Roy Cleveland Sullivan was a US park ranger 00:00:55.08\00:00:57.62 in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. 00:00:57.62\00:01:00.49 Between 1942 and 1977, 00:01:00.49\00:01:03.83 Sullivan was struck by lightning 00:01:03.83\00:01:05.93 on seven different occasions, 00:01:05.93\00:01:08.90 incredibly surviving all of them. 00:01:08.90\00:01:11.43 For this reason, he gained the nickname, 00:01:11.43\00:01:13.13 the Human Lightning Rod. 00:01:13.13\00:01:15.27 After his wife was struck by lightning 00:01:15.27\00:01:17.07 while he was helping her hang out laundry, 00:01:17.07\00:01:19.01 she also survived, 00:01:19.01\00:01:20.34 people began to avoid him thinking he might be bad luck, 00:01:20.34\00:01:23.38 and they might get zapped. 00:01:23.38\00:01:25.11 Sullivan is recognized by the Guinness World Records 00:01:25.11\00:01:27.65 as having survived more lightning strikes 00:01:27.65\00:01:30.15 than any other human being. 00:01:30.15\00:01:32.59 According to the BBC, 00:01:32.59\00:01:34.09 the odds of being struck by lightning 00:01:34.09\00:01:35.72 are about one in 300,000. 00:01:35.72\00:01:38.46 With 24,000 people struck and killed by lightning each year, 00:01:38.46\00:01:42.16 the chances of being hit by lightning seven times 00:01:42.16\00:01:44.97 and surviving are absolutely astounding! 00:01:44.97\00:01:48.64 Pastor Ross, this just amazed me. 00:01:49.84\00:01:51.21 And I think they may have seen at one point, 00:01:51.21\00:01:52.91 it showed a picture of Roy. 00:01:52.91\00:01:55.04 His park ranger hat had a burned spot on top. 00:01:55.04\00:01:59.11 One time, after being struck several times by lightning, 00:01:59.11\00:02:01.72 he saw a storm came into the hills, 00:02:01.72\00:02:03.39 and he drove out of the mountains, 00:02:03.39\00:02:04.85 tried to outrun the storm. 00:02:04.85\00:02:06.35 When he thought he was at a safe distance, 00:02:06.35\00:02:08.19 he jumped out of his truck to look 00:02:08.19\00:02:10.09 and lightning hit him again. 00:02:10.09\00:02:11.93 And he used to think, "Is God mad at me?" 00:02:11.93\00:02:13.83 But then he thought, 00:02:13.83\00:02:14.60 "Well, maybe God's saving me 00:02:14.60\00:02:16.67 'cause he's got something left for me to do." 00:02:16.67\00:02:18.90 - Right, what are the chances 00:02:18.90\00:02:20.17 of surviving just one lightning strike, let alone seven? 00:02:20.17\00:02:24.21 So, (chuckles) it's just amazing how, yeah, 00:02:24.21\00:02:27.04 he'd go through something like that. 00:02:27.04\00:02:28.44 - I know a sailor that was struck twice and survived, 00:02:28.44\00:02:31.61 and that's very, very unusual. 00:02:31.61\00:02:34.18 But it makes me think about, 00:02:34.18\00:02:36.22 when you think about fire coming down from Heaven, 00:02:36.22\00:02:38.59 the Bible often calls it fire. 00:02:38.59\00:02:40.32 Like one of the plagues of Egypt that says, 00:02:40.32\00:02:42.19 "fire came down," it was usually lightning. 00:02:42.19\00:02:45.33 And when it says 00:02:45.33\00:02:46.86 "fire came down and killed the sons of Aaron," 00:02:46.86\00:02:49.26 they went into the temple drunk... probably lightning. 00:02:49.26\00:02:53.40 And then you read in Revelation 13:13, 00:02:53.40\00:02:57.47 speaking of the beast power, 00:02:58.97\00:03:00.48 and this is the second beast in Revelation 13, 00:03:00.48\00:03:04.31 "He performs great signs, 00:03:04.31\00:03:06.82 so that he even makes fire come down 00:03:06.82\00:03:08.98 from Heaven on the Earth in the sight of men. 00:03:08.98\00:03:11.69 And he deceives those who dwell on the Earth 00:03:11.69\00:03:14.32 by those signs which he was granted to do 00:03:14.32\00:03:16.39 in the sight of the beast, 00:03:16.39\00:03:17.93 telling those who dwell on the Earth 00:03:17.93\00:03:19.76 to make an image to the beast 00:03:19.76\00:03:21.20 who was wounded by the sword and lived." 00:03:21.20\00:03:24.00 - So here you have two beasts, Pastor Doug, in chapter 13. 00:03:25.37\00:03:27.34 The first beast, we've identified, 00:03:27.34\00:03:29.04 if you look at the various clues given in the verse, 00:03:29.04\00:03:32.61 it's very clear that the first beast of Revelation 00:03:32.61\00:03:34.71 is really the papal power. 00:03:34.71\00:03:36.71 The second beast, however, 00:03:36.71\00:03:38.28 is described as coming up from the earth, 00:03:38.28\00:03:40.42 two horns like a lamb, but it speaks like a dragon, 00:03:40.42\00:03:43.35 is really describing the United States. 00:03:43.35\00:03:45.79 And how's the United States, as the world's superpower, 00:03:45.79\00:03:48.52 gonna get everyone in the world to eventually acknowledge 00:03:48.52\00:03:52.36 or receive the Mark of the Beast? 00:03:52.36\00:03:54.20 Well, one of the ways there's fire coming down from Heaven. 00:03:54.20\00:03:57.80 Now, in the Bible, fire coming down from Heaven, 00:03:57.80\00:03:59.17 as you said, it could be judgment, 00:03:59.17\00:04:01.37 for example, Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:04:01.37\00:04:03.27 But it can also be God's approval, 00:04:03.27\00:04:06.34 of symbolizing the Holy Spirit. 00:04:06.34\00:04:07.78 For example, the fire that came down 00:04:07.78\00:04:09.18 and consumed the sacrifice of Elijah on Mount Carmel. 00:04:09.18\00:04:12.91 You have fire coming down from Heaven 00:04:12.91\00:04:14.62 resting on the heads of the disciples 00:04:14.62\00:04:16.32 in the upper room at Pentecost. 00:04:16.32\00:04:18.12 So, here you have this power described in Revelation 13 00:04:18.12\00:04:21.92 that brings fire down from Heaven. 00:04:21.92\00:04:23.63 It's almost a counterfeit revival that takes place 00:04:23.63\00:04:26.83 that galvanizes the world to give their support 00:04:26.83\00:04:29.43 to the first beast power of Revelation 13. 00:04:29.43\00:04:32.30 - Yeah, it's like an imitation 00:04:32.30\00:04:33.60 of the great miracle of Elijah 00:04:33.60\00:04:36.47 where they're trying to decide who is the real God. 00:04:36.47\00:04:38.77 They say, "Well, I'm gonna ultimately prove the real God 00:04:38.77\00:04:41.34 is the God that answers by fire," 00:04:41.34\00:04:43.24 well the beast is gonna play off that in the last days 00:04:43.24\00:04:45.68 and try and say, "Well, we're the real power, 00:04:45.68\00:04:47.78 because look, we can bring fire down." 00:04:47.78\00:04:49.78 - Right. 00:04:49.78\00:04:50.59 Well, we have a study guide 00:04:50.59\00:04:51.95 that talks about the United States in Bible prophecy, 00:04:51.95\00:04:53.62 and we will send this out to anyone for free. 00:04:53.62\00:04:55.89 All you'll have to do is just call and ask. 00:04:55.89\00:04:58.23 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:04:58.23\00:05:02.36 And you can ask for free offer, number 181, 00:05:02.36\00:05:05.37 or just ask by name, "The United States in Bible Prophecy." 00:05:05.37\00:05:09.97 Pastor Doug, we have a magazine, 00:05:09.97\00:05:11.27 in addition to the study guide that we have, 00:05:11.27\00:05:12.91 we also have a magazine 00:05:12.91\00:05:14.58 called "The United States in Prophecy." 00:05:14.58\00:05:16.58 And it's one of our more popular magazines. 00:05:16.58\00:05:18.98 People call, and they want it, 00:05:18.98\00:05:20.32 and they wanna share it with others. 00:05:20.32\00:05:21.58 Because look at what's happening in the world today, 00:05:21.58\00:05:23.75 the leadership role that the United States is playing, 00:05:23.75\00:05:26.25 how does that fit into Bible prophecy? 00:05:26.25\00:05:28.29 Well, this study guide goes into that in detail. 00:05:28.29\00:05:30.79 So again, we wanna encourage you to call for that, 00:05:30.79\00:05:32.56 800-835-6747. 00:05:32.56\00:05:35.23 And again, just ask for the study guide 00:05:35.23\00:05:36.60 called "The United States," or "The USA in Bible Prophecy." 00:05:36.60\00:05:40.24 If you have a Bible question, 00:05:40.24\00:05:41.60 our phone line here to the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:05:41.60\00:05:46.74 That's 800-463-7297. 00:05:47.41\00:05:50.38 We wanna greet those who are listening on satellite radio, 00:05:50.38\00:05:53.01 also on land-based radio stations, 00:05:53.01\00:05:55.38 and also those who are watching on "Amazing Facts TV." 00:05:55.38\00:05:58.32 I know we have a number of folks also joining us 00:05:58.32\00:06:00.32 on "Good News TV" as well as on the internet, social media. 00:06:00.32\00:06:03.63 So welcome. Thanks. 00:06:40.33\00:06:42.20 - [Anthony] My wife and I, 00:06:42.20\00:06:43.57 we actually had a question where we wanted to know, 00:06:43.57\00:06:46.33 why did God wait seven days 00:06:48.10\00:06:50.61 after He closed the door of the ark 00:06:50.61\00:06:53.14 before He started the flood? 00:06:53.14\00:06:54.71 And then we asked this 00:06:54.71\00:06:56.08 because we know that God has a purpose for everything. 00:06:56.08\00:06:59.01 And we know that seven is a significant number, 00:06:59.01\00:07:01.78 so we just wanted to know 00:07:01.78\00:07:03.82 if there was something behind that. 00:07:03.82\00:07:05.29 And then, also, is there a connection 00:07:05.29\00:07:07.79 to the last days, probation closing 00:07:07.79\00:07:10.66 and the last days as well? 00:07:10.66\00:07:12.53 - Yeah, very good question. 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.20 So, there's evidently, there's seven days 00:07:14.20\00:07:16.16 after God has Noah and the animals come in the ark, 00:07:16.16\00:07:18.50 and it tells us that the Lord shut the door. 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.07 And whether seven complete days had gone by 00:07:21.07\00:07:23.87 or at the beginning of the seventh day anyway, 00:07:23.87\00:07:26.31 which I think is more likely 00:07:26.31\00:07:28.54 just because it was after six days 00:07:28.54\00:07:30.51 of marching around Jericho, 00:07:30.51\00:07:31.65 on the seventh day, on the seventh time, 00:07:31.65\00:07:34.82 then the city fell, and this is sort of similar. 00:07:34.82\00:07:37.29 The deliverance came for Noah and his family. 00:07:40.26\00:07:42.62 You might say they were lifted up above the world, 00:07:42.62\00:07:44.53 at that point. 00:07:44.53\00:07:45.63 The rain began to fall on the seventh day. 00:07:45.63\00:07:48.43 For one thing, I sometimes during times of delay, 00:07:48.43\00:07:52.33 God is testing the faithfulness of His people. 00:07:52.33\00:07:55.30 When the parable of the 10 virgins, it says, 00:07:55.30\00:07:57.57 "And while the bridegroom tarried," 00:07:57.57\00:08:00.31 and during that time their Holy Spirit is, 00:08:00.31\00:08:03.95 they're living on reserve, so to speak. 00:08:03.95\00:08:06.51 So God, sometimes, He makes an entrance, you might say, 00:08:06.51\00:08:10.12 and He has us wait and our-- and we're tested. 00:08:10.12\00:08:14.32 Moses delayed coming down the mountain, 00:08:14.32\00:08:16.42 and it was a time of testing for the children of Israel. 00:08:16.42\00:08:19.33 Samuel told Saul, 00:08:19.33\00:08:20.46 "Wait for me and after seven days I'll come," 00:08:20.46\00:08:22.40 but it seems like he was a little late, 00:08:22.40\00:08:24.53 and then he did come. 00:08:24.53\00:08:26.43 But it was a time of testing, 00:08:26.43\00:08:27.57 and Saul actually failed that test. 00:08:27.57\00:08:29.60 So, you got any thoughts, Pastor Ross? 00:08:29.60\00:08:31.21 Why the seven days? 00:08:31.21\00:08:32.31 - Definitely, a time of testing. 00:08:32.31\00:08:33.88 You mentioned something, they were in the ark, 00:08:33.88\00:08:36.14 probation closes. 00:08:36.14\00:08:37.51 You have the six days, on the seventh day, 00:08:37.51\00:08:39.51 it appears the rain begins to come, and the flood comes. 00:08:39.51\00:08:42.58 They are lifted up, 00:08:42.58\00:08:43.72 the Earth is inhabited for about 6,000 years. 00:08:43.72\00:08:47.09 And then, you have the Second Coming of Christ, 00:08:47.09\00:08:48.96 and the righteous are lifted up and their deliverance comes. 00:08:48.96\00:08:51.76 But at the same time, 00:08:51.76\00:08:52.83 you have judgment coming upon the wicked 00:08:52.83\00:08:54.10 that are gonna be destroyed 00:08:54.10\00:08:54.96 at the brightness 00:08:54.96\00:08:56.06 of Christ's coming. - Great illustration. 00:08:56.06\00:08:56.87 - So, you see a parallel in... 00:08:56.87\00:08:58.20 Matter of fact, Jesus said, "As it was in the days of Noah, 00:08:58.20\00:09:00.84 so also shall it be, and the Son of Man is revealed." 00:09:00.84\00:09:04.44 But then if you try and parallel that 00:09:04.44\00:09:05.91 with the close of probation at the end of time, 00:09:05.91\00:09:08.98 according to Revelation, 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.41 it's not that the plagues will come in... 00:09:10.41\00:09:13.11 Course after probation closes, 00:09:13.11\00:09:14.48 then you have the seven last plagues. 00:09:14.48\00:09:16.25 They don't occur in seven literal days. 00:09:16.25\00:09:18.42 There are seven literal plagues, 00:09:18.42\00:09:20.19 but the Bible seems to indicate 00:09:20.19\00:09:21.79 that the plagues will come in one year. 00:09:21.79\00:09:23.63 Because one prophetic day is equal to one literal year, 00:09:23.63\00:09:25.76 and it says, "Her plagues shall come in one day." 00:09:25.76\00:09:28.63 So after probation closes, you have about a year, 00:09:28.63\00:09:31.27 and then, the Second Coming of Christ. 00:09:31.27\00:09:32.90 - Yeah, but the world, 00:09:32.90\00:09:34.00 I don't think would survive very long 00:09:34.00\00:09:35.74 if you had seven years of those seven last plagues, 00:09:37.34\00:09:42.01 when you look at them. 00:09:42.01\00:09:43.41 Well, hope that helps a little bit, Anthony. 00:09:43.41\00:09:44.71 Thank you for your question, and we appreciate it. 00:09:44.71\00:09:48.45 - Next caller that we have is Fred 00:09:48.45\00:09:49.65 listening from Connecticut. 00:09:49.65\00:09:51.69 Fred, welcome to the program! 00:09:51.69\00:09:53.19 - [Fred] Yes. 00:09:54.22\00:09:55.62 When it comes to fasting, is that optional or mandatory? 00:09:55.62\00:10:00.40 - A good question. 00:10:01.56\00:10:03.40 Now, we are not saved by our works, 00:10:03.40\00:10:06.43 but if you say, is it mandatory to pray? 00:10:06.43\00:10:10.14 I think we would agree that all believers will pray 00:10:11.47\00:10:13.88 'cause even receiving Christ requires a prayer. 00:10:13.88\00:10:16.61 Speaking of fasting, 00:10:17.48\00:10:19.01 Jesus said we shouldn't fast like the hypocrites, 00:10:19.01\00:10:22.18 but He said, "When you fast," 00:10:22.18\00:10:23.82 and I dunno if you have that reference there... 00:10:23.82\00:10:25.95 - Matthew 6:17. 00:10:25.95\00:10:27.72 - Yeah. 00:10:27.72\00:10:28.79 So Jesus didn't say, "if you fast," 00:10:28.79\00:10:29.92 He said, "when you fast." 00:10:29.92\00:10:31.33 And then another time Jesus told the apostles in Mark 9, 00:10:31.33\00:10:34.83 speaking of a father 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.06 that wanted his son delivered from a demon. 00:10:36.06\00:10:38.10 and the disciples said, 00:10:38.10\00:10:39.33 "Why couldn't we cast the demon out?" 00:10:39.33\00:10:41.07 Jesus said, "This kind does not come forth 00:10:41.07\00:10:42.97 except by prayer and fasting." 00:10:42.97\00:10:45.34 And then you've got a number of examples in the Bible 00:10:45.34\00:10:49.91 where one time John the Baptist's disciples came to 00:10:49.91\00:10:53.18 Jesus and said, "How come you guys aren't fasting?" 00:10:53.18\00:10:57.02 like John the Baptist's disciples. 00:10:57.02\00:10:59.32 And Jesus said, "The children of the Bridegroom do not fast 00:10:59.32\00:11:02.99 while the Bridegroom is with them." 00:11:02.99\00:11:04.69 I mean, that's obviously a time of celebration, 00:11:04.69\00:11:07.00 "but the time will come when the Bridegroom is taken away, 00:11:07.00\00:11:09.20 then they will fast." 00:11:09.20\00:11:10.70 So Jesus said, "When I send to Heaven, 00:11:10.70\00:11:12.70 there'll be times for fasting and prayer." 00:11:12.70\00:11:15.17 - And I think, 00:11:15.17\00:11:16.54 especially as we see issues taking place in the world, 00:11:16.54\00:11:20.08 our faith is gonna be tried and tested, 00:11:20.08\00:11:22.11 and we wanna at that point, 00:11:22.11\00:11:24.25 or even now probably in preparation, 00:11:24.25\00:11:26.55 we wanna have that full commitment and focus on Christ, 00:11:26.55\00:11:29.75 and fasting is an important part of that. 00:11:29.75\00:11:32.05 Not that it earns merit with God, 00:11:32.05\00:11:33.62 but it does help to focus our mind on something else 00:11:33.62\00:11:36.02 than just temporal things. 00:11:36.02\00:11:37.63 - Yeah, and I think it's healthy for our souls 00:11:37.63\00:11:39.16 to sometimes deny our bodies. 00:11:39.16\00:11:40.90 It's good discipline. 00:11:40.90\00:11:42.56 So, hope that helps a little bit. 00:11:42.56\00:11:44.27 Appreciate your question, Fred. 00:11:44.27\00:11:46.20 - We've got Brittany listening in California. 00:11:46.20\00:11:48.04 Brittany, welcome to the program. 00:11:48.04\00:11:49.67 - [Brittany] Hey. (chuckling) 00:11:52.24\00:11:53.44 - Hi, thanks for calling. 00:11:53.44\00:11:54.68 - [Brittany] Yeah, sure. 00:11:56.28\00:11:57.55 My question was, 00:11:57.55\00:11:59.41 how is a Christian supposed to deal 00:11:59.41\00:12:01.42 with the temptation to leave the church 00:12:01.42\00:12:03.62 because of secular concerts? 00:12:03.62\00:12:05.52 - Okay, so you're, I guess, concerned 00:12:06.65\00:12:10.79 because the church, 00:12:10.79\00:12:12.13 it seems like they're bringing in worldly music, 00:12:12.13\00:12:14.60 and you're just discouraged by that 00:12:14.60\00:12:17.13 because you're wanting more holiness 00:12:17.13\00:12:18.70 and reverence in the church, 00:12:18.70\00:12:19.77 is that what you're saying? 00:12:19.77\00:12:21.54 - [Brittany] Well, it isn't that. 00:12:21.54\00:12:23.94 I have performances 00:12:23.94\00:12:26.17 through the community college I'm attending, 00:12:27.81\00:12:30.51 and one of them happens to be on a Sunday. 00:12:30.51\00:12:32.91 And I'm wondering 00:12:32.91\00:12:34.05 if that's part of the idea of the temptation 00:12:34.05\00:12:38.09 I'm dealing with to leave the church 00:12:38.09\00:12:40.22 because of the performance I have 00:12:40.22\00:12:43.19 that happens to be on a Sunday. 00:12:43.19\00:12:45.33 - Oh, I see, I think I understand, 00:12:45.33\00:12:48.26 that you see a secular concert, 00:12:48.26\00:12:51.70 it could be getting a way with your regular worship, 00:12:51.70\00:12:53.87 is that what you're asking? 00:12:53.87\00:12:55.17 I couldn't hear your answer. I'm sorry, Brittany. 00:12:57.61\00:12:59.81 - [Brittany] Yeah, that's it? 00:13:00.91\00:13:02.58 - Well, I think that's-- it's a good question, 00:13:02.58\00:13:04.88 but we should always seek first the kingdom of God, 00:13:04.88\00:13:07.78 and His righteousness. 00:13:07.78\00:13:09.58 And if we're asked to do something, 00:13:09.58\00:13:12.59 just like Nebuchadnezzer said, 00:13:12.59\00:13:14.39 "We're having a special program. 00:13:14.39\00:13:16.29 Everybody's gonna bow down to my statue," 00:13:16.29\00:13:18.46 and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego said, 00:13:18.46\00:13:20.80 "We cannot break the commandments of God 00:13:20.80\00:13:22.66 to keep the commandments of men." 00:13:22.66\00:13:24.67 And so, I think that you should always follow 00:13:24.67\00:13:27.34 your convictions about what the Word of God is. 00:13:27.34\00:13:29.90 We actually have a lesson-- you're talking about, 00:13:31.31\00:13:34.71 reverence on Sunday and going to church. 00:13:34.71\00:13:37.61 We've got a lesson that talks about, 00:13:37.61\00:13:39.45 How do you keep the Sabbath holy? 00:13:39.45\00:13:41.48 And we'll be happy to send you that 00:13:41.48\00:13:43.32 if you'd like a free copy. 00:13:43.32\00:13:44.85 Just go to the resource. 00:13:44.85\00:13:46.55 - If you'd like to receive that again, 00:13:46.55\00:13:47.82 you can just call and ask. 00:13:47.82\00:13:49.56 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:13:49.56\00:13:53.46 And Pastor Doug, I'm thinking of the exact wording of that. 00:13:53.46\00:13:55.73 Is it, "How to Keep the Sabbath Holy" 00:13:55.73\00:13:57.33 or is it "Forgotten Day in History"? 00:13:57.33\00:13:59.33 - No, that we have a booklet- 00:13:59.33\00:14:00.17 - We have one specific- 00:14:00.17\00:14:00.94 - Yeah. - Okay. 00:14:00.94\00:14:02.07 You can just call and ask for that, 00:14:02.07\00:14:02.87 and we'll send it to you, 00:14:02.87\00:14:03.67 "How to Keep the Sabbath Holy." 00:14:03.67\00:14:04.77 Again, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:14:04.77\00:14:09.78 Alright, thank you for your call, Brittany. 00:14:09.78\00:14:10.95 We got Ryan listening in California. 00:14:10.95\00:14:13.01 Ryan, welcome to the program. 00:14:13.01\00:14:14.52 - [Ryan] Hey, Pastors, thanks for taking my call. 00:14:16.48\00:14:19.59 - Yeah. 00:14:19.59\00:14:20.49 - [Ryan] My question is actually on Luke 7. 00:14:21.89\00:14:25.49 I believe it's also referenced in Matthew as well. 00:14:25.49\00:14:29.30 I'm wondering why John the Baptist sent his disciples 00:14:29.30\00:14:33.67 to ask Jesus if He's the expected one, 00:14:33.67\00:14:37.77 even though at that point he's already baptized Jesus 00:14:37.77\00:14:40.68 and even declared that He was the Lamb of God 00:14:40.68\00:14:44.61 who takes away the sin of the world. 00:14:44.61\00:14:46.51 - Yeah. Good. 00:14:46.51\00:14:47.78 So, John the Baptist, 00:14:47.78\00:14:49.02 God revealed through the Holy Spirit, 00:14:49.02\00:14:51.09 and you read this in the Gospel of John, 00:14:51.09\00:14:52.72 the Lord told him 00:14:52.72\00:14:54.12 that the one on whom you see the Holy Spirit descending, 00:14:54.12\00:14:56.46 He's the One. 00:14:56.46\00:14:57.49 And John knew, he said, "You come to me," 00:14:57.49\00:15:00.76 John said to Jesus, "You come to me for baptism. 00:15:00.76\00:15:03.06 You should be baptizing me." 00:15:03.06\00:15:05.17 And John declared on two occasions, 00:15:05.17\00:15:06.97 "Behold, the Lamb of God 00:15:06.97\00:15:08.07 that takes away the sin of the world." 00:15:08.07\00:15:09.40 And John said, "He must increase, I must decrease." 00:15:09.40\00:15:12.74 But then, John was thrown in jail, 00:15:12.74\00:15:14.61 and even John had different expectations 00:15:14.61\00:15:18.08 of the ministry of Jesus. 00:15:18.08\00:15:19.75 He thought that Jesus would use His supernatural power 00:15:19.75\00:15:23.32 to do something to overthrow the Roman oppression, 00:15:23.32\00:15:26.62 or just that he had some different expectations, 00:15:26.62\00:15:28.72 and when Jesus just continued to keep His head down, 00:15:28.72\00:15:31.89 and He was meek and lowly, and He would heal and feed, 00:15:31.89\00:15:34.66 and he thought, "Are You the One? 00:15:35.76\00:15:37.97 Or did I misunderstand? Are You just a great prophet? 00:15:37.97\00:15:40.17 Or are You the Messiah?" 00:15:40.17\00:15:42.20 And keep in mind, John is in prison. 00:15:42.20\00:15:44.21 He's discouraged. He's alone. 00:15:44.21\00:15:46.98 And he's wondering why Jesus is doing nothing 00:15:46.98\00:15:49.18 to deliver him. 00:15:49.18\00:15:50.51 He thinks, "Maybe He'll use His power to rescue me somehow," 00:15:50.51\00:15:54.62 so I think he was just struggling in his faith. 00:15:54.62\00:15:58.09 And he sent his messengers to say, 00:15:58.09\00:15:59.52 "Are You the One or do we look for another?" 00:15:59.52\00:16:02.19 And Jesus didn't answer him right away. 00:16:02.19\00:16:03.99 He had the messengers stand around and watch 00:16:03.99\00:16:06.36 as He cast out devils and, well, 00:16:06.36\00:16:08.93 you can read it here in Luke 7:22. 00:16:08.93\00:16:12.43 Jesus said, "Go tell John 00:16:12.43\00:16:13.67 the things that you've seen and heard. 00:16:13.67\00:16:15.44 the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, 00:16:15.44\00:16:18.34 the deaf hear, the dead are raised, 00:16:18.34\00:16:20.74 the poor have the Gospel preached to them. 00:16:20.74\00:16:23.45 And then He gives them a little encouragement. 00:16:23.45\00:16:25.05 He says, "Blessed is he who's not offended because of Me." 00:16:25.05\00:16:28.42 And of course the ministry of Christ that he describes here 00:16:28.42\00:16:31.82 goes along with what the prophet Isaiah says 00:16:31.82\00:16:34.96 about the Messiah, that He would open the eyes of the blind, 00:16:34.96\00:16:38.89 and the lame would leap and that they would have the Gospel. 00:16:38.89\00:16:43.06 So, John understood, "Yes, He is the One." 00:16:43.06\00:16:47.00 - And, of course, after the disciples of John were there, 00:16:47.00\00:16:50.01 and they leave, then Jesus turns to those who are with Him, 00:16:50.01\00:16:53.01 And He said, 00:16:53.01\00:16:54.34 "What did you go out into the wilderness to see, 00:16:54.34\00:16:55.58 a reed shaken by the wind? 00:16:55.58\00:16:57.58 Did you go out to see somebody dressed in fine apparel?" 00:16:57.58\00:17:00.32 And then He talks about John, and He says, 00:17:00.32\00:17:01.75 "Of all of them born unto woman, 00:17:01.75\00:17:03.05 there's not arisen one greater than John the Baptist." 00:17:03.05\00:17:05.49 So clearly, Jesus acknowledged the mission of John 00:17:05.49\00:17:09.16 and the faith of John. 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.89 And I think the testimony that came back to John 00:17:10.89\00:17:13.43 from his disciples, that settled the faith of John. 00:17:13.43\00:17:17.00 That strengthened him to face the final trial, 00:17:17.00\00:17:19.17 which was he's martyrdom for Christ. 00:17:19.17\00:17:21.47 - Absolutely. 00:17:21.47\00:17:22.44 So thank you very much, Ryan. 00:17:23.34\00:17:24.64 Hopefully, that helps a little bit. Very good question. 00:17:24.64\00:17:27.44 - Next caller that we have, 00:17:27.44\00:17:28.54 we've got Fanduca listening in Canada. 00:17:28.54\00:17:31.88 How do you say your name? 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.48 - [Facundo] It's Facundo. 00:17:35.48\00:17:36.32 - Facundo, yes. Welcome. 00:17:36.32\00:17:38.29 - [Facundo] Thank you. Good to talk to you guys. 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.56 My question today is on Acts 12:4. 00:17:42.66\00:17:46.19 And I found it a little confusing. 00:17:46.19\00:17:48.83 It was just interesting 00:17:48.83\00:17:50.23 because I tend to reference other versions of the Bible 00:17:50.23\00:17:53.57 to see full understanding, 00:17:53.57\00:17:56.27 and I noticed that in the King James Version, 00:17:56.27\00:17:59.64 it refers to Easter, 00:17:59.64\00:18:01.24 as every other version refers to the day after Passover, 00:18:01.24\00:18:05.48 so I was curious as to what you guys think 00:18:05.48\00:18:07.58 as to why they used Easter instead of Passover, 00:18:07.58\00:18:11.32 given that there was no such thing as Easter. 00:18:11.32\00:18:14.59 - Right. 00:18:14.59\00:18:15.92 Well, because the King James translators 00:18:15.92\00:18:18.53 were translating the Bible 00:18:18.53\00:18:19.79 into current contemporary English. 00:18:19.79\00:18:22.76 And in contemporary English, 00:18:22.76\00:18:24.33 they all called the Passover season, Easter. 00:18:24.33\00:18:27.74 They saw them as synonymous. 00:18:27.74\00:18:29.80 And so, of course, 00:18:29.80\00:18:32.74 the history for the word Easter is drawn from Ishtar, 00:18:32.74\00:18:37.81 'cause there was also a spring festival during that time 00:18:39.15\00:18:41.78 that came from pagan mythology. 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.82 But that was the word that they used for that time of year, 00:18:43.82\00:18:46.65 the Paschal celebration. 00:18:46.65\00:18:48.89 So yeah, just- 00:18:49.89\00:18:52.76 - Yeah, but there's no doubt in the original Greek 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.96 that it's talking about the Passover. 00:18:54.96\00:18:56.50 And that's why some of the, 00:18:56.50\00:18:57.80 even the New King James version actually refers to it, 00:18:57.80\00:19:00.74 the use of the word Passover, not the word Easter. 00:19:00.74\00:19:03.61 - [Facundo] And, I guess, my follow-up to that would be then 00:19:03.61\00:19:06.91 is Easter something that we as a church should celebrate? 00:19:06.91\00:19:11.55 I guess I was looking into it, 00:19:11.55\00:19:12.91 and I saw that it was in the Council of Nicaea, I believe, 00:19:12.91\00:19:16.85 with Constantine. 00:19:16.85\00:19:18.19 And I'm just wondering 00:19:18.19\00:19:19.55 if it's something that the church should celebrate, 00:19:19.55\00:19:21.99 or if it's like you guys are saying, 00:19:21.99\00:19:24.09 it's got its roots in paganism 00:19:24.09\00:19:27.30 or some sort of pagan holiday. 00:19:27.30\00:19:30.07 - Alright, good question. Let's talk about that. 00:19:30.07\00:19:32.60 Easter, the term Easter is drawn from a springtime festival, 00:19:33.94\00:19:38.57 'cause everything was bursting 00:19:39.37\00:19:40.61 in the Northern Hemisphere at springtime, 00:19:40.61\00:19:42.38 everything was bursting forth with new life. 00:19:42.38\00:19:44.25 And that's why, they had bunnies, 00:19:44.25\00:19:46.41 and they got eggs and everything 00:19:46.41\00:19:47.72 they kind of had to do with, and lilies, you know, 00:19:47.72\00:19:51.19 they had to do with new life. 00:19:51.19\00:19:53.79 'Cause a lot of these pagan religions, 00:19:53.79\00:19:55.16 they saw it as sort as a fertility festival. 00:19:55.16\00:19:58.23 Well, Constantine, made the most of that, 00:19:58.23\00:20:01.03 and they sort of melded what the Christians recognized 00:20:01.03\00:20:04.27 as the Passover with the resurrection of Christ. 00:20:04.27\00:20:08.00 And they were trying to win some of them, 00:20:08.00\00:20:10.01 they said, "Well, let's just celebrate these things together 00:20:10.01\00:20:12.91 and call it the Resurrection." 00:20:12.91\00:20:14.54 Now that said, 00:20:14.54\00:20:15.91 there's nothing wrong with-- there's no commandment to, 00:20:15.91\00:20:18.85 let me back up, 00:20:18.85\00:20:19.95 there's no commandment for us to make a holiday 00:20:19.95\00:20:22.78 of the Passover or the Resurrection, 00:20:22.78\00:20:25.85 a new Christian holiday. 00:20:25.85\00:20:27.52 But there's certainly nothing wrong with Christians 00:20:27.52\00:20:30.69 remembering and celebrating the Resurrection. 00:20:30.69\00:20:33.76 So, there's no moral dilemma there. 00:20:33.76\00:20:35.80 I would say the same thing I say about Christmas. 00:20:35.80\00:20:38.97 If you're gonna celebrate the time of Jesus' First Coming, 00:20:38.97\00:20:42.94 emphasize what the Scripture says about it. 00:20:42.94\00:20:44.84 You don't emphasize Santa Claus, and the tree, 00:20:44.84\00:20:48.61 or the Yule log, 00:20:48.61\00:20:50.31 or any of the traditions that have grown up around it. 00:20:50.31\00:20:52.55 You celebrate what the biblical truth is. 00:20:52.55\00:20:54.88 And if we're gonna celebrate the Passover season 00:20:54.88\00:20:58.52 and the Resurrection, 00:20:58.52\00:21:00.26 celebrate the biblical truth connected with that. 00:21:00.26\00:21:02.06 There's nothing wrong with that. 00:21:02.06\00:21:03.83 There's no command to do it, 00:21:03.83\00:21:05.69 but what's Paul saying in Romans, 00:21:05.69\00:21:07.03 "If you're gonna recognize the day, do it to the Lord. 00:21:07.03\00:21:09.80 If you're not gonna do it, don't do it." 00:21:09.80\00:21:12.33 - Okay, good answer. 00:21:12.33\00:21:13.87 Next caller that we have is Efrank listening from New York. 00:21:13.87\00:21:16.44 Efrank, welcome to the program. 00:21:16.44\00:21:18.07 - [Efrank] Yes, good evening, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:21:19.44\00:21:22.74 I have a question for both of you this evening. 00:21:22.74\00:21:26.21 I did understand what Brittany said before. 00:21:26.21\00:21:29.25 It's very understandable what she was asking, 00:21:29.25\00:21:32.42 but what I'm trying to ask tonight is, 00:21:32.42\00:21:36.16 does it appear anywhere in the New Testament, 00:21:36.16\00:21:39.19 any form, as the call screener told me, 00:21:39.19\00:21:41.70 use the word "resource," not "record," 00:21:41.70\00:21:44.07 any resources that indicate 00:21:44.07\00:21:45.50 that there was any form of evidence 00:21:45.50\00:21:48.87 that indicated the events that led up to the crucifixion, 00:21:48.87\00:21:53.78 the day that Jesus died? 00:21:53.78\00:21:55.58 Is there any verse or scripture in the entire New Testament 00:21:55.58\00:21:59.91 that indicates that the Roman centurions made any notations 00:21:59.91\00:22:04.89 of other things that occurred within that time period, 00:22:06.19\00:22:08.96 that specific day, in the Mount of Olives? 00:22:08.96\00:22:13.33 I'm just curious. 00:22:13.33\00:22:14.46 - Alright, so if I understand correctly, 00:22:15.53\00:22:17.33 you're asking if there's other records in the New Testament 00:22:17.33\00:22:21.20 of events that happen on the day of the crucifixion, 00:22:21.20\00:22:24.01 is that right? - Yeah, 00:22:25.14\00:22:26.04 that's what I'm saying. 00:22:26.04\00:22:27.78 - Well, of course, it tells us about the trial of Christ, 00:22:27.78\00:22:31.71 and it says that after they put his robe back on, 00:22:31.71\00:22:34.42 and they led Him forth to be crucified. 00:22:34.42\00:22:37.09 And so it does say that, 00:22:37.09\00:22:38.75 and, of course, it tells us that as they were crucifying Him 00:22:38.75\00:22:42.16 along with the other two thieves, 00:22:42.16\00:22:43.86 they called 'em malefactors, I think, 00:22:46.09\00:22:48.53 He prayed for the forgiveness, saying, 00:22:48.53\00:22:50.50 "Father, forgive them. They know not what they were doing." 00:22:50.50\00:22:53.37 And so, there's several New Testament references to that. 00:22:53.37\00:22:56.50 It does talk about that the sky grew dark. 00:22:56.50\00:23:00.88 It tells us that there was an earthquake that day. 00:23:00.88\00:23:04.41 Now, if you want some extra biblical history, there are, 00:23:04.41\00:23:08.18 I think I can, off the top of my head, 00:23:08.18\00:23:09.92 think about three different references 00:23:09.92\00:23:11.89 that are even outside the Bible. 00:23:11.89\00:23:13.62 One would be from Flavius Josephus, who talked about 00:23:13.62\00:23:18.26 Jesus, and he specifically mentions that Pilate crucified 00:23:18.26\00:23:20.96 him. And then there are some Romans that wrote about it. 00:23:20.96\00:23:23.60 They were actually anti-Christian, they mocked 00:23:23.60\00:23:26.60 Christianity. And one of them is Pliny, 00:23:26.60\00:23:30.24 and then the other one was, I think, it's Tacitus, 00:23:30.24\00:23:33.14 that talked about the Christian sect 00:23:34.88\00:23:37.28 and that their leader was crucified, 00:23:37.28\00:23:39.11 and they claimed that he was raised. 00:23:39.11\00:23:40.65 So, I hope that answered your question Efrank. 00:23:40.65\00:23:43.79 But that's what we got in the Bible. 00:23:43.79\00:23:45.72 - Yeah, and then also just to add to that a little bit, 00:23:45.72\00:23:47.59 specifically, the Bible does tell us that Christ died 00:23:47.59\00:23:50.33 on the Day of Preparation or the Preparation Day. 00:23:50.33\00:23:53.56 We know that to be Friday. We also know it was a Passover. 00:23:53.56\00:23:56.83 It was a high Sabbath that next day. 00:23:56.83\00:23:59.33 So, there are some historical accounts in the Bible 00:23:59.33\00:24:03.04 that tell us a little bit 00:24:03.04\00:24:04.17 about what was happening in Israel at that time. 00:24:04.17\00:24:06.21 They were preparing for the Sabbath. 00:24:06.21\00:24:07.88 It was also gonna be the Passover. 00:24:07.88\00:24:09.44 - And when you look at the lunar cycle, 00:24:09.44\00:24:11.51 it all fits in with, I think, 31 A.D., 00:24:11.51\00:24:13.88 the Passover during 31 A.D. 00:24:13.88\00:24:16.08 would be the time of the crucifixion. 00:24:16.08\00:24:18.22 - Alright, thanks. 00:24:18.22\00:24:19.59 Next caller that we have is Jesus listening from Florida. 00:24:19.59\00:24:21.92 Jesus, welcome to the program. 00:24:21.92\00:24:23.63 - [Jesus] Hey Pastors, thank you for taking my call. 00:24:23.63\00:24:25.99 - Yeah. 00:24:25.99\00:24:26.90 - [Jesus] Okay, so my question had to do 00:24:28.16\00:24:30.37 around a verse over in Genesis, 00:24:30.37\00:24:33.10 specifically Genesis 6:2. 00:24:34.84\00:24:37.64 I remember hearing some, I guess, 00:24:37.64\00:24:39.51 you could say some references from another pastor, 00:24:39.51\00:24:42.24 Pastor Steven Bohr. 00:24:42.24\00:24:43.71 And he was talking about the fact 00:24:43.71\00:24:45.61 that the sons of God was actually not angels, 00:24:47.15\00:24:49.28 and it was the line of Seth. 00:24:49.28\00:24:50.65 I wanted to see if you guys had any biblical evidence 00:24:50.65\00:24:55.49 and/or resources that I could go and check out 00:24:56.59\00:24:59.46 that would give me more information 00:24:59.46\00:25:01.56 on like why is this becoming such a big thing, 00:25:01.56\00:25:04.17 I guess you could say, like how can I find the truth, 00:25:04.17\00:25:07.54 I guess you could say. 00:25:07.54\00:25:09.00 - Yeah, very good. 00:25:09.00\00:25:10.34 Well, first of all, let me tell you right out of the box 00:25:10.34\00:25:13.64 that we wrote a book on this 00:25:13.64\00:25:15.98 because so many people had questions on it, 00:25:15.98\00:25:17.51 and there's a lot of confusion. 00:25:17.51\00:25:19.98 Many people start reading their Bibles in January, 00:25:19.98\00:25:22.45 and we start getting calls early in January about Genesis 6 00:25:22.45\00:25:27.52 when the sons of God married the daughters of men, 00:25:28.82\00:25:31.69 then it says they had these giants, and people say, 00:25:31.69\00:25:34.56 "Who are the sons of God marrying the daughters of men?" 00:25:34.56\00:25:36.93 And we've heard everything from they're fallen angels, 00:25:36.93\00:25:40.00 they're aliens, they're demons, 00:25:40.00\00:25:42.47 and it's really not that complicated. 00:25:42.47\00:25:46.04 And we'll give you the book. 00:25:46.04\00:25:46.94 The book is called 00:25:46.94\00:25:48.04 "Aliens or Adopted, Who Are the Sons of God?" 00:25:48.04\00:25:52.45 And so, just for one thing, look at the book, 00:25:52.45\00:25:54.82 we have lots of references in the book, 00:25:54.82\00:25:57.39 but it's very clear that you read in 1 John 3, 00:25:57.39\00:26:02.46 "Behold, what manner of love the Father is bestowed on us, 00:26:03.83\00:26:05.29 that we should be called sons of God." 00:26:05.29\00:26:07.76 Isaiah talks about believers 00:26:07.76\00:26:09.10 as being sons and daughters of God. 00:26:09.10\00:26:11.50 And there is a place where it talks about the angels 00:26:11.50\00:26:15.24 when all the sons of God shouted for joy, 00:26:15.24\00:26:17.21 and it's maybe talking about angels, 00:26:17.21\00:26:19.01 but it's sort of a broad term. 00:26:19.01\00:26:21.64 But in the time of Adam and Eve, 00:26:21.64\00:26:23.95 when Cain walked away from the Lord marked, 00:26:23.95\00:26:28.12 and he's built a city, 00:26:28.12\00:26:30.35 and he was just living in rebellion to God. 00:26:30.35\00:26:33.09 And Seth, he was faithful. 00:26:33.09\00:26:36.09 And the line of Jesus comes through Seth. 00:26:36.09\00:26:39.13 They were called sons of God. They were offering sacrifice. 00:26:39.13\00:26:41.83 They believed in the Lord. 00:26:41.83\00:26:43.20 But when they began to intermarry, 00:26:44.40\00:26:46.43 that's when the wickedness filled the earth. 00:26:46.43\00:26:48.40 God did not want the sons of God, 00:26:48.40\00:26:49.94 the children of Seth intermarrying 00:26:49.94\00:26:51.57 with the daughters of Cain. 00:26:51.57\00:26:53.51 Just like he did not want Samson going to the Philistines. 00:26:53.51\00:26:56.48 He did not want Solomon taking many wives. 00:26:56.48\00:26:59.61 And that resulted in the great apostasy. 00:26:59.61\00:27:01.85 Ask for that free book called 00:27:01.85\00:27:04.05 "Aliens or Adopted, Who Are the Sons of God?" 00:27:04.05\00:27:06.29 Don't go away, friends. 00:27:06.29\00:27:07.39 We're gonna be back right after this break 00:27:07.39\00:27:08.89 with more questions. 00:27:08.89\00:27:10.26 (lively/ bright music) 00:27:10.26\00:27:13.63 - [Announcer 1] Stay tuned! 00:27:13.63\00:27:14.73 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:27:14.73\00:27:16.83 (lively/ cheerful music continues) 00:27:16.83\00:27:20.64 - [Announcer 2] Doug Batchelor was the teenage son 00:27:20.64\00:27:22.74 of a millionaire father and show-business mother, 00:27:22.74\00:27:25.54 yet he was living in a cave. 00:27:25.54\00:27:27.78 He had everything money could buy, everything but happiness, 00:27:27.78\00:27:31.38 but all of the fun and excitement he enjoyed 00:27:31.38\00:27:33.65 left his life out of control. 00:27:33.65\00:27:35.62 (car zooming) 00:27:35.62\00:27:36.99 His search eventually led him to a cave above Palm Springs 00:27:36.99\00:27:39.55 that became his home. 00:27:39.55\00:27:41.32 While Doug scavenged for food in garbage bins, 00:27:41.32\00:27:44.29 his father owned a yacht, a Learjet, 00:27:44.29\00:27:46.46 and an airline. Thank you for your patience. 00:30:51.55\00:30:53.85 - [Leigha] Thank you for taking my call! 00:30:55.08\00:30:57.15 - How can we help you tonight? 00:30:57.15\00:30:58.62 - [Leigha] My question for you guys this evening is, 00:31:00.19\00:31:01.82 will we see the wicked thrown into the lake of fire 00:31:01.82\00:31:04.89 from within the New Jerusalem? 00:31:04.89\00:31:07.13 - Well, it seems like we will. 00:31:07.13\00:31:10.40 There's a verse in Psalm 91. 00:31:11.37\00:31:14.70 It says, "Only with your eyes will you see 00:31:14.70\00:31:17.31 and behold the punishment of the wicked." 00:31:17.31\00:31:19.44 And so, sometimes, 00:31:20.64\00:31:22.48 we actually see vengeance come on the wicked in this life. 00:31:22.48\00:31:25.95 In the end there, 00:31:25.95\00:31:27.22 I think that you have witnesses in a judgment, 00:31:27.22\00:31:31.59 and the witnesses often behold the sentencing. 00:31:31.59\00:31:34.42 I suppose if someone wants to turn away, we'll be free. 00:31:34.42\00:31:37.09 But that's gonna happen. They're in the presence. 00:31:37.09\00:31:39.03 - Yeah, Revelation 20:9, talking about the wicked. 00:31:39.03\00:31:42.60 They surround the New Jerusalem. 00:31:42.60\00:31:44.17 It says, "They went up on the breadth of the earth. 00:31:44.17\00:31:45.67 They surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. 00:31:45.67\00:31:48.67 And fire came down from God out of Heaven and devoured them. 00:31:48.67\00:31:51.77 And the devil, who deceived them, 00:31:51.77\00:31:53.07 was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone 00:31:53.07\00:31:55.21 where the beast and the false prophet are. 00:31:55.21\00:31:57.41 And they'll be to tormented." 00:31:57.41\00:31:58.88 So, there you have the wicked surrounding the camp, 00:31:58.88\00:32:01.48 surrounding the New Jerusalem, 00:32:01.48\00:32:03.22 and fire coming and devouring them. 00:32:03.22\00:32:04.82 - Yeah, and it's in Psalm 91:8, 00:32:04.82\00:32:07.19 "Only with your eyes shall you look 00:32:07.19\00:32:09.02 and see the reward of the wicked." 00:32:09.02\00:32:11.33 So, it certainly, it's not that God's shielding us from it, 00:32:11.33\00:32:14.10 it doesn't seem. 00:32:14.10\00:32:15.36 And there'll be people out there 00:32:15.36\00:32:17.57 that have been very hard on God's people, 00:32:17.57\00:32:21.10 and there'll be some recompense in that. 00:32:21.10\00:32:22.94 Not that anyone would take pleasure in it, 00:32:22.94\00:32:25.14 but we're seeing justice fulfilled. 00:32:25.14\00:32:26.98 - Alright, we got Daymond listening from Oklahoma. 00:32:28.34\00:32:30.31 Daymond welcome to the program. 00:32:30.31\00:32:31.85 - [Daymond] Thank you, guys. Thanks, Pastors, for having me. 00:32:33.55\00:32:35.48 - Yeah. 00:32:35.48\00:32:36.82 - [Daymond] My question was about the Second Coming of Jesus 00:32:36.82\00:32:40.06 the Bible says that every eye will see Him 00:32:40.06\00:32:43.46 coming in the clouds, 00:32:43.46\00:32:44.56 but it also says that the wicked are destroyed 00:32:44.56\00:32:48.30 by the brightness of His coming. 00:32:48.30\00:32:50.33 So, I was wondering, 00:32:50.33\00:32:51.97 could you give a better explanation on how that might 00:32:51.97\00:32:55.20 work if every eye will see Him, 00:32:55.20\00:32:56.77 but the wicked are destroyed when He comes? 00:32:56.77\00:33:01.04 - Well, I don't think there's a conflict. 00:33:01.04\00:33:02.81 I think that, the way I picture it anyway, 00:33:02.81\00:33:05.51 is that when the Lord comes, 00:33:05.51\00:33:07.88 the wicked see Him coming, 00:33:07.88\00:33:10.12 and then it talks about they flee from His presence. 00:33:10.12\00:33:13.89 And you read in Revelation, it says, 00:33:13.89\00:33:15.22 "They call for the rocks and the mountains to fall upon them 00:33:15.22\00:33:17.96 and hide them from the presence of the Lord." 00:33:17.96\00:33:20.93 And ultimately, as the Lord approaches and gets closer, 00:33:20.93\00:33:23.93 I think they're destroyed by that brilliance of His coming. 00:33:23.93\00:33:27.00 I mean, I can see a fire far away, 00:33:27.00\00:33:28.80 and I see it very clearly, 00:33:28.80\00:33:30.14 but as the fire gets closer, 00:33:30.14\00:33:31.77 you start to suffer the effects of it. 00:33:32.87\00:33:34.61 - Yeah, Revelation 6 talks about the wicked 00:33:34.61\00:33:36.78 turning to the rocks and mountains and saying, 00:33:36.78\00:33:38.41 "Fall on us, 00:33:38.41\00:33:39.78 hide us from the face of Him who sits up on the throne 00:33:39.78\00:33:41.65 and from the wrath of the Lamb." 00:33:41.65\00:33:42.98 So, they do see, at least for a period of time, 00:33:42.98\00:33:45.45 they get to see Jesus coming. 00:33:45.45\00:33:46.86 And like you say, as He comes closer, 00:33:46.86\00:33:48.52 it seems as though the glory of Christ 00:33:48.52\00:33:50.99 is what eventually destroys the wicked. 00:33:50.99\00:33:53.63 - Ultimately, consumes them. 00:33:53.63\00:33:55.56 - And we got Matthew listening in Michigan. 00:33:55.56\00:33:57.60 Matthew, welcome to the program. 00:33:57.60\00:33:59.17 - [Matthew] Yeah, hi, how's it going? 00:34:00.34\00:34:01.57 - Good. 00:34:01.57\00:34:02.47 - My question is in 1 Samuel 25:43, 00:34:03.57\00:34:08.04 and that's when David marries both, 00:34:09.51\00:34:11.35 takes both of them as wives, 00:34:12.81\00:34:14.85 is there any symbolic meaning behind that 00:34:16.79\00:34:19.95 in taking both of them? 00:34:19.95\00:34:21.16 - When he married Abigail, and he took Ahinnoam of Jezreel? 00:34:22.52\00:34:26.56 - [Matthew] I don't wanna make something out of nothing, 00:34:28.00\00:34:30.63 but to me it sounds kind of like, 00:34:30.63\00:34:32.83 is this symbolizing salvation 00:34:32.83\00:34:36.24 to both the Jews and Gentiles, or...? 00:34:36.24\00:34:39.87 - You know, I'm looking at this right now with fresh eyes 00:34:39.87\00:34:42.21 just 'cause I never have thought of that 00:34:42.21\00:34:44.25 until you asked the question. 00:34:44.25\00:34:45.71 I'm sure there's meaning here 00:34:45.71\00:34:46.82 that I may not see on the surface. 00:34:46.82\00:34:49.82 Also, just looking at the Scripture as it's written, 00:34:49.82\00:34:52.72 it wasn't uncommon then for people that had the resources 00:34:52.72\00:34:56.02 to take more than one wife. 00:34:56.02\00:34:57.43 And sometimes, 00:34:57.43\00:34:58.73 their marriage would develop into an alliance. 00:34:58.73\00:35:02.33 Now, for one thing, Nabal had died. 00:35:02.33\00:35:05.83 Nabal was an extremely wealthy man, owned a lot of property. 00:35:05.83\00:35:09.40 He owned a lot of goods. 00:35:09.40\00:35:10.91 He died, I think the property then fell to Abigail. 00:35:10.91\00:35:14.18 There's no record that she had any children, 00:35:14.18\00:35:16.61 and David in marrying her, 00:35:16.61\00:35:19.45 he ended up getting all that was Nabal's. 00:35:19.45\00:35:21.82 And I think he married Ahinoam of Jezreel, 00:35:22.92\00:35:27.66 and they both became his wives. 00:35:27.66\00:35:29.16 And it talks about David's original wife, 00:35:29.16\00:35:32.33 Michal, that had been given by King Saul, 00:35:32.33\00:35:34.10 had been taken away from him 00:35:34.10\00:35:35.20 and given to someone else by the king. 00:35:35.20\00:35:37.70 So, they practiced polygamy, which was not God's plan. 00:35:37.70\00:35:42.77 And David started going down that road as did... 00:35:43.91\00:35:46.44 It tells us that not only did Saul have a wife, 00:35:46.44\00:35:48.28 it said later he had concubines. 00:35:48.28\00:35:50.41 And so a lot of the kings back then, that was the custom. 00:35:50.41\00:35:54.22 - Of course, David didn't stop with just two wives. 00:35:54.22\00:35:56.79 - He ended up with, I think, 10 wives 00:35:56.79\00:35:58.22 and some concubines as well. 00:35:58.22\00:35:59.52 (both chuckling) 00:35:59.52\00:36:00.96 - Alright, well, thanks for your call, Matthew. 00:36:00.96\00:36:02.42 We've got Joe listening in Florida. 00:36:02.42\00:36:04.36 Joe, welcome to the program. 00:36:04.36\00:36:05.83 - [Joe] How you doing, Pastors? 00:36:08.36\00:36:09.60 First of all, I appreciate both of y'all. 00:36:09.60\00:36:12.37 - Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:36:12.37\00:36:14.44 - [Joe] Brilliant program. 00:36:14.44\00:36:15.80 So, let me give you a quick foundation, 00:36:16.94\00:36:19.01 the reason I'm asking this question 00:36:19.01\00:36:20.58 is because I've always felt that it was taught 00:36:20.58\00:36:24.58 that in God's eye sin is sin. 00:36:24.58\00:36:26.92 So, let's just say, 00:36:28.12\00:36:29.42 I have a homosexual friend, he's a Christian, 00:36:29.42\00:36:33.22 and I heard this from a pastor, and I thought, 00:36:33.22\00:36:35.02 "That just don't sound right," 00:36:35.02\00:36:36.26 because in Hebrews, it says, 00:36:36.26\00:36:38.63 "I'll forgive your sins, your iniquities all, 00:36:38.63\00:36:40.70 remembering (crackling drowns out voice) 00:36:40.70\00:36:41.46 which makes me think, you know, 00:36:41.46\00:36:43.93 makes me know that our past and future sins are forgiven 00:36:43.93\00:36:46.74 as a Christian person. 00:36:46.74\00:36:48.74 So, if a homosexual stays a homosexual 00:36:48.74\00:36:53.31 and he calls himself a Christian, when he dies, 00:36:53.31\00:36:55.31 will he go to hell, or will he go to Heaven? 00:36:55.31\00:36:57.81 - Pastor Ross, rather than our commenting, 00:36:57.81\00:37:01.18 the verse you find there in, 00:37:01.18\00:37:02.85 I believe it's in Corinthians where it said, 00:37:02.85\00:37:05.75 "Do not be deceived." 00:37:05.75\00:37:07.66 - 1 Corinthians 6:9, where it says, 00:37:07.66\00:37:10.16 "Do not be deceived that unrighteousness will not inherit 00:37:10.16\00:37:12.86 the kingdom of God. 00:37:12.86\00:37:14.30 Do not be deceived." 00:37:14.30\00:37:15.10 - It says it twice- 00:37:15.10\00:37:16.50 "Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, 00:37:16.50\00:37:19.53 nor homosexuals, nor sodomites," 00:37:19.53\00:37:21.54 and then the list continues. 00:37:21.54\00:37:23.20 But it does end. 00:37:23.20\00:37:24.51 It talks about thieves, covetousness, 00:37:24.51\00:37:26.47 drunkenness, revelries. 00:37:26.47\00:37:28.24 And then verse 11 says, 00:37:28.24\00:37:29.58 "And such were some of you, but you were washed, 00:37:29.58\00:37:32.91 but you were sanctified, 00:37:32.91\00:37:34.25 but you were justified in the name of Jesus." 00:37:34.25\00:37:36.72 So in the church, there were some people 00:37:36.72\00:37:38.25 that had some pretty rough reputations or backgrounds, 00:37:38.25\00:37:42.32 but they came to Christ. 00:37:42.32\00:37:43.49 They repented of their sins. 00:37:43.49\00:37:44.86 And yet Paul says, "You're part of the family of God." 00:37:44.86\00:37:47.60 But there is a repentance involved. 00:37:47.60\00:37:49.10 They didn't just continue in their sin. 00:37:49.10\00:37:51.17 - Yeah, and just also notice in that verse, 00:37:51.17\00:37:53.97 specifically He says adulterers, 00:37:54.94\00:37:57.24 which would be heterosexual immorality. 00:37:57.24\00:38:01.34 And then He says homosexuals, 00:38:01.34\00:38:02.54 and that's homosexual immorality. 00:38:02.54\00:38:04.05 If a person's practicing immorality, 00:38:04.05\00:38:06.45 the Bible calls it a sin, 00:38:06.45\00:38:08.12 and you need to repent from and turn from your sins. 00:38:08.12\00:38:11.15 Now, there are some people 00:38:11.15\00:38:12.22 that are tempted with those tendencies, 00:38:12.22\00:38:15.49 but whatever your tendency of temptation is, 00:38:15.49\00:38:18.23 there some things that tempt you out there, 00:38:18.23\00:38:19.76 I have actually no interest in, 00:38:19.76\00:38:21.10 and you may have no interest in the things that trouble me, 00:38:21.10\00:38:23.83 but whatever your temptation is, 00:38:23.83\00:38:25.40 we can do all things through Christ. 00:38:25.40\00:38:27.14 God wants us to turn away. 00:38:27.14\00:38:28.54 Jesus calls us to be overcomers and live holy lives. 00:38:28.54\00:38:31.94 - Absolutely, Pastor Doug, 00:38:32.74\00:38:33.84 And the good news of the Gospel is Jesus said, 00:38:33.84\00:38:35.98 "If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed." 00:38:35.98\00:38:39.11 Now, we know sometimes there's a struggle involved, 00:38:39.11\00:38:41.25 and the greatest battle that we have to fight 00:38:41.25\00:38:43.28 is the surrender of self, 00:38:43.28\00:38:45.09 but we need to make that commitment daily. 00:38:45.09\00:38:47.26 As the apostle Paul says, "I die daily." 00:38:47.26\00:38:49.76 We have a book that deals with all kinds of temptations, 00:38:49.76\00:38:52.83 'cause the principles are relevant 00:38:52.83\00:38:54.30 for every kind of temptation. 00:38:54.30\00:38:55.60 It's called "Tips for Resisting Temptation," 00:38:55.60\00:38:58.40 whether that's eating too much dessert, 00:38:58.40\00:39:00.64 or whether it's drunkenness, or smoking, 00:39:00.64\00:39:03.41 or some sexual addiction, 00:39:03.41\00:39:05.61 the Bible gives us ways in which we can resist. 00:39:05.61\00:39:08.01 And we'll be happy to send this 00:39:08.01\00:39:09.01 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:39:09.01\00:39:10.98 All you have to do is call the number 800-835-6747, 00:39:10.98\00:39:15.08 and you can ask for the book. 00:39:15.08\00:39:16.22 It's called "Tips for Resisting Temptation," 00:39:16.22\00:39:18.79 some good practical Bible principles 00:39:18.79\00:39:21.16 that you'd find a blessing. 00:39:21.16\00:39:23.29 Next caller that we have is Robert, 00:39:23.29\00:39:25.33 listening from Washington. 00:39:25.33\00:39:26.63 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:39:26.63\00:39:28.20 - [Robert] Hi, Pastor Ross. Hi, Pastor Batchelor. 00:39:29.50\00:39:31.83 - Hi Robert, thanks for calling. 00:39:31.83\00:39:33.50 - [Robert] You're welcome. 00:39:34.57\00:39:35.67 As you can see, it's a pretty simple question, 00:39:35.67\00:39:38.37 I was wondering if Moses had two wives simultaneously. 00:39:38.37\00:39:43.38 - There's no hard evidence that he did. 00:39:48.38\00:39:50.05 It appears, of course, first Moses marries Zipporah. 00:39:50.05\00:39:54.02 She is, I think, the eldest daughter of Jethro. 00:39:54.02\00:39:57.43 And later talks about Zipporah and Moses 00:39:57.43\00:39:59.89 going to Egypt together, 00:39:59.89\00:40:01.66 but she turns back into the wilderness. 00:40:01.66\00:40:03.53 And then, he is reunited with her, 00:40:03.53\00:40:05.50 father-in-law's there, so forth. 00:40:05.50\00:40:07.54 Then by the time you get to the Book of Numbers, 00:40:07.54\00:40:10.24 it tells us that Aaron and Miriam were upset 00:40:10.24\00:40:12.57 because of the Ethiopian that Moses had married. 00:40:12.57\00:40:15.84 Now, we don't know if Zipporah died, and he remarried, 00:40:15.84\00:40:19.75 and they're bothered by that. 00:40:19.75\00:40:21.38 Or if it's also calling Zipporah, 00:40:21.38\00:40:23.95 who's a Midianite, an Ethiopian. 00:40:23.95\00:40:26.39 Because Ethiopia was a very broad term 00:40:26.39\00:40:28.69 that was used not for the borders of the country today, 00:40:28.69\00:40:31.66 but Ethiopia could have been anyone 00:40:31.66\00:40:34.10 in the Northern part of Africa, 00:40:34.10\00:40:36.90 and the Midianites lived just across the Red Sea from that. 00:40:36.90\00:40:40.84 So, we don't know if it's saying 00:40:40.84\00:40:43.20 they were still upset about him marrying Zipporah, 00:40:43.20\00:40:45.91 or if she had died and he remarried. 00:40:45.91\00:40:47.88 You can't tell from the texts exactly what's going on there. 00:40:47.88\00:40:50.85 - [Pastor Ross] Yeah, that's the best- 00:40:53.62\00:40:55.22 - It never tells us 00:40:55.22\00:40:56.52 about Moses having two wives at the same time 00:40:56.52\00:40:57.89 that's mentioned in the Bible. 00:40:57.89\00:41:00.16 - Alright, thank you for your, Robert. 00:41:00.16\00:41:01.62 Next caller that we have. 00:41:01.62\00:41:02.89 Let's see, we've got Michael listening in Texas. 00:41:02.89\00:41:05.83 Michael, welcome to the program. 00:41:05.83\00:41:07.50 - [Michael] Oh, hello. 00:41:09.03\00:41:10.37 Hello, Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:41:10.37\00:41:13.17 I hope I'm saying this right. 00:41:14.44\00:41:16.14 I have a question for 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 00:41:16.14\00:41:21.21 about Peter saying that women should be quiet, 00:41:22.31\00:41:27.12 be silent in church? 00:41:28.05\00:41:29.98 And I'm just trying to understand that. 00:41:29.98\00:41:33.36 - Good. Let me read it for everyone who's listening. 00:41:33.36\00:41:36.09 We've got a lot of folks, of course, 00:41:36.09\00:41:37.23 they're driving or working. 00:41:37.23\00:41:38.96 And it says here, 1 Corinthians 14:34, 00:41:38.96\00:41:42.53 "Let your women keep silent in the church, 00:41:42.53\00:41:44.87 for they're not permitted to speak, 00:41:44.87\00:41:46.33 but they're to be submissive as the law also says. 00:41:46.33\00:41:48.74 And if they wanna learn something, 00:41:48.74\00:41:50.21 let them ask their own husbands at home, 00:41:50.21\00:41:52.37 for it's shameful for women to speak in church. 00:41:52.37\00:41:55.01 Or did the word of God come originally from you? 00:41:55.01\00:41:57.75 Or what was it that it reached? 00:41:57.75\00:41:59.91 If anyone thinks himself a prophet or spiritual, 00:41:59.91\00:42:02.72 let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you 00:42:02.72\00:42:05.22 are the commandments of the Lord." 00:42:05.22\00:42:07.42 So, is this a uniform statement 00:42:07.42\00:42:11.49 that a woman is never to speak in church, 00:42:11.49\00:42:13.33 or was he talking about a specific situation? 00:42:13.33\00:42:16.40 Well, let's step back. 00:42:16.40\00:42:17.70 And when you find a difficult verse like this, 00:42:17.70\00:42:19.60 you've gotta compare it with other Scripture, 00:42:19.60\00:42:21.34 compare Scripture with Scripture. 00:42:21.34\00:42:23.24 Do we have other examples of women 00:42:23.24\00:42:25.34 that are, with God's approval, speaking in church? 00:42:25.34\00:42:29.91 Well, when Jesus was born, 00:42:29.91\00:42:31.31 it talks about Anna the prophetess that came, 00:42:31.31\00:42:34.62 and she was speaking there in the church after Simon. 00:42:34.62\00:42:39.52 And you've got a number of women in the Bible 00:42:39.52\00:42:41.89 that were called prophets. 00:42:41.89\00:42:43.73 And you've got Hannah who is a praying in the church, 00:42:43.73\00:42:48.76 and when she speaks to Eli. 00:42:49.66\00:42:51.37 You've got Huldah, you've got Deborah. 00:42:51.37\00:42:55.10 And then you've got the daughters of Philip 00:42:57.24\00:42:58.77 in the New Testament. 00:42:58.77\00:43:00.11 It says he had four daughters that did prophesy. 00:43:00.11\00:43:02.08 Then it tells us 00:43:02.08\00:43:03.41 that in the New Testament you have Aquila and Priscilla, 00:43:03.41\00:43:07.65 husband and wife team that studied with Apollos. 00:43:07.65\00:43:10.25 I think it's hard to imagine 00:43:10.25\00:43:11.62 that none of those women were ever able 00:43:11.62\00:43:13.86 to open their mouths and speak in church. 00:43:13.86\00:43:15.76 Paul writes a lot to the Corinthian church 00:43:15.76\00:43:18.36 because their services were very much out of order. 00:43:18.36\00:43:21.26 Now, just you kind of gotta get the picture, 00:43:21.26\00:43:23.37 men and women did not always sit with each other 00:43:23.37\00:43:25.83 in these early Christian churches 00:43:25.83\00:43:28.00 just like in the Jewish churches. 00:43:28.00\00:43:29.17 They adopted that. 00:43:29.17\00:43:30.81 And women were probably calling over to their husbands 00:43:30.81\00:43:33.48 and telling their husbands what Paul really meant 00:43:33.48\00:43:35.88 or what the preacher meant or instructing them. 00:43:35.88\00:43:37.71 And it was kind of humbling for the husbands 00:43:37.71\00:43:39.51 to have their wives teaching them or chastising them. 00:43:39.51\00:43:43.02 Or there is some disruption going on, and Paul said, 00:43:43.02\00:43:46.69 "Let them keep silent. 00:43:46.69\00:43:47.76 If they wanna ask a question, ask at home." 00:43:47.76\00:43:50.29 So, I think he's talking about a specific issue there. 00:43:50.29\00:43:53.36 - And there were also a number of different cultures 00:43:53.36\00:43:56.03 and different languages that you read about 00:43:56.03\00:43:57.93 that was present in the church in Corinth. 00:43:57.93\00:44:00.17 Not only does Paul address this, 00:44:00.17\00:44:01.47 but he also says when somebody speaks, 00:44:01.47\00:44:03.27 make sure that they speak in a language 00:44:03.27\00:44:05.87 that people can understand. 00:44:05.87\00:44:06.98 Otherwise, you need to get a translation. 00:44:06.98\00:44:08.54 And you do it one at a time. 00:44:08.54\00:44:10.18 There needs to be order in the church. 00:44:10.18\00:44:12.01 So, I think this admonition from Paul 00:44:12.01\00:44:14.15 was to deal with the specific situation 00:44:14.15\00:44:16.15 that was occurring in that church. 00:44:16.15\00:44:18.39 - It talks in first Corinthians 14. 00:44:18.39\00:44:20.76 Yeah... 14. 00:44:22.39\00:44:24.06 It says, "If the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, 00:44:24.06\00:44:26.49 I'd rather speak five words with my understanding 00:44:26.49\00:44:28.70 that I might instruct others in 10,000 00:44:28.70\00:44:29.66 in an unknown tongue." 00:44:29.66\00:44:31.50 And there's just a lot of jammering and jabbering going on 00:44:31.50\00:44:34.87 with all those different slave groups 00:44:34.87\00:44:36.50 in the Roman Empire in Corinth. 00:44:36.50\00:44:38.04 They came from different countries, and Paul said, 00:44:38.04\00:44:41.74 "Look, ask your husbands when you get home, 00:44:41.74\00:44:44.01 tell the women to be quiet." (chuckles) 00:44:44.01\00:44:46.21 So yeah, I've seen some churches that say 00:44:46.21\00:44:49.22 that now women aren't to speak in church. 00:44:49.22\00:44:51.22 Well does that mean 00:44:51.22\00:44:52.32 a woman can't teach a Sabbath school class 00:44:52.32\00:44:53.92 or a Sunday school class? 00:44:53.92\00:44:55.39 Does God not give them those gifts? 00:44:55.39\00:44:57.76 So yeah, a difficult verse. 00:44:57.76\00:45:01.20 - Alright, thanks for your call. 00:45:01.20\00:45:02.26 We've got Carolle listening in New York. 00:45:02.26\00:45:03.77 Carolle, welcome to the program. 00:45:03.77\00:45:05.67 - Yes, hi, good evening - Good evening. 00:45:06.67\00:45:08.50 - Pastor Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:45:08.50\00:45:10.61 How are you? 00:45:10.61\00:45:11.97 - Blessed, thank you. 00:45:11.97\00:45:13.11 - [Carolle] Amen. Amen. 00:45:14.01\00:45:15.11 I was reading the Book of Judges. 00:45:15.11\00:45:19.95 I had finished reading Joshua, 00:45:19.95\00:45:22.62 and now who would Israel after Joshua had died? 00:45:23.92\00:45:28.69 'Cause I know Judges... 00:45:28.69\00:45:30.69 What was Judges about? 00:45:30.69\00:45:31.99 Like were they judging the people of Israel 00:45:31.99\00:45:34.93 and ruling them at the same time? 00:45:34.93\00:45:37.60 - That's a great question! 00:45:37.60\00:45:39.20 Now, by the time of Samuel, 00:45:39.20\00:45:41.40 the people said, 00:45:41.40\00:45:42.77 "We wanna be like the other nations, give us a king." 00:45:42.77\00:45:46.11 And God said, "I've been your King. 00:45:46.11\00:45:48.88 Why are you asking for a king now? 00:45:48.88\00:45:50.65 The Lord was their leader. 00:45:51.75\00:45:53.95 He would guide them through prophets, 00:45:53.95\00:45:55.45 and He would speak through judges. 00:45:55.45\00:45:56.92 And sometimes, the judges were... 00:45:56.92\00:45:58.55 yeah, they would judge difficult cases. 00:45:58.55\00:46:00.62 Bible says Samson was a judge, 00:46:01.76\00:46:03.22 but it never gives an account 00:46:03.22\00:46:04.33 of him sitting down at the judge's bench, 00:46:04.33\00:46:07.03 but he became a leader among the people. 00:46:07.03\00:46:09.83 - I think within the divisions within Israel, 00:46:09.83\00:46:11.90 there would be designated judges 00:46:11.90\00:46:14.87 where the local people would bring their concerns, 00:46:14.87\00:46:17.61 and they would look at the law of Moses that had been given, 00:46:17.61\00:46:20.54 and they would make a judgment based on these various cases. 00:46:20.54\00:46:23.38 And for a long time, that seemed to work 00:46:23.38\00:46:25.41 as you said up until the time of Samuel. 00:46:25.41\00:46:28.08 And then they wanted a king to judge over them, 00:46:28.08\00:46:30.09 and then the hard cases would go all the way up to the king, 00:46:30.09\00:46:32.89 and he would make the final decision. 00:46:32.89\00:46:34.79 But there was a period of time during the judges... 00:46:34.79\00:46:37.09 Also, there's an interesting verse talking about that time, 00:46:37.09\00:46:40.13 Pastor Doug, where it says, 00:46:40.13\00:46:41.46 "Every man did that which was right in his own eyes." 00:46:41.46\00:46:44.23 So there was apostasy prevalent in the country. 00:46:44.23\00:46:47.20 Some were worshiping even these pagan deities in the area, 00:46:47.20\00:46:50.51 so there was some trouble during this time too. 00:46:50.51\00:46:52.67 - Yep. 00:46:52.67\00:46:53.98 And so as you mentioned, during the time of the judges, 00:46:53.98\00:46:56.31 they did have Levites and priests in the country, 00:46:56.31\00:46:58.98 and they would probably handle the smaller cases. 00:46:58.98\00:47:01.32 But after Moses and Joshua died, they thought, 00:47:01.32\00:47:03.99 "Well, who is gonna be the Supreme Court 00:47:03.99\00:47:06.02 if there's differences, 00:47:06.02\00:47:07.56 and you can't appeal beyond the leader of your tribe 00:47:08.89\00:47:11.86 and the different judges? 00:47:11.86\00:47:13.73 And it talks about Ehud, and Deborah, and Othniel, 00:47:13.73\00:47:18.33 and Gideon, and Jephthah. 00:47:18.33\00:47:20.14 And so, there's several of them 00:47:20.14\00:47:21.27 that were sort of leaders of Israel, 00:47:21.27\00:47:23.67 more in a military sense than a king, really. 00:47:23.67\00:47:26.27 - Alright, thanks for your call. 00:47:27.08\00:47:28.44 We've got, let's see, Makail listening from Washington. 00:47:28.44\00:47:32.75 Makail, welcome to the program. 00:47:32.75\00:47:35.28 - [Mikhail] Hi, yeah, its Mikhail. 00:47:35.28\00:47:37.29 - Mikhail, welcome. 00:47:37.29\00:47:39.65 - [Mikhail] My question is, 00:47:39.65\00:47:41.02 kind of to do with the week of creation. 00:47:41.02\00:47:43.73 So far, I noticed that in religion, 00:47:43.73\00:47:45.86 it's becoming a bit of an idea 00:47:45.86\00:47:48.03 that each day in the seven-day week 00:47:48.03\00:47:53.10 was a certain hundred million years, 00:47:54.10\00:47:55.37 which is not true. 00:47:55.37\00:47:56.74 I just wanna know if you could give me some points 00:47:56.74\00:47:58.51 to kind of see from the Bible that, 00:47:58.51\00:48:02.11 okay, this says that it's literal days, 00:48:02.11\00:48:04.61 not millions of years. 00:48:04.61\00:48:05.98 - Yeah, if you're gonna believe the Bible, 00:48:05.98\00:48:08.28 you need to believe 00:48:08.28\00:48:09.95 that the world was created in six literal days. 00:48:09.95\00:48:13.12 'Cause Jesus said, "If you don't believe Moses, 00:48:13.12\00:48:14.89 then you don't believe Me." 00:48:14.89\00:48:16.42 And it's very clear. 00:48:16.42\00:48:18.69 It says the evening and the morning where the first day. 00:48:18.69\00:48:20.83 Everything in the language is telling us 00:48:20.83\00:48:23.03 that this is a regular 24-hour day, 00:48:23.03\00:48:27.34 talks about the sun and the moon, 00:48:27.34\00:48:29.57 it's the Earth's rotating one time on its axis. 00:48:30.91\00:48:33.61 The other thing is if these are long ages, 00:48:33.61\00:48:35.78 how can God make the vegetation on the third day 00:48:35.78\00:48:40.55 and not make the moon or the sun until the fourth day? 00:48:40.55\00:48:44.25 Now, plants will live a day without the sun, 00:48:44.25\00:48:46.12 but they're not gonna live a 1,000 years. 00:48:46.12\00:48:48.39 So, there's no way it works if you try and say 00:48:48.39\00:48:51.99 these are great epics that are thousands 00:48:51.99\00:48:54.23 or millions of years. 00:48:54.23\00:48:55.66 The Lord made these things in six literal days. 00:48:56.97\00:49:00.30 And Bible tells us even in the 10 commandments, 00:49:00.30\00:49:02.90 "For in six days, the Lord made the Heaven and the Earth 00:49:02.90\00:49:05.14 and sea... all that is in them." 00:49:05.14\00:49:07.08 And that's in the Sabbath command, so yeah. 00:49:07.08\00:49:10.08 - The Bible says, 00:49:10.08\00:49:11.38 "The evening and the morning was the first day, 00:49:11.38\00:49:13.15 the evening and the morning was the second day." 00:49:13.15\00:49:15.32 Well you only gonna have one morning and one evening 00:49:15.32\00:49:17.85 in a 24-hour time period. 00:49:17.85\00:49:19.45 You're not gonna have it over thousands of years. 00:49:19.45\00:49:21.06 - That's right. 00:49:21.06\00:49:22.42 - So the Bible's pretty clear it's one literal day there. 00:49:22.42\00:49:25.13 Okay, next caller that we have, 00:49:25.13\00:49:25.93 Ulises listening from Arizona. 00:49:25.93\00:49:28.06 Ulises, welcome to the program. 00:49:28.06\00:49:29.66 - [Ulises] Hello, Pastors, can you hear me? 00:49:30.93\00:49:32.30 - Loud and clear. 00:49:32.30\00:49:33.34 - [Ulises] Thank you. 00:49:34.64\00:49:36.04 My question was, well, I've been like following Christ, 00:49:36.04\00:49:40.84 basically, since like I was born, me and my brothers, 00:49:42.41\00:49:47.05 and sometimes, it just feels like each day 00:49:47.05\00:49:50.19 or there's like days 00:49:50.19\00:49:52.09 where it just feels like it's a little repetitive. 00:49:52.09\00:49:55.46 And I was just wondering 00:49:55.46\00:49:56.56 if there was like any Bible characters 00:49:56.56\00:50:00.50 that could help like a young person like me and many others 00:50:00.50\00:50:04.07 to help us like spiritually grow? 00:50:04.07\00:50:07.44 And so, we'd like- 00:50:07.44\00:50:09.47 - As some role models, maybe? 00:50:09.47\00:50:11.61 - [Ulises] Yes. 00:50:11.61\00:50:12.41 - Okay, in the New Testament, 00:50:12.41\00:50:14.31 one that comes to mind, and Pastor Ross may think of some, 00:50:14.31\00:50:16.95 is you have Timothy. 00:50:16.95\00:50:18.31 Paul says to Timothy, "Don't let anyone despise your youth 00:50:18.31\00:50:20.88 though you are a young man." 00:50:20.88\00:50:22.62 And he tells Timothy, "Flee youthful lusts." 00:50:22.62\00:50:25.15 Says, you know, 00:50:25.15\00:50:26.49 there's a lot of temptations young people go through, 00:50:26.49\00:50:28.19 especially when they go from being children to adults. 00:50:28.19\00:50:31.43 And they're assaulted with all these raging hormones, 00:50:31.43\00:50:36.20 and he tells 'em, "Live a pure life." 00:50:36.20\00:50:38.67 And then you've got Samuel. 00:50:38.67\00:50:40.10 Samuel starts out very young, 00:50:40.10\00:50:42.04 but he grows up in the temple, 00:50:42.04\00:50:43.57 and he's surrounded with some dishonesty and bad behavior, 00:50:43.57\00:50:47.04 but he stays faithful to God in spite of that. 00:50:47.04\00:50:50.58 - And you got Joseph who was a young man 00:50:50.58\00:50:52.08 taken captive to Egypt. 00:50:52.08\00:50:54.18 You got David who was a young man when he defeated Goliath. 00:50:54.18\00:50:58.69 You've got Esther. 00:50:58.69\00:51:00.29 That was a young girl when she was taken to the palace. 00:51:00.29\00:51:02.76 And then if you really wanna go even younger, 00:51:02.76\00:51:04.53 you got the little maid 00:51:04.53\00:51:06.06 that was taking care of Namaan's wife 00:51:06.06\00:51:08.33 and when Naaman, the leper. 00:51:08.33\00:51:10.70 So yeah, there's a lot of examples of young people 00:51:10.70\00:51:13.30 and even children in the Bible who stood up 00:51:13.30\00:51:15.40 for what was right. 00:51:15.40\00:51:16.57 - That's right, good point. 00:51:16.57\00:51:18.44 - Alright, thanks for your call. 00:51:18.44\00:51:19.41 We've got John listening from Illinois. 00:51:19.41\00:51:22.01 John, welcome to the program. 00:51:22.01\00:51:23.48 - [John] Hello, and thank you. 00:51:24.71\00:51:26.21 I'm gonna be doing a study 00:51:29.05\00:51:30.39 on the Book of James with my coworker, 00:51:30.39\00:51:32.62 and he is a non-Adventist. 00:51:32.62\00:51:34.66 He does know my beliefs, 00:51:35.89\00:51:38.09 but I have been cross-referencing different 00:51:38.09\00:51:41.40 Bibles to get a better understanding of what's written 00:51:41.40\00:51:46.20 in James. I was seeing if both of you had any suggestions 00:51:46.20\00:51:50.14 on how I could lead my first Bible study with a believer, 00:51:50.14\00:51:54.98 and potentially, two nonbelievers. 00:51:54.98\00:51:57.65 - Yeah, and the focus is on the Book of James? 00:51:57.65\00:52:01.68 Is that right? 00:52:01.68\00:52:02.85 - [John] Yes, correct. 00:52:02.85\00:52:04.92 - Oh, that's a great book, actually. 00:52:04.92\00:52:06.29 James is, you know, he was the older brother of Jesus, 00:52:06.29\00:52:09.09 probably the older half-brother of Jesus. 00:52:09.09\00:52:11.43 And he just talks about the basics of the Christian life. 00:52:11.43\00:52:15.03 I've got a friend, 00:52:15.03\00:52:16.16 one of the friends we play racketball with, 00:52:16.16\00:52:17.50 he's going through a men's Bible study in James, 00:52:17.50\00:52:19.33 and he just says, "Wow, this is eye-opening." 00:52:19.33\00:52:21.70 Fantastic! 00:52:21.70\00:52:23.07 James talks about, of course, faith without works is dead. 00:52:23.07\00:52:27.04 He talks about having faith that you live out in your life. 00:52:27.04\00:52:30.51 He talks about the practicality of Christians 00:52:30.51\00:52:32.55 in their speech. 00:52:32.55\00:52:33.58 Be careful what you say. 00:52:33.58\00:52:34.95 You can do a lot of good or a lot of harm with your words. 00:52:34.95\00:52:38.72 Yeah, James is just a fantastic book. 00:52:38.72\00:52:41.06 So, I don't know if there's any particular advice. 00:52:41.06\00:52:43.99 New King James Version is a great version 00:52:45.06\00:52:47.03 to study that from. 00:52:47.03\00:52:48.03 - And there's also some great commentaries 00:52:48.03\00:52:49.13 that one can look at that'll give you 00:52:49.13\00:52:50.97 some additional historical information about that 00:52:50.97\00:52:53.20 and help to give you some cross-references for the verses. 00:52:53.20\00:52:56.50 But to start in James 1:1, 00:52:56.50\00:52:58.71 and just start reading, and studying, and cross-referencing, 00:52:58.71\00:53:01.88 it is a great study. 00:53:01.88\00:53:03.95 - So yeah, Lord be with you. I think that it'll go well. 00:53:03.95\00:53:08.22 - Alright, last caller that we have tonight. 00:53:08.22\00:53:09.72 We've got Sherie listening from Montana. 00:53:09.72\00:53:11.75 Sherie, we have just about a minute or so. 00:53:11.75\00:53:13.89 - Just a question for you. 00:53:16.96\00:53:18.83 I gotta make it quick, I know. 00:53:21.36\00:53:23.37 My sister was murdered in the year 2000. 00:53:25.10\00:53:28.47 Her little girl was little, and Friday night, 00:53:29.94\00:53:34.91 and the girl, her daughter was 25, 00:53:34.91\00:53:38.91 and she committed suicide. 00:53:38.91\00:53:41.05 - Mm. 00:53:41.05\00:53:41.95 - [Sherie] And I was just wondering, 00:53:43.02\00:53:44.62 is there still possibilities that she's saved 00:53:47.12\00:53:50.63 even though she's committed suicide? 00:53:50.63\00:53:54.46 - Okay, that's a good question, 00:53:54.46\00:53:56.43 and it's a difficult question. 00:53:56.43\00:53:58.03 You know, the Bible tells us, first of all, 00:53:59.20\00:54:00.77 that God looks on the heart. 00:54:00.77\00:54:02.50 So, we don't know, 00:54:02.50\00:54:03.87 and you gotta be very careful about judging. 00:54:03.87\00:54:06.21 I've done the funeral for a young lady that took her life, 00:54:06.21\00:54:10.71 and she took the pills, and then she regretted it, 00:54:10.71\00:54:12.98 and she called and asked for help. 00:54:12.98\00:54:14.35 And you don't know what's going on in their mind. 00:54:14.35\00:54:17.32 We don't know sometimes the struggles and the heartache, 00:54:17.32\00:54:20.59 and God, He weighs all that. 00:54:20.59\00:54:22.32 And God is good, and God is just. 00:54:22.32\00:54:24.79 That said, if anyone's thinking about suicide, 00:54:24.79\00:54:28.43 the last thing you wanna do 00:54:28.43\00:54:30.10 is have the last act of your life in self-murder 00:54:30.10\00:54:33.97 'cause God says don't kill, 00:54:33.97\00:54:34.94 and that would include yourself. 00:54:34.94\00:54:36.71 So, you certainly don't wanna do that, 00:54:36.71\00:54:38.37 but I would be careful of saying 00:54:38.37\00:54:39.94 that anyone who's committed suicide that there's no hope 00:54:39.94\00:54:43.31 'cause God looks at the tenor of their life, 00:54:43.31\00:54:45.41 and the difficulties that they grappled with. 00:54:45.41\00:54:47.45 And just encourage the family, just know God is good, 00:54:47.45\00:54:50.12 and God is grieving along with everyone else. 00:54:50.12\00:54:52.72 Thank you for your question. 00:54:52.72\00:54:54.09 And for our listening friends, 00:54:54.09\00:54:55.72 we sort of sign off in two stages here. 00:54:55.72\00:54:57.66 We are coming back in just about a minute. 00:54:57.66\00:55:01.40 We're gonna do rapid-fire Bible questions. 00:55:01.40\00:55:03.93 We're signing off with our friends 00:55:03.93\00:55:05.17 listening on satellite radio. 00:55:05.17\00:55:06.84 But if you're listening on any other station, 00:55:06.84\00:55:08.60 just stay tuned. 00:55:08.60\00:55:10.01 We're gonna come back and take your internet Bible questions 00:55:10.01\00:55:12.07 that have come in. 00:55:12.07\00:55:13.17 (lively/ bright music) 00:55:13.17\00:55:16.11 - [Announcer 1] Thank you for listening 00:55:16.11\00:55:17.18 to today's broadcast. 00:55:17.18\00:55:18.71 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:18.71\00:55:22.35 "Bible Answers Live" is produced 00:55:22.35\00:55:24.25 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:24.25\00:55:26.55 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:26.55\00:55:30.76 - Hello, friends, welcome back to "Bible Answers Live." 00:55:32.43\00:55:35.30 And we wanna thank you for your many Bible questions 00:55:35.30\00:55:37.90 that you've posted on social media or emailed 00:55:37.90\00:55:40.24 to Amazing Facts. 00:55:40.24\00:55:41.64 Pastor Doug, we're gonna try and get through 00:55:41.64\00:55:43.07 as many of these questions as we can 00:55:43.07\00:55:44.31 in the next couple of minutes. 00:55:44.31\00:55:46.01 So, here's the first one. 00:55:46.01\00:55:47.98 Is it really possible to keep the 10 commandments? 00:55:47.98\00:55:51.25 - Alright, the answer would be, 00:55:51.25\00:55:52.61 why would God ask us to do something that we can't do? 00:55:52.61\00:55:56.02 Wouldn't He be unjust? 00:55:56.02\00:55:57.92 And if a person is lying, are we gonna say, 00:55:57.92\00:55:59.95 "Well, no one can really tell the truth?" 00:55:59.95\00:56:02.39 Or if a person is stealing? 00:56:02.39\00:56:04.56 Or what wife would accept a husband saying, 00:56:04.56\00:56:07.40 "I can't really keep 00:56:07.40\00:56:08.40 that seventh commandment about adultery. 00:56:08.40\00:56:10.17 Sorry, I know you'll understand"? 00:56:10.17\00:56:11.90 Of course we can, Jesus came to save us not in our sins, 00:56:11.90\00:56:15.34 but from our sins. 00:56:15.34\00:56:16.91 And He said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:56:16.91\00:56:19.37 Yes, you can. 00:56:19.37\00:56:20.84 - Okay, next question that we have, 00:56:20.84\00:56:22.21 "How do we know if we are walking in the Spirit?" 00:56:22.21\00:56:26.05 - Yeah, well, probably the best way 00:56:26.05\00:56:27.82 is you look at the example that it gives us in Galatians 5. 00:56:27.82\00:56:31.22 What are the fruits of the spirit? 00:56:31.22\00:56:32.99 Do we have that love, that joy, that peace, that goodness, 00:56:34.29\00:56:37.03 that long-suffering, that faith, 00:56:37.03\00:56:38.93 that meekness that is described? 00:56:38.93\00:56:41.13 If we're always losing our temper, 00:56:41.13\00:56:43.00 if we're thinking and talking selfish thoughts 00:56:43.00\00:56:44.83 and praying selfish prayers, 00:56:44.83\00:56:46.60 we're probably not being Spirit-led. 00:56:46.60\00:56:49.10 And so, we should be asking every day 00:56:49.10\00:56:51.11 for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 00:56:51.11\00:56:52.74 The Lord wants to give that to us more 00:56:52.74\00:56:55.21 than earthly parents want to give good gifts 00:56:55.21\00:56:57.21 to their children. 00:56:57.21\00:56:58.51 - Okay, another question that we have. 00:56:58.51\00:56:59.81 "When the body dies, where does the spirit go?" 00:56:59.81\00:57:02.85 And the follow-up part is, "What is that spirit?" 00:57:02.85\00:57:05.85 - Alright, well, very quickly, 00:57:05.85\00:57:07.42 if you look in Ecclesiastes 12, 00:57:07.42\00:57:09.79 it says that "The living know they'll die, 00:57:09.79\00:57:11.76 the dead don't know anything, 00:57:11.76\00:57:12.93 but when a person dies," 00:57:12.93\00:57:14.20 it says, "the spirit returns to God who gave it." 00:57:14.20\00:57:17.37 And it's not just a person. 00:57:17.37\00:57:18.70 It says a spirit of a man and beast that returns to God. 00:57:18.70\00:57:21.40 That's because the word spirit there 00:57:21.40\00:57:23.07 is talking about that gift of life, 00:57:23.07\00:57:24.74 that breath of life returns to God. 00:57:24.74\00:57:27.98 So the word "spirit" is often interchangeable 00:57:27.98\00:57:30.58 in the New and Old Testament with the word "breath." 00:57:30.58\00:57:33.88 And God gives all creatures 00:57:33.88\00:57:35.35 the breath of life that returns to God. 00:57:35.35\00:57:37.69 It doesn't mean it's conscious until the Resurrection. 00:57:37.69\00:57:40.96 - Okay, well, here's another one, Pastor Doug. 00:57:40.96\00:57:42.89 "What type of locust did John the Baptist eat?" 00:57:42.89\00:57:46.53 - Well, we hope they were fresh locusts. 00:57:46.53\00:57:48.80 You wouldn't want to eat stale ones. 00:57:48.80\00:57:50.73 You know, locust was an insect that was declared clean 00:57:50.73\00:57:53.90 in Levitical laws, 00:57:53.90\00:57:55.70 but there's also a bean that was called locust, 00:57:55.70\00:57:58.77 and it's similar to the carob pod. 00:57:58.77\00:58:00.81 If you go to Israel, they call it St. John's bread. 00:58:00.81\00:58:03.81 We're hoping that he ate the locust bean and not the bugs, 00:58:03.81\00:58:08.05 but technically, it could have been the grasshoppers. 00:58:08.05\00:58:10.69 Hey, listening friends, running out of time, 00:58:10.69\00:58:12.99 but go to the Amazing Facts website, amazingfacts.org, 00:58:12.99\00:58:16.73 search the resources and tune in next week. 00:58:16.73\00:58:19.49 - [Announcer 1] "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:20.90\00:58:22.76 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions! 00:58:22.76\00:58:26.57 (lively/ bright music) 00:58:27.37\00:58:30.31
