Hello, friends. 00:00:50.21\00:00:51.45 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.45\00:00:54.32 Dragon flies are among the fastest of all insects, 00:00:54.32\00:00:58.15 having been clocked at over 60 miles an hour. 00:00:58.15\00:01:01.29 Fossils tell us that before the flood, 00:01:01.29\00:01:03.69 some dragon flies had a wingspan of nearly three feet. 00:01:03.69\00:01:07.66 Not only are they fast but they're strong too. 00:01:07.66\00:01:11.03 About half of their body mass is devoted to flight muscles 00:01:11.03\00:01:14.24 and they have the ability 00:01:14.24\00:01:15.27 to lift more than twice their body weight, 00:01:15.27\00:01:17.54 a feat that no manmade aircraft has ever come near. 00:01:17.54\00:01:21.08 They can take off backwards, then accelerate at warp speed, 00:01:21.08\00:01:24.61 then stop in an instant. 00:01:24.61\00:01:26.28 They can also execute an unbanked turn as if on a pivot, 00:01:26.28\00:01:29.85 summer salt in the heat of combat 00:01:29.85\00:01:31.69 and fly virtually any maneuver 00:01:31.69\00:01:33.66 using an infinite combination of its four wings. 00:01:33.66\00:01:37.63 Not only can the dragonfly 00:01:37.63\00:01:38.99 outmaneuver anything else on wings, it can see better too. 00:01:38.99\00:01:43.10 It's wraparound compound eyes contain over 30,000 lenses, 00:01:43.10\00:01:47.40 providing a 360 degree field of view. 00:01:47.40\00:01:51.01 In fact, a dragon flag can see a net three feet away, 00:01:51.01\00:01:54.94 dart from its nest, seize and devour the prey, 00:01:54.94\00:01:58.55 and return to its perch all in about one second. 00:01:58.55\00:02:02.62 In addition, 00:02:02.62\00:02:03.95 the success rate when hunting is nearly a 100%, 00:02:03.95\00:02:06.96 where compared to like a (indistinct), Falcon or a lion 00:02:06.96\00:02:09.76 it's 25%. 00:02:09.76\00:02:11.93 The US Air Force has studied the amazing flight versatility 00:02:11.93\00:02:14.96 of dragonflies and wind tunnels, 00:02:14.96\00:02:16.77 hoping to uncover the secret 00:02:16.77\00:02:18.57 of their incredible aerodynamic abilities, 00:02:18.57\00:02:21.80 yet the extraordinary flying ability 00:02:21.80\00:02:24.97 and seeing ability of dragonflies 00:02:24.97\00:02:27.21 doesn't match up with some characters in the Bible, 00:02:27.21\00:02:30.05 Pastor Ross. 00:02:30.05\00:02:30.98 (Pastor Doug laughs) 00:02:30.98\00:02:32.38 - Well, I know where you're going with that Pastor Doug, 00:02:32.38\00:02:33.62 talking about speed. 00:02:33.62\00:02:34.82 I mean, dragonflies are fast 00:02:34.82\00:02:36.35 but in comparison to other created beings 00:02:36.35\00:02:39.79 they don't even come close, 00:02:39.79\00:02:40.86 we're talking about angels. 00:02:40.86\00:02:42.49 Angels, the Bible says, also has wings. 00:02:42.49\00:02:44.53 We have a description of angels with wings in the Bible, 00:02:44.53\00:02:47.40 but these amazing creations, these amazing beings, 00:02:47.40\00:02:52.13 the Bible calls them ministering spirits, 00:02:52.13\00:02:54.57 can travel faster than the speed of light. 00:02:54.57\00:02:56.91 So, we're thinking probably the speed of thought, 00:02:56.91\00:02:59.41 you'd think. 00:02:59.41\00:03:00.78 - There's something between the speed of light 00:03:00.78\00:03:03.38 and how fast angels go, 00:03:03.38\00:03:04.91 we don't know what that measurement is 00:03:04.91\00:03:06.55 but there's an example in the Bible, I believe, 00:03:06.55\00:03:08.95 in the Book of Daniel. 00:03:08.95\00:03:10.29 - Yeah, there's an interesting passage 00:03:10.29\00:03:11.09 you find in Daniel chapter nine, 00:03:11.09\00:03:13.96 a little bit of the background here. 00:03:13.96\00:03:15.56 You have the prophet Daniel who's praying for understanding, 00:03:15.56\00:03:19.19 and in response to his prayer the angel Gabriel 00:03:19.19\00:03:22.56 is sent to answer Daniel's prayer. 00:03:22.56\00:03:25.13 And we actually find the verse here in Daniel chapter nine, 00:03:25.13\00:03:27.70 and starting in verse 21 it says, 00:03:27.70\00:03:29.47 "Yes, while I was speaking in prayer," 00:03:29.47\00:03:31.41 this is Daniel the prophet, 00:03:31.41\00:03:32.61 "... the man Gabriel, 00:03:32.61\00:03:34.11 whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, 00:03:34.11\00:03:35.91 being caused to fly swiftly, 00:03:35.91\00:03:37.68 reached me about the time of the evening offering." 00:03:37.68\00:03:40.72 So, Pastor Doug, here we have here Daniel, I should say, 00:03:40.72\00:03:44.39 the prophet praying for understanding. 00:03:44.39\00:03:46.72 And then the angel Gabriel gets the commission, 00:03:46.72\00:03:49.89 go answer Daniel's request, 00:03:49.89\00:03:52.89 we find in verse 23 of the same chapter, it says, 00:03:52.89\00:03:56.20 now Gabriel is speaking and he says, 00:03:56.20\00:03:58.03 "At the beginning of your supplication," 00:03:58.03\00:04:00.07 that's the beginning of his prayer, 00:04:00.07\00:04:01.24 "... the commandment went out, 00:04:01.24\00:04:02.87 and I've come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; 00:04:02.87\00:04:05.64 therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision." 00:04:05.64\00:04:08.24 So, you look back a little further in the chapter 00:04:08.24\00:04:10.85 you probably got 10 minutes of talking, or maybe even less, 00:04:10.85\00:04:15.12 where Daniel is praying, 00:04:15.12\00:04:16.42 he begins his prayer confessing his sins. 00:04:16.42\00:04:18.82 From that point to where Gabriel suddenly appears 00:04:18.82\00:04:22.62 in front of Daniel, he flies from heaven to earth 00:04:22.62\00:04:25.39 in a very short period of time. 00:04:25.39\00:04:27.03 - Yeah, it's just fractions of seconds, or minutes, 00:04:27.03\00:04:31.33 going all that distance, 00:04:31.33\00:04:32.67 which is encouraging to know when you're in trouble 00:04:32.67\00:04:34.37 and you pray, it doesn't take very long 00:04:34.37\00:04:37.11 for the paramedic to get to you, the heavenly paramedic, 00:04:37.11\00:04:41.04 and, what do they call it, the 911 response time. 00:04:41.04\00:04:44.08 It's pretty quick for heaven. 00:04:44.08\00:04:46.28 Well, Pastor Ross, 00:04:46.28\00:04:47.35 it's good to be here for the program tonight. 00:04:47.35\00:04:48.95 Wanna welcome you friends, 00:04:48.95\00:04:50.25 if you've got Bible questions we're gonna launch off, 00:04:50.25\00:04:52.12 that's what this program's all about. 00:04:52.12\00:04:54.22 And you can either watch on 3ABN or, I'm sorry, 00:04:54.22\00:04:59.16 not three 3ABN yet, we're going on there soon; 00:04:59.16\00:05:01.13 we're gonna be on AFTV, Good News Network and Facebook, 00:05:01.13\00:05:06.20 Amazing Facts, and... 00:05:07.37\00:05:09.34 Let's see, Amazing Facts Facebook page, 00:05:09.34\00:05:10.84 Doug Batchelor Facebook page, 00:05:10.84\00:05:12.94 and we invite you to call in with your questions. 00:05:12.94\00:05:14.88 If you have a question, number is (800) 463-7297. 00:05:14.88\00:05:19.78 - Amen. 00:06:42.63\00:06:43.77 - All right, ready to go to the phone lines. 00:06:43.77\00:06:44.80 We've got April listening in Florida. 00:06:44.80\00:06:46.43 April, welcome to the program. 00:06:46.43\00:06:48.00 - [April] Hi, good evening, pastor Doug. 00:06:49.07\00:06:50.64 Good evening, pastor Jëan, 00:06:50.64\00:06:51.74 it's good to hear you guys again. 00:06:51.74\00:06:53.91 - Thank you for calling. 00:06:53.91\00:06:55.18 - [April] Thank you for accepting my call. 00:06:56.28\00:06:57.88 So, my question is, 00:06:57.88\00:06:59.21 in the Book of John 00:06:59.21\00:07:00.92 Jesus mentioned nobody has seen the face of God, 00:07:00.92\00:07:05.19 or I think He said nobody's seen the face of God. 00:07:05.19\00:07:09.36 But I believe Abraham, Moses and Elijah are in heaven. 00:07:09.36\00:07:14.40 Also, when Jesus was on the mountain, 00:07:15.46\00:07:18.13 and I'm sorry I don't have my Bible with me. 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.40 When Jesus was on the mountain, 00:07:20.40\00:07:21.70 I believe with Abraham and Elijah, 00:07:21.70\00:07:24.21 James, Peter and John, I believe, saw Him. 00:07:24.21\00:07:27.48 So, why would Jesus say, I think to the Pharisees, 00:07:27.48\00:07:31.18 nobody has seen the face of God except for the Son of Man? 00:07:31.18\00:07:34.48 - Yeah, I think that the key there is Jesus actually says, 00:07:34.48\00:07:37.35 "No man have seen the Father." 00:07:37.35\00:07:40.19 And so people have seen Jesus, the Son. 00:07:40.19\00:07:42.82 Now, for an example, if you go to Exodus chapter 33, 00:07:42.82\00:07:47.30 Moses says, "Lord, show me Your glory." 00:07:47.30\00:07:49.96 And He said, "No man can see My glory." 00:07:49.96\00:07:53.03 Matter of fact, let me see, if you look in verse 20, 00:07:53.03\00:07:56.17 He said, "You cannot see My face, 00:07:56.17\00:07:58.31 no man can see My face and live." 00:07:58.31\00:08:02.31 And so, to see the face of God in his undiminished glory 00:08:02.31\00:08:07.25 would just be too much. 00:08:08.12\00:08:09.48 Now, that's because we're in our sinful condition, 00:08:09.48\00:08:12.22 so once Moses and Elijah are in heaven 00:08:12.22\00:08:15.12 and they've got their glorified bodies, 00:08:15.12\00:08:16.99 they can endure the presence of God. 00:08:16.99\00:08:18.69 Indeed, Adam and Eve used to walk with God in the garden, 00:08:18.69\00:08:21.06 so they could see God. 00:08:21.06\00:08:22.83 And they were probably spending time with God, the Son, 00:08:22.83\00:08:26.30 in those encounters, 00:08:26.30\00:08:28.80 But God, the Father in particular, 00:08:28.80\00:08:30.97 in His undiminished glory, humans, 00:08:30.97\00:08:33.44 especially in our lost condition, 00:08:33.44\00:08:34.78 we could not bear the sight it would consume us, 00:08:34.78\00:08:37.35 be like a laser. 00:08:37.35\00:08:38.91 So, there's a distinction there 00:08:38.91\00:08:41.02 and often when people have seen God, 00:08:41.02\00:08:43.39 He's veiled His divinity in the form of a man or something, 00:08:44.72\00:08:49.26 and would appear to people like Abraham and Jacob 00:08:50.59\00:08:54.93 and Manoah, or Manoah and his wife. 00:08:55.96\00:08:59.50 - So, would that be Christ 00:08:59.50\00:09:00.90 that appeared in the old Testament to Abraham and... 00:09:00.90\00:09:03.74 - Yeah, those are called Christophanies, 00:09:03.74\00:09:05.84 they're the pre-incarnation appearances of Jesus. 00:09:05.84\00:09:09.21 Jesus appeared several times, 00:09:09.21\00:09:10.95 that's why Jesus said to the Jewish leaders, 00:09:10.95\00:09:13.15 "Abraham longed to see My day and he saw it." 00:09:13.15\00:09:15.62 Jesus appeared to Abraham 00:09:15.62\00:09:17.69 and, of course, Abraham saw Christ in the sacrifice 00:09:17.69\00:09:21.42 of when he offered Isaac. 00:09:21.42\00:09:23.89 He saw Him prefigured there. 00:09:23.89\00:09:26.03 So, hope that makes sense, April, that it is still true, 00:09:26.03\00:09:29.43 no man can see the face of God the Father, 00:09:29.43\00:09:31.83 but clearly people have seen God the Son. 00:09:31.83\00:09:34.70 - All right, next caller that we have 00:09:34.70\00:09:35.84 is Palmer listening from, is that Iowa? 00:09:35.84\00:09:38.91 Palmer, welcome to the program. 00:09:38.91\00:09:40.51 - [Palmer] Oh, I'm glad to be here. 00:09:41.61\00:09:43.61 I'm glad you guys were willing to take this question. 00:09:43.61\00:09:46.78 - Sure. 00:09:46.78\00:09:47.68 - [Palmer] The question is, 00:09:49.28\00:09:50.69 in Daniel chapter two the stone that turns into a mountain 00:09:52.92\00:09:56.83 and fills the whole earth, 00:09:56.83\00:09:58.59 is that a literal kingdom after the millennium? 00:09:58.59\00:10:01.53 - Well, let's use some biblical hermeneutics here. 00:10:02.83\00:10:06.40 When we look at Daniel two, 00:10:06.40\00:10:08.00 and you see in the image their head is of gold 00:10:08.00\00:10:11.17 and the arms of silver, and the belly is bronze, 00:10:11.17\00:10:14.51 and the legs of iron, and the feet are iron in clay. 00:10:14.51\00:10:17.71 Do those other metals represent real kingdoms, Palmer? 00:10:17.71\00:10:22.78 And, obviously, Babylon really represented 00:10:23.82\00:10:26.05 a literal kingdom of Babylon, the head of gold. 00:10:26.05\00:10:28.52 And the silver was a literal kingdom of Persia, 00:10:28.52\00:10:30.83 so when you get down to the stone, to be consistent, 00:10:30.83\00:10:33.70 it must be a literal kingdom of Jesus, 00:10:33.70\00:10:36.67 And not only did Christ 00:10:36.67\00:10:38.47 begin preaching the spiritual kingdom 00:10:38.47\00:10:40.04 when he came 2000 years ago, 00:10:40.04\00:10:42.04 we're looking forward to a literal kingdom. 00:10:42.04\00:10:45.17 The spiritual kingdom has always been available, 00:10:45.17\00:10:47.04 it's within you, but the literal kingdom is still future 00:10:47.04\00:10:50.75 'cause the devil is contesting this world, 00:10:50.75\00:10:55.72 but Jesus is going to create a new heavens and new earth, 00:10:55.72\00:10:58.82 and says the knowledge of God will fill the world. 00:10:58.82\00:11:01.72 That's when that new kingdom is established on earth. 00:11:01.72\00:11:04.63 - You know, pastor Doug, there's an interesting verse 00:11:04.63\00:11:06.16 that I like in Matthew 21 verse 44. 00:11:06.16\00:11:08.63 And, Palmer, maybe you've never seen this verse before. 00:11:08.63\00:11:10.90 It's actually Jesus, and He says, 00:11:10.90\00:11:12.93 "Whoever falls upon this stone shall be broken; 00:11:12.93\00:11:16.30 but on whomever it falls, it'll grind him to powder." 00:11:16.30\00:11:20.44 It's kind of interesting, 00:11:20.44\00:11:21.54 Christ here is referring to Daniel chapter two 00:11:21.54\00:11:24.01 because the stone that comes 00:11:24.01\00:11:25.08 and strikes the image upon its feet, 00:11:25.08\00:11:26.92 it says it grinds all of these various metals to powder 00:11:26.92\00:11:30.29 and the wind blows it away; 00:11:30.29\00:11:31.65 and then the stone grows and becomes a great mountain. 00:11:31.65\00:11:33.76 So, to fall upon the stone, the stone being Christ, 00:11:33.76\00:11:36.42 our hearts are broken. 00:11:36.42\00:11:37.79 But there is a warning, 00:11:37.79\00:11:39.03 if we don't take advantage of the salvation 00:11:39.03\00:11:41.03 that Jesus wants to give us, 00:11:41.03\00:11:42.63 when the second coming occurs 00:11:42.63\00:11:44.40 we're gonna be turning to the rocks and the mountains 00:11:44.40\00:11:46.20 as they fall on us and hide us 00:11:46.20\00:11:47.64 from the face of Him who sits upon the throne. 00:11:47.64\00:11:49.70 So, yes, it's a very literal kingdom that'll be established. 00:11:49.70\00:11:53.64 Now, there's phases of that kingdom, 00:11:53.64\00:11:55.14 you have the second coming of Christ 00:11:55.14\00:11:56.61 where the righteous are taken to him for 1,000 years, 00:11:56.61\00:11:58.61 the wicked are destroyed. 00:11:58.61\00:11:59.88 But then at the end of the 1,000 years 00:11:59.88\00:12:01.42 you have the great white throne judgment 00:12:01.42\00:12:03.49 and the wicked are destroyed, 00:12:03.49\00:12:04.62 and then the earth is recreated, 00:12:04.62\00:12:06.59 the new heavens the new earth. 00:12:06.59\00:12:07.99 - Yes. 00:12:07.99\00:12:09.32 - All right, well, thanks for your call, Palmer. 00:12:09.32\00:12:10.39 We got Michael, also from Michigan. 00:12:10.39\00:12:12.96 Michael, welcome to the program. 00:12:12.96\00:12:15.06 - [Michael] Yes, hello Pastor Doug, Pastor Ross. 00:12:15.06\00:12:17.43 Thanks for taking my question. 00:12:17.43\00:12:19.30 - Yeah. 00:12:19.30\00:12:20.10 - [Michael] My question is, 00:12:20.10\00:12:21.60 if Daniel nine, 24 through 27 is a repeat 00:12:21.60\00:12:26.68 and enlargement of the kingdom of grace, 00:12:28.71\00:12:31.51 where can we find that in Daniel two? 00:12:31.51\00:12:33.72 - You say Daniel nine, 00:12:35.85\00:12:37.15 well it's talking about 00:12:37.15\00:12:38.25 Daniel nine chapter 24 through 27 is, 00:12:38.25\00:12:41.49 really, that's the prophecy of Christ's first coming 00:12:41.49\00:12:46.56 from the time that He would be 00:12:47.46\00:12:48.90 anointed with the Holy Spirit at His baptism. 00:12:48.90\00:12:51.63 That's at the end of the 483 days or years, 00:12:51.63\00:12:55.17 to His crucifixion in the midst of that final week 00:12:56.64\00:12:58.71 when He causes a sacrifice cease, 00:12:58.71\00:13:01.34 and so that's the kingdom of grace. 00:13:01.34\00:13:04.01 When you're in Daniel chapter two 00:13:04.01\00:13:05.81 it's talking about God's a literal kingdom, 00:13:05.81\00:13:07.52 so they're covering different time periods 00:13:07.52\00:13:11.42 so I'm not sure... 00:13:11.42\00:13:12.62 Did we say something about 00:13:13.52\00:13:14.86 the kingdom of grace and Daniel two that you're looking for? 00:13:14.86\00:13:17.59 - [Michael] Well, if Daniel nine, 24 through 27 00:13:18.89\00:13:23.13 is a repeat and enlargement of the kingdom of grace, 00:13:23.13\00:13:28.20 I'm wondering where it is in Daniel two. 00:13:29.34\00:13:30.61 - Well, when Jesus comes it's... 00:13:32.74\00:13:37.81 Let me say this differently. 00:13:38.61\00:13:39.98 The kingdom of grace actually is available from creation. 00:13:39.98\00:13:44.05 That lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world, 00:13:45.42\00:13:47.46 everybody saved Old Testament, New Testament, 00:13:47.46\00:13:49.72 is saved by grace. 00:13:49.72\00:13:50.89 So, all through Daniel two, 00:13:51.69\00:13:54.60 God's people are always spared through grace, 00:13:54.60\00:13:58.07 nobody is saved by law. 00:13:58.07\00:14:00.24 - Well, I think you do find an interesting feature 00:14:00.24\00:14:02.57 when you look at Daniel chapter two 00:14:02.57\00:14:03.81 and Daniel chapter seven, 00:14:03.81\00:14:05.07 and you get Daniel chapter eight 00:14:05.07\00:14:06.74 and then Daniel chapter nine. 00:14:06.74\00:14:08.58 It does cover much of the same time period, 00:14:08.58\00:14:11.35 but each of the various visions 00:14:11.35\00:14:13.42 amplify and give additional details. 00:14:13.42\00:14:15.88 So, Daniel chapter two is focused primarily on powers, 00:14:15.88\00:14:19.75 political powers, and ultimately the kingdom of God 00:14:19.75\00:14:22.46 being established on earth. 00:14:22.46\00:14:24.06 And then you're finding Daniel nine, 00:14:24.06\00:14:25.73 the emphasis there is on the spiritual kingdom, 00:14:25.73\00:14:29.00 the establishment of that kingdom 00:14:29.00\00:14:30.47 that Jesus preach when He came and He said, 00:14:30.47\00:14:31.77 "The kingdom of heaven is at hand," 00:14:31.77\00:14:33.50 that's the kingdom of grace. 00:14:33.50\00:14:34.87 So, Daniel is addressing both the kingdom of glory, 00:14:34.87\00:14:38.31 as well as the kingdom of grace 00:14:38.31\00:14:40.31 in the various visions in Daniel two, Daniel seven. 00:14:40.31\00:14:42.94 You also have the judgment 00:14:42.94\00:14:44.05 that's referred to in Daniel seven, 00:14:44.05\00:14:45.95 and you also find that referred to in Daniel eight 00:14:45.95\00:14:47.98 so there's a number of parallels between these visions. 00:14:47.98\00:14:50.85 - Yeah. 00:14:50.85\00:14:51.95 So, hope that helps a little bit, Michael, 00:14:51.95\00:14:53.79 and we appreciate that you can see the grace 00:14:53.79\00:14:55.89 all the way through all the prophecies. 00:14:55.89\00:14:58.86 But, yeah, they continue to expand 00:14:58.86\00:15:00.96 not only in Daniel, in Revelation, they continue to 00:15:00.96\00:15:04.77 enlarge. All right, I think we're ready for Marcus and-- 00:15:04.77\00:15:06.84 - Marcus, welcome. 00:15:06.84\00:15:07.80 Listening from Tennessee. 00:15:07.80\00:15:10.17 Marcus, welcome to the program. 00:15:10.17\00:15:11.81 - [Marcus] Oh, hi. 00:15:12.94\00:15:13.91 My question is, what is the image to the beast? 00:15:15.18\00:15:17.71 - All right, very good. 00:15:18.88\00:15:20.48 When you read in revelation chapter 13, 00:15:20.48\00:15:22.72 it talks about that there's two beasts in revelation 13, 00:15:22.72\00:15:26.55 you got this first beast and it comes up out of the sea. 00:15:26.55\00:15:30.56 And then you get the second beast 00:15:30.56\00:15:31.79 that comes up out of the land, 00:15:31.79\00:15:33.83 and he encourages the world 00:15:33.83\00:15:35.43 to make an image to the first beast 00:15:35.43\00:15:36.93 who had a wound by the sword, a deadly wound, 00:15:36.93\00:15:39.03 but yet he's revived, he still lived. 00:15:39.03\00:15:42.80 And the first beast was the persecuting power 00:15:42.80\00:15:47.54 of the dark ages from like 538 to about 1798, 00:15:47.54\00:15:51.15 that was 1,260 years when the people power 00:15:51.15\00:15:56.22 was persecuting, 00:15:56.75\00:15:58.35 like 50 million Christians died during that time, and Jews, 00:15:58.35\00:16:03.43 and you get the Human knots and the Walden season, 00:16:04.73\00:16:05.96 and many others. 00:16:05.96\00:16:07.23 And this is not something original with our radio program, 00:16:07.23\00:16:10.87 this is what the Protestants taught, 00:16:10.87\00:16:12.47 like Luther, Wesley, Spurgeon. 00:16:12.47\00:16:15.94 I mean, you can go down the line, 00:16:15.94\00:16:17.31 all the puritans and the Protestants believe that. 00:16:17.31\00:16:19.94 So, that would be the first beast, 00:16:19.94\00:16:21.31 but then you get this other beast 00:16:21.31\00:16:23.28 which we believe is the United States, 00:16:23.28\00:16:26.58 which it's kind of been the beach head for Protestants, 00:16:26.58\00:16:30.52 but there's gonna be apostacy, 00:16:30.52\00:16:32.09 which we already see in the church. 00:16:32.09\00:16:33.99 And they're gonna encourage the world to make an image, 00:16:33.99\00:16:37.39 that means a likeness, 00:16:37.39\00:16:38.76 they're gonna recreate a religious political system 00:16:38.76\00:16:42.80 that is very similar and that is gonna be, 00:16:42.80\00:16:45.73 once again, a persecuting power 00:16:45.73\00:16:47.34 if you do not worship the way you're told. 00:16:47.34\00:16:49.44 It's what it says, 00:16:49.44\00:16:50.57 if you do not worship the image of the beast 00:16:50.57\00:16:51.94 you can't buy or sell and you'll ultimately be killed. 00:16:51.94\00:16:54.78 And I don't think those days are very far away. 00:16:54.78\00:16:58.98 I always think it's interesting, 00:16:58.98\00:17:00.08 if you look at a picture of the Vatican 00:17:00.08\00:17:02.75 and then you look at a picture of the capital building, 00:17:02.75\00:17:05.79 they look like they're copied after each other. 00:17:05.79\00:17:08.26 And you look in front of the Vatican 00:17:08.26\00:17:09.99 a great obelisk is there., 00:17:09.99\00:17:12.33 and in front of the capital 00:17:12.33\00:17:13.36 you've got the Washington Monument. 00:17:13.36\00:17:15.96 And so, it's kinda interesting, 00:17:15.96\00:17:18.50 they're both kinda based on this Greco-Roman architecture. 00:17:18.50\00:17:21.57 But that's not the image, it's not the architecture 00:17:21.57\00:17:23.61 it's the power, the government 00:17:23.61\00:17:25.64 that it's gonna be a persecuting power. 00:17:25.64\00:17:27.74 - Yeah, I think, Pastor Doug, 00:17:27.74\00:17:29.08 you mentioned it a little earlier, 00:17:29.08\00:17:30.18 during the dark ages you had a religious power, 00:17:30.18\00:17:32.61 the church that was using the state, 00:17:32.61\00:17:35.22 the political power, to enforce worship 00:17:35.22\00:17:37.49 or a certain type of worship. 00:17:37.49\00:17:39.25 So, an image to the beast 00:17:39.25\00:17:40.59 would be when religious powers in the United States 00:17:40.59\00:17:44.63 put emphasis or motivate, coerce, the government 00:17:44.63\00:17:49.66 to start forcing a certain type of worship or religion. 00:17:51.43\00:17:55.54 That would be an image to the first beast. 00:17:55.54\00:17:57.97 - Yeah, it's like a facsimile 00:17:57.97\00:17:59.11 is making an image of something. 00:17:59.11\00:18:01.71 And the second beast encourages the world, 00:18:01.71\00:18:03.91 it's like a facsimile of the first beast. 00:18:03.91\00:18:06.21 - Right, right. 00:18:06.21\00:18:07.02 - We think image, we think idol, 00:18:07.02\00:18:08.12 it's not like the world world's gonna be told 00:18:08.12\00:18:10.02 to worship a big Buddha, 00:18:10.02\00:18:11.75 it's talking about it'll be a similar system. 00:18:11.75\00:18:14.19 - And then it's not only the United States, 00:18:14.19\00:18:15.72 but with the support of the United States 00:18:15.72\00:18:17.59 it spreads around the world. 00:18:17.59\00:18:18.59 - Right, it's global. 00:18:18.59\00:18:19.69 - We have a study guide, it's called, 00:18:19.69\00:18:21.06 "The United States in Bible Prophecy," 00:18:21.06\00:18:23.26 just the US in Bible prophecy, 00:18:23.26\00:18:25.17 and we'll be happy to send this to anyone 00:18:25.17\00:18:26.60 who wants to learn more about this, 00:18:26.60\00:18:28.34 this is such an important and fascinating study. 00:18:28.34\00:18:31.27 If you'd like to receive that, 00:18:31.27\00:18:32.41 the number to call is (800) 835-6747. 00:18:32.41\00:18:35.61 You can ask for the study guide, 00:18:35.61\00:18:36.71 it's called, "The USA in Bible Prophecy." 00:18:36.71\00:18:39.41 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:18:39.41\00:18:42.22 We've got Fred listening from Connecticut. 00:18:42.22\00:18:44.62 Fred, welcome to the program. 00:18:44.62\00:18:46.12 - [Fred] Yes, 00:18:47.19\00:18:48.09 should a Christian be playing the stock market? 00:18:49.42\00:18:53.63 - All right, good question. 00:18:54.56\00:18:56.00 Well, when you say playing the stock market, 00:18:57.27\00:18:58.60 I think a Christian ought to avoid anything 00:18:58.60\00:19:00.70 that borders on gambling. 00:19:00.70\00:19:04.14 Now, investing in the stock market, 00:19:04.14\00:19:06.31 nothing wrong with that, morally, 00:19:06.31\00:19:08.94 because if you put your money in the bank, 00:19:08.94\00:19:11.45 what banks do is they invest in the market. 00:19:11.45\00:19:13.65 Banks just don't just sit on the money, 00:19:13.65\00:19:14.98 they lend it out and they try and gain interest. 00:19:14.98\00:19:17.92 And when you invest in the stock market 00:19:17.92\00:19:21.39 you're basically buying part ownership of companies. 00:19:21.39\00:19:25.26 Now, as a Christian, 00:19:25.26\00:19:26.59 I would not recommend you buy part ownership of 00:19:26.59\00:19:29.43 R.J. R Reynolds, what is it, tobacco. 00:19:29.43\00:19:33.30 You might not wanna buy part ownership in Anheuser-Busch, 00:19:33.30\00:19:37.41 which makes Budweiser. 00:19:37.41\00:19:38.81 Those are not things that Christians should support, 00:19:38.81\00:19:42.41 but there are legitimate companies, 00:19:42.41\00:19:44.91 maybe are a construction company or whatever. 00:19:44.91\00:19:48.02 And they're doing well and you'd like to invest in it, 00:19:48.02\00:19:50.39 there's nothing wrong with that. 00:19:50.39\00:19:51.75 When people start doing a lot of day trading, 00:19:51.75\00:19:54.12 it's almost like they're doing speculation 00:19:54.12\00:19:56.09 and that can kind of border on gambling, 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.96 can be very dangerous, 00:19:57.96\00:19:59.83 but there's nothing morally wrong 00:19:59.83\00:20:02.00 with investing money in the stock market. 00:20:02.00\00:20:04.60 - And I think there are companies that specialize 00:20:04.60\00:20:06.60 in certain companies that have a good reputation, 00:20:06.60\00:20:10.41 that are not involved in tobacco, alcohol 00:20:10.41\00:20:13.71 or certain forms of entertainment; 00:20:13.71\00:20:15.58 and a Christian can work with those different 00:20:15.58\00:20:19.75 investment companies and know that your funds 00:20:19.75\00:20:21.72 are going to a good cause. 00:20:21.72\00:20:23.12 - Yeah, and when you buy a mutual fund, 00:20:23.12\00:20:25.09 a mutual fund is a company 00:20:25.09\00:20:26.52 that has a bouquet of stocks they've bought 00:20:26.52\00:20:29.59 that are either conservative or they're aggressive, 00:20:29.59\00:20:31.66 or they're overseas, or whatever. 00:20:31.66\00:20:34.10 And Jesus said in that parable of the 10 talents, 00:20:34.10\00:20:38.77 He condemns the lazy servant who hides his money, 00:20:38.77\00:20:42.60 he buries it, 00:20:42.60\00:20:44.07 says, "You could have at least given it to the bankers 00:20:44.07\00:20:45.34 that I'd get interest." 00:20:45.34\00:20:47.01 And so, typically, over time the stock market increases. 00:20:47.01\00:20:50.31 There's an occasional crash but it usually goes up. 00:20:50.31\00:20:55.08 - All right, thank you for your call, Fred. 00:20:55.08\00:20:56.42 We've got Anthony listening in New York. 00:20:56.42\00:20:58.25 Anthony, welcome to the program. 00:20:58.25\00:20:59.82 - [Anthony] Hello, good evening, pastors. 00:21:01.16\00:21:04.06 I have a pretty serious question. 00:21:04.06\00:21:06.29 I want to know, how do we know if someone is struggling 00:21:07.83\00:21:12.87 with demon possession, demonic possession 00:21:13.94\00:21:16.81 and, if so, what do we do or what can we do to help, 00:21:16.81\00:21:21.88 if anything? 00:21:22.51\00:21:23.68 - Well, let's assume that you know it's demonic depression, 00:21:25.08\00:21:27.62 and we'll answer the second part of the question first, 00:21:27.62\00:21:29.58 what can you do to help. 00:21:29.58\00:21:31.29 In the Bible there's no question that Jesus said 00:21:31.29\00:21:34.69 that you will have power, 00:21:34.69\00:21:36.22 you can pray and you can cast out devils. 00:21:36.22\00:21:39.36 And the disciples came to Jesus once and said, 00:21:39.36\00:21:43.20 "We tried to cast this devil out of this man's son 00:21:43.20\00:21:45.97 and we couldn't." 00:21:45.97\00:21:47.24 And He said, "Well, this kind only comes forth 00:21:47.24\00:21:48.24 by prayer and fasting." 00:21:48.24\00:21:50.17 So, through prayer, sometimes if it's specially serious, 00:21:50.17\00:21:53.21 you'd pray and fast. 00:21:53.21\00:21:55.24 In the Bible, sometimes, it's claiming the name of Jesus. 00:21:55.24\00:21:59.68 Paul did it that way 00:21:59.68\00:22:01.02 when the girl was following him in Philippi. 00:22:01.02\00:22:03.08 Sometimes they laid hands on somebody or touched them. 00:22:03.08\00:22:06.45 So, Christians should pray for others 00:22:06.45\00:22:08.99 if they're grappling with demonic possession. 00:22:08.99\00:22:12.23 I've done a lot of work overseas and it's more prevalent, 00:22:12.23\00:22:15.76 Pastor Ross was born in Africa, 00:22:15.76\00:22:17.73 it's more prevalent in some of these countries 00:22:17.73\00:22:20.37 where there's a lot of spiritualism. 00:22:20.37\00:22:22.94 And I've had people just go berserk during my meeting, 00:22:22.94\00:22:26.81 the pastors grabbed the person, man or woman, 00:22:26.81\00:22:29.08 and they prayed over them, 00:22:29.08\00:22:30.68 and you'd see their sanity return. 00:22:30.68\00:22:33.28 So, there's that. 00:22:33.28\00:22:34.42 Now, how do you know if it's demonic possession? 00:22:34.42\00:22:37.62 Well, that's a more difficult question. 00:22:37.62\00:22:40.26 There are some people, 00:22:40.26\00:22:41.32 they've just got a plain old medical problem 00:22:41.32\00:22:43.22 that's affecting their behavior, 00:22:43.22\00:22:45.53 and a doctor can sometimes help you identify 00:22:45.53\00:22:50.30 something like that. 00:22:50.30\00:22:51.27 There's a thin line sometimes between 00:22:52.50\00:22:54.57 what may be purely demonic and spiritual 00:22:54.57\00:22:57.57 and what might be physiological, 00:22:57.57\00:23:00.68 and I think the devil can even combine the two. 00:23:00.68\00:23:03.78 Meaning, a person might have a propensity 00:23:03.78\00:23:07.58 to behave erratically, 00:23:07.58\00:23:09.32 and the devil will take advantage 00:23:09.32\00:23:10.72 of the chemical or biological problem; 00:23:10.72\00:23:13.89 and with a spiritual push pushes 'em over the edge. 00:23:13.89\00:23:18.83 So, that is difficult and sometimes it's hard to tell. 00:23:18.83\00:23:22.80 I've noticed that some people 00:23:22.80\00:23:23.87 that when it's satanic or it's spiritual, 00:23:23.87\00:23:28.20 it's like they become preoccupied with spiritual 00:23:28.20\00:23:31.47 things. Even the devils, the demons, possessed devils, 00:23:32.77\00:23:36.58 they call Jesus out, "We know who You are. 00:23:36.58\00:23:38.71 Jesus, Son of the most high God." 00:23:38.71\00:23:40.72 They became obsessed with spiritual things. 00:23:40.72\00:23:43.12 - And, of course, I think the devil is very good 00:23:44.45\00:23:45.55 in masquerading his influence over people. 00:23:45.55\00:23:49.29 In Western societies it might not be that prevalent 00:23:49.29\00:23:52.16 because people aren't worshiping the spirits 00:23:52.16\00:23:54.76 as you might find it in some other places, 00:23:54.76\00:23:56.43 but the devil's hold over the hearts and the minds of people 00:23:56.43\00:23:59.90 in Western countries are just as strong, if not stronger, 00:23:59.90\00:24:03.07 than some of these other places. 00:24:03.07\00:24:04.31 - Materialism and (indistinct). 00:24:04.31\00:24:06.01 - Yeah, absolutely. 00:24:06.01\00:24:07.61 - I have a book that I wrote, Anthony, 00:24:07.61\00:24:09.81 and it's called "Broken Chains". 00:24:09.81\00:24:11.95 And it talks about when Jesus cast a devil, 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.55 or a legion of devils out of a man 00:24:14.55\00:24:16.28 that was desperately possessed. 00:24:16.28\00:24:18.09 Now, that's not among the free books 00:24:18.09\00:24:19.92 it's a little bigger book, 00:24:19.92\00:24:21.49 but you can get that 00:24:21.49\00:24:23.73 by just going to the Amazing Facts website, 00:24:23.73\00:24:26.06 it's called "Broken Chains". 00:24:26.06\00:24:28.03 - All right, thanks for your call. 00:24:28.03\00:24:29.13 We've got Eric, and he's listening in Indiana. 00:24:29.13\00:24:31.47 Eric, welcome to the program. 00:24:31.47\00:24:33.00 - [Eric] Hello. 00:24:33.87\00:24:34.94 There's a strong pattern in the Old Testament 00:24:34.94\00:24:36.94 of all the Kings being judged in their lives, 00:24:36.94\00:24:40.01 according to doing what is right in the sight of the Lord 00:24:40.01\00:24:42.54 or what is evil in the sight of the Lord, 00:24:42.54\00:24:44.81 and certain terms such as high places or groves, 00:24:44.81\00:24:48.18 or sacred poles or ashram poles are used. 00:24:48.18\00:24:51.12 And when we compare Revelation, the symbols of Jezebel 00:24:51.12\00:24:54.52 being defined as one who teaches a sexual morality 00:24:54.52\00:24:57.63 or Babylon spreading it throughout the whole world, 00:24:57.63\00:25:00.60 or the name written on the forehead of the woman 00:25:00.60\00:25:02.63 being prostitute, 00:25:02.63\00:25:03.93 how strong of a case can we make 00:25:03.93\00:25:05.50 that God was referring to prostitution 00:25:05.50\00:25:07.40 in these King's judgements, 00:25:07.40\00:25:08.90 and how seriously does God take prostitution 00:25:08.90\00:25:11.97 and judge societies by the level in it? 00:25:11.97\00:25:14.01 - Well, prostitution, they call it the oldest profession, 00:25:15.34\00:25:17.41 is very clearly condemned in the Bible. 00:25:17.41\00:25:20.82 And it is also true that in many of the ancient religions, 00:25:20.82\00:25:25.89 in these cult religions, 00:25:26.55\00:25:27.89 even in just the last 70 years they still had it in India 00:25:29.22\00:25:32.96 where some of the Hindu temples 00:25:32.96\00:25:34.03 had what they call temple virgins, 00:25:34.03\00:25:36.63 but they didn't say that way long. 00:25:36.63\00:25:38.63 And it was a terrible way of abusing young girls, 00:25:38.63\00:25:41.17 but a lot of the ancient idolatry 00:25:42.30\00:25:46.04 involved sexual promiscuity, 00:25:46.04\00:25:49.18 and they called about sacrifices on the high places 00:25:50.45\00:25:53.25 to the ashram, 00:25:53.25\00:25:54.78 not so much with bail worship as with some of the others 00:25:56.75\00:26:00.09 but God typically calls idolatry harlotry in the Bible. 00:26:00.09\00:26:05.09 And because Babylon is, 00:26:06.53\00:26:09.46 there's so much idolatry in revelation 17 that that woman, 00:26:09.46\00:26:14.07 she's called the harlot. 00:26:14.07\00:26:15.40 So, whenever God's people went to worship idols 00:26:15.40\00:26:18.47 God called it infidelity or harlotry. 00:26:18.47\00:26:21.84 So, there's an overlap between the two, 00:26:21.84\00:26:23.55 you can't always say that every time people worshiped idols 00:26:23.55\00:26:26.25 that there was prostitution work 00:26:26.25\00:26:29.28 or they had the temple prostitutes, or whatever. 00:26:29.28\00:26:32.45 Not every religion had that 00:26:32.45\00:26:33.59 but every time that God went after idols 00:26:33.59\00:26:35.62 God called it harlotry. 00:26:35.62\00:26:37.99 So, I don't know, that's kind of a vague distinction 00:26:37.99\00:26:40.96 but I hope that made sense, Eric. 00:26:40.96\00:26:42.60 (upbeat music) 00:26:42.60\00:26:45.23 - [Guest 1] Stay tuned, 00:26:46.13\00:26:47.27 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:47.27\00:26:49.67 (upbeat music) 00:26:49.67\00:26:52.34 - [Guest 2] Are you wondering what lies ahead 00:26:54.04\00:26:55.91 in human history 00:26:55.91\00:26:57.28 or what recent world events are harbingers of the end? 00:31:12.53\00:31:14.54 - We can. 00:31:14.54\00:31:15.44 - Okay, hey, this is my question. 00:31:16.67\00:31:19.21 So, I wanted to know if I should go back to my church 00:31:19.21\00:31:23.51 because my pastor told me something 00:31:23.51\00:31:26.85 that I know that's contrary to the Bible. 00:31:26.85\00:31:29.62 He says that it's okay 00:31:29.62\00:31:32.09 to go to football game on the Sabbath, 00:31:32.09\00:31:34.72 and he said that I am too black and white for the Bible. 00:31:34.72\00:31:39.36 And I was discouraged and I don't know what to do. 00:31:39.36\00:31:43.50 I don't wanna go down looking for a new church, 00:31:43.50\00:31:46.03 so can you gimme some points on this? 00:31:46.03\00:31:47.87 - Yeah, all right, so the question is, 00:31:49.07\00:31:50.77 if you're in a church and the pastor's telling you something 00:31:50.77\00:31:55.74 that you believe is categorically untrue, 00:31:56.95\00:31:59.48 well, that often will cast the other teachings 00:31:59.48\00:32:02.42 under a light of suspicion, 00:32:02.42\00:32:03.89 you'll wonder what else is he saying 00:32:03.89\00:32:05.55 that I may not be aware of that is not biblical. 00:32:05.55\00:32:08.62 And so it is cause for concern. 00:32:08.62\00:32:10.86 I would not say that if people in our church, 00:32:10.86\00:32:14.93 Pastor Ross and I both pastor at the same church, 00:32:14.93\00:32:18.20 if they said, 00:32:18.20\00:32:19.30 "If I ever hear pastor Doug say anything wrong 00:32:19.30\00:32:20.74 I'm not coming back," There'd be nobody left 00:32:20.74\00:32:23.37 because I'm sure I've said things wrong, 00:32:23.37\00:32:24.87 'cause we're humans and the Bible says, what, 00:32:24.87\00:32:27.48 "In the abundance of words sin is not lacking." 00:32:27.48\00:32:30.51 And sometimes you just misspeak so if someone said, 00:32:30.51\00:32:33.28 "As soon as he says something wrong 00:32:33.28\00:32:34.55 or he mispronounces something, I'm not coming back." 00:32:34.55\00:32:37.49 But then there's the other extreme 00:32:37.49\00:32:40.16 where if you sit under erroneous teachings, 00:32:40.16\00:32:44.39 that can affect your perspective. 00:32:45.49\00:32:48.33 And you see in ancient Israel 00:32:48.33\00:32:50.50 that whenever the king was not dedicated to God, 00:32:50.50\00:32:53.37 gradually the whole nation seemed to slip away 00:32:53.37\00:32:55.57 'cause it followed the leadership. 00:32:55.57\00:32:57.24 So, that's something you have to pray about. 00:32:58.41\00:33:00.41 I don't know, I would be surprised if a pastor tells 00:33:00.41\00:33:05.45 people there's nothing wrong with going to a football game 00:33:06.82\00:33:08.15 on the Sabbath day. 00:33:08.15\00:33:09.48 That's holy time for worshiping God 00:33:11.45\00:33:13.49 and the environment of a football game 00:33:13.49\00:33:15.96 with people kinda calling out for the defeat of their enemy, 00:33:15.96\00:33:20.53 the opponent, just is not the right mind and attitude, 00:33:20.53\00:33:24.40 and place for worship, 00:33:24.40\00:33:25.50 so that would really, really surprise me. 00:33:25.50\00:33:26.80 But nothing, I guess, really surprises me anymore. 00:33:26.80\00:33:30.41 - So, in that case, pastor what you're suggesting is, 00:33:31.81\00:33:33.84 if we're in a church that is clearly not preaching the Bible 00:33:33.84\00:33:38.91 or advocating teachings that are not biblical, 00:33:40.02\00:33:42.55 and we've said something, we've spoken to the leadership, 00:33:42.55\00:33:44.62 at some point I think we want to find ourselves 00:33:44.62\00:33:47.92 with those who are following the Bible 00:33:47.92\00:33:49.72 as closely as they can. 00:33:49.72\00:33:51.43 So, that might mean looking for another church. 00:33:51.43\00:33:53.70 - And you brought up a very good point 00:33:53.70\00:33:55.36 that I just wanna expand a little bit is, 00:33:55.36\00:33:58.33 if you've got a pastor 00:33:58.33\00:33:59.87 and he says something that is just outta left field 00:33:59.87\00:34:02.54 that surprises you, respect him enough to go to him. 00:34:02.54\00:34:05.97 And even for his own soul, approach him and say, 00:34:05.97\00:34:08.44 "According to the Bible, that is not right." 00:34:08.44\00:34:11.31 And in a loving spirit and humility, 00:34:11.31\00:34:14.42 it might bring him to conviction and turn them around. 00:34:14.42\00:34:17.15 And so, make at least an effort 00:34:17.15\00:34:18.49 to be reconciled with your brother, so to speak, 00:34:18.49\00:34:21.89 and try and drawn 'em back. 00:34:21.89\00:34:23.49 But if they're firm in preaching error, 00:34:23.49\00:34:25.69 then it's probably not healthy to continue going. 00:34:25.69\00:34:28.40 - Okay, we've got Steve listening in California. 00:34:28.40\00:34:30.23 Steve, welcome to the program. 00:34:30.23\00:34:31.80 - [Steve] Hi, pastors. 00:34:33.34\00:34:34.14 Thanks for taking my call. 00:34:34.14\00:34:35.40 - Sure. 00:34:35.40\00:34:36.30 - [Steve] My question is, when Cain was banished 00:34:37.64\00:34:41.38 he went to the land of Nod, who lived in the land of Nod? 00:34:43.18\00:34:47.15 - Well, in the very beginning 00:34:48.72\00:34:50.85 the land was talking about an area, a region, 00:34:50.85\00:34:53.86 that was later named. 00:34:53.86\00:34:54.99 It's just telling you where he went, 00:34:54.99\00:34:57.13 there's no people there yet. 00:34:57.13\00:34:59.03 And so, when Cain left 00:34:59.03\00:35:01.36 he went to a part of this Virgin world, country , 00:35:01.36\00:35:04.90 and developed it, and it was later named, 00:35:04.90\00:35:07.54 according to what the various patriarchs named it. 00:35:07.54\00:35:10.31 But when they first went 00:35:10.31\00:35:11.71 it had no name 'cause there were no aborigines 00:35:11.71\00:35:14.54 or other people living there. 00:35:14.54\00:35:16.24 So, I think Moses just telling us where that region is now. 00:35:16.24\00:35:21.12 And there's more than one place called Nob, actually, 00:35:22.48\00:35:25.09 in the Bible. 00:35:25.09\00:35:26.45 David, there's a place not far from the Philistines 00:35:26.45\00:35:29.26 called Nob too, but that's not the one that Cain went to. 00:35:29.26\00:35:32.59 - And of course a lot of things changed, 00:35:32.59\00:35:34.00 this of course happened before the flood; 00:35:34.00\00:35:35.96 and so many years passed and then you had the flood, 00:35:35.96\00:35:38.70 and then you had the writing of the Bible 00:35:38.70\00:35:40.04 during the time of Moses. 00:35:40.04\00:35:41.57 So, it's referring to a place that was fairly well known 00:35:41.57\00:35:44.97 to people at the time when Genesis was written by Moses. 00:35:44.97\00:35:49.34 - Yep. 00:35:49.34\00:35:50.48 - All right, thanks for your call Steve. 00:35:50.48\00:35:51.78 We've got Daniel in Canada. 00:35:51.78\00:35:53.45 Daniel, welcome to the program. 00:35:53.45\00:35:55.08 - [Daniel] Hi pastors, this is Daniel here. 00:35:56.18\00:35:58.72 So, if Satan tempted Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden 00:35:58.72\00:36:03.79 and our hearts became hard, just like God said 00:36:04.89\00:36:08.16 our hearts are evil. 00:36:08.16\00:36:10.37 Why did God allow our hearts to become evil 00:36:10.37\00:36:13.17 in the first place? 00:36:13.17\00:36:14.50 Why must we suffer for the sins of Adam and Eve? 00:36:14.50\00:36:17.67 - Yeah, and you could even expand that question and say, 00:36:19.01\00:36:22.24 why are some children born with birth defects 00:36:22.24\00:36:24.95 because of the bad living habits of their parents? 00:36:24.95\00:36:27.92 Some kids are born with the cerebral palsy 00:36:27.92\00:36:30.29 because the parents had alcohol problems. 00:36:30.29\00:36:32.69 And why are people in Ukraine suffering 00:36:32.69\00:36:35.02 because you've got an individual that's bombing them, 00:36:35.02\00:36:40.10 what did they do? 00:36:40.76\00:36:41.10 Well, first of all, 00:36:43.80\00:36:44.90 let me back up and go to the very heart of it. 00:36:44.90\00:36:46.63 God made His intelligent creatures free, 00:36:46.63\00:36:49.24 with a free will to choose to love Him 00:36:49.24\00:36:50.97 or choose not to love Him. 00:36:50.97\00:36:52.71 And as soon as man chose to distrust God 00:36:52.71\00:36:56.04 and not to love God, his compass needle inside was broken. 00:36:56.04\00:37:01.12 What I mean by that is, 00:37:01.78\00:37:02.85 we're normally created to love God first. 00:37:02.85\00:37:06.86 The great commandment is, love the Lord with all your heart, 00:37:06.86\00:37:08.86 even more than yourself, 00:37:08.86\00:37:10.16 and then love your neighbor as you love yourself. 00:37:10.16\00:37:13.36 And when man fell into sin, 00:37:13.36\00:37:16.03 all of a sudden Adam and Eve are blaming each other, 00:37:16.03\00:37:18.20 they're not getting along and they're blaming God, 00:37:18.20\00:37:20.70 they're blaming the devil and the serpent; 00:37:20.70\00:37:22.34 and all of a sudden man's hearts became hard because of sin. 00:37:22.34\00:37:27.41 God didn't just say, "I'm gonna harden the hearts," 00:37:28.81\00:37:29.88 it was what happened because of sin. 00:37:29.88\00:37:31.71 But making man free to love means he's free to not love, 00:37:31.71\00:37:36.79 otherwise God is forcing them to love, and that's not love. 00:37:38.19\00:37:41.92 - And, of course, freedom does have consequences 00:37:41.92\00:37:44.73 and we need that. 00:37:44.73\00:37:46.03 I mean, if you have freedom to choose to love 00:37:46.03\00:37:47.56 and to be a blessing, 00:37:47.56\00:37:48.70 and to be an encouragement to somebody, 00:37:48.70\00:37:50.73 well, then you also have freedom to hurt 00:37:50.73\00:37:53.50 and discourage others. 00:37:53.50\00:37:55.50 And people make their choices, 00:37:55.50\00:37:57.21 so the choices that we make 00:37:57.21\00:37:59.01 does have an impact upon those around us. 00:37:59.01\00:38:01.04 - Absolutely. 00:38:01.04\00:38:02.14 - And, of course, the devil's choices 00:38:02.14\00:38:03.65 made an impact upon Adam and Eve 00:38:03.65\00:38:05.25 and, of course, all of their descendants. 00:38:05.25\00:38:08.02 All right, thank you, Daniel. 00:38:08.02\00:38:09.05 We've got Caleb listening in New York. 00:38:09.05\00:38:10.82 - Hi Caleb. 00:38:12.52\00:38:14.02 - [Caleb] Pastor Batchelor, how you doing? 00:38:14.02\00:38:15.52 - Really good, thank you for calling. 00:38:15.52\00:38:17.43 - [Caleb] I'm good, thank you. 00:38:18.23\00:38:19.36 Well, by the way, I have a question. 00:38:19.36\00:38:20.66 I'm reading the Bible right now and I wanna know, 00:38:20.66\00:38:25.20 two questions, which version is better to read? 00:38:25.20\00:38:27.87 Right now I'm reading the NIV version, 00:38:27.87\00:38:30.14 which is easier for me to understand 00:38:30.14\00:38:32.47 than the King James version. 00:38:32.47\00:38:34.84 I wanna know if that's okay. 00:38:34.84\00:38:36.18 And, two, I read the gospels before 00:38:36.18\00:38:40.55 and not until I started watching your sermons, 00:38:40.55\00:38:43.92 I started understanding more things I've missed, 00:38:43.92\00:38:46.86 clearly I've missed. 00:38:46.86\00:38:48.62 I was wondering, is there a way, 00:38:48.62\00:38:50.33 is there a pattern I shouldn't read the Bible 00:38:50.33\00:38:52.03 to get more understanding? 00:38:52.03\00:38:53.46 - Yeah, well, good questions. 00:38:54.46\00:38:56.46 All right, first part of the question, 00:38:56.46\00:38:58.00 and Pastor Ross might answer 00:38:58.00\00:38:59.73 slightly different than I would. 00:38:59.73\00:39:01.17 I think there's several good translations of the Bible 00:39:01.17\00:39:03.61 you can read that they're translations 00:39:03.61\00:39:06.91 from what they call the Textus Receptus, 00:39:06.91\00:39:08.98 which is I think the most accurate. 00:39:08.98\00:39:10.88 And that would be, of course, 00:39:10.88\00:39:11.98 King James is the classic in English. 00:39:11.98\00:39:14.35 And when we say translations 00:39:14.35\00:39:15.45 we're talking about English translations. 00:39:15.45\00:39:17.62 Right now I'm reading through the English Standard Version, 00:39:19.02\00:39:21.16 which is also a translation from the Textus Receptus, 00:39:21.16\00:39:24.03 That is the American standard version. 00:39:24.03\00:39:26.80 The new King James version 00:39:26.80\00:39:28.10 is what I usually preach from every week, 00:39:28.10\00:39:30.07 is the new King James version. 00:39:30.07\00:39:31.63 I dunno, Pastor Ross, you have some other favorite? 00:39:33.03\00:39:34.77 - Yeah, maybe just to add to that, 00:39:34.77\00:39:36.30 there's a difference that we need to understand 00:39:36.30\00:39:37.84 between a translation and a paraphrase. 00:39:37.84\00:39:40.88 Now, we're just talking about English. 00:39:40.88\00:39:42.24 So, a translation is where you take the original Greek 00:39:42.24\00:39:45.08 and Hebrew, little bit of Aramaic, 00:39:45.08\00:39:47.22 and you translate that into English. 00:39:47.22\00:39:49.68 But a paraphrase might be where 00:39:49.68\00:39:51.35 you could do this, I could do this, 00:39:51.35\00:39:53.32 we take an English translation 00:39:53.32\00:39:55.66 and we rewrite it in other words 00:39:55.66\00:39:58.93 and we bring out different ideas, it's more devotional. 00:39:58.93\00:40:01.60 I'm not saying all paraphrases are wrong, 00:40:01.60\00:40:03.33 but if we're gonna study to find doctrinal depth 00:40:03.33\00:40:07.17 we wanna go with the good translation. 00:40:07.17\00:40:09.40 And we also gotta remember, 00:40:09.40\00:40:11.44 the Bible wasn't written originally in English 00:40:11.44\00:40:13.44 it was written in Greek and Hebrew, 00:40:13.44\00:40:14.78 and that's where having a concordance 00:40:14.78\00:40:16.78 and being able to compare scripture with scripture, 00:40:16.78\00:40:18.71 and go back and look at some of the original ways 00:40:18.71\00:40:21.18 the words were used, is always helpful. 00:40:21.18\00:40:23.52 And that really enlarges a person's study of the Bible. 00:40:23.52\00:40:26.15 - Yeah, and let the Bible interpret itself. 00:40:26.15\00:40:28.79 If you see a word and you think, 00:40:28.79\00:40:31.13 "I wonder what that word means." 00:40:31.13\00:40:32.16 Look at other places in the Bible 00:40:32.16\00:40:34.66 where that term or that word is used, 00:40:34.66\00:40:36.73 and usually through context of it you can say, 00:40:36.73\00:40:39.10 "Oh, now I see what they're saying." 00:40:39.10\00:40:41.40 So, that just happened to me this week 00:40:41.40\00:40:43.54 when we were studying about Moses 00:40:43.54\00:40:45.81 and it said, "That rock that followed them was Christ." 00:40:45.81\00:40:48.81 And I was picturing this Boulder rolling around 00:40:48.81\00:40:50.71 through the wilderness that kept giving him water. 00:40:50.71\00:40:52.95 And then I looked up where it says rock and I said, 00:40:52.95\00:40:54.65 "Oh no, Moses is talking about God." 00:40:54.65\00:40:56.72 He calls God the rock many times a Deuteronomy. 00:40:56.72\00:40:59.45 So, just by comparing it with other places 00:40:59.45\00:41:03.22 is usually one of the best ways. 00:41:03.22\00:41:04.86 And how do we study the Bible? 00:41:04.86\00:41:06.43 Well, again, Pastor Ross might be a little different 00:41:06.43\00:41:08.56 than me, but I'm always reading through the Bible 00:41:08.56\00:41:11.70 at different points. 00:41:11.70\00:41:13.03 I think you're trying to read through the whole Bible 00:41:13.03\00:41:13.97 in how long? 00:41:13.97\00:41:15.24 - Yeah, well, there's different programs you can do. 00:41:15.24\00:41:16.50 You can actually read through the Bible in 90 days, 00:41:16.50\00:41:19.37 it's about an hour of reading every day. 00:41:19.37\00:41:21.71 Didn't realize you can actually get through it that quickly. 00:41:21.71\00:41:23.65 So, yeah, I try to read through the Bible 00:41:23.65\00:41:25.48 at least once or twice a year. 00:41:25.48\00:41:27.55 And then there's some great commentaries, as well, 00:41:27.55\00:41:29.42 that you can read alongside that, 00:41:29.42\00:41:30.82 that really helps to bring it to light. 00:41:30.82\00:41:32.79 There's different ways of reading, pastor. 00:41:32.79\00:41:34.19 You can just read it to get the big picture, 00:41:34.19\00:41:35.99 which if you're gonna read through the Bible in a year 00:41:35.99\00:41:38.73 you're doing a lot of reading 00:41:38.73\00:41:40.10 and you're getting the big picture, which is good, 00:41:40.10\00:41:42.33 but there's also where you focus more 00:41:42.33\00:41:44.73 on a shorter passage of scripture 00:41:44.73\00:41:46.30 and really try to squeeze out everything 00:41:46.30\00:41:49.20 that, that chapter or that passage has to say. 00:41:49.20\00:41:51.94 And that's what takes a little more time, 00:41:51.94\00:41:53.48 that's where you compare scripture with scripture. 00:41:53.48\00:41:55.44 And both is good. - Yep, absolutely. 00:41:55.44\00:41:57.68 Yeah, I use the computer program, I use Logos, 00:41:58.88\00:42:02.08 and also use a free one called e-Sword, 00:42:02.08\00:42:05.45 and I find between the two of them 00:42:05.45\00:42:06.72 I get some great commentaries and some great tools. 00:42:06.72\00:42:09.82 So, that's probably more than that gets you started. 00:42:09.82\00:42:14.10 Yeah, you can read through the Bible, 00:42:14.10\00:42:15.46 you can start with the New Testament, read the history, 00:42:15.46\00:42:18.50 meaning you go from Genesis through the Kings, 00:42:18.50\00:42:20.90 and then jump to the New Testament. 00:42:20.90\00:42:22.77 Thanks so much, Caleb, hope that helps a little. 00:42:22.77\00:42:24.71 - [Guest 3] We've got Robert listening. 00:42:24.71\00:42:25.97 - We've got Robert listening from New Jersey. 00:42:25.97\00:42:27.61 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:42:27.61\00:42:29.24 - [Robert] Good evening, pastors Doug and Pastor Ross. 00:42:30.55\00:42:33.28 - Evening. 00:42:33.28\00:42:34.92 - [Robert] Good evening. 00:42:34.92\00:42:35.72 My question is just concerning, 00:42:35.72\00:42:37.12 did it rain prior to the flood or not 00:42:38.39\00:42:40.52 and is there evidence from the Bible on either? 00:42:40.52\00:42:43.12 And I'll take my answer off the air. 00:42:44.19\00:42:46.23 - All right, yeah, thank you very much. 00:42:46.23\00:42:47.60 I believe that the Bible's pretty clear 00:42:47.60\00:42:49.86 that prior to the flood it had not rained, 00:42:49.86\00:42:53.17 and you can-- 00:42:53.17\00:42:54.67 - Here's the verse, Pastor Doug. 00:42:54.67\00:42:56.04 I know where you're going with-- 00:42:56.04\00:42:57.01 - [Pastor Doug] Yeah, go ahead. 00:42:57.01\00:42:58.24 - Genesis, I just found it on the computer, 00:42:58.24\00:42:59.71 Genesis chapter two and verse six, it says, 00:42:59.71\00:43:02.78 "Speaking of before the flood," 00:43:02.78\00:43:04.68 oh, actually verse five. 00:43:04.68\00:43:06.01 It says, "Before any plant of the field was in the earth 00:43:06.01\00:43:08.72 and before any herb of the field had grown. 00:43:08.72\00:43:10.45 For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, 00:43:10.45\00:43:13.46 and there was no man to till the ground; 00:43:13.46\00:43:15.49 but a mist went up from the earth 00:43:15.49\00:43:17.33 and watered the whole face of the ground." 00:43:17.33\00:43:20.03 - Yeah. 00:43:20.03\00:43:20.93 So, it appears, 00:43:20.93\00:43:22.60 and not only from what you read in the Bible 00:43:22.60\00:43:24.77 but just from the fossil record, 00:43:24.77\00:43:27.00 that prior to the flood, 00:43:27.00\00:43:29.14 that there was an envelope of water, vapor or something, 00:43:29.14\00:43:33.31 that sorta surrounded the whole planet 00:43:33.31\00:43:35.91 that polarized the rays 00:43:35.91\00:43:37.15 and gave an even temperature around the planet. 00:43:37.15\00:43:39.65 "Cause even in, what do you call it, Antarctica, 00:43:39.65\00:43:42.82 up in Siberia, they find fossils of ferns, 00:43:42.82\00:43:47.16 which usually grow in a tropical climate. 00:43:47.16\00:43:49.72 So, the whole world was changed after the flood, 00:43:49.72\00:43:53.09 and it didn't rain like it does now. 00:43:53.09\00:43:55.23 I think there was just moisture and mist 00:43:55.23\00:43:57.23 that kind of irrigated and watered things. 00:43:57.23\00:44:01.10 - All right, well, thank you, Richard. 00:44:01.10\00:44:02.34 We've got Pat listening in Arizona. 00:44:02.34\00:44:04.34 Pat, welcome to the program. 00:44:04.34\00:44:06.51 - [Pat] Thank you. 00:44:06.51\00:44:08.31 - Thank you, Pat. 00:44:08.31\00:44:09.24 - [Pat] My question is, is gambling a sin? 00:44:10.35\00:44:14.15 - Well, first of all, the Bible says, 00:44:15.22\00:44:16.32 "Do not make haste to be rich, 00:44:16.32\00:44:18.32 and he that makes haste to be rich 00:44:18.32\00:44:19.79 will not be without guilt." 00:44:19.79\00:44:23.29 And so, the idea of getting rich quick by playing numbers, 00:44:23.29\00:44:27.56 first of all, 99.9% of the people that do that lose money 00:44:27.56\00:44:32.60 'cause the whole system is set up where the house wins. 00:44:34.37\00:44:37.91 And it's anything that becomes an addiction, 00:44:37.91\00:44:40.71 christians should avoid. 00:44:40.71\00:44:42.08 There are people who actually become addicted to gambling 00:44:42.08\00:44:44.51 and it destroys their lives, and they can't stop, 00:44:44.51\00:44:47.18 it's like a psychosis. 00:44:47.18\00:44:49.18 And I remember doing a meeting in another country, 00:44:50.49\00:44:51.82 and a lady came up to me just sobbing, and she says, 00:44:51.82\00:44:56.02 "I'm addicted to gambling and I've mortgaged my home, 00:44:56.02\00:45:00.46 I've run up our credit cards, 00:45:00.46\00:45:01.80 my husband's getting ready to leave me, and I can't stop." 00:45:01.80\00:45:04.43 And even before I got done counseling, she says, 00:45:04.43\00:45:06.57 "But there's this one more race 00:45:06.57\00:45:08.54 and I think if I win that race I can win it all back." 00:45:08.54\00:45:11.07 And I couldn't believe she was thinking about the next bet, 00:45:11.07\00:45:15.81 even as we talked. 00:45:15.81\00:45:17.51 - Well, there's another aspect of gambling 00:45:17.51\00:45:18.88 that we need to bear in mind as a Christian is, 00:45:18.88\00:45:21.12 if you do get lucky and you do win, 00:45:21.12\00:45:23.72 you're winning at a lot of other people's losing. 00:45:23.72\00:45:27.22 So, you're winning because of others misfortune, 00:45:27.22\00:45:30.06 so you're really taking advantage of other people. 00:45:30.06\00:45:32.33 - Same thing with the lottery. 00:45:32.33\00:45:33.66 - Right. - Yeah. 00:45:33.66\00:45:34.60 So, yeah, and it's interesting, 00:45:35.40\00:45:38.33 you study the history of people that have won the lottery 00:45:38.33\00:45:40.37 and most of them don't do very well, 00:45:40.37\00:45:41.97 if you look what happens in the next couple years. 00:45:41.97\00:45:43.47 - The money disappears real quick. 00:45:43.47\00:45:44.44 - Some even get murdered. 00:45:44.44\00:45:45.37 - Yeah. 00:45:45.37\00:45:46.21 - It's not good. 00:45:46.21\00:45:47.51 - All right, thanks your call, Pat. 00:45:47.51\00:45:48.51 We got Glen listening in Ohio. 00:45:48.51\00:45:50.25 Glen, welcome to the program. 00:45:50.25\00:45:51.75 - [Glen] Evening, (indistinct) thank you very much 00:45:52.98\00:45:54.32 for taking my call. 00:45:54.32\00:45:56.48 (indistinct) concerns misquoting of the scripture, 00:45:56.48\00:45:59.62 second Corinthians five, eight. 00:45:59.62\00:46:01.82 And I think it has (indistinct) implications right there, 00:46:03.12\00:46:05.33 most people say that Paul said, 00:46:05.33\00:46:06.90 "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." 00:46:06.90\00:46:10.40 And that's not what that says that, people misquote it. 00:46:10.40\00:46:13.13 Can you help me understand what the proper understanding is? 00:46:13.13\00:46:18.01 - Yeah, we'll do our best. 00:46:18.01\00:46:19.11 All right, so our friends, 00:46:19.11\00:46:20.48 if you wanna go to second Corinthians five, eight, 00:46:20.48\00:46:23.01 and this is often quoted when it talks about people dying. 00:46:23.01\00:46:26.21 And Paul says, and we'll start with verse eight, 00:46:27.35\00:46:31.45 "Yes, we are confident, 00:46:31.45\00:46:32.82 Yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body 00:46:32.82\00:46:35.26 and to be present with the Lord." 00:46:35.26\00:46:36.83 And then you need to read on here. 00:46:36.83\00:46:38.69 It says, "Therefore we make it our aim, 00:46:38.69\00:46:40.50 whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 00:46:40.50\00:46:44.33 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, 00:46:44.33\00:46:47.44 that each one of us might receive the things 00:46:47.44\00:46:49.34 done in the body, according to what he's done, 00:46:49.34\00:46:51.14 whether good or bad." 00:46:51.14\00:46:53.11 And so, Paul, earlier in that passage he says, 00:46:53.11\00:46:58.18 "'Cause I'm kind of in a quandary between two things," 00:46:59.48\00:47:03.52 he said, "On one hand," he says, 00:47:04.65\00:47:06.29 "I'd love to depart and be with the Lord." 00:47:06.29\00:47:08.56 Meaning when a Christian dies 00:47:08.56\00:47:10.93 their next conscious thought is gonna be the resurrection 00:47:10.93\00:47:13.23 and the presence of the Lord. 00:47:13.23\00:47:14.73 But Paul said, "It's needful for you that I stay here." 00:47:14.73\00:47:18.50 Well, it is true that if we die 00:47:18.50\00:47:21.30 and these bodies turn back to dust, the Bible's very clear. 00:47:21.30\00:47:24.81 And for the believer their next conscious thought it's, 00:47:24.81\00:47:28.34 there's no sensation of time 00:47:28.34\00:47:29.91 is to be the presence of the Lord, 00:47:29.91\00:47:32.11 but it doesn't happen until there's a judgment 00:47:32.11\00:47:33.82 and a resurrection. 00:47:33.82\00:47:35.18 - And it also says Paul was a prophet, so he had visions. 00:47:35.18\00:47:38.22 In another place he actually talks about 00:47:38.22\00:47:40.39 seeing something in vision and he says, 00:47:40.39\00:47:42.06 "Whether I was absent from the body or in the body, 00:47:42.06\00:47:44.49 I can't quite remember," and then he tells the story. 00:47:44.49\00:47:47.60 So, Paul was at times taken off in vision, 00:47:47.60\00:47:50.67 that would be considered absent from the body, 00:47:50.67\00:47:53.23 but I think here it's talking about 00:47:53.23\00:47:54.87 when we receive our reward 00:47:54.87\00:47:56.77 it's at the second coming of Christ, 00:47:56.77\00:47:58.41 and we get these immortal bodies, 00:47:58.41\00:48:00.84 and we get to live with Him. 00:48:00.84\00:48:03.04 - First verse in chapter five, 00:48:03.04\00:48:04.58 "For we know that if our earthly house, 00:48:04.58\00:48:06.21 this tent, is destroyed..." 00:48:06.21\00:48:07.52 - [Pastor Ross] Yeah - That's pretty clear, 00:48:07.52\00:48:08.62 he's talking about the body, when you're dead. 00:48:08.62\00:48:10.72 - [Pastor Ross] Right, right. 00:48:10.72\00:48:11.52 - Yeah, so thank you, Richard. 00:48:11.52\00:48:12.89 - Thank you. 00:48:12.89\00:48:13.92 We've got Yvonne listening from Mexico. 00:48:13.92\00:48:18.33 Yvonne, welcome to the program. 00:48:18.33\00:48:19.96 - [Yvonne] Hello. 00:48:21.10\00:48:22.36 - Hi. 00:48:22.36\00:48:23.43 - [Yvonne] It's an honor to talk to you, 00:48:23.43\00:48:25.90 since I talked to you first in a long time ago, 00:48:25.90\00:48:29.47 but you might not remember me. 00:48:29.47\00:48:32.64 - Well, thank you for calling the again, Yvonne. 00:48:32.64\00:48:34.78 - [Yvonne] By the way, I'm not that Mexican at all, 00:48:34.78\00:48:37.11 I'm Espagnole-Irish, and that's my question about it. 00:48:37.11\00:48:40.52 As (indistinct) Irish descendant, 00:48:41.62\00:48:44.82 can we celebrate St, Patrick's day? 00:48:44.82\00:48:47.92 My family too is Irish. 00:48:47.92\00:48:49.52 - So, there's no scripture that tells us 00:48:50.63\00:48:53.86 there's anything sacred about St. Patrick's day, 00:48:53.86\00:48:56.77 and I'm sure that if Patrick, Patrick was a very godly man, 00:48:56.77\00:49:00.94 he was actually a Protestant 00:49:00.94\00:49:02.00 and it's interesting that the Catholics made 00:49:02.00\00:49:04.44 Patrick a Saint, and he was a Protestant. 00:49:04.44\00:49:08.08 And Patrick was also a Sabbath keeper, 00:49:08.08\00:49:09.88 some people don't know that he kept the seventh day Sabbath 00:49:09.88\00:49:13.45 but nowhere are we told to worship saints in the Bible. 00:49:13.45\00:49:18.52 And so, sometimes for fun in North America it's a tradition, 00:49:19.85\00:49:23.59 you'll wear a green tie 00:49:23.59\00:49:24.86 and people say it's St. Patrick's day, 00:49:24.86\00:49:26.49 and so to just to commiserate with our Irish friends, 00:49:26.49\00:49:30.43 and my family's part Irish, my brother had flaming red hair. 00:49:30.43\00:49:34.30 But we'll wear something green on St. Patrick's day, 00:49:34.30\00:49:37.77 but I wouldn't worship it as far as a spiritual holiday. 00:49:37.77\00:49:42.84 So, hope that helps a little bit. 00:49:43.88\00:49:45.15 Thank you, Yvonne, appreciate your question. 00:49:45.15\00:49:47.02 - All right, we've got Anita listening from Maryland. 00:49:47.02\00:49:49.52 Anita, welcome to the program. 00:49:49.52\00:49:51.82 - [Anita] Hi, how are you, pastor? 00:49:51.82\00:49:53.76 - Yeah. 00:49:53.76\00:49:54.82 - [Anita] Can you hear me? 00:49:54.82\00:49:55.76 - We can. 00:49:55.76\00:49:57.03 - [Anita] Okay, today is the third anniversary 00:49:57.03\00:50:01.76 of my 18 year old's death, 00:50:01.76\00:50:03.97 we didn't know till he died 00:50:03.97\00:50:05.87 that somebody was giving him medical marijuana. 00:50:05.87\00:50:08.97 He was acting very aggressive and violent towards us, 00:50:10.27\00:50:13.11 his personality totally changed. 00:50:13.11\00:50:15.08 I called him at work, made a big mistake, 00:50:16.18\00:50:18.35 not knowing much about marijuana, 00:50:18.35\00:50:19.95 thinking it's a harmless drug, 00:50:19.95\00:50:21.68 like everyone else I was totally wrong. 00:50:21.68\00:50:24.25 He actually, after work, 00:50:24.25\00:50:26.92 after I called him and I yelled at him, 00:50:26.92\00:50:29.82 instead of coming straight home 00:50:29.82\00:50:31.03 he used all the marijuana he had 00:50:31.03\00:50:33.26 'cause he knew mom and dad are gonna take everything away. 00:50:33.26\00:50:36.53 He had a psychosis, 00:50:36.53\00:50:38.63 crashed his car into a tree near our house, 00:50:38.63\00:50:41.74 survived that crash, 00:50:41.74\00:50:43.04 walked out onto I95 and was run over and killed. 00:50:44.27\00:50:47.51 He was hit, the first person that hit him, 00:50:47.51\00:50:50.78 the first car was a 28-year-old with a history of DUI, 00:50:50.78\00:50:55.02 marijuana drunk driving. 00:50:55.02\00:50:56.28 So, my question is kind of loaded. 00:50:56.28\00:50:58.65 I feel extremely guilty 'cause I caused his death 00:51:00.19\00:51:04.29 and plus Aaron wasn't was not baptized, 00:51:05.36\00:51:09.93 so I kind of I'm wondering, 00:51:09.93\00:51:13.00 is there a chance that he could be in heaven 00:51:13.00\00:51:15.47 and will I be forgiven for what I did? 00:51:15.47\00:51:17.84 - All right, let's start with the second part 00:51:19.11\00:51:20.61 of that question. 00:51:20.61\00:51:21.94 First of all, you know our hearts go out to you. 00:51:21.94\00:51:24.28 That's a heartbreaking, 00:51:25.55\00:51:26.92 that's one of the worst things that could happen, 00:51:26.92\00:51:28.98 is losing a child. 00:51:28.98\00:51:30.39 And my wife and I, we lost a 21 year old son, years ago, 00:51:30.39\00:51:35.59 and it's just the worst news that parents can have 00:51:37.13\00:51:40.93 so we empathize with you. 00:51:40.93\00:51:43.33 And then the part of this I want to deal with, first of all, 00:51:43.33\00:51:47.14 as you said, can I be forgiven. 00:51:47.14\00:51:49.14 Be careful not to blame yourself for this, 00:51:49.14\00:51:52.74 you were doing probably what any parent would do, 00:51:52.74\00:51:54.61 you were concerned about your son's health and wellbeing 00:51:54.61\00:51:57.91 and so you may not have reacted the way, 00:51:57.91\00:52:00.65 if you could play it over again you might do it differently, 00:52:00.65\00:52:03.45 but you can't beat yourself up forever about that 00:52:03.45\00:52:05.62 'cause you certainly had no intention on doing him harm, 00:52:05.62\00:52:08.09 you were worried about him. 00:52:08.09\00:52:09.82 And the Bible tells us that, 00:52:09.82\00:52:13.80 "Time and chance happens to all," is what Solomon says. 00:52:13.80\00:52:17.17 So, be careful not to read too much meaning into it, 00:52:17.17\00:52:20.14 it was an accident. 00:52:20.14\00:52:22.14 And so, there was a terrible tragic accident, 00:52:22.14\00:52:25.01 and then of course you're wondering now, 00:52:25.01\00:52:26.64 "What does this mean, 00:52:26.64\00:52:27.74 is there a chance that I'll see my son again?" 00:52:27.74\00:52:29.98 This is one of those situations 00:52:29.98\00:52:31.35 where you've gotta know that God is good, God is love, 00:52:31.35\00:52:34.02 and that God loves your son infinitely more than you do, 00:52:34.02\00:52:38.12 and He will do what is good. 00:52:38.12\00:52:40.66 And so, you just put this in God's hands and trust Him. 00:52:40.66\00:52:44.23 We, obviously on the program 00:52:44.23\00:52:45.79 we can't put ourselves in the position of the eternal 00:52:45.79\00:52:48.16 and say we think you will or won't be saved. 00:52:48.16\00:52:51.13 There's guidelines in the Bible for following Him 00:52:51.13\00:52:54.34 but I think we're gonna be surprised when we get to heaven, 00:52:54.34\00:52:56.81 that there were some exceptions we didn't anticipate. 00:52:56.81\00:53:00.31 And so, the Bible talks about the second coming of Jesus 00:53:00.31\00:53:04.85 as the blessed hope, 00:53:04.85\00:53:06.15 and so just hang on to hope and live for the Lord, 00:53:06.15\00:53:09.75 trust that He forgives you. 00:53:09.75\00:53:11.22 God is good and God is love, Anita. 00:53:11.22\00:53:13.19 And if it's okay, 00:53:13.19\00:53:14.92 Pastor Ross and I'd like to have a brief prayer with you 00:53:14.92\00:53:18.06 'cause I know that you and others like you 00:53:18.06\00:53:20.53 have lost children and your hearts are breaking. 00:53:20.53\00:53:24.70 Loving Lord, we just pray that you'll be with Anita 00:53:24.70\00:53:27.04 and I pray her family, her husband, 00:53:27.04\00:53:28.90 and help them just to heal from this tragedy 00:53:28.90\00:53:32.47 that's touched their lives. 00:53:32.47\00:53:33.78 And I pray through it, 00:53:33.78\00:53:35.14 You've told us that you can bring good from all things 00:53:35.14\00:53:37.78 that happen to us, 00:53:37.78\00:53:39.01 and that there can be redemption 00:53:39.01\00:53:40.75 that will come from this story. 00:53:40.75\00:53:42.22 And so, be with them and comfort and bless. 00:53:42.22\00:53:44.19 We pray in Jesus name, amen. 00:53:44.19\00:53:46.96 Appreciate your call, Anita. 00:53:48.22\00:53:49.69 Pastor Ross, yes? 00:55:36.26\00:55:40.24 - Absolutely. 00:55:40.24\00:55:41.04 Now, not after they're gone. 00:55:41.04\00:55:43.47 I mean, some people say, 00:55:43.47\00:55:44.84 "Well, burn a candle and say a prayer after they're gone." 00:55:44.84\00:55:46.54 The Bible says that, 00:55:46.54\00:55:47.61 "It's appointed unto man once to die, 00:55:47.61\00:55:49.38 and after that the judgment." 00:55:49.38\00:55:50.68 The Bible says, "Where there's life there's hope." 00:55:50.68\00:55:53.88 And so, you pray for their salvation, absolutely. 00:55:53.88\00:55:58.05 Moses interceded for the whole nation, 00:55:58.05\00:56:00.39 and you got many cases in the Bible 00:56:00.39\00:56:02.16 where even Jesus said to Peter, 00:56:02.16\00:56:04.79 "I have prayed for you, that your faith does not fail." 00:56:04.79\00:56:08.06 So, if Jesus prayed for others 00:56:08.06\00:56:09.70 and if Abraham interceded for Lot, and Moses for the nation, 00:56:09.70\00:56:13.97 we should be praying for others as well. 00:56:13.97\00:56:16.14 - Okay, next question that we have, 00:56:16.14\00:56:18.17 what is the difference between the moral law 00:56:18.17\00:56:20.91 and the ceremonial law? 00:56:20.91\00:56:22.74 - Yeah, a very good question. 00:56:23.75\00:56:25.11 Well, when you say moral law 00:56:25.11\00:56:26.45 that's usually talking about the 10 commandments, 00:56:26.45\00:56:29.78 which is a summary of the Law of God. 00:56:29.78\00:56:32.59 Sometimes that's called the Decalogue, Deca meaning 10, 00:56:32.59\00:56:35.32 that 10 commandments that you would find 00:56:35.32\00:56:37.83 in Exodus chapter 20. 00:56:37.83\00:56:40.80 But when you read in Deuteronomy chapter four, 00:56:40.80\00:56:44.00 when God gives the 10 commandments, He also tells us, 00:56:44.00\00:56:47.17 and I think it's in verse 13, it says, 00:56:47.17\00:56:49.37 "God gave me 10 commandments 00:56:49.37\00:56:50.94 which he commanded us to perform, 00:56:50.94\00:56:52.64 and at that time the Lord commanded me 00:56:52.64\00:56:56.54 to give you statutes and judgments." 00:56:56.54\00:56:59.15 So, there were a number of laws 00:56:59.15\00:57:00.75 that revolved around the sanctuary and its services, 00:57:00.75\00:57:03.79 and its ceremonies, they are called the ceremonial law. 00:57:03.79\00:57:06.65 Sacrificing lambs, circumcision, all nailed to the cross. 00:57:06.65\00:57:11.09 - Okay, Another question that we have, 00:57:11.09\00:57:12.66 how do I determine the Will of God? 00:57:12.66\00:57:15.66 - Well, I wrote a little book called 00:57:15.66\00:57:17.53 "determining The Will of God" You can download for free, 00:57:17.53\00:57:20.00 but I'll give you a couple of highlights, 00:57:20.00\00:57:21.50 I think I give a dozen points in the book. 00:57:21.50\00:57:23.81 One is, study the word, 00:57:23.81\00:57:26.61 there's guidance in the word, 00:57:26.61\00:57:28.01 there's guidance through the Holy Spirit speaking to us, 00:57:28.01\00:57:30.21 you'll hear a voice guiding you through your conscience. 00:57:30.21\00:57:32.71 Christian counsel, 00:57:32.71\00:57:34.02 look for providential openings for the Word of God 00:57:34.02\00:57:37.35 and be willing to be faithful to wait until you know 00:57:37.35\00:57:40.42 if it's a big decision. 00:57:40.42\00:57:41.66 - Okay, last question that we have here, Pastor Doug. 00:57:43.06\00:57:44.93 If the Jews didn't believe that Jesus is the Messiah, 00:57:44.93\00:57:47.50 why did they stop sacrificing lambs? 00:57:47.50\00:57:49.93 - Well, they kinda were forced to stop sacrificing lambs, 00:57:51.27\00:57:54.00 They did write at the crucifixion when the veil was 00:57:54.00\00:57:56.77 rent. But then when the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D, 00:57:56.77\00:57:59.71 that's where they had brought all their sacrifices 00:57:59.71\00:58:01.61 and God told Moses, 00:58:01.61\00:58:03.14 "Don't do it on your own, bring it to this place." 00:58:03.14\00:58:05.61 Well, friends, we really are out of time now. 00:58:05.61\00:58:07.45 We want to thank you for tuning into "Bible Answers Live", 00:58:07.45\00:58:10.89 look forward to studying His Word with you again next week. 00:58:10.89\00:58:13.99 (upbeat music) 00:58:13.99\00:58:16.62 - [Guest 1] "Bible Answers Live", 00:58:17.69\00:58:19.43 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:19.43\00:58:22.93 (upbeat music) 00:58:22.93\00:58:25.60
