Bless us. Bless the continuing of this 00:01:04.39\00:01:08.13 convention We thank you for it, in Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:08.16\00:01:12.90 Amen. 00:01:12.93\00:01:16.30 ¤In the morning when I rise In the morning when I rise¤ 00:01:16.34\00:01:29.45 ¤In the morning when I rise/ Give me Jesus. ¤ 00:01:29.48\00:01:43.70 ¤Give me Jesus, Give me Jesus You may have all this world¤ 00:01:43.73\00:02:01.42 ¤but give me Jesus. We're glad to bring you another Offering In 00:04:02.64\00:04:09.01 Action segment, an interview with James Hartley, who is the 00:04:09.04\00:04:15.05 president of LIGHT, L-I-G-H-T, and James for those who might 00:04:15.08\00:04:20.96 possible not know what LIGHT is please explain what that acronym 00:04:20.99\00:04:26.80 is and a little bit about the ministry. 00:04:26.83\00:04:28.13 Sure, happy to. LIGHT stands for the Lay Institute for Global 00:04:28.16\00:04:29.80 Health Training. We're located in North Georgia on the campus 00:04:29.83\00:04:33.50 of Wildwood Lifestyle Center and our mission is to provide health 00:04:33.54\00:04:37.17 evangelism training to every church member worldwide. We want 00:04:37.21\00:04:40.54 training to be available in everyone's country and in their 00:04:40.58\00:04:43.91 language. So, we have a standardized curriculum that 00:04:43.95\00:04:46.45 we mainly use as a one-month intensive course. It's 125 hours 00:04:46.48\00:04:50.69 in length. We have that curriculum translated in 12 00:04:50.75\00:04:52.52 languages now. We're supporting 50 missionaries full time that 00:04:52.55\00:04:57.29 are overseas continually running these programs year 00:04:57.33\00:05:01.30 round on every continent. So in the past, ASI has been a 00:05:01.33\00:05:03.80 great support for us the past 10 years. We started in 2008. 00:05:03.87\00:05:06.27 This is kind of our 10th year. By God's grace we've seen well 00:05:07.50\00:05:11.34 over 20,000 church members trained through that program in 00:05:11.37\00:05:14.58 these years, 00:05:14.61\00:05:15.94 and we've seen tremendous impact that it's made in local churches 00:05:15.98\00:05:20.32 around the world in using health as an entering wedge for the 00:05:20.35\00:05:25.35 gospel. Now I remember talking with you 00:05:25.39\00:05:26.76 some time ago, James, and I was just amazed to hear how 00:05:26.79\00:05:29.89 God continues 00:05:29.92\00:05:31.26 to provide even when you don't know where it's coming from and 00:05:31.29\00:05:34.00 how it's going to happen. To see that you've been in existence 00:05:34.10\00:05:37.97 for 10 years and God has provided, many times through ASI 00:05:38.00\00:05:41.74 it's just remarkable. You talked 00:05:41.77\00:05:43.41 about impact. So what kind of impact have you see as a result 00:05:43.47\00:05:47.04 of LIGHT? 00:05:47.08\00:05:48.41 Well let me share a couple. One I 00:05:48.44\00:05:50.41 want to start in Brazil. You know there are more Seventh-day 00:05:50.45\00:05:52.85 Adventists living in Brazil than any other country. So, we've 00:05:52.88\00:05:55.68 worked very hard there. We've run dozens of LIGHT courses in 00:05:55.72\00:05:59.22 Brazil and we've really seen a lot of great fruits of recent... 00:05:59.25\00:06:02.92 Just two weeks ago we finished a one-month training course, and 00:06:02.96\00:06:06.19 this is a great story here. This family in the middle, husband 00:06:06.23\00:06:09.83 and wife and a couple children, were all baptized. They were not 00:06:09.86\00:06:13.74 Seventh-day Adventists when they came into our program. In fact, 00:06:13.77\00:06:17.14 we had five baptisms just out of that one one-month course. This 00:06:17.21\00:06:20.58 year there's been seven in Brazil. So it's kind of an 00:06:20.61\00:06:24.31 interesting take that we didn't really expect but sometime we 00:06:24.38\00:06:26.92 bring in people who are not Seventh-day Adventists into our 00:06:26.95\00:06:29.65 courses and they get amazed by the wholeness of the message. We 00:06:29.68\00:06:32.65 give them Bible Studies in the evening and they see the health 00:06:32.69\00:06:36.19 and the gospel working together and their health has improved, 00:06:36.22\00:06:39.26 their lives have changed and they're even joining the church. 00:06:39.29\00:06:42.30 Also in Brazil at around the same time we had a small 00:06:42.96\00:06:46.74 convention of graduates that we've had over recent years. 00:06:46.80\00:06:50.47 And it's interesting. The person that organized the convention 00:06:50.51\00:06:53.98 was not myself. It was the Union health director, the Rio 00:06:54.04\00:06:57.45 Dejenero Health director. So we've got a great relationship 00:06:57.51\00:07:00.05 with the church down there. They thought we needed to get 00:07:00.08\00:07:02.45 together, so they organized kind of a supporting ministry 00:07:02.48\00:07:05.79 themselves It was fantastic. There were 80 people there, 00:07:05.82\00:07:09.06 there were 15 ministries. And I think that out of the 15 all but 00:07:09.09\00:07:13.16 probably three were really as a result of LIGHT graduates that 00:07:13.19\00:07:17.17 had started these projects. So in the past year in Brazil there 00:07:17.20\00:07:20.84 have been over 300 health expos. It has really spread very broad. 00:07:20.87\00:07:24.14 So there's ministry starting up, there's church activity. That's 00:07:24.21\00:07:27.48 one of the examples of action results. 00:07:27.51\00:07:30.05 So you've had tremendous collaboration, sometimes without 00:07:30.08\00:07:33.18 even asking for it or looking for it. 00:07:33.21\00:07:34.95 Yeah, that's true. Let me share one other collaboration that 00:07:34.98\00:07:39.02 we've had is with MENAU, the Middle East North Africa Union. 00:07:39.05\00:07:42.66 We really have an interest, not only to work the areas like 00:07:42.69\00:07:46.23 Brazil where there is a bee hive of activity of Adventism but in 00:07:46.26\00:07:51.07 the Middle East there's not many We thought for a long time 00:07:51.10\00:07:53.60 what can we do? 00:07:53.64\00:07:56.04 This past year God helped us to raise some money to purchase a 00:07:56.10\00:07:59.61 home just across the Turkey border that would be used as a 00:07:59.64\00:08:03.68 training center for missionaries that would work throughout the 00:08:03.71\00:08:06.88 Middle East and North Africa. I've got a picture of the house 00:08:06.95\00:08:10.52 here. This is a simple structure but we've just had a graduation 00:08:10.55\00:08:14.39 of a six-month training course. We had 12 graduates there and 00:08:14.42\00:08:18.69 they are now working in Turkey kind of undercover, covertly, 00:08:18.73\00:08:23.47 because you can't outwardly preach the gospel or anything. 00:08:23.50\00:08:27.47 But we just finished a health expo. There's another slide of a 00:08:27.54\00:08:31.67 health expo here that was in Turkey with our graduates. Had a 00:08:31.71\00:08:35.88 tremendous turnout. Over 200 people came through. We see 00:08:35.91\00:08:39.11 health as a very effective tool in reaching the Muslim world. 00:08:39.15\00:08:43.92 So we're really excited about that. As well as yesterday 00:08:43.99\00:08:46.96 Svetlana shared a report from Kazachstan. We're also 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.86 also supporting them. This would be the first ever health 00:08:49.89\00:08:52.46 lifestyle center and mission training school in all of 00:08:52.49\00:08:54.93 central Asia as well as a very Muslim area. So we're studying 00:08:54.96\00:08:58.07 the health, we're studying the gospel and we're studying how to 00:08:58.10\00:09:01.27 reach Muslims with the right arm of the message. So just a few 00:09:01.30\00:09:04.37 testimonies from the field. 00:09:04.41\00:09:05.97 Excellent, excellent. So zero in on the specific details for this 00:09:06.01\00:09:11.15 particular project that's in the offing for this year. 00:09:11.18\00:09:13.85 Sure. So offering money will go toward supporting our 00:09:13.88\00:09:16.42 missionaries that are in the field. So it is more wide spread 00:09:16.45\00:09:19.79 that way, but the specifically we have a few really, really 00:09:19.82\00:09:24.39 fresh projects. One is working in China and we're just about 00:09:24.43\00:09:27.93 80 to 90 percent finished with our Chinese Mandarin translation 00:09:27.96\00:09:31.37 This is our manual now, if you can read that that. This is 00:09:31.40\00:09:34.77 Chinese Mandarin. We've got a couple Chinese right now at 00:09:34.80\00:09:38.97 Wildwood recording classes. So we have plans to establish a 00:09:39.04\00:09:43.14 small, covert, health school in southern China as well recording 00:09:43.18\00:09:47.12 an on-line school because with on-line we can make our training 00:09:47.15\00:09:51.02 available to any Adventist via the web. And especially in China 00:09:51.05\00:09:54.96 we think is going to be very useful. So we're working with 00:09:54.99\00:09:57.63 the Chinese Union Mission. Pastor Falkenburg and I have had 00:09:57.66\00:10:00.43 great conversations this ASI talking about this; how to use 00:10:00.50\00:10:03.43 our on-line training, how to use the manual and he sees great 00:10:03.47\00:10:06.43 potential for that, so we're really excited for the work in 00:10:06.47\00:10:09.40 China. Let me continue. There's also... for years I have to 00:10:09.44\00:10:15.14 admit we forgot about the children. Now I have a little 00:10:15.18\00:10:19.31 daughter and so my heart's been softened so now we produced 00:10:19.35\00:10:23.49 LIGHT for Kids. Maybe you can show a picture. This is our new 00:10:23.55\00:10:26.05 training manual. Okay. It is Light 4 Kids. It is going to 00:10:26.09\00:10:29.42 teach the eight laws of health and also the importance of 00:10:29.46\00:10:32.83 service and giving into the communities. So this will be a 00:10:32.86\00:10:35.56 couple examples of what it looks like. There'll be a lot of 00:10:35.60\00:10:38.23 activities. We'll go through the eight laws of health. There will 00:10:38.27\00:10:40.77 passive activities and workbook type things that they'll go 00:10:40.80\00:10:44.77 through. So this is going to be printed and distributed in 00:10:44.81\00:10:47.94 countries around the world. We're in the translation process 00:10:47.98\00:10:51.45 We're planning on using it with Pathfinders, we're going to use 00:10:51.48\00:10:54.88 it with vacation Bible schools, with evangelistic efforts, in 00:10:54.95\00:10:58.45 Adventist schools around the world, getting them started when 00:10:58.49\00:11:02.96 they're young. Lastly, I've got one other thing. This is a door- 00:11:02.99\00:11:07.40 to-door project. I've got a picture of a little booklet 00:11:07.40\00:11:10.03 that we've put together called Light Up Your Life!. It's 00:11:10.07\00:11:12.93 adopting a new health habit every week. It's a seven-week 00:11:12.97\00:11:16.17 program. So our door-to-door workers will go through and 00:11:16.20\00:11:19.54 introduce a new health habit each week and they will keep 00:11:19.57\00:11:22.98 track of their results. So this is on meal planning day. They 00:11:23.01\00:11:25.95 score themselves whether they ate a good breakfast that day 00:11:25.98\00:11:29.35 and they get a weekly score and the next week we'll talk about 00:11:29.38\00:11:33.25 sleep and water and so forth and we'll go through and using the 00:11:33.32\00:11:36.79 right arm of the gospel is about developing relationships. This 00:11:36.89\00:11:40.80 is how Christ worked. He won their confidence through 00:11:40.86\00:11:44.63 ministry to them. So we want to have a little time. So with our 00:11:44.70\00:11:48.24 health programs our health expos we're teaching follow-up 00:11:48.27\00:11:51.41 programs; the health clubs or you can develop the relationship. Through this 00:11:51.44\00:11:54.68 door-to-door program over seven weeks you'll be developing that 00:11:54.71\00:11:57.91 relationship and then transitioning it into more 00:11:57.95\00:12:00.75 spiritual programs, Bible studies and so forth. 00:12:00.82\00:12:03.49 Well James I'm excited to see how LIGHT is expanding all over 00:12:03.52\00:12:07.36 the world and in different areas, different arenas, moving 00:12:07.39\00:12:11.06 into children's programs and door-to-door. I look forward 00:12:11.09\00:12:14.73 to what God is going to do to our offering so that we can make 00:12:14.76\00:12:17.43 that happen. 00:12:17.47\00:12:18.80 Thank you, we appreciate the support. Let me just say if 00:12:18.83\00:12:20.17 anyone wanted to learn more of our ministry, we're in aisle 300 00:12:20.20\00:12:23.37 and our website is lightingtheworld. org. 00:12:23.41\00:12:27.34 Excellent. Thank you. 00:12:27.38\00:12:28.78 You know, God has called us all to be part of his body and there 00:12:28.84\00:12:34.42 are many members, part of the body of Christ. And one of the 00:12:34.45\00:12:40.02 most important reasons in my mind to be part of ASI is 00:12:40.06\00:12:43.39 because it's all of us coming together. And we're working 00:12:43.43\00:12:46.66 together. We're doing different things. The hand does different 00:12:46.70\00:12:49.70 things but those different things. We all have different 00:12:49.73\00:12:53.07 aspects but being part of ASI is exciting because we're moving 00:12:53.13\00:12:57.54 together as one body in unity to fulfill the mission that the 00:12:57.57\00:13:03.18 gospel can be proclaimed and we can go home. TMI - Total Member 00:13:03.21\00:13:08.88 Involvement is just a powerful thing that I see taking over the 00:13:08.92\00:13:14.59 church. It's not just about giving an evangelistic series, 00:13:14.62\00:13:18.33 not just an event, it's about a lifestyle, a lifestyle of 00:13:18.36\00:13:22.00 reaching out to those around you because we each have a witness, 00:13:22.03\00:13:25.17 we each have a circle of influence others don't have. We 00:13:25.20\00:13:28.57 And so we each need to be part of total member involvement. 00:13:28.60\00:13:32.01 The vision that God is calling us to fulfill is impossible in 00:13:32.04\00:13:36.04 our strength. But through his power we're told in Mark 10:27 00:13:36.08\00:13:39.75 things that are impossible with men are possible with God. So 00:13:39.78\00:13:43.45 through his power what we're praying for is going to be 00:13:43.49\00:13:47.06 accomplished. 00:13:47.12\00:13:51.53 Amen. Well we just heard on the video, Melody talked about total 00:13:51.56\00:13:55.90 member involvement and with me to my left is Elder Duane McKey 00:13:55.93\00:14:00.34 from the General Conference, President of Adventist World 00:14:00.37\00:14:02.24 Radio and you also happen to be the director of the total member 00:14:02.27\00:14:05.41 involvement initiative. That's right Kyle. 00:14:05.44\00:14:07.28 And someone's next to you. 00:14:07.31\00:14:08.64 Yes, Ranelle and she's my associate in the same department 00:14:08.68\00:14:12.91 I'm very blessed. Yeah, thank you, Kyle. I noticed that too. 00:14:12.95\00:14:17.19 Yes, I have very much so. So Elder McKey can you tell us why 00:14:17.22\00:14:20.86 total member involvement is so exciting and what is this... 00:14:20.89\00:14:24.39 Oh it's thrilling because I believe, I know Elder Wilson 00:14:24.43\00:14:27.86 believes with all his heart that the work will never be finished 00:14:27.93\00:14:30.17 Jesus will never come until all the members, because we're told 00:14:30.23\00:14:33.30 this, inspiration tells us that till all of us get involved 00:14:33.34\00:14:36.14 working together to finish the work so Jesus can come. That's 00:14:36.17\00:14:38.91 why I'm so excited about it. 00:14:38.94\00:14:41.14 And that's really the mission of ASI. All of our church 00:14:41.18\00:14:44.11 members get involved in sharing the gospel. Tell us, I think you 00:14:44.15\00:14:48.65 have some stories. 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.05 I have a story. We just came back from the Island of Mindoro. 00:14:50.09\00:14:52.85 We went there to prepare for a very special event because we 00:14:52.89\00:14:56.42 brought Japanese pastors and lay people from Japan, 52 of them, 00:14:56.46\00:14:59.83 to preach the first evangelistic meetings in their lives. One 00:14:59.86\00:15:03.23 conference president said, I have never even been to an 00:15:03.26\00:15:05.80 evangelistic meeting. Well, he said, I remember back when I was 00:15:05.83\00:15:08.27 a kid I went to one. So here he is preaching, these pastors 00:15:08.30\00:15:11.01 are preaching because next year we want to go to Japan and get 00:15:11.04\00:15:13.68 them excited, get them involved with total member involvement, 00:15:13.71\00:15:16.31 preparing for a series of meetings there as well. 00:15:16.34\00:15:18.98 So in the Philippines in Mendoro they all preached their first 00:15:19.05\00:15:23.62 meeting. To prepare for the meetings the lay people got 00:15:23.69\00:15:25.02 involved all across the island. We had nine radio stations, four 00:15:25.05\00:15:28.99 lay people who had never been broadcasting before, never been 00:15:29.02\00:15:32.56 at a radio station before, four of them at each of the stations 00:15:32.59\00:15:36.06 did all of the work, they broadcast daily 1-3 hours, nine 00:15:36.10\00:15:40.40 radio stations Perfecto. He's up in the mountains in Mendoro 00:15:40.44\00:15:44.71 He listens to one radio station every day and on that radio 00:15:44.74\00:15:48.14 station all of a sudden there's different programing. It's our 00:15:48.18\00:15:51.21 programing, AWR, and he's listening to it. He says this is 00:15:51.25\00:15:54.28 different. He got his kids on it and they all listened. They got 00:15:54.32\00:15:57.25 the question of the day, a special question that went out 00:15:57.29\00:15:59.62 the day before. Then if they got it right then they could get a 00:15:59.65\00:16:02.49 special gift. So people came from the radio station, lay 00:16:02.52\00:16:05.36 people, went up in the mountains, started giving him 00:16:05.39\00:16:08.30 Bible studies. Perfecto was a pagan, never been to church 00:16:08.33\00:16:14.97 before in his life. I baptized him three weeks ago with 120 00:16:15.00\00:16:17.61 of his villagers because all the lay people of the island were 00:16:17.64\00:16:20.18 actively involved. They sponsored it themselves. 00:16:20.21\00:16:22.94 That wouldn't have happened if the lay people hadn't gotten 00:16:22.98\00:16:25.61 involved. That's right. It was their 00:16:25.65\00:16:27.22 project. They did it. 00:16:27.25\00:16:28.58 How about here in America? Do we see that happening here in 00:16:28.62\00:16:30.82 America. Absolutely, we sure do. 00:16:30.89\00:16:32.42 It's thrilling and exciting as we all get involved in our 00:16:32.49\00:16:35.76 churches and again, Jesus won't come until that happens. 00:16:35.79\00:16:39.03 So, Elder McKey, you have next to you... 00:16:39.06\00:16:42.30 Ranela. Yes, she believes in TMI, Total Member Involvement 00:16:42.33\00:16:45.70 Something special is going to happen this afternoon. What time 00:16:45.73\00:16:49.07 was that? I forgot. 00:16:49.10\00:16:50.47 Yes, we're having a seminar on Total Member Involvement from 00:16:50.51\00:16:54.78 2- 3:15 p. m. It's actually not during any other seminar time. 00:16:54.81\00:16:59.65 It's just after lunch, so we hope to see everyone there. 00:16:59.68\00:17:02.88 Wait, wait, wait. You said not during any other seminar time. 00:17:02.92\00:17:05.99 That means there's no excuse. There's no excuse. We should see 00:17:06.02\00:17:08.96 everyone there. 00:17:08.99\00:17:10.36 Who's coming to the TMI seminar this afternoon. 00:17:10.39\00:17:11.96 Amen, amen. 00:17:11.99\00:17:13.43 Elder Wilson's going to be with us and others. 00:17:13.46\00:17:16.10 Yes, Elder Wilson will be there. You'll be there. Ranela will be 00:17:16.13\00:17:19.23 there. Our friend Mike Tuazon is going to be there speaking. 00:17:19.27\00:17:22.17 Ranela, I just want to know why you are so passionate about 00:17:22.20\00:17:25.04 Total Member Involvement? What drives you for this? 00:17:25.07\00:17:29.48 Well 12 years ago when I was 15 I preached my first evangelistic 00:17:29.51\00:17:33.82 series in Africa. And I have grown up 7th-day Adventist my 00:17:33.85\00:17:37.39 whole life. My dad was a pastor. But it really hadn't become my 00:17:37.42\00:17:40.79 own. And when I started preaching, I started sharing the 00:17:40.86\00:17:43.73 message that we have, my eyes were opened and a light bulb 00:17:43.83\00:17:46.80 went off and I realized, wow, I really want people to know 00:17:46.83\00:17:49.63 about the message we have, and since then for the last 12 years 00:17:49.70\00:17:53.17 I've dedicated my life to seeing church members, young people, 00:17:53.23\00:17:56.71 alike, everyone to be able to have that moment where they 00:17:56.77\00:17:59.81 realize the real meaning of life the real joy in life is service 00:17:59.87\00:18:04.68 and hastening Jesus's coming. 00:18:04.71\00:18:06.61 Do you see why I just hired Ranela and Adventist World 00:18:06.65\00:18:12.12 Radio to be one of our associates. 00:18:12.15\00:18:13.49 Don't worry, I see why, and I'm glad you did. This way she's 00:18:13.52\00:18:18.29 closer to me. But Elder McKey, so we want everyone to come this 00:18:18.33\00:18:20.33 afternoon to the Total Member Involvement Seminar. 00:18:20.36\00:18:24.40 What time was that. Two p. m. in room 360F. Third 00:18:24.43\00:18:28.47 level and up there somewhere. 00:18:28.50\00:18:30.51 Now for those that are watching online or on 3ABN, how can they 00:18:30.54\00:18:32.84 get involved in the Total Member Involvement initiative? 00:18:32.87\00:18:35.08 Oh absolutely. You know on the website, they can look there. 00:18:35.11\00:18:37.28 On Facebook, I think Ranela is just putting some things up on 00:18:37.35\00:18:40.52 Facebook for you. Talk to your pastor. Talk to your church 00:18:40.55\00:18:43.42 leaders and say we want to do something. We have to have a 00:18:43.49\00:18:46.45 plan in our church to help finish the work in our community 00:18:46.49\00:18:50.13 because even though the work may be finished in Africa, Jesus 00:18:50.16\00:18:53.16 won't come until it's finished in Scotland, until it's finished 00:18:53.19\00:18:56.16 in America, et cetera. 00:18:56.20\00:18:57.90 Well thank you. God bless you Elder McKey, Ranela. God bless 00:18:57.93\00:19:01.94 you and the Total Member Involvement initiative will 00:19:01.97\00:19:05.04 continue to grow and strengthen and we'll see you at 2 o'clock. 00:19:05.07\00:19:09.68 All right. Amen. Wonderful. Well next up we have a very 00:19:09.71\00:19:13.38 special friend of mine, Randy Bates. 00:19:13.45\00:19:16.05 Good morning Kyle. 00:19:16.08\00:19:17.42 It's good to see you Randy. Thanks for joining me here at 00:19:17.45\00:19:21.69 ASI. How many of you have seen those little signs that say 70 00:19:21.72\00:19:25.96 on them here at the convention? Because it is our 70th 00:19:25.99\00:19:30.20 anniversary, right? Well I learned last night that one of 00:19:30.27\00:19:34.57 our member ministries of ASI, the Quiet Hour, is actually 00:19:34.60\00:19:38.91 celebrating 80 years. So you beat us by 10 years. 00:19:38.94\00:19:42.98 I wasn't there when it began though, just to clarify. 00:19:43.01\00:19:46.95 OK. So Randy you're the director and present CEO of Quiet Hour. 00:19:47.02\00:19:50.32 That's correct. Tell us a little bit about the 00:19:50.39\00:19:52.89 history of Quiet Hour and what the mission of this organization 00:19:52.92\00:19:55.79 is. Thank you Kyle. The History of 00:19:55.82\00:19:57.53 Quiet Hour began July 7, 1937 when J. L. Tucker, a pastor in 00:19:57.63\00:20:01.33 the Portland area, was given the opportunity, the unexpected 00:20:01.36\00:20:05.13 opportunity, to do a radio broadcast because of leftover 00:20:05.17\00:20:08.64 time from an evangelistic series J.L. says that when he did that 00:20:08.70\00:20:13.14 first live broadcast his knees were applauding under the table. 00:20:13.17\00:20:17.61 He was so nervous. That broadcast grew into a twice- 00:20:17.65\00:20:21.82 a- day broadcast. Twelve years later Quiet Hour pioneered 00:20:21.85\00:20:25.79 Adventist television in the Oakland area with a television 00:20:25.82\00:20:30.19 program on KGO, again broadcast live. None of this edit and 00:20:30.23\00:20:34.56 reedit and fix it up. So that's how Quiet Hour began. We are now 00:20:34.56\00:20:40.37 located in Redlands, California where we do international 00:20:40.40\00:20:43.87 mission trips helping the lay people become involved in 00:20:43.94\00:20:47.54 international evangelism. And Quiet Hour's mission trips are 00:20:47.58\00:20:50.71 unique in that we don't just do church construction, we don't 00:20:50.78\00:20:53.85 just do children's programming or medical clinics or 00:20:53.88\00:20:56.82 evangelism meetings. We do all four of those. We think that's 00:20:56.85\00:21:00.66 important because that's really Jesus' method of evangelism, 00:21:00.69\00:21:04.26 right? He mingled with the people, he met their needs and 00:21:04.33\00:21:07.83 then he shared a message with them. That's Quiet Hour's method 00:21:07.86\00:21:11.20 as well. We mingle with the people and meet their needs 00:21:11.23\00:21:14.10 through medical clinics and dental and optical clinics. We 00:21:14.14\00:21:16.87 also do children's programming and church construction and then 00:21:16.91\00:21:20.44 we share with them that all- important message of how much 00:21:20.48\00:21:23.21 Jesus loves them and how much he cares for them. That's the heart 00:21:23.24\00:21:26.55 and soul of Quiet Hour Ministries. 00:21:26.58\00:21:28.25 Amen. So Randy that sounds really exciting and do you have 00:21:28.32\00:21:32.12 any stories that you could share with us today. I mean, you've 00:21:32.15\00:21:35.92 tons of stories. 00:21:35.96\00:21:37.29 We do. Now Kyle you should actually have some stories 00:21:37.33\00:21:39.56 yourself. You were on a Quiet Hour mission trip and actually 00:21:39.59\00:21:42.63 led a Quiet Hour mission trip as well. 00:21:42.66\00:21:44.37 That's really true. Actually I can personally say that the 00:21:44.40\00:21:47.20 Quiet Hour mission trip, I've gone on two of them or three of 00:21:47.27\00:21:50.04 them. They were very, very influential in my life. 00:21:50.07\00:21:51.51 First when I was a speaker and then when I was able to lead my 00:21:51.57\00:21:55.64 church to go on a Quiet Hour trip. I can tell you, seeing 00:21:55.68\00:21:58.38 people get involved in mission, total member involvement, 00:21:58.41\00:22:01.15 seeing the church members helping preach or helping run 00:22:01.18\00:22:05.09 VBS or helping run a medical clinic, it is so inspiring to 00:22:05.12\00:22:08.99 see them get on fire for missions. Because really they 00:22:09.02\00:22:12.19 come home and they're more energized to do the work. 00:22:12.23\00:22:15.36 Absolutely. Quiet Hour is such a blessing. 00:22:15.40\00:22:16.97 I want to thank you for the ministry you guys do. 00:22:17.03\00:22:18.57 Thank you for your help. We couldn't do it without 00:22:18.60\00:22:20.10 volunteers like Kyle and you guys. You're welcome to come 00:22:20.14\00:22:22.90 and join us too. I do want to tell you a couple of stories. 00:22:22.94\00:22:26.64 The first story has to do with why I am so passionate about 00:22:26.68\00:22:30.41 evangelism. It was in 2009. It was in Cusco, Peru and I was 00:22:30.45\00:22:34.82 preaching my first series. My first sermon. Part of the New 00:22:34.85\00:22:38.69 Beginning series sponsored by ASI and I was preaching the 00:22:38.72\00:22:42.52 series the sermon about how we have an advocate in the court 00:22:42.99\00:22:44.86 Series the sermon about how we have an advocate in the court of 00:22:44.89\00:22:46.76 heaven, a friend in the court of heaven, how Jesus is our 00:22:46.80\00:22:50.50 advocate there. And in the audience was a lady who was 00:22:50.53\00:22:54.07 weeping and I could tell that her weeping was not just 00:22:54.10\00:22:58.01 external but it came from a deep place inside her. She was 00:22:58.04\00:23:02.01 weeping because she came from a Christian faith where the 00:23:02.61\00:23:06.35 judgment was something to be feared, not something to embrace 00:23:06.38\00:23:09.42 not something to be excited and enthusiastic about. As she wept 00:23:09.45\00:23:13.69 my heart was touched because I realized I had watched a miracle 00:23:13.76\00:23:17.96 happen right in front of my eyes God had changed a life, changed 00:23:18.03\00:23:22.16 a heart right in front of me and I got to be part of that. What 00:23:22.20\00:23:26.37 an exciting moment and it has changed my life since. I now 00:23:26.40\00:23:30.07 am absolutely committed to helping others have that same 00:23:30.11\00:23:33.64 experience because, it does, it changes your life forever. My 00:23:33.74\00:23:37.68 second story has to do with that kind of thing as well. One of 00:23:37.71\00:23:41.68 our team members came on a mission trip with us to San 00:23:41.72\00:23:44.92 Vicente, Columbia. Now this team member did not want to be there. 00:23:44.95\00:23:50.09 She was 16. She came because her parents had decided they 00:23:50.13\00:23:54.13 needed to do something other than vacations with their time 00:23:54.20\00:23:57.80 off. And so they wanted to do a mission trip. She did not want 00:23:57.83\00:24:01.57 to be there and it was very obvious. Any of you who are 00:24:01.60\00:24:04.31 familiar with 16 year olds know that when they're not happy it's 00:24:04.34\00:24:08.61 pretty apparent, right? You could tell by her posture, by 00:24:08.64\00:24:11.91 her demeanor, by her facial expressions. She did not want 00:24:11.95\00:24:15.15 to be there. But she had come and she engaged and participated 00:24:15.18\00:24:19.35 She actually was part of the children's programing doing the 00:24:19.39\00:24:23.53 VBS for the the kids in San Vicente. That experience 00:24:23.56\00:24:28.40 changed her so much that by the end of the week that we were 00:24:28.46\00:24:32.17 there, she was on stage in front of 400 people giving her 00:24:32.20\00:24:35.67 testimony about how God had changed her life through that 00:24:35.70\00:24:39.67 mission trip. She spoke Spanish and English but she was so 00:24:39.71\00:24:43.81 emotionally involved in the story that she wanted to tell 00:24:43.85\00:24:48.08 it in English which meant that her father translated that 00:24:48.12\00:24:51.79 message into Spanish to the audience. Can you imagine being 00:24:51.82\00:24:55.72 parent and translating your child's testimony that happened 00:24:55.76\00:25:00.43 in the last week. Oh what an inspiring moment. And that's 00:25:00.46\00:25:04.57 why we do mission trips because it does change people. 00:25:04.60\00:25:08.54 It changes those who go and it changes those who hear the 00:25:08.57\00:25:12.44 message. Amen, that is so powerful Randy. 00:25:12.47\00:25:14.54 I can definitely tell you that I have seen that same experience 00:25:14.58\00:25:18.18 I've watched persons who go on those trips and seen their lives 00:25:18.21\00:25:21.78 changed by being involved in evangelism. Now as we look 00:25:21.85\00:25:25.05 to the future, Quiet Hour is 80 years in now and by God's grace 00:25:25.09\00:25:29.19 we're very close to the soon coming of the Lord. But what is 00:25:29.22\00:25:33.26 ahead just in the future for Quiet Hour? 00:25:33.29\00:25:35.53 What's ahead in the future for Quiet Hour is we want to 00:25:35.56\00:25:37.97 continue this legacy that God has blessed us with. In the last 00:25:38.03\00:25:41.17 10 years Quiet Hour has been in every single division of the 00:25:41.20\00:25:44.74 World Church. We've been in 88 countries. We've had more than 00:25:44.77\00:25:48.68 5000 team members go out, more that 2200 evangelistic series 00:25:48.71\00:25:52.71 have been presented and more than 90,000 people have been 00:25:52.75\00:25:56.42 Baptized. Amen. We are so excited to see that continue. 00:25:56.45\00:26:00.12 We're starting with a new sermon series called My Friend Jesus. 00:26:00.19\00:26:03.86 Helping people to build that relationship with Jesus that is 00:26:03.89\00:26:07.46 so important, so important. So if you have a school, your 00:26:07.50\00:26:10.60 church, anybody that would be interested in going on a mission 00:26:10.67\00:26:14.04 trip, please contact Quiet Hour Ministries. We would love to 00:26:14.07\00:26:17.41 help you do that. We can be reached at 00:26:17.44\00:26:19.44 QHMinistries. org; that's our web site. There's our phone 00:26:19.47\00:26:23.11 number, everything else that you could need to contact us. 00:26:23.18\00:26:26.82 And you have a booth here at the exhibit hall? 00:26:26.85\00:26:28.22 We do not have a booth this year It's just me. So find me, I'll 00:26:28.25\00:26:32.12 be happy to talk to you. I love to tell stories. 00:26:32.15\00:26:34.09 Thank you Randy, God bless you. And may God continue to bless 00:26:34.16\00:26:36.66 and expand the work at Quiet Hour. 00:26:36.73\00:26:38.49 Thank you so much Kyle. Thank you ASI. 00:26:38.53\00:26:39.86 The main reason I do who I do is because I'm really just tired. 00:26:39.89\00:26:50.17 Every time I hear the news, every time I look around me, I 00:26:50.21\00:26:54.88 see the world is just a mess. Horrible stories coming in from 00:26:54.91\00:26:59.05 overseas. You look at the news paper, or you just look around 00:26:59.08\00:27:03.25 the neighborhood and you see people in pain and misery. 00:27:03.28\00:27:06.72 Whether that's in society or whether it's just somebody over 00:27:06.79\00:27:11.56 here whose marriage is falling apart, some kid who's lonely. 00:27:11.59\00:27:15.53 All these horrible things that are going on in the world. You 00:27:15.56\00:27:19.53 got some people, it seems like they wake up in the morning 00:27:19.57\00:27:23.54 trying to figure out how to make the world more miserable, 00:27:23.61\00:27:28.91 more painful. And I just decided that enough is enough and I 00:27:28.94\00:27:32.51 just figured if there are going to be people out there in the 00:27:32.55\00:27:35.98 trying to make the world a miserable place, I for one was 00:27:36.02\00:27:39.35 going to be one person who was pushing back and going the other 00:27:39.42\00:27:43.66 way. I wanted to make sure that there was at least somebody 00:27:43.73\00:27:47.00 standing up for the truth, somebody standing up for what 00:27:47.03\00:27:50.13 was right, standing up to help somebody who was hurting. I 00:27:50.23\00:27:54.74 might not be able to change the world but that drives me. I am 00:27:54.77\00:27:59.17 so angry at all the stuff that goes on in the world and my 00:27:59.21\00:28:03.58 revenge is to something good, my revenge is to do something 00:28:03.61\00:28:09.62 right. My revenge when people are hurting is to help. 00:28:09.65\00:28:16.76 We have another offering in action segment for you. This is 00:28:16.79\00:28:21.93 a project report. Chester Clark is a board member of Ouachita 00:28:22.00\00:28:26.84 Hills in Amity, Arkansas. Tell us what was the project and how 00:28:26.94\00:28:31.71 was the money used? 00:28:31.74\00:28:33.07 Well you know we really appreciate ASI because there's 00:28:33.11\00:28:36.11 a vision not just help our self-supporting institutions 00:28:36.14\00:28:39.11 but also to help them help themselves. And through your 00:28:39.15\00:28:42.65 generous funding we were able to build a warehouse to house 00:28:42.68\00:28:46.19 our literature evangelism books. Now what this does for us is 00:28:46.22\00:28:50.16 several things. But importantly it helps us to buy books in 00:28:50.23\00:28:53.70 larger quantities so that our students, when they go out and 00:28:53.73\00:28:57.17 sell them can have more profit, the school can have more profit 00:28:57.23\00:29:00.77 and we can continue to do this work and bless others. 00:29:00.80\00:29:06.04 Now beyond the students at Ouachita Hills Academy and 00:29:06.07\00:29:10.48 college, there are other benefits that other schools were 00:29:10.51\00:29:14.78 able to benefit from this, right? 00:29:14.82\00:29:16.15 That is because we are able to buy in such larger quantities. 00:29:16.18\00:29:19.29 For example, the different organizations, schools, unions 00:29:19.32\00:29:23.09 publishing departments, had gotten together to try to buy a 00:29:23.12\00:29:26.09 printing together to get the price down. They were hoping to 00:29:26.13\00:29:29.23 get the price down about 25 percent, but with the larger 00:29:29.26\00:29:32.37 warehouse and inventory we're able to have we made a larger 00:29:32.40\00:29:35.57 order and we were able to get the price down 37 percent 00:29:35.60\00:29:38.71 from what we usually would pay for them and that helped all of 00:29:38.74\00:29:42.38 us, all the different schools and publishing workers around 00:29:42.41\00:29:46.01 the North American Division. 00:29:46.05\00:29:47.42 So it really is a phenomenal collaboration to get the word 00:29:47.45\00:29:52.12 our through literature evangelism. 00:29:52.15\00:29:54.16 And I think it's also perhaps one of the largest, if not the 00:29:54.19\00:29:57.99 largest one day structure that we've built so far. It's a 00:29:58.03\00:30:00.90 beautiful warehouse. You'll see more about that in a minute. 00:30:00.93\00:30:03.93 OK, so we can go ahead and roll that video now. All right. 00:30:03.97\00:30:09.97 Canvassing is part of our curriculum. It helps the school, 00:30:10.01\00:30:15.84 it helps the students, and most importantly it helps us as a 00:30:15.88\00:30:20.78 army of youth to fulfill the gospel commission. We distribute 00:30:20.82\00:30:25.62 over 71,000 books a year. But what if other schools and 00:30:25.65\00:30:32.73 churches or families want to do the same, but they don't have 00:30:32.76\00:30:36.70 the volume to get the discounted prices. With the in mind, ASI 00:30:36.80\00:30:40.70 supported Ouachita Hills Warehouse project and in October 00:30:40.77\00:30:44.97 2016, 65 students, the canvassers themselves and 00:30:45.01\00:30:49.58 volunteers came together to build the first one-day 00:30:49.64\00:30:54.15 warehouse. What's exciting is just knowing 00:30:54.25\00:31:03.83 that the books that are going to be housed in this building 00:31:03.86\00:31:06.23 won't stay here long, but they're going to be going out 00:31:06.26\00:31:10.03 around the world. God is going to use this to make a_ 00:31:10.07\00:31:13.84 for the work. It's exciting to see all the students working 00:31:13.90\00:31:15.57 together. It's just like Nehemiah's day when all hands 00:31:15.60\00:31:19.31 were on deck seeing the work done in a quick, timely fashion. 00:31:19.34\00:31:23.04 It's been an amazing experience watching the exterior phase. 00:31:23.08\00:31:26.78 So exciting I can't wait to see it fully up. 00:31:26.82\00:31:29.88 Today in Amity, Arkansas we have a center where small 00:31:29.92\00:31:34.96 institutions, churches and individuals can order canvassing 00:31:34.99\00:31:38.43 books at a discounted price thanks to the vision and 00:31:38.46\00:31:41.66 generosity of ASI members. 00:31:41.70\00:31:44.50 I've never seen God's promises so real as I have in canvassing. 00:31:44.53\00:31:49.34 This work has changed my life. This could be your experience in 00:31:49.40\00:31:53.71 your church, in your school and in your own life. Thank you ASI 00:31:53.81\00:31:58.05 for your faithful commitment to finishing the work. 00:31:58.08\00:32:06.76 That's incredible, Chester. Very remarkable. 00:32:06.79\00:32:09.96 We're just very grateful for ASI for their vision, for their 00:32:10.03\00:32:13.26 assistance and we just pray that these books will be a blessing 00:32:13.29\00:32:16.50 to many. I was reading in Publishing Ministry recently 00:32:16.53\00:32:20.04 about latent baptisms, and that is that people are reading 00:32:20.10\00:32:23.77 truths that as the end events happen, the Holy Spirit is going 00:32:23.81\00:32:26.98 give power to what they've been reading and many are going to be 00:32:27.04\00:32:29.84 converted to the truth by the books that are already out there 00:32:29.88\00:32:32.65 And the many that are still to be sold. So thank you ASI. 00:32:32.68\00:32:35.68 Thank you very much, Chester. 00:32:37.05\00:32:38.39 Our next interview I'd like to introduce by way of video. 00:32:38.42\00:32:41.32 Let's watch. 00:32:41.36\00:32:44.13 So I'm an energy advisor. I specialize advising individuals 00:32:58.07\00:33:04.18 with their solar needs as well as air conditioning, any 00:33:04.25\00:33:09.02 electric or gas questions they have. My job is to make sure 00:33:09.05\00:33:12.69 that their home is more energy efficient which helps the 00:33:12.72\00:33:16.59 environment out, which also helps the community out, helps 00:33:16.62\00:33:19.76 the customers out save money so it's a win/win. It's a great 00:33:19.79\00:33:23.13 way to help provide for me family God has blessed me with. 00:33:23.16\00:33:26.50 When I first met this 00:33:26.53\00:33:27.87 guy my friend that introduced me to. He gave me all the 00:33:27.90\00:33:30.87 answers straight from the Bible and that's what I respected 00:33:30.91\00:33:35.01 about Adventist faith, answers came directly from the Bible and 00:33:35.04\00:33:38.58 it wasn't man's opinion or man's understanding. So I was very 00:33:38.61\00:33:42.12 blessed by that. Today my wife and I are Seventh-day Adventists 00:33:42.15\00:33:45.59 We've been blessed by the church more importantly by our Savior 00:33:45.62\00:33:49.09 Jesus Christ. It's just actually a blessing to have him in our 00:33:49.12\00:33:52.56 lives to save our marriage. Today he's blessed us with a 00:33:52.59\00:33:55.90 good family, two wonderful kids, a son and daughter, and just 00:33:55.93\00:34:00.44 absolutely blessed. So we're very appreciative of our friends 00:34:00.47\00:34:04.81 and those who led us to Christ and we feel that it's our 00:34:04.84\00:34:09.41 desire to lead others to Christ as well. The thing is in our 00:34:09.44\00:34:13.25 community, our neighborhood, there's not as many Adventists 00:34:13.28\00:34:17.02 however, there's an Adventist right below us. Since they moved 00:34:17.09\00:34:20.79 in about three months ago we started thinking OK how can we 00:34:20.86\00:34:24.23 evangelize our little area together. So we started inviting 00:34:24.26\00:34:27.20 our neighbors, family members and friends, non-Adventists to 00:34:27.23\00:34:30.33 come over and study. So it's been an absolute blessing. We've 00:34:30.37\00:34:33.50 reached out to some of our neighbors by just simply 00:34:33.54\00:34:35.87 inviting them out Friday nights. Sometimes it might be a little 00:34:35.94\00:34:38.84 challenging for them. But the secret is keep being persistent 00:34:38.87\00:34:41.81 and they eventually come. They may not come every night but 00:34:41.84\00:34:45.85 at least they seize upon it. It's absolutely amazing to see 00:34:45.91\00:34:49.55 people who are hungering for the truth. They want to study and 00:34:49.58\00:34:53.32 they're anxious to study and here we have the truth and the 00:34:53.36\00:34:56.99 only way to get out there is by making the effort, taking action 00:34:57.03\00:34:58.79 and going out there and wanting to study with people. It's just 00:34:58.83\00:35:00.73 really good to know the Bible, because if you know that you 00:35:02.76\00:35:06.40 know the Bible people will bring people to you. That's exactly 00:35:06.43\00:35:09.74 what happened to this guy named Alfonzo here. His daughter 00:35:09.77\00:35:12.71 brought him to me and we began studying the Bible and before 00:35:12.74\00:35:16.11 you know it the daughter studies the Bible and the father gets 00:35:16.14\00:35:19.08 baptized, the daughter does profession of faith, her friend 00:35:19.11\00:35:22.35 Greg gets baptized and now her two brothers, I believe, are 00:35:22.38\00:35:25.82 baptized. One is a deacon in the church. I believe even the mom 00:35:25.85\00:35:31.03 is now doing Bible studies. So absolutely amazing. So Alfonzo, 00:35:31.06\00:35:36.00 he loves the Lord, I can tell. It's just amazing to see his 00:35:36.03\00:35:40.97 whole family and households come together in Christ. 00:35:41.00\00:35:47.88 Excellent. Michael Tuazon is a director for ISHARE and for 00:35:47.94\00:35:54.42 Souls West. You kind of wear a couple of hats. Tell us so I saw 00:35:54.45\00:35:57.55 that at the end of the Total Member Involvement but what does 00:35:57.59\00:36:00.69 ISHARE have to do with it? 00:36:00.72\00:36:03.32 ISHARE is an acronym. It's a ministry of the Pacific Union 00:36:03.36\00:36:06.46 Conference and it stands for I Seek To Help Advance Revival 00:36:06.49\00:36:09.70 and Evangelism. When the General Conference was coming up with 00:36:09.73\00:36:12.60 this initiative of Total Member Involvement they realized that 00:36:12.63\00:36:15.47 in the West Coast, Souls West and Glow and ISHARE we were 00:36:15.50\00:36:21.08 were doing this already. We were getting young people and laity 00:36:21.11\00:36:24.61 involved and so they asked us to make some videos to feature 00:36:24.65\00:36:28.82 all of these people who now are Seventh-day Adventists and are 00:36:28.85\00:36:33.76 winning others to Christ. So we made these small videos and we 00:36:33.79\00:36:38.59 want them to go viral basically. 00:36:38.63\00:36:40.00 So what do you hope to accomplish by using these 00:36:40.93\00:36:43.37 vignettes. What we want to do is we realize 00:36:43.43\00:36:45.30 that there are many people who are doing evangelism and a lot 00:36:45.33\00:36:48.37 of times we don't know it. We're in a local church and maybe we 00:36:48.40\00:36:51.41 feel alone, maybe we feel like we're the only ones doing 00:36:51.44\00:36:54.84 it and so we thought that one way we can do this is feature 00:36:54.88\00:36:58.51 stories from all over the Pacific Union, where I'm from, 00:36:58.55\00:37:02.62 and hopefully inspire others, church members and others, and 00:37:02.65\00:37:05.65 it can go viral. They can share it via social media, they can 00:37:05.69\00:37:09.06 share it at their church. I hope you saw this and I hope you're 00:37:09.12\00:37:11.96 inspired to share this at your church now. And that's what we 00:37:11.99\00:37:15.56 really want. We want people to go out and reach others for 00:37:15.60\00:37:18.63 Jesus. Well it's interesting you say 00:37:18.70\00:37:20.04 that because that's exactly what I thought. I said I could get my 00:37:20.07\00:37:22.87 hands on that video and share it with my church members. So 00:37:22.90\00:37:26.98 if the people here would are interested in getting a hold of 00:37:27.01\00:37:30.45 these, then how can they get more information? 00:37:30.48\00:37:32.58 Well this just hot off the press We've just made these. One way 00:37:32.61\00:37:36.25 is we have the Total Member Involvement seminar tomorrow. 00:37:36.28\00:37:39.25 Myself, Ted Wilson, Ranela, Duane McKey. We're going to be 00:37:39.29\00:37:41.82 talking about more methods and we're going to show more videos 00:37:41.86\00:37:44.63 just like these, but we're going to be putting them on the 00:37:44.66\00:37:47.10 website. They'll be on the General Conference Total Member 00:37:47.13\00:37:49.40 Involvement website and you can also check out our 00:37:49.43\00:37:53.17 ishareconference. org and we're going to have them up there in 00:37:53.20\00:37:54.94 the future. OK. Excellent. Michael thank 00:37:54.97\00:37:57.17 you so much for this brainstorm and for giving me more 00:37:57.21\00:38:00.11 information about ISHARE. 00:38:00.14\00:38:01.48 Thank you for having me Debbie. You're Welcome. 00:38:01.51\00:38:03.58 And now coming to join me is Randy Bivens. Randy Bivens is 00:38:03.61\00:38:09.48 the chief operating officer for Weimar located just outside of 00:38:09.52\00:38:15.42 Sacramento in California. 00:38:15.46\00:38:16.79 Yeah, just north of Sacramento up in the foothills. 00:38:16.86\00:38:19.03 OK. Now Weimar has the blessing of being in the offering as well 00:38:19.06\00:38:23.37 as one of the recipients of the overflow that we are praying for 00:38:23.40\00:38:27.67 for tomorrow. So tell us a little bit about what's going 00:38:27.70\00:38:29.90 on. There are lots of things going on at Weimar. 00:38:29.94\00:38:32.01 Well I don't even know where to begin but I'll tell you where I 00:38:32.04\00:38:35.04 really want to begin is something that's really 00:38:35.08\00:38:37.48 happened just in the last year to a year and a half. When I 00:38:37.55\00:38:41.28 started there four years ago we started engaging our NEWSTART 00:38:41.32\00:38:45.32 leadership team and we really realized that people come to us 00:38:45.35\00:38:48.96 with health conditions, but we realize they're fighting a 00:38:48.99\00:38:52.73 spiritual battle. And we created a team that would provide 00:38:52.76\00:38:56.53 spiritual support for those patients so that they could 00:38:56.56\00:39:00.37 actually be more successful in their health choices. And I have 00:39:00.40\00:39:03.34 to tell you, Debbie, you know the numbers already but we're 00:39:03.37\00:39:06.27 on track for this year, and mind you, these people are paying to 00:39:06.31\00:39:10.78 allow us to evangelize them, we're on track to baptize over 00:39:10.81\00:39:15.22 65 people this year out of NEWSTART. And that's just 00:39:15.25\00:39:20.59 NEWSTART. We just started a depression recovery and anxiety 00:39:20.62\00:39:22.66 program, a residential program, today and that program is 00:39:22.69\00:39:26.33 probably going to get us up to 100. 00:39:26.36\00:39:28.26 It probably baptizes about another 35. 00:39:28.30\00:39:31.07 We have baptized probably more out of depression recovery but 00:39:31.10\00:39:34.17 there are fewer sessions than we have in NEWSTART. So over 00:39:34.24\00:39:38.67 a hundred patients are getting baptized now every year and 00:39:38.71\00:39:42.14 we're not paying for the evangelism. They're paying us 00:39:42.18\00:39:45.51 to allow us to evangelize them. What kind of paradigm is that? 00:39:45.58\00:39:49.62 That is a great program and that's exciting that we're doing 00:39:49.65\00:39:53.69 and God is really blessing it. 00:39:53.76\00:39:55.96 Now there's something else that's really close to my heart 00:39:55.99\00:39:58.99 that's happening as far as the clinic. 00:39:59.03\00:40:01.56 Yeah absolutely. Again about three years ago we had the 00:40:01.60\00:40:05.50 vision of creating a clinic on campus. We had a clinic building 00:40:05.53\00:40:09.80 but the clinic was basically seeing our NEWSTART guests and 00:40:09.84\00:40:13.54 maybe a few clinic people, five a week or something like that. 00:40:13.58\00:40:17.25 But we had an idea. Because we're in a demographic in 00:40:17.31\00:40:19.88 California where there are a lot of Medi-Cal, which is Medicaid, 00:40:19.91\00:40:23.22 Medi-Cal patients and they weren't getting the adequate 00:40:23.25\00:40:27.02 care. So we had the plan of recruiting young, aggressive, 00:40:27.06\00:40:31.49 like-minded physicians and creating a rural health clinic 00:40:31.53\00:40:35.56 which is a federal designation so that you can treat those 00:40:35.60\00:40:39.03 Medi-Cal patients and actually get reimbursed your cost rather 00:40:39.07\00:40:43.14 than their regressive tax of $30 per contact visit or something 00:40:43.20\00:40:47.58 like that. The team successfully got rural health clinic status 00:40:47.61\00:40:52.38 and shortly after that, we also remodeled a large part of the 00:40:52.41\00:40:56.82 administration building and put in actually a six-room dental 00:40:56.85\00:41:00.46 clinic, which also qualifies under rural health clinic and 00:41:00.49\00:41:05.16 and I've told you the numbers already, but we're now seeing 00:41:05.19\00:41:09.83 1000 patients a month. 00:41:09.86\00:41:11.20 That's incredible. Now tell us about the nursing program. 00:41:11.23\00:41:14.64 The nursing program is really amazing. When I started there 00:41:14.67\00:41:18.21 four years ago I really thought that the nursing program was a 00:41:18.24\00:41:21.18 total waste of money. I'll just be honest. I was wrong. I've 00:41:21.21\00:41:25.61 been wrong in other things. I was wrong there. We realized it 00:41:25.65\00:41:29.98 was going to take about two million dollars to get the 00:41:30.05\00:41:33.02 nursing program off the ground because the State of California 00:41:33.05\00:41:36.19 the BRN the Board of Registered Nurses have standards that you 00:41:36.22\00:41:39.73 have to achieve. For example we need a skills lab. We used to 00:41:39.76\00:41:43.00 have mannequins and mannequins are probably a hundred bucks. 00:41:43.03\00:41:46.23 Well the mannequins are not $100 they're $70,000. We needed about 00:41:46.27\00:41:52.94 $400,000 just in our skills lab. We needed hospital beds and 00:41:52.97\00:41:58.51 those are probably $10,000 apiece. Actually Adventist 00:41:58.55\00:42:02.02 Health, I contacted them and I said do you have any hospital 00:42:02.05\00:42:05.79 beds. He called me like the next day and he says Randy we have 00:42:05.82\00:42:09.49 eight of them. And I said, I only need six. And he said, no 00:42:09.52\00:42:13.09 you didn't hear me, I have eight come get them all or don't take 00:42:13.16\00:42:16.40 any. So we got eight hospital beds free from Adventist Health 00:42:16.46\00:42:19.73 but we were applying for accreditation and actually I 00:42:19.77\00:42:23.37 thought it was really an uphill battle. I wasn't sure that it 00:42:23.41\00:42:27.58 was going to happen. And we went down to Irvine, California. 00:42:27.64\00:42:31.85 Elder Wilson's sister, Shirley Anderson, was our head of our 00:42:31.88\00:42:35.28 head of our nursing program at the time. She was there, there 00:42:35.32\00:42:38.45 were three of us and we were at this meeting where they were 00:42:38.49\00:42:42.02 going to decide if we could get approval and the program just 00:42:42.06\00:42:46.19 before us was actually put on probation because their skills 00:42:46.23\00:42:51.10 training was about 30 miles away from the school. Now we had 00:42:51.13\00:42:56.00 places in Loma Linda and Glendale, we had them all over 00:42:56.04\00:42:58.57 the state and I'm thinking they're going to crucify us. 00:42:58.61\00:43:01.11 We got up there and they said what are you going to do about 00:43:01.18\00:43:04.81 the students traveling all those miles. And Dr. Anderson said 00:43:04.85\00:43:08.45 well I was just talking to Dr. Bivens and I think we're 00:43:08.48\00:43:11.49 probably going to go ahead and pay for them, we're going to 00:43:11.52\00:43:14.09 transport them ourselves. And he looked right at me and he goes 00:43:14.16\00:43:16.83 is that right? And I go well you got me on the spot. Yeah that's 00:43:16.86\00:43:19.16 right. We'll do that. And he goes fine. Why didn't that other 00:43:19.19\00:43:21.96 school do that? And they gave us full approval. I went up and 00:43:22.00\00:43:24.77 talked to him afterward and I said we just want to thank you. 00:43:24.80\00:43:27.54 And he said I know you Adventists. He goes I had an 00:43:27.60\00:43:30.37 uncle who was at Oakwood College God had gone before us and we 00:43:30.41\00:43:35.21 just graduated our first cohort of nurses. All but one of them 00:43:35.24\00:43:39.75 have actually taken their NCLEX exam and 100 percent of them 00:43:39.78\00:43:44.25 have passed their examination. So praise God. 00:43:44.29\00:43:47.02 Amen. So you're offering can help to build the infrastructure 00:43:47.06\00:43:51.19 to be able to support all of these ministries that are going 00:43:51.23\00:43:55.36 on at Weimar. Thank you so much. 00:43:55.40\00:43:57.40 Typically people don't like to pay for infrastruction. The 00:43:57.43\00:44:00.74 offering is going to build some staff and student housing. But 00:44:00.77\00:44:03.91 without that infrastructure the baptisms can't occur, the 00:44:03.94\00:44:08.44 graduations can't occur. We can't be sending these 00:44:08.48\00:44:10.48 missionaries into all the world. 00:44:10.55\00:44:11.88 Well thank you very much. 00:44:11.91\00:44:14.22 And thank you ASI for the generous offering. 00:44:14.25\00:44:17.09
