edema, pneumonia, and a stroke.

but probably the most difficult

place in the 1950's.

that... others will not.

But in the 1950's there was
some real discussion going on.

And you had it with
conservative Christians;

you had it with
Protestants with their creeds;

and you had it with
the evangelical world.

It was challenged. Now
notice, in 1954 and 1955

there was a writer
from Eternity magazine -

be very familiar,

I won't mention his name -

and at the same time
he was earning his Ph.D.

So what he wanted to do was
to write and ask some questions

about certain subjects.
And he wanted the SDA church

to be questioned because
we had certain positions...

We have certain
positions, do we not? Yes!

And we need to maintain
those positions and not change

regardless of what
somebody puts in a book.

regardless of what council meets

truth on these issues

We would be listed in that
book that would sell hundreds of

thousands of copies as a
cult. And all of a sudden

we began to get
weak at the knees.

We became sissies.

We didn't want that, and
I can understand the issue

but never back
down on what is truth.

hundreds of hours were spent

over a couple-year period

several visits to places
where a lot of information

could be, you know, gathered in.

And this led to one group
who decided that there should be

change. We need to compromise

we need to be careful here.

group who said: "No compromise!

This is not our message

was the nature of Christ.

with a lot of people.

Because the passage continues on

forerunner is for us entered. "

The forerunner is
whom? Jesus Christ.

want to go in with Him.
