(upbeat music) 00:00:00.80\00:00:03.23 - [Commentator] It is the best-selling book in history. 00:00:03.23\00:00:05.80 No volume ever written has been more loved and quoted, 00:00:05.80\00:00:09.97 and its words sometimes simple and sometimes mysterious, 00:00:09.97\00:00:13.88 should always be studied carefully. 00:00:13.88\00:00:16.71 It is the Bible, the Word of God. 00:00:16.71\00:00:20.08 Welcome to Bible Answers Live. 00:00:20.08\00:00:22.85 Providing accurate and practical answers 00:00:22.85\00:00:25.35 to all your Bible questions. 00:00:25.35\00:00:27.76 This broadcast is a previously recorded episode. 00:00:28.79\00:00:31.53 To receive any of the Bible resources 00:00:31.53\00:00:33.80 mentioned in this broadcast, call 800-835-6747. 00:00:33.80\00:00:38.73 Once again, that's 800-835-6747. 00:00:39.63\00:00:44.37 Now here's your host from Amazing Facts International, 00:00:45.84\00:00:48.51 Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:00:48.51\00:00:50.31 - Hello friends. 00:00:50.31\00:00:51.55 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:00:51.55\00:00:54.12 The Welwitschia is one of the strangest plants 00:00:54.12\00:00:57.09 in all of the world. 00:00:57.09\00:00:58.45 Firstly, because they're unusually ugly, 00:00:58.45\00:01:00.79 of course, that might be a matter of opinion. 00:01:00.79\00:01:02.62 They got two large strap like leaves that continuously grow 00:01:02.62\00:01:06.06 from a short woody unbranched stem along the ground. 00:01:06.06\00:01:09.96 Over time the ends of the leaves die 00:01:09.96\00:01:12.63 and dry forming a twisted and frayed bundle 00:01:12.63\00:01:15.10 at the base of the plant, like a big rat's nest. 00:01:15.10\00:01:17.97 They're also interesting because they live a very long time. 00:01:17.97\00:01:21.64 Carbon-14 dating of the largest plants have shown 00:01:21.64\00:01:24.55 that several individuals are at least 1,500 years old. 00:01:24.55\00:01:29.15 Some are believed to be as much as 2,000 years old 00:01:29.15\00:01:32.62 making them the oldest plants in the world. 00:01:32.62\00:01:35.52 Even though they've got a shallow taproot, 00:01:35.52\00:01:37.63 these incredible plants survive 00:01:37.63\00:01:39.76 and thrive in the deserts of Namibia 00:01:39.76\00:01:42.50 where temperatures can easily reach 130 degrees. 00:01:42.50\00:01:46.77 How do they do it? 00:01:46.77\00:01:48.04 During the night and morning, 00:01:48.04\00:01:49.30 they absorb any moisture in the air. 00:01:49.30\00:01:52.44 That's a good lesson for all of us to make the most 00:01:52.44\00:01:54.81 of what little we have (laughs) to get through fiery trials. 00:01:54.81\00:01:57.81 - Absolutely, I mean, when you look at the pictures, 00:01:57.81\00:01:59.78 you don't think, well, it's not much to look at, 00:01:59.78\00:02:01.15 but it's a fascinating plant. 00:02:01.15\00:02:02.88 For one, it lives a very long time, more than 1,500, 00:02:02.88\00:02:06.25 almost 2,000 years. 00:02:06.25\00:02:08.09 Of course, redwood trees are known 00:02:08.09\00:02:10.03 to also live for a very long time, but here is a- 00:02:10.03\00:02:12.26 - A plant. - Almost just like a bush. 00:02:12.26\00:02:14.10 Yeah, like a plant. 00:02:14.10\00:02:15.56 Something else interesting about the plant I was looking at, 00:02:15.56\00:02:17.73 it releases a red pigment when it's very hot in its leaves 00:02:17.73\00:02:21.97 and the leaves actually turn reddish, 00:02:21.97\00:02:23.84 which helps to reflect the radiation of the sun. 00:02:23.84\00:02:26.71 And when it's cooler in the desert areas, 00:02:26.71\00:02:29.64 then it releases more chlorophyl 00:02:29.64\00:02:31.58 and the leaves turn very bright or deep green, 00:02:31.58\00:02:34.72 which helps to absorb energy, so- 00:02:34.72\00:02:37.25 - And I'm guessing that they must taste awful 00:02:37.25\00:02:39.39 or some camel would've eaten them for 1,500 years- 00:02:39.39\00:02:41.86 - (mumbles) some animal animal would eat it, but- 00:02:41.86\00:02:43.09 - It must smell or taste terrible. 00:02:43.09\00:02:44.66 - (mumbles) leave them alone. 00:02:44.66\00:02:45.66 (laughs) 00:02:45.66\00:02:46.76 So here we have a plant 00:02:46.76\00:02:48.03 that's able to endure incredible hardships. 00:02:48.03\00:02:50.00 It patiently waits until the moisture comes 00:02:50.00\00:02:52.80 and it's able to just thrive 00:02:52.80\00:02:54.64 under these very difficult conditions. 00:02:54.64\00:02:56.14 It reminds me of some Christians who are able to thrive 00:02:56.14\00:02:59.51 even though they're going through some difficult trials. 00:02:59.51\00:03:01.21 - Yeah, when I lived up in the mountains, 00:03:01.21\00:03:03.21 I lived in the Desert Mountains for several years, 00:03:03.21\00:03:05.98 and, well, about a year and a half, 00:03:05.98\00:03:07.85 and they have barrel cactus up there. 00:03:07.85\00:03:10.19 And during the dry season, they shrivel and they get skinny, 00:03:10.19\00:03:12.89 they got pleats in them. 00:03:12.89\00:03:14.76 And then if you have a rain in the desert, 00:03:14.76\00:03:16.59 a day or two or a few hours of rain, you'll see them, 00:03:16.59\00:03:19.13 they soak up every drop of water, 00:03:19.13\00:03:20.56 and they literally, they swell up, 00:03:20.56\00:03:22.56 and they slowly then use that water to survive. 00:03:22.56\00:03:26.90 So that's what a Christian needs to do as long as we can, 00:03:26.90\00:03:29.70 we need to soak up the living water, the Word of God, 00:03:29.70\00:03:33.31 and store our minds with truth 00:03:33.31\00:03:36.08 to get us through the times of trouble. 00:03:36.08\00:03:38.38 The reason that Noah survived the flood 00:03:38.38\00:03:40.65 is because he stored it with food and resources, 00:03:40.65\00:03:43.65 he couldn't drink the salt water to get him 00:03:43.65\00:03:46.39 and the other animals through that storm. 00:03:46.39\00:03:48.86 And, friends, now is the time for us to be storing up 00:03:48.86\00:03:51.83 the truth of God's Word and the living water of God's Spirit 00:03:51.83\00:03:55.70 to get us through the fiery trials that come. 00:03:55.70\00:03:59.13 There's a verse in the Bible, Pastor Ross, 00:03:59.13\00:04:00.54 it's in 1 Peter 4:12-13. 00:04:00.54\00:04:04.17 "Beloved, do not think it strange 00:04:04.17\00:04:06.31 concerning the fiery trial that is to try you, 00:04:06.31\00:04:09.21 as though some strange thing has happened to you, 00:04:09.21\00:04:11.61 but rejoice to the extent 00:04:11.61\00:04:13.38 that you partake of Christ's sufferings, 00:04:13.38\00:04:15.55 that when His glory is revealed, 00:04:15.55\00:04:17.45 you may also be glad with exceeding joy." 00:04:17.45\00:04:20.56 God promises He can get us through those fiery trials, 00:04:20.56\00:04:23.09 and those trials actually shape and prepare us. 00:04:23.09\00:04:25.59 - Mm-hmm, absolutely. 00:04:25.59\00:04:26.80 We have a book that gives encouragement, 00:04:26.80\00:04:29.10 some biblical principles 00:04:29.10\00:04:30.27 of how we can endure trials and difficulties. 00:04:30.27\00:04:32.17 The Bible tells us everyone who chooses 00:04:32.17\00:04:33.97 to live a godly life- - Hmm. 00:04:33.97\00:04:35.54 - Will experience difficulties and trials. 00:04:35.54\00:04:37.91 So how we're to react when these things happen? 00:04:37.91\00:04:40.64 The book is called, "When The Brook Dries Up", 00:04:40.64\00:04:43.14 that's "Why Do Christians Suffer?" 00:04:43.14\00:04:44.75 And I think it'll be an encouragement for anyone 00:04:44.75\00:04:47.22 going through some difficulties. 00:04:47.22\00:04:49.18 Just call and ask, 00:04:49.18\00:04:50.42 we'll be happy to send this to anyone for free. 00:04:50.42\00:04:51.95 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:04:51.95\00:04:55.62 And again, just ask for the book, it's called, 00:04:55.62\00:04:57.69 "When The Brook Dried Up." 00:04:57.69\00:04:59.63 And I think it's referring to the story there, 00:04:59.63\00:05:01.26 Pastor Doug, of Elijah when he was riding... 00:05:01.26\00:05:04.10 Or during the three and a half year drought in Israel 00:05:04.10\00:05:07.00 when God provided water and food at the brook, 00:05:07.00\00:05:10.17 but then the brook dried up. - Yeah. 00:05:10.17\00:05:12.37 - And yet God had another plan for where he was to go. 00:05:12.37\00:05:14.58 - Yeah, He always, if that happens, 00:05:14.58\00:05:17.31 He will supply another way, and He did. 00:05:17.31\00:05:19.28 - Absolutely. 00:05:19.28\00:05:20.35 Again, we wanna welcome those 00:05:20.35\00:05:21.55 who are joining us on the various outlets, 00:05:21.55\00:05:22.95 those joining us on Amazing Facts TV, we are live, 00:05:22.95\00:05:25.99 and we are welcoming your questions. 00:05:25.99\00:05:28.16 Also those listening on radio, 00:05:28.16\00:05:29.59 both in various local stations and on satellite radio, 00:05:29.59\00:05:33.26 on Facebook, Pastor Doug Batchelor Facebook page 00:05:33.26\00:05:35.93 as well as the Amazing Facts Facebook page. 00:05:35.93\00:05:38.53 So, again, welcome, 00:05:38.53\00:05:39.77 thank you for being a part of the program. 00:05:39.77\00:05:41.00 If you have a- - (mumbles) a Doug Batchelor 00:05:41.00\00:05:42.17 now a YouTube page too. 00:05:42.17\00:05:43.41 - Oh, and the YouTube page. - That's right. 00:05:43.41\00:05:44.44 Yeah. - We're also on YouTube. 00:05:44.44\00:05:45.74 If you have a Bible related question, 00:05:45.74\00:05:47.64 the phone lines are now open, 00:05:47.64\00:05:49.28 so this is a good time to pick up your phone 00:05:49.28\00:05:50.95 and give us a call, the number is 800-463-7297. 00:05:50.95\00:05:56.15 Again, the number is 800-463-7297 00:05:57.02\00:05:59.85 with your Bible question. 00:06:01.36\00:06:02.79 If you don't get through right away, stay on the phone, 00:06:02.79\00:06:04.93 and one of our phone operators 00:06:04.93\00:06:06.53 will answer the call as soon as they can. 00:06:06.53\00:06:09.40 Well, Pastor Doug, before we go to the phone lines, 00:06:09.40\00:06:11.53 we always like to start with a word of prayer, 00:06:11.53\00:06:13.03 so let's do that. 00:06:13.03\00:06:14.47 Dear Father, once again, thank You for this opportunity 00:06:14.47\00:06:16.37 that we have to be able to open up Your Word 00:06:16.37\00:06:18.31 and study together. 00:06:18.31\00:06:19.91 And, Lord, it's Your Book, 00:06:19.91\00:06:21.28 so we ask for the Holy Spirit to come and guide us, 00:06:21.28\00:06:23.31 lead us all into a clear and a full understanding 00:06:23.31\00:06:25.65 of Bible truth found in the Scriptures. 00:06:25.65\00:06:28.45 Be with those who are listening wherever they might be, 00:06:28.45\00:06:30.72 and we ask this in Jesus' name. 00:06:30.72\00:06:32.29 Amen. - Amen. 00:06:32.29\00:06:34.36 - We're gonna go to our first caller this evening, 00:06:34.36\00:06:36.16 we have Risen in Los Angeles, California. 00:06:36.16\00:06:39.59 Risen, welcome to the program. 00:06:39.59\00:06:41.23 - [Risen] Hi, (mumbles) praise Jesus. 00:06:42.03\00:06:44.40 Thank you, Pastor Doug. - Yes. 00:06:44.40\00:06:45.63 - [Risen] Thank you, Pastor Ross. 00:06:45.63\00:06:47.57 It's been a year or so since I spoke with you, 00:06:48.50\00:06:52.54 but I don't wanna go around the bush, 00:06:52.54\00:06:55.41 I wanna go direct to my question 00:06:55.41\00:06:56.91 because I know you have a lot of people 00:06:56.91\00:07:00.28 who want to ask questions. - Sure. 00:07:00.28\00:07:03.05 - [Risen] I have a question about jewelry. 00:07:03.05\00:07:07.22 - Mm-hmm. 00:07:07.22\00:07:08.49 - [Risen] I heard your message about jewelry, 00:07:08.49\00:07:11.36 and you said that jewelry cause people to have pride. 00:07:11.36\00:07:16.40 I wore jewelry, Pastor Doug, in... 00:07:17.27\00:07:20.97 - Did we lose you? 00:07:47.66\00:07:51.73 Yeah, do you want me to give you the Bible reasons 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.74 for what I said? - Sir, 00:07:54.74\00:07:56.14 I'm not done with my question yet, 00:07:57.77\00:07:59.54 if you can finish me up. - Okay. 00:07:59.54\00:08:02.21 - [Risen] In the Bible, there are references about jewelry, 00:08:04.35\00:08:07.68 like the prodigal son, 00:08:07.68\00:08:09.62 the father gave his son a ring when he came back to him. 00:08:09.62\00:08:14.19 - Mm-hmm. - And also in Psalms, 00:08:14.19\00:08:16.96 with David, it's full of jewelry there too. 00:08:19.16\00:08:22.93 So I don't know what's wrong with jewelry 00:08:23.83\00:08:26.63 when it comes to moderation. 00:08:26.63\00:08:28.97 So go ahead, Pastor Doug. 00:08:32.57\00:08:35.01 - All right, thank you, Risen. 00:08:35.01\00:08:36.75 Yeah, no, I appreciate it. 00:08:36.75\00:08:38.21 And a matter of fact, I could even add to your argument. 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.18 It tells us in Ezekiel 00:08:41.98\00:08:43.45 about how God adorned His bride with jewelry. 00:08:43.45\00:08:47.06 And so I'm not denying 00:08:47.06\00:08:48.19 that people in the Bible wear jewelry. 00:08:48.19\00:08:49.79 And let me make it very clear 00:08:49.79\00:08:51.03 in case anyone out there misunderstands. 00:08:51.03\00:08:53.46 There's gonna be a lot of people 00:08:53.46\00:08:54.36 in heaven that wore jewelry. 00:08:54.36\00:08:56.20 So, yeah, I don't know, 00:08:56.20\00:08:58.00 I've answered that question many times, 00:08:58.00\00:08:59.57 so I don't know which answer you heard, 00:08:59.57\00:09:01.07 sometimes it focuses on a different aspect of it. 00:09:01.07\00:09:03.87 But I was saying that there are 00:09:03.87\00:09:06.31 a number of Scriptures in the Bible 00:09:06.31\00:09:08.21 that talk about jewelry being connected with pride. 00:09:08.21\00:09:12.01 And one of them is in Isaiah chapter, 00:09:12.01\00:09:15.12 I think it's Isaiah chapter 3, it says, 00:09:15.12\00:09:16.55 the daughters of Jerusalem are proud, 00:09:16.55\00:09:19.39 and they go walking and mincing as they go, 00:09:19.39\00:09:21.82 and it describes all their jewelry in detail. 00:09:21.82\00:09:25.93 And then you can even read about Lucifer, 00:09:26.86\00:09:28.63 it talks about all the precious stones that covered Lucifer. 00:09:28.63\00:09:31.83 When the children of Israel went out of Egypt, 00:09:32.90\00:09:35.37 jewelry was money in Bible times 00:09:35.37\00:09:37.01 because they had no paper money, 00:09:37.01\00:09:38.21 and so they used to trade with jewelry. 00:09:38.21\00:09:40.78 When Eliezer wanted to give a dowry to Rebekah, 00:09:40.78\00:09:45.61 it says he gave her a bracelet, 00:09:45.61\00:09:47.25 it tells how much it weighed because it was money. 00:09:47.25\00:09:50.49 The children of Israel ended up making a golden calf 00:09:50.49\00:09:52.95 out of their jewelry and worshiping it. 00:09:52.95\00:09:55.62 And so many Christians through history have believed 00:09:55.62\00:09:59.03 that because of statements where Paul says, 00:09:59.03\00:10:01.20 let the adorning not be the outward adorning, 00:10:01.20\00:10:03.23 the wearing of gold and putting on apparel. 00:10:03.23\00:10:05.67 And Paul talks about not with gold or pearls 00:10:05.67\00:10:08.10 or precious adornment, but with modesty. 00:10:08.10\00:10:12.34 And so, people, they're wondering, 00:10:13.31\00:10:15.11 well, if I just wear a little bit modestly, how's that? 00:10:15.11\00:10:18.58 I take the position that, how much is too much? 00:10:20.22\00:10:24.45 So, by the way, I have a book written by the same title, 00:10:24.45\00:10:27.49 and you may have read that, 00:10:27.49\00:10:28.99 it's called, "Jewelry: How Much Is Too Much?" 00:10:28.99\00:10:31.36 And the reason is that sometimes by your example, 00:10:31.36\00:10:34.96 some people, they're concerned about their appearance, 00:10:34.96\00:10:39.07 they have low self-esteem, 00:10:39.07\00:10:40.90 and they put on a lot of jewelry, 00:10:40.90\00:10:43.97 and it can be a stumbling block for somebody, 00:10:45.71\00:10:47.48 so to avoid having anyone else stumble. 00:10:47.48\00:10:50.58 And let's face it, a lot of people wear a lot of bling, 00:10:50.58\00:10:54.05 and they spend a lot of money. 00:10:54.05\00:10:55.62 So, if something is gonna make your brother stumble, 00:10:55.62\00:10:58.09 don't do it. 00:10:58.09\00:10:59.59 Paul says, "If eating meat's gonna make my brother stumble," 00:10:59.59\00:11:01.86 he's talking about eating meat offered to idols, 00:11:01.86\00:11:03.46 he said, "I won't eat it." 00:11:03.46\00:11:04.89 "I don't wanna do anything to make my brother stumble." 00:11:04.89\00:11:07.36 There will be people in heaven that drink alcohol. 00:11:07.36\00:11:09.26 I don't drink any alcohol 00:11:09.26\00:11:10.83 because some people will get addicted, 00:11:10.83\00:11:12.60 and it's a bad witness, 00:11:12.60\00:11:13.77 I also think there's good health reasons. 00:11:13.77\00:11:16.30 So I think the reason is, 00:11:16.30\00:11:19.61 for Christian modesty, a few years ago... 00:11:19.61\00:11:22.38 I'll say one more thing on that. 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.05 A few years ago, 00:11:24.05\00:11:25.35 a number of televangelists got into trouble, 00:11:25.35\00:11:27.78 they fell morally, and it became very public. 00:11:27.78\00:11:30.89 But the same televangelist, 00:11:30.89\00:11:32.19 they were always parading their Rolexes 00:11:32.19\00:11:34.86 and talking about their Bentley cars 00:11:34.86\00:11:36.46 and their wives were always dressed in 00:11:36.46\00:11:38.03 very flamboyant attire, lots of jewels. 00:11:38.03\00:11:40.53 And the world was making fun of them, 00:11:40.53\00:11:43.90 and they said, you're begging for all the money 00:11:43.90\00:11:45.47 from these poor people, and look at how you're bedecked. 00:11:45.47\00:11:49.44 So I've always taken the position that, 00:11:49.44\00:11:51.71 I think if a Christian's gonna make a mistake, 00:11:51.71\00:11:53.58 make a mistake on the side of modesty. 00:11:53.58\00:11:56.04 God is not gonna say to me when I stand before Him 00:11:56.04\00:11:59.11 in the judgment, "Doug, I can't let you in." 00:11:59.11\00:12:01.18 "Why not, Lord?" 00:12:01.18\00:12:02.15 "You didn't wear enough jewelry." 00:12:02.15\00:12:03.95 So I know some people out there think, 00:12:03.95\00:12:05.95 "Boy, you're kind of radical", but maybe. 00:12:05.95\00:12:09.29 - Well, God knows the human heart better than we do. 00:12:09.29\00:12:11.03 - Yeah. - And if God asked us 00:12:11.03\00:12:12.69 not to do something, ultimately it's for our own good. 00:12:12.69\00:12:15.40 We find an example in the Bible, in Exodus chapter 33, 00:12:15.40\00:12:18.53 before the children of Israel 00:12:18.53\00:12:19.70 were to enter into the Promised Land, 00:12:19.70\00:12:21.14 one of the things that God told them to do is 00:12:21.14\00:12:23.14 remove all of your jewelry. 00:12:23.14\00:12:24.57 He knew that that would be a stumbling block for them. 00:12:24.57\00:12:27.28 And, of course, like you say, 00:12:27.28\00:12:28.58 we wanna set a good example for those around us. 00:12:28.58\00:12:30.75 So, Risen, I'd encourage you to call and ask for that book, 00:12:30.75\00:12:33.82 it's called, "Jewelry: How Much Is Too Much?" 00:12:33.82\00:12:36.22 And that's for anyone wanting to know, 00:12:36.22\00:12:37.45 what does the Bible say about this topic? 00:12:37.45\00:12:39.52 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:12:39.52\00:12:43.69 And again, just ask for the book, 00:12:43.69\00:12:45.03 it's called, "Jewelry: How Much Is Too Much?" 00:12:45.03\00:12:48.20 We've got Mark listening in Tokyo, Japan. 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.73 That's where the Olympic Games were. 00:12:50.73\00:12:52.37 Mark, welcome to the program. 00:12:52.37\00:12:53.77 - [Mark] Yes, hello, Pastor Doug, 00:12:55.17\00:12:58.67 and Pastor Jean. - Yeah. 00:12:58.67\00:13:00.68 - I'm in actually Mitaka, Tokyo, 00:13:00.68\00:13:04.11 we're right next to the park where the bike races began, 00:13:04.11\00:13:07.85 and- - Oh, the Olympics? 00:13:09.82\00:13:11.32 - [Mark] Yeah, all the way through 00:13:11.32\00:13:13.62 around Mount Fuji to the Koku area. 00:13:13.62\00:13:18.09 And, boy, I don't know, 00:13:18.09\00:13:20.36 I don't know how they didn't keel over in the heat, 00:13:20.36\00:13:22.73 but they made it, so that's good. 00:13:22.73\00:13:25.50 - Yeah, that's good. 00:13:26.23\00:13:27.47 Well, I'm glad you got a front row seat there. 00:13:27.47\00:13:30.01 (Mark laughs) 00:13:30.01\00:13:31.94 - [Mark] Actually my question is, 00:13:31.94\00:13:35.24 I think it's a very simple one, 00:13:35.24\00:13:36.75 but yet I get so much opposition in this question, 00:13:36.75\00:13:40.08 and in this particular Bible verse, 00:13:41.28\00:13:43.55 and it's Ecclesiastes 9:5. 00:13:43.55\00:13:45.25 "For the living know that they will die; 00:13:46.35\00:13:48.69 but the dead know nothing, 00:13:49.69\00:13:51.79 and they have no more reward, 00:13:51.79\00:13:54.20 for the memory of them is forgotten." 00:13:54.20\00:13:56.23 And what I'm having so much opposition is, 00:13:56.23\00:13:59.63 is the very last verse of, 00:13:59.63\00:14:01.30 "For the memory of them is forgotten." 00:14:01.30\00:14:04.17 My version is the memory of the person that is deceased, 00:14:04.17\00:14:08.84 that is dead, that is now sleeping, 00:14:08.84\00:14:10.85 their memory is wiped out and gone, 00:14:10.85\00:14:13.95 but I'm getting people saying, 00:14:13.95\00:14:15.38 it's the memory of people that are alive that knew them. 00:14:15.38\00:14:19.62 And I'm thinking, well, my parents died many years ago, 00:14:19.62\00:14:23.26 and I still remember them. 00:14:23.26\00:14:24.76 So I'm not, somehow or other, 00:14:24.76\00:14:28.03 I need clarification on this particular, 00:14:28.03\00:14:30.70 which what it mean. 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.60 - What is forgotten when it says, 00:14:32.60\00:14:34.04 "The memory of them is forgotten"? 00:14:34.04\00:14:36.20 I'm looking at the Young's Literal Translation here, 00:14:36.20\00:14:38.51 and it words it for, "The living know they'll die, 00:14:38.51\00:14:40.98 but the dead know not anything, 00:14:40.98\00:14:43.18 and there is no more to them a reward 00:14:43.18\00:14:45.88 for their remembrance has been forgotten." 00:14:45.88\00:14:48.52 And I think if you go by this, Solomon is saying, 00:14:48.52\00:14:51.39 it could be taken one of two ways. 00:14:51.39\00:14:52.75 Solomon, I think here is saying that over time, 00:14:52.75\00:14:56.29 people do forget about the living, 00:14:57.53\00:15:00.53 but I think it also could be said 00:15:01.33\00:15:02.83 that that person's memories, 00:15:02.83\00:15:05.80 they're not thinking anything when they're dead. 00:15:05.80\00:15:09.40 So it doesn't mean they're not gonna be resurrected 00:15:10.54\00:15:12.41 to have any memories, but it just means 00:15:12.41\00:15:14.44 that they're not remembering anything when they're dead. 00:15:14.44\00:15:16.71 So there's kind of two ways you can look at that verse, 00:15:16.71\00:15:18.48 but either way fits with good theology. 00:15:18.48\00:15:22.18 - And, of course, the memory of those who are forgotten, 00:15:22.18\00:15:24.62 it's talking in general terms. 00:15:24.62\00:15:26.25 There are certain individuals, I mean, our family members, 00:15:26.25\00:15:28.69 our parents that we would remember, 00:15:28.69\00:15:30.83 but even if you think back four or five generations, 00:15:30.83\00:15:34.10 even in your own family, do you remember- 00:15:34.10\00:15:36.97 - Unless you're in a history book. 00:15:36.97\00:15:38.50 - Yeah, your ancestry. - It's very few. 00:15:38.50\00:15:40.14 - So I think it's talking in general terms. 00:15:40.14\00:15:42.24 The reality is that when a person dies, 00:15:42.24\00:15:44.91 their own memory ceases in death, 00:15:44.91\00:15:47.34 but over time their contribution to this life 00:15:47.34\00:15:51.01 is also forgotten unless... 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.25 It's interesting, unless they played a role 00:15:53.25\00:15:55.38 in helping to lead others to Christ, 00:15:55.38\00:15:57.39 and then that gets perpetuated. 00:15:57.39\00:15:59.25 - Right. - So we can. 00:15:59.25\00:16:00.99 I have a memory, and that is in sharing Christ with others. 00:16:00.99\00:16:03.86 Does that help, Mark? 00:16:03.86\00:16:05.09 - [Mark] Yeah, so what you're saying is really, 00:16:06.03\00:16:09.80 it's kind of a dual answer. 00:16:09.80\00:16:11.63 It's really the dead, for the person that is now sleeping, 00:16:11.63\00:16:15.00 his memory is now forgotten, 00:16:15.00\00:16:16.67 and then the people over time and forget about them, 00:16:16.67\00:16:21.44 and what they- - Mm-hmm. 00:16:21.44\00:16:22.91 - [Mark] What their actions and what they've done on earth. 00:16:22.91\00:16:24.85 - Yeah, Solomon, you look at the... 00:16:24.85\00:16:27.58 What do you call it, the context of everything 00:16:27.58\00:16:29.48 he's saying in chapter 9, he is saying, 00:16:29.48\00:16:31.85 the important thing is life. 00:16:31.85\00:16:34.72 He says, "To all the living there is hope, 00:16:34.72\00:16:36.49 for a living dog is better than a dead lion." 00:16:36.49\00:16:40.03 And he says, several times he talks about, 00:16:40.03\00:16:42.60 as the man dies, so dies the beast. 00:16:42.60\00:16:45.20 He's saying, if you're making your treasure down here, 00:16:45.20\00:16:47.44 it's really a waste because this life is temporary. 00:16:47.44\00:16:49.57 That's what he's really saying. 00:16:49.57\00:16:50.84 He concludes the whole book by saying, 00:16:50.84\00:16:52.27 what's the conclusion? 00:16:52.27\00:16:53.41 Fear God and keep His commandments 00:16:53.41\00:16:55.21 for this is the whole duty of man, 00:16:55.21\00:16:57.05 for God will bring every work into judgment 00:16:57.05\00:16:58.78 with every secret thing, whether it be good or evil. 00:16:58.78\00:17:00.85 So he's basically saying, don't live for this life alone, 00:17:00.85\00:17:04.85 think about the life that will last 00:17:04.85\00:17:06.52 because you're gonna die, and this life will be over. 00:17:06.52\00:17:09.49 So, but if you fear God and keep His commandments, 00:17:10.63\00:17:12.53 there is a judgment, and obviously there's a judgment, 00:17:12.53\00:17:14.96 there's a reward. 00:17:14.96\00:17:16.26 So that's how he concludes the whole book. 00:17:16.26\00:17:18.17 - All right, well, thank you for your call, Mark. 00:17:18.17\00:17:19.73 We do have a study guide, it's called, 00:17:19.73\00:17:20.94 "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:17:20.94\00:17:22.24 And it talks about the subject of, 00:17:22.24\00:17:23.61 what happens when a person dies. 00:17:23.61\00:17:25.41 And we'll be happy to send this to anyone in North America, 00:17:25.41\00:17:27.58 the number to call is 800-835-6747, 00:17:27.58\00:17:31.41 and you can ask for the study guide, 00:17:31.41\00:17:32.68 it's called, "Are the Dead Really Dead?" 00:17:32.68\00:17:34.22 We also have a website, it's called deathtruth.com. 00:17:34.22\00:17:37.22 And, of course, you can access this website 00:17:37.22\00:17:39.05 anywhere around the world, 00:17:39.05\00:17:40.89 and it's filled with all kinds of 00:17:40.89\00:17:42.62 wonderful Bible verses, sermons, study material. 00:17:42.62\00:17:46.03 So if you wanna learn more about the subject, 00:17:46.03\00:17:47.83 take a look at deathtruth.com. 00:17:47.83\00:17:50.60 Next caller we have is Robert, and he's listening from... 00:17:50.60\00:17:53.37 Let's see, Robert is in Washington. 00:17:53.37\00:17:56.40 Robert, welcome to the program. 00:17:56.40\00:17:58.17 - [Robert] Yes, hello. 00:17:59.47\00:18:00.48 Thank you for taking my call. 00:18:00.48\00:18:01.68 - Sure. 00:18:01.68\00:18:02.68 - [Robert] Okay, yeah, I have a question 00:18:03.81\00:18:06.11 about Isaiah 65:23. 00:18:06.11\00:18:08.58 - [Doug] Yeah. 00:18:08.58\00:18:09.98 - [Robert] And it's, "They shall not labor in vain, 00:18:09.98\00:18:12.12 nor bring forth for trouble; 00:18:12.12\00:18:13.79 for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, 00:18:13.79\00:18:15.89 and their offspring with them." 00:18:15.89\00:18:18.03 Okay, I had always understood this to be talking 00:18:18.03\00:18:22.20 about the survivors of the seven-year tribulation period, 00:18:22.20\00:18:26.67 and this is talking about the 1,000 year kingdom, 00:18:26.67\00:18:30.81 and those are the children born without trouble. 00:18:30.81\00:18:34.91 What is your take on that? 00:18:34.91\00:18:36.41 - All right, great question. 00:18:37.05\00:18:39.21 Keep in mind, Isaiah has prophesied 00:18:39.21\00:18:41.05 before the Jews were attacked by the Babylonians. 00:18:41.05\00:18:45.19 He lived quite awhile before that, 00:18:45.19\00:18:46.99 but he's foretelling a time 00:18:46.99\00:18:48.59 when they would go through a great trouble, 00:18:48.59\00:18:50.53 but there would be another period of peace 00:18:50.53\00:18:53.06 when they would come back 00:18:53.06\00:18:54.23 and their descendants would be blessed. 00:18:54.23\00:18:55.86 And that was during the time of Ezra-Nehemiah 00:18:55.86\00:18:58.13 got watched over them and... 00:18:58.13\00:18:59.80 But it's really a bigger picture of talking about heaven. 00:18:59.80\00:19:03.94 And you can read here, if you go back to verse 17, 00:19:03.94\00:19:09.21 "For behold I create new heavens and a new earth; 00:19:10.18\00:19:12.08 and the former will not be remembered nor come into mind." 00:19:12.08\00:19:15.02 And so he begins to talk about just, 00:19:15.02\00:19:17.62 there'll be no more weeping in Jerusalem, 00:19:17.62\00:19:20.89 my people will be at joy. 00:19:20.89\00:19:22.92 It's like Jesus said, 00:19:23.66\00:19:24.83 there's no more pain or suffering or sorrow, 00:19:24.83\00:19:26.43 in Revelation 21 and 22. 00:19:26.43\00:19:29.16 So it says, they'll not plant and another eat, 00:19:29.16\00:19:31.30 they'll not build and another inhabit. 00:19:31.30\00:19:32.83 They used to plant their vineyards and then they, 00:19:32.83\00:19:34.80 like in the story of Gideon, the Midianites came 00:19:34.80\00:19:36.87 and took all their produce, 00:19:36.87\00:19:38.47 or they'd chase them out, 00:19:38.47\00:19:39.44 they'd move into their houses. 00:19:39.44\00:19:41.08 And he said, "You will long enjoy the fruit of your hands." 00:19:41.08\00:19:44.55 Now I don't think it's saying, there's gonna be new births, 00:19:44.55\00:19:46.61 it says you and your offspring, 00:19:46.61\00:19:47.85 meaning you and your children will enjoy 00:19:47.85\00:19:51.45 the benefits of this eternal, peaceful kingdom, 00:19:51.45\00:19:54.49 but I think that's after the millennium. 00:19:54.49\00:19:55.96 - Yeah, if you look on a few more verses, verse 25 says, 00:19:55.96\00:19:58.43 "The wolf shall lay down with the lamb 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.36 and they will feed together." 00:20:00.36\00:20:01.86 So that's clearly talking about the earth made new 00:20:01.86\00:20:04.47 at the end of the 1,000 years. 00:20:04.47\00:20:06.20 It's also interesting, specifically Pastor Doug, 23, 00:20:06.20\00:20:09.10 it talks about, "You shall not bring forth 00:20:09.10\00:20:11.34 children for trouble, 00:20:11.34\00:20:13.44 and your descendants will be blessed to the Lord, 00:20:13.44\00:20:15.78 your offspring with them." 00:20:15.78\00:20:17.21 So the family unit will still be intact in heaven. 00:20:17.21\00:20:20.88 Now it doesn't mean that you're gonna be giving birth 00:20:20.88\00:20:22.85 to children in heaven. 00:20:22.85\00:20:24.82 The children that you have here 00:20:24.82\00:20:26.79 that perhaps will be alive when Jesus comes 00:20:26.79\00:20:29.26 or have died and are resurrected, 00:20:29.26\00:20:31.06 the children will grow up in heaven, 00:20:31.06\00:20:32.79 but the family unit will still be blessed. 00:20:32.79\00:20:34.36 - Yeah. - And there won't be any 00:20:34.36\00:20:35.76 fear for the future. 00:20:35.76\00:20:37.10 - Yeah, and it's actually the, 00:20:37.10\00:20:38.53 it's the antithesis of what Jesus said 00:20:38.53\00:20:40.37 on the way to the cross. 00:20:40.37\00:20:41.54 He told the daughters of Jerusalem- 00:20:41.54\00:20:42.57 - Hmm. - "Don't weep for Me, 00:20:42.57\00:20:43.94 but weep for you and your children." 00:20:43.94\00:20:45.54 - Mm-hmm. 00:20:45.54\00:20:46.84 - Because a great trial was coming. 00:20:46.84\00:20:48.08 Here He says, "Your children will be safe." 00:20:48.08\00:20:49.91 - Right. - It doesn't mean 00:20:49.91\00:20:50.75 they'll be procreating, 00:20:50.75\00:20:51.85 it just means that- - Right. 00:20:51.85\00:20:53.15 - Your children will be safe in the new kingdom, 00:20:53.15\00:20:54.15 they'll have peace. 00:20:54.15\00:20:55.55 - All right, well thanks for your call, Robert. 00:20:55.55\00:20:57.05 Hope that helps. 00:20:57.05\00:20:58.15 We got Hosen or Josen. 00:20:58.15\00:21:00.06 Josey, I think it is, in Washington. 00:21:00.96\00:21:03.43 Josue, welcome to the program. 00:21:03.43\00:21:06.09 - Hello, Pastor Doug. - Hi, welcome. 00:21:07.30\00:21:10.03 - Now how do say your name? 00:21:10.03\00:21:12.63 - [Josue] You say it Josue. 00:21:12.63\00:21:14.24 - Josue, okay - Josue, okay. 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.20 - Thank you. - Thanks. 00:21:15.20\00:21:17.61 - [Josue] Yep. 00:21:17.61\00:21:18.97 My question is on 1 Samuel 28. 00:21:18.97\00:21:22.28 - Okay. - And my question is how, 00:21:22.28\00:21:25.18 when I explain to a new believer 00:21:25.18\00:21:28.95 that because in that chapter, 00:21:28.95\00:21:31.89 Saul wanted to get to Samuel, but he wasn't alive. 00:21:32.95\00:21:36.73 And so how would I explain to a new believer 00:21:36.73\00:21:39.49 that Samuel wasn't alive, but the Bible says he was. 00:21:39.49\00:21:42.93 For example, in verse 15, 00:21:42.93\00:21:45.07 he says, "And Samuel said to Saul." 00:21:45.07\00:21:47.77 How would I explain to someone like that? 00:21:47.77\00:21:50.41 - Yeah, well, I think that for one thing, the context is, 00:21:50.41\00:21:53.58 does a witch have the power to resurrect a believer? 00:21:53.58\00:21:58.55 Does the devil have the power to resurrect a believer? 00:21:59.68\00:22:01.25 And I think the unspoken answer is, 00:22:01.25\00:22:03.85 well, and that would really be bizarre. 00:22:03.85\00:22:06.15 I think it's seeing this apparition that looked like 00:22:06.15\00:22:09.09 Samuel. So for the means of telling the story, they gotta 00:22:09.09\00:22:11.36 say, what do you call this apparition? 00:22:11.36\00:22:13.43 It claims to be Samuel. 00:22:13.43\00:22:15.16 And there's another place that Pastor Ross, 00:22:16.06\00:22:17.73 I think is going to right now in Chronicles 00:22:17.73\00:22:20.47 where it explains what Saul did. 00:22:20.47\00:22:21.87 And it's says, Saul actually died, 00:22:21.87\00:22:24.04 not just because of his pride in his rebellion, 00:22:24.04\00:22:26.84 but because he went to a medium, 00:22:26.84\00:22:29.01 and he was consulting evil spirits. 00:22:29.01\00:22:31.51 The Bible says, "Do not go to a necromancer, 00:22:31.51\00:22:33.98 somebody who speaks to the dead." 00:22:33.98\00:22:35.95 Paul said that people when they worship idols, 00:22:35.95\00:22:39.59 they don't realize they're worshiping devils. 00:22:39.59\00:22:41.86 And the Bible talks about Satan as devils 00:22:41.86\00:22:44.69 that work miracles. 00:22:44.69\00:22:46.09 Satan himself can be transformed into an angel of light. 00:22:46.09\00:22:49.13 Satan can bring down fire from heaven and create illusions. 00:22:50.60\00:22:54.24 And so there's just a lot of Scriptures 00:22:54.24\00:22:56.24 that explain that there are evil spirits 00:22:56.24\00:22:59.57 that can masquerade this way. 00:22:59.57\00:23:01.78 Do you have that, Pastor Ross? 00:23:01.78\00:23:03.51 - I'm just looking for a passage 00:23:03.51\00:23:04.61 that I found the one in 1 Psalm, 00:23:04.61\00:23:06.18 which is the one we're talking about. 00:23:06.18\00:23:07.48 Let me see if- - Yeah. 00:23:07.48\00:23:08.32 - I can pull it up here. 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.62 I'm familiar with that verse. 00:23:09.62\00:23:11.99 - So yeah, it- - You gotta get 00:23:11.99\00:23:13.42 the wording just right. - Yeah, it talks about how he- 00:23:13.42\00:23:15.29 - Yeah, here it is, 1 Chronicles 10:13. 00:23:15.29\00:23:18.43 That's the one, it says- - Go ahead. 00:23:18.43\00:23:21.00 - It says, "So Saul died for his transgression 00:23:21.00\00:23:23.00 which he committed against the Lord, 00:23:23.00\00:23:24.47 even against the Word of the Lord, which he kept not, 00:23:24.47\00:23:27.17 and also for asking counsel of one 00:23:27.17\00:23:29.00 that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it." 00:23:29.00\00:23:32.14 So there we, it says- - It's not Lord, 00:23:32.14\00:23:33.61 it's not Samuel, it's a familiar spirit. 00:23:33.61\00:23:35.41 - Yeah, that's right. - And that's what they used 00:23:35.41\00:23:36.58 for demons and (laughs) fallen angels. 00:23:36.58\00:23:39.48 Does that help a little bit, Josue? 00:23:39.48\00:23:41.48 - [Josue] Yes, it does. 00:23:42.38\00:23:44.09 - All righty, thanks so much for your question. 00:23:44.09\00:23:45.89 We do have a lesson on the Witch of Endor, 00:23:45.89\00:23:49.19 and it's in the historical series of the landmark series. 00:23:49.19\00:23:53.19 - Mm-hmm. 00:23:53.19\00:23:54.83 - And it's called, I think the Witch of Endor. 00:23:54.83\00:23:56.13 - If you'd like to learn more about that, 00:23:56.13\00:23:57.70 I think in this case, go to the Amazing Facts website. 00:23:57.70\00:24:00.27 You can actually read- - Yeah. 00:24:00.27\00:24:01.40 - The lesson for free online. - Mm-hmm. 00:24:01.40\00:24:02.60 - And it's called "The Witch of Endor", 00:24:02.60\00:24:04.17 it's part of the historical set of lessons 00:24:04.17\00:24:06.11 or the landmark set of lessons. 00:24:06.11\00:24:07.34 - Right. - They're in both of those. 00:24:07.34\00:24:08.91 Next caller that we have is John, 00:24:08.91\00:24:10.21 and he is listening in Florida. 00:24:10.21\00:24:11.35 John, welcome to the program. 00:24:11.35\00:24:12.98 - [John] Hi pastors, how are you doing? 00:24:14.28\00:24:16.05 - Doing really well, thank you. 00:24:16.05\00:24:17.82 - [John] Well, I'm calling on behalf of my wife. 00:24:19.22\00:24:22.26 We've been studying, 00:24:22.26\00:24:24.43 and I'm not as knowledgeable obviously as you guys, 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.96 and she's wondering why Seventh-Day Adventists 00:24:29.96\00:24:34.34 keep Catholic holidays? 00:24:34.34\00:24:37.14 - [Doug] Such as? 00:24:37.14\00:24:38.21 - [John] Easter primarily, but Christmas, 00:24:39.21\00:24:41.34 and I guess these were based on pagan holidays, 00:24:41.34\00:24:45.25 and her coming from Orthodox, 00:24:45.25\00:24:46.95 they follow different days obviously 00:24:46.95\00:24:49.32 than they do here in America. 00:24:49.32\00:24:51.15 - All right, well, let's jump in here, first of all. 00:24:51.15\00:24:53.82 Yeah, Seventh-Day Adventist, when you say, keep them, 00:24:53.82\00:24:56.32 we don't, we don't, (laughs) 00:24:56.32\00:24:58.66 we don't have a special mass on Christmas or Easter. 00:24:58.66\00:25:02.83 We meet, in other words, if Easter is on Wednesday, 00:25:02.83\00:25:07.40 I don't know any churches that say, let's get together on... 00:25:07.40\00:25:09.74 Well, Easter is always on Sunday, isn't it? (laughs) 00:25:09.74\00:25:12.07 I don't know any churches that get together on Sunday- 00:25:12.07\00:25:14.14 - [Jean] Yeah. 00:25:14.14\00:25:15.08 - Yeah, Christmas on Wednesday, 00:25:15.08\00:25:16.28 we don't all flock to the church 00:25:16.28\00:25:17.71 and have a mass or anything like that. 00:25:17.71\00:25:20.02 So we certainly don't. 00:25:20.02\00:25:21.85 And whether or not, it's one denomination or another, 00:25:21.85\00:25:24.25 we wanna know what the Bible says, right? 00:25:24.25\00:25:26.19 That's the main thing, Jean. - (mumbles) exactly. 00:25:26.19\00:25:29.02 - So I don't know, you wanna jump in, Pastor Ross? 00:25:29.02\00:25:30.73 - Yeah, I think it's important 00:25:30.73\00:25:31.89 for us to understand a little bit. 00:25:31.89\00:25:33.09 I mean, we're quite open and honest, 00:25:33.09\00:25:35.56 we don't believe Jesus was born December 20... 00:25:35.56\00:25:37.63 What is it? 00:25:37.63\00:25:38.50 The 25th of December. 00:25:38.50\00:25:39.60 We don't believe Jesus (Doug laughs) 00:25:39.60\00:25:40.44 was born December 25, 00:25:40.44\00:25:41.87 and I think there's some good biblical reasons for that. 00:25:41.87\00:25:43.97 We know the history a little bit about that. 00:25:43.97\00:25:46.07 And, of course, Easter, to peg it to one particular weekend, 00:25:46.07\00:25:50.78 it still moves in the calendar, 00:25:52.38\00:25:53.95 so even Easter is not exactly the time. 00:25:53.95\00:25:56.08 - Yeah. - I mean if you go 00:25:56.08\00:25:57.82 by the days, they'll move throughout the week, 00:25:57.82\00:26:00.19 and they pick a Sunday and they say, 00:26:00.19\00:26:01.49 well, this is the day. - Yeah, may not land 00:26:01.49\00:26:02.76 on a Passover. - It doesn't always land- 00:26:02.76\00:26:03.73 - Yeah. - On a Sunday. 00:26:03.73\00:26:05.06 But I think there's nothing wrong in celebrating 00:26:05.06\00:26:07.86 or remembering the resurrection of Jesus. 00:26:07.86\00:26:10.47 That's an important event. - Sure. 00:26:10.47\00:26:11.77 - And also remembering the death of Jesus, 00:26:11.77\00:26:13.87 but to keep that day as a holy day, 00:26:13.87\00:26:16.67 as somehow being a sacred day, 00:26:16.67\00:26:18.81 I think that's the issue, that's the concern. 00:26:18.81\00:26:21.41 - Yeah, there's no Bible 00:26:21.41\00:26:22.41 command to do that. - Exactly. 00:26:22.41\00:26:23.48 - But it is a scriptural event. 00:26:23.48\00:26:25.58 - Mm-hmm. 00:26:25.58\00:26:26.78 - So if you wanna remember the Thursday 00:26:26.78\00:26:29.88 when Jesus had the last supper. 00:26:29.88\00:26:31.32 Well, I guess you can, 00:26:31.32\00:26:32.45 no one else celebrates it, 00:26:32.45\00:26:33.89 but I think we ought to preach on everything Jesus did, 00:26:33.89\00:26:36.83 but yeah, there's no command 00:26:37.76\00:26:42.13 that we're supposed to celebrate His birth on that day. 00:26:42.13\00:26:44.17 - One of the things we try to do Pastor Doug, 00:26:44.17\00:26:45.53 talking about that around Easter time, 00:26:45.53\00:26:47.57 we try to do a communion service. 00:26:47.57\00:26:49.47 Some are connected around that time of the year. 00:26:49.47\00:26:51.64 Now, of course, we don't always get it on the day, 00:26:51.64\00:26:53.41 doesn't have to be on the exact day, 00:26:53.41\00:26:55.21 but it's kind of neat when the rest of the world 00:26:55.21\00:26:56.98 is talking about the death, burial, 00:26:56.98\00:26:58.78 and resurrection of Jesus for us to recognize 00:26:58.78\00:27:00.92 that through the institution 00:27:00.92\00:27:02.75 that Christ Himself established- 00:27:02.75\00:27:04.25 - That's not as sin to give somebody a present 00:27:04.25\00:27:06.49 on the 23rd of December, huh? - Yeah. 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.02 (Doug laughs) You could do that. 00:27:09.02\00:27:10.59 - If people are giving presents 00:27:10.59\00:27:12.06 in remembrance of God's gift, 00:27:12.06\00:27:14.36 that's probably as good the time as any. 00:27:14.36\00:27:16.06 - Well, we do have a book, it's called... 00:27:16.06\00:27:17.93 What is it called? 00:27:17.93\00:27:18.87 "Feast Days and Sabbaths." 00:27:18.87\00:27:20.24 No, wait. 00:27:20.24\00:27:21.47 There's another one. - "Baptized Paganism." 00:27:21.47\00:27:22.77 - That's the one I'm thinking, 00:27:22.77\00:27:23.71 (laughs) I was looking for here, 00:27:23.71\00:27:25.11 that actually deals with some of this, 00:27:25.11\00:27:26.57 and we'll be happy to send that out to anyone 00:27:26.57\00:27:28.21 who calls and asks. 00:27:28.21\00:27:29.58 Just ask for the book called "Baptized Paganism", 00:27:29.58\00:27:31.68 and the number for that is 800-835-6747. 00:27:31.68\00:27:36.18 - All right, friends, don't go far, 00:27:36.18\00:27:37.39 we're just taking our midterm break, 00:27:37.39\00:27:39.62 and we'll be back in a few moments with more Bible answers. 00:27:39.62\00:27:43.16 (upbeat music) 00:27:43.16\00:27:45.93 - [Commentator] Stay tuned, 00:27:46.56\00:27:47.76 Bible Answers Live will return shortly. 00:27:47.76\00:27:50.30 (upbeat music) 00:27:50.30\00:27:53.07 - [Speaker] Did you know Amazing Facts 00:27:53.94\00:27:55.50 has a free Bible school 00:27:55.50\00:27:56.91 that you can do from the comfort of your own home? 00:31:07.60\00:31:10.70 It's been three years since I've studied the Bible 00:31:10.70\00:31:12.93 and I want him to abide in me, 00:31:12.93\00:31:14.54 but I'm, the nature of my heart I feel, 00:31:14.54\00:31:16.87 and I love Jesus, but I think I love myself more. 00:31:16.87\00:31:20.84 I should just serve myself more 00:31:20.84\00:31:22.34 than I should just serve Him. 00:31:22.34\00:31:24.01 I have some improvements in some areas, 00:31:24.01\00:31:25.81 but I feel like I don't do those things with my efforts. 00:31:25.81\00:31:28.82 I mean, I do those things with my efforts 00:31:28.82\00:31:31.15 rather than depending on Him. - Hmm. 00:31:31.15\00:31:32.82 - [Roe] It's hard to obey Him, 00:31:32.82\00:31:34.32 and often fail to do so. 00:31:34.32\00:31:35.92 I pray and enjoy studying His Words, 00:31:35.92\00:31:37.96 and I desire to know Him, not as knowledge, 00:31:37.96\00:31:40.33 but with my heart, I want to really know Him, 00:31:40.33\00:31:42.93 but I know that I don't love with the love of Jesus. 00:31:42.93\00:31:44.83 When I ask others, I'm told that the fact I want Him 00:31:44.83\00:31:47.74 providing me is exactly the proof that He does, 00:31:47.74\00:31:50.57 But I also don't want to assume and be confident about it, 00:31:50.57\00:31:54.34 well, if in fact I don't let Him yet. 00:31:54.34\00:31:57.18 So what do you think? 00:31:57.18\00:31:58.85 - Yeah, great question. 00:31:58.85\00:32:01.05 You are not alone, there's a lot of people out there, 00:32:01.05\00:32:03.79 they want to love Jesus more. 00:32:03.79\00:32:06.05 If someone came to Christ and they said, 00:32:06.05\00:32:07.49 "Lord, what's the greatest commandment?" 00:32:07.49\00:32:08.99 Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, 00:32:08.99\00:32:12.43 mind, soul, and strength, 00:32:12.43\00:32:13.63 and love your neighbor as yourself." 00:32:13.63\00:32:15.53 Loving God with all is a full-time job. 00:32:15.53\00:32:18.63 And so for the Christian, 00:32:18.63\00:32:21.30 you always want to be feasting on the Word looking to Jesus, 00:32:21.30\00:32:25.11 talking to Jesus, and it's an ongoing discipline 00:32:25.11\00:32:27.91 because in this life, 00:32:27.91\00:32:30.61 we're weak, the devil is constantly trying to distract us 00:32:30.61\00:32:33.98 and derail us. 00:32:33.98\00:32:35.05 And God's very loving and patience, 00:32:35.05\00:32:36.42 so don't get discouraged, 00:32:36.42\00:32:37.95 but you wanna grow as a Christian. 00:32:37.95\00:32:39.79 And so, your devotional life, 00:32:39.79\00:32:42.36 the three most important things you can do 00:32:42.36\00:32:43.76 to grow spiritually is read the Word, 00:32:43.76\00:32:47.00 pray, and share your faith. 00:32:47.86\00:32:50.07 Do something to try to help others. 00:32:50.07\00:32:51.87 Love the Lord and love your neighbor. 00:32:51.87\00:32:53.70 So yeah, go ahead. 00:32:54.77\00:32:56.04 - We go to book, Pastor Doug, 00:32:56.04\00:32:57.31 it's called, "Three Steps to Heaven." 00:32:57.31\00:32:58.54 And I think it emphasizes those very three things 00:32:58.54\00:33:00.14 that you're talking about, the importance of prayer, 00:33:00.14\00:33:01.71 Bible study, sharing our faith. 00:33:01.71\00:33:03.31 And it's an ongoing spirit, 00:33:03.31\00:33:04.78 the Apostle Paul, this champion of faith, 00:33:04.78\00:33:08.15 and you just look at the things that he did, 00:33:08.15\00:33:09.75 he is a prophet inspired by the Spirit. 00:33:09.75\00:33:12.65 And yet he said, "I have not obtained." 00:33:12.65\00:33:14.79 He said, "I die daily." 00:33:14.79\00:33:15.99 So it is an ongoing daily experience 00:33:15.99\00:33:18.23 where we have to surrender ourselves to Christ. 00:33:18.23\00:33:19.89 And we might not be where we wanna be, 00:33:19.89\00:33:22.13 but we should by God's grace not be where we started out, 00:33:22.13\00:33:25.27 there should be spiritual growth in preparation. 00:33:25.27\00:33:27.47 - The Christian life, as Paul says, it's a fight. 00:33:27.47\00:33:29.50 - Mm-hmm. - It's a race, 00:33:29.50\00:33:30.67 it's a wrestling match, and- - Mm-hmm. 00:33:30.67\00:33:32.34 - But it's still a lot better to be a Christian 00:33:33.38\00:33:35.24 than to be lost in the world and be a slave of the devil. 00:33:35.24\00:33:37.41 - Hmm, absolutely. 00:33:37.41\00:33:38.78 - So there's some struggles, but feast on the Word. 00:33:38.78\00:33:41.72 - And don't give up. 00:33:41.72\00:33:42.88 Every Christian has those- - Yeah. 00:33:42.88\00:33:44.25 - Mountaintop experiences where you sense 00:33:44.25\00:33:45.89 the presence of God and you're filled with joy, 00:33:45.89\00:33:48.22 and it's just wonderful, 00:33:48.22\00:33:49.66 but you also have those moments 00:33:49.66\00:33:51.23 where you don't feel that close to God. 00:33:51.23\00:33:54.20 It's at those times that you need to exercise faith 00:33:54.20\00:33:56.36 and believe His Word that He said He'd never leave us 00:33:56.36\00:33:58.33 nor forsake us- - Yep. 00:33:58.33\00:33:59.60 - And hold onto His promises. - Absolutely. 00:33:59.60\00:34:01.60 So hope that helps a little bit, Roe. 00:34:01.60\00:34:03.24 Get that book, "Three Steps to Heaven", 00:34:03.24\00:34:04.67 it's free, just request it, we'll send it to you. 00:34:04.67\00:34:06.78 - The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:34:06.78\00:34:10.71 You can ask for the book, it's called, 00:34:10.71\00:34:11.95 "Three Steps to Heaven." 00:34:11.95\00:34:13.42 We'll be happy to send that to anyone who calls and asks. 00:34:13.42\00:34:16.28 We've got Gill listening from New York. 00:34:16.28\00:34:17.92 Gill, welcome to the program. 00:34:17.92\00:34:20.02 - Hi, good evening. - Evening. 00:34:20.02\00:34:22.79 And your question? - Yeah, hi. 00:34:22.79\00:34:24.29 Jean Ross, I remember talking to you off the air, 00:34:24.29\00:34:26.26 and Doug Batchelor, I remember you praying for me 00:34:26.26\00:34:27.86 off the air years ago too. 00:34:27.86\00:34:29.30 I'm also blind, visually impaired, so bear with me. 00:34:29.30\00:34:32.13 In 1 John 2:15, it says, 00:34:33.00\00:34:34.87 "Love not the world, nor anything in the world. 00:34:34.87\00:34:37.94 If anyone loves the world, 00:34:37.94\00:34:39.11 the love of the Father is not in him." 00:34:39.11\00:34:40.68 Now how do you balance that with John 3:16, 00:34:40.68\00:34:42.71 "For God so loved the world 00:34:42.71\00:34:44.78 that He gave His only begotten Son 00:34:44.78\00:34:46.72 that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, 00:34:46.72\00:34:48.78 but have everlasting life"? 00:34:48.78\00:34:50.55 And then I have another verse in question with that. 00:34:50.55\00:34:52.82 - All right, well, as far as loving not the world, 00:34:52.82\00:34:56.39 and then God says, "God so loved the world." 00:34:56.39\00:35:00.23 When the Bible tells us, 00:35:00.23\00:35:01.63 you look at the context of how something is being used. 00:35:01.63\00:35:04.57 When the Bible tells us to love not the world, 00:35:04.57\00:35:07.20 it's talking about worldliness. 00:35:07.20\00:35:09.17 And then is it James that says, 00:35:09.17\00:35:10.54 "If any man loves the world, 00:35:10.54\00:35:11.84 the love of the Father is not in him"? 00:35:11.84\00:35:14.24 God wants us to love lost people that are in the world, 00:35:14.24\00:35:17.68 and God so loved the lost people in the world. 00:35:17.68\00:35:20.68 Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. 00:35:20.68\00:35:23.12 It's not talking about the sin in the world 00:35:23.12\00:35:25.22 because that world is gonna pass away and the lust thereof. 00:35:25.22\00:35:28.32 So he's defining what about the world is gonna pass away. 00:35:28.32\00:35:31.33 The sin and the lusts of the world will pass away, 00:35:31.33\00:35:33.70 but he that does the will of God will abide forever. 00:35:33.70\00:35:36.03 Again, that's John chapter, 1 John 2:15-17. 00:35:36.03\00:35:40.64 - And the famous verse, John 3:16, 00:35:40.64\00:35:42.74 "For God so I love the world", 00:35:42.74\00:35:44.51 it's talking about the people in the world. 00:35:44.51\00:35:45.87 It's not talking about- - Yeah. 00:35:45.87\00:35:47.31 - The rocks, He loves people, He came to save people. 00:35:47.31\00:35:49.88 - Yeah. - And we ought to have 00:35:49.88\00:35:51.05 that same love for people. 00:35:51.05\00:35:52.21 - Yeah. - But there's a difference 00:35:52.21\00:35:53.42 between loving people 00:35:53.42\00:35:54.58 and loving the evil things in the world. 00:35:54.58\00:35:55.82 - The worldliness. - That's right. 00:35:55.82\00:35:57.52 - Which is different, yeah. - There is a difference. 00:35:57.52\00:35:59.12 - So you had another second part of the question- 00:35:59.12\00:36:02.56 - Yeah. - Gill? 00:36:02.56\00:36:04.19 - Yeah, Matthew 5:44 kind of maybe 00:36:04.19\00:36:07.30 answers your question a little bit. 00:36:07.30\00:36:08.63 It says, "But I tell you, love your enemies 00:36:08.63\00:36:10.30 and pray for those that persecute you, 00:36:10.30\00:36:11.83 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven." 00:36:11.83\00:36:13.57 But then in James 4, it says, 00:36:13.57\00:36:15.00 "Friendship with the world is enmity towards God." 00:36:15.00\00:36:18.07 - Yeah. 00:36:18.87\00:36:19.77 Well, yeah, you caught it. 00:36:19.77\00:36:20.91 So we kind of touched on that verse. 00:36:20.91\00:36:22.94 The Lord wants us to love everybody 00:36:24.01\00:36:26.41 for the purpose of saving them. 00:36:26.41\00:36:27.72 It doesn't mean we love evil, 00:36:27.72\00:36:29.15 and we certainly don't endorse bad behavior, 00:36:29.15\00:36:32.75 but yeah, matter of fact, one place God said to... 00:36:32.75\00:36:36.46 Was it King Jehoshaphat? 00:36:36.46\00:36:38.23 "Why will you be friends of those who are enemies of me?" 00:36:38.23\00:36:40.93 (laughs) He was making the league and supporting Ahab. 00:36:40.93\00:36:43.73 So we're not to love worldliness, 00:36:43.73\00:36:45.87 but yeah, Jesus died for all sinners. 00:36:45.87\00:36:48.50 - We've got Barrington listening from New York. 00:36:48.50\00:36:50.37 Barrington, welcome to the program. 00:36:50.37\00:36:52.37 - [Barrington] Good evening, Pastors. 00:36:53.24\00:36:54.98 - Evening. 00:36:54.98\00:36:56.18 - [Barrington] My question is this, 00:36:56.18\00:36:59.31 there's baptismal formula in Matthew 28. 00:37:01.45\00:37:04.39 - Yes. - Why the disciples 00:37:05.22\00:37:06.49 didn't follow that baptismal formula 00:37:06.49\00:37:09.89 when they were baptizing in Acts, the book of Acts? 00:37:09.89\00:37:13.56 - Yeah, well, you're correct 00:37:13.56\00:37:14.83 that there's no record of the disciple saying, 00:37:14.83\00:37:18.00 we baptize you in the name of the Father, 00:37:18.00\00:37:20.14 Son and Holy Spirit. 00:37:20.14\00:37:21.60 I don't think that we should assume that they never did. 00:37:21.60\00:37:25.31 So in Acts, I believe it says three, 00:37:25.31\00:37:28.41 at least three different ways. 00:37:28.41\00:37:29.64 It says baptize in the name of the Lord, 00:37:29.64\00:37:31.61 baptize in the name of the Lord, 00:37:31.61\00:37:33.31 baptize in the name of Jesus. 00:37:33.31\00:37:36.25 And so the exact wording is different in almost every case. 00:37:36.25\00:37:40.66 I think two of them are the same in Acts. 00:37:40.66\00:37:43.16 So I wouldn't get hung up on the wording. 00:37:43.16\00:37:45.56 When Christ said, "Baptize in the name of the Father, 00:37:45.56\00:37:47.60 Son and Holy Spirit", 00:37:47.60\00:37:49.23 and then in Peter it says, 00:37:49.23\00:37:51.07 "To be baptized in the name of the Lord", 00:37:51.07\00:37:53.60 and it says, "Baptize in the name of Jesus Christ" 00:37:53.60\00:37:57.17 in Acts 2:38. 00:37:57.17\00:38:00.21 So are you thinking that it must be uttered a certain way 00:38:00.21\00:38:05.01 or you're just wondering 00:38:05.01\00:38:06.21 why there's different terms that are used? 00:38:06.21\00:38:07.95 - [Barrington] Yeah, because Jesus says in Matthew 20, 00:38:07.95\00:38:11.19 all authority is given to Him in heaven and in earth. 00:38:11.19\00:38:15.26 So why not baptize in His name? 00:38:15.26\00:38:18.06 - Well, I think that the disciples did baptize 00:38:18.06\00:38:21.20 in the name of Jesus. 00:38:21.20\00:38:22.93 Well, in our church we try and cover all the bases. 00:38:22.93\00:38:25.50 (laughs) We say, "I baptize in the name of the Father, 00:38:25.50\00:38:28.74 His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit", 00:38:28.74\00:38:31.51 but yeah. 00:38:31.51\00:38:34.14 - I also think in Acts, there's a clear distinction be made. 00:38:34.14\00:38:36.51 You're right, we ought to baptize in the name of the 00:38:36.51\00:38:38.55 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 00:38:38.55\00:38:39.91 And I think that's very clear in Matthew chapter 28. 00:38:39.91\00:38:42.25 It's not saying that the disciples never prayed that way 00:38:42.25\00:38:45.39 or baptized, I should say that way, 00:38:45.39\00:38:46.89 but I think the point that obviously was in contention 00:38:46.89\00:38:49.99 at the time of the early Christian Church was Jesus 00:38:49.99\00:38:53.40 and His position as the Son of God, 00:38:53.40\00:38:56.06 as the Savior of the world. 00:38:56.06\00:38:57.57 Most of the Jews accepted the fact that God is, 00:38:57.57\00:39:00.80 God the Father is God, 00:39:00.80\00:39:02.57 but it was the Jesus' question 00:39:02.57\00:39:04.37 that raised a lot of dispute. 00:39:04.37\00:39:05.74 So I think we have it mentioned in Acts 10:48, 00:39:05.74\00:39:09.08 Luke is just making it very clear 00:39:09.08\00:39:10.61 that these were people being baptized into Christianity, 00:39:10.61\00:39:13.92 into Christ. - Yeah. 00:39:13.92\00:39:15.42 - And that was the point that was being emphasized. 00:39:15.42\00:39:16.89 - Yeah, I just looked it up real quick. 00:39:16.89\00:39:19.39 It says, baptized in Acts 2:38 in the name of Jesus Christ; 00:39:20.59\00:39:24.49 Acts 8:16, baptized in the name of the Lord; 00:39:24.49\00:39:27.60 Acts 10:48, the name of the Lord; 00:39:27.60\00:39:29.70 Acts 19:5, the name of the Lord Jesus. 00:39:29.70\00:39:31.90 So the wording is a little different, 00:39:31.90\00:39:33.77 but I think that the idea is, 00:39:33.77\00:39:36.27 are you being baptized into the name of the God of the Bible 00:39:36.27\00:39:41.31 and the Messiah Jesus? 00:39:41.31\00:39:42.68 As Pastor Ross was saying. 00:39:42.68\00:39:43.91 So let me just give you an analogy real quick. 00:39:43.91\00:39:48.35 That's not something we should get hung up on 00:39:48.35\00:39:50.29 because baptism is very much like marriage, 00:39:50.29\00:39:52.42 it's a public covenant that you're following Jesus. 00:39:52.42\00:39:55.52 And Pastor Ross and I are pastors, 00:39:55.52\00:39:57.56 we are ordained, we do weddings. 00:39:57.56\00:40:00.10 And when we do a wedding, 00:40:00.10\00:40:01.33 the important thing of that wedding covenant 00:40:01.33\00:40:03.47 is that the two individuals getting married know 00:40:03.47\00:40:06.97 who they're making the covenant to. 00:40:06.97\00:40:08.90 Some weddings I might say, "Bill, do you take Sally?" 00:40:08.90\00:40:11.71 It's a little informal. 00:40:11.71\00:40:13.44 Other weddings I might say, 00:40:13.44\00:40:14.61 "Do you, William Randolph Hearst..." 00:40:14.61\00:40:18.15 No, not him, but anyway. (Jean laughs) 00:40:18.15\00:40:19.58 Now he's gonna marry Patina James, or whatever, 00:40:19.58\00:40:23.89 just the whole name, and it's very formal. 00:40:23.89\00:40:26.55 Either way you do that wedding. 00:40:26.55\00:40:28.32 When they say, "I do", and they're witnesses, 00:40:28.32\00:40:29.99 and they sign that document, they're married. 00:40:29.99\00:40:32.43 So the wording in the ceremony 00:40:32.43\00:40:35.80 is never emphasized in the Bible 00:40:35.80\00:40:37.90 as that is supposed to be the important thing. 00:40:37.90\00:40:39.90 They all knew they were getting baptized 00:40:39.90\00:40:41.50 in the name of Jesus Christ, 00:40:41.50\00:40:44.47 and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, 00:40:44.47\00:40:46.04 the God of the Bible. 00:40:46.04\00:40:48.31 - You know we have a book- - We do. 00:40:48.31\00:40:49.61 - Called, "Baptism: Is It Really Necessary?" 00:40:49.61\00:40:51.48 - I've actually, pardon me. 00:40:51.48\00:40:52.41 - Oh, we have another. 00:40:52.41\00:40:53.38 - I've got a book called, 00:40:53.38\00:40:54.92 "The Name of the Lord." - "The Name of the Lord." 00:40:54.92\00:40:56.22 There you go. - "The Name of the Lord" talks 00:40:56.22\00:40:57.69 about baptism and what name do we get baptized in. 00:40:57.69\00:40:58.85 - That might even be a better book. 00:40:58.85\00:41:00.26 I mean, both are available. 00:41:00.26\00:41:01.39 You can ask, "The Name of the Lord", 00:41:01.39\00:41:03.02 or the book, "Baptism: Is It Really Necessary?" 00:41:03.02\00:41:05.76 For those who aren't baptized, 00:41:05.76\00:41:07.20 we wanna encourage you to prayerfully consider this, 00:41:07.20\00:41:09.30 it's an important step. 00:41:09.30\00:41:10.50 And you might wanna call and ask for that book, 00:41:10.50\00:41:12.73 and then also ask for the book 00:41:12.73\00:41:13.84 that's called, "The Name of God." 00:41:13.84\00:41:15.14 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:41:15.14\00:41:18.74 And, again, just ask for those free books. 00:41:18.74\00:41:20.38 If you're outside of North America, 00:41:20.38\00:41:22.34 you can still read it by simply going 00:41:22.34\00:41:24.08 to the Amazing Facts website, just AmazingFacts.org. 00:41:24.08\00:41:28.48 Next caller that we have is James 00:41:28.48\00:41:29.75 listening from New Orleans. 00:41:29.75\00:41:31.65 James, welcome to the program. 00:41:31.65\00:41:33.36 - Maybe you're muted, James, you there? 00:41:35.52\00:41:36.89 - Well, good evening, Pastors. - Evening. 00:41:36.89\00:41:38.79 - [James] I'm here, can you hear me? 00:41:38.79\00:41:41.73 - You're popping in and out a little bit. 00:41:41.73\00:41:43.63 So yeah, state your question, 00:41:43.63\00:41:45.33 and we'll do our best to answer it. 00:41:45.33\00:41:47.07 - [James] Thank you, sir. 00:41:49.70\00:41:51.21 My question is, is there any opportunity 00:41:51.21\00:41:54.51 to be saved after the rapture? 00:41:54.51\00:41:57.08 - Is there an opportunity to be saved 00:41:57.08\00:41:58.38 after the rapture? - (mumbles) opportunity 00:41:58.38\00:41:59.35 to be saved? 00:41:59.35\00:42:00.98 - Okay, we're gonna bring your volume down, 00:42:00.98\00:42:02.55 your phone, your cell is having a problem. 00:42:02.55\00:42:05.65 If you look in 2 Peter chapter 3, 00:42:06.79\00:42:09.02 it talks about the day of the Lord coming 00:42:09.02\00:42:11.76 as a thief in the night, 00:42:11.76\00:42:13.33 in which the heavens pass away with a great noise, 00:42:13.33\00:42:15.86 and the elements melt with fervent heat. 00:42:15.86\00:42:18.47 The day of the Lord is when Jesus comes back. 00:42:18.47\00:42:21.47 You can read in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, 00:42:21.47\00:42:25.84 "The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:42:25.84\00:42:27.91 the voice of the archangel, 00:42:27.91\00:42:29.44 the trump of God, and the dead in Christ will be caught up." 00:42:29.44\00:42:31.85 That's the rapture, we get caught up. 00:42:31.85\00:42:33.98 What happens at that time? 00:42:33.98\00:42:36.25 Thessalonian says, "The wicked are destroyed 00:42:36.25\00:42:37.75 by the brightness of His coming." 00:42:37.75\00:42:39.59 And so, no, I don't believe there's any chance, 00:42:39.59\00:42:42.76 once the Lord comes and people are caught up, 00:42:42.76\00:42:45.06 we're of the opinion that the tribulation happens before- 00:42:45.06\00:42:48.03 - Mm-hmm. - They're raptured up, 00:42:48.03\00:42:49.56 not after. 00:42:49.56\00:42:51.03 - So you go through what we call the tribulation, 00:42:51.03\00:42:52.77 and the Bible speaks about the seven last plagues 00:42:52.77\00:42:54.50 being poured out. 00:42:54.50\00:42:55.94 God's people are protected during that time, 00:42:55.94\00:42:57.51 just like the children of Israel were protected 00:42:57.51\00:42:58.97 when the 10 plagues came upon Egypt, 00:42:58.97\00:43:01.21 then they were delivered after the plagues. 00:43:01.21\00:43:03.11 So God's people are protected during those 00:43:03.11\00:43:04.85 seven last plagues. 00:43:04.85\00:43:05.98 But then when Jesus comes, 00:43:05.98\00:43:07.98 the righteous are caught up to meet the Lord in the air, 00:43:07.98\00:43:10.35 the wicked are destroyed at the brightness of His coming, 00:43:10.35\00:43:12.82 as 2 Thessalonians tells us. 00:43:12.82\00:43:14.56 We also need to remember that just before Jesus comes, 00:43:14.56\00:43:17.13 there is a universal death decree, 00:43:17.13\00:43:19.56 according to Revelation chapter 13 00:43:19.56\00:43:21.36 passed against God's faithful people. 00:43:21.36\00:43:24.50 So Jesus comes to the deliverance of His people 00:43:24.50\00:43:27.64 and the wicked are then destroyed 00:43:27.64\00:43:29.17 with the brightness of His coming. 00:43:29.17\00:43:30.47 - Yeah, it's not just the Jews as some of- 00:43:30.47\00:43:31.84 - That's right. - My friends believe. 00:43:31.84\00:43:33.64 - Yes. - It's talking 00:43:33.64\00:43:35.28 about any believers. 00:43:35.28\00:43:36.75 - Pastor Doug, I think this is important, 00:43:36.75\00:43:38.28 this is an important Bible truth for people to understand. 00:43:38.28\00:43:40.18 I've actually heard people talking about this, 00:43:40.18\00:43:42.58 and he wasn't a believer but she was. 00:43:42.58\00:43:45.15 And his argument was, 00:43:45.15\00:43:46.35 well, I'll wait until suddenly she disappears, 00:43:46.35\00:43:48.99 and then I'll know that what she says is real, 00:43:48.99\00:43:51.13 and I'll get my act together and I'll seek after God. 00:43:51.13\00:43:53.40 - Right, repent during the seven years. 00:43:53.40\00:43:54.83 - Well, it's gonna be too late, right? 00:43:54.83\00:43:56.23 - Yeah. (laughs) - I mean when Jesus comes, 00:43:56.23\00:43:57.50 there's no second chance. 00:43:57.50\00:43:58.50 So it's a good point to bring up, James, 00:43:58.50\00:44:00.07 something that I think we need to study out. 00:44:00.07\00:44:02.34 We do have a book on the topic, 00:44:02.34\00:44:04.71 it's called "Anything But Secret." 00:44:04.71\00:44:06.37 It's talking about the second coming of Christ, 00:44:06.37\00:44:08.34 and we'll be happy to send it to anyone who calls and asks. 00:44:08.34\00:44:11.11 The number again is 800-835-6747, 00:44:11.11\00:44:14.98 and you can ask for the book, 00:44:14.98\00:44:16.05 it's called "Anything But Secret." 00:44:16.05\00:44:17.95 And, of course, you can read it outside of North America 00:44:17.95\00:44:20.39 just by simply going to the website. 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.39 Of course, if you're in North America, 00:44:22.39\00:44:23.76 you can read it too at the website. 00:44:23.76\00:44:25.66 We've got Derek listening in Minnesota. 00:44:25.66\00:44:27.86 Derek, welcome to the program. 00:44:27.86\00:44:29.70 - [Derek] Oh, hi, thanks for taking my call. 00:44:29.70\00:44:31.63 I had a question, and it's sort of like, 00:44:31.63\00:44:33.37 you know how the first angel message 00:44:33.37\00:44:35.44 mirrors the Sabbath commandment? 00:44:35.44\00:44:38.14 I noticed in Genesis in the New King James version, 00:44:38.14\00:44:40.78 Genesis 6 or 3:16, 00:44:40.78\00:44:43.31 and then in Genesis 4:7. 00:44:43.31\00:44:45.48 Like the 3:16, it talks about like Eve 00:44:45.48\00:44:48.55 and the desire will be for the husband 00:44:48.55\00:44:50.35 and he'll rule over you. 00:44:50.35\00:44:51.92 And then when you go to Genesis 4:7, it says like, 00:44:51.92\00:44:54.62 sin lies on the door, and it'll be your desire, 00:44:54.62\00:44:58.33 and then it'll rule over it, or something like that. 00:44:58.33\00:45:00.83 It's weird how it's like the language is kind of mirrored 00:45:00.83\00:45:03.53 in both of those verses, 00:45:03.53\00:45:04.73 and I didn't understand it. 00:45:04.73\00:45:06.84 Is there some like symbolism there? 00:45:06.84\00:45:08.84 - That's a good point. 00:45:10.37\00:45:11.67 Of course, one is a statement 00:45:11.67\00:45:14.81 where God is talking about the consequences of sin 00:45:14.81\00:45:19.55 in Genesis chapter 3. 00:45:19.55\00:45:21.42 With Cain, He's saying 00:45:21.42\00:45:23.08 that sin wants to have the mastery of you, 00:45:23.08\00:45:25.89 but you should rule over, you should subdue it, 00:45:25.89\00:45:27.79 don't resist it. 00:45:27.79\00:45:29.56 And he would not resist his pride, 00:45:29.56\00:45:31.66 in that sin he ultimately killed his brother. 00:45:31.66\00:45:34.23 But is there a connection between those two? 00:45:34.23\00:45:37.80 I can't spot one right now. 00:45:37.80\00:45:39.37 Sure, I mean, the verse is, the wording's similar, but... 00:45:39.37\00:45:41.34 - The wording is similar, but I think 00:45:41.34\00:45:42.67 that probably the idea in my understanding is 00:45:42.67\00:45:45.17 when it says, sin lies at the door, 00:45:45.17\00:45:47.24 and it's desire is for you, but you shall rule over it, 00:45:47.24\00:45:49.78 it's kind of referencing that carnal nature, 00:45:49.78\00:45:51.85 that sinful nature that we've inherited- 00:45:51.85\00:45:54.92 - [Doug] Sin shall not have dominion over you. 00:45:54.92\00:45:56.48 - Yeah, we've inherited from Adam and Eve, 00:45:56.48\00:45:59.79 and our parents all the way down, 00:45:59.79\00:46:01.52 but the Bible tells us that by God's grace 00:46:01.52\00:46:04.03 we are to rule over it. 00:46:04.03\00:46:05.13 In other words, it's not to rule us. 00:46:05.13\00:46:06.49 - [Doug] Right. - So it's not a sin 00:46:06.49\00:46:07.66 to be tempted, but by God's grace 00:46:07.66\00:46:09.93 we are to resist that temptation, 00:46:09.93\00:46:11.47 we have to rule over that temptation. 00:46:11.47\00:46:13.30 - [Doug] Mm-hmm. 00:46:13.30\00:46:14.47 - And that's what we find in this verse. 00:46:14.47\00:46:16.30 - Yeah. 00:46:16.30\00:46:17.14 Well, thank you, Derek. 00:46:17.14\00:46:18.27 We've got a lot of calls lined up, 00:46:18.27\00:46:19.51 we're gonna try and get a few more in. 00:46:19.51\00:46:20.48 - We've got Sherman. 00:46:20.48\00:46:21.88 Oh, Sherwin, I should say, listening from Canada. 00:46:21.88\00:46:23.41 Sherwin, welcome to the program. 00:46:23.41\00:46:25.18 - [Sherwin] Hi, good evening, Pastor Ross and Pastor Doug. 00:46:26.38\00:46:28.68 - Evening. 00:46:28.68\00:46:29.72 - [Sherwin] Hi, my question is about 00:46:30.62\00:46:32.42 the justification and sanctification. 00:46:34.19\00:46:36.89 So I've always believed that justification 00:46:36.89\00:46:39.33 and sanctification is sort of a linear process, 00:46:39.33\00:46:42.23 but now I'm thinking, so every time I sin, 00:46:42.23\00:46:45.10 really I get justified if I ask for forgiveness, 00:46:45.10\00:46:48.54 and then so on and so forth. 00:46:48.54\00:46:51.04 So it's looking like it's more recursive 00:46:51.04\00:46:55.08 or it's in a cycle rather than it's linear, 00:46:55.08\00:46:59.28 and then eventually glorification comes. 00:46:59.28\00:47:01.78 So my confusion is, 00:47:01.78\00:47:03.75 is the justification and sanctification process, 00:47:03.75\00:47:06.86 is it linear or more of a recursive? 00:47:06.86\00:47:10.69 - All right, I think I understand what you're saying. 00:47:10.69\00:47:13.50 Let me give you another way to look at it. 00:47:13.50\00:47:15.70 When Jesus died, he provided justification 00:47:15.70\00:47:18.93 for all that believe, 00:47:18.93\00:47:20.10 and I'm looking at three verses in Romans 00:47:20.10\00:47:21.77 that talk about that: Romans 4:25, 00:47:21.77\00:47:24.27 Romans 5:16, Romans 5:18 00:47:24.27\00:47:27.71 talks about resulting in justification of life. 00:47:27.71\00:47:30.31 Think of justification as that through the blood of Christ, 00:47:30.31\00:47:33.98 He filled an ocean that will wash away sin. 00:47:33.98\00:47:37.92 He does that once, 00:47:38.69\00:47:40.99 we may need to jump in that ocean several times, 00:47:40.99\00:47:44.33 and have that justification renewed, 00:47:44.33\00:47:47.23 but He was justified once in, 00:47:47.23\00:47:49.13 and in another He provided this justification for those 00:47:49.13\00:47:52.93 who will take advantage of His offer 00:47:52.93\00:47:56.17 when He died on the cross, and He died for the sins 00:47:57.31\00:47:59.31 and He poured His blood out, 00:47:59.31\00:48:00.81 and it was adequate for the whole world at that point. 00:48:00.81\00:48:03.85 But you and I often have to renew our justifications 00:48:03.85\00:48:07.45 where Paul said, "I die daily." 00:48:07.45\00:48:08.62 Dying daily is not just sanctification, 00:48:08.62\00:48:11.19 dying daily is asking for, I wanna be resurrected new life, 00:48:11.19\00:48:14.92 and have a refreshed justification. 00:48:14.92\00:48:18.49 - [Jean] We have a book that you wrote, Pastor Doug, 00:48:18.49\00:48:20.00 it's called "Assurance: Justification Made Simple", 00:48:20.00\00:48:22.66 and deals with this very subject. 00:48:22.66\00:48:23.80 - [Doug] That's right. 00:48:23.80\00:48:25.13 - [Jean] And I think anyone would be encouraged 00:48:25.13\00:48:26.43 by reading this. 00:48:26.43\00:48:27.57 The number to call is 800-835-6747. 00:48:27.57\00:48:30.94 And again, you can ask for the book written by Pastor Doug, 00:48:30.94\00:48:32.77 it's called "Assurance: Justification Made Simple." 00:48:32.77\00:48:35.71 - [Doug] And, Sherwin, in Canada can read that online. 00:48:35.71\00:48:37.35 - That's right. (Doug mumbles) 00:48:37.35\00:48:38.31 And we can send it to Canada. 00:48:38.31\00:48:39.41 Anyone in North America. - That's right. 00:48:39.41\00:48:40.42 - So yep, you can read online, 00:48:40.42\00:48:41.78 or if you're in North America we can send it to you. 00:48:41.78\00:48:44.62 We've got David listening in Hawaii. 00:48:44.62\00:48:46.45 David, welcome to the program. 00:48:46.45\00:48:48.12 - [David] Hey, Pastor, thanks for having me. 00:48:49.39\00:48:51.09 - [Doug] Yeah, 00:48:51.09\00:48:52.49 - [David] My question is in regards to the 2,300 days 00:48:52.49\00:48:55.50 in Daniel chapter 8. 00:48:55.50\00:48:56.93 Specifically how does it tie to the Day of Atonement: 00:48:58.03\00:49:00.97 The context in Daniel chapter 8 00:49:00.97\00:49:03.17 is that the sanctuary is being cleansed 00:49:03.17\00:49:04.84 because the little horn has desecrated, 00:49:04.84\00:49:07.41 but the context of the Day of Atonement 00:49:07.41\00:49:10.21 is that it is being cleansed 00:49:10.21\00:49:11.38 because of the sins of the repentant. 00:49:11.38\00:49:13.38 Also the word "cleanse" is not the same Hebrew word 00:49:13.38\00:49:17.02 in Daniel 8:14 00:49:17.02\00:49:18.79 as it is when it's referring to the Day of Atonement. 00:49:18.79\00:49:21.96 And lastly, why is the day/year principal applied 00:49:21.96\00:49:25.36 when it says evenings and mornings, 00:49:25.36\00:49:27.03 and we don't apply that to other prophecies 00:49:27.03\00:49:29.63 like Jesus' prophecy about being buried three evenings 00:49:29.63\00:49:32.90 and mornings for in the creation account. 00:49:32.90\00:49:35.50 - Okay, you got several questions there. 00:49:35.50\00:49:37.54 Hopefully we'll try and cover some of that. 00:49:37.54\00:49:39.84 Can I start with your last one though? 00:49:39.84\00:49:42.08 The last one you're talking about, 00:49:42.08\00:49:43.31 why do we apply the day for the year? 00:49:43.31\00:49:45.71 Either way you do it. 00:49:46.68\00:49:48.22 If in Daniel chapter 8, 00:49:48.22\00:49:49.95 it's talking about the ultimate cleansing of God's people, 00:49:49.95\00:49:52.92 which occurred on the Day of Atonement. 00:49:52.92\00:49:55.59 The Day of Atonement happened once a year, 00:49:55.59\00:49:58.33 so if you say that this is 2,300 years or days rather, 00:49:58.33\00:50:03.30 and you apply the day for the year principal, 00:50:03.30\00:50:05.80 well, then it's 2,300 years. 00:50:05.80\00:50:08.27 If you say, well, it's 2,300 days of atonement, 00:50:08.27\00:50:12.14 and the Day of Atonement comes once a year, 00:50:12.14\00:50:14.14 it's still 2,300 years 00:50:14.14\00:50:16.04 because you're talking 2,300 days of atonement 00:50:16.04\00:50:18.35 that come once a year. 00:50:18.35\00:50:19.61 So I think it's real easy to support 00:50:19.61\00:50:21.55 that this is speaking of a year. 00:50:21.55\00:50:24.02 The other thing is, Jesus, He did used the day and the year. 00:50:24.02\00:50:27.22 Christ after John the Baptist was arrested, 00:50:27.22\00:50:30.76 Jesus told His friends, 00:50:30.76\00:50:32.03 I think this is Luke chapter... 00:50:32.03\00:50:34.30 Let me see, there's a Luke chapter 13, I forget. 00:50:34.30\00:50:37.53 He said, if you type in the word "fox" you'll find it. 00:50:37.53\00:50:40.37 Jesus said, "Go tell that fox that I teach 00:50:40.37\00:50:42.77 and do cures and cast out devils today, and tomorrow, 00:50:42.77\00:50:47.28 and the third day I'll be perfected." 00:50:47.28\00:50:50.01 - That's Luke 13:32. - Thank you. 00:50:50.01\00:50:52.38 Yeah, so it wasn't, Jesus did not teach three more, 00:50:52.38\00:50:55.48 this is six months into His ministry, 00:50:55.48\00:50:56.95 He did not teach three more days, 00:50:56.95\00:50:58.59 He taught three more years, but He was making a prophecy. 00:50:58.59\00:51:01.92 So the only way Daniel 8 works 00:51:01.92\00:51:03.93 is if you do apply the day for the year, 00:51:03.93\00:51:06.43 and the context of it is 00:51:06.43\00:51:07.93 the ultimate cleansing of God's people. 00:51:07.93\00:51:10.00 - And, of course, we only apply the day for a year principal 00:51:10.00\00:51:12.57 when we're talking about Bible prophecy, 00:51:12.57\00:51:14.10 and clearly Daniel is a prophetic book, 00:51:14.10\00:51:16.20 there's a lot of imagery that's used. 00:51:16.20\00:51:18.21 You wouldn't apply this prophecy 00:51:18.21\00:51:19.44 talking about the six days of creation 00:51:19.44\00:51:21.31 because that just wouldn't make sense. 00:51:21.31\00:51:23.48 (Doug mumbles) So instead of talking 00:51:23.48\00:51:24.65 about six days, try and make it 6,000. 00:51:24.65\00:51:27.98 It doesn't work because, for example, 00:51:27.98\00:51:29.42 you have vegetation created before you have the sun. 00:51:29.42\00:51:32.59 So, I mean, that's clearly six days, 00:51:32.59\00:51:34.26 and, of course, then the seventh day God rested, 00:51:34.26\00:51:37.06 and He blessed, and He set it apart. 00:51:37.06\00:51:38.96 - Can I make a suggestion? 00:51:38.96\00:51:40.43 I wanna try and get one more call, 00:51:40.43\00:51:41.36 Pastor Ross. - Yeah. 00:51:41.36\00:51:42.93 - David, we have a magazine that we just came out with, 00:51:42.93\00:51:45.27 that's called "Divine Design" 00:51:45.27\00:51:47.14 and it goes into Daniel chapter 8 in great detail. 00:51:47.14\00:51:50.77 You've asked some great questions, 00:51:50.77\00:51:52.17 we need 25 minutes to answer your questions, 00:51:52.17\00:51:54.48 or more than that. 00:51:54.48\00:51:55.61 So please look at the magazine, 00:51:55.61\00:51:57.45 and I think it covers all of your questions, 00:51:57.45\00:52:00.15 and that will let us take one more caller. 00:52:00.15\00:52:02.22 - Okay, absolutely. 00:52:02.22\00:52:03.72 Let's see, we've got Jaylin listening in Atlanta, Georgia. 00:52:03.72\00:52:07.02 Jaylin, welcome to the program. 00:52:07.02\00:52:08.76 - [Jaylin] Hey, how are you guys doing today? 00:52:09.69\00:52:11.69 - Good, thank you for calling. 00:52:11.69\00:52:12.96 And your question tonight? - Yes, sir. 00:52:12.96\00:52:15.13 Yes, sir, I'm gonna make it quick. 00:52:15.13\00:52:17.20 So it's on tithe. 00:52:17.20\00:52:19.20 Can you hear me well? - We can. 00:52:19.20\00:52:21.07 - [Jaylin] All right, beautiful, beautiful. 00:52:22.04\00:52:23.71 So I've been doing a... 00:52:23.71\00:52:24.84 I actually saw a video about tithe, 00:52:24.84\00:52:27.98 and I heard you speaking, Pastor Doug, about it. 00:52:27.98\00:52:32.15 So I just did some research just on it 00:52:32.15\00:52:36.02 because there's a lot of controversy on it. 00:52:36.02\00:52:37.95 And when I did my research, however, 00:52:37.95\00:52:40.26 I pinpoint tithe, it just mean produce grain. 00:52:40.26\00:52:44.46 Let me see, 00:52:44.46\00:52:45.49 livestock, oil, wine. 00:52:45.49\00:52:48.60 And the only time I see tithe mentioned with money, however, 00:52:50.73\00:52:55.70 is when I see it says in Deuteronomy. 00:52:56.87\00:52:57.81 It says, if the journey be too long, 00:52:57.81\00:52:59.81 you should sell your tithe coming from agriculture 00:52:59.81\00:53:03.58 that they have produced. - Right? 00:53:03.58\00:53:04.68 - And you can use the money 00:53:04.68\00:53:06.68 and go to where the Lord, that God put in. 00:53:06.68\00:53:08.48 You can buy wine, strong drink, 00:53:08.48\00:53:10.59 but that's a whole another subject, 00:53:10.59\00:53:12.42 but any who, you can... 00:53:12.42\00:53:14.59 That's the only connection I see with tithes with money, 00:53:14.59\00:53:16.76 and it was for the Levites, they were priests 00:53:16.76\00:53:19.26 and they worked in the temple. - All right, so 00:53:19.26\00:53:20.50 I wanna wrap it up and then they... 00:53:20.50\00:53:21.96 Maybe we're gonna run out of time, so I've got to- 00:53:21.96\00:53:24.40 - Oh, yes, sir. - Let me- 00:53:24.40\00:53:25.90 - [Jaylin] Oh, I'm sorry. 00:53:26.70\00:53:27.87 I was gonna say... 00:53:27.87\00:53:29.37 Yes sir, my question was, how does pastors receive tithes 00:53:29.37\00:53:34.48 if they were for the Levites, 00:53:35.14\00:53:36.61 and pastors don't come from the tribe of Levite and whatnot? 00:53:36.61\00:53:38.95 And it was never money. 00:53:38.95\00:53:40.45 - Let me answer that as quickly as I can. 00:53:40.45\00:53:43.42 You are right, it was an agricultural society, 00:53:43.42\00:53:46.29 many of the people the way they would pay 00:53:46.29\00:53:47.99 tithe on their increase, 00:53:47.99\00:53:49.52 and there's a lot of verses on that. 00:53:49.52\00:53:51.13 You can read, Malachiases bring 00:53:51.13\00:53:52.26 all the tithe into my storehouse, 00:53:52.26\00:53:54.46 they'd bring their grain and so forth. 00:53:54.46\00:53:56.56 Clearly by the time of Christ, they were giving money. 00:53:56.56\00:53:59.47 You've got the widow that gave her two mites 00:53:59.47\00:54:01.40 when she came to the temple, and the priests would, 00:54:01.40\00:54:03.87 they'd cast their gold into the temple. 00:54:03.87\00:54:06.11 The Levites said that you could pay money, 00:54:06.11\00:54:09.01 they had temple shekel, 00:54:09.01\00:54:10.55 and even Deuteronomy talks about that 00:54:10.55\00:54:13.48 that people would pay. 00:54:13.48\00:54:14.98 The main idea was to support the priests, 00:54:15.88\00:54:17.95 so that they could continue to minister 00:54:17.95\00:54:19.79 to the people through the year. 00:54:19.79\00:54:21.62 And so they were to bring tithes, 00:54:21.62\00:54:23.12 whether it was the grain or the sheep or the agriculture, 00:54:23.12\00:54:25.99 or you could trade that in for money. 00:54:25.99\00:54:28.13 The thing was, they were to be supported of the increase. 00:54:28.13\00:54:31.57 We've got a lesson on that called, "In God We Trust." 00:54:31.57\00:54:34.77 We'll send you a free copy. 00:54:34.77\00:54:36.24 - [Jean] And the number to call for that is 800-835-6747. 00:54:36.24\00:54:39.87 Again, you can ask for the study guide, 00:54:39.87\00:54:41.44 it's called, "In God We Trust." 00:54:41.44\00:54:43.18 It's a pretty exhaustive study on the subject of tithing, 00:54:43.18\00:54:46.45 and what is the responsibility for a Christian. 00:54:46.45\00:54:48.85 So call and we'll be happy to send that to you. 00:54:48.85\00:54:50.69 - Amen. 00:54:50.69\00:54:52.15 Well, friends, this is about the fastest hour in the week. 00:54:52.15\00:54:53.96 It seems like we just build a momentum, 00:54:53.96\00:54:56.26 and the hour is gone. 00:54:56.26\00:54:58.09 We are coming back in just a moment 00:54:58.09\00:55:00.70 with another bonus Bible question, 00:55:00.70\00:55:02.70 but we've gotta sign-off with our friends 00:55:02.70\00:55:04.33 who are listening on satellite radio right now. 00:55:04.33\00:55:06.90 Otherwise stay tuned, we're coming back 00:55:06.90\00:55:08.30 with some internet Bible questions in just a moment. 00:55:08.30\00:55:11.74 (upbeat music) 00:55:12.67\00:55:15.18 - [Commentator] Thank you for listening 00:55:15.18\00:55:16.34 to today's broadcast. 00:55:16.34\00:55:17.81 We hope you understand your Bible even better than before. 00:55:17.81\00:55:21.55 Bible Answers Live is produced 00:55:21.55\00:55:23.39 by Amazing Facts International, 00:55:23.39\00:55:25.65 a faith-based ministry located in Granite Bay, California. 00:55:25.65\00:55:29.69 (upbeat music) 00:55:29.69\00:55:31.39 - Hello friends, welcome back 00:55:31.39\00:55:32.59 for our Bible Answers Live bonus question. 00:55:32.59\00:55:35.80 Now, again, if you have a Bible question, 00:55:35.80\00:55:38.07 and you'd like to send it to us, you can email us 00:55:38.07\00:55:40.44 by simply emailing your Bible question to 00:55:40.44\00:55:43.34 BALquestions@amazingfacts.org. 00:55:43.34\00:55:47.51 And we'll try to take as many of those 00:55:47.51\00:55:49.48 in this segment of the program. 00:55:49.48\00:55:51.18 Here we go, Pastor Doug, first question for tonight. 00:55:51.18\00:55:53.28 Are aliens real? 00:55:53.28\00:55:54.98 - Well, angels could be accused of being aliens. 00:55:56.08\00:55:58.99 And so, does God have life on other planet? 00:55:58.99\00:56:01.32 I believe yes. 00:56:01.32\00:56:03.06 Do angels visit our world? 00:56:03.06\00:56:04.59 Yes. 00:56:04.59\00:56:05.56 And we know they're good angels, 00:56:05.56\00:56:06.83 evil angels have been cast down to earth, 00:56:06.83\00:56:08.56 according to Revelation 12. 00:56:08.56\00:56:10.13 I don't think UFOs and ET are coming, 00:56:10.13\00:56:12.97 but I need to let our studio know... 00:56:12.97\00:56:14.54 Oh, he is doing okay. 00:56:14.54\00:56:15.90 I wanted to see how much time I've left on the clock. 00:56:15.90\00:56:17.14 (laughs) But no, the people that says, 00:56:17.14\00:56:20.11 I had a UFO, or I was captured by aliens, 00:56:20.11\00:56:22.24 and they did experiments on me, 00:56:22.24\00:56:23.35 I'm very dubious that that happened. 00:56:23.35\00:56:25.08 - Mm-hmm. 00:56:25.08\00:56:26.18 Okay, next question that we have, 00:56:26.18\00:56:27.52 we're gonna try and get to many as we can. 00:56:27.52\00:56:28.95 Do I have to go to church to be saved? 00:56:28.95\00:56:31.92 - Well, I think there'll be people in heaven 00:56:32.82\00:56:34.69 that didn't go to church 00:56:34.69\00:56:35.82 because the thief on the cross 00:56:35.82\00:56:37.66 was saved in the final hours of his life. 00:56:37.66\00:56:40.36 There are people who maybe are sick, 00:56:40.36\00:56:41.73 and they can't physically go to church, 00:56:41.73\00:56:43.23 or they're so far removed from a church they can't attend, 00:56:43.23\00:56:46.13 and that will not be an obstacle to their salvation. 00:56:46.13\00:56:49.14 But if a person loves the Lord, 00:56:49.14\00:56:51.27 and if Jesus said that church is His body, 00:56:51.27\00:56:53.17 and we learn to love the Lord by loving each other, 00:56:53.17\00:56:56.54 and if the church is the medium 00:56:56.54\00:56:58.18 through which God communicates the gospel with the world, 00:56:58.18\00:57:01.08 why would not a Christian want to go to church? 00:57:01.08\00:57:04.19 And so I'd wonder about, 00:57:04.19\00:57:05.95 if a person is committed to following the Bible. 00:57:05.95\00:57:08.26 He said in... 00:57:08.26\00:57:09.82 Especially after Covid, everyone's wondering, 00:57:09.82\00:57:11.86 do I have to go to church to be saved? 00:57:11.86\00:57:13.56 Friends, we need to start getting back into the habit, 00:57:13.56\00:57:16.73 as you know, your local laws allow. 00:57:16.73\00:57:19.73 Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. 00:57:19.73\00:57:22.80 And the Sabbath was called a holy convocation, 00:57:22.80\00:57:25.57 there's something that happens. 00:57:25.57\00:57:26.91 Jesus said, when you come together in My name. 00:57:26.91\00:57:29.11 We need to come together in the name of the Lord. 00:57:29.11\00:57:31.51 - And we can even sense it in our congregation, 00:57:31.51\00:57:33.98 in our experience, Pastor Doug, 00:57:33.98\00:57:35.32 when folks have been separated from each other 00:57:35.32\00:57:36.85 for an extended length of time. 00:57:36.85\00:57:38.55 Even though they might be watching online, 00:57:38.55\00:57:41.39 you begin to, I don't wanna say grow cold, 00:57:41.39\00:57:43.69 but your spiritual fervency can begin to diminish 00:57:43.69\00:57:48.30 if you're not inspired by others who believe the same thing, 00:57:48.30\00:57:51.20 who wanna worship God, where you sing together, 00:57:51.20\00:57:53.34 where you pray together. 00:57:53.34\00:57:54.77 It's needful for a Christian, we can't live by ourself. 00:57:54.77\00:57:57.21 - Yeah, I think it's real important to come together. 00:57:57.21\00:57:59.44 Friends, we wanna remind you this program exists entirely 00:57:59.44\00:58:02.84 because people like you believe in what's happening here. 00:58:02.84\00:58:06.51 We are 100% supported by supporters, 00:58:06.51\00:58:09.55 and so thank you so much. 00:58:09.55\00:58:10.85 You can just go to amazingfacts.org and donate, 00:58:10.85\00:58:14.99 keep us on the line. 00:58:14.99\00:58:15.99 God bless, we'll study next week. 00:58:15.99\00:58:17.86 (upbeat music) 00:58:17.86\00:58:18.96 - [Commentator] Bible Answers Live, 00:58:18.96\00:58:20.76 honest and accurate answers to your Bible questions. 00:58:20.76\00:58:24.70 (upbeat music) 00:58:24.70\00:58:26.70
