Hello, friends. 00:00:50.08\00:00:51.31 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.31\00:00:53.75 In 2015, Guinness World Records identified Mawsynram, India, 00:00:55.18\00:00:59.59 as the wettest place on earth. 00:00:59.59\00:01:02.12 The region, about 4,600 feet above sea level, 00:01:02.12\00:01:05.66 receives rainfall of 449 inches annually. 00:01:05.66\00:01:10.53 That's almost 40 feet of rain a year, 00:01:10.53\00:01:12.73 more than three times as much as Hilo, Hawaii, 00:01:12.73\00:01:15.14 which is the wettest place in the United States. 00:01:15.14\00:01:17.74 And that's just their average. 00:01:17.74\00:01:19.57 In 1985, the region experience a record busting, 00:01:19.57\00:01:22.91 1000 inches of rain. 00:01:22.91\00:01:25.85 The area is blessed with incredible flora and fauna, 00:01:25.85\00:01:28.78 but you better bring your umbrella year round. 00:01:28.78\00:01:31.45 The torrential rains are caused by warm moist winds carried 00:01:31.45\00:01:34.79 from the bay of Bengal, that are funneled into a narrow zone 00:01:34.79\00:01:38.06 of cool air over the Khasi Hills, 00:01:38.06\00:01:40.53 thus continually transforming the moisture into mist 00:01:40.53\00:01:43.67 and rain clouds. 00:01:43.67\00:01:45.17 And it doesn't just rain, it pours. 00:01:45.17\00:01:47.40 Any house with a tin roof becomes so loud, 00:01:47.40\00:01:50.11 it's virtually impossible to have a conversation. 00:01:50.11\00:01:53.38 Many homes and schools use grass roofs to quiet the roar 00:01:53.38\00:01:56.38 when it rains in a heavy way. 00:01:56.38\00:01:59.15 During the monsoon season, 00:01:59.15\00:02:00.58 it's not uncommon to have 40 days 00:02:00.58\00:02:02.45 of unrelenting rain in Mawsynram. 00:02:02.45\00:02:05.42 Fortunately, the land is steep and well drained, 00:02:05.42\00:02:08.09 so it never floods. 00:02:08.09\00:02:10.46 I even heard Pastor Ross, 00:02:10.46\00:02:11.96 they actually have trouble getting drinking water, 00:02:11.96\00:02:14.73 because it rains so much and it all just runs down the hill. 00:02:14.73\00:02:17.70 They've not been able to build a containing pond. 00:02:17.70\00:02:20.90 What do they say? 00:02:20.90\00:02:22.17 Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. 00:02:22.17\00:02:23.94 - Right. 00:02:23.94\00:02:25.44 Well you know, Pastor, we were just talking about here. 00:02:25.44\00:02:27.01 You have a place that has so much water, so much rain, 00:02:27.01\00:02:29.81 and then you have other places on the planet 00:02:29.81\00:02:32.01 that is just dying for rain. 00:02:32.01\00:02:34.12 I mean, think California and the Western part 00:02:34.12\00:02:36.65 of the United States, it's been dry. 00:02:36.65\00:02:38.72 And, of course, you have fires as a result. 00:02:38.72\00:02:41.29 And yet there's some places that just have a lot of rain. 00:02:41.29\00:02:44.53 Of course, you've been in Hawaii, I have, 00:02:44.53\00:02:46.53 we've been in Hilo. 00:02:46.53\00:02:47.93 And it does rain there a lot, almost every day. 00:02:47.93\00:02:51.00 When I was there, it rained. 00:02:51.00\00:02:52.33 - It's very common in the afternoon. 00:02:52.33\00:02:53.84 The clouds gather and it rains. 00:02:53.84\00:02:56.17 And I was there once on vacation with our family 00:02:56.17\00:02:59.34 when it was a vacation. 00:02:59.34\00:03:01.08 And Hawaii had experienced 40 days and 40 nights of rain. 00:03:01.08\00:03:05.31 It wasn't continual, but for 40 days it rained, 00:03:05.31\00:03:08.58 which makes us think of what story in the Bible? 00:03:08.58\00:03:11.49 - Whenever you talk about 40 days of rain, 00:03:11.49\00:03:13.22 you think of Noah and the flood. 00:03:13.22\00:03:14.66 Now, of course, fortunately, 00:03:14.66\00:03:16.69 we're not gonna have a worldwide flood, 00:03:16.69\00:03:18.29 but yes, our 40 days of rain, you think of Noah. 00:03:18.29\00:03:21.40 But Noah is also used in the Bible, 00:03:22.56\00:03:24.17 not only connected with rain, Pastor Doug, 00:03:24.17\00:03:25.90 but he's also used with sort of our time 00:03:25.90\00:03:28.67 and things that are taking place just before Jesus comes. 00:03:28.67\00:03:31.57 - Yeah, the Lord said that as it was in the days of Noah, 00:03:31.57\00:03:34.48 the conditions that brought on the destruction 00:03:34.48\00:03:36.41 of the world back then will be replicated. 00:03:36.41\00:03:39.48 And the Bible tells us that violence filled the world 00:03:39.48\00:03:43.02 at that time. 00:03:43.02\00:03:44.49 Of course, we've got war and violence on the streets 00:03:44.49\00:03:47.52 and on the battle front, as well as immorality. 00:03:47.52\00:03:52.16 And Jesus said, "The days would be like the days of Noah 00:03:52.16\00:03:54.60 and the days of Lot," meaning Sodom and Gamora. 00:03:54.60\00:03:57.77 And that kind of describes conditions in the world today. 00:03:57.77\00:04:01.00 You can read this in Luke 17:26. 00:04:01.00\00:04:03.84 Jesus is speaking and He said, 00:04:03.84\00:04:06.04 "As it was in the days of Noah, 00:04:06.04\00:04:08.34 so will it be also in the days of the Son of man. 00:04:08.34\00:04:11.68 They ate and they drank, they married wives, 00:04:11.68\00:04:13.72 they were given in marriage." 00:04:13.72\00:04:15.15 Not that there's anything wrong with eating and drinking. 00:04:15.15\00:04:16.95 He's talking about, to excess. 00:04:16.95\00:04:19.19 Marrying wives and giving in marriage and divorce, 00:04:20.69\00:04:23.36 it's talking about. 00:04:23.36\00:04:24.93 "Until the day that Noah entered the ark 00:04:24.93\00:04:27.00 and the flood came and destroyed them all." 00:04:27.00\00:04:30.03 So, they did not know both in Sodom and Gamora, 00:04:30.03\00:04:35.04 and among the people living in Noah's day, 00:04:36.20\00:04:38.64 the sun was shining for seven days before the flood. 00:04:38.64\00:04:42.04 And then boom, it happened. 00:04:42.04\00:04:45.38 And Jesus tells us one of the shortest verses in the Bible. 00:04:45.38\00:04:48.62 He says, "Speaking of the last days, remember Lot's wife." 00:04:48.62\00:04:53.62 The people then didn't know it was their last night, 00:04:55.02\00:04:56.69 their last day. 00:04:56.69\00:04:58.33 And we've got an offer that I think talks about that. 00:04:58.33\00:05:00.96 - The book is called "The Last Night on Earth." 00:05:00.96\00:05:03.43 And it looks at these prophecies in the Bible 00:05:03.43\00:05:05.50 that talk about end time events. 00:05:05.50\00:05:07.44 We'll send it to anyone for free. 00:05:07.44\00:05:09.07 All you have to do is call the number 800-835-6747. 00:05:09.07\00:05:13.14 And you can ask for offer number 101. 00:05:13.14\00:05:15.88 Or ask by name, 00:05:15.88\00:05:17.11 the book is called "The Last Night on Earth." 00:05:17.11\00:05:19.75 We'll be happy to send it to anyone in North America. 00:05:19.75\00:05:22.45 Again, that number is 800-835-6747. 00:05:22.45\00:05:26.29 That is our resource phone line. 00:05:26.29\00:05:28.46 This is a live program. 00:05:28.46\00:05:29.79 And if you have a Bible question, 00:05:29.79\00:05:31.49 the phone line here to the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:05:31.49\00:05:34.50 That's 800-463-7297. 00:05:37.43\00:05:39.63 Now, Pastor Doug, we were just talking before the program. 00:05:39.63\00:05:43.00 We mentioned we haven't had a chance 00:05:43.00\00:05:44.37 to actually do a live program on and off 00:05:44.37\00:05:47.08 for a couple of weeks, but it's good to be back. 00:05:47.08\00:05:49.04 And finally, we're able to take these Bible questions. 00:05:49.04\00:05:52.41 It's sort of an international Bible study. 00:05:52.41\00:05:53.31 - Amen. 00:05:53.31\00:05:55.22 - So if you have a Bible related question, friend, 00:05:55.22\00:05:57.05 call 800-463-7297. 00:05:57.05\00:06:01.49 Well, before we go to the phone lines, 00:06:01.49\00:06:02.79 we always like to start with the word of prayer. 00:06:02.79\00:06:04.29 So we'll do that now. 00:06:04.29\00:06:05.99 Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word, the Bible. 00:06:05.99\00:06:08.06 We thank You for the opportunity 00:06:08.06\00:06:09.80 to be able to study together. 00:06:09.80\00:06:11.27 And Lord, we ask Your blessing upon this program 00:06:11.27\00:06:13.87 and also those who are listening wherever they might be. 00:06:13.87\00:06:16.50 Lead us into a clearer 00:06:16.50\00:06:17.84 and a fuller understanding of the Bible. 00:06:17.84\00:06:19.71 We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:06:19.71\00:06:22.48 - Amen. 00:06:22.48\00:06:23.71 - All right, we're gonna go to the phone lines. 00:06:23.71\00:06:25.21 Our first call this evening is Glen listening in Ohio. 00:06:25.21\00:06:27.88 Glen, welcome to the program. 00:06:27.88\00:06:29.35 - [Glen] Good evening, Gentlemen. 00:06:30.45\00:06:31.72 Thank you very much for taking my call. 00:06:31.72\00:06:33.96 And it concerns the question of a translation of the Bible, 00:06:33.96\00:06:37.19 which means much to me. 00:06:37.19\00:06:38.73 And I think it's a significant mistranslation. 00:06:38.73\00:06:42.30 It's First John 5:18. 00:06:42.30\00:06:45.10 There's two sections to the verse. 00:06:45.10\00:06:47.00 In King James it says, "He who is born of God does not sin." 00:06:48.47\00:06:52.77 But I heard a translation the other day on Radio 74 00:06:52.77\00:06:56.41 that said, "He that abideth with God does not sin." 00:06:57.81\00:07:01.18 And I think that it's diluting the truth. 00:07:01.18\00:07:04.55 And that's when one is born again. 00:07:04.55\00:07:07.49 And my question is the validity of that translation. 00:07:07.49\00:07:12.49 - Yeah, well there's of course, 00:07:15.00\00:07:16.67 several translations translate this differently. 00:07:16.67\00:07:19.80 I typically read the King James or New King James. 00:07:19.80\00:07:22.84 You got me curious, 00:07:22.84\00:07:24.27 and I opened up the English standard version. 00:07:24.27\00:07:26.34 And here it reads, 00:07:26.34\00:07:27.54 "We know that everyone who has been born 00:07:27.54\00:07:28.98 of God does not keep on sinning, 00:07:28.98\00:07:32.05 but he who is born of God protects him 00:07:32.05\00:07:34.38 and the evil one does not touch him." 00:07:34.38\00:07:36.65 And so, I think when I've looked at this first before, 00:07:36.65\00:07:39.52 and Pastor Ross may also know about it, 00:07:39.52\00:07:41.99 the verb that is used there for sin 00:07:41.99\00:07:43.96 is talking about practicing sin. 00:07:43.96\00:07:46.29 So when we're born again, 00:07:46.29\00:07:47.50 we do not live a life of practicing sin. 00:07:47.50\00:07:50.37 It doesn't mean that if a person is born again, 00:07:50.37\00:07:52.73 that they are incapable of sin 00:07:52.73\00:07:54.57 or they may not stumble and fall. 00:07:54.57\00:07:56.97 So, does that make sense? 00:07:56.97\00:08:00.24 - [Glen] You have the second part of that that says that, 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.44 "He that has begotten of God keepeth himself 00:08:02.44\00:08:06.08 that the evil won't touch him not." 00:08:06.08\00:08:07.58 And it doesn't sound like there's that much difference 00:08:07.58\00:08:09.95 between the first part and the second part, 00:08:09.95\00:08:12.12 if you relate the first part to, 00:08:13.09\00:08:14.39 that is not continue to sin. 00:08:14.39\00:08:16.96 And being born of God, to me, is the ultimate. 00:08:16.96\00:08:20.16 And I understand that some people even goes so far 00:08:20.16\00:08:22.50 as to translate that he who is born of God cannot sin. 00:08:22.50\00:08:26.97 And that sounds to be the truth to the matter. 00:08:26.97\00:08:30.41 Once you're born of God, there's no sin to be done. 00:08:30.41\00:08:33.78 It makes a lot of sense to me. 00:08:33.78\00:08:35.44 And when I heard that it diluted that truth 00:08:35.44\00:08:38.05 about when one is born again. 00:08:38.05\00:08:40.48 - Yeah, well, in the King James, 00:08:40.48\00:08:42.05 "We know that whoever is born of God sinneth not, 00:08:42.05\00:08:44.95 but he that has begotten of God keeps himself 00:08:44.95\00:08:46.96 that the wicked one touches him not." 00:08:46.96\00:08:49.26 And I think that's just telling us that 00:08:49.26\00:08:51.39 when a person is born again, they do not live a life of sin. 00:08:51.39\00:08:55.76 But again, I don't think you can use this verse to say 00:08:55.76\00:08:58.33 that once a person is born again, 00:08:58.33\00:08:59.67 they are sinless from then until their death 00:08:59.67\00:09:01.77 or Jesus returns. 00:09:01.77\00:09:03.71 So, is that what you're wondering? 00:09:03.71\00:09:05.21 Or, are you saying that? 00:09:05.21\00:09:06.78 - [Glen] Well, I think that the thing that's diluted is, 00:09:06.78\00:09:09.48 me personally, I believe that a person is saved 00:09:09.48\00:09:12.18 and born again like Shelah was, 00:09:12.18\00:09:14.55 and that's by a resurrection 00:09:14.55\00:09:15.98 and that's gonna be at the second coming. 00:09:15.98\00:09:18.02 And from that point forward, 00:09:18.02\00:09:19.49 we're eternally secure and there's no way 00:09:19.49\00:09:22.69 when you're born of God, there's no more sin there. 00:09:22.69\00:09:25.96 That's my thinking. 00:09:25.96\00:09:27.60 - Okay. 00:09:27.60\00:09:29.10 - Yeah, I mean, the point you're mentioning there, 00:09:29.10\00:09:30.50 talking about the resurrection, 00:09:30.50\00:09:31.77 I think we're all in agreement there. 00:09:31.77\00:09:33.57 That when Jesus comes 00:09:33.57\00:09:34.74 and the dead in Christ are resurrected, 00:09:34.74\00:09:36.87 absolutely, sin is no more. 00:09:36.87\00:09:38.67 Eventually, there is the final destruction of sin 00:09:38.67\00:09:41.08 and sinners, but we can be spiritually born again now. 00:09:41.08\00:09:44.95 We can be set free. 00:09:44.95\00:09:46.51 Jesus said, "If the Son sets you free, 00:09:46.51\00:09:48.05 you shall be free indeed." 00:09:48.05\00:09:49.68 But once again, the Bible also warns us that says, 00:09:49.68\00:09:51.95 "Let him who thinks he stands takes heed, lest he fall." 00:09:51.95\00:09:56.69 Peter said, "Lord, I'm ready to go to prison and to death." 00:09:56.69\00:09:59.56 And then we find out a little lady in the same chapter, 00:09:59.56\00:10:01.76 he denies Christ. 00:10:01.76\00:10:03.47 So we can never be self-conscious and think 00:10:03.47\00:10:05.93 somehow, or we can overcome in our own strength. 00:10:05.93\00:10:07.77 It is Christ that works in us. 00:10:07.77\00:10:09.94 So we've gotta keep trusting in him. 00:10:09.94\00:10:12.07 - We have a book that, I think, would answer this. 00:10:12.07\00:10:14.41 It gives a really balanced view 00:10:14.41\00:10:15.84 and it's got a provocative title. 00:10:15.84\00:10:17.65 "Is It Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:10:17.65\00:10:20.85 And Joe Cruz, the author of this booklet, 00:10:20.85\00:10:23.45 he goes through the scriptures 00:10:23.45\00:10:24.95 and talks about what it means to live a holy life. 00:10:24.95\00:10:27.29 And he deals with the subject of sinlessness as well. 00:10:27.29\00:10:30.46 So folks would really enjoy that. 00:10:30.46\00:10:32.03 It's a book called, 00:10:32.03\00:10:33.23 "Is It Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:10:33.23\00:10:34.83 - If you'd like receive the book, 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.33 all you need to do is call the number 800-835-6747. 00:10:36.33\00:10:40.40 And you can ask for the book, 00:10:40.40\00:10:41.64 "Is It Possible to Live Without Sinning?" 00:10:41.64\00:10:43.87 We'll be able to send that to anyone in North America. 00:10:43.87\00:10:46.17 If you're outside of North America, 00:10:46.17\00:10:48.11 you'd like to read the book, 00:10:48.11\00:10:49.64 just go to the Amazing Facts website, amazingfacts.org. 00:10:49.64\00:10:53.18 And you can read it on our free library there 00:10:53.18\00:10:56.15 on our website. 00:10:56.15\00:10:57.32 Thanks for your call, Glen. 00:10:57.32\00:10:58.52 We've got Brittany listening in California. 00:10:58.52\00:11:00.09 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:11:00.09\00:11:01.66 - [Brittany] Hey. 00:11:03.46\00:11:04.39 - Hi, thanks for calling. 00:11:04.39\00:11:05.83 And your question. 00:11:07.76\00:11:09.30 - [Brittany] Yeah, my question is, 00:11:09.30\00:11:11.00 why is the name Malchus only in John's gospel 00:11:12.17\00:11:17.04 and not in the others? 00:11:17.77\00:11:19.47 - My guess is, when you read the gospel of John, 00:11:19.47\00:11:21.88 John seems to have more personal information 00:11:21.88\00:11:24.91 on what's happening with the court and the trial. 00:11:24.91\00:11:28.38 Because you'll read that the other disciples 00:11:28.38\00:11:30.72 for Christ had fled. 00:11:30.72\00:11:32.05 Peter, he stayed outside 00:11:32.05\00:11:33.29 with the servants of the high priest. 00:11:33.29\00:11:35.86 John knew somebody that was related to the high priest. 00:11:35.86\00:11:39.39 He went in. 00:11:39.39\00:11:40.43 He saw these things firsthand. 00:11:40.43\00:11:42.10 He gives a little more information about what was the 00:11:42.10\00:11:44.40 name of the servant that had his ear whacked off. 00:11:44.40\00:11:47.17 But that's my understanding. 00:11:47.17\00:11:49.90 - I think he's just adding some additional details there 00:11:49.90\00:11:52.47 as to who this person was. 00:11:52.47\00:11:54.21 You wonder, Pastor, that the Bible doesn't tell us, 00:11:54.21\00:11:56.38 but you wonder to have your ear cut off 00:11:56.38\00:11:58.21 and then healed miraculously by Jesus. 00:11:58.21\00:12:00.55 Did this Malchus ever become a believer? 00:12:01.68\00:12:03.59 I don't know. 00:12:03.59\00:12:04.75 The Bible does say that there were priests 00:12:04.75\00:12:06.45 that eventually became believers 00:12:06.45\00:12:07.79 after Christ rose from the dead 00:12:07.79\00:12:09.59 through the preaching of the apostles. 00:12:09.59\00:12:10.86 So we don't know if this Malchus, 00:12:10.86\00:12:13.19 a servant of one of the priests, 00:12:13.19\00:12:14.63 the high priests' servant, the Bible doesn't say. 00:12:14.63\00:12:16.83 - His name, I just looked it up out of curiosity. 00:12:16.83\00:12:18.93 The name Malchus means the counselor. 00:12:18.93\00:12:22.47 Means, a reigning counselor. 00:12:22.47\00:12:24.81 Interesting. 00:12:24.81\00:12:26.24 - All right, well, thanks your call, Brittany. 00:12:26.24\00:12:27.51 We've got Caleb listening in New York. 00:12:27.51\00:12:29.41 Caleb, welcome to the program. 00:12:29.41\00:12:30.91 - [Caleb] Hello, thank you Pastor Ross and Pastor Doug. 00:12:32.35\00:12:35.85 Thank you for picking up my call. 00:12:35.85\00:12:37.92 - Thanks for calling. 00:12:39.29\00:12:40.22 - [Caleb] So, my question is, 00:12:40.22\00:12:42.66 I had a dream the other night that really scares me. 00:12:42.66\00:12:45.59 I wonder if, does God speak to us in dreams? 00:12:47.03\00:12:48.90 Because as you know, 00:12:48.90\00:12:50.67 the return of Christ is described in the Bible as a 00:12:50.67\00:12:54.77 wedding, and we are the church of the bride room. 00:12:54.77\00:12:57.37 And the other night I had a dream. 00:12:57.37\00:12:59.24 And my brother, 00:12:59.24\00:13:00.54 I have a brother who is not really religious. 00:13:00.54\00:13:02.68 He doesn't really go to church, which I'm not judging him. 00:13:02.68\00:13:06.48 I'm no better than him. 00:13:06.48\00:13:08.48 But I had a dream we were supposed to go a wedding. 00:13:08.48\00:13:12.02 And he made it there and I was late. 00:13:12.02\00:13:15.09 I was running late. 00:13:15.09\00:13:16.79 And I've been nervous about this. 00:13:16.79\00:13:19.76 And I was running late. 00:13:19.76\00:13:21.26 The dream ended, I don't know if I made it. 00:13:22.46\00:13:25.53 I was just wondering, is that a sign of God telling me, 00:13:25.53\00:13:29.37 get my life together, or is this sign saying, 00:13:30.54\00:13:34.11 I may not make it to heaven? 00:13:34.11\00:13:35.88 Does God do that? 00:13:35.88\00:13:37.31 Would He do that? 00:13:37.31\00:13:38.25 - Let me give you a scripture. 00:13:38.25\00:13:39.51 Of course, I'm not gonna claim I've got the gift 00:13:39.51\00:13:41.98 of interpretation, but it does tell us 00:13:41.98\00:13:44.79 in the book of Joel chapter two, 00:13:44.79\00:13:46.59 and you'll look at verse 28. 00:13:46.59\00:13:48.59 "And it'll come to pass afterward 00:13:48.59\00:13:50.86 that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh 00:13:50.86\00:13:53.40 and your son's and your daughters will prophesy. 00:13:53.40\00:13:55.56 Your old men will dream dreams. 00:13:55.56\00:13:57.67 And your young men will see visions." 00:13:57.67\00:13:59.93 So, having dreams or God giving dreams, 00:13:59.93\00:14:03.27 there's nothing in the Bible that tells us 00:14:03.27\00:14:05.61 that God has ever curtailed that ability 00:14:05.61\00:14:08.58 to speak to people through dreams. 00:14:08.58\00:14:10.75 I mean, he spoke to Joseph through a dream. 00:14:10.75\00:14:12.78 God even spoke to Pontius Pilate through a dream and said... 00:14:12.78\00:14:15.78 No, his wife rather. 00:14:15.78\00:14:17.59 And Pilate's wife was told, 00:14:17.59\00:14:19.02 "Have nothing to do with that just man." 00:14:19.02\00:14:21.06 And she wasn't a Christian. 00:14:22.16\00:14:23.73 So God can certainly speak to you through dreams. 00:14:23.73\00:14:26.96 And maybe the Lord is telling you that... 00:14:26.96\00:14:29.73 Yeah, I don't think God would give you a dream just 00:14:29.73\00:14:31.37 to tell you you're doomed. 00:14:31.37\00:14:32.83 He'd probably would give you a dream to tell you that 00:14:32.83\00:14:35.34 this could be your fate 00:14:35.34\00:14:36.57 if you don't repent and come back to Him. 00:14:36.57\00:14:39.34 But like I said, I'm not gonna pretend I'm Daniel or Joseph 00:14:39.34\00:14:42.21 and I understand what that dream means. 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.71 That'd be between you and the Lord. 00:14:44.71\00:14:46.58 But yes, the Bible says, God does speak through dreams. 00:14:46.58\00:14:49.98 - And there's different times in our life, 00:14:49.98\00:14:51.25 probably that we can look back 00:14:51.25\00:14:52.62 and we can see how God was speaking to us. 00:14:52.62\00:14:54.42 Maybe through a friend, maybe through circumstances, 00:14:54.42\00:14:57.06 maybe through a dream or an impression. 00:14:57.06\00:14:59.89 And it's God wanting to get our attention, 00:14:59.89\00:15:01.93 trying to warn us saying, "You're doing something wrong." 00:15:01.93\00:15:04.23 Or, "Repent." 00:15:04.23\00:15:05.47 Or, "This is the way I want you to go." 00:15:05.47\00:15:06.74 So, I think we need to be sensitive to that. 00:15:06.74\00:15:09.44 Of course, we've gotta test everything by the Word of God. 00:15:09.44\00:15:11.77 I mean, you don't have a dream. 00:15:11.77\00:15:13.11 And then if it contradicts the Bible say, 00:15:13.11\00:15:15.08 "Well, this must be God." 00:15:15.08\00:15:16.28 No, God will never contradict the Bible. 00:15:16.28\00:15:17.51 - That's right. 00:15:17.51\00:15:18.75 - But we do want be sensitive to that. 00:15:18.75\00:15:20.18 - Yeah. 00:15:20.18\00:15:21.62 I've heard a number of testimonies in recent years. 00:15:21.62\00:15:23.32 And this is not what you base your theology on, 00:15:23.32\00:15:26.09 of people like for instance, in Islam. 00:15:26.09\00:15:29.09 And someone will have a dream. 00:15:29.09\00:15:30.59 And the Lord speaks to Him and says, Jesus appears to them. 00:15:30.59\00:15:33.80 And they had no inclination. 00:15:33.80\00:15:34.93 They weren't reading the Bible. 00:15:34.93\00:15:36.13 And He says, "I am the truth, read the Bible." 00:15:36.13\00:15:38.20 And they say, "God gave me a dream." 00:15:38.20\00:15:40.44 And it brings them to the Lord. 00:15:40.44\00:15:42.30 It's hard to question that. 00:15:42.30\00:15:43.30 I mean, it seems like it's valid. 00:15:43.30\00:15:45.14 - All right, well, thanks to your call, Caleb. 00:15:46.84\00:15:48.58 Again, friends, if you have a Bible question, 00:15:48.58\00:15:50.95 the phone line is 800-463-7297. 00:15:50.95\00:15:54.68 That'll get you right here in the studio. 00:15:54.68\00:15:56.42 800-463-7297. 00:15:56.42\00:16:00.32 We've got Aaron listening in North Dakota. 00:16:00.32\00:16:02.39 Aaron, welcome to the program. 00:16:02.39\00:16:03.89 - [Aaron] Hey, thank you. - Thank you for calling. 00:16:05.33\00:16:07.66 - [Aaron] I had a quick question in Matthew 24:20. 00:16:09.10\00:16:14.10 It says, "And pray that your flight may not be in winter 00:16:15.57\00:16:17.87 or on the Sabbath." 00:16:17.87\00:16:19.07 It's obvious that you don't wanna be running in the winter, 00:16:20.48\00:16:23.68 but why would you not wanna run on the Sabbath? 00:16:23.68\00:16:26.78 - Well, for one thing, 00:16:28.05\00:16:30.12 the Sabbath is supposed to be a day of rest. 00:16:30.12\00:16:33.72 You wouldn't want it to be a day of anxiety 00:16:33.72\00:16:35.82 and fleeing for your life. 00:16:35.82\00:16:37.36 So it would sort of be the antithesis 00:16:37.36\00:16:39.79 of the purpose of the Sabbath. 00:16:39.79\00:16:42.13 You don't wanna be in a situation where you're 00:16:42.13\00:16:44.83 challenged with that kind of decision. 00:16:44.83\00:16:46.33 Soldiers are ready to go to war, but in Israel, 00:16:47.50\00:16:51.01 they really don't like going to war on Sabbath, 00:16:51.01\00:16:53.44 but they will, if they have to. 00:16:53.44\00:16:55.01 And I've heard people say that this is a dual prophecy, 00:16:56.41\00:16:59.41 because sometimes on Sabbath, it talks about Nehemiah. 00:16:59.41\00:17:03.28 They threaten to shut the gates on Sabbath 00:17:03.28\00:17:05.35 because the people were going out and buying and selling. 00:17:05.35\00:17:07.82 I don't think that's the best argument for this verse 00:17:07.82\00:17:10.39 because Jesus is looking down in history, hundreds, 00:17:10.39\00:17:14.00 if not thousands of years. 00:17:14.00\00:17:15.46 So, I think mainly it's just saying, 00:17:16.67\00:17:19.60 fleeing for your life is not a good restful practice. 00:17:19.60\00:17:24.31 - And in the immediate context of the verse 00:17:24.31\00:17:26.64 is talking about the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:17:26.64\00:17:28.41 where the Romans surrounded the city. 00:17:28.41\00:17:30.61 And the idea that the gate would be open during the week 00:17:30.61\00:17:34.18 and then closed on the Sabbath. 00:17:34.18\00:17:36.25 Well, that doesn't really make sense. 00:17:36.25\00:17:37.52 If the enemy's outside the walls, 00:17:37.52\00:17:39.09 the gate would've been closed all the time. 00:17:39.09\00:17:40.92 So, this wasn't just an admonition 00:17:40.92\00:17:44.39 that pray that you don't have to flee on the Sabbath 00:17:44.39\00:17:46.03 because the gate would be closed. 00:17:46.03\00:17:47.23 But rather, the idea is, 00:17:47.23\00:17:48.56 if you're gonna gonna be keeping the Sabbath, 00:17:48.56\00:17:49.80 which the disciples of Christ 00:17:49.80\00:17:51.77 and the Christians were to be doing, and this is some 70 AD, 00:17:51.77\00:17:55.77 it means that the Sabbath was still a special day 00:17:55.77\00:17:58.87 to have worship in communion. 00:17:58.87\00:18:00.38 And so it has relevance and importance. 00:18:00.38\00:18:02.21 - Right. 00:18:02.21\00:18:03.45 And not in the winter because there's no food 00:18:03.45\00:18:04.68 in the fields to glean or harvest. 00:18:04.68\00:18:07.88 - And according to history, Pastor Doug, 00:18:07.88\00:18:09.35 I don't believe the Christians who recognize that sign 00:18:09.35\00:18:12.65 and listened to the words of Jesus, 00:18:12.65\00:18:14.16 when it came time for them to flee from Jerusalem, 00:18:14.16\00:18:16.93 history bears fact that they didn't have to flee 00:18:16.93\00:18:18.99 in winter, neither on the Sabbath. 00:18:18.99\00:18:20.56 So they praises were answered. 00:18:20.56\00:18:22.16 God took care of them. - That's right. 00:18:22.16\00:18:23.77 - Next caller that we have is Juan, 00:18:23.77\00:18:24.87 listening from Massachusetts. 00:18:24.87\00:18:26.30 Juan, welcome to the program. 00:18:26.30\00:18:27.84 - [Juan] Hi, thank you guys. 00:18:29.14\00:18:30.51 First, I wanna say I'm a big fan 00:18:30.51\00:18:32.77 of Pastor Batchelor and you Ross. 00:18:32.77\00:18:36.21 And I pray that God keeps blessing you both. 00:18:36.21\00:18:39.28 - Thank you. 00:18:39.28\00:18:40.18 - [Juan] So my question is, 00:18:41.65\00:18:44.05 is it possible in today's day and age 00:18:44.05\00:18:47.49 to be translated into heaven before Jesus comes 00:18:48.89\00:18:52.76 like Enoch and Elijah did? 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.86 - Well, the Bible says all things are possible with God. 00:18:56.36\00:19:00.04 That would certainly be the exception. 00:19:01.20\00:19:03.64 The rule is, it's appointed under man wants 00:19:03.64\00:19:05.51 to die in the judgment, unless you're alive 00:19:05.51\00:19:07.41 when the Lord returns. 00:19:07.41\00:19:08.71 Someone might be caught up in vision, just as John was, 00:19:11.05\00:19:15.78 and prophets may be shown a vision of heaven, 00:19:15.78\00:19:17.99 but to literally be taken up like Enoch, 00:19:17.99\00:19:21.02 I don't anticipate that's gonna happen very much 00:19:22.52\00:19:24.59 in the last days. 00:19:24.59\00:19:25.86 Especially now, 'cuz people would assume 00:19:25.86\00:19:27.56 that the secret rapture had taken place, 00:19:27.56\00:19:29.86 and only one person was ready. 00:19:29.86\00:19:31.37 So, anyway, any thoughts on that? 00:19:32.53\00:19:35.24 - Yeah, I'm just gonna add to that. 00:19:35.24\00:19:36.81 It's significant that Elijah was taken to heaven, 00:19:36.81\00:19:39.61 and that Moses who died and was resurrected 00:19:39.61\00:19:41.88 and was taken to heaven, and they served as types. 00:19:41.88\00:19:44.98 For the second coming when Christ comes again, 00:19:44.98\00:19:46.95 you'll have those who'll be translated without seeing death, 00:19:46.95\00:19:49.28 symbolized by Elijah. 00:19:49.28\00:19:50.99 And you have those who are resurrected symbolized by Moses. 00:19:50.99\00:19:53.76 - And Enoch, it says, he was the seventh from Adam. 00:19:53.76\00:19:56.52 - And he was taken up. 00:19:56.52\00:19:58.19 - So he's like the last generation that he's 00:19:58.19\00:19:59.49 resurrected. - That's right. - So they're all three types. 00:19:59.49\00:20:00.46 - Mm-hmm. - Yeah. 00:20:00.46\00:20:01.36 - There's significance to that. 00:20:01.36\00:20:02.63 - So God doesn't really need the types anymore. 00:20:02.63\00:20:03.97 So probably not. 00:20:03.97\00:20:05.17 - Yeah, I mean, I think we close enough 00:20:05.17\00:20:06.94 to the end of time now that- 00:20:06.94\00:20:08.17 - You just wait for the real time. 00:20:08.17\00:20:08.97 - Just wait, yeah. 00:20:08.97\00:20:10.14 - That's right. - We're almost there. 00:20:10.14\00:20:11.77 All right, thank you for your call, Juan. 00:20:11.77\00:20:13.04 We've got Phil listening in Arizona. 00:20:13.04\00:20:15.71 Phil, welcome to the program. 00:20:15.71\00:20:17.71 - [Phil] Thank you. 00:20:17.71\00:20:19.61 I just wanna thank both of you guys 00:20:19.61\00:20:20.75 for your program you present. 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.35 It's been so helpful for me. 00:20:22.35\00:20:24.09 My question is the question of speaking in tongues. 00:20:24.09\00:20:29.06 I've been told that it's evidence 00:20:29.06\00:20:31.46 that you have the Holy Spirit 00:20:31.46\00:20:33.66 and it's something that it's needed. 00:20:33.66\00:20:36.70 I guess it's proof of the Holy Spirit. 00:20:36.70\00:20:38.70 I've heard people that were speaking in tongues, 00:20:38.70\00:20:41.47 but couldn't understand what they're saying. 00:20:41.47\00:20:44.57 And there was no one there pretty much 00:20:44.57\00:20:46.24 to interpreted to what's going on. 00:20:46.24\00:20:48.84 I thought it was more along the lines I read in Acts 00:20:48.84\00:20:51.51 that there was a myriad of people there 00:20:51.51\00:20:53.65 at the times of speaking different languages 00:20:53.65\00:20:55.72 and they were to talk to all of them 00:20:55.72\00:20:57.29 in their native tongues. 00:20:57.29\00:20:58.82 So, if you can explain that to me, I'll appreciate it. 00:20:58.82\00:21:01.49 - Yeah, speaking in tongues is a gift of the Spirit 00:21:01.49\00:21:04.56 that is often misunderstood. 00:21:04.56\00:21:06.46 To make it very simple, Jesus told the apostles 00:21:07.66\00:21:10.50 and you'll read this in Mark chapter 16. 00:21:10.50\00:21:12.27 He said, "You will speak with other tongues." 00:21:12.27\00:21:15.40 The Holy Spirit would come on 'em 00:21:15.40\00:21:16.81 and one of the signs would be, 00:21:16.81\00:21:18.01 they would speak with other tongues. 00:21:18.01\00:21:19.54 What does that mean? 00:21:19.54\00:21:21.04 Well, they were bright, but not formally educated. 00:21:21.04\00:21:25.18 And very few of them spoke other languages. 00:21:25.18\00:21:27.62 They all probably spoke Aramaic, 00:21:27.62\00:21:29.28 maybe a little bit of Latin and Greek 00:21:29.28\00:21:31.25 'cuz they were occupied by those two forces. 00:21:31.25\00:21:34.46 But on the day of Pentecost, 00:21:35.82\00:21:37.29 the Lord miraculously gave the apostles 00:21:37.29\00:21:40.33 and those in the upper room, 00:21:40.33\00:21:42.06 the ability to speak in other foreign tongues. 00:21:42.06\00:21:44.83 Meaning, tongues of people in the world 00:21:44.83\00:21:47.54 that they had not formally studied or known 00:21:47.54\00:21:49.80 because they were visiting Jews 00:21:49.80\00:21:51.44 from every nation under heaven. 00:21:51.44\00:21:52.77 This is Acts chapter two. 00:21:52.77\00:21:54.11 In Jerusalem, worshiping on Pentecost, 00:21:54.11\00:21:56.71 they heard the disciple speaking in their tongues 00:21:56.71\00:21:59.68 from the countries where they had come, 00:21:59.68\00:22:02.12 and they accepted Jesus and then took the gospel back 00:22:02.12\00:22:04.85 with them to these other countries. 00:22:04.85\00:22:06.89 So it was a brilliant way to spread the gospel. 00:22:06.89\00:22:08.86 They didn't have time to go 00:22:08.86\00:22:10.13 through a cram course in foreign languages. 00:22:10.13\00:22:12.86 The Holy Spirit gave them this ability. 00:22:12.86\00:22:14.76 And when you read in First Corinthians 14, 00:22:16.26\00:22:19.30 it makes an emphasis there that we're really not 00:22:19.30\00:22:22.17 to be speaking unless people understand what we're saying. 00:22:22.17\00:22:25.91 Paul said, "I'd rather say five words 00:22:25.91\00:22:27.58 with my understanding that I might instruct others, 00:22:27.58\00:22:29.98 than 10,000 in an unknown tongue." 00:22:29.98\00:22:32.51 And he says, "If the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, 00:22:32.51\00:22:35.22 who will prepare for the battle? 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.39 And if you're going to speak in a different language, 00:22:37.39\00:22:39.79 make sure that it's translated, 00:22:39.79\00:22:42.19 and you may need two translators." 00:22:42.19\00:22:44.23 And he's talking to the Corinthian church 00:22:44.23\00:22:45.76 where there are multiple language groups there, 00:22:45.76\00:22:48.16 and the services had become very confusing. 00:22:48.16\00:22:50.53 And so, Paul only addressed the speaking in tongues here 00:22:50.53\00:22:53.34 in First Corinthians. 00:22:53.34\00:22:54.34 Peter never talks about it. 00:22:55.40\00:22:56.87 John never talks about it. 00:22:58.27\00:22:59.87 Matthew never talks about it. 00:22:59.87\00:23:01.14 Luke never, other than Acts chapter two. 00:23:01.14\00:23:03.81 Luke doesn't talk about it. 00:23:03.81\00:23:04.78 I guess Acts 10 and Acts 19 tell 00:23:04.78\00:23:07.78 of a case where they spoke in tongues, 00:23:07.78\00:23:09.88 but there are other language groups present. 00:23:09.88\00:23:12.12 So, the fruit of the spirit is not tongues. 00:23:12.12\00:23:15.32 The evidence of the Spirit are the gifts of the Spirit. 00:23:15.32\00:23:18.36 Love, joy. 00:23:18.36\00:23:19.63 Jesus said, "You'll know them, not by the fruits, 00:23:19.63\00:23:20.96 but by the gifts." 00:23:20.96\00:23:22.43 Love, joy, peace. 00:23:22.43\00:23:23.37 Galatians chapter five 00:23:23.37\00:23:24.60 is where you find the gifts of the spirit. 00:23:24.60\00:23:26.63 That's the evidence for the Holy Spirit. 00:23:26.63\00:23:28.97 - And if you think of the word, tongue, 00:23:28.97\00:23:30.27 just think of the word language. 00:23:30.27\00:23:31.74 And the purpose of a language is to communicate. 00:23:31.74\00:23:34.18 And in this case, it's communicating the gospel. 00:23:34.18\00:23:36.38 - [Doug] Right. 00:23:36.38\00:23:37.78 - And it was demonstrating in a beautiful way 00:23:37.78\00:23:38.68 there on Pentecost, 00:23:38.68\00:23:39.95 we had representatives from the whole realm. 00:23:39.95\00:23:42.28 They heard them preach the gospel in their own language. 00:23:42.28\00:23:44.69 They were were able to take it back and share it. 00:23:44.69\00:23:46.89 And Pastor Doug, 00:23:46.89\00:23:48.12 are there still needs today for the same gift? 00:23:48.12\00:23:50.89 The gift of tongues? 00:23:50.89\00:23:51.96 Is that still relevant 00:23:51.96\00:23:53.70 or does God not give the gift of tongues anymore? 00:23:53.70\00:23:56.43 Or does He give it in a different way? 00:23:56.43\00:23:58.67 - Well, sometimes I think people get the gift of tongues 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.77 in a practical sense in that they've got a natural ability 00:24:00.77\00:24:04.44 for languages and they're blessed with the ability 00:24:04.44\00:24:07.64 to translate and speak. 00:24:07.64\00:24:10.35 I saw some people in church just yesterday 00:24:10.35\00:24:12.91 that they spoke like four languages. 00:24:12.91\00:24:15.88 And it's always very impressive to me 00:24:15.88\00:24:18.05 when people have that gift. 00:24:18.05\00:24:20.09 I did an amazing fact one time about a man 00:24:21.26\00:24:22.89 that spoke about 100 languages. 00:24:22.89\00:24:24.73 They just picked it up and had a photographic memory. 00:24:26.19\00:24:28.96 Anyway, we have a book on that, 00:24:28.96\00:24:30.27 that talks about the gift of tongues, 00:24:30.27\00:24:31.70 and it's called "Understanding Tongues." 00:24:31.70\00:24:33.64 We'll send you a free copy. 00:24:33.64\00:24:35.07 - This is all about wisdom. 00:32:50.23\00:32:52.00 And people sometimes just read these verses 00:32:52.00\00:32:54.84 and they don't realize that this is a whole passage, 00:32:54.84\00:32:57.31 talking about how valuable wisdom is. 00:32:57.31\00:33:00.64 Of course coming from Solomon, 00:33:01.51\00:33:02.78 the wisest king, that would be appropriate. 00:33:02.78\00:33:04.68 Does that make sense? 00:33:05.98\00:33:07.38 - Yeah, it makes a lot of sense, thank you. 00:33:09.58\00:33:11.09 - All right, hey, thank you so much. 00:33:11.09\00:33:13.15 - Next caller that we have Steve listening from Missouri. 00:33:13.15\00:33:15.69 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:33:15.69\00:33:17.19 - [Steve] Yes, thank you, pastors. 00:33:18.29\00:33:20.33 My question is, I'm confused about the city of David. 00:33:20.33\00:33:24.53 In Old Testament, seems like it was Jerusalem. 00:33:24.53\00:33:27.74 When he conquered Jerusalem, 00:33:29.07\00:33:31.04 it said it became the city of David. 00:33:31.04\00:33:32.94 And then when we go to Luke, 00:33:32.94\00:33:35.01 I think is when the angels are talking to the shepherds. 00:33:35.01\00:33:37.18 It says, "Your savior is born in the city of David," 00:33:37.18\00:33:40.42 and then that's Bethlehem. 00:33:40.42\00:33:42.15 So can you clear that up for me? 00:33:42.15\00:33:44.25 - Yeah, you've asked a good question that I've had myself. 00:33:44.25\00:33:46.59 Yeah, I wish I could say that I know all the answers, 00:33:46.59\00:33:49.96 but I've noticed that also sometimes it refers 00:33:49.96\00:33:52.79 to as Jerusalem as the city of David. 00:33:52.79\00:33:54.60 Sometimes, or one time, or a couple times, 00:33:54.60\00:33:56.77 it talks about David being, of course, born in Bethlehem, 00:33:56.77\00:33:59.57 Jesus born in the city of David, 00:33:59.57\00:34:01.77 meaning where David was born. 00:34:01.77\00:34:04.07 David wanted his capital to be in Jerusalem, 00:34:04.07\00:34:06.78 and then keep in mind Bethlehem is not far from Jerusalem. 00:34:06.78\00:34:10.55 So the phrase, city of David, is used for both cities. 00:34:10.55\00:34:15.05 That's the only way I can answer that. 00:34:15.05\00:34:17.39 - And just to add to that, 00:34:17.39\00:34:18.55 I think the phrase, city of David, 00:34:18.55\00:34:20.06 with reference to Jerusalem, was the temporary name. 00:34:20.06\00:34:22.79 Because it was conquered. 00:34:22.79\00:34:24.23 The old Jebusite fortress conquered by David, 00:34:24.23\00:34:26.33 named at the city of David. 00:34:26.33\00:34:27.86 But it didn't take long before it became known as Jerusalem. 00:34:27.86\00:34:30.63 And then once it was sort of adopted as Jerusalem, 00:34:30.63\00:34:34.24 rarely is it referred as the city of David anymore. 00:34:34.24\00:34:37.41 It served as Jerusalem, 00:34:37.41\00:34:38.77 especially when the temple was built there, 00:34:38.77\00:34:40.41 as the dwelling place of God. 00:34:40.41\00:34:41.98 So the city of David from that time onwards, 00:34:41.98\00:34:44.08 seems to be more related to Bethlehem, 00:34:44.08\00:34:46.78 the birthplace of David, than actually Jerusalem. 00:34:46.78\00:34:49.25 'Cuz Jerusalem replaced the city of David, so to speak. 00:34:49.25\00:34:52.19 - [Steve] Where was David buried? 00:34:53.99\00:34:55.59 They buried all the Kings in the city of David. 00:34:55.59\00:34:58.29 I thought they said that too. 00:34:58.29\00:34:59.49 - Yeah, David is buried in Jerusalem. 00:34:59.49\00:35:00.96 - In Jerusalem. - [Steve] In Jerusalem, okay. 00:35:00.96\00:35:02.90 - So they do refer to it, even after the death of David, 00:35:02.90\00:35:05.43 sometimes they refer to Jerusalem as the city of David. 00:35:05.43\00:35:08.80 'Cuz it was the city he chose as the capital 00:35:08.80\00:35:12.07 and where he chose to build the temple. 00:35:12.07\00:35:13.74 That was the love of his heart 00:35:13.74\00:35:15.68 is to have a temple for God's glory. 00:35:15.68\00:35:18.28 So I've studied this 00:35:18.28\00:35:20.12 and I've just seen it's interchangeable, 00:35:20.12\00:35:22.18 is the only thing that I can come up with. 00:35:22.18\00:35:23.69 Sometimes it's talking about the city where David was born, 00:35:23.69\00:35:26.39 and calling Bethlehem a city back in David's day 00:35:26.39\00:35:29.22 was sort of funny 'cuz it was like a little Pueblo. 00:35:29.22\00:35:31.49 It wasn't very big. 00:35:31.49\00:35:33.36 And then later, he moved the capital to Jerusalem, 00:35:33.36\00:35:37.77 and that was called the city of David. 00:35:38.93\00:35:40.37 But they're not far from each other, either. 00:35:40.37\00:35:42.20 - And wasn't the city of David a portion of Jerusalem? 00:35:42.20\00:35:44.71 Wasn't the whole temple Mount, 00:35:44.71\00:35:46.64 it was the original Jebusite fortress. 00:35:46.64\00:35:48.31 - Yeah, we went and looked at it. 00:35:48.31\00:35:49.24 - And then it was expanded. 00:35:49.24\00:35:50.71 I remember in Jerusalem, there was one area they referred 00:35:50.71\00:35:52.58 to as more the city of David, not the whole part. 00:35:52.58\00:35:54.28 - 'Cuz he had built on to the Jebusite city, yeah. 00:35:54.28\00:35:57.22 - Interesting. 00:35:57.22\00:35:58.45 All right, thanks for our call, Steve. 00:35:58.45\00:35:59.59 We've got Becky listening from Michigan. 00:35:59.59\00:36:01.56 Becky, welcome to the program. 00:36:01.56\00:36:03.06 - Hello, how you guys doing? 00:36:04.16\00:36:05.89 - Doing well, how can we help you tonight? 00:36:05.89\00:36:08.10 - [Becky] Question is, I'm struggling with a diet. 00:36:10.20\00:36:13.37 I'm trying to lose weight to stay healthy 00:36:13.37\00:36:15.60 and I'm really struggling with it. 00:36:15.60\00:36:17.61 I'm going by a Bible scripture 00:36:17.61\00:36:19.21 in Philippians chapter four verse 13. 00:36:19.21\00:36:22.94 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." 00:36:22.94\00:36:26.45 Maybe I can get some advice from you guys. 00:36:26.45\00:36:29.28 - Yeah, it is a struggle, and especially any habit. 00:36:30.75\00:36:35.32 And changing your habits of eating as with any habit, 00:36:36.76\00:36:40.63 it's like you're trying to crawl out of a rut 00:36:42.16\00:36:44.07 that you've been in. 00:36:44.07\00:36:45.83 Now, keep in mind, every time that you say no 00:36:45.83\00:36:49.14 to the temptation to eat either something or time 00:36:49.14\00:36:52.04 or an amount you shouldn't be eating, 00:36:52.04\00:36:53.94 which is usually that covers every aspect of a diet, 00:36:53.94\00:36:56.54 you make it easier next time. 00:36:58.08\00:37:00.22 Let me see if I can put it this way for you 00:37:00.22\00:37:02.05 and that might help you. 00:37:02.05\00:37:04.12 You have been walking down a trail, 00:37:04.12\00:37:06.32 a particular trail for years, 00:37:06.32\00:37:09.26 and you've gotten used to it, 00:37:09.26\00:37:10.53 and it's cleared, and it's easy, 00:37:10.53\00:37:11.73 but the trail's going the wrong way. 00:37:11.73\00:37:14.13 Now you've gotta plow a new trail, 00:37:14.13\00:37:17.03 but there's thorn bushes and things 00:37:17.03\00:37:19.23 that are blocking the trail. 00:37:19.23\00:37:20.47 And the first time you go through, 00:37:20.47\00:37:21.94 you gotta hack your way through and you're tripping, 00:37:21.94\00:37:23.71 and it's a real problem. 00:37:23.71\00:37:25.17 But you know what? 00:37:25.17\00:37:26.41 The next time you take that trail, 00:37:26.41\00:37:27.68 you did plow things down a little bit. 00:37:27.68\00:37:29.51 It gets a little easier. 00:37:29.51\00:37:30.78 And the next time, it gets a little easier. 00:37:30.78\00:37:32.98 And every time you say no to temptation 00:37:32.98\00:37:35.55 and you say yes to the right thing, 00:37:35.55\00:37:37.52 it makes it easier the next time. 00:37:37.52\00:37:39.85 So, one way that we overcome through the power of God, 00:37:39.85\00:37:43.19 is one moment at a time. 00:37:43.19\00:37:45.39 It's day by day, sometimes hour by hour. 00:37:45.39\00:37:47.76 For me, and I often refer back to this. 00:37:48.96\00:37:50.53 One of my biggest struggles was smoking. 00:37:50.53\00:37:55.54 And they say sometimes quitting smoking 00:37:56.64\00:37:58.81 is as hard as heroin. 00:37:58.81\00:38:00.08 And I struggled. 00:38:00.88\00:38:02.14 And boy, the first few days I'd quit smoking, 00:38:02.14\00:38:04.88 I'd think about it just every few minutes. 00:38:04.88\00:38:07.18 I couldn't get it outta my mind. 00:38:07.18\00:38:08.55 I could barely make it from hour to hour. 00:38:08.55\00:38:10.59 And I fell several times. 00:38:11.45\00:38:13.72 But finally I quit and said, enough's enough. 00:38:13.72\00:38:16.06 And I made it a day, then two, then three, 00:38:16.06\00:38:18.26 and now it's been 40 years. 00:38:18.26\00:38:20.23 So, you can do it. 00:38:20.23\00:38:21.70 And I have a video. 00:38:21.70\00:38:24.77 I think pastor Ross heard it. 00:38:24.77\00:38:26.53 I actually had a food addiction. 00:38:27.67\00:38:30.01 And I shared this video of how I overcame my addiction. 00:38:30.01\00:38:35.01 All I'm gonna do is tell you the title of it. 00:38:35.01\00:38:36.78 It's a Doug Batchelor Cold Confession. 00:38:36.78\00:38:39.88 If you want to take a listen to that, Becky, 00:38:39.88\00:38:42.08 just go to YouTube, type in Doug Batchelor Cold Confession. 00:38:42.08\00:38:46.09 And I'll tell you kinda, 00:38:46.09\00:38:47.39 you'll hear me confess what my addiction was, 00:38:48.59\00:38:50.83 and how the Lord help me get the victory. 00:38:50.83\00:38:54.13 And praise God he's helped me keep the victory 00:38:54.13\00:38:55.96 for about eight years now. 00:38:55.96\00:38:58.23 Anyway- 00:38:58.23\00:38:59.47 - Absolutely, it's a great sermon, 00:38:59.47\00:39:00.77 really encouraging for a lot of people. 00:39:00.77\00:39:02.30 I remember Pastor Doug, when you actually got up 00:39:02.30\00:39:04.67 and preached that sermon. 00:39:04.67\00:39:06.11 You could hear a pin drop in the congregation. 00:39:06.11\00:39:08.41 At least at first when you said, 00:39:08.41\00:39:10.25 "I'm gonna make a confession," you got everyone's attention. 00:39:10.25\00:39:12.18 - People wanna hear the minister confess. 00:39:12.18\00:39:13.78 They don't know what to think. 00:39:13.78\00:39:14.88 - But it was extremely encouraging. 00:39:14.88\00:39:16.52 And yeah, just a great blessing. 00:39:16.52\00:39:17.89 And take a look at that if you haven't, Becky. 00:39:17.89\00:39:20.22 I think you'll be blessed. 00:39:20.22\00:39:21.76 If you have a Bible question, friends, 00:39:21.76\00:39:23.26 we've got all about 15, 16 minutes left. 00:39:23.26\00:39:26.09 And if you have a question that you're wondering 00:39:26.09\00:39:29.10 about the Bible or the Christian life, 00:39:29.10\00:39:30.90 the number to call is 800-463-7297. 00:39:30.90\00:39:35.30 That's 800-463-7297. 00:39:35.30\00:39:38.77 Next caller that we have is Taylor listening from Virginia. 00:39:38.77\00:39:41.78 Taylor, welcome to the program. 00:39:41.78\00:39:43.95 - [Taylor] Hello? 00:39:43.95\00:39:45.55 - Hi, how are you? 00:39:45.55\00:39:46.48 You're on. 00:39:47.88\00:39:50.75 - [Taylor] I'm good. 00:39:50.75\00:39:51.75 I have a question. 00:39:53.25\00:39:55.22 I don't really know if counts much 00:39:55.22\00:39:57.86 as a Christian question in general, 00:39:57.86\00:40:00.76 but it's more about just what it is once we get to heaven. 00:40:00.76\00:40:05.43 - Okay, fire away. 00:40:08.34\00:40:09.84 - [Taylor] All right, my question is about the amount 00:40:11.24\00:40:13.78 of free will we have heaven. 00:40:13.78\00:40:16.04 I was always confused growing up in the church 00:40:16.04\00:40:21.02 where we were told that we had like free will 00:40:21.02\00:40:26.02 to do pretty much anything we wanted. 00:40:27.19\00:40:28.62 And yeah, it was always into boundaries, 00:40:28.62\00:40:31.69 what was good and right and moral, 00:40:31.69\00:40:34.56 which is something that humanity in general 00:40:34.56\00:40:36.87 is just not always good at, to say the least. 00:40:36.87\00:40:41.30 I was wondering if, once we reach heaven, 00:40:42.74\00:40:45.71 are we beyond the reality of sin completely? 00:40:45.71\00:40:49.78 Or are we just absolved from it continually? 00:40:49.78\00:40:53.05 But I don't know if that's- 00:40:53.05\00:40:55.62 - Yeah, no, it's a good question. 00:40:55.62\00:40:56.92 I think I understand what you're saying. 00:40:56.92\00:40:58.19 Will we still be free moral agents in heaven? 00:40:58.19\00:41:00.32 Or since we're beyond the possibility of being tempted, 00:41:00.32\00:41:03.69 does that mean we're no longer free? 00:41:03.69\00:41:05.49 I might answer that, 00:41:06.73\00:41:08.20 and hopefully I'm rightly restating your question, 00:41:08.20\00:41:11.27 but I might answer that by saying, 00:41:11.27\00:41:13.77 there is a law that says 00:41:16.14\00:41:17.47 you're not supposed to murder your children. 00:41:17.47\00:41:20.41 Most people don't think very much about that law 00:41:20.41\00:41:23.75 because most people don't wanna murder their children. 00:41:23.75\00:41:26.38 It's a very bizarre perversion 00:41:26.38\00:41:28.65 when it's one in a million parents 00:41:28.65\00:41:31.89 that would think such a thing. 00:41:31.89\00:41:33.59 Because most parents, they love their children. 00:41:33.59\00:41:36.76 It's the last thing that would ever come into their mind. 00:41:36.76\00:41:38.89 Now, they're free to murder their children if you wanted to. 00:41:38.89\00:41:43.13 I mean, you know what I'm saying? 00:41:43.13\00:41:45.50 They've got the ability, 00:41:45.50\00:41:47.10 but they don't think about it 'cuz they love their children. 00:41:47.10\00:41:50.41 In heaven, we'll still have that freedom to sin. 00:41:50.41\00:41:53.44 But now we are so full of the love of God 00:41:53.44\00:41:55.54 and love for one another, 00:41:55.54\00:41:56.95 that when you look at the 10 commandments, 00:41:56.95\00:41:58.45 we are keeping them now because we love. 00:41:58.45\00:42:01.58 And so, are we still free moral agents? 00:42:01.58\00:42:04.05 Yes. 00:42:04.05\00:42:05.29 You can read in the book of Nahum, 00:42:05.29\00:42:06.79 that sin will not rise up the second time. 00:42:06.79\00:42:09.36 Jesus, when He rose from the dead, 00:42:09.36\00:42:10.86 He still had the scars from His crucifixion in His hands. 00:42:10.86\00:42:14.10 That'll be a perpetual reminder of what sin costs. 00:42:14.10\00:42:17.27 And we won't want to ever sin again. 00:42:17.27\00:42:19.70 Not to mention the devil's gone. 00:42:19.70\00:42:22.04 - Absolutely, and again, 00:42:22.04\00:42:23.87 you can't have true love without freedom. 00:42:23.87\00:42:26.41 And the whole experiment with sin proves that. 00:42:26.41\00:42:28.98 And the devil will take worship any way he can get it, 00:42:28.98\00:42:31.61 but God can only accept worship that is freely given. 00:42:31.61\00:42:34.35 Well, that's true for the rest of eternity. 00:42:34.35\00:42:36.45 God still will accept worship freely. 00:42:36.45\00:42:38.45 Given, of course, we won't want to not worship Him 00:42:38.45\00:42:40.72 because we've seen what sin can do, 00:42:40.72\00:42:42.79 and that's the difference. - And we'll love Him. 00:42:42.79\00:42:43.73 It'll be our greatest joy. 00:42:43.73\00:42:44.69 - Yep, absolutely. 00:42:44.69\00:42:46.09 Good question. 00:42:46.09\00:42:46.93 Thank you, Taylor. 00:42:46.93\00:42:48.00 We've got Sean listening from Oklahoma. 00:42:48.00\00:42:50.13 Sean, welcome to the program. 00:42:50.13\00:42:52.43 - [Sean] Hey guys, what's going on? 00:42:52.43\00:42:54.50 - Well, we're living day by day with the Lord. 00:42:54.50\00:42:57.14 How are you doing? 00:42:57.14\00:42:58.64 - [Sean] It's really good to talk to you, guys. 00:42:58.64\00:42:59.87 Doug, you pretty much saved my life. 00:42:59.87\00:43:02.58 - Well, the Lord did it, 00:43:02.58\00:43:03.85 but I'm glad if I could be involved. 00:43:03.85\00:43:05.48 Praise God. - [Sean] I know that's right. 00:43:05.48\00:43:06.98 But I just wanna say thank you 00:43:06.98\00:43:08.58 from the bottom of my heart, guys. 00:43:08.58\00:43:10.05 I watch Amazing Facts and I follow you guys 00:43:10.05\00:43:12.59 and listen to YouTube all the time. 00:43:12.59\00:43:15.26 - Well, praise the Lord. 00:43:15.26\00:43:16.76 I wish everyone was listening to our programs on YouTube, 00:43:16.76\00:43:18.46 but I know they're watching other stuff. 00:43:18.46\00:43:20.73 - [Sean] I'm on my knees every night praying 00:43:20.73\00:43:23.06 that your message goes a little bit more 00:43:23.06\00:43:25.03 around the world than it already is. 00:43:25.03\00:43:26.70 - Oh, that means a lot. 00:43:26.70\00:43:27.64 We appreciate that, thank you. 00:43:27.64\00:43:29.17 - [Sean] All right, my question is, 00:43:30.31\00:43:32.27 I know it's called the millennial reign, 00:43:32.27\00:43:34.21 and millennial means 1000 years, 00:43:34.21\00:43:36.68 but is there anything gonna happen after that? 00:43:36.68\00:43:38.98 - Yeah, well, we'll offer you a lesson on that 00:43:40.35\00:43:43.25 in just a minute, but at the conclusion of the 1000 years 00:43:43.25\00:43:47.02 and for our friends that are listening, 00:43:47.02\00:43:48.29 you find the verses on the 1000 years, 00:43:48.29\00:43:51.03 sometimes called the millennium. 00:43:51.03\00:43:52.33 The word millennium is mille, ennium. 00:43:52.33\00:43:54.03 It just means 1000 years. 00:43:54.03\00:43:55.60 You'll find that in Revelation chapter 20. 00:43:55.60\00:43:58.03 And you can find illusions to the 1000 years 00:43:58.03\00:44:00.94 in a few other places in the Bible. 00:44:00.94\00:44:02.54 But most of it's there in Revelation 20. 00:44:02.54\00:44:04.27 And it tells us that the devil is tied up for 1000 years. 00:44:04.27\00:44:08.71 And after the 1000 years, he's loose for a little season. 00:44:08.71\00:44:13.01 And it says the rest of the dead don't live again 00:44:13.01\00:44:15.05 till the 1000 years are finished. 00:44:15.05\00:44:16.65 So at the end of the 1000 years, 00:44:16.65\00:44:18.22 the rest of the dead live again, 00:44:18.22\00:44:19.69 that's how the lost, dead in Christ rise first. 00:44:19.69\00:44:22.76 If all the dead in Christ rise first, 00:44:22.76\00:44:24.26 the only dead that are left are the dead out of Christ 00:44:24.26\00:44:26.39 are the lost, the wicked. 00:44:26.39\00:44:28.13 They're resurrected, 00:44:28.13\00:44:29.60 and Satan is now now loose 'cuz he has someone to tempt. 00:44:29.60\00:44:33.17 The Bible refers to this mass of all the lost 00:44:33.17\00:44:36.20 who've ever lived in the resurrection of the lost, 00:44:36.20\00:44:39.54 or the second resurrection, as Gog and Magog. 00:44:40.84\00:44:43.68 Those are ancient enemies of God's people. 00:44:43.68\00:44:46.65 And the devil will stir them to launch an assault 00:44:46.65\00:44:51.55 on the city of God. 00:44:51.55\00:44:53.15 They surround the beloved city, the camp of the saints, 00:44:53.15\00:44:55.72 and fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them. 00:44:55.72\00:44:59.16 Now, you'll also find that passage in Revelation 20, 00:44:59.16\00:45:04.13 is also taken from Ezekiel 37 and 38. 00:45:05.33\00:45:07.70 Talks about Gog and Magog, 00:45:07.70\00:45:09.54 they surround my people like a cloud. 00:45:09.54\00:45:11.71 Very same words that you're gonna find in Revelation. 00:45:11.71\00:45:14.04 And then God fights for His people. 00:45:14.04\00:45:16.41 Then God is gonna create a new heavens 00:45:16.41\00:45:18.81 and a new earth following that. 00:45:18.81\00:45:21.02 So, it's a very interesting time that we have a lesson 00:45:21.02\00:45:25.49 that talks about that "1000 Years of Peace." 00:45:25.49\00:45:27.79 Is that still the title? 00:45:27.79\00:45:29.02 - It is, it's called "1000 Years of Peace." 00:45:29.02\00:45:30.83 It's one of our Amazing Facts study guides. 00:45:30.83\00:45:33.16 Gets into quite a bit of detail 00:45:33.16\00:45:34.66 about what happens during that 1000 years, 00:45:34.66\00:45:37.27 what'll happen at the end of the 1000 years. 00:45:37.27\00:45:39.50 To receive it, all you have to do 00:45:39.50\00:45:40.64 is call the number 800-835-6747. 00:45:40.64\00:45:44.84 That is our resource phone line 800-835-6747. 00:45:44.84\00:45:48.88 Ask for the study guide. 00:45:48.88\00:45:50.08 It's called a "1000 Years of Peace." 00:45:50.08\00:45:52.38 And we'll be happy to send that 00:45:52.38\00:45:53.31 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:45:53.31\00:45:55.68 And a great study, really exciting subject. 00:45:55.68\00:45:58.85 So thanks for your call, Sean. 00:45:58.85\00:46:00.56 We've got Milo listening from Rhode Island. 00:46:00.56\00:46:03.99 Milo, welcome to the program. 00:46:03.99\00:46:05.49 Or Milo. 00:46:05.49\00:46:06.53 - [Milo] Hey, can you hear me? 00:46:49.64\00:46:54.44 - Well, I know exactly how you feel. 00:46:55.54\00:46:58.15 Well, I think I do. 00:46:58.15\00:46:59.68 But I was in the same boat after I came to the Lord. 00:46:59.68\00:47:01.88 I was living in a cave. 00:47:02.98\00:47:04.45 I wanted to get away from people and I came to the Lord. 00:47:04.45\00:47:06.59 Now I wanted to tell everybody. 00:47:06.59\00:47:08.16 I'd say, "Lord, what do you want me to do?" 00:47:10.96\00:47:13.56 Now, I wanted things to happen right away. 00:47:13.56\00:47:16.80 And God wanted me to take some more time 00:47:16.80\00:47:19.23 to study and get grounded. 00:47:19.23\00:47:20.94 And so, things did not happen right away, 00:47:20.94\00:47:22.77 but God certainly did guide. 00:47:22.77\00:47:24.57 He did open the doors. 00:47:24.57\00:47:26.47 Keep in mind, Moses said, 00:47:26.47\00:47:27.71 "Lord, I'm ready for you to use me. 00:47:27.71\00:47:29.54 I'm ready to lead the people out of Egypt." 00:47:29.54\00:47:32.25 Matter of fact, before God told him, 00:47:32.25\00:47:34.72 he thought he'd do it on his own. 00:47:34.72\00:47:36.08 And he killed an Egyptian 00:47:36.08\00:47:38.19 and thought he'd get everybody to rally behind him. 00:47:38.19\00:47:40.19 And next thing he knew, 00:47:40.19\00:47:41.66 he was out in the wilderness for a few years. 00:47:41.66\00:47:43.89 So Paul, after he was converted, 00:47:44.79\00:47:47.40 he went to Arabia for a couple years anyway. 00:47:47.40\00:47:49.96 Yeah. 00:47:49.96\00:47:51.43 And he was studying there and getting grounded, 00:47:51.43\00:47:52.77 and then he was very effective. 00:47:52.77\00:47:54.50 Your next step may be going to school. 00:47:54.50\00:47:56.77 You might even consider the Amazing Facts AFCOE program. 00:47:56.77\00:47:59.87 I don't know if the Lord just told me to say that or. 00:47:59.87\00:48:02.58 - Yeah, absolutely. 00:48:02.58\00:48:03.81 I would encourage anyone listening 00:48:03.81\00:48:05.11 who wants to be of service, 00:48:05.11\00:48:07.18 begin by really grounding yourself 00:48:07.18\00:48:09.72 in the practical truths of the Bible. 00:48:09.72\00:48:12.39 Amazing Facts has a free course, 00:48:12.39\00:48:14.12 we call it the Bible school. 00:48:14.12\00:48:16.93 And that's a great starting point 00:48:16.93\00:48:18.63 for anyone wanting to learn, 00:48:18.63\00:48:19.89 what does the Bible have to say 00:48:19.89\00:48:21.03 on a number of important topics. 00:48:21.03\00:48:23.10 Once you learn and you discover these truths 00:48:23.10\00:48:25.47 and you're able to learn them for yourself, 00:48:25.47\00:48:27.50 then you're in a position to share them with somebody else. 00:48:27.50\00:48:29.74 - So Milo, if you go to the website 00:48:29.74\00:48:31.77 that says Bible Universe, 00:48:31.77\00:48:33.94 if you go to bibleuniverse.com, 00:48:33.94\00:48:36.28 there's a series of Bible studies. 00:48:36.28\00:48:38.08 You can go through there for free, 00:48:38.08\00:48:40.52 and that will really ground you. 00:48:40.52\00:48:42.98 I also have a book we'll send you for free, 00:48:42.98\00:48:44.85 and it's called, how do I know the will of God? 00:49:32.93\00:49:34.77 - It's great ministerial and mission training, yeah. 00:49:34.77\00:49:35.80 - Practical discipleship. 00:49:35.80\00:49:37.34 - Some good resources out there. 00:49:37.34\00:49:39.31 All right, we've got Vanessa listening from New York. 00:49:39.31\00:49:41.54 Vanessa, welcome to the program. 00:49:41.54\00:49:43.14 - [Vanessa] Hi. 00:49:44.38\00:49:45.51 - Hi. 00:49:45.51\00:49:46.95 - Okay, so I've been struggling with marijuana addiction. 00:49:46.95\00:49:50.39 And I quit, but everyone in my house smokes. 00:49:50.39\00:49:55.39 So it's been a little difficult. 00:49:57.36\00:49:59.26 Do you have any advice for me to avoid temptation? 00:49:59.26\00:50:04.07 - Yeah, well, like the last phone call, I can relate. 00:50:04.07\00:50:07.24 Because when I became a Christian, 00:50:07.24\00:50:08.67 all of my friends smoked pot. 00:50:08.67\00:50:10.24 In fact, one of the things I had 00:50:10.24\00:50:11.44 to do when I became a Christian, 00:50:11.44\00:50:12.71 I became convicted to pull up my pot plants. 00:50:12.71\00:50:15.38 Now, I didn't know any better. 00:50:15.38\00:50:16.64 I pulled them up and gave 'em to someone. 00:50:16.64\00:50:17.85 I probably should have thrown 'em away. 00:50:17.85\00:50:19.65 But I was still pretty young. 00:50:19.65\00:50:22.25 And then all of my friends that I hung out with, 00:50:22.25\00:50:24.92 they kept smoking pot and offering it to me. 00:50:24.92\00:50:26.79 And I was around it and I was probably getting high 00:50:26.79\00:50:28.69 off secondhand smoke, but I wouldn't smoke it anymore. 00:50:28.69\00:50:32.06 But finally, I just started finding other friends 00:50:32.06\00:50:34.56 'cuz the environment just was not good. 00:50:34.56\00:50:37.17 I don't know how you can completely escape your 00:50:37.17\00:50:40.90 environment. You may not be in a situation where you could do 00:50:40.90\00:50:43.30 that, 'cuz it could be your family. 00:50:43.30\00:50:45.57 You can just ask 'em to respect your decision. 00:50:45.57\00:50:48.41 And when that behavior's happening, 00:50:48.41\00:50:50.45 you just try and get into another room 00:50:50.45\00:50:52.25 and avoid that contact as much as possible. 00:50:52.25\00:50:56.99 And there's a book we'd like to send you. 00:50:58.45\00:51:00.69 It's called "Tips for Resisting Temptation." 00:51:00.69\00:51:03.89 Because I was tempted when my friends would pass the joint 00:51:03.89\00:51:07.30 to take another drag and go back into it again. 00:51:07.30\00:51:11.33 And it can be a struggle. 00:51:11.33\00:51:12.87 Praise God, I didn't. 00:51:12.87\00:51:14.24 But it's around you all the time, 00:51:14.24\00:51:16.77 whether it's alcohol or pot. 00:51:16.77\00:51:18.87 - The number to call again is 800-835-6747. 00:51:18.87\00:51:22.24 And the free book is called "Tips for Resisting Temptation." 00:51:22.24\00:51:25.95 We'd encourage anyone to call and ask for that 00:51:25.95\00:51:28.28 and just some practical, good Bible encouragement 00:51:28.28\00:51:31.55 on how we can resist temptation. 00:51:31.55\00:51:33.69 And if you're trying to live a Christian life, 00:51:33.69\00:51:35.19 you will have temptation 'cuz the devil's not happy, 00:51:35.19\00:51:38.03 but you can overcome in the strength of Christ. 00:51:38.03\00:51:41.00 Next caller that we have, I think we have time for one more. 00:51:41.00\00:51:43.16 We've got Almay listening in Canada. 00:51:43.16\00:51:47.10 Almay, welcome to the program. 00:51:47.10\00:51:48.57 - [Almay] Hi, thank you for having me. 00:51:49.94\00:51:51.64 - Yes. 00:51:51.64\00:51:52.81 - [Almay] For listening to my question. 00:51:52.81\00:51:54.44 Second Peter one verse five says, 00:51:54.44\00:51:57.61 "And beside this giving all diligence at your face virtue 00:51:57.61\00:52:01.62 and to virtue knowledge and to knowledge temperance." 00:52:01.62\00:52:04.75 And someone told me that self-control 00:52:04.75\00:52:07.26 or temperance is a gift from God. 00:52:07.26\00:52:09.72 The Holy Spirit gives people gifts, 00:52:11.69\00:52:16.67 as it thinks you should get a gift. 00:52:17.83\00:52:20.50 But I think self-control is more from a person. 00:52:20.50\00:52:24.07 A person makes a decision and God gives you the strength 00:52:24.07\00:52:27.04 to practice self-control. 00:52:27.04\00:52:29.88 Am I wrong? 00:52:29.88\00:52:31.11 If I think of that, is there a Bible verse 00:52:31.11\00:52:33.31 that tells you that self-control is a gift 00:52:33.31\00:52:35.38 that you get from God? 00:52:35.38\00:52:36.75 - Well, that's a great question. 00:52:37.89\00:52:39.29 And when you look at the virtues that Peter itemizes here 00:52:39.29\00:52:42.49 in Second Peter chapter one. 00:52:42.49\00:52:46.66 And he says, "For this very reason, giving all diligence, 00:52:46.66\00:52:49.16 add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 00:52:49.16\00:52:51.63 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, 00:52:51.63\00:52:54.60 to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, 00:52:54.60\00:52:57.94 and to brotherly kindness love." 00:52:57.94\00:52:59.57 It's like everything's building up to love. 00:52:59.57\00:53:01.81 Well, these are fruits of the spirit. 00:53:01.81\00:53:03.51 But you can seek knowledge. 00:53:03.51\00:53:07.45 When God gives you the gift of knowledge, 00:53:07.45\00:53:08.85 you're not laying on your bed 00:53:08.85\00:53:10.29 and all of a sudden He starts pouring knowledge 00:53:10.29\00:53:11.79 into your head. 00:53:11.79\00:53:13.39 I think what happens is, 00:53:13.39\00:53:15.22 the Lord gives you hunger for knowledge 00:53:15.22\00:53:17.86 and you feed your mind, you feed your soul. 00:53:17.86\00:53:20.13 The Holy Spirit will then bring those things to remembrance. 00:53:20.13\00:53:23.13 I think when you make an effort to resist some temptation, 00:53:23.13\00:53:25.93 to exercise self-control, whether it's in something you 00:53:25.93\00:53:28.67 do, eat or say, some people struggle 00:53:28.67\00:53:30.91 with self-control over their words, 00:53:30.91\00:53:32.74 the Holy Spirit will then come to your aid. 00:53:32.74\00:53:35.24 So, it's choosing these things. 00:53:35.24\00:53:37.48 That's why Peter mentions them. 00:53:38.38\00:53:39.85 He wants us to choose virtue self-control, kindness, 00:53:39.85\00:53:43.79 and all these different gifts, 00:53:43.79\00:53:45.52 and the Spirit then empowers us in performing those things. 00:53:45.52\00:53:49.86 - Just to add to that, Pastor Doug, 00:53:49.86\00:53:51.09 Galatians chapter five versus 22. 00:53:51.09\00:53:53.50 It says, "But the fruit of the spirit is love and joy 00:53:53.50\00:53:55.80 and peace and long suffering and kindness and goodness 00:53:55.80\00:53:58.20 and faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. 00:53:58.20\00:54:01.94 Against such, there is no law." 00:54:01.94\00:54:03.84 So one of the evidences that the Holy Spirit is working 00:54:03.84\00:54:06.44 within the life of a believer or a person 00:54:06.44\00:54:08.34 is love, joy, peace, and so on, and self-control. 00:54:08.34\00:54:11.71 That's one of those identifying fruits of the Holy Spirit. 00:54:11.71\00:54:15.22 It's important for Christians to be able to have that. 00:54:15.22\00:54:17.39 I mean, nothing will hinder your witness 00:54:17.39\00:54:20.09 if somebody loses their temper or can't control themself. 00:54:20.09\00:54:24.39 It's not a good witness. 00:54:24.39\00:54:25.83 - Absolutely. 00:54:25.83\00:54:27.23 So appreciate that, Almay. 00:54:27.23\00:54:28.56 Hopefully that helps a little bit. 00:54:28.56\00:54:30.30 And I wanna tell our friends who are listening right now, 00:54:30.30\00:54:33.87 we don't have time to take another question live on the 00:54:33.87\00:54:37.47 air. But what we do is, we come back after a brief break, 00:54:37.47\00:54:41.08 and we end up doing some rapid fire Bible questions. 00:54:41.08\00:54:44.68 Now, it always takes a little explaining, 00:54:44.68\00:54:47.12 but we broadcast Amazing Facts "Bible Answers Live" 00:54:47.12\00:54:50.59 on hundreds of stations around the country. 00:54:50.59\00:54:52.89 One of the main stations is satellite, 00:54:52.89\00:54:55.52 and is all over the North America on satellite. 00:54:55.52\00:54:58.59 But then after that, we're gonna come back, don't go away. 00:54:58.59\00:55:00.93 Those of you who are on the other stations, 00:55:00.93\00:55:02.36 we're gonna come back 00:55:02.36\00:55:03.63 and we're gonna do rapid fire internet questions 00:55:03.63\00:55:05.97 that have come in. 00:55:05.97\00:55:07.04 God bless, and be right back. 00:55:07.04\00:55:08.70 (bright upbeat music) 00:55:08.70\00:55:11.44 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:55:11.44\00:55:14.04 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:14.04\00:55:17.65 "Bible Answers Live" is produced 00:55:17.65\00:55:19.61 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:19.61\00:55:21.88 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:21.88\00:55:26.02 (bright upbeat music) - Hello, friends. 00:55:26.02\00:55:27.89 Welcome back to "Bible Answers Live," 00:55:27.89\00:55:29.76 for those of you who stayed by. 00:55:29.76\00:55:31.26 We're gonna be looking at some Bible questions 00:55:31.26\00:55:33.86 that came in from our listeners. 00:55:33.86\00:55:35.53 If you would like to post a Bible question 00:55:35.53\00:55:37.87 or email us a Bible question, 00:55:37.87\00:55:39.57 you can do so by simply emailing, 00:55:39.57\00:55:41.70 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:41.70\00:55:46.24 First one that we have is, in Mark chapter nine, 00:55:46.24\00:55:48.91 what does Jesus mean when He said that, 00:55:48.91\00:55:50.35 "There are some standing here who will not taste death 00:55:50.35\00:55:53.48 until they see the Kingdom of God?" 00:55:53.48\00:55:55.75 - Yeah, the key is what happens right after 00:55:55.75\00:55:57.52 He makes that statement. 00:55:57.52\00:55:58.79 You'll find that in not only Mark chapter nine, 00:55:58.79\00:56:00.92 you'll find it in Matthew, and you'll also find it in Luke. 00:56:00.92\00:56:04.46 And immediately after He makes this cryptic statement, 00:56:04.46\00:56:07.03 "Some of you standing here will not taste of death 00:56:07.03\00:56:09.36 until you see the kingdom of God come with power." 00:56:09.36\00:56:12.07 It says after six days, 00:56:12.07\00:56:13.37 He took them up to this tall mountain 00:56:13.37\00:56:16.47 and He was transfigured before them. 00:56:16.47\00:56:18.67 And Moses appears and Elijah appears 00:56:18.67\00:56:21.31 and the voice of God speaks and says, 00:56:21.31\00:56:22.98 "This is My beloved Son." 00:56:22.98\00:56:24.31 And the disciples are cowering. 00:56:24.31\00:56:26.68 They got a miniature picture of the second coming. 00:56:26.68\00:56:29.75 They saw Christ in His glory on the right hand of power. 00:56:29.75\00:56:32.99 And they spoke to Moses who represents 00:56:32.99\00:56:35.39 those who died and are resurrected. 00:56:35.39\00:56:37.39 And they saw Elijah there who represents 00:56:37.39\00:56:39.46 those who died and are translated. 00:56:39.46\00:56:41.40 The whole thing was a microcosm of the second coming. 00:56:41.40\00:56:44.67 The statement of Jesus was introducing 00:56:44.67\00:56:46.80 what was about to happen, 00:56:46.80\00:56:48.74 and basically telling us we need a mountaintop experience 00:56:48.74\00:56:52.61 to prepare for the cross and what's coming. 00:56:52.61\00:56:55.11 - [Ross] Okay, next question that we have. 00:56:55.11\00:56:56.38 What is the significance of Palm Sunday? 00:56:56.38\00:56:59.58 - Yeah, now there are of course, 00:56:59.58\00:57:02.72 millions of Catholic people around the world 00:57:02.72\00:57:04.85 that celebrate Palm Sunday. 00:57:04.85\00:57:06.49 That's because when Jesus had the triumphal entry, 00:57:06.49\00:57:10.19 they would wave palms before Him. 00:57:10.19\00:57:12.56 And it's talking about the week immediately prior 00:57:12.56\00:57:14.83 to the crucifixion. 00:57:14.83\00:57:16.26 And so they've made a festival or a holiday out of that. 00:57:16.26\00:57:18.70 There's no command in the Bible to do that, 00:57:18.70\00:57:21.04 but that's the reason that our Catholic friends 00:57:21.04\00:57:23.44 have picked that day. 00:57:23.44\00:57:25.41 - [Ross] What was Jesus doing after He ascended 00:57:25.41\00:57:27.58 to heaven to be with the Father? 00:57:27.58\00:57:29.28 - Well, the Bible says, He ever lives. 00:57:30.45\00:57:32.41 And this is in Hebrews. 00:57:32.41\00:57:33.65 He ever lives to make intercession for us. 00:57:33.65\00:57:36.38 And so He is our high priest. 00:57:36.38\00:57:38.79 And so He's there now. 00:57:38.79\00:57:40.96 He's in the Holy of Holies before the Father, 00:57:40.96\00:57:43.79 interceding for us. 00:57:43.79\00:57:45.89 He's our advocate. 00:57:45.89\00:57:47.66 - Our next question that we have, 00:57:47.66\00:57:49.80 is there more than one Passover spoken of in the Bible? 00:57:49.80\00:57:53.03 - Well, Passover was an annual feast. 00:57:54.17\00:57:56.07 And so, they're several times they celebrated Passover, 00:57:56.07\00:57:59.74 but it only came once a year. 00:57:59.74\00:58:01.48 And of course, Jesus, during the last supper, 00:58:01.48\00:58:03.81 was celebrating Passover with the disciples. 00:58:03.81\00:58:06.58 Well, that's probably all we're gonna get 00:58:06.58\00:58:07.72 to tonight, Pastor Ross. 00:58:07.72\00:58:08.92 We wanna thank our friends for joining us 00:58:08.92\00:58:10.72 on "Bible Answers Live." 00:58:10.72\00:58:11.99 And we look forward to studying God's Word 00:58:11.99\00:58:13.66 with you again next week. 00:58:13.66\00:58:15.39 (bright upbeat music) 00:58:15.39\00:58:17.66 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:17.66\00:58:19.53 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.53\00:58:23.33 (bright upbeat music) 00:58:23.33\00:58:26.57
