00:00:00.66\00:00:03.20
- [Announcer] It is the
best-selling book in history.
00:00:03.20\00:00:05.80
No volume ever written has
been more loved and quoted,
00:00:05.80\00:00:09.87
and its words, sometimes
simple and sometimes mysterious
00:00:09.87\00:00:13.84
should always be
studied carefully.
00:00:13.84\00:00:16.64
It is the
Bible, the Word of God.

00:00:39.87\00:00:44.14
Now, here's your host from
Amazing Facts International,
00:00:45.61\00:00:48.31
Pastor Doug Batchelor.
00:00:48.31\00:00:50.35
- Hello, friends.
00:00:50.35\00:00:51.58
Would you like to
hear an amazing fact?
00:00:51.58\00:00:54.48
A 22-year-old Kenyan man was
found alive in the wheel well
00:00:54.48\00:00:58.75
of a Dutch cargo
plane that had traveled
00:00:58.75\00:01:00.86
from Johannesburg, South
Africa to the Netherlands.
00:01:00.86\00:01:04.09
Police say, on
January 22nd, 2022
00:01:04.09\00:01:07.40
the stowaway whose
identity was not released,
00:01:07.40\00:01:10.20
was discovered hiding
after the plane touched down
00:01:10.20\00:01:12.80
at the Schiphol
Airport in Amsterdam.
00:01:12.80\00:01:15.40
The plane made
a stop in Nairobi,
00:01:15.40\00:01:17.11
which is where it's
believed the man climbed
00:01:17.11\00:01:18.84
into the front wheel well.
00:01:18.84\00:01:20.64
Officials say it is
miraculous that he's alive.
00:01:20.64\00:01:23.78
Records indicate the
Boeing 747 cargo jet flew
00:01:23.78\00:01:27.62
above 30,000 feet for most
of the 11-hour leg of the flight
00:01:27.62\00:01:31.35
where the air
temperature can drop
00:01:31.35\00:01:32.79
to more than 40
degrees below zero.
00:01:32.79\00:01:35.52
The wheel wells in
these aircraft have no heat
00:01:35.52\00:01:38.26
and they're unpressurized,
00:01:38.26\00:01:40.00
oxygen levels would be
thinner than the summit
00:01:40.00\00:01:42.63
of Mount Everest.
00:01:42.63\00:01:44.17
Police said the
man who has applied
00:01:44.17\00:01:45.83
for asylum is doing well
considering the circumstances
00:01:45.83\00:01:49.37
and he was taken to a hospital.
00:01:49.37\00:01:51.41
You know, friends,
it's amazing the risks
00:01:51.41\00:01:53.41
that people will take
looking for a better country.
00:01:53.41\00:01:57.25
- Absolutely, Pastor Doug.
00:01:57.25\00:01:58.51
It's an amazing
fact, amazing story this,
00:01:58.51\00:02:00.85
that this young man, 22,
was able to spend that much time
00:02:00.85\00:02:04.59
that high, that
cold in the plane,
00:02:04.59\00:02:07.06
in the wheel well of
the plane and still survive.
00:02:07.06\00:02:09.46
Unfortunately, there are a
number of stories of people
00:02:09.46\00:02:11.46
that tried the same
thing and did not survive.
00:02:11.46\00:02:13.83
That seems to be
the more common outcome,
00:02:13.83\00:02:16.13
so really, it almost
seems like a miracle is involved
00:02:16.13\00:02:18.50
in preserving this man's life.
00:02:18.50\00:02:19.80
- Yeah, it's incredible.
00:02:19.80\00:02:20.94
And they're still doing
some research, you know,
00:02:20.94\00:02:22.90
into exactly what happened.
00:02:22.90\00:02:24.21
But I'm a pilot,
00:02:24.21\00:02:25.91
and I know once
you get to 14,000 feet,
00:02:25.91\00:02:27.71
you're supposed to
have supplemental oxygen.
00:02:27.71\00:02:29.68
Here he was at
30,000 feet for 11 hours,
00:02:29.68\00:02:33.48
and you know, even the
folks that climb Mount Everest,
00:02:33.48\00:02:37.59
they need oxygen at 28,000 feet,
00:02:37.59\00:02:40.12
and the temperature, just
at least 40 degrees below zero.
00:02:40.12\00:02:45.19
And so, it's just incredible
00:02:45.99\00:02:47.56
and I'm looking forward to
hearing more about that story
00:02:47.56\00:02:50.27
and how it ends,
but it tells you about
00:02:50.27\00:02:53.03
how they were
seeking a better country
00:02:53.03\00:02:56.37
and the risks that
a person would take.
00:02:56.37\00:02:58.81
Makes me think of
that verse in the Bible
00:02:58.81\00:03:00.31
you find in Hebrews 11
talking about the faithful
00:03:00.31\00:03:04.61
and it says, "For
those who say such things,"
00:03:04.61\00:03:06.82
and this is
verse 14 of Hebrews 11,
00:03:06.82\00:03:08.98
"Those who say such
things declare plainly
00:03:08.98\00:03:11.05
that they seek a homeland.
00:03:11.05\00:03:12.82
And truly if they
had called to mind
00:03:12.82\00:03:14.56
the country from
which they had come out,
00:03:14.56\00:03:16.39
they would have had
an opportunity to return.
00:03:16.39\00:03:18.83
But now they desire a better,
that is a heavenly country.
00:03:18.83\00:03:22.96
Therefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God,
00:03:22.96\00:03:26.13
for He's
prepared a city for them."
00:03:26.13\00:03:29.24
And the Bible tells us that,
00:03:29.24\00:03:31.11
the story of Scripture is
really people trying to get
00:03:31.11\00:03:33.41
from the slavery of
Egypt to the Promised Land,
00:03:33.41\00:03:37.41
or the captivity of
Babylon to the Promised Land,
00:03:37.41\00:03:40.18
they're looking for
that better country.
00:03:40.18\00:03:42.28
And this is the
story of salvation.
00:03:42.28\00:03:43.75
God is trying to
save us from the captivity
00:03:43.75\00:03:46.12
and slavery of the devil and
take us to the New Jerusalem.
00:03:46.12\00:03:51.19
- You know, Pastor Doug,
00:03:51.86\00:03:52.99
you're looking
at examples of folks
00:03:52.99\00:03:54.40
who have gone
through incredible ordeals
00:03:54.40\00:03:56.36
to try and find freedom,
to get to a better land.
00:03:56.36\00:03:59.07
Of course, this is
one story you mentioned,
00:03:59.07\00:04:00.47
but I'm sure
there are many stories
00:04:00.47\00:04:02.00
of what people have risked.
00:04:02.00\00:04:03.57
Shouldn't we be that determined
00:04:03.57\00:04:05.94
and that committed to
seek that heavenly country
00:04:05.94\00:04:08.18
that the Bible speaks of
00:04:08.18\00:04:09.31
so much better
than any earthly country
00:04:09.31\00:04:11.38
than anyone can have?
00:04:11.38\00:04:13.01
Well, we do have a study guide
00:04:13.01\00:04:14.08
that talks about
this heavenly country,
00:04:14.08\00:04:15.85
it's called a
"Colossal City in Space,"
00:04:15.85\00:04:17.92
and this is our
free offer this evening.
00:04:17.92\00:04:19.72

That is a
"Colossal City in Space."
00:04:28.36\00:04:30.60
It's all about Heaven,
it's the home of the Redeemed,
00:04:30.60\00:04:33.23
it's that better
country that we read about
00:04:33.23\00:04:35.64
in the Book of Hebrews,
00:04:35.64\00:04:37.04
so we wanna encourage you
to take advantage of that.
00:04:37.04\00:04:38.94
If you're
outside of North America,
00:04:38.94\00:04:40.74

to read that study guide.
00:04:45.51\00:04:46.85
You can actually enroll in
our free online Bible school,
00:04:46.85\00:04:50.19

00:04:50.19\00:04:51.82
but all of the
lessons that we have
00:04:51.82\00:04:53.99
in our Amazing Facts series.
00:04:53.99\00:04:55.72
Well, Pastor Doug, before
we get to the phone lines,
00:04:55.72\00:04:57.56
let's start with
the word of prayer.
00:04:57.56\00:04:59.06
Dear Father, we
thank you once again
00:04:59.06\00:05:00.86
that we have this opportunity
00:05:00.86\00:05:01.96
to open up your Word and study,
00:05:01.96\00:05:04.13
and Lord, we
always want to make sure
00:05:04.13\00:05:05.87
that we're seeking the
Holy Spirit to guide us
00:05:05.87\00:05:08.80
in our study of your Word.
00:05:08.80\00:05:10.17
It's your book and we want
to rightfully understand it.
00:05:10.17\00:05:12.51
Be with those who are listening
wherever they might be.
00:05:12.51\00:05:14.44
And we ask this in Jesus' name.
00:05:14.44\00:05:16.14
Amen.
00:05:16.14\00:05:16.98
- Amen.
00:05:16.98\00:05:18.45
- Alright well,
we've got a number of folks
00:05:18.45\00:05:19.78
who are waiting online.
00:05:19.78\00:05:20.88
And again, good evening, friends
00:05:20.88\00:05:22.12
and welcome to
"Bible Answers Live."
00:05:22.12\00:05:24.22
Now, of course,
there's people, Pastor Doug,
00:05:24.22\00:05:25.65
listening to us on the radio,
00:05:25.65\00:05:26.92
but we're also live
streaming this on Facebook,

00:05:35.16\00:05:38.93
- That's right.
00:05:38.93\00:05:40.30
And if people wanna call
in, we still have lines open.
00:05:40.30\00:05:42.10
If you're calling, the
number is 800-GOD-SAYS,
00:05:42.10\00:05:45.61
800-463-7297 with
your Bible questions,
00:05:45.61\00:05:49.74
and there's still plenty
of time to get your question
00:05:49.74\00:05:51.98
on tonight's program.
00:05:51.98\00:05:53.62
- Alright, our
first caller tonight
00:05:53.62\00:05:54.78
is Lawrence
listening from Oregon.
00:05:54.78\00:05:56.92
Lawrence,
welcome to the program.
00:05:56.92\00:05:58.65
- [Lawrence] My question is,
00:05:59.45\00:06:00.66
I have really
lots of health problem
00:06:00.66\00:06:04.49
and I'm going through some
really bad financial crisis.
00:06:04.49\00:06:08.30
I just wanna know from the Bible
00:06:08.30\00:06:11.27
what will be the
best way to look into it
00:06:11.27\00:06:15.50
and how to solve this financial
problem I'm going through?
00:06:15.50\00:06:19.57
Probably, it's not just me,
00:06:19.57\00:06:21.68
around the the world, you
know, there are situations,
00:06:21.68\00:06:24.21
but I don't have
enough knowledge, you know,
00:06:24.21\00:06:27.82
of how to find guidance
00:06:27.82\00:06:30.05
and to achieve
this financial crisis
00:06:30.05\00:06:34.02
that I'm going
through right now.
00:06:34.02\00:06:38.19
- Yeah, well there are a
lot of principles in the Bible
00:06:38.19\00:06:41.43
that talk about finances.
00:06:41.43\00:06:43.77
In fact, I think somebody
said that 20% of the parables
00:06:43.77\00:06:48.20
and the teachings of
Jesus are related to finances.
00:06:48.20\00:06:52.47
And several of His parables
where the landowner gives out
00:06:52.47\00:06:56.51
the different talents
to the different servants
00:06:56.51\00:06:58.61
and He talks about, you
know, faithfully investing
00:06:58.61\00:07:01.18
those things.
00:07:01.18\00:07:02.48
And, you know, of course
these lessons are all compared
00:07:02.48\00:07:05.55
with the kingdom of God.
00:07:05.55\00:07:06.89
So the first
thing Jesus tells us is
00:07:06.89\00:07:08.92
to seek first His kingdom,
make His kingdom a priority,
00:07:08.92\00:07:13.23
and then it says all
the other things you need,
00:07:13.23\00:07:15.66
what shall I eat, what shall
I drink, what shall I wear?
00:07:15.66\00:07:18.60
The Lord tells
us, "Don't worry."
00:07:18.60\00:07:20.94
God doesn't want us to
live at the state of worry.
00:07:20.94\00:07:23.81
And if we're faithful in
following the principles,
00:07:23.81\00:07:26.47
He promises to take care of us.
00:07:26.47\00:07:28.71
And there's that
verse that says in Psalms,
00:07:28.71\00:07:32.08
"I was once
young and I'm now old
00:07:32.08\00:07:33.92
and I've not seen
God's people forsaken
00:07:33.92\00:07:36.18
or His seed begging bread."
00:07:36.18\00:07:38.32
So as far as
specific financial advice,
00:07:38.32\00:07:41.06
there are a lot of
parables or Proverbs
00:07:41.06\00:07:43.39
that give some advice on
faithfulness and diligence
00:07:43.39\00:07:47.40
in investing
and even generosity.
00:07:47.40\00:07:51.03
You know, we have a lesson that
talks about Bible principles
00:07:52.37\00:07:55.44
and finances that will direct
you to those many Scriptures,
00:07:55.44\00:07:58.54
'cause we can't share
all of them right here.
00:07:58.54\00:08:00.31
- Yeah, the lesson is
called "In God We Trust."
00:08:00.31\00:08:02.61
and it lays out a number
of biblical principles dealing
00:08:02.61\00:08:05.68
with stewardship and finance
00:08:05.68\00:08:07.22
and what are the
principles that we find
00:08:07.22\00:08:09.35
in the Bible about
managing our money.
00:08:09.35\00:08:11.42
So we'll be happy to send this
to anyone who calls and asks.
00:08:11.42\00:08:14.32
The number for
that is 800-835-6747
00:08:14.32\00:08:18.89
and you can ask the study guide,
00:08:18.89\00:08:20.16
it's called, "In God We Trust."
00:08:20.16\00:08:22.20
And you'll be blessed
by reading that, Lawrence,
00:08:22.20\00:08:24.40
or anybody who's out there.
00:08:24.40\00:08:26.03
If you're
outside of North America,
00:08:26.03\00:08:27.34
you can also
read it by just going
00:08:27.34\00:08:29.14
to our Amazing Facts website,
just amazingfacts.org or .com.
00:08:29.14\00:08:34.21
Next caller that we
have is Sharonne, I guess,
00:08:35.31\00:08:38.05
or Sharon listening from Texas.
00:08:38.05\00:08:40.12
- [Sharyn] Thank you,
thank you for having me.
00:08:40.12\00:08:43.12
My question today is, I'm
reading in the Book of Acts,
00:08:43.12\00:08:47.46
Acts 9 where Saul
who later became Paul,
00:08:47.46\00:08:51.29
the story's being
described, what happened to him,
00:08:53.50\00:08:55.66
how he fell and
Jesus was talking to him,
00:08:55.66\00:09:00.74
you know, asking him why
are you persecuting me and that?
00:09:02.14\00:09:03.71
When it gets to
verse 7, it says,
00:09:03.71\00:09:07.78
"And the men who journeyed
with Him stood speechless,
00:09:07.78\00:09:12.85
hearing a voice,
but seeing no one."
00:09:13.92\00:09:17.32
Well, that's just part of it.
00:09:17.32\00:09:18.69
But then I went on, I was
continuing reading in Acts,
00:09:18.69\00:09:21.92
and when I got to chapter 22,
00:09:21.92\00:09:24.59
and now it was Saul
himself who was describing
00:09:24.59\00:09:29.16
his experience that day and all.
00:09:29.16\00:09:31.70
And when I got down
to verse 9, it says,
00:09:31.70\00:09:36.77
"And those who were,"
00:09:38.17\00:09:39.64
this is him speaking.
00:09:39.64\00:09:41.08
"And those who were
with me indeed saw a light
00:09:41.08\00:09:46.15
and were afraid but
they did not hear the voice
00:09:47.25\00:09:50.69
of Him who spoke to me."
00:09:50.69\00:09:52.35
So what I'm wanting
to know is, in Acts 9:7,
00:09:52.35\00:09:56.29
they heard but saw nothing,
00:09:56.29\00:09:58.89
and then in
chapter 22:9, then it says,
00:09:58.89\00:10:03.10
"They saw, but
they did not hear."
00:10:03.10\00:10:05.47
It's just total,
00:10:05.47\00:10:07.14
like it's contradicting.
- Seems like contradict.
00:10:07.14\00:10:08.54
Yeah well, keep in
mind, the good news is
00:10:08.54\00:10:10.81
the Book of Acts was
written by the same man.
00:10:10.81\00:10:12.57
So it's not like two
different authors disagreeing,
00:10:12.57\00:10:14.78
Luke wrote both accounts.
00:10:14.78\00:10:17.61
And in the Greek,
when you get to Acts 22,
00:10:17.61\00:10:20.95
the word, here, is also
similar to the word, understand.
00:10:20.95\00:10:25.39
So the way that I
think you could look at
00:10:25.39\00:10:28.06
these two verses where it seems
00:10:28.06\00:10:29.16
like there's an
apparent conflict,
00:10:29.16\00:10:30.26
one time it says
they heard a voice
00:10:30.26\00:10:32.06
then it says they
didn't hear a voice.
00:10:32.06\00:10:34.66
In Acts 22, it's really saying,
00:10:34.66\00:10:37.30
they didn't understand the
voice, but it's something like,
00:10:37.30\00:10:41.24
in John, the Bible
says that there was a voice
00:10:41.24\00:10:43.77
that says, "This
in my beloved Son,"
00:10:43.77\00:10:45.47
and some people heard the voice,
00:10:45.47\00:10:46.94
but they thought it was thunder,
they didn't understand it.
00:10:46.94\00:10:49.34
So, evidently they heard
a noise, they heard a voice,
00:10:49.34\00:10:51.95
but they didn't
know what it was saying.
00:10:51.95\00:10:54.08
And that's why Paul,
when sharing this account,
00:10:54.08\00:10:56.42
or Luke I should
say, sharing this account,
00:10:56.42\00:10:57.99
in one place he says,
"Yeah, they heard a voice,
00:10:57.99\00:11:00.39
they know that
somebody spoke to 'em,"
00:11:00.39\00:11:01.82
but when you get
to Acts 22, it says
00:11:01.82\00:11:04.19
they don't know what the
voice was saying to Paul,
00:11:04.19\00:11:06.29
only Paul
understood the voice of Jesus.
00:11:06.29\00:11:08.36
Does that make sense?
00:11:09.36\00:11:10.47
- [Sharyn] It does
make sense in that point,
00:11:11.53\00:11:13.20
the way you described it,
00:11:13.20\00:11:14.20
but then it also talks about
00:11:14.20\00:11:16.07
how the first one
didn't see anything,
00:11:16.07\00:11:18.77
and the second
one, they did see it.
00:11:19.84\00:11:22.41
You know, is
that the same thing?
00:11:22.41\00:11:24.08
- Well, I think
they saw the light,
00:11:24.08\00:11:25.41
they saw the glory,
but I think Paul saw Jesus,
00:11:25.41\00:11:28.65
and they didn't.
00:11:28.65\00:11:29.72
He was struck
blind by what he saw,
00:11:29.72\00:11:31.59
they obviously
didn't see the same thing,
00:11:31.59\00:11:33.22
the light did not blind them,
00:11:33.22\00:11:34.96
but I think they
saw some glory appeared.
00:11:34.96\00:11:37.69
So it's almost like
they got a vision secondhand,
00:11:37.69\00:11:40.76
you know, they heard a
noise and they saw a light,
00:11:40.76\00:11:42.90
Paul's the one who
really understood the words
00:11:42.90\00:11:44.77
and saw the face.
00:11:44.77\00:11:46.77
- [Sharyn] Okay.
00:11:46.77\00:11:47.74
- But yeah, good questions.
00:11:47.74\00:11:49.24
Yeah, thanks so much, Sharyn,
appreciate your question.
00:11:49.24\00:11:51.81
- Alright, we've got
Diana listening from Washington.
00:11:51.81\00:11:54.51
Dianna, welcome to the program.
00:11:54.51\00:11:55.98
- [Dianna] Hi, Pastor.
00:11:57.05\00:11:57.88
Thank you for having me.
00:11:57.88\00:11:59.58
My question is if my
family does not believe
00:11:59.58\00:12:02.38
in the 10 commandments,
00:12:02.38\00:12:03.75
or they believe in
them, believed in them,
00:12:03.75\00:12:08.12
but they don't believe
that we are to honor them today,
00:12:08.12\00:12:11.59
say that the
law died with Jesus.
00:12:11.59\00:12:14.03
And how would I
witness to them over something
00:12:14.03\00:12:17.33
that was so drilled into
all of our heads for so long?
00:12:17.33\00:12:22.40
- Yeah, that's a
challenge, you know,
00:12:23.47\00:12:24.47
and I'm
understanding you're saying
00:12:24.47\00:12:26.61
that they're
Christians, is that right?
00:12:26.61\00:12:29.54
- [Dianna] Yes, yes, uh-huh.
00:12:29.54\00:12:31.58
- Yeah, so it's phenomenal to me
00:12:31.58\00:12:33.75
that Christians would be saying,
00:12:33.75\00:12:35.98
"Yeah, we believe in Jesus,
00:12:37.19\00:12:38.75
but we don't need to
keep the 10 commandments."
00:12:38.75\00:12:41.52
Because in reality, I'll
tell you what the issue is.
00:12:41.52\00:12:44.83
You could go to 90% of
the churches in North America
00:12:44.83\00:12:48.03
and you could preach on
commandments 1 through 3,
00:12:48.03\00:12:52.60
and 5 through 10 and
they would say, "Amen."
00:12:52.60\00:12:55.60
But when you
preach on commandment 4,
00:12:56.81\00:12:59.64
which is about the
Sabbath, then they say,
00:12:59.64\00:13:00.94
"Oh, we're no
longer under the law."
00:13:00.94\00:13:02.98
Now, there is one church,
00:13:02.98\00:13:04.05
they don't like when
you talk about idolatry,
00:13:04.05\00:13:06.38
a couple of churches
maybe that don't like that,
00:13:06.38\00:13:08.42
but otherwise most
Christians have no problems
00:13:08.42\00:13:10.85
with the law.
00:13:10.85\00:13:12.15
They all believe, don't
commit adultery, don't steal,
00:13:12.15\00:13:13.25
don't kill, don't
dishonor God's name.
00:13:13.25\00:13:16.73
I know 'cause I've preached
in many of these churches,
00:13:16.73\00:13:19.59
but when they
hear the Sabbath truth
00:13:19.59\00:13:21.30
and then they realize
00:13:21.30\00:13:22.76
that the seventh day
is Saturday, not Sunday,
00:13:22.76\00:13:24.67
a lot of folks start to
get nervous and they say,
00:13:24.67\00:13:26.74
"How do we deal with this?
00:13:26.74\00:13:27.87
It's obviously part
of the 10 commandments."
00:13:27.87\00:13:29.74
And so they say, "Well,
we're not under the law."
00:13:29.74\00:13:33.14
And you say, "Well, what
about the other commandments?"
00:13:33.14\00:13:34.48
"Well, they've been reattached."
00:13:34.48\00:13:37.01
And it's kinda like a
person that has one finger
00:13:37.01\00:13:38.98
that's bothering 'em
so they cut off all ten
00:13:38.98\00:13:41.68
and then sew nine of 'em back
on to try to get rid of one.
00:13:41.68\00:13:45.22
It just doesn't make sense.
00:13:45.22\00:13:47.12
And the solution of
course is keep all 10.
00:13:47.12\00:13:49.22
That was God's plan.
00:13:49.22\00:13:50.26
Especially the one
commandment that begins
00:13:50.26\00:13:52.13
with the word, "Remember,"
00:13:52.13\00:13:53.93
would not be the
commandment you'd get rid of.
00:13:53.93\00:13:56.43
So now we have a book
that talks about this,
00:13:56.43\00:13:58.20
"Does God's Grace
Blot out the Law?"
00:13:58.20\00:14:01.10
- And we'll be
happy to send that
00:14:01.10\00:14:02.14
to anyone who calls and asks.
00:14:02.14\00:14:03.94
The number to
call is 800-835-6747
00:14:03.94\00:14:07.24
and you can ask for
the book, it's called,
00:14:07.24\00:14:08.38
"Does God's Grace
Blot out the Law?"
00:14:08.38\00:14:10.65
And it answers that question of,
00:14:10.65\00:14:12.18
you know, under
the new covenant,
00:14:12.18\00:14:13.78
do we still need to
keep the 10 commandments?
00:14:13.78\00:14:15.95
It'll look at a
number of Scriptures.
00:14:15.95\00:14:17.72
Again, the book is called,
00:14:17.72\00:14:18.85
"Does God's Grace
Blot out the Law?"
00:14:18.85\00:14:20.76
And the number for
that is 800-835-6747,
00:14:20.76\00:14:24.29
and you just let
the operator know
00:14:24.29\00:14:26.43
that you'd like that book.
00:14:26.43\00:14:27.86
Thanks for your call, Diane.
00:14:27.86\00:14:29.30
We've got Doug
listening in Arizona.
00:14:29.30\00:14:31.37
Doug, welcome to the program.
00:14:31.37\00:14:33.40
- [Doug] I have a
question from Colossians.
00:14:33.40\00:14:37.31
I was talking to
somebody about the Sabbath
00:14:37.31\00:14:39.81
and they referred to
Paul basically saying
00:14:39.81\00:14:44.31
that it didn't matter.
00:14:44.31\00:14:45.58
Where it says, "Therefore,
do not let anyone judge you
00:14:48.32\00:14:51.52
by what you eat or drink
00:14:51.52\00:14:52.99
or with regard to
the religious festival,
00:14:52.99\00:14:56.39
a new moon
celebration or a Sabbath day."
00:14:56.39\00:14:59.76
'Cause they think I'm
crazy for honoring the Sabbath,
00:14:59.76\00:15:04.37
and these are
Christian people as well.
00:15:04.37\00:15:06.50
- Yeah, well if you
read the way it reads
00:15:06.50\00:15:09.54
in the King James or the
New King James version, it says,
00:15:09.54\00:15:12.01
"so let no one judge
you in food or in drink,
00:15:12.01\00:15:14.31
or regarding a festival
or a new moon or Sabbaths."
00:15:14.31\00:15:17.18
And its plural and it's
small "S" not capital "S".
00:15:17.18\00:15:20.78
The Jews had
several annual Sabbaths
00:15:20.78\00:15:23.15
that were part of
their ceremonial law.
00:15:23.15\00:15:25.29
These things along with
the sacrificing of lambs
00:15:25.29\00:15:28.16
and circumcision were
all nailed to the cross.
00:15:28.16\00:15:30.73
And it talks about bloting out,
00:15:30.73\00:15:32.33
it's in the earlier
part of Colossians 2,
00:15:32.33\00:15:35.66
it says in verse 14,
00:15:35.66\00:15:36.97
"Having wiped out or
abolished the handwriting
00:15:36.97\00:15:40.04
of requirements
that was against us."
00:15:40.04\00:15:42.34
The Bible says
Moses wrote with his hand
00:15:42.34\00:15:45.77
the ceremonial laws that
would be a witness against them.
00:15:45.77\00:15:49.44
The ceremonial laws is
the law that was a witness
00:15:49.44\00:15:52.58
against them written
by the hand of Moses.
00:15:52.58\00:15:55.95
The 10 commandments were
written by the finger of God
00:15:55.95\00:15:58.39
in stone, not
parchment or paper or leather,
00:15:58.39\00:16:01.62
you don't nail that to a cross.
00:16:01.62\00:16:03.66
So, they're just
totally misapplying.
00:16:03.66\00:16:06.46
See, the ceremonial
Sabbath came after sin,
00:16:06.46\00:16:09.96
the Sabbath that's in the 10
commandments came before sin,
00:16:11.33\00:16:13.30
it was in the Garden of Eden
on the seventh day of creation.
00:16:13.30\00:16:16.37
And so, the idea that
believers no longer need
00:16:16.37\00:16:19.14
that day of
rest is really absurd
00:16:19.14\00:16:20.81
when you think about it.
00:16:20.81\00:16:22.14
Now I've had two questions
back to back on this subject.
00:16:22.14\00:16:23.88
- Yeah. - We ought to offer
00:16:23.88\00:16:25.21
a lesson on the Sabbath.
00:16:25.21\00:16:27.02
- You know, just to
add to that, Pastor Doug,
00:16:27.02\00:16:28.88
verse 17, I think is
the key here where it says,
00:16:28.88\00:16:31.42
"Which are a shadow
of the things to come,
00:16:31.42\00:16:33.79
but the substance is Christ."
00:16:33.79\00:16:35.62
So when you're looking
at the ceremonial Sabbath,
00:16:35.62\00:16:37.43
they are a type of Christ.
00:16:37.43\00:16:39.63
And if we look at the context
of the Book of Colossians,
00:16:39.63\00:16:42.03
Paul is dealing with an issue
00:16:42.03\00:16:43.13
where there were
Jewish Christians
00:16:43.13\00:16:46.27
who were telling
the Gentile believers
00:16:46.27\00:16:48.10
or the Gentile
Christians that they had
00:16:48.10\00:16:49.40
to keep the ceremonial law.
00:16:49.40\00:16:50.97
And yet Paul is saying,
00:16:51.87\00:16:53.21
"No, you don't have to
keep those ceremonial laws
00:16:53.21\00:16:55.08
that were a shadow, but
the substance is Christ,"
00:16:55.08\00:16:57.71
he's not talking
about the 10 commandments.
00:16:57.71\00:16:59.55
- That's right.
00:16:59.55\00:17:00.78
- Alright, you know, the book
00:17:00.78\00:17:01.85
that we offered a
little earlier called,
00:17:01.85\00:17:02.98
"Does God's Grace
Blot out the Law?"
00:17:02.98\00:17:04.92
actually covers this as well,
00:17:04.92\00:17:06.65
so that's a great
offer for anyone wanting
00:17:06.65\00:17:08.56
to learn more about that.
00:17:08.56\00:17:09.66
The number to
call is 800-835-6747.
00:17:09.66\00:17:13.13
And you can also
ask for our study guide,
00:17:13.13\00:17:14.60
it's called "Written in Stone."
00:17:14.60\00:17:15.80
It's about the 10 commandments.
00:17:15.80\00:17:17.47
And again, "Written in Stone,"
00:17:17.47\00:17:19.13
the number is 800-835-6747.
00:17:19.13\00:17:22.44
We've got Robert
listening in New Jersey.
00:17:22.44\00:17:24.04
Robert, welcome to the program.
00:17:24.04\00:17:25.67
- [Robert] Good
evening, Pastors.
00:17:26.91\00:17:28.38
- Good evening.
00:17:28.38\00:17:29.91
- [Robert] My
question's concerning if Christ,
00:17:29.91\00:17:33.28
and going to the cross.
00:17:33.28\00:17:34.55
Now, I think it
might have been indicated,
00:17:34.55\00:17:36.82
somebody was telling me in
the Gospel of Matthew that,
00:17:36.82\00:17:40.39
had everybody accepted Him
and all His people, everybody,
00:17:40.39\00:17:44.79
and not fought against Him,
00:17:44.79\00:17:45.89
if everybody accepted
that He was the Messiah
00:17:45.89\00:17:48.46
that He would not have
to go through the cross.
00:17:48.46\00:17:50.07
I mean, that that was
more like a backup plan.
00:17:50.07\00:17:53.74
This I had to find out about.
00:17:53.74\00:17:55.44
I know the Book of Hebrews
says He despised the cross,
00:17:55.44\00:17:58.64
but I mean, others
say that He had to go,
00:17:58.64\00:18:02.31
others say that if
everybody accepted Him,
00:18:02.31\00:18:04.21
He might not have had.
00:18:04.21\00:18:05.01
So I wanna find out exactly,
00:18:05.01\00:18:08.75
you know, what's
the truth on that?
00:18:08.75\00:18:11.85
- Alright.
00:18:11.85\00:18:13.12
Well, that's a good
question, but keep in mind,
00:18:13.12\00:18:14.19
whenever we ask a
hypothetical question,
00:18:14.19\00:18:16.86
it's hard to prove
because all you can do is,
00:18:16.86\00:18:20.53
you know, theorize.
00:18:20.53\00:18:22.06
People say, "Well, if
Eve ate the forbidden fruit
00:18:22.06\00:18:25.10
but Adam didn't,
00:18:25.10\00:18:26.97
what would've happened then?
00:18:26.97\00:18:28.07
Would God have
just gotten rid of Eve
00:18:28.07\00:18:31.01
and get Adam a new wife,
00:18:31.01\00:18:32.71
or would He just
have forgiven Eve?"
00:18:32.71\00:18:35.64
So, if everybody
had accepted Jesus,
00:18:35.64\00:18:37.51
would Jesus have
to die on the cross?
00:18:37.51\00:18:39.31
Well, Jesus would have to die,
00:18:39.31\00:18:40.92
of course the Scriptures would
be fulfilled no matter what,
00:18:40.92\00:18:43.72
but Jesus would need to
die because we've all sinned,
00:18:43.72\00:18:46.05
and the penalty for sin is death
00:18:46.05\00:18:47.39
and He took the
penalty of the saved.
00:18:47.39\00:18:50.19
So just like God asked
Abraham to bring his son
00:18:50.19\00:18:54.30
and offer him and
Abraham and Isaac went willingly
00:18:54.30\00:18:57.27
to the place of sacrifice,
00:18:57.27\00:18:58.93
I'm guessing, it's
just a theory again,
00:18:58.93\00:19:01.40
Christ would have died,
00:19:01.40\00:19:03.51
it just would've
been a willing sacrifice
00:19:03.51\00:19:05.77
as opposed to
something closer to a murder.
00:19:05.77\00:19:09.78
So again, when you
start doing hypotheticals,
00:19:09.78\00:19:13.48
all you can do
is kind of surmise.
00:19:13.48\00:19:15.88
Does that make sense, Robert?
00:19:15.88\00:19:17.42
- [Robert] It makes sense.
00:19:18.22\00:19:20.02
I just thought it was,
00:19:20.02\00:19:21.39
somebody said it was kind
of indicated in the Gospel,
00:19:21.39\00:19:23.32
not really hypothetical,
00:19:23.32\00:19:24.39
but it doesn't make sense though
00:19:24.39\00:19:26.03
because it was a blood sacrifice
00:19:26.03\00:19:29.56
that needed to be
answered if I'm correct.
00:19:29.56\00:19:32.30
Correct? - You're right.
00:19:32.30\00:19:33.60
Yeah, it's the only
thing that covers our sin,
00:19:33.60\00:19:36.54
it says, "Without
the shedding of blood,
00:19:36.54\00:19:38.17
there is no forgiveness."
00:19:38.17\00:19:39.41
That's in the Scriptures.
00:19:39.41\00:19:40.51
So Jesus would've had
to shed His blood for us
00:19:40.51\00:19:43.85
to be forgiven.
00:19:43.85\00:19:44.75
Hey, thank you so much.
00:19:45.81\00:19:47.32
- [Robert] Thank you, Pastors.
00:19:47.32\00:19:48.12
- Yeah, and thank you, Robert.
00:19:48.12\00:19:49.62
- Next caller that we have is
Charles listening in Virginia.
00:19:51.02\00:19:53.89
Charles, welcome to the program.
00:19:53.89\00:19:55.76
- [Charles] Alright.
00:19:55.76\00:19:57.09
I have a big question
about the 10 commandments,
00:19:57.09\00:19:59.66
two whys and a how.
00:19:59.66\00:20:01.43
The Exodus 20 account
of the 10 commandments
00:20:02.56\00:20:04.33
is what we usually go with,
00:20:04.33\00:20:05.77
but those stone
tablets were destroyed
00:20:05.77\00:20:08.54
and Moses had to go back up.
00:20:08.54\00:20:10.67
In Exodus 34:10 to
the end of the chapter,
00:20:10.67\00:20:13.48
we can see a
drastically different content
00:20:13.48\00:20:17.01
in those stone tablets of
what the commandments are.
00:20:17.01\00:20:19.65
So why do we go with
the Exodus 20 commandments
00:20:19.65\00:20:23.32
and why are they drastically
different in Exodus 34,
00:20:23.32\00:20:27.69
the new ones?
00:20:27.69\00:20:29.06
And how does the Exodus
34 ones relate to us today,
00:20:29.06\00:20:31.83
if at all?
00:20:31.83\00:20:32.73
- Well, Exodus 34 is not a
list of the 10 commandments.
00:20:34.20\00:20:38.33
In other words,
Exodus 34 is not telling you
00:20:42.44\00:20:44.77
what was written on the stones.
00:20:44.77\00:20:46.74
'Cause God told
Moses in the beginning,
00:20:46.74\00:20:48.98
He said to write the words
that were on the first table.
00:20:48.98\00:20:52.58
So it's not a
different set of commandments,
00:20:55.52\00:20:58.82
the Lord is
continuing in Exodus.
00:20:58.82\00:21:00.92
In Exodus, even after
the first 10 commandments
00:21:00.92\00:21:03.26
are given in Exodus 20,
00:21:03.26\00:21:04.73
then God goes
on after Exodus 20,
00:21:04.73\00:21:06.70
He gives him other laws,
00:21:06.70\00:21:07.76
ceremonial laws,
civil laws, health laws,
00:21:07.76\00:21:10.03
and He continues to do
this here again after Exodus 34
00:21:10.03\00:21:13.57
when He says, "You're not to
make molded gods for yourself."
00:21:14.90\00:21:17.64
That's not reiterating
the second commandment,
00:21:17.64\00:21:20.81
He's expanding on
the 10 commandments.
00:21:20.81\00:21:23.88
See, then He talks
about the firstborn son
00:21:23.88\00:21:26.85
and, you know, He
mentions the Sabbath again,
00:21:26.85\00:21:30.42
He talks about the annual feast,
00:21:31.35\00:21:32.89
but this is not what was written
00:21:32.89\00:21:34.29
on the second table of stone.
00:21:34.29\00:21:36.12
They wrote the same thing
that was on the first set.
00:21:36.12\00:21:38.43
- [Charles]
Wow, I'm just amazed.
00:21:38.43\00:21:41.46
Do you have the
verse where it says that?
00:21:41.46\00:21:43.93
- Yeah, it's Exodus 34:1.
00:21:45.00\00:21:46.84
"And the Lord said to Moses,
00:21:46.84\00:21:48.27
'Cut two tables of
stone like the first ones
00:21:48.27\00:21:51.11
and I will write on
these tables the words
00:21:51.11\00:21:54.08
that were on the
first tables you broke.'"
00:21:54.08\00:21:56.34
God is saying it's
gonna be the same words
00:21:56.34\00:21:58.05
that were on the first tables.
00:21:58.05\00:21:59.81
- [Charles] Wow, okay.
00:21:59.81\00:22:01.15
- And then proof of that,
00:22:01.15\00:22:02.22
now, if you go to Deuteronomy 5,
00:22:02.22\00:22:04.45
you'll see the list here again.
00:22:05.69\00:22:08.06
And Deuteronomy 5 has
the 10 commandments again.
00:22:10.59\00:22:13.96
- [Charles]
Alright, that's awesome.
00:22:15.00\00:22:16.93
- Alright.
00:22:16.93\00:22:18.43
And that lesson we offered
earlier about "Written in
00:22:18.43\00:22:20.60
Stone." Did we
offer that one or not yet?
00:22:20.60\00:22:22.04
- Just briefly.
00:22:22.04\00:22:23.10
Yeah, but definitely...
it's a good lesson.
00:22:23.10\00:22:24.21
- That would also
answer this more for Charles.
00:22:24.21\00:22:25.61
- Yeah! Again, the study guide
is called "Written in Stone,"
00:22:25.61\00:22:28.04
and the number to call
for that is 800-835-6747.
00:22:28.04\00:22:31.95
And you can ask
for that study guide
00:22:31.95\00:22:33.21
talking about
the 10 commandments,
00:22:33.21\00:22:34.62
and we'll be
happy to send that out
00:22:34.62\00:22:35.68
to anyone who calls and asks.
00:22:35.68\00:22:37.12
If you have a Bible question,
00:22:37.12\00:22:38.82
our phone line here to
the studio is 800-463-7297.
00:22:38.82\00:22:43.89
Next we have Carlos
listening in California.
00:22:44.96\00:22:45.96
Carlos, welcome to the program.
00:22:45.96\00:22:47.60
- [Carlos] Well,
hello, Pastors, God bless you
00:22:48.76\00:22:50.77
and thank you
for taking my call.
00:22:50.77\00:22:52.53
- Yes. - My question is,
00:22:52.53\00:22:53.77
I heard a rabbi on the
phone the other day stating
00:22:55.17\00:22:57.51
that Isaac was
about 37 years old
00:22:57.51\00:23:02.34
when he was
being offered to God.
00:23:02.34\00:23:04.88
Is that true?
00:23:04.88\00:23:06.18
- No, I don't think so.
00:23:07.42\00:23:08.65
Because it tells us
that his mother died.
00:23:09.85\00:23:13.22
First of all, if
I'm not mistaken,
00:23:13.22\00:23:14.99
Sarah bore
Isaac when she was 90.
00:23:15.86\00:23:18.76
Is that right,
Pastor Ross? - Mm-hm.
00:23:18.76\00:23:20.03
Abraham 100.
00:23:20.03\00:23:20.86
- And she dies at 120.
00:23:20.86\00:23:22.93
And so, if Isaac was 37, that
would've been after she died.
00:23:24.33\00:23:28.94
But it has Isaac being
offered before she dies.
00:23:30.14\00:23:34.21
I think it's more
likely that Isaac was about 17.
00:23:34.21\00:23:37.48
So when you look at the story
before the offering of Isaac,
00:23:38.88\00:23:42.98
and I think that's
Genesis 22 and afterward,
00:23:42.98\00:23:46.02
yeah, I don't
know why he said that.
00:23:48.86\00:23:52.49
- [Carlos] This is a guy
that comes online every day
00:23:52.49\00:23:55.03
and he claims to be a rabbi.
00:23:55.03\00:23:57.70
I needed to ask and thank
you very much for your answer.
00:23:57.70\00:24:01.14
- Yeah, and let
me tell you, Carlos,
00:24:01.14\00:24:04.04
there's a website
Amazing Facts has,
00:24:04.04\00:24:06.01
we haven't mentioned lately,
00:24:06.01\00:24:07.41
but I tried it again
this week, it's working great.
00:24:07.41\00:24:09.28
It's called Bible
Timeline or Biblehistory.com.
00:24:09.28\00:24:12.48
If you type in Biblehistory.com,
00:24:12.48\00:24:15.12
you can look at the
Bible ages and dates
00:24:15.12\00:24:17.32
of all these main characters
00:24:17.32\00:24:19.19
and you just slide
the little slider across
00:24:19.19\00:24:21.16
it'll tell you
how long Isaac lived,
00:24:21.16\00:24:23.66
it'll tell you when the main
events happened in his life,
00:24:23.66\00:24:25.76
and I think it even talks
about the sacrifice of Isaac
00:24:25.76\00:24:28.00
or the offering of
Isaac in that timeline,
00:24:28.00\00:24:30.53
it'll tell you
how old he was there.
00:24:30.53\00:24:32.83
Thank you for your question.
00:24:32.83\00:24:34.14
- Alright, we've got Zaq
listening from North Carolina.
00:24:34.14\00:24:38.04
Zaq, welcome to the program.
00:24:38.04\00:24:39.57
- [Zaq] It's an
honor for me for having
00:24:41.18\00:24:43.61
to speak with you guys.
00:24:43.61\00:24:44.88
- Thank you. - I have a question
00:24:46.28\00:24:47.32
also related to the Sabbath.
00:24:47.32\00:24:49.52
I'm a member of a church.
00:24:51.75\00:24:56.62
A lot of the
members there ask me about
00:24:56.62\00:24:59.03
why I don't come
in every Sabbath.
00:24:59.03\00:25:03.50
My main answer is the pandemic.
00:25:03.50\00:25:06.17
So my main question is,
what does the Bible have
00:25:06.17\00:25:08.67
to say about worshiping at a
physical church every Sabbath?
00:25:08.67\00:25:13.74
- Okay.
00:25:15.98\00:25:17.08
And so the idea
here of course is
00:25:17.08\00:25:21.48
the importance of
gathering together
00:25:21.48\00:25:23.12
to worship on the Sabbath day.
00:25:23.12\00:25:25.05
I think we need to be practical,
00:25:26.02\00:25:27.52
you know, if
there's a pandemic rampaging
00:25:27.52\00:25:29.99
through the country and
we know that we can be safer
00:25:29.99\00:25:32.73
and it's
temporary by staying home,
00:25:32.73\00:25:34.93
there's no sin in staying
home because of sickness.
00:25:34.93\00:25:37.57
It's always true
that if you're sick,
00:25:37.57\00:25:39.07
it's a good idea to stay home,
00:25:39.07\00:25:40.17
whether there's
a pandemic or not.
00:25:40.17\00:25:41.90
And so, you know, for a
time to preserve health,
00:25:41.90\00:25:46.98
but I think as a
principle, you know,
00:25:48.04\00:25:49.81
once the major risk is
gone, in Hebrews 10, it says,
00:25:49.81\00:25:54.88
"Let us not
forsake the assembling
00:25:55.92\00:25:57.39
of ourselves together
as the manner of some is."
00:25:57.39\00:26:00.69
So it's very
important for us not to forsake,
00:26:00.69\00:26:03.29
and certainly not permanently.
00:26:03.29\00:26:05.03
And then you can also read
the part of keeping the Sabbath,
00:26:05.03\00:26:08.13
you read there in Leviticus 23,
00:26:08.13\00:26:09.96
it calls the Sabbath
the holy convocation.
00:26:09.96\00:26:12.17
That means a convening, a
time for us to come together.
00:26:12.17\00:26:15.70
And then the example you
have in the New Testament
00:26:15.70\00:26:17.87
with the apostles and Jesus.
00:26:17.87\00:26:19.74
His custom was, He went
into the temple or synagogue
00:26:19.74\00:26:22.51
on the Sabbath day,
00:26:22.51\00:26:24.08
the apostles went from church
to church on the Sabbath day,
00:26:24.08\00:26:28.92
so, it's important for us to
get together and gain strength.
00:26:28.92\00:26:33.82
Now, like I said, that
doesn't mean that it's a sin
00:26:33.82\00:26:37.13
if during a time a
pandemic people are,
00:26:37.13\00:26:39.23
you know, going through
some temporary health crisis,
00:26:39.23\00:26:42.70
but there's always gonna be risk
00:26:42.70\00:26:44.47
for God's
people coming together.
00:26:44.47\00:26:46.53
We're not done, friends,
00:26:46.53\00:26:47.64
we'll be back with
more Bible questions
00:26:47.64\00:26:48.84
right after
this important break.
00:26:48.84\00:26:51.17
(bright/ grand music)
00:26:51.17\00:26:54.54
- [Announcer] Stay tuned,
00:26:54.54\00:26:55.68
"Bible Answers
Live" will return shortly.
00:26:55.68\00:26:58.21
(bright music)
00:26:58.21\00:27:00.85
- [Announcer] Do you feel as
though your world is spiraling
00:27:02.22\00:27:04.42
out of control?
00:27:04.42\00:27:06.32
Are economic uncertainty
and an unknown future
00:27:06.32\00:27:09.22
leaving you with unsettled
feelings about the future?
00:27:09.22\00:27:12.16
Or perhaps new life
challenges are frightening
00:27:13.46\00:27:15.60
you more than they should?
00:27:15.60\00:27:17.43
Are you sinking
while you're thinking?
00:27:17.43\00:27:20.04
Excessive worry can consume you,
00:27:20.04\00:27:22.17
eating you from the inside out,
00:27:22.17\00:27:24.01
resulting in sickness,
insomnia and paralyzing fear.
00:27:24.01\00:27:27.91
It can also damage
relationships, ruin
00:27:27.91\00:27:31.28
opportunities, and yes, diminish
your witness for the Gospel.
00:27:31.28\00:27:34.42
But problems are an
everyday part of life,
00:27:34.42\00:27:36.95
so how can we better manage
the worry that comes with them?
00:27:36.95\00:27:41.02
- Worry affects
everybody differently,
00:27:41.02\00:27:43.53
but it's all driven by fear.
00:27:43.53\00:27:45.79
So how can you
overcome a world full of reasons
00:27:45.79\00:27:48.66
to be anxious?
00:27:48.66\00:27:50.33
I'd like to
recommend for you my new book,
00:27:50.33\00:27:52.77
"Finding Peace in
a World of Worry."
00:27:52.77\00:27:55.17
It's packed with
inspiring information
00:27:55.17\00:27:57.44
and useful solutions to not
only liberate you from stress,
00:27:57.44\00:28:01.58
but also to prevent
stress from building up
00:28:01.58\00:28:03.81
in the first place.
00:28:03.81\00:28:05.25
Best of all, these
principles all come directly
00:28:05.25\00:28:08.42
from the Word of God.
00:28:08.42\00:28:09.95
You'll discover a
lifeline to victory,
00:28:09.95\00:28:12.69
a place where you can
cast your cares upon Christ
00:28:12.69\00:28:15.39
and experience a serenity
00:28:15.39\00:28:17.83
that isn't subject
to your circumstances.

00:30:31.29\00:30:33.93
My name is Doug Batchelor.
00:30:33.93\00:30:35.63
- My name is Jean Ross,
00:30:35.63\00:30:37.20
and we are gonna go to
our next caller, Pastor Doug.
00:30:37.20\00:30:39.20
We've got Ron
listening in Canada.
00:30:39.20\00:30:41.17
Ron, welcome to the
program, you're on the air.
00:30:41.17\00:30:43.97
- [Ron] Hey, good
night, Pastor Ross,
00:30:43.97\00:30:45.31
good night, Pastor Batchelor,
00:30:45.31\00:30:46.57
very glad to be on
for the first time.
00:30:46.57\00:30:48.34
I've got a quick question.
00:30:48.34\00:30:49.61
Who are the two
anointed ones in Zachariah 4:14?
00:30:50.85\00:30:55.68
My wife and I, we were
doing our devotion tonight
00:30:57.12\00:30:58.65
and we were reading and I
was like, "Whoa, what is that?"
00:30:58.65\00:31:00.76
- Yeah, this would be
the same as the two witnesses
00:31:00.76\00:31:04.53
that you find in Revelation 11.
00:31:04.53\00:31:06.83
You'll find it says,
they're the two olive branches
00:31:06.83\00:31:11.07
that are before
the throne of God.
00:31:11.07\00:31:13.20
We believe that this
represents the Word of God.
00:31:13.20\00:31:16.47
Because the Word of God,
00:31:17.24\00:31:18.34
of course is
enhanced by the Holy Spirit,
00:31:18.34\00:31:21.28
that's talking
about the olive oil.
00:31:21.28\00:31:23.98
And when you think about,
00:31:23.98\00:31:27.45
when it talks
about two anointed ones,
00:31:27.45\00:31:30.09
the Bible says "In the
mouth of two or three witnesses,
00:31:30.09\00:31:33.52
let everything be established."
00:31:33.52\00:31:35.16
The Bible is compared
to a sword with two edges.
00:31:35.16\00:31:38.19
It talks about the
law and the prophets,
00:31:39.63\00:31:42.43
two
characteristics of God's Church.
00:31:42.43\00:31:44.10
In Revelation 12, it says,
00:31:44.10\00:31:46.74
"She keeps the
commandments of God
00:31:46.74\00:31:48.47
and has the testimony of
Jesus, the spirit of prophecy."
00:31:48.47\00:31:52.24
And so, you've got
the law and the prophets.
00:31:52.24\00:31:54.18
It's like Moses and Elijah.
00:31:54.18\00:31:56.11
Moses was the law,
Elijah was the prophets,
00:31:56.11\00:31:59.51
and Moses and Elijah appear
00:31:59.51\00:32:01.38
to endorse the
ministry of Jesus in Mark 9
00:32:01.38\00:32:05.42
and I think also in
Luke 9 and in Matthew,
00:32:05.42\00:32:08.02
you find that
story all three places.
00:32:08.02\00:32:09.82
So, it's talking
about the Word of God going
00:32:09.82\00:32:12.69
through all of the earth.
00:32:12.69\00:32:14.36
And you find more about
this again in Revelation 11
00:32:14.36\00:32:18.20
and I think, Pastor Ross,
00:32:18.20\00:32:19.30
we've got a book
on the two witnesses.
00:32:19.30\00:32:21.60
- That's right.
00:32:21.60\00:32:22.74
I was just
looking the book up, yes.
00:32:22.74\00:32:24.41
And again, if you'd like
to learn more about that,
00:32:24.41\00:32:27.01
just call 800-385-6747,
00:32:27.01\00:32:30.21
and you can ask for the
book on "The Two Witnesses"
00:32:30.21\00:32:32.75
and we'll be happy to
send that out to anyone
00:32:32.75\00:32:34.25
who is in North America.
00:32:34.25\00:32:35.62
Outside of North America,
you can still read the book,
00:32:35.62\00:32:37.89
but you need to go to
the Amazing Facts website,
00:32:37.89\00:32:40.09
just amazingfacts.com.
00:32:40.09\00:32:42.72
Thanks for your call, Ron.
00:32:42.72\00:32:44.13
We've got Elvis
listening in New York.
00:32:44.13\00:32:45.83
Elvis, welcome to the program.
00:32:45.83\00:32:47.60
- [Elvis] I'm glad to be
here, this is my first time.
00:32:47.60\00:32:50.30
I'm a fairly new
Christian here, 23 years old
00:32:50.30\00:32:52.47
so I get confused a lot
and I've never been to church.
00:32:52.47\00:32:55.97
But anyways, I was
debating with some friends
00:32:55.97\00:32:59.91
about the topic of hell
and they were telling me,
00:32:59.91\00:33:02.48
and I've
learned through you guys
00:33:02.48\00:33:04.31
that hell is not
eternal, conscious torment
00:33:04.31\00:33:07.42
and also that nobody
is in hell right now.
00:33:07.42\00:33:10.52
So I was debating
and they pointed me
00:33:10.52\00:33:13.09
to Revelation 20:13,14.
00:33:13.09\00:33:15.56
- [Pasto Doug] Should
I go ahead and read that?
00:33:18.63\00:33:20.63
- [Elvis] Yeah, go ahead, sir.
00:33:20.63\00:33:22.40
- Alright, it says,
00:33:22.40\00:33:23.50
"The sea gave up the
dead that were in it,
00:33:23.50\00:33:25.57
and death and Hades delivered
up the dead who were in them,
00:33:25.57\00:33:28.57
and they were judged each
one according to his works.
00:33:28.57\00:33:31.27
Then death and Hades were
cast into the lake of fire.
00:33:31.27\00:33:34.14
This is the second death.
00:33:34.14\00:33:36.08
And anyone not found
written in the Book of Life
00:33:36.08\00:33:38.21
was cast into the lake of fire."
00:33:38.21\00:33:40.42
So yeah, we have no contest
00:33:40.42\00:33:42.82
or disagreement
with any Scripture.
00:33:42.82\00:33:44.39
And this is very clear that
there is a judgment at the end.
00:33:44.39\00:33:48.59
Nobody's burning in hell now
00:33:48.59\00:33:50.03
because the
judgment hasn't happened yet.
00:33:50.03\00:33:51.73
Jesus said the
judgment is the last day.
00:33:51.73\00:33:54.60
And so, there's
going to be a time
00:33:54.60\00:33:58.40
when the wicked are
cast into the lake of fire.
00:33:58.40\00:34:00.80
And it says, "Death and hell,"
00:34:00.80\00:34:02.37
even the grave is
gonna be burnt up.
00:34:02.37\00:34:04.77
- You know, Pastor
Doug, just to add to that,
00:34:04.77\00:34:06.07
I think some confusion is,
00:34:06.07\00:34:07.61
it talks about death
and Hades in the King James.
00:34:07.61\00:34:10.51
Another word for that
word in the original Greek
00:34:10.51\00:34:12.88
just simply means the grave.
00:34:12.88\00:34:14.82
So, death and the grave.
00:34:14.82\00:34:16.35
It's not a place of torment,
00:34:16.35\00:34:17.45
it just means the
grave in the Greek.
00:34:17.45\00:34:19.49
- Yeah, so God is
going to, He's gonna abolish,
00:34:19.49\00:34:22.82
anything going in the
lake of fire is abolished.
00:34:22.82\00:34:25.26
And God is gonna abolish death,
00:34:25.26\00:34:27.23
there'll be no more
death, no more weeping,
00:34:27.23\00:34:28.90
no more funerals and
nothing here that says
00:34:28.90\00:34:33.80
that there is a
lake of fire burning now,
00:34:33.80\00:34:36.77
or that it burns eternally.
00:34:36.77\00:34:38.21
- [Elvis] Yeah, that's
what they were telling me,
00:34:39.54\00:34:41.01
I don't know.
00:34:41.01\00:34:42.01
But yeah, thank you.
00:34:42.01\00:34:42.84
That's it.
00:34:42.84\00:34:43.68
Thank you, sir.
00:34:43.68\00:34:45.01
- Yeah, now we have a
good study guide on that.
00:34:45.01\00:34:46.82
We'll send you if you
would like a free copy
00:34:46.82\00:34:49.12
or anyone out there.
00:34:49.12\00:34:50.15
And it's not what
Pastor Ross and I teach,
00:34:50.15\00:34:51.85
these are just Scriptures,
00:34:51.85\00:34:53.22
and we'll be happy to share
that with you and it's called,
00:34:53.22\00:34:55.69
"Is the Devil
in Charge of Hell?"
00:34:55.69\00:34:57.66
- And the number to call
for that is 800-835-6747.
00:34:57.66\00:35:01.63
It's one of our
Amazing Facts study guides.
00:35:01.63\00:35:03.43
It's called, "Is the
Devil in Charge of Hell?"
00:35:03.43\00:35:05.93
And of course we'll send that
to anyone who calls and asks,
00:35:05.93\00:35:08.34
or as mentioned earlier,
00:35:08.34\00:35:09.74
you can read it online at
the Amazing Facts website.
00:35:09.74\00:35:12.67
Thanks for your call, Elvis.
00:35:12.67\00:35:13.81
We have Janice
listening in Tennessee.
00:35:13.81\00:35:15.81
Janice, welcome to the program.
00:35:15.81\00:35:17.61
- [Janice] Thank you very much.
00:35:17.61\00:35:18.88
I really enjoy your
program, it's very wonderful.
00:35:18.88\00:35:21.52
- Thank you. - And thank you
00:35:21.52\00:35:22.48
for taking my call.
00:35:22.48\00:35:23.55
- Appreciate it,
thanks for calling.
00:35:23.55\00:35:25.79
- [Janice] Okay.
00:35:26.55\00:35:27.62
I was wondering
about Genesis 3:16.
00:35:27.62\00:35:30.43
It's talking about
when Eve ate the fruit
00:35:30.43\00:35:32.93
and disobeyed God
and it's saying how,
00:35:32.93\00:35:37.97
the negative part, you
know, the sad part of sin
00:35:39.30\00:35:40.90
for a woman where it says,
00:35:40.90\00:35:44.57
"I will greatly multiply
your sorrow and your conception,
00:35:44.57\00:35:47.18
and in pain you
shall bring forth children.
00:35:47.18\00:35:49.78
Your desire shall
be for your husband
00:35:49.78\00:35:51.78
and he shall rule over you."
00:35:51.78\00:35:53.42
Does that mean
your desire can be,
00:35:53.42\00:35:55.68
since it's negative things here,
00:35:55.68\00:35:57.22
does that mean you
could have too much desire
00:35:57.22\00:35:59.22
for your husband?
00:35:59.22\00:36:00.62
- You know, this
is an interesting,
00:36:00.62\00:36:02.32
I don't think it means that,
00:36:02.32\00:36:04.49
I think that
this is a place where,
00:36:04.49\00:36:08.40
it's hinting in the
Hebrew that your desire would be
00:36:08.40\00:36:12.13
to have dominion
over your husband.
00:36:12.13\00:36:14.40
And then God is
answering that, He's saying,
00:36:14.40\00:36:16.47
"But he shall rule over you,"
00:36:16.47\00:36:17.77
meaning that the
leadership in the family
00:36:17.77\00:36:20.61
should be coming from the man.
00:36:20.61\00:36:23.31
And so the last
statement there in verse 16
00:36:23.31\00:36:26.88
is actually dealing with
the verse immediately before
00:36:26.88\00:36:30.29
that you may have
a desire to dominate,
00:36:30.29\00:36:34.09
but you should be submissive.
00:36:34.09\00:36:36.29
I don't know what your
take is on that, Pastor Ross.
00:36:36.29\00:36:38.26
- Mm-hmm, yeah. - That's the way
00:36:38.26\00:36:40.00
I've understood it as,
00:36:40.00\00:36:41.33
and I'm not a Hebrew scholar,
00:36:41.33\00:36:43.06
but when I read
the commentaries,
00:36:43.06\00:36:44.93
that's what they
seem to indicate.
00:36:44.93\00:36:46.70
So yeah, I don't
think it's saying
00:36:47.94\00:36:49.77
that there would be an
over-desire for your husband
00:36:49.77\00:36:54.84
that needs to be mitigated.
00:36:55.64\00:36:56.75
- [Janice] Okay,
okay, that helps.
00:36:56.75\00:36:59.08
Thank you very much.
00:36:59.08\00:36:59.88
- Alright, thank you so much.
00:36:59.88\00:37:02.22
- Alright, we've got Robert
listening from North Carolina.
00:37:02.22\00:37:04.65
Robert, welcome to the program.
00:37:04.65\00:37:06.25
- [Robert] Good evening, Doug
and Jean, Pastor, both of you.
00:37:07.66\00:37:11.16
This is my first time.
00:37:12.33\00:37:14.73
But I have a question as
how I would answer verse 19
00:37:14.73\00:37:19.07
of Matthew 16.
00:37:19.07\00:37:22.14
Matthew 16:18,19
is talking about,
00:37:23.47\00:37:28.44
Jesus is talking to Peter
00:37:28.44\00:37:30.35
about building His
Church on the rock.
00:37:30.35\00:37:32.88
Of course, I believe all that,
00:37:32.88\00:37:34.55
but I'd like to know
if someone questioned me
00:37:34.55\00:37:37.05
how would I answer
the follow up in 19?
00:37:37.05\00:37:41.26
- Alright, let me read this
00:37:41.26\00:37:42.36
for our friends that
are listening, Robert.
00:37:42.36\00:37:44.13
We're always mindful that
a lot of people are listening
00:37:44.13\00:37:46.33
on a radio and they're
driving, they can't look it up.
00:37:46.33\00:37:49.40
"And Jesus says, 'I say
to you that Peter, you are,'"
00:37:49.40\00:37:52.43
well, let me back up,
00:37:52.43\00:37:53.77
you almost need to read the
previous verse where Jesus says,
00:37:53.77\00:37:57.74
you know, "Who do
you say that I am?"
00:37:57.74\00:37:59.14
And Peter is the one
in verse 16 who declares,
00:37:59.14\00:38:01.41
"You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God,"
00:38:01.41\00:38:04.71
Jesus said, "'Blessed
are you, Simon Bar-Jonah,
00:38:04.71\00:38:06.98
for flesh and blood
did not reveal this to you,
00:38:06.98\00:38:08.75
but my Father
who is in Heaven.'"
00:38:08.75\00:38:10.72
And Christ is continuing,
00:38:10.72\00:38:12.02
"'And I say to
you, you are Peter.'"
00:38:12.02\00:38:14.79
Now that word there,
Peter, is Petros in the Greek.
00:38:14.79\00:38:19.13
Petros is a stone
that might roll around
00:38:19.13\00:38:21.56
in a creek or on the beach,
00:38:21.56\00:38:23.00
you could pick it up
and skip it and throw it.
00:38:23.00\00:38:25.43
And He says, "You are
Petros and on this rock..."
00:38:25.43\00:38:29.60
And the word,
rock, there is Petra,
00:38:29.60\00:38:31.74
"... I will build my Church."
00:38:31.74\00:38:33.38
Now people think,
"Well, does that mean
00:38:33.38\00:38:34.98
that Jesus built
the Church on Peter?"
00:38:34.98\00:38:38.08
Well, that'd be
kind of frightening
00:38:38.08\00:38:39.15
because if you look
down just a few verses,
00:38:39.15\00:38:43.32
Jesus turns to Peter
in verse 23 and says,
00:38:43.32\00:38:45.45
"Get behind me, Satan."
00:38:45.45\00:38:47.09
So you hear Peter said something
00:38:47.09\00:38:48.72
that is Spirit-led in one verse,
00:38:48.72\00:38:50.33
and then he says
something that is demon-led
00:38:50.33\00:38:52.73
a few verses later.
00:38:52.73\00:38:54.30
And so, the Church
is not built on Peter,
00:38:54.30\00:38:56.33
Peter was very unstable.
00:38:56.33\00:38:58.83
Jesus is saying the
Church is being built
00:38:58.83\00:39:01.64
on the rock that
Peter had declared
00:39:01.64\00:39:05.14
that Christ is the Messiah.
00:39:05.14\00:39:06.88
That's the rock of truth,
00:39:06.88\00:39:08.01
that is the
cornerstone of the Gospel.
00:39:08.01\00:39:11.21
The word, petra, is
talking about a rock
00:39:11.21\00:39:13.82
of immense proportions.
00:39:13.82\00:39:15.78
"On this rock, I
will build my Church."
00:39:15.78\00:39:19.02
It says, "You are
Peter, you're a rolling stone."
00:39:19.02\00:39:21.56
That's Petros.
00:39:21.56\00:39:22.66
"But on this petra
of what you've declared
00:39:22.66\00:39:25.26
that I am the Messiah,
00:39:25.26\00:39:26.66
I will build my
Church on that truth."
00:39:26.66\00:39:29.23
So hopefully that
helps a little bit, Robert.
00:39:29.23\00:39:31.70
We do appreciate your question,
00:39:31.70\00:39:33.84
a lot of people
wonder about that verse.
00:39:33.84\00:39:35.17
- You know, it's also
interesting, Pastor Doug,
00:39:35.17\00:39:36.54
If you look at some of
the other writings of Peter,
00:39:36.54\00:39:38.91
for example, in 1 Peter 2:4,
00:39:38.91\00:39:41.84
Peter says clearly that
Jesus is that living Rock
00:39:41.84\00:39:45.58
upon which the Church is
based and He's the cornerstone,
00:39:45.58\00:39:48.32
the foundation of the Church.
00:39:48.32\00:39:49.55
So there was no
confusion in Peter's mind
00:39:49.55\00:39:51.65
as to who the
foundation of the Church is.
00:39:51.65\00:39:54.29
- Good point. -
It's clearly Christ
00:39:54.29\00:39:55.12
and he brings that up.
00:39:55.12\00:39:56.76
Thank you for your call, Robert.
00:39:56.76\00:39:57.83
We've got Colleen
listening in Florida.
00:39:57.83\00:39:59.69
Colleen, welcome to the program.
00:39:59.69\00:40:01.43
- [Colleen] Hi,
good evening, Pastors.
00:40:01.43\00:40:02.93
Thank you so much
for taking my call.
00:40:02.93\00:40:05.57
My question is in
reference to 2 Samuel 24
00:40:05.57\00:40:08.50
and 1 Chronicles 21:13-14.
00:40:10.11\00:40:14.04
In the first one when
God listed David's options
00:40:15.38\00:40:18.18
for his disobedience,
00:40:18.18\00:40:19.71
in 2 Samuel, it says
seven years of this famine,
00:40:19.71\00:40:24.55
however in 1 Chronicles, it
says three years of this famine.
00:40:24.55\00:40:28.56
And also, it says,
00:40:28.56\00:40:30.59
"The threshing floor
of Araunah the Jebusite"
00:40:30.59\00:40:33.80
in 2 Samuel, but in
1 Chronicles it says,
00:40:33.80\00:40:36.50
"The threshing floor
of Ornan the Jebusite."
00:40:36.50\00:40:39.67
- Alright, on
the second question,
00:40:39.67\00:40:41.57
those names are the same.
00:40:41.57\00:40:43.20
Keep in mind, they
didn't have the same spelling,
00:40:44.67\00:40:47.31
alphabet that we use.
00:40:47.31\00:40:49.18
And when you translate from
Hebrew and Aramaic to Greek,
00:40:49.18\00:40:54.15
and then now to English,
00:40:56.32\00:40:58.52
folks are sometimes
wondering what letters to use
00:40:58.52\00:41:00.59
for people to
articulate pronunciation,
00:41:00.59\00:41:03.93
but it's the same person.
00:41:03.93\00:41:05.33
This is the Jebusite who owned
the property on Mount Moriah.
00:41:05.33\00:41:08.23
He had the threshing floor there
00:41:08.23\00:41:10.13
and David wanted to buy
that to offer to the Lord.
00:41:10.13\00:41:12.50
That later became the place
00:41:12.50\00:41:13.60
where the temple was
built on Mount Moriah
00:41:13.60\00:41:15.77
and it's still there today
where the Dome of the Rock is,
00:41:15.77\00:41:18.11
that was the threshing floor
of Ornan according to 2 Samuel.
00:41:18.11\00:41:22.08
The better
question you're asking is,
00:41:22.08\00:41:24.01
why does it say that Nathan
the prophet offered seven years
00:41:24.01\00:41:26.92
of famine in one place
and three years of famine
00:41:26.92\00:41:30.35
in another?
00:41:30.35\00:41:31.75
You know, the best answer
I think I can give you is,
00:41:31.75\00:41:34.09
the Bible's inspired,
00:41:34.09\00:41:35.69
but sometimes the copyists
and the translations are not.
00:41:35.69\00:41:39.59
And as you go from
one copy to another,
00:41:39.59\00:41:42.06
sometimes there may have
been a number that was missed,
00:41:42.06\00:41:46.03
they look at it and
there's very little difference.
00:41:46.03\00:41:49.47
I'll give you a quick example.
00:41:49.47\00:41:51.64
I was a hooligan
when I was a kid,
00:41:51.64\00:41:54.04
and so I wanted to buy
alcohol though I was too young.
00:41:54.04\00:41:57.61
I was born in 1957,
00:41:57.61\00:41:59.71
I took my
driver's permit when I was,
00:41:59.71\00:42:03.25
oh, I think it was only 14.
00:42:03.25\00:42:04.92
And I took the seven
and turned it into a two.
00:42:04.92\00:42:08.59
It was very easy to
do, small little line,
00:42:08.59\00:42:11.56
and it worked for years.
00:42:11.56\00:42:13.36
And sometimes one little
tittle changes the number
00:42:13.36\00:42:16.60
and it's probably
that the manuscript
00:42:16.60\00:42:18.63
that they were reading,
00:42:18.63\00:42:19.77
the seven and the two
was hard to determine,
00:42:19.77\00:42:22.07
so those who
translated from 2 Chronicles,
00:42:22.07\00:42:26.54
they saw that as a two and
another one saw it as a seven
00:42:27.88\00:42:31.01
or three, rather.
00:42:31.01\00:42:32.41
So yeah, there are some minor
things like that in the Bible
00:42:32.41\00:42:35.92
that are conundrums.
00:42:35.92\00:42:37.59
- You know, it is
interesting in the Septuagint,
00:42:37.59\00:42:39.79
which is the Greek translation
of the Hebrew Old Testament
00:42:39.79\00:42:42.16
which was in
existence at the time of Christ,
00:42:42.16\00:42:44.73
they translate the seven years
00:42:44.73\00:42:46.93
as three years here in 2 Samuel.
00:42:46.93\00:42:50.00
- Oh, so they do the same?
00:42:50.00\00:42:50.97
- So there's no conflict.
00:42:50.97\00:42:51.93
- No conflict in the Septuagint.
00:42:51.93\00:42:52.77
- In the Septuagint.
00:42:52.77\00:42:53.74
- Well, that's a good point.
00:42:53.74\00:42:54.57
Oh, there you go.
00:42:54.57\00:42:55.54
- It's both three months, so.
00:42:55.54\00:42:56.67
- 3 years. - Or rather 3 years.
00:42:56.67\00:42:58.17
Alright, thanks for your call.
00:42:58.17\00:42:59.41
Our next caller that we have
00:42:59.41\00:43:00.54
is Melissa
listening from California.
00:43:00.54\00:43:02.58
Melissa, welcome to the program.
00:43:02.58\00:43:04.75
- [Melissa] So I'm a
little stumped on Luke 5.
00:43:04.75\00:43:09.22
Jesus is demonstrating to
His disciples the ministry
00:43:09.22\00:43:13.19
and the path of it,
00:43:13.19\00:43:14.52
but before the parable is
introduced from verse 6 to 39,
00:43:14.52\00:43:19.06
He refers to fasting with them
00:43:19.06\00:43:23.60
and then He says
that then they will fast
00:43:23.60\00:43:27.94
in those days when
they're taken away.
00:43:27.94\00:43:30.44
And then the parable goes on
00:43:30.44\00:43:31.54
if you wanna read
it for the callers.
00:43:31.54\00:43:33.78
I'm assuming, and
I don't wanna assume,
00:43:33.78\00:43:36.21
that's why I'm calling,
00:43:36.21\00:43:37.25
that it's
referring to sin itself.
00:43:37.25\00:43:41.88
- Well, let me read this.
00:43:41.88\00:43:42.68
It says, Jesus said in verse 36,
00:43:42.68\00:43:46.12
and this is a Luke 5.
00:43:46.12\00:43:49.76
He said, "No one puts a piece
of new garment on an old one,
00:43:49.76\00:43:52.96
otherwise the new makes a tear,
00:43:52.96\00:43:54.83
and also the
piece that was taken out
00:43:54.83\00:43:56.56
of the new garment
does not match the old.
00:43:56.56\00:43:58.37
And no one puts new
wine in old wineskins
00:43:58.37\00:44:02.34
or else a new wine will burst
the wineskins and be spilled,
00:44:02.34\00:44:05.31
and the
wineskins will be ruined.
00:44:05.31\00:44:07.28
But new wine must be
put into new wineskins
00:44:07.28\00:44:09.91
and both are preserved.
00:44:09.91\00:44:11.28
And no one having drunk old
wine immediately desires new,
00:44:11.28\00:44:14.62
for he says,
'The old is better.'"
00:44:14.62\00:44:16.15
Christ is talking about
00:44:16.15\00:44:17.29
that people were
gonna struggle with change.
00:44:17.29\00:44:21.22
He had come to
bring the new wine,
00:44:21.22\00:44:23.96
by the way, which is
unfermented, of the Gospel,
00:44:23.96\00:44:26.93
but a lot of the religious
leaders had become intoxicated
00:44:26.93\00:44:30.10
by their traditions.
00:44:30.10\00:44:31.97
And He said, you know,
00:44:31.97\00:44:33.34
"I'm gonna have to put the
new wine in new wineskins."
00:44:33.34\00:44:35.60
Meaning the apostles.
00:44:35.60\00:44:36.91
He didn't go to the
scribes and the Pharisees
00:44:36.91\00:44:39.51
and the priests, they
were settled in their ways,
00:44:39.51\00:44:41.61
they would not listen,
00:44:41.61\00:44:42.94
He went to shepherds and
fishermen and tax collectors
00:44:42.94\00:44:47.92
and He put the new
truth, the fresh truth in them
00:44:47.92\00:44:51.79
and they were
ready to receive it.
00:44:51.79\00:44:55.12
- You know, it's also
interesting, you've got the,
00:44:55.12\00:44:57.53
in the first part of
the parable, new garment,
00:44:57.53\00:44:59.89
nobody puts a new piece
of cloth on an old garment.
00:44:59.89\00:45:03.20
Well, in the Bible,
garments often have to do-
00:45:03.20\00:45:05.60
or a symbol of righteousness.
00:45:05.60\00:45:07.50
And you have the
Pharisees who prided themselves
00:45:07.50\00:45:09.57
in their own righteousness
00:45:09.57\00:45:11.04
and they rejected the
righteousness that Jesus came to
00:45:11.04\00:45:14.08
give and they of course
claimed their own doctrine
00:45:14.08\00:45:16.18
and they didn't
wanna receive the new wine
00:45:16.18\00:45:17.78
or the doctrine or
the teaching of Christ.
00:45:17.78\00:45:19.75
So really Jesus is
addressing something that,
00:45:19.75\00:45:22.38
well, the
disciples were aware of.
00:45:23.42\00:45:24.39
Why didn't the
Pharisees accept Jesus?
00:45:24.39\00:45:26.35
Why didn't they
accept His teaching?
00:45:26.35\00:45:28.12
Well, because they were
clinging to their old ways
00:45:28.12\00:45:29.89
and they didn't
wanna receive the new,
00:45:29.89\00:45:32.03
the Gospel that
Jesus came to give.
00:45:32.03\00:45:34.30
- Thank you, Melissa.
00:45:34.30\00:45:35.43
Good question, hope
that helps a little.
00:45:35.43\00:45:37.47
- [Melissa] Yes, it does.
00:45:37.47\00:45:38.83
Just one more comment...
that kind of explains for,
00:45:38.83\00:45:42.60
I guess, the Church itself,
00:45:42.60\00:45:44.41
it's, they kind
of implement things
00:45:44.41\00:45:46.94
in various churches
maybe because of their ideas.
00:45:46.94\00:45:52.01
- Yeah, sometimes it's tradition
00:45:52.81\00:45:54.25
and they're not going
by the Scriptures, yeah.
00:45:54.25\00:45:56.22
- Yeah, okay. - Absolutely.
00:45:56.22\00:45:57.55
- Amen. - Thank you.
00:45:57.55\00:45:58.75
- [Melissa] Thank you.
00:45:58.75\00:46:00.19
- Next caller that we have
is Adley listening from Canada.
00:46:00.19\00:46:03.69
Adley, welcome to the program.
00:46:03.69\00:46:05.43
- [Adley] Thank you.
00:46:06.90\00:46:07.73
This is my first time.
00:46:07.73\00:46:10.53
So my question is
why did God choose Mary
00:46:10.53\00:46:15.37
to be Jesus' mommy?
00:46:15.37\00:46:17.84
- Okay, thank you, Adley.
00:46:18.64\00:46:19.94
And it says in our notes
here, Adley's five years old.
00:46:19.94\00:46:22.58
Love to hear the
young people calling in
00:46:22.58\00:46:25.01
with their Bible questions.
00:46:25.01\00:46:26.41
Well, we believe that
the Lord chose Mary because
00:46:27.78\00:46:29.72
He knew in her heart
that she was sincere,
00:46:29.72\00:46:32.92
that she wanted to serve God
00:46:32.92\00:46:34.92
and that she had faith
00:46:34.92\00:46:38.03
and she had lived a life
where she was dedicated to God.
00:46:38.03\00:46:41.93
And so the Lord was
looking for a young lady
00:46:41.93\00:46:44.43
who could be the mother,
00:46:44.43\00:46:45.77
who would raise Jesus
with devotion, with love,
00:46:45.77\00:46:49.27
that would teach Him the Bible,
00:46:49.27\00:46:50.84
that would be a good example,
that would be a good mother,
00:46:50.84\00:46:53.44
watch over Him and protect Him.
00:46:53.44\00:46:55.11
And Mary had
those characteristics
00:46:55.11\00:46:57.31
and God chose her for that.
00:46:57.31\00:46:59.55
And so, wonderful opportunity
and great responsibility.
00:46:59.55\00:47:04.62
Thank you for your call, Adley.
00:47:05.42\00:47:06.55
- Next caller
that we have is Tayvion
00:47:06.55\00:47:09.06
listening from Illinois.
00:47:09.06\00:47:10.56
Tayvion, welcome to the program.
00:47:10.56\00:47:12.83
- [Tayvion] Hey, you
got it right this time!
00:47:12.83\00:47:14.56
- Alright! We're learning.
00:47:14.56\00:47:17.53
- [Tayvion] (laughter)
No, but my question is that,
00:47:17.53\00:47:20.87
so like for the promises of God
00:47:22.70\00:47:24.41
and essentially for what
I'm understanding by faith
00:47:24.41\00:47:27.51
after years of
being a Christian,
00:47:27.51\00:47:29.61
is it okay for me
to claim something
00:47:30.75\00:47:32.61
even though I
haven't received it yet
00:47:32.61\00:47:34.88
or I don't feel it?
00:47:34.88\00:47:36.85
- Well, yeah.
00:47:38.39\00:47:39.72
In some cases if you've met
the criteria of a Bible promise,
00:47:39.72\00:47:42.49
then believe.
00:47:42.49\00:47:43.83
You know, for example,
just start with salvation
00:47:43.83\00:47:46.29
When if you repent of your
sins and you confess your sins,
00:47:48.10\00:47:52.40
the Bible says, "If we confess
our sins He is faithful."
00:47:52.40\00:47:55.44
This is 1 John 1:9,
00:47:55.44\00:47:58.61
"He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins
00:47:58.61\00:48:01.71
and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness."
00:48:01.71\00:48:04.81
Don't wait until you
feel like you're cleansed,
00:48:04.81\00:48:07.02
believe it, thank
Him for forgiving you
00:48:07.02\00:48:09.35
and you will feel
better because of your faith.
00:48:09.35\00:48:12.55
So there are cases where
God makes a promise and He says,
00:48:12.55\00:48:16.42
you know, for
instance, God says, you know,
00:48:16.42\00:48:18.09
"Fear not, I'm with you."
00:48:18.09\00:48:19.73
Well, you may not
feel like He's with you,
00:48:19.73\00:48:21.40
you may not see Him with you,
00:48:21.40\00:48:23.16
but you can claim the promise
that He said He's with you,
00:48:23.16\00:48:25.67
believe it by faith
and you'll feel better!
00:48:25.67\00:48:29.00
- You know, the Bible says that
the righteous walk by faith,
00:48:29.00\00:48:31.47
not by sight.
00:48:31.47\00:48:32.57
So it's just
claiming the promises of God
00:48:32.57\00:48:33.71
and just holding onto them,
00:48:33.71\00:48:35.08
and like you said,
the feelings come later,
00:48:35.08\00:48:37.15
but they don't always
come first, faith comes first.
00:48:37.15\00:48:39.95
- Yeah, now just
let me add to this
00:48:39.95\00:48:41.45
because some people will
misunderstand the faith and
00:48:41.45\00:48:45.82
action, and you know,
I've heard preachers say,
00:48:45.82\00:48:48.49
"Just claim God that
you're gonna have the money
00:48:48.49\00:48:50.73
to pay for that new
house you're buying."
00:48:50.73\00:48:52.69
And so a person says,
00:48:52.69\00:48:53.80
"I just believe that
God wants to bless me
00:48:53.80\00:48:55.96
and He's gonna help
me buy that new house
00:48:55.96\00:48:57.53
and I'm gonna put
down the down payment.
00:48:57.53\00:48:58.90
Even though I
don't have a job yet,
00:48:58.90\00:49:00.57
I'm gonna trust that ..."
00:49:00.57\00:49:02.20
And they get into debt,
00:49:02.20\00:49:03.27
they're kind of
being presumptuous,
00:49:03.27\00:49:04.54
that's called tempting the Lord.
00:49:04.54\00:49:05.84
So, there's a delicate
balance between claiming
00:49:05.84\00:49:10.31
the promises of
God and having faith
00:49:10.31\00:49:11.98
and stepping out in faith.
00:49:11.98\00:49:13.82
And you wanna be careful
not to abuse the promises of God
00:49:13.82\00:49:16.58
and be
presumptuous or tempt the Lord.
00:49:16.58\00:49:18.62
So I don't know
if that helps answer
00:49:18.62\00:49:21.06
what you're saying, Tayvion.
00:49:21.06\00:49:23.02
- [Tayvion] Oh,
no, it does, thank you.
00:49:23.02\00:49:24.76
- Yeah.
00:49:24.76\00:49:25.56
Alrighty, thank you so much.
00:49:25.56\00:49:26.23
Appreciate your call.
00:49:26.23\00:49:27.76
- We've got Lance
listening in Texas.
00:49:27.76\00:49:29.43
Lance, welcome to the program.
00:49:29.43\00:49:31.00
- [Lance] Hi.
00:49:32.53\00:49:34.10
Nice to meet you guys.
00:49:34.10\00:49:35.27
- Thanks for calling.
00:49:36.10\00:49:37.94
- [Lance] So if a
married couple divorced
00:49:37.94\00:49:43.01
with no biblical
reason and they marry again,
00:49:44.11\00:49:47.45
are they gonna be living in a
constant,eternal state of sin?
00:49:49.58\00:49:54.52
And then, my second
question related to that,
00:49:55.82\00:49:58.26
I mean, if that's the case,
00:49:59.29\00:50:03.13
should they divorce
and remain single forever?
00:50:03.13\00:50:06.10
- Yeah, it's a good and
it's a practical question.
00:50:07.47\00:50:09.67
Sometimes people
have what you would call
00:50:09.67\00:50:11.91
irreconcilable differences.
00:50:11.91\00:50:14.54
Nobody has committed adultery,
00:50:14.54\00:50:16.41
you know, the
biblical grounds for divorce
00:50:16.41\00:50:18.25
is if there's
fornication or unfaithfulness.
00:50:18.25\00:50:21.32
And there may be a
couple and they just say,
00:50:21.32\00:50:23.39
"Oh man, we just
can't handle this anymore,"
00:50:23.39\00:50:25.32
and they separate,
00:50:25.32\00:50:26.42
they don't have
biblical grounds,
00:50:26.42\00:50:28.12
then are they free to remarry?
00:50:28.12\00:50:29.46
According to the Bible,
they're not free to remarry.
00:50:29.46\00:50:32.93
Paul even says you might
be better to remain single.
00:50:32.93\00:50:35.80
Now if one
partner, and this is often,
00:50:35.80\00:50:38.23
to be honest, sometimes
they play the waiting game
00:50:38.23\00:50:41.40
and they wait for the
other one to get married again
00:50:41.40\00:50:44.87
and they say,
00:50:44.87\00:50:46.07
"Well, now they've
broken the wedding vow,
00:50:46.07\00:50:46.91
now I can get married."
00:50:46.91\00:50:48.31
And that's not
the right attitude.
00:50:48.31\00:50:49.91
So then you have a third
question embedded in your
00:50:49.91\00:50:53.45
question and that is, are
they living in perpetual sin?
00:50:53.45\00:50:56.18
Well, I know a lot of people
00:50:56.18\00:50:57.49
that maybe have
gotten divorced and remarried
00:50:57.49\00:50:59.19
and they do not
have biblical grounds,
00:50:59.19\00:51:01.16
but then they later go
through a real conversion.
00:51:01.16\00:51:03.79
An example would be King David.
00:51:03.79\00:51:05.76
King David definitely
did not have biblical grounds
00:51:05.76\00:51:08.13
for taking Bathsheba
and killing her husband,
00:51:08.13\00:51:11.23
but after David thoroughly
repented and they actually,
00:51:11.23\00:51:13.77
I mean, they
suffered, he lost the baby
00:51:13.77\00:51:15.60
and a son and lost actual
several sons because of his sin,
00:51:15.60\00:51:19.11
the Bible says,
David comforted his wife.
00:51:20.21\00:51:22.68
God refers to
Bathsheba as David's wife.
00:51:22.68\00:51:25.31
Solomon then later
comes through Bathsheba
00:51:25.31\00:51:28.12
and so does Jesus.
00:51:28.12\00:51:28.92
So He ultimately forgave her.
00:51:28.92\00:51:31.12
He forgave the
woman who was at the well
00:51:31.12\00:51:35.62
who had had five husbands,
00:51:35.62\00:51:36.76
and when Abraham
had an affair with Hagar
00:51:36.76\00:51:39.49
or you know, had a concubine,
00:51:39.49\00:51:41.53
she was sent away
and Sarah was his wife.
00:51:41.53\00:51:45.20
And so, you know,
sometimes we scramble the eggs
00:51:45.20\00:51:49.04
and you can't unscramble 'em,
00:51:49.04\00:51:50.51
but it doesn't mean that
this is the unpardonable sin.
00:51:50.51\00:51:53.24
But I don't wanna leave
people with the impression
00:51:53.24\00:51:55.31
that they can just
get married and divorced
00:51:55.31\00:51:56.81
and married and divorced.
00:51:56.81\00:51:58.18
The Bible is
clear that that is a sin
00:51:58.18\00:52:00.42
and it hurts families, it
hurts people, it hurts society.
00:52:00.42\00:52:04.09
- You know, we do have a book,
00:52:04.09\00:52:05.19
Pastor Doug,
dealing with the subject.
00:52:05.19\00:52:06.29
It's called "Marriage,
Divorce and Remarriage."
00:52:06.29\00:52:08.46
And we'll be happy to
send this to anyone who wants
00:52:08.46\00:52:10.13
to learn more about
what does the Bible say
00:52:10.13\00:52:11.76
on the subject of marriage?
00:52:11.76\00:52:13.46
The number for
that is 800-835-6747,
00:52:13.46\00:52:16.67
that is our resource phone line
00:52:16.67\00:52:18.60
and you can ask for
the book, it's called,
00:52:18.60\00:52:20.00
"Marriage,
Divorce and Remarriage."
00:52:20.00\00:52:21.60
We'll be happy to send it
to anyone in North America.
00:52:21.60\00:52:24.64
Thanks for your call, Lance.
00:52:24.64\00:52:25.87
We got Claudette
listening from New Jersey.
00:52:25.87\00:52:28.71
Claudette,
welcome to the program.
00:52:28.71\00:52:30.48
- [Claudette]
Hello, good evening.
00:52:31.81\00:52:33.18
- Evening.
00:52:33.18\00:52:34.25
- [Claudette] Thank
you for taking my call!
00:52:34.25\00:52:37.25
- Yeah and your
question tonight?
00:52:37.25\00:52:39.35
- [Claudette] Yes, this
is my first time calling.
00:52:39.35\00:52:41.39
I would like you
to explain for me
00:52:41.39\00:52:44.53
why the Lord's Prayer in
Matthew 6:9-13 is different
00:52:44.53\00:52:49.56
from the one in Luke 11:2-4?
00:52:54.57\00:52:57.07
And the second
part of my question is,
00:53:00.64\00:53:02.58
in verse 4 it ends,
"But deliver us from evil,"
00:53:03.68\00:53:07.88
while in Matthew it
ends with (verse 13)
00:53:07.88\00:53:12.95
"For Thine is the kingdom
00:53:13.76\00:53:15.39
and the power and
the glory forever, amen."
00:53:15.39\00:53:18.49
- Alright,
Claudette, good question.
00:53:18.49\00:53:20.30
Let's talk about that.
00:53:20.30\00:53:21.63
When the Lord gives the,
00:53:21.63\00:53:23.30
what we call the Lord's Prayer,
00:53:23.30\00:53:24.87
it's actually not
the Lord's Prayer.
00:53:24.87\00:53:26.40
If you wanna know
the Lord's Prayer,
00:53:26.40\00:53:27.60
that's probably John 17.
00:53:27.60\00:53:29.84
It's actually a
prayer for the disciples.
00:53:29.84\00:53:32.14
And He says, "When you
pray, pray in this manner."
00:53:32.14\00:53:35.21
Now when you read it in Matthew,
00:53:35.21\00:53:37.25
and that would
be in Matthew 6:9,
00:53:37.25\00:53:40.68
it says "When you
pray, pray in this manner."
00:53:40.68\00:53:42.58
Jesus probably
repeated this more than one time
00:53:42.58\00:53:45.95
and told them that this
is a pattern for prayer,
00:53:45.95\00:53:49.12
meaning you don't have to
say it exactly the same way,
00:53:49.12\00:53:52.43
they're points and
they're principles.
00:53:52.43\00:53:54.56
And what I love
about the Lord's Prayer
00:53:54.56\00:53:57.60
is you've actually
got seven petitions
00:53:57.60\00:54:00.20
that you find there
in the Lord's Prayer.
00:54:00.20\00:54:02.67
And it's kind of divided
up like the 10 commandments,
00:54:02.67\00:54:05.47
where you've got
the first 40% deals
00:54:05.47\00:54:07.21
with our relationship with God,
00:54:07.21\00:54:09.24
the last 60% deals with our
relationship with each other,
00:54:09.24\00:54:12.81
talks about.. it says, "Thy
name, Thy kingdom, Thy will,"
00:54:12.81\00:54:17.12
are the first three petitions.
00:54:17.12\00:54:18.89
And then you've got, you know,
00:54:18.89\00:54:20.86
"Give us, forgive
us, lead us, deliver us"
00:54:20.86\00:54:25.76
in the later petitions.
00:54:25.76\00:54:28.10
And so it's
divided up by, you know,
00:54:28.10\00:54:32.50
same way as the 10 commandments.
00:54:32.50\00:54:33.57
So same principles.
00:54:33.57\00:54:34.97
So, Claudette, I think that
Jesus said the Lord's Prayer
00:54:34.97\00:54:37.54
to the disciples
more than one time.
00:54:37.54\00:54:39.47
As He went from town to town
00:54:39.47\00:54:40.58
and He would teach
people how to pray,
00:54:40.58\00:54:42.31
sometimes He tells His parables
00:54:42.31\00:54:43.41
with a little
different spin, you'll see that.
00:54:43.41\00:54:46.08
Hey, listening
friends, thank you.
00:54:46.08\00:54:47.92
I don't think we have
time to take another call,
00:54:47.92\00:54:50.09
but we do wanna remind you

in Granite Bay, California.
00:55:23.32\00:55:27.52
- Hello, friends.
00:55:28.72\00:55:29.76
Welcome back to
"Bible Answers Live."
00:55:29.76\00:55:31.59
For those of you who stayed by,
00:55:31.59\00:55:32.93
we took a little break because
00:55:32.93\00:55:34.10
of our friend
on satellite radio,
00:55:34.10\00:55:35.80
they had to close the
program just a little earlier.
00:55:35.80\00:55:38.17
We wanna thank you
for your many questions
00:55:38.17\00:55:39.73
that you've emailed to us,
00:55:39.73\00:55:40.97
and Pastor
Doug, we are gonna try
00:55:40.97\00:55:42.40
and answer as
many of these questions
00:55:42.40\00:55:43.71
as we can in the
next two minutes or so.
00:55:43.71\00:55:46.07
So here's the first one.
00:55:46.07\00:55:47.18
The question is "When
will Armageddon occur?"
00:55:47.18\00:55:50.08
- Well, Armageddon, of
course, it's in the future.
00:55:51.38\00:55:53.05
It's not a battle
between China and Russia,
00:55:53.05\00:55:56.15
and people are paying a lot
of attention to Russia right now
00:55:56.15\00:55:59.02
and Israel or
anything like that.
00:55:59.02\00:56:01.16
Now, Armageddon, it says is
00:56:01.16\00:56:02.72
when the dragon
makes war against the woman
00:56:02.72\00:56:05.33
and you see Jesus
coming in Revelation 19
00:56:05.33\00:56:08.63
conquering to deliver His bride.
00:56:08.63\00:56:11.20
The ultimate part of
Armageddon is at the end
00:56:11.20\00:56:13.74
of the 1000 years when God
totally defeats the enemies
00:56:13.74\00:56:18.01
of His people.
00:56:18.01\00:56:19.04
- Okay, another
question that we have,
00:56:19.04\00:56:20.44
"How long was the timeframe
of the 10 plagues of Egypt?"
00:56:20.44\00:56:25.15
- The Bible doesn't
tell us specifically
00:56:25.15\00:56:26.88
the dates or
months or weeks or days,
00:56:26.88\00:56:30.32
but based on the context,
00:56:30.32\00:56:32.32
it seems like the plagues come
back to back rather quickly,
00:56:32.32\00:56:35.62
something like the
trials that came to Job,
00:56:35.62\00:56:38.23
it seems like they came
one right after another.
00:56:38.23\00:56:40.50
And so we think it was
probably a matter of months,
00:56:40.50\00:56:43.87
probably all of
it happened somewhere
00:56:43.87\00:56:46.03
in the span of
about 45 days or so.
00:56:46.03\00:56:51.11
- Okay, another question is,
00:56:51.91\00:56:53.17
"In Hebrews 1:4,
speaking of Jesus, it says,
00:56:53.17\00:56:55.78
'Having been made
better than angels.'
00:56:55.78\00:56:57.78
Can you explain?"
00:56:57.78\00:56:58.91
- Yeah, well,
Christ of course is,
00:56:59.95\00:57:02.38
He is the
angel-maker because, you know,
00:57:02.38\00:57:05.32
He made all things
that have been made,
00:57:05.32\00:57:07.92
but He also became a man.
00:57:07.92\00:57:11.39
But after His resurrection,
He is higher than the angels
00:57:11.39\00:57:14.00
'cause the angels worship Him.
00:57:14.00\00:57:15.96
And so the only one we're
supposed to worship is God.
00:57:15.96\00:57:18.97
So that's why it's
saying Jesus is not just a man,
00:57:18.97\00:57:21.77
He's better than the angels
'cause the angels worship Him.
00:57:21.77\00:57:24.51
- Okay, next question is,
00:57:24.51\00:57:26.74
"Is the Elijah message the same
00:57:26.74\00:57:28.94
as the three angels
messages of Revelation 14?"
00:57:28.94\00:57:32.05
- Well, the
final Elijah message,
00:57:33.15\00:57:34.95
it's talking about a message
00:57:34.95\00:57:36.05
that brings the
Church to revival is gonna
00:57:36.05\00:57:38.79
be done during the same time
as the three angels message,
00:57:38.79\00:57:41.69
but it's more of a
message of calling people
00:57:41.69\00:57:44.36
to return to God,
00:57:44.36\00:57:45.69
whereas the three angels
message is more specifically
00:57:45.69\00:57:48.86
warning people
about the coming judgment,
00:57:48.86\00:57:51.17
coming out of Babylon,
00:57:51.17\00:57:52.50
the mark of the beast
and the coming of Christ.
00:57:52.50\00:57:54.57
- Okay, well, Pastor Doug,
00:57:54.57\00:57:55.67
that's probably it
for all of our questions
00:57:55.67\00:57:57.51
for this evening.
00:57:57.51\00:57:58.87
Just a reminder,
friends, if you have a question,
00:57:58.87\00:58:00.28
