Please bow your heads with me as we pray. 00:00:31.26\00:00:33.33 Our beloved Heavenly Father, it's once again with reverence 00:00:33.36\00:00:40.24 that we come before Your throne, knowing that Your thoughts are 00:00:40.27\00:00:44.51 higher than our thoughts, knowing that we need divine 00:00:44.57\00:00:48.71 wisdom in order to understand the meaning in Your Holy Word 00:00:48.74\00:00:53.52 of what the wrath of God is. 00:00:53.55\00:00:58.09 We know You as a God of love. 00:00:58.12\00:01:00.52 How is it then that the Bible describes the wrath of the Lamb, 00:01:00.56\00:01:06.80 and the wrath that is in the cup? 00:01:06.83\00:01:10.47 I ask, Lord, that You will help us to understand this very 00:01:10.50\00:01:14.10 important subject today; that Your Holy Spirit will be with us 00:01:14.14\00:01:17.97 to instruct us, and to teach us. 00:01:18.01\00:01:20.28 And we thank You, Father, for the privilege of 00:01:20.31\00:01:23.61 approaching Your throne. 00:01:23.65\00:01:24.98 And thank You for hearing our prayer, for we ask it in the 00:01:25.01\00:01:28.55 precious name of Jesus, Amen. 00:01:28.58\00:01:31.52 Once in awhile when I travel, and preach on Bible prophecy, 00:01:31.55\00:01:40.50 I'll have somebody come up to me and say, Pastor, is it really 00:01:40.53\00:01:47.17 that important to know all this stuff? 00:01:47.20\00:01:50.07 Isn't it enough to just love Jesus, and leave the study of 00:01:50.11\00:01:56.31 the prophecies to the experts? 00:01:56.34\00:01:58.21 Well, we're going to notice this evening, that the third angel's 00:01:58.25\00:02:03.72 message contains one of the most dire warnings 00:02:03.75\00:02:07.26 in all of the Bible. 00:02:07.29\00:02:08.99 It's a warning so strong that it appears to be very different 00:02:09.02\00:02:14.73 than what we find in the gospels, for example. 00:02:14.76\00:02:18.30 In fact, the third angel's message tells us that whoever 00:02:18.33\00:02:24.91 worships the beast, or his image, or receives his mark, 00:02:24.94\00:02:29.78 or the number of his name, will suffer the unmitigated, 00:02:29.81\00:02:36.18 and unmixed wrath of God. 00:02:36.22\00:02:39.32 And for that reason it's vitally important for us to know who 00:02:39.35\00:02:44.16 the beast is, and what the image is, and what his mark is, 00:02:44.19\00:02:50.10 and what the number of his name is. 00:02:50.13\00:02:53.17 Because if we don't know who the beast is, or who the image 00:02:53.20\00:02:58.14 is, how are we ever going to protect 00:02:58.17\00:03:01.01 ourselves from this power? 00:03:01.04\00:03:03.55 In other words, it is vitally important for us to understand 00:03:03.58\00:03:08.72 these things, so that we don't end up worshipping the beast, 00:03:08.75\00:03:11.89 and his image, and receiving the mark of the beast, 00:03:11.92\00:03:14.36 and the number of his name. 00:03:14.39\00:03:16.99 I'd like to read the third angel's message as we find it 00:03:17.03\00:03:20.86 in Revelation 14:9-11, Revelation 14:9-11. 00:03:20.90\00:03:27.80 And in our study today we are going to only look at the first 00:03:27.84\00:03:33.11 half of the third angel's message. 00:03:33.14\00:03:35.21 And then in our next lecture we're going to discuss the issue 00:03:35.24\00:03:40.52 of the fire and the brimstone. 00:03:40.55\00:03:42.52 We'll touch upon it in our lecture today, 00:03:42.55\00:03:44.69 but we'll do a full study of it in our next lecture. 00:03:44.72\00:03:47.46 The third angel's message says this: Then a third angel 00:03:47.49\00:03:52.49 followed them... That is the first two angels, saying with a 00:03:52.53\00:03:55.83 loud voice, if anyone worships the beast and his image 00:03:55.86\00:04:00.10 and receives his mark on his forehead, or on his hand, 00:04:00.14\00:04:05.67 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, 00:04:05.71\00:04:12.38 which is poured out full strength into the cup 00:04:12.41\00:04:17.25 of his indignation. 00:04:17.29\00:04:18.75 Now this is the portion that we're going to study today. 00:04:18.79\00:04:22.79 The rest of the verse we're going to take a look at 00:04:22.82\00:04:25.59 in our next lecture. 00:04:25.63\00:04:27.60 I'm going to read it. 00:04:27.63\00:04:28.96 He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence 00:04:29.00\00:04:34.64 of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. 00:04:34.67\00:04:37.97 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever. 00:04:38.01\00:04:42.44 And they have no rest day or night who worship the beast 00:04:42.48\00:04:47.72 and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name. 00:04:47.75\00:04:53.46 You tell me, is it important for us to know who the beast is? 00:04:53.49\00:04:58.19 Absolutely! Is it vital for us to know what the image 00:04:58.23\00:05:03.87 to the beast is? Absolutely, because if we don't know 00:05:03.90\00:05:07.27 we probably will end up worshipping these powers. 00:05:07.30\00:05:12.64 Now I'd like to take you, just for a moment, to an event that 00:05:12.67\00:05:20.12 is going to take place after the millennium. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.78 And a little later on in this lecture we're going to come 00:05:22.82\00:05:25.22 back to this point. 00:05:25.25\00:05:26.59 But I want to introduce our subject by referring to an event 00:05:26.62\00:05:31.29 that will take place after the millennium. 00:05:31.33\00:05:33.36 You see, folks, after the thousand years there will 00:05:33.40\00:05:37.13 only be two groups. 00:05:37.17\00:05:38.50 One group will be the saved. 00:05:38.53\00:05:41.74 They are in the holy city. 00:05:41.77\00:05:43.74 Outside the holy city are the lost. 00:05:43.77\00:05:47.08 Not three groups, but two groups. 00:05:47.11\00:05:50.35 The saved in the city, and the lost outside the city. 00:05:50.38\00:05:54.38 Now let me ask you this question, Those people who are 00:05:54.42\00:06:00.19 in the city, were they sinners? 00:06:00.22\00:06:03.19 Of course they were sinners. 00:06:03.22\00:06:06.09 Those outside the city; were they sinners? Sure. 00:06:06.13\00:06:12.27 In other words, you have sinners outside, 00:06:12.30\00:06:14.37 and you have sinners inside. 00:06:14.40\00:06:15.74 And so my question is, What made the difference between 00:06:15.77\00:06:20.54 the sinners inside, and the sinners outside? 00:06:20.58\00:06:23.68 Does God show partiality towards some, 00:06:23.71\00:06:28.12 while He doesn't favor others? 00:06:28.15\00:06:29.98 Why are the saved in the city, and why are the 00:06:30.02\00:06:34.02 wicked outside the city? 00:06:34.06\00:06:36.56 I'd like to read this verse: Revelation 22, actually two 00:06:36.59\00:06:40.36 verses, Revelation 22:14, 15, where these two 00:06:40.40\00:06:45.87 groups are spoken of. 00:06:45.90\00:06:47.44 It says there, (And I'm reading from the New King James 00:06:47.47\00:06:51.01 Version, which is the version that we've been 00:06:51.04\00:06:52.67 using in our seminar.) 00:06:52.71\00:06:54.04 So there you have one group that do the commandments; 00:07:05.82\00:07:08.82 other the versions say, wash their robes. 00:07:08.86\00:07:11.19 They are inside the holy city, and they have the right 00:07:11.23\00:07:14.66 to eat from the tree of life. 00:07:14.70\00:07:16.36 But then you have another group: verse 15. 00:07:16.40\00:07:19.17 And so you have two groups: one inside the city, 00:07:35.68\00:07:40.56 and the other outside the city. 00:07:40.59\00:07:42.79 Inside are those who keep God's commandments, 00:07:42.82\00:07:45.59 or washed their robes; outside the city you have those who 00:07:45.63\00:07:49.73 disobey God's holy commandments. 00:07:49.76\00:07:53.40 Because the list of things in verse 15 are things that violate 00:07:53.44\00:07:58.04 principles that we find in the ten commandments. 00:07:58.07\00:08:02.64 Now today we're going to talk about wrath of God that will 00:08:02.68\00:08:06.72 fall upon the wicked that will eventually be 00:08:06.75\00:08:09.42 outside the holy city. 00:08:09.45\00:08:11.45 And I'd like to invite you to turn in your Bibles with me to 00:08:11.49\00:08:15.06 Revelation 15:1, and you're going to see why I started this 00:08:15.09\00:08:20.36 lecture by referring to the two groups: two groups of sinners, 00:08:20.40\00:08:23.90 one saved group of sinners, and one lost group of sinners. 00:08:23.93\00:08:27.94 What made the difference? 00:08:27.97\00:08:29.30 Well, we just read that those inside keep the commandments, 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.47 or they washed their robes. 00:08:32.51\00:08:33.84 Those outside practiced these evil deeds in violation 00:08:33.88\00:08:37.31 of God's commandments. 00:08:37.35\00:08:38.68 But there's more to the story than this, because we're not 00:08:38.71\00:08:40.75 saved by keeping God's commandments. 00:08:40.78\00:08:42.98 Keeping God's commandments, we'll see, 00:08:43.02\00:08:44.82 is a fruit of something else; of a relationship 00:08:44.85\00:08:49.36 with Jesus Christ. 00:08:49.39\00:08:50.73 Revelation 15:1. Here we find a description of the wrath of 00:08:50.76\00:08:56.16 God that is going to be poured out upon the world shortly 00:08:56.20\00:09:00.60 before the second coming of Jesus. It says there: 00:09:00.64\00:09:04.04 The word complete in the Greek is full. 00:09:20.76\00:09:23.22 In other words, the seven last plagues are the fullness of the 00:09:23.26\00:09:28.60 revelation of God's wrath. 00:09:28.63\00:09:31.93 And we're going to notice in the third angel's message that it 00:09:31.97\00:09:34.40 says that the wrath of God is poured out without mixture. 00:09:34.44\00:09:39.11 You see, at this point there's no blending of mercy in. 00:09:39.14\00:09:43.61 It's pure justice when God's wrath is revealed. 00:09:43.65\00:09:48.92 So what I want you to notice here in Revelation 15:1 00:09:48.95\00:09:51.72 is that the plagues contain the wrath of God, 00:09:51.75\00:09:56.83 which is poured out without mixture, 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.86 or totally and completely. 00:09:59.89\00:10:01.76 Now let's go to Revelation 16:1, Revelation 16:1. 00:10:01.80\00:10:07.77 The question is, where is this wrath of God contained? 00:10:07.80\00:10:12.47 What is the container of the wrath of God? 00:10:12.51\00:10:15.04 Well, notice Revelation 16:1. 00:10:15.08\00:10:18.71 That's important. 00:10:28.42\00:10:31.43 By the way, it's the word cups. 00:10:36.40\00:10:38.87 It's the same word that's used in the gospels that translate 00:10:38.90\00:10:43.61 cup. That's important. And so it says: 00:10:43.64\00:10:47.58 What is it that contains the wrath of God? cups. 00:10:54.02\00:10:59.39 You say, That's a strange place; to have 00:10:59.42\00:11:02.46 the wrath of God in cups, in seven bowls. 00:11:02.49\00:11:06.63 By the way, the number seven represents 00:11:06.66\00:11:08.56 totality and completeness. 00:11:08.60\00:11:10.47 This is the total manifestation of the wrath of God. 00:11:10.50\00:11:15.30 But now I want you to notice the third angel's message once again 00:11:15.34\00:11:20.21 with which we began our lecture. 00:11:20.24\00:11:22.34 Revelation 14:9, 10. 00:11:22.38\00:11:25.51 We've noticed that the seven last plagues are the 00:11:25.55\00:11:28.42 outpouring of God's wrath, and this wrath is found in cups. 00:11:28.45\00:11:32.69 And it's the totality of God's wrath. 00:11:32.72\00:11:35.19 But now I want you to notice that the wicked have to do 00:11:35.22\00:11:38.13 something with that wine that's in the cups. 00:11:38.16\00:11:40.36 It says there in Revelation 14: 9, Then a third angel followed 00:11:40.40\00:11:46.27 them saying with a loud voice, If anyone worships the beast 00:11:46.30\00:11:50.84 and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead, 00:11:50.87\00:11:54.84 or on his hand, he himself shall also... 00:11:54.88\00:11:58.41 Now notice an added idea here. 00:11:58.45\00:12:00.98 So the cup contains what? 00:12:08.29\00:12:12.39 It contains wine. And the wine is God's what? is God's wrath. 00:12:12.43\00:12:16.67 And the wicked must drink it, according to this. 00:12:16.70\00:12:20.67 Remember these concepts, because we're going to 00:12:20.70\00:12:22.34 come back to them. Verse 10. 00:12:22.37\00:12:24.64 Without mixture, in other words. 00:12:34.62\00:12:36.79 So are you catching the picture here? 00:12:41.89\00:12:44.63 What does the cup contain? the wrath of God. 00:12:44.66\00:12:49.93 And the wrath of God has to be what by the wicked? 00:12:49.96\00:12:53.34 The wicked have to drink the wrath of God. 00:12:53.37\00:12:57.21 Now I must tell you that the wrath of God does not come 00:12:57.24\00:13:02.14 to an end until the wicked are destroyed after the millennium. 00:13:02.18\00:13:06.82 In other words, the seven bowls, the seven plagues, 00:13:06.85\00:13:10.99 are a fullness of the manifestation of the wrath 00:13:11.02\00:13:13.96 of God, but that wrath is finally terminated with the 00:13:13.99\00:13:18.39 destruction of the wicked after the millennium. 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.70 And you say, How do we know that? 00:13:20.73\00:13:22.06 Because in the third angel's message it speaks about fire 00:13:22.10\00:13:26.07 and brimstone falling from God out of heaven, 00:13:26.10\00:13:29.24 and that is the final manifestation 00:13:29.27\00:13:32.54 of the wrath of God. 00:13:32.57\00:13:33.91 So the plagues, we might say, are the first installment of the 00:13:33.94\00:13:37.85 fullness of the wrath of God, and it culminates eventually 00:13:37.88\00:13:41.68 in the destruction of the wicked by fire after the millennium. 00:13:41.72\00:13:45.35 Because the third angel's message, as we read, 00:13:45.39\00:13:48.29 speaks about fire and brimstone falling 00:13:48.32\00:13:51.46 from heaven upon the wicked. 00:13:51.49\00:13:54.10 Now let's go to Psalm 11:6, Psalm 11:6. 00:13:54.13\00:14:00.70 I want to show you that there's a connection between the cup 00:14:00.74\00:14:04.61 and the pouring out of fire. 00:14:04.64\00:14:07.11 And, by the way, we're going to discuss this more fully 00:14:07.14\00:14:09.71 in our next lecture. 00:14:09.74\00:14:11.08 We're going to talk about the fire and brimstone, 00:14:11.11\00:14:12.98 and burning forever and ever, etcetera, which has been greatly 00:14:13.01\00:14:16.65 misunderstood by the Christian world. 00:14:16.69\00:14:18.89 Psalm 11:6, notice this: 00:14:18.95\00:14:22.36 So let me ask you, Does the cup contain fire and brimstone? 00:14:40.51\00:14:44.31 It most certainly does. 00:14:44.35\00:14:46.08 Now, we must understand then that the seven last plagues 00:14:46.11\00:14:49.78 are the fullness of the manifestation of the wrath 00:14:49.82\00:14:52.15 of God, which means without any mixture of mercy. 00:14:52.19\00:14:54.79 But the last stage of the outpouring of the wrath of God 00:14:54.82\00:14:58.36 takes place after the thousand years, when fire and brimstone 00:14:58.39\00:15:02.13 destroys the wicked. 00:15:02.16\00:15:03.67 That is the final manifestation of the wrath of God. 00:15:03.70\00:15:07.00 Notice Deuteronomy 32:22, Deuteronomy 32:22. 00:15:07.04\00:15:14.98 In scripture the wrath of God is linked with fire. 00:15:15.01\00:15:20.55 And even today we use metaphors. 00:15:20.58\00:15:26.69 We use expressions that connect wrath with warmth, 00:15:26.72\00:15:33.36 or with something that's hot. 00:15:33.40\00:15:34.73 For example we say, That guy's got a hot temper. 00:15:34.76\00:15:38.27 Or we say his temper flared up. 00:15:38.30\00:15:42.00 Or we say he's hot headed. 00:15:42.04\00:15:45.27 Or when we get angry we say, That burns me up! 00:15:45.31\00:15:49.58 In other words, the wrath of God is linked with the idea of fire. 00:15:49.61\00:15:55.22 But let me explain something. 00:15:55.25\00:15:56.58 The wrath of God is not like our anger or our wrath. 00:15:56.62\00:16:00.59 You know, we get angry over things because our precious 00:16:00.62\00:16:03.79 little self is offended. 00:16:03.83\00:16:05.56 But with God the wrath of God is the fact that God, 00:16:05.59\00:16:09.93 and His holiness cannot co-exist with sin. 00:16:09.96\00:16:13.50 Righteousness and holiness cannot be in the 00:16:13.54\00:16:16.71 same room with sin. 00:16:16.74\00:16:18.07 And, therefore, the wrath of God is the outpouring of 00:16:18.11\00:16:22.28 the punishment of God upon those who reject Jesus Christ as their 00:16:22.31\00:16:27.58 Savior and Lord, because they chose to hang onto sin. 00:16:27.62\00:16:30.72 And God and sin cannot co-exist, because God is a Holy God. 00:16:30.75\00:16:35.69 It's kind of like Jesus; do you remember He was in the temple 00:16:35.72\00:16:38.79 one time, and there were some people that were accusing 00:16:38.83\00:16:43.13 Him of Sabbath breaking, because He healed a man 00:16:43.16\00:16:45.43 with a withered hand? 00:16:45.47\00:16:47.20 You might remember that. 00:16:47.24\00:16:48.57 It's Mark 3:1-6. The only time in the New Testament where we 00:16:48.60\00:16:53.78 find the word anger connected with Jesus is in that story. 00:16:53.81\00:16:58.11 When He saw the hardness of their hearts, the Bible says 00:16:58.15\00:17:02.42 that He was angry. 00:17:02.45\00:17:03.92 Now is that the same kind of anger that we have? 00:17:03.95\00:17:06.32 Absolutely not! It's what we call righteous indignation. 00:17:06.35\00:17:11.19 In other words, when somebody's doing something that is totally 00:17:11.23\00:17:15.10 contrary to what we know is right, and true, and good, 00:17:15.13\00:17:19.13 we're filled with righteous indignation. 00:17:19.17\00:17:21.27 That is the sense in which the wrath of God 00:17:21.30\00:17:25.37 is to be understood. 00:17:25.41\00:17:26.81 Now notice Deuteronomy 32:22. 00:17:26.84\00:17:30.35 Sounds kind of strange for God, doesn't it? 00:17:35.35\00:17:38.49 So God's wrath has to do with fire, once again. 00:17:41.26\00:17:44.06 Once again, Is the wrath of God connected with fire? 00:17:55.50\00:17:58.74 It most certainly is. 00:17:58.77\00:18:00.44 That is the final stage of the manifestation 00:18:00.48\00:18:03.65 of the wrath of God. 00:18:03.68\00:18:05.28 And, by the way, do you know that the final thing that has to 00:18:05.31\00:18:11.45 do with the wrath of God, is what the Bible 00:18:11.49\00:18:14.52 calls the second death. 00:18:14.56\00:18:16.96 Go with me to Revelation 20:14, 15, Revelation 20:14, 15. 00:18:16.99\00:18:25.90 The lake of fire where there is brimstone and fire is the final 00:18:25.93\00:18:31.34 manifestation and fulfillment of the third angel's message. 00:18:31.37\00:18:34.34 Notice what it says there. 00:18:34.38\00:18:36.21 This is after the millennium. 00:18:36.24\00:18:37.95 So what is the final manifestation 00:18:50.23\00:18:53.86 of the wrath of God? 00:18:53.90\00:18:55.23 It is called what? the second death in the lake of fire. 00:18:55.26\00:18:59.10 And anyone not found written in the book of life was cast where? 00:18:59.13\00:19:06.07 was cast into the lake of fire. 00:19:06.11\00:19:09.48 Now we need to ask ourselves the question, Why will the 00:19:09.51\00:19:15.02 wicked suffer such a terrible manifestation 00:19:15.05\00:19:19.45 of the wrath of God? 00:19:19.49\00:19:20.82 For how many people did Jesus die? 00:19:20.86\00:19:23.93 Did Jesus die only for those who are found finally 00:19:23.96\00:19:28.23 inside the Holy City? Absolutely not! 00:19:28.26\00:19:30.67 Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. 00:19:30.70\00:19:33.50 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:19:33.54\00:19:37.44 He's the propitiation not only for our sins, but for the sins 00:19:37.47\00:19:41.08 of the whole world. 00:19:41.11\00:19:42.44 So did Jesus die to save all of the people that are also outside 00:19:42.48\00:19:47.48 the Holy City? Absolutely! 00:19:47.52\00:19:49.32 The question is, Why weren't they saved? 00:19:49.35\00:19:52.32 Why were those inside saved, whereas those 00:19:52.35\00:19:55.96 outside were not saved? 00:19:55.99\00:19:57.76 In order to understand this, we have to go back and analyze 00:19:57.79\00:20:02.56 the experience of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. 00:20:02.60\00:20:06.50 Because much of the terminology that we've noticed 00:20:06.53\00:20:10.41 at the beginning of our study today is used in connection 00:20:10.44\00:20:14.28 with the passion of Christ. 00:20:14.31\00:20:15.84 A few years ago, probably all of you will remember, 00:20:15.88\00:20:21.58 Mel Gibson came out with his movie, 00:20:21.62\00:20:23.69 The Passion of the Christ. 00:20:23.72\00:20:25.25 You know, it brought in hundreds of millions of dollars. 00:20:25.29\00:20:30.03 And those who saw it say that the movie majored in the brutal 00:20:30.06\00:20:36.80 physical punishment that was meted out upon Jesus Christ. 00:20:36.83\00:20:41.20 I mean savagely beaten, time, after time, after time, 00:20:41.24\00:20:45.71 until the blood just was in pools on the ground. 00:20:45.74\00:20:49.64 In other words, that movie emphasized the tremendous 00:20:49.68\00:20:53.45 physical sufferings of Jesus, the physical agony. 00:20:53.48\00:20:56.99 But do you know what? it was not the physical agony of Jesus 00:20:57.02\00:21:01.96 that caused Him the greatest pain. 00:21:01.99\00:21:03.73 In fact, I believe that Jesus Christ could hardly feel the 00:21:03.76\00:21:08.53 physical pain, because of the spiritual anguish 00:21:08.56\00:21:12.03 that He was suffering. 00:21:12.07\00:21:13.40 And you say, What do you mean by the spiritual anguish? 00:21:13.44\00:21:16.74 Well, let's study about it in the gospels. 00:21:16.77\00:21:19.14 Matthew 26:38, Matthew 26:38. 00:21:19.17\00:21:25.21 Here Jesus is with His disciples there in the 00:21:25.25\00:21:28.95 garden of Gethsemane, and Jesus says to His disciples 00:21:28.98\00:21:32.82 the following words: 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.39 Notice, not only sorrowful is His soul, 00:21:42.56\00:21:46.57 but exceedingly sorrowful. He says: 00:21:46.60\00:21:49.60 In other words, He had so much sorrow that apparently it was 00:21:53.51\00:21:58.11 going to cause His what? His death. 00:21:58.15\00:22:00.55 And so He says to the disciples, Stay here and watch with Me. 00:22:00.58\00:22:04.72 And what do they do? They go to sleep. 00:22:04.75\00:22:07.49 And later on what do they do? 00:22:07.52\00:22:09.82 They all forsake Him. 00:22:09.86\00:22:12.73 And so Jesus is by Himself. 00:22:12.76\00:22:15.50 Now there's a book that I love. 00:22:15.53\00:22:18.93 Some of you probably have heard about it, if not most of you. 00:22:18.97\00:22:23.00 It's the book, The Desire of Ages. 00:22:23.04\00:22:25.67 There are two chapters in this book that I 00:22:25.71\00:22:28.48 would like to recommend. 00:22:28.51\00:22:29.84 You know, there's no way that you can read these chapters 00:22:29.88\00:22:32.81 and not have your eyes tear up. 00:22:32.85\00:22:36.79 One of those chapters is titled Gethsemane, and the other one 00:22:36.82\00:22:41.12 is titled Calvary. 00:22:41.16\00:22:42.82 You know, this book is the most loved biography of Christ 00:22:42.86\00:22:48.13 in the Library of Congress. 00:22:48.16\00:22:49.50 They did a survey a few years ago. 00:22:49.53\00:22:51.07 They discovered that over and above, The Desire of Ages, 00:22:51.10\00:22:54.70 was the favorite book on the life of Jesus Christ. 00:22:54.74\00:22:58.81 On Page 685 we find this remarkable statement about 00:22:58.84\00:23:05.11 Jesus and this intense sorrow that He felt. 00:23:05.15\00:23:09.28 That is Jesus. 00:23:16.86\00:23:18.19 Why hadn't the Father left Him alone? because Jesus always did 00:23:28.57\00:23:33.58 what? what pleased the Father. 00:23:33.61\00:23:36.14 And then she remarks: 00:23:36.18\00:23:38.91 Why was Jesus sorrowful? 00:24:33.10\00:24:34.97 Because He sensed the wrath of God falling upon Him. 00:24:35.00\00:24:42.21 Notice Matthew 26. 00:24:42.24\00:24:44.68 We'll read verses 39, 42, and 44. 00:24:44.71\00:24:48.42 Jesus is in the garden, and He's kneeling, 00:24:48.45\00:24:52.95 and He's praying to His Father. 00:24:52.99\00:24:55.62 He's pleading with His Father. 00:24:55.66\00:24:57.23 By the way, this is before anybody even 00:24:57.26\00:24:59.46 laid one finger on Him. 00:24:59.49\00:25:01.53 Notice Matthew 26:39. 00:25:01.56\00:25:05.73 Now don't miss this point. 00:25:16.48\00:25:18.01 Notice what we find in verse 42. 00:25:32.56\00:25:36.36 Now you're going to have an added element. 00:25:42.87\00:25:45.27 Do you have the same elements that we found 00:25:55.32\00:25:57.62 in the third angel's message? Absolutely. 00:25:57.65\00:26:00.66 And in the outpouring of the seven last plagues? Yes. 00:26:00.69\00:26:04.39 So He says, 00:26:04.43\00:26:05.89 And verse 44 says: 00:26:13.34\00:26:15.07 Let me ask you, Who gave Jesus that cup to drink? 00:26:22.78\00:26:28.18 In Revelation it says that the cup contains the wrath of whom? 00:26:30.29\00:26:34.69 The wrath of God. The question is, who gave that cup 00:26:34.72\00:26:39.26 that Jesus needed to drink? 00:26:39.29\00:26:41.36 Notice John 18:11, John 18:11. 00:26:41.40\00:26:47.40 This is when Peter took out his sword and cut off 00:26:47.44\00:26:49.87 the servant's ear. 00:26:49.90\00:26:51.24 Who gave Jesus the cup? His Father gave Him the cup. 00:27:03.05\00:27:07.99 You say, That's impossible, Pastor Bohr. 00:27:08.02\00:27:10.09 Do you mean to say that the cup that contained the wine 00:27:10.13\00:27:14.30 of God's wrath; Jesus had to drink that cup, and it was given 00:27:14.33\00:27:19.03 to him by His very own Father? 00:27:19.07\00:27:21.84 That's what Scripture says. 00:27:21.87\00:27:24.54 No wonder when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane an angel 00:27:24.57\00:27:29.88 had to come and strengthen Jesus or else He probably would have 00:27:29.91\00:27:33.38 died because He said, My soul is sorrowful, even unto death. 00:27:33.42\00:27:37.09 Let's read about it in Luke 22: 43, 44, Luke 22:43, 44. 00:27:37.12\00:27:45.79 It says there: Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, 00:27:45.83\00:27:50.67 strengthening Him. 00:27:50.70\00:27:52.47 How many of you have ever seen anybody sweat blood? 00:28:09.38\00:28:12.65 How much agony must you have? 00:28:12.69\00:28:16.56 How much suffering must you have in order to sweat 00:28:16.59\00:28:20.13 blood instead of water? 00:28:20.16\00:28:22.13 And listen, folks, this is before one single person 00:28:22.16\00:28:26.17 laid a finger on Jesus Christ. 00:28:26.20\00:28:27.94 He's already sweating blood. 00:28:27.97\00:28:30.57 He's already suffering agony long before anybody came 00:28:30.61\00:28:35.51 and started beating Him. 00:28:35.54\00:28:36.98 In other words, His agony was not agony of body; His agony was 00:28:37.01\00:28:41.68 primarily agony of soul. 00:28:41.72\00:28:43.52 In the book, God's Amazing Grace, Page 168, 00:28:43.55\00:28:47.09 we find this statement: 00:28:47.12\00:28:48.46 He would have died in the garden without anyone laying 00:29:00.70\00:29:04.51 one finger upon Him. 00:29:04.54\00:29:06.84 In other words, the agony of Jesus did not have to do 00:29:06.88\00:29:11.15 with the crown of thorns, and with the beating on His back, 00:29:11.18\00:29:14.62 and with all of His physical suffering. 00:29:14.65\00:29:16.95 It had to do with extreme spiritual anguish. 00:29:16.99\00:29:21.39 Because His Father had given Him the cup of His wrath, 00:29:21.42\00:29:24.69 and Jesus had to drink this cup. 00:29:24.73\00:29:27.13 You know, we catch a glimpse into the feelings of Jesus 00:29:27.16\00:29:31.93 in a prophecy that was given about a thousand years before 00:29:31.97\00:29:36.50 Jesus was even born. 00:29:36.54\00:29:38.01 Psalm 22:1, 2. In fact we have the very words that Jesus 00:29:38.04\00:29:43.45 spoke on the cross. 00:29:43.48\00:29:44.81 He says, I cry out and You don't listen. 00:30:05.87\00:30:08.20 Why, Father, have You forsaken Me? 00:30:08.24\00:30:10.71 Do you know why? because Jesus was drinking the cup 00:30:10.74\00:30:14.28 of the wrath of God. 00:30:14.31\00:30:16.11 Because Jesus, as we'll notice, was bearing the sins 00:30:16.14\00:30:20.78 of the whole world upon Himself. 00:30:20.82\00:30:23.08 I'd like to read another couple of statements from this 00:30:23.12\00:30:26.59 magnificent book, The Desire of Ages, 00:30:26.62\00:30:28.86 from the chapter on Gethsemane. 00:30:28.89\00:30:30.89 Notice this statement. 00:30:30.93\00:30:33.23 This is found on Page 686. 00:30:33.26\00:30:36.67 On Page 686, the same page, it says: 00:31:10.37\00:31:14.97 You know, Jesus interceded for other people 00:31:27.15\00:31:29.38 all during His ministry. 00:31:29.42\00:31:30.75 But now the author says: 00:31:30.79\00:31:32.49 Nobody to intercede before the Father for Him, because He was 00:31:37.66\00:31:41.70 bearing the sin of the world. 00:31:41.73\00:31:43.40 I want to read just one final statement. 00:31:43.43\00:31:45.97 This is found on Page... 00:31:46.00\00:31:47.94 Let me just find it here. 00:31:47.97\00:31:50.37 ...693 of The Desire of ages. It says: 00:31:50.41\00:31:53.01 See the reference to the cup? 00:32:22.54\00:32:24.17 Many years later the apostle Paul wrote in the book of 00:32:35.25\00:32:42.42 Hebrews about the anguish of Jesus 00:32:42.46\00:32:44.79 in the garden of Gethsemane. 00:32:44.83\00:32:46.16 It's found in Hebrews 5:7, Hebrews 5:7. It says: 00:32:46.19\00:32:52.90 Notice the expressions: prayers, supplications, 00:33:11.52\00:33:13.92 vehement cries, tears. 00:33:13.96\00:33:16.46 It speaks about the anguish that Jesus felt 00:33:16.49\00:33:19.59 in the garden of Gethsemane as He was drinking the cup 00:33:19.63\00:33:23.33 of the wrath of His own Father. 00:33:23.37\00:33:24.97 You know what made it especially difficult for Jesus is the fact 00:33:25.00\00:33:29.37 that all during His ministry He had felt an intimate 00:33:29.40\00:33:32.17 closeness with His Father. 00:33:32.21\00:33:33.58 As it says in John 8:29, Jesus spoke these 00:33:33.61\00:33:38.51 words during His ministry. He said: 00:33:38.55\00:33:40.38 He says, I'm not alone. 00:33:49.92\00:33:51.26 My Father is always with Me because I do what pleases Him. 00:33:51.29\00:33:54.53 But now, in the agony of Gethsemane, Jesus is saying, 00:33:54.56\00:33:58.80 My Father has left Me alone. 00:33:58.83\00:34:00.67 My God, My God, Why has Thou forsaken Me? 00:34:00.70\00:34:04.77 And, of course, the question comes, Why was Jesus 00:34:04.81\00:34:08.18 drinking the cup of the wrath of God? 00:34:08.21\00:34:11.31 Folks, it was because Jesus was suffering the just punishment 00:34:11.35\00:34:19.62 that all of us deserve. 00:34:19.65\00:34:22.26 I want to read several statements from Scripture 00:34:22.29\00:34:24.89 where this fact is brought out, that the cup that Jesus drank, 00:34:24.93\00:34:29.53 the cup of the wrath of God, of His Father, 00:34:29.56\00:34:32.10 the justice of His Father actually means that Jesus 00:34:32.13\00:34:36.10 was bearing the sins of the whole world upon His shoulders. 00:34:36.14\00:34:39.94 Notice Galatians 3:13, Galatians 3:13. 00:34:39.97\00:34:45.08 Let me ask you, Is the law bad? 00:34:49.78\00:34:52.45 Many Christians think that the law is bad, even though the 00:34:52.49\00:34:56.73 apostle Paul said that the law is holy, and just, and what? 00:34:56.76\00:34:59.83 holy, and just, and good. 00:34:59.86\00:35:01.50 Who's bad? we are. 00:35:01.53\00:35:05.07 Why does the law curse us? because we're sinners. 00:35:05.10\00:35:09.00 The law says, If you live in harmony 00:35:09.04\00:35:12.44 with My principles, I bless you. 00:35:12.47\00:35:14.11 If you violate My principles, the curse will fall upon you. 00:35:14.14\00:35:19.25 The law is not bad; it's sin that is bad. 00:35:19.28\00:35:23.32 And so it says, Christ has redeemed us 00:35:23.35\00:35:26.65 from the curse of the law. 00:35:26.69\00:35:28.46 How did Jesus do this? 00:35:28.49\00:35:29.82 How did He redeem the world from the curse of the law? 00:35:29.86\00:35:33.26 It says, Having become a what? having become a curse for us, 00:35:33.29\00:35:40.17 for it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. 00:35:40.20\00:35:44.11 Do you know where that expression, 00:35:44.14\00:35:45.97 that phrase comes from? cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree? 00:35:46.01\00:35:49.64 It actually comes from Deuteronomy 21:22, 23. 00:35:49.68\00:35:53.82 And I'm just going to mention this. 00:35:53.85\00:35:55.22 It's not in your list of texts. 00:35:55.25\00:35:56.72 You know, the enemies of Israel, when they were captured, 00:35:56.75\00:36:00.99 they were slain, and they were hung on trees outside 00:36:01.02\00:36:08.16 the encampment of Israel. 00:36:08.20\00:36:10.37 And they were considered cursed and forsaken by God. 00:36:10.40\00:36:14.20 And after they were dead, actually they were taken down 00:36:14.24\00:36:18.61 from the... They weren't crosses, 00:36:18.64\00:36:21.28 they were actually stakes of wood. 00:36:21.31\00:36:23.81 They were taken down at sundown, and they were placed in a cave, 00:36:23.85\00:36:28.58 and stones were placed at the entrance to the cave. 00:36:28.62\00:36:31.65 Now does that sound familiar? 00:36:31.69\00:36:33.59 Let me ask you, Jesus Christ, was He looked 00:36:33.62\00:36:38.83 upon as cursed by God? 00:36:38.86\00:36:40.90 Absolutely He was. 00:36:40.93\00:36:42.70 When was His body removed from the cross? 00:36:42.73\00:36:45.10 Right around when the sun was going to what? to set. 00:36:45.13\00:36:50.64 And He was hung where? 00:36:50.67\00:36:52.37 He was hung on a tree. 00:36:52.41\00:36:55.21 And where was He buried? 00:36:55.24\00:36:56.71 He was placed in a cave. 00:36:56.75\00:36:59.35 And what was placed in front of the entrance to the cave? 00:36:59.38\00:37:02.98 A stone was placed by the entrance. 00:37:03.02\00:37:06.09 In other words, this punishment was the punishment 00:37:06.12\00:37:09.12 for the worst sinners against Israel. 00:37:09.16\00:37:12.09 And Jesus suffered the worst kind of humiliation, 00:37:12.13\00:37:16.53 and punishment for the human race, because He bore the sin 00:37:16.56\00:37:20.04 of the whole world. 00:37:20.07\00:37:21.40 You know, there are people in the world today who have 00:37:21.44\00:37:24.67 committed... Actually they don't live today, but they lived 00:37:24.71\00:37:27.34 in the world, and they committed suicide because 00:37:27.38\00:37:30.38 they had such a guilty conscience. 00:37:30.41\00:37:32.41 Now can you imagine what it would be like to bear 00:37:32.45\00:37:37.59 upon yourself the guilt of every sin that has been committed, 00:37:37.62\00:37:42.96 is being committed, or will be committed in human history? 00:37:42.99\00:37:47.63 Actually, that is what crushed out the life of Jesus. 00:37:47.66\00:37:52.50 That's what broke His heart. 00:37:52.53\00:37:54.74 Jesus did not die of the wounds that He received. 00:37:54.77\00:37:58.87 Even the soldier was surprised when he came. 00:37:58.91\00:38:01.18 The centurion came and found Him dead, 00:38:01.21\00:38:03.38 and he thrust a spear through His side. 00:38:03.41\00:38:05.45 He was surprised that He wasn't dead, 00:38:05.48\00:38:07.85 because the thieves were still alive. 00:38:07.88\00:38:09.58 Because Jesus did not die from His physical wounds, 00:38:09.62\00:38:13.66 Jesus died of a broken heart, because His Father, 00:38:13.69\00:38:18.49 at least He felt, had forsaken Him. 00:38:18.53\00:38:21.63 He could not see the reconciling face of His Father, 00:38:21.66\00:38:24.27 because He was bearing the guilt of the whole human race. 00:38:24.30\00:38:27.67 Notice 2 Corinthians 5:21, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says: 00:38:27.70\00:38:34.54 That is talking about God the Father. 00:38:35.58\00:38:37.28 That is God the Father made Jesus... 00:38:39.35\00:38:42.18 Who made Jesus sin? 00:38:51.66\00:38:53.63 God the Father made Jesus sin that we might be found what? 00:38:53.66\00:38:58.97 that we might be found the righteousness of God in Him. 00:38:59.00\00:39:03.00 I want you also to notice the following statement that we 00:39:03.04\00:39:07.98 find in Isaiah 53:4-6. 00:39:08.01\00:39:11.41 You know, it describes vividly why Jesus was suffering 00:39:11.45\00:39:15.72 this intense agony; what it meant that He was drinking 00:39:15.75\00:39:18.12 the cup of God's wrath. 00:39:18.15\00:39:19.49 It says there: Surely He has borne our grief's, 00:39:19.52\00:39:24.39 and carried our sorrows: yet we esteemed Him stricken, 00:39:24.43\00:39:30.53 smitten by whom? by God. 00:39:30.57\00:39:34.67 Who smote Jesus? His own Father. 00:39:34.70\00:39:38.07 You say, Why is that? 00:39:38.11\00:39:39.64 Why did He get the cup of His Father's wrath? 00:39:39.67\00:39:42.61 He was holy, and righteous. 00:39:42.64\00:39:44.11 He always did what pleased His Father. 00:39:44.15\00:39:46.41 Why did that happen to Jesus? 00:39:46.45\00:39:48.18 Because Jesus was taking our place. Notice: 00:39:48.22\00:39:54.32 And now notice the last part of verse 6: 00:40:17.91\00:40:20.35 Who put on Jesus the iniquity? the Father did. 00:40:26.02\00:40:29.82 Who gave Him the cup? the Father did. 00:40:29.86\00:40:32.19 Can you imagine what that must have been like? 00:40:32.23\00:40:36.53 Do you think the Father suffered as well as Jesus? 00:40:36.56\00:40:40.04 Folks, you know, sometimes we talk about the sufferings of 00:40:40.07\00:40:44.44 Jesus, but sometimes I wonder if the suffering of God 00:40:44.47\00:40:47.28 the Father was not even greater than the 00:40:47.31\00:40:49.24 suffering of Jesus Christ. 00:40:49.28\00:40:50.61 Because both of them were separated from one another, 00:40:50.65\00:40:53.62 because Jesus was bearing the sin of the world. 00:40:53.65\00:40:56.65 Romans 8:32, Romans 8:32, is a beautiful verse. It says: 00:40:56.69\00:41:04.83 God did what? He did not spare His own Son? 00:41:07.93\00:41:12.47 Who delivered Him up? the Father. 00:41:14.80\00:41:17.71 Let me ask you, Does God the Father love us 00:41:27.02\00:41:29.42 as much as He loves Jesus? 00:41:29.45\00:41:31.09 That's what this verse is saying. 00:41:31.12\00:41:35.29 He did not spare His own Son because He loved us 00:41:35.32\00:41:40.30 as much as He loves Jesus, or else He would not have been 00:41:40.33\00:41:45.20 willing to give up Jesus, His Son. 00:41:45.23\00:41:47.94 And so this is comforting to know that He was willing 00:41:47.97\00:41:50.74 to go through this intense agony and suffering, because He wanted 00:41:50.77\00:41:56.48 us to be saved in His kingdom. 00:41:56.51\00:41:58.15 He loves us as much as He loves His Son, Jesus Christ. 00:41:58.18\00:42:03.28 Let me illustrate this point. 00:42:03.32\00:42:06.32 I just arrived in Fresno about going on 131/2 years ago, 00:42:06.35\00:42:12.96 and one evening, one Wednesday night, we had prayer meeting, 00:42:12.99\00:42:17.07 and we sang, and we studied Scripture, 00:42:17.10\00:42:19.70 and we gave testimonies of fantastic experience. 00:42:19.73\00:42:22.64 And after the prayer meeting I was all pumped up and excited. 00:42:22.67\00:42:27.18 And so I got in the car and I went up here to Clinton, 00:42:27.21\00:42:31.81 and I turned right on Clinton, and then I turned left on 00:42:31.85\00:42:34.22 First Street, and I was just, I was walking in the clouds. 00:42:34.25\00:42:38.65 I was so excited about what had happened at prayer meeting. 00:42:38.69\00:42:41.26 And I didn't notice that my speedometer marked 50 mpr, 00:42:41.29\00:42:46.43 actually 55 mpr, and it's a 40 mph zone. 00:42:46.46\00:42:51.87 And I was very, very elevated until I saw that blue and red 00:42:51.90\00:42:56.54 light behind my car. 00:42:56.57\00:42:58.17 And, by the way, this is the only time that I've been stopped 00:42:58.21\00:43:01.34 here in Fresno in 131/2 years. 00:43:01.38\00:43:03.51 And the policeman got out of his car. 00:43:03.55\00:43:05.85 He came to the window. 00:43:05.88\00:43:07.22 He said, Can I have your license, please? 00:43:07.25\00:43:08.62 So I took out my wallet and my license wasn't in there. 00:43:08.65\00:43:13.15 I'd taken it out for some reason. 00:43:13.19\00:43:14.76 So he says, Well, could I have your registration? 00:43:14.79\00:43:17.19 I said, Yeah, I'll give you the registration. 00:43:17.23\00:43:19.09 So I looked in the glove compartment above the visor, 00:43:19.13\00:43:21.66 and couldn't find my registration. 00:43:21.70\00:43:23.03 So he says, Well, do you have proof of insurance? 00:43:23.06\00:43:26.07 I said, Well, let me look. 00:43:26.10\00:43:27.44 And so I looked, and I couldn't find proof of insurance either. 00:43:27.47\00:43:30.01 And so he says, What's your name? 00:43:30.04\00:43:32.97 I said, My name is Stephen Bohr. 00:43:33.01\00:43:34.58 And he said, What is your profession? 00:43:34.61\00:43:37.78 And, you know what, I was kind of embarrassed. 00:43:37.81\00:43:40.45 I actually said, Well, you know, I'm pastor of the church 00:43:40.48\00:43:44.02 right around the corner, Fresno Central Church. 00:43:44.05\00:43:46.32 And he said, Well, let me go back to my car, and you know, 00:43:46.35\00:43:50.36 look in the computer and check things out. 00:43:50.39\00:43:51.99 So he was there for a few minutes and then he came back 00:43:52.03\00:43:54.20 to the window and he said, Pastor Bohr, 00:43:54.23\00:43:56.93 everything checks out. 00:43:56.97\00:43:58.33 I know you have a license, and I know that you're registered, 00:43:58.37\00:44:02.40 and I know that you have insurance, 00:44:02.44\00:44:04.04 because it's all in the computer. 00:44:04.07\00:44:06.37 And I was feeling pretty good. 00:44:06.41\00:44:08.34 I said, Well, but the ticket is coming. 00:44:08.38\00:44:10.21 And so he looked at me and he said, You know, you as a pastor 00:44:10.25\00:44:14.25 of all people should obey the laws of Caesar. 00:44:14.28\00:44:18.32 And I said, You know, I really know that. 00:44:18.35\00:44:20.22 But I explained to him I was in prayer meeting, 00:44:20.26\00:44:22.32 we had testimonies, we sang, and we studied Scripture. 00:44:22.36\00:44:25.36 I was just pumped up. 00:44:25.39\00:44:26.73 I just got carried away! 00:44:26.76\00:44:28.10 I didn't even notice. 00:44:28.13\00:44:29.46 And so he looked at me and he said, You know, I can tell that 00:44:29.50\00:44:33.27 this isn't a thing that you regularly do. 00:44:33.30\00:44:35.54 I'll tell you what I'm going to do. 00:44:35.57\00:44:37.31 I'm going to let you go, but be more careful next time. 00:44:37.34\00:44:42.41 Now let me ask you, Did that policeman do the right thing? 00:44:42.44\00:44:46.68 No, he did not do the right thing. 00:44:49.18\00:44:52.32 You say, Well, you got off the hook. 00:44:52.35\00:44:55.56 Yes, I got off the hook, but he didn't do the right thing. 00:44:55.59\00:44:58.09 Because I had violated the law, and the justice of the law 00:44:58.13\00:45:03.06 demanded that I pay the fine. 00:45:03.10\00:45:05.30 I'm thankful I didn't have to. 00:45:05.33\00:45:08.00 But if he had done his job, he would have given me the ticket. 00:45:08.04\00:45:12.74 Do you know what would have been even better? 00:45:12.77\00:45:15.28 If he'd come to the window and said, Pastor Bohr, the law says 00:45:15.31\00:45:20.52 that if you go 15 miles an hour over the speed limit, 00:45:20.55\00:45:24.02 you have to pay such and such a fine. 00:45:24.05\00:45:26.62 And, you know, so you're liable. 00:45:26.65\00:45:30.43 But he says, I'll tell you what I'm going to do. 00:45:30.46\00:45:32.39 I'm going to go down to the police station. 00:45:32.43\00:45:36.87 I'm going to go to the judge, and I'm going to pay 00:45:36.90\00:45:40.74 this ticket myself. 00:45:40.77\00:45:42.10 You say, Fat chance! 00:45:43.74\00:45:45.14 Of course, that wouldn't happen in real life. 00:45:45.17\00:45:47.34 But let me ask you, If he went to court to the judge, 00:45:47.38\00:45:51.71 and he paid my ticket, would the justice of the law be sustained? 00:45:51.75\00:45:56.72 Yes, because the fine is what? paid. 00:45:56.75\00:46:00.26 But at the same time would mercy be shown? 00:46:00.29\00:46:03.96 Yes, because he paid the fine so that I did not have to what? 00:46:03.99\00:46:09.30 So that I did not have to pay it. 00:46:09.33\00:46:11.40 That's exactly what happened with Jesus. 00:46:11.43\00:46:13.94 You see, we all should die. 00:46:13.97\00:46:17.31 We all should be punished with the sentence of death. 00:46:17.34\00:46:20.51 But Jesus paid the death that we should suffer. 00:46:20.54\00:46:26.08 And because He paid the death that we should suffer, 00:46:26.11\00:46:30.19 justice is satisfied, the demands of the law are 00:46:30.22\00:46:33.76 satisfied, but at the same time, His mercy is shown because 00:46:33.79\00:46:38.53 He suffered the penalty so that I don't have to suffer. 00:46:38.56\00:46:42.80 You all know the verse that we have, the most famous verse 00:46:42.83\00:46:48.60 in the Bible: John 3:16 where it says, For God so loved the 00:46:48.64\00:46:53.61 world that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:46:53.64\00:46:57.98 That includes everyone, right? 00:46:58.01\00:46:59.95 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:46:59.98\00:47:02.95 But there's a second half of the verse. 00:47:02.98\00:47:04.75 Sometimes people forget what that second half 00:47:04.79\00:47:07.32 of the verse says. 00:47:07.36\00:47:08.69 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten 00:47:08.72\00:47:11.49 Son, that whosoever what? 00:47:11.53\00:47:13.29 That whosoever believes in Him should not perish, 00:47:13.33\00:47:17.43 but have everlasting life. 00:47:17.47\00:47:19.73 So let me ask you, Did He die to save everyone? 00:47:22.30\00:47:24.51 Did He pay everyone's debt? 00:47:24.54\00:47:25.87 Well, He didn't pay everyone's debt, but He made provision 00:47:25.91\00:47:29.68 to pay everyone's debt. 00:47:29.71\00:47:31.05 Now I go back to the original question that we 00:47:31.08\00:47:35.05 began our lecture with. 00:47:35.08\00:47:36.42 Why do you have a group in the holy city who are sinners, 00:47:36.45\00:47:39.82 but they're saved? 00:47:39.85\00:47:41.22 And you have another group of sinners outside the holy city 00:47:41.26\00:47:46.59 that eventually will be destroyed by fire and brimstone? 00:47:46.63\00:47:51.60 What made the difference? 00:47:51.63\00:47:53.34 Folks, what made the difference is simply that the group 00:47:53.37\00:47:57.77 who are in the holy city received, or accepted, 00:47:57.81\00:48:01.81 the gift that Jesus purchased at the price of His own blood. 00:48:01.84\00:48:06.75 You see, Jesus, by shedding His blood, paid an infinite price. 00:48:06.78\00:48:13.36 He paid enough to save every single person on Planet Earth. 00:48:13.39\00:48:17.79 But I have to receive or accept that gift. 00:48:17.83\00:48:22.16 And if I don't accept that gift, then I am still in my sins, 00:48:22.20\00:48:26.33 and I must suffer death. 00:48:26.37\00:48:29.24 So we get back to those individuals who are outside 00:48:29.27\00:48:32.81 the holy city, who are going to finally suffer the ultimate 00:48:32.84\00:48:35.71 punishment of the wrath of God. 00:48:35.74\00:48:37.55 Why are they going to suffer this punishment? 00:48:37.58\00:48:40.52 Did Jesus suffer this punishment in their place? 00:48:40.55\00:48:43.95 He most certainly did. 00:48:43.99\00:48:45.32 He suffered the wrath of God. 00:48:45.35\00:48:48.19 He paid the penalty of their sin. 00:48:48.22\00:48:50.16 But what did they do? 00:48:50.19\00:48:51.53 They refused to accept the payment that Jesus made. 00:48:51.56\00:48:56.00 I want to go to Revelation 20: 7-9, Revelation 20:7-9. 00:48:56.03\00:49:05.67 This is speaking about after the millennium, when the wicked are 00:49:05.71\00:49:09.54 gathered around the holy city in the New Jerusalem; 00:49:09.58\00:49:12.31 those who rejected the payment that Jesus Christ offered. 00:49:12.35\00:49:15.88 It says in verse 7: 00:49:15.92\00:49:17.82 Is that what we find in the third angel's message? 00:49:46.98\00:49:49.08 fire falling from heaven, fire and brimstone 00:49:49.12\00:49:51.09 devouring the wicked? Absolutely. 00:49:51.12\00:49:53.39 This is the final manifestation of the wrath of God 00:49:53.42\00:49:55.96 in the third angel's message. 00:49:55.99\00:49:57.36 Now where does this language come from where you have the 00:49:57.39\00:50:02.63 nations of all of the world coming from the four corners 00:50:02.66\00:50:05.50 of the earth, Gog and Magog. 00:50:05.53\00:50:07.34 Where does this come from? 00:50:07.37\00:50:08.70 It actually comes from Ezekiel chapter 39. 00:50:08.74\00:50:11.44 So let's go back to Ezekiel 39: 17-19, Ezekiel 39:17-19. 00:50:11.47\00:50:22.28 And there's a very important point that I 00:50:22.32\00:50:24.19 want to underline here. 00:50:24.22\00:50:25.55 Do you remember that in the Sanctuary there was 00:50:25.59\00:50:27.66 a sacrificial service, right? bulls, and goats, and lambs. 00:50:27.69\00:50:31.89 Different kinds of animals were sacrificed. 00:50:31.93\00:50:33.40 Why were they sacrificed? 00:50:33.43\00:50:34.76 They pointed forward to the death of Jesus 00:50:34.80\00:50:37.03 Christ for sin, right? the fact that He was going to suffer 00:50:37.07\00:50:40.17 the punishment of sinners. 00:50:40.20\00:50:41.57 Now I want you to notice carefully what it says here. 00:50:41.80\00:50:44.41 What is God going to do here? A what? 00:51:00.06\00:51:02.22 Is this a sacrifice? 00:51:07.00\00:51:08.33 By the way, this is the same word that is used 00:51:08.36\00:51:09.76 in the book of Leviticus for the sacrifices of the Sanctuary. 00:51:09.80\00:51:13.80 Again it says: 00:51:16.20\00:51:17.54 And now notice the animals that are mentioned. 00:51:25.21\00:51:27.32 What kinds of animals were these? sacrificial animals. 00:51:32.99\00:51:36.73 Is the death of the wicked portrayed as a sacrifice? 00:51:51.61\00:51:56.24 as a sanctuary sacrifice? 00:51:56.28\00:51:58.41 It most certainly is. 00:51:58.45\00:51:59.91 And you say, Why is it portrayed as sacrificial animals? 00:51:59.95\00:52:04.62 Let me tell you. There's actually two ways that your 00:52:04.65\00:52:09.42 sins can be taken care of. 00:52:09.46\00:52:11.03 The first way is if you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior 00:52:11.06\00:52:18.13 and Lord, and therefore accept the payment that 00:52:18.17\00:52:22.74 He made for your sins. 00:52:22.77\00:52:24.11 Let me ask you, If you received Jesus, are your sins paid for? 00:52:24.14\00:52:27.51 They most certainly are paid for, but you didn't 00:52:27.54\00:52:30.18 have to pay for them. 00:52:30.21\00:52:31.55 He was sacrificed instead of you. 00:52:31.58\00:52:33.35 But I ask you, Is there another way of paying 00:52:35.98\00:52:39.62 the penalty of sin? 00:52:39.65\00:52:41.16 Of course there is. 00:52:41.19\00:52:42.52 What is the other way? that I suffer death. 00:52:42.56\00:52:49.23 Are you understanding why sacrificial 00:52:49.26\00:52:52.23 animals are used here? 00:52:52.27\00:52:53.60 It's because the wicked did not accept the sacrifice of Christ, 00:52:53.64\00:52:57.97 therefore they have to pay the debt for their own sins. 00:52:58.01\00:53:03.55 You see when Jesus died he deposited enough currency, 00:53:03.58\00:53:08.12 if you please, in the bank of the universe, to save every 00:53:08.15\00:53:12.69 single human being. 00:53:12.72\00:53:14.06 But we have to come, and we have to make the withdrawal. 00:53:14.09\00:53:17.79 And if we don't make the withdrawal, then His payment 00:53:17.83\00:53:21.90 will do us no good. 00:53:21.96\00:53:23.30 And, therefore, we must pay for our sins with our own death. 00:53:23.33\00:53:27.50 Are you understanding what I am saying? 00:53:27.54\00:53:28.87 And Ezekiel 39 is talking about this group of people outside 00:53:28.90\00:53:34.28 the holy city, because Ezekiel 38 and 39 are talking about 00:53:34.31\00:53:37.61 Gog and Magog; the same context of Revelation 20:7-9. 00:53:37.65\00:53:41.72 So my question is, Why were those outside the city lost? 00:53:41.75\00:53:46.12 Because they rejected Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, 00:53:46.15\00:53:50.43 and they chose rather to worship whom? the beast, his image, 00:53:50.46\00:53:56.20 and to receive the mark of the beast, 00:53:56.23\00:53:59.07 and the number of his name. 00:53:59.10\00:54:00.84 So is receiving Jesus Christ a matter of life and death? 00:54:00.87\00:54:06.24 It most certainly is. 00:54:06.27\00:54:07.94 You see, either Jesus suffered the wrath of God in my place, 00:54:07.98\00:54:12.28 or I will have to suffer the wrath of God myself. 00:54:12.31\00:54:15.95 Notice once again Revelation 20:14, 15, 00:54:15.98\00:54:20.69 the final manifestation of the wrath of God. It says: 00:54:20.72\00:54:25.09 Do you know what the second death is? 00:54:33.74\00:54:35.30 The second death is that death from which there 00:54:35.34\00:54:38.27 is no resurrection. 00:54:38.34\00:54:39.71 Did Jesus suffer the second death? 00:54:43.04\00:54:44.65 Don't miss the next exciting episode, 00:54:47.22\00:54:49.62 because we're going to address that issue. 00:54:49.65\00:54:52.35 Did Jesus suffer second death? 00:54:52.39\00:54:53.89 If He did suffer second death, why is He not 00:54:53.92\00:54:57.06 separated from God today? 00:54:57.09\00:54:58.76 Why did He see His Father's face again? 00:54:58.79\00:55:00.96 A very important question, which we'll address 00:55:01.00\00:55:05.00 in our next lecture. 00:55:05.03\00:55:06.97 But I want you to notice: Then death and Hades were cast 00:55:07.00\00:55:10.51 into the lake of fire. 00:55:10.54\00:55:11.87 This is the second death. 00:55:11.91\00:55:13.24 And anyone not found where? written in the book of life 00:55:13.27\00:55:18.81 was cast into the lake of fire. 00:55:18.85\00:55:21.22 Whose book is this, the book of life? 00:55:21.25\00:55:22.88 Notice Revelation 13:8. It says: 00:55:22.92\00:55:26.25 That is worship the beast. 00:55:29.22\00:55:30.56 Who is written in the book of the Lamb? the saved. 00:55:42.40\00:55:47.14 And when was that Lamb slain? 00:55:47.18\00:55:50.48 It says here from the foundation of the world. 00:55:50.51\00:55:53.38 The plan was laid in eternity, but it was implemented 00:55:53.42\00:55:57.62 when Jesus Christ came to this earth. 00:55:57.65\00:56:00.72 And so who is it folks, who is going to drink the cup of wine 00:56:00.76\00:56:08.66 of the wrath of God? 00:56:08.70\00:56:10.47 What a waste! Nobody in this world really has to drink 00:56:10.50\00:56:15.44 the cup of the wrath of God, of the wine of the wrath of God, 00:56:15.47\00:56:18.57 because Jesus already drank it. 00:56:18.64\00:56:20.28 What a waste that someone would have to drink that 00:56:20.31\00:56:23.91 cup of wrath themselves when Jesus already drank it. 00:56:23.95\00:56:27.48 The Bible tells us that in the last days those who worship 00:56:27.52\00:56:34.56 the beast and his image, and receive his mark, 00:56:34.59\00:56:38.23 and the number of his name, will drink the cup of the 00:56:38.26\00:56:43.26 unmitigated wrath of God. 00:56:43.30\00:56:44.77 And after the millennium their destruction 00:56:44.80\00:56:50.14 will be sure and final. 00:56:50.17\00:56:53.07 So the big question is, Have we repented of sin, 00:56:53.11\00:56:59.81 and confessed our sin? 00:56:59.85\00:57:01.98 Have we chosen Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord 00:57:02.02\00:57:07.02 instead of the beast? 00:57:07.06\00:57:08.39 Have we committed our lives without any reservation 00:57:08.42\00:57:12.36 to Jesus Christ, and only to Him? 00:57:12.39\00:57:15.63 You see, the issue at the end of time will be 00:57:15.66\00:57:18.10 Christ or the beast? 00:57:18.13\00:57:20.34 And the question is, Who of these two will we worship? 00:57:20.37\00:57:25.91
