Debbie: In The Footsteps of Paul 00:08:36.81\00:08:39.78 and so this is intriguing to me because there are a number... 00:08:39.81\00:08:44.62 especially as of late... there seems to be 00:08:44.65\00:08:47.26 a number of programs that are trying to 00:08:47.29\00:08:49.79 portray Biblical characters or Bible stories 00:08:49.82\00:08:53.46 and I don't know how much of a good job 00:08:53.50\00:08:56.46 they are doing... so tell me 00:08:56.50\00:08:58.33 what kinds of things is Biblical World trying to do... 00:08:58.37\00:09:01.27 to counter that kind of an influence. 00:09:01.30\00:09:03.57 We're really trying by... 00:09:03.61\00:09:04.94 and bring the Bible story to life 00:09:04.97\00:09:06.31 and that they be historically accurate... 00:09:06.34\00:09:08.14 to be Scripturally... faithful to Scripture... 00:09:08.18\00:09:11.41 and spiritually relevant, 00:09:11.45\00:09:13.42 now, it's true, there are some recent movies 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.05 that were pretty wild about some of our favorite Bible stories, 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.59 but we're trying to do them in a very Biblical way 00:09:18.65\00:09:21.39 In The Footsteps of Paul and Tracing The Footsteps of Jesus, 00:09:21.42\00:09:24.53 they're really wonderful programs, 00:09:24.59\00:09:26.46 that bring those Bible stories to life 00:09:26.49\00:09:28.23 and they can actually be used evangelistically... by the way. 00:09:28.26\00:09:30.73 There's beautiful advertising you can use, 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.77 if they stop by our Booth they could actually see 00:09:32.80\00:09:35.30 some of the Evangelistic opportunities 00:09:35.37\00:09:37.51 that you would have 00:09:37.54\00:09:38.87 in using that in public meetings or in small groups 00:09:38.91\00:09:41.21 but we're... we're wanting to think beyond that actually 00:09:41.24\00:09:45.25 beyond just some of the programs we've done 00:09:45.31\00:09:48.02 to a little bit wider audience 00:09:48.08\00:09:49.52 and I think that's what you were thinking about. 00:09:49.55\00:09:51.35 Yes and so... as you're thinking about 00:09:51.39\00:09:53.12 how to kind of broaden your reach to a different audience, 00:09:53.15\00:09:55.99 you're actually looking at developing programming 00:09:56.02\00:09:59.19 that could be available on commercial TV, 00:09:59.23\00:10:01.30 why is that necessary? 00:10:01.33\00:10:02.90 We have it available on 3ABN and Hope 00:10:02.93\00:10:04.80 and why commercial television? 00:10:04.83\00:10:07.20 Well we're wanting to do something that would reach out 00:10:07.24\00:10:09.74 into a broader, perhaps, less religious audience 00:10:09.77\00:10:13.88 and it's my belief that people have a soft memory 00:10:13.91\00:10:16.95 at least in this Country about Jesus... 00:10:16.98\00:10:19.35 most people have that but maybe they don't go to church, 00:10:19.38\00:10:21.65 and maybe they won't look at religious programming 00:10:21.68\00:10:23.22 and actually... several years ago, 00:10:23.25\00:10:25.55 there was a program called "The Bible" 00:10:25.59\00:10:27.82 on the History Channel, now they tell us... 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.32 a 100 million people saw that, 00:10:29.36\00:10:31.26 now, I don't know, that's what they say, 00:10:31.29\00:10:32.83 and... but a 100 million people and I'm thinking... 00:10:32.86\00:10:35.16 "Wow! what an opportunity to reach far out 00:10:35.23\00:10:38.30 into the secular world through commercial television" 00:10:38.33\00:10:41.67 so that's what we've been working on... 00:10:41.70\00:10:43.04 a five-part Series for another five one-hour Series, 00:10:43.07\00:10:45.94 and we're actually praying and trying to prepare this 00:10:45.97\00:10:48.44 so it will be such quality that it could actually be 00:10:48.51\00:10:51.51 in prime time that they would desire and want 00:10:51.55\00:10:54.88 to show during prime time. 00:10:54.92\00:10:56.89 Now tell us... I know that we actually have a clip 00:10:56.92\00:11:00.39 that maybe we can... introduce that gives us a picture 00:11:00.42\00:11:04.03 of at least how this looks and what the beginnings are. 00:11:04.06\00:11:07.63 Well, we're pretty excited about that 00:11:07.66\00:11:09.00 but let me tell you about the title, 00:11:09.03\00:11:10.37 because it's called... and they're going to see the clip, 00:11:10.40\00:11:12.70 it's called, "Mysteries of the Fifth Gospel" 00:11:12.73\00:11:14.64 Debbie: Fifth gospel? I thought there were four gospels. 00:11:14.67\00:11:17.01 Yes, there are four gospels, now some people 00:11:17.04\00:11:18.97 think the fifth gospel is the book of Acts 00:11:19.01\00:11:20.64 or some people think it's Revelation 00:11:20.68\00:11:22.88 and... but there's a wonderful line... 00:11:22.91\00:11:25.05 "There are five gospels that tell the story of Jesus, 00:11:25.08\00:11:27.22 four you'll find in books, 00:11:27.28\00:11:28.72 and one you'll find in the land they call: Holy... 00:11:28.75\00:11:31.65 understand the fifth gospel... the Holy Land... 00:11:31.69\00:11:34.52 and the world of the four gospels will open before you. " 00:11:34.56\00:11:37.19 So I'm praying... "What's our edge? 00:11:37.23\00:11:38.59 What's the attraction of the commercial television?" 00:11:38.63\00:11:40.83 I think, "Ah, that's kind of edgy isn't it... " 00:11:40.90\00:11:42.46 you know, the fifth gospel... 00:11:42.50\00:11:43.83 because many people think the fifth gospel is 00:11:43.87\00:11:45.27 Mary Magdalene as the wife of Jesus 00:11:45.30\00:11:46.74 where he's got seven kids and 00:11:46.77\00:11:48.10 commercial television often portrays Jesus in a... 00:11:48.14\00:11:50.71 in a very sarcastic way 00:11:50.74\00:11:52.27 and undermines the faith in Scripture 00:11:52.31\00:11:54.81 and so, we're wanting to do it in a very positive, winsome way 00:11:54.84\00:11:57.95 and... and actually the second line of that Series is called, 00:11:57.98\00:12:01.05 "Exposing the Real Jesus" 00:12:01.08\00:12:02.88 now, "exposing" is a great word in photography, 00:12:02.92\00:12:05.15 terrible word for tabloid journalism, however, 00:12:05.19\00:12:07.82 but we want to reveal or bring out the detail... 00:12:07.86\00:12:10.23 the real Jesus... as we look at the Biblical world 00:12:10.26\00:12:12.59 and that's what this clip is about. 00:12:12.63\00:12:14.23 Okay, so we can roll that clip now 00:12:14.26\00:12:15.76 and get a feel for what it's going to look like. 00:12:15.83\00:12:17.83 The Holy Land... 00:12:17.90\00:12:22.47 For centuries, Christians have focused on these gospels 00:12:22.50\00:12:27.74 while strangely neglecting the fifth, 00:12:27.78\00:12:31.15 in this fascinating Series, our host, Tony Moore, 00:12:31.21\00:12:36.08 follows the narrative of the written gospels 00:12:36.15\00:12:38.85 while seeking to unravel mysteries from the fifth gospel 00:12:38.89\00:12:43.73 that expose... the real Jesus. 00:12:43.76\00:12:46.66 Blowing of a horn... 00:12:46.70\00:13:00.58 music... 00:13:28.74\00:13:30.07 Tony, I want to ask you, what is behind the scenes? 00:13:30.11\00:13:32.94 There's something special about the scenes, 00:13:32.97\00:13:35.34 and your narration that's bringing out certain things 00:13:35.41\00:13:37.98 for our commercial audience. 00:13:38.01\00:13:39.41 Well, we're trying to bring out 00:13:39.45\00:13:40.82 the rich details of the Bible story, 00:13:40.85\00:13:43.15 where they happened and that fifth gospel... 00:13:43.18\00:13:44.95 brining the Bible story to life 00:13:44.99\00:13:46.39 and that's really what that was about 00:13:46.42\00:13:47.99 and while we can't do a full court press about Bible Study 00:13:48.02\00:13:51.19 and so on, we could actually open up 00:13:51.23\00:13:53.19 the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Friday afternoon 00:13:53.23\00:13:55.93 where we see thousands of Jewish people 00:13:55.96\00:13:57.50 in their finest garments, streaming out of the wall 00:13:57.53\00:13:59.77 to welcome in the Sabbath 00:13:59.80\00:14:01.14 or we can crawl around in the tomb of Lazarus 00:14:01.17\00:14:02.64 and tell the story of how Jesus was teaching 00:14:02.67\00:14:06.17 that death is a sleep in that setting, 00:14:06.21\00:14:08.21 so, we're very excited about trying to tell the story 00:14:08.24\00:14:11.35 on location in that way 00:14:11.38\00:14:12.71 and just like the little voice of the narrator there, 00:14:12.75\00:14:15.45 she happened to be our Tour Guide... last year 00:14:15.48\00:14:17.62 on the Island of Patmos and she turned out to be 00:14:17.65\00:14:19.72 an Actress in the UK 00:14:19.75\00:14:22.09 and so we're pretty excited about 00:14:22.12\00:14:23.76 getting her to do that narration 00:14:23.79\00:14:25.39 with the special little voice that she had. 00:14:25.43\00:14:27.90 Well, we are praying that God will be able to 00:14:27.93\00:14:30.37 go before you and open up doors 00:14:30.40\00:14:33.44 so that that can be used in a marvelous way 00:14:33.47\00:14:35.57 to be able to share Jesus with an audience 00:14:35.60\00:14:37.51 that otherwise might not hear about him. 00:14:37.54\00:14:39.44 And you know, for folks here, 00:14:39.47\00:14:40.81 could I just tell them to come by our Booth, 00:14:40.84\00:14:42.74 it's Number 818 and we have a very special 00:14:42.78\00:14:44.78 newsletter... just for ASI... 00:14:44.81\00:14:46.28 that talks about this and they can have... 00:14:46.31\00:14:48.52 and if you're not able to do that, go on our website, 00:14:48.55\00:14:50.99 was it, "fifth gospel" 00:14:51.02\00:14:52.45 spelled out? Janet: Thank you, you can go. 00:18:15.89\00:18:19.36 Now, if we could teach all of our grandchildren 00:18:19.39\00:18:23.60 those precious... what do you call those things? 00:18:23.63\00:18:27.74 Characteristics or well... whatever they're called... 00:18:27.77\00:18:31.34 we would have a much better world... would we not? 00:18:31.37\00:18:34.88 So, Janet, besides the Lamb's Club, 00:18:34.91\00:18:37.85 you have a philosophy 00:18:37.91\00:18:41.08 of being a grandparent and you called it, 00:18:41.12\00:18:42.98 "Intentional Grandparenting" what does that mean? 00:18:43.05\00:18:45.32 It really... it just kind of... 00:18:45.35\00:18:47.52 in the title... you kind of see what it's talking about 00:18:47.56\00:18:50.13 because I have an intent, 00:18:50.16\00:18:53.06 very intentionally to help them be in the Kingdom 00:18:53.09\00:18:57.33 and that's really what the Lamb's Club is all about, 00:18:57.37\00:18:59.43 we have our little law but we talk about character traits, 00:18:59.47\00:19:03.47 we talk about little things that maybe I saw during the week 00:19:03.51\00:19:06.37 that weren't quite right to help them 00:19:06.41\00:19:08.14 become more like Jesus and so we do all sorts of fun things, 00:19:08.18\00:19:12.85 we have a Bell Choir, we study nature, 00:19:12.91\00:19:17.19 we do shells and rocks and all sorts of different things, 00:19:17.22\00:19:20.16 we do crafts and... 00:19:20.19\00:19:24.39 So these are kind of like a little Pathfinder Club 00:19:24.43\00:19:26.83 or Adventurer Club that goes on every Friday night? 00:19:26.86\00:19:29.26 Yes and they look forward to it. 00:19:29.30\00:19:31.17 If I'm out of town, they sometimes call me and say, 00:19:31.20\00:19:33.57 "Grammy, are you going to be home 00:19:33.60\00:19:34.97 in time for Little Lambs' Club? 00:19:35.00\00:19:36.34 Now, is it just for your grandchildren? 00:19:36.37\00:19:38.67 Well, that's kind of what I thought at the beginning 00:19:38.71\00:19:41.24 but it has expanded and so now, 00:19:41.28\00:19:43.41 we have kids from the church, kids from the community 00:19:43.45\00:19:46.95 that will come and be part of the Lambs' Club. 00:19:47.02\00:19:49.55 And how many come? 00:19:49.58\00:19:50.92 It really depends, sometimes we'll have 10 or 12, 00:19:50.95\00:19:54.46 sometimes we'll have just our own kids, 00:19:54.49\00:19:56.46 sometimes we'll have even more. 00:19:56.49\00:19:57.89 Now, it's not just work 00:19:57.96\00:20:01.56 or teaching them positive character traits, 00:20:01.60\00:20:04.07 you also have fun. 00:20:04.10\00:20:05.80 Janet: Oh, it has to be fun. 00:20:05.83\00:20:07.47 Yeah, for sure, I mean, they're little lambs... 00:20:07.50\00:20:10.37 they need to have fun 00:20:10.41\00:20:11.91 so what kind of fun things do you do. 00:20:11.94\00:20:13.34 Besides the Lambs' Club? 00:20:13.38\00:20:14.71 Besides the Lambs' club. 00:20:14.74\00:20:16.08 Okay, we have "Grammy Camp. " 00:20:16.11\00:20:17.45 About once a year, they all get together 00:20:17.48\00:20:19.15 and we have... maybe five days where they stay over 00:20:19.18\00:20:21.55 and we just do a camp with them, 00:20:21.58\00:20:23.82 with marching and gymnastics and crafts and cooking 00:20:23.89\00:20:28.16 and all sorts of things. 00:20:28.19\00:20:30.93 Okay and on their birthdays 00:20:30.96\00:20:32.29 I know you do something special with each one. 00:20:32.33\00:20:34.36 Each one gets a birthday trip, we take them somewhere special 00:20:34.40\00:20:38.13 and this is such a... really special time 00:20:38.17\00:20:39.50 when we can really zero in on them personally, 00:20:39.53\00:20:42.14 they know how much we care about them 00:20:42.17\00:20:43.97 and special time where we seize opportunities 00:20:44.01\00:20:47.21 to bring them closer to Jesus. 00:20:47.28\00:20:48.71 So, do you take them out in the backyard... and 00:20:48.74\00:20:50.68 where do you go? 00:20:50.71\00:20:52.41 Well, sometimes we go to a national park 00:20:52.45\00:20:54.62 and go camping, we go rock collecting, 00:20:54.68\00:20:56.82 we've taken them to Williamsburg, 00:20:56.85\00:20:59.15 it just depends on how many frequent flier miles we have. 00:20:59.19\00:21:03.46 Okay, so how grandmothers out there is this inspiring? 00:21:03.53\00:21:08.86 Yes, okay, so we need to change our strategy, I think, 00:21:08.90\00:21:13.94 after hearing her plans, 00:21:13.97\00:21:16.57 and what she does with her grandchildren, 00:21:16.60\00:21:20.08 I know that my son is going to appreciate 00:21:20.11\00:21:23.51 my intentional grandparenting so thank you Janet, 00:21:23.55\00:21:26.41 Oh, Janet, you have a story to share with us... 00:21:26.45\00:21:29.22 Yes, I do, the two little boys that you saw up here... 00:21:29.25\00:21:32.99 after Lambs' Club every Friday night, 00:21:33.02\00:21:36.73 we have... a couple of them will stay over 00:21:36.76\00:21:39.13 and so it was their turn to stay over, 00:21:39.16\00:21:41.50 I tucked them in, they... 00:21:41.53\00:21:43.23 but before I tucked them in we have prayer 00:21:43.26\00:21:46.13 so they knelt down and the first little guy... 00:21:46.17\00:21:49.04 went through the whole Lambs' Law 00:21:49.07\00:21:52.51 one by one, "Oh Lord, there were... 00:21:52.54\00:21:55.41 sometimes this week where I was not obedient 00:21:55.44\00:21:58.58 and I need your help" and then he went through 00:21:58.61\00:22:01.65 every single one of them and it probably took 15 minutes. 00:22:01.68\00:22:06.25 Leasa: Amen. 00:22:06.29\00:22:07.69 So, when he was finished, the other little guy 00:22:07.72\00:22:12.06 went through the whole plan of salvation 00:22:12.09\00:22:15.36 and when they were finished, I said, 00:22:15.40\00:22:18.60 "You know, you guys, those were like sermons" 00:22:18.63\00:22:21.37 and I said, "You know, you ought to consider being a pastor" 00:22:21.40\00:22:25.71 and they're like... looked at me... 00:22:25.74\00:22:27.54 and I tucked them in and went downstairs 00:22:27.58\00:22:30.48 and I didn't hear any more from them until the next morning 00:22:30.51\00:22:32.81 and the next morning, one of them came to me 00:22:32.85\00:22:34.18 and said, "Grammy, I need to tell you, 00:22:34.22\00:22:35.75 we didn't go to sleep right away after you left... " 00:26:57.91\00:27:01.05 Okay, so you opened a restaurant, 00:27:01.08\00:27:03.39 now, restaurant is hard work, 00:27:03.42\00:27:05.39 I mean, it is really labor intensive 00:27:05.42\00:27:08.26 and even people in the best of health 00:27:08.29\00:27:11.03 it's very... stressful for them, how do you do it? 00:27:11.09\00:27:13.73 It's a miracle from God, 00:27:13.76\00:27:16.00 I've had an auto-immune disease most of my life, 00:27:16.03\00:27:18.70 I live in chronic pain, 00:27:18.73\00:27:20.47 I don't always have to use a wheelchair, 00:27:20.50\00:27:22.80 I do have stools placed strategically in the kitchen 00:27:22.84\00:27:26.74 and behind the counter and through prayer 00:27:26.78\00:27:29.44 my health has actually improved in the past year 00:27:29.51\00:27:33.08 since I started the restaurant. 00:27:33.11\00:27:34.45 Amen... amen... so, why do you do all this work? 00:27:34.48\00:27:38.49 What is your end goal? 00:27:38.52\00:27:40.76 I want to share Jesus with others, 00:27:40.82\00:27:43.19 I want them to know the joy of Jesus... 00:27:43.22\00:27:45.43 the joy that he's given me, the peace that I have, 00:27:45.46\00:27:49.26 I want them to have it too. 00:27:49.30\00:27:51.00 And in the restaurant, 00:27:51.03\00:27:52.37 do you have an opportunity to do that? 00:27:52.40\00:27:53.74 Oh, so much more than I ever dreamed possible. 00:27:53.77\00:27:57.84 The thrill for us when we opened the restaurant 00:27:57.87\00:28:01.54 is that we're small... it's a small community... 00:28:01.58\00:28:05.25 but when customers come in, 00:28:05.28\00:28:07.18 they expect us to sit down and talk to them while they eat. 00:28:07.22\00:28:11.29 Leasa: Amen. 00:28:11.32\00:28:12.65 I mean, what better can you ask for? 00:28:12.69\00:28:15.12 It is such a blessing and so exciting. 00:28:15.16\00:28:17.99 So, in your conversations with them, 00:28:18.03\00:28:20.93 do you have opportunities to witness? 00:28:20.96\00:28:23.87 Yes. 00:28:23.90\00:28:25.23 Can you share a couple of stories with us? 00:28:25.27\00:28:26.94 Oh, I'd love to. 00:28:26.97\00:28:28.44 One of my favorite couples 00:28:28.47\00:28:34.84 started coming in, 00:28:34.88\00:28:36.21 a mother and her son and they started coming in 00:28:36.24\00:28:38.35 just because they liked fruits and vegetables 00:28:38.38\00:28:41.15 and wanted to know that they were eating a 00:28:41.18\00:28:43.95 healthy meal once in a while, 00:28:43.99\00:28:45.32 so they started coming in 00:28:45.35\00:28:46.96 probably about once or twice a week 00:28:47.02\00:28:48.96 and after a while, they got to know me well enough 00:28:48.99\00:28:53.09 that pretty soon... they came just to eat lunch with me 00:28:53.13\00:28:56.83 which means, when they walk in the door, 00:28:56.87\00:28:59.20 if I'm not busy with other customers, 00:28:59.23\00:29:01.47 they want me to go in the kitchen... and get my food too 00:29:01.50\00:29:04.24 and sit down and eat lunch with them 00:29:04.27\00:29:06.54 and it's been such a joy to develop a relationship with them 00:29:06.57\00:29:11.21 now we can talk about Bible topics, 00:29:11.25\00:29:14.98 I now have an open invitation to go to their house, 00:29:15.02\00:29:18.65 drop in on them any time which is a real blessing 00:29:18.69\00:29:22.26 and just to be able to pray together, 00:29:22.32\00:29:25.96 share a prayer request and it's just such a blessing. 00:29:25.99\00:29:29.50 Now, besides health needs, what other needs do they have? 00:29:29.53\00:29:33.60 They have a need for Jesus, you know, it's the Bible belt 00:29:33.64\00:29:37.91 but they don't understand how simple salvation really is 00:29:37.97\00:29:42.21 and the superstition is very high 00:29:42.24\00:29:45.25 and for me... I was shocked, 00:29:45.28\00:29:48.75 I felt like I had arrived in a different country... 00:29:48.78\00:29:51.09 Now these people... this group of people... 00:29:51.12\00:29:53.92 especially... are very suspicious of outsiders 00:29:53.96\00:29:56.56 and it's extremely hard to reach them 00:29:56.62\00:29:59.09 with a prophecy seminar or anything like that 00:29:59.13\00:30:02.56 so are you able to... do they... 00:30:02.60\00:30:04.57 what kind of relationships do you have with them 00:30:04.63\00:30:07.77 that can help you to teach them about Jesus? 00:30:07.80\00:30:10.94 Well, I'll share with you one more story. 00:30:10.97\00:30:14.04 A lady, I will call Doris, she grew up Catholic 00:30:14.08\00:30:18.71 and she never understood the love of Jesus 00:30:18.75\00:30:22.18 and she got to know us through our cooking classes 00:30:22.22\00:30:25.39 and then through the restaurant 00:30:25.45\00:30:27.42 and got to know us as friends as time went on 00:30:27.46\00:30:31.66 and pretty soon she just started opening up to us 00:30:31.69\00:30:35.83 and said, "I want to understand the love of Jesus more, 00:30:35.86\00:30:39.23 I want to know Him better," 00:30:39.27\00:30:41.94 and after a couple of years 00:30:41.97\00:30:44.54 of me just sharing a Bible promise with her 00:30:44.57\00:30:47.21 or praying with her and encouraging her, 00:30:47.24\00:30:49.94 she came with me to a Women's Retreat 00:30:49.98\00:30:52.58 last fall and accepted Jesus as her Savior 00:30:52.61\00:30:56.75 for the very first time. I have power in abundance. 00:34:21.99\00:34:25.23 Okay... okay... so... when this happened 00:34:25.29\00:34:29.33 what did you do? 00:34:29.36\00:34:30.77 I was kind of frustrated 00:34:30.80\00:34:33.37 because I really, really despise the cold, so... 00:34:33.40\00:34:36.14 That's why you went to school in Tennessee? 00:34:36.17\00:34:39.34 Jeremiah is nodding his head. 00:34:39.37\00:34:41.01 Okay, let's watch the video and then we'll talk some more. 00:34:41.04\00:34:45.35 There is like... about an inch of ice 00:34:45.41\00:34:47.08 and it was enough to take down a couple of trees 00:34:47.12\00:34:49.22 and then most of the roads were pretty blocked 00:34:49.25\00:34:51.32 and stuff like that and so, 00:34:51.35\00:34:53.39 we as a couple of kids from the school... 00:34:53.42\00:34:56.86 we went out and had a chainsaw... 00:34:56.89\00:34:59.33 chainsaw groups and we all just cut some trees off 00:34:59.36\00:35:03.00 and pushed them to the side of the road 00:35:03.03\00:35:07.50 for six miles... we covered six miles... 00:35:07.54\00:35:11.94 And what's happening here? 00:35:11.97\00:35:13.48 Okay, here we had pretty much like a soup kitchen, 00:35:13.51\00:35:17.91 we fed... we fed... about 1,000 people, so... 00:35:17.98\00:35:25.52 Leasa: How many meals? 00:35:25.55\00:35:27.06 Ten days' worth of meals. 00:35:27.09\00:35:28.69 Ten days' worth of meals... 00:35:28.72\00:35:30.26 about a thousand people per meal. 00:35:30.29\00:35:31.63 Wow! okay so that's 3,000 meals, 00:35:31.66\00:35:35.90 that's like 30,000 meals... you've served. 00:35:35.93\00:35:38.10 Yes, that's right, in that little kitchen. 00:35:38.13\00:35:40.27 So, through this experience of reaching out to the community, 00:35:40.30\00:35:44.81 did you learn anything about your community? 00:35:44.84\00:35:47.34 Well, the kids that were talking in the video... 00:35:47.38\00:35:50.81 they had the opportunity to go door to door 00:35:50.85\00:35:52.25 you know... we... 00:35:52.28\00:35:53.62 this was widespread in a lot of communities 00:35:53.65\00:35:55.92 and we sat down and met with 00:35:55.95\00:35:57.82 Emergency Management folks everyday 00:35:57.85\00:36:00.62 and those folks said that 00:36:00.66\00:36:02.99 all other counties in our area except ours, 00:36:03.02\00:36:07.13 there was loss of life and they said the reason why 00:36:07.16\00:36:10.83 there was not a loss of life in our County 00:36:10.87\00:36:13.00 was because these kids went door to door 00:36:13.03\00:36:15.17 making sure that everybody was okay 00:36:15.20\00:36:16.74 and several of them in the video mentioned that 00:36:16.77\00:36:20.78 folks were so appreciative that they were going door to door 00:36:20.84\00:36:25.15 and when they would ask, "Why are you here?" 00:36:25.18\00:36:27.72 They'd say, "We're here to help you. " 00:36:27.78\00:36:29.12 They'd ask, "Where are you from?" 00:36:29.15\00:36:30.49 They'd say, "Well, we're from Heritage Academy... 00:36:30.52\00:36:31.85 just down the street" 00:36:31.89\00:36:33.22 and they'll say, "Well, are you guys okay?" 00:36:33.25\00:36:35.36 And they'd say, "Well, we're without power too" 00:36:35.39\00:36:38.29 and just the idea that the kids were without power, 00:36:38.33\00:36:41.16 out serving other people that didn't have power, was powerful. 00:36:41.20\00:36:45.87 Audience: Amen. 00:36:45.90\00:36:47.60 Now, were you known before this... this event? 00:36:47.64\00:36:50.77 A little bit, you know, we were that little school 00:36:50.81\00:36:53.27 down at the end of the road with the... you know... 00:36:53.31\00:36:56.64 at the dirt road and things where the kids did canvassing 00:36:56.68\00:36:59.88 and a lot of outreach but absolutely nothing 00:36:59.91\00:37:03.12 compares to how meeting the need of folks 00:37:03.15\00:37:06.29 just at that time... the difference it made 00:37:06.32\00:37:08.82 for them, so... Leasa: Amen. 00:37:08.86\00:37:10.19 Forty percent of our local community is impoverished... 00:37:10.23\00:37:12.86 we found that out as we were serving them, 00:37:12.89\00:37:15.73 and so our goal is that 00:37:15.76\00:37:17.93 the kids are going to go out once a month 00:37:18.00\00:37:19.77 and feed the folks in Monterey 00:37:19.80\00:37:23.07 and a free meal and have a music concert 00:37:23.10\00:37:26.71 and share Jesus with them 00:37:26.74\00:37:28.24 while hearts are opened and they're excited 00:37:28.28\00:37:30.88 and... I tell you... we have the greatest group of kids 00:37:30.91\00:37:34.52 trained in disaster response 00:37:34.58\00:37:36.35 better than most people you'll know, 00:37:36.38\00:37:37.95 we've just been so excited to see them being used by God 00:37:37.99\00:37:42.22 as the hands and feet of Jesus in a disaster. 00:37:42.26\00:37:45.03 Amen... amen... so Jeremiah... 00:37:45.06\00:37:46.70 what was your personal experience with this disaster? 00:37:46.73\00:37:50.97 Okay, so... like I said before, 00:37:51.00\00:37:53.50 I totally despise the cold 00:37:53.54\00:37:54.97 and it was really frustrating waking up to a cold... 00:37:55.00\00:37:57.84 cold mornings... and spending the day in the cold 00:37:57.87\00:38:00.68 but helping other people and like... 00:38:00.71\00:38:04.18 being able to reach out to them 00:38:04.21\00:38:05.85 like supplying them with food 00:38:05.88\00:38:07.55 and then seeing their gratefulness 00:38:07.58\00:38:09.15 gave a lot of us... like that warm sensation in your heart... 00:38:09.18\00:38:13.79 like... true happiness... like satisfaction... 00:38:13.82\00:38:18.13 you know, Jesus said, 00:38:18.16\00:38:19.49 "Whatever you've done to the least of these, 00:38:19.53\00:38:22.06 you've done to me" and so, it was really a great blessing. 00:38:22.10\00:38:25.47 Amen... amen... you know, there's nothing like 00:38:25.50\00:38:29.20 using the Isaiah 58 model to reach your community 00:38:29.24\00:38:33.34 and... so... what... 00:38:33.38\00:38:35.51 do you have plans for a follow up, 00:38:35.54\00:38:37.15 you said about "once a month thing" 00:38:37.18\00:38:39.41 but was your student experience... 00:38:39.45\00:38:41.65 what are some other plans that you have? 00:38:41.68\00:38:44.29 Well, the kids are trained in Disaster Response 00:38:44.32\00:38:46.86 so they travel to lots of different places 00:38:46.89\00:38:49.42 training other young people and communities 00:38:49.46\00:38:51.89 in disaster response so they're prepared 00:38:51.93\00:38:54.26 should something like this happen... and for us... 00:38:54.30\00:38:56.56 we'd been to lots of places but it never had happened to us 00:38:56.60\00:39:00.00 and so, it really gives us a very different perspective. 00:39:00.04\00:39:03.37 We're taught not to say, 00:39:03.41\00:39:04.74 "I understand what you're going through," 00:39:04.77\00:39:06.98 because you don't... but in this moment... 00:39:07.01\00:39:09.38 Jerry could stand next to a guy and say, 00:39:09.41\00:39:11.78 "I'm without power, you're without power," 00:39:11.81\00:39:14.12 he could have prayer with them and they could understand 00:39:14.15\00:39:16.22 the compassion in his heart for them 00:39:16.25\00:39:18.15 going through the exact same thing... so, it was really neat. 00:39:18.19\00:39:21.09 Amen... amen... and that's what Pathway to Health 00:39:21.12\00:39:24.13 this weekend was all about also, 00:39:24.16\00:39:25.63 you know, if we can reach out to our community 00:39:25.69\00:39:28.83 and meet their needs, we can share Jesus with them 00:39:28.86\00:39:31.97 much more effectively, thank you so much. 00:39:32.00\00:39:34.04 This is Ty Gibson, 00:39:34.07\00:39:37.21 he's a Co-Director for Light Bearers 00:39:37.24\00:39:39.14 and Ty, first tell us a little bit about Light Bearers. 00:39:39.17\00:39:42.28 I'm intrigued to know 00:39:42.34\00:39:43.85 that Light Bearers is a lot more than just literature. 00:39:43.88\00:39:47.68 It is... and I begin by saying that this is where it began 00:39:47.75\00:39:50.75 right here in Spokane, a lot of people don't know that 00:39:50.79\00:39:53.76 but my wife, Sue and I were baptized in this city 00:39:53.79\00:39:56.86 when we were 18-years old and... 00:39:56.89\00:39:59.16 Debbie: Just a few short years ago. 00:39:59.19\00:40:01.33 Yeah, yeah... was that five years ago? 00:40:01.36\00:40:03.47 Yeah, we came to know the Lord here in Spokane 00:40:03.50\00:40:07.57 and we had a very motivational pastor who believed that 00:40:07.60\00:40:12.47 young people should be involved in ministry 00:40:12.54\00:40:14.78 and so... right here in this city, 00:40:14.81\00:40:16.81 we got a map and a yellow highlighter pen 00:40:16.85\00:40:20.15 and I know this area, 00:40:20.18\00:40:21.68 we literally walked through all the streets of Spokane, 00:40:21.72\00:40:26.65 street by street and marked each street off 00:40:26.69\00:40:31.06 doing door-to-door work and it was a privilege... 00:40:31.09\00:40:33.66 this is where we began Light Bearers Ministry. 00:40:33.70\00:40:36.20 James Rafferty, my Associate, was baptized here as well 00:40:36.23\00:40:39.67 shortly thereafter and... 00:40:39.70\00:40:41.60 and we started the ministry 00:40:41.64\00:40:43.51 as an in-home, small-group Bible Study. 00:40:43.54\00:40:46.84 We had small groups, 10 to 15 of them 00:40:46.88\00:40:49.58 meeting all around the greater Spokane 00:40:49.61\00:40:52.25 and Coeur D'Alene area for a number of years... it was great. 00:40:52.28\00:40:55.22 Isn't it? So this is really like "coming home" for you. 00:40:55.25\00:40:57.75 Yes it is, I love this City. 00:40:57.79\00:40:59.12 Right to its beginnings. Ty: Yeah... yeah... yeah... 00:40:59.15\00:41:01.26 So, I mentioned literature because 00:41:01.29\00:41:04.13 I think many of us know Light Bearers 00:41:04.16\00:41:06.93 for the literature distribution 00:41:07.00\00:41:08.40 but it is more than that... you mentioned... 00:41:08.43\00:41:11.10 Yeah, it actually began as a teaching ministry, 00:41:11.13\00:41:13.80 literature was an afterthought 00:41:13.84\00:41:16.40 because as new Seventh-day Adventist Christians 00:41:16.47\00:41:19.07 we started noticing in the writings of Ellen White 00:41:19.14\00:41:21.74 the idea that the Preacher's work should be 00:41:21.78\00:41:25.08 supplemented by or backed up by written material 00:41:25.11\00:41:28.58 so, as we were teaching and as we were preaching, 00:41:28.62\00:41:31.95 we began writing and producing materials, 00:41:32.02\00:41:35.36 we bought a copy machine at first 00:41:35.39\00:41:36.73 and then we bought a printing press... 00:41:36.76\00:41:38.09 and figured out we didn't know how to run it 00:41:38.13\00:41:40.16 so we hired a guy to run it 00:41:40.20\00:41:41.53 and we began producing literature 00:41:41.56\00:41:44.23 but Light Bearers is also a teaching ministry, 00:41:44.27\00:41:48.40 we run a school called "Arise" 00:41:48.44\00:41:50.21 and that runs two courses every year, 00:41:50.24\00:41:52.91 one here in the United States, the last week of August 00:41:52.94\00:41:55.84 we began our course here, it's a three-month discipleship 00:41:55.88\00:41:58.55 training course and we run one in Australia each year as well, 00:41:58.58\00:42:02.68 it's a Media Ministry, 00:42:02.72\00:42:04.65 we produce a lot of video projects, 00:42:04.69\00:42:06.76 you may want to check out Digma. com 00:42:06.79\00:42:08.76 and... yeah... and a lot of teaching and preaching, 00:42:08.79\00:42:11.56 we have four full-time evangelists... 00:42:11.59\00:42:13.66 myself, James Rafferty, Jeffrey Rosario 00:42:13.70\00:42:15.70 and David Asscherick and we preach and teach 00:42:15.73\00:42:18.77 and we're eager for Jesus to come 00:42:18.80\00:42:21.10 so that's what we're doing with ourselves. 00:42:21.17\00:42:22.70 Well, praise the Lord, 00:42:22.74\00:42:24.07 and it sounds like you guys have been really busy. 00:42:24.11\00:42:25.61 Busy... better to be busy than bored. 00:42:25.64\00:42:27.84 Debbie: Yes... Ty: Yes. 00:42:27.88\00:42:29.21 Tell us then, what particular projects 00:42:29.24\00:42:31.28 are happening right now 00:42:31.31\00:42:32.65 in addition to the regular schedule of training? 00:42:32.68\00:42:36.08 Well, the... the present project that we're super excited about 00:42:36.12\00:42:40.62 is called Truth Link... 00:42:40.66\00:42:42.42 we have a Booth specifically for Truth Link... 00:42:42.46\00:42:44.59 please check it out or go to truthlink. org 00:42:44.63\00:42:46.73 and these are Bible Studies, you'll be delighted to find out 00:42:46.76\00:42:50.67 that are really powerful 00:42:50.70\00:42:53.00 because they achieve two things... number one... 00:42:53.03\00:42:55.60 these Bible Studies are doctrinally sound... 00:42:55.64\00:42:57.94 they are theologically rich... 00:42:57.97\00:43:00.08 they move systematically through 00:43:00.11\00:43:01.94 the entire Adventist message, 00:43:02.01\00:43:03.78 including First, Second and Third Angels' messages 00:43:03.81\00:43:06.41 with a very intentional focus on weaving in gospel concepts 00:43:06.48\00:43:11.45 righteousness by faith concepts, justification, 00:43:11.49\00:43:14.29 salvation concepts through every doctrine, 00:43:14.32\00:43:16.69 so it doesn't matter what you're encountering 00:43:16.73\00:43:18.69 whether you're studying the Sabbath... 00:43:18.73\00:43:20.40 you're studying... justification by faith, 00:43:20.43\00:43:22.06 you're studying the third angel's message... 00:43:22.10\00:43:24.07 you're studying righteousness by faith, 00:43:24.10\00:43:25.70 you're studying the sanctuary... 00:43:25.73\00:43:27.20 you're encountering the gospel. 00:43:27.24\00:43:28.64 So that's Truth Link and these Bible Studies... 00:43:28.67\00:43:31.47 you'll want to acquaint yourself with them 00:43:31.51\00:43:33.54 and that's what we're presently doing. 00:43:33.58\00:43:35.51 So now, the project that is in the Offering for this year 00:43:35.54\00:43:39.68 is something different, 00:43:39.71\00:43:41.05 so there's something new on the horizon 00:43:41.08\00:43:42.62 describe that for us. 00:43:42.65\00:43:43.99 Well, the project that you as ASI will be supporting 00:43:44.02\00:43:48.56 this year... actually we've decided 00:43:48.62\00:43:50.86 for it to encompass two projects. 00:43:50.89\00:43:53.06 The offering that you'll give to Light Bearers this year 00:43:53.09\00:43:56.80 which I think is 40,000 dollars will contribute to 00:43:56.87\00:44:00.20 number one... a container of literature for Tanzania, 00:44:00.24\00:44:04.21 these publications are going to Tanzania specifically 00:44:04.24\00:44:08.18 to be follow-up 00:44:08.21\00:44:09.54 for the Ted Wilson Evangelistic Meetings 00:44:09.58\00:44:11.71 that just occurred there in the spring, 00:44:11.75\00:44:13.88 we also provided the pre-work evangelistic literature 00:44:13.92\00:44:18.12 leading up to his meetings, 00:44:18.15\00:44:19.49 so in Tanzania, they've already distributed 00:44:19.55\00:44:21.89 two containers of literature 00:44:21.92\00:44:23.63 surrounding his Evangelistic Meetings 00:44:23.69\00:44:25.83 and a container of literature has two million publications 00:44:25.86\00:44:30.13 and so Tanzania is one of the projects that you're supporting 00:44:30.17\00:44:34.37 and then also... 00:44:34.40\00:44:35.74 one of the containers will be sent to South Africa 00:44:35.77\00:44:39.07 for three conferences there that have banned together 00:44:39.11\00:44:42.28 and they have a lot of evangelistic meetings planned 00:44:42.31\00:44:45.45 because we don't send... 00:44:45.51\00:44:48.25 we don't just... drop off a container of literature 00:44:48.28\00:44:50.99 somewhere in the world, 00:44:51.02\00:44:52.35 they have to be very intentional, deliberate, 00:44:52.39\00:44:56.12 aggressive, high-energy, proactive efforts 00:44:56.16\00:45:00.00 that are going on 00:45:00.03\00:45:01.36 and then we send that material... 00:45:01.40\00:45:03.06 then people distribute it, 00:45:03.10\00:45:04.73 they engage people in Bible Studies systematically 00:45:04.77\00:45:07.24 and what we're doing by sending this literature 00:45:07.27\00:45:09.64 to the mission field... one container after another... 00:45:09.67\00:45:12.77 is we are raising the Biblical literacy 00:45:12.81\00:45:15.58 for our people and our new converts 00:45:15.64\00:45:18.35 rather than the Evangelist just arriving 00:45:18.38\00:45:20.05 and kind of a "hit-and-run" 00:45:20.12\00:45:21.45 doing a two-week or a three-week evangelistic campaign 00:45:21.48\00:45:23.62 and then baptizing a few hundred or a thousand or two thousand... 00:45:23.65\00:45:27.16 sometimes thousands of people and then leaving... 00:45:27.19\00:45:30.86 the literature produces a mature theological faith 00:45:30.89\00:45:33.90 so a person who becomes a Seventh-day Adventist... 00:45:33.93\00:45:37.40 they know what it means to be a Seventh-day Adventist 00:45:37.47\00:45:40.90 in their belief system, 00:45:40.94\00:45:42.27 we believe that the character development part 00:45:42.30\00:45:46.68 of Christian experience follows Theology 00:45:46.71\00:45:48.61 so we believe people need to be richly, theologically educated 00:45:48.64\00:45:54.15 and that's what this material will be doing. 00:45:54.18\00:45:55.82 That sounds like it's going to be a phenomenal project 00:45:55.85\00:45:58.22 and we look forward to being in partnership 00:45:58.25\00:46:00.46 supporting Light Bearers. 00:46:00.49\00:46:01.82 Thank you to ASI for supporting these two containers this year. 00:46:01.86\00:46:06.90 Right, thank you very much, Ty, I appreciate it. 00:46:06.93\00:46:08.76 Coming to the podium now is James Hartley. 00:46:08.80\00:46:13.13 James Hartley directs another light... 00:46:13.17\00:46:16.24 well light... 00:46:16.27\00:46:17.81 James: We get confused a lot... that's true. 00:46:17.84\00:46:22.51 So James, tell me a little bit about LIGHT... 00:46:22.54\00:46:25.25 what does that name mean, 00:46:25.31\00:46:26.92 it's an acronym... James: Yeah... 00:46:26.95\00:46:28.35 And describe the scope of its ministry. 00:46:28.38\00:46:30.65 Okay so... LIGHT stands for the 00:46:30.69\00:46:32.49 Lay Institute for Global Health Training 00:46:32.52\00:46:34.36 and we are providing health evangelism training 00:46:34.39\00:46:36.86 to pastors and lay people around the world. 00:46:36.89\00:46:39.33 We started in 2008 00:46:39.36\00:46:42.46 and ASI has always been a strong supporter 00:46:42.53\00:46:44.13 of this project 00:46:44.17\00:46:45.50 and collectively we're just adding up figures... 00:46:45.53\00:46:48.24 we've trained over 14,000 pastors and lay people 00:46:48.27\00:46:51.24 in over 85 countries of the world. 00:46:51.27\00:46:53.58 Wow! that's a lot of countries. 00:46:53.61\00:46:55.84 It's something that God has taken control of... 00:46:55.91\00:46:57.25 we don't even know how that happened 00:46:57.28\00:46:58.71 but God just took the reins 00:46:58.75\00:47:01.15 in steering it in the right direction... we are 00:47:01.18\00:47:02.92 training people that are going out and training others 00:47:02.95\00:47:04.75 and it's just been multiplying 00:47:04.82\00:47:06.52 and where... people are learning how to reach souls 00:47:06.55\00:47:09.22 with "Jesus results," 00:47:09.26\00:47:10.59 with the right arm of the gospel... getting close to them 00:47:10.63\00:47:12.93 and teaching them how to... how to reach the hearts 00:47:12.96\00:47:15.76 and use the health message as an entering wedge 00:47:15.83\00:47:18.60 through a variety of community programs 00:47:18.63\00:47:20.60 so when people come into our training programs, 00:47:20.64\00:47:23.14 let me just say, our training is 125 hours 00:47:23.20\00:47:26.44 it's not a weekend training, okay, 00:47:26.47\00:47:28.14 it takes a full commitment... a one-month... 00:47:28.18\00:47:30.15 it's a four-week course, intensive 00:47:30.18\00:47:32.51 and so we bring... usually in the 00:47:32.55\00:47:34.15 summer months or on vacation times, 00:47:34.18\00:47:36.22 we're in Brazil, we're in Venezuela, 00:47:36.28\00:47:38.29 we're in Zimbabwe, we're in Thailand 00:47:38.32\00:47:40.79 and Cambodia and Indonesia and Australia... around the world, 00:47:40.82\00:47:44.19 lay people are coming in... and pastors... 00:47:44.23\00:47:46.26 we have shorter trainings for pastors, 00:47:46.29\00:47:48.26 we really want to see our churches getting active 00:47:48.30\00:47:51.00 and one of the easiest ways for lay people to get active 00:47:51.03\00:47:53.37 is getting involved in these different health programs, 00:47:53.40\00:47:55.67 they don't have to be a medical professional 00:47:55.70\00:47:57.57 but we need the medical professional's help 00:47:57.61\00:47:59.44 to lead out these programs 00:47:59.47\00:48:00.81 so to teach them how to do health expos, all right... 00:48:00.84\00:48:03.14 and how the lay people can help with those events 00:48:03.18\00:48:05.71 but not only help... a health expo... you know... 00:48:05.75\00:48:08.22 if doesn't accomplish that much if it's only an event, 00:48:08.25\00:48:10.25 right, but we have follow up plans 00:48:10.29\00:48:12.19 where we teach churches how to set up health clubs, 00:48:12.22\00:48:14.12 that will be like an on-going regular meeting 00:48:14.16\00:48:16.52 throughout the year that where... 00:48:16.56\00:48:17.89 people are learning how to live healthy 00:48:17.93\00:48:19.39 as a community health club, 00:48:19.43\00:48:20.76 it doesn't have to be at the Adventist Church, 00:48:20.80\00:48:22.13 in fact it's usually better not to have it 00:48:22.16\00:48:23.70 at the Adventist Church so it just... brings people in 00:48:23.73\00:48:25.80 and letting health break down prejudice... 00:48:25.83\00:48:28.57 break down barriers, so we're teaching that 00:48:28.60\00:48:31.27 you can use health to reach Muslims and Buddhists 00:48:31.31\00:48:34.54 and Hindus and all religions in the world 00:48:34.58\00:48:36.75 even Roman Catholics, 00:48:36.78\00:48:38.55 I was raised a Roman Catholic in Wisconsin, 00:48:38.58\00:48:40.45 I was really brought into the health... 00:48:40.52\00:48:42.32 into the church... through the health message 00:48:42.35\00:48:44.29 if it wasn't for a vegetarian restaurant 00:48:44.32\00:48:46.29 in Bowser Switzerland, I wouldn't be here today. 00:48:46.32\00:48:49.02 So, the health message, I know it's very powerful 00:48:49.06\00:48:51.19 and so this is what we're trying to get out there. 00:48:51.23\00:48:53.33 You know, it's interesting you say that 00:48:53.40\00:48:54.83 because I was having a conversation with Vicky Griffin 00:48:54.86\00:48:58.33 and she mentioned a statement which I think is very true 00:48:58.40\00:49:01.80 health ministry is a vehicle for teaching the truth about God 00:49:01.84\00:49:07.11 and so this is a very important work 00:49:07.14\00:49:09.51 that you're training individuals to do. 00:49:09.54\00:49:11.85 It shares the character of God, 00:49:11.88\00:49:13.25 because when you have an opportunity 00:49:13.31\00:49:15.08 to show the love of God in a sincere... 00:49:15.12\00:49:16.79 ministering to somebody's needs... it just... 00:49:16.85\00:49:18.79 it makes a connection with somebody... 00:49:18.82\00:49:20.69 it's just... it's just... we need to use the right arm 00:49:20.72\00:49:23.09 if we are not using that tool, we're just... 00:49:23.12\00:49:25.29 we're doing evangelism 00:49:25.33\00:49:26.66 with our right arm tied behind our back. 00:49:26.70\00:49:28.63 So what is happening with LIGHT now... 00:49:28.66\00:49:30.67 what project are you involved with? 00:49:30.70\00:49:32.33 Let me show you a picture here, this is a... 00:49:32.37\00:49:34.40 this is our new online school 00:49:34.44\00:49:36.81 and I don't know if you recognize the language, 00:49:36.84\00:49:38.74 you recognize one word up there at least 00:49:38.77\00:49:40.31 this is our Korean online school so we have our online training 00:49:40.38\00:49:45.21 it's 125 hours of training in English, Spanish 00:49:45.25\00:49:48.55 and we have the whole thing complete in Korean, 00:49:48.58\00:49:51.82 and we've partnered with our Korean Union Health Department 00:49:51.85\00:49:54.42 and we just launched this school one month ago, 00:49:54.46\00:49:57.76 just before the GC... a little... maybe six weeks ago, 00:49:57.79\00:50:00.93 we have over 100 students registered into that program 00:50:00.96\00:50:03.80 that the Korean Union themselves promoted... and are bringing in 00:50:03.83\00:50:06.63 we're training Koreans that are in China... 00:50:06.67\00:50:09.54 that are in Korea... that are all across the United States, 00:50:09.57\00:50:12.07 you know the Koreans have a very strong mission focus, 00:50:12.11\00:50:15.34 you find them all over Southeast Asia, 00:50:15.38\00:50:17.35 right, so we're training them, getting this message in... 00:50:17.38\00:50:20.48 we have a plan to train them... 00:50:20.52\00:50:21.98 those that are especially in China 00:50:22.02\00:50:23.55 to be missionaries there 00:50:23.59\00:50:25.85 and those spread all throughout Southeast Asia, 00:50:25.89\00:50:27.82 our work is growing in Southeast Asia. 00:50:27.86\00:50:29.19 Debbie: Very good. 00:50:29.22\00:50:30.56 Let me... let me... I got one other picture.. 00:50:30.59\00:50:31.93 one other picture here is from Vietnam, 00:50:31.96\00:50:33.93 this is not an easy picture to get. 00:50:33.96\00:50:36.50 Vietnam is probably the most difficult country 00:50:36.53\00:50:39.93 in Southeast Asia to minister in. 00:50:39.97\00:50:42.50 We tried to have ASI meeting there we were present there 00:50:42.57\00:50:46.01 and sadly the Government came 00:50:46.04\00:50:47.58 and just shut down the whole meeting 00:50:47.61\00:50:50.58 so it is not easy to work in Vietnam 00:50:50.61\00:50:53.68 but little by little in a secretive way 00:50:53.72\00:50:56.75 working in our churches, 00:50:56.79\00:50:58.59 you have to be in our church to do training, 00:50:58.62\00:51:00.79 we completed... we have graduates now in Vietnam 00:51:00.82\00:51:02.92 that went through our training course, 00:51:02.99\00:51:04.36 so, let me also just mention... in Thailand... 00:51:04.39\00:51:07.13 we have trained half of the pastors in Thailand 00:51:07.20\00:51:09.90 with a short, condensed training 00:51:09.93\00:51:11.27 and now, their eyes are just wide open, 00:51:11.30\00:51:13.37 calling our teams all over Thailand, 00:51:13.44\00:51:15.47 training church members to use the health message 00:51:15.50\00:51:17.61 to reach Buddhists mainly... in this country. 00:51:17.64\00:51:19.64 Debbie: We have another picture. 00:51:19.67\00:51:21.14 Oh yeah... yeah... yeah... let me... look... 00:51:21.18\00:51:23.21 well this is a different continent now, 00:51:23.24\00:51:24.95 this is Zimbabwe... and it might be a little hard 00:51:25.01\00:51:28.05 to figure out what's going on in there 00:51:28.08\00:51:29.72 but this is a Health Expo, okay, 00:51:29.75\00:51:31.82 can anybody guess how many people were at this Health Expo? 00:51:31.85\00:51:34.39 It looks like a lot... 30,000 people... okay... 00:51:34.42\00:51:37.93 now I know we... 00:51:37.96\00:51:39.79 it's not quite to the level of what Pathways is doing 00:51:39.83\00:51:42.43 in services okay... but we are bringing in... 00:51:42.46\00:51:44.93 this is a partnership with the Conference, 00:51:44.97\00:51:47.17 and it was our lay team... our lay grads 00:51:47.20\00:51:49.34 who've done several short LIGHT Courses, one-month courses 00:51:49.37\00:51:52.31 and they were the ones and our Director in Zimbabwe 00:51:52.34\00:51:54.48 were the ones... helping to lead out and train the masses 00:51:54.51\00:51:56.85 of Adventists that were leading out this massive thing, 00:51:56.88\00:51:59.18 we're planning another one in next spring 00:51:59.21\00:52:01.12 and you'd be invite, Debbie, to just come, 00:52:01.15\00:52:03.18 it's in March... and there's going to be 30... 00:52:03.22\00:52:05.25 they're expecting 35,000... 00:52:05.29\00:52:06.62 to see 35,000 people through that Expo. 00:52:06.65\00:52:09.19 Awww... my first Health Expo Convention, 00:52:09.22\00:52:11.03 all right, I'll look forward to that. 00:52:11.06\00:52:13.23 Let's quickly... let's set way over to 00:52:13.26\00:52:15.36 what is the project for the offering this year. 00:52:15.40\00:52:18.07 Sure, so, LIGHT is an ongoing project, right, 00:52:18.10\00:52:20.70 and so the offerings that ASI has helped to raise for... 00:52:20.74\00:52:24.51 is supporting over 40 missionaries 00:52:24.57\00:52:26.78 that are well screened and trained, 00:52:26.81\00:52:28.94 people that have graduated through our programs, 00:52:28.98\00:52:31.05 have a good reputation, they're full time in the field 00:52:31.08\00:52:32.88 year around... conducting training courses, 00:52:32.91\00:52:34.98 right, we're providing materials... 00:52:35.02\00:52:37.12 health expo equipment and so forth 00:52:37.15\00:52:38.85 especially in areas that are... 00:52:38.89\00:52:40.76 that don't have a lot of finances, 00:52:40.79\00:52:42.59 we're working in a lot of poor countries 00:52:42.62\00:52:44.23 and you know... in those countries it's amazing, 00:52:44.26\00:52:46.46 when you put on health programs... 00:52:46.49\00:52:47.83 you just bring them in by the thousands... 00:52:47.86\00:52:49.20 and I wish I could say how many... 00:52:49.23\00:52:50.80 I was trying to figure it out, 00:52:50.83\00:52:52.17 it's in hundreds of thousands of people that have gone through 00:52:52.20\00:52:54.40 our health programs... all right in all of these countries 00:52:54.44\00:52:56.97 and hundreds of baptisms that we know of, 00:52:57.01\00:52:59.31 I've got one more picture here real quick... 00:52:59.34\00:53:01.61 of a baptism in South America... 00:53:01.64\00:53:03.14 I would be remiss to not mention South America, 00:53:03.21\00:53:05.51 it's just been amazing... 00:53:05.58\00:53:06.92 our partnership with the South American Division 00:53:06.95\00:53:08.68 and the support that we've had there, this is from Chile, 00:53:08.72\00:53:11.62 our course that we conducted in the Northern Conference there 00:53:11.65\00:53:14.59 this gentleman was an Adventist but for years... 00:53:14.62\00:53:17.53 he had been out of the church... 00:53:17.56\00:53:18.89 and somehow he wandered into one of our Expos 00:53:18.93\00:53:21.70 and just got reacquainted with Adventists, 00:53:21.73\00:53:24.07 and his heart was just burning within him, 00:53:24.10\00:53:26.37 he wanted to get Bible Studies 00:53:26.40\00:53:27.74 and within a month he had rejoined the church 00:53:27.77\00:53:29.37 and so... we have testimonies of people joining the church 00:53:29.40\00:53:32.37 around the world, it's Kyle: Thanks for coming back to get me. 00:54:51.22\00:54:52.89 Debbie: Okay... yeah... you know... 00:54:52.95\00:54:54.29 because we wanted to talk a little bit about 00:54:54.32\00:54:56.99 something really special that occurs overseas... 00:54:57.03\00:54:59.03 That's right Debbie, thank you so much. 00:54:59.06\00:55:01.56 You know, ASI... really the heart of ASI 00:55:01.60\00:55:04.10 is our members, amen... 00:55:04.13\00:55:05.67 not only our members that are working in their businesses 00:55:05.70\00:55:08.84 in their workplaces here in the United States 00:55:08.87\00:55:10.77 but also our ministry members 00:55:10.81\00:55:12.74 and we have so many faithful, dedicated missionaries 00:55:12.77\00:55:16.44 around the world, amen 00:55:16.48\00:55:17.81 and I mean... when you... 00:55:17.85\00:55:19.18 when you think about some of these ministries, 00:55:19.21\00:55:21.28 the word that comes to my mind is sacrifice 00:55:21.32\00:55:24.42 because... a lot of our missionaries 00:55:24.45\00:55:27.52 work on very little pay but they're out there 00:55:27.56\00:55:29.79 because they believe in what they're doing 00:55:29.82\00:55:32.16 and their purpose is... sharing Christ. 00:55:32.19\00:55:34.50 So there is a particular area that we want to focus on 00:55:34.56\00:55:38.23 and share something about that ministry, 00:55:38.27\00:55:40.24 is that Riverside Farms? 00:55:40.30\00:55:41.64 That's right... Riverside Farm... in Zambia... 00:55:41.67\00:55:43.07 and I had the privilege, Debbie, of going to Zambia 00:55:43.10\00:55:46.47 last December and just seeing 00:55:46.51\00:55:48.71 this amazing ministry and what they do. 00:55:48.74\00:55:50.38 Allen and Pauline Knowles, Jaypel and Michelle Museller, 00:55:50.41\00:55:54.02 there are lots of other missionaries, 00:55:54.05\00:55:55.38 that have served there and given their time 00:55:55.42\00:55:57.82 to serve the Lord and to reach the people of Zambia 00:55:57.85\00:56:01.22 and I'm telling you, it's an amazing ministry. 00:56:01.26\00:56:02.99 We're talking building one-day churches, 00:56:03.02\00:56:06.23 training lay people not only in... how to... 00:56:06.26\00:56:09.06 how to make a living and then farming and tailoring 00:56:09.10\00:56:12.07 and doing these kinds of things 00:56:12.10\00:56:13.44 but also how to share Christ as lay Bible Workers 00:56:13.47\00:56:15.84 in doing that kind of ministry, it's just an amazing thing 00:56:15.87\00:56:18.07 and on top of that... they have farms... 00:56:18.11\00:56:20.58 huge banana plantations which last year... 00:56:20.61\00:56:23.04 I think, ASI, through the offering 00:56:23.08\00:56:25.78 provided some funding to help plant some banana trees. 00:56:25.81\00:56:29.95 Debbie: That's right. 00:56:29.98\00:56:32.35 ASI Spokane, Washington. 00:56:32.39\00:56:34.72
