Let's bow our heads for prayer. 00:00:30.46\00:00:31.89 Our loving heavenly Father, what a joy it is to be in 00:00:31.93\00:00:36.83 Your presence today. 00:00:36.87\00:00:38.20 We thank You Father for Your Holy Word, 00:00:38.23\00:00:41.34 because it's a sure guide in a world that doesn't know where to 00:00:41.37\00:00:46.21 turn; in a world that's confused about Bible prophecy. 00:00:46.24\00:00:50.28 We ask, Father, that You will open our understanding today 00:00:50.31\00:00:53.95 that we might be able to comprehend about the beast 00:00:53.98\00:00:56.69 that rises from the earth. 00:00:56.72\00:00:58.32 I ask, Lord, that You will remove preconceived 00:00:58.35\00:01:01.46 notions from our minds, and You will help us only 00:01:01.49\00:01:05.56 to hear Your voice. 00:01:05.59\00:01:06.93 And we thank You for hearing our prayer 00:01:06.96\00:01:09.10 for we ask it in the precious name of Jesus, Amen. 00:01:09.13\00:01:13.67 In last time's presentation we studied about the beast that 00:01:13.70\00:01:21.64 rose from the sea. 00:01:21.68\00:01:24.35 And we noticed that that beast that rose from the sea 00:01:24.38\00:01:27.68 is a symbol of the Roman Catholic papacy. 00:01:27.72\00:01:32.59 I want to make it very clear that we are not opposed 00:01:32.62\00:01:37.39 to Roman Catholics. 00:01:37.43\00:01:38.99 We're talking about a system. 00:01:39.03\00:01:41.30 We're not talking about the individuals within that system. 00:01:41.33\00:01:45.13 There are very many sincere, loving Christians within that 00:01:45.17\00:01:50.77 communion, but we're talking about the Roman Catholic Church 00:01:50.81\00:01:54.74 as an organization, or as a hierarchy. 00:01:54.78\00:01:58.45 Now you remember, if you were here this time, that we noticed 00:01:58.48\00:02:03.08 that the fourth beast of Daniel 7 has four stages of dominium. 00:02:03.12\00:02:09.82 The first stage of dominion is, of course, the dragon 00:02:09.86\00:02:13.26 beast ruling by itself. 00:02:13.29\00:02:15.03 That represents the Roman Empire. 00:02:15.06\00:02:16.83 Then from the head of that dragon beast come ten horns, 00:02:16.87\00:02:21.70 which represent the ten divisions of the Roman Empire. 00:02:21.74\00:02:26.04 The Roman Empire was fragmented as a result of 00:02:26.07\00:02:28.94 the barbarian invasions. 00:02:28.98\00:02:30.68 And then we notice that a little horn rises among the ten. 00:02:30.71\00:02:34.58 That represents the Roman Catholic papacy, which ruled for 00:02:34.62\00:02:38.29 1,260 years, from 538 to 1798, when the pope was taken prisoner 00:02:38.32\00:02:46.13 by Napoleon's, General Berthier. 00:02:46.16\00:02:49.20 And then we notice that there was a period of time in which 00:02:49.23\00:02:52.40 that little horn, or the beast, remained inactive, 00:02:52.43\00:02:56.47 because the secular governments of the world maintained 00:02:56.50\00:03:00.28 this system bound. 00:03:00.31\00:03:01.64 In other words they did not allow this system to use them. 00:03:01.68\00:03:04.91 The Bible uses the symbolism of the sword. 00:03:04.95\00:03:09.62 They did not allow the church to use the sword of the state. 00:03:09.65\00:03:13.86 And so for about 200 years after the French Revolution 00:03:13.89\00:03:17.86 the Roman Catholic Church has not been able to use the civil 00:03:17.89\00:03:20.96 powers of the world to persecute. 00:03:21.00\00:03:23.37 We noticed also in our study that this deadly wound is 00:03:23.40\00:03:27.64 going to be healed. 00:03:27.67\00:03:29.00 The sword is going to be returned once 00:03:29.04\00:03:31.04 again to this system. 00:03:31.07\00:03:32.74 And all of the world, the Bible says, is going to wander after 00:03:32.77\00:03:37.15 this system, is going to wander after the beast. 00:03:37.18\00:03:39.81 And you say, How in the world could this wound be healed? 00:03:39.85\00:03:44.32 How is it possible that any nation in the world would allow 00:03:44.35\00:03:48.86 this system, once again, to climb on it, and to use that 00:03:48.89\00:03:54.66 government, or to use that secular power as a sword, 00:03:54.70\00:03:59.30 to persecute, once again, those who are not in harmony 00:03:59.33\00:04:02.34 with the teachings of the church? 00:04:02.37\00:04:03.94 Well, today we're going to study a little bit about the healing 00:04:03.97\00:04:08.74 of that deadly wound. 00:04:08.78\00:04:10.18 We're going to identify a second beast in Revelation 13. 00:04:10.21\00:04:13.65 This beast does not rise from the sea. 00:04:13.68\00:04:17.25 It rises from the earth. 00:04:17.29\00:04:18.92 And this beast is actually going to return the sword 00:04:18.95\00:04:22.92 to the first beast. 00:04:22.96\00:04:24.29 You see, this second beast from the earth is going to make an 00:04:24.33\00:04:28.76 image of the first beast. 00:04:28.80\00:04:30.57 This second beast is going to command all of the world 00:04:30.60\00:04:34.60 to worship the first beast. 00:04:34.64\00:04:36.40 In fact, this second beast is going to command every one 00:04:36.44\00:04:40.68 on earth to receive the mark of the best. 00:04:40.71\00:04:43.68 By the way, in the future we're going to have one lecture on the 00:04:43.71\00:04:46.41 image to the beast. 00:04:46.45\00:04:47.78 We're going to have another lecture on the 00:04:47.82\00:04:49.55 mark of the beast. 00:04:49.58\00:04:50.92 And we're going to have still another one on the 00:04:50.95\00:04:52.95 number of the beast. 00:04:52.99\00:04:54.32 So each one of those aspects we're going to study. 00:04:54.36\00:04:57.43 But today we want to identify the power, or the nation, 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.66 that is going to return the sword to the sea beast, 00:05:01.70\00:05:05.40 or to the Roman Catholic papacy. 00:05:05.43\00:05:07.27 In fact, do you know that the Bible says that when the sword 00:05:07.30\00:05:11.17 is returned to the sea beast, that the sea beast is actually 00:05:11.21\00:05:15.74 going to be able to kill, through this power, 00:05:15.78\00:05:18.61 through this nation that rises, is going to be able to kill 00:05:18.65\00:05:22.05 everyone who is not in harmony with her teachings. 00:05:22.08\00:05:26.15 You find that in Revelation 13: 15 where it says: 00:05:26.19\00:05:30.69 Yes, persecution will arise again just like it existed 00:05:43.00\00:05:48.08 during the Middle Ages. 00:05:48.11\00:05:49.74 Now let's read about this beast that rises from the earth, 00:05:49.78\00:05:54.02 that is going to help the first beast get its power back. 00:05:54.05\00:05:57.52 Revelation 13:11, Revelation 13:11. 00:05:57.55\00:06:04.13 Other versions say, He had two horns like a lamb but he 00:06:14.50\00:06:18.57 spoke like a dragon. 00:06:18.61\00:06:20.11 Now the remarkable thing about this second beast, 00:06:20.14\00:06:23.11 this earth beast, is that it has a split personality. 00:06:23.14\00:06:27.38 In other words, it has a positive side, 00:06:27.42\00:06:31.15 and it has a negative side. 00:06:31.19\00:06:32.55 The positive side are the two horns like a lamb. 00:06:32.59\00:06:36.56 Because we're going to notice in Revelation that the lamb 00:06:36.59\00:06:38.86 represents Jesus Christ. 00:06:38.89\00:06:40.33 So this beast has a positive side: the two horns like a lamb. 00:06:40.36\00:06:44.40 But it says that this same beast that has two horns like a lamb, 00:06:44.43\00:06:48.90 speaks like what? like a dragon. 00:06:48.94\00:06:51.67 Let me ask you, What similarity is there between 00:06:51.71\00:06:55.11 a dragon and a lamb? 00:06:55.14\00:06:56.54 No similarity at all! 00:06:57.65\00:06:59.31 And yet in this one beast you find these two characteristics: 00:06:59.35\00:07:03.32 two horns like a lamb. 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.19 It has two aspects like a lamb, but it speaks like a dragon. 00:07:05.22\00:07:09.89 In other words it has a dual personality. 00:07:09.92\00:07:13.36 It has a split personality. 00:07:13.40\00:07:16.40 I want you to notice that it's not that this beast has two 00:07:16.43\00:07:21.24 horns like a lamb, and then the two horns are broken. 00:07:21.27\00:07:24.84 In other words it ceases being like a lamb, 00:07:24.87\00:07:27.58 and then it speaks like a dragon when the two horns are broken. 00:07:27.61\00:07:30.95 No. The Bible says that it speaks like a dragon even while 00:07:30.98\00:07:36.28 it still have the two horns. 00:07:36.32\00:07:37.95 In other words, it professes one thing, 00:07:37.99\00:07:41.02 but it actually lives another. 00:07:41.06\00:07:43.83 In other words, it professes two principles, 00:07:43.86\00:07:46.86 we're going to notice, that Christ entertained. 00:07:46.90\00:07:49.83 And it's going to say, We believe in that, but at the same 00:07:49.86\00:07:52.67 time it's going to persecute like the 00:07:52.70\00:07:54.80 dragon of Revelation 12. 00:07:54.84\00:07:56.91 Now let's identify this lamb beast. 00:07:56.94\00:07:59.74 Let's see... Actually it's not a land beast, but the beast that 00:07:59.77\00:08:02.64 has two horns like a lamb. 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.15 Let's review the order of kingdoms that we 00:08:04.18\00:08:07.42 studied last time. 00:08:07.45\00:08:08.78 You remember that we have a lion. 00:08:08.82\00:08:10.72 What kingdom does the lion represent? Babylon. 00:08:10.75\00:08:14.26 Then we have a bear. 00:08:14.29\00:08:15.62 What kingdom does the bear represent? 00:08:15.66\00:08:17.13 the Medes and Persians. 00:08:17.16\00:08:18.79 Then we have a leopard. 00:08:18.83\00:08:20.16 What kingdom does the leopard represent? Greece. 00:08:20.20\00:08:22.93 Then we have a dragon beast. 00:08:22.96\00:08:24.67 And what does that dragon beast represent? Rome. 00:08:24.70\00:08:28.10 And then that dragon beast grows ten horns. 00:08:28.14\00:08:30.64 What do the ten horns represent that come from the head of Rome, 00:08:30.67\00:08:34.04 of the dragon beast? 00:08:34.08\00:08:35.41 It represents Rome, that was divided into ten kingdoms 00:08:35.44\00:08:38.38 as a result of the barbarian invasions. 00:08:38.41\00:08:40.72 476 is the key date. 00:08:40.75\00:08:42.95 That's when the last Roman emperor was deposed. 00:08:42.98\00:08:45.85 And then you have the little horn, which represents 00:08:45.89\00:08:48.86 the papacy, which, by the way, is Roman also. 00:08:48.89\00:08:51.86 It comes from the head of the dragon beast, which is Rome. 00:08:51.89\00:08:54.73 And it rules for 1260 years. 00:08:54.76\00:08:57.47 But then at the end of the 1260 years, it receives a what? 00:08:57.50\00:09:01.77 a deadly wound. The sword that it used to persecute 00:09:01.80\00:09:05.97 now turns against it. 00:09:06.01\00:09:07.78 In other words, the sword is taken out of its hand. 00:09:07.81\00:09:10.71 And the sword rises against it and gives it a deadly wound. 00:09:10.75\00:09:14.68 And for awhile this beast is inactive; this sea beast is 00:09:14.72\00:09:19.62 inactive because it has a deadly wound. 00:09:19.65\00:09:22.42 But the Bible says that its deadly wound 00:09:22.46\00:09:25.19 is going to be what? healed. 00:09:25.23\00:09:27.53 Now I want you to notice something very 00:09:27.56\00:09:30.00 interesting about this beast. 00:09:30.03\00:09:31.43 When this first beast falls, when the sea beast receives 00:09:31.47\00:09:34.70 its deadly wound, at that moment is when this land beast rises. 00:09:34.74\00:09:38.77 So we have a chronological detail to know exactly when 00:09:38.81\00:09:42.11 this beast is going to arise in the flow of history. 00:09:42.14\00:09:45.05 Let's notice several characteristics. 00:09:45.08\00:09:46.88 Characteristic 1. of this land beast that is going to give 00:09:46.92\00:09:50.82 the sword back to the sea beast. 00:09:50.85\00:09:52.65 And it's going to impose the mark of the sea beast. 00:09:52.69\00:09:55.16 It's going to impose the number of the sea beast. 00:09:55.19\00:09:57.89 It's going to make an image of the sea beast. 00:09:57.93\00:10:00.16 It's going to tell everyone to worship the sea beast. 00:10:00.20\00:10:03.20 In other words, everything it does is with 00:10:03.23\00:10:05.67 reference to the sea beast. 00:10:05.70\00:10:07.10 It's almost like it doesn't have its own identity. 00:10:07.14\00:10:10.44 It arose for one purpose, and that was to return the identity, 00:10:10.47\00:10:15.01 or the ability to persecute to that first beast. 00:10:15.04\00:10:19.65 Now notice Revelation 13:10, 11, Revelation 13:10, 11. 00:10:19.68\00:10:26.32 Verse 10 speaks about the deadly wound. It says: 00:10:26.35\00:10:30.29 See that's the deadly wound. 00:10:38.43\00:10:40.00 And notice, immediately after it speaks about the deadly wound, 00:10:43.34\00:10:46.37 we find in verse 11: 00:10:46.41\00:10:48.21 So when the first beast falls it says: 00:10:49.04\00:10:53.05 So when does this second beast rise? 00:11:05.56\00:11:08.76 It rises to power when the first beast receives its deadly wound. 00:11:08.80\00:11:14.94 Because it says, He who kills with the sword will be 00:11:14.97\00:11:17.54 killed with the sword. 00:11:17.57\00:11:18.91 Then he says, Then I saw another beast rise from the earth, 00:11:18.94\00:11:22.11 which means that this beast would have to rise 00:11:22.14\00:11:24.31 around what year? 00:11:24.35\00:11:25.68 It will have to be around the year 1798 when the first beast 00:11:25.71\00:11:30.69 received its deadly wound. 00:11:30.72\00:11:32.55 A second characteristic which helps us identify this beast 00:11:32.59\00:11:37.43 from the earth is that in Revelation 13, beginning with 00:11:37.46\00:11:42.33 verse 11, there is no reference to waters. 00:11:42.36\00:11:45.53 There is no reference to winds of strife. 00:11:45.57\00:11:49.10 In fact this beast that rises from the earth doesn't even 00:11:49.14\00:11:52.97 fight with any other beasts. 00:11:53.01\00:11:54.44 In other words, it does not arise in the midst of strife. 00:11:54.48\00:12:00.42 Winds of strife represent wars. 00:12:00.45\00:12:02.22 It doesn't have to conquer any previous nation. 00:12:02.25\00:12:04.95 It actually arises in a different place. 00:12:04.99\00:12:09.19 It can't be in Asia, and it can't be in Europe. 00:12:09.22\00:12:14.00 You say, Why not? 00:12:14.03\00:12:15.36 Because if you read Daniel 7 you'll notice that the lion 00:12:15.40\00:12:18.67 and the bear, which are Asian powers, by the way, 00:12:18.70\00:12:22.14 rose from the sea. 00:12:22.17\00:12:23.71 Also the leopard and the dragon beast, which are European 00:12:23.74\00:12:28.84 powers, rose from the sea as well. 00:12:28.88\00:12:31.71 But this beast rises from the earth, which means that it must 00:12:31.75\00:12:35.85 rise in a different place. 00:12:35.88\00:12:37.59 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:12:37.62\00:12:39.05 Now something very important is that prophecy is actually moving 00:12:39.09\00:12:43.83 from east to west, because the first two beasts are Asian 00:12:43.86\00:12:46.96 powers: the lion and the bear. 00:12:47.00\00:12:49.90 The next two beasts are European powers, 00:12:49.93\00:12:52.77 which is Greece and Rome. 00:12:52.80\00:12:56.10 And, by the way, always moving further what? further west. 00:12:56.14\00:13:00.18 So where would you expect this beast from the earth to arise? 00:13:00.21\00:13:04.35 Probably further west than Europe. 00:13:04.38\00:13:08.08 And let me ask you, What is it that is west from Europe? 00:13:08.12\00:13:12.79 North America, the United States of America. 00:13:12.82\00:13:16.52 In fact, it's interesting that there are no waters. 00:13:16.56\00:13:19.29 It rises from the earth. 00:13:19.33\00:13:22.26 Waters represent multitudes, nations, tongues, and peoples. 00:13:22.30\00:13:25.43 Let me ask you, When the United States, when the pilgrims came 00:13:25.47\00:13:29.47 to the United States, were there lots of people 00:13:29.50\00:13:31.77 living in this country? 00:13:31.81\00:13:33.14 Was it like the old country, Europe? Absolutely not. 00:13:33.17\00:13:35.74 There were very few living here. 00:13:35.78\00:13:37.11 I'm going to give you some statistics 00:13:37.15\00:13:38.58 a little bit later on. 00:13:38.61\00:13:39.95 In fact, let me read you a couple of statements. 00:13:39.98\00:13:42.72 One of them is by Daniel J. Boorstin, who for many years 00:13:42.75\00:13:46.05 was the Librarian of Congress. 00:13:46.09\00:13:48.22 He says this about North America: 00:13:48.26\00:13:50.69 That is of the United States. 00:13:56.77\00:13:58.57 And another author said this, G. A. Townsend, 00:14:03.37\00:14:07.81 about the territory where this country arose: 00:14:07.84\00:14:11.05 So the United States arose in silence: no wins, no wars, 00:14:25.49\00:14:29.50 no fighting other nations. 00:14:29.53\00:14:30.87 It arose in the earth where there was a scarcity of people. 00:14:30.90\00:14:34.00 It arose around the year 1798, and this author says that it 00:14:34.04\00:14:38.34 arose like a plant. 00:14:38.37\00:14:40.54 Do you know that that word that's used, I saw another beast 00:14:40.58\00:14:43.48 rise from the earth, that word rise is used in the 00:14:43.51\00:14:46.21 New Testament to describe a plant that grows from the earth. 00:14:46.25\00:14:50.92 It's interesting that this historian says, 00:14:50.95\00:14:52.89 in the last quotation I read, Like a silent seed we 00:14:52.92\00:14:57.26 grew into an empire. 00:14:57.29\00:14:59.83 Now another point that will help us identify this power is that 00:14:59.86\00:15:05.20 the first beast, the sea beast, and this earth beast 00:15:05.23\00:15:09.54 are contemporaneous. 00:15:09.57\00:15:10.91 In other words, they exist at the same time. 00:15:10.94\00:15:13.17 But the first beast is older than this second beast, 00:15:13.21\00:15:16.54 because the second beast rises after the first beast 00:15:16.58\00:15:19.81 has ruled for 1,260 years. 00:15:19.85\00:15:23.18 In other words they exist at the same time. 00:15:23.22\00:15:25.55 They are powers that are simultaneous 00:15:25.59\00:15:27.86 in the flow of history. 00:15:27.89\00:15:29.22 And the interesting thing is that this second beast actually 00:15:29.26\00:15:33.36 helps the first beast to get it's power back. 00:15:33.40\00:15:36.73 You know, usually when you look at the beasts in Daniel 7, 00:15:36.77\00:15:40.34 the bear fights the lion and takes away his power, 00:15:40.37\00:15:44.57 and the leopard fights the bear and takes away his power, 00:15:44.61\00:15:47.61 and the dragon fights the leopard and 00:15:47.64\00:15:49.41 takes away his power. 00:15:49.44\00:15:50.78 In other words, every power defeats the previous power. 00:15:50.81\00:15:53.31 But this is very unusual, because in 1798, 00:15:53.35\00:15:56.42 when the first power falls, and loses the sword, the Bible tells 00:15:56.45\00:15:59.95 that this second power is not going to fight that first power, 00:15:59.99\00:16:03.46 but is actually going to do everything possible to restore 00:16:03.49\00:16:06.59 the power to the first beast. Unbelievable! 00:16:06.63\00:16:10.27 Revelation 13 also says that this power is going to be 00:16:10.30\00:16:14.44 worldwide, and it's going to be a super power. 00:16:14.47\00:16:18.54 It's going to be a super power economically, because the Bible 00:16:18.57\00:16:22.11 says that he's going to forbid to buy and sell 00:16:22.14\00:16:24.15 to whoever does not receive the mark of the beast. 00:16:24.18\00:16:26.78 It's a worldwide military power, because it says that it's going 00:16:26.82\00:16:31.95 to kill everyone who does not receive the mark of the beast. 00:16:31.99\00:16:35.92 And it is also a worldwide political power, because it says 00:16:35.96\00:16:40.30 that everybody on earth, all the world marveled 00:16:40.33\00:16:44.87 and worshipped the beast. 00:16:44.90\00:16:47.20 In other words, this second beast is the enforcer 00:16:47.24\00:16:50.41 of the first beast. 00:16:50.44\00:16:51.77 This second beast is actually the sword in the 00:16:51.81\00:16:55.11 first beast's hand. 00:16:55.14\00:16:56.48 And you say, this is incredible. 00:16:56.51\00:16:58.88 How would this beast lend itself to be used in this manner? 00:16:58.91\00:17:02.38 Well, it's unbelievable, but it's true. 00:17:02.42\00:17:04.99 One final characteristic before we move on to talk about the 00:17:05.02\00:17:10.03 two horns like a lamb, which is one especially 00:17:10.06\00:17:12.53 I want us to dwell upon. 00:17:12.56\00:17:14.00 This nation, before it becomes an oppressive nation, 00:17:14.03\00:17:20.20 and actually enforces the religion of the first beast, 00:17:20.24\00:17:24.47 actually was a blessing to those people who fled from the old 00:17:24.51\00:17:29.58 country to the United States. 00:17:29.61\00:17:32.15 I'm not going to read the text, but if you go to Revelation 12, 00:17:32.18\00:17:35.85 you're going to notice in verse 16, that immediately towards the 00:17:35.88\00:17:41.19 end of the 1260 years, when the church was being persecuted, 00:17:41.22\00:17:45.29 it says the dragon was spewing water out of his mouth 00:17:45.33\00:17:48.23 to drown the woman, which represents the church. 00:17:48.26\00:17:50.63 We're told there that the earth helped the woman, 00:17:50.67\00:17:54.44 and the earth swallowed the waters of persecution that the 00:17:54.47\00:17:58.41 dragon spewed out of his mouth. 00:17:58.44\00:18:00.18 In other words, at first this nation provides what? help, 00:18:00.21\00:18:04.31 and refuge for those who are persecuted in Europe. 00:18:04.35\00:18:07.25 But later on what's going to happen with this nation? 00:18:07.28\00:18:10.09 Instead of providing refuge for God's people, it is going 00:18:10.12\00:18:13.96 to become a what? a persecuting power. 00:18:13.99\00:18:17.36 By the way, I'd like to mention just briefly here the phenomenal 00:18:17.39\00:18:22.50 growth of the United States into a world super power. 00:18:22.53\00:18:26.37 In 1701 the United States had 260,000 inhabitants. 00:18:26.40\00:18:32.64 In 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed, 00:18:32.67\00:18:36.58 there were 2.8 million. 00:18:36.61\00:18:38.35 In the year 1800 there were 5,236,000. 00:18:38.38\00:18:44.95 That's around the time of the deadly wound. 00:18:45.02\00:18:49.22 In 1900 the United States had 76,212,000. 00:18:49.26\00:18:53.43 In 1950 the United States had 151,325,000. 00:18:53.46\00:19:04.97 And today, the latest that I saw on the internet, 00:19:05.01\00:19:08.64 the United States has over 306,000,000 inhabitants. 00:19:08.68\00:19:13.92 Since 1950 the population of the United States has doubled. 00:19:13.95\00:19:19.02 As a silent seed we grew into an empire. 00:19:19.05\00:19:26.49 Let me ask you, Is the United States a global power, 00:19:26.53\00:19:30.83 economically, militarily, and financially? Absolutely! 00:19:30.87\00:19:36.00 Can it serve, eventually, as the enforcer for this power? 00:19:36.04\00:19:40.44 There's no nation in the world that could serve as the enforcer 00:19:40.48\00:19:43.88 of this power except the United States. 00:19:43.91\00:19:46.01 Now I want to go and dwell upon the two horns like a lamb. 00:19:46.05\00:19:50.72 That's what I want to dedicate most of our time 00:19:50.75\00:19:52.69 to in this lecture. 00:19:52.72\00:19:54.16 First of all we want to ask, What does this beast represent? 00:19:54.19\00:19:59.69 What does a beast represent in Bible prophecy? 00:19:59.73\00:20:02.03 Well, you know that a beast represents a nation, right? 00:20:02.06\00:20:05.33 The lion represents Babylon, the bear Medo Persia, 00:20:05.37\00:20:09.04 the leopard Greece, the dragon Rome, the he goat represents 00:20:09.07\00:20:14.18 Greece, the ram represents Medo Persia. 00:20:14.21\00:20:16.88 In other words, beasts in prophecy represent nations. 00:20:16.91\00:20:21.58 Now allow me to read you a statement from Adam Clarke. 00:20:21.62\00:20:24.59 He was a great Bible commentator. 00:20:24.62\00:20:26.69 He's not a Seventh-day Adventist, but he explains 00:20:26.72\00:20:29.99 what a beast represents. 00:20:30.03\00:20:31.46 See it is not only Seventh-day Adventists that believe that 00:20:31.49\00:20:33.66 beasts represent nations. He says this: 00:20:33.70\00:20:35.80 That's the land beast. 00:20:46.81\00:20:48.14 Is he right? He said, Well, if the first beast 00:20:52.78\00:20:55.92 is an empire, well the second beast must also be what? 00:20:55.95\00:20:59.79 an empire, in order to be consistent. 00:20:59.82\00:21:03.02 Now what do the two horns represent? 00:21:03.06\00:21:05.73 How many beasts do we have? 00:21:05.76\00:21:07.50 I'm not talking about the sea beast and the land beast. 00:21:07.53\00:21:10.07 The land beast is how many beasts? just one, right? 00:21:10.10\00:21:13.17 But it has two horns. 00:21:13.20\00:21:16.20 So how many nations does this beast represent? it's one 00:21:16.24\00:21:19.51 nation, but it has two horns. 00:21:19.54\00:21:21.91 Now what do the two horns represent? 00:21:21.94\00:21:23.85 Once again Adam Clarke gives this explanation: 00:21:23.88\00:21:28.22 very, very good explanation. He says: 00:21:28.25\00:21:30.45 This is the dragon beast. It has ten horns. 00:21:36.49\00:21:40.56 That's the book of Revelation. 00:22:02.08\00:22:03.42 Is he right? I mean you have to be consistent. 00:22:11.36\00:22:14.86 You can't say that the ten horns of the dragon beast represent 00:22:14.90\00:22:18.00 one thing, and to say the two horns on this land beast 00:22:18.03\00:22:21.30 represent something totally different. 00:22:21.34\00:22:22.84 The two horns on the head of the land beast, or this beast 00:22:22.87\00:22:27.21 that has characteristics like a lamb, represent two kingdoms. 00:22:27.24\00:22:32.85 Now there's a Biblical parallel that is very, very close to 00:22:32.88\00:22:37.85 this symbol that we have in Revelation 13:11. 00:22:37.89\00:22:41.66 Go with me to Daniel 8, Daniel 8, and I want to read verse 3, 00:22:41.69\00:22:46.80 and then we'll jump down to verse 20. Daniel 8:3. 00:22:46.83\00:22:50.63 How many animals? one. 00:23:00.54\00:23:03.75 Okay, so you have one beast with what? two horns. 00:23:06.78\00:23:10.79 Now what do those two horns represent on this one beast? 00:23:17.06\00:23:19.96 This one ram with two horns. 00:23:20.00\00:23:21.93 What does the ram, and what do the two horns represent? 00:23:21.96\00:23:24.73 Verse 20: 00:23:24.77\00:23:26.10 Let me ask you, Was this one nation? 00:23:35.14\00:23:38.71 Yes, it was one nation. 00:23:38.75\00:23:41.48 One beast is used to represent it: a bear, and a ram. 00:23:41.52\00:23:47.96 One nation, but this one nation was composed of 00:23:47.99\00:23:51.49 how many kingdoms? 00:23:51.53\00:23:52.86 This one nation was composed of two kingdoms. 00:23:52.89\00:23:55.86 In other words, this beast of Revelation 13 represents one 00:23:55.90\00:23:59.33 nation, but that one nation has two what? has two kingdoms, 00:23:59.37\00:24:05.21 or dual kingdoms within it. 00:24:05.24\00:24:08.08 Now we're going to come back to this. 00:24:08.11\00:24:10.65 You'll understand what we're talking about. 00:24:10.68\00:24:12.08 We're setting the bases now. 00:24:12.11\00:24:13.45 But let me ask, Why are these two horns like horns of a lamb? 00:24:13.48\00:24:17.85 You know, there are many beasts in Scripture that have 00:24:17.89\00:24:21.46 horns in prophecy. 00:24:21.49\00:24:23.26 But this is the only time when the horns are specifically 00:24:23.29\00:24:28.50 identified; what kind of horns. 00:24:28.53\00:24:30.60 You know, for example, the dragon beast that 00:24:30.63\00:24:32.77 says it has ten horns. 00:24:32.80\00:24:34.14 That doesn't say what kind of ten horns they are. 00:24:34.17\00:24:36.10 It's just ten horns. 00:24:36.14\00:24:37.47 But with this beast it specifies. 00:24:37.51\00:24:40.68 It says that it has two horns like a what? like a lamb. 00:24:40.71\00:24:45.18 That must be important. 00:24:45.21\00:24:46.55 Now the question is, What does the lamb represent? 00:24:46.58\00:24:49.08 The word lamb is used in the book of Revelation 29 times. 00:24:49.12\00:24:53.56 In 28 of those references it indisputably 00:24:53.59\00:24:59.26 refers to Jesus Christ. 00:24:59.29\00:25:00.86 And so somehow this beast, the only time where you might 00:25:00.90\00:25:06.03 have an exception is here in this text, Revelation 13:11. 00:25:06.07\00:25:10.54 It must mean that somehow this one nation, on its head it will 00:25:10.57\00:25:16.88 have two horns, which represent two kingdoms, and those kingdoms 00:25:16.91\00:25:20.65 are the ones that were recognized by whom? 00:25:20.68\00:25:23.28 They were recognized by Jesus Christ, because the lamb 00:25:23.32\00:25:27.56 represents whom? The lamb represents Jesus. 00:25:27.59\00:25:31.39 So the two horns like a lamb is the positive side of this beast. 00:25:31.43\00:25:37.73 Let me ask you, Is this good that it has two 00:25:37.77\00:25:40.30 horns like a lamb? sure. 00:25:40.34\00:25:42.60 But the problem is that if it has two horns like the lamb, 00:25:42.64\00:25:45.61 in other words, two horns like kingdoms that Jesus recognized, 00:25:45.64\00:25:50.58 but at the same time it will speak like what? 00:25:50.61\00:25:53.75 It'll speak like a dragon, because it has 00:25:53.78\00:25:56.15 a split personality. 00:25:56.18\00:25:57.55 In other words, the two horns like a lamb 00:25:57.59\00:25:59.09 are the positive side. 00:25:59.12\00:26:00.46 They're related somehow to the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:26:00.49\00:26:04.66 And so we need to ask the question, What two kingdoms 00:26:04.69\00:26:08.50 did Jesus Christ the Lamb recognize? 00:26:08.53\00:26:11.40 Because the two horns are kingdoms, and they're two 00:26:11.43\00:26:15.77 horns like a lamb, so they must be two kingdoms that 00:26:15.80\00:26:18.27 Jesus what? that Jesus recognized. 00:26:18.31\00:26:20.88 Now the question is, Which two kingdoms did Jesus 00:26:20.91\00:26:23.75 recognize as viable? 00:26:23.78\00:26:25.88 Well, we've studied this in previous lectures. 00:26:25.91\00:26:29.15 You remember that Jesus says, Render therefore unto Caesar 00:26:29.18\00:26:34.32 the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the 00:26:34.36\00:26:38.69 things that are God's. 00:26:38.73\00:26:40.06 Did Jesus recognize two kingdoms? 00:26:40.10\00:26:41.76 Did the Lamb of God recognize two kingdoms? Yes, He did. 00:26:41.80\00:26:45.37 So let's summarize. 00:26:45.40\00:26:46.74 This beast that rises from the earth must be a kingdom. 00:26:46.77\00:26:50.97 This beast that rises from the earth, that has two horns, 00:26:51.01\00:26:54.84 the two horns must represent that in that nation there are 00:26:54.88\00:26:58.15 two what? There are two kingdoms. 00:26:58.18\00:27:00.52 And they have to be two kingdoms that Jesus recognized, 00:27:00.55\00:27:03.92 because they are two horns like what? 00:27:03.95\00:27:06.05 two horns like a lamb. 00:27:06.09\00:27:07.82 And we know that the two kingdoms that Jesus recognized 00:27:07.86\00:27:11.73 are the kingdom of Caesar, the civil government, 00:27:11.76\00:27:15.60 and the kingdom of God, which is on earth, the church. 00:27:15.63\00:27:21.24 Now let's talk a little bit about the history of the 00:27:21.27\00:27:25.71 United States of America. 00:27:25.74\00:27:27.08 What nation in the world arose around the year 1798? 00:27:27.11\00:27:36.02 One nation that recognized in its founding documents 00:27:36.05\00:27:41.96 the legitimate simultaneous existence of two kingdoms 00:27:41.99\00:27:48.00 separate one from another. 00:27:48.03\00:27:49.96 There's only one nation in the world that originated 00:27:50.00\00:27:54.20 as one nation that recognized two kingdoms, the same kingdoms 00:27:54.24\00:27:58.37 that Jesus recognized as being separate one from the other. 00:27:58.41\00:28:02.71 I want to read a statement from the Great Controversy, Page 440, 00:28:02.74\00:28:06.65 this magnificent book on Bible prophecy. 00:28:06.68\00:28:09.22 Here Ellen White says: 00:28:09.25\00:28:10.95 Now what I want to do is go through the history of the 00:28:38.15\00:28:40.92 United States to show you that in its founding documents 00:28:40.95\00:28:44.95 you have this idea of one nation, 00:28:44.99\00:28:47.22 composed of two kingdoms, separate one from the other. 00:28:47.26\00:28:51.49 Now the history of the United States can be divided into two 00:28:51.53\00:28:55.03 great periods: the first period is known as the Colonial period, 00:28:55.06\00:29:01.00 and the second period is known as the Constitutional period. 00:29:01.04\00:29:06.44 You know, the Constitutional fathers: men such as George 00:29:06.47\00:29:10.61 Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, 00:29:10.65\00:29:15.88 and Benjamin Franklin knew three things. 00:29:15.92\00:29:19.22 These were the Constitutional fathers that arose 00:29:19.25\00:29:22.42 around the year 1798 to write the founding documents 00:29:22.46\00:29:25.53 of the United States. 00:29:25.56\00:29:26.90 They knew three things: first of all they knew the history of the 00:29:26.93\00:29:30.93 church in the middle ages. 00:29:30.97\00:29:32.30 In fact, do you know, that every founding document of the 00:29:32.33\00:29:36.60 United States: the Declaration of Independence, 00:29:36.64\00:29:38.64 the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights were all ratified 00:29:38.67\00:29:41.98 before the beast received its deadly wound? 00:29:42.01\00:29:44.28 As the first kingdom was coming to an end, or receiving its 00:29:44.31\00:29:50.39 deadly wound, the other kingdom, in its founding documents, 00:29:50.42\00:29:53.89 was rising to power. 00:29:53.92\00:29:55.62 That's very, very interesting. 00:29:55.66\00:29:57.46 And the founding fathers knew the history of the church 00:29:57.49\00:30:04.53 in the middle ages. 00:30:04.57\00:30:06.10 They also knew the history of the United States 00:30:06.13\00:30:09.87 in the Colonial period. 00:30:09.90\00:30:11.44 And they also knew their Bibles, as we're going to notice. 00:30:11.47\00:30:15.78 Now the Constitutional fathers knew, and they were living 00:30:15.81\00:30:20.22 at the end of the 1260 years, that when church and state are 00:30:20.25\00:30:24.29 joined together, the automatic result is persecution. 00:30:24.32\00:30:28.59 For example, they knew the history of John Hus, 00:30:28.62\00:30:31.56 that man who was convicted, and burned at the stake 00:30:31.59\00:30:35.76 for his religious convictions. 00:30:35.80\00:30:37.57 They knew, for example, that he had been kept in sub-human 00:30:37.60\00:30:41.30 conditions in prison squalor. 00:30:41.34\00:30:44.44 They knew that false witnesses were called to 00:30:44.47\00:30:47.61 testify against him. 00:30:47.64\00:30:49.41 They knew that he had violated no civil laws. 00:30:49.44\00:30:52.28 They knew that he was tried for the religious convictions 00:30:52.31\00:30:54.88 of his conscience. 00:30:54.92\00:30:56.25 They knew that he was called before a religious tribunal, 00:30:56.28\00:30:58.89 much like the Sanhedrin, at first. 00:30:58.92\00:31:01.46 He knew that that religious tribunal had pronounced a death 00:31:01.49\00:31:04.33 sentence against him. 00:31:04.36\00:31:05.69 And they knew that then they took him to the emperor to have 00:31:05.73\00:31:10.00 the emperor stamp his imprimatur upon the sentence of death. 00:31:10.03\00:31:15.07 And they knew that because of his religious convictions he was 00:31:15.10\00:31:18.17 burned at the stake. 00:31:18.21\00:31:19.54 They knew the history of the church in the middle ages, 00:31:19.57\00:31:22.71 when church and state were united or joined together. 00:31:22.74\00:31:25.98 I'd like to read you a few statements from this very 00:31:26.01\00:31:28.82 interesting book that I have. 00:31:28.85\00:31:30.19 It's called, Hus the Heretic 00:31:30.22\00:31:31.99 It's written by an individual called Poggius the Papist. 00:31:32.02\00:31:36.89 In fact, this is the man who was sent to arrest John Hus. 00:31:36.93\00:31:41.00 And, actually, as he watched the way that John Hus was 00:31:41.03\00:31:44.50 treated by the Roman Catholic Church, he actually came to 00:31:44.53\00:31:47.97 sympathize with John Hus, as against the church 00:31:48.00\00:31:50.94 that he represented. 00:31:50.97\00:31:52.31 Let me read about the conditions that John Hus was in because of 00:31:52.34\00:31:55.88 the convictions of his conscience 00:31:55.91\00:31:57.31 during the middle ages. 00:31:57.35\00:31:58.68 This is on page 19 of this book. 00:31:58.71\00:32:01.92 After a short while Hus was let out of his dungeon into a decent 00:32:01.95\00:32:06.69 chamber, but his feet almost refused to carry him. 00:32:06.72\00:32:10.13 He swayed as he walked. 00:32:10.16\00:32:12.49 Listless and unused to the day was the light of his eyes, 00:32:12.53\00:32:19.03 deathly pale his cheeks, and loose what was left of his 00:32:19.07\00:32:23.24 teeth, since 11 had fallen out due to the damp prison. 00:32:23.27\00:32:27.38 The nails on his fingers were terribly long, because he had 00:32:27.41\00:32:31.15 been unable to bite them off for many weeks. 00:32:31.18\00:32:34.15 Upon his skin was a crust of dirt, which exuded am 00:32:34.18\00:32:38.39 awful stench, and his otherwise brown hair fell in white 00:32:38.42\00:32:42.32 ringlets upon his rotting and torn garb. 00:32:42.36\00:32:45.79 This is an individual who belongs to the Roman Catholic 00:32:45.83\00:32:49.56 papacy describing this. 00:32:49.60\00:32:51.43 His shoes had rotted upon his feet, and his shirt and 00:32:51.47\00:32:55.07 loincloth had vanished. 00:32:55.10\00:32:56.71 The rounded flesh which had covered his bones had shrunken, 00:32:56.74\00:33:00.48 and shriveled, and he had become a picture 00:33:00.51\00:33:03.51 of woe without equal, unrecognizable to those who 00:33:03.55\00:33:07.15 had known him before. 00:33:07.18\00:33:08.52 Horror filled those who looked upon him, and pitying people 00:33:08.55\00:33:12.85 prepared a bath for him, brought shirts and clothing, 00:33:12.89\00:33:15.89 and refreshed him with strengthening foods, for which 00:33:15.92\00:33:19.09 he could only thank with tearful eyes. 00:33:19.13\00:33:22.63 On page 28 we find this statement: With the clock 00:33:22.66\00:33:28.27 striking 8, and the bells telling, the procession of 00:33:28.30\00:33:32.71 Bishops, Cardinals, and Fathers... 00:33:32.74\00:33:34.74 See this is, they're taking him to his trial now, 00:33:34.78\00:33:36.85 to his religious trial. 00:33:36.88\00:33:38.21 Notice who he's appearing before. 00:33:38.25\00:33:39.68 The procession of Bishops, Cardinals, and Fathers, 00:33:39.71\00:33:42.58 and Deputies moved towards the church where a chair 00:33:42.62\00:33:46.05 had been placed for Hus, about which the seats of the 00:33:46.09\00:33:49.32 gentlemen were arranged. 00:33:49.36\00:33:51.29 He was brought there for the convictions of his conscience. 00:33:51.33\00:33:54.66 He had violated absolutely no civil laws. 00:33:54.70\00:33:57.87 In fact when they gave him an opportunity to speak he said 00:33:57.90\00:34:03.24 this: God gave to Peter, His disciple... 00:34:03.27\00:34:08.38 And notice the terminology; very important. 00:34:08.41\00:34:10.35 God gave to Peter, His disciple, the key to open all hearts, 00:34:10.38\00:34:15.65 and to have enough faith with it, but not the sword. 00:34:15.68\00:34:21.86 God gave Peter the what? 00:34:21.89\00:34:23.59 He gave him the key to open hearts, but not the sword 00:34:23.63\00:34:28.90 to slay, as you slay, all those who do not accept your worldly 00:34:28.93\00:34:34.54 doctrines, and who evade them. 00:34:34.57\00:34:36.97 Did he understand what the sword is? 00:34:37.01\00:34:39.37 He most certainly understood what the sword was. 00:34:39.41\00:34:41.78 He said you haven't been given the sword. 00:34:41.81\00:34:43.48 You've been given the key to open the heavenly kingdom. 00:34:43.51\00:34:46.25 When the final vote was taken among the religious dignitaries, 00:34:46.28\00:34:50.82 31 votes were cast not guilty. 00:34:50.85\00:34:53.96 11 votes were cast for excommunication. 00:34:53.99\00:34:58.43 And 45 votes were cast for death. 00:34:58.46\00:35:02.46 And then he was taken to the Emperor, who had promised to 00:35:02.50\00:35:07.20 give him safe conduct back to his home, and he broke his word. 00:35:07.24\00:35:12.01 In fact there was a Count there, Count Slum who told the 00:35:12.04\00:35:17.55 Emperor... And I'd like to read the words that he spoke to the 00:35:17.58\00:35:21.15 Emperor as he was about to sign the death warrant for Hus. 00:35:21.18\00:35:27.09 This is what he said: Caesar... Notice he calls him Caesar. 00:35:27.12\00:35:32.29 Caesar desist from such doings. 00:35:32.33\00:35:34.40 Caesar, Caesar, do not write your name with blood. 00:35:34.43\00:35:37.60 But Poggius continues saying, But the Emperor's ears were 00:35:37.63\00:35:41.97 deaf, and were further closed by the Cardinals, Bishops, 00:35:42.00\00:35:46.01 and priests who crowded about him, kissed the hem of his 00:35:46.04\00:35:49.51 garments, and praised his name when he seized the quill 00:35:49.54\00:35:53.55 and wrote his name. 00:35:53.58\00:35:55.18 And Hus was taken, and he was burned at the stake. 00:35:55.22\00:35:58.72 You know, I've been in the Palace of the Inquisition 00:35:58.75\00:36:01.89 in Lima, Peru. It's a depressing experience. 00:36:01.92\00:36:06.49 They actually have models where they show the types of torture 00:36:06.53\00:36:10.67 that were used against people for no reason other than they 00:36:10.70\00:36:14.57 did not agree with the church. 00:36:14.60\00:36:16.34 Torture and death; some were even burned at the stake, 00:36:16.37\00:36:21.31 like John Hus was burned at the stake. 00:36:21.34\00:36:23.55 And it wasn't the church who did it, but the church used the 00:36:23.58\00:36:27.02 sword of the state in order to accomplish its purpose. 00:36:27.05\00:36:30.85 You see, the Constitutional fathers not only knew the 00:36:30.89\00:36:34.16 history of Europe, when church and state are joined together, 00:36:34.19\00:36:36.22 they also knew the history of the Colonial period 00:36:36.26\00:36:39.26 in the United States. 00:36:39.29\00:36:40.63 You know, there are many people who misunderstand, 00:36:40.66\00:36:43.03 or don't understand the Colonial period. 00:36:43.06\00:36:44.80 Do you know that during the Colonial period, which begins 00:36:44.83\00:36:47.44 around 1620 when the pilgrims arrived in the United States, 00:36:47.47\00:36:51.77 atheists, Jews, Quakers, and Baptists were deprived of their 00:36:51.81\00:36:56.98 religious rights, because they did not agree with the 00:36:57.01\00:36:59.41 established church of the Colonies, which was the Puritan, 00:36:59.45\00:37:02.55 or was the Anglican Church. 00:37:02.58\00:37:04.39 Did you know that there were Sunday laws in the Colonies, 00:37:04.42\00:37:07.76 and if you didn't go to church on Sunday, you could be whipped, 00:37:07.79\00:37:10.13 you could be fined, you could be jailed? 00:37:10.16\00:37:12.26 And in the case of three Colonies, you could be executed 00:37:12.29\00:37:15.36 for not coming to church on Sunday? 00:37:15.40\00:37:17.33 Did you know that they actually cut off the ears of Quakers 00:37:17.37\00:37:21.00 for coming back when they had been exiled from the Colonies? 00:37:21.04\00:37:24.17 If they came back once the cut off one ear. 00:37:24.21\00:37:26.34 If they came back the second time they cut 00:37:26.37\00:37:28.08 off the second ear. 00:37:28.11\00:37:29.44 And if they caught them the third time they executed them 00:37:29.48\00:37:31.71 for their religious convictions. 00:37:31.75\00:37:33.18 Did you know that: 00:37:33.21\00:37:34.55 And also the government paid the salaries of the ministers, 00:37:41.02\00:37:46.39 interestingly enough. 00:37:46.43\00:37:48.20 And so the church and the state were joined together, 00:37:48.23\00:37:51.37 and as a result you had persecution. 00:37:51.40\00:37:53.40 You know, many people know the story, for example, 00:37:53.44\00:37:55.97 of Roger Williams. 00:37:56.00\00:37:57.34 Roger Williams arrived in the Colonies in 1629. 00:37:57.37\00:38:00.21 He pastored a church there, but he started teaching separation 00:38:00.24\00:38:03.75 of church and state. 00:38:03.78\00:38:05.11 He said, There are to be two kingdoms in this country, 00:38:05.15\00:38:08.12 absolutely, but they're supposed to be separate one from another. 00:38:08.15\00:38:11.02 Because that's what Jesus taught. 00:38:11.05\00:38:12.69 Are you seeing what the two horns are? 00:38:12.72\00:38:14.12 Jesus said, Two kingdoms in the same nation, 00:38:14.16\00:38:17.39 separate, one from another. 00:38:17.43\00:38:19.46 And, of course, what he was teaching went over 00:38:19.49\00:38:21.90 like a lead balloon. 00:38:21.93\00:38:23.26 And so they banished him from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. 00:38:23.30\00:38:27.77 And he himself says that towards the end of 1635, 00:38:27.80\00:38:32.37 and the beginning of 1636, he had to flee for three weeks, 00:38:32.41\00:38:35.28 through huge show drifts to get out of the Massachusetts Bay 00:38:35.31\00:38:39.71 Colony, because he had been banished. 00:38:39.75\00:38:42.12 And if they found him in there they could throw him in prison, 00:38:42.15\00:38:44.32 or they could even execute him. 00:38:44.35\00:38:45.75 And so he ended up in Rhode Island, and he established the 00:38:45.79\00:38:49.82 Capital of Rhode Island, which is Providence. 00:38:49.86\00:38:52.76 That's interesting that he would call that city Providence. 00:38:52.79\00:38:56.56 And so the founding fathers knew the history of what happens when 00:38:56.60\00:39:01.94 church and state are united together in Europe. 00:39:01.97\00:39:04.54 They knew what happened when church and state are joined 00:39:04.57\00:39:07.78 together in the United States in the Colonial period. 00:39:07.81\00:39:11.71 They also knew their Bibles. 00:39:11.75\00:39:13.21 In several places they wrote about how they knew that because 00:39:13.25\00:39:16.99 the Jews allied themselves with the Roman state, that led to the 00:39:17.02\00:39:21.96 death of Jesus Christ. 00:39:21.99\00:39:23.32 They knew three things: they knew the history of Europe 00:39:23.36\00:39:26.03 in the middle ages, they knew the Colonial period, 00:39:26.06\00:39:28.56 and they knew their Bibles. 00:39:28.60\00:39:29.93 And they knew that when these two kingdoms become one 00:39:29.96\00:39:32.63 automatically there is persecution. 00:39:32.67\00:39:35.50 And so the Constitutional fathers, knowing this, 00:39:35.54\00:39:38.67 when the wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, 00:39:38.71\00:39:44.08 and the Constitution was ratified in 1787, 00:39:44.11\00:39:47.65 and the Bill of Rights, which are the first ten amendments 00:39:47.68\00:39:50.42 to the Constitution, was ratified in 1791. 00:39:50.45\00:39:53.32 They said, We're going to have a different system of government 00:39:53.36\00:39:57.26 in this nation that we're establishing. 00:39:57.29\00:39:59.13 We are going to have, yes, church and state, 00:39:59.16\00:40:02.76 but church and state are going to be separated 00:40:02.80\00:40:05.30 like Jesus taught: two kingdoms in one nation. 00:40:05.33\00:40:12.47 The same two kingdoms that Jesus Christ recognized. 00:40:12.51\00:40:17.51 And remember that this is taking place immediately before 00:40:17.55\00:40:20.52 the first beast received its deadly wound. 00:40:20.55\00:40:23.69 By the way, this idea of the separation of church and state 00:40:23.72\00:40:27.56 is known as Republicanism and Protestantism. 00:40:27.59\00:40:31.33 You see, during the middle ages, what happened is in civil 00:40:31.36\00:40:35.46 affairs the king was the law. 00:40:35.50\00:40:38.00 You know, whatever the king said, in civil matters, 00:40:38.03\00:40:41.14 that's what was done. 00:40:41.17\00:40:42.50 In religious matters whatever the Pope said, that was done. 00:40:42.54\00:40:47.04 In other words, all of the power flowed from up down. 00:40:47.08\00:40:50.11 But the Constitutional fathers said, We're going to try a 00:40:50.15\00:40:54.28 revolutionary experiment. 00:40:54.32\00:40:55.75 We're going to have not the power flow from up down, 00:40:55.78\00:40:59.15 from the king down to the people, so that they have to 00:40:59.19\00:41:01.12 jump when he says jump. 00:41:01.16\00:41:02.96 We're not going to have the power flow from the Pope down, 00:41:02.99\00:41:06.76 where everybody has to subject themselves blindly. 00:41:06.80\00:41:08.96 No, we're going to have a system of government where the power 00:41:09.00\00:41:12.07 flows down up; a government of the people, by the people, 00:41:12.10\00:41:17.57 and for the people; where there will be freedom of religion, 00:41:17.61\00:41:22.04 and where there'll be also freedom in civil matters. 00:41:22.08\00:41:26.88 It's interesting to notice Ellen White was born 29 years 00:41:26.92\00:41:30.65 after the deadly wound. 00:41:30.95\00:41:32.29 It's interesting to notice how she describes this idea 00:41:32.32\00:41:36.42 of the founding fathers. 00:41:36.46\00:41:37.79 In The Great Controversy, page 441, she says: 00:41:37.83\00:41:40.83 That has to do with civil power, right? 00:41:49.14\00:41:51.77 What kingdom does that have to do with? the religious power. 00:41:55.48\00:41:59.95 She continues saying: 00:41:59.98\00:42:01.38 How many kingdoms there? civil and religious liberty. 00:42:09.09\00:42:13.03 Did you catch this? 00:42:41.69\00:42:43.59 She's talking about civil matters, and what? 00:42:43.63\00:42:46.96 religious matters. She says: 00:42:47.00\00:42:49.20 Which, by the way, means a state without a king. 00:42:58.77\00:43:01.44 Which means a church without a Pope. 00:43:03.81\00:43:06.08 And now notice what she says: 00:43:09.72\00:43:11.65 What is the secret of the power and prosperity 00:43:16.52\00:43:19.66 of the United States? all the money we have? 00:43:19.69\00:43:21.56 all of the vast territory we have? 00:43:21.60\00:43:24.57 The powerful military that we have? 00:43:24.60\00:43:27.70 No, the secret of the power of this nation is found in the 00:43:27.74\00:43:31.81 two principles upon which it was established. 00:43:31.84\00:43:35.31 And she goes on to say that when these two principles are 00:43:35.34\00:43:39.68 repudiated... And we'll talk about this when we deal with 00:43:39.71\00:43:42.05 the image to the beast. 00:43:42.08\00:43:43.42 When these two principles are repudiated, that will lead to 00:43:43.45\00:43:46.72 national apostasy, and national apostasy will 00:43:46.76\00:43:50.03 lead to national ruin. 00:43:50.06\00:43:52.09 She also says in The Great Controversy, page 442, 00:43:52.13\00:43:57.87 I want to read you three statements from three 00:44:12.68\00:44:15.48 of the founding fathers. 00:44:15.52\00:44:16.85 First Benjamin Franklin. 00:44:16.89\00:44:18.59 You know, he had an interesting way of putting things. 00:44:18.62\00:44:21.16 This is what he said: When religion is good, I can see that 00:44:21.19\00:44:26.16 it will support itself. 00:44:26.19\00:44:27.53 And when it does not support itself, and God does not take 00:44:27.56\00:44:32.90 care to support it, so that its professors are obliged to 00:44:32.93\00:44:37.11 call for the help of the civil powers, tis a sign I apprehend, 00:44:37.14\00:44:41.74 of it being a bad one. 00:44:41.78\00:44:43.75 Was he right? Of course he was right. 00:44:43.78\00:44:47.58 He's talking about separation of church and state. 00:44:47.62\00:44:50.19 Notice these words that are etched on 00:44:50.22\00:44:52.22 the Jefferson Monument. 00:44:52.25\00:44:54.32 You can go to Washington, D. C., and go to the 00:44:54.36\00:44:56.59 Jefferson Monument. 00:44:56.62\00:44:57.96 These are the words that are etched in stone. 00:44:57.99\00:44:59.79 This is what he said: 00:44:59.83\00:45:01.30 Did Thomas Jefferson believe in the separation 00:45:39.77\00:45:42.40 of church and state? 00:45:42.44\00:45:43.77 Did he believe in two kingdoms? 00:45:43.81\00:45:45.14 Yes, separate from one another. 00:45:45.17\00:45:47.24 Notice the words of George Washington. 00:45:47.28\00:45:49.58 These are words from the Baptist Delegation, August 8, 1789. 00:45:49.61\00:45:55.28 Here Washington says: 00:45:55.32\00:45:57.25 Three of the founding fathers; Thomas Jefferson was actually 00:46:59.95\00:47:06.86 one of the architects of the Constitution 00:47:06.89\00:47:10.26 of the United States. 00:47:10.29\00:47:11.63 Let me ask you once again, Did these men believe in two 00:47:11.66\00:47:16.10 kingdoms within the same nation? Yes. 00:47:16.13\00:47:19.73 And sometimes I ask people when I lecture on this, 00:47:19.77\00:47:21.97 I say, Let me ask you, How many kingdoms are you citizens of? 00:47:22.00\00:47:27.81 How many countries are we in now? 00:47:27.84\00:47:31.75 We're in one country, right? 00:47:31.78\00:47:33.95 But how many kingdoms are we citizens of in one nation? 00:47:33.98\00:47:39.35 We are citizens of two kingdoms. 00:47:39.39\00:47:41.66 We have two passports. 00:47:41.69\00:47:43.02 One passport is a U. S. passport. 00:47:43.06\00:47:45.06 That's the civil passport. 00:47:45.09\00:47:48.26 And then we have the blood of the lamb, 00:47:48.30\00:47:49.80 which is the other passport. 00:47:49.83\00:47:51.17 You see we're citizens of one nation, 00:47:51.20\00:47:54.50 because we were born here, or we were naturalized here. 00:47:54.54\00:47:58.07 We're citizens of the other nation, 00:47:58.11\00:48:00.04 because of the new birth; we were born again. 00:48:00.08\00:48:03.98 And so we live in one nation, but within that one nation 00:48:04.01\00:48:08.18 there are two kingdoms that are to be ever what? 00:48:08.22\00:48:10.92 separate one from another. 00:48:10.95\00:48:12.95 You know, there are many Christian activists today 00:48:12.99\00:48:16.02 in the United States who say that the separation of church 00:48:16.06\00:48:20.30 and state was established so that the state could not 00:48:20.33\00:48:22.90 control the church. 00:48:22.93\00:48:24.27 But the history of the middle ages, and the history of the 00:48:24.30\00:48:26.90 colonial period shows that the reason why the founding fathers 00:48:26.94\00:48:30.14 separated church and state was because there was a danger 00:48:30.17\00:48:32.94 that the church should use the state 00:48:32.97\00:48:34.74 to accomplish her purposes. 00:48:34.78\00:48:36.81 Frequently Christian activists also will say, 00:48:36.85\00:48:39.85 Well, the expression separation of church and state is not found 00:48:39.88\00:48:44.02 anywhere in the Constitution. 00:48:44.05\00:48:45.85 And that's true. If you look in the Constitution for an 00:48:45.89\00:48:49.52 expression that says separation of church and state, 00:48:49.56\00:48:52.06 you're not going to find it. 00:48:52.09\00:48:53.43 But if you read the First Amendment to the Constitution 00:48:53.46\00:48:57.47 you're going to find that clearly in the First Amendment 00:48:57.50\00:49:01.24 is the idea of the separation of church and state; 00:49:01.27\00:49:04.67 of religion from politics. 00:49:04.71\00:49:06.31 Notice what the First Amendment says: 00:49:06.34\00:49:08.41 Now what part of no law don't you understand? 00:49:11.41\00:49:13.58 This is the first clause of the First Amendment. 00:49:20.56\00:49:23.93 In other words, it doesn't say that Congress can't make a law 00:49:27.56\00:49:30.60 establishing a church, or Congress can't make a law 00:49:30.63\00:49:35.64 establishing a religion. No. 00:49:35.67\00:49:38.24 It says Congress shall make no law respecting an 00:49:38.27\00:49:40.74 establishment of religion. 00:49:40.78\00:49:42.54 In other words, what the First Amendment forbids is not 00:49:42.58\00:49:46.38 favoring one church above another church, or one religion 00:49:46.41\00:49:50.19 above another religion. 00:49:50.22\00:49:51.55 The First Amendment forbids the Congress from enacting laws 00:49:51.59\00:49:55.72 that have anything to do with religion, period. 00:49:55.76\00:49:59.49 And so the First Amendment, the first clause of the 00:49:59.53\00:50:01.63 First Amendment says: 00:50:01.66\00:50:03.00 And then you have the second clause: 00:50:06.07\00:50:07.80 That's known as the establishment clause, 00:50:10.94\00:50:15.08 and the free exercise clause. 00:50:15.11\00:50:16.75 In other words, the government can't tell you to worship 00:50:16.78\00:50:19.28 in a certain way, and the government can't forbid you 00:50:19.31\00:50:22.08 to worship in the way that your conscience tells you to worship. 00:50:22.12\00:50:25.99 Let me ask you, Does that very clearly, and obviously, 00:50:26.02\00:50:30.49 establish a separation between church and state? 00:50:30.53\00:50:32.83 It most certainly does, because the First Amendment says that 00:50:32.86\00:50:36.53 Congress can't make any law having to do with religion. 00:50:36.56\00:50:39.20 It cannot tell you to practice religion in a certain way, 00:50:39.23\00:50:43.64 and it can't forbid you from practicing your 00:50:43.67\00:50:45.67 religion in a certain way. 00:50:45.71\00:50:47.18 In other words, there's a separation between 00:50:47.21\00:50:49.34 the civil power and the religious power. 00:50:49.38\00:50:52.48 James Madison, who is known as the father of the Constitution, 00:50:52.51\00:50:56.65 had this to say about the Constitution, 00:50:56.69\00:51:01.42 and the relationship between religion and government. 00:51:01.46\00:51:04.09 He said this: 00:51:04.13\00:51:05.46 That is with religion. 00:51:15.07\00:51:16.40 Is that clear? In 1797 the United States signed a treaty, 00:51:27.98\00:51:34.26 it's known as the Treaty of Tripoli. 00:51:34.29\00:51:35.79 It's was actually approved by President John Adams. 00:51:35.82\00:51:38.93 And this is what the Treaty of Tripoli said. 00:51:38.96\00:51:41.20 This is only a portion of the treaty. 00:51:41.23\00:51:42.70 Now we need to understand that it was founded upon this 00:51:50.24\00:51:53.64 idea of two principles: separation of church and state, 00:51:53.68\00:51:56.34 separation of civil matters from religious matters. 00:51:56.38\00:51:59.65 But that doesn't mean that the United States was founded 00:51:59.68\00:52:02.72 as a Christian nation. 00:52:02.75\00:52:04.09 It was founded as a nation of Christians. 00:52:04.12\00:52:07.02 It's different to say that it was a Christian nation 00:52:07.06\00:52:10.03 than to say that it is a nation of Christians, where most of 00:52:10.06\00:52:13.29 the people, at that time at least, were Christians. 00:52:13.33\00:52:16.23 Now what about Thomas Jefferson? 00:52:16.26\00:52:18.00 In 1802 he wrote a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association, 00:52:18.03\00:52:23.41 and he used what is known as the metaphor of the wall. 00:52:23.44\00:52:27.54 And, actually, he probably got this metaphor "on the wall" 00:52:27.58\00:52:31.65 from Roger Williams long before him. 00:52:31.68\00:52:34.28 But he didn't give him credit if he did. 00:52:34.32\00:52:36.82 Notice what he had to say to the Danbury Baptists. 00:52:36.85\00:52:39.89 Do you know what, I think Thomas Jefferson knew much better what 00:53:19.93\00:53:23.30 the First Amendment to the Constitution meant than the 00:53:23.33\00:53:26.30 Christian Revisionists who want to rewrite it, 00:53:26.33\00:53:29.67 and reinterpret it today, because he was nearer 00:53:29.70\00:53:33.54 to the event, and he actually participated in it. 00:53:33.58\00:53:35.84 By the way, do you know that the third clause of the 00:53:35.88\00:53:39.11 First Amendment to the Constitution 00:53:39.15\00:53:40.98 has to do with civil rights? 00:53:41.02\00:53:42.48 Isn't it interesting that in the First Amendment you have these 00:53:42.52\00:53:45.25 two things: the first two clauses deal with religious 00:53:45.32\00:53:48.76 freedom, and the last part of the First Amendment 00:53:48.79\00:53:52.19 deals with civil liberty? 00:53:52.23\00:53:53.86 Thus encased, folks, within the First Amendment to the 00:53:53.90\00:53:58.33 Constitution, one of the founding documents 00:53:58.37\00:54:00.60 of the United States, you have this idea of two kingdoms: 00:54:00.64\00:54:04.44 in the Declaration of Independence, 00:54:04.47\00:54:06.94 in the Constitution, and in the Bill of Rights. 00:54:06.98\00:54:09.58 You have this idea of separation of church and state. 00:54:09.61\00:54:13.85 You know the third clause, having to do with civil liberty, 00:54:13.88\00:54:19.72 guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of the press, 00:54:19.75\00:54:23.43 freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government 00:54:23.46\00:54:28.40 for a redress of grievances. 00:54:28.46\00:54:30.23 Let me ask you, Are those civil rights? Yes. 00:54:30.27\00:54:32.70 And so in the First Amendment you have religious rights, 00:54:32.73\00:54:35.77 and you have civil rights, contained within 00:54:35.80\00:54:39.54 the same Amendment. 00:54:39.57\00:54:42.18 So what is it that is going to happen, 00:54:42.24\00:54:45.61 according to Bible prophecy? 00:54:45.65\00:54:47.15 According to Bible prophecy, this beast that arose from the 00:54:47.18\00:54:52.79 earth, that at first sustained the idea that this is one nation 00:54:52.82\00:55:00.46 having two kingdoms, separate from one another, 00:55:00.50\00:55:04.63 church and state, where you could be actually a citizen of 00:55:04.67\00:55:08.70 both within the same country; where Congress could make no law 00:55:08.74\00:55:12.44 respecting an establishment of religion, nor forbidding the 00:55:12.47\00:55:16.14 free exercise of religion. 00:55:16.18\00:55:17.95 Prophecy tells us that this nation is going to repudiate 00:55:17.98\00:55:22.35 those principles, because we're told in Revelation 13 that this 00:55:22.38\00:55:26.49 beast had two horns like a lamb, which we've clearly identified 00:55:26.52\00:55:30.59 as these two kingdoms, which represent the church and the 00:55:30.63\00:55:34.30 state, and they derive ideas of freedom of religion, 00:55:34.33\00:55:37.83 and also civil freedom. 00:55:37.87\00:55:40.94 What's going to happen is this country is going to repudiate 00:55:40.97\00:55:44.81 these two principles, and it is going to speak like a dragon. 00:55:44.84\00:55:50.51 In other words, it is going to become a persecuting power, 00:55:50.55\00:55:55.38 like the dragon tried to kill the child 00:55:55.42\00:55:58.25 when the child was born. 00:55:58.29\00:55:59.62 That was Rome, by the way. 00:55:59.65\00:56:01.59 Like the dragon tried to destroy the woman in the wilderness 00:56:01.62\00:56:05.59 during the 1260 years. 00:56:05.63\00:56:07.60 That was another Rome, by the way. 00:56:07.63\00:56:10.83 This same Rome, at the end of time, will recover the sword. 00:56:10.87\00:56:15.74 And the most unlikely of all nations will be the nation that 00:56:15.77\00:56:20.61 will return the sword to this sea beast, so that it can once 00:56:20.64\00:56:25.45 again persecute the saints of the Most High. 00:56:25.48\00:56:28.58 You know, I pray to God that this wouldn't happen. 00:56:28.62\00:56:33.36 That as people hear what I'm presenting, and watch it on 00:56:33.39\00:56:37.76 television, they'd say, Wow, This is an amazing history 00:56:37.79\00:56:42.16 of the United States of America. 00:56:42.20\00:56:44.03 We can't allow this to happen! 00:56:44.07\00:56:45.83 We cannot allow this church to use the United States of America 00:56:45.87\00:56:51.47 to accomplish such purposes. 00:56:51.51\00:56:53.24 We cannot have another Middle Ages. 00:56:53.27\00:56:56.44 We must stand firm with our principles upon which 00:56:56.48\00:57:01.28 our nation was established. 00:57:01.32\00:57:02.65 I pray to God that that would happen. 00:57:02.68\00:57:04.65 Bible prophecy tells us that as God has announced, 00:57:04.69\00:57:09.16 things are going to happen. 00:57:09.19\00:57:10.53 They happen because God knows the end from the beginning. 00:57:10.56\00:57:14.30 He does not determine them that way, but He knows that they're 00:57:14.33\00:57:17.83 going to occur, because He knows the end from the beginning. 00:57:17.87\00:57:21.30 I pray that in this final conflict we will choose to be 00:57:21.34\00:57:25.04 on the right side. 00:57:25.07\00:57:26.41
