The Word of God. 00:00:16.61\00:00:19.95 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live," 00:00:19.95\00:00:22.75 providing accurate and practical answers 00:00:22.75\00:00:25.25 to all your Bible questions. 00:00:25.25\00:00:27.56 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.82\00:00:31.49 To receive any of the Bible resources 00:00:31.49\00:00:33.60 mentioned in this broadcast, 00:00:33.60\00:00:35.16 call 800-835-6747. 00:00:35.16\00:00:39.20 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.20\00:00:44.17 Now, here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:45.64\00:00:48.31 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.31\00:00:50.31 - Hello, listening friends. 00:00:50.31\00:00:51.55 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.55\00:00:54.05 The largest wooden ship ever built in modern times, 00:00:55.48\00:00:58.59 was completed in 1909 by the firm 00:00:58.59\00:01:00.96 of Percy & Small in Bath, Maine. 00:01:00.96\00:01:04.06 They named it "The Wyoming," 00:01:04.06\00:01:05.73 because Governor Brooks of Wyoming 00:01:05.73\00:01:07.46 was one of the chief investors. 00:01:07.46\00:01:09.50 The odd thing, is Wyoming is a landlocked state 00:01:09.50\00:01:12.33 with no ocean port. 00:01:12.33\00:01:14.00 Then again, Wyoming is a very big state 00:01:14.00\00:01:16.37 and this ship was enormous. 00:01:16.37\00:01:18.47 It was a six-masted schooner 00:01:18.47\00:01:20.58 with a length of 450 feet from tip to tip. 00:01:20.58\00:01:24.08 This made the Wyoming, 00:01:24.08\00:01:25.41 the largest wooden ship ever built. 00:01:25.41\00:01:28.15 Her six masts towered 120 feet above the deck. 00:01:28.15\00:01:31.29 And they flew 12,000 yards of sale. 00:01:31.29\00:01:34.72 To build the hull alone, 00:01:34.72\00:01:36.26 required a virtual forest of 1.5 million feet of pine. 00:01:36.26\00:01:41.16 And the Wyoming was a workhorse 00:01:41.16\00:01:43.20 that could carry 6,000 tons of coal. 00:01:43.20\00:01:45.73 But because of her extreme length in the wood construction, 00:01:47.14\00:01:50.51 the Wyoming tended to flex and creek in heavy seas 00:01:50.51\00:01:53.94 causing the long planks to twist 00:01:53.94\00:01:56.41 allowing seawater to leak in the hull. 00:01:56.41\00:01:59.05 The colossal ship had to use pumps constantly 00:01:59.05\00:02:01.75 to keep her hull free of water. 00:02:01.75\00:02:03.99 After 15 years of service, in March, 1924, 00:02:03.99\00:02:07.59 the Wyoming floundered and sank in a heavy storm 00:02:07.59\00:02:11.16 with all hands. 00:02:11.16\00:02:12.43 The Bible says there was another wooden boat 00:02:13.50\00:02:15.50 about the same dimensions as the Wyoming, 00:02:15.50\00:02:17.90 built by craftsman that had never been to sea, 00:02:17.90\00:02:21.10 and yet it survived the worst storm in history. 00:02:21.10\00:02:24.51 I'll give you two guesses, Pastor Ross, 00:02:24.51\00:02:26.34 what boat we're talking about? 00:02:26.34\00:02:28.44 - I think we all know. We're talking about Noah's Ark. 00:02:28.44\00:02:30.81 Which interestingly enough, 00:02:30.81\00:02:32.18 it's very close to the size of the Wyoming. 00:02:32.18\00:02:35.55 - That's right. - But probably not as wide. 00:02:35.55\00:02:36.89 Definitely, not as... the Ark was much higher-- 00:02:36.89\00:02:40.49 - Different draft. 00:02:40.49\00:02:41.99 I think they just had a picture on the screen 00:02:41.99\00:02:43.93 of The Ark Encounter. 00:02:43.93\00:02:45.36 You and I were there in... 00:02:45.36\00:02:47.36 I forget where was that. 00:02:47.36\00:02:48.30 In Kentucky? 00:02:48.30\00:02:49.56 - Kentucky. - Yeah. And that's quite a... 00:02:49.56\00:02:51.63 And it's supposed to be built to scale. 00:02:51.63\00:02:54.00 By then, and that's quite an experience. 00:02:54.00\00:02:55.54 But according to the Bible, 00:02:55.54\00:02:57.27 the Ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, 30 cubits high. 00:02:57.27\00:03:01.98 With a cubit using 18 inches, that would be 450 feet. 00:03:01.98\00:03:06.78 So, it's the same length as the Wyoming. 00:03:06.78\00:03:08.78 But it's kinda cheating a little 00:03:08.78\00:03:09.88 'cause the Wyoming is going from the bowsprit 00:03:09.88\00:03:13.12 to the back pole, off the back. 00:03:13.12\00:03:18.19 And the Ark was 75 feet wide, 45 feet high. 00:03:19.26\00:03:23.43 Yeah, it was a much bigger boat, but it survived a storm. 00:03:25.43\00:03:29.70 Now, you mentioned something before we went on the air, 00:03:29.70\00:03:31.54 I thought that was interesting, 00:03:31.54\00:03:33.07 is that all of the animals 00:03:33.07\00:03:36.75 before the flood that survived were on the Ark, 00:03:36.75\00:03:39.68 and the animals that did not survive 00:03:39.68\00:03:42.12 were on the Wyoming, because they had become coal. 00:03:42.12\00:03:44.49 - (laughs) That's right. 00:03:44.49\00:03:45.59 - And the Wyoming was a coal carrier. 00:03:45.59\00:03:48.12 - You wanna be a Noah's Ark, if you're the animal for sure. 00:03:49.49\00:03:51.83 - That's right. 00:03:51.83\00:03:53.19 Well, this reminds me of a verse that Jesus shares 00:03:53.19\00:03:55.50 in Matthew 24, and this is verse 37 to 39. 00:03:55.50\00:03:59.77 "But as the days of Noah were, 00:03:59.77\00:04:02.20 so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 00:04:02.20\00:04:05.71 For as in the days before the flood, 00:04:05.71\00:04:07.88 they were eating and drinking, 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.38 marrying and giving in marriage 00:04:09.38\00:04:11.25 until the day that Noah entered the Ark. 00:04:11.25\00:04:13.72 And they did not know until the flood came 00:04:13.72\00:04:15.95 and took them all away. 00:04:15.95\00:04:17.65 So, it will be with the coming of the Son of Man." 00:04:17.65\00:04:20.72 Seems to indicate, Pastor Ross, 00:04:20.72\00:04:22.32 that it's gonna seem like life's going on 00:04:22.32\00:04:26.43 with some normalcy when the end finally hits. 00:04:26.43\00:04:30.80 - Mm-hmm. Of course, the Ark was built, 00:04:30.80\00:04:32.70 and then all the animals entered into the Ark, 00:04:32.70\00:04:34.74 and that probably stirred people up. 00:04:34.74\00:04:36.71 But then, the door was closed 00:04:36.71\00:04:38.07 and it seemed as though things just kept going on the same 00:04:38.07\00:04:40.11 for the next seven days. 00:04:40.11\00:04:41.84 A matter of fact, the people outside the Ark 00:04:41.84\00:04:43.21 probably began to mock Noah in his family, inside the Ark. 00:04:43.21\00:04:46.48 But then, suddenly, the sky grew dark and the flood came. 00:04:46.48\00:04:49.68 - Yeah, absolutely. 00:04:49.68\00:04:51.22 And He warns us that, in the last days, 00:04:51.22\00:04:54.22 evil men and seducers, will wax worse and worse. 00:04:54.22\00:04:57.16 And just because it looks like life is going on, 00:04:57.16\00:04:59.69 it says, "Before the flood, they were eating and drinking, 00:04:59.69\00:05:03.20 marrying, and planning marriages." 00:05:03.20\00:05:05.20 Usually, looking forward when you plan a marriage. 00:05:05.20\00:05:07.80 "They were planting, they were building." 00:05:07.80\00:05:10.14 Those are things a person does when they're looking forward. 00:05:10.14\00:05:13.48 And then, boom, it's like Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:05:13.48\00:05:16.04 When they woke up that morning, it was a beautiful day. 00:05:16.04\00:05:20.15 Birds were tweeting from flower to flower. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.92 I guess the birds were going from branch to branch. 00:05:24.49\00:05:26.15 The butterflies were going to the flowers. 00:05:26.15\00:05:27.59 - It's the hummingbird. - Yeah. 00:05:27.59\00:05:28.96 But then after Lot and his family got out, it says, 00:05:28.96\00:05:31.39 "God rained down fire and brimstone." 00:05:31.39\00:05:33.80 So, Jesus warns us that when the end comes, 00:05:33.80\00:05:36.30 it's gonna come suddenly. 00:05:36.30\00:05:38.07 And there's not gonna be an airplane writing it in the sky. 00:05:38.07\00:05:42.97 But we see some of the same signs 00:05:42.97\00:05:44.71 happening in the world today. 00:05:44.71\00:05:46.04 - We do have a book that talks about end-time events, 00:05:46.04\00:05:48.78 and it's called "The Last Night on Earth." 00:05:48.78\00:05:51.85 And it talks about this passage of Scripture 00:05:51.85\00:05:53.45 as well as others. 00:05:53.45\00:05:54.52 How can we be ready for what is yet to come? 00:05:54.52\00:05:56.92 This is a free offer for this evening. 00:05:56.92\00:05:58.32 If you'd like to receive it, 00:05:58.32\00:05:59.69 all you have to do is call the number 800-835-6747. 00:05:59.69\00:06:03.53 And you wanna ask for Offer Number 101. 00:06:03.53\00:06:06.09 Again, it's called "The Last Night on Earth," 00:06:06.09\00:06:08.43 and we'll be happy to send it to to anyone who calls 00:06:08.43\00:06:10.37 and ask, it's 800-835-6747. 00:06:10.37\00:06:14.00 Ask for "The Last Night on Earth," 00:06:14.00\00:06:15.50 and we'll be happy to put it in the mail 00:06:15.50\00:06:17.01 if you're North America. 00:06:17.01\00:06:18.14 If you're outside of North America, 00:06:18.14\00:06:19.67 please just go to the Amazing Facts website, 00:06:19.67\00:06:21.54 just amazingfacts.org. 00:06:21.54\00:06:23.61 You'll be able to read the book right there online. 00:06:23.61\00:06:25.75 If you have a Bible question. 00:06:25.75\00:06:27.18 I see a number of folks already called in 00:06:27.18\00:06:28.95 and they're waiting. 00:06:28.95\00:06:30.05 But if you have a Bible question, 00:06:30.05\00:06:31.15 the number to call is 800-463-7297 00:06:31.15\00:06:34.79 That's 800-463-7297. 00:06:34.79\00:06:37.89 We wanna greet our friends, Pastor Doug, 00:06:37.89\00:06:39.29 who are watching on Amazing Facts TV. 00:06:39.29\00:06:41.06 I know there's folks watching on the Internet, 00:06:41.06\00:06:42.90 also on Good News TV, and then also on Facebook. 00:06:42.90\00:06:46.47 - Yup. - Incidentally, 00:06:46.47\00:06:47.27 we might wanna just mention. 00:06:47.27\00:06:48.60 If you're watching on Facebook, Pastor Doug's Facebook page, 00:06:48.60\00:06:51.51 also the "Amazing Facts" Facebook page. 00:06:51.51\00:06:53.27 If you have a Bible question, 00:06:53.27\00:06:54.81 you can type it there in the comments section. 00:06:54.81\00:06:57.08 And at the end of the program, 00:06:57.08\00:06:58.21 we're gonna try and answer the questions 00:06:58.21\00:07:00.25 that have already come in on our Facebook page. 00:07:00.25\00:07:02.62 So, you can do that. 00:07:02.62\00:07:04.12 - Alright. Well, thank you for your call. 00:08:31.44\00:08:32.57 We've got Martha who is listening in California. 00:08:32.57\00:08:34.84 Martha, welcome to the program. 00:08:34.84\00:08:36.48 - [Martha] Thank you pastors for taking my call. 00:08:37.88\00:08:41.92 My question is based on Genesis 2: 7. 00:08:43.49\00:08:48.56 Some of my friends, believe that when you die, 00:08:49.86\00:08:53.86 your soul goes to Heaven. 00:08:53.86\00:08:56.33 But after reading Genesis 2: 7, which says, 00:08:56.33\00:09:00.24 "Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, 00:09:00.24\00:09:05.27 and breathed into his nostrils, the breath of life. 00:09:06.54\00:09:08.51 And man became a living soul." 00:09:08.51\00:09:11.28 That gives me the impression, 00:09:11.28\00:09:13.92 that once a person dies 00:09:13.92\00:09:16.18 and the breath of life is gone, 00:09:16.18\00:09:18.79 that the soul ceases to exist. 00:09:18.79\00:09:21.82 Is that correct? 00:09:21.82\00:09:23.06 - Well, yeah, essentially, you could look at it 00:09:24.36\00:09:26.63 in these terms: 00:09:26.63\00:09:27.96 the Bible tells us and the word "soul" there, 00:09:27.96\00:09:32.73 are rather spirit or breath. 00:09:32.73\00:09:34.34 It's it's talking about "pneuma." 00:09:34.34\00:09:36.17 Well, in the Greek, it's "ruach..." 00:09:36.17\00:09:37.41 I'm sorry in the Hebrew, it's a "ruach," 00:09:37.41\00:09:39.71 in the Greek, it's "pneuma" is the word. 00:09:39.71\00:09:41.31 They both mean breath. 00:09:41.31\00:09:43.18 And Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 12, 00:09:43.18\00:09:46.55 that when a person dies, 00:09:46.55\00:09:47.65 you basically have creation in reverse. 00:09:47.65\00:09:50.22 It says that the body returns to the earth as it was 00:09:50.22\00:09:53.05 and the spirit or the breath of life 00:09:53.05\00:09:55.09 returns to God who gave it. 00:09:55.09\00:09:56.99 So, right now, we think and function and operate, 00:09:56.99\00:09:59.83 because we have this gift of life, this breath of life, 00:09:59.83\00:10:03.60 and it functions in our bodies. 00:10:03.60\00:10:05.63 We experience life in our bodies. 00:10:05.63\00:10:08.07 Our brains even dream in our bodies. 00:10:08.07\00:10:10.94 When you die, who you are basically, 00:10:10.94\00:10:14.21 it's the programming that God has. 00:10:15.24\00:10:17.08 He saves that, and He's gonna, 00:10:17.08\00:10:19.11 in the resurrection, He puts it all in a new body. 00:10:19.11\00:10:22.15 we don't go to Heaven with the old bodies. 00:10:22.15\00:10:24.62 Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. 00:10:24.62\00:10:27.26 So, we have a special study guide that actually deals 00:10:27.26\00:10:29.86 with the subject of death. 00:10:29.86\00:10:31.19 And it's got all the verses that explain the breath of life. 00:10:31.19\00:10:34.50 And we'll be happy to share a copy with you. 00:10:34.50\00:10:36.26 - The study guide is called, "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:10:36.26\00:10:39.23 And all you have to do to receive that, 00:10:39.23\00:10:40.47 is just call 800-835-6747. 00:10:40.47\00:10:43.94 You can ask for the study guide, 00:10:43.94\00:10:45.01 "Are the Dead Really Dead.?" 00:10:45.01\00:10:46.61 We'll be happy to send that to anyone in North America. 00:10:46.61\00:10:48.71 Pastor, we also have a website called deathtruth.com. 00:10:48.71\00:10:52.98 And if you wanna go to that website, 00:10:52.98\00:10:54.45 it's got a number of verses. 00:10:54.45\00:10:56.08 There's actually sermons you can watch there, 00:10:56.08\00:10:57.89 a lot of great resources, just deathtruth.com. 00:10:57.89\00:11:01.59 Martha, thank you for your call. 00:11:01.59\00:11:02.82 We've got Craig listening from Washington. 00:11:02.82\00:11:04.76 Craig, welcome to the program. 00:11:04.76\00:11:06.39 - [Craig] Hello. Thank you, guys. 00:11:08.00\00:11:10.77 I just wanna say, you guys have been inspirational to me, 00:11:10.77\00:11:13.97 and I thank you so much for your work. 00:11:13.97\00:11:17.11 - Well, it's a joy to do it. 00:11:17.11\00:11:18.44 Thank you so much for your encouragement, Craig. 00:11:18.44\00:11:21.44 And your question tonight? 00:11:21.44\00:11:22.81 - [Craig] Yeah, it was on Revelation 19: 10, where it 00:11:24.28\00:11:29.18 says, that the testimony of Jesus Christ 00:11:30.52\00:11:32.52 is the Spirit of prophecy. 00:11:32.52\00:11:34.92 - Yes. - And I hear all the time, 00:11:34.92\00:11:38.56 the gift of prophecy, rather than the Spirit of prophecy. 00:11:39.96\00:11:44.40 And I was just wondering, because 00:11:44.40\00:11:46.84 when I read John 6:63, it says, 00:11:47.84\00:11:52.44 "It is Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. 00:11:52.44\00:11:56.48 The words that I speak to you are Spirit, 00:11:56.48\00:11:58.38 and they are life." 00:11:58.38\00:11:59.55 What does that mean? 00:12:01.38\00:12:02.42 But you go back through John 2, 3, 4, 00:12:02.42\00:12:06.86 but John 2 says, "Jesus said to them, 00:12:06.86\00:12:09.52 'Destroy this Temple, and in three days I'll raise it up.' 00:12:09.52\00:12:13.09 Then the Jews said, 'It has taken 46 years 00:12:13.09\00:12:16.26 to build this temple, 00:12:16.26\00:12:17.33 and you will raise it up in three days?' 00:12:17.33\00:12:19.70 But he was speaking of the Temple of His body." 00:12:19.70\00:12:22.34 Jesus uses literal things like the temple 00:12:25.57\00:12:29.61 and applies them in an illustrative application 00:12:29.61\00:12:32.18 to other literal things like His body. 00:12:32.18\00:12:35.12 And that's the Spirit, right? 00:12:35.12\00:12:36.95 Of his language. 00:12:38.29\00:12:39.95 And so, when it says, the testimony of Jesus, 00:12:39.95\00:12:43.43 what He says, is the Spirit of prophecy. 00:12:43.43\00:12:46.43 And then, prophecy you got Babylon, 00:12:46.43\00:12:48.20 which is not literal Babylon, 00:12:48.20\00:12:51.30 the city, but it's the false religious system. 00:12:51.30\00:12:55.34 And you got all kinds of, Israel is nothing literal Israel, 00:12:55.34\00:12:59.24 but spiritual Israel. 00:12:59.24\00:13:01.14 And so, I was just wondering, 00:13:01.14\00:13:02.68 could that be what it's talking about or is it...? 00:13:06.11\00:13:09.28 - Well, let's talk about that for a second. 00:13:10.32\00:13:12.82 You know, when you read there in Revelation. 00:13:12.82\00:13:14.89 First of all, you look in Revelation 12 in the last verse 00:13:14.89\00:13:17.49 and it says, "And the dragon was wroth with a woman, 00:13:17.49\00:13:20.50 and he went to make war with the remnant of her seed 00:13:20.50\00:13:23.47 that keep the commandments of God, 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.70 and have the testimony of Jesus." 00:13:25.70\00:13:28.10 And so, you wonder what is the testimony of Jesus? 00:13:28.10\00:13:31.54 Well, you got a Revelation 19 there in verse 10, 00:13:31.54\00:13:34.48 the angel tells John, 00:13:34.48\00:13:35.84 "The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy." 00:13:35.84\00:13:38.45 Well, that goes along with Isaiah 8, 00:13:38.45\00:13:41.05 where it talks about the law and the prophets. 00:13:41.05\00:13:43.28 You can read that in Isaiah 8: 16. 00:13:43.28\00:13:45.75 And you can read it in Isaiah 8: 20, 00:13:45.75\00:13:48.82 where it tells us, "To the law and the testimony: 00:13:48.82\00:13:51.53 If they do not speak according to this Word, 00:13:51.53\00:13:53.40 it's because there's no light in them." 00:13:53.40\00:13:55.23 I would not over-complicate it if I were you, Craig, 00:13:55.23\00:13:58.17 because it's simply talking about the law 00:13:58.17\00:14:00.74 and the prophets there. 00:14:00.74\00:14:02.67 It says, "The woman keeps the commandments of God 00:14:02.67\00:14:04.94 and has the testimony of Jesus." 00:14:04.94\00:14:06.61 One of the gifts of the Spirit is prophecy. 00:14:07.68\00:14:10.71 So, calling it a gift, or calling it the Spirit of 00:14:10.71\00:14:14.62 prophecy, they're kind of interchangeable. 00:14:14.62\00:14:15.98 It's the Holy Spirit that gives the gift to prophecy. 00:14:15.98\00:14:18.49 So, it's basically just saying, 00:14:18.49\00:14:20.06 these two characteristics of God's church in the last days, 00:14:20.06\00:14:22.56 that she's got the law and the prophets. 00:14:22.56\00:14:24.56 She has the truth, the gifts of prophecy, 00:14:24.56\00:14:26.90 and obedient, commandment-keeping. 00:14:26.90\00:14:29.00 - The verse, I think you refer to, Pastor Doug, 00:14:29.00\00:14:30.60 Ephesians 4: 11, speaking about the church 00:14:30.60\00:14:33.80 and what the Spirit gives to the church. 00:14:33.80\00:14:35.64 "And He Himself," speaking of the Spirit, 00:14:35.64\00:14:37.71 "Gave some to be apostles and some prophets." 00:14:37.71\00:14:40.81 So, one of the gifts given by the Holy Spirit 00:14:40.81\00:14:42.78 to the church, is the gift of prophecy. 00:14:42.78\00:14:44.91 Also known as the Spirit of prophecy, 00:14:44.91\00:14:47.02 or the testimony of Jesus. 00:14:47.02\00:14:49.12 - Also, says that in 1st Corinthians 12. 00:14:49.12\00:14:51.62 It's one of the gifts, the Holy Spirit is prophecy. 00:14:51.62\00:14:55.19 Now, we have a book that talks about the two witnesses, 00:14:55.19\00:14:57.56 the Law and the prophets, and it references this first. 00:14:57.56\00:15:00.60 We'll send you a free copy. 00:15:00.60\00:15:01.70 I think it's called "The Glorious Mount: 00:15:01.70\00:15:03.57 Who Are the Two Witnesses?" 00:15:03.57\00:15:04.83 - If you'd like to receive that, 00:15:04.83\00:15:05.63 all you have to do is call, 00:15:05.63\00:15:06.97 once again, our resource number. That's 800-835-6747. 00:15:06.97\00:15:11.41 Ask for the book on the two witnesses 00:15:11.41\00:15:13.17 called the "Glorious Mount," 00:15:13.17\00:15:14.98 and we'll be able to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:15:14.98\00:15:18.08 We have Josiah listening from New York. 00:15:18.08\00:15:20.45 Josiah, welcome to the program. 00:15:20.45\00:15:22.08 - [Josiah] Would it be inconsistent with God 00:15:23.22\00:15:26.92 if He had said something like in the Old Testament, 00:15:26.92\00:15:31.19 then later on, 00:15:31.19\00:15:32.39 change it in the New Testament? 00:15:34.20\00:15:36.13 For example, we have the Sabbath, right? 00:15:36.13\00:15:39.97 - Yup. 00:15:39.97\00:15:40.87 - [Josiah] Then another one is, 00:15:42.57\00:15:44.21 as a Seventh-Day Adventist, 00:15:45.97\00:15:47.38 we say that God's Sabbath still exists still today. 00:15:47.38\00:15:52.28 Then because, well, God does not change. 00:15:53.42\00:15:57.29 When you read Malachi 3: 6, 00:15:57.29\00:16:00.12 in the Book of Hebrew 13, the eighth chapter. 00:16:01.22\00:16:03.83 My question is in terms of who Israel is, 00:16:07.23\00:16:11.00 would it be inconsistent if God said, 00:16:11.00\00:16:13.67 true Israel was the people 00:16:13.67\00:16:15.64 from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, 00:16:21.04\00:16:22.88 and the descendants of Jacob who later on become Israel? 00:16:22.88\00:16:26.51 So, He was dealing with them. 00:16:26.51\00:16:29.15 Then why today, the church is pitching that true Israel 00:16:29.15\00:16:33.36 is anybody who accept Christ? 00:16:33.36\00:16:36.16 - Okay, let's talk about that. 00:16:36.16\00:16:38.63 So, God says, "I am the Lord, I change not." 00:16:38.63\00:16:41.33 And then, you read in Hebrews, 00:16:41.33\00:16:42.60 I think you quoted, it was chapter 13, 00:16:42.60\00:16:44.30 "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever." 00:16:44.30\00:16:47.20 And if God called Abraham and the Jewish nation, 00:16:47.20\00:16:50.94 and said that He was gonna bless the world through them, 00:16:50.94\00:16:54.41 then why would God suddenly change and say, 00:16:54.41\00:16:57.08 now Israel is the church. 00:16:57.08\00:16:59.35 Well, the descendants of Abraham 00:16:59.35\00:17:01.55 have always been the church. 00:17:01.55\00:17:04.35 In other words, He's not changing in that. 00:17:04.35\00:17:06.49 What's happening, is even in the Old Testament, 00:17:06.49\00:17:09.86 just because you had Jewish blood, 00:17:09.86\00:17:11.63 didn't mean you were holy and you were gonna be saved. 00:17:11.63\00:17:14.10 There were good descendants of Abraham, 00:17:14.10\00:17:16.06 and there were some that were, they behaved very badly. 00:17:16.06\00:17:19.67 The apostles in Jesus, 00:17:19.67\00:17:20.87 of course, were descendants of Abraham. 00:17:20.87\00:17:22.40 And the people that killed Jesus, that handed Him over, 00:17:22.40\00:17:25.61 were also descendants of Abraham. 00:17:25.61\00:17:27.64 Jesus said to the religious leaders, 00:17:27.64\00:17:29.94 "You say you're children of Abraham, 00:17:29.94\00:17:31.68 you're not children of Abraham. 00:17:31.68\00:17:33.31 You are of your father, the devil." 00:17:33.31\00:17:35.28 Now, those were the enemies 00:17:35.28\00:17:36.95 that were fighting against the truth. 00:17:36.95\00:17:38.62 Then Paul tells us in Romans, he says, he is not a Jew, 00:17:38.62\00:17:41.62 which is one outwardly, 00:17:41.62\00:17:42.86 but he is a Jew, which is one inwardly. 00:17:42.86\00:17:45.19 And that circumcision is not in the flesh, 00:17:45.19\00:17:47.56 it's of the spirit. 00:17:47.56\00:17:48.83 And then, Galatians, Paul says, 00:17:48.83\00:17:50.50 "If you are Christ's, you are Abraham's seed." 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.03 So, it's always been true, Old and New Testament, 00:17:53.03\00:17:55.54 that those who came to God and believed, 00:17:55.54\00:17:57.44 even in the mosaic laws, 00:17:57.44\00:17:58.84 is the stranger that accepts the Lord, he was considered, 00:17:58.84\00:18:02.68 he was adopted into the family, he was grafted in. 00:18:02.68\00:18:05.88 And then, if you had people that were literally 00:18:05.88\00:18:08.35 children of Abraham or Israel, and they were disobedient, 00:18:08.35\00:18:11.15 they died in the wilderness. 00:18:11.15\00:18:12.25 They didn't make it to the Promised Land. 00:18:12.25\00:18:14.16 So, God's terms of salvation 00:18:14.16\00:18:15.92 have always been for those who follow Him, 00:18:15.92\00:18:18.46 that's His true family. 00:18:18.46\00:18:19.69 That's always been those who are 00:18:19.69\00:18:21.40 the spiritual descendants of Abraham. 00:18:21.40\00:18:23.67 So, no, we have a book that's called "Spiritual Israel." 00:18:25.00\00:18:27.70 That will explain this perfectly. 00:18:27.70\00:18:29.57 Josiah we'll be happy to send you a free copy. 00:18:29.57\00:18:31.54 - And the number again is 800-835-6747. 00:18:31.54\00:18:34.74 You can ask for the book it's called "Spiritual Israel." 00:18:34.74\00:18:37.88 We'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:18:37.88\00:18:40.42 Next caller that we have is Ginger listening in Nebraska. 00:18:40.42\00:18:42.92 Ginger, welcome to the program. 00:18:42.92\00:18:44.55 - [Ginger] Hello. 00:18:45.49\00:18:46.52 - Hi, thank you for calling. 00:18:46.52\00:18:47.99 - [Ginger] My question is are angels only in human form 00:18:49.89\00:18:52.96 or are angels in different living forms? 00:18:52.96\00:18:55.13 And what is a good Bible verse on angels? 00:18:55.13\00:18:58.17 - Well, it seems like an angel spoke through a donkey 00:18:58.17\00:19:02.17 in the story of Balaam, 00:19:02.17\00:19:03.27 and that would be a good angel. 00:19:03.27\00:19:05.01 And it seems like a bad angel 00:19:05.01\00:19:06.34 spoke through the serpent in the garden of Eden. 00:19:06.34\00:19:09.61 And that would be the devil. 00:19:09.61\00:19:11.25 And so, can angels speak through 00:19:11.25\00:19:15.02 or manipulate other creatures? 00:19:15.02\00:19:17.42 You also have a story where some angels, some demons, 00:19:17.42\00:19:21.12 filled a herd of pigs and the pigs went berserk 00:19:21.12\00:19:24.66 and ran off a cliff. 00:19:24.66\00:19:25.83 So, whether they took the form of pigs, 00:19:26.90\00:19:30.00 I don't know. The Bible does say concerning the devil, 00:19:31.37\00:19:34.10 and I think this is in 2nd Corinthians 11, 00:19:34.10\00:19:36.57 it says, "Satan himself is transformed 00:19:36.57\00:19:39.41 into an angel of light." 00:19:39.41\00:19:41.31 So, angels have some ability 00:19:41.31\00:19:43.14 maybe to transform their appearance. 00:19:43.14\00:19:46.01 And that's why we've gotta be careful 00:19:46.01\00:19:47.38 because some fallen angels have sometimes pretended 00:19:47.38\00:19:50.19 to be the spirits of dead people to manipulate others. 00:19:50.19\00:19:54.32 So, I dunno, what do you think, Pastor Ross? 00:19:54.32\00:19:55.39 - Yeah, we have the example, for example of, 00:19:55.39\00:19:57.89 let's see, as King Saul that went to the witch of Endor 00:19:59.26\00:20:02.00 and an evil spirit impersonated the prophet Samuel. 00:20:02.00\00:20:05.37 - [Pst. Doug] That's right. 00:20:05.37\00:20:06.47 - At least it appeared that it was Samuel. 00:20:06.47\00:20:07.57 So, there you have an evil spirit, 00:20:07.57\00:20:10.04 trying to take the place, or represent a deceased loved one. 00:20:10.04\00:20:13.54 And yeah, it does seem as though they can at least 00:20:13.54\00:20:15.41 take possession of animals. 00:20:15.41\00:20:17.05 You mentioned the pigs and others. 00:20:17.05\00:20:18.81 - Yeah. - And the serpent. 00:20:18.81\00:20:20.15 Of course, there's a dragon in the book Revelation. 00:20:20.15\00:20:22.25 Described as the devil too, (laughs) but it's interesting. 00:20:22.25\00:20:25.22 Yeah. Powerful beings, and there's good ones and bad ones. 00:20:25.22\00:20:28.76 - Now, Ginger, I've got a message online, 00:20:28.76\00:20:30.53 you can watch for free on YouTube. 00:20:30.53\00:20:32.03 And it's just, "Truth About Angels." 00:20:32.03\00:20:34.56 You can type in "Doug Batchelor Amazing Facts." 00:20:34.56\00:20:36.77 And we've got a couple of messages 00:20:36.77\00:20:38.47 that go into depth talking about angels. 00:20:38.47\00:20:41.40 - Okay. Thank you, we've got Robert listening in Washington. 00:20:41.40\00:20:43.84 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:20:43.84\00:20:45.37 - [Robert] Yes, it's about-- I was reading in Matthew 5 00:20:45.37\00:20:49.98 about the scribes the pharisees and how, 00:20:49.98\00:20:53.92 unless you've got their righteousness, 00:20:53.92\00:20:55.72 unless you exceed their righteousness, 00:20:55.72\00:20:57.52 then you won't able to make it into the Kingdom of Heaven. 00:20:57.52\00:21:01.36 - Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's verse 20. 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.06 - [Robert] Right, and they were really rigorous, 00:21:05.66\00:21:09.20 and just had all these hundreds 00:21:09.20\00:21:13.13 or thousands of rules kinda thing. 00:21:13.13\00:21:15.20 Is it easy to get into the Kingdom of Heaven or is it hard? 00:21:17.97\00:21:22.28 - Okay, good question. 00:21:22.28\00:21:23.65 Is it hard or easy to get into the Kingdom of Heaven? 00:21:23.65\00:21:26.31 By the way, before we even answer this question, 00:21:26.31\00:21:28.42 I don't wanna forget to let you know, we have a book. 00:21:28.42\00:21:30.29 And I don't think we've offered it before, 00:21:30.29\00:21:32.02 but it's in our lineup of free offers. 00:21:32.02\00:21:35.02 "Is it Easier to Be Saved or Lost?" 00:21:35.02\00:21:37.56 a great book by Joe Crews. 00:21:37.56\00:21:40.10 People automatically think, 00:21:40.10\00:21:41.63 "Well, strait is the gate, and narrow is the way. 00:21:41.63\00:21:43.53 It's hard to be saved." 00:21:43.53\00:21:45.50 But in reality, it's only gonna be a few number 00:21:45.50\00:21:48.94 because if few actually look. 00:21:48.94\00:21:50.77 The Bible says, "The way of the transgressor is hard." 00:21:50.77\00:21:53.91 Jesus said, "Take my yolk upon you. 00:21:53.91\00:21:55.64 My yolk is easy, My burden is light." 00:21:55.64\00:21:58.21 It's much easier to be saved and to serve Jesus 00:21:58.21\00:22:01.05 than to serve the devil. 00:22:01.05\00:22:02.35 The devil's like the Pharaoh, he's a hard task master. 00:22:02.35\00:22:05.19 Now, when it says here in Matthew 5: 20, 00:22:05.19\00:22:08.32 "I say to you, unless your righteousness 00:22:08.32\00:22:10.23 exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees, 00:22:10.23\00:22:13.13 you'll by no means be saved." 00:22:13.13\00:22:14.93 When Christ said, "Unless it exceeds a righteousness," 00:22:14.93\00:22:17.50 He didn't mean you needed to be more fastidious 00:22:17.50\00:22:20.74 and exacting than the scribes and pharisees. 00:22:20.74\00:22:23.51 He meant you needed to have 00:22:23.51\00:22:24.61 a better quality of righteousness. 00:22:24.61\00:22:27.01 They were trusting their own righteousness. 00:22:27.01\00:22:29.34 We are trusting a higher righteousness. 00:22:29.34\00:22:31.85 It is the righteousness of Christ. 00:22:31.85\00:22:33.55 Now, they were trusting an outward. 00:22:33.55\00:22:36.18 Jesus is saying you must have inward change. 00:22:36.18\00:22:39.85 It's not just your outward actions, 00:22:39.85\00:22:41.26 it's your inward attitude and your spirit. 00:22:41.26\00:22:43.49 Yeah, it wasn't saying we needed to be more legalistic 00:22:45.39\00:22:47.96 than the scribes and pharisees, 00:22:47.96\00:22:49.56 it saying you needed a better quality than they had. 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.77 So, yeah, go ahead and make sure 00:22:53.80\00:22:56.14 and call asked for that book. 00:22:56.14\00:22:57.41 "Is it Easier to Be Saved or Lost?" 00:22:57.41\00:22:58.81 Robert and you'll be blessed. 00:22:58.81\00:23:00.14 - The number is 800-835-6747. 00:23:00.14\00:23:03.01 Ask for the book, "Is it Easier to Be Saved or Lost?" 00:23:03.01\00:23:06.48 And we'll send it out to you, Robert, 00:23:06.48\00:23:08.32 or anyone who calls and asks. 00:23:08.32\00:23:10.12 - Got time for one more before the break, I think? 00:23:10.12\00:23:11.62 - . I think we have Jeff in Montana. 00:23:11.62\00:23:13.29 Jeff, welcome to the program. 00:23:13.29\00:23:15.52 - [Jeff] Good evening. - Evening. 00:23:15.52\00:23:17.39 - [Jeff] Is the instruction of the law 00:23:17.39\00:23:19.73 in Deuteronomy 24: 3-4 still apply today? 00:23:19.73\00:23:24.07 And specifically, in the case of abandonment 00:23:24.07\00:23:26.74 in the first marriage? 00:23:26.74\00:23:28.20 And would the abomination before the Lord 00:23:28.20\00:23:31.14 be because of being with another partner, 00:23:31.14\00:23:33.74 or being married to another? 00:23:33.74\00:23:35.74 Because wasn't Hosea instructed to take back his wife 00:23:35.74\00:23:40.05 after she had been with another, but not married? 00:23:40.05\00:23:43.62 - Yeah. Good, good question. 00:23:43.62\00:23:44.69 First of all, for our friends listening. 00:23:44.69\00:23:47.49 Well, let me read the verse 00:23:47.49\00:23:48.59 and then I'll answer as well as I can. 00:23:48.59\00:23:50.66 It says here in Deuteronomy 24, I'll start with verse three. 00:23:50.66\00:23:54.60 Well "If a man divorces a woman," and it says, 00:23:55.83\00:23:58.00 "If the latter husband, she remarries, 00:23:58.00\00:24:01.07 if her latter husband detests her 00:24:01.07\00:24:03.10 and writes her a certificate of divorcement 00:24:03.10\00:24:04.44 and puts it in her hand, sends her out of his house. 00:24:04.44\00:24:07.44 Or if the latter husband dies, who took her, his wife, 00:24:07.44\00:24:09.81 then her former husband who divorced her 00:24:09.81\00:24:11.45 must not take her back to wife as she's been defiled 00:24:11.45\00:24:14.75 for this is an abomination before the Lord." 00:24:14.75\00:24:17.65 He said that basically, this could start... 00:24:17.65\00:24:20.09 What do you call it? 00:24:20.09\00:24:21.02 Wife swapping. 00:24:21.02\00:24:23.76 Here, you marry her for a while and that doesn't work out. 00:24:23.76\00:24:25.69 Then I'll marry her back again. 00:24:25.69\00:24:27.93 So, the Bible's clear, 00:24:27.93\00:24:30.13 God wants marriage to be permanent. 00:24:30.13\00:24:32.87 And if, Heaven forbid, there is a divorce, 00:24:32.87\00:24:36.44 divorce is not so you could try it out with someone else 00:24:36.44\00:24:38.84 and that doesn't work out, and you go back. 00:24:38.84\00:24:41.14 Now, what happened with Hosea. 00:24:41.14\00:24:43.91 And let me just back up. 00:24:43.91\00:24:45.51 Sometimes a man or woman will have an affair, 00:24:45.51\00:24:47.82 and those marriages can be redeemed. 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.68 Be very clear about that. 00:24:49.68\00:24:51.12 And the Lord tells us that He's forgiving. 00:24:52.22\00:24:54.69 God tells Hosea to marry a harlot. 00:24:55.79\00:24:58.59 Now, that's not normally what He tells 00:24:58.59\00:25:00.33 religious leaders to do. 00:25:00.33\00:25:02.03 This was to be an illustration, a living illustration 00:25:02.03\00:25:04.77 of how God was willing to love and take back the church, 00:25:04.77\00:25:08.14 His bride, even though she had been unfaithful 00:25:08.14\00:25:10.84 many times and gone after idols. 00:25:10.84\00:25:12.87 And when she was unfaithful again, He said, 00:25:14.11\00:25:15.11 "Take her back again," to illustrate 00:25:15.11\00:25:17.05 that even after many times of being a repeat offender, 00:25:17.05\00:25:22.12 the church has wandered from God, God forgives her, 00:25:23.45\00:25:25.49 and He takes her back. 00:25:25.49\00:25:26.82 It's the history of not only Israel, 00:25:26.82\00:25:28.46 but the history of the church. 00:25:28.46\00:25:30.36 - And, of course, this specific law 00:25:30.36\00:25:32.19 that we find in the Old Testament, 00:25:32.19\00:25:33.90 Jesus comments on this, in Matthew 19, 00:25:33.90\00:25:36.93 speaking to the religious leaders 00:25:36.93\00:25:38.20 about the certificate of divorce. 00:25:38.20\00:25:40.30 He says, "Moses said this because of the hardness 00:25:40.30\00:25:42.57 of your hearts." 00:25:42.57\00:25:43.94 So, this was not God's plan, at least not in the beginning, 00:25:43.94\00:25:47.04 but because of their stubbornness 00:25:47.04\00:25:48.41 and the hardness of their hearts, He allowed that law, 00:25:48.41\00:25:51.95 the certificate of divorce. 00:25:51.95\00:25:53.62 So, in one sense, yeah, it's true that God was trying to, 00:25:53.62\00:25:58.45 without a doubt, limit or help people 00:25:58.45\00:26:00.92 to recognize the sacredness of marriage. 00:26:00.92\00:26:02.56 It was to be a long-- a lifelong commitment. 00:26:02.56\00:26:06.63 But even that was plan B. 00:26:06.63\00:26:08.50 Plan A, was for them to remain married 00:26:08.50\00:26:11.00 as Jesus brings it out. 00:26:11.00\00:26:12.73 - Yeah, God doesn't want His people going 00:26:12.73\00:26:15.50 from a man and woman being married, 00:26:15.50\00:26:18.31 and they say, "Oh, we're having difficulties. 00:26:18.31\00:26:20.01 I think I'll go try and marry this other person." 00:26:20.01\00:26:21.84 And "Oh, that didn't work out. 00:26:21.84\00:26:22.98 I'll come back and marry you again." 00:26:22.98\00:26:24.71 And basically, saying that some people start thinking 00:26:24.71\00:26:29.05 the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. 00:26:29.05\00:26:31.42 And God created this law to prevent people 00:26:31.42\00:26:34.06 from ever thinking, 00:26:34.06\00:26:35.16 "I'll try that, and then I can come back." 00:26:35.16\00:26:36.96 They needed to know marriage was permanent 00:26:36.96\00:26:38.49 and divorce was permanent. 00:26:38.49\00:26:40.03 And it's a very, very serious matter. 00:26:40.03\00:26:42.40 So, listening friends, alright, don't go away. 00:26:42.40\00:26:44.70 We've got more Bible questions coming. 00:26:44.70\00:26:46.80 And don't forget, you could also take a look 00:26:46.80\00:26:49.04 at our website during the break, amazingfacts.org. 00:26:49.04\00:26:52.71 A lot of the offers can be found there as well. 00:26:52.71\00:26:55.98 (bright/ upbeat music) 00:26:55.98\00:26:59.55 - [Announcer 1] Stay tuned, "Bible Answers Live" 00:26:59.55\00:27:01.72 will return shortly. 00:27:01.72\00:27:03.18 (bright/ upbeat music) 00:27:03.18\00:27:06.42 - [Announcer 2] Are you looking for a simple way 00:27:07.99\00:27:09.32 to share your faith? 00:30:37.87\00:30:40.04 Did His suffering in any way, 00:30:40.04\00:30:41.97 contribute to our justification? 00:30:41.97\00:30:44.77 I'm sorry. Did His suffering in any way 00:30:44.77\00:30:46.81 contribute to our justification and/or sanctification? 00:30:46.81\00:30:51.55 And I was actually looking at 1st Peter 2: 24. 00:30:51.55\00:30:55.88 - Alright. Well, let me read that for our friends 00:30:55.88\00:30:57.59 who are watching. 00:30:57.59\00:30:59.15 It says in 1st Peter 2:24, "Who Himself bore our sins 00:30:59.15\00:31:03.53 in His own body on the tree 00:31:03.53\00:31:05.39 that we having died to sin, might live for righteousness, 00:31:05.39\00:31:09.20 by whose stripes you were healed." 00:31:09.20\00:31:11.97 So, what about His suffering? 00:31:11.97\00:31:14.04 We know the penalty for sin is death. 00:31:14.04\00:31:16.04 But that statement is actually a summary. 00:31:16.04\00:31:18.51 The penalty for sin is not just death, 00:31:18.51\00:31:21.18 the penalty for sin is punishment 00:31:21.18\00:31:23.65 according to your works and death. 00:31:23.65\00:31:26.98 So, Jesus not only died on the cross. 00:31:26.98\00:31:28.88 It's not like they just flipped a switch 00:31:28.88\00:31:31.35 and Jesus went to sleep. 00:31:31.35\00:31:33.25 Jesus suffered and died. 00:31:33.25\00:31:34.62 And the suffering was the punishment for our sins. 00:31:34.62\00:31:38.63 There are varying degrees of reward 00:31:38.63\00:31:41.16 for both obedience, and service, and sacrifice, 00:31:41.16\00:31:44.63 and also for sin and disobedience. 00:31:44.63\00:31:46.97 Jesus said that he that knew his master's will 00:31:46.97\00:31:50.07 and did not do it, will be beaten with many stripes. 00:31:50.07\00:31:52.91 He that did not know his masters 00:31:52.91\00:31:54.88 will and didn't do it will be beaten with few stripes. 00:31:54.88\00:31:57.91 So, to be really honest, the penalty sin is not just dying. 00:31:57.91\00:32:02.88 Like you close your eyes and it's eternal darkness, 00:32:04.25\00:32:06.22 it's suffering and death. 00:32:06.22\00:32:08.96 And so, Jesus suffered for our sins on the cross. 00:32:08.96\00:32:12.66 - Mm-hmm. We also have the verse in Revelation 22. 00:32:12.66\00:32:15.53 It says that when Jesus comes, 00:32:15.53\00:32:17.30 He brings His rewards with Him 00:32:17.30\00:32:19.07 to give to every man according to their works." 00:32:19.07\00:32:20.97 - That's right. - So, there is a degree. 00:32:20.97\00:32:23.00 And of course, that does involve suffering for the wicked. 00:32:23.00\00:32:25.57 It's amazing, you read, for example, in the Bible, 00:32:25.57\00:32:27.84 you read about the Garden of Gethsemane, 00:32:27.84\00:32:29.61 and what Jesus went through. 00:32:29.61\00:32:31.38 Where it seems if the angel did not come and strengthen Him, 00:32:31.38\00:32:34.45 He would've died right there, 00:32:34.45\00:32:35.82 just bearing the weight of the sins of the world. 00:32:35.82\00:32:38.92 There was amazing, incredible suffering 00:32:38.92\00:32:41.29 more than we can ever imagine. 00:32:41.29\00:32:42.39 Which Jesus said, "My God, My God, 00:32:42.39\00:32:43.89 why Hast thou forsaken Me?" 00:32:43.89\00:32:44.93 So, that was very real. 00:32:44.93\00:32:47.10 It was Christ bearing our sins. 00:32:47.10\00:32:49.13 - So, yeah, Jesus experienced both mental 00:32:49.13\00:32:51.63 and physical suffering, taking our punishment. 00:32:51.63\00:32:55.50 And one more thought on that, Barbara, 00:32:55.50\00:32:57.54 is there's the parable of Matthew 18, 00:32:57.54\00:32:59.61 where this unmerciful servant, 00:32:59.61\00:33:01.68 he owes this incredible debt to the king... 00:33:01.68\00:33:04.41 king forgives him, but then he refuses 00:33:04.41\00:33:07.08 to forgive a fellow servant, 00:33:07.08\00:33:08.48 and has this fellow servant punished for a little debt. 00:33:08.48\00:33:12.09 The king says, "Your forgiveness is revoked 00:33:12.09\00:33:14.92 to the wicked servant." 00:33:14.92\00:33:16.29 And he says, "You are now going to the tormentors 00:33:16.29\00:33:18.13 to pay your debt." 00:33:18.13\00:33:19.43 So, there is punishment for sin. 00:33:19.43\00:33:22.66 - Alright, next caller that we have, 00:33:22.66\00:33:23.87 is also listening in Tennessee. 00:33:23.87\00:33:25.50 We have Jeff in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 00:33:25.50\00:33:27.27 Jeff, welcome to the program. 00:33:27.27\00:33:28.80 - [Jeff] I was just kinda wondering. 00:33:29.87\00:33:32.07 When a person loses a spouse, 00:33:33.11\00:33:36.81 and possibly remarries years down the road, 00:33:36.81\00:33:40.58 how does that play out on Resurrection Day? 00:33:41.68\00:33:44.89 Is it feasible for that person to end up with two spouses? 00:33:44.89\00:33:49.16 - Well, your question, and maybe Pastor Ross 00:33:50.29\00:33:52.29 will look at that where the sadducees ask Jesus 00:33:52.29\00:33:54.50 a very similar question. 00:33:54.50\00:33:56.06 They put a proposition to Jesus of a scenario 00:33:57.63\00:34:00.67 where this woman marries a man and he dies before her. 00:34:00.67\00:34:05.41 And so, according to the old Hebrew law, 00:34:05.41\00:34:07.81 his brother took her in and marries her, and then he dies. 00:34:07.81\00:34:11.75 And then, she marries another brother and he dies. 00:34:11.75\00:34:15.05 And I guess she goes through seven brothers, they all die. 00:34:15.05\00:34:17.92 And then, she dies eventually from old age. 00:34:17.92\00:34:21.32 And, (laughs) I wouldn't marry her 00:34:21.32\00:34:24.23 after the third or fourth guy dies. 00:34:24.23\00:34:26.03 I'd think she's bad luck. 00:34:26.03\00:34:27.13 But anyway, so this is the illustration 00:34:27.13\00:34:28.80 that they gave Jesus. 00:34:28.80\00:34:30.10 And they said, "Who is she married to in the Resurrection?" 00:34:30.10\00:34:33.60 And Jesus said to them, "You do err." 00:34:33.60\00:34:35.50 Now, did you have the verse, 00:34:35.50\00:34:36.77 you wanna read it? - Yes. Matthew chapter 22. 00:34:36.77\00:34:39.17 The answer, Jesus answers verse 29, 00:34:39.17\00:34:41.71 "Jesus answered and said to them, 00:34:41.71\00:34:42.84 'You are mistaken, not knowing the Scripture 00:34:42.84\00:34:44.91 or the power of God. 00:34:44.91\00:34:45.95 For in the Resurrection, they neither marry 00:34:45.95\00:34:47.98 nor are given in marriage, 00:34:47.98\00:34:49.22 but are like the angels of God in Heaven.'" 00:34:49.22\00:34:51.72 - Right, so it seems like in Heaven, 00:34:51.72\00:34:55.02 one of the reasons God has marriage and procreation, 00:34:55.02\00:34:57.53 He said, "Be fruitful and fill the Earth." 00:34:57.53\00:35:00.60 God wants us to have loving relationships with everybody, 00:35:00.60\00:35:04.03 but there was something unique about marriage relationships. 00:35:04.03\00:35:07.07 Now, does that mean that when Adam and Eve get to Heaven, 00:35:07.07\00:35:10.14 assuming they're both saved, 00:35:10.14\00:35:11.84 that God gives them divorce papers? 00:35:11.84\00:35:13.91 Not necessarily. 00:35:13.91\00:35:15.18 I mean, people who are married to their best friend, 00:35:15.18\00:35:17.88 what would prevent them from being best friends in Heaven? 00:35:17.88\00:35:20.98 And there are gonna be pleasures in Heaven 00:35:20.98\00:35:22.98 that will far outweigh any physical pleasure 00:35:22.98\00:35:26.32 of marital intimacy, that Paul says, 00:35:26.32\00:35:28.49 you can't even imagine the things 00:35:28.49\00:35:29.92 that God has prepared for those that love Him. 00:35:29.92\00:35:31.93 And so, no one's gonna get to Heaven 00:35:31.93\00:35:33.90 and feel like that they've lost out. 00:35:33.90\00:35:35.83 If you wanna be with your former spouse, 00:35:35.83\00:35:38.73 then, by all means. 00:35:38.73\00:35:40.80 I've often thought about when -King David will be in Heaven- 00:35:40.80\00:35:44.41 sounds like Uriah will be in Heaven. 00:35:45.54\00:35:47.04 He was a faithful soldier, worshiped God, 00:35:47.04\00:35:49.88 Bathsheba sounds like she'll be in Heaven. 00:35:49.88\00:35:53.21 And so, that's gonna be an interesting reunion 00:35:53.21\00:35:56.28 if you know the story, 00:35:56.28\00:35:57.39 'cause David had Uriah killed to take his wife, 00:35:57.39\00:35:59.69 and they're all gonna be in Heaven 00:35:59.69\00:36:01.09 'cause they all repented, and it'll be strange. 00:36:01.09\00:36:03.59 So, who's David married to? 00:36:03.59\00:36:05.03 Who's Uriah married to? 00:36:05.03\00:36:06.49 Probably, not gonna be married to anybody. 00:36:06.49\00:36:09.23 They can just be friends with their friends. 00:36:09.23\00:36:12.10 - Alright, well thanks for your call. 00:36:12.10\00:36:14.10 The Bible does say, Pastor Doug, "Eye has not seen 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.10 nor ear heard, neither is it entered into the heart of man 00:36:16.10\00:36:18.57 the things that God is preparing for those that love Him." 00:36:18.57\00:36:21.21 Sometimes you speak to young people and they think, 00:36:21.21\00:36:22.78 "Well, I don't want Jesus to come just yet. 00:36:22.78\00:36:24.55 I haven't had a chance to get married." 00:36:24.55\00:36:26.41 Well, no you won't be disappointed 00:36:26.41\00:36:27.88 when you get to Heaven, for sure. 00:36:27.88\00:36:29.18 - [Pst. Doug] That's right. 00:36:29.18\00:36:30.25 - We've got Oscar listening in New York. 00:36:30.25\00:36:32.02 Oscar, welcome to the program. 00:36:32.02\00:36:33.59 - [Oscar] Yes, sir. Thank you. 00:36:34.56\00:36:36.46 I would like to understand salvation. 00:36:36.46\00:36:39.29 I was talking to a man 00:36:39.29\00:36:40.96 and he told me that if we have a choice, 00:36:40.96\00:36:44.07 then God will not be in complete control. 00:36:44.07\00:36:46.87 So, my question is, do we have a choice, 00:36:46.87\00:36:49.90 or do we respond to God when it comes to salvation? 00:36:49.90\00:36:54.48 - Well, you absolutely have a choice, 00:36:54.48\00:36:57.15 because that's why Joshua said, 00:36:57.15\00:36:59.58 "Choose you this day, who you will serve." 00:36:59.58\00:37:03.59 And Jesus said, "Whosoever believes in Me, 00:37:03.59\00:37:08.26 shall not perish, but have everlasting life." 00:37:08.26\00:37:10.76 The only way that we can love God, 00:37:11.86\00:37:13.73 is because we have a choice. 00:37:13.73\00:37:15.10 If we are pre-programmed or forced to love God, 00:37:15.10\00:37:17.73 it stops being love. 00:37:17.73\00:37:19.07 It's just, we become robots that are just repeating, 00:37:19.07\00:37:21.77 "I love you, God. I love you God." 00:37:21.77\00:37:23.61 And it's like, we'd have no choice. 00:37:23.61\00:37:26.34 But love must be freely given. 00:37:26.34\00:37:28.81 It must be an intelligent choice. 00:37:28.81\00:37:31.21 And so, nothing is more important than the exercise 00:37:31.21\00:37:35.48 of the will, and God has given humans a free will. 00:37:35.48\00:37:38.59 So, absolutely, we can choose to follow Jesus. 00:37:38.59\00:37:41.72 Some chose yes and some chose no. 00:37:41.72\00:37:44.13 Some started out yes, and then, they changed their mind. 00:37:44.13\00:37:46.86 Some started out saying no, like the boys in the parable, 00:37:46.86\00:37:50.00 and then, one repented and said, "I will follow you. 00:37:50.00\00:37:52.70 I will do my father's will." 00:37:52.70\00:37:54.64 So, yeah, we are free moral agents that can choose. 00:37:54.64\00:37:58.34 - Yes. We mentioned the book a little earlier, 00:37:58.34\00:37:59.91 "Can a Save Man Choose to Be Lost?" 00:37:59.91\00:38:02.31 Well that deals with that same subject. 00:38:02.31\00:38:04.41 - Please order that Oscar, it's free. 00:38:04.41\00:38:06.35 - The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:38:06.35\00:38:09.52 You can ask for the book, 00:38:09.52\00:38:10.59 "Can a Saved Man Choose to Be Lost?" 00:38:10.59\00:38:12.55 And it deals with the subject of predestination. 00:38:12.55\00:38:14.99 What does the Bible teach on that? 00:38:14.99\00:38:17.16 We've got Kelly listening in Utah. 00:38:17.16\00:38:18.73 Kelly, welcome to the program. 00:38:18.73\00:38:20.33 - [Kelly] Yes. Thank you. 00:38:20.33\00:38:21.60 I have a question that has to do with two Bible verses. 00:38:22.96\00:38:26.74 The first one is Psalm 5: 4 that says, 00:38:26.74\00:38:31.47 "For Thou art not a God that has pleasure and wickedness; 00:38:31.47\00:38:35.58 neither shall evil dwell with Thee. 00:38:35.58\00:38:37.78 And then, I'm looking at Job 2 where it says, 00:38:38.88\00:38:43.69 "Once again, the sons of God came to present themselves 00:38:45.05\00:38:46.76 before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. 00:38:46.76\00:38:49.72 And the Lord said to Satan, 'Whence do you come?' 00:38:49.72\00:38:53.19 And Satan answered the Lord and said, 00:38:53.19\00:38:55.53 'From roaming the Earth and patrolling it.'" 00:38:55.53\00:38:58.23 I'm just wondering, how is Satan able 00:38:58.23\00:39:02.07 to be in the presence of God if he's evil? 00:39:02.07\00:39:07.14 - Yeah, especially after you read Psalm 5: 4. 00:39:09.01\00:39:14.08 Well, I don't think that the devil 00:39:15.22\00:39:16.95 abides in the presence of God. 00:39:16.95\00:39:18.92 I don't think the devil enjoys the presence of God. 00:39:18.92\00:39:21.52 The Bible tells us that Satan 00:39:21.52\00:39:23.02 claims to be the prince of this world. 00:39:23.02\00:39:25.19 Of course, we know that the devil 00:39:25.19\00:39:26.56 was in the presence of Jesus when he came to tempt Him. 00:39:26.56\00:39:29.43 And we know there was a war in Heaven 00:39:29.43\00:39:31.23 where Michael and His angels 00:39:31.23\00:39:33.17 threw out the devil and his angels. 00:39:33.17\00:39:35.77 But Satan has claimed this world 00:39:35.77\00:39:37.44 because Adam and Eve surrendered dominion 00:39:37.44\00:39:39.64 when they chose to obey the devil. 00:39:39.64\00:39:41.44 And so, whenever these Heavenly leaders get together, 00:39:41.44\00:39:44.85 as you have in Revelation 5, 00:39:44.85\00:39:47.58 and in the book of Job 1 00:39:47.58\00:39:49.85 I think it's Job 1 and 2, 00:39:49.85\00:39:52.02 that Satan comes saying, he's a representative of the Earth. 00:39:52.02\00:39:55.76 I don't think he abides in Heaven. 00:39:55.76\00:39:57.13 I don't know how close he gets to God's presence, 00:39:57.13\00:39:59.36 but he comes close enough to make accusations. 00:39:59.36\00:40:02.60 So, I don't know if that's answering your question, Kelly. 00:40:02.60\00:40:05.90 Does that make sense? 00:40:05.90\00:40:07.17 - [Kelly] Yeah, it's just kind of like me, for instance, 00:40:09.50\00:40:13.17 I can't be in the presence of God because of my sin. 00:40:13.17\00:40:16.58 And I guess, I'm still able to talk to God 00:40:16.58\00:40:19.81 and stuff like that, but... 00:40:19.81\00:40:21.45 - Well, keep in mind that you and I can't, 00:40:22.55\00:40:25.02 we can't see good angels and we can't see bad angels, 00:40:25.02\00:40:27.76 unless there's a rare manifestation. 00:40:27.76\00:40:29.89 Sometimes good angels and bad angels might appear. 00:40:29.89\00:40:32.46 We're physical creatures. 00:40:33.96\00:40:35.20 We kinda lost our spiritual dimension with sin. 00:40:35.20\00:40:37.93 The devil is a spirit. 00:40:38.93\00:40:40.50 The Bible says, "We wrestle against not flesh and blood, 00:40:40.50\00:40:43.00 but spiritual powers in Heavenly places." 00:40:43.00\00:40:46.11 And so, as a spirit, and Jesus says God is spirit, 00:40:46.11\00:40:49.51 Those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth. 00:40:49.51\00:40:52.15 There's a whole different world that's going on out there 00:40:52.15\00:40:55.05 that we've kind of lost contact with. 00:40:55.05\00:40:57.55 So, it's hard for me to identify with that, 00:40:57.55\00:41:00.29 but it is different, I think for humans 00:41:00.29\00:41:02.96 than it is for angels. 00:41:02.96\00:41:04.23 - Alright. Well, thank you for your call. 00:41:05.29\00:41:07.40 We've got Linda listening in California. 00:41:07.40\00:41:09.56 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:41:09.56\00:41:11.13 - [Linda] My question is Psalms 91: 1. 00:41:12.27\00:41:14.57 It talks about the secret place of the Most High. 00:41:17.74\00:41:21.21 How do we dwell in that secret place? 00:41:23.01\00:41:24.88 What is that secret place? 00:41:24.88\00:41:26.88 - That is a good question. 00:41:27.68\00:41:29.22 I think that what it's describing here, 00:41:29.22\00:41:31.69 is the spirit-filled life. 00:41:31.69\00:41:34.39 Paul talks about those who are in Christ. 00:41:34.39\00:41:38.06 And when we surrender our lives 00:41:38.06\00:41:40.26 and we experience the new birth, 00:41:40.26\00:41:42.10 we can live lives where we are in communion with God. 00:41:42.10\00:41:45.80 We're walking with God like Enoch. 00:41:45.80\00:41:48.50 That we are living in trust. 00:41:48.50\00:41:50.27 Paul had that experience where he said, 00:41:50.27\00:41:52.47 "I've learned in whatever state I am to be content. 00:41:52.47\00:41:55.08 I'm totally in God's will. 00:41:55.08\00:41:56.88 Whatever God wants to do with me is His business. 00:41:56.88\00:41:58.61 Because I am in God," so to speak. 00:41:58.61\00:42:02.45 And so, what do you think, Pastor Ross? 00:42:02.45\00:42:03.95 What is that secret place? - Yeah, absolutely. 00:42:03.95\00:42:05.35 Well, I think it also refers to a special time 00:42:05.35\00:42:08.19 of communion with God. 00:42:08.19\00:42:10.09 We know that Jesus arose early in the morning 00:42:10.09\00:42:12.09 and He spent time in prayer. 00:42:12.09\00:42:13.50 Without a doubt, He spent time reading and studying. 00:42:13.50\00:42:16.16 And I think if we do that on a regular basis every day, 00:42:16.16\00:42:19.33 take some time, spend time in His Word, 00:42:19.33\00:42:21.74 spend time in prayer, 00:42:21.74\00:42:22.84 we are dwelling in that secret place of power, 00:42:22.84\00:42:25.94 where the Spirit of God is working 00:42:25.94\00:42:27.31 in our hearts and in our lives. 00:42:27.31\00:42:28.88 And that is a place of peace, that is a place of joy. 00:42:28.88\00:42:31.81 It becomes our fortress in a world of sin. 00:42:31.81\00:42:34.25 And that's how a person lives a victorious life. 00:42:34.25\00:42:36.62 So, I think that's also part 00:42:36.62\00:42:37.99 of dwelling in the secret place of the Most High. 00:42:37.99\00:42:41.39 - Amen. Alright, thank you. 00:42:41.39\00:42:42.62 And that's a good answer. 00:42:42.62\00:42:43.66 It's also your personal devotions, 00:42:43.66\00:42:45.56 is another way to be in that secret place. 00:42:45.56\00:42:47.83 - Next caller that we have is Tae Vision. 00:42:47.83\00:42:51.37 Tae Vision from Illinois. 00:42:51.37\00:42:52.90 Tae Vision, welcome to the program. 00:42:52.90\00:42:54.20 - I think it's Tayvion 00:42:54.20\00:42:55.10 - Tayvion? sorry. 00:42:55.10\00:42:56.81 - [Tayvion] There you go, Pastor. 00:42:56.81\00:42:57.97 - Alright. - No, you're fine. 00:42:57.97\00:43:00.68 So, essentially, my question is in regards 00:43:02.34\00:43:04.98 to Deuteronomy, not Deuteronomy. 00:43:04.98\00:43:08.05 My word, Numbers 31 verses... 00:43:08.05\00:43:12.42 Like it's the last two verses, if I remember correctly. 00:43:13.72\00:43:16.12 It was seven... 00:43:17.06\00:43:18.09 No, it was verse 18. 00:43:18.09\00:43:20.03 It's essentially regarding 00:43:24.30\00:43:25.70 into where the Israelites were to go into the land, 00:43:25.70\00:43:28.70 if I remember correctly. 00:43:28.70\00:43:30.37 And essentially, those who were committing adultery, 00:43:30.37\00:43:33.91 or who had slept with a man, they were to be killed. 00:43:33.91\00:43:37.11 And I believe it was the sons 00:43:37.11\00:43:38.61 and the males were to be killed, 00:43:38.61\00:43:40.32 but the wives were to be left alive for yourselves. 00:43:40.32\00:43:44.99 I'm quite certain, that's not like saying in a sense 00:43:46.39\00:43:49.72 that they promoted sexual slavery, 00:43:49.72\00:43:53.70 but rather, what does it mean? 00:43:53.70\00:43:57.53 - Alright. Yeah, good question. 00:43:57.53\00:43:59.10 And these are tough times, you know? 00:43:59.10\00:44:00.27 And Moses is giving a law here regarding war. 00:44:00.27\00:44:04.61 And sometimes they, when one nation 00:44:04.61\00:44:06.88 fought against another nation, 00:44:06.88\00:44:08.91 they didn't wanna keep fighting that battle, 00:44:08.91\00:44:10.55 they would annihilate them. 00:44:10.55\00:44:11.98 But God told Moses, He said, 00:44:13.11\00:44:14.78 "Look, if you go to war with your enemy, 00:44:14.78\00:44:18.62 the boys might grow up and want vengeance." 00:44:19.72\00:44:22.59 Everyone believed that you had a blood feud forever 00:44:22.59\00:44:26.46 if your parents or grandparents were killed by a nation, 00:44:26.46\00:44:28.90 they were forever your enemies. 00:44:28.90\00:44:30.57 So they would often annihilate 00:44:30.57\00:44:32.13 all the soldiers and the males, 00:44:32.13\00:44:34.40 and the women who were married. 00:44:34.40\00:44:36.50 But he young ladies that were not married, 00:44:36.50\00:44:40.84 they could be eligible to be saved and be wives in Israel. 00:44:40.84\00:44:45.91 They were treated with the respect of wives. 00:44:47.05\00:44:48.42 They were not treated like sex slaves, as you said. 00:44:48.42\00:44:51.55 So, that was the kind of, 00:44:51.55\00:44:55.92 some of the barbaric, 00:44:55.92\00:44:57.76 barbaric times 00:44:57.76\00:44:59.89 in which they lived. 00:44:59.89\00:45:01.03 - Mm-hmm, and, of course, part of it, 00:45:01.03\00:45:02.36 as you mentioned, Pastor Doug, is in order for Israel 00:45:02.36\00:45:05.20 to preserve a true faith and true worship, 00:45:05.20\00:45:08.84 they had to limit the influence that the pagan nations 00:45:08.84\00:45:12.37 around them would have on them. 00:45:12.37\00:45:14.21 And if there was not this type of cleansing of the land. 00:45:14.21\00:45:19.11 And, of course, even though that happened, 00:45:19.11\00:45:20.82 we still see Israel drifting back into idolatry 00:45:20.82\00:45:23.45 and following the customs of the pagan nations. 00:45:23.45\00:45:25.82 It would've been so much worse 00:45:25.82\00:45:27.42 if they had allowed those nations to remain. 00:45:27.42\00:45:30.03 - Yeah, and one more thing in that verse 00:45:30.03\00:45:31.83 that you're asking about. 00:45:31.83\00:45:33.70 This is dealing with a battle against the Moabites. 00:45:33.70\00:45:37.53 And the Moabite women had gone in among the men 00:45:37.53\00:45:41.10 to seduce them into idolatry. 00:45:41.10\00:45:43.54 And if you look a little earlier, 00:45:43.54\00:45:45.14 Moses says in verse 16, 00:45:45.14\00:45:46.78 "Look, these women caused the children of Israel 00:45:46.78\00:45:49.48 through the council of Balaam, 00:45:49.48\00:45:50.81 to trespass against the Lord in the incident of Peor, 00:45:50.81\00:45:54.52 where there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. 00:45:54.52\00:45:57.35 Now, kill every male among the little ones 00:45:57.35\00:45:59.82 and kill every woman who's known a man." 00:45:59.82\00:46:01.49 'Cause some of those women who had gone into seduce the men 00:46:01.49\00:46:05.26 and lead them into idolatry. 00:46:05.26\00:46:07.03 But he said, you can spare the maidens 00:46:07.03\00:46:09.50 that were un-betrothed. 00:46:09.50\00:46:11.33 So, this was connected with an actual event 00:46:11.33\00:46:14.84 where those women had seduced the men of Israel into sin. 00:46:14.84\00:46:18.34 - Alright. Thanks for your call. 00:46:19.14\00:46:20.48 We've got Charles listening in Somerset, California. 00:46:20.48\00:46:23.01 Charles, welcome to the program. 00:46:23.01\00:46:24.68 - [Charles] Hey, great talking to you guys. 00:46:25.88\00:46:28.22 - Yeah, thanks for calling. 00:46:28.22\00:46:29.65 - [Charles] I was wondering where the authority 00:46:30.92\00:46:33.39 comes from to use the day-year principle in Daniel 8: 14 00:46:33.39\00:46:38.03 when the original Hebrew word "Yom," 00:46:38.03\00:46:41.63 Strong's Number 317, 00:46:41.63\00:46:44.87 or "day" is not in that text. 00:46:44.87\00:46:48.00 That for your audience is the word used 00:46:48.00\00:46:51.47 in Numbers and Ezekiel, 00:46:51.47\00:46:53.21 which God allows to be translated into years, 00:46:53.21\00:46:55.58 but it's not in Daniel 8: 14. 00:46:55.58\00:46:58.21 - Yup. Let's talk about it. 00:46:58.21\00:46:59.75 Now, this is a prophecy about the 2,300 days, 00:47:00.92\00:47:05.59 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. 00:47:05.59\00:47:07.99 And in some places it says 2000 evenings and mornings. 00:47:07.99\00:47:12.23 And it's talking about the Day of Atonement. 00:47:12.23\00:47:14.56 Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, 00:47:14.56\00:47:16.70 they had this special ceremony. 00:47:16.70\00:47:18.73 So, whether you say you apply 00:47:18.73\00:47:21.24 the day-for-the-year principle, 00:47:21.24\00:47:24.21 that would be 2,300 years. 00:47:24.21\00:47:26.07 Or if you say, 2,300 Days of Atonement. 00:47:26.07\00:47:30.71 Well, the Day of Atonement only came once a year. 00:47:30.71\00:47:33.01 So, you're saying 2,300 days of atonement, 00:47:33.01\00:47:35.55 that's 2,300 years. 00:47:35.55\00:47:37.15 You end up with the same answer either way. 00:47:37.15\00:47:41.66 Or maybe, Pastor Ross has something to add. 00:47:41.66\00:47:43.59 - Yeah, the actual expression itself 00:47:43.59\00:47:45.66 literally translated as evening, morning, 00:47:45.66\00:47:48.50 or evenings mornings. 00:47:48.50\00:47:50.20 Well, there's only one morning and one evening every day. 00:47:50.20\00:47:53.64 So, if there's 2300 evening, and 2300 mornings, 00:47:53.64\00:47:58.31 well, that would mean there's 2300 days. 00:47:58.31\00:48:00.48 We also see a very similar description in Genesis. 00:48:00.48\00:48:04.68 The evening and the morning with the first day. 00:48:04.68\00:48:06.51 - Right. - The same kind of idea. 00:48:06.51\00:48:07.85 So, there's a clear connection 00:48:07.85\00:48:08.95 between the word evening-mornings 00:48:08.95\00:48:11.05 to an actual 24-hour period or a day. 00:48:11.05\00:48:13.42 - Yeah, and for the Jews, they had in a day, 00:48:13.42\00:48:15.89 they would have the morning and the evening sacrifice, 00:48:15.89\00:48:18.23 so it's describing a day. 00:48:18.23\00:48:20.53 - And it's connected with the Sanctuary. 00:48:20.53\00:48:21.86 - Either way, whether you say it's 2300 days of atonement, 00:48:21.86\00:48:24.70 or 2300 days, and a days a year in prophecy, the prophecy... 00:48:24.70\00:48:29.30 And the other thing is, it only works that way. 00:48:29.30\00:48:33.21 If you say that the 2300-day prophecy in Daniel 8: 14, 00:48:33.21\00:48:38.28 if there are literal days, 00:48:39.35\00:48:41.82 2,300 days, doesn't reach to any event 00:48:42.92\00:48:46.12 that fills the prophecy. 00:48:46.12\00:48:47.92 But if you do 2,300 years, it certainly does. 00:48:47.92\00:48:51.33 So, it also fits, that's one more argument. 00:48:51.33\00:48:54.20 - Right. Right. 00:48:54.20\00:48:55.23 And we see some consistency throughout 00:48:55.23\00:48:56.80 these various numbers in the Book of Daniel 00:48:56.80\00:48:59.23 referring to one prophetic days 00:48:59.23\00:49:00.67 you get the one literal year. 00:49:00.67\00:49:01.57 - Yeah. - Also, in Revelation. 00:49:01.57\00:49:03.64 Alright. Thanks for your call. 00:49:03.64\00:49:04.61 We got Linda listening in Arizona. 00:49:04.61\00:49:06.81 Linda, welcome to the program. 00:49:06.81\00:49:08.38 - [Linda] I am conflicted, 00:49:09.58\00:49:11.15 concerning Romans 7: 19-25. 00:49:12.21\00:49:16.15 And I associate it with self-sabotage. 00:49:17.25\00:49:20.99 And it was when Paul was speaking, 00:49:20.99\00:49:24.89 because I have been filled with the Holy Spirit, 00:49:24.89\00:49:28.76 but I have not gained obedience. 00:49:28.76\00:49:32.90 And I have had the Holy Spirit since 2003. 00:49:32.90\00:49:36.94 And I've always struggled with that. 00:49:36.94\00:49:38.47 It's like a spiritual warfare within. 00:49:38.47\00:49:41.08 So, can you please explain Romans 7: 19-25? 00:49:41.08\00:49:45.68 - Alright, well, let me read this. 00:49:48.52\00:49:49.82 I may not be able 'cause we've only got a few minutes. 00:49:49.82\00:49:51.72 May not be able to unpack all of it, 00:49:51.72\00:49:54.02 but let me read versus 19 and 20. 00:49:54.02\00:49:56.76 "For the good that I will to do, I do not. 00:49:56.76\00:49:59.36 But the evil that I do not, that I practice. 00:49:59.36\00:50:02.10 Now, if I do that, which I will not, 00:50:02.10\00:50:04.27 it's no longer I, but sin that dwells in me. 00:50:04.27\00:50:07.10 So, I find that a law of evil is present with me. 00:50:07.10\00:50:10.17 The one who wills to do good, 00:50:10.17\00:50:11.94 for I delight in the law according to the inward man, 00:50:11.94\00:50:14.31 which I see another law at war in my members. 00:50:14.31\00:50:17.71 Making war, bringing me in captivity to the law of sin, 00:50:17.71\00:50:20.85 which is in my members." 00:50:20.85\00:50:22.22 Then he asks a question, verse 24, 00:50:22.22\00:50:24.79 "O wretched man that I am! 00:50:24.79\00:50:26.49 Who will deliver me from the body of this death?" 00:50:26.49\00:50:29.02 Talking about the lusts and the problems of the flesh, 00:50:29.02\00:50:32.09 then he answers: 00:50:32.09\00:50:33.19 "I thank God through the Lord Jesus Christ! 00:50:33.19\00:50:36.36 So then with my mind, I serve the law of God, 00:50:36.36\00:50:39.10 but with the flesh, the law of sin." 00:50:39.10\00:50:40.87 You have to read the next verse in chapter eight. 00:50:40.87\00:50:44.64 "There is now no condemnation 00:50:44.64\00:50:46.78 to those who are in Christ Jesus, 00:50:46.78\00:50:49.01 who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:50:49.01\00:50:51.85 but according to the Spirit. 00:50:51.85\00:50:53.95 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus 00:50:53.95\00:50:56.52 has made me free from the law of sin and death. 00:50:56.52\00:50:59.75 For what the law could not do, 00:50:59.75\00:51:00.92 in that it was weak through the flesh, 00:51:00.92\00:51:02.79 God did by sending His own Son 00:51:02.79\00:51:04.69 in the likeness of sinful flesh. 00:51:04.69\00:51:06.46 On account of sin, He condemned sin in the flesh 00:51:06.46\00:51:09.90 that the righteous requirement of the law 00:51:09.90\00:51:12.73 might be fulfilled in us 00:51:12.73\00:51:14.57 who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:51:14.57\00:51:17.31 but according to the Spirit." 00:51:17.31\00:51:19.21 So, when you're filled with the Holy Spirit, for one thing, 00:51:19.21\00:51:22.48 don't be discouraged thinking, 00:51:22.48\00:51:23.55 "Well, that means I'll never sin again." 00:51:23.55\00:51:25.85 One thing the Holy Spirit does, 00:51:25.85\00:51:27.18 is He convicts us of our sin. 00:51:27.18\00:51:29.82 You know, when the whole light is turned on, 00:51:29.82\00:51:31.22 sometimes there's pain and there might be a struggle 00:51:31.22\00:51:33.46 as a baby's learning to walk. 00:51:33.46\00:51:35.19 Do not be discouraged, Linda, 00:51:35.19\00:51:37.16 continue to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. 00:51:37.16\00:51:40.30 That same God who helped me give up drugs, 00:51:40.30\00:51:43.16 and drinking, and cursing, and all those other evil things- 00:51:43.16\00:51:46.94 He, who has begun a good work in you, will perform it. 00:51:46.94\00:51:49.44 It doesn't necessarily change in one day. 00:51:49.44\00:51:52.47 This is called the process of sanctification. 00:51:52.47\00:51:55.01 - Yeah, absolutely. We gain victories step by step. 00:51:55.01\00:51:58.45 And so, the Lord leads us. 00:51:58.45\00:51:59.71 And I remember there was a lady 00:51:59.71\00:52:02.02 that joined our church one time and she said, 00:52:02.02\00:52:04.09 "Before I received Christ, 00:52:04.09\00:52:05.82 I thought all I had to do was stop smoking 00:52:05.82\00:52:07.72 and I'd be perfect." 00:52:07.72\00:52:09.06 Well, God gave her victory over smoking and she realized, 00:52:09.06\00:52:11.06 "Wait, there's some other things in life 00:52:11.06\00:52:12.59 that God is leading me as well." 00:52:12.59\00:52:14.46 And so, our growth in grace is the journey. 00:52:14.46\00:52:17.40 Sanctification is the work of a lifetime. 00:52:17.40\00:52:19.40 We mustn't give up though. 00:52:19.40\00:52:20.50 We keep pressing towards the mark. 00:52:20.50\00:52:22.40 - Absolutely, and there is a battle in the Christian life, 00:52:22.40\00:52:26.44 the battles in life, no matter what. 00:52:26.44\00:52:28.78 Paul said, "We wrestle, we strive, we war, 00:52:28.78\00:52:33.05 we run, we resist." 00:52:33.05\00:52:35.52 There is some effort, 00:52:35.52\00:52:36.89 and you know you wanna do what you can to avoid temptation. 00:52:36.89\00:52:40.49 By the way, that would be a good book I think 00:52:40.49\00:52:42.02 that would be a blessing for you, Linda. 00:52:42.02\00:52:43.36 We'll send you a free book, "Tips on Resisting Temptation." 00:52:43.36\00:52:47.13 Also, talks about, how do you get the victory? 00:52:47.13\00:52:49.20 - Mm-hmm. The number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:52:49.20\00:52:53.94 And you can ask for the book, 00:52:53.94\00:52:54.90 "Tips for Resisting Temptation." 00:52:54.90\00:52:57.01 The Bible says, "A righteous man, 00:52:57.01\00:52:58.77 he might fall seven times, but he gets up." 00:52:58.77\00:53:00.91 And so, the key is not giving up. 00:53:00.91\00:53:02.48 Keep trusting, keep seeking the Lord. 00:53:02.48\00:53:04.71 All things are possible through Christ. 00:53:04.71\00:53:06.25 - Yeah, the principle that we see 00:53:06.25\00:53:09.02 the Apostles talking about, is growing in grace. 00:53:09.02\00:53:13.09 We grow in holiness, in following the Lord. 00:53:13.09\00:53:16.16 So, what you're sharing, Linda, thousands out there, 00:53:16.16\00:53:19.83 millions out there have the same struggle, you're not alone, 00:53:19.83\00:53:23.03 but you can grow in grace. 00:53:23.03\00:53:24.37 It is possible to be a new creature 00:53:24.37\00:53:26.03 where old things are passed away, and all things become new. 00:53:26.03\00:53:29.27 Alright, Pastor Ross, I don't think we have time 00:53:30.41\00:53:32.64 for another question. 00:53:32.64\00:53:35.38 - However, we do wanna remind friends. 00:53:35.38\00:53:36.88 We do have to say goodbye to those listening 00:53:36.88\00:53:39.75 on satellite radio here in just a minute and a half. 00:53:39.75\00:53:42.72 But for those of you are watching on Amazing Facts TV, 00:53:42.72\00:53:45.52 or you're listening on a land-based radio station, 00:53:45.52\00:53:48.09 we are gonna be coming back 00:53:48.09\00:53:49.16 with some rapid-fire Bible questions. 00:53:49.16\00:53:51.46 And these are the questions that you have written in 00:53:51.46\00:53:53.23 to us here at "Amazing Facts." 00:53:53.23\00:53:55.13 If you have a Bible question, 00:53:55.13\00:53:56.26 and we didn't get to it in the program tonight. 00:53:56.26\00:53:58.73 And if you are watching on social media, 00:53:58.73\00:54:00.30 you can just type your Bible question 00:54:00.30\00:54:01.90 right there on Facebook, 00:54:01.90\00:54:03.20 and we'll gather these questions together. 00:54:03.20\00:54:05.01 And next week, we'll try to answer 00:54:05.01\00:54:06.44 as many of these questions as we can 00:54:06.44\00:54:09.11 after we take a little break 00:54:09.11\00:54:10.75 that's coming up here in about a minute. 00:54:10.75\00:54:12.41 But you know Pastor Doug, we always like to remind people 00:54:12.41\00:54:14.38 that there are many resources available to them 00:54:14.38\00:54:16.79 for further study at "Amazing Facts." 00:54:16.79\00:54:19.35 - That's right. 00:54:19.35\00:54:20.49 Now, if someone wants to send in a Bible question 00:54:20.49\00:54:22.96 for next week, what's the address for that? 00:54:22.96\00:54:26.03 - It's BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:54:26.03\00:54:29.70 And I see they put that on the screen, 00:54:29.70\00:54:31.13 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:54:31.13\00:54:33.87 And you can send us your question, 00:54:33.87\00:54:35.34 and we will try and answer it on the air. 00:54:35.34\00:54:37.14 - Yeah. 00:56:26.18\00:56:28.72 And the answer would have to be a categorical "yes." 00:56:28.72\00:56:31.12 The Bible's very clear, 00:56:31.12\00:56:32.59 that's why Jesus died in our place. 00:56:32.59\00:56:34.86 - Mmh. - And so, 00:56:34.86\00:56:36.16 yeah, sometimes you've got certain crimes 00:56:36.16\00:56:39.26 that did invite the death penalty. 00:56:39.26\00:56:42.16 And the Mosaic law not only had the death penalty, 00:56:42.16\00:56:45.20 it had the mercy for different crimes. 00:56:45.20\00:56:48.04 A person might commit, 00:56:48.04\00:56:49.77 what do you call unintentional manslaughter, 00:56:49.77\00:56:51.41 and they could flee to a city of refuge. 00:56:51.41\00:56:53.34 So, there's a lot of justice in the laws 00:56:53.34\00:56:55.68 that you find God gave Moses. 00:56:55.68\00:56:57.51 - Okay, next question that we have, 00:56:57.51\00:56:59.01 is "Why is there a wall necessary around the new 00:56:59.01\00:57:02.98 Jerusalem?" - Yeah walls, people think the walls 00:57:02.98\00:57:05.19 are to keep enemy armies out, 00:57:05.19\00:57:07.76 but that's not the only purpose of walls. 00:57:07.76\00:57:09.49 You might have a wall around your house, 00:57:09.49\00:57:12.39 and it's basically a boundary. 00:57:12.39\00:57:14.36 And so, walls can also just point out the boundary, 00:57:14.36\00:57:16.97 of this is the city of God. 00:57:16.97\00:57:18.83 And there can be different rights within the wall 00:57:18.83\00:57:22.87 that you do not have outside the wall, 00:57:22.87\00:57:24.64 and this would be of cities. 00:57:24.64\00:57:26.04 We're gonna not only have a city home, Jesus built, 00:57:26.04\00:57:27.94 we're gonna have country homes outside the wall. 00:57:27.94\00:57:29.81 - And then, of course, at the end of the 1000 years 00:57:29.81\00:57:31.41 where the Jerusalem comes down, 00:57:31.41\00:57:33.15 the wicked are resurrected and they're outside the wall. 00:57:33.15\00:57:35.65 - So, they do attack a while. 00:57:35.65\00:57:36.92 - They do. - Yeah. 00:57:36.92\00:57:37.99 - They mount an attack on the city. 00:57:37.99\00:57:39.39 Okay, another question that we have, 00:57:39.39\00:57:40.76 "If we are saved by faith, why does Revelation say 00:57:40.76\00:57:43.02 that we are judged according to our works?" 00:57:43.02\00:57:45.86 - Yeah, that's not inconsistent. 00:57:45.86\00:57:47.66 Your faith will be seen in your works. 00:57:47.66\00:57:51.73 This is what James is saying in chapter two. 00:57:51.73\00:57:54.24 He said, we're saved by faith, 00:57:54.24\00:57:56.30 but if you have faith, let me see your faith. 00:57:56.30\00:57:59.37 Your faith will be demonstrated in your behavior. 00:57:59.37\00:58:01.88 And so, while we are saved by faith and by God's grace, 00:58:01.88\00:58:06.08 we're judged by our works 'cause your works after salvation 00:58:06.08\00:58:09.65 will demonstrate whether you really were saved. 00:58:09.65\00:58:12.05 Oh, you hear the music chasing us, friends. 00:58:12.05\00:58:14.39 We enjoyed this so much. 00:58:14.39\00:58:15.49 We'll look forward to studying 00:58:15.49\00:58:16.59 His Word with you again next week. 00:58:16.59\00:58:18.49 God bless you. 00:58:18.49\00:58:19.53 (uplifting/ bright music) 00:58:19.53\00:58:20.56 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live," 00:58:20.56\00:58:22.26 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.26\00:58:26.17 (uplifting/ btight music) 00:58:26.17\00:58:29.07
