There is no time like the 00:03:12.79\00:03:16.26 present where we need to understand our roots. Is that 00:03:16.29\00:03:19.69 correct, ASI family? And so our children day by day, meeting by 00:03:19.76\00:03:25.53 meeting have been introduced to one of the pioneers of the 00:03:25.57\00:03:28.40 Seventh-day Adventist Church; people like William Miller, 00:03:28.44\00:03:31.21 Hiram Edson, Ellen White, Joseph Bates and we've given them one 00:03:31.24\00:03:37.81 nugget of truth that these pioneers especially introduced 00:03:37.85\00:03:41.95 into this movement that God used them to bring to us. And so for 00:03:41.98\00:03:48.56 instance Kindergartners what was William Miller's message? Now 00:03:48.59\00:03:55.10 we're going to say it all together, so is everybody 00:03:55.13\00:03:57.03 ready? What was William Miller's message? So we're going to sing a song for you this evening 00:04:03.57\00:04:09.64 and it's based on Ellen White's statement in various places that 00:04:09.68\00:04:15.48 we can find in Life Sketches, page 196 where she says, We have 00:04:15.52\00:04:21.72 nothing to fear for the future except as we forget how God has 00:04:21.79\00:04:27.96 led us in the past and his teaching in our past history. 00:04:28.00\00:04:31.77 So I think we're going to have a graphic on the screen with 00:04:31.80\00:04:36.07 the words to the song; I hope we have that and we would like 00:04:36.10\00:04:40.58 you, ASI family, to join us on the third verse of the song. 00:04:40.61\00:04:44.98 Do you think you could do that? I've had the privilege, the honor to work 00:07:17.17\00:07:21.47 with your early teens and the youth this year and I'm telling 00:07:21.50\00:07:25.77 you they're a very special group They are the ones that are going 00:07:25.81\00:07:29.81 to carry Christ's banner here, the next generation to run the 00:07:29.84\00:07:35.08 church. Our theme has been Be Still and Know that I am God. 00:07:35.12\00:07:41.66 Today in the day of media, in the day of social media and all 00:07:41.69\00:07:48.20 all kinds of different distractions in the world 00:07:48.23\00:07:51.50 we've been discussing and looking at what kinds of things 00:07:51.53\00:07:55.24 can distract us from God. Starting tonight I'll be working 00:07:55.27\00:07:58.91 again with the early teens and we're going to start a 00:07:58.94\00:08:02.44 discussion on what are the challenges that they are facing. 00:08:02.48\00:08:05.48 Friends, I believe that this generation, it's harder to be 00:08:05.51\00:08:09.38 saved in this generation than it was just in the past because 00:08:09.42\00:08:14.09 there are so many distractions and so pray for the early teens 00:08:14.12\00:08:17.36 and the youth. We still have three meetings to go together. 00:08:17.39\00:08:20.70 I'm excited about that. I know that some have already come up 00:08:20.73\00:08:23.97 to me and talked to me about some of the challenges that 00:08:24.00\00:08:27.30 they're facing. So there are earnest young people here. 00:08:27.34\00:08:30.57 Please pray for the entire youth department. There is an 00:08:30.61\00:08:33.78 entirely different ASI going on and the leaders are amazing, 00:08:33.81\00:08:39.51 Praise God. 00:08:39.55\00:08:42.48 Alisa Trujillo has led the primary class in knowing Jesus. 00:08:42.52\00:08:46.89 Can you share a little bit with the ASI family what you have 00:08:46.96\00:08:51.29 learned this week. 00:08:51.33\00:08:53.86 Sure. Our theme as she said is Knowing Jesus. Every day we have 00:08:53.90\00:08:58.20 we have been going over some thing that we know about Jesus. 00:08:58.23\00:09:01.37 I'll hand the mike over to my assistant James who's going to 00:09:01.40\00:09:04.54 tell us what we've been learning. 00:09:04.57\00:09:06.94 This week every day we take a different opportunity to look at 00:09:06.98\00:09:09.91 how Jesus loves us was on Wednesday and then yesterday 00:09:09.94\00:09:12.85 we learned how Jesus speaks to us and today we learned how 00:09:12.91\00:09:16.45 Jesus made us. Tomorrow we're going to learn about why Jesus 00:09:16.48\00:09:19.99 died on the cross for us. 00:09:20.02\00:09:21.82 Just today in the theme of knowing Jesus made us we went 00:09:21.86\00:09:26.26 to the health museum and just to share how God works in the 00:09:26.29\00:09:30.63 unexpected we went to the health museum and the kids were having 00:09:30.67\00:09:32.67 a great time in the interactive exhibits and then we went to go 00:09:32.70\00:09:37.17 watch a video about human history and they started talking 00:09:37.21\00:09:40.98 about evolution. And you could kind of hear a little bit of 00:09:41.01\00:09:44.75 snickering going on as the children were mmmm. So the 00:09:44.78\00:09:49.48 decision was made to leave and some of the kids were why are 00:09:49.55\00:09:52.32 we leaving, why are we leaving. We said we'll talk to you later. 00:09:52.35\00:09:55.09 So we sent them back to the exhibits and they had a great 00:09:55.12\00:09:58.99 time. We got on the bus and I started talking about the 00:09:59.03\00:10:02.80 experience in the video theater. The minute I started talking 00:10:02.86\00:10:08.07 hands went up and you knew that they already knew what I was 00:10:08.10\00:10:13.41 going to say about how evolution is not true and we started a 00:10:13.44\00:10:17.75 conversation about creation and about how God made us, we did 00:10:17.78\00:10:22.12 not evolve from chimps and all of that. These children are 00:10:22.15\00:10:25.79 smart. They know their Bibles. I know these children come from 00:10:25.82\00:10:29.42 homes where Christ is being made the center and it is such a 00:10:29.46\00:10:33.13 wonderful opportunity to be a part of all that. So now we are 00:10:33.16\00:10:37.77 going to sing a song called Knowing You we hope that you 00:10:37.80\00:10:40.17 will be blessing to you all. 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.57 ¤ ¤ 00:10:43.61\00:12:43.96 We also had another guest come from Battle Creek Historic 00:12:44.03\00:12:47.46 Village. Don and Betty, I'd like to invite you to come up and 00:12:47.50\00:12:50.90 just share a little bit. 00:12:50.93\00:12:52.83 Well we thank you for the privilege of being here. We are 00:12:52.87\00:12:57.37 with Adventist Heritage Ministries. We actually have 00:12:57.41\00:12:59.27 four sites, but Don and I live in Battle Creek, Michigan and 00:12:59.31\00:13:04.75 just last month in the month of July we had over 1400 people 00:13:04.78\00:13:10.55 come by and about 25% of them are non-Adventist. We get them 00:13:10.59\00:13:14.89 into the discovery center of Dr. Kellogg's equipment that he 00:13:14.92\00:13:19.19 had in the sanitarium and then we encourage them to go out into 00:13:19.23\00:13:24.00 the village and most of the do it and Don usually gets a Great 00:13:24.03\00:13:28.64 Controversy in their hands. So we are really blessed there. 00:13:28.70\00:13:33.94 Thank you so much. I'd like to invite Pastor Christian Martin 00:13:33.98\00:13:37.95 now to share what you've been doing in your class this week. 00:13:37.98\00:13:42.68 It is good to be with you here this evening. This has been an 00:13:42.72\00:13:47.52 incredible, incredible ASI for our juniors. You know our theme 00:13:47.56\00:13:52.33 is Mission Possible. This morning we went to Space Center 00:13:52.36\00:13:56.80 Houston and so as you can imagine being in Houston, Texas 00:13:56.87\00:14:02.40 our theme has been Mission Possible and we discovered that 00:14:02.44\00:14:07.94 nothing is impossible as long as Jesus is the king of our hearts. 00:14:07.98\00:14:14.22 So we've learned a song these last few days entitled King of 00:14:14.25\00:14:20.06 Our Hearts. We want to share that with you. 00:14:20.09\00:14:21.69 ¤ ¤ 00:14:21.72\00:16:56.18 As we make Jesus the King of our hearts we discover that he has a 00:16:56.21\00:17:00.85 mission for us. In fact, Jesus himself came with a mission as 00:17:00.88\00:17:05.85 we learned in Isaiah chapter 61 verse 1. Let's say it together 00:17:05.89\00:17:13.80 juniors. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has 00:17:13.83\00:17:19.00 anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to 00:17:19.03\00:17:23.87 bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives 00:17:23.91\00:17:28.74 and the opening of the prison to those who are bound. 00:17:28.78\00:17:34.15 Amen. Jesus came to continue his mission through us and so 00:17:34.22\00:17:38.12 throughout the week, throughout the last few days we had 00:17:38.15\00:17:42.62 different mission challenges, Mission Possible. One of them 00:17:42.66\00:17:46.56 was taking water bottles just like this with the label Jesus 00:17:46.59\00:17:50.93 Loves You and a Glow tract called Living Water and Samuel 00:17:50.97\00:17:54.87 is one of our team captains and Samuel tell us about the 00:17:54.90\00:17:58.77 experience you had with your team. 00:17:58.81\00:18:00.41 Well it was a pretty amazing experience. We were out in the 00:18:00.48\00:18:05.71 park and I had about six of my students and we were sharing 00:18:05.75\00:18:10.95 water bottles and Glow tracts. I had one of my students who was 00:18:10.99\00:18:15.62 pretty shy and it was almost at the end. We had about 30 minutes 00:18:15.66\00:18:20.63 to share these Glow tracts and we're about to get to the end 00:18:20.66\00:18:25.33 and he came and he asked me, Oh can I share these with a cop? 00:18:25.40\00:18:31.11 And I'm like whoa, OK. And so I told him yes you can go. And 00:18:31.17\00:18:35.71 what did he say? I want to give this to my friend Officer. 00:18:35.74\00:18:40.25 What did he say? 00:18:40.28\00:18:41.62 I gave it to the cop and he said thank you. Pretty amazing, huh? 00:18:41.65\00:18:50.73 This is to know that we were out there to share with everyone 00:18:50.76\00:18:57.20 and at the end were able to share 50 Glow tracts with just 00:18:57.23\00:19:03.67 six students in less than 10 minutes. 00:19:03.71\00:19:06.88 All right. Good job, good job. Yesterday we had a very special 00:19:06.94\00:19:10.85 visit from our General Conference President. 00:19:10.88\00:19:14.08 And one thing we discovered is that this man not only loves the 00:19:14.12\00:19:18.69 church but he also loves our young people and he shared a 00:19:18.72\00:19:22.92 message on his Facebook page that we'd like to share with you 00:19:22.96\00:19:27.16 just now. 00:19:27.20\00:19:29.43 I'm here in the city of Houston, Texas and the ASI convention is 00:19:29.46\00:19:35.57 taking place. You will not believe where I am. I've been 00:19:35.60\00:19:39.04 with some of the most powerful people in this convention center 00:19:39.07\00:19:43.81 the juniors. I am so happy to be with them. Now I want you to see 00:19:43.85\00:19:49.28 them and here they are. Young people tell me what it is you've 00:19:49.32\00:19:54.72 been studying. Mission Possible. 00:19:54.76\00:19:58.69 All right. Mission Possible. Go! Mission Possible. Go! 00:19:58.73\00:20:04.53 Mission Possible. Go! Can you see what I mean? These are 00:20:04.57\00:20:10.04 wonderful young people filled with the power of God and they 00:20:10.07\00:20:14.74 are willing to go for Jesus. I hope all of you who are going to 00:20:14.78\00:20:18.81 watch this everywhere around the world are going to be filled 00:20:18.85\00:20:23.22 with the great enthusiasm that the Holy Spirit can give in 00:20:23.25\00:20:27.19 sharing the three angels messages and the love of Jesus 00:20:27.22\00:20:31.06 and that he's coming back very soon. Young people, wave to all 00:20:31.09\00:20:35.10 the friends all over the world. What? God bless each one of you. 00:20:35.13\00:20:39.07 Thank you. 00:20:39.10\00:20:41.70 Good evening. We're glad to be here. The juniors, they did good 00:20:41.77\00:20:47.18 didn't they? The early teens and I have been learning about being 00:20:47.21\00:20:52.58 in Egypt. Today we went and visited the Science Museum of 00:20:52.61\00:20:56.15 Natural history and we saw a bunch of artifacts from Egypt. 00:20:56.18\00:21:02.49 Also then we went and toured the butterfly museum so we got to be 00:21:02.52\00:21:07.40 in God's nature. So we got to spend at ASI here a little time 00:21:07.43\00:21:12.17 being still and knowing about God. We're learning that in 00:21:12.20\00:21:16.94 Early teens we have a lot of choices to make. We're at that 00:21:16.97\00:21:21.01 age of our lives where we're making a lot of choices for 00:21:21.04\00:21:25.01 ourselves and one of the choices is do we want to be a part of 00:21:25.05\00:21:29.25 this church, a part of this great movement and that choice 00:21:29.28\00:21:35.02 is ours to make. So we need some practical guidance, some 00:21:35.06\00:21:40.70 instruction and we found a place we can get it-The sure word of 00:21:40.73\00:21:44.43 prophecy, the word of God. So we're learning to depend upon 00:21:44.47\00:21:49.64 the Bible to guide our decision making and then stillness and 00:21:49.67\00:21:54.81 action. Actions have consequences. So we're 00:21:54.84\00:21:57.71 trying to learn how to make good decisions and to let the Holy 00:21:57.75\00:22:02.15 Spirit lead us. We're doing that by being still, spending time in 00:22:02.18\00:22:06.59 God's word, spending time in communion with God because be 00:22:06.62\00:22:10.63 still and know means to know God. This is life eternal. John 00:22:10.66\00:22:14.90 14:6 says to know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom 00:22:14.93\00:22:21.97 thou sent. So as our shirts say: It says Be still and know that I 00:22:22.00\00:22:28.34 am God. I will be exalted among the heathen. I will be exalted 00:22:28.38\00:22:34.18 in Houston and all over the world, Amen? So we're learning 00:22:34.22\00:22:39.52 to be a part of this movement at this very important time in 00:22:39.55\00:22:44.83 our lives. Thank you. 00:22:44.86\00:22:46.19 Shawn Lovelace faithfully led the youth this year. Would you 00:22:46.23\00:22:52.60 kindly share what your class has studied this week. 00:22:52.63\00:22:55.64 Sure. Our class theme has been Be Still and I think you're 00:22:55.70\00:22:58.51 probably picking up the pattern here. But ours is a little bit 00:22:58.54\00:23:01.31 different. There's a period after Be and one after Still. 00:23:01.34\00:23:04.38 We don't just mean it in a sense of be quiet. I mean how is it 00:23:04.41\00:23:09.42 that a young person like us can survive and at the end of the 00:23:09.45\00:23:14.96 day we can still be. Does that make sense? Well in very short 00:23:14.99\00:23:20.46 order we have discovered that one of the secrets to surviving, 00:23:20.50\00:23:25.53 this generation especially, but any generation needs to be 00:23:25.57\00:23:31.64 still and to know that God is God. You'll probably remember 00:23:31.67\00:23:37.71 a verse that Ellen White quotes in Mount of Blessing on page 150 00:23:37.75\00:23:41.02 is the subtitle on our shirts. That which shares the life of 00:23:41.05\00:23:44.55 God with him surviveth all. So we've been learning together 00:23:44.59\00:23:48.69 what it means to share the life of God. One of the practical, 00:23:48.72\00:23:52.06 tangible steps we have to take, and we're only part way through 00:23:52.09\00:23:54.66 that journey, the week is not yet done, but we're excited and 00:23:54.70\00:23:59.57 we're glad to see what God has been doing with your youth. 00:23:59.60\00:24:04.44 Thank you. 00:24:04.47\00:24:07.41 Happy Sabbath. Now's the time for our members in action 00:24:07.48\00:24:13.95 reports and with me here tonight is Tim Rumsey with Pathway to 00:24:13.98\00:24:17.92 Paradise ministry and also Esther and Nicole Murray. We're 00:24:17.95\00:24:21.79 so glad to have you guys with us. Tim you started a new 00:24:21.82\00:24:25.59 project here called Shine; it's a family ministry. Could you 00:24:25.66\00:24:28.80 please share with us a little bit about it. 00:24:28.83\00:24:30.17 Absolutely. Good evening. You know the Bible says that in the 00:24:30.20\00:24:33.64 time of Jesus when he was alive on this earth, children's voices 00:24:33.67\00:24:37.24 rang out to him and sang his praises in the temple courts. 00:24:37.27\00:24:40.58 History tells us that during the protestant reformation, 00:24:40.61\00:24:43.85 especially in Scandinavia, when it became impossible for adults 00:24:43.88\00:24:47.72 to share the message and to preach the gospel that the Holy 00:24:47.75\00:24:51.52 Spirit fell on children and they stood up and preached fearlessly 00:24:51.55\00:24:55.42 even young children that could not read. In the book, Counsels 00:24:55.49\00:24:59.59 to the Church, on page 210, we are told that in the last days 00:24:59.63\00:25:03.83 children's voices will be raised to give the last message of 00:25:03.87\00:25:07.64 warning to the world. I believe that God wants to use this 00:25:07.67\00:25:10.84 generation of children, the children we just saw on the 00:25:10.87\00:25:14.01 stage behind us, to give that last message of warning. Shine 00:25:14.04\00:25:18.11 is a five-day family camp meeting that is designed to help 00:25:18.15\00:25:22.28 entire families, parents and children, make this a reality 00:25:22.32\00:25:26.09 for their family and to learn how to share their faith, to 00:25:26.12\00:25:29.46 share the gospel, to share the three angels' messages with the 00:25:29.49\00:25:32.83 people around them, their neighbors, their coworkers, 00:25:32.86\00:25:36.06 their family, the people they go to school with. We just 00:25:36.13\00:25:39.27 completed our first Shine family camp meeting a few weeks ago. 00:25:39.33\00:25:42.94 So it's a very new ministry, this has just started this 00:25:42.97\00:25:45.51 summer, huh? That's right. Very new. We 00:25:45.54\00:25:47.64 completed our first one a few weeks ago at Fletcher Academy in 00:25:47.71\00:25:51.35 North Carolina. Wow, Fantastic. 00:25:51.38\00:25:53.21 We have a short video clip that we'd like to show you that will 00:25:53.25\00:25:56.89 give you a little idea of what we did a few weeks ago. 00:25:56.92\00:25:59.45 Jesus loves me this I know. I want to tell the world so. 00:26:14.07\00:26:21.21 God has always had a remnant generation. A generation of 00:26:27.68\00:26:32.39 children who would not be bought or sold. Children who in their 00:26:32.42\00:26:36.32 inmost souls were true and honest. Children who did not 00:26:36.36\00:26:41.10 fear to call sin by its right name. Children whose conscience 00:26:41.13\00:26:46.10 was as true to duty as the needle to the pole. Today in the 00:26:46.13\00:26:51.34 time of the end God will again have a remnant generation that 00:26:51.37\00:26:56.24 shines as the brightness of the firmament and turns many to 00:26:56.28\00:27:01.15 righteousness. ¤ ¤ 00:27:01.18\00:27:02.55 Pathways to Paradise ministries presents Shine, a family camp 00:27:17.47\00:27:21.80 meeting, spiritual retreat and youth-presented public 00:27:21.84\00:27:25.91 evangelistic series combined in one life-changing week. 00:27:25.94\00:27:30.41 Activities include parenting seminars, workshops on 00:27:30.45\00:27:34.68 developing creative family worships, training to teach 00:27:34.72\00:27:38.92 children how to lead Bible studies, recreational activities 00:27:38.95\00:27:42.62 for the entire family and the opportunity to meet and share 00:27:42.66\00:27:46.29 with others who are committed to raising the remnant generation. 00:27:46.33\00:27:50.17 To learn more about Shine visit www. ShineKids. net. 00:27:50.20\00:28:00.38 What a beautiful place to do a program like that. I'm inspired. 00:28:00.41\00:28:05.01 I've got a little daughter myself and she's only 1-1/2 but 00:28:05.05\00:28:08.88 I think we can get her involved right away. It's better to start 00:28:08.92\00:28:12.22 them when they're young, right? So Esther you attended this 00:28:12.25\00:28:15.79 summer's program. Can you tell us a little bit about your 00:28:15.82\00:28:19.36 experience? Sure. The whole week was a 00:28:19.39\00:28:22.26 spiritual blessing but I think the biggest take-home for our 00:28:22.30\00:28:26.23 family in particular was learning how to do the door-to- 00:28:26.27\00:28:30.11 door evangelism. Our family had always been a little bit 00:28:30.14\00:28:34.51 hesitant to do that. We didn't want to come across somebody 00:28:34.54\00:28:39.01 that said no or slammed the door We just were nervous about it. 00:28:39.05\00:28:43.49 But the best thing was the classes on how to do it. They 00:28:43.52\00:28:48.26 told us what to say, how to say it and even when to say it. Then 00:28:48.29\00:28:52.59 they ended it with practical experience. They dropped off 00:28:52.63\00:28:53.96 in the neighborhoods and made us practice. 00:28:55.76\00:28:57.87 Good. So has that given you confidence to be able to do 00:28:57.90\00:29:02.90 something like that back in your home church? 00:29:02.94\00:29:04.81 Yes. Actually we have made a promise to the Lord and we've 00:29:04.84\00:29:08.68 kept it since the camp. We've been doing door-to-door one hour 00:29:08.71\00:29:12.95 every Sabbath. 00:29:12.98\00:29:14.32 Fantastic. That's great to hear. Now Nicole how old are you? 00:29:14.35\00:29:18.12 Twelve years old. 00:29:18.15\00:29:19.49 Twelve years old and you attended with your mom. So what 00:29:19.52\00:29:21.42 kind of experience did you have at the retreat? 00:29:21.46\00:29:23.76 Well, I was really nervous but I really wanted to do something 00:29:23.83\00:29:27.43 for the Lord. We studied about the sanctuary, how to give 00:29:27.46\00:29:31.97 Bible studies, door-to-door and how to preach. I thought I would 00:29:32.00\00:29:38.24 never be able to preach that Saturday night, but with the 00:29:38.27\00:29:41.14 Lord's help and Mr. Tim, I was able to preach. 00:29:41.18\00:29:44.55 So you preached the final Sabbath night? Yes. 00:29:44.58\00:29:47.88 That's fantastic. So maybe we can line you up in the future as 00:29:47.95\00:29:51.29 an ASI preacher here. Sure. That must have been great. 00:29:51.32\00:29:54.49 Good I love the spirit. So well I'm excited about this project. 00:29:54.52\00:29:58.99 Tim if somebody wanted to learn a little bit more about this 00:29:59.03\00:30:01.73 family camp, where can they register? Where could they find 00:30:01.76\00:30:06.94 out? Where can they find you here? 00:30:06.97\00:30:08.37 We're going to be holding this once again next summer in June 00:30:08.40\00:30:12.27 2018, again at Fletcher Academy in North Carolina, but we would 00:30:12.31\00:30:16.14 love to bring it to your part of the country. So if you're 00:30:16.18\00:30:20.05 interested in hosting this event or maybe in an Academy during 00:30:20.12\00:30:23.99 the summer that's near you having this event held in your 00:30:24.02\00:30:27.76 area, please come talk to us. We're in aisle 500 in the 00:30:27.79\00:30:31.26 exhibit booths. Pathway to Paradise ministries. Again, you 00:30:31.29\00:30:35.06 can also go online to ShineKids. net. And there's a lot 00:30:35.10\00:30:38.83 more information there as well. We are just excited about the 00:30:38.87\00:30:43.67 families that came this year seeing lives changed and 00:30:43.71\00:30:47.51 impacted; a greater commitment to serving the Lord and that's 00:30:47.54\00:30:50.85 really what ASI is about isn't it? 00:30:50.88\00:30:53.48 Amen. Thank you so much for being with us. God bless your 00:30:53.52\00:30:56.75 ministry. 00:30:56.79\00:31:00.36 ¤ ¤ 00:31:00.39\00:31:12.87 It all started when we moved out of the city. We moved way up 00:31:12.90\00:31:18.97 here, way up in this remote area in the Modoc National Forest. 00:31:19.01\00:31:24.65 Here I discovered this really neat beaver colony. I was so 00:31:24.68\00:31:29.45 excited by this close encounter with nature that I started a 00:31:29.48\00:31:35.19 film with a video camera. That's when I made a remarkable 00:31:35.22\00:31:40.90 observation. These beavers were out and about every day of the 00:31:40.93\00:31:45.63 week except Saturdays. I was never able to get any pictures 00:31:45.70\00:31:51.64 on Saturdays. So I decided to do a little study. The incredible 00:31:51.67\00:31:57.55 results I want to share with you in this documentary I call the 00:31:57.58\00:32:03.42 7th Day Beavers. 00:32:03.45\00:32:16.30 I have with me here tonight Larren Cole of Desire Media and 00:32:16.33\00:32:19.67 he's going to be talking to us tonight about The 7th Day 00:32:19.70\00:32:22.94 Beavers. I know that some of you might have heard about this from 00:32:23.00\00:32:28.24 3ABN or Better Life TV or some other media outlet but probably 00:32:28.28\00:32:33.05 most of us like me would love to hear a little bit more about 00:32:33.08\00:32:36.89 what's going on with that. But before we get into the story, 00:32:36.92\00:32:40.42 Larren, I'd like to tell us just a little bit about you. Where 00:32:40.46\00:32:43.93 you're from. Are you from Houston here? 00:32:43.96\00:32:46.03 Not from Houston, no, I'm from Lakeview, Oregon area, actually 00:32:46.09\00:32:50.47 New Pine Creek. I live in California. Our office is over 00:32:50.50\00:32:53.60 the Oregon border into a little town called Lakeview. 00:32:53.64\00:32:57.84 OK, beautiful country. Now I understand that you're a 00:32:57.87\00:33:01.24 physical therapist. Does that keep you pretty busy? 00:33:01.28\00:33:04.55 No, I retired from physical therapy in 2002 and now I'm in 00:33:04.58\00:33:08.85 full time ministry with desire media. I'm the speaker/director, 00:33:08.88\00:33:11.85 the bottle washer, the toilet cleaner, everything for Desire 00:33:11.89\00:33:15.09 Media now. But that's a little ministry of our family that we 00:33:15.12\00:33:19.03 started back in 2002, 2003, that area. It started out as a little 00:33:19.06\00:33:22.93 book and video series for children about the book The 00:33:22.96\00:33:27.84 Desire of Ages. We started doing that. We started doing that and 00:33:27.87\00:33:31.37 then it sort of grew out of that as my children grew up and now 00:33:31.41\00:33:34.84 we are in full time public evangelism and we travel and 00:33:34.88\00:33:38.61 preach now. 00:33:38.65\00:33:39.98 And do you do anything online as well? 00:33:40.02\00:33:41.92 Yeah, we've got an online Bible school which we call Revelation 00:33:41.95\00:33:46.02 101. It's a Revelation 101 survival training course so it's 00:33:46.05\00:33:49.36 a free online Bible school. We have students from all over the 00:33:49.39\00:33:53.53 world. Yeah, we've got hundreds of students. A lot of churches 00:33:53.56\00:33:57.63 are using that as sort of a pre work for evangelism. 00:33:57.67\00:34:01.04 Praise God. I'd like to ask you some more about the beavers, 00:34:01.07\00:34:06.17 because I know we're all anxious to hear about that. Can you tell 00:34:06.21\00:34:09.41 us how did you get involved with these beavers? How did you find 00:34:09.44\00:34:12.61 out about them in the first place? 00:34:12.65\00:34:15.15 Well that's an interesting story I never would have noticed these 00:34:15.18\00:34:18.22 beavers resting on Saturday had it not been for a neighbor when 00:34:18.25\00:34:21.36 we lived in Redlands, California Southern California. I had a 00:34:21.42\00:34:24.59 neighbor named Bill and Bill told me one day out of the blue, 00:34:24.63\00:34:27.86 I wasn't in ministry at the time he just told me that he noticed 00:34:27.90\00:34:31.03 the bees that flew in the orange groves, that they would fly in 00:34:31.07\00:34:33.13 their normal patterns Sunday through Friday but on Saturday 00:34:33.17\00:34:37.41 he said it was dead quiet. They weren't going zooming by his 00:34:37.44\00:34:41.51 garage, he'd been in the garage, but they weren't out there in 00:34:41.54\00:34:43.91 the normal patterns on Saturday. So he told me that. Didn't 00:34:43.95\00:34:48.75 mean much to me at the time but when I did move to the country 00:34:48.78\00:34:52.15 I started going on Sabbath afternoon walks and I found this 00:34:52.19\00:34:55.82 really neat beaver colony. And I was so fascinated by it that I 00:34:55.86\00:34:59.33 would go back Saturday after Saturday, Sabbath after Sabbath, 00:34:59.36\00:35:02.33 I would go out on my little walk and I would look at these 00:35:02.36\00:35:05.60 but I never saw them out. One day I got a chance to go out on 00:35:05.63\00:35:08.84 a Sunday and there they were, the beavers. So back on 00:35:08.87\00:35:12.47 Saturday, nothing, then I started noticing a little 00:35:12.54\00:35:16.08 pattern and I remember Bill's bees. And I thought, I wonder 00:35:16.11\00:35:20.58 if these beavers are doing what Bill's bees were doing. 00:35:20.62\00:35:25.02 So you'd see them on Sunday but you never saw them on Sabbath. 00:35:25.05\00:35:30.19 Never saw them on Saturday. 00:35:30.23\00:35:33.56 Like once or twice? 00:35:33.60\00:35:34.93 What I did as _ said, I decided to do a little 00:35:34.96\00:35:36.73 observational study and this lasted a total of 16 years. 00:35:36.77\00:35:40.44 Sixteen years. 00:35:40.47\00:35:41.80 Started out intense with my little 8 mm video camera in 2002 00:35:41.84\00:35:46.31 and I started watching things routinely and I noticed active 00:35:46.37\00:35:51.18 and busy Sunday through Friday, closed on Sabbath. And I never 00:35:51.21\00:35:56.72 saw them come out of their lodge on Saturday. So in 2013, after 00:35:56.79\00:36:01.72 13 years of doing this, well it was casual after about the first 00:36:01.76\00:36:06.70 two years, but after 13 years I felt impressed to make a 00:36:06.73\00:36:09.90 documentary about this. Our ministry had grown a little bit 00:36:09.96\00:36:13.70 It got some more professional TV equipment and cameras and 00:36:13.74\00:36:16.81 things like that and I thought just bring that out. I've got 00:36:16.84\00:36:21.08 five children, three boys who are all into media and why not? 00:36:21.11\00:36:25.25 Let's produce a video about this. And I felt impressed to do 00:36:25.31\00:36:26.78 that. So it took three years and we finally got it done in 2016. 00:36:26.82\00:36:29.52 That's amazing so what is happening with that video? 00:36:29.55\00:36:33.25 Where's it going? How is it being used. 00:36:33.29\00:36:34.69 That video has been on 3ABN. It's been on 3ABN, it's on a 00:36:34.72\00:36:38.56 number of other networks, even some in Europe and we are 00:36:38.59\00:36:42.93 amazing feedback. People are using this 7th Day Beaver DVD 00:36:42.96\00:36:47.37 and the story as a witnessing tool about the Sabbath. Not only 00:36:47.40\00:36:51.97 is it a great nature film, in high definition, on location, 00:36:52.01\00:36:56.51 Modoc National Forest, we also included four Bible experts that 00:36:56.54\00:37:00.42 would answer the questions that would logically come up about a 00:37:00.45\00:37:04.32 film like this. Why are these beavers resting on Sabbath? 00:37:04.35\00:37:07.29 And so these Bible experts, we've got Shelley Quinn, we've 00:37:07.32\00:37:10.26 got Dr. Neal Nedley, Steve Wahlberg and Jerry Bandy. 00:37:10.29\00:37:14.96 They answer the questions that would just naturally arise. 00:37:15.00\00:37:19.10 So it's being showed, lots of people. On the way over here 00:37:19.13\00:37:23.00 to ASI, stopped and preached at the Mariposa church. In the 00:37:23.04\00:37:26.91 audience a lady had just happened to have ordered 100 of 00:37:26.94\00:37:30.78 these beaver DVDs and she shared stories how she was distributing 00:37:30.81\00:37:35.15 them to people and witnessing to people, just like tracts. 00:37:35.18\00:37:39.15 Can you tell us one quick story? 00:37:39.19\00:37:41.82 Well one quick story, boy, we've got so many stories. Louie, I'm 00:37:41.86\00:37:46.26 thinking of Louie. Louie told me what you've done has changed 00:37:46.29\00:37:49.66 my life. He said, I needed to know that Saturday was still 00:37:49.70\00:37:53.54 God's Sabbath day or through time man has messed it up. So he 00:37:53.57\00:37:57.44 said, starting in 2013 when we started to produce the film, he 00:37:57.51\00:38:01.11 said I started searching the internet. I knew if any animal 00:38:01.14\00:38:04.71 would keep the Sabbath it would be beavers. So he searched for 00:38:04.75\00:38:07.42 three years and finally in 2016, that's when they finally got the 00:38:07.45\00:38:11.02 thing done. And it was in 2013 that he started searching that I 00:38:11.05\00:38:14.39 felt impressed to share that story. There are a number of 00:38:14.42\00:38:19.96 other stories. 00:38:20.00\00:38:21.33 Isn't that incredible. He's got so many more stories but we have 00:38:21.36\00:38:22.83 to end. What is your booth number? 00:38:22.86\00:38:24.83 Booth number 128. You can come and see it at the booth or you 00:38:24.90\00:38:28.50 can go to our website www. desiremedia. org. 00:38:28.54\00:38:32.21 He's got the DVDs there in case you would like to take one or to 00:38:32.27\00:38:36.34 share one with somebody, they're available. All righty. Thank you 00:38:36.38\00:38:40.28 There was a time when the earth was dark. It was an age of 00:38:40.32\00:38:47.66 grinding poverty, disease and death. The common people were 00:38:47.69\00:38:54.80 illiterate. They lived in fear of the judgment and hell. 00:38:54.83\00:39:01.87 The state church controlled all aspects of life from birth until 00:39:01.90\00:39:06.91 death. For a price the priest assured a better after life. 00:39:06.98\00:39:11.91 But this all changed with a new dawn in England. Minds were 00:39:11.95\00:39:19.72 awakened. Once the flame of the reformation was lit it was never 00:39:19.75\00:39:25.83 to be put out again. This is a story of courage and fortitude. 00:39:25.86\00:39:31.63 Against all odds, the burning of heretics and those who risked 00:39:31.67\00:39:38.57 their lives to follow the light. It is a struggle of ideas about 00:39:38.61\00:39:44.71 men's souls, their dreams and the purpose of life. The state 00:39:44.75\00:39:49.55 church responded by hunting down anyone who supported these 00:39:49.58\00:39:54.36 radical new beliefs and put them to death. Join us as we uncover 00:39:54.39\00:40:00.93 the heroic lives of those who led out in this movement and 00:40:00.96\00:40:04.67 changed the world forever. This is the story of Light Unshackled 00:40:04.70\00:40:12.94 Good evening ASI. I'm pastor Phil Mills. I'm joined with two 00:40:12.97\00:40:21.18 young people from my church, Daniel and Andrew Hosford. 00:40:21.22\00:40:24.59 This last May we had the privilege of shooting the 00:40:24.62\00:40:27.39 documentary you just say the trailer for. It's a four-part 00:40:27.42\00:40:31.43 series that traces the history of God moving during the dark 00:40:31.49\00:40:35.43 ages to protect his light and to start and reformation that would 00:40:35.46\00:40:40.67 transform the world. We watched God work a number of miracles 00:40:40.70\00:40:45.54 to bring us to this point. You know I'm thankful for an ASI 00:40:45.57\00:40:50.31 that believes in its young people. We had a budget of about 00:40:50.35\00:40:54.68 $40,000 and it was ASI members that stepped up and helped us 00:40:54.72\00:40:58.42 raise this money, believing in young people that they could 00:40:58.45\00:41:02.39 make a difference. What do you say? That was just one of the 00:41:02.42\00:41:05.83 miracles. God worked a series of others. Daniel, our time is 00:41:05.89\00:41:09.00 short, but I wonder if you could just share with us briefly one 00:41:09.03\00:41:12.40 of the miracles you saw God work while we were filming in Europe. 00:41:12.43\00:41:15.74 So as we were over in Europe in May we were there for a 00:41:15.77\00:41:21.44 month and as I'm sure all of you know weather is very important. 00:41:21.51\00:41:27.32 When we were over there, there was one morning... We'd had 00:41:27.35\00:41:33.92 perfect weather for about two weeks and it was just phenomenal 00:41:33.96\00:41:40.30 the way that God was working. One morning I woke up and we 00:41:40.33\00:41:45.50 went outside and it was just pouring down rain. It was just 00:41:45.53\00:41:50.67 raining like crazy. I'm like God what are we going to do? We have 00:41:50.71\00:41:53.94 to film this morning. So we got in the car and we started 00:41:53.98\00:41:57.65 heading out to our first location and it was then that I 00:41:57.68\00:42:01.28 realized that we were about to film the story of Luther in the 00:42:01.32\00:42:04.42 thunder storm. God just worked out the weather incredibly. 00:42:04.45\00:42:07.46 Amen! Isn't it amazing. God gave us rain on the only day that we 00:42:07.49\00:42:11.76 needed it to fit the script. What do you say? Now Andrew as 00:42:11.79\00:42:14.96 a young person there's a lot of things you could have done with 00:42:15.00\00:42:18.17 your summer. Why would you choose to travel across Europe 00:42:18.20\00:42:21.40 inside a van traveling thousands of kilometers, hours and hours 00:42:21.44\00:42:25.81 of driving. Why would you do that with your summer? 00:42:25.84\00:42:29.24 Well, it's kind of the life of a film maker. What inspired me 00:42:29.31\00:42:37.09 the most was to be in the places of these men and women as they 00:42:37.12\00:42:44.89 willingly gave their lives for the faith that they had in Jesus 00:42:44.93\00:42:50.37 Amen. And to be able to share that with other people. Daniel 00:42:50.40\00:42:54.27 there may be some people here that want to find out more 00:42:54.30\00:42:58.17 information. Maybe they want to show the Light Unshackled film 00:42:58.21\00:43:00.51 when it comes out in their churches. When is it coming out 00:43:00.54\00:43:02.84 and how can they find out more information about it? 00:43:02.88\00:43:05.38 So Light Unshackled is coming out this October. It's coming 00:43:05.41\00:43:09.25 out in conjunction with the 500- year anniversary of Martin 00:43:09.28\00:43:13.15 Luther nailing the 95 theses. For more information, you can 00:43:13.19\00:43:15.62 visit lightunshackled. com. There's more information you can 00:43:15.66\00:43:21.80 see; behind-the-scenes videos. To visit our booth, it's number 00:43:21.83\00:43:26.43 407 in the exhibit hall. We'll be there and we'll be happy to 00:43:26.47\00:43:30.97 talk with you. 00:43:31.01\00:43:32.34 My Bible First. Come, we would love to talk to you. We want 00:43:32.37\00:43:35.18 this to go out. It's available for free on YouTube and we're 00:43:35.21\00:43:38.55 excited to get this message going to the world. 00:43:38.58\00:43:41.58 Thank you so much. 00:43:41.62\00:43:42.95 All right, good evening ASI. For our final Members in Action 00:43:47.69\00:43:51.49 tonight I have a good friend of mine, Jared Thurman. Jared it's 00:43:51.53\00:43:55.33 good to see you here at ASI. Glad you are here. And Jared 00:43:55.36\00:43:59.20 you know those of us who have been here in Houston, we've been 00:43:59.23\00:44:00.90 seeing and hearing about this thing called Fruition all 00:44:00.94\00:44:03.10 week. We've seen the young adults walking around with their 00:44:03.14\00:44:06.01 Fruition badges and we've heard about this. Tell us about 00:44:06.04\00:44:08.84 what is Fruition? 00:44:08.88\00:44:10.21 Yeah, absolutely. Ellen White has an interesting phrase in the 00:44:10.25\00:44:13.55 book Christ's Object Lessons that religion and business 00:44:13.58\00:44:17.15 are not two separate things, they are one. So Fruition was 00:44:17.19\00:44:20.82 really inspired by this along with the concept in the Great 00:44:20.86\00:44:24.56 Controversy that says where the Waldensians were welcomed as 00:44:24.59\00:44:28.10 merchants, they would have been spurned as missionaries. So 00:44:28.13\00:44:32.03 Fruition was really birthed to create a new generation of 00:44:32.07\00:44:35.87 entrepreneurs with a mission mind of how to reach people 00:44:35.90\00:44:39.61 through the ministry of business So the last few days we've had 00:44:39.67\00:44:42.71 a number of successful Adventist entrepreneurs, men and women 00:44:42.74\00:44:46.15 sharing their stories, how their faith inspires their best work 00:44:46.21\00:44:49.58 and teaching those skills to others. 00:44:49.62\00:44:51.99 Excellent, excellent. And you know here at ASI we decided to 00:44:52.05\00:44:56.22 sponsor the Fruition event because we believe it's 00:44:56.59\00:44:59.33 important to invest in the next generation of Adventist business 00:44:59.39\00:45:02.66 leaders, Amen? I mean someone invested in us. You know someone 00:45:02.70\00:45:05.93 invested in us so that we could be here today. We need to invest 00:45:05.97\00:45:09.30 in the next generation. So we sponsor Fruition to be here as 00:45:09.34\00:45:12.57 a part of ASI this year. First Fruition was last year in 00:45:12.61\00:45:15.74 Phoenix, Arizona during the convention or right before the 00:45:15.78\00:45:18.71 ASI convention. But this year it happened right during 00:45:18.75\00:45:21.68 convention and they were right with us. 00:45:21.72\00:45:23.05 Let me share a story that came out of last year. There are now 00:45:23.08\00:45:27.16 out of that event some individuals came together 00:45:27.19\00:45:29.39 Seventh-day Adventist business men and women who realized it 00:45:29.42\00:45:34.46 takes means to do business. So a venture capital firm has been 00:45:34.50\00:45:39.10 formed with some individuals that want to use these means to 00:45:39.13\00:45:43.61 set up businesses in hard to reach places. Already businesses 00:45:43.64\00:45:48.21 are being set up in some of these regions and I can tell you 00:45:48.24\00:45:52.21 that there are countries, I visited the Middle East last 00:45:52.25\00:45:55.88 year, there are countries where the church is being asked to 00:45:55.92\00:45:59.49 leave and some countries actually auditing the books of 00:45:59.52\00:46:02.72 businesses making sure there's a profit or it's time to leave. 00:46:02.76\00:46:08.13 So we don't just need means to start businesses. These 00:46:08.16\00:46:11.93 businesses have to be sustainable, profitable and 00:46:11.97\00:46:15.50 filled with mission-minded individuals to be there. 00:46:15.57\00:46:19.07 So that's very exciting. 00:46:19.11\00:46:21.91 So that came out of Fruition last year? 00:46:21.94\00:46:23.38 It did and actually this group of individuals is seeking to 00:46:23.41\00:46:26.88 work very closely and is working very closely with the Seventh- 00:46:26.92\00:46:31.12 day Adventist organized church because the church knows regions 00:46:31.15\00:46:34.09 where this is very important. So I just want to make a quick 00:46:34.12\00:46:37.33 appeal. If the Lord has blessed you with money and you may want 00:46:37.36\00:46:40.76 a return on that money. This is an opportunity to do that and 00:46:40.80\00:46:44.17 to ensure that the person getting those funds has been 00:46:44.20\00:46:47.10 trained and equipped to make them a success. 00:46:47.14\00:46:49.94 Amen. Well it's really exciting to hear what came out of 00:46:49.97\00:46:52.77 Fruition last year. This year a lot of good stuff happened here 00:46:52.81\00:46:55.64 in the last two days. Tell us a little bit about what happened. 00:46:55.68\00:46:58.51 Yeah absolutely. We have a number of people come from 00:46:58.55\00:47:02.68 around the world who've got these ideas but they don't know 00:47:02.95\00:47:05.82 what to do with it, what's the next thing. And often, hey I've 00:47:05.85\00:47:09.42 got these unique things. I close on Saturdays, I have these 00:47:09.46\00:47:12.23 principles, I'm not going to cheat, I'm not going to steal. 00:47:12.26\00:47:15.00 There's nobody better that you want to hear some advice from 00:47:15.03\00:47:18.43 than somebody that shares those values. So workshops and 00:47:18.47\00:47:21.94 interactive time and people hearing from individuals who 00:47:21.97\00:47:24.97 sold their company for 500 million, 800 million dollars 00:47:25.01\00:47:28.01 whatever it may be. Sometimes it's nice though to hear from 00:47:28.04\00:47:31.35 somebody, I failed miserably. I want to tell you, don't give 00:47:31.38\00:47:34.32 up if you've failed miserably. So, it's been an encouraging 00:47:34.35\00:47:37.89 time. It's been nice that it's been here with ASI because a lot 00:47:37.92\00:47:41.42 of people have asked, hey Fruition ASI, what's that. 00:47:41.46\00:47:43.36 Maybe you could share what is the mission of ASI then I'd love 00:47:43.39\00:47:46.93 to share how is Fruition able to complement that. 00:47:46.96\00:47:49.53 OK, so the mission of ASI is to empower lay business people and 00:47:49.56\00:47:53.70 ministry leaders to share the gospel through their business, 00:47:53.74\00:47:57.21 through their market place so that Jesus will come. Amen? 00:47:57.24\00:48:00.68 That's the mission of ASI. So Jared, I'll ask you how does 00:48:00.71\00:48:04.15 Fruition fit into that mission? 00:48:04.18\00:48:05.55 Absolutely. So what we realized in some discussion over the last 00:48:05.58\00:48:10.25 10 years, I've been able to come to ASI year after year 00:48:10.29\00:48:13.15 and I recognize there is a generation of young Adventists 00:48:13.19\00:48:16.02 disappearing. I mean the statistics show 70 percent. 00:48:16.06\00:48:19.93 So of those that are staying, how do we ensure that they are 00:48:19.96\00:48:25.00 successful in getting into business, successful starting a 00:48:25.03\00:48:29.37 ministry and that they're the ones who are able to equip the 00:48:29.40\00:48:33.54 next generation and empower others to maintain this mission 00:48:33.58\00:48:37.15 in the world in the turbulent times that we find ourselves in. 00:48:37.21\00:48:40.65 We need more Adventist business people and we need more ministry 00:48:40.68\00:48:43.95 people, more ministry leaders. Jared where do we go from here 00:48:43.99\00:48:46.86 as we look as we look for the future for Fruition and ASI? 00:48:46.92\00:48:50.13 So back to that concept of needing mission-based businesses 00:48:50.16\00:48:53.93 around the world. Fruition really sees in discussions with 00:48:53.96\00:48:57.87 some of these territories, we have the equip individuals and 00:48:57.90\00:49:01.77 bring them on a journey. So there are plans in place for 00:49:01.80\00:49:06.41 developing an online curriculum to groom people so that if 00:49:06.44\00:49:10.85 you're given a half a million dollars to start a business in 00:49:10.88\00:49:15.18 X, we can ensure you're going to know what to do with that 00:49:15.22\00:49:19.75 money, know how to sustains that business, be totally equipped 00:49:19.79\00:49:23.39 that mission is your purpose for being there. So there are some 00:49:23.43\00:49:26.26 exciting things coming. We're holding some events on different 00:49:26.29\00:49:29.10 college campuses and our universities and I'm excited to 00:49:29.13\00:49:32.03 see what the Lord does with Fruition Lab. So if anybody's 00:49:32.10\00:49:34.94 interested, you have an idea, you want to invest or something, 00:49:34.97\00:49:37.54 Fruitionlab. org is the website. 00:49:37.94\00:49:39.67 Thank you Jared and thank you to Fruition for partnering with 00:49:39.74\00:49:43.01 us and being here at ASI this year. Thank you ASI. 00:49:43.04\00:49:45.08
