Welcome to "Bible Answers Live". 00:00:50.31\00:00:52.61 Pastor Doug is out this evening, 00:00:52.61\00:00:53.92 but we are glad you are tuning in. 00:00:53.92\00:00:55.85 Hey, how about an amazing fact? 00:00:55.85\00:00:58.05 Sean Swarner knows what it's like to face impossibilities. 00:00:58.05\00:01:01.89 At the age of 13, he came down with Hodgkin's disease. 00:01:01.89\00:01:05.26 The doctors didn't think he would survive, but he did. 00:01:05.26\00:01:08.46 When he was 16, he contracted Askin's sarcoma, 00:01:08.46\00:01:11.60 a rare cancer that attaches itself 00:01:11.60\00:01:13.77 to the walls of his chest. 00:01:13.77\00:01:15.47 His chance of survival was very small. 00:01:15.47\00:01:18.01 His treatment required him 00:01:18.01\00:01:19.27 to be put into an induced coma for a year. 00:01:19.27\00:01:22.51 At one point, his parents were told 00:01:22.51\00:01:24.25 that he only had two weeks to live, 00:01:24.25\00:01:26.48 and yet amazingly he survived, 00:01:26.48\00:01:28.85 although permanently he lost the use of one of his lungs. 00:01:28.85\00:01:32.22 During the months of recovery that followed, 00:01:32.22\00:01:34.09 he was inspired by the following quotation, 00:01:34.09\00:01:36.79 "The human body can live roughly 30 days without food, 00:01:36.79\00:01:40.30 the human condition can sustain itself 00:01:40.30\00:01:42.30 for roughly three days without water, but no human alive 00:01:42.30\00:01:46.20 can live for more than 30 seconds without hope." 00:01:46.20\00:01:49.50 He decided to test the infinite possibilities of hope. 00:01:49.50\00:01:53.64 His first challenge was to crawl eight feet 00:01:53.64\00:01:55.61 from his hospital bed to the bathroom. 00:01:55.61\00:01:58.18 A few years later, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. 00:01:58.18\00:02:02.18 But he hadn't yet begun to test the infinite limits of hope. 00:02:02.18\00:02:05.82 Over the next several years, Sean, with a single lung 00:02:05.82\00:02:09.09 scaled the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents 00:02:09.09\00:02:12.76 and became the first cancer survivor 00:02:12.76\00:02:14.73 to stand on top of Mount Everest. 00:02:14.73\00:02:17.27 In his 40s, he skied to the North and South poles. 00:02:17.27\00:02:21.54 And if that wasn't enough, 00:02:21.54\00:02:22.77 his next challenge was to travel to Hawaii 00:02:22.77\00:02:25.44 and compete in the Ironman Will Competition. 00:02:25.44\00:02:28.68 This cancer survivor, who was given just two weeks to live, 00:02:28.68\00:02:32.35 is the only human being 00:02:32.35\00:02:33.85 to have climbed the seven great summits of the world, 00:02:33.85\00:02:36.62 skied to both the North and the South poles 00:02:36.62\00:02:39.32 and competed in the Ironman Championship in Hawaii 00:02:39.32\00:02:42.32 and all of this with only one lung. (chuckles) 00:02:42.32\00:02:46.13 Sean's amazing story reminds us 00:02:46.13\00:02:47.86 that God has given three precious gifts 00:02:47.86\00:02:50.77 that'll remain after everything else is stripped away, 00:02:50.77\00:02:54.24 faith, hope and love. 00:02:54.24\00:02:57.44 Friends, are you facing 00:02:57.44\00:02:58.57 a mountain of challenges in your life? 00:02:58.57\00:03:01.24 Well then, test the possibilities of hope. 00:03:01.24\00:03:04.31 Because the Bible tells us, 00:03:04.31\00:03:05.45 "With God, all things are possible." 00:03:05.45\00:03:08.78 Well, Pastor Carlos, 00:03:08.78\00:03:10.45 when we talk about people that have done incredible feats, 00:03:10.45\00:03:13.39 it reminds us that God is a God 00:03:13.39\00:03:15.59 that is able to do the impossible. 00:03:15.59\00:03:17.43 When you go back and you look in the Bible, 00:03:17.43\00:03:18.89 you see countless stories 00:03:18.89\00:03:20.33 of people that faced impossible odds. 00:03:20.33\00:03:23.30 I think for example of David going up against Goliath, 00:03:23.30\00:03:27.60 you got Gideon who just with 300 men 00:03:27.60\00:03:30.64 he's able to conquer the entire Midianite army 00:03:30.64\00:03:33.68 that counted thousands of soldiers. 00:03:33.68\00:03:37.15 And of course, throughout the Bible, 00:03:37.15\00:03:38.35 you have these incredible stories 00:03:38.35\00:03:39.71 of people who put their trust in God 00:03:39.71\00:03:41.78 and God was able to do for them 00:03:41.78\00:03:43.42 that which they couldn't do for themselves. 00:03:43.42\00:03:45.82 So what about us today? 00:03:45.82\00:03:47.32 I'm sure we all face trials and difficulties in our lives. 00:03:47.32\00:03:49.42 And I think the lesson that we can learn from the Bible 00:03:49.42\00:03:51.83 is that God, the God of the Bible, 00:03:51.83\00:03:54.00 is the God who is God today. - Amen. 00:03:54.00\00:03:56.70 - And we can put our trust in Him 00:03:56.70\00:03:58.67 and He's able to work things out 00:03:58.67\00:04:00.27 according to what ultimately is for our good. 00:04:00.27\00:04:03.14 So we can trust God, 00:04:03.14\00:04:04.47 whatever trials and difficulties we might go through. 00:04:04.47\00:04:06.51 - Amen. 00:04:06.51\00:04:07.74 The only limits are the limits we put 00:04:07.74\00:04:09.21 to not trusting in His promises. 00:04:09.21\00:04:11.28 - That's right. There's power in the Word of God. 00:04:11.28\00:04:12.95 - Amen. - Let it out. 00:04:12.95\00:04:14.42 Well, friends, we have a free gift we wanna give you. 00:04:14.42\00:04:15.88 It's the book entitled "The Riches of His Grace". 00:04:15.88\00:04:18.69 And maybe you're going through 00:04:18.69\00:04:19.82 a difficult time in your life, 00:04:19.82\00:04:21.22 maybe there's some trials and you wonder, 00:04:21.22\00:04:22.66 "Well, Lord, how can I overcome these challenges?" 00:04:22.66\00:04:26.63 We wanna send this book to you for free. 00:04:26.63\00:04:29.33 All you have to do is just call and ask. 00:04:29.33\00:04:30.97 The number to call is 800-835-6747 00:04:30.97\00:04:35.44 and you can ask for the Offer 152. 00:04:35.44\00:04:38.24 Again, the book is called "Riches of His Grace". 00:04:38.24\00:04:41.38 Again, the number is 800-835-6747. 00:04:41.38\00:04:45.61 And if you have a Bible question, 00:04:45.61\00:04:47.12 the number to call here in the studio is 800-463-7297. 00:04:47.12\00:04:51.92 That'll bring your question here to us. 00:04:53.09\00:04:54.69 800-463-7297. 00:04:54.69\00:04:57.56 My name is Jean Ross. 00:04:57.56\00:04:58.73 Pastor Doug is out this evening, 00:04:58.73\00:05:00.56 but working the phones for us is Pastor Carlos Munoz. 00:05:00.56\00:05:03.26 Carlos is our Director 00:05:03.26\00:05:05.67 for the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism. 00:05:05.67\00:05:08.64 Well, before we go to the phone lines, 00:05:08.64\00:05:09.90 let's start with a word of prayer. 00:05:09.90\00:05:11.31 - Sure. 00:05:11.31\00:05:12.51 Father, thank you again for this opportunity 00:05:12.51\00:05:14.44 to come together and open Your Word 00:05:14.44\00:05:16.64 and be able to try to understand 00:05:16.64\00:05:19.28 some of the more difficult questions that may arise 00:05:19.28\00:05:21.45 and any question that may arise, really. 00:05:21.45\00:05:23.45 It's all about getting to know You better. 00:05:23.45\00:05:24.89 So we ask that Your Spirit guide us, direct us, 00:05:24.89\00:05:26.59 and all those that are calling, too. 00:05:26.59\00:05:28.06 And we ask this in Jesus' name. Amen. 00:05:28.06\00:05:30.29 - Amen. Thank you, Pastor Carlos. 00:05:30.29\00:05:32.49 Well friends, we're ready for your Bible question. 00:05:32.49\00:05:34.23 I think we are ready for our first caller. 00:05:34.23\00:05:35.66 Who do we have? - Yes. 00:05:35.66\00:05:37.13 Let's talk with Norman from Oakhurst, California. 00:05:37.13\00:05:40.14 Hello, Norman. You're on the air. 00:05:40.14\00:05:41.90 - [Norman] My question involves the beast of Revelation 18. 00:05:41.90\00:05:46.91 In Revelation it says the seventh 00:05:47.84\00:05:50.68 and eighth king is the Pope. 00:05:50.68\00:05:54.95 Who are the ninth and 10th? 00:05:56.12\00:05:58.55 - Okay. I think I know what you're talking about. 00:05:59.95\00:06:01.59 It also talks about the 10 horns being 10 kings. 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.03 Now of course the Bible doesn't say 00:06:04.03\00:06:05.29 that one of these heads is the Pope, 00:06:05.29\00:06:08.46 but it does give us descriptions 00:06:08.46\00:06:10.40 that if you line it up according to the Bible 00:06:10.40\00:06:12.30 and you allow the Bible to interpret itself, 00:06:12.30\00:06:14.44 yes, the Bible does speak about the papal power 00:06:14.44\00:06:19.17 that for 1,260-years rule during the dark ages 00:06:19.17\00:06:22.84 from 538 until 1798. 00:06:22.84\00:06:25.75 But the Bible also talks about the United States 00:06:25.75\00:06:28.05 as the second beast at Revelation Chapter 13. 00:06:28.05\00:06:30.82 So let me just back up a little bit 00:06:30.82\00:06:32.35 for those who might be new to a study of Revelation. 00:06:32.35\00:06:34.59 In Revelation Chapter 17, you have a woman, 00:06:34.59\00:06:37.26 and a woman in Bible prophecy represents a church 00:06:37.26\00:06:40.50 and she is sitting on a scarlet-colored beast. 00:06:40.50\00:06:43.80 A beast in Bible prophecy represents a political power. 00:06:43.80\00:06:47.17 So here you have a church 00:06:47.17\00:06:48.60 that is controlling a political power or political powers. 00:06:48.60\00:06:52.64 And then the angel explains to John what this image means. 00:06:52.64\00:06:56.78 And he says, "The seven heads of the beast are seven kings." 00:06:56.78\00:07:00.58 And a king in Bible prophecy represents a kingdom. 00:07:00.58\00:07:03.89 He says, "Five are fallen, one is, and one is yet to come. 00:07:03.89\00:07:06.69 And when he comes, he will continue a short space." 00:07:06.69\00:07:09.19 Now, the five Kings that are fallen 00:07:09.19\00:07:11.39 refer to the five principle nations 00:07:11.39\00:07:13.43 that persecuted God's people. 00:07:13.43\00:07:15.70 And the timeframe of the vision, if you look in Chapter 17, 00:07:15.70\00:07:18.57 it's during the height of the papacy's rule 00:07:18.57\00:07:20.84 during the 1,260 years from 538 until 1798. 00:07:20.84\00:07:25.84 So the five kingdoms that persecuted God's people 00:07:27.28\00:07:28.44 in the Old Testament would be Rome, 00:07:28.44\00:07:30.95 and then you have Greece, you have Syria or Persia, 00:07:30.95\00:07:35.32 you have Babylon, and then you have the Assyrians 00:07:35.32\00:07:37.72 that conquered the 10 tribes of the North. 00:07:37.72\00:07:40.52 The one that "is" would refer to the papal power 00:07:40.52\00:07:43.49 during the 1260 years of papal domination rule. 00:07:43.49\00:07:46.59 And then it says, "One is yet to come, 00:07:46.59\00:07:48.33 and when he comes he continues a short space." 00:07:48.33\00:07:51.20 That final beast power or political power represents, 00:07:51.20\00:07:54.27 believe it or not, the United States. 00:07:54.27\00:07:56.71 Now the Bible tells us according to Revelation Chapter 13 00:07:56.71\00:07:59.21 that a time comes when the United States 00:07:59.21\00:08:00.91 begins to speak as a dragon 00:08:00.91\00:08:03.21 and will actually begin to enforce certain types of 00:08:03.21\00:08:07.22 worship. When that time comes, 00:08:07.22\00:08:09.28 then she will also be a persecuting power, 00:08:09.28\00:08:12.05 and thus, she continues a short space. 00:08:12.05\00:08:14.46 And then it talks about the beast is a part of the seven. 00:08:14.46\00:08:17.19 It's one of those principle kingdoms 00:08:17.19\00:08:18.93 that persecuted God's people. 00:08:18.93\00:08:20.66 So when we're talking about these kings or these kingdoms, 00:08:20.66\00:08:23.26 the 10 horns represent 10 divisions of Western Europe 00:08:23.26\00:08:27.60 and refers to a time period when these political powers 00:08:27.60\00:08:31.01 will give their support to the papal power, 00:08:31.01\00:08:33.84 which is yet in the future. 00:08:33.84\00:08:35.54 And that's a whole study we can look at 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.05 a little bit later on. 00:08:37.05\00:08:38.25 For our friends who'd like to learn more 00:08:38.25\00:08:39.61 about Revelation Chapter 17 00:08:39.61\00:08:41.45 and about the beast power of Revelation 13, 00:08:41.45\00:08:44.39 we have a study guide that we'll be happy to send 00:08:44.39\00:08:46.42 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:08:46.42\00:08:48.49 It's simply called... 00:08:48.49\00:08:50.03 well, there's actually two, you can ask for either one. 00:08:50.03\00:08:51.99 You can ask for "The United States in Prophecy", 00:08:51.99\00:08:55.00 and we'll be happy to send you that study guide. 00:08:55.00\00:08:57.00 "The U.S. in Bible Prophecy", 00:08:57.00\00:08:59.23 or just ask for the study guide, "Who is the Anti-Christ?", 00:08:59.23\00:09:02.37 and we will send it to you. 00:09:02.37\00:09:03.64 These are important truths, Pastor Carlos. 00:09:03.64\00:09:05.97 The Bible, especially Revelation, was written 00:09:05.97\00:09:08.34 to help us understand what's happening in the world today. 00:09:08.34\00:09:11.28 And so a thorough study of Revelation is very helpful, 00:09:11.28\00:09:14.68 very important for people who wanna know what's happening. 00:09:14.68\00:09:17.35 As you look at what's happening in the world today, 00:09:17.35\00:09:18.99 and you compare them with what the Bible said, 00:09:18.99\00:09:20.99 we can see where we are in the stream of time. 00:09:20.99\00:09:23.49 So we encourage folks to call and ask for that. 00:09:23.49\00:09:25.33 Again, ask for the study guide, "Who is the Antichrist?" 00:09:25.33\00:09:27.40 or ask for the study guide called "The U.S. in Prophecy" 00:09:27.40\00:09:31.17 and we'll be happy to send both of them 00:09:31.17\00:09:32.67 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:09:32.67\00:09:34.20 - All right. 00:09:34.20\00:09:35.67 Next, we have Brittany from Antelope, California. 00:09:35.67\00:09:38.01 Good evening, Brittany. You're on the air. 00:09:38.01\00:09:40.48 - [Brittany] Is it okay for a Christian to eat turkey? 00:09:40.48\00:09:44.98 - Okay. (laughs) 00:09:44.98\00:09:46.51 Well, Biblically speaking, yes, you can eat turkey. 00:09:46.51\00:09:49.18 Turkey would considered a clean animal. 00:09:49.18\00:09:51.72 The Bible gives us a distinction 00:09:51.72\00:09:53.32 between animals clean and unclean. 00:09:53.32\00:09:55.56 When it comes to birds, 00:09:55.56\00:09:57.09 the principle that we find given in Scripture 00:09:57.09\00:09:58.96 is they need to be a foraging bird. 00:09:58.96\00:10:00.86 They need to be eating primarily seeds 00:10:00.86\00:10:04.40 and things that fall to the ground, 00:10:04.40\00:10:07.07 bits of plant and that type of thing. 00:10:07.07\00:10:08.80 So chickens, turkeys, in those category 00:10:08.80\00:10:12.61 would be considered clean, you are allowed to eat them, 00:10:12.61\00:10:16.08 but of course, the ideal diet 00:10:16.08\00:10:18.21 and you probably know this, if you're looking to the Bible, 00:10:18.21\00:10:20.02 the healthiest diet is a plant-based diet, 00:10:20.02\00:10:23.49 a vegetarian diet. 00:10:23.49\00:10:24.52 That was the original diet 00:10:24.52\00:10:25.99 that God gave to Adam and Eve in the beginning. 00:10:25.99\00:10:27.92 And I think that's the goal we wanna try 00:10:27.92\00:10:29.89 and be as healthy as we can. 00:10:29.89\00:10:31.53 The Bible says your body's the temple of the Holy Spirit. 00:10:31.53\00:10:34.30 But to eat turkey is definitely not a sin. 00:10:34.30\00:10:36.90 The Bible does allow it. 00:10:36.90\00:10:38.23 It is a clean animal. 00:10:39.57\00:10:41.10 So yes, if you wanna have a little piece of turkey 00:10:41.10\00:10:43.54 for Thanksgiving, you'll be okay. 00:10:43.54\00:10:46.44 - [Brittany] Okay. Thanks. 00:10:46.44\00:10:47.64 - All right. - I was just wondering 00:10:47.64\00:10:49.24 because the passage that I was thinking of 00:10:49.24\00:10:52.98 in regards to that was Leviticus 19:26, 00:10:52.98\00:10:55.88 in which it mentioned the idea of eating meat 00:10:57.09\00:10:59.95 with the blood in it. 00:10:59.95\00:11:01.29 I don't know if that has anything to do with it. 00:11:01.29\00:11:02.72 - Well, yes, that is true. 00:11:02.72\00:11:04.23 If somebody is gonna eat meat, 00:11:04.23\00:11:06.33 you wanna make sure that you're not eating the blood 00:11:06.33\00:11:08.93 because there's all kinds of toxins in the blood 00:11:08.93\00:11:11.43 and that's not healthy. 00:11:11.43\00:11:12.53 Now that doesn't mean 00:11:12.53\00:11:13.80 you're gonna be able to avoid all blood. 00:11:13.80\00:11:15.27 But the Bible did say that you shouldn't be eating blood 00:11:15.27\00:11:18.44 and you shouldn't be eating fat. 00:11:18.44\00:11:19.91 So if somebody's gonna eat meat, 00:11:19.91\00:11:21.44 they wanna cut away as much of the fat as they can. 00:11:21.44\00:11:24.15 They wanna make sure that whatever meat it is 00:11:24.15\00:11:26.75 that they're eating is not soaked in blood. 00:11:26.75\00:11:29.08 You wanna try and cook it well enough to remove the blood. 00:11:29.08\00:11:32.29 So those are some of the principles also 00:11:32.29\00:11:34.09 that we find in the Bible. 00:11:34.09\00:11:35.72 - All right. 00:11:35.72\00:11:36.99 Next we have Danny, Danny from Arizona. 00:11:36.99\00:11:38.69 Good evening, Danny. You're on the air. 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.60 - [Danny] So I know that once we get to heaven, 00:11:40.60\00:11:43.53 everything's gonna be sin-free, and whatnot. 00:11:43.53\00:11:47.10 Praise the Lord for that. 00:11:47.10\00:11:49.04 I was wondering will the 10 commandments 00:11:49.04\00:11:52.27 still apply even after we're up there, 00:11:52.27\00:11:55.21 like even after the millennium and all, 00:11:55.21\00:11:56.61 and we come back down to heaven? 00:11:56.61\00:11:58.41 'Cause as you know that there's not gonna be any more sins. 00:11:58.41\00:12:02.32 Sin will be irradiated from the earth. 00:12:02.32\00:12:06.65 - From the universe. Yes, absolutely. 00:12:06.65\00:12:08.66 So will the 10 commandments apply after? Absolutely. 00:12:08.66\00:12:11.96 Sin is the transgression of the law. 00:12:11.96\00:12:13.70 So if there's no sin, 00:12:13.70\00:12:15.13 then that would mean that the law is being kept. 00:12:15.13\00:12:17.20 And if you think about it, 00:12:17.20\00:12:18.70 the purpose of salvation is to redeem us from sin, 00:12:18.70\00:12:22.30 to save us from breaking God's law. 00:12:22.30\00:12:25.44 In heaven there's not gonna be any killing, 00:12:25.44\00:12:27.24 there's not gonna be any stealing, 00:12:27.24\00:12:28.71 there's not gonna be lying. 00:12:28.71\00:12:30.25 It's also interesting Isaiah talks about in the new earth 00:12:30.25\00:12:32.98 that says from one Sabbath to another, 00:12:32.98\00:12:34.92 we will come and worship before God. 00:12:34.92\00:12:37.29 So the fourth commandment that has to do with the Sabbath 00:12:37.29\00:12:39.69 will be enforced or be important 00:12:39.69\00:12:42.69 even after the earth is recreated. 00:12:42.69\00:12:45.69 So, yes, we still gonna be worshiping 00:12:45.69\00:12:48.60 the one and true God in heaven, 00:12:48.60\00:12:50.07 we won't be taking His name in vain, 00:12:50.07\00:12:51.67 we won't be worshiping idols. 00:12:51.67\00:12:53.00 So yeah, the principles and 10 commandments 00:12:53.00\00:12:55.10 are definitely binding, not only for us, 00:12:55.10\00:12:57.34 but also for the angels and all created intelligent beings. 00:12:57.34\00:13:01.18 Remember Satan's sin in heaven was coveting God's throne 00:13:01.18\00:13:05.75 and that's a violation of the 10th commandment. 00:13:05.75\00:13:07.65 So you can see the principles there 00:13:07.65\00:13:09.15 throughout all of the Bible. 00:13:09.15\00:13:11.82 - [Danny] Well, actually, I didn't even think about that. 00:13:11.82\00:13:13.25 That's a good point. 00:13:13.25\00:13:14.39 Awesome. Thank you very much. 00:13:14.39\00:13:15.82 - All right. Thank you. - All right, thank you Danny. 00:13:15.82\00:13:17.06 We do have a study guide, friends, 00:13:17.06\00:13:18.26 that talk about the 10 commandments. 00:13:18.26\00:13:19.76 It's called "Written in Stone". 00:13:19.76\00:13:21.40 Is it still relevant for the Christian? 00:13:21.40\00:13:23.13 Pastor Carlos, people sometimes ask, 00:13:23.13\00:13:24.40 "Well, didn't Jesus' death on Calvary 00:13:24.40\00:13:26.23 do away with the 10 commandments?" 00:13:26.23\00:13:28.50 Well, no, not according to the Bible. 00:13:28.50\00:13:30.74 - It's total opposite. - Yeah. 00:13:30.74\00:13:31.91 He enables us to keep the commandments 00:13:31.91\00:13:34.48 as a result of his death. 00:13:34.48\00:13:35.84 So we'll be happy to send this study guide 00:13:35.84\00:13:37.85 to anyone wanting to learn more. 00:13:37.85\00:13:39.48 Just call the number, it's 800-835-6747. 00:13:39.48\00:13:43.05 You can ask for the study guide 00:13:43.05\00:13:43.99 that's called "Written in Stone" 00:13:43.99\00:13:46.12 and we'll be happy to put it in the mail and send it to you. 00:13:46.12\00:13:48.19 Who do we have next? 00:13:48.19\00:13:49.39 - Next we have Mike calling us from Oregon. 00:13:49.39\00:13:52.39 You're on the air, Mike. 00:13:52.39\00:13:53.60 - [Mike] Hi pastors. Thank you for taking my call. 00:13:55.03\00:13:57.07 I had a question in regards to a study I was doing 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.50 on the name of Rome in the New Testament. 00:13:59.50\00:14:02.07 I looked up the name in Strong's Concordance and Fairs 00:14:02.07\00:14:05.87 Greek Lexicon, and it says the name Rome means strength. 00:14:05.87\00:14:10.08 And that of course triggered a thought in my mind, 00:14:10.08\00:14:12.61 in regards to Daniel 2, 00:14:12.61\00:14:14.32 as the kingdoms that are mentioned in Daniel 2, 00:14:15.48\00:14:18.39 The Babylon, the second kingdom, 00:14:18.39\00:14:19.82 the third kingdom of 14th, and divided kingdom. 00:14:19.82\00:14:22.46 And when it talks about the divided kingdom in Daniel 2:41, 00:14:22.46\00:14:26.33 it says, "And where I saw as defeat 00:14:26.33\00:14:28.23 and the toes part of Potter's clay and part of iron, 00:14:28.23\00:14:30.93 the kingdom shall be divided, but there shall be in it 00:14:30.93\00:14:34.07 the strength of the iron." 00:14:34.07\00:14:36.57 And the entomology of the word Rome, the name Rome, 00:14:36.57\00:14:41.18 in Greek means strength. 00:14:41.18\00:14:43.14 And I'm wondering if that's an applicable application. 00:14:43.14\00:14:46.18 - I think so. Absolutely. 00:14:46.18\00:14:47.65 I mean, that's a good point. 00:14:47.65\00:14:49.35 It's very clear from the Scriptures, if you look look at 00:14:49.35\00:14:51.35 it, that this fourth kingdom, the legs of iron, 00:14:51.35\00:14:54.19 represents a Rome, pagan Rome, 00:14:54.19\00:14:56.36 and then the feet of iron and clay, 00:14:56.36\00:14:59.13 there is still the influence of Rome 00:14:59.13\00:15:00.96 but in this case, it's papal Rome. 00:15:00.96\00:15:03.16 It's also interesting to note that the primary metal used 00:15:03.16\00:15:06.07 during the Roman empire during the time of Rome was iron. 00:15:06.07\00:15:09.27 It had been invented by then 00:15:09.27\00:15:10.74 and was used primarily as an instrument for war. 00:15:10.74\00:15:12.61 They had iron spears, iron chariots, 00:15:12.61\00:15:16.98 so iron is a very fitting symbol 00:15:16.98\00:15:18.88 and it does parallel the name of Rome. 00:15:18.88\00:15:21.48 So yes, absolutely. 00:15:21.48\00:15:22.88 There's a very significant connection there. 00:15:22.88\00:15:25.02 That's a good observation. 00:15:25.02\00:15:26.12 - [Mike] Thank you. 00:15:26.12\00:15:27.36 Yep, thank you for taking my call. 00:15:27.36\00:15:28.36 Appreciate it. - Absolutely. 00:15:28.36\00:15:29.29 - Thank you. - Thanks, Mike. 00:15:29.29\00:15:30.76 - Next, we have Robert College Place, Washington. 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.73 Good evening, Robert. You're on the air. 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.46 - [Robert] Hi, Pastor Carlos. 00:15:34.46\00:15:36.13 And hi, Pastor Ross. - Hello. 00:15:36.13\00:15:38.73 - And your question tonight? 00:15:38.73\00:15:40.14 - [Robert] It's regarding Ephesians 4:9. 00:15:41.20\00:15:43.20 Sometimes I hear people saying that, 00:15:43.20\00:15:46.44 and I'm sure you've heard that before, 00:15:46.44\00:15:47.98 that Jesus went to hell to preach to people, 00:15:47.98\00:15:52.08 but this Ephesians 4:9 doesn't say 00:15:52.08\00:15:54.58 that he went and preached to people, 00:15:54.58\00:15:56.08 but he says that he went to the lowest parts of the earth. 00:15:56.08\00:15:59.39 How do you explain that to people 00:16:01.19\00:16:03.29 or how I explain that verse? 00:16:03.29\00:16:04.66 - Yeah, absolutely. 00:16:04.66\00:16:05.93 Let me read it so those who are just listening, 00:16:05.93\00:16:07.40 maybe driving their car can get the verses. 00:16:07.40\00:16:09.96 Let me start in verse seven. 00:16:11.63\00:16:12.83 It says, "Talking about spiritual gifts, 00:16:12.83\00:16:14.37 but to each of you or to each of us, 00:16:14.37\00:16:16.60 grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift." 00:16:16.60\00:16:19.64 Verse eight says, "Therefore he sayeth, 00:16:19.64\00:16:21.51 when he ascendeth on high, 00:16:21.51\00:16:23.08 he led captivity captive and gave gifts and unto men." 00:16:23.08\00:16:26.48 So here we find Paul in Ephesians 00:16:26.48\00:16:28.55 referencing the Ascension of Jesus. 00:16:28.55\00:16:30.59 And he says, "When Jesus ascended on high, 00:16:30.59\00:16:32.49 he laid captivity captive, but he gave gifts unto men," 00:16:32.49\00:16:35.86 and he's referring to Pentecost, 00:16:35.86\00:16:37.83 "with the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:16:37.83\00:16:40.23 And with that outpouring of the Holy Spirit, 00:16:40.23\00:16:42.00 there were spiritual gifts that were given to the church." 00:16:42.00\00:16:45.07 And then verse nine he says, "Now this he ascended," 00:16:45.07\00:16:49.64 what does it mean but that he first also descended 00:16:49.64\00:16:52.51 into the lower parts of the earth? 00:16:52.51\00:16:54.24 Verse 10, "He who descended is also the one who ascended 00:16:54.24\00:16:58.15 far above all heaven that he might fulfill 00:16:58.15\00:17:00.98 or fill all things." 00:17:00.98\00:17:02.92 Now when it says, "The one who ascended 00:17:02.92\00:17:04.39 is also the one that descended," 00:17:04.39\00:17:05.89 it's just referencing to Christ, 00:17:05.89\00:17:07.39 who is one with the Father, made Himself of no reputation, 00:17:07.39\00:17:11.16 took upon Himself the form of a man, became sin for us, 00:17:11.16\00:17:15.06 meaning He took our sins, He died, He was buried, 00:17:15.06\00:17:19.43 but then He rose from the dead 00:17:19.43\00:17:21.04 and now He's ascended to the highest of heaven. 00:17:21.04\00:17:23.30 So before Christ ascended to heaven 00:17:23.30\00:17:25.77 and was able to give these special gifts 00:17:25.77\00:17:27.88 to those who had faith in Him, 00:17:27.88\00:17:29.38 He first went through the agony of Gethsemane, Calvary, 00:17:29.38\00:17:33.72 He died for our sins, He bore our sins, 00:17:33.72\00:17:35.85 He was buried, and He rose again. 00:17:35.85\00:17:37.89 So it's not talking about Jesus 00:17:37.89\00:17:39.55 going down to a place of torment, 00:17:39.55\00:17:41.16 it's just referencing to the fact of His condescension 00:17:41.16\00:17:44.03 and Him taking upon Himself our sins, dying as a substitute, 00:17:44.03\00:17:47.13 and then being highly exalted and now being in the position 00:17:47.13\00:17:50.73 of giving these spiritual gifts to the church. 00:17:50.73\00:17:53.03 - [Robert] Okay, that makes sense 00:17:55.17\00:17:56.44 when you attach the two above verses, for sure. 00:17:56.44\00:18:01.21 - Yep, that's the context that he's explaining there. 00:18:02.64\00:18:05.05 - [Robert] And don't you have a book 00:18:06.58\00:18:08.12 that talked about Jesus humbling Himself, and... 00:18:08.12\00:18:13.12 - Oh, we sure do. 00:18:13.86\00:18:15.29 - [Robert] That it's a little pocket book, I think. 00:18:15.29\00:18:16.76 - Yeah, we do. It's called "Riches of His Grace". 00:18:16.76\00:18:19.09 And well, that's one of them. 00:18:19.09\00:18:20.83 I'm looking for another one that's just new 00:18:20.83\00:18:22.66 that you need to ask for. 00:18:22.66\00:18:24.07 It is called "The Serpent and the Cross." 00:18:24.07\00:18:27.00 It's a new book that we just wrote. 00:18:27.00\00:18:28.37 I think you'll be blessed. 00:18:28.37\00:18:29.97 It talks about Christ condescension, Him bearing our 00:18:29.97\00:18:31.84 sins. And we'll be happy to send that to you. Just call and ask. 00:18:31.84\00:18:34.61 The number to call, again, is 800-835-6747 00:18:34.61\00:18:38.71 and ask for the book. 00:18:38.71\00:18:39.88 It's called "The Serpent of the Cross" 00:18:39.88\00:18:41.18 and we'll be happy to, 00:18:41.18\00:18:42.68 actually it's called "The High Cost of the Cross". 00:18:42.68\00:18:44.99 I'm sorry, it's called "The High Cost of the Cross". 00:18:44.99\00:18:47.42 Finally saw it here on my computer. 00:18:47.42\00:18:49.16 We'll be able to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:18:49.16\00:18:51.96 Who do we have next, Carlos? - All right. 00:18:51.96\00:18:53.16 Next we have Don from Florida. 00:18:53.16\00:18:55.10 Good evening, Don. 00:18:55.10\00:18:56.06 Welcome to "Bible Answers Live". 00:18:56.06\00:18:58.00 - [Dawn] I have a quick question, 00:18:58.00\00:18:59.53 but I wanna do a quick comment first. 00:18:59.53\00:19:02.70 Your app, it's absolutely amazing. 00:19:02.70\00:19:06.01 I listen to it all day and night on my cell phone. 00:19:06.01\00:19:09.38 I just love it. 00:19:09.38\00:19:10.65 And please turn the color back to blue. 00:19:10.65\00:19:12.35 (all laughing) 00:19:12.35\00:19:13.42 - Okay. 00:19:13.42\00:19:14.85 - [Dawn] The app color blends in with like YouTube 00:19:14.85\00:19:19.12 and I don't wanna hit the wrong button. 00:19:19.12\00:19:21.49 - Okay, well, We'll pass that on our people. Yes. 00:19:21.49\00:19:26.29 - [Dawn] Thank you. 00:19:26.29\00:19:27.76 My quick question is, are we supposed to pray to God, 00:19:27.76\00:19:32.10 our Father or Jesus? 00:19:32.83\00:19:34.37 - Okay. Good question. 00:19:34.37\00:19:35.84 Now when the disciples came to Jesus and asked Him, 00:19:35.84\00:19:38.01 say, "Lord, teach us to pray," 00:19:38.01\00:19:40.11 Jesus gave them an example of prayer, 00:19:40.11\00:19:42.24 or at least the principles of prayer, 00:19:42.24\00:19:43.78 and our prayers are to be directed 00:19:43.78\00:19:45.45 to our Father which art in heaven. 00:19:45.45\00:19:47.75 So when one prays, we direct our prayers to the Father, 00:19:47.75\00:19:50.89 but we direct our prayers in the name of Jesus. 00:19:50.89\00:19:54.59 And we can ask for the Holy Spirit. 00:19:54.59\00:19:57.03 Now we do have one example 00:19:57.03\00:19:58.63 of somebody praying directly to Jesus, which is appropriate. 00:19:58.63\00:20:02.43 You have Steven just before he was stoned, 00:20:02.43\00:20:04.63 he prayed and said, "Lord, Jesus receive my spirit." 00:20:04.63\00:20:07.30 So there we have an example of Steven praying to Jesus. 00:20:07.30\00:20:10.74 We don't have an example 00:20:10.74\00:20:12.01 of somebody praying to the Holy Spirit. 00:20:12.01\00:20:14.48 We do have examples 00:20:14.48\00:20:15.88 of people obviously praying to God, the Father. 00:20:15.88\00:20:18.11 So I think if we're gonna follow the Bible, 00:20:18.11\00:20:19.98 we wanna go with that same sequence. 00:20:19.98\00:20:22.95 And here's the principle. 00:20:22.95\00:20:24.75 Jesus said, "I've not come to speak of My own words, 00:20:24.75\00:20:27.52 but I've come to speak 00:20:27.52\00:20:28.96 the words that My Father has given Me." 00:20:28.96\00:20:31.16 He spoke about Jesus, 00:20:31.16\00:20:32.39 said His mission was to glorify His Father. 00:20:32.39\00:20:34.76 And then Jesus said, "When the Comforter comes," 00:20:34.76\00:20:36.97 speaking of the Holy Spirit, "He won't speak His own words, 00:20:36.97\00:20:40.04 but He will speak the things that I have given you." 00:20:40.04\00:20:41.74 And so the Holy Spirit comes to magnify the Son. 00:20:41.74\00:20:44.57 So the Son magnifies the Father, 00:20:44.57\00:20:46.61 the Spirit magnifies the Son, 00:20:46.61\00:20:48.88 and the Father magnifies His Son. 00:20:48.88\00:20:51.18 In other words, Christ is highly exalted by the Father. 00:20:51.18\00:20:54.02 So there is this magnifying of 00:20:54.02\00:20:57.02 the Holy Spirit's magnifying the teachings of Jesus, 00:20:57.02\00:20:59.42 Jesus is revealing to us what the Father's like. 00:20:59.42\00:21:02.09 And I think when we pray, we are to direct our prayers 00:21:02.09\00:21:04.43 to God, the Father in Jesus' name, 00:21:04.43\00:21:06.96 asking for the Holy Spirit. 00:21:06.96\00:21:09.10 That would be the principle that we find in the Bible. 00:21:09.10\00:21:11.23 Does that make sense, Dawn? 00:21:11.23\00:21:13.10 - [Dawn] It does. 00:21:14.10\00:21:15.34 I normally try to speak to the Father, 00:21:15.34\00:21:17.54 And then at the end, I'm like, 00:21:17.54\00:21:18.94 "In Jesus' name, I pray." - Absolutely. Yep. 00:21:18.94\00:21:21.21 - [Dawn] Thank you, et cetera. 00:21:21.21\00:21:22.51 But I don't know how else to put it, 00:21:22.51\00:21:25.21 I didn't wanna shun Jesus, you know what I'm saying, 00:21:25.21\00:21:28.45 and do it wrong and I'm thinking- 00:21:28.45\00:21:29.78 - No, you're not. Not by any means. 00:21:29.78\00:21:31.85 - [Dawn] Like, am I doing this wrong? 00:21:31.85\00:21:33.82 - No, you're not shunning Jesus in the least. 00:21:33.82\00:21:35.36 Matter of fact, Jesus gave us that example and said, 00:21:35.36\00:21:37.76 "When you pray, say our Father which art in heaven." 00:21:37.76\00:21:40.46 Now we do have a book talking about prayer. 00:21:40.46\00:21:42.30 It's called "Teach Us to Pray". 00:21:42.30\00:21:44.20 And we'll be happy to send this to anyone who asks. 00:21:44.20\00:21:46.33 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:21:46.33\00:21:49.87 And again, just ask for the book, 00:21:49.87\00:21:51.07 it's called, "Teach Us to Pray". 00:21:51.07\00:21:52.64 We'll get it in the mail 00:21:52.64\00:21:53.94 and send it to you as soon as we can. 00:21:53.94\00:21:55.61 - Amen. Next we have Jennifer from Michigan. 00:21:55.61\00:21:58.81 Good evening, Jennifer. You are on the air. 00:21:58.81\00:22:01.55 - [Jennifer] Yes. Good evening. 00:22:01.55\00:22:02.88 Thank you for taking my call. - Yes, absolutely. 00:22:02.88\00:22:05.99 - [Jennifer] My question is, 00:22:07.79\00:22:09.26 who is considered the lost tribes of Judah? 00:22:09.26\00:22:12.46 - Okay, well, if you look at what the Bible says on that, 00:22:13.93\00:22:15.56 you have the 12 tribes that entered into the promised land, 00:22:15.56\00:22:19.43 you have another tribe by the tribe of Levi, 00:22:19.43\00:22:21.87 which actually made up 13, 00:22:21.87\00:22:23.84 and the reason for that is Joseph's two sons, 00:22:23.84\00:22:26.78 Ephraim and Manasseh, 00:22:26.78\00:22:28.44 they were both given an inheritance in the promised 00:22:28.44\00:22:32.18 land. So you have 13 tribes if you add the tribe of Levi. 00:22:32.18\00:22:36.12 But Levi didn't inherit a parcel of land 00:22:36.12\00:22:38.69 like the other tribes did, 00:22:38.69\00:22:40.56 they were actually scattered throughout Israel 00:22:40.56\00:22:43.49 and they had different cities where they ministered. 00:22:43.49\00:22:46.19 But there was a civil war 00:22:46.19\00:22:47.76 that occurred at the death of Saul's son, 00:22:47.76\00:22:51.50 well, actually you have David's son, Rehoboam, 00:22:51.50\00:22:54.24 and the kingdom eventually splits. 00:22:54.24\00:22:57.74 You have Rehoboam in the South and Jeroboam in the North 00:22:57.74\00:23:00.68 and you have the 10 tribes of Israel 00:23:00.68\00:23:02.71 that formed the Northern kingdom, 00:23:02.71\00:23:04.31 and you had Judah and Benjamin and most of the tribe of Levi 00:23:04.31\00:23:09.32 that formed the Southern kingdom. 00:23:10.49\00:23:11.42 And Judah was a big tribe 00:23:11.42\00:23:12.89 and so there were plenty of people in the Southern kingdom. 00:23:12.89\00:23:15.79 The Assyrians, because of the apostasy of Israel, 00:23:15.79\00:23:18.09 the Assyrians eventually came 00:23:18.09\00:23:19.39 and conquered the 10 tribes of the North. 00:23:19.39\00:23:21.76 And they were dispersed amongst the Assyrians, 00:23:21.76\00:23:24.13 they intermarried with the Assyrians. 00:23:24.13\00:23:26.60 And today nobody knows the descendants of those 10 tribes. 00:23:26.60\00:23:31.61 They have been completely combined with the other nations, 00:23:32.97\00:23:36.51 whereas the Southern tribes, Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, 00:23:36.51\00:23:40.78 they kept to themselves for the most part. 00:23:40.78\00:23:43.39 And at the time of Christ, 00:23:43.39\00:23:44.59 the word Jew comes from the tribe of Judah 00:23:44.59\00:23:48.89 and Benjamin, the tribe of Benjamin, 00:23:48.89\00:23:51.29 the smaller of the tribes was still there 00:23:51.29\00:23:53.09 because Saul said that he was of the stock of Benjamin 00:23:53.09\00:23:56.10 and Saul became Paul, the apostle in the New Testament. 00:23:56.10\00:23:58.60 So yes, with reference to the last tribes of Israel, 00:23:58.60\00:24:01.77 yeah, the reason they lost 00:24:01.77\00:24:03.20 is because they intermarried with the other tribes, 00:24:03.20\00:24:05.47 the Assyrians, the other nations, 00:24:05.47\00:24:07.14 the Assyrians and the like, 00:24:07.14\00:24:08.54 and you can't trace their inheritance. 00:24:08.54\00:24:12.81 - Well, that kind of explains that. 00:24:14.02\00:24:15.25 I've been doing some investigating 00:24:15.25\00:24:16.79 and what I've researched was that they're kind of spread 00:24:16.79\00:24:21.79 throughout the earth and that located in Africa, 00:24:22.99\00:24:26.70 the Western part of Africa, 00:24:26.70\00:24:28.86 they show a lot of those tribes are 90% circumcised 00:24:28.86\00:24:33.87 and they're showing DNA, Jewish DNA. 00:24:33.87\00:24:37.24 - And yes, it is probably true 00:24:38.44\00:24:39.97 that Jewish DNA is spread far and wide. 00:24:39.97\00:24:42.14 And there were some groups of people 00:24:42.14\00:24:44.68 that received teachings from Israel 00:24:44.68\00:24:47.22 when Israel was still a united kingdom. 00:24:47.22\00:24:50.25 And they adopted a number of traditions 00:24:50.25\00:24:52.79 that came from Israel. 00:24:52.79\00:24:55.02 There's a group in Ethiopia, 00:24:55.02\00:24:56.46 the Ethiopians had adopted portions of Judaism 00:24:56.46\00:24:59.16 and there were Ethiopian Jews 00:24:59.16\00:25:02.06 that you read about later on in New Testament times. 00:25:02.06\00:25:05.87 They were Africans, 00:25:05.87\00:25:07.10 but they adopted the religion of the Jews. 00:25:07.10\00:25:09.10 So good question. Thank you, Jennifer. 00:25:09.10\00:25:11.01 Do we have time for one more call before our break? 00:25:11.01\00:25:14.21 - Yes, we do. Quickly. 00:25:14.21\00:25:15.51 Elizabeth from Miami, Florida. 00:25:15.51\00:25:17.11 "Bible Answers Live". You are on the air. 00:25:17.11\00:25:19.81 - [Elizabeth] Okay, my question is, 00:25:19.81\00:25:21.25 will we meet God the Father when we go to heaven? 00:25:21.25\00:25:23.72 - Yes. Good question. 00:25:23.72\00:25:25.49 The answer is we sure will. 00:25:25.49\00:25:26.86 The Bible says that we shall see His face. 00:25:26.86\00:25:29.49 And Revelation tells us 00:25:29.49\00:25:30.96 that that's really the great reward of the redeemed, 00:25:30.96\00:25:32.99 we get to stand in the presence of God, the Father, 00:25:32.99\00:25:35.43 and we will look upon His face. 00:25:35.43\00:25:37.57 No need to fear because sin has been washed away. 00:25:37.57\00:25:40.44 We stand complete and holy in Jesus, 00:25:40.44\00:25:43.30 the joy of the redeemed will be in the Father's presence. 00:25:43.30\00:25:46.54 After all, Jesus says the Father loves us, 00:25:46.54\00:25:49.04 for God so loved the world 00:25:49.04\00:25:50.28 that He gave His only begotten Son 00:25:50.28\00:25:51.88 that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, 00:25:51.88\00:25:53.52 but have everlasting life. 00:25:53.52\00:25:55.22 It is the Father that loves us and He wants to save us. 00:25:55.22\00:25:59.02 And He wants us in His presence. 00:25:59.02\00:26:01.02 And the Bible tells us that in the earth made new, 00:26:01.02\00:26:03.49 the righteous will dwell in the presence of God. 00:26:03.49\00:26:05.99 God will be with them. 00:26:05.99\00:26:07.23 And that is the great hope of the Christian. 00:26:07.23\00:26:09.30 Well, friends you hear the music in the background, 00:26:09.30\00:26:11.00 we're not ending the program, 00:26:11.00\00:26:12.50 we're just taking our mid-program break. 00:26:12.50\00:26:14.27 We'll be right back. 00:26:14.27\00:26:15.24 (dramatic music) 00:26:15.24\00:26:18.84 - [Announcer] Stay tuned. 00:26:18.84\00:26:20.11 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:20.11\00:26:22.31 Ok friends, let's start with the basics. 00:26:25.85\00:26:28.42 We know we're here 00:26:28.42\00:26:29.98 but we're not here for very long. 00:26:29.98\00:26:31.82 So the most important thing would be 00:26:31.82\00:26:33.79 if we could learn, during this life, how to live forever. 00:26:33.79\00:26:37.09 This is the central focus of Amazing Facts. 00:26:37.39\00:26:40.03 Now there's alot of wonderful things that Christian ministries 00:26:40.03\00:26:42.76 do. I believe in Christian education 00:26:42.76\00:26:44.90 but if the schools loose the message of salvation 00:26:44.90\00:26:47.67 you end up with more educated sinners. 00:26:48.20\00:26:50.47 I think it's very important for us to build churches 00:26:50.67\00:26:53.44 but if the churches loose the message of salvation 00:26:53.78\00:26:56.54 they just become buildings and shells. 00:26:56.54\00:26:59.01 I think it's important to have a medical ministry and build 00:26:59.11\00:27:02.45 hospitals but if they separate that from the message of 00:27:02.45\00:27:05.59 salvation we just prolong a sinners life for a little while. 00:27:05.59\00:27:08.32 That's why for years, Amazing Facts has made it our focus to present the saving truth 00:27:08.32\00:27:13.86 that sets people free. 00:27:13.86\00:27:15.23 And friends, we want to thank you for your support and your 00:27:15.23\00:27:18.00 gifts. Doug Batchelor was the teenage son of a millionaire father and show business mother 00:28:25.97\00:28:30.74 yet he was living in a cave. 00:28:30.74\00:28:32.97 He had everything money could buy... Everything but happiness. 00:28:32.97\00:28:36.58 But all of the fun and excitement he enjoyed left his life out of control. 00:28:36.58\00:28:41.08 His search eventually led him to a cave above Palm Springs that 00:28:41.08\00:28:46.62 became his home. While Doug scavenged for food in garbage bins, his father owned a yacht, 00:28:46.62\00:28:53.16 a Learjet and an airline. But in his cave home, he discovered a dust covered Bible. 00:28:53.16\00:28:56.73 As he began to read, he soon learned of his true purpose in 00:28:56.73\00:29:01.34 life. Great question. 00:31:53.11\00:31:55.14 Yes, let's begin with the first part of the question. 00:31:55.14\00:31:58.21 Did John the Baptist know 00:31:58.21\00:31:59.41 that he was especially called by God 00:31:59.41\00:32:01.32 to prepare the way for Christ? 00:32:01.32\00:32:02.98 Yes, I believe he was. 00:32:02.98\00:32:04.49 The reason for that is his parents, Zacharia, Elizabeth, 00:32:04.49\00:32:07.99 they were very God-fearing people. 00:32:07.99\00:32:10.16 Zacharia was actually a priest 00:32:10.16\00:32:11.86 and you'll remember the story 00:32:11.86\00:32:13.80 when he was offering incense in the temple at Jerusalem 00:32:13.80\00:32:17.73 that's when the angel made the announcement to him 00:32:17.73\00:32:19.77 that Elizabeth would have a son 00:32:19.77\00:32:21.57 and he was to be the forerunner of the Messiah, 00:32:21.57\00:32:24.57 the forerunner of Christ. 00:32:24.57\00:32:26.88 We don't believe that John and Jesus ever met 00:32:26.88\00:32:29.74 because John was in a different part. 00:32:29.74\00:32:31.51 He was closer in the Southern part of Israel. 00:32:31.51\00:32:34.05 Nazareth was in the Northern area, close to Galilee. 00:32:35.45\00:32:38.29 So we don't believe that their ministry that they connected 00:32:38.29\00:32:42.49 during the early life of Christ. 00:32:42.49\00:32:44.49 At the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit revealed to John 00:32:44.49\00:32:47.83 that Christ is the Lamb of God, 00:32:47.83\00:32:49.73 the One that takes away the sins of the world. 00:32:49.73\00:32:51.73 So John had a special work. 00:32:51.73\00:32:54.20 He studied the Scriptures, he looked at the prophecies, 00:32:54.20\00:32:56.77 referring to the coming of the Messiah, 00:32:56.77\00:32:58.57 the Holy Spirit guided him, but he was not free of sin 00:32:58.57\00:33:03.51 'cause he needed the Lamb of God, Jesus, 00:33:03.51\00:33:05.51 to wash away the sins. 00:33:05.51\00:33:06.75 He was called as a sign of repentance, 00:33:06.75\00:33:09.25 calling Israel to repentance. 00:33:09.25\00:33:10.65 He was called to baptize. 00:33:10.65\00:33:12.35 Now baptism wasn't totally foreign to the Jews 00:33:12.35\00:33:14.99 because if a person converted from a different nation 00:33:14.99\00:33:17.56 and became a Jew or converted to Judaism, 00:33:17.56\00:33:20.16 they would sometimes be baptized 00:33:20.16\00:33:21.76 as a symbol of them committing to the Jewish faith. 00:33:21.76\00:33:26.53 So it wasn't totally foreign. 00:33:26.53\00:33:27.84 It wasn't practiced very widely, 00:33:27.84\00:33:29.77 but there were some groups like the ah-see-ns 00:33:29.77\00:33:31.87 a group of Jews who did practice baptism 00:33:31.87\00:33:35.91 in the area close to where John was baptizing. 00:33:35.91\00:33:39.28 And I think your other question was, did he have a family? 00:33:39.28\00:33:41.38 No, we have no record of him having a family. 00:33:41.38\00:33:44.79 He died in his early 30s 00:33:44.79\00:33:48.19 but he dedicated his life to sharing the good news 00:33:48.19\00:33:53.03 that the Messiah was coming 00:33:53.03\00:33:54.36 and preparing the way for Christ. 00:33:54.36\00:33:56.70 And Jesus said of all of the prophets, 00:33:56.70\00:33:58.83 there's not arisen one greater than John the Baptist. 00:33:58.83\00:34:01.77 And so Jesus recognized John's special calling 00:34:01.77\00:34:05.61 in preparing the way for Christ. 00:34:05.61\00:34:07.88 - Did he ever sin was the other one. 00:34:07.88\00:34:09.61 - Did John ever sin? I'm sure he did. 00:34:09.61\00:34:11.28 Even though we don't have a record of him sinning, 00:34:11.28\00:34:13.48 we know all have sinned and come short the glory of God. 00:34:13.48\00:34:16.48 Now there are some other Bible characters 00:34:16.48\00:34:18.12 that we don't have any record of sinning, 00:34:18.12\00:34:19.85 for example, Joseph, 00:34:19.85\00:34:21.22 the Bible doesn't mention Joseph sinning. 00:34:21.22\00:34:23.73 We have- - Daniel. 00:34:23.73\00:34:24.63 - Daniel. Yes. 00:34:24.63\00:34:25.83 Another Bible character 00:34:25.83\00:34:27.10 that we don't have any reference of sinning, 00:34:27.10\00:34:28.73 but that doesn't mean they never sinned. 00:34:28.73\00:34:30.20 They still needed a savior, 00:34:30.20\00:34:31.63 it's just that the Bible doesn't mention that specifically. 00:34:31.63\00:34:34.07 So yeah, he needed a Savior just like everyone else does. 00:34:34.07\00:34:39.07 Thanks for your call, April. 00:34:39.94\00:34:40.74 Who do we have next? 00:34:40.74\00:34:41.68 - Next we have Campo from Texas. 00:34:41.68\00:34:43.21 Good evening, Campo. You're on the air. 00:34:43.21\00:34:45.65 - [Campo] Okay, my question is impure thoughts. 00:34:45.65\00:34:49.92 What does the Bible say about that? 00:34:49.92\00:34:51.95 - Yes, sorry. Good question. 00:34:51.95\00:34:53.22 Well, the Bible tells us that we wanna think 00:34:53.22\00:34:54.89 on those things that are pure and holy. 00:34:54.89\00:34:57.69 We want even our thoughts 00:34:57.69\00:34:59.16 to be brought under the control of the Spirit of God. 00:34:59.16\00:35:02.30 Now, if we pray and we make a decision and say, "Lord, 00:35:02.30\00:35:05.40 I wanna think those things that are pleasing in Your sight," 00:35:05.40\00:35:09.00 when an impure thought comes into our mind, 00:35:09.00\00:35:11.94 or if we have feelings of jealousy 00:35:11.94\00:35:14.11 and the Holy Spirit convicts us, 00:35:15.28\00:35:17.68 we need to immediately then turn to God and say, 00:35:17.68\00:35:19.78 "Lord, please forgive me. 00:35:19.78\00:35:21.18 Help me to redirect my thoughts." 00:35:21.18\00:35:23.32 And this doesn't happen overnight. 00:35:23.32\00:35:25.22 I think it's an ongoing experience. 00:35:25.22\00:35:26.62 But as we ask the Holy Spirit 00:35:26.62\00:35:28.82 to convict us and lead us, He will. 00:35:28.82\00:35:31.29 And the moment we get convicted 00:35:31.29\00:35:32.96 that this is not the right thing 00:35:32.96\00:35:34.20 for us to be thinking about, 00:35:34.20\00:35:36.00 That's when we need to make a choice 00:35:36.00\00:35:37.47 to redirect our thoughts and move away 00:35:37.47\00:35:40.37 from the carnal things of this earth 00:35:40.37\00:35:43.74 and set our thoughts upon the spiritual things of heaven. 00:35:43.74\00:35:46.78 And if we do that, then we begin to form a habit. 00:35:46.78\00:35:49.51 And pretty soon it becomes easier and easier 00:35:49.51\00:35:52.31 for us to think on wholesome, spiritual things 00:35:52.31\00:35:55.18 and not on earthly things. 00:35:55.18\00:35:57.05 Also, our thoughts are often influenced 00:35:57.05\00:35:59.19 by what we're feeding our mind. 00:35:59.19\00:36:02.16 So if we are feeding our mind the things of secular media 00:36:02.16\00:36:05.46 and just the craziness 00:36:05.46\00:36:06.73 that's happening in the world around us, 00:36:06.73\00:36:08.36 our thoughts are gonna be leaning towards that. 00:36:08.36\00:36:09.96 But we are filling our mind with holy things, things of God, 00:36:09.96\00:36:13.67 filling our mind with Scripture, 00:36:13.67\00:36:15.57 or spiritual devotional books, or something wholesome, 00:36:15.57\00:36:20.24 our thoughts will lean more in that direction. 00:36:20.24\00:36:23.45 So yes, we can control our thoughts 00:36:23.45\00:36:25.25 and the Holy Spirit will convict us. 00:36:25.25\00:36:26.82 But we need to ask for the Holy Spirit. 00:36:26.82\00:36:29.08 Does that help, Campo? 00:36:29.08\00:36:31.52 - [Campo] Yes, sir, it did. 00:36:31.52\00:36:32.69 It helps just as long as I say, "Lord, 00:36:32.69\00:36:34.36 please forgive me and redirect my thoughts." 00:36:34.36\00:36:36.39 - That's the key. That's what we need to ask for. 00:36:36.39\00:36:39.13 All right. Well, thanks for your call. 00:36:39.13\00:36:40.26 Who do we have next? 00:36:40.26\00:36:41.63 - Next we have Neal calling us from California. 00:36:41.63\00:36:43.53 Neal, good evening on "Bible Answers Live". 00:36:43.53\00:36:45.80 - [Neal] Yes. Good evening. 00:36:47.60\00:36:49.37 Thank you for taking my call. 00:36:49.37\00:36:51.57 - Yes. A pleasure. - Yes. Hello. 00:36:51.57\00:36:54.58 I'm calling regarding Revelation Chapter Nine. 00:36:55.78\00:37:00.15 And there's a few different things in there 00:37:00.15\00:37:02.65 that I'm wondering about because it starts out 00:37:02.65\00:37:05.09 talking about opening up the bottomless pit. 00:37:05.09\00:37:08.49 And the bottomless pit is spoken of again, I think, 00:37:08.49\00:37:11.96 in Revelation 20 where Satan is bound. 00:37:11.96\00:37:16.46 But I was wondering in particular 00:37:16.46\00:37:18.53 about the number of the Revelation 9:16, where it says, 00:37:18.53\00:37:23.54 "The number of the army of the horseman was 200 million." 00:37:24.94\00:37:28.51 I heard the number of them 00:37:28.51\00:37:30.58 and it goes on and it mentions colors, 00:37:30.58\00:37:32.71 a fiery red, hyacinth blue, sulfur yellow 00:37:32.71\00:37:37.19 would sound like the colors of the country of China. 00:37:37.19\00:37:41.69 And I'm wondering if anyone knows anything 00:37:41.69\00:37:44.36 about this possibly being something to do with China. 00:37:44.36\00:37:47.30 They're becoming so powerful. 00:37:47.30\00:37:48.86 - All right. Well, I'm glad you asked. 00:37:48.86\00:37:50.40 Yes, let me tell you a little bit 00:37:50.40\00:37:52.43 about the six trumpet here. 00:37:52.43\00:37:53.67 In Revelation, we have a series of sevens, 00:37:53.67\00:37:55.70 you've got the seven churches, 00:37:55.70\00:37:57.14 the seven seals, and the seven trumpets. 00:37:57.14\00:37:59.71 Each of these series of sevens 00:37:59.71\00:38:01.41 cover roughly the same time period, 00:38:01.41\00:38:03.78 it's what we call a Christian era. 00:38:03.78\00:38:05.75 So it's from about 100 AD 00:38:05.75\00:38:08.12 all the way up till the second coming of Christ. 00:38:08.12\00:38:11.55 Now the sixth trumpet you read about here 00:38:11.55\00:38:13.59 in Revelation Chapter Nine, starting in verse 13, 00:38:13.59\00:38:16.52 is really a description of the rise 00:38:16.52\00:38:19.09 and the expansion of Islam 00:38:19.09\00:38:22.30 during the years leading up to around 1840. 00:38:22.30\00:38:26.30 It's actually a historically event 00:38:26.30\00:38:28.17 that's being described here, it's not a future event. 00:38:28.17\00:38:31.01 Because when you look at the seventh trumpet 00:38:31.01\00:38:32.61 that you find in Revelation Chapter 11, 00:38:32.61\00:38:34.64 it's talking about events that are taking place today. 00:38:34.64\00:38:36.88 It talks about the nations are angry, the wrath has come, 00:38:36.88\00:38:39.95 the time of the dead that they should be judged. 00:38:39.95\00:38:41.85 That's Revelation Chapter 11 under the seventh trumpet. 00:38:41.85\00:38:44.59 So a number of scholars have identified the fifth trumpet 00:38:44.59\00:38:48.42 as the rise of Islam during the time of Muhammad 00:38:48.42\00:38:51.59 and the sixth trumpet as the expansion of Islam 00:38:51.59\00:38:54.50 under the Ottoman empire. 00:38:54.50\00:38:56.87 Now, the Ottoman empire was very powerful in its day. 00:38:56.87\00:39:00.24 And if you look at some of the historical accounts 00:39:00.24\00:39:02.44 of the Ottoman empire, their strength of army was horseman, 00:39:02.44\00:39:06.88 and they had hundreds of thousands of horsemen, 00:39:06.88\00:39:10.61 and it describes different colors. 00:39:10.61\00:39:12.28 It says their breast plates were fiery red, 00:39:12.28\00:39:15.02 hyacinth blue, sulfur yellow. 00:39:15.02\00:39:17.25 These are the actual colors of the uniforms 00:39:17.25\00:39:20.36 of the Ottoman soldiers, the horseman in particular. 00:39:20.36\00:39:23.93 And it talks about having the heads of lions 00:39:23.93\00:39:26.86 and outta the mouth comes fire and smoke. 00:39:26.86\00:39:28.66 It was during this time that gun powder had been invented 00:39:28.66\00:39:32.80 and the horseman of the Ottoman empire 00:39:32.80\00:39:34.70 would often lean forward on the horses 00:39:34.70\00:39:36.87 and discharge their gunfire 00:39:36.87\00:39:39.77 and it would seem as though smoke and fire 00:39:39.77\00:39:41.71 is actually coming out of the mouth of the horse. 00:39:41.71\00:39:43.45 So this is a very descriptive passage of Scripture. 00:39:43.45\00:39:46.68 It's not referring to China, 00:39:46.68\00:39:48.35 but rather it's referring to the rise 00:39:48.35\00:39:50.02 and the expansion of Islam 00:39:50.02\00:39:51.89 during the time of the Ottoman empire. 00:39:51.89\00:39:54.52 So that's kind of your overview there of the trumpets. 00:39:54.52\00:39:57.63 And it's a very deep subject and a lot of symbolism there, 00:39:57.63\00:40:01.03 but this has been identified historically as Ottoman empire. 00:40:01.03\00:40:05.40 All right, well, thanks for your call. 00:40:05.40\00:40:06.50 Who do we have next? 00:40:06.50\00:40:07.74 - Next we have Barbara calling us from Canada. 00:40:07.74\00:40:09.30 Good evening, Barbara. 00:40:09.30\00:40:10.54 - [Barbara] Oh, good evening, pastors. 00:40:10.54\00:40:12.24 - Hi, Barbara. - Hello. 00:40:12.24\00:40:13.17 - And your question tonight. 00:40:13.17\00:40:14.74 - [Barbara] Yeah, good to talk to you. 00:40:14.74\00:40:16.41 Yes, I have a friend who says 00:40:16.41\00:40:18.91 that we're worshiping on the wrong day of the week. 00:40:18.91\00:40:22.25 When Christ rose from the dead on Sunday morning, 00:40:24.25\00:40:29.26 Sabbath morning to their time, their way of thinking, 00:40:30.66\00:40:34.56 he changed the day that Sabbath is now Sunday, 00:40:34.56\00:40:39.17 it is not Saturday. 00:40:39.17\00:40:41.00 How do you explain to somebody like that that's wrong? 00:40:41.00\00:40:45.14 - Yeah, that's a good question. 00:40:46.78\00:40:48.11 It is a very significant event 00:40:48.11\00:40:50.01 that Christ rose from the dead. 00:40:50.01\00:40:52.18 We have hope in the resurrection 00:40:52.18\00:40:53.62 'cause Christ rose from the dead, 00:40:53.62\00:40:55.62 but He wouldn't have risen from the dead 00:40:55.62\00:40:57.92 if He had not first died for our sins, 00:40:57.92\00:41:00.82 which took place on Friday. 00:41:00.82\00:41:03.16 So the fact that Jesus died on Friday, 00:41:03.16\00:41:05.36 does that make Friday a holy day 00:41:05.36\00:41:07.96 or that Jesus rose on Sunday, 00:41:07.96\00:41:10.27 does that make Sunday a holy day? 00:41:10.27\00:41:12.97 You won't find any commandment in the New Testament 00:41:12.97\00:41:15.70 or anywhere in the Bible that says 00:41:15.70\00:41:17.37 because Christ rose on the first day of the week, 00:41:17.37\00:41:19.51 we are now to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath. 00:41:19.51\00:41:23.98 There is only one day clearly defined in Scripture 00:41:23.98\00:41:27.65 as being the Sabbath, the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, 00:41:27.65\00:41:30.62 and that of course is the fourth commandment, 00:41:30.62\00:41:32.15 which says, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy." 00:41:32.15\00:41:35.09 What's significant about the Sabbath 00:41:35.09\00:41:36.99 is that Jesus died on Friday, He rested in the tomb. 00:41:36.99\00:41:40.96 His work of redemption had ended, 00:41:40.96\00:41:43.06 He rested in the tomb and He rose the first day of the week. 00:41:43.06\00:41:46.67 So even in His death, He rested on the Sabbath. 00:41:46.67\00:41:50.17 So we see the Sabbath still holding a very significant 00:41:50.17\00:41:52.77 and important part in the Old Testament and New Testament. 00:41:52.77\00:41:56.14 It's still part of the 10 commandments either way. 00:41:56.14\00:41:58.75 So I think we just need to stay with the Bible 00:41:58.75\00:42:00.82 if we wanna know for sure what does the Bible teach us 00:42:00.82\00:42:03.35 with reference to the Sabbath? 00:42:03.35\00:42:05.12 We do have a study guide that talks about that. 00:42:05.12\00:42:07.82 We'd be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:42:07.82\00:42:11.13 It's dealing with the fourth commandment 00:42:11.13\00:42:15.33 and it's called, I'm looking for it right here, 00:42:15.33\00:42:18.87 it is "The Lost Day in History", 00:42:18.87\00:42:21.64 that's what it's called, "The Lost Day in History". 00:42:21.64\00:42:23.74 We'll be happy to send that study guide 00:42:23.74\00:42:25.11 to anyone who calls and asks. 00:42:25.11\00:42:26.31 The number is 800-835-6747 00:42:26.31\00:42:29.74 and you can just ask for the study guide. 00:42:29.74\00:42:31.28 It's called "The Lost Day in History". 00:42:31.28\00:42:33.82 Who do we have next? 00:42:33.82\00:42:35.38 - Next we have Paula calling us from Alabama, I think. 00:42:35.38\00:42:39.09 Good evening, Paula. You are on the air. 00:42:39.09\00:42:41.66 - [Paula] Yes, sir. 00:42:41.66\00:42:43.02 Thank you for taking my call. - You're welcome. 00:42:43.02\00:42:44.09 - [Paula] I was wanting to know 00:42:44.09\00:42:46.03 if you're anointed to cast out demon 00:42:46.03\00:42:48.30 and the Lord tells you to, when you go to cast it out 00:42:48.30\00:42:52.80 and you tell it to come out and it doesn't. 00:42:52.80\00:42:55.04 I mean, what is the problem? 00:42:55.04\00:42:56.24 Is it unbelief on my part, 00:42:56.24\00:42:58.24 or am I supposed to just keep on saying, 00:42:58.24\00:43:00.58 "Come out, come out, come out?" 00:43:00.58\00:43:02.38 - Okay, well, this is a good question. 00:43:02.38\00:43:04.25 Well, first of all, yes, 00:43:04.25\00:43:05.35 we do have occurrences in the Bible 00:43:05.35\00:43:06.82 where demons were cast out of people. 00:43:06.82\00:43:09.92 But first of all, let me begin by saying 00:43:09.92\00:43:12.95 that's not something 00:43:12.95\00:43:14.46 that Christians ought to be going around looking for. 00:43:14.46\00:43:16.46 We shouldn't start a ministry of casting out devils. 00:43:16.46\00:43:19.36 The devil is very powerful. It's spiritual beings. 00:43:19.36\00:43:23.47 And if we find ourself in a situation 00:43:23.47\00:43:26.07 where someone is demon-possessed 00:43:26.07\00:43:27.67 and are now manifesting those characteristics 00:43:27.67\00:43:31.11 of being Demon-possessed, 00:43:31.11\00:43:33.14 the right thing for us to do is to call other Christians 00:43:33.14\00:43:36.08 who are true believers and unite in prayer for that person. 00:43:36.08\00:43:40.62 Now, in some cases, depending upon the situation, 00:43:40.62\00:43:43.39 the demon might be difficult to come out. 00:43:43.39\00:43:45.52 There was a time where the disciples 00:43:45.52\00:43:46.82 tried to cast out a demon from a boy 00:43:46.82\00:43:49.52 and they were not able to do it. 00:43:49.52\00:43:50.99 And finally, they asked Jesus, 00:43:50.99\00:43:52.23 "Why couldn't we cast out the demon?" 00:43:52.23\00:43:54.03 And Jesus said, "Well, this kind only comes out 00:43:54.03\00:43:56.60 through prayer and fasting." 00:43:56.60\00:43:58.27 So sometimes yes, it requires time, 00:43:58.27\00:44:01.17 it requires perseverance, 00:44:01.17\00:44:04.14 and even fasting depending upon the situation. 00:44:04.14\00:44:07.78 So when it comes to facing a demon, let's be very careful. 00:44:07.78\00:44:12.28 Let's recognize that this is a supernatural power 00:44:12.28\00:44:15.78 and we need Christ to be with us. 00:44:15.78\00:44:18.52 We wanna pray earnestly, 00:44:18.52\00:44:20.99 we wanna unite with other believers to pray earnestly, 00:44:20.99\00:44:24.33 and trust because obviously God is bigger than the devil 00:44:24.33\00:44:27.66 and trust that He will be faithful to fulfill His promise. 00:44:27.66\00:44:31.03 So that's kind of the way we want to approach that. 00:44:31.03\00:44:32.97 Does that help, Paula? 00:44:32.97\00:44:35.10 - [Paula] I've already done all that 00:44:36.44\00:44:37.97 and I didn't ask to do this, it was just brought upon me. 00:44:37.97\00:44:42.48 - Well, then you do just do exactly what you've been doing 00:44:42.48\00:44:45.68 and keep trusting in the Lord. 00:44:45.68\00:44:47.12 And in His time He will work it out. 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.78 Sometimes there are other situations involved. 00:44:49.78\00:44:52.19 If there is something in the house, for example, 00:44:52.19\00:44:54.62 that is giving the devil a foothold, 00:44:54.62\00:44:56.46 maybe there are movies, books, or maybe there are practices 00:44:56.46\00:45:00.36 that are taking place in the household 00:45:00.36\00:45:02.13 that is giving the devil a right, so to speak, 00:45:02.13\00:45:06.57 if we are aware of those things, 00:45:06.57\00:45:08.10 we wanna remove that as well. 00:45:08.10\00:45:09.77 So if you know there's something going on there, 00:45:09.77\00:45:11.97 something that's dealing with the occult, 00:45:11.97\00:45:14.14 clean the house, get all of that stuff out of there. 00:45:14.14\00:45:16.81 Sometimes that's also needed. 00:45:16.81\00:45:19.15 All right, well thank you Paula for your call. 00:45:19.15\00:45:21.22 And keep praying, the Lord will work it out. 00:45:21.22\00:45:23.42 - Amen. Next we have Elizabeth calling us from Wisconsin. 00:45:23.42\00:45:26.45 Good evening, Elizabeth. You're on "Bible Answers Live". 00:45:26.45\00:45:29.36 - [Elizabeth] I just have a question question. 00:45:29.36\00:45:31.89 You were talking about the Holy Spirit before. 00:45:31.89\00:45:34.20 And I know that Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit 00:45:34.20\00:45:39.20 and He said He would intercede for us. 00:45:40.74\00:45:43.64 Now, I'm a widow and I have been a Christian for 80 years. 00:45:43.64\00:45:48.64 And now that I'm alone, 00:45:49.94\00:45:52.65 I don't have anybody else to talk to. 00:45:52.65\00:45:55.18 So I talk to the Holy Spirit when I'm driving, 00:45:55.18\00:45:59.09 we talk about the countryside, how pretty it is, 00:45:59.09\00:46:03.49 the Lord's handy work, and so on. 00:46:03.49\00:46:08.06 And then I have dear ones 00:46:08.06\00:46:12.63 that I don't know how to pray for. 00:46:12.63\00:46:15.37 I pray for them 00:46:15.37\00:46:17.07 but can I ask the Holy Spirit to pray for them? 00:46:17.07\00:46:21.41 - Yes, well, the holy- - Is that proper? 00:46:21.41\00:46:23.14 - That is. The Holy Spirit intercedes. 00:46:23.14\00:46:25.51 And sometimes we can't describe a feeling that we have. 00:46:25.51\00:46:29.98 Well, the Holy Spirit knows our heart 00:46:29.98\00:46:32.12 and He's able to take that feeling, that desire, 00:46:32.12\00:46:34.56 especially if it's for the salvation of somebody else, 00:46:34.56\00:46:37.26 or a special need that we have. 00:46:37.26\00:46:38.89 The Holy Spirit is able to take that desire 00:46:38.89\00:46:40.63 and put it in words that intercede, so to speak, 00:46:40.63\00:46:44.37 on our behalf to God. 00:46:44.37\00:46:46.13 So yes, we can pray for the Holy Spirit. 00:46:46.13\00:46:47.97 We should ask the Holy Spirit to guide us. 00:46:47.97\00:46:50.04 That is very appropriate. 00:46:50.04\00:46:51.94 But in our prayers, typically the Holy Spirit will lead us 00:46:51.94\00:46:54.81 into a deeper experience and relationship with Jesus 00:46:54.81\00:46:58.68 because the Holy Spirit magnifies Christ. 00:46:58.68\00:47:02.28 - [Elizabeth] Yes. 00:47:02.28\00:47:03.82 - All right. 00:47:03.82\00:47:05.09 - [Elizabeth] Thank you very much. 00:47:05.09\00:47:06.29 - Absolutely. Good question. 00:47:06.29\00:47:07.62 Thank you for calling. 00:47:07.62\00:47:08.72 - Next we have Paula from North Carolina. 00:47:09.92\00:47:12.49 Good evening, Paula. 00:47:12.49\00:47:13.33 You're on the air. 00:47:13.33\00:47:14.13 - [Paula] Hi there. 00:47:15.36\00:47:16.46 I have a question. - Okay. 00:47:16.46\00:47:18.40 - [Paula] I want to follow Jesus 00:47:20.07\00:47:22.27 but I dunno what to believe. 00:47:22.27\00:47:24.94 - Okay. Good question. 00:47:24.94\00:47:27.31 Paula, the first thing you need to do 00:47:27.31\00:47:28.78 is ask Jesus to come into your heart. 00:47:28.78\00:47:31.18 And that's simply a prayer. 00:47:31.18\00:47:32.58 You say, "Lord Jesus, I confess my sins. 00:47:32.58\00:47:35.45 I give myself to You. 00:47:35.45\00:47:36.95 Please come into my heart. I surrender myself to You." 00:47:36.95\00:47:40.32 Now, that's the first step, you come to Jesus. 00:47:40.32\00:47:43.22 But then once you make that decision 00:47:43.22\00:47:45.26 and you come to Jesus by faith, 00:47:45.26\00:47:46.86 then you want to discover His will for your life. 00:47:46.86\00:47:50.67 And you find that in the Bible. 00:47:50.67\00:47:52.93 So you wanna start reading the Bible. 00:47:52.93\00:47:55.10 Now you might not have had 00:47:55.10\00:47:56.34 much experience reading the Bible, 00:47:56.34\00:47:57.84 and sometimes there are things in the Bible 00:47:57.84\00:47:59.47 that are difficult to understand, but as you read the 00:47:59.47\00:48:02.91 Bible, the Holy Spirit is able to guide and illuminate your 00:48:02.91\00:48:06.41 mind. So I would just start reading the Bible. 00:48:06.41\00:48:08.02 If you're not real familiar with the Bible, 00:48:08.02\00:48:09.72 maybe start with one of the gospels, start with Mark. 00:48:09.72\00:48:12.92 It's a shorter gospel, you can read it fairly quickly. 00:48:12.92\00:48:16.62 It talks about Jesus. 00:48:16.62\00:48:18.06 There are four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, 00:48:18.06\00:48:20.33 all about the life of Christ. 00:48:20.33\00:48:21.70 That's so inspiring to read. 00:48:21.70\00:48:24.27 And then you might wanna go to the book of Genesis 00:48:24.27\00:48:26.37 and read about the beginning and how things were created 00:48:26.37\00:48:29.37 and familiarize yourself with the teachings of the Bible. 00:48:29.37\00:48:32.37 And as you spend time in the Word of God, 00:48:32.37\00:48:34.91 you will grow more and more in your understanding of truth 00:48:34.91\00:48:38.65 and your faith in God will grow 00:48:38.65\00:48:41.35 as you spend time in His Word. 00:48:41.35\00:48:43.52 I would also recommend finding a good Bible study series. 00:48:43.52\00:48:47.39 Amazing Facts has a free online Bible study course. 00:48:47.39\00:48:51.53 And it'll help you in your study of God's Word 00:48:51.53\00:48:54.00 because it picks different topics and it'll guide you 00:48:54.00\00:48:56.23 through what the Bible has to say about different topics. 00:48:56.23\00:48:59.03 So that would be a great start. 00:48:59.03\00:49:01.20 We do have a study guide that deals with your very question 00:49:01.20\00:49:03.84 about how do we become a true Christian. 00:49:03.84\00:49:06.68 It's called "Rescue From Above" 00:49:06.68\00:49:08.94 and it's talking about salvation. 00:49:08.94\00:49:10.81 And we'll be happy to send that to you. 00:49:10.81\00:49:12.58 Actually, Paula, when you call, 00:49:12.58\00:49:13.88 just ask to sign up, it's free. 00:49:13.88\00:49:15.62 Just sign up for the entire Amazing Facts study course. 00:49:15.62\00:49:19.02 But the study guide specifically talking about that 00:49:19.02\00:49:21.36 is "Rescue From Above". 00:49:21.36\00:49:22.69 The number to call is 800-835-6747 00:49:22.69\00:49:26.19 and we'll be happy to send it to you in the mail. 00:49:26.19\00:49:28.43 - Amen. Next we have Norman calling from California. 00:49:28.43\00:49:31.57 Good evening, Norman. 00:49:31.57\00:49:32.63 - [Norman] Yeah, I have a question. 00:49:34.14\00:49:35.60 It's kind of trivial, 00:49:35.60\00:49:37.17 but regards to the people who died during the flood. 00:49:37.17\00:49:42.18 Is that their final judgment 00:49:44.45\00:49:46.55 or will they be resurrected too? 00:49:46.55\00:49:49.58 - There will be another resurrection 00:49:49.58\00:49:51.69 that everyone who has died will be resurrected in. 00:49:51.69\00:49:55.69 It's called the resurrection at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:49:55.69\00:49:58.73 It's the second resurrection. 00:49:58.73\00:50:00.30 You can actually read about this in Revelation Chapter 20, 00:50:00.30\00:50:02.60 where it talks about the dead, both small and great, 00:50:02.60\00:50:06.43 stood before the great white throne judgment. 00:50:06.43\00:50:09.44 It's the end of the 1,000 years, 00:50:09.44\00:50:10.97 at the end of the millennium. 00:50:10.97\00:50:12.47 So there is a final judgment. 00:50:12.47\00:50:14.28 And so those who were destroyed by the flood waters, 00:50:14.28\00:50:17.28 they will be resurrected for this final judgment 00:50:17.28\00:50:20.48 that takes place at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:50:20.48\00:50:22.82 - [Norman] I see, because I've been hearing 00:50:24.15\00:50:25.79 that the earth was judged through water before, 00:50:25.79\00:50:30.26 and then there will be seconding judgment through fire. 00:50:30.26\00:50:33.53 So I thought that that water judgment 00:50:33.53\00:50:37.30 is their final judgment. 00:50:37.30\00:50:39.20 - No, I mean, it serves as a type of the cleaning 00:50:39.20\00:50:41.84 that'll occur at the end of the 1,000 years 00:50:41.84\00:50:44.21 when the earth is cleansed with fire, 00:50:44.21\00:50:46.11 but individuals, they are still resurrected 00:50:46.11\00:50:49.21 to give an account of their life. 00:50:49.21\00:50:50.78 They stand to be judged at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:50:50.78\00:50:54.22 We have a study guide talking about that, 00:50:54.22\00:50:55.72 it's called "A 1,000 Years of Peace" 00:50:55.72\00:50:57.72 and it talks about this 1000-year period 00:50:57.72\00:50:59.55 found in Revelation Chapter 20. 00:50:59.55\00:51:01.49 And Norman, we'll be happy to send it to you, 00:51:01.49\00:51:03.29 or anyone who wants to learn more about it. 00:51:03.29\00:51:05.09 The number is 800-835-6747. 00:51:05.09\00:51:07.93 - Amen. Next, we have Joseph from Pennsylvania. 00:51:10.23\00:51:14.04 Joseph, you're on the air. 00:51:14.04\00:51:15.34 - [Joseph] Hi, how's it going, Pastor Ross? 00:51:16.54\00:51:18.47 - Hi, Joseph. Doing well. 00:51:18.47\00:51:19.74 - [Joseph] I have a question that has plagued me for decades. 00:51:21.14\00:51:24.18 - All right. 00:51:24.18\00:51:25.88 - [Joseph] And it comes out of I Corinthians 15:20. 00:51:25.88\00:51:28.75 - All right. 00:51:31.99\00:51:33.22 - [Joseph] And I'll read that out of the NKJV. 00:51:33.22\00:51:36.49 It says, "But now Christ is risen from the dead 00:51:37.83\00:51:41.33 and has become the first fruits 00:51:41.33\00:51:42.96 of those who have fallen asleep. 00:51:42.96\00:51:44.97 For since by man came death, 00:51:45.87\00:51:48.90 by man also came the resurrection of the dead. 00:51:48.90\00:51:52.81 For as in Adam all die, 00:51:52.81\00:51:54.64 even so in Christ all shall be made alive, 00:51:54.64\00:51:59.15 but each one in his own order, Christ is the first fruit." 00:51:59.15\00:52:04.12 That's the key word. 00:52:04.85\00:52:05.89 So what I'm understanding here, 00:52:07.49\00:52:09.22 Christ being resurrected off the earth 00:52:09.22\00:52:12.89 was the first fruit of resurrection of the dead. 00:52:12.89\00:52:16.60 So my question is, why is not Moses included in this 00:52:18.07\00:52:22.87 because he was resurrected 2,000 years before Jesus Christ? 00:52:24.24\00:52:28.08 - All right. - Why is he not included? 00:52:29.31\00:52:30.31 - Why is he not included? 00:52:30.31\00:52:31.15 Okay. Very good. 00:52:31.15\00:52:32.38 The phrase first fruits is to be understood 00:52:32.38\00:52:35.62 not only in its numerical sequence, 00:52:35.62\00:52:39.55 but also in its prominence and importance. 00:52:39.55\00:52:42.89 In other words, what's been told here 00:52:42.89\00:52:45.39 is that because Christ rose first, 00:52:45.39\00:52:48.83 we also can be resurrected, not meaning that numerically, 00:52:48.83\00:52:52.73 but it's because of His resurrection, 00:52:52.73\00:52:54.90 that we can also be resurrected. 00:52:54.90\00:52:56.77 So His resurrection is first in importance 00:52:56.77\00:53:00.18 and our only hope of resurrection 00:53:00.18\00:53:02.38 is because of His resurrection. 00:53:02.38\00:53:04.81 For example, we might speak of the first lady. 00:53:04.81\00:53:07.75 And when we speak of the first lady, 00:53:07.75\00:53:09.25 we are talking about the president's wife, 00:53:09.25\00:53:11.49 we are not saying that she's the first woman, that's Eve, 00:53:11.49\00:53:14.19 but we're saying first in rank or position. 00:53:14.19\00:53:17.39 So when it's talking 00:53:17.39\00:53:18.59 about Christ being the first resurrection 00:53:18.59\00:53:20.10 or first fruits of the resurrection, 00:53:20.10\00:53:21.70 His resurrection is the most important. 00:53:21.70\00:53:24.40 It's because of His resurrection 00:53:24.40\00:53:25.87 that anyone else has hoped to be resurrected. 00:53:25.87\00:53:29.00 And like you say, yes, we do have the book of Jude 00:53:29.00\00:53:32.44 speaks about the resurrection of Moses. 00:53:32.44\00:53:34.88 And so, Moses was resurrected and taken to heaven. 00:53:34.88\00:53:37.48 But the only reason why Moses was resurrected 00:53:37.48\00:53:39.75 was because in faith, there was the promise 00:53:39.75\00:53:42.38 that Christ would be resurrected. 00:53:42.38\00:53:44.45 If Christ was not resurrected, 00:53:44.45\00:53:45.89 then yeah, Moses he'd have to leave heaven. 00:53:45.89\00:53:48.89 - [Joseph] Yeah 'cause we had Enoch and Elijah, 00:53:50.09\00:53:53.56 we know how they got there. 00:53:53.56\00:53:55.10 - Right. They didn't die. 00:53:55.10\00:53:56.63 - [Joseph] They were taken there. They didn't die. 00:53:56.63\00:53:58.20 So Moses actually passed away 00:53:58.20\00:54:02.07 and he was taken to heaven- - And he was resurrected. 00:54:02.07\00:54:03.87 I guess on the painting plan of the cross. 00:54:03.87\00:54:07.51 - Yes, absolutely. 00:54:07.51\00:54:08.78 In faith, he was resurrected and taken. 00:54:08.78\00:54:11.05 Of course God knew what would happen 00:54:11.05\00:54:13.15 and that Christ would be resurrected. 00:54:13.15\00:54:15.48 So when it says first fruits, 00:54:15.48\00:54:16.99 it's talking there of first in prominence and importance. 00:54:16.99\00:54:20.09 And generally speaking, Christ rose from the dead, 00:54:20.09\00:54:23.73 the vast majority of believers that'll be resurrected, 00:54:23.73\00:54:26.70 takes place at the second coming of Christ. 00:54:26.70\00:54:28.83 But first in prominence and importance, 00:54:29.90\00:54:32.37 that's the emphasis there of the verse that we find. 00:54:32.37\00:54:35.54 Well, thank you for your call, Joseph. What is Jesus doing for us right now? 00:55:50.78\00:55:52.18 Yes, the Bible tells us in Hebrews 00:55:52.18\00:55:53.98 that Jesus is a high priest 00:55:53.98\00:55:55.62 and is ministering for us in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:55:55.62\00:55:59.09 There is a special work of cleansing that is happening. 00:55:59.09\00:56:01.96 And this cleansing work 00:56:01.96\00:56:03.19 is a cleansing of the heart and the life. 00:56:03.19\00:56:05.69 Those who come by faith to Christ 00:56:05.69\00:56:08.73 and ask for the Holy Spirit, 00:56:08.73\00:56:10.67 Christ has promised to do a work of cleansing. 00:56:10.67\00:56:12.53 There is a cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, 00:56:12.53\00:56:14.44 there is a cleansing of the church on earth, 00:56:14.44\00:56:16.47 there is a cleansing of the individual. 00:56:16.47\00:56:18.37 So there is a special work taking place. 00:56:18.37\00:56:20.71 Even now, Jesus, our high priest, 00:56:20.71\00:56:22.51 is ministering for us in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:56:22.51\00:56:24.95 And you can read all about that in the book of Hebrews. 00:56:24.95\00:56:27.55 What's the next question? - Amen. 00:56:27.55\00:56:29.02 What's the difference between accounted righteousness 00:56:29.02\00:56:31.45 and imparted righteousness? 00:56:31.45\00:56:32.99 - Okay, two phrases that we find, imputed and imparted. 00:56:32.99\00:56:36.73 Imputed righteousness is when we come to Jesus 00:56:36.73\00:56:38.99 and we receive Him as our personal Savior. 00:56:38.99\00:56:40.90 His righteousness takes the place of our unrighteousness 00:56:40.90\00:56:44.33 and we stand before God just as if we have never sinned. 00:56:44.33\00:56:48.40 But in addition to the imputed righteousness, 00:56:48.40\00:56:51.11 we also have the imparted righteousness. 00:56:51.11\00:56:53.27 And that is when by faith, we surrender our lives to Jesus 00:56:53.27\00:56:56.68 and Christ's righteousness then actually comes 00:56:56.68\00:56:59.08 and becomes part of our heart and part of our lives. 00:56:59.08\00:57:03.05 And we begin to live out the righteousness of Christ 00:57:03.05\00:57:06.09 through the Spirit in our lives. 00:57:06.09\00:57:08.32 The two theological terms there, imputed righteousness 00:57:08.32\00:57:11.59 is sometimes referred to as justification 00:57:11.59\00:57:14.20 and imparted righteousness is referred to as sanctification. 00:57:14.20\00:57:18.30 Paul uses the phrase Christ in you, 00:57:18.30\00:57:22.00 that's imparted righteousness, 00:57:22.00\00:57:24.24 and you in Christ, that's imputed righteousness. 00:57:24.24\00:57:27.88 So those are the two phrases 00:57:27.88\00:57:29.14 that are sometimes seen in the writings of Paul. 00:57:29.14\00:57:31.48 - Amen. 00:57:31.48\00:57:32.68 Question, how can you honor your parents 00:57:32.68\00:57:35.15 when they have committed horrific sins against you? 00:57:35.15\00:57:37.15 - Oh, how do you keep that commandment 00:57:37.15\00:57:38.39 that says honor your mother and your father 00:57:38.39\00:57:39.79 when your parents have done some bad things? 00:57:39.79\00:57:41.99 Well, honoring your parents 00:57:41.99\00:57:43.46 doesn't mean you agree with everything they've done. 00:57:43.46\00:57:45.96 You don't wanna support your parents 00:57:45.96\00:57:47.60 if they're doing that which is contrary to the Word of God. 00:57:47.60\00:57:50.10 But despite them doing horrible things, you respect them 00:57:50.10\00:57:53.94 because they are the ones who gave your life. 00:57:53.94\00:57:56.60 Now, there might be times where you need to be respectful 00:57:56.60\00:57:59.37 and disagree with your parents and say, "I can't do that," 00:57:59.37\00:58:02.24 or, "that's contrary to what God would have me to do," 00:58:02.24\00:58:05.18 but as far as possible, 00:58:05.18\00:58:06.58 we wanna show respect and honor to our parents 00:58:06.58\00:58:09.35 because that's what the commandment says. 00:58:09.35\00:58:11.39 So yes, sometimes we wanna pray for wisdom 00:58:11.39\00:58:13.46 in those situations. 00:58:13.46\00:58:14.86 Friends, God bless. 00:58:14.86\00:58:15.79 Thank you for joining us here. 00:58:15.79\00:58:17.06 And we look forward to seeing you next week. 00:58:17.06\00:58:18.99 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live", 00:58:20.16\00:58:22.03 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:22.03\00:58:25.77
