Let's bow our heads for prayer. 00:00:30.76\00:00:32.13 Our Father and our God, what a joy it is to be 00:00:32.16\00:00:37.30 once again in Your presence. 00:00:37.33\00:00:38.67 We thank You for Your Holy Word which is a sure guide in a world 00:00:38.70\00:00:43.64 that is so confused. 00:00:43.67\00:00:45.01 We ask that as we study this evening about what it means 00:00:45.04\00:00:48.74 to glorify Your holy name, that You will be with us. 00:00:48.78\00:00:53.35 Speak to our hearts through the ministry of Your Holy Spirit. 00:00:53.38\00:00:56.79 Give us understanding, and give us a humble heart to receive 00:00:56.82\00:01:02.39 the word of truth. 00:01:02.42\00:01:03.76 And we thank You Father for hearing our prayer, 00:01:03.79\00:01:06.13 for we ask it in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:01:06.16\00:01:10.47 I'd like to begin by reading the verses that we've been 00:01:10.50\00:01:14.94 studying during our last sessions together: 00:01:14.97\00:01:17.64 Revelation 14:6, 7. 00:01:17.67\00:01:23.41 As you remember, we've studied ten great facts about the 00:01:23.45\00:01:28.02 three angel's messages. 00:01:28.05\00:01:29.38 We also studied about the everlasting gospel. 00:01:29.42\00:01:33.52 And in our last session we discussed what it 00:01:33.56\00:01:36.12 means to fear God. 00:01:36.16\00:01:37.63 Now in our session today we're going to talk about what it 00:01:37.66\00:01:40.90 means to give glory to God. 00:01:40.93\00:01:43.13 Let's read, once again, Revelation 14:6, 7. 00:01:43.16\00:01:48.74 In our session today we're going to study the second imperative 00:02:19.07\00:02:22.80 of the first angel's message. 00:02:22.84\00:02:24.31 In other words we have three commands in 00:02:24.34\00:02:27.38 the first angel's message. 00:02:27.41\00:02:28.81 The first command is to fear God. 00:02:28.84\00:02:31.31 The second command is to give glory to God. 00:02:31.35\00:02:34.25 And the third command is to worship God. 00:02:34.28\00:02:38.32 Now it's kind of strange, as we examine Scripture, 00:02:38.35\00:02:44.53 to find that we should give glory to God, 00:02:44.56\00:02:48.00 because the Bible explains to us that we really don't have 00:02:48.03\00:02:52.53 any glory to give. 00:02:52.57\00:02:53.90 In fact, go with me to Romans 3, and we're going to read 00:02:53.94\00:02:58.64 verse 23, Romans 3:23. 00:02:58.67\00:03:02.84 The question is, How can we give glory to God if we don't 00:03:02.88\00:03:06.98 have any glory in the first place? 00:03:07.02\00:03:09.22 How can I give what I don't have? 00:03:09.25\00:03:11.89 Notice Romans 3:23. It says: For all have sinned, 00:03:11.92\00:03:18.73 and fall short of the glory of God. 00:03:18.76\00:03:22.36 That expression, fall short, really means to lack. 00:03:22.40\00:03:26.90 In other words, what it's really saying is all have sinned, 00:03:26.94\00:03:31.04 and lack the glory of God, or don't have the glory of God. 00:03:31.07\00:03:35.94 So the question is, How can I give God glory if I don't 00:03:35.98\00:03:41.42 have glory in the first place, because sin has made me 00:03:41.45\00:03:45.99 lacking of the glory of God? 00:03:46.02\00:03:48.06 Well, in order to answer this question, we need to ask another 00:03:48.09\00:03:52.46 question, and dwell upon it for a period of time. 00:03:52.49\00:03:55.40 The other question is, What is God's glory? 00:03:55.43\00:04:00.34 In order to know how we can glorify God we must understand, 00:04:00.37\00:04:04.74 first of all, what God's glory is. 00:04:04.77\00:04:07.88 Now in the Bible God's glory is presented from two 00:04:07.91\00:04:11.88 different perspectives. 00:04:11.91\00:04:13.25 The first aspect of the glory of God is that brilliant, 00:04:13.28\00:04:19.55 overwhelming light that leads people to drop 00:04:19.59\00:04:24.16 like they're dead upon the earth. 00:04:24.19\00:04:26.03 For example, you remember when Jesus resurrected from the dead, 00:04:26.06\00:04:31.13 the Bible says that there was a great earthquake. 00:04:31.17\00:04:33.80 Two angels descended from heaven. 00:04:33.84\00:04:36.14 Mind you, these were angels; this wasn't God. 00:04:36.17\00:04:38.61 But two angels descended from heaven, and the Bible says 00:04:38.64\00:04:42.21 that the glory led the people at the tomb to fall upon the ground 00:04:42.24\00:04:47.58 as if they were dead. 00:04:47.62\00:04:48.95 In other words, this is the first aspect 00:04:48.98\00:04:51.02 of the glory of God: His light, unapproachable light, 00:04:51.05\00:04:55.39 as the Bible describes it in the book of James. 00:04:55.42\00:04:58.39 Now I'd like to read a passage where this aspect of the glory 00:04:58.43\00:05:02.76 of God is described: His external glory. 00:05:02.80\00:05:05.77 In other words, His radiant light. 00:05:05.80\00:05:08.30 Exodus 24:15-17. It's speaking about the experience at the 00:05:08.34\00:05:14.41 foot of mount Sinai, and it says this: 00:05:14.44\00:05:16.91 Notice the expression: 00:05:25.25\00:05:26.59 Thankfully, it covered it for six days, 00:05:33.09\00:05:35.70 because if God had taken away the cloud, nobody would have 00:05:35.73\00:05:39.23 been left alive. It continues saying, once again verse 16: 00:05:39.27\00:05:43.24 Now the glory of the Lord rested on mount Sinai, 00:05:43.27\00:05:46.21 This is God's glory that's like a raging, or a consuming fire. 00:06:03.26\00:06:07.96 It's His external, glorious light before which no human 00:06:08.00\00:06:12.57 being can stand and live. 00:06:12.60\00:06:14.97 But this is not the glory that the first angel's 00:06:15.00\00:06:18.14 message is describing. 00:06:18.17\00:06:19.77 Really, the type of glory that the first angel's message 00:06:19.81\00:06:24.08 is describing is something else that has to do with the internal 00:06:24.11\00:06:29.58 glory of God; if I can call it that. 00:06:29.62\00:06:31.69 It's not talking about His radiant, external light. 00:06:31.72\00:06:34.26 It's talking about His internal glory. 00:06:34.29\00:06:36.93 You see, God's external glory is simply an announcement of 00:06:36.96\00:06:43.37 another glory that He has deep within; a spiritual glory 00:06:43.40\00:06:47.04 that He has deep within. 00:06:47.07\00:06:48.40 It's kind of like Adam and Eve. 00:06:48.44\00:06:49.77 You know, they were covered with a glorious robe of light. 00:06:49.80\00:06:52.57 But that glorious robe of light represented their character, 00:06:52.61\00:06:56.61 their holiness, their innocence, their obedience 00:06:56.64\00:06:59.38 to the law of God. 00:06:59.41\00:07:00.75 And so God's radiant glory is really an external manifestation 00:07:00.78\00:07:04.85 of His inward character: His mercy, His love, His truth, 00:07:04.89\00:07:09.06 His faithfulness, His goodness. 00:07:09.09\00:07:12.06 Now in order to understand what the glory of God is, 00:07:12.09\00:07:15.73 and how we can give glory to God, we want to study 00:07:15.76\00:07:19.90 a little bit about Moses. 00:07:19.93\00:07:22.17 Did you know that Moses is a type, 00:07:22.20\00:07:25.21 or an illustration of Jesus? 00:07:25.24\00:07:27.21 Notice the book of Deuteronomy 18:18, Deuteronomy 18:18. 00:07:27.24\00:07:35.88 By the way, these verses are all on the sheet, so you can follow 00:07:35.92\00:07:40.09 along very easily. 00:07:40.12\00:07:41.46 It says there in Deuteronomy 18:18, 00:07:41.49\00:07:44.83 God is speaking. 00:07:47.56\00:07:48.90 That is like Moses. 00:07:50.47\00:07:51.80 Notice that God is promising that He's going to raise up 00:08:01.31\00:08:04.11 for Israel a prophet like Moses. 00:08:04.15\00:08:06.72 We're going to find a little bit later on that that prophet like 00:08:06.75\00:08:09.98 Moses actually is none less than Jesus Christ. 00:08:10.02\00:08:14.22 Now let's study a few things about Moses, who foreshadows, 00:08:14.26\00:08:18.83 or illustrates, or symbolizes Jesus Christ who would 00:08:18.86\00:08:23.00 come later in history. 00:08:23.03\00:08:24.70 Moses was at the top of mount Sinai, and actually he has spent 00:08:24.73\00:08:30.31 quite a long period there. 00:08:30.34\00:08:31.84 Now I want you to notice Exodus 33:18 the request 00:08:31.87\00:08:36.95 that Moses made to God. Exodus 33:18. 00:08:36.98\00:08:42.08 He's speaking to God. 00:08:45.25\00:08:46.65 What did Moses want to see? 00:08:50.86\00:08:52.76 He wanted to see God's glory. 00:08:52.79\00:08:55.03 So you would think that what God would do is take away the veil, 00:08:55.06\00:08:59.27 and show him His radiant, unapproachable light. 00:08:59.30\00:09:02.24 But that's not what God showed Moses. 00:09:02.27\00:09:04.27 You see, what God showed Moses was not His external, glorious, 00:09:04.31\00:09:08.44 radiant light, His robe of light. 00:09:08.48\00:09:10.65 What He showed him was His character. 00:09:10.68\00:09:13.45 Notice Exodus 33:19, the very next verse says, 00:09:13.48\00:09:19.32 God is speaking. 00:09:20.62\00:09:21.96 So Moses said, Show me Your glory, and God speaks to him 00:09:40.98\00:09:45.11 about His goodness, and about His graciousness, 00:09:45.15\00:09:49.45 and about His compassion. 00:09:49.48\00:09:51.35 In other words God is revealing to Moses His internal character. 00:09:51.39\00:09:55.96 His radiant light is the external manifestation of His 00:09:55.99\00:09:59.56 character; the different aspects of His character. 00:09:59.59\00:10:03.23 Notice Exodus 34:5-7; the same idea comes through once again. 00:10:03.26\00:10:10.07 Exodus 34:5-7. It says: 00:10:10.11\00:10:13.71 That is with Moses. 00:10:18.41\00:10:19.75 Did you notice in Exodus 33:19 that God said also that He was 00:10:22.88\00:10:27.32 going to proclaim His name? 00:10:27.36\00:10:28.69 This is an amplification of the verse that we 00:10:28.72\00:10:31.96 read in Exodus 33:19. Notice verse 6. 00:10:31.99\00:10:35.76 The same thing we found in Exodus 33:19. 00:10:37.80\00:10:40.44 Do you notice here that God is showing Moses His character? 00:11:11.97\00:11:16.14 He's talking to him about being merciful, gracious, 00:11:16.17\00:11:20.51 long-suffering, abounding in goodness and truth, 00:11:20.54\00:11:23.95 merciful, forgiving of iniquity, and by no means clearing 00:11:23.98\00:11:28.58 the guilty, which means He's also a God of justice, 00:11:28.62\00:11:31.99 according to Scripture, which is one of the 00:11:32.02\00:11:33.92 aspects of His character. 00:11:33.96\00:11:35.72 So in other words when Moses said, Lord show me Your glory, 00:11:35.76\00:11:40.56 God showed Moses His what? His character; 00:11:40.60\00:11:45.33 the manifestations of His character. 00:11:45.37\00:11:48.24 Now the glory of God, in the Bible, is manifested in His 00:11:48.27\00:11:52.27 goodness in creation, and in redemption. 00:11:52.31\00:11:55.48 It's God's glory to create, and to save, and to redeem. 00:11:55.51\00:12:00.95 Notice Psalm 19:1 so that you can see that God's handiwork, 00:12:00.98\00:12:06.12 God's work of creation is His glory, because it manifests 00:12:06.15\00:12:09.86 God's generosity, God's goodness, and God's mercy. 00:12:09.89\00:12:13.90 Psalm 19:1. This is a very well known verse. It says: 00:12:13.93\00:12:18.90 So notice that the glory of God is seen in His creation. 00:12:26.24\00:12:29.91 But according to the Bible, God's character is also seen 00:12:29.94\00:12:34.12 in His works of redemption or salvation. 00:12:34.15\00:12:37.05 Notice Psalm 79:9, Psalm 79:9. 00:12:37.09\00:12:42.56 Here Israel is praying to the Lord. 00:12:42.59\00:12:45.69 In other words, God's glory is revealed, according to this, 00:12:58.07\00:13:01.94 in salvation; it's revealed in atonement for sin, 00:13:01.98\00:13:06.08 and in delivering His people. 00:13:06.11\00:13:08.15 God is a God who loves to deliver and save His people, 00:13:08.18\00:13:12.12 and atone for their sins. 00:13:12.15\00:13:13.62 Notice Psalm 85:29, Psalm 85:29. 00:13:13.66\00:13:19.59 Once again the idea that salvation is God's glory, 00:13:19.63\00:13:23.43 because salvation is a manifestation 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.63 of God's character. 00:13:25.67\00:13:27.00 God loves to save people. 00:13:27.04\00:13:28.90 It says there in Psalm 85:29,... 00:13:28.94\00:13:31.54 Notice that when God saves, the glory of God 00:13:41.35\00:13:44.85 is found in the land. 00:13:44.89\00:13:47.16 So what God showed Moses, when Moses requested to see God's 00:13:47.19\00:13:51.39 glory, was God's character. 00:13:51.43\00:13:54.53 God showed Moses who He was; the traits of His very being. 00:13:54.56\00:14:00.44 Now it's interesting to notice what happened when Moses 00:14:00.47\00:14:03.81 came down from mount Sinai. 00:14:03.84\00:14:05.97 Notice Exodus 34:29, Exodus 34:29. 00:14:06.01\00:14:12.98 Something very peculiar happened with Moses when he came down 00:14:13.01\00:14:16.15 from the mountain, from being in the presence of God, 00:14:16.18\00:14:19.32 and from hearing about the character of God. It says there: 00:14:19.35\00:14:23.93 What happened with Moses when he came down from the mountain 00:14:45.11\00:14:47.82 after he had been with the Lord, and the Lord had proclaimed 00:14:47.85\00:14:50.79 His name, and God has shown him His character? 00:14:50.82\00:14:53.62 The Bible says that Moses, when he came down, his face shown. 00:14:53.66\00:14:58.56 Let me ask you, who's glory was shining in the face of Moses? 00:14:58.59\00:15:03.73 It was actually the glory of the Lord. 00:15:03.77\00:15:06.00 You see, the gory of the Lord is contagious. 00:15:06.03\00:15:09.27 When God shows His character, the character is reflected, 00:15:09.30\00:15:13.84 according to Scripture. 00:15:13.88\00:15:15.21 Notice Exodus 33:11, Exodus 33: 11. It says: 00:15:15.24\00:15:22.25 And, by the way, this was not the only time that Moses 00:15:32.36\00:15:35.46 was in the presence of the Lord. 00:15:35.50\00:15:36.83 You remember that he was in the land of Midian for forty years, 00:15:36.87\00:15:41.00 and he communed with God there on the mountain where later the 00:15:41.04\00:15:46.47 ten commandments were going to be revealed. 00:15:46.51\00:15:48.88 So Moses didn't spend only just a few days at the top 00:15:48.91\00:15:52.21 of the mountain, He spent years with God. 00:15:52.25\00:15:55.02 And the Bible says that when he spent this time with God 00:15:55.05\00:15:58.09 the glory of God was reflected in him. 00:15:58.12\00:16:01.89 In other words, the character of God is contagious. 00:16:01.92\00:16:06.19 Do you know that the glory that was on the face of Moses 00:16:06.23\00:16:09.26 was only an external manifestation of the fact that 00:16:09.30\00:16:12.53 the character of God had come into the life of Moses 00:16:12.57\00:16:16.27 as he spent time with God? 00:16:16.30\00:16:18.04 You say, How is that? 00:16:18.07\00:16:20.58 Well, notice what we find in Numbers 12:3. 00:16:20.61\00:16:23.81 The Bible has something to say very interesting about Moses. 00:16:23.85\00:16:26.41 Numbers 12:3. 00:16:26.45\00:16:29.95 You know, the King James Version says he was very what? 00:16:34.46\00:16:38.03 very meek. 00:16:38.06\00:16:39.89 Now do you know what the word meek means? 00:16:44.23\00:16:46.63 Let me give you a definition from the World Book Dictionary. 00:16:46.67\00:16:49.60 And then finally it gives the definition. 00:17:08.59\00:17:11.49 Let me ask you, Was Moses all of those things? 00:17:18.07\00:17:21.50 He most certainly was. 00:17:21.54\00:17:22.97 But I want to ask you this, was he that way during the first 00:17:23.00\00:17:27.31 forty years of his life in Egypt? 00:17:27.34\00:17:29.34 He was definitely not that. 00:17:29.38\00:17:31.88 In fact, let's notice what we find in Exodus 2:11, 12 before 00:17:31.91\00:17:37.29 he spent those forty years in Median with the Lord, 00:17:37.32\00:17:39.95 and before He was with Israel out in the wilderness. 00:17:39.99\00:17:42.29 He was a violent man. 00:17:42.32\00:17:43.79 He had a hot temper. 00:17:43.83\00:17:45.29 Because he had not spent the time with the Lord. 00:17:45.33\00:17:48.40 Notice Exodus 2:11, 12. 00:17:48.43\00:17:51.27 Let me ask you, Did Moses have a violent temper? 00:18:14.09\00:18:17.03 He most certainly did. 00:18:17.06\00:18:18.43 He arose and he killed this Egyptian which was beating up 00:18:18.46\00:18:22.40 one of his kin; in other words, one the people that 00:18:22.43\00:18:28.17 belonged to his nation. 00:18:28.20\00:18:29.87 You see, Moses, in Egypt, being surrounded by the glory, 00:18:29.90\00:18:34.28 and by the power, and by the fame of Egypt, had assimilated 00:18:34.31\00:18:38.75 the ideas and attitudes of Egypt. 00:18:38.78\00:18:40.88 And the life of Moses can be divided into three equal 00:18:40.92\00:18:44.95 forty year segments. 00:18:44.99\00:18:46.32 The first forty years when he assimilated the culture of 00:18:46.35\00:18:49.12 Egypt, and he reflected Egypt. 00:18:49.16\00:18:51.03 The second forty years where he spent with the Lord in Median 00:18:51.06\00:18:54.56 taking care of Jethro's sheep. 00:18:54.60\00:18:56.33 And there he spent time with God in the mountain, 00:18:56.36\00:18:58.63 and he became the meekest man on earth. 00:18:58.67\00:19:01.14 And then forty years in the wilderness tending God's 00:19:01.17\00:19:04.44 spiritual sheep, Israel, where he manifested that experience 00:19:04.47\00:19:08.78 that he had with God. 00:19:08.81\00:19:10.15 He manifested God's character in his life. 00:19:10.18\00:19:12.81 Let me ask you, Was Moses patient during those forty 00:19:12.85\00:19:16.25 years in the wilderness? 00:19:16.28\00:19:17.62 You know, one of the most marvelous stories that I find 00:19:17.65\00:19:20.26 in the whole Bible is the story of Moses as he led the children 00:19:20.29\00:19:26.16 of Israel through the desert to the promised land. 00:19:26.19\00:19:29.80 I mean these people were whining and complaining all the time. 00:19:29.83\00:19:33.20 I probably would have lost my temper in the first 00:19:33.23\00:19:37.51 day, but Moses didn't. 00:19:37.54\00:19:40.28 For forty years whenever Israel complained he said, Oh okay, 00:19:40.31\00:19:43.81 well let me consult with the Lord. 00:19:43.85\00:19:45.25 Listen, he was even willing to give up his life in order 00:19:45.28\00:19:48.48 to save Israel the Bible says, on mount Sinai. 00:19:48.52\00:19:51.82 So Moses had had a transformation in his life. 00:19:51.85\00:19:54.72 It's because he had spent time with God those forty years on 00:19:54.76\00:20:00.23 mount Horeb, because he had assimilated the character 00:20:00.26\00:20:04.50 of God. In other words the character of God had rubbed 00:20:04.53\00:20:07.10 off on Moses, if you please. 00:20:07.14\00:20:09.37 But do you know, as I mentioned, Moses was actually 00:20:09.40\00:20:13.68 a foreshadowing of One greater than Moses. 00:20:13.71\00:20:16.75 In other words, Moses actually represented someone who is 00:20:16.78\00:20:20.92 far greater who would come in the future, and that person 00:20:20.95\00:20:24.19 is none other than Jesus Christ. 00:20:24.22\00:20:26.82 Notice John 1:14, John 1:14. 00:20:26.86\00:20:34.40 Here we find the One greater than Moses. 00:20:34.43\00:20:37.97 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, 00:20:38.00\00:20:44.67 and we beheld His what? we beheld His glory, 00:20:44.71\00:20:50.61 the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, 00:20:50.65\00:20:55.88 full of grace and truth. 00:20:55.92\00:20:58.92 What was the glory of Jesus? it was His what? 00:20:58.95\00:21:01.66 His grace and His truth. 00:21:01.69\00:21:04.03 Are those character traits of God? 00:21:04.06\00:21:06.13 They most certainly are. 00:21:06.16\00:21:07.50 So what did Jesus come to reflect to the world? 00:21:07.53\00:21:10.50 Jesus came to reflect to the world His what? His glory, 00:21:10.53\00:21:14.64 which is His grace and His truth. 00:21:14.67\00:21:17.27 You know, what's interesting is that Jesus did not reflect 00:21:17.31\00:21:20.88 to the world His own glory. 00:21:20.91\00:21:22.44 He reflected to the world the glory of His Father. 00:21:22.48\00:21:26.28 You say, How do we know that? 00:21:26.31\00:21:28.05 Go with me to John 1:18, John 1:18. 00:21:28.08\00:21:34.52 That's an expression that means extreme closeness. 00:21:43.70\00:21:47.07 You know, you draw a baby close to your bosom. And so it says: 00:21:47.10\00:21:51.21 Is there anyone in the Universe that could have declared what 00:21:57.61\00:22:00.42 God the Father is like other than Jesus? 00:22:00.45\00:22:03.65 Absolutely not, because Jesus had this intimate relationship 00:22:03.69\00:22:07.29 with His Father, and when Jesus came to this world He came to 00:22:07.32\00:22:10.46 reflect to this world the glory of His Father that people, 00:22:10.49\00:22:14.16 as they saw His glory, would give honor 00:22:14.20\00:22:17.20 and glory to His Father. 00:22:17.23\00:22:19.43 In fact, notice John 7:18, John 7:18. 00:22:19.47\00:22:25.57 Jesus came to reflect the Father's glory. 00:22:25.61\00:22:28.41 In other words, when people saw Jesus they were to say, 00:22:28.44\00:22:31.31 Glory be to God! They were to give honor 00:22:31.35\00:22:33.95 and glory to the Father. 00:22:33.98\00:22:35.32 Notice John 7:18. Jesus says, 00:22:35.35\00:22:39.29 Who is the One who sent Him? God the Father. 00:22:48.76\00:22:51.33 Whose glory did Jesus seek? 00:22:51.37\00:22:52.90 Let me ask you, Did Jesus reveal in a perfect way, 00:22:59.77\00:23:03.35 and reflect the glorious and wonderful character 00:23:03.38\00:23:06.95 of His Father when Jesus was in this world? 00:23:06.98\00:23:09.72 He most certainly did. 00:23:09.75\00:23:11.12 Now why did Jesus do this? 00:23:11.15\00:23:13.69 Because as Moses, the Lord Jesus spent time with His Father. 00:23:13.72\00:23:20.80 You see, Moses came to reflect the glory of Jesus, 00:23:20.83\00:23:25.30 actually on mount Sinai, because the glory of Jesus 00:23:25.33\00:23:28.64 rubbed off on Moses, and now Moses reflected 00:23:28.67\00:23:31.37 the character of Jesus. 00:23:31.41\00:23:32.74 But Jesus, the One greater than Moses, comes to this earth 00:23:32.77\00:23:36.51 and He reflects the glory of His Father in His character 00:23:36.54\00:23:40.68 to those He comes in contact with; not to bring glory and 00:23:40.72\00:23:43.99 honor to Himself, but to bring honor and glory to His Father. 00:23:44.02\00:23:48.12 And it's because Jesus spent tine with His Father 00:23:48.16\00:23:51.86 that the character of His Father was reflected in His life. 00:23:51.89\00:23:55.00 Notice Matthew 14:23, 24, Matthew 14:23, 24. 00:23:55.03\00:24:01.50 You see, as Moses spent time with God on a mountain, 00:24:01.54\00:24:04.67 Jesus spent time with His Father on a mountain, too. 00:24:04.71\00:24:07.18 It says there, And when he had sent the multitudes away, 00:24:07.21\00:24:11.68 he went up on the mountain by himself to what? to pray. 00:24:11.71\00:24:18.15 Now when evening came he was alone there. 00:24:18.19\00:24:21.79 You see, He was in communion with His Father through prayer. 00:24:21.82\00:24:25.99 Notice Mark 1:35, Mark 1:35. 00:24:26.03\00:24:30.93 Once again it speaks about the prayer habits of Jesus; 00:24:30.97\00:24:34.04 the communion, the close, the intimacy that Jesus 00:24:34.07\00:24:37.11 had with His Father. Mark 1:35 says: 00:24:37.14\00:24:40.41 Notice that. 00:24:46.21\00:24:47.55 And that's the reason why when Jesus went out in the morning, 00:24:56.32\00:24:59.93 after He had prayed all night, He came out and He had 00:24:59.96\00:25:02.63 the radiance of His Father on His face. 00:25:02.66\00:25:05.47 And as He performed His miracles the people said, 00:25:05.50\00:25:08.67 God is definitely with this man, because He was reflecting 00:25:08.70\00:25:12.71 the glory of His Father. 00:25:12.74\00:25:14.08 And by reflecting the glory of His Father, He was actually 00:25:14.11\00:25:17.15 bringing glory and honor to Him. 00:25:17.18\00:25:19.35 He was giving glory to His Father by reflecting 00:25:19.38\00:25:23.35 the glory of His Father. 00:25:23.39\00:25:24.82 In fact, notice 2 Corinthians 4: 6, where we're told that the 00:25:24.85\00:25:30.06 glory that Jesus had on His face was the glory of His Father. 00:25:30.09\00:25:33.60 It says: 00:25:33.63\00:25:34.96 Notice, God wants to give His glory where? 00:25:47.54\00:25:50.75 Why did Jesus reflect the glory of His Father? 00:25:54.08\00:25:57.35 Why did Jesus bring glory to His Father? 00:25:57.39\00:25:59.32 Why did He give glory to His Father? 00:25:59.35\00:26:00.92 Because He received the glory from His Father, and He gave it 00:26:00.96\00:26:03.89 to human beings in the form of God's character. 00:26:03.93\00:26:06.29 Therefore when people saw His character they 00:26:06.33\00:26:09.00 gave glory to whom? 00:26:09.03\00:26:10.77 They gave glory to God. 00:26:10.80\00:26:12.37 Now it's interesting to notice, if you go with me to 00:26:12.40\00:26:15.20 John 14:8-11, what Jesus had to say to one of His disciples. 00:26:15.24\00:26:20.68 This is to His disciple Phillip, because Phillip said, 00:26:20.71\00:26:24.58 We want to see the Father. 00:26:24.61\00:26:26.51 Show us the Father. 00:26:26.55\00:26:27.88 And you know this passage: John 14:8. 00:26:27.92\00:26:31.89 And when people saw the works that Jesus performed, 00:27:09.66\00:27:12.16 who did they glorify? 00:27:12.19\00:27:13.53 They said, Oh this is a great man! 00:27:13.56\00:27:15.50 Well, some people did! 00:27:15.53\00:27:16.97 But what God wanted is that people as they saw Jesus 00:27:17.00\00:27:20.27 revealing the character of the Father to the world, 00:27:20.30\00:27:23.00 that they would say, What a wonderful God 00:27:23.04\00:27:25.54 He is representing to the world. 00:27:25.57\00:27:27.41 You know, it kind of reminds me; my favorite national park in the 00:27:27.44\00:27:32.11 United States is Grand Teton National Park. 00:27:32.15\00:27:34.78 It's in North Western Wyoming. 00:27:34.82\00:27:36.99 And, you know, there's this place that I like to go 00:27:37.02\00:27:39.55 to when I go there. 00:27:39.59\00:27:40.92 I haven't been there for several years. 00:27:40.96\00:27:42.29 Ah, where you have a beautiful lake, and then behind the lake 00:27:42.32\00:27:46.33 you have a beautiful snow capped rugged mountain, and you have 00:27:46.36\00:27:50.17 beautiful pine trees in the back ground. 00:27:50.20\00:27:52.53 I've been there in the morning when there is just absolutely 00:27:52.57\00:27:56.27 not one little bit of wind, and the sun is out, 00:27:56.30\00:28:00.64 and it's just beautiful. 00:28:00.68\00:28:02.81 And, you know, I've taken pictures of that place. 00:28:02.84\00:28:04.85 And when the picture is developed, or when the picture 00:28:04.88\00:28:09.72 was developed, you know, I didn't know which side was up, 00:28:09.75\00:28:13.02 and which side was down, because the reflection in the lake was 00:28:13.05\00:28:16.62 so perfect. The lake was absolutely so calm, mirror like, 00:28:16.66\00:28:21.90 that you didn't know which was up and which was down. 00:28:21.93\00:28:24.67 That's the way in which Jesus revealed 00:28:24.70\00:28:28.50 the glory of His Father. 00:28:28.54\00:28:30.07 In fact, Jesus revealed the glory of the Father 00:28:30.11\00:28:33.21 in the actions that He performed, 00:28:33.24\00:28:35.71 revealing the character of God. 00:28:35.74\00:28:37.31 For example, do you know that people in those days actually 00:28:37.35\00:28:40.45 believed that God made people sick to get even with them 00:28:40.48\00:28:43.42 because of their sin? 00:28:43.45\00:28:44.79 Do you remember the disciples once asked, Who sinned, 00:28:44.82\00:28:47.96 this man or his parents that he was born blind? 00:28:47.99\00:28:50.79 They thought that lepers were cursed by God. 00:28:50.83\00:28:53.23 In fact they called leprosy the finger of God. 00:28:53.26\00:28:55.46 See God wants to get even with people who sin. 00:28:55.50\00:28:57.93 Well Jesus came to contest that, and to show that it's just 00:28:57.97\00:29:01.50 the opposite; that God loves the human being, 00:29:01.54\00:29:04.27 and He wants them to be well. 00:29:04.31\00:29:05.97 In fact, do you know that the miracles of Jesus in favor of 00:29:06.01\00:29:10.05 the sick are called His glory in the Bible? 00:29:10.08\00:29:13.92 Notice John 2:11, John 2:11. 00:29:13.95\00:29:20.36 This is when He turned the water into wine. 00:29:25.86\00:29:27.63 And what did He do? 00:29:27.66\00:29:29.26 When Jesus performed this miracle what did He reveal? 00:29:29.30\00:29:38.84 He revealed His glory, which was whose glory? 00:29:38.87\00:29:41.64 the glory of His Father. 00:29:41.68\00:29:43.85 Do you remember when Jesus resurrected Lazarus? 00:29:43.88\00:29:47.18 Notice John 11:4, and then we're going to jump down to verse 40. 00:29:47.22\00:29:52.95 John 11:4. When Jesus heard that He said... 00:29:52.99\00:29:58.69 When He heard that Lazarus was sick He says, This sickness is 00:29:58.73\00:30:03.30 not unto death, but for what? but for the glory of God. 00:30:03.33\00:30:08.50 God's going to manifest His glory in this event. 00:30:08.54\00:30:11.27 Notice verse 40: 00:30:11.31\00:30:12.91 Let me ask you, Is it the glory of God to heal the sick 00:30:24.75\00:30:28.79 and to help the needy? 00:30:28.82\00:30:30.46 Yes, because God is revealing His character through 00:30:30.49\00:30:35.06 the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:30:35.10\00:30:36.60 In fact, if you read with me in Acts 10:38, Acts 10:38, 00:30:36.63\00:30:43.24 it speaks about the marvelous works of Jesus. It says there: 00:30:43.27\00:30:46.78 Why did Jesus perform all these works? because God was what? 00:31:00.96\00:31:04.83 God was with Him. He was revealing the character of God. 00:31:04.86\00:31:09.36 He was revealing the glory of God. 00:31:09.40\00:31:11.03 And as people saw the glory of God, they understood better what 00:31:11.07\00:31:15.30 God was like, and therefore they gave glory to God. 00:31:15.34\00:31:18.21 In fact you'll notice on your list of texts 00:31:18.24\00:31:21.08 that I have Luke 13:13. 00:31:21.61\00:31:23.31 There you have a woman who had bent over for eighteen years. 00:31:23.35\00:31:25.98 She couldn't straighten out. 00:31:26.01\00:31:27.35 And the Bible says that when Jesus manifested His glory, 00:31:27.38\00:31:29.98 and healed her, we're told that the people gave glory to God. 00:31:30.02\00:31:34.62 Because Jesus had revealed the glory of God. 00:31:34.66\00:31:37.39 In Luke 17:15, when Jesus healed the ten lepers, one man came 00:31:37.43\00:31:42.16 back and he gave glory to God for his healing. 00:31:42.20\00:31:45.23 Because God had revealed His glory through 00:31:45.27\00:31:47.60 this marvelous miracle. 00:31:47.64\00:31:49.60 In Luke 18:43 we find a blind man that was healed. 00:31:49.64\00:31:54.28 And once again the people gave glory to God because 00:31:54.31\00:31:57.25 God had manifested His glory in healing this man. 00:31:57.28\00:32:01.35 And even when Jesus resurrected the son of the widow of Nain, 00:32:01.38\00:32:05.69 the Bible says that the people gave glory to God, 00:32:05.72\00:32:08.76 because Jesus had manifested the glory of God. 00:32:08.79\00:32:12.29 In fact, when Jesus got to the end of His life, He raised that 00:32:12.33\00:32:16.26 beautiful prayer to His Father that we find in John 17. 00:32:16.30\00:32:19.80 And I'm going to read verse 4, and then I'm going to read 00:32:19.83\00:32:22.64 verses 22 and 23. John 17:4. 00:32:22.67\00:32:26.81 Notice what Jesus says. 00:32:26.84\00:32:28.38 In other words, I have given You glory, is what Jesus is saying. 00:32:32.38\00:32:35.22 How did Jesus give glory to the Father? by revealing His glory, 00:32:35.25\00:32:38.32 right? By revealing His character of glory, 00:32:38.35\00:32:41.06 He's giving glory to His Father, so He says: 00:32:41.09\00:32:43.86 Verse 22: 00:32:49.53\00:32:50.87 Are you understanding this? 00:32:54.10\00:32:55.44 The glory that the Father gave to Jesus, Jesus gave to them. 00:32:55.47\00:32:59.27 In fact, do you know that the Bible tells us that Jesus called 00:33:18.19\00:33:21.63 His death the ultimate manifestation 00:33:21.66\00:33:24.00 of the glory of God? Why? 00:33:24.03\00:33:26.63 Because Jesus in the death of Jesus you have the most 00:33:26.67\00:33:29.34 marvelous revelation of God's character. 00:33:29.37\00:33:31.77 Because He's showing His love by Jesus dying in our place, 00:33:31.81\00:33:35.94 and He's also showing His justice, 00:33:35.98\00:33:38.28 because sin is being punished. 00:33:38.31\00:33:40.42 In other words, on the cross the character of God is revealed 00:33:40.45\00:33:43.28 such as never before. 00:33:43.32\00:33:44.65 Notice John 12:23, 24. 00:33:44.69\00:33:48.69 Or it produces much fruit. 00:34:06.04\00:34:08.34 Now we've talked about Moses. 00:34:08.38\00:34:10.78 You see, Moses spent time in communion with God. 00:34:10.81\00:34:16.35 He reflected the glory of God to the people in manifesting 00:34:16.38\00:34:21.59 the same character of the God that he knew on the mount. 00:34:21.62\00:34:24.26 Jesus came to this world, and by revealing the character 00:34:24.29\00:34:28.46 of His Father, He showed people what the character 00:34:28.50\00:34:31.43 of God is really like. 00:34:31.47\00:34:32.87 But, of course, the question is, What about us? 00:34:32.90\00:34:36.24 Because the first angel's message says that we are 00:34:36.27\00:34:39.87 supposed to give glory to God. 00:34:39.91\00:34:41.54 Now how do we give glory to God? 00:34:41.58\00:34:44.51 Well, notice John 8:12. 00:34:44.55\00:34:48.98 The Bible calls Jesus the Son of Righteousness. 00:34:49.02\00:34:53.49 And the reason why Jesus is called light 00:34:53.52\00:34:56.99 is because He is the sun; not literally speaking, 00:34:57.03\00:35:00.90 but symbolically speaking. John 8:12. 00:35:00.93\00:35:03.90 Who is the light of the world? Jesus is. 00:35:18.98\00:35:21.85 But what happens when we receive Jesus Christ? 00:35:21.88\00:35:24.75 It says that we have the light of life. 00:35:24.79\00:35:29.52 Now interestingly enough, the Bible not only says that Jesus 00:35:29.56\00:35:33.40 is the light of the world, the Bible also says that we are 00:35:33.43\00:35:36.43 supposed to be the light of the world. 00:35:36.46\00:35:37.80 Well now you say, Wait a minute! 00:35:37.83\00:35:39.27 We don't have any light to give, do we? 00:35:39.30\00:35:41.24 We only have the light that we receive from God; 00:35:41.27\00:35:44.47 that we received from Jesus Christ. 00:35:44.51\00:35:46.04 In fact, notice Matthew 5:14-16. 00:35:46.07\00:35:51.38 It says, Jesus is speaking to us. 00:35:51.41\00:35:54.68 He said, I am the light of the world, but now He says, 00:35:54.72\00:35:57.85 Now how can He be the light of the world 00:36:00.29\00:36:02.56 and us the light of the world? 00:36:02.59\00:36:03.93 Well, let me give you an illustration before I finish 00:36:03.96\00:36:06.39 reading this passage. 00:36:06.43\00:36:08.16 You know, you go out in the daytime and you see the sun, 00:36:08.20\00:36:11.80 right? Usually you can't see the moon. 00:36:11.83\00:36:15.94 Once in a while you can, but you can't see the moon. 00:36:15.97\00:36:18.17 At night you go out and you see the moon. 00:36:18.21\00:36:22.88 And we say, Ah, look at that moon! 00:36:22.91\00:36:25.38 Beautiful full moon! 00:36:25.41\00:36:26.92 How beautiful the moon is tonight. 00:36:26.95\00:36:28.58 But let me tell you something, the moon would not be beautiful 00:36:28.62\00:36:33.22 unless it received the light from the sun. 00:36:33.25\00:36:35.92 The moon is beautiful because its light comes from the sun. 00:36:35.96\00:36:40.23 In other words, because the moon is in contact with the sun, 00:36:40.26\00:36:43.50 the moon reflects the light to the world. 00:36:43.53\00:36:45.73 That should be our relationship with Jesus. 00:36:45.77\00:36:48.07 You see, Jesus is the original light. 00:36:48.10\00:36:50.77 He has the pattern character. 00:36:50.81\00:36:52.87 And as we spend time with Him, He shines in our lives, 00:36:52.91\00:36:56.58 and then we shine His light to the world, but we don't have 00:36:56.61\00:37:00.18 original light, we have reflected light. 00:37:00.22\00:37:03.12 Now let's finish reading this passage. Jesus says, 00:37:03.15\00:37:06.65 nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, 00:37:11.26\00:37:14.90 but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all 00:37:14.93\00:37:18.40 who are in the house. 00:37:18.43\00:37:19.77 Notice, He's talking about us. 00:37:24.34\00:37:26.01 What? What is the light? 00:37:30.75\00:37:33.11 The light is our good works. 00:37:33.18\00:37:35.05 And then they're going to say, Oh, look at Pastor Bohr. 00:37:35.08\00:37:39.89 He's such a great guy. 00:37:39.92\00:37:41.26 He's got such a wonderful character, doesn't he? 00:37:41.29\00:37:44.16 Is that what they're going to say? 00:37:44.19\00:37:45.53 Notice what the verse finishes saying; verse 16. 00:37:45.56\00:37:48.86 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your 00:37:48.90\00:37:53.77 good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 00:37:53.80\00:37:57.67 Where do the good works come from? 00:37:57.71\00:37:59.87 The good works come from God, and that's why 00:37:59.91\00:38:02.41 people glorify God. 00:38:02.44\00:38:03.78 They don't glorify us, because they see that we are merely 00:38:03.81\00:38:07.62 reflecting the character of God in our lives. 00:38:07.65\00:38:10.72 Notice 1 Peter 2:12, 1 Peter 2: 12. It says there: 00:38:10.75\00:38:18.19 Notice it's talking about behavior. 00:38:29.80\00:38:31.47 See, the good works is referring to our character. 00:38:44.79\00:38:47.79 So as we reflect the glory of God to the world, the world sees 00:38:57.57\00:39:01.80 us and they say, Wow, what a wonderful God that pastor 00:39:01.84\00:39:05.67 serves, because we are reflecting the character of God. 00:39:05.71\00:39:09.18 We're giving glory to God because we're 00:39:09.21\00:39:11.68 reflecting His glory. 00:39:11.71\00:39:13.05 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:39:13.08\00:39:15.02 Now notice John 15:8, John 15:8. 00:39:15.05\00:39:20.72 Here Jesus is speaking about the vine and its 00:39:20.76\00:39:23.93 branches, and He says, 00:39:23.96\00:39:25.36 Do you want to know how we glorify God, 00:39:28.23\00:39:30.10 how we glorify the Father, how we give glory to Him: 00:39:30.13\00:39:33.03 the first angel's message? 00:39:33.07\00:39:34.40 Jesus says, By this My Father is glorified that you bear much 00:39:34.44\00:39:39.31 what? much fruit so you will be My disciples. 00:39:39.34\00:39:44.18 Let me ask you, What is that fruit that we 00:39:44.21\00:39:47.82 reflect in our lives. 00:39:47.85\00:39:49.55 Jesus says, My Father is glorified if 00:39:49.58\00:39:52.25 you bear much fruit. 00:39:52.29\00:39:53.62 What is that fruit? 00:39:53.66\00:39:54.99 The fruit is the character, folks. 00:39:55.02\00:39:57.23 Notice Galatians 5:22-24, Galatians 5:22-24. 00:39:57.26\00:40:03.20 You tell me if these are characteristics of a person's 00:40:03.23\00:40:06.40 being, or a person's character when the Holy Spirit has entered 00:40:06.43\00:40:09.90 the life, and we reflect the glory of Jesus. 00:40:09.94\00:40:12.54 It says there: But the fruit of the Spirit... notice fruit... 00:40:12.57\00:40:16.01 Jesus says that we glorify God by producing fruit. 00:40:16.04\00:40:19.35 Now the apostle Paul says, But the fruit 00:40:19.38\00:40:21.52 of the Spirit is love. 00:40:21.55\00:40:23.39 Is that a character trait? Yes, it is. 00:40:23.42\00:40:26.86 Joy, is that a character trait? Absolutely. 00:40:26.89\00:40:29.69 Peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 00:40:29.72\00:40:36.30 gentleness, self-control, against such there is no law. 00:40:36.33\00:40:42.80 In other words, when we're producing the fruit of the 00:40:42.84\00:40:44.77 Holy Spirit in our lives, people see our life and they say, 00:40:44.81\00:40:47.34 Wow! Look at the God that that person serves! 00:40:47.38\00:40:51.78 Look at what a sweet character he has; 00:40:51.81\00:40:53.95 what a sweet character she has. 00:40:53.98\00:40:55.85 In fact, do you know that the Bible says than when Peter died 00:40:55.88\00:40:59.15 as a martyr, he brought honor and glory to God? 00:40:59.19\00:41:01.82 Because he revealed God's faithfulness in his life. 00:41:01.86\00:41:05.79 He said, I'm going to be faithful unto death. 00:41:05.83\00:41:07.93 Notice that in John 21:18, 19, John 21:18, 19. 00:41:07.96\00:41:15.40 Here Jesus is speaking to Peter and He says this: 00:41:15.44\00:41:19.44 Jesus is saying that Peter is going to be crucified. 00:41:29.35\00:41:31.35 Let me ask you, If we're faithful to God and we die as 00:41:44.13\00:41:47.24 martyrs, does that bring honor and glory to God? 00:41:47.27\00:41:49.90 It most certainly does, because it shows absolute and complete 00:41:49.94\00:41:53.88 commitment to God. 00:41:53.91\00:41:55.38 And so the ultimate sacrifice, giving up the life, 00:41:55.41\00:41:59.21 is a revelation of God's character. 00:41:59.25\00:42:01.15 In fact, do you know many of the martyrs who died, 00:42:01.18\00:42:03.28 they brought many other people to the feet of Jesus. 00:42:03.32\00:42:06.22 Because when the people saw them die they said, Hey, if this 00:42:06.25\00:42:09.12 cause is worth dying for, it must be worth living for. 00:42:09.16\00:42:13.19 And so they accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:42:13.23\00:42:16.03 In this way much fruit was produced. 00:42:16.06\00:42:19.77 Now do you know that the Bible says that there's going to be a 00:42:19.80\00:42:22.14 final worldwide revelation of God's glory? 00:42:22.17\00:42:25.37 Notice Revelation 18:1. 00:42:25.41\00:42:28.14 Now we go to Revelation where it talks about 00:42:28.18\00:42:30.15 giving glory to God. 00:42:30.18\00:42:31.51 Notice Revelation 18:1. 00:42:31.55\00:42:35.42 And we're going to study this more carefully in our last 00:42:36.89\00:42:39.05 lecture in this series. 00:42:39.09\00:42:40.42 Are we to expect to see an angel streak across the sky, you know, 00:42:53.10\00:42:56.77 with glorious light that everybody can see? 00:42:56.81\00:42:58.97 Is that what this is talking about? No. 00:42:59.01\00:43:01.01 We've already noticed that angels represent people. 00:43:01.04\00:43:03.98 In other words, God's people are going to reflect 00:43:04.01\00:43:08.42 in the world; they're going to fill the world with the glory 00:43:08.45\00:43:12.19 of God, which is the glory of His what? 00:43:12.22\00:43:15.29 the glory of His character. 00:43:15.32\00:43:17.39 In fact, notice Isaiah 58 where this glory is spoken about. 00:43:17.43\00:43:21.13 Isaiah 58:6-8. It describes what this glory is in the end time; 00:43:21.16\00:43:27.84 the glory that God is going to fill the world with. 00:43:27.87\00:43:30.04 There's going to be the greatest manifestation of God's character 00:43:30.07\00:43:32.84 in the history of the world. 00:43:32.87\00:43:34.21 People are going to be impressed. 00:43:34.24\00:43:35.58 They're not going to say, Oh look at those people; 00:43:35.61\00:43:36.95 they're so great. Look at those Adventists; 00:43:36.98\00:43:39.18 they're so wonderful. 00:43:39.21\00:43:40.55 No, they're going to say, Wow! 00:43:40.58\00:43:41.92 Look at the God that they serve! 00:43:41.95\00:43:43.62 Look at their character! 00:43:43.65\00:43:44.99 They must have some connection with God. 00:43:45.02\00:43:46.76 Notice Isaiah 58:6. God says: 00:43:46.79\00:43:50.99 Now let me ask you, what is being revealed here 00:44:14.28\00:44:18.29 according to these verses? 00:44:18.32\00:44:19.65 What is being revealed is the love, and the kindness 00:44:19.69\00:44:23.12 of God to the world. Isn't that right? 00:44:23.16\00:44:25.19 And now notice what happens as a result of revealing 00:44:25.23\00:44:29.33 all of these character traits. 00:44:29.36\00:44:31.13 Verse 8, Then your light... Your what? 00:44:31.17\00:44:36.54 When we feed the hungry; when we bring into our house the poor; 00:44:36.57\00:44:41.11 when we break every yoke; when we loosen the heavy burdens; 00:44:41.14\00:44:45.51 when we let the oppressed go free. It says... 00:44:45.55\00:44:49.02 What does it mean then to give glory to God? 00:45:03.16\00:45:06.84 To give glory to God simply means to reflect His what? 00:45:06.87\00:45:11.31 To reflect His character to the world so that others can see 00:45:11.34\00:45:15.94 Jesus in us, and give honor and glory to His name. 00:45:15.98\00:45:21.18 So this expression: Give glory to Him, is telling us, 00:45:21.22\00:45:26.05 very explicitly, that the end time generation, who accept 00:45:26.09\00:45:29.96 the first angel's message, are going to reveal to the world 00:45:29.99\00:45:33.46 what? all of the aspects of the character of God, 00:45:33.50\00:45:37.53 because they are in intimate communion with Jesus. 00:45:37.57\00:45:40.47 But now let's look at another dimension, very quickly, 00:45:40.50\00:45:44.47 to this issue of giving glory. 00:45:44.51\00:45:46.54 Notice 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20, 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20. 00:45:46.57\00:45:54.68 There's another aspect that we need to take a look at when we 00:45:54.72\00:45:57.65 talk about giving glory to God. 00:45:57.69\00:45:59.32 It's speaking there about caring for our bodies 00:45:59.35\00:46:02.39 and for our minds. 00:46:02.42\00:46:03.76 In other words, give glory to God in your what? 00:46:20.88\00:46:23.88 Which is another way of saying your thinking, or your mind. 00:46:27.02\00:46:30.69 Let me ask you, Does giving glory to God have anything to do 00:46:36.89\00:46:40.60 with caring for our bodies? Yes. 00:46:40.63\00:46:43.26 Does it have anything to do with caring for our minds? 00:46:43.30\00:46:47.24 Absolutely! Notice 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Corinthians 10:31. 00:46:47.27\00:46:53.98 Let me ask you, Does our health have anything to do with 00:47:06.15\00:47:11.06 how we treat people? 00:47:11.09\00:47:12.43 You know, some people, some Christians, many Christians 00:47:14.76\00:47:17.63 I might say, for example, are addicts to coffee. 00:47:17.67\00:47:21.17 What happens when you don't drink coffee? 00:47:21.20\00:47:24.37 You become cranky. 00:47:24.41\00:47:27.81 Does it effect the way you treat people? Yes. 00:47:27.84\00:47:32.08 Let me ask you, When you drink, when you get drunk, 00:47:32.11\00:47:36.45 does that effect what you say to people, 00:47:36.48\00:47:38.92 and the way you treat people? Absolutely! 00:47:38.95\00:47:41.79 The way you eat; does that effect your thinking? 00:47:41.82\00:47:45.79 Does that effect your behavior, the way you treat people? 00:47:45.83\00:47:48.83 Drugs, eating forbidding foods? Absolutely! 00:47:48.86\00:47:51.97 In other words, if we don't care for our body, we will not be 00:47:52.00\00:47:55.74 able to reflect the character of Jesus in its fullness. 00:47:55.77\00:47:59.21 You know, we need to have a healthy body and a healthy mind. 00:47:59.24\00:48:03.28 Do you know that the brain is a physical organ, 00:48:03.31\00:48:06.72 and the mind operates through the brain? 00:48:06.75\00:48:10.35 So the condition of your body effects the condition of your 00:48:10.39\00:48:13.99 brain, and the condition of your brain effects your ability 00:48:14.02\00:48:17.63 to reflect the character of God to others, and your ability to 00:48:17.66\00:48:21.10 communicate more clearly with God. 00:48:21.13\00:48:23.16 Because when we have a blurred mind, our communion with God is 00:48:23.20\00:48:27.07 not full, and our treatment of our fellow human beings is not 00:48:27.10\00:48:30.97 as God would have it. 00:48:31.01\00:48:32.84 And so the first angel's message also calls us to glorify God 00:48:32.87\00:48:37.98 in our body, and in our spirit, which belong to God. 00:48:38.01\00:48:42.18 Now I'd like to read one verse in closing our study for today: 00:48:42.22\00:48:48.36 2 Corinthians 3:18. 00:48:48.39\00:48:52.66 We couldn't finish without this one, because this verse is 00:48:52.69\00:48:56.20 reminiscing about what happened to Moses on mount Sinai. 00:48:56.23\00:48:58.90 And so we have to end where we began. 00:48:58.93\00:49:01.64 We began with Moses being in contact with God, 00:49:01.67\00:49:05.01 and him being changed and transformed, and revealing God's 00:49:05.04\00:49:08.88 glory to Israel in the character of God. 00:49:08.91\00:49:11.88 Now notice 2 Corinthians 3:18. 00:49:11.91\00:49:15.58 See Israel asked Moses to put a veil over his face, 00:49:19.55\00:49:23.32 so they didn't reflect the glory of God. 00:49:23.36\00:49:25.49 They were always complaining and whining. 00:49:25.53\00:49:27.33 They didn't reveal God's character, 00:49:27.36\00:49:28.76 because they didn't see the glory. 00:49:28.80\00:49:30.13 They said, Put a veil over your face. 00:49:30.17\00:49:33.00 The glory did not spill from Moses to the people. 00:49:33.03\00:49:35.44 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:49:35.47\00:49:37.01 God wanted the glory to spill from God, from Jesus, 00:49:37.04\00:49:40.74 to Moses, and then Moses with unveiled face to 00:49:40.78\00:49:45.25 bring it to the people. 00:49:45.28\00:49:46.61 But the people said, Cover your face. Now notice: 00:49:46.65\00:49:49.65 What do we need to behold? 00:49:56.76\00:49:58.09 The same thing that Moses beheld. It says: 00:49:58.76\00:50:02.10 It doesn't happen overnight. 00:50:08.10\00:50:09.44 The more time we spend with God, the more we behold Him, 00:50:09.47\00:50:15.44 the more we are changed into His image. 00:50:15.48\00:50:18.61 And the more television, and violence, and sex, and profanity 00:50:18.65\00:50:22.48 that we watch on television, the more we reflect television. 00:50:22.52\00:50:26.82 It's a law of our mind that we are what we eat spiritually. 00:50:26.86\00:50:31.13 You see, physically we eat through our mouth; 00:50:31.16\00:50:33.40 spiritually we eat through our ears and through our eyes. 00:50:33.43\00:50:37.60 And we are what we eat, whether it be physically, 00:50:37.63\00:50:41.30 or whether it be spiritually. 00:50:41.37\00:50:42.77 Don't think that if you spend most of your time with the 00:50:42.80\00:50:45.37 television you're going to reflect the character of Jesus. 00:50:45.44\00:50:47.98 It doesn't work that way. 00:50:48.01\00:50:50.35 If we're going to reflect the character of Jesus we have to 00:50:50.38\00:50:53.95 spend time with whom? 00:50:53.98\00:50:55.32 We have to spend time with Jesus. 00:50:55.35\00:50:57.42 And so it says: But we all, with unveiled face beholding as 00:50:57.45\00:51:02.12 in a mirror the glory of the Lord,... 00:51:02.16\00:51:04.33 What do we behold? the glory of the Lord. 00:51:04.36\00:51:06.49 We are being transformed into what? into the same image 00:51:06.53\00:51:12.20 from glory to glory,... 00:51:12.23\00:51:13.97 In other words, the more we're with Him 00:51:14.00\00:51:15.34 the more we reflect His glory. 00:51:15.37\00:51:17.44 And notice who does it: just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 00:51:17.47\00:51:21.41 It kind of reminds me of an experience that I had a few 00:51:21.44\00:51:25.35 years ago when I was preaching in a certain city. 00:51:25.38\00:51:28.78 And a lady came up to me and she says, Pastor Bohr, do you know 00:51:28.82\00:51:34.49 so and so? I'm not going to mention the name. 00:51:34.52\00:51:37.53 She says, Do you know so and so? 00:51:37.56\00:51:42.23 I said, Oh, absolutely. 00:51:42.26\00:51:44.83 He was one of my star students for three years. 00:51:44.87\00:51:48.84 I mean he aced every class that he took. 00:51:48.87\00:51:51.07 He was a fantastic student. 00:51:51.11\00:51:53.17 She says, Well, I want you to know you've preached 00:51:53.21\00:51:55.41 just like he does. 00:51:55.44\00:51:56.78 And I kind of smiled. 00:52:00.55\00:52:02.05 Let me ask you... By the way, this individual's coming 00:52:02.08\00:52:06.89 to our family camp this year. 00:52:06.92\00:52:08.26 So why do you suppose that he preaches similar 00:52:08.29\00:52:14.10 to the way that I preach? 00:52:14.13\00:52:16.50 Well, you know, he spent three years in the classroom with me, 00:52:16.53\00:52:21.44 so something is bound to rub off. 00:52:21.47\00:52:24.21 You see, it's contagious. 00:52:24.24\00:52:26.84 The time that we spend with someone, we reflect to a greater 00:52:26.88\00:52:32.45 or lesser degree the character of that person. 00:52:32.48\00:52:36.72 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:52:36.75\00:52:38.89 The more time we spend with Jesus 00:52:38.92\00:52:41.02 the more we look like Him. 00:52:41.06\00:52:43.86 And then people will say, like they said of the apostles, 00:52:43.89\00:52:46.86 you know, when they beheld the boldness of the disciples, 00:52:46.90\00:52:49.83 and their constancy... 00:52:49.86\00:52:51.67 Do you know what they said? 00:52:51.70\00:52:53.64 They said, These guys were with Jesus. 00:52:53.67\00:52:57.47 In other words, the glory and the honor wasn't for them. 00:52:57.51\00:53:00.38 The glory and honor was for Jesus, 00:53:00.41\00:53:03.95 the Lord whom they served. 00:53:03.98\00:53:05.71 I'd like to read one statement in closing. 00:53:05.75\00:53:09.45 This is found in the magnificent and beautiful devotional book 00:53:09.48\00:53:14.09 that was written several years ago called, 00:53:14.12\00:53:16.59 Sons and Daughters of God, page 337. 00:53:16.62\00:53:21.13 I love this statement. It says this: 00:53:21.16\00:53:25.63 By what? 00:53:28.50\00:53:30.34 How do we behold the loveliness of Christ's character? 00:53:41.12\00:53:45.75 Where do we see it? in the Word of God. 00:53:45.82\00:53:48.69 How do we have communion with Him? through prayer. 00:53:48.72\00:53:52.99 By beholding Christ, by talking of Him, by beholding the 00:53:53.06\00:53:57.20 loveliness of His character we become changed; 00:53:57.23\00:54:00.87 changed from glory to glory. 00:54:00.94\00:54:04.37 ...she asks. 00:54:07.08\00:54:08.41 There's a work of what that goes on while we behold Jesus? 00:54:23.53\00:54:26.19 a work of purification. 00:54:26.23\00:54:28.43 You see, the more we see Jesus, the more time we spend with 00:54:28.46\00:54:33.77 Jesus and behold Him, the more we become like Him. 00:54:33.80\00:54:37.81 And do you know, in this text, 2 Corinthians 3:18, the word 00:54:37.84\00:54:44.31 that is used for changed is the word metamorphosis. 00:54:44.35\00:54:49.98 Do you know what metamorphosis is? 00:54:50.02\00:54:53.52 Let me ask you, In what is a caterpillar 00:54:53.56\00:54:58.16 similar to a butterfly? 00:54:58.19\00:54:59.53 In what way is a tadpole similar to a frog? 00:55:03.26\00:55:07.47 They're totally different. 00:55:09.90\00:55:11.24 I mean a tadpole; we used to call them pollywogs. 00:55:11.27\00:55:14.94 Have you ever heard that? 00:55:14.98\00:55:17.18 You know, a pollywog looks like a little fish. 00:55:17.21\00:55:20.48 And then, lo and behold, through a process known as metamorphosis 00:55:21.82\00:55:25.89 the tadpole isn't a tadpole anymore, it's a frog. 00:55:25.92\00:55:30.06 The same is true with a caterpillar. 00:55:30.09\00:55:32.69 A caterpillar, you know, he buries himself inside 00:55:32.73\00:55:36.50 the crislilias. And after awhile the crislilias moves; it breaks. 00:55:36.53\00:55:42.67 And lo and behold a caterpillar doesn't come out. 00:55:42.70\00:55:46.47 What comes out is a beautiful what? is a beautiful butterfly. 00:55:46.51\00:55:50.81 Because the process that has taken place 00:55:50.85\00:55:53.38 is known as a metamorphosis. 00:55:53.42\00:55:55.62 And so the same is true in our relationship with Jesus. 00:55:55.65\00:55:59.85 You see, God wants to have a people in the world who will 00:55:59.89\00:56:04.09 reflect His glory to the world; the glory of every aspect of His 00:56:04.13\00:56:08.86 character in these last days. 00:56:08.90\00:56:10.30 People who will accept the first angel's message that says 00:56:10.33\00:56:13.97 give glory to Him. 00:56:14.00\00:56:15.57 But we can't give what we have not received; 00:56:15.60\00:56:17.77 and we receive by having communion with Him. 00:56:17.81\00:56:21.18 God is going to have a people that will fill the earth 00:56:21.21\00:56:25.21 with His glory; with the glory of His character. 00:56:25.25\00:56:27.78 And people are not going to say, Oh, wow, look at those people! 00:56:27.82\00:56:31.65 Aren't they wonderful? 00:56:31.69\00:56:33.02 Aren't they marvelous? 00:56:33.05\00:56:34.39 They're going to start asking, What God is the God that 00:56:34.42\00:56:37.29 these people serve? 00:56:37.33\00:56:38.66 They're so kind, they're so loving, they're so just, 00:56:38.69\00:56:41.63 they're so honest, they're so truthful. 00:56:41.66\00:56:43.97 Where do they get it from? 00:56:44.00\00:56:46.03 And so they're going to want to come to see the 00:56:46.07\00:56:49.87 secret of our glory; just like the Queen of Sheba. 00:56:49.90\00:56:52.51 And then we'll be able to direct them to the source of the glory, 00:56:52.54\00:56:57.95 which is the glory of Jesus Christ. 00:56:57.98\00:57:00.72 Let me ask you, Do you understand now what the 00:57:00.75\00:57:05.35 first angel is saying when it declares, and it commands, 00:57:05.39\00:57:09.16 Give glory to Him? 00:57:09.22\00:57:12.13 You see, the first angel is saying, Keep His 00:57:12.16\00:57:14.36 commandments, obey Him. 00:57:14.40\00:57:16.26 And it's saying, reflect His character to the world. 00:57:16.30\00:57:20.80 And I pray to God that all of us will reflect that character. 00:57:20.84\00:57:25.44
