a study Bible. 00:24:06.07\00:24:07.61 - Well, you know, I think there's also an Amplified Bible, 00:24:07.61\00:24:10.15 if I'm not mistaken, which is a paraphrase 00:24:10.15\00:24:13.05 where they will take an English version, 00:24:13.05\00:24:14.62 and they'll confer with the Greek and Hebrew, 00:24:14.62\00:24:16.48 but they'll take an English Bible, 00:24:16.48\00:24:18.75 and they would they'll write the verse 00:24:18.75\00:24:20.19 using different words and maybe expand on different ideas. 00:24:20.19\00:24:23.86 So there is a difference between an actual translation 00:24:23.86\00:24:27.73 and a paraphrase. 00:24:27.73\00:24:28.93 So we just wanna be aware of that. 00:24:28.93\00:24:30.57 Translation is a direct translation of the original 00:24:30.57\00:24:33.40 text. Sometimes the word order is change just a little, 00:24:33.40\00:24:35.97 but a paraphrase is somebody adding some flavor, 00:24:35.97\00:24:39.57 you might say, or an angle or perspective, 00:24:39.57\00:24:41.81 or putting it in different language 00:24:41.81\00:24:43.81 for people to understand. 00:24:43.81\00:24:45.08 - [Linda] That definitely helps me so much. 00:24:46.88\00:24:49.35 Thank you very much. 00:24:49.35\00:24:50.62 And you two have a wonderful evening. 00:24:50.62\00:24:52.89 - All right, God bless. 00:24:52.89\00:24:53.72 Thank you. 00:24:53.72\00:24:54.92 - Next caller that we have is Pat 00:24:54.92\00:24:56.49 listening in Colorado. 00:24:56.49\00:24:57.93 Pat, welcome to the program. 00:24:57.93\00:24:59.39 - [Pat] Thank you very much. 00:25:00.63\00:25:02.43 My question is, Jesus is called the first born of God. 00:25:02.43\00:25:07.44 And why is Jesus called the first born of God 00:25:08.60\00:25:11.87 before He was born human on earth? 00:25:11.87\00:25:14.91 - Where are you talking about? 00:25:15.91\00:25:17.05 What verse? 00:25:17.05\00:25:17.88 - [Linda] I didn't get the verse written down. 00:25:19.71\00:25:23.25 It's always said, 00:25:23.25\00:25:24.39 "Jesus is the first born of God 00:25:24.39\00:25:26.82 and we're adopted into the family of God. 00:25:26.82\00:25:30.46 - Right, well, Jesus is the, 00:25:30.46\00:25:31.96 He's the only begotten Son. 00:25:31.96\00:25:33.26 He is called the first born. 00:25:33.26\00:25:35.00 It's not because He was the first human born. 00:25:35.00\00:25:38.43 You know, of course God made man in His own image, 00:25:39.87\00:25:41.74 but the only time that God became a human was in Christ. 00:25:41.74\00:25:46.74 And so, you know, He has preeminence because of that. 00:25:48.68\00:25:51.45 In the book of Hebrews also tells us. 00:25:51.45\00:25:53.72 But again, I don't think that it's talking about 00:25:53.72\00:25:57.19 the first born as in sequence. 00:25:57.19\00:25:59.25 Now, when you talk about, 00:25:59.25\00:26:00.72 well, let me back up and correct myself. 00:26:00.72\00:26:03.26 In the Hebrew, 00:26:04.46\00:26:05.96 the first born son had a special inheritance right, 00:26:05.96\00:26:09.40 and he was given special privileges. 00:26:09.40\00:26:11.40 In that sense, Jesus spiritually is the first born. 00:26:11.40\00:26:15.17 He receives those special inheritance rights. 00:26:15.17\00:26:17.84 He's the greatest among the son, so to speak. 00:26:17.84\00:26:20.74 But obviously, Jesus wasn't the first time 00:26:20.74\00:26:23.55 that a human was born. 00:26:23.55\00:26:25.68 So I guess we got about 25 seconds till the break, 00:26:25.68\00:26:28.78 Pastor Ross anything you want to add to that? 00:26:28.78\00:26:30.89 - Yes, I mean, 00:26:30.89\00:26:32.12 there is a phrase in the Old Testament 00:26:32.12\00:26:33.66 that seems to indicate or a reference to the first born, 00:26:33.66\00:26:35.42 it's usually messianic and it's pointing to Jesus, 00:26:35.42\00:26:38.09 and the fact that He would come, 00:26:38.09\00:26:39.46 and He would be considered the first born 00:26:39.46\00:26:41.56 in position and rank because it's through Him 00:26:41.56\00:26:43.57 that anyone else is saved. 00:26:43.57\00:26:45.07 - All right, friends, we're gonna take a break. 00:26:46.47\00:26:47.70 We are coming back in just a moment 00:26:47.70\00:26:48.87 with more Bible questions, 00:26:48.87\00:26:50.07 but we have some important messages. 00:26:50.07\00:26:52.51 (upbeat music) 00:26:52.51\00:26:55.34 - [Announcer] Stay tuned, 00:26:55.34\00:26:56.61 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:56.61\00:26:59.68 (upbeat music) 00:26:59.68\00:27:03.05 - [Announcer 2] Can't get enough Amazing Facts Bible study? 00:30:44.64\00:30:47.28 - Well, I can't imagine a case 00:30:48.28\00:30:50.11 where someone would receive the Spirit of God 00:30:50.11\00:30:52.45 without the Holy Spirit. 00:30:52.45\00:30:54.55 So the Holy Spirit is the one. 00:30:54.55\00:30:57.45 And sometimes in King James, it calls it the Holy Ghost, 00:30:57.45\00:31:00.12 the same word we don't, 00:31:00.12\00:31:03.26 today we think of ghost as a, you know, spook or something, 00:31:03.26\00:31:06.70 but it's really the Spirit of God. 00:31:06.70\00:31:09.93 And when it says, "The Spirit of the Lord came on Sampson 00:31:09.93\00:31:12.37 or the Spirit of the Lord came on David, 00:31:12.37\00:31:14.44 or they were baptized in the Holy Spirit", 00:31:14.44\00:31:16.30 the Bible says, "There's one Lord, one faith, one Spirit." 00:31:16.30\00:31:20.34 And so it would be the same. 00:31:20.34\00:31:22.04 - [Damon] So like, when it says like the breath, 00:31:23.85\00:31:25.71 like when it, for instance, 00:31:25.71\00:31:26.92 when it says, "God breathes the Spirit", 00:31:26.92\00:31:28.92 which is like the ruach, the breath. 00:31:28.92\00:31:32.02 - Oh, now I see what you're talking about now. 00:31:32.02\00:31:34.79 Now that is a little different, you know, 00:31:34.79\00:31:37.56 when it's talking about the breath of life 00:31:37.56\00:31:41.06 that is talking about the air of life, 00:31:41.06\00:31:44.40 and of course it's even there, 00:31:44.40\00:31:45.90 it's the Spirit of God that is infused in a person. 00:31:45.90\00:31:48.57 But the word really is breath like when you breathe. 00:31:48.57\00:31:51.61 And when it tells us in Genesis, "God breathe into Adam." 00:31:51.61\00:31:54.91 And that word in Hebrew is ruach, 00:31:54.91\00:31:57.01 in Greek it's the word pneuma, 00:31:57.01\00:31:58.41 which is where we get pneumatic tools, 00:31:58.41\00:32:00.42 tools that run on air, 00:32:00.42\00:32:01.98 or pneumonia, it's a sickness of the air or the breathing. 00:32:01.98\00:32:06.25 So that's the word pneuma, 00:32:07.59\00:32:09.22 that's talking about the wind or the air. 00:32:09.22\00:32:12.33 And sometimes that's interchangeable with the word 00:32:12.33\00:32:16.10 spirit. It depends on the context. 00:32:16.10\00:32:17.97 - You know, these different symbols 00:32:17.97\00:32:19.20 used for the Holy Spirit in the Bible. 00:32:19.20\00:32:20.40 You have wind, as you mentioned, pastor. 00:32:20.40\00:32:22.17 Also, fire is a symbol of the Holy Spirit at times. 00:32:22.17\00:32:25.64 And then also water can symbolize the Holy Spirit. 00:32:25.64\00:32:28.81 So you've got these different symbols 00:32:28.81\00:32:30.21 that appear in the Bible. 00:32:30.21\00:32:31.45 But it's illustrating or pointing forward 00:32:31.45\00:32:33.08 to the Holy Spirit. 00:32:33.08\00:32:35.15 - Yeah, we've got a book 00:32:35.15\00:32:36.38 we'd be happy to share with Damon. 00:32:36.38\00:32:37.59 That's dealing with the Holy Spirit 00:32:37.59\00:32:39.25 and it talks about the need of the Holy Spirit. 00:32:39.25\00:32:42.36 And this goes into 00:32:42.36\00:32:43.56 some of the definitions of the spirit there. 00:32:43.56\00:32:45.93 We'll be happy to send you a free copy Damon. 00:32:45.93\00:32:47.93 - The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:32:47.93\00:32:51.40 And again, you can just ask for the book it's called 00:32:51.40\00:32:53.00 "The Holy Spirit, the Need", 00:32:53.00\00:32:54.30 and we'll be happy to send it to you, 00:32:54.30\00:32:56.07 Damon or anyone listening in North America. 00:32:56.07\00:32:59.04 Outside of North America, you can still read it, 00:32:59.04\00:33:01.08 but please go to the website, amazingfacts.org. 00:33:01.08\00:33:05.01 We have Jesus listening in Florida. 00:33:05.01\00:33:07.42 Jesus, welcome to the program. 00:33:07.42\00:33:08.92 - [Jesus] Hello pastors. 00:33:10.15\00:33:11.39 Thank you for taking my answer my question. 00:33:11.39\00:33:13.69 So my question comes from 1 Corinthians 7:12. 00:33:15.89\00:33:20.10 I was doing a little bit of study, 00:33:20.10\00:33:21.70 'cause I've been going along 00:33:21.70\00:33:22.93 with like the yearly Bible study plan 00:33:22.93\00:33:24.77 that you guys have, but I'm a little delayed. 00:33:24.77\00:33:27.04 And the question is pertaining to when it says, 00:33:27.04\00:33:31.54 "But to the rest I not the Lord say 00:33:31.54\00:33:34.94 if any brother has a wife." 00:33:34.94\00:33:36.48 Practically Paul saying that he not the Lord is advising. 00:33:36.48\00:33:41.42 I guess you could say like the Corinthian church. 00:33:45.49\00:33:47.69 I wanted to know what are your guys' thoughts? 00:33:47.69\00:33:50.73 - Yeah, I think Paul is taking a humble approach here. 00:33:50.73\00:33:53.03 He's giving some counsel to the church. 00:33:53.03\00:33:56.03 He's also giving counsel to a particular church 00:33:56.03\00:34:00.50 and he's saying, 00:34:00.50\00:34:02.00 "Look, I'm not giving this to you as a command from God 00:34:02.00\00:34:03.67 but my judgment." 00:34:03.67\00:34:04.94 And Paul actually uses that word other times. 00:34:04.94\00:34:06.41 He says, "In my judgment" and he's disqualifing. 00:34:06.41\00:34:09.98 He said, "This is my judgment." 00:34:09.98\00:34:11.28 Now of course he is an apostle inspired by God. 00:34:11.28\00:34:13.38 So his judgment, he probably underrated his own judgment. 00:34:13.38\00:34:16.69 But yeah, he's talking about this situation. 00:34:17.89\00:34:20.82 If a man's got a woman she doesn't believe, 00:34:20.82\00:34:23.73 and she's willing to stay with her, he's saying, 00:34:23.73\00:34:25.66 "Let her not divorce him." 00:34:25.66\00:34:27.13 Now, this is actually a position of most churches 00:34:27.13\00:34:29.93 that believers should not divorce their unbelieving 00:34:29.93\00:34:34.70 spouses, 'cause marriage is a sacred union. 00:34:34.70\00:34:37.14 And Paul said, "Who knows? 00:34:37.14\00:34:38.77 You might be able to convert your unbelieving spouse." 00:34:38.77\00:34:41.51 Peter reinforces this when he says, 00:34:41.51\00:34:43.58 and I think it's 1 Peter chapter three, 00:34:43.58\00:34:45.28 where he says that "The unbelieving husband can be 00:34:45.28\00:34:50.12 converted by the chaste behavior of the believing wife." 00:34:50.12\00:34:53.42 And so it's a principle 00:34:53.42\00:34:54.82 that I think is a scriptural principle. 00:34:54.82\00:34:57.69 Paul, he seems to approach it with some humility saying, 00:34:57.69\00:35:02.16 "You know, in my opinion." 00:35:02.16\00:35:03.87 Does that help? 00:35:03.87\00:35:04.70 - [Jesus] Yeah, definitely, thank you. 00:35:05.93\00:35:07.14 - Yeah and by the way, we do have a book 00:35:07.14\00:35:08.94 on marriage, divorce and remarriage, 00:35:08.94\00:35:11.17 and we do address this issue in that book. 00:35:11.17\00:35:14.04 - The number to call again is 800-835-6747. 00:35:14.04\00:35:17.51 That is the resource phone line. 00:35:17.51\00:35:19.05 You can ask for the book called 00:35:19.05\00:35:20.48 "Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage", 00:35:20.48\00:35:22.62 and we'll send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:35:22.62\00:35:25.12 We've got Matthew listening in Toronto. 00:35:25.12\00:35:27.19 Matthew, welcome to the program. 00:35:27.19\00:35:28.99 - [Matthew] Hi pastor, thanks for taking my call. 00:35:30.39\00:35:32.53 Based on Genesis one. 00:35:32.53\00:35:34.56 The Bible says, "God made male and female." 00:35:34.56\00:35:37.77 So my question is, 00:35:37.77\00:35:39.77 is it okay for me to change from male to female 00:35:39.77\00:35:44.77 and God still love me and can I be saved in God's kingdom? 00:35:46.21\00:35:48.44 - Well, God, you know, 00:35:49.74\00:35:51.48 people often do sinful things and God is a God of love. 00:35:51.48\00:35:56.48 So the Bible says, 00:35:57.25\00:35:58.52 "What can separate us from the love of God?" 00:35:58.52\00:36:00.39 God loves us. 00:36:00.39\00:36:01.49 Can a person continue in known sin 00:36:01.49\00:36:04.79 whatever that sin is and still be saved? No. 00:36:04.79\00:36:08.03 If we don't repent of our sins, we can't be saved. 00:36:08.03\00:36:10.87 So now then the other question is, 00:36:10.87\00:36:12.90 is it a sin for a person to try to change themselves 00:36:12.90\00:36:16.20 from male to female? 00:36:16.20\00:36:17.57 I believe it is. 00:36:17.57\00:36:19.01 I think the Bible tells us 00:36:19.01\00:36:20.18 that God makes a person for one thing, 00:36:20.18\00:36:22.18 it's biologically impossible. 00:36:22.18\00:36:24.61 It doesn't matter how many procedures 00:36:24.61\00:36:26.18 and chemicals and hormones you receive, 00:36:26.18\00:36:28.08 the differences between men and women 00:36:28.08\00:36:30.19 go all the way to the genetic level. 00:36:30.19\00:36:32.59 And you are born either one or the other. 00:36:32.59\00:36:35.72 I know there are some rare cases 00:36:35.72\00:36:37.16 of people that have some deformities when they're born, 00:36:37.16\00:36:39.59 but the very genes, 00:36:39.59\00:36:42.63 the X and the Y chromosomes in male and female are different 00:36:42.63\00:36:45.73 that cannot be changed. 00:36:45.73\00:36:47.34 You know, I think there was just an interesting ruling 00:36:47.34\00:36:49.20 that was made. 00:36:49.20\00:36:50.37 Everyone was aware in the news, 00:36:50.37\00:36:52.47 how there was a certain male swimmer 00:36:52.47\00:36:55.51 who went through, you know, 00:36:55.51\00:36:57.01 the outward change to try to be transformed into a female. 00:36:57.01\00:37:00.58 And as a male swimmer, he was a mediocre, 00:37:00.58\00:37:03.85 but as a female swimmer, suddenly he began to just, 00:37:03.85\00:37:06.12 you know, break all the records, 00:37:06.12\00:37:07.72 and all the girls began to protest. 00:37:07.72\00:37:09.26 Well, first they were afraid to 00:37:09.26\00:37:10.39 'cause it was politically incorrect 00:37:10.39\00:37:11.63 and he began to protest and said, 00:37:11.63\00:37:13.13 "This just no way we can compete. 00:37:13.13\00:37:15.10 This is not fair. 00:37:15.10\00:37:16.03 He is physiologically a male, 00:37:16.03\00:37:17.67 the surgeries don't change things." 00:37:17.67\00:37:19.33 And now the sports board that governs that department 00:37:19.33\00:37:24.01 has agreed and they said, 00:37:24.01\00:37:25.51 "Someone who has entered puberty as a male, 00:37:25.51\00:37:29.04 they cannot compete as a female." 00:37:29.04\00:37:30.98 Of course, I don't think they should ever at any point. 00:37:30.98\00:37:33.25 But so I'm meandering to answer your question. 00:37:33.25\00:37:36.65 God made them male and female. 00:37:36.65\00:37:38.45 The Lord does not want, 00:37:38.45\00:37:39.95 a male should not dress like a female, the Bible says, 00:37:39.95\00:37:43.09 and that's in Deuteronomy, I think it's 18. 00:37:43.09\00:37:46.06 A male should not dress or maybe it's Deuteronomy 22, 00:37:46.06\00:37:49.66 "A man should not put on a woman's garment 00:37:49.66\00:37:51.63 or a woman put on a man's garment, 00:37:51.63\00:37:53.27 for all that do so are an abomination unto the Lord." 00:37:53.27\00:37:56.14 If God made you a man celebrate how God made you, 00:37:56.14\00:37:59.14 or if He made you a woman be thankful and celebrate 00:37:59.14\00:38:01.84 and live that out, that's God's plan. 00:38:01.84\00:38:04.28 - All right, well, thanks for your call Matthew. 00:38:05.68\00:38:07.28 Next caller that we have is Steve in New York. 00:38:07.28\00:38:10.02 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:38:10.02\00:38:12.22 - [Steve] My question involves Joshua chapter six 00:38:12.22\00:38:15.76 and in Joshua chapter six, the Lord instructs Joshua 00:38:15.76\00:38:18.93 to take the men of war and some priests 00:38:18.93\00:38:21.26 to march around Jericho. 00:38:21.26\00:38:24.07 And they were to do that seven days. 00:38:24.07\00:38:26.37 So my question is one of those seven days 00:38:26.37\00:38:28.74 would've been the Sabbath. 00:38:28.74\00:38:30.87 And I'm just wondering why God would've instructed them 00:38:30.87\00:38:35.31 to march on the Sabbath doing that. 00:38:35.31\00:38:39.81 Or was it again, maybe not common, 00:38:39.81\00:38:43.18 but not unusual for Israel to go into battles 00:38:43.18\00:38:47.19 even when it was the Sabbath day? 00:38:47.19\00:38:50.39 - Yeah. Good question. 00:38:50.39\00:38:51.59 All right, so in the story of Joshua, 00:38:51.59\00:38:53.19 it says, "You're to march around the city six times, 00:38:53.19\00:38:55.76 or a six days, once, 00:38:56.73\00:38:58.00 seventh day, seven times, 00:38:58.00\00:39:00.10 he's not talking about the seventh day of the week. 00:39:00.10\00:39:01.50 He means the seventh day of marching, 00:39:01.50\00:39:03.57 but your point is still good. 00:39:03.57\00:39:05.01 That that would mean if there's seven sequential days 00:39:05.01\00:39:07.48 in marching around Jericho, 00:39:07.48\00:39:08.71 one of those seven must have been the Sabbath. 00:39:08.71\00:39:11.08 Well, if God tells His army to go march around a city 00:39:12.61\00:39:16.79 and blow trumpets, 00:39:16.79\00:39:18.92 that's really just a Sabbath walk and special music. 00:39:18.92\00:39:21.79 There's nothing in there that's really forbidden in itself. 00:39:21.79\00:39:25.26 They're not actually going to war, 00:39:25.26\00:39:27.13 but even among the Israelites, 00:39:27.13\00:39:30.57 if they were attacked by their enemies 00:39:30.57\00:39:32.60 on the Sabbath day, and that happens to modern Israel. 00:39:32.60\00:39:35.04 Several of the wars have been launched by Islamic enemies 00:39:35.04\00:39:39.91 on Friday, thinking that the Jews 00:39:39.91\00:39:42.34 would be the least prepared. 00:39:42.34\00:39:46.38 When Pearl Harbor happened, it was not an accident 00:39:46.38\00:39:49.75 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on a Sunday morning, 00:39:49.75\00:39:53.66 they knew it would be the day of rest 00:39:53.66\00:39:55.29 for the people in the city, 00:39:55.29\00:39:56.93 and that they would be the least prone 00:39:56.93\00:39:58.79 to preparation for fighting. 00:39:58.79\00:40:00.90 But the Jews, as other armies, 00:40:00.90\00:40:03.47 they realize an army needs to be equipped all the time 00:40:03.47\00:40:06.87 and prepared all the time. 00:40:06.87\00:40:08.34 And even the Jews had people who were a Watchman 00:40:08.34\00:40:10.64 in the temple, on the Sabbath. 00:40:10.64\00:40:12.77 So, it's not a sin for a Jewish army or Sabbath keepers 00:40:12.77\00:40:17.78 to defend themselves if they're attacked on the Sabbath day. 00:40:19.18\00:40:22.25 There were some wars that the Jews fought 00:40:22.25\00:40:23.95 that lasted for years and obviously, 00:40:23.95\00:40:27.49 they didn't take every Saturday off. 00:40:27.49\00:40:29.69 So when there's defending the cities. 00:40:29.69\00:40:32.73 - All right, thank you, Steve. 00:40:33.90\00:40:35.73 Next caller that we have is Jesse listening in Colorado. 00:40:35.73\00:40:38.33 Jesse, welcome to the program. 00:40:38.33\00:40:39.80 - [Jesse] Hi. 00:40:41.20\00:40:42.14 - Hi. 00:40:42.14\00:40:42.94 - [Jesse] So my question deals with Revelation 17, 00:40:44.77\00:40:47.68 who is the lady and I have an opinion on it already, 00:40:50.21\00:40:53.28 but I just want to hear what you guys say. 00:40:53.28\00:40:55.25 - Yeah, Revelation 17 00:40:55.25\00:40:56.85 is that chapter that identifies this woman 00:40:56.85\00:40:59.45 who's called, Mystery Babylon the Great, 00:40:59.45\00:41:01.99 the mother of harlots and abomination of the earth. 00:41:01.99\00:41:05.09 Says "That she's got many daughters." 00:41:05.09\00:41:07.30 Well, I think the key to answer that question. 00:41:07.30\00:41:09.16 This is a prophecy that was written by John. 00:41:09.16\00:41:12.00 John is a captive in Rome when he writes the prophecy 00:41:12.00\00:41:15.24 and he says in verse 18, 00:41:15.24\00:41:17.07 that's the last verse in chapter 17. 00:41:17.07\00:41:19.51 "The woman who you saw is that great city 00:41:19.51\00:41:22.18 that reigns over the Kings of the earth." 00:41:22.18\00:41:24.65 What city was raining over the Kings of the earth 00:41:24.65\00:41:27.62 when John wrote Revelation? 00:41:27.62\00:41:29.12 - [Jesse] So I would say Rome, right? 00:41:30.29\00:41:31.99 - Correct. 00:41:31.99\00:41:33.22 So a woman in prophecy is an allegory of what? 00:41:33.22\00:41:35.99 - [Jesse] I have really no clue. 00:41:37.49\00:41:38.69 - Okay, well, the Bible says, 00:41:38.69\00:41:40.20 "Husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church." 00:41:40.20\00:41:42.63 And sometimes God's church has been unfaithful. 00:41:42.63\00:41:45.13 So here you have an unfaithful woman in Rome 00:41:45.13\00:41:48.64 that becomes a very powerful, 00:41:48.64\00:41:50.91 that gets involved in intrigue and adultery 00:41:50.91\00:41:55.08 with the Kings of the earth. 00:41:55.08\00:41:56.71 The only church that can fit this description 00:41:56.71\00:41:59.11 would be the Roman Catholic church. 00:41:59.11\00:42:00.85 And by the way, 00:42:00.85\00:42:02.08 that's not pastor Doug or Pastor Ross. 00:42:02.08\00:42:03.52 This is what was said by Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, 00:42:03.52\00:42:08.09 John Wesley, John Calvin, all the Protestant reformers, 00:42:09.49\00:42:14.00 and many, matter of fact, 00:42:14.83\00:42:17.00 even I think it was even Pope Gregory the Great 00:42:17.00\00:42:19.63 who said, "Any man that calls the office of the Pope 00:42:19.63\00:42:23.54 to be, you know, the head of the church", 00:42:23.54\00:42:25.54 he says, "he is antichrist." 00:42:25.54\00:42:27.94 So yeah, this is identifying the Roman Catholic church 00:42:27.94\00:42:32.95 says, "The woman sits among seven Hills." 00:42:34.12\00:42:35.95 Rome is the city of seven Hills. 00:42:35.95\00:42:38.09 So I think it's pretty clear. 00:42:38.09\00:42:40.02 - You know, we got a study guide called "The Other Woman", 00:42:40.02\00:42:42.26 and it's talking about this description 00:42:42.26\00:42:44.26 we find in Revelation chapter 17. 00:42:44.26\00:42:46.96 We'll be happy to send this to you, 00:42:46.96\00:42:48.10 Jesse or anyone wanting to learn more 00:42:48.10\00:42:49.80 about this very important chapter 00:42:49.80\00:42:52.03 that we find in the last book of the Bible. 00:42:52.03\00:42:54.30 You can just call and ask, 00:42:54.30\00:42:55.40 ask for the study guide. 00:42:55.40\00:42:56.87 It's called, "The Other Woman", it's on Revelation 17. 00:42:56.87\00:42:58.81 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:42:58.81\00:43:02.91 And again, ask for the study guide called "The Other Woman". 00:43:02.91\00:43:06.41 Our next caller that we have is Keith 00:43:06.41\00:43:08.68 listening in Louisiana. 00:43:08.68\00:43:12.42 Keith, welcome to the program. 00:43:12.42\00:43:14.56 - [Keith] Can you explain 1 Peter 3:18-20? 00:43:14.56\00:43:17.63 - It says, "For Christ suffered once for sins, 00:43:23.37\00:43:25.40 the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, 00:43:25.40\00:43:28.37 being put to death in the flesh, 00:43:28.37\00:43:29.87 but made alive by the Spirit, 00:43:29.87\00:43:31.94 by whom", talking about by the Spirit. 00:43:31.94\00:43:33.84 "He also went and preached to the spirits in prison 00:43:33.84\00:43:36.21 who formally were disobedient 00:43:36.21\00:43:38.08 when once the divine long suffering waited 00:43:38.08\00:43:40.22 in the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared." 00:43:40.22\00:43:43.45 It's talking about the divine long suffering. 00:43:43.45\00:43:46.09 It's talking about the spirit. 00:43:46.09\00:43:47.82 Peter is referring back to Genesis chapter six, 00:43:47.82\00:43:51.23 and I think it's verse three where God says, 00:43:51.23\00:43:52.76 "My Spirit will not always strive with man, 00:43:52.76\00:43:56.87 but his days will be 120 years." 00:43:56.87\00:43:59.30 So it was the same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead. 00:43:59.30\00:44:02.94 That spirit strove with unbelievers back in the days of 00:44:02.94\00:44:06.84 Noah and spoke to those who are imprisoned by sin. 00:44:06.84\00:44:10.51 It's not saying that when Jesus died on the cross, 00:44:10.51\00:44:13.18 that He went to a dungeon somewhere 00:44:13.18\00:44:15.08 to give special second chance treatment to people 00:44:15.08\00:44:18.35 that live before the flood. 00:44:18.35\00:44:20.16 And this is, you know what some people have taught, 00:44:20.16\00:44:22.06 but Bible doesn't teach that. 00:44:22.06\00:44:24.83 Is that kind of what you were wondering? 00:44:24.83\00:44:27.60 - [Keith] Yes, sir, yes. 00:44:27.60\00:44:28.86 Especially that part was a bit troubling 00:44:28.86\00:44:31.47 about the spirits in prison. 00:44:32.33\00:44:35.80 So yeah, that does make more sense. 00:44:35.80\00:44:37.97 - The key to understanding that 00:44:37.97\00:44:39.17 is you go to Genesis 6:3. 00:44:39.17\00:44:41.71 God said, "My Spirit will not always strive with man." 00:44:41.71\00:44:44.55 This was written before the flood. 00:44:44.55\00:44:46.31 This is the Spirit, the long suffering of God. 00:44:46.31\00:44:49.18 "For 120 years", it says, "they would have 00:44:49.18\00:44:51.85 from the time that God called Noah until the flood came, 00:44:51.85\00:44:54.92 and God spoke to the spirits in prison", 00:44:54.92\00:44:57.13 by the devil meaning, "in prison by sin." 00:44:57.13\00:44:59.53 - All right. Thanks for call. 00:45:00.96\00:45:02.36 We've got Reasoner listening from North Carolina. 00:45:02.36\00:45:05.07 Reasoner, welcome to the program. 00:45:05.07\00:45:06.97 - [Reasoner] Hey, thanks Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:45:06.97\00:45:09.77 I got two questions. 00:45:10.91\00:45:12.37 First of all, can you read Matthew 5:20 please? 00:45:12.37\00:45:16.51 - All right, you got it, Jean. 00:45:16.51\00:45:18.15 You wanna read it? 00:45:18.15\00:45:19.01 - Yes. 00:45:19.01\00:45:20.52 "For I say to you, unless your righteousness succeeds 00:45:20.52\00:45:21.75 the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, 00:45:21.75\00:45:24.22 you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." 00:45:24.22\00:45:26.76 - [Reasoner] Okay, thanks. 00:45:27.86\00:45:29.09 Now, first question is simply this. 00:45:29.09\00:45:31.93 If Christ were here now, dispensing free education, 00:45:31.93\00:45:35.63 free medicine, free food. 00:45:35.63\00:45:37.53 He fed the crowd for free, His charity and generosity. 00:45:37.53\00:45:41.14 Could you see Him being branded as a socialist? 00:45:41.14\00:45:44.71 That's the first question. 00:45:44.71\00:45:46.88 - Okay, well, no, you know, of course, 00:45:46.88\00:45:49.91 how would He be branded? 00:45:49.91\00:45:51.95 They, everybody branded Jesus pretty poorly. 00:45:51.95\00:45:53.88 Both the legalists and the liberals, 00:45:53.88\00:45:56.99 the Sadducees and the Pharisees didn't care much for Jesus. 00:45:56.99\00:46:00.42 Jesus freely dispensing. 00:46:00.42\00:46:03.59 He was not freely dispensing from a government. 00:46:03.59\00:46:06.66 He was personally freely dispensing. 00:46:06.66\00:46:08.63 He was encouraging believers to dispense, 00:46:08.63\00:46:11.07 not compulsory gifts and taxation. 00:46:11.07\00:46:15.90 In other words, America started out 00:46:15.90\00:46:19.44 where the government depended on the goodness 00:46:19.44\00:46:22.84 and the Christianity of people 00:46:22.84\00:46:24.38 to care for the poor, the hospitals, the orphanages, 00:46:24.38\00:46:27.28 they weren't run by the government. 00:46:27.28\00:46:28.28 They were run by the Christians. 00:46:28.28\00:46:30.35 But as time went by, the government said, 00:46:30.35\00:46:32.05 "Well, we can't trust you to be good. 00:46:32.05\00:46:33.56 So we're gonna take the money from you and we'll run it." 00:46:33.56\00:46:36.29 That's a whole different system 00:46:36.29\00:46:37.59 than what Christ really was setting up. 00:46:37.59\00:46:40.20 - Well, you know, pastor, I'm thinking of another verse. 00:46:40.20\00:46:41.83 It's clear, the Bible does talk about 00:46:41.83\00:46:43.30 our responsibility as believers to help those in need. 00:46:43.30\00:46:46.77 And that is the poor. 00:46:46.77\00:46:48.57 But on the other hand, 00:46:48.57\00:46:49.74 you do find a principle that we read about 00:46:49.74\00:46:51.61 in 2 Thessalonians three, 00:46:51.61\00:46:53.44 this is not the only place, 00:46:53.44\00:46:55.18 but the principle is simply this 00:46:55.18\00:46:56.95 "The one who does not work, shall neither eat." 00:46:56.95\00:47:00.55 In other words, we need to work. 00:47:00.55\00:47:02.45 It's not a good thing for us not to do what we can 00:47:02.45\00:47:05.55 to support ourselves and our family. 00:47:05.55\00:47:07.79 If we claim that we don't wanna work 00:47:07.79\00:47:09.92 and we just want to get handouts, well, we lazy. 00:47:09.92\00:47:13.23 It's contrary to what the Bible says. 00:47:13.23\00:47:14.86 - That's spiritual. 00:47:14.86\00:47:15.80 - So, there is a balance. 00:47:15.80\00:47:16.97 We need to be industrious. 00:47:16.97\00:47:18.07 We need to do our best. 00:47:18.07\00:47:19.53 The Bible says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, 00:47:19.53\00:47:21.20 do it with all your might." 00:47:21.20\00:47:23.14 But there are people that get sick. 00:47:23.14\00:47:25.31 There are people that suffer, need. 00:47:25.31\00:47:27.21 And as believers, we want to be aware of that. 00:47:27.21\00:47:29.38 And we want to help people. 00:47:29.38\00:47:30.98 It's a different structure that you see 00:47:30.98\00:47:32.91 than what's being promoted today 00:47:32.91\00:47:34.48 in different political circles. 00:47:34.48\00:47:36.85 - So you guys, you had two parts to your question. 00:47:36.85\00:47:38.82 What was the second part? 00:47:38.82\00:47:40.26 - [Reasoner] Okay, the second question is simply this, 00:47:40.26\00:47:42.06 the Pharisees were more old line stand pat, traditional, 00:47:42.06\00:47:46.70 staunchity, okay. 00:47:46.70\00:47:48.56 That when Saul got his name changed to Paul, 00:47:48.56\00:47:52.23 did he leave the party of the Pharisees? 00:47:53.37\00:47:57.34 - Well, he must have, 00:47:57.34\00:47:58.31 because I think Paul says, 00:47:58.31\00:47:59.64 "I was a Pharisee of the Pharisees." 00:47:59.64\00:48:02.08 And so he speaks of it in past tense. 00:48:02.08\00:48:04.31 Of course, I don't know if that's by his choice 00:48:05.58\00:48:07.55 or if they evicted him, 00:48:07.55\00:48:08.98 but he considered himself a Pharisee. 00:48:08.98\00:48:11.45 He had to abandon some of the teachings of the Pharisees 00:48:11.45\00:48:14.22 'cause the majority of the Pharisees rejected Jesus. 00:48:14.22\00:48:17.89 - And of course the Pharisees fundamentally 00:48:17.89\00:48:19.69 the theology was righteous by works. 00:48:19.69\00:48:22.76 And so Paul, you know, becomes Paul but he was Saul, 00:48:22.76\00:48:27.30 him being a Pharisee of the Pharisees, 00:48:27.30\00:48:29.07 he was very careful to observe every little tradition 00:48:29.07\00:48:33.27 that was created, trying to be righteous. 00:48:33.27\00:48:35.64 And then of course he discovered the truth of the gospel 00:48:35.64\00:48:37.58 and realized righteous comes by faith in Christ, 00:48:37.58\00:48:39.78 not as a result of works. 00:48:39.78\00:48:41.08 All right. Well thank you for your call. 00:48:42.22\00:48:43.35 We've got Joseph listening in California. 00:48:43.35\00:48:45.39 Joseph, welcome to the program. 00:48:45.39\00:48:46.96 - [Joseph] Hello pastors, how are you guys doing? 00:48:48.39\00:48:50.36 - Doing great. Thank you for calling. 00:48:50.36\00:48:52.19 - [Joseph] Yeah, first of all, 00:48:53.09\00:48:54.30 I want to thank you guys for your ministry. 00:48:54.30\00:48:55.90 I've learned a lot from listening to you guys' programs. 00:48:55.90\00:48:59.40 My question is, what are your thoughts on home church? 00:49:00.84\00:49:05.07 And does the Bible say anything against it? 00:49:05.07\00:49:07.81 - Well, you see a lot of examples in the Bible 00:49:08.98\00:49:11.48 of people meeting in homes in the early days of the church. 00:49:11.48\00:49:15.08 If you look in the book of Acts, you know, 00:49:15.08\00:49:18.19 of course Christ first met them in a home church, 00:49:18.19\00:49:20.56 an upper room. 00:49:20.56\00:49:22.06 The last supper was in what you would call a home church, 00:49:22.06\00:49:24.23 an upper room. 00:49:24.23\00:49:25.86 The resurrection and the early Bible studies. 00:49:25.86\00:49:28.96 The Holy Spirit being poured out. 00:49:28.96\00:49:30.90 This was all done in homes. 00:49:30.90\00:49:32.40 There were not formally dedicated church buildings 00:49:32.40\00:49:35.80 with a more public nature. 00:49:35.80\00:49:37.61 And so I personally think, 00:49:37.61\00:49:40.01 I know Pastor Ross agrees, 00:49:40.01\00:49:41.31 that the strength of any church 00:49:41.31\00:49:43.71 is gonna be not just what happens once a week 00:49:43.71\00:49:45.81 in the building, 00:49:45.81\00:49:47.08 but in the homes and in small groups. 00:49:47.08\00:49:51.12 Because that's where we really build relationships. 00:49:51.12\00:49:53.52 And you can have more intimate times of prayer 00:49:53.52\00:49:56.39 and know the people and know how to pray for them. 00:49:56.39\00:49:59.33 We learn how to get along and love each other better. 00:49:59.33\00:50:01.80 It's sometimes easier in a big church. 00:50:01.80\00:50:03.20 You can come in and go out 00:50:03.20\00:50:04.40 and not really get involved with people, 00:50:04.40\00:50:06.23 but you don't always learn how to love. 00:50:06.23\00:50:08.20 So yeah, I think that, 00:50:08.20\00:50:11.01 I think the strength of even the modern church 00:50:11.01\00:50:13.21 is very important to be involved in home groups. 00:50:13.21\00:50:16.78 Now, I wouldn't abandon the corporate getting together 00:50:16.78\00:50:19.98 or maybe a more traditional facility, 00:50:19.98\00:50:24.15 but certainly nothing wrong biblically with the home church. 00:50:24.15\00:50:28.06 - I think we even find in the Bible, for example, 00:50:28.06\00:50:30.16 Colossians 4:15, 00:50:30.16\00:50:31.79 when Christians were facing opposition and persecution, 00:50:31.79\00:50:34.56 not only from the religious leaders in Jerusalem, 00:50:34.56\00:50:37.43 but the Romans as well. 00:50:37.43\00:50:39.00 There were groups that met in homes and they were churches. 00:50:39.00\00:50:42.07 Colossians 4:15 says, 00:50:42.07\00:50:43.57 "Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea and Nympha, 00:50:43.57\00:50:47.14 and the church that is in his house." 00:50:47.14\00:50:49.58 So his house served as a gathering place for believers. 00:50:49.58\00:50:53.38 And that was, you might say a home church, but again, 00:50:53.38\00:50:56.32 that was the time of persecution. 00:50:56.32\00:50:57.95 Christianity was spreading 00:50:57.95\00:50:59.25 in a place of relative ease or peace. 00:51:00.39\00:51:02.66 There's nothing wrong in building a building 00:51:02.66\00:51:04.53 dedicated just to the worship of God 00:51:04.53\00:51:06.46 where believers can gather together 00:51:06.46\00:51:07.83 and worship on a regular basis. 00:51:07.83\00:51:10.30 - You know, I think one of the best verses 00:51:10.30\00:51:11.67 in that Pastor Ross is in Acts 2:46, 00:51:11.67\00:51:14.90 "For continuing daily, with one accord in the temple", 00:51:14.90\00:51:18.21 that was the public place, "and breaking bread 00:51:18.21\00:51:21.41 from house to house", meaning getting together, 00:51:21.41\00:51:24.48 studying as well as eating. 00:51:24.48\00:51:26.15 "They ate their food with gladness 00:51:26.15\00:51:27.55 and simplicity of heart, praising God." 00:51:27.55\00:51:30.05 So I think really a healthy church needs both. 00:51:30.05\00:51:33.52 - Absolutely next caller that we have is Steve 00:51:33.52\00:51:36.39 listening Canada, Steve, welcome to the program. 00:51:36.39\00:51:39.89 - [Steve] Good evening, gentlemen, 00:51:39.89\00:51:41.13 thank you very much for everything that you do. 00:51:41.13\00:51:43.77 Like I learned as well as many people 00:51:43.77\00:51:45.53 to try to walk the narrow path with our savior. 00:51:45.53\00:51:48.44 I was wondering the 1/3rd of angels who became demons 00:51:48.44\00:51:50.94 as you referred as made by pastor Doug Batchelor 00:51:50.94\00:51:54.54 that cause conflict in the movie as well. 00:51:54.54\00:51:57.18 Are they have this mentality mindset 00:51:57.18\00:51:59.18 that he's weakness from the two weakness 00:51:59.18\00:52:01.62 where I understood that he's jealous and proud. 00:52:01.62\00:52:04.72 Do they have this character? 00:52:04.72\00:52:06.32 And one and the following, 00:52:06.32\00:52:08.72 if you don't mind just asking me, 00:52:08.72\00:52:10.19 us when we are in Christ, 00:52:10.19\00:52:12.09 we become in the image of Christ as our character. 00:52:12.09\00:52:14.63 But once when we seen like Judas, Saul that you quoted, 00:52:14.63\00:52:19.63 or they became in the character of Lucifer, 00:52:20.84\00:52:23.17 or Satan the devil, 00:52:23.17\00:52:24.77 as they are also have this jealousy and proud in them, 00:52:24.77\00:52:28.48 that is his character. 00:52:28.48\00:52:29.64 Can we inherit his image, 00:52:29.64\00:52:31.28 his character of Satan, what I'm saying, 00:52:31.28\00:52:33.62 just like we can get the character of God? 00:52:33.62\00:52:36.55 - Okay, so when the angels that were deceived by Lucifer, 00:52:36.55\00:52:41.56 when they fell and chose to follow Lucifer in his rebellion, 00:52:42.96\00:52:46.49 they began to take on the characteristics of Lucifer, 00:52:46.49\00:52:49.56 which were pride and selfishness. 00:52:49.56\00:52:52.23 And of course the human race. 00:52:52.23\00:52:54.40 When we fell into sin through our first parents, 00:52:54.40\00:52:57.54 our love nature was damaged 00:52:57.54\00:52:59.47 and we became very selfish creatures. 00:52:59.47\00:53:01.64 So I think that, I dunno, 00:53:01.64\00:53:03.14 Pastor Ross had seemed to me that everybody that, 00:53:03.14\00:53:06.28 unless we're converted and born again, 00:53:06.28\00:53:07.95 people are motivated by selfishness and pride 00:53:07.95\00:53:11.49 and we need to have our image transformed. 00:53:11.49\00:53:16.49 You know, all old things passed away, 00:53:17.66\00:53:18.89 all things made new, we're being conformed 00:53:18.89\00:53:20.56 into the image of His Son. 00:53:20.56\00:53:22.66 And so that is the plan of salvation. 00:53:22.66\00:53:24.77 - You know at the end of time pastor, 00:53:24.77\00:53:26.07 two groups of people are described 00:53:26.07\00:53:27.57 in the book of Revelation. 00:53:27.57\00:53:28.77 Those with the mark of the beast. 00:53:28.77\00:53:29.84 And those with the seal of God. 00:53:29.84\00:53:31.47 Those with the seal of God, 00:53:31.47\00:53:32.97 they reflect the character of God. 00:53:32.97\00:53:35.38 Those with the mark of the beast 00:53:35.38\00:53:36.91 they reflect the character or the image of the beast, 00:53:36.91\00:53:39.35 meaning pride, selfishness. 00:53:39.35\00:53:41.48 So yes, as we surrender to the Spirit of God, 00:53:41.48\00:53:44.52 as we seek God to guide and work within us, 00:53:44.52\00:53:46.79 He creates a new person by faith, 00:53:46.79\00:53:50.26 little by little it's called sanctification. 00:53:50.26\00:53:52.69 Absolutely. 00:53:52.69\00:53:53.63 If we reject that though, 00:53:53.63\00:53:54.60 we are setting ourselves up 00:53:54.60\00:53:56.16 to reflect more and more the devil. 00:53:56.16\00:53:58.50 - That's right. 00:53:58.50\00:53:59.80 You know, when we have a Bible lesson that talk, 00:53:59.80\00:54:01.07 well, first of all, 00:54:01.07\00:54:02.54 our caller asked about the "Cosmic Conflict" DVD. 00:54:02.54\00:54:05.34 If you wanna know more about this rebellion, 00:54:05.34\00:54:07.18 where did sin come from? 00:54:07.18\00:54:10.51 If God is more powerful than the devil, 00:54:10.51\00:54:12.58 then if God is good and if He's loving, 00:54:12.58\00:54:14.95 why doesn't He destroy the devil? 00:54:14.95\00:54:16.42 Did He make a devil? 00:54:16.42\00:54:17.65 Why is there evil in the world if God is good? 00:54:17.65\00:54:20.39 This is the big question a lot of atheists ask. 00:54:20.39\00:54:22.39 They say, "If God's so good, if there's a God, 00:54:22.39\00:54:24.89 why is there innocent people suffering?" 00:54:24.89\00:54:27.66 All of this is answered in that DVD 00:54:27.66\00:54:29.60 called "Cosmic Conflict." 00:54:29.60\00:54:31.60 And you can order that from Amazing Facts, 00:54:31.60\00:54:33.57 or you can probably listen to it for free. 00:54:33.57\00:54:35.54 Everything seems to land on YouTube. 00:54:35.54\00:54:37.57 If you just go to YouTube, I'm quite certain it's there. 00:54:37.57\00:54:40.08 Type in "Cosmic Conflict" 00:54:40.08\00:54:41.94 and that'll really help you understand that. 00:54:41.94\00:54:44.11 Also there's a lesson you can get 00:54:44.11\00:54:45.88 called, "Did God create a devil?" 00:54:45.88\00:54:48.35 How do they get that? 00:54:48.35\00:54:49.58 - The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:54:49.58\00:54:53.39 And just simply ask for the study guide 00:54:53.39\00:54:55.29 it's called, "Did God Create a Devil?" 00:54:55.29\00:54:58.19 And pastor we hear the music playing the background, 00:54:58.19\00:55:00.33 but to those listening on satellite 00:55:00.33\00:55:02.30 we can be signing off, but for the rest of you stay by, 00:55:02.30\00:55:04.83 we've got some great internet questions 00:55:04.83\00:55:07.07 that we're gonna be answering. 00:55:07.07\00:55:08.57 (upbeat music) 00:55:09.77\00:55:11.77 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:11.77\00:55:14.38 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:14.38\00:55:18.01 "Bible Answers Live" is produced by 00:55:18.01\00:55:20.15 Amazing Facts International, 00:55:20.15\00:55:22.18 a faith based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:22.18\00:55:26.79 (upbeat music) 00:55:26.79\00:55:27.92 - Hello, friends, welcome back. 00:55:27.92\00:55:29.19 This is our final internet questions 00:55:29.19\00:55:31.79 that have been sent in. 00:55:31.79\00:55:33.23 Pastor Doug, we have about a minute and a half 00:55:33.23\00:55:34.73 to try and answer as many of the questions as we can. 00:55:34.73\00:55:37.47 So we'll get right to it. 00:55:37.47\00:55:38.60 Here's the first one. 00:55:38.60\00:55:40.30 "How can I stay calm when somebody else falsely accuses 00:55:40.30\00:55:44.71 me?" - Well, it's not necessarily a sin 00:55:45.87\00:55:47.34 to feel some indignation when you're falsely accused, 00:55:47.34\00:55:50.25 but I believe that the reason we can find calmness 00:55:50.25\00:55:53.38 is through the Spirit of God. 00:55:53.38\00:55:54.65 Knowing Jesus went through the same thing. 00:55:54.65\00:55:56.82 Look at Christ at His trial, 00:55:56.82\00:55:58.22 how calmly He bore all of the false testimony 00:55:58.22\00:56:01.52 that was hurled at Him. 00:56:01.52\00:56:03.02 So it's not unnatural to feel some righteous indignation, 00:56:03.02\00:56:07.86 but then hopefully you'll find peace 00:56:07.86\00:56:09.86 knowing I can't change that, I can only change me. 00:56:09.86\00:56:12.57 - Next question that we have. 00:56:13.70\00:56:14.90 Why did Jesus cry out, "My God, My God, 00:56:14.90\00:56:17.04 why have You forsaken Me" on the cross 00:56:17.04\00:56:19.41 when He knew what was going on and what was to happen? 00:56:19.41\00:56:22.88 - Well, some people think 00:56:22.88\00:56:24.15 that Jesus reached a point of despair 00:56:24.15\00:56:26.51 when He cried out 00:56:26.51\00:56:27.75 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" 00:56:27.75\00:56:29.78 That's actually the first verse in Psalm 22, 00:56:29.78\00:56:33.36 which was a messianic Psalm, 00:56:33.36\00:56:35.46 which they would normally quote from the messianic Psalms 00:56:35.46\00:56:38.43 during the Passover. 00:56:38.43\00:56:39.86 Christ, hanging on the cross, quoted from the Psalm 00:56:39.86\00:56:42.90 that pointed to what He was experiencing. 00:56:42.90\00:56:45.83 And in that very Psalm, it says, 00:56:45.83\00:56:48.20 "They pierced my hands and my feet." 00:56:48.20\00:56:50.24 And people would see Him saying that on the cross. 00:56:50.24\00:56:53.78 And they'd go, "This is the prophecy that tells who He is." 00:56:53.78\00:56:57.28 He was not uttering despair, 00:56:57.28\00:56:59.08 'cause Jesus did not ever lose faith. 00:56:59.08\00:57:01.48 He was basically pointing us 00:57:01.48\00:57:02.92 to the fulfillment of that prophecy. 00:57:02.92\00:57:05.09 - Okay, another question that we have, 00:57:05.09\00:57:06.35 "If I don't know that I'm doing wrong, 00:57:06.35\00:57:08.79 will God judge me for that?" 00:57:08.79\00:57:10.49 - Well, the Bible tells us in the book of Luke, 00:57:11.69\00:57:13.43 "To him who knows his master's will and does not do it 00:57:13.43\00:57:16.93 he will be beaten with many stripes. 00:57:16.93\00:57:18.70 He that did not know and disobeyed is beaten with few." 00:57:18.70\00:57:22.74 You are more accountable for when you know, 00:57:22.74\00:57:26.34 God says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, 00:57:26.34\00:57:29.21 because they've rejected knowledge." 00:57:29.21\00:57:31.45 And so there is more accountability when we know 00:57:31.45\00:57:35.32 God's will. Jesus said, "For someone who does not know, 00:57:35.32\00:57:37.92 if you did not know you would have no sin, 00:57:37.92\00:57:40.19 but now that you say you see, your sin remains." 00:57:40.19\00:57:42.69 And that's the gospel of John. 00:57:42.69\00:57:44.39 - Maybe time for one more Pastor Doug. 00:57:44.39\00:57:46.06 "Why didn't Daniel go straight to heaven?" 00:57:46.06\00:57:48.56 - Okay, meaning Daniel the prophet. 00:57:48.56\00:57:50.30 Believe it or not friends, 00:57:51.23\00:57:52.47 there is more than one Daniel in the Bible. 00:57:52.47\00:57:54.57 You know, it's really easier to ask 00:57:54.57\00:57:57.81 why didn't all the other good prophets go right to heaven? 00:57:57.81\00:58:00.64 Like Elijah or Enoch. 00:58:00.64\00:58:02.38 All the other good prophets went to their graves. 00:58:02.38\00:58:05.01 God said, "Daniel, you will sleep until that day 00:58:05.01\00:58:08.18 the last day of the judgment day." 00:58:08.18\00:58:10.55 Friends we are now out of time, 00:58:10.55\00:58:12.22 stay tuned for some important messages. 00:58:12.22\00:58:13.89 We'll study together next week. 00:58:13.89\00:58:15.59 (upbeat music) 00:58:15.59\00:58:17.59 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live", 00:58:17.59\00:58:19.49 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.49\00:58:23.26 (upbeat music) 00:58:23.26\00:58:25.87
