we're going to be looking at.

"Afterward he brought me again

behold, the waters issued out

scripture is actually...

not going to talk about this

simply going to tell you

that this story reveals to us

how the gospel works.

And it is revealed in
this river that Ezekiel sees

flowing out of

Now, before we get
to Ezekiel's river here

I want to just
point out a couple things.

First of all, what
is the purpose of water?
00:12:41.22\00:12:43.29
Absolutely...
water is used to cleanse.
00:12:44.69\00:12:47.66
And so we'll read in the Old
Testament how God speaks about
00:12:47.86\00:12:50.60
using water to purify His people
and to give them new hearts.
00:12:50.80\00:12:54.27
In the New Testament it talks
about Him purifying His church
00:12:54.67\00:12:58.64
with water. So water in
the Bible is a symbol of
00:12:58.84\00:13:02.78
purification and of cleansing.
00:13:02.98\00:13:05.08
And in light of that, I
want to share with you something
00:13:05.98\00:13:08.95
that... that to me
is absolutely amazing.

You see, I believe
that the waters of the Bible

reveal to us a story.
00:13:15.66\00:13:17.36
They reveal to us the
process whereby God will purify

His people ultimately. Amen?

Amen! And so what I
want to do right now...

Again, this is setting
the foundation for the book

of Ezekiel and the river
flowing out of the sanctuary...

but I want to take you back to
the very first bodies of water

mentioned in the Bible, and
those are the waters of Eden.

The waters of Eden. So let's
talk about that very quickly.

The Garden of Eden... If
you and I were to go back...

were able to go back
to the Garden of Eden

and look at the rivers
there and take a trip there...

I know we cannot do
that, but if we were

the rivers of Eden would tell
us the story of creation. Amen?

Amen! It would tell
us the story of how God

created man in perfection

and how He made him in
His image and in His likeness.

However, it would also
tell us the story of how

man fell because he
rejected the word of God.

So those are the rivers of Eden.

They tell us the story of
how man turned away from God.

How he was first made perfect
but turned away from God.

Now, the next major body
of waters found in the Bible

is the waters of Egypt.

It's found in
the book of Exodus.

And it's specifically the Nile.

Now if you and I were
to take a trip to the Nile
00:14:46.01\00:14:48.72
what do you think the Nile
would say to us if the Nile

could speak? The Nile
could tell us history.
00:14:51.45\00:14:54.22
The Nile would point us to
the captivity of the children
00:14:54.42\00:14:58.89
of Israel, yes? And it would
talk about... It would tell us
00:14:59.09\00:15:02.23
about the bondage that
they experienced under Egypt.

So I want you to check this out.

You know, when
man... before sin entered

man was perfect and
made in the image of God.

But when sin entered

man became bondaged

to the flesh. Think with me now.

Rivers of Eden?
Purity... but then man falls.

The Nile? Captivity.

OK... So we're going

The rivers of Eden tell us
about man in his perfection

but then he falls.
The river Nile tells us

the result of the
fall: captivity... bondage.

Working for
pharaoh building his house.

We might say in a
very practical sense

that each one of us
has a Nile experience

where we were under
bondage to pharaoh, yes?

And we were building his things;
we were working for pharaoh.

We were slaving for pharaoh.

Yes. Now... so
that's the river Nile.

But the next major body
of water found in the Bible

is guess what? It's the Red Sea.

Now... the Red Sea. All

The Red Sea. Let me
tell you about the Red Sea.

You see, the Red Sea
would tell us the story of a man

by the name of Moses
who comes into Egypt because

he's going to deliver his
people. Yes! Very interesting.

As Moses comes... You
know, Moses as he's born he's

drawn out of water. He goes into
the wilderness for forty years

and then he returns
to deliver his people.

And what he tells them to
do just as they're about to be

delivered is he says:
"Look, I want you to take a lamb

and sacrifice that lamb. "

And that lamb being sacrificed
is the... was the event

that led the children of
Israel out of captivity -

leads them to the Red Sea.

it's a red sea... red... red!

So that Red Sea... what happens?

They cross over the Red Sea
and they escape their enemies.

a Red Sea experience. "

Yes! The sacrifice of
Christ allows us to be set free.

Now I want to share this
with you on another level

because listen: these
first 3 bodies of water

explain to us the entire
history of the Old Testament.

Man created in perfection;
man in bondage to sin;

and then the Messiah
coming to deliver His people

from their sins. We
might say that the Red Sea
00:18:20.06\00:18:24.67
symbolically points us
to the 70-week prophecy

where Christ comes to do
what? Deliver His people!

In reality, what was
type at the Red Sea -

the lamb being
slain - becomes reality

in the 70-week prophecy.

Now, the next body of
water found in the Bible

is the Jordan. Do you
remember what happened

at the Jordan? At the
Jordan the children of Israel

cross over. See, at the
Red Sea they were running from

their enemies. They
were running fearful.

But at the Jordan they
cross over ready to conquer.

They cross over as conquerors.

Yeah. Do you realize that when
you give your life to Christ

running from your enemies.

You're running from a cigarette.

these things and a past life.

there's a second baptism.

He calls us to go forward
