Welcome to 3ABN's Spring Camp Meeting: 00:00:51.21\00:00:53.78 Live from the 3ABN Worship Center. 00:00:57.15\00:00:59.59 Now it begins. We want you to hold onto your seats 00:01:02.02\00:01:05.06 as we are going to hear the Word preached with conviction 00:01:05.26\00:01:08.50 and with power. Welcome to hour number two 00:01:08.70\00:01:11.80 of this opening night of our 3ABN Spring Camp Meeting: 00:01:12.00\00:01:16.20 Calvary, Christ, and the Sanctuary. 00:01:16.40\00:01:18.91 And our speaker for this particular hour 00:01:19.11\00:01:22.28 is a great friend of this ministry and just a great 00:01:22.48\00:01:25.41 Christian man. He stands in a long line of speaker/directors 00:01:25.61\00:01:29.98 for It Is Written... back to George Vandeman 00:01:30.19\00:01:33.36 and then Mark Finley for many years and then Shawn Boonstra. 00:01:33.56\00:01:35.99 And now Pastor John Bradshaw. 00:01:36.39\00:01:38.96 What a mighty man of God 00:01:39.16\00:01:40.90 and may I add a real neat guy. 00:01:41.06\00:01:44.93 Just a wonderful person, a wonderful friend. 00:01:45.33\00:01:47.47 We went out to a restaurant some time ago, and we talked 00:01:47.67\00:01:50.54 into the night. And you know, when they're closing 00:01:50.74\00:01:52.41 a restaurant down they put the chairs on top of the tables. 00:01:52.61\00:01:54.84 And we didn't know that they had put the chairs on top of 00:01:55.04\00:01:57.01 the tables and turned the lights out. The cook had left 00:01:57.21\00:01:59.65 and the fellow was just sitting there and we were just talking 00:01:59.85\00:02:01.55 into the night. He's a good talker and a good listener. 00:02:01.75\00:02:04.89 Most of all he is a good Christian 00:02:05.29\00:02:07.16 and a mighty man of the Word. 00:02:07.36\00:02:08.92 He is the husband of one wife. Amen! Father of two children. 00:02:09.12\00:02:13.29 And the speaker/director as I said of It Is Written. 00:02:13.50\00:02:16.56 Has gone around the world lifting up the mighty and 00:02:16.97\00:02:19.30 matchless name of Jesus. He is a student of the Word. 00:02:19.50\00:02:22.44 Most of all he is a child of the Lord... 00:02:22.64\00:02:25.51 a preacher of righteousness. 00:02:25.71\00:02:27.81 And as he talks about the Lamb tonight we are so thankful 00:02:28.01\00:02:31.81 that John Bradshaw could break from his very busy schedule 00:02:32.01\00:02:35.85 to be part of this Camp Meeting weekend. 00:02:36.05\00:02:39.32 Our music is going to come from Dr. Yvonne Lewis. 00:02:39.82\00:02:43.12 She's going to be singing Lamb of God. 00:02:43.32\00:02:45.16 And again, someone I've known for 30+ years. 00:02:45.36\00:02:49.63 We were children together - Amen - and has always 00:02:49.83\00:02:54.10 dedicated her considerable talents to the Lord. 00:02:54.30\00:02:56.37 She is, of course, the general manager of 3ABN's Dare to Dream 00:02:56.57\00:03:00.08 Network. Working hard doing a fabulous job. 00:03:00.28\00:03:02.71 I'm going to ask you to pray with me just now 00:03:03.01\00:03:04.55 then we'll invite Yvonne out. After she shall have sung 00:03:04.75\00:03:08.22 the next voice you will be hearing will be that of our 00:03:08.42\00:03:10.52 friend, a preacher of righteous- ness, Pastor John Bradshaw. 00:03:10.72\00:03:14.59 Father God, how we praise You this night. 00:03:14.89\00:03:17.89 How we love You and we thank you, Father, for 00:03:18.29\00:03:20.60 the sacrifice that Christ made in our behalf. 00:03:20.80\00:03:24.77 We thank you for the sanctuary, 00:03:25.17\00:03:27.30 for the benefits of that sacrifice that are ministered 00:03:27.50\00:03:30.61 to us each and every day. 00:03:30.81\00:03:32.64 Father, just now we ask for the unction of Your Holy Spirit 00:03:32.84\00:03:37.01 to touch the mind and lips of him who has been called 00:03:37.21\00:03:40.98 to lift up the name of Jesus. 00:03:41.18\00:03:43.02 Be with Yvonne as she sings. 00:03:43.45\00:03:45.39 May we see Jesus; may we take another step 00:03:45.59\00:03:49.46 on that road that leads to glory. 00:03:49.66\00:03:51.73 We love you, Lord. We praise You and we thank you 00:03:51.93\00:03:54.73 for the power of Your Word. 00:03:54.93\00:03:56.70 In Jesus' name, Amen. 00:03:56.90\00:03:59.60 Your only Son, 00:04:21.32\00:04:25.26 no sin to hide 00:04:25.46\00:04:28.83 But You have sent 00:04:29.03\00:04:33.17 Him from Your side 00:04:33.40\00:04:36.44 To walk upon 00:04:36.81\00:04:39.94 this guilty sod 00:04:40.14\00:04:43.91 And to become 00:04:44.31\00:04:46.82 the Lamb of God. 00:04:47.02\00:04:52.32 Your gift of love, 00:04:55.16\00:04:58.89 they crucified 00:04:59.09\00:05:02.66 They laughed and scorned 00:05:02.86\00:05:06.84 Him as He died 00:05:07.04\00:05:10.51 The humble King 00:05:10.71\00:05:14.08 they named a fraud 00:05:14.28\00:05:17.88 And sacrificed 00:05:18.18\00:05:20.75 the Lamb of God. 00:05:20.95\00:05:25.35 Oh, Lamb of God, 00:05:25.55\00:05:28.96 sweet Lamb of God 00:05:29.16\00:05:32.59 I love the holy 00:05:32.99\00:05:37.07 Lamb of God 00:05:37.27\00:05:40.44 Oh, wash me in 00:05:40.64\00:05:43.77 Your precious blood 00:05:43.97\00:05:47.78 My Jesus Christ, 00:05:47.98\00:05:50.71 the Lamb of God. 00:05:50.91\00:05:55.78 I was so lost, 00:05:59.82\00:06:02.86 I should have died 00:06:03.06\00:06:06.66 But You have brought me 00:06:06.86\00:06:11.03 to Your side 00:06:11.23\00:06:13.94 To be led 00:06:14.14\00:06:17.61 by Your staff and rod 00:06:17.77\00:06:21.28 And to be called 00:06:21.48\00:06:24.51 a lamb of God. 00:06:24.71\00:06:28.85 Oh, Lamb of God, 00:06:29.05\00:06:32.59 sweet Lamb of God 00:06:32.79\00:06:36.49 I love the holy 00:06:36.73\00:06:40.93 Lamb of God 00:06:41.10\00:06:44.13 Oh, wash me in 00:06:44.33\00:06:47.34 Your precious blood 00:06:47.54\00:06:51.37 My Jesus Christ, 00:06:51.57\00:06:54.48 the Lamb of God. 00:06:54.68\00:06:58.71 Oh, wash me in 00:06:58.91\00:07:02.48 Your precious blood 00:07:02.68\00:07:08.26 My Jesus Christ, 00:07:08.46\00:07:11.49 the Lamb of 00:07:11.69\00:07:16.30 God. 00:07:17.20\00:07:23.17 Amen! 00:07:32.18\00:07:33.92 Well we must say amen and thank you. 00:07:36.62\00:07:38.75 Amen - amen - and thank you. 00:07:38.95\00:07:41.39 Good evening everyone. Good evening. 00:07:41.59\00:07:43.19 What a blessing it is for me just personally 00:07:43.43\00:07:45.73 to be here with my friends at 3ABN. 00:07:45.93\00:07:47.50 I'm thrilled to be here. 00:07:47.60\00:07:49.03 I love Camp Meeting. That's where God's people get together 00:07:49.43\00:07:52.37 expecting to be blessed. Is that right? 00:07:52.57\00:07:54.50 Then so I imagine, therefore, if we all have an angel that 00:07:54.80\00:07:58.24 goes with us - maybe more in some cases, I don't know - 00:07:58.44\00:08:01.81 that there's a great gathering of angels here. 00:08:02.01\00:08:04.45 And if God's Spirit attends you, 00:08:04.85\00:08:06.48 then that means we must have a great gathering of God's Spirit 00:08:06.68\00:08:08.78 here. Amen! This is a powerful place to be! 00:08:08.98\00:08:11.42 Camp Meeting is a wonderful time! 00:08:11.62\00:08:13.59 And I am grateful for the opportunity to be here. 00:08:13.79\00:08:16.52 And I'm thankful for beautiful music. 00:08:16.96\00:08:18.93 And I'm thankful we serve a wonderful Savior. Amen! 00:08:19.33\00:08:22.73 I'm thankful for the Bible which I still believe is the 00:08:22.93\00:08:24.97 Word of God. Amen! And I am profoundly convinced 00:08:25.17\00:08:27.74 that Jesus is coming back soon. Do you believe that? 00:08:27.94\00:08:30.41 Do you believe that? Amen! I believe that; I believe that. 00:08:30.61\00:08:34.41 And even if He wasn't... 00:08:34.61\00:08:36.14 Now I'm not hedging my bets, but even if He wasn't 00:08:36.34\00:08:39.75 we would still serve Him. We would still be faithful. 00:08:39.95\00:08:44.52 The hope of eternity would still burn in our hearts. 00:08:45.52\00:08:48.66 That's even if He wasn't. 00:08:49.06\00:08:50.73 But He is - Amen! - and we are glad about that! 00:08:50.93\00:08:54.30 He is. His coming is nearer than when we first believed. 00:08:54.50\00:08:57.67 And I'm thrilled because tonight we have the privilege of 00:08:58.07\00:09:02.17 gathering around the Bible 00:09:02.37\00:09:04.24 and opening up the Bible. 00:09:04.37\00:09:06.41 I believe... I have this on good authority... 00:09:06.61\00:09:10.01 that the Word of God is quick and powerful 00:09:10.51\00:09:16.18 and sharper than any two-edged sword. 00:09:16.58\00:09:19.99 There's power in the Word of God. There just is. 00:09:20.19\00:09:23.59 There's power in the Word of God to raise the dead. 00:09:23.99\00:09:26.73 There's power to comfort the afflicted. 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.66 There's power to give us hope. 00:09:30.07\00:09:31.90 So tonight we ought to plan on being blessed, what do you say? 00:09:32.30\00:09:36.37 Amen! All right. Tonight we'll talk about the Lamb of God. 00:09:36.57\00:09:40.38 We're discussing the sanctuary so we'll discuss this very 00:09:40.78\00:09:43.45 important subject. Let's begin by praying together. 00:09:43.65\00:09:46.92 Our Father in heaven, we thank You that we can 00:09:47.78\00:09:49.78 come to You tonight in the name of Jesus. 00:09:49.98\00:09:52.52 We are grateful. 00:09:53.66\00:09:55.39 David said long ago: 00:09:55.99\00:09:58.63 "What is man that Thou art mindful of him? 00:09:58.83\00:10:01.56 Or the son of man that You visit him? " 00:10:01.76\00:10:03.63 What are we? And yet 00:10:03.83\00:10:07.64 in spite of our "littleness" 00:10:08.04\00:10:10.97 we are assured that "God so loved the world 00:10:11.37\00:10:16.11 that He gave His only begotten Son. " 00:10:16.31\00:10:20.22 So we are encouraged tonight 00:10:20.42\00:10:23.12 in spite of our weakness, 00:10:23.55\00:10:25.55 in spite of our too-frequent failings, 00:10:25.95\00:10:29.06 we are encouraged that Your eyes are on us 00:10:29.26\00:10:33.36 and Your heart is towards us. 00:10:33.56\00:10:35.43 Tonight we come to discuss a subject dear to Your heart, 00:10:36.46\00:10:39.03 and I pray that You would give us heavenly eye salve 00:10:39.23\00:10:42.37 that we might see 00:10:42.57\00:10:44.04 and anointing of Your Holy Spirit that we might hear... 00:10:44.41\00:10:47.44 but only what You want us to hear. 00:10:47.64\00:10:50.18 And I pray that You would grant me special grace 00:10:51.01\00:10:53.65 that as I handle the Word of God I would do so 00:10:53.85\00:10:55.62 according to Your will. 00:10:55.82\00:10:57.15 Let my words be filtered through Your Spirit. 00:10:57.25\00:10:59.55 And Lord, if I say the wrong thing 00:11:00.89\00:11:02.92 let there be one of those miracles of divine grace 00:11:03.32\00:11:05.83 that would cause people to hear the right thing. 00:11:06.03\00:11:08.26 Bless us now, we ask You, for Your glory. 00:11:09.40\00:11:11.47 In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. 00:11:12.47\00:11:16.50 I had a job once... 00:11:21.28\00:11:23.55 not only once... 00:11:26.55\00:11:28.38 I had a job once working... This was one of my favorite 00:11:30.89\00:11:34.52 jobs I ever had. It was a great job! 00:11:34.72\00:11:37.73 It paid OK. 00:11:38.09\00:11:40.40 I worked with a variety of characters. 00:11:40.80\00:11:45.93 Made some good friends; didn't make any enemies. 00:11:47.27\00:11:50.14 That was a good job. 00:11:51.04\00:11:52.37 I worked at a meat works. 00:11:53.41\00:11:55.41 While I was a university student it was largely responsible 00:11:56.54\00:12:00.72 for my ability to pay my way through school. 00:12:00.92\00:12:03.02 I worked at a meat works. 00:12:03.42\00:12:05.52 I grew up in a blue collar town just four miles 00:12:05.92\00:12:09.36 up the road from this meat works. 00:12:09.56\00:12:10.93 The meat works actually formed the backbone 00:12:11.13\00:12:13.53 of our little town. About 1,500 men - 00:12:13.73\00:12:16.16 almost all were men - worked at this meat works. 00:12:16.36\00:12:19.50 And so the animals would come in the front door whole 00:12:21.67\00:12:26.01 still mooing and baaing. 00:12:26.21\00:12:28.81 And then they would leave back out the front door 00:12:30.41\00:12:33.98 no longer mooing and no longer baaing. 00:12:34.45\00:12:39.12 No longer together as a matter of fact... 00:12:40.32\00:12:42.52 but they did leave and they found themselves 00:12:42.92\00:12:46.46 afterwards escorted to a variety of different locations. 00:12:46.86\00:12:51.33 You know, an almost family member of mine... 00:12:51.73\00:12:55.57 the husband of my sister-in-law... 00:12:55.77\00:12:57.37 began work as a meat inspector. 00:12:57.57\00:13:01.41 And he worked at this very meat works. 00:13:01.81\00:13:04.55 After a while of inspecting the meat at the meat works 00:13:04.95\00:13:08.65 he became a vegetarian. Isn't that interesting? 00:13:08.85\00:13:12.69 Now the meat inspector is supposed to catch the bad stuff 00:13:13.82\00:13:17.53 and say: "No, you can't send this on. 00:13:17.73\00:13:20.20 This animal is too diseased; 00:13:20.40\00:13:21.83 there are too many tumors on this one. " 00:13:22.03\00:13:23.63 He managed to save the consumer from a lot of hazards 00:13:24.03\00:13:29.30 or from many hazards but not from all of the hazards. 00:13:29.50\00:13:32.31 He said: "When I saw what was ending up going through 00:13:32.71\00:13:36.21 and ultimately landing on a plate near mine 00:13:36.41\00:13:38.35 I decided I was better off without it. " 00:13:38.55\00:13:40.58 That meat works did perform some good functions, 00:13:41.75\00:13:44.05 some helpful functions. 00:13:44.25\00:13:45.59 Where I worked in the meat works was one of the 00:13:46.45\00:13:49.49 less glamorous places. 00:13:49.69\00:13:51.79 All of my brothers worked at that same meat works... 00:13:52.19\00:13:53.86 all but one. Three of my four brothers worked 00:13:54.03\00:13:56.36 there at various times. 00:13:56.60\00:13:58.23 My... the third of the five Bradshaw boys 00:13:58.73\00:14:02.97 worked there for some time. And you know, you could work 00:14:03.17\00:14:05.54 on the boning floor. You could work on the... 00:14:05.74\00:14:09.01 on the chain. 00:14:09.21\00:14:11.01 You could work... You know, it's been years. 00:14:11.21\00:14:13.62 I'm forgetting all the various departments. 00:14:13.82\00:14:15.22 But my brother, when he came home for his first day at work, 00:14:15.62\00:14:18.15 smelled so bad I couldn't be near him. 00:14:18.35\00:14:21.49 He told me he worked in the fellmongery. 00:14:21.89\00:14:24.66 Now I don't expect you to know what happens in a fellmongery - 00:14:25.06\00:14:27.00 or maybe somebody here does. 00:14:27.20\00:14:28.60 A fellmongery is that department of the meat works 00:14:28.80\00:14:31.17 that handles the animal skins. 00:14:31.37\00:14:33.50 And so the skins will come - if they are cow skins, 00:14:33.90\00:14:36.97 covered in hair or sheep or lamb skins 00:14:37.17\00:14:39.54 covered in wool - and the intent is that they 00:14:39.74\00:14:42.41 leave without hair and without wool. 00:14:42.61\00:14:44.41 And so you have to apply a lot of pretty powerful chemicals 00:14:44.61\00:14:47.62 and acid formulations to remove all of the wool 00:14:47.82\00:14:50.79 and remove all of the hair. 00:14:50.99\00:14:52.32 And some of that stuff doesn't smell... it just plain stinks! 00:14:52.35\00:14:55.79 So my brother would make his way home from work, and I would flee 00:14:55.99\00:14:58.73 from his presence because he smelled so bad. 00:14:58.93\00:15:00.93 I said: "When I work at that meat works I will make sure 00:15:01.03\00:15:04.63 I never work at the fellmongery 00:15:04.83\00:15:07.04 because it just stinks so bad. " 00:15:07.24\00:15:09.57 I didn't work upstairs on the paint table where my brother had 00:15:17.05\00:15:19.71 worked. I worked downstairs. I had one of the least 00:15:19.91\00:15:23.12 glamorous jobs in the whole meat works. 00:15:23.32\00:15:25.39 The sheep... I didn't deal with cow skins. 00:15:26.19\00:15:29.29 The fellow over there handled them. But where I was 00:15:29.49\00:15:31.59 we were dealing with sheep and lamb pelts. 00:15:31.79\00:15:34.00 And they would... When I got a hold of them 00:15:34.86\00:15:36.50 they were in a tub of some acid formulation. 00:15:36.73\00:15:40.30 If you didn't wear your gloves and you had any little 00:15:40.50\00:15:43.24 pieces of skin missing, you soon felt that keenly. 00:15:43.47\00:15:47.04 And some of the little indentations ended us as big 00:15:47.24\00:15:49.84 indentations as the acid ate away at my fingers. 00:15:50.05\00:15:52.51 But we would lean over into this formula of acid. 00:15:52.71\00:15:57.15 I don't know... I'm guessing it was acid. 00:15:57.35\00:15:58.69 It had to be acid. We'd reach in and we'd grab 00:15:58.82\00:16:00.99 these things with our hands and turn around and drop them 00:16:01.19\00:16:04.53 on a little cart. 00:16:04.73\00:16:06.83 And then we'd get down and when it was full, we'd push the 00:16:07.03\00:16:08.66 cart over to the person grading the pelts. It was backbreaking! 00:16:08.86\00:16:12.57 And it stunk! And I was longing for one of those 00:16:12.77\00:16:16.20 cushy jobs further up there where you got paid the big 00:16:16.40\00:16:18.91 bucks. But instead I was down here doing the grunt work. 00:16:19.11\00:16:22.48 A job designed to enrich chiropractors. 00:16:22.88\00:16:28.02 That's really what the job was... and little more. 00:16:28.22\00:16:31.95 But then I got a promotion. 00:16:32.15\00:16:34.09 When Tom Raumati, my boss, came over and said: 00:16:34.29\00:16:37.26 "We're moving you, boy. " 00:16:37.46\00:16:38.86 I was so glad. I knew I was going to go up to one of these 00:16:39.06\00:16:41.90 highly-paid, low-effort jobs. 00:16:42.10\00:16:44.87 But instead of moving me across the meat works 00:16:45.07\00:16:47.20 he moved me across the fellmongery. 00:16:47.40\00:16:49.20 So I stayed in that place that smelled like death. 00:16:49.40\00:16:51.87 He moved me over to a very responsible job: 00:16:52.07\00:16:54.51 a job where I graded the pelts. 00:16:54.71\00:16:57.11 And they'd bring me the lamb skins or the sheep skins - 00:16:57.31\00:16:59.45 they were the big ones - and I'd look them over... 00:16:59.65\00:17:01.75 you had to do it quickly - for any signs of imperfection. 00:17:01.95\00:17:04.75 And we'd put the bad ones on the "C" pile 00:17:05.15\00:17:07.69 and the pretty good ones on the "B" pile 00:17:07.86\00:17:09.86 and the really good ones on the "A" pile. 00:17:10.06\00:17:12.19 And so we just got to stand and grade pelts, 00:17:12.39\00:17:14.63 tossing them this way and that. And if you were faster than 00:17:14.83\00:17:16.97 the guys fishing them out of the acid 00:17:17.17\00:17:18.60 you had a little down time... which suited my friend 00:17:18.80\00:17:21.10 the triathlete. It was a meat works, but we 00:17:21.30\00:17:23.44 had some luminaries there. This fellow was a triathlete. 00:17:23.64\00:17:26.31 And he had a happy knack of just disappearing every so often. 00:17:26.61\00:17:29.91 I knew where he slept 00:17:30.35\00:17:32.25 and I'd go and wake him up and drag him back onto the job. 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.92 And the guy working next to me was a swimmer... 00:17:35.32\00:17:37.32 a very good swimmer who swam internationally. 00:17:37.52\00:17:39.79 They were the luminaries. Other than that, just a rough 00:17:40.49\00:17:43.56 assortment of various... I don't know... characters. 00:17:43.76\00:17:49.00 We had one fellow. We called him... His name was Hector. 00:17:49.20\00:17:51.67 We called him Hectorpottamus. 00:17:52.07\00:17:53.60 Biggest human being I had ever met. 00:17:55.50\00:17:59.61 A giant of a man. A giant! 00:18:00.11\00:18:03.24 1,500 men... there were all kinds. 00:18:03.58\00:18:05.91 And there I was: grading with the international swimmer 00:18:06.31\00:18:09.85 and with the triathlete when he wasn't asleep. 00:18:10.05\00:18:12.89 And I had a lot of time to reflect on the fate 00:18:14.32\00:18:17.93 of the sheep and the lambs 00:18:18.13\00:18:20.96 as I tossed their skins this way and that way 00:18:21.16\00:18:24.47 knowing that just a day or so before they had been 00:18:24.67\00:18:28.64 very much connected to the rest of themselves. 00:18:28.84\00:18:32.77 I spent many many hours pondering the fate 00:18:33.78\00:18:37.45 of lambs. 00:18:37.78\00:18:40.25 Now on Sundays I'd go to my local church. 00:18:40.65\00:18:43.52 And in the church I'd look up above the altar and see 00:18:43.72\00:18:46.59 Jesus hanging on a cross. There was a large crucifix 00:18:46.79\00:18:49.06 above the altar. 00:18:49.29\00:18:50.66 Now even though today in churches I have pastored 00:18:50.86\00:18:53.70 we don't major in crucifixes. 00:18:53.90\00:18:55.30 Back then, and God will use almost anything He can 00:18:55.50\00:18:58.30 to speak to a person, 00:18:58.50\00:18:59.83 that crucifix spoke to me. 00:18:59.87\00:19:01.34 Not literally, but it spoke to me. And I would look up there 00:19:01.54\00:19:03.94 and consider the fact that Jesus hung on a cross 00:19:04.14\00:19:07.61 once and died for me. 00:19:07.81\00:19:09.51 And He was described in various ways, but in the mass 00:19:10.01\00:19:14.25 He was described as "The Lamb of God. " 00:19:14.38\00:19:17.05 And we would say a prayer that said: 00:19:17.25\00:19:18.92 "Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, 00:19:19.12\00:19:22.16 have mercy on us. " And then that line would be repeated. 00:19:22.46\00:19:25.53 "Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, 00:19:25.73\00:19:27.86 have mercy on us. " And then we would say: 00:19:28.03\00:19:30.37 "Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, 00:19:30.57\00:19:32.80 grant us peace. " 00:19:33.20\00:19:35.20 Lamb of God. I thought about that. 00:19:35.40\00:19:38.81 Jesus... the Lamb. I handled lamb skins 00:19:39.21\00:19:44.58 for a living. We had pet lambs in our back yard 00:19:44.78\00:19:48.85 as we were growing up. 00:19:49.05\00:19:50.79 I might have told you this story before, so I'll keep it short. 00:19:50.99\00:19:53.96 I hadn't planned on telling about the pet lamb. 00:19:54.16\00:19:56.02 We had a pet lamb, a little white... In fact, 00:19:56.42\00:19:58.06 when we got it it was kind of yellow 00:19:58.26\00:19:59.59 so we named him Sweet Corn. 00:19:59.76\00:20:01.83 Sweet Corn... he was yellow. 00:20:02.03\00:20:03.63 We were kids. What are you going to call a lamb? 00:20:03.83\00:20:05.60 I think my brother named him Sweet Corn. 00:20:05.80\00:20:07.77 To begin with we would feed Sweet Corn out of a bottle 00:20:08.17\00:20:10.81 and he would suck on the end of that bottle just like 00:20:11.01\00:20:13.21 1,000 miles an hour. And then he got too big for a bottle. 00:20:13.44\00:20:15.84 And it was a good thing we had a big back yard... 00:20:16.04\00:20:17.41 he had lots of grass to eat. 00:20:17.51\00:20:18.91 And we'd take him just about anything we could. 00:20:19.11\00:20:20.72 And lambs... they're docile. They're good pets. 00:20:20.92\00:20:23.99 They're nice animals. If you turned up with food, 00:20:24.19\00:20:26.32 Sweet Corn would come a'running. 00:20:26.52\00:20:28.06 All I had to do was call his name and he heard 00:20:28.46\00:20:30.69 "FOOD" and he came running. 00:20:30.89\00:20:32.93 Sweet Corn got big... real big. 00:20:33.36\00:20:35.43 I wondered what we were going to do with a sheep. 00:20:35.63\00:20:37.10 Evidently my dad had it all figured out. 00:20:37.50\00:20:39.20 Came home from school one day... no Sweet Corn. 00:20:41.10\00:20:43.34 "Dad! " "Yes, son. " 00:20:46.24\00:20:48.64 "I'm not seeing Sweet Corn anywhere. 00:20:49.84\00:20:52.11 What happened to Sweet Corn? " 00:20:52.31\00:20:54.28 "Well, son, Sweet Corn was getting a bit big 00:20:54.68\00:20:57.72 so you know I took him out to" - I forget the man's name - 00:20:57.92\00:21:01.12 "took him out to Joe's farm. Took him to Joe and let 00:21:01.32\00:21:04.33 Joe have him. " 00:21:04.49\00:21:05.83 "OK... whatever... he was getting a bit big. " 00:21:06.09\00:21:08.60 But about a week later I went to get something out of the 00:21:09.10\00:21:13.90 freezer. The freezer was full! 00:21:14.20\00:21:20.18 I said: "Mom, where'd we get all that beef? " 00:21:21.64\00:21:25.31 Mom wasn't thinking. She said: "That's not beef, son. 00:21:27.65\00:21:30.95 That's mutton. " I said: "Well where did... " 00:21:31.12\00:21:34.32 You know, you've probably said in the past 00:21:40.10\00:21:42.23 "I could never eat my pet. " 00:21:42.43\00:21:44.43 Yes you could. 00:21:46.77\00:21:48.67 Poor old Sweet Corn. 00:21:51.47\00:21:52.81 With a little mint sauce he tasted just fine. 00:21:53.78\00:21:56.98 I thought about lambs a lot. 00:22:02.95\00:22:05.59 And they would tell us that Jesus was the Lamb. 00:22:07.16\00:22:12.99 Had to have been some Biblical origination to that idea... 00:22:13.40\00:22:17.03 surely there was. Surely there was. 00:22:17.23\00:22:20.20 Let's open up our Bibles together. Can we do that? 00:22:20.40\00:22:22.54 We're going to go to John chapter 8. 00:22:22.94\00:22:26.54 John chapter 8 and we'll pick it up in verse... 00:22:26.74\00:22:31.78 hmm... 51... just because we can. 00:22:31.98\00:22:34.92 John 8 and verse 51. 00:22:35.12\00:22:37.69 And the Bible says: "Verily, verily... " this is 00:22:37.89\00:22:39.65 Jesus speaking... "I say unto you: if a man keep My saying 00:22:39.85\00:22:43.32 he shall never see death. " Now the Jews were apoplectic. 00:22:43.53\00:22:48.80 How could this man say this thing? 00:22:49.00\00:22:51.97 "The Jews said to Him: 'Now we know 00:22:52.17\00:22:55.84 that You have a devil. ' " Isn't that just the most 00:22:56.04\00:22:58.71 remarkable thing? This is the Son of God! 00:22:58.91\00:23:01.74 And they're saying: "We are convinced now 00:23:01.94\00:23:03.85 that You are demon possessed. " It's Jesus they are speaking to. 00:23:04.05\00:23:07.35 "Abraham is dead and the prophets 00:23:07.55\00:23:11.02 and You say: 'If a man keep My saying 00:23:11.22\00:23:13.29 He shall never taste of death. ' 00:23:13.59\00:23:15.76 Art Thou greater than our father Abraham which is dead? 00:23:15.96\00:23:20.33 And the prophets are dead. 00:23:20.53\00:23:23.47 Whom makest Thou Thyself? " 00:23:23.67\00:23:27.50 There's a good question. In fact, I'll jump to verse 56. 00:23:27.70\00:23:32.04 Jesus answers and says: "Your father Abraham rejoiced 00:23:32.24\00:23:36.91 to see My day. And he saw it and was glad. " 00:23:37.11\00:23:41.98 Now if you ask a scholar what this really means 00:23:42.18\00:23:44.39 you know a scholar is going to give you a scholarly answer. 00:23:44.59\00:23:46.72 And scholarly answers are very helpful because they 00:23:46.92\00:23:48.86 keep the rest of us who don't claim to be scholars 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.19 kind of between the scylla of presumption 00:23:51.39\00:23:56.06 and the charybdis of ignorance. 00:23:56.26\00:23:58.57 They keep us kind of, hopefully, about where we ought to be. 00:23:58.77\00:24:02.90 But a scholar would dance around this 00:24:03.10\00:24:04.71 or should I say - let me say this kindly - 00:24:04.91\00:24:06.24 I mean to be kind and appropriate - 00:24:06.44\00:24:07.81 a scholar will give maybe a broad answer because 00:24:08.01\00:24:10.28 it's not always good to be too narrow. 00:24:10.48\00:24:11.98 Abraham saw Jesus' day by faith. 00:24:12.38\00:24:15.62 Abraham saw Jesus' day by 00:24:15.82\00:24:20.06 what now? The prophecies. You get a variety of answers. 00:24:20.36\00:24:24.03 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day 00:24:24.63\00:24:27.76 and he saw it and was glad. " 00:24:27.96\00:24:29.80 "Then said the Jews to Him: 'You are not yet 50 years old 00:24:30.03\00:24:33.84 and hast Thou seen Abraham? ' " 00:24:34.04\00:24:36.67 Jesus said to them in verse 58: 00:24:36.97\00:24:39.34 "Verily verily I say unto you 00:24:39.54\00:24:42.08 before Abraham was... " What? "I AM. " 00:24:42.28\00:24:45.55 "They took up stones to cast at Him, but He hid Himself... 00:24:45.75\00:24:47.48 went out of the temple going out through the midst 00:24:47.65\00:24:49.22 of them and so passed by. " 00:24:49.42\00:24:52.72 Abraham saw Jesus' day and he was glad. 00:24:52.92\00:24:57.33 Jesus said: "Before Abraham was, I AM. " 00:24:57.53\00:25:00.46 He claimed the prerogatives of God. 00:25:00.66\00:25:02.83 He made Himself... claimed to be equal with God. 00:25:03.03\00:25:05.77 In fact, He claims to be God. 00:25:05.97\00:25:07.94 That's how the Jews understood it. They were crazy mad! 00:25:08.14\00:25:11.41 They decided they would kill Him, and Jesus had to take 00:25:11.61\00:25:13.68 evasive action. Let's to back to when Abraham really saw Jesus' 00:25:13.88\00:25:17.25 day. Rewind now; go back to Genesis and chapter 22. 00:25:17.45\00:25:20.82 Genesis chapter 22. It's one of the most remarkable... 00:25:20.95\00:25:24.29 it's one of the most heart- rending stories in the Bible. 00:25:24.45\00:25:27.46 It's a story about a father and a son 00:25:27.82\00:25:29.69 and at the same time... at the same time 00:25:29.89\00:25:32.16 it's the story about a Father and a Son. 00:25:32.36\00:25:35.20 You know, I have a son. This month he will turn 16 years old. 00:25:35.40\00:25:38.47 They told me when he was born 00:25:38.67\00:25:40.90 "Time will pass by like that! " 00:25:41.07\00:25:42.77 Clearly they didn't understand. 00:25:43.17\00:25:46.84 It has passed by much faster than that! 00:25:47.04\00:25:50.05 Sixteen! My goodness. He was born; I blinked; 00:25:50.25\00:25:53.68 he's about to turn 16. I'm afraid to blink again. 00:25:53.88\00:25:56.25 This is a story about a father and a son. 00:25:58.29\00:26:00.19 If you have a son... even a daughter... 00:26:00.39\00:26:02.52 then this story will reach you. It will speak to your heart. 00:26:02.72\00:26:06.73 Genesis chapter 22 and verse 1: 00:26:06.93\00:26:08.83 "It came to pass after these things that God did tempt 00:26:09.23\00:26:11.60 Abraham. " God tempts no man. He tested Abraham. 00:26:11.80\00:26:14.27 And He said to him: 'Abraham! ' 00:26:14.47\00:26:16.34 Abraham said: 'Behold, here am I. ' 00:26:16.54\00:26:19.31 God said: 'Take now thy son, 00:26:19.51\00:26:22.78 thine only son Isaac. ' " 00:26:23.18\00:26:27.42 Now that was God just rubbing it in. 00:26:27.62\00:26:31.42 "Take your son. " "My son? " 00:26:31.72\00:26:36.32 "Your ONLY son. " By now this man was old. 00:26:36.73\00:26:42.20 By now this man didn't have much to his name. 00:26:42.80\00:26:46.10 No claim to fame. He hadn't written a book. 00:26:46.30\00:26:49.67 He hadn't discovered a lost civilization. 00:26:50.07\00:26:53.21 This man had not invented anything 00:26:53.64\00:26:55.98 by which society was bettered. 00:26:56.18\00:26:58.65 All he could say about himself was: 00:26:58.85\00:27:01.98 "Sarah gave me a son... my only son, Isaac. " 00:27:02.18\00:27:07.69 God says: "Take now your son. " 00:27:07.86\00:27:10.06 "My son? " "Yes, your ONLY son, Isaac, 00:27:10.26\00:27:13.76 whom you love and get thee into the land of Moriah 00:27:13.96\00:27:17.07 and... " And Abraham didn't know what was coming 00:27:17.27\00:27:22.10 but he felt it when it hit him right between the eyes... 00:27:22.30\00:27:25.74 "and offer him there for a burnt offering 00:27:26.14\00:27:28.54 upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. " 00:27:28.74\00:27:31.51 Offer him for a burnt offering. 00:27:32.11\00:27:35.25 Now friends, if you would take a moment to read 00:27:36.45\00:27:39.25 about the way the burnt offering was prepared. 00:27:39.45\00:27:41.52 This was a grizzly business. 00:27:41.72\00:27:44.76 This was not what a father had in mind for his son. 00:27:44.96\00:27:49.76 But Abraham clearly was willing to consent 00:27:50.97\00:27:54.60 to God's will and acquiesce to God's desires. 00:27:55.00\00:27:58.44 "Abraham rose up early in the morning. " 00:27:59.04\00:28:02.18 Now stop there with me. 00:28:02.38\00:28:04.11 God says to you: "I'm calling you to the mission field" 00:28:04.91\00:28:08.58 and there is a crisis. God says to you: 00:28:08.78\00:28:12.25 "Put $5 more in the offering plate. " 00:28:12.45\00:28:16.16 And you are saying: "God, am I hearing You right? " 00:28:16.36\00:28:20.63 God seeks to lead you across town 00:28:22.56\00:28:25.47 and it can shake your life and upend your world. 00:28:25.67\00:28:30.14 When God calls you to follow, best to follow... 00:28:30.34\00:28:34.31 whether it's something small or something great. 00:28:34.51\00:28:37.08 God here called Abraham and it was something GREAT. 00:28:37.28\00:28:40.85 Something vast! "Abraham, I'm asking you to give your son. " 00:28:41.05\00:28:44.72 And Abraham... what did he do? He got up in the morning. 00:28:45.12\00:28:47.66 "Saddled his ass. Took two of his young men with him 00:28:47.86\00:28:50.36 and Isaac his son. 00:28:50.56\00:28:52.56 He cut the wood for the burnt offering; rose up 00:28:52.76\00:28:54.83 and went to the place which God had told him. 00:28:55.00\00:28:57.07 Then on the third day he lifted up his eyes 00:28:57.27\00:28:58.97 and he saw the place afar off. " 00:28:59.17\00:29:00.70 Imagine traveling for 3 days knowing that when you get 00:29:00.90\00:29:04.14 to where you are going you are going to have to take a knife 00:29:04.34\00:29:07.71 and cut your son's throat. 00:29:07.91\00:29:10.88 Have you ever seen a lamb being killed? 00:29:11.35\00:29:13.95 When we worked at the meat works I was glad I handled the skins. 00:29:14.35\00:29:17.75 'Cause if you were at the front end of the process 00:29:17.95\00:29:19.69 you are drowning almost in a river of blood. 00:29:19.89\00:29:25.49 I remember going with my friend Joey Ryan. 00:29:25.69\00:29:27.66 In fact, Joey's dad was my godfather 00:29:27.86\00:29:29.56 and he died just a couple of days ago at the age of 93. 00:29:29.76\00:29:33.34 Matt Ryan died. God bless him. 00:29:33.54\00:29:35.44 And I went with Joey Ryan to Mr... You know, I can't even 00:29:36.54\00:29:41.11 remember the man's name but I could show you the farm. 00:29:41.31\00:29:43.45 It was on Futta Futta Road. 00:29:43.65\00:29:49.32 It was on Futta Futta Road. 00:29:49.52\00:29:50.89 We could go there, and I went there. I was bored stiff 00:29:51.02\00:29:53.96 to be quite honest. The farmer was just doing farm stuff, 00:29:54.16\00:29:56.06 and Joe couldn't get enough of that and I was ready to go home. 00:29:56.26\00:29:58.29 And I didn't know what was coming. The farmer brought in 00:29:58.49\00:30:01.76 a couple of sheep and Joe said: "Oh, we've gotta watch this. " 00:30:01.96\00:30:04.53 "Watch what, Joe? " And I looked up just in time 00:30:04.73\00:30:07.10 to see Farmer Brown turn back that sheep's neck like that 00:30:07.30\00:30:10.91 and take the knife like this 00:30:11.31\00:30:13.04 and with one deft movement it was all over. 00:30:13.24\00:30:17.98 Blood poured out! 00:30:18.18\00:30:21.12 It poured out. 00:30:21.32\00:30:23.65 And here was Abraham, knowing what was going to take place 00:30:24.05\00:30:26.62 when he took his son three days to the place that 00:30:27.02\00:30:30.39 God showed him. "Abraham said to the young man: 00:30:30.59\00:30:33.86 'Abide here with the ass... ' - now notice what he said - 00:30:34.23\00:30:38.57 'and I and the lad will go yonder and worship... ' 00:30:38.77\00:30:43.04 And do what? Tell me now. 'and come again to you. ' " 00:30:43.24\00:30:47.68 So Abraham went in faith 00:30:47.88\00:30:50.81 believing that God was able to do the miraculous 00:30:51.21\00:30:56.08 after he had done the difficult. He said to the servants: 00:30:56.28\00:31:00.99 "We are going AND we're coming back. " 00:31:01.19\00:31:04.13 And off they went. Still you have gotta believe 00:31:04.53\00:31:07.96 this did not make it easier for Abraham. 00:31:08.13\00:31:11.97 What he said he said in faith. 00:31:12.17\00:31:14.20 You've said a lot of things in faith that never panned out. 00:31:14.40\00:31:16.71 You've said: "I will pray for your relative, believing that 00:31:17.11\00:31:19.74 the great Physician will make her well. " 00:31:19.94\00:31:21.48 And three weeks later you were at a funeral. 00:31:21.68\00:31:24.01 What happened there? You believed one thing. 00:31:24.21\00:31:26.55 You knew God COULD but you couldn't be certain. 00:31:26.78\00:31:30.15 You cannot be certain that God would in every situation. 00:31:30.35\00:31:32.99 Here is where Abraham found himself, except he's dealing 00:31:33.19\00:31:35.52 with his son now, and he's going to slit his throat 00:31:35.72\00:31:38.73 and watch blood pour out of his dead body like a river. 00:31:38.93\00:31:41.96 Off he went. "We are coming back. " 00:31:42.16\00:31:45.00 "Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and he laid it 00:31:45.40\00:31:48.17 upon Isaac his son, and he took the fire in his hand 00:31:48.37\00:31:51.81 and a knife. And they went both of them together. " 00:31:52.01\00:31:56.18 Remember what Jesus said? "Abraham saw My day. " 00:31:56.58\00:32:00.92 "Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and he said: 00:32:01.08\00:32:04.75 'My father... ' and Abraham responded 00:32:04.95\00:32:09.79 'Here am I, my son. ' " 00:32:10.03\00:32:11.96 Isaac was perceptive. He said: "Behold, 00:32:12.16\00:32:16.83 the fire and the wood 00:32:17.03\00:32:20.00 but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? " 00:32:20.40\00:32:23.10 What would you say if you were the father? 00:32:23.51\00:32:27.54 Abraham said the only thing he really could say. 00:32:27.74\00:32:30.31 He said: "My son, God will provide Himself 00:32:30.71\00:32:36.65 a lamb for a burnt offering. " 00:32:36.85\00:32:38.85 "And so they went both of them together. " 00:32:39.05\00:32:41.59 We could read the rest of the story, but you know how it works 00:32:41.79\00:32:43.73 out. It works out well for everybody involved. 00:32:43.93\00:32:46.29 Maybe we'll read a little bit of it. 00:32:46.49\00:32:48.16 I just want to pause and consider this 00:32:48.76\00:32:50.43 because you know this story has a great parallel... 00:32:50.63\00:32:53.13 a great parallel. 00:32:53.37\00:32:54.87 We would say it took great faith for Abraham to go 00:32:55.27\00:32:57.67 and be prepared to offer his son Isaac. Great faith! 00:32:57.87\00:33:00.58 GREAT FAITH! Sure. 00:33:00.78\00:33:02.64 Think about the faith of Isaac. 00:33:03.24\00:33:05.21 Isaac is standing around thinking to himself 00:33:07.22\00:33:09.28 "Now hold on here. I see the wood 00:33:09.48\00:33:13.39 and I reckon you've got some fire here. 00:33:13.79\00:33:16.49 I see a knife in your hand 00:33:16.93\00:33:19.53 or in that scabbard hanging from your belt 00:33:19.73\00:33:23.53 but where's the lamb? " 00:33:24.07\00:33:26.17 And this thing starts to dawn on Isaac. 00:33:26.37\00:33:29.60 God Himself... or "God will provide Himself a Lamb, son. " 00:33:30.01\00:33:35.94 "They came to the place which God had told him of. 00:33:36.14\00:33:38.65 Abraham built an altar there. Laid the wood in order 00:33:38.85\00:33:41.95 and bound Isaac, his son, and laid him on the altar 00:33:42.15\00:33:45.95 upon the wood. " You can imagine that. 00:33:46.15\00:33:47.82 He's tying his hands and he's tying his feet. 00:33:48.02\00:33:50.49 He's tying up his son, and the son is saying: 00:33:50.69\00:33:53.36 "Dad, if you'd just move my hands a little you'd get... 00:33:53.56\00:33:55.66 it'll cinch the rope down better. " 00:33:55.86\00:33:58.33 Now I love my son. I mean, more than I can tell you. 00:33:58.73\00:34:02.34 And I want to believe that my son loves me. 00:34:02.74\00:34:04.97 In fact, I think I can say with some confidence that he does. 00:34:05.37\00:34:07.98 But I can guarantee you 00:34:08.48\00:34:11.18 that if I tried that and I said: "Son, I have some 00:34:12.25\00:34:16.89 wood. Ah, look, we've built an altar. 00:34:17.09\00:34:19.75 I have some rope. I would like to tie your hands together 00:34:19.95\00:34:23.43 before I cut your throat, " 00:34:23.63\00:34:25.56 my son would say: "Yeah? Naw, I don't think so. " 00:34:25.76\00:34:31.33 And he would be out of there like a flash. 00:34:31.53\00:34:34.90 Not because he doesn't love me 00:34:35.40\00:34:38.47 but because he would think I had lost my mind 00:34:38.67\00:34:42.84 and the best thing he could do is run for his life. 00:34:43.24\00:34:45.81 Isaac did no such thing. 00:34:46.88\00:34:49.05 Instead he meekly we would have to assume 00:34:49.25\00:34:53.52 laid down on that altar, 00:34:53.72\00:34:56.46 allowed his father to bind his hands and his feet, 00:34:56.69\00:35:00.96 and watched as his father took a knife 00:35:01.13\00:35:03.77 and was preparing to kill his son. 00:35:03.97\00:35:07.87 The father had great faith. I don't know, but I think 00:35:08.07\00:35:10.91 the son had even greater faith. 00:35:11.04\00:35:12.37 He had to trust his father and trust God. 00:35:12.57\00:35:15.64 And if you've been raised by anybody at all you know 00:35:15.84\00:35:18.58 it's not always easy to trust your father. 00:35:18.78\00:35:20.92 "Abraham, " Jesus said, "saw My day 00:35:22.32\00:35:26.59 and he was glad. " 00:35:26.79\00:35:29.46 This Camp Meeting we are talking about the subject of the 00:35:29.86\00:35:32.23 sanctuary. This is a magnificent subject. 00:35:32.43\00:35:36.30 We learn so much about the love of God, 00:35:36.50\00:35:38.73 God's plan for our lives, and the plan of salvation 00:35:38.93\00:35:41.84 by studying the sanctuary. 00:35:42.04\00:35:44.11 As a matter of fact, in writing the Psalms, the Psalmist wrote 00:35:44.31\00:35:46.74 in Psalm 77 and verse 13: 00:35:46.94\00:35:48.34 "Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary. " 00:35:48.54\00:35:51.95 God's way is there. God's dealings with humankind 00:35:52.15\00:35:55.55 is there. God's love for the world; 00:35:55.75\00:35:57.89 God's plan for the future; the way God deals with sin. 00:35:58.09\00:36:02.59 It's all found there in the subject of the sanctuary. 00:36:02.79\00:36:06.36 And I'll just give you the brief overview, because I'm speaking 00:36:06.76\00:36:09.60 about a specific aspect of the sanctuary tonight. 00:36:09.80\00:36:12.87 You understand what happened? There were Israel wandering in 00:36:13.27\00:36:17.04 the wilderness. And God said: "Let them make Me a sanctuary 00:36:17.24\00:36:20.58 that I may dwell among them. " 00:36:20.78\00:36:22.38 He showed Moses the plans and said: "Build this thing 00:36:22.58\00:36:25.21 according to the plans. " And it was an interesting structure. 00:36:25.41\00:36:28.35 There was silver and gold. Wood, wood plated with gold. 00:36:28.55\00:36:31.52 Linen; animal skins; statues in the Most Holy Place. 00:36:31.72\00:36:37.56 A box. The ark of the covenant was built and put in there. 00:36:37.96\00:36:42.40 Ten Commandments were in there. 00:36:42.90\00:36:44.83 There were - what would we say - there was needlework 00:36:45.03\00:36:49.97 on the curtaining inside the sanctuary depicting various 00:36:50.17\00:36:52.57 things. It was a wonderful structure. 00:36:52.77\00:36:55.48 It was based on, modeled after, patterned after 00:36:55.68\00:36:59.61 the sanctuary that is in heaven right now. 00:36:59.81\00:37:02.35 No earthly structure could match the heavenly structure's 00:37:02.75\00:37:06.42 vastness and glory. That just wouldn't be possible. 00:37:06.62\00:37:09.09 But God showed Moses the plans, and he built that sanctuary 00:37:09.29\00:37:12.79 so that God could dwell there. 00:37:12.99\00:37:15.26 And associated with the sanctuary were the sanctuary 00:37:15.46\00:37:17.80 services. There were many offerings. 00:37:18.00\00:37:19.87 Feast days... a bunch of offerings. 00:37:20.07\00:37:22.47 You know that at the sanctuary they offered lambs. 00:37:22.67\00:37:25.34 They offered goats; they offered oxen. 00:37:25.54\00:37:28.91 They offered birds... birds of various kinds 00:37:29.11\00:37:31.55 as a matter of fact. In one situation 00:37:31.75\00:37:35.35 they even offered a wild... Why is my mind slipping me here? 00:37:35.65\00:37:41.62 A sparrow if I'm not mistaken. Was it a sparrow? 00:37:42.02\00:37:45.23 Some little bird that even the poorest person could afford 00:37:45.43\00:37:48.76 to get. In the sanctuary sometimes the offerings were 00:37:48.96\00:37:52.60 offerings of meat or offerings of flour. 00:37:52.80\00:37:55.04 Various offerings. All the offerings were seasoned 00:37:55.24\00:37:58.31 with salt. Jesus alluded to this. In fact, He spoke 00:37:58.51\00:38:02.54 directly to this: "Every sacrifice shall be salted with 00:38:02.74\00:38:05.51 salt" He said in Mark chapter 9 00:38:05.71\00:38:07.68 signifying that only the righteousness of Christ 00:38:07.88\00:38:11.12 could make a sacrifice truly acceptable in the sight of God. 00:38:11.32\00:38:15.09 The burnt offering was slain for centuries 00:38:15.49\00:38:17.66 each morning and each evening. A variety of animals. 00:38:17.86\00:38:20.23 But when we think of Jesus we don't think of Jesus as 00:38:20.73\00:38:23.57 the sparrow of God or the turtledove of God. 00:38:23.77\00:38:27.24 Even though these offerings virtually always pointed to 00:38:27.64\00:38:31.94 Jesus Christ. Well, in the sanctuary they always did. 00:38:32.14\00:38:34.68 We don't refer to Jesus as the oxen of God 00:38:34.88\00:38:38.71 or the flour - F- L-O-U-R - of God. 00:38:38.91\00:38:41.98 We remember Jesus as the Lamb of God. 00:38:42.18\00:38:45.02 And with good reason... with good reason. 00:38:45.22\00:38:47.26 Jesus is depicted as a lamb frequently through scripture. 00:38:47.66\00:38:51.26 "Behold the Lamb of God" John said in John chapter 1. 00:38:51.46\00:38:55.76 In fact he said it twice in verses 29 and verse 36. 00:38:55.96\00:38:59.03 Abraham was getting ready to slay the lamb. 00:38:59.33\00:39:03.37 Let me say that again. 00:39:03.91\00:39:06.34 Abraham was getting ready to offer his son as a sacrifice. 00:39:06.54\00:39:09.14 He said: "God shall provide Himself a Lamb" 00:39:09.34\00:39:13.75 prefiguring the death of Jesus on the cross 00:39:14.15\00:39:17.82 and prefiguring the sanctuary services where many lambs 00:39:18.02\00:39:21.49 would be offered as a sacrifice for the sins of the people. 00:39:21.69\00:39:24.56 And you know what happened. I need to go back and read this. 00:39:24.76\00:39:27.73 As he was about offer his son Isaac God spoke up. 00:39:27.93\00:39:31.40 The angel of the Lord it says. He said: "Lay not thine hand 00:39:31.60\00:39:34.40 upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him 00:39:34.60\00:39:37.04 for now I know that you fear God seeing you have not withheld 00:39:37.24\00:39:40.08 your son - your only son - from Me. " 00:39:40.28\00:39:42.34 "Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked and behold, behind him 00:39:42.54\00:39:46.15 a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. 00:39:46.35\00:39:49.62 And Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up 00:39:49.82\00:39:53.76 for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. " 00:39:53.96\00:39:57.03 The ram - I'm going to take a little liberty and call 00:39:57.23\00:40:00.20 it a lamb - the lamb died in the place of his son. 00:40:00.40\00:40:04.77 This story is multi-layered and multi-faceted, 00:40:04.97\00:40:07.54 and I'm discovering time is running out on me. 00:40:07.74\00:40:10.17 But here an animal - a ram - 00:40:10.67\00:40:14.84 died as a sacrifice so a human being could go free. 00:40:15.04\00:40:18.98 A sinful human being could go free. 00:40:19.38\00:40:22.15 Ladies and gentlemen, let's understand something. 00:40:22.35\00:40:24.09 Before we think we are something that we are not 00:40:24.29\00:40:26.25 the Word of God says that all of us have sinned and come short 00:40:26.45\00:40:29.12 of the glory of God. All us us... we are sinners. 00:40:29.32\00:40:32.06 The wages of sin is what? 00:40:32.26\00:40:33.80 There is no way out. 00:40:34.00\00:40:36.16 Not one. Not any way out for the sinner 00:40:36.36\00:40:38.50 other than the blood of Jesus. 00:40:38.70\00:40:41.07 Jesus died so that we might live. 00:40:41.27\00:40:44.07 This ought to light us up with gladness and gratitude 00:40:44.27\00:40:49.74 towards God. The Lamb was Jesus! 00:40:49.98\00:40:53.55 The sanctuary services said someone will die in your place. 00:40:53.75\00:40:59.05 Someone else will give His life so that you might live. 00:40:59.45\00:41:03.43 You are a sinner, but you have the easy way out. 00:41:03.63\00:41:07.40 God said: "Bring a lamb down there. " 00:41:07.76\00:41:09.60 When they brought a lamb - and not always did they bring 00:41:09.80\00:41:12.07 a lamb - but when they brought the lamb it was to be 00:41:12.27\00:41:14.37 a perfect lamb. Spotless... without blemish. 00:41:14.57\00:41:17.17 The best lamb they had. 00:41:17.37\00:41:19.84 You know, friends, I've got to keep the layers where they ought 00:41:21.14\00:41:24.85 to be - but let me just share this with you. 00:41:25.05\00:41:26.78 God calls for us to give Him the best that we have. 00:41:28.08\00:41:30.59 Not the leftovers. We ought not tip God. 00:41:31.75\00:41:35.06 Try to cram Him in. Let me share this with you. 00:41:35.26\00:41:38.66 I was at an airport not too terribly long ago. 00:41:38.86\00:41:41.46 I got a phone call, and it was from an area code I didn't 00:41:41.86\00:41:44.97 recognize. And I was this close to security. 00:41:45.17\00:41:48.04 I looked at that area code. I said: "I don't know anyone 00:41:48.24\00:41:50.44 in that area code. I'll just let it go to voicemail. 00:41:50.64\00:41:52.47 I've got to go catch a plane. " 00:41:52.87\00:41:54.74 And time was tight. But some- thing said "answer the phone" 00:41:54.94\00:41:59.01 and so I did. And someone said: "Hello, Mr. John? " 00:41:59.21\00:42:01.15 I said: "Mr. John? This must be a telemarketer. " 00:42:01.35\00:42:03.69 "Yes, how can I help you? " Wasn't a telemarketer. 00:42:03.89\00:42:05.99 The person said: "We have your computer. " 00:42:06.19\00:42:08.56 Well I couldn't imagine who in the world this could be. 00:42:08.96\00:42:12.13 I said: "Who is this? " She was calling from the hotel 00:42:12.33\00:42:14.00 I stayed at the night before. 00:42:14.20\00:42:15.50 I looked down in the bag hanging from my shoulder. 00:42:15.53\00:42:17.33 "Where's my computer? " 00:42:17.73\00:42:19.67 I had left my laptop in the hotel room! 00:42:19.87\00:42:21.74 I'd gone all day without it which I don't know how. Anyhow, 00:42:22.14\00:42:25.91 I said: "I cannot live without that. " 00:42:26.11\00:42:28.51 It would be easier to get along without my brain than without 00:42:28.71\00:42:31.18 my computer. There's more in my computer 00:42:31.38\00:42:34.52 than in my brain. Please don't say Amen... 00:42:34.72\00:42:36.05 but I'm just making a point... making a point. 00:42:36.25\00:42:39.79 I said: "Can you sent it to me? Can you overnight it to me? 00:42:44.86\00:42:47.86 I have to have it! " 00:42:48.03\00:42:49.43 She said: "Well, I can do better than that. 00:42:49.63\00:42:50.97 I can send the shuttle driver over from the hotel to 00:42:51.00\00:42:54.30 the airport right now. " I'm looking at my watch. 00:42:54.50\00:42:56.57 There's not time for that. "How long will that take? " 00:42:56.77\00:42:58.47 "Five minutes. " I knew she was lying but I'm: "OK! " 00:42:58.67\00:43:01.48 "Fine. I'll be outside waiting by door #13 or whatever 00:43:01.88\00:43:06.25 it was. " And I went outside and I was pacing. 00:43:06.45\00:43:09.05 I was walking backwards and forwards 00:43:09.25\00:43:10.72 and I was praying: "Oh Lord, please. I've got a plane 00:43:10.92\00:43:12.92 to catch and the security line is always so long 00:43:13.12\00:43:15.76 and what am I going to do? And it's my laptop 00:43:15.96\00:43:18.06 and I have to have the laptop. " And soon swsss... 00:43:18.26\00:43:20.03 a shuttle pulled up. 00:43:20.23\00:43:22.06 "Man, there's a shuttle. " I ran over. 00:43:22.26\00:43:23.93 He was smiling. He handed me the laptop. 00:43:24.13\00:43:25.53 I said: "Oh, thank you, man! " And then I remembered: 00:43:25.73\00:43:27.67 "Wait, this is America. You're not grateful until you've 00:43:27.87\00:43:30.87 given somebody some money. " 00:43:31.04\00:43:32.37 You can't just say thanks. 00:43:35.34\00:43:36.91 I opened up my wallet and there was a... "Oh, that's a lot 00:43:38.21\00:43:40.32 of money. " I was so grateful I grabbed a fist full of money; 00:43:40.52\00:43:44.15 thrust it into his hand. 00:43:44.32\00:43:45.69 "Thank you, and make sure you give this much to the kind lady 00:43:46.09\00:43:49.76 who called me on the phone and saved my day. " 00:43:49.99\00:43:51.56 And I walked away feeling glad and slightly conflicted 00:43:51.76\00:43:54.03 because it was a BIG tip. 00:43:54.23\00:43:55.86 And I made it to the plane. 00:43:56.06\00:43:59.27 But I was grateful. I don't regret giving that man that tip. 00:44:00.44\00:44:03.17 He went out of his way for me and he bailed me out. 00:44:03.41\00:44:05.91 I was grateful! 00:44:06.88\00:44:08.48 How grateful should we be that Jesus gave His life 00:44:11.41\00:44:17.42 so that we might live? 00:44:17.92\00:44:20.16 You know, in the offices the other day a friend - 00:44:20.56\00:44:23.56 a colleague - shared a testimony from someone 00:44:23.76\00:44:28.20 who had contacted her. We'd been praying for this individual 00:44:28.40\00:44:30.53 at work. And the lady said: "I remember that day when 00:44:30.73\00:44:34.64 they told me I had three weeks to live. " 00:44:34.84\00:44:37.31 Three weeks! How would you feel if you were told you have 00:44:37.51\00:44:41.44 three weeks to live? That's all she had. 00:44:41.64\00:44:44.31 And she said: "Now the test results have come back 00:44:44.51\00:44:47.32 and they show that I am cancer free! 00:44:47.52\00:44:51.19 They say that I will live on! " 00:44:51.39\00:44:53.09 Man! Can you say: "Praise the Lord? " 00:44:53.32\00:44:55.46 How thankful should a person be who had three weeks to live 00:44:55.66\00:44:59.76 and now has been told she has the rest of her life? 00:45:01.13\00:45:03.67 She has little kids! She's got her life back. 00:45:03.87\00:45:07.14 Friend, when Jesus died for us we got our life back! 00:45:07.34\00:45:12.54 No longer were we looking at death and death only. 00:45:12.74\00:45:15.98 But then when we exercise faith in Christ 00:45:16.18\00:45:19.31 we pass from death to life. 00:45:19.51\00:45:21.95 Now tonight I could talk to you about the various offerings 00:45:22.15\00:45:24.22 and the Passover, the peace offering 00:45:24.42\00:45:27.46 and the sin offering and the trespass offering. 00:45:27.66\00:45:30.16 But at the end of the day they boil down to one thing: 00:45:30.36\00:45:33.40 and that one thing isn't a thing... that one thing 00:45:33.60\00:45:35.46 is a person... and that person is Jesus. 00:45:35.66\00:45:37.83 Every time a lamb died, every time a bull died, 00:45:38.23\00:45:41.67 every time a turtledove died down there at the sanctuary 00:45:41.87\00:45:45.14 God was saying again: "Through faith in the sacrifice 00:45:45.34\00:45:49.74 who was to come you need not die 00:45:49.94\00:45:52.65 but you can have life everlasting. " Praise the Lord! 00:45:52.85\00:45:55.52 We have so much to be thankful for ladies and gentlemen. 00:45:55.82\00:45:58.52 And I would like to just impress something on you if I may. 00:45:58.72\00:46:01.36 Our message to the world as an end-time people 00:46:01.76\00:46:07.13 is Jesus. He's our message. 00:46:07.30\00:46:11.17 Now I'm not going soft on the fundamentals, don't get me 00:46:11.57\00:46:13.94 wrong. I'm not going soft on the book of Revelation. 00:46:14.14\00:46:16.74 But I read where somebody with a great deal more wisdom 00:46:16.94\00:46:19.17 than you wrote that the message of the third angel 00:46:19.37\00:46:23.35 is the message of righteousness by faith in verity. 00:46:23.75\00:46:28.05 So what's our message for the world? 00:46:28.25\00:46:29.95 Before you think our message for the world has got anything 00:46:30.19\00:46:32.49 to do with the pope, I've got to straighten you out. 00:46:32.69\00:46:34.59 Our message for the world is Jesus! Amen! 00:46:34.79\00:46:37.23 Before you think that our message for the world is to 00:46:37.69\00:46:40.63 correct all the wrong people in Babylon 00:46:40.83\00:46:43.10 I'm here to tell you that our message for the world 00:46:43.33\00:46:45.60 is Jesus. He is the message. Now... now... now... 00:46:45.80\00:46:49.54 When you get into the details of our message of Jesus 00:46:49.74\00:46:54.94 oh praise the Lord, you discover there's a Judgment Hour message. 00:46:55.14\00:46:58.05 What does that tell you? It tells you that Jesus the Lamb 00:46:58.45\00:47:01.45 is now Jesus the Priest. And He is in heaven 00:47:01.65\00:47:03.45 for ya... Amen! Amen! 00:47:03.65\00:47:06.69 You're going to read: "Worship Him who made heaven and earth 00:47:06.89\00:47:09.26 and the seas and the fountains of waters. " 00:47:09.46\00:47:10.79 You know why God gave us that beautiful day? 00:47:10.86\00:47:13.16 So we could know Jesus more fully, more reflect His 00:47:13.36\00:47:16.16 character. It's not just so we can be right and they can be 00:47:16.36\00:47:18.80 wrong. Our message is Jesus, and all of the particulars - 00:47:19.00\00:47:22.97 all of the beauty of the powerful particulars 00:47:23.17\00:47:27.18 of the end-time message were given us by God 00:47:27.38\00:47:30.55 so that we can point people to Jesus who is the Lamb. 00:47:30.75\00:47:34.42 That's why they were given. We have a wonderful message 00:47:34.62\00:47:37.89 and it's the crux of the sanctuary. 00:47:38.09\00:47:40.89 That sanctuary was beautiful 00:47:41.09\00:47:42.76 but if there was no sacrifice it was worth nothing. 00:47:42.96\00:47:46.23 What would happen if Israel was camped around the sanctuary 00:47:47.66\00:47:52.90 and you can see the beautiful walls around 00:47:53.10\00:47:57.67 and those posts: silver posts and silver sockets. 00:47:57.87\00:48:01.24 And if you were outside you could see the sanctuary 00:48:01.44\00:48:04.28 itself rising up above the curtained walls. 00:48:04.45\00:48:08.35 And were you to go inside you'd see a laver 00:48:08.55\00:48:10.75 and an altar of burnt offerings. 00:48:10.95\00:48:13.02 And then you'd see the two apartments of the sanctuary. 00:48:13.22\00:48:15.79 Were you to go inside you'd say: "Look at this! " 00:48:15.99\00:48:17.73 The table of showbread on the right and the seven-branched 00:48:17.93\00:48:20.53 candlestick on the left and the altar of incense 00:48:20.73\00:48:22.76 in front of me. And were we to go into the Most Holy Place 00:48:22.96\00:48:25.13 you'd say: "It's beautiful in here! " 00:48:25.33\00:48:27.04 And none of that would have been worth two cents 00:48:27.24\00:48:30.97 without a lamb offered as a sacrifice for sin. 00:48:32.54\00:48:38.48 The Lamb means everything to us! 00:48:39.88\00:48:42.35 No Lamb... no nothing. 00:48:42.55\00:48:44.55 No Lamb... no point. No Lamb... no message. 00:48:44.75\00:48:49.22 He is the message, and every- thing we share with the world 00:48:49.42\00:48:53.50 must be in the context of the righteousness of Christ. 00:48:53.70\00:48:58.83 The righteousness of the Lamb slain from the foundation 00:48:59.03\00:49:03.74 of the world. Jesus died for our sins. 00:49:03.94\00:49:07.81 The Lamb... without the Lamb we're nothing. 00:49:08.01\00:49:10.68 John said and I said it before: 00:49:10.88\00:49:12.75 "Behold the Lamb of God 00:49:12.95\00:49:16.35 who takes away the sins of the world. " 00:49:16.55\00:49:18.65 And when John said behold he didn't mean think about 00:49:18.85\00:49:21.32 he meant look upon... look upon. 00:49:21.52\00:49:25.43 Friend, we sing about the Lamb. 00:49:25.63\00:49:27.40 "Worthy, worthy is the Lamb that was slain. " 00:49:27.83\00:49:30.77 And that's right. And there's another song that says: 00:49:30.97\00:49:34.37 "Look upon Jesus, sinless is He. " 00:49:34.57\00:49:37.67 John wrote in the gospels quoting John the Baptist. 00:49:37.87\00:49:41.74 Later on: "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed 00:49:41.94\00:49:46.51 upon us that we should be called the sons of God. " 00:49:46.72\00:49:50.42 Behold. Ours is to look upon Jesus. 00:49:50.62\00:49:54.59 Open up your Bible and look in Jesus' face. 00:49:54.79\00:49:59.33 Open up the Word of God and read about what makes 00:49:59.53\00:50:03.57 the heart of God tick. Open up the Bible 00:50:03.77\00:50:07.24 and focus on the goodness of a Lamb who gave His life 00:50:07.44\00:50:11.74 so that you might live. If we were to go back and consider 00:50:11.94\00:50:15.18 the story of Abraham and Isaac, 00:50:15.38\00:50:17.21 you'd think about the father with his heavy heart 00:50:17.41\00:50:20.28 going to offer his son as a sacrifice. 00:50:20.48\00:50:23.65 It makes me think of the heart of God 00:50:23.85\00:50:26.32 who must have given up Jesus with a deep pain in His heart 00:50:26.52\00:50:30.53 but in faith that He would be reunited with His Son again. 00:50:30.93\00:50:33.86 And then it speaks to the faith of Jesus 00:50:34.23\00:50:37.20 who went to that cross after having prayed to His Father 00:50:37.40\00:50:40.87 "I don't want to do this. Please, if You can, 00:50:41.07\00:50:43.97 let this cup pass from me. " 00:50:44.17\00:50:46.61 But then He said: "Not My will but Thy will be done. " 00:50:46.81\00:50:52.01 Jesus was the Lamb. Isaiah wrote about this Lamb 00:50:52.21\00:50:55.52 in Isaiah chapter 53. 00:50:55.72\00:50:57.75 Interestingly, the word lamb is used in the gospels 00:50:57.95\00:51:00.66 only four times. Luke said: "I send you forth as lambs. " 00:51:00.86\00:51:04.03 Jesus said to Peter: "Feed My lambs. " 00:51:04.39\00:51:06.93 And then it was John the Baptist who spoke of Jesus 00:51:07.13\00:51:10.33 as the Lamb twice in John chapter 1. 00:51:10.53\00:51:13.23 Peter said that we were redeemed with the precious blood of 00:51:13.64\00:51:15.90 Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 00:51:16.10\00:51:19.91 Friends, as you look at the sanctuary, there is a lamb 00:51:20.14\00:51:22.58 being led across the open courtyard 00:51:22.78\00:51:24.71 by a family patriarch 00:51:24.91\00:51:28.38 who is bringing this lamb down to the sanctuary to be 00:51:28.58\00:51:30.99 slain as a sacrifice for the sins of himself and his family. 00:51:31.19\00:51:34.59 And he's leading with... I was at a 4H thing once. 00:51:34.79\00:51:37.73 We were at the county fair when we lived in Walla Walla, 00:51:38.13\00:51:40.46 Washington... or College Place actually, Washington. 00:51:40.66\00:51:43.43 We went to the county fair and we hung around to watch 00:51:43.63\00:51:46.17 the 4-H kids parading their animals and selling 00:51:46.37\00:51:49.00 their animals. Bit of a cruel business as a matter of fact. 00:51:49.20\00:51:51.67 And here the kids were parading their little lambs around. 00:51:52.07\00:51:55.54 And then the bidding started and I'm wondering why the kids 00:51:56.14\00:51:58.71 didn't raise cows 'cause they get a whole lot more 00:51:58.91\00:52:00.65 for the cows. But here they were parading the little lambs 00:52:00.85\00:52:03.39 around. And the winning bid goes to this little girl 00:52:03.59\00:52:06.99 over here who raised Snowy the lamb or the sheep by now. 00:52:07.19\00:52:11.99 And so: congratulations, she won. The only person 00:52:12.49\00:52:15.30 who's not happy is her because as she's handing over 00:52:15.50\00:52:18.07 her sheep tears are cascading down her face. 00:52:18.27\00:52:20.84 It's not easy to give up something that you love. 00:52:21.04\00:52:24.17 Not easy for God to give up His only Son 00:52:25.91\00:52:28.61 Jesus... someone He loved. 00:52:28.81\00:52:31.08 Not easy for Jesus to go willingly to the cross. 00:52:31.28\00:52:34.58 But He went willingly. 00:52:34.78\00:52:37.25 Jesus is the Lamb. John wrote about Him in the 00:52:37.65\00:52:39.82 book of Revelation referencing Jesus as the Lamb 00:52:40.02\00:52:42.72 a couple of dozen times. 00:52:42.92\00:52:44.33 "The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. " 00:52:44.53\00:52:47.20 Friends, the sanctuary service tells us that "God so loved 00:52:47.60\00:52:50.60 the world that He gave. " That Jesus so loved 00:52:50.80\00:52:54.74 the human family - a wicked, sin-tainted, 00:52:54.94\00:52:59.37 corrupted human family - He loved that human family 00:52:59.57\00:53:02.64 so much He was willing to give His life. 00:53:02.84\00:53:05.18 He would die so that we might live. 00:53:05.58\00:53:08.08 What does this call forth from you today? 00:53:08.28\00:53:11.15 Now as Jesus gave Himself as the Lamb 00:53:11.65\00:53:14.42 we can talk about that. But we mustn't without at least 00:53:14.62\00:53:18.13 mentioning that God calls us to give ourselves 00:53:18.33\00:53:22.53 as lambs. You've read, haven't you, Romans chapter 12 verse 1. 00:53:22.73\00:53:25.73 "I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God 00:53:25.93\00:53:27.80 that you present your bodies... " What? 00:53:28.00\00:53:29.57 "a living sacrifice. " 00:53:29.77\00:53:31.97 All His... laid out on the altar. 00:53:32.57\00:53:36.31 God's property... a living sacrifice. 00:53:36.51\00:53:39.81 Yes, Jesus died for our sins. 00:53:40.02\00:53:42.82 Now He calls us to die. 00:53:43.02\00:53:45.92 Literally? Perhaps... but in the vast majority of cases no. 00:53:46.12\00:53:50.99 He calls us to die by living. 00:53:51.39\00:53:54.03 Living our lives yielded to Him. 00:53:54.23\00:53:56.33 Given to Him. Friend, how is it with you today? 00:53:56.53\00:53:58.53 A living sacrifice. You're not a sacrifice until God has you all. 00:53:58.73\00:54:04.81 And He doesn't have you all if there's something you're 00:54:05.01\00:54:07.28 holding back. Well that makes your normal. 00:54:07.48\00:54:08.81 If there's something you're holding back, you can easily 00:54:09.11\00:54:11.51 run to God now and say: "God, remedy this. " 00:54:11.71\00:54:13.42 And God will do that. You see, the gospel isn't about 00:54:13.62\00:54:16.55 us telling God we're good. "Here I am; I have made it. " 00:54:16.79\00:54:19.42 The gospel contemplates our complete recovery from the 00:54:19.62\00:54:21.76 power of sin. We turn up to God broken, 00:54:21.96\00:54:25.43 sinful, incomplete, 00:54:25.63\00:54:28.50 admitting that we cannot be what He wants us to be 00:54:28.70\00:54:31.40 except as we exercise faith in the Lamb: 00:54:31.60\00:54:36.24 the Lamb Christ Jesus. 00:54:36.44\00:54:38.61 Claim Him as yours. You are credited for His death, 00:54:38.81\00:54:42.91 credited for His life. 00:54:43.11\00:54:44.98 And now as Jesus lives His life in you 00:54:45.18\00:54:48.52 He will raise you up to be all that you can be... 00:54:48.72\00:54:52.79 in His power, not in yours. 00:54:52.99\00:54:55.66 All we need to be is willing. 00:54:56.99\00:54:58.79 God calls us to surrender. You can cast your burdens 00:54:58.99\00:55:02.33 upon Him. You can take your weakness to Him. 00:55:02.53\00:55:05.17 You can take your failings to Him and admit: 00:55:05.37\00:55:08.37 "God, that's all I am, " but with Jesus living His life 00:55:08.57\00:55:12.01 in me, with the Lamb as my Savior, 00:55:12.21\00:55:16.75 with Christ at work in my life, 00:55:16.95\00:55:20.82 then Jesus' death as the Lamb for you 00:55:20.95\00:55:25.05 will mean something throughout eternity. 00:55:25.25\00:55:27.46 What a terrible thing that Jesus died in vain. 00:55:28.06\00:55:31.46 Don't let it be in vain for you. 00:55:31.86\00:55:33.50 Back in the 1990s a young South African fellow named 00:55:35.00\00:55:37.43 Deon Dreyer was diving in a hole in the ground. 00:55:37.63\00:55:42.90 In northern Cape Province in South Africa there's a little 00:55:43.30\00:55:45.91 hole in the ground but it goes down hundreds and hundreds 00:55:46.11\00:55:49.08 of feet. It's the third deepest fresh water diving site 00:55:49.28\00:55:54.92 on the planet... at least it was. 00:55:55.12\00:55:56.95 Bushman's Hole is the name of it. 00:55:57.15\00:56:00.09 Diving that deep, and Deon Dreyer went down 900 feet, 00:56:00.79\00:56:04.56 is dangerous. He never came back up. 00:56:04.76\00:56:08.56 A pilot named Dave Shaw 00:56:10.67\00:56:13.54 was diving in the same place a dozen... ten years later 00:56:13.74\00:56:17.44 and he found Deon Dreyer's body at 900 feet down. 00:56:17.64\00:56:23.11 He came to the surface slowly, met Deon's parents. 00:56:23.65\00:56:27.68 He said: "I want to go down and bring his body up 00:56:27.88\00:56:29.58 so we can bury him. " The parents were touched. 00:56:29.78\00:56:32.45 It was dangerous. 00:56:32.85\00:56:34.59 But Dave Shaw decided that he would take the risk 00:56:34.99\00:56:38.56 to go that far down and bring up his fallen comrade. 00:56:38.76\00:56:42.43 Well Dave Shaw went down and he didn't come up either. 00:56:42.63\00:56:45.90 They found both men some time later at about 500 feet. 00:56:47.30\00:56:50.57 Dave Shaw gave his life to bring someone up from 00:56:52.17\00:56:56.14 the depths. Jesus gave His life 00:56:56.34\00:57:01.32 to bring you and me up from the depths of sin. 00:57:01.52\00:57:05.45 Jesus is the Lamb. Without the Lamb we are nothing. 00:57:05.65\00:57:08.29 Without the Lamb we have no hope. 00:57:08.79\00:57:12.69 With the Lamb, we have heaven to look forward to. 00:57:12.89\00:57:16.56 Will you pray with me right now? 00:57:16.77\00:57:18.10 Our Father and our God, let Jesus, the Lamb, 00:57:18.27\00:57:22.37 be our Lamb. Grant that He might live His life in us now 00:57:22.57\00:57:26.11 and always. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen and Amen. 00:57:26.31\00:57:31.58
