Joe was the pigeon chosen 00:02:08.89\00:02:10.89 to carry this life or death message. 00:02:10.89\00:02:13.46 Flying swiftly over the battle-torn land, 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.93 the pigeon flew the 20 miles 00:02:15.93\00:02:17.67 back to the U.S. air support base in 20 minutes, 00:02:17.67\00:02:21.04 arriving just as the planes were warming up 00:02:21.04\00:02:23.81 to take off for their mission to Calvi Vecchia. 00:02:23.81\00:02:26.78 The successful completion of the historic flight 00:02:26.78\00:02:29.71 saved the lives of more than a thousand British soldiers. 00:02:29.71\00:02:33.75 After World War II, G.I. Joe was housed 00:02:33.75\00:02:36.15 at the U.S. Army's Hall of Fame in New Jersey, 00:02:36.15\00:02:38.49 along with 24 other pigeon heroes 00:02:38.49\00:02:41.22 and was awarded the Medal of Gallantry. 00:02:41.22\00:02:43.96 The only bird or animal in the United States 00:02:43.96\00:02:46.19 to receive such an award. 00:02:46.19\00:02:48.30 In March of 1957, 00:02:48.30\00:02:50.23 he was placed with the Detroit zoological gardens 00:02:50.23\00:02:53.17 where he died on June 3, 1961 at the age of 18. 00:02:53.17\00:02:57.91 Now, did you know friends, that the Bible also talks 00:02:57.91\00:03:00.51 about a lifesaving message that was carried by three angels? 00:03:00.51\00:03:04.85 Well, stay tuned for more 00:03:04.85\00:03:06.01 as Amazing Facts brings you this edition 00:03:06.01\00:03:08.45 of "Bible Answers Live." 00:03:08.45\00:03:10.42 Well, you know, Pastor Carlos, 00:03:10.42\00:03:11.82 we introduced the program by talking about G.I. Joe, 00:03:11.82\00:03:13.89 this pigeon that had this life and death message, 00:03:13.89\00:03:17.49 an urgent mission, and it was a timely mission. 00:03:17.49\00:03:20.73 He had to get that mission back to the air base, 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.37 to call off the air support. 00:03:23.37\00:03:25.03 Now in the Bible, we read about an urgent message. 00:03:25.03\00:03:27.80 It's also a timely message. 00:03:27.80\00:03:29.70 - Yep. 00:03:29.70\00:03:30.51 - And it is something to do 00:03:30.51\00:03:31.61 with the second coming of Christ. 00:03:31.61\00:03:32.67 Where do we find this urgent message? 00:03:32.67\00:03:34.74 - I think that the message you're talking about 00:03:34.74\00:03:36.51 is the three angels message in Revelation chapter 14. 00:03:36.51\00:03:39.48 - That's right, the three angels messages 00:03:39.48\00:03:41.62 of Revelation chapter 14. 00:03:41.62\00:03:43.52 Revelation 14 is an interesting chapter. 00:03:43.52\00:03:46.42 It begins by describing a group of people called 144,000. 00:03:46.42\00:03:51.06 And then you have this urgent message, 00:03:51.06\00:03:53.13 the three angels message. 00:03:53.13\00:03:54.40 And then right after the proclamation 00:03:54.40\00:03:56.16 of the three angels messages, 00:03:56.16\00:03:57.83 you have a prophetic picture of the second coming of Christ. 00:03:57.83\00:04:00.80 Jesus' picture, coming in the clouds of heaven, 00:04:00.80\00:04:03.64 and He's coming to reap the harvest of the earth. 00:04:03.64\00:04:06.21 So the message that just precedes 00:04:06.21\00:04:08.61 the second coming of Christ 00:04:08.61\00:04:10.51 is what we call the three angels messages. 00:04:10.51\00:04:12.25 Now, I've got it here in front of me. 00:04:12.25\00:04:14.55 So let me read, at least the first angel. 00:04:14.55\00:04:16.12 We don't have time to read all of them, 00:04:16.12\00:04:17.22 but let me read the first angels message. 00:04:17.22\00:04:19.49 And you find that in Revelation 14:6, 00:04:19.49\00:04:22.99 and this is what it says, 00:04:22.99\00:04:24.46 "And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, 00:04:24.46\00:04:26.66 having the everlasting gospel to preach to those 00:04:26.66\00:04:29.53 that dwell upon the earth, to every nation, tribe, 00:04:29.53\00:04:32.03 tongue, and people saying with a loud voice, 00:04:32.03\00:04:34.50 'Fear God and give glory to Him 00:04:34.50\00:04:37.07 for the hour of His judgment has come 00:04:37.07\00:04:39.41 and worship Him that made the heavens, the earth, 00:04:39.41\00:04:41.61 the sea, and the springs of water.'" 00:04:41.61\00:04:44.61 See, here we find the first angels messages 00:04:44.61\00:04:46.45 calling people to worship God as the Creator. 00:04:46.45\00:04:49.42 It's announcing there's judgment hour 00:04:49.42\00:04:51.99 that is about to begin or has begun. 00:04:51.99\00:04:55.09 It's also interesting to note that this message 00:04:55.09\00:04:56.93 has to go to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people 00:04:56.93\00:04:58.99 because the second coming of Jesus is gonna affect 00:04:58.99\00:05:01.66 every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 00:05:01.66\00:05:03.33 - Amen. 00:05:03.33\00:05:04.43 - The second angel talks about Babylon. 00:05:04.43\00:05:05.80 Says Babylon's fallen, 00:05:05.80\00:05:07.30 and then the third angels message 00:05:07.30\00:05:09.27 is where we find the most fearful warning 00:05:09.27\00:05:12.54 anywhere in the Bible. 00:05:12.54\00:05:13.81 It talks about the beast power 00:05:13.81\00:05:15.58 that says "If anyone worships the beast or his image 00:05:15.58\00:05:18.25 or receives his mark in his forehead or in his hand, 00:05:18.25\00:05:20.48 the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God." 00:05:20.48\00:05:23.52 Very important warning that we find 00:05:23.52\00:05:25.45 during that third angels message. 00:05:25.45\00:05:26.55 So there might be some of you who are listening 00:05:26.55\00:05:28.99 and you might be wondering, 00:05:28.99\00:05:30.33 wow, never heard about the three angels messages. 00:05:30.33\00:05:32.16 I wanna learn more. 00:05:32.16\00:05:33.43 Well, we do have a study guide. 00:05:33.43\00:05:35.10 It's one of our classic Amazing Fact study guides. 00:05:35.10\00:05:37.63 It's called "Angel Messages from Space" 00:05:37.63\00:05:40.30 and it deals with the three angels of Revelation chapter 14. 00:05:40.30\00:05:44.31 We will be happy to send this to anyone who calls and asks. 00:05:44.31\00:05:48.21 Now, Pastor Carlos, you're gonna give us two numbers. 00:05:48.21\00:05:50.61 The one is the number people need to call 00:05:50.61\00:05:52.78 if they want to get this free resource, 00:05:52.78\00:05:54.28 it's called "Angel Messages from Space." 00:05:54.28\00:05:56.79 And if you can't exactly remember that title, 00:05:56.79\00:05:58.55 just ask for the study guide 00:05:58.55\00:05:59.92 about the three angels messages, 00:05:59.92\00:06:02.16 and they'll send that to us. 00:06:02.16\00:06:03.29 So what is the number for the free resources 00:06:03.29\00:06:05.76 and what is the phone number 00:06:05.76\00:06:07.03 if people have a Bible question 00:06:07.03\00:06:08.33 they wanna call right into the studio now? 00:06:08.33\00:06:10.30 - Great, so if you wanting this free offer, 00:06:10.30\00:06:12.60 you can call 1-800-835-6747, 00:06:12.60\00:06:16.27 1-800-835-6747, 00:06:16.27\00:06:19.94 or if you wanna call us and give us your Bible question, 00:06:19.94\00:06:24.08 you can also call us at 1-800-GOD-SAYS or 00:06:24.08\00:06:28.62 1-800-463-7297. - Now I think 1-800-GOD-SAYS is just the 00:06:30.35\00:06:33.29 abbreviation of 463-7297. 00:06:33.29\00:06:35.92 - Yep. 00:06:35.92\00:06:37.03 - The phone number that we have there. 00:06:37.03\00:06:37.83 All right, well, Pastor Carlos, 00:06:37.83\00:06:39.69 before we go to the phone lines, 00:06:39.69\00:06:41.30 we always wanna begin with prayer. 00:06:41.30\00:06:42.63 You know, we recognize the Bible is God's book, 00:06:42.63\00:06:45.10 and if we're gonna understand it correctly, 00:06:45.10\00:06:46.50 we need the Spirit to guide us. 00:06:46.50\00:06:47.84 So why don't you start with prayer. 00:06:47.84\00:06:49.34 - Father, we thank you again for the blessing 00:06:49.34\00:06:51.24 and the opportunity to come together and open your Word. 00:06:51.24\00:06:54.18 We ask a blessing for those that are calling, 00:06:54.18\00:06:55.71 and may You give us discernment and wisdom 00:06:55.71\00:06:57.58 so that it may be Your Bible and Your Word 00:06:57.58\00:06:59.48 that answers not a human answer, 00:06:59.48\00:07:01.72 and we may be blessed. 00:07:01.72\00:07:03.52 So we ask and beg these things in Jesus name. 00:07:03.52\00:07:05.69 Amen. - Amen. 00:07:05.69\00:07:07.49 All right, Pastor Carlos, who do we have first? 00:07:07.49\00:07:09.12 - All right, first we have Martha from Chico, California, 00:07:09.12\00:07:12.53 Martha, you are on the air. 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.00 Good evening. 00:07:14.00\00:07:15.36 - [Martha] My question is in regards to the six seals 00:07:15.36\00:07:20.10 in Revelation 6. 00:07:20.74\00:07:23.71 Now, I'm not sure 'cause I just started to study 00:07:23.71\00:07:27.24 this morning. 00:07:27.24\00:07:28.58 I'm not sure what the first seal, the conqueror, relates to, 00:07:28.58\00:07:33.15 but then the others where it talks about conflict 00:07:34.52\00:07:36.65 and scarcity and widespread death, etc. 00:07:36.65\00:07:40.52 I'm wondering if these cannot be applied 00:07:40.52\00:07:45.59 to what our world is going through today 00:07:47.03\00:07:50.40 or if this is something that's still in the future. 00:07:50.40\00:07:55.04 - Okay, yes, good question. 00:07:55.04\00:07:57.34 In the book of Revelation, we find three series of sevens. 00:07:57.34\00:08:00.48 We have the seven churches, 00:08:00.48\00:08:01.88 we have the seven seals, and we have the seven trumpets. 00:08:01.88\00:08:04.71 And then later on we read about something called 00:08:04.71\00:08:06.92 the seven plagues and that's a separate item, 00:08:06.92\00:08:09.72 but the seven churches, the seven seals, 00:08:09.72\00:08:11.69 and the seven trumpets, 00:08:11.69\00:08:13.02 they cover roughly the same time period of Christian history 00:08:13.02\00:08:16.42 from the time of the early church, 00:08:16.42\00:08:18.73 we're around 31 AD, when Jesus ascended to heaven 00:08:18.73\00:08:21.10 and the apostles began to preach 00:08:21.10\00:08:23.10 all the way through to our time. 00:08:23.10\00:08:25.10 You can find that addressed in these series of sevens. 00:08:25.10\00:08:29.97 So the seven churches deal with church history, 00:08:29.97\00:08:32.94 the seven seals deal with experiences 00:08:32.94\00:08:35.38 that God's people go through during the Christian era, 00:08:35.38\00:08:38.35 and the seven trumpets deal with wars or judgments 00:08:38.35\00:08:41.05 that come during that time period, 00:08:41.05\00:08:42.78 specifically talking about the first seals 00:08:42.78\00:08:45.29 of the seven seals find this in Revelation chapter six, 00:08:45.29\00:08:48.76 the first seal describes the first century of Christianity 00:08:48.76\00:08:52.63 from about 31 AD through to 100 AD. 00:08:52.63\00:08:56.50 This is the time of the apostles. 00:08:56.50\00:08:58.93 You'll notice the opening of the first seal 00:08:58.93\00:09:00.60 describes a rider on a white horse 00:09:00.60\00:09:03.07 and he's given a crown and he's going forth conquering 00:09:03.07\00:09:05.11 and to conquer. 00:09:05.11\00:09:06.21 It's the symbol of the gospel, going forth, 00:09:06.21\00:09:08.14 being preached by Paul and others, 00:09:08.14\00:09:10.18 even one of the disciples, Thomas went all the way to India 00:09:10.18\00:09:13.15 to preach the gospel. 00:09:13.15\00:09:14.62 So that white horse represents that first 70 years 00:09:14.62\00:09:17.72 when the gospel was spreading so rapidly 00:09:17.72\00:09:19.79 throughout the Roman empire, 00:09:19.79\00:09:21.52 the next is a red horse 00:09:21.52\00:09:23.43 and the red horse is a symbol of persecution 00:09:23.43\00:09:25.63 that came upon the Christians from about 100 to 313 AD. 00:09:25.63\00:09:30.57 Terrible persecution that came from pagan Rome. 00:09:30.57\00:09:33.77 And the reason for that is because the Christians 00:09:33.77\00:09:35.64 refused to acknowledge the emperor of Rome 00:09:35.64\00:09:37.81 as a deity or as a god. 00:09:37.81\00:09:39.77 And so they faced all kinds of opposition. 00:09:39.77\00:09:42.01 So red is a symbol of blood. 00:09:42.01\00:09:43.58 It describes that time of trial, 00:09:43.58\00:09:45.81 that persecution that came upon the church. 00:09:45.81\00:09:48.08 The next horse just real briefly is described 00:09:48.08\00:09:50.82 as a black horse that describes the time period after 313, 00:09:50.82\00:09:54.79 when you had the legalization of Christianity, 00:09:54.79\00:09:57.39 and over the centuries that followed, 00:09:57.39\00:09:58.93 all kinds of pagan practices 00:09:58.93\00:10:00.80 found their way into the Christian Church. 00:10:00.80\00:10:03.83 That leads into the dark ages as we know. 00:10:03.83\00:10:06.97 And during the dark ages, 00:10:06.97\00:10:08.27 which is the fourth horse or the fourth seal, 00:10:08.27\00:10:11.14 it describes the time of death and famine. 00:10:11.14\00:10:14.18 And this was really a description of what was 00:10:14.18\00:10:16.41 happening in Western Europe, 00:10:16.41\00:10:17.81 in the Christian nations of Western Europe at this time. 00:10:17.81\00:10:20.08 There was a terrible plague called the Bubonic plague 00:10:20.08\00:10:22.72 known as the Black Death that killed 00:10:22.72\00:10:24.55 an estimated quarter of the population of Western Europe. 00:10:24.55\00:10:28.72 That's one in four people died from the Black Death. 00:10:28.72\00:10:33.03 So there was a terrible time that happened there 00:10:33.03\00:10:35.33 during the dark ages. 00:10:35.33\00:10:37.33 The next seal talks about the reformation persecution. 00:10:37.33\00:10:40.97 So the seals have a historical application. 00:10:40.97\00:10:43.47 However, there are different aspects of the seal 00:10:43.47\00:10:46.27 that we find echoed in the seven last plagues. 00:10:46.27\00:10:50.11 And we know that the seven last plagues 00:10:50.11\00:10:51.71 is yet in the future. 00:10:51.71\00:10:53.88 Jesus said one of the signs of the last days 00:10:53.88\00:10:55.78 would be an increase in pestilence. 00:10:55.78\00:10:57.22 And Pastor Carlos, it seems like we're seeing 00:10:57.22\00:10:59.62 an incredible increase in disease. 00:10:59.62\00:11:01.29 And of course, we're in the midst of a global pandemic. 00:11:01.29\00:11:03.56 - Pandemic. 00:11:03.56\00:11:04.66 - So I think that is one of the signs 00:11:04.66\00:11:06.63 that we are nearing what the Bible says, 00:11:06.63\00:11:09.63 we are nearing closer to the second coming of Jesus. 00:11:09.63\00:11:12.13 Does that help, Martha? 00:11:12.13\00:11:13.74 - Yes, it did. 00:11:14.67\00:11:15.74 And I thank you for your time and your wisdom 00:11:15.74\00:11:18.87 and I really appreciate it. 00:11:18.87\00:11:20.84 - All right, thank you for your call. 00:11:20.84\00:11:22.68 - All right, next we have Brittany from here, 00:11:22.68\00:11:24.71 Sacramento, California. 00:11:24.71\00:11:26.28 Good evening, Brittany, you're on the air. 00:11:26.28\00:11:28.42 - [Brittany] What does the Bible say about persecution? 00:11:29.78\00:11:32.92 - All right, what does the Bible say about persecution? 00:11:32.92\00:11:35.02 Well, persecution comes to those 00:11:35.02\00:11:37.89 who are standing up for what they believe to be true. 00:11:37.89\00:11:41.93 Now there is good persecution, 00:11:41.93\00:11:43.60 but there can also be bad persecution. 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.67 There are those who stand up for things that are not true 00:11:47.17\00:11:49.44 and they might face opposition or trials of persecution. 00:11:49.44\00:11:52.84 But from a Biblical perspective 00:11:52.84\00:11:54.94 throughout Christian history, 00:11:54.94\00:11:57.21 those who have stood for the truths of the Bible, 00:11:57.21\00:11:59.28 they did face opposition. 00:11:59.28\00:12:01.12 At sometimes the persecution was terrible, 00:12:01.12\00:12:04.59 at other times, it wasn't as intense. 00:12:04.59\00:12:07.32 But if we were standing up for Bible truth, 00:12:07.32\00:12:09.52 we will face opposition because those who are opposed 00:12:09.52\00:12:13.13 to the light, they don't want you to be sharing your faith, 00:12:13.13\00:12:16.67 they don't like that. 00:12:16.67\00:12:17.77 And so yes, those who try to live a godly life 00:12:17.77\00:12:19.80 will face trials and persecution. 00:12:19.80\00:12:21.80 Jesus faced trials when He was on the earth, 00:12:21.80\00:12:23.91 His disciples faced trials. 00:12:23.91\00:12:25.67 And in the last days, 00:12:25.67\00:12:27.04 according to the three angels messages, 00:12:27.04\00:12:29.24 the Bible speaks of those who are true to God, 00:12:29.24\00:12:31.58 they also will face persecution and trial, 00:12:31.58\00:12:34.42 but God will sustain them and carry them through. 00:12:34.42\00:12:36.35 So yes, the Bible does talk about trials and persecution 00:12:36.35\00:12:39.49 coming upon believers. 00:12:39.49\00:12:40.89 - Does that help, Brittany? 00:12:40.89\00:12:42.29 - Yeah, that's great. 00:12:43.59\00:12:44.39 I'm going through that now 00:12:44.39\00:12:45.46 because I have this class assignment 00:12:45.46\00:12:48.16 and it's driving me crazy 00:12:48.16\00:12:50.10 because I'm only spending 3+ days 00:12:50.10\00:12:54.70 worrying about it and it's starting me nuts. 00:12:54.70\00:12:57.84 - Well, you're right, there are all kinds of things 00:12:57.84\00:12:59.71 that we face from day to day, 00:12:59.71\00:13:00.98 some more important like a class assignment. 00:13:00.98\00:13:03.24 If we're getting a grade, that's an important thing. 00:13:03.24\00:13:05.58 And sometimes we just gotta say, "Lord, I need your help." 00:13:05.58\00:13:08.08 And the Bible tells us to cast all our cares upon Jesus 00:13:08.08\00:13:11.69 for He cares for us. 00:13:11.69\00:13:13.05 That doesn't mean we don't have to do our part, right? 00:13:13.05\00:13:14.62 We always wanna do the best we can. 00:13:14.62\00:13:16.12 So we do everything we can 00:13:16.12\00:13:17.36 and then we leave the results with God. 00:13:17.36\00:13:18.99 We just put our trust in Him. 00:13:18.99\00:13:20.73 Thank you for your call, Brittany. 00:13:20.73\00:13:21.76 Who do we have next? 00:13:21.76\00:13:23.03 - Next we have Jose from Puerto Rico. 00:13:23.03\00:13:25.93 Good evening, Jose. 00:13:25.93\00:13:27.64 - [Jose] Thank you. 00:13:27.64\00:13:28.74 My question is regard the Jesus suffering. 00:13:28.74\00:13:32.44 If Jesus' suffering is a byproduct of our transgression 00:13:33.74\00:13:38.35 or our requirement for our salvation. 00:13:39.48\00:13:41.92 And the question is anchored in the, for example, Isiah 53, 00:13:41.92\00:13:45.92 the reason for His suffering. 00:13:45.92\00:13:47.52 As a servant. 00:13:47.52\00:13:48.69 - Okay, all right. 00:13:49.92\00:13:50.73 Thanks for your call, Jose. 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.03 I think we cut off there just a little bit at the end, 00:13:52.03\00:13:54.63 but I think we've got the gist of your question there. 00:13:54.63\00:13:57.90 Christ suffering or His persecution on the earth, 00:13:57.90\00:14:00.07 was that in order to obtain salvation for us, 00:14:00.07\00:14:03.10 or was that an example of His righteousness? 00:14:03.10\00:14:06.94 Both. 00:14:07.71\00:14:08.78 I think on the one hand, all of our problems, 00:14:08.78\00:14:11.61 everyone has sinned and come short of the glory of God. 00:14:11.61\00:14:13.95 We're in need of righteousness. 00:14:13.95\00:14:15.75 And of ourselves, we cannot produce righteousness, 00:14:15.75\00:14:18.79 but Jesus lived a perfect life from His birth 00:14:18.79\00:14:21.29 till His crucifixion, perfect life, 00:14:21.29\00:14:23.69 a perfect life of righteousness. 00:14:23.69\00:14:26.09 Not only did He die for our sins, 00:14:26.09\00:14:29.00 but He also lived a perfect life for our salvation as well. 00:14:29.00\00:14:33.20 So when we accept Jesus, a personal Savior, 00:14:33.20\00:14:35.30 not only are our sins paid for, 00:14:35.30\00:14:37.71 but His life of righteousness 00:14:37.71\00:14:39.57 stands in the place of our lives of unrighteousness, 00:14:39.57\00:14:42.84 and we stand before God just as if we have never sinned. 00:14:42.84\00:14:46.28 So yes, the trials that Jesus went through 00:14:46.28\00:14:48.15 were very real and we can claim His life of righteousness 00:14:48.15\00:14:52.99 on our behalf. 00:14:52.99\00:14:54.09 And that's the, the public truth, 00:14:54.09\00:14:55.46 the theological term there, Pastor Carlos, justification, 00:14:55.46\00:14:58.46 where we're accepted before God 00:14:58.46\00:15:00.56 just as if we have never sinned, 00:15:00.56\00:15:01.86 we are clothed in Christ's robe of righteousness. 00:15:01.86\00:15:04.13 - Amen. 00:15:04.13\00:15:05.50 And that same power that was manifested in His life 00:15:05.50\00:15:07.50 is also given to us to participate in the divine 00:15:07.50\00:15:10.44 nature. - And the theological term for that is called 00:15:10.44\00:15:12.54 sanctification. - Sanctification. 00:15:12.54\00:15:13.91 - So not only does He forgive us, 00:15:13.91\00:15:15.88 but He transforms us. - Amen. 00:15:15.88\00:15:17.68 - And then that leads to our final hope, 00:15:17.68\00:15:19.78 and that is glorification. - Glorification. 00:15:19.78\00:15:21.08 - Glorification is when Jesus comes again, 00:15:21.08\00:15:23.42 when these mortal bodies put on immortality. 00:15:23.42\00:15:25.95 Of cause that's the great hope of the Christian. 00:15:25.95\00:15:27.82 - Amen. - Thanks for call, Jose. 00:15:27.82\00:15:28.86 Who do we have next. 00:15:28.86\00:15:29.99 - Trent from Austin, Texas. 00:15:29.99\00:15:32.23 Hello, Trent, you are on the air. 00:15:32.23\00:15:33.80 Welcome. 00:15:33.80\00:15:34.83 - [Trent] Just wanna let you know, 00:15:34.83\00:15:35.93 I'm a former AFCOE student from 2015. 00:15:35.93\00:15:38.00 So it's good - Oh, good 00:15:38.00\00:15:39.10 - [Trent] To talk to you again, Doug. 00:15:39.10\00:15:39.77 - All right, great. 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.07 - [Trent] Yeah, so my question is in Ezekiel chapter 40 00:15:41.07\00:15:45.81 through 48, there's that long prophecy of the vision 00:15:45.81\00:15:50.61 that Ezekiel had about a third temple being built. 00:15:50.61\00:15:54.25 And I was wondering, 00:15:54.25\00:15:55.55 is that the one that's being talked about 00:15:55.55\00:15:57.59 that's being built in on the new earth during the millennium 00:15:57.59\00:16:02.06 or in heaven in the millennium 00:16:02.06\00:16:03.53 or what temple's that supposed to be exactly? 00:16:03.53\00:16:06.59 Okay. - [Trent] And how do we know. 00:16:06.59\00:16:07.66 - All right, there's two parts to that temple 00:16:07.66\00:16:09.16 that's being described. 00:16:09.16\00:16:10.63 The temple described that we find Ezekiel 00:16:10.63\00:16:12.53 is really a description. 00:16:12.53\00:16:14.10 Now bear with me, is a description of the church 00:16:14.10\00:16:18.61 triumphant. The characteristics given of that temple 00:16:18.61\00:16:20.98 is a description of God's people 00:16:20.98\00:16:22.94 empowered by the Holy Spirit, 00:16:22.94\00:16:24.78 going forth to the nations of the world, 00:16:24.78\00:16:26.72 preaching the gospel. 00:16:26.72\00:16:27.75 There's a great revival that takes place. 00:16:27.75\00:16:30.12 So that temple has a symbolic application. 00:16:30.12\00:16:33.86 Now, if Israel had been faithful 00:16:33.86\00:16:36.06 and they had fulfilled all of the requirements 00:16:36.06\00:16:38.43 that God had placed, perhaps in a very real sense 00:16:38.43\00:16:41.33 that temple could have existed here on the earth, 00:16:41.33\00:16:43.87 but the covenant required an agreement on both sides. 00:16:43.87\00:16:47.77 And unfortunately, Israel fell short in that, 00:16:47.77\00:16:50.24 they eventually rejected the Messiah, 00:16:50.24\00:16:51.87 and as you know, Christ ended up being crucified. 00:16:51.87\00:16:54.24 But in the Bible we find five different types of temples 00:16:54.24\00:16:58.05 or sanctuaries. 00:16:58.05\00:16:59.45 You have the heavenly that you read about in Hebrews, 00:16:59.45\00:17:01.58 you have the earthly, 00:17:01.58\00:17:02.62 the one that Moses built in the wilderness, 00:17:02.62\00:17:04.25 you read about in Exodus. 00:17:04.25\00:17:05.79 And then of course you also have another temple 00:17:05.79\00:17:07.46 that Solomon built. 00:17:07.46\00:17:08.32 And then the one that was rebuilt 00:17:08.32\00:17:09.42 after the seven years of Babylon in captivity, 00:17:09.42\00:17:11.63 that's all the earthly. 00:17:11.63\00:17:13.19 And then Jesus said, speaking of Himself, 00:17:13.19\00:17:15.23 destroy this temple. 00:17:15.23\00:17:16.30 I mean, three days I will raise it up again. 00:17:16.30\00:17:18.50 So Christ is described as a temple. 00:17:18.50\00:17:21.50 And then the Bible says, 00:17:21.50\00:17:22.54 "No, you know that your body is the temple 00:17:22.54\00:17:24.21 of the Holy Spirit." 00:17:24.21\00:17:25.34 So if the Holy Spirit is working within us, 00:17:25.34\00:17:27.78 we're a temple, a temple for God. 00:17:27.78\00:17:30.81 And then I think the one that connects with this passage 00:17:30.81\00:17:33.55 in Ezekiel, the Bible says, "Know you not 00:17:33.55\00:17:35.95 that you're living stones." 00:17:35.95\00:17:37.35 Speaking of the church and Christ is the cornerstone 00:17:37.35\00:17:40.56 we all built up together. 00:17:40.56\00:17:42.19 So this temple description here 00:17:42.19\00:17:44.26 is a description of God's people, 00:17:44.26\00:17:45.79 especially in the last days 00:17:45.79\00:17:47.46 that are taking the everlasting gospel to the world. 00:17:47.46\00:17:50.57 Hope that helps, Trent. 00:17:50.57\00:17:52.37 - All right, next we have Efrank from New York. 00:17:52.37\00:17:56.60 - [Efrank] Yeah, yeah, yeah, 00:17:56.60\00:17:57.81 Pastor Ross and Pastor Carlos, 00:17:57.81\00:18:00.98 I have a question for you gentlemen tonight 00:18:00.98\00:18:02.91 that I'm concerned in regards 00:18:02.91\00:18:06.08 because I've been believing for many, many years 00:18:06.08\00:18:08.85 in celebrating Easter in a Christian way, 00:18:08.85\00:18:13.76 which I discovered was not Christian by believing 00:18:13.76\00:18:16.49 in figures like the Easter bunny, Easter candy, 00:18:16.49\00:18:20.46 and other pagan beliefs. 00:18:20.46\00:18:22.53 And my question for you gentleman tonight is, 00:18:22.53\00:18:24.97 is it written in the Bible that those things 00:18:24.97\00:18:28.90 like the Easter bunny and other fictitious characters 00:18:28.90\00:18:32.77 are not found in the Bible and they are not Christian 00:18:32.77\00:18:37.11 because it leads to a form of paganism, 00:18:37.11\00:18:41.22 because I always thought that 00:18:41.22\00:18:42.32 maybe believing in a very fictitious rabbit 00:18:42.32\00:18:46.29 that's giving candy on a certain period of time of the year 00:18:46.29\00:18:51.36 was not such a bad idea. 00:18:52.03\00:18:52.83 But when I read the Bible, 00:18:52.83\00:18:53.90 I saw that those were pagan beliefs. 00:18:53.90\00:18:56.30 - Yeah, well, let me say something about that, Efrank. 00:18:56.30\00:18:58.07 Thanks for your call. 00:18:58.07\00:18:59.13 All right, so first of all, 00:18:59.13\00:19:00.34 does the resurrection of Jesus have anything 00:19:00.34\00:19:02.27 to do with Easter eggs or rabbits or bunnies? 00:19:02.27\00:19:05.74 And the answer of course is no. 00:19:05.74\00:19:07.84 The whole idea of Easter, 00:19:07.84\00:19:08.91 you don't find the word Easter in the Bible. 00:19:08.91\00:19:10.28 Now in the king James Version, you'll find the word Easter, 00:19:10.28\00:19:13.18 but more accurate translation of that 00:19:13.18\00:19:15.25 is actually a reference to the Passover. 00:19:15.25\00:19:17.15 You'll find that in the New King James 00:19:17.15\00:19:18.59 and other translations today 00:19:18.59\00:19:20.12 had used the word Passover. 00:19:20.12\00:19:21.76 So during the middle ages from 313 AD onwards, 00:19:21.76\00:19:26.83 as Christianity was legalized in the Roman empire, 00:19:28.03\00:19:29.53 there were a number of pagan practices 00:19:29.53\00:19:31.53 that came into the church 00:19:31.53\00:19:34.07 in an attempt to try and draw in the pagans. 00:19:34.07\00:19:37.31 And even some pagan holidays or pagan icons 00:19:37.31\00:19:41.48 eventually got Christian names. 00:19:41.48\00:19:43.75 Even some pagan statues were renamed 00:19:43.75\00:19:46.25 after certain Bible characters, 00:19:46.25\00:19:48.42 but they were actually Pagan's statues. 00:19:48.42\00:19:50.75 So when it comes to Easter 00:19:50.75\00:19:52.15 or it comes to celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, 00:19:52.15\00:19:54.79 yes, there are some pagan trappings that you find there. 00:19:54.79\00:19:58.79 Now, to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, 00:19:59.93\00:20:03.10 I mean that's a wonderful thing 00:20:03.10\00:20:04.93 and the Bible celebrates His resurrection 00:20:04.93\00:20:07.70 from cover to cover in the Old Testament, 00:20:07.70\00:20:09.57 in symbols and types, and in the New Testament, 00:20:09.57\00:20:12.17 you have the stories of the resurrection of Jesus. 00:20:12.17\00:20:14.44 The Bible does tell us though that baptism 00:20:14.44\00:20:17.01 is the symbol that God has chosen, 00:20:17.01\00:20:19.18 baptism by immersion to celebrate His resurrection, 00:20:19.18\00:20:22.62 death to the old, resurrection to the new life. 00:20:22.62\00:20:25.15 But to remember the resurrection of Jesus 00:20:25.15\00:20:27.92 around the Passover is by no means wrong, 00:20:27.92\00:20:31.96 but I think we need to be careful 00:20:31.96\00:20:33.66 in trying to place some value on these pagan ideas 00:20:33.66\00:20:38.00 that have kind of come into Christianity. 00:20:38.00\00:20:41.77 We do have a book, Pastor Carlos 00:20:41.77\00:20:43.27 is called "Baptized Paganism," 00:20:43.27\00:20:45.31 and we'll be happy to send this to anybody 00:20:45.31\00:20:47.01 who calls and ask. 00:20:47.01\00:20:48.54 And it'll kind of give you some of those pagan origins 00:20:48.54\00:20:51.61 of some traditions that have found their way 00:20:51.61\00:20:53.98 into the Christian Church. 00:20:53.98\00:20:55.58 And I think you'd find that interesting 00:20:55.58\00:20:57.09 if you were to read that. 00:20:57.09\00:20:58.62 Just call and ask for the book "Baptize Paganism." 00:20:58.62\00:21:00.59 - 1-800-835-6747. 00:21:00.59\00:21:03.63 - All right, thanks for your call Efrank. 00:21:03.63\00:21:04.86 Who do we have next? 00:21:04.86\00:21:06.23 - Jeff from Arizona you are on the air. 00:21:06.23\00:21:08.53 Welcome, Jeff. 00:21:08.53\00:21:09.60 - [Jeff] Hey, good evening, guys. 00:21:10.67\00:21:12.20 Real quick before I ask my question, 00:21:12.20\00:21:15.04 I'm not a Seventh-day Adventist, 00:21:15.04\00:21:16.67 but we are basically 99% identical. 00:21:16.67\00:21:19.97 - Okay. 00:21:19.97\00:21:21.48 - I believe Sabbath is Saturday, 00:21:21.48\00:21:23.61 yes, absolutely, baptism by immersion, everything. 00:21:23.61\00:21:27.28 We're pretty much identical. 00:21:28.42\00:21:30.22 Question I have is to do with soul sleeping. 00:21:30.22\00:21:34.12 So in Matthew, what is it? 00:21:34.12\00:21:38.13 Matthew 27:38, I think it is 00:21:38.13\00:21:41.20 where the thief on the cross tells Jesus, 00:21:41.20\00:21:43.90 "Hey, Master, you know, don't forget me." 00:21:43.90\00:21:46.10 And Jesus said, "Today you'll be with Me in paradise." 00:21:46.10\00:21:50.11 So is the term paradise 00:21:50.11\00:21:53.58 is that speaking of Him actually 00:21:53.58\00:21:58.15 as one of the very few that are in heaven? 00:21:58.15\00:22:00.72 - All right, good question. 00:22:00.72\00:22:01.75 What about that passage that you find, 00:22:01.75\00:22:03.22 it's actually in Luke, 00:22:03.22\00:22:04.29 where it talks about Jesus saying 00:22:04.29\00:22:06.12 to one of the thieves on the cross, 00:22:06.12\00:22:07.46 I think Carlos is looking up the verse for us there in Luke. 00:22:07.46\00:22:09.26 So there's two there's on either side of Jesus. 00:22:09.26\00:22:12.46 The one is saying, "If you are the Christ, 00:22:12.46\00:22:15.86 then come down from the cross and save us." 00:22:15.86\00:22:17.80 That's what one of the thieves was saying. 00:22:17.80\00:22:20.17 Apparently both of them at first were saying that. 00:22:20.17\00:22:22.27 But as the one was listening to what was happening, 00:22:22.27\00:22:25.11 observing what was happening, conviction took ahold of him. 00:22:25.11\00:22:27.28 And he finally turned to the other thief and said, 00:22:27.28\00:22:29.54 "You know, we are getting what we deserve, 00:22:29.54\00:22:31.18 but this Man," speaking of Jesus, 00:22:31.18\00:22:32.51 "He has done nothing wrong." 00:22:32.51\00:22:33.85 And then the Holy Spirit even illuminated his mind more 00:22:33.85\00:22:36.48 because he finally turns to Jesus and he says, 00:22:36.48\00:22:38.62 "Master, remember me when You come in Your kingdom." 00:22:38.62\00:22:42.82 Now it's important for us to note, 00:22:42.82\00:22:44.19 the thief was not expecting to receive his reward that day. 00:22:44.19\00:22:47.00 He said, "Lord, remember me when You come in Your kingdom." 00:22:47.00\00:22:49.83 Jesus then responded and said, 00:22:49.83\00:22:51.37 "Assuredly I sound to you today, 00:22:51.37\00:22:53.44 you will be with Me in paradise." 00:22:53.44\00:22:55.20 Now in the original Greek, there are no punctuation. 00:22:55.20\00:22:58.11 There's no commas in the original Greek 00:22:58.11\00:22:59.74 that came many years later. 00:22:59.74\00:23:01.38 And depending upon where you put the comma, 00:23:01.38\00:23:03.31 that can change the context of that verse, 00:23:03.31\00:23:06.08 the words that Jesus is saying. 00:23:07.18\00:23:09.08 You see, Jesus was not saying that the thief 00:23:09.08\00:23:11.42 would be with Him in paradise that day, 00:23:11.42\00:23:14.22 because you read on Sunday morning, 00:23:14.22\00:23:16.02 the resurrection, Jesus said, 00:23:16.02\00:23:17.83 "I've not yet ascended to My Father in heaven." 00:23:17.83\00:23:20.26 So Jesus didn't go to heaven the moment He died 00:23:20.26\00:23:23.37 on Friday afternoon, 00:23:23.37\00:23:25.20 but rather what Jesus said to the thief that day, 00:23:25.20\00:23:28.44 that He would remember him when He comes in His kingdom, 00:23:28.44\00:23:31.71 He gave him the assurance. 00:23:31.71\00:23:33.27 Why is that so important? 00:23:33.27\00:23:34.38 When you accept Jesus as your personal Savior, 00:23:34.38\00:23:37.25 you have the assurance that very moment, that day, 00:23:37.25\00:23:41.15 you can have the assurance that God will remember you. 00:23:41.15\00:23:44.75 Now, of course, we wanna stay connected to Jesus, 00:23:44.75\00:23:46.72 we wanna trust in Him, 00:23:46.72\00:23:48.09 but we can receive that forgiveness that very day. 00:23:48.09\00:23:50.93 We don't have to wait, there's no time 00:23:50.93\00:23:53.60 where we need to prove that we are genuine with God. 00:23:53.60\00:23:56.83 We can, by faith, claim the promise 00:23:56.83\00:23:58.53 that He wants to give us 00:23:58.53\00:23:59.73 and that's what Christ was emphasizing 00:23:59.73\00:24:01.10 to the thief that day. 00:24:01.10\00:24:02.17 - Amen, and that's Luke 23 verse 42 and 43. 00:24:02.17\00:24:06.14 - Thanks, Jeff. - All right. 00:24:06.14\00:24:07.24 Next we have Judy from Texas. 00:24:07.24\00:24:09.91 Good evening, Judy. 00:24:09.91\00:24:11.55 - [Judy] Hi, good evening, pastors. 00:24:11.55\00:24:13.08 Thank you so much for being there to answer our questions. 00:24:13.08\00:24:16.12 - Happy to do it. 00:24:16.12\00:24:17.05 - [Judy] I have a question about Genesis 3:6 00:24:18.32\00:24:20.99 when the serpent is enticing Eve in the garden. 00:24:20.99\00:24:26.06 And it says, "And when the woman saw 00:24:27.20\00:24:28.16 that the tree was good for food 00:24:28.16\00:24:29.83 and that it was pleasant to the eyes 00:24:29.83\00:24:32.17 and the tree to be desired to make one wise, 00:24:32.17\00:24:34.77 she took up the fruit thereof and did eat 00:24:34.77\00:24:37.24 and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat." 00:24:37.24\00:24:42.21 Does this mean he was with her 00:24:42.21\00:24:44.75 when the serpent was doing his thing. 00:24:44.75\00:24:47.68 - Oh, okay, good question. 00:24:47.68\00:24:49.38 The answer is no, he wasn't at the tree 00:24:49.38\00:24:51.72 when Eve was talking to the serpent. 00:24:51.72\00:24:53.12 Apparently Eve sort of wandered off by herself 00:24:53.12\00:24:55.92 for a little while. 00:24:55.92\00:24:56.99 We don't know how far Adam was from Eve, 00:24:56.99\00:24:58.73 but when it says her husband with her, 00:24:58.73\00:25:01.63 it's referring to in the garden, her companion, her friend. 00:25:01.63\00:25:05.10 So she took of the fruit and she gave it to Adam. 00:25:05.10\00:25:08.94 And we know Adam wasn't there because she brought it to him 00:25:08.94\00:25:11.21 and she gave it to him and she said, 00:25:11.21\00:25:12.87 "I've eaten of the fruit, 00:25:12.87\00:25:14.11 you need to eat of the fruit." 00:25:14.11\00:25:15.71 And eventually Adam took and ate. 00:25:15.71\00:25:17.35 So he wasn't there at the moment when the devil tempted her, 00:25:17.35\00:25:22.08 but he was in the garden with her. 00:25:22.08\00:25:24.09 And that's the reference or that's the emphasis 00:25:24.09\00:25:26.49 of that verse that we find there. 00:25:26.49\00:25:28.92 Does that help, Judy? 00:25:28.92\00:25:30.03 - Helps a lot. 00:25:31.33\00:25:32.13 Could I pop in a real quick one? 00:25:32.13\00:25:33.40 My daughter and my son-in-law argued with me 00:25:33.40\00:25:36.10 about how do we know Saturday is the seventh day. 00:25:36.10\00:25:40.77 - Okay. 00:25:40.77\00:25:42.10 - [Judy] 'Cause anybody could have named Saturday Monday 00:25:42.10\00:25:43.91 or Sunday Monday. 00:25:43.91\00:25:45.37 I'm having a hard time convincing them. 00:25:45.37\00:25:47.61 - All right, let me see if I can answer this, 00:25:47.61\00:25:49.38 we got just a few seconds before our break. 00:25:49.38\00:25:51.81 Yes, the seventh day of the week is Saturday. 00:25:51.81\00:25:53.85 We know that because Jesus died on Friday 00:25:53.85\00:25:56.02 and that's called the preparation day. 00:25:56.02\00:25:57.99 He rested in the tomb on Saturday and He rose on Sunday, 00:25:57.99\00:26:01.32 which is the first day of the week. 00:26:01.32\00:26:03.63 So if you just look at the experience of Jesus 00:26:03.63\00:26:06.59 and then of course you can ask any Jew, 00:26:06.59\00:26:08.50 what day of the week is the Sabbath? 00:26:08.50\00:26:09.83 And they'll say it's the seventh day, it's Saturday, 00:26:09.83\00:26:12.47 and of course the whole nation of Israel has been keeping, 00:26:12.47\00:26:15.10 at least the Orthodox Jews 00:26:15.10\00:26:16.40 have been keeping the seventh day as the Sabbath. 00:26:16.40\00:26:18.34 So if you look at the Jewish nation, 00:26:18.34\00:26:20.21 you look at the Bible, you look at the experience of Jesus, 00:26:20.21\00:26:22.68 it makes it quite clear. 00:26:22.68\00:26:23.81 There's no doubt as to which day of the week 00:26:23.81\00:26:25.45 is the seventh day. 00:26:25.45\00:26:27.05 That would be, as we know it today, Saturday. 00:26:27.05\00:26:30.65 Well, friends, you hear the music in the background. 00:26:30.65\00:26:32.35 The program is not over, we're just taking a short break 00:26:32.35\00:26:35.32 and we'll come back with more of your Bible questions. 00:26:35.32\00:26:37.49 So don't go far, we'll be right back. 00:26:37.49\00:26:39.26 (bright music) 00:26:39.26\00:26:42.63 - [Announcer] Stay tuned. 00:26:42.63\00:26:43.77 "Bible Answers Live" will return shortly. 00:26:43.77\00:26:46.17 - [Announcer 2] Amazing Facts offer 00:26:50.87\00:26:52.24 some of the best Christian resources for all ages. 00:26:52.24\00:26:55.18 We hope our products will enrich your life 00:26:55.18\00:26:57.11 and your walk with the Lord. 00:26:57.11\00:26:59.31 In the "Blueprint" Bible lessons, 00:26:59.31\00:27:01.35 you'll uncover the history of good versus evil 00:27:02.65\00:27:05.09 and learn how this ages old conflict 00:27:05.09\00:27:07.56 makes sense of our world and your life. 00:27:07.56\00:27:10.56 - [Announcer 3] Get yours today by calling 800-538-7275 00:27:12.03\00:27:16.73 or visit afbookstore.com. 00:27:16.73\00:27:19.00 (door creaking) 00:27:22.27\00:27:25.01 - [Narrator] Throughout recorded history, 00:27:27.41\00:27:29.61 tales of ghosts and spirits can be found in folklore 00:27:29.61\00:27:33.15 in nearly every country and culture. 00:27:33.15\00:27:36.35 Egyptians built pyramids 00:27:37.22\00:27:38.99 to help guide the spirits of their leaders. 00:27:38.99\00:27:41.86 Rome sanctioned holidays to honor and appease 00:27:41.86\00:27:45.19 the spirits of their dead. 00:27:45.19\00:27:46.86 Even the Bible tells of a king that used a witch 00:27:46.86\00:27:50.60 to contact the spirit of a deceased prophet. 00:27:50.60\00:27:54.00 Today, ancient folklore of spirits and apparitions 00:27:54.00\00:27:57.44 have gone from mere superstitions 00:27:57.44\00:27:59.84 to mainstream entertainment and reality. 00:27:59.84\00:28:03.78 Scientific organizations 00:28:03.78\00:28:05.41 investigate stories of hauntings and sightings, 00:28:05.41\00:28:08.32 trying to prove once and for all the existence of ghosts. 00:28:08.32\00:28:13.39 Even with all the newfound technology 00:28:15.96\00:28:18.59 and centuries of stories all over the world, 00:28:18.59\00:28:21.86 there is still no clear cut answer. 00:28:21.86\00:28:25.17 So how do we know what's true? 00:30:09.20\00:30:10.51 - We have Chi from New York. 00:30:10.51\00:30:12.77 Welcome, Chi, you are on the air. 00:30:12.77\00:30:14.91 - [Chi] Thank you so much. 00:30:14.91\00:30:16.28 I want to know what the Bible says is in 1 Peter 3:19-20. 00:30:16.28\00:30:20.62 - All right, well, why don't I read it 00:30:21.72\00:30:22.82 for those who are driving. 00:30:22.82\00:30:24.42 Verse 19 says, "By whom also he went 00:30:25.55\00:30:27.96 and preached to the spirits in prison 00:30:27.96\00:30:30.26 who formally were disobedient 00:30:30.26\00:30:32.06 when once the divine long suffering waited 00:30:32.06\00:30:34.03 in the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared, 00:30:34.03\00:30:37.33 in which few that his eight souls were saved 00:30:37.33\00:30:40.27 through the water." 00:30:40.27\00:30:41.80 So you're probably wondering about these spirits in prison. 00:30:41.80\00:30:44.47 - [Chi] Yeah, I was trying to minister to one of my friends 00:30:45.97\00:30:48.24 and he brought up this classic scripture. 00:30:48.24\00:30:50.38 I couldn't explain it. 00:30:50.38\00:30:51.58 - Oh, okay, great question. 00:30:51.58\00:30:53.55 Well, in order to understand 00:30:53.55\00:30:54.92 what Peter is talking about here, 00:30:54.92\00:30:57.22 we need to read the previous verse, which is verse 18. 00:30:57.22\00:31:00.06 So I started reading verse 19, 00:31:00.06\00:31:01.52 but I'm gonna start now in verse 18 00:31:01.52\00:31:03.22 and you'll get the context 00:31:03.22\00:31:04.79 and then it begins to make sense. 00:31:04.79\00:31:06.39 It says, "For Christ also suffered once for sin, 00:31:06.39\00:31:08.63 the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, 00:31:08.63\00:31:12.80 being put to death in the flesh, 00:31:12.80\00:31:14.74 but made alive by the Spirit." 00:31:14.74\00:31:18.41 Now I wanna pause right there. 00:31:18.41\00:31:19.47 The subject that Peter is addressing here 00:31:19.47\00:31:21.81 in this passage is the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, 00:31:21.81\00:31:24.51 the Holy Spirit that made Christ alive. 00:31:24.51\00:31:27.22 And then he says in verse 19, 00:31:27.22\00:31:29.22 "By whom, 00:31:29.22\00:31:30.92 by whom," that is the Spirit, 00:31:30.92\00:31:32.72 "By whom He," Jesus, 00:31:32.72\00:31:34.66 "went and preached to the spirits in prison 00:31:34.66\00:31:38.56 that were disobedient in the days before the flood" 00:31:38.56\00:31:42.30 or in the days before Noah. 00:31:42.30\00:31:43.60 And you can read the rest of the verse there. 00:31:43.60\00:31:45.47 So what's been addressed here is that Jesus 00:31:45.47\00:31:48.00 was resurrected by the same Spirit 00:31:48.00\00:31:50.21 that He preached to the antediluvian world. 00:31:50.21\00:31:53.68 So those living before the flood, 00:31:53.68\00:31:55.34 the Holy Spirit was preaching to them. 00:31:55.34\00:31:58.38 And it was Christ through the Spirit 00:31:58.38\00:32:00.18 that was preaching to them. 00:32:00.18\00:32:01.75 And how do we know that? 00:32:01.75\00:32:03.32 Well, we read the account in Genesis 00:32:03.32\00:32:05.25 where the Bible says, 00:32:05.25\00:32:06.59 "My Spirit shall not always strive with man, 00:32:06.59\00:32:10.03 but his days shall be 120 years." 00:32:10.03\00:32:12.56 So during that time period, 00:32:12.56\00:32:13.96 the Holy Spirit was striving with those before the flood, 00:32:13.96\00:32:17.30 but they hardened their heart. 00:32:17.30\00:32:19.07 Now it was the Spirit of God, 00:32:19.07\00:32:20.87 it was in essence Christ through the Spirit 00:32:20.87\00:32:23.00 that was appealing to them, 00:32:23.00\00:32:24.34 asking them to come to repentance. 00:32:24.34\00:32:26.34 They refused and so the Bible goes on in verse 20 00:32:26.34\00:32:29.38 to tell us that only eight souls were saved, 00:32:29.38\00:32:31.71 that would be Noah and his family. 00:32:31.71\00:32:33.95 So it's not talking about when Jesus died, 00:32:33.95\00:32:36.35 His disembodied Spirit somehow went down into hell 00:32:36.35\00:32:40.76 to the people that were there before the flood. 00:32:40.76\00:32:42.86 There's a whole doctrine 00:32:42.86\00:32:44.13 that's been built on a misapplication of the phrase, 00:32:44.13\00:32:47.40 the first verse in verse 18, which talks about the Spirit. 00:32:47.40\00:32:50.67 It's the Holy Spirit that being emphasized. 00:32:50.67\00:32:52.63 And the Holy Spirit did speak to the people 00:32:52.63\00:32:54.90 before the flood. 00:32:54.90\00:32:56.10 - Yeah, I think there's a great verse also 00:32:56.10\00:32:57.21 in Isaiah 42:6-7. 00:32:57.21\00:32:59.47 It says talking, the Father about the Son. 00:32:59.47\00:33:01.71 "I have given you as a covenant, as light to the Gentiles," 00:33:01.71\00:33:04.51 and Isaiah 42:7 says, "To open blind eyes 00:33:04.51\00:33:07.18 and to bring out prisoners from the prison." 00:33:07.18\00:33:09.22 - Ah-huh. - So it's the prisonment 00:33:09.22\00:33:11.09 of the mind to slavery to sin. 00:33:11.09\00:33:13.52 - That's right. - That's liberating us. 00:33:13.52\00:33:15.52 - And of course that's part of the mission of Jesus 00:33:15.52\00:33:17.19 said, "I've come to set the captors free." 00:33:17.19\00:33:19.13 - Amen. 00:33:19.13\00:33:20.23 - Well, He didn't break down any prison doors, 00:33:20.23\00:33:22.03 but spiritually speaking, He set the captives of sin free. 00:33:22.03\00:33:25.07 - Amen. - And that's really, 00:33:25.07\00:33:26.13 what's been addressed here in the verse. 00:33:26.13\00:33:27.34 Does that help, Chi? 00:33:27.34\00:33:28.40 - Yeah, it's helped a lot. 00:33:29.64\00:33:30.64 Thank you so much. 00:33:30.64\00:33:31.77 - Ah, you're welcome, thanks for your call. 00:33:31.77\00:33:32.84 - All right, thank you very much. 00:33:32.84\00:33:33.94 Next we have Jerry from Rocky Place, Georgia. 00:33:33.94\00:33:36.61 Good evening, Jerry to "Bible Answers Live." 00:33:36.61\00:33:38.88 - [Jerry] Good evening to you. 00:33:39.95\00:33:41.45 - Hey. 00:33:41.45\00:33:42.52 - [Jerry] I'm just wondering about John, 00:33:42.52\00:33:45.25 the gospel of John 10:34 is what I was wondering 00:33:45.25\00:33:50.33 what y'all thought about, 00:33:51.13\00:33:52.43 but you might wanna start with 33, 34, and 35. 00:33:52.43\00:33:55.60 - Yeah, all right, thanks, Jerry. 00:33:55.60\00:33:57.30 I'm gonna read it for those who are driving in their car. 00:33:57.30\00:34:00.20 I'll start over here in verse, 00:34:00.20\00:34:02.74 let me start in verse 32 just so we get the context. 00:34:02.74\00:34:05.01 Jesus answered them. 00:34:05.01\00:34:06.04 Christ is having a discussion 00:34:06.04\00:34:07.14 with the religious leaders of His day. 00:34:07.14\00:34:09.11 "Many good works I've shown you from My Father, 00:34:09.11\00:34:12.51 for which of these do you stone Me?" 00:34:12.51\00:34:14.52 And then they respond, verse 33, 00:34:14.52\00:34:16.18 the Jews answered and said, 00:34:16.18\00:34:17.29 "For a good work we do not stone You, 00:34:17.29\00:34:19.79 but for blasphemy 00:34:19.79\00:34:21.39 and because You being a man make Yourself God." 00:34:21.39\00:34:24.93 So Christ would refer to Himself as being the I AM 00:34:24.93\00:34:29.16 or Christ would sometimes say, 00:34:29.16\00:34:30.87 I am the Way, the Truth, the Life 00:34:30.87\00:34:32.80 and the religious leader said, "Ah, this is blasphemy. 00:34:32.80\00:34:35.04 If you claim to be able to forgive sins, 00:34:35.04\00:34:36.87 or if you claim titles that belong to God, 00:34:36.87\00:34:39.94 well, biblically speaking, it's blasphemy." 00:34:39.94\00:34:41.54 Now it was not blasphemy for Jesus for He is God, 00:34:41.54\00:34:44.35 He is the son of God. 00:34:44.35\00:34:46.35 But there was this dispute. 00:34:46.35\00:34:47.58 And verse 34, "Jesus answered them and said, 00:34:47.58\00:34:50.15 'Is it not written in your law, 00:34:50.95\00:34:53.86 'I said, you are gods.' 00:34:53.86\00:34:56.22 If he called them gods to whom the Word of God came 00:34:56.22\00:34:59.59 and the scriptures cannot be broken, 00:34:59.59\00:35:01.56 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified 00:35:01.56\00:35:04.10 and sent into the world 00:35:04.10\00:35:05.33 'You are blaspheming' because I said, 00:35:05.33\00:35:07.60 'I am the son of God?'" 00:35:07.60\00:35:09.60 So He's referring to an Old Testament passage, 00:35:09.60\00:35:12.74 I believe in Psalms. - Yep. 00:35:12.74\00:35:14.44 - Where it refers to people as being gods. 00:35:14.44\00:35:18.21 But it's with a small g, it's not a capital G, 00:35:18.21\00:35:20.82 it's not referring to the divinity, 00:35:20.82\00:35:23.55 but there was certain rulership or lordship. 00:35:23.55\00:35:27.22 Another word for translation that is lord or overseer. 00:35:27.22\00:35:31.26 So Christ is saying, 00:35:31.26\00:35:32.49 "You're condemning Me 00:35:32.49\00:35:33.83 because I'm calling Myself the Son of God 00:35:33.83\00:35:35.56 and yet I have been sanctified by the Father. 00:35:35.56\00:35:37.70 My works prove that I am the son of God." 00:35:37.70\00:35:40.54 And He says, "But you claim to go by the law. 00:35:40.54\00:35:43.71 But the law refers to people as being rulers 00:35:43.71\00:35:47.31 or overseers or lords, and yet you're wanting to condemn Me 00:35:47.31\00:35:51.15 for being a ruler or an overseer or a Lord?" 00:35:51.15\00:35:55.32 In essence, Jesus was just turning the situation 00:35:55.32\00:35:57.69 back on them because they were accusing Him 00:35:57.69\00:36:00.62 of something that He didn't do. 00:36:00.62\00:36:02.89 - And that's in Psalms 82:6. 00:36:02.89\00:36:04.79 - Did that help a little, Jerry? 00:36:05.89\00:36:08.00 - Yeah, that helped some there, 00:36:08.00\00:36:09.90 but I just wondered about, 00:36:09.90\00:36:11.57 of course, I got the old King James Version and gods, 00:36:11.57\00:36:14.97 when it says ye are gods there, it's an all capital letter. 00:36:14.97\00:36:18.24 - Right? 00:36:18.24\00:36:19.34 When it's translated the New King James 00:36:19.34\00:36:20.48 and even actually overhearing John, 00:36:20.48\00:36:21.98 it's all small case gods. 00:36:21.98\00:36:24.38 So it's not referring to the one and only true God. 00:36:24.38\00:36:26.82 Remember the pagans, the nations surrounding Israel, 00:36:26.82\00:36:28.78 they also had deities or gods and that overseers and lords. 00:36:28.78\00:36:33.05 And I think a better word there for God 00:36:33.05\00:36:35.06 if you go back into the original Hebrew 00:36:35.06\00:36:37.06 has to do with rulership or lordship. 00:36:37.06\00:36:39.79 - Yeah. 00:36:39.79\00:36:40.60 - That's really been reflected. 00:36:40.60\00:36:41.36 - It's actually the word Elohim. 00:36:41.36\00:36:43.57 Is the word that shows up - As ruler, lord. 00:36:43.57\00:36:45.57 - Okay. - Judge. 00:36:45.57\00:36:46.70 - Judge, to judge. - Yeah. 00:36:46.70\00:36:48.60 - Okay, well thanks, Jerry. 00:36:48.60\00:36:50.14 Who do we have next? 00:36:50.14\00:36:51.37 - Christopher from Huntington Park, good evening, 00:36:51.37\00:36:52.71 you're on the air. 00:36:52.71\00:36:53.68 - [Christopher] Good evening, Pastor Ross. 00:36:55.74\00:36:57.48 - Yes, welcome. 00:36:57.48\00:36:58.58 - [Christopher] I have a question, 00:36:58.58\00:36:59.65 it's regarding the mixed fabrics. 00:36:59.65\00:37:03.25 - Okay. 00:37:03.25\00:37:04.72 - [Christopher] I just want to know 00:37:04.72\00:37:06.25 if they're part of the ceremonial laws or the moral 00:37:06.25\00:37:08.82 laws, and if they are part of the ceremonial laws, 00:37:08.82\00:37:11.19 are they done away with? 00:37:11.19\00:37:12.43 - Okay, great question. 00:37:12.43\00:37:13.83 All right, let me give you a little background 00:37:13.83\00:37:15.20 for those who might be listening. 00:37:15.20\00:37:16.56 In the Old Testament, we have different categories of law. 00:37:16.56\00:37:19.53 You have, for example, the moral law, 00:37:19.53\00:37:21.57 we call that the Ten Commandments. 00:37:21.57\00:37:22.77 Of course the Ten Commandments are still binding. 00:37:22.77\00:37:24.51 It's still wrong to steal, or kill, 00:37:24.51\00:37:26.01 or committed adultery, it's always been wrong. 00:37:26.01\00:37:28.61 Eve broke one of the 10 commandments, 00:37:28.61\00:37:30.58 actually more than one when she took of the fruit 00:37:30.58\00:37:33.08 that God said don't take and eat. 00:37:33.08\00:37:34.92 She broke the commandment that said thou shall not steal, 00:37:34.92\00:37:37.15 she coveted. 00:37:37.15\00:37:38.49 That's the 10th commandment she gave to her husband who ate. 00:37:38.49\00:37:40.79 Thou shall not murder or kill. 00:37:40.79\00:37:42.19 So you can look at all different types 00:37:42.19\00:37:43.86 of Ten Commandments that she broke. 00:37:43.86\00:37:45.19 So you got the moral law, the Ten Commandments. 00:37:45.19\00:37:46.83 It's always been in effect. 00:37:46.83\00:37:48.10 You have the civil laws. 00:37:48.10\00:37:49.23 The civil laws govern the nation of Israel. 00:37:49.23\00:37:51.27 The principles of the civil law, 00:37:51.27\00:37:53.30 if followed by civil authorities, 00:37:53.30\00:37:56.81 tend to a more prosperous, happier people. 00:37:56.81\00:37:59.94 Many of the nations of Western Europe, 00:38:01.11\00:38:03.41 the Christian nations, 00:38:03.41\00:38:04.48 especially the Protestant nations 00:38:04.48\00:38:06.35 that were founded on Protestantism, 00:38:06.35\00:38:08.92 they prospered because they followed a number 00:38:08.92\00:38:11.19 of the principles found in the civil code 00:38:11.19\00:38:14.62 that we find in the Old Testament. 00:38:14.62\00:38:15.82 Not all of it applies today 00:38:15.82\00:38:17.53 because God was the direct King or Ruler of Israel, 00:38:17.53\00:38:20.66 it's a little different in our situation. 00:38:20.66\00:38:22.70 Then you have the health laws. 00:38:22.70\00:38:24.10 And of course the health laws would relate to being healthy 00:38:24.10\00:38:26.20 and practical. 00:38:26.20\00:38:27.27 And yes, you don't wanna eat those things 00:38:27.27\00:38:28.87 that are unclean, 00:38:28.87\00:38:30.11 and there's some practical aspects of that. 00:38:30.11\00:38:31.14 And so of course that's applicable today, 00:38:31.14\00:38:33.41 but then you have the ceremonial laws. 00:38:33.41\00:38:34.81 And the ceremonial law had to do with the priesthood, 00:38:34.81\00:38:36.95 it had to do with the sanctuary, 00:38:36.95\00:38:38.25 it had to do with the sacrifice, 00:38:38.25\00:38:39.95 but they were also connected with the ceremonial laws, 00:38:39.95\00:38:42.45 some additional customs that the people were to follow 00:38:42.45\00:38:45.09 here specifically. 00:38:45.09\00:38:46.49 One of the regulations not to wear clothes of mixed fabrics. 00:38:46.49\00:38:50.89 And the reason for that is because God wanted to make 00:38:50.89\00:38:53.33 a distinction between His people 00:38:53.33\00:38:55.33 and the pagan nations around them. 00:38:55.33\00:38:57.63 One of the things the pagan nations would do 00:38:57.63\00:38:59.40 is they would have mixed fabrics in their clothing. 00:38:59.40\00:39:02.67 They would shave their beards in a certain way 00:39:02.67\00:39:05.37 as a sign of worship for the dead. 00:39:05.37\00:39:07.98 There were many different customs that God said, 00:39:07.98\00:39:10.38 "No, don't have any part of it. 00:39:10.38\00:39:12.11 I'm gonna separate. 00:39:12.11\00:39:13.25 You're gonna be a different people." 00:39:13.25\00:39:14.88 Now we can take the principle of that 00:39:14.88\00:39:16.52 and we can apply that today. 00:39:16.52\00:39:17.85 Should Christians dress differently than the world? 00:39:17.85\00:39:21.19 I believe so. 00:39:21.19\00:39:21.99 Not that we should be fanatical, 00:39:21.99\00:39:23.83 but they should be a cleanliness, 00:39:23.83\00:39:26.03 there should be a modesty that is found with Christians 00:39:26.03\00:39:29.13 that is different from the world. 00:39:29.13\00:39:30.80 So you can apply a principle there, 00:39:30.80\00:39:32.60 but no, there is nothing wrong 00:39:32.60\00:39:34.40 in having a shirt made of cotton and polyester, 00:39:34.40\00:39:38.01 other than it's probably uncomfortable. 00:39:38.01\00:39:40.01 I don't know, 00:39:40.01\00:39:41.11 but it seems like everything nowadays 00:39:41.11\00:39:42.24 has got a little bit of polyester in it, 00:39:42.24\00:39:43.61 but no, you're not breaking any Biblical law by doing so. 00:39:43.61\00:39:48.52 Does that help, Christopher? 00:39:49.32\00:39:50.59 - [Christopher] Yeah, can I ask a quick question? 00:39:51.95\00:39:53.52 - Yeah, real quick. 00:39:53.52\00:39:54.52 - [Christopher] When you say about the mixed fabrics, 00:39:55.86\00:39:58.43 are you saying that we cannot mix plant with animal fabrics? 00:39:58.43\00:40:03.00 - No, no, you can. 00:40:03.00\00:40:04.07 I mean, today we gotta be practical. 00:40:04.07\00:40:06.43 Some fabrics do very well when you mix them. 00:40:06.43\00:40:09.50 You're talking about like wool and cotton? 00:40:09.50\00:40:11.67 - [Christopher] Well, I'm talking about like spandex. 00:40:13.48\00:40:15.11 Can we wear spandex with cotton and polyester. 00:40:15.11\00:40:17.31 - Oh yeah, yeah. 00:40:17.31\00:40:18.75 I think the principle here is 00:40:18.75\00:40:20.05 there needs to be a distinction 00:40:20.05\00:40:21.15 between the dress of the Christian 00:40:21.15\00:40:23.25 and the dress of the world. 00:40:23.25\00:40:24.82 And that was the point that was being emphasized 00:40:24.82\00:40:26.82 by these ceremonial laws of the Old Testament. 00:40:26.82\00:40:29.72 Christ or God wanted the Israelites to look differently 00:40:29.72\00:40:32.59 and to dress differently than the pagan nations around them. 00:40:32.59\00:40:36.33 And so that's why we have these principles, 00:40:36.33\00:40:38.47 practical principles that were applied. 00:40:38.47\00:40:40.04 But today, no, there's nothing wrong 00:40:40.04\00:40:41.47 in wearing clothes of mixed fabric, 00:40:41.47\00:40:43.87 but we do wanna follow the principle of modesty. 00:40:43.87\00:40:46.24 - [Christopher] Okay, okay. 00:40:47.54\00:40:48.51 I appreciate it, thank you. 00:40:48.51\00:40:49.48 - All right, you're welcome, 00:40:49.48\00:40:50.65 thanks, Christopher. - All right. 00:40:50.65\00:40:51.88 Next we have Sherry from Wisconsin. 00:40:51.88\00:40:52.98 Good evening, Sherry. 00:40:52.98\00:40:54.02 You are on the air. 00:40:54.02\00:40:55.48 - [Sherry] Hi, pastors. 00:40:57.12\00:40:58.32 My question is in Job 3 about Leviathan. 00:40:59.49\00:41:04.29 - Yes. 00:41:06.36\00:41:07.23 - [Sherry] And I'm wondering if that creature is related 00:41:08.63\00:41:13.07 to the creatures in Revelations or was there, 00:41:15.27\00:41:20.34 it's my understanding that Job 00:41:22.04\00:41:23.65 was one of the first books written. 00:41:23.65\00:41:25.55 - Yes. 00:41:25.55\00:41:26.65 - [Sherry] And if that's true, 00:41:26.65\00:41:29.15 was there a world before us 00:41:29.15\00:41:33.32 that threw the creature in the bottomless pit? 00:41:34.42\00:41:38.33 - Okay, yeah, let me see if I can give you 00:41:38.33\00:41:39.96 a little more information. 00:41:39.96\00:41:41.00 When you're reading the book of Job, 00:41:41.00\00:41:42.80 you read about several creatures, the one being 00:41:42.80\00:41:45.47 Leviathan and the other one called behemoth. 00:41:45.47\00:41:47.50 These are two animals 00:41:47.50\00:41:48.80 that we don't have an exact likeness today. 00:41:48.80\00:41:52.84 If you look at the characteristics, 00:41:52.84\00:41:54.41 for example of the behemoth, 00:41:54.41\00:41:56.01 it really looks like some kind of a dinosaur. 00:41:56.01\00:41:59.01 He's got big round legs 00:41:59.01\00:42:00.68 that look like the legs of an elephant, 00:42:00.68\00:42:02.32 but he has a big thick tail 00:42:02.32\00:42:04.65 and he's got a long, strong neck and he lives by the reeds. 00:42:04.65\00:42:08.76 So what Job he's referring to is animals 00:42:08.76\00:42:11.56 that existed before the flood. 00:42:11.56\00:42:13.60 Many of these animals were destroyed in the flood. 00:42:13.60\00:42:15.80 And of course we had the fossil record to back that up. 00:42:15.80\00:42:18.47 And Leviathan for the most part could have been 00:42:18.47\00:42:20.84 some kind of a seagoing dinosaur 00:42:20.84\00:42:24.04 that existed before the flood. 00:42:24.04\00:42:25.74 We just got the fossil remains of that. 00:42:25.74\00:42:28.51 Job, being an old book, 00:42:28.51\00:42:29.88 it's possible that there were still stories around 00:42:29.88\00:42:32.25 of these great monsters or sea creatures, 00:42:32.25\00:42:35.32 maybe even at the time some survived the flood. 00:42:35.32\00:42:38.35 And they were around, of course today they would be extinct. 00:42:38.35\00:42:40.89 So no they were real animals. 00:42:40.89\00:42:42.26 Although in the book of Revelation, 00:42:42.26\00:42:44.33 you also read about different creatures and beasts, 00:42:44.33\00:42:47.30 but those are symbolic. 00:42:47.30\00:42:49.70 For example, it talks about one beast 00:42:49.70\00:42:51.37 that has seven heads and 10 horns. 00:42:51.37\00:42:54.54 Well, there's no animal today that has seven heads 00:42:54.54\00:42:56.64 and 10 horns. 00:42:56.64\00:42:57.61 So that's clearly symbolic, 00:42:57.61\00:42:58.77 but what's described here in Job, 00:42:58.77\00:43:00.81 it sounds like a real animal that existed. 00:43:00.81\00:43:03.88 And if you go back to the fossil record before the flood, 00:43:03.88\00:43:06.82 yeah, there were these giant animals 00:43:06.82\00:43:08.72 that lived on the earth and in the sea. 00:43:08.72\00:43:11.59 - [Sherry] Job asked God 00:43:12.89\00:43:14.66 about being prepared to rise against leviathan 00:43:18.59\00:43:22.60 - Yeah, in other words, who can go up against Leviathan? 00:43:22.60\00:43:25.33 I mean, he was a great powerful sea-like creature 00:43:25.33\00:43:28.54 and who can try and take it on. 00:43:28.54\00:43:31.04 Now, it is interesting that a dragon in the Bible 00:43:31.04\00:43:34.58 symbolizes the devil. 00:43:34.58\00:43:36.38 Leviathan was a giant reptile of some kind. 00:43:36.38\00:43:39.95 Maybe it was a symbol for the devil, 00:43:39.95\00:43:41.92 but in the context of Job, it was a real animal. 00:43:41.92\00:43:45.12 'cause he goes on not only talk about behemoth 00:43:45.12\00:43:47.19 and not only talk about leviathan, 00:43:47.19\00:43:48.56 but to talk about other animals 00:43:48.56\00:43:49.82 that are very common even today. 00:43:49.82\00:43:51.96 So it's a description of some of these creatures 00:43:51.96\00:43:53.93 that God made that lived before the flood. 00:43:53.93\00:43:57.00 And I think that's the point that's been emphasized there. 00:43:57.00\00:44:00.20 So thanks for your question. 00:44:00.20\00:44:02.20 - All right, next we have Becky from Texas. 00:44:02.20\00:44:04.04 Good evening, Becky, you're on the air. 00:44:04.04\00:44:06.04 - [Becky] Yes, hello, how are you doing? 00:44:08.01\00:44:09.74 - Hi, Becky. - We're blessed. 00:44:09.74\00:44:11.98 - [Becky] Yeah, my question is concerning 00:44:11.98\00:44:14.88 when there has been a gender change surgically 00:44:14.88\00:44:19.95 and you know the person as a male, 00:44:21.06\00:44:23.96 but then has become a female. 00:44:23.96\00:44:27.66 And-- 00:44:27.66\00:44:28.53 - Are you wondering 00:44:29.86\00:44:30.90 what would be the proper Christian approach 00:44:30.90\00:44:32.60 or response - [Becky] Right. 00:44:32.60\00:44:34.00 - To a person like that? 00:44:34.00\00:44:35.04 You know, it's kind of interesting 00:44:35.04\00:44:36.07 that we even have these discussions today. 00:44:36.07\00:44:38.27 I mean, 50, 60 years ago, you couldn't get, 00:44:38.27\00:44:41.34 oh, maybe you could, I don't know, 00:44:41.34\00:44:42.44 what surgeries to try and change your gender. 00:44:42.44\00:44:45.51 I think the bottom line is God loves everyone 00:44:45.51\00:44:49.18 and God can reach everyone, 00:44:49.18\00:44:51.25 and homosexuality, although it is a sin 00:44:51.25\00:44:54.82 that the Bible condemns, 00:44:54.82\00:44:56.62 it can be forgiven and a person can repent. 00:44:56.62\00:44:59.43 And I know of people who have lived their lifestyle, 00:44:59.43\00:45:02.40 but they come to know Christ 00:45:02.40\00:45:03.70 and they have confessed their sins 00:45:03.70\00:45:05.33 and they've changed their lifestyle. 00:45:05.33\00:45:07.67 I think we wanna build a relationship with a person 00:45:09.04\00:45:10.87 to try and win them over to Christ, 00:45:10.87\00:45:13.81 but there's a delicate balance between respecting them, 00:45:13.81\00:45:17.55 but not necessarily agreeing with those things 00:45:17.55\00:45:20.32 that they are doing that is wrong. 00:45:20.32\00:45:22.75 And it's not just this particular area of sin, but any 00:45:22.75\00:45:27.82 sin. I know people who wanna honor their parents, 00:45:28.89\00:45:31.23 but perhaps their parents are doing things that are wrong 00:45:31.23\00:45:34.93 or a violation of the Ten Commandments. 00:45:34.93\00:45:36.46 How do you walk that line between honoring your parents 00:45:36.46\00:45:39.70 and yet not participating or supporting or endorsing 00:45:39.70\00:45:43.27 the things that they're doing that you know is wrong? 00:45:43.27\00:45:45.27 And so that's where we need to pray for wisdom and guidance 00:45:45.27\00:45:47.98 on an individual basis. 00:45:47.98\00:45:49.34 We want to be Christ-like 00:45:49.34\00:45:51.01 in the way we interact with people. 00:45:51.01\00:45:53.05 Jesus ministered to them, 00:45:53.05\00:45:54.15 and I think we need to see in every person, 00:45:54.15\00:45:57.39 a soul that Christ died for. 00:45:57.39\00:45:59.82 In other words, we wanna reach every person 00:45:59.82\00:46:02.06 with the good news of salvation and try and encourage them. 00:46:02.06\00:46:04.66 So you've gotta pray for wisdom. 00:46:04.66\00:46:05.93 That that is a tough question, a difficult situation. 00:46:05.93\00:46:08.76 And each case is gonna be a little different, Pastor Carlos, 00:46:08.76\00:46:12.13 but I think that's where we need to pray 00:46:12.13\00:46:13.90 and ask God to guide us and help us. 00:46:13.90\00:46:15.60 - Amen. 00:46:15.60\00:46:16.67 Just loving them and letting the Holy Spirit 00:46:16.67\00:46:18.01 do the work in their heart. - Let the Holy Spirit do 00:46:18.01\00:46:18.67 what only He can do. 00:46:18.67\00:46:20.64 Well, thanks for your call, Becky. 00:46:20.64\00:46:21.61 Who do we have next? 00:46:21.61\00:46:22.68 - Abigail from Georgia. 00:46:22.68\00:46:24.78 Good evening and welcome to "Bible Answers Live." 00:46:24.78\00:46:27.28 - [Abigail] My question is if Elijah went to heaven, 00:46:29.02\00:46:34.09 like the heaven where God dwells, did he see God? 00:46:35.46\00:46:38.99 Even if the Bible says that no man saw God 00:46:38.99\00:46:41.93 or has seen Him. 00:46:41.93\00:46:43.06 - Okay, yes, Elijah was taken to heaven. 00:46:43.06\00:46:45.47 He was taken up to where God is 00:46:45.47\00:46:47.00 because you're reading the gospels 00:46:47.00\00:46:48.10 that Elijah and Moses appeared with Jesus 00:46:48.10\00:46:49.34 in the Mount of transfiguration. 00:46:49.34\00:46:51.94 So if Elijah and Moses were in heaven, 00:46:51.94\00:46:54.28 of course, Moses died, 00:46:54.28\00:46:55.41 he was resurrected according to Jude, 00:46:55.41\00:46:56.85 and he was taken to heaven. 00:46:56.85\00:46:58.71 If they're in heaven, I'm sure they they're able to see God. 00:46:58.71\00:47:01.72 The verse you're referring to is in John chapter three, 00:47:01.72\00:47:04.05 where Jesus says, "No, man has ascended up into heaven 00:47:04.05\00:47:06.65 and come back down except the Son of Man," 00:47:06.65\00:47:08.32 and He's speaking about Himself. 00:47:08.32\00:47:10.63 So what Christ is referencing there is that 00:47:10.63\00:47:13.36 He's the one that has brought the truth from heaven, 00:47:13.36\00:47:16.40 He's the one that has come to earth 00:47:16.40\00:47:17.77 to reveal what God is like in His fullness, in His glory. 00:47:17.77\00:47:22.54 - Excuse me, pastor. 00:47:24.57\00:47:25.84 I'm so sorry to interrupt, - yeah, go ahead. 00:47:25.84\00:47:27.21 - [Becky] But I'm talking about the one John 1:18. 00:47:27.21\00:47:30.65 - Which one? 00:47:30.65\00:47:32.28 - [Becky] John 1:18. 00:47:32.28\00:47:33.85 - John 1:18. 00:47:33.85\00:47:35.32 (group chattering) 00:47:35.32\00:47:36.99 Okay, let me read the verse just before, 00:47:36.99\00:47:39.65 talks about the law came through Moses, 00:47:39.65\00:47:41.62 but grace and truth came from Jesus Christ. 00:47:41.62\00:47:43.49 "No one has seen God at any time. 00:47:43.49\00:47:44.96 The only begotten of the father 00:47:44.96\00:47:46.36 who is in the bosom of the Father, 00:47:46.36\00:47:47.60 He has declared Him." 00:47:47.60\00:47:49.10 Again, that reference to seeing God. 00:47:49.10\00:47:50.90 It's not just seeing God, 00:47:50.90\00:47:53.60 but it's seeing to reveal God. 00:47:53.60\00:47:55.47 In other words, nobody has revealed God but the Son. 00:47:55.47\00:47:59.54 That's the spiritual application of that. 00:47:59.54\00:48:02.14 For example, the disciple said to Jesus, 00:48:02.14\00:48:04.21 "Show us the Father and it suffices us," 00:48:04.21\00:48:06.21 and Jesus says, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father." 00:48:06.21\00:48:10.42 So when it's saying no one has seen the Father, 00:48:10.42\00:48:13.39 it's not just visually, it's not just seeing Him, 00:48:13.39\00:48:16.73 but it's seeing and revealing, seeing to show the Father. 00:48:16.73\00:48:20.36 Only Christ can show us what the Father's really like. 00:48:20.36\00:48:24.03 - Oh, okay. 00:48:26.03\00:48:27.34 Thank you so much for answering my question, guys. 00:48:27.34\00:48:29.20 - All right, you're welcome. - All right. 00:48:29.20\00:48:30.04 - Thanks for calling. 00:48:30.04\00:48:31.14 - Next we have Milo from Rhode Island. 00:48:31.14\00:48:32.84 Milo, you are on the air. 00:48:32.84\00:48:34.24 - [Milo] Hey, how are you? 00:48:35.54\00:48:36.78 - Blessed, how are you? 00:48:36.78\00:48:37.98 Sorry. 00:48:40.38\00:48:41.45 - [Milo] Question in regards to companionship 00:48:41.45\00:48:43.72 for a young adult male. 00:48:43.72\00:48:47.82 I'm in my mid twenties, recently born again 00:48:47.82\00:48:51.76 and seeking for a companion in this world. 00:48:51.76\00:48:56.80 Just wanted to know whether God will provide one for me 00:48:58.20\00:49:01.07 or do I have to do the soul searching myself. 00:49:01.07\00:49:03.57 - Oh, okay, good question. 00:49:03.57\00:49:04.97 Of course, there's nothing wrong to seek a companion, 00:49:04.97\00:49:08.38 to seek a spouse. 00:49:08.38\00:49:09.74 Marriage is honorable, it was something that God gave, 00:49:09.74\00:49:13.28 but we do wanna be very wise and careful 00:49:13.28\00:49:15.95 in choosing a spouse. 00:49:15.95\00:49:17.35 And that's where we wanna pray and ask God to lead. 00:49:17.35\00:49:20.29 Marrying the wrong person can be, as many people know, 00:49:20.29\00:49:23.43 it can be a very difficult thing. 00:49:23.43\00:49:25.39 Marrying the right person, 00:49:25.39\00:49:26.73 someone who loves the Lord can actually enhance 00:49:26.73\00:49:28.53 your spiritual growth with Christ 00:49:28.53\00:49:30.03 and draw you closer to Him. 00:49:30.03\00:49:31.73 So what part do we have to play? 00:49:31.73\00:49:33.44 I think we wanna pray for guidance and wisdom, 00:49:33.44\00:49:35.30 but there's nothing wrong in getting to know people 00:49:35.30\00:49:37.71 or befriending people. 00:49:37.71\00:49:39.04 Some of the guidelines that the Bible does speak of, 00:49:39.04\00:49:41.01 it says don't be unequally yolked. 00:49:41.01\00:49:43.48 So don't go out looking for somebody 00:49:43.48\00:49:44.98 that doesn't believe in Christ, or is not a Christian, 00:49:44.98\00:49:47.02 or who doesn't hold your religious beliefs, 00:49:47.02\00:49:49.02 or doesn't understand the Bible 00:49:49.02\00:49:50.49 in the way that you understand it, 00:49:50.49\00:49:52.12 because you're creating problems for yourself. 00:49:52.12\00:49:54.19 So find a good Christian person, 00:49:54.19\00:49:56.32 somebody that loves the Lord, 00:49:56.32\00:49:57.86 somebody that shares your ideals 00:49:57.86\00:50:00.40 and there's nothing wrong, Pastor Carlos. 00:50:00.40\00:50:02.40 I know have some folks who are happily married, 00:50:02.40\00:50:04.50 wonderful Christians 00:50:04.50\00:50:05.60 and they found each other on a Christian, 00:50:05.60\00:50:08.67 - Dating site. - Yeah, single site. 00:50:08.67\00:50:10.31 So nothing wrong with that. 00:50:10.31\00:50:11.34 God can work through that as well, 00:50:11.34\00:50:12.71 but you do wanna pray and ask God for guidance and wisdom 00:50:12.71\00:50:16.61 and then just lay it all before the Lord and say, 00:50:16.61\00:50:18.15 "Lord, is this the one that you want me to marry?" 00:50:18.15\00:50:20.68 And the Holy Spirit will lead. 00:50:20.68\00:50:22.25 God will convict us if our hearts are sincere 00:50:22.25\00:50:24.15 and we want to do His will. 00:50:24.15\00:50:25.72 All right, I think we have time for one or two more, 00:50:25.72\00:50:27.46 Pastor Carlos. 00:50:27.46\00:50:28.26 - All right, let's go quickly. 00:50:28.26\00:50:29.06 Jerry, from Paradise, Michigan. 00:50:29.06\00:50:30.93 Good evening, you're on the air. 00:50:30.93\00:50:33.06 - [Jerry] Yes, hi. 00:50:33.06\00:50:34.40 Can you hear me okay, 'cause I'm calling from off grid? 00:50:34.40\00:50:36.30 - Yeah, no, we can hear you. 00:50:36.30\00:50:38.10 - [Jerry] I've heard all my life the saying 00:50:38.10\00:50:39.60 that God helps those who help themselves, 00:50:39.60\00:50:43.27 but I've heard recently that it's not scriptural 00:50:43.27\00:50:46.04 and that it's more truthful 00:50:46.04\00:50:47.61 to say God helps those who cannot help themselves. 00:50:47.61\00:50:50.05 Can you shed any light on the truth of either of these 00:50:50.05\00:50:52.45 or are they in supposition? - Sure. 00:50:52.45\00:50:54.22 Yeah, absolutely. 00:50:54.22\00:50:55.75 The thought God helps those who help themselves 00:50:55.75\00:50:58.15 is not found in the Bible. 00:50:58.15\00:50:59.72 I think that was Benjamin Franklin if I'm not wrong 00:50:59.72\00:51:02.02 or one of those famous writers that mentioned that. 00:51:02.02\00:51:06.06 But you know, the principle we find in the Bible 00:51:06.06\00:51:08.30 is that God helps those who recognize their need of help. 00:51:08.30\00:51:12.27 He doesn't just help those who can't help themselves, 00:51:13.67\00:51:15.20 He helps those who recognize their need of help 00:51:15.20\00:51:17.54 and they turn to Him for help, that's the key. 00:51:17.54\00:51:21.21 So in one sense, yeah, you do need to help yourself 00:51:21.21\00:51:23.88 in that you need to turn to God. 00:51:23.88\00:51:25.35 Those who don't turn to God, 00:51:25.35\00:51:26.75 they don't receive the help that God wants to give them. 00:51:26.75\00:51:29.18 But at the end of the day, 00:51:29.18\00:51:30.29 if we turn to God and we trust in Him 00:51:30.29\00:51:31.55 and we ask Him for help, especially in spiritual things, 00:51:31.55\00:51:34.69 He will help us without a doubt, He will help us. 00:51:34.69\00:51:37.63 So hope that helps a little bit, Jerry, yeah? 00:51:37.63\00:51:40.43 God will help those who recognize their need 00:51:40.43\00:51:42.96 and turn to Him for help, that's the condition. 00:51:42.96\00:51:45.47 I think we have time for one more. 00:51:45.47\00:51:46.77 - One more. 00:51:46.77\00:51:48.00 Marlin, Good evening, you're on the air. 00:51:48.00\00:51:49.54 - [Marlin] Hello. 00:51:50.67\00:51:51.47 Thank you for taking my call, Pastor Carlos, Pastor Ross. 00:51:52.94\00:51:55.61 My question was that I heard 00:51:57.01\00:51:59.71 in one of pastor Doug Batchelor's sermons 00:51:59.71\00:52:04.19 to the children from a few years back, 00:52:04.19\00:52:07.02 that there is a varying amount of time 00:52:07.02\00:52:10.49 for your duration in hell based on like what your sins were. 00:52:11.83\00:52:16.50 It all results in death. 00:52:19.03\00:52:20.37 But the amount of time that you spend there changes 00:52:20.37\00:52:23.27 depending on your sins. 00:52:23.27\00:52:24.37 And I was wondering where that came from. 00:52:24.37\00:52:27.01 - Okay, yes. 00:52:27.01\00:52:27.81 Let me share a few thoughts. 00:52:27.81\00:52:29.11 Of course, the end result of all sin is death 00:52:29.11\00:52:31.71 and that is eternal death, 00:52:31.71\00:52:33.08 but God does reward both the righteous and the unrighteous 00:52:33.08\00:52:36.72 according to their deeds. 00:52:36.72\00:52:38.19 There are varying rewards. 00:52:38.19\00:52:39.92 You find in Luke 12:48, 00:52:39.92\00:52:42.69 it says, "Those who have committed things 00:52:42.69\00:52:44.49 deserving stripes and did not know 00:52:44.49\00:52:46.96 they were given few stripes, 00:52:46.96\00:52:48.36 but those who knew better," and I'm paraphrasing 00:52:48.36\00:52:50.70 'cause of time, "they were given more." 00:52:50.70\00:52:52.87 So God is fair and just 00:52:52.87\00:52:55.40 even in the punishment of the wicked, 00:52:55.40\00:52:57.24 but He's also gonna reward people on the other side, 00:52:57.24\00:53:00.68 on the good side, 00:53:00.68\00:53:01.98 based upon their service, and their devotion, 00:53:01.98\00:53:03.95 and their love for Him. 00:53:03.95\00:53:05.25 Everyone gets eternal life, 00:53:05.25\00:53:06.55 but there are still varying degrees of reward 00:53:06.55\00:53:08.95 that we read about in Revelation chapter 22. 00:53:08.95\00:53:11.12 So Luke 12:48 and Revelation 22. 00:53:11.12\00:53:13.92 Friends, don't go away. 00:53:13.92\00:53:14.82 We'll be right back. 00:53:14.82\00:53:16.39 (bright music) 00:53:16.39\00:53:19.03 - [Announcer] Thank you for listening to today's broadcast. 00:53:19.03\00:53:21.50 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:53:21.50\00:53:25.13 "Bible Answers Live" is produced 00:53:25.13\00:53:27.07 by Amazing Facts International, 00:53:27.07\00:53:29.30 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:53:29.30\00:53:33.54 - Hello, friends, welcome back to one of our best parts 00:53:35.28\00:53:37.78 of "Bible Answers Live." 00:53:37.78\00:53:39.08 We're gonna try and answers many of your questions 00:53:39.08\00:53:41.15 that have come in via email. 00:53:41.15\00:53:42.78 So Pastor Carlos, - Yes. 00:53:42.78\00:53:44.49 - How many questions do we have this evening? 00:53:44.49\00:53:45.82 Let's go for it, what's the first one. 00:53:45.82\00:53:46.89 - We have about five questions here. 00:53:46.89\00:53:48.82 This is Connie. 00:53:48.82\00:53:50.16 She's asking my nephew says the Bible is fictional. 00:53:50.16\00:53:52.26 How do you know there is a God? 00:53:52.26\00:53:54.13 - How do you know that there's a God? 00:53:54.13\00:53:55.23 Well, first of all, you gotta read the Bible. 00:53:55.23\00:53:56.67 The Bible reveals to us that there is a God. 00:53:56.67\00:53:59.10 How do you know the Bible is true? 00:53:59.10\00:54:00.37 Well, the Bible reveals prophecy, 00:54:00.37\00:54:03.04 prophecy reveals the future. 00:54:03.04\00:54:04.67 And if you look back in the Bible 00:54:04.67\00:54:05.91 and you can see how accurately 00:54:05.91\00:54:07.64 the Bible predicted things that took place, 00:54:07.64\00:54:10.18 that'll strengthen your faith in the Word of God. 00:54:10.18\00:54:12.95 And when you trust the Word of God, 00:54:12.95\00:54:14.78 it'll lead you to the God of the Word, 00:54:14.78\00:54:17.49 which is God, the Savior Jesus Christ. 00:54:17.49\00:54:19.95 - All right, next, we have a question from, 00:54:19.95\00:54:22.52 let me see if I do this correctly, Nnozi. 00:54:22.52\00:54:24.96 - Okay, very good. - Did I do that right? 00:54:24.96\00:54:26.43 - I think so. 00:54:26.43\00:54:28.00 - Why didn't God forgive satan 00:54:28.00\00:54:29.73 and what sin can we partake in today 00:54:29.73\00:54:31.80 that God cannot forgive? 00:54:31.80\00:54:33.17 - Okay why didn't God forgive satan, 00:54:33.17\00:54:34.70 and is there a sin that we can commit 00:54:34.70\00:54:36.17 that God cannot forgive? 00:54:36.17\00:54:37.54 Well, satan committed that sin that God cannot forgive, 00:54:37.54\00:54:40.98 and the Bible refers to that as the unpardonable sin. 00:54:40.98\00:54:43.38 It is the sin against the Holy Spirit. 00:54:43.38\00:54:45.51 It's when a person hardens their heart 00:54:45.51\00:54:47.58 to the point where they don't even hear 00:54:47.58\00:54:49.22 the promptings of the Holy Spirit, 00:54:49.22\00:54:51.29 their conscience in essence has been deadened. 00:54:51.29\00:54:54.52 The Bible tells us it's the goodness of God 00:54:54.52\00:54:56.32 that leads a person to repentance. 00:54:56.32\00:54:58.16 So if we've rejected the Spirit of God 00:54:58.16\00:55:00.43 that leads us to repentance, 00:55:00.43\00:55:01.53 how do we come to a point of repentance? 00:55:01.53\00:55:03.83 And if we don't repent, how can we be forgiven? 00:55:03.83\00:55:06.97 So yes, there is a sin for which there is no forgiveness 00:55:06.97\00:55:10.57 and that is the sin of rejection against the Holy Spirit 00:55:10.57\00:55:13.74 or the unpardonable sin. 00:55:13.74\00:55:14.88 satan has committed that sin. 00:55:14.88\00:55:16.61 - Next is from Jesami. 00:55:16.61\00:55:18.78 In the book of Job it talks about the sons of God 00:55:18.78\00:55:21.12 gathering before God as well as satan. 00:55:21.12\00:55:22.85 Who are the sons of God? 00:55:22.85\00:55:23.89 - Okay, short answer on this one, 00:55:23.89\00:55:25.49 the sons of God are the representatives 00:55:25.49\00:55:27.52 of the unfallen worlds. 00:55:27.52\00:55:30.26 Psalms talks about the elders as a group of people 00:55:30.26\00:55:33.43 that are there in heaven. 00:55:33.43\00:55:34.66 How do we know that they're the representatives 00:55:34.66\00:55:36.06 of the unfallen worlds? 00:55:36.06\00:55:37.43 Because you're reading Job that the devil shows up 00:55:37.43\00:55:39.57 and God says, "Where did you come from?" 00:55:39.57\00:55:41.17 And he says, "Oh, from walking up and down on the earth." 00:55:41.17\00:55:43.44 So we know this gathering was not on the earth, 00:55:43.44\00:55:45.71 it was some other place, probably in heaven. 00:55:45.71\00:55:47.88 And the devil came representing the earth and saying, 00:55:47.88\00:55:50.68 "Well, you know, that's my domain now, 00:55:50.68\00:55:52.15 that's my kingdom." 00:55:52.15\00:55:53.52 And God says, "Well, if you notice there's someone 00:55:53.52\00:55:54.82 in your kingdom that really belongs in My kingdom" 00:55:54.82\00:55:56.89 and you have the whole story of Job. 00:55:56.89\00:55:58.59 But we believe these sons of God are these representatives 00:55:58.59\00:56:01.89 of these different realms, 00:56:01.89\00:56:03.22 these worlds that you read about in Hebrews chapter one. 00:56:03.22\00:56:06.23 - All right, last one quickly, 00:56:06.23\00:56:07.60 what did Christ mean when He said we must be born again? 00:56:07.60\00:56:10.00 - To be born again we have to accept Jesus 00:56:10.00\00:56:11.77 as our personal savior, we confess our sins, 00:56:11.77\00:56:13.90 we ask for the Holy Spirit to do a work in us 00:56:13.90\00:56:16.40 that only He can do. 00:56:16.40\00:56:18.31 And just as surely as we do that, 00:56:18.31\00:56:19.61 God is faithful, He'll forgive us and He'll cleanse us. 00:56:19.61\00:56:22.14 Friends, thank you for joining us for "Bible Answers Live," 00:56:22.14\00:56:24.95 look forward to seeing you next week. 00:56:24.95\00:56:27.62 (bright music) 00:56:27.62\00:56:28.65 - [Announcer] "Bible Answers Live," 00:56:28.65\00:56:30.52 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:56:30.52\00:56:34.19 (bright music) 00:56:34.19\00:56:36.86 - Did you know that Noah was present 00:56:37.93\00:56:39.26 at the birth of Abraham? 00:56:39.26\00:56:40.86 Okay, maybe he wasn't in the room, 00:56:40.86\00:56:43.23 but he was alive and probably telling stories 00:56:43.23\00:56:45.80 about his floating zoo. 00:56:45.80\00:56:47.74 From the creation of the world 00:56:47.74\00:56:49.30 to the last day events of Revelation, 00:56:49.30\00:56:51.57 biblehistory.com is a free resource 00:56:51.57\00:56:54.08 where you can explore major Bible events and characters, 00:56:54.08\00:56:57.11 enhance your knowledge of the Bible, 00:56:57.11\00:56:59.01 and draw closer to God's Word, go deeper. 00:56:59.01\00:57:02.42 Visit biblehistory.com. 00:57:02.42\00:57:06.35 - [Announcer 2] Did you know Amazing Facts 00:57:06.35\00:57:08.22 has a free Bible school 00:57:08.22\00:57:09.59 that you can do from the comfort of your own home?
