Welcome back to 3ABN Spring Camp Meeting. 00:00:38.59\00:00:41.42 How ya'll doing? Great! All right. Still with us 00:00:41.62\00:00:44.35 after how many sermons now? About 18 and one more to go. 00:00:44.45\00:00:47.48 I think this is 19 comin'. Nineteen comin'. 00:00:47.58\00:00:51.03 You've been blessed as we have up here? 00:00:51.33\00:00:53.11 Amen! Absolutely! Praise the Lord for all of these 00:00:53.32\00:00:56.40 men and women who've dedicated their time, 00:00:56.60\00:00:58.74 their time, their abilities to telling the world 00:00:58.84\00:01:01.53 that Jesus is coming back very soon in the clouds of glory. 00:01:01.73\00:01:05.06 You know, one of the things that we've had a tremendous 00:01:05.36\00:01:07.21 time with is music that Bruce Fjarli and his team 00:01:07.31\00:01:10.68 have been leading. We want to thank you, Bruce. 00:01:10.88\00:01:13.40 Don't you appreciate the music with him? Yeah absolutely. 00:01:13.60\00:01:16.86 Amen. All right. 00:01:16.96\00:01:19.26 A real blessing to us. 00:01:20.23\00:01:21.84 And it gives folks... gives you all an opportunity 00:01:22.05\00:01:24.42 to sing a little bit, too - right - 'cause you're 00:01:24.52\00:01:26.37 sitting there. And I know all of you get so full of joy 00:01:26.57\00:01:28.93 you say: "I've got to get rid of some of this. " 00:01:29.03\00:01:30.84 So that helps you. You can sing and join in. 00:01:31.04\00:01:34.19 And to me it's been a big just praise and worship Camp Meeting. 00:01:34.39\00:01:39.04 Yes. And have I felt the anointing of the Holy Spirit 00:01:39.24\00:01:41.57 here - Amen! -tremendously all week. Especially today it just 00:01:41.61\00:01:46.83 seems like. And now that we're coming to the last sermon 00:01:46.93\00:01:50.08 it's almost sad... Yes. You know? 'Cause we've got to wait 00:01:50.28\00:01:53.05 till Fall Camp Meeting now to do this again. 00:01:53.15\00:01:55.66 But we've got a lot to go on and go back and tell our friends 00:01:56.06\00:01:59.55 and everybody that we meet that: "You know what? 00:01:59.75\00:02:02.81 We know Jesus is coming very soon. " 00:02:03.01\00:02:05.60 Amen. And we're excited about that. 00:02:05.90\00:02:07.92 That's very true. And you know, tonight we get to listen to 00:02:08.12\00:02:10.64 Lyle Albrecht. And Lyle is an evangelist 00:02:10.74\00:02:14.06 that... How many of you have seen Lyle on 3ABN? 00:02:14.26\00:02:16.95 All right. Look at there. 00:02:17.25\00:02:19.03 And... He has a couple of series that he's done 00:02:19.43\00:02:23.60 and sometimes we rotate a series. And when we have rotated 00:02:23.71\00:02:27.30 people consistently call and say: "Put Lyle back on. " 00:02:27.40\00:02:30.81 "We want Lyle back on. " 00:02:31.11\00:02:33.86 So we've appreciated his ministry on 3ABN for many, 00:02:34.26\00:02:39.02 many years. His text is Matthew 24:14 00:02:39.12\00:02:43.78 and he feels that must be fulfilled. 00:02:44.08\00:02:46.31 And Lyle was named the Alumnus of the Decade 00:02:46.51\00:02:50.78 from Walla Walla University. 00:02:50.98\00:02:52.85 Wow! Now that's pretty good. 00:02:52.95\00:02:54.12 Neither of the schools that I went to will even acknowledge - 00:02:54.32\00:02:58.14 yeah - that I went there. Yeah. 00:02:58.34\00:02:59.37 It hurts my feelings sometimes you know. 00:02:59.54\00:03:04.01 I'm sensitive and they will not even admit 00:03:04.94\00:03:09.91 that I was a student. After all these sermons 00:03:10.12\00:03:12.02 you've got to get over it. 00:03:12.22\00:03:13.61 Oh wow! Well what a day! 00:03:16.76\00:03:19.95 And you know, the musicians that were here. 00:03:20.15\00:03:22.29 As they left, every one of them said to me 00:03:22.49\00:03:25.80 that they were blessed by being here with our group. 00:03:26.10\00:03:30.16 And you blessed them. 00:03:30.56\00:03:32.33 They blessed you but you blessed them, too. 00:03:32.63\00:03:35.34 And as some of you have guessed by now 00:03:35.55\00:03:38.67 some of these folk that came here we invited here 00:03:38.88\00:03:41.49 they're good friends or Christians but not necessarily 00:03:41.69\00:03:43.74 of our religious persuasion: Seventh-day Adventist. 00:03:43.84\00:03:46.90 But we said: "Man, we just love this! 00:03:47.10\00:03:48.77 We love the songs; we love the people. " 00:03:48.97\00:03:50.71 Thank you for being so friendly to everybody - 00:03:50.91\00:03:52.84 that's right - and be accepting of everybody. 00:03:53.04\00:03:54.84 Because they really love the Lord, and just as they did with 00:03:55.14\00:03:58.69 you but they say: "Whenever you want us back let us know. 00:03:58.79\00:04:01.59 We'd love to come back to a 3ABN Camp Meeting. " 00:04:01.80\00:04:04.10 So we said: "We're going to have you back for sure. " 00:04:04.20\00:04:06.51 Such a powerful way for us to witness to them 00:04:06.81\00:04:09.52 because they have a great impact on people as they visit 00:04:09.72\00:04:12.97 with them. They tell them about this ministry and about 00:04:13.11\00:04:16.71 3ABN and about the message that they hear on 3ABN. 00:04:16.85\00:04:22.34 Well Danny, this is our last meeting. 00:04:22.84\00:04:25.95 I know, I know. It's amazing because 00:04:26.16\00:04:30.51 when you think about eternity that we literally are going to 00:04:30.71\00:04:33.99 be able to have Camp Meeting for eternity 00:04:34.09\00:04:35.75 but we won't get tired there. You don't get sleepy. 00:04:35.85\00:04:38.11 No. But singing the praises of the Lord and being with those 00:04:38.31\00:04:41.74 that maybe we've been separated by death 00:04:42.04\00:04:46.17 for many many years. And being able to spend eternity 00:04:46.37\00:04:49.69 with Jesus. This has helped me I think more than anything 00:04:49.79\00:04:53.04 in the last number of years 'cause you hear a good sermon 00:04:53.24\00:04:55.97 now and then, but to hear all of these sermons 00:04:56.17\00:04:58.01 surrounded... surrounding the fact that Jesus is alive, 00:04:58.21\00:05:02.03 that He's well. He's on the throne ever interceding 00:05:02.23\00:05:05.05 at the right hand of the Father. Yes. It's just so encouraging. 00:05:05.25\00:05:07.96 And I can't wait for the Lord to come back... 00:05:08.36\00:05:11.95 especially as we get older. Yeah. As I mentioned before, 00:05:12.25\00:05:14.04 we realize... You do the math and you say: 00:05:14.14\00:05:15.91 "Lord come quickly. " Some of you guys 00:05:16.01\00:05:17.50 keep getting older. I tell you. It's amazing. 00:05:17.61\00:05:19.38 A few of us do. No comment to that? No, no. 00:05:19.58\00:05:24.11 You know, Danny, one of the great things that I enjoy 00:05:24.87\00:05:28.66 though about Camp Meeting is our afterglow. 00:05:28.86\00:05:31.10 So when this meeting is over historically you've come out 00:05:31.40\00:05:35.50 and led us in some more singing together. 00:05:35.70\00:05:38.42 And we'll have a few minutes right down to sundown 00:05:38.72\00:05:41.71 and we'll spend those last few minutes just having a time 00:05:41.91\00:05:45.68 together. It'll be your turn then to sing. Yeah. 00:05:45.78\00:05:47.24 That's what we look forward to. 00:05:47.64\00:05:48.82 Speaking of singing - yeah - we have some music right now. 00:05:49.02\00:05:51.52 We have a young lady that we both know very well 00:05:51.72\00:05:54.75 and it's Melody... my daughter Melody. Come on out Melody Dawn. 00:05:55.05\00:05:58.52 And we named her Melody in faith God would give her 00:05:59.02\00:06:01.90 musical abilities, and Dawn is the dawn of new music 00:06:02.00\00:06:05.68 in the Shelton family. So God has blessed. 00:06:05.88\00:06:08.14 Glad you're here, honey. Love you and all the babies. 00:06:08.44\00:06:10.63 All right. Thank you. 00:06:10.93\00:06:13.18 They say what doesn't kill us makes us strong. 00:06:28.99\00:06:34.69 And I've heard it's always darkest 00:06:36.09\00:06:39.20 before the dawn. 00:06:39.40\00:06:43.02 But all I know is that God's promises 00:06:43.42\00:06:48.07 are true, and He only wants 00:06:48.27\00:06:53.66 what's best for you. 00:06:53.87\00:06:57.03 We have this hope 00:06:57.23\00:06:59.93 that all hurting will be gone. 00:07:00.13\00:07:03.93 We have this hope 00:07:04.43\00:07:07.10 that all tears will be left behind. 00:07:07.30\00:07:11.77 I know down here life is hard 00:07:12.63\00:07:16.63 and the world is so unkind 00:07:16.93\00:07:20.24 but hold on because 00:07:20.54\00:07:22.99 we have this hope. 00:07:23.29\00:07:27.24 Every one of us has heartaches and trials. 00:07:30.84\00:07:36.62 Just remember we're only here for a short while. 00:07:38.20\00:07:44.17 Sometimes I feel I've had 00:07:45.85\00:07:48.47 more than my share, 00:07:48.68\00:07:53.02 but He won't give us more than we can bear. 00:07:53.32\00:07:59.24 We have this hope 00:07:59.54\00:08:02.13 that all hurting will be gone. 00:08:02.34\00:08:06.28 We have this hope 00:08:06.52\00:08:09.34 that all tears will be left behind. 00:08:09.74\00:08:13.88 I know down here life is hard 00:08:15.29\00:08:19.05 and the world is so unkind, 00:08:19.25\00:08:22.68 but hold on because 00:08:22.98\00:08:25.49 we have this hope. 00:08:25.69\00:08:29.14 And this hope for us 00:08:29.54\00:08:33.61 is Jesus! 00:08:33.81\00:08:39.76 So hold on because 00:08:42.92\00:08:45.75 we have this hope. 00:08:45.98\00:08:50.85 Amen. Amen! Thank you so much, Melody. 00:09:02.80\00:09:06.37 Wasn't that wonderful? Amen! That was wonderful! 00:09:06.77\00:09:09.85 Praise God! 00:09:10.90\00:09:12.72 I'm not exactly sure how I feel. 00:09:16.00\00:09:18.32 Danny was just here and said 00:09:23.16\00:09:26.21 "This is the last meeting. Tonight's the last meeting. 00:09:26.51\00:09:29.11 It's kind of sad. " Then he said: "Here's Lyle. " 00:09:29.31\00:09:31.43 It's true. They told me that camera'd add about 35 pounds. 00:09:51.41\00:09:55.69 It's true. 00:09:56.29\00:09:59.13 I've been invited to be here for Camp Meeting 00:10:03.31\00:10:06.34 on several occasions 00:10:06.74\00:10:08.95 but for the last several years - three or four - 00:10:09.35\00:10:13.26 we have had a grandson or granddaughter 00:10:13.67\00:10:18.06 graduating from church school 00:10:18.46\00:10:21.43 or from academy, and we have been to those 00:10:21.83\00:10:26.19 occasions certainly. Jesus comes first of all 00:10:26.29\00:10:29.74 and then my family. 00:10:29.94\00:10:33.83 By the way, my Peggy... Several of you have asked 00:10:36.46\00:10:39.08 about... She's great; 00:10:39.18\00:10:41.78 good health; beautiful. 00:10:42.18\00:10:44.98 That girl's hung with me for 54 years this July. 00:10:47.55\00:10:52.89 Can you imagine that? 00:10:53.09\00:10:55.37 Yeah... yeah. 00:10:55.67\00:10:58.27 Now I'm going to give you men some advice: 00:11:00.28\00:11:02.54 one thing that has helped our marriage to continue 00:11:02.84\00:11:05.91 has been I give the girl a lot of breathing room. 00:11:06.41\00:11:11.10 Yeah. I've told her again and again and again 00:11:12.46\00:11:16.52 "You're not locked in here. 00:11:16.75\00:11:19.49 I mean, I don't put you in a cage. 00:11:19.99\00:11:23.12 I'm not your keeper. 00:11:23.63\00:11:25.72 The door's open... you're free to go any time 00:11:26.23\00:11:28.96 but if you go I'm goin' with you. " 00:11:29.16\00:11:31.87 And I will. 00:11:36.36\00:11:37.87 She's like my American Express Card... 00:11:38.27\00:11:39.80 I don't leave home without her 00:11:39.90\00:11:41.44 except on rare occasions like this. 00:11:43.33\00:11:45.93 But I'll be back in her arms tomorrow. 00:11:46.23\00:11:49.25 So I alluded a bit ago to my kids going to school, 00:11:52.12\00:11:56.55 and I'm all in favor of that. 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.27 Help them anywhere I can. 00:11:58.47\00:12:00.57 And my appreciation of higher education 00:12:00.77\00:12:04.54 was indelibly impressed upon me by my Idaho neighbor 00:12:04.74\00:12:08.43 Bubba Hyder. And some of you have heard me 00:12:08.64\00:12:11.20 tell stories about him. He was as real as a heart attack. 00:12:11.30\00:12:15.02 He murdered the king's English. I mean he slaughtered it. 00:12:17.17\00:12:20.19 You've heard of double negatives? 00:12:20.49\00:12:22.99 He could use triple negatives. 00:12:23.30\00:12:25.58 They ain't never no mind and no use 00:12:25.88\00:12:28.27 and nothing and... 00:12:28.47\00:12:30.03 One time I said to him: "Bubba, you seem to take joy 00:12:30.33\00:12:32.79 in murdering the English. 00:12:32.99\00:12:35.45 I mean, it's like I've never heard before. " 00:12:35.55\00:12:38.58 Well he said: "I ain't had much education you know, Lyles. " 00:12:38.98\00:12:42.16 Called me Lyles. 00:12:42.26\00:12:43.93 "I ain't had that much education, Lyles, 00:12:46.46\00:12:48.82 seeing how I had to drop out during the third grade. " 00:12:49.03\00:12:54.47 I said: "Really Bubba? You did, really? " 00:12:54.67\00:12:57.39 "Yep. " "Did you get sick? Was that it? 00:12:57.69\00:13:00.92 Did you have to drop out of school to pull cotton? 00:13:01.12\00:13:04.02 What happened, Bubba?" "Oh, no, " he said, 00:13:04.12\00:13:05.86 "it was jury duty. " 00:13:06.06\00:13:09.21 Idaho for ya. 00:13:13.73\00:13:15.67 I was telling Idaho stories somewhere in mid-America 00:13:17.70\00:13:23.48 a while back. Born and raised there... I love it. 00:13:23.58\00:13:27.29 You have to know that. Those of you who've watched over the 00:13:27.50\00:13:31.34 years my programs, you know that. 00:13:31.44\00:13:33.19 I was sharing some Idaho stories, and afterward 00:13:36.37\00:13:39.48 a young lady I assume to be around 35 years caught me 00:13:39.68\00:13:44.10 out in the hall and she said: "I want to go on record 00:13:44.20\00:13:48.21 to tell you I don't appreciate your Idaho stories. " 00:13:48.41\00:13:51.03 And I said: "Well the joke's on me. I am an Idahoan 00:13:53.53\00:13:56.15 and I'm just really kind of putting myself down 00:13:56.25\00:13:58.81 when I do this kind of thing. 00:13:59.01\00:14:00.69 But if I've said anything at all that hurt you I'm sorry. 00:14:01.19\00:14:04.54 You have my honest and sincere apology. " 00:14:04.74\00:14:07.83 "By the way, " I asked, "what part of Idaho are you from? " 00:14:08.23\00:14:12.38 Said: "Are you crazy? I'm from Colorado! " 00:14:12.78\00:14:15.20 Now I was assigned a scripture 00:14:25.33\00:14:28.31 from Matthew's gospel chapter 24. 00:14:30.06\00:14:32.83 And my good friend Jim Gilley alluded to that a bit ago. 00:14:33.13\00:14:38.42 And I know that I'm not the first one to use it 00:14:39.22\00:14:41.42 during this Camp Meeting series. 00:14:41.62\00:14:43.87 I shall be the last, however. 00:14:43.97\00:14:46.02 And when my dear friend Walter Pearson began to speak 00:14:49.84\00:14:53.13 this morning he started off with Matthew 24:14. 00:14:53.34\00:14:57.24 And then he transitioned to another thought that I was 00:14:58.57\00:15:01.65 going to share and I said to myself: "He's going to preach 00:15:01.75\00:15:04.46 my whole sermon. " And I think he would've 00:15:04.56\00:15:05.99 but I prayed him off of it! 00:15:06.09\00:15:08.26 By the way, I listen to him preach still to this day. 00:15:09.61\00:15:14.12 C.D. Brooks. Ummh! 00:15:18.17\00:15:21.75 And I say to myself: "Why do you still try? " 00:15:22.77\00:15:26.02 I'll keep trying. 00:15:29.80\00:15:31.44 The greatest preacher... The great preachers of 00:15:31.64\00:15:34.76 the last 50 years of the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:15:34.96\00:15:39.05 have been our black brethren. Amen! 00:15:39.45\00:15:43.07 And I say that without apology. 00:15:44.99\00:15:50.37 And the highest compliment I think I've ever been paid 00:15:51.99\00:15:55.09 was when I was somewhere down in south Alabama 00:15:55.29\00:15:58.23 and a black lady came to me 00:15:58.63\00:16:02.19 after a sermon. She said: "Brother Lyle, 00:16:02.39\00:16:05.25 you're a reverse Oreo. " 00:16:05.55\00:16:07.96 I said: "What do you mean? " 00:16:13.64\00:16:14.75 She said: "You may be white on the outside 00:16:14.95\00:16:17.05 but you's black inside. " 00:16:17.15\00:16:19.34 Suits me. 00:16:24.27\00:16:25.87 Now I want to talk to you 00:16:37.92\00:16:39.72 about our Lord Jesus 00:16:40.12\00:16:42.77 and the idea of His invitations and His commands 00:16:44.74\00:16:50.61 "Come, " and "Go, " and "Come again. " 00:16:50.91\00:16:56.39 So you have your Bibles open now to Matthew's gospel 00:16:56.42\00:16:59.76 chapter 24. Matthew chapter 24 and Luke chapters 17 and 21 00:16:59.86\00:17:04.21 are an answer to the disciples' question: "Lord, tell us 00:17:04.41\00:17:07.28 what it's going to be like just before You come the 2nd time. " 00:17:07.38\00:17:09.73 And Jesus said: "It's going to be like this and this and this. 00:17:10.13\00:17:12.88 And when you see these things begin to happen then know 00:17:13.18\00:17:16.22 that My coming is near... even at the door. " 00:17:16.42\00:17:19.32 Here's one of the requirements He laid down. 00:17:21.71\00:17:24.97 Before He could come He said this... 00:17:25.28\00:17:27.88 chapter 24 and verse 14: 00:17:28.28\00:17:31.85 "This good news about My kingdom 00:17:33.30\00:17:36.98 must be preached in all the world for a witness to all 00:17:37.99\00:17:40.96 nations and then the end will come. " 00:17:41.06\00:17:46.08 "This wonderful truth about My righteousness and My love 00:17:48.87\00:17:51.92 and My grace and My mercy 00:17:52.02\00:17:53.70 has to go to... It has to go to Tennessee, 00:17:54.01\00:17:59.57 and it has to go to Texas 00:17:59.87\00:18:03.39 and it has to go to Iowa and it has to go to Idaho 00:18:03.69\00:18:06.91 and it has to go to India and it has to go to the whole world. " 00:18:07.11\00:18:10.17 So Jesus gives this commandment. 00:18:12.97\00:18:16.93 By the way, that's exactly what it is. 00:18:17.14\00:18:18.52 Some have referred to it as the eleventh commandment. 00:18:18.72\00:18:20.68 And there is another verse that goes with it exegetically 00:18:20.88\00:18:23.65 and hermeneutically and Biblically. 00:18:23.85\00:18:25.45 I don't know what that means 00:18:25.75\00:18:28.15 but the scholars do, and that is the verse from 00:18:29.72\00:18:32.25 chapter 28 verses 19 and 20. 00:18:32.45\00:18:34.61 Of course you know that. Go into the whole world, 00:18:34.81\00:18:37.02 preach the gospel, and do what else? 00:18:37.22\00:18:38.99 Baptize... and then keep on teaching. 00:18:39.39\00:18:43.32 "And lo, I'll be with you to the ends of the earth... 00:18:44.42\00:18:48.44 the end of the world. " 00:18:48.74\00:18:50.03 So He calls these twelve men. 00:18:50.54\00:18:53.79 Very ordinary men they were. 00:18:54.29\00:18:57.62 And I thought this: "You know, if you were starting a business, 00:18:58.38\00:19:01.24 and you had put out in the various public places 00:19:01.54\00:19:05.32 some application forms, and these guys got ahold of them 00:19:05.42\00:19:08.98 and filled them out and then mailed them to you 00:19:09.18\00:19:11.52 or brought them to you, you wouldn't give them an interview. 00:19:11.62\00:19:14.61 You'd say: "Well thank you very much. 00:19:14.81\00:19:16.74 Don't call us; we'll call you. " And you drop it in the circular 00:19:17.04\00:19:20.43 file. You wouldn't have wanted one of them 00:19:20.53\00:19:23.90 but Jesus did. There was Simon Peter, 00:19:24.20\00:19:29.03 the man who cried out... " By the way, not so very long ago 00:19:29.43\00:19:31.65 I preached a whole series of sermons. 00:19:31.75\00:19:33.55 I began to study the lives of the disciples 00:19:33.75\00:19:35.60 for my own spiritual edification. 00:19:35.80\00:19:37.81 I found myself in a little bit of a... Ah, I don't want to say 00:19:38.21\00:19:42.15 depression. Down a bit. 00:19:42.35\00:19:47.02 I'd looked in the mirror. 00:19:49.40\00:19:51.26 And so I'd say: "Well, these men were just men as well. " 00:19:55.03\00:19:58.85 And so I began to study. 00:19:58.95\00:20:00.12 I read through the gospel record through the book of Acts 00:20:00.32\00:20:03.38 and then I read The Desire of Ages 00:20:03.58\00:20:05.92 and the other wonderful things that Ellen White had written 00:20:06.02\00:20:08.64 about the disciples. And then because I was still so hungry 00:20:08.74\00:20:12.08 I went to the Christian bookstore - used book stores 00:20:12.18\00:20:15.10 there in Grand Rapids, MI - and I bought about 30 volumes 00:20:15.30\00:20:19.76 on the lives and times of disciples. 00:20:19.86\00:20:22.20 And what God was sharing with me was so good that I decided 00:20:22.40\00:20:24.95 I need to share it with others. 00:20:25.05\00:20:26.29 And so I've titled that little series The Master's Men. 00:20:26.49\00:20:29.52 There was Simon Peter, the man who cried out loud, 00:20:29.65\00:20:31.54 and there was Andrew, the first home missionary, 00:20:34.65\00:20:36.80 the first foreign missionary. 00:20:36.90\00:20:38.53 There was Matthew... the man from the IRS, 00:20:40.04\00:20:43.02 and there was Thomas... the man from Missouri. 00:20:43.42\00:20:47.75 Had to be "showed. " 00:20:48.15\00:20:50.54 So Jesus takes these very ordinary men 00:20:51.99\00:20:54.35 and He empowers them with the Holy Spirit. 00:20:54.56\00:20:56.87 His disciples... that means He taught them, 00:20:57.17\00:21:00.16 and then after they had been schooled He sent them out. 00:21:00.47\00:21:04.15 That means He apostled them... sent them out. 00:21:04.45\00:21:06.45 "Now I've taught you. Now you go and share 00:21:06.65\00:21:08.06 what I've taught with others. Go... go now. " 00:21:08.16\00:21:10.92 And they went out and they began to turn the world upside down 00:21:11.22\00:21:13.97 for Jesus as the devil got mad. And I want to tell you folks 00:21:14.07\00:21:16.51 when the gospel is being preached still today the devil 00:21:16.72\00:21:18.90 gets mad! He gets mad. 00:21:19.00\00:21:22.12 Now some have been telling me here about what's happened to 00:21:22.62\00:21:25.33 some of my friends... some of my favorite preachers 00:21:25.43\00:21:28.15 and just other friends and how the devil has come down on them 00:21:28.25\00:21:31.67 with illnesses and maladies and death in the families... 00:21:31.88\00:21:34.43 various things. The devil is angry 00:21:34.64\00:21:37.44 when God's Word is being shared. 00:21:37.54\00:21:39.34 And he's mad here during this Camp Meeting, you can be certain 00:21:39.55\00:21:41.50 about that. And if he hasn't jumped on you today 00:21:41.60\00:21:44.08 he's going to do it on the way home. 00:21:44.28\00:21:46.09 So be careful... he might use your wife... maybe... 00:21:46.30\00:21:51.84 Probably not. 00:21:52.18\00:21:54.08 Empowered with the Holy Spirit these disciples went out 00:21:56.50\00:21:58.77 and preached and then they did miracles just like Jesus did. 00:21:59.07\00:22:03.82 Opening blinded eyes and straightening twisted, withered 00:22:04.33\00:22:06.74 limbs and comforting hurting hearts. 00:22:06.84\00:22:08.65 And by the way, when they reported back in Luke chapter 10 00:22:08.95\00:22:11.98 it's quite obvious that even Judas was given this power. 00:22:12.18\00:22:15.19 Remarkable, isn't it now? 00:22:15.49\00:22:17.02 And that says that God will use any man that's willing 00:22:17.32\00:22:19.23 to be used... as long as he keeps his eyes on Jesus. 00:22:19.33\00:22:23.69 Exciting! "Take this good news to the world 00:22:26.39\00:22:29.00 and then I'll be back and we'll never be separated ever again. " 00:22:29.40\00:22:32.94 And that, by the way, is what heaven's all about, isn't it? 00:22:33.15\00:22:36.04 Never be separated again. I hold these meetings... 00:22:36.34\00:22:38.74 I've done about 201 of them now. 00:22:39.04\00:22:40.71 They last at least a month. 00:22:40.81\00:22:42.11 Somebody said: "When are you going to retire by the way? " 00:22:42.21\00:22:44.88 And I said: "When I can no longer climb the stairs, 00:22:45.12\00:22:47.84 that's when. " As long as God gives me a voice 00:22:47.95\00:22:51.00 and folks'll listen, I'm going to preach the good news. 00:22:51.20\00:22:54.09 I want Him so to come back. Amen! 00:22:54.19\00:22:57.49 So they went out; preached their hearts out. 00:22:58.90\00:23:03.48 And then He whom they believed was to be their earthly King 00:23:04.70\00:23:10.15 and within a few days or weeks at best 00:23:10.35\00:23:12.52 is crucified, and their hearts are broken. 00:23:12.62\00:23:14.47 Now you imagine with me. They've gone into hiding because 00:23:14.77\00:23:18.32 they are fearful that their own lives are going to be taken. 00:23:18.42\00:23:20.34 And He's in a tomb. Their dreams are shattered. 00:23:21.31\00:23:25.18 Brokenhearted they are. 00:23:26.73\00:23:28.48 And then on Sunday morning 00:23:28.98\00:23:32.57 there comes a voice from heaven: "Jesus, it's time to get up! " 00:23:34.18\00:23:38.40 And the stone is rolled away with unseen hands 00:23:38.80\00:23:41.36 and Jesus comes standing in the portal of the tomb. 00:23:41.66\00:23:44.15 He's alive forevermore! 00:23:44.35\00:23:46.07 But now I want you to notice something: 00:23:46.37\00:23:47.73 there are 101 men. There is a centurion. 00:23:48.03\00:23:51.60 That means he's in charge of 100 Roman soldiers 00:23:51.70\00:23:54.40 and they've been standing through the night trying to make 00:23:54.60\00:23:56.71 sure He stays in there. 00:23:56.82\00:23:58.37 And now they're flat on their backs in the dirt. 00:23:58.67\00:24:00.50 They're paralyzed... but they can see. 00:24:00.70\00:24:02.77 And He just turns and walks away. 00:24:03.07\00:24:04.96 Now... heartbroken on Friday night and on Sabbath. 00:24:06.79\00:24:11.91 And Jesus gets up on Sunday morning and goes to work. 00:24:12.95\00:24:16.41 Oh what a difference a Sabbath can make! 00:24:16.51\00:24:18.83 Amen! Praise God for the Sabbath. Amen! 00:24:19.14\00:24:21.87 So Jesus is alive, and they go out now 00:24:22.21\00:24:25.79 after they've gotten things together with Pentecostal power. 00:24:25.99\00:24:28.83 And they begin to preach again with great, great passion. 00:24:29.13\00:24:33.26 They did it, by the way, without computers 00:24:34.48\00:24:37.69 and without modern technology. 00:24:37.99\00:24:40.42 Even did it without these wonderful microphones 00:24:40.62\00:24:42.96 we're able to have nowadays. I want to share with you 00:24:43.06\00:24:44.85 a little bit of a story. How much time? Oh, I have time 00:24:44.95\00:24:47.56 for this story... maybe another one. 00:24:47.66\00:24:49.15 I have a clock right down here and they told me to watch that 00:24:49.65\00:24:52.05 clock. We had, out in the Pacific Northwest, 00:24:52.15\00:24:56.98 a wonderful Seventh-day Adventist worker of many many 00:24:57.18\00:25:00.68 years. He'd been an adminis- trator, pastor, evangelist. 00:25:00.78\00:25:04.00 And I must say I admired him. He must remain tonight nameless. 00:25:04.10\00:25:07.37 But he was really in favor of a lot of multimedia. 00:25:08.36\00:25:12.09 That's what it was called when it was first used, oh, 30 or so 00:25:12.12\00:25:16.22 years ago. And a lot of my fellow evangelists 00:25:16.42\00:25:19.25 had 17 projectors, 14 slide projectors, 00:25:19.45\00:25:25.16 and three movie projectors and five big screens. 00:25:25.19\00:25:29.74 And this man was really in favor of that. In fact, 00:25:31.56\00:25:33.68 he was producing material to be used in these kinds of programs. 00:25:33.88\00:25:38.11 And I didn't have any of that. 00:25:38.82\00:25:41.83 And some of the folks began to refer to me 00:25:43.17\00:25:46.47 as a suitcase evangelist. Said: "Old Lyle can take 00:25:46.67\00:25:48.88 all of his evangelism equipment in one suitcase. " 00:25:48.98\00:25:51.16 And so this man - this senior worker - 00:25:53.02\00:25:55.80 seemed to enjoy getting me in front of a crowd 00:25:56.10\00:25:59.22 and then kind of ribbing me a little bit 00:25:59.52\00:26:02.64 about not having multimedia. 00:26:02.84\00:26:04.92 And he'd tell me: "a picture is worth a thousand words, 00:26:05.23\00:26:07.40 Lyle. When are you ever going to come into the modern century? " 00:26:07.50\00:26:09.91 And he just needled me and needled me. 00:26:10.21\00:26:12.81 And one day I felt like I'd had enough. And he had me 00:26:13.01\00:26:15.07 in a group of mostly preachers but not entirely 00:26:15.17\00:26:18.00 and he was really kind of laying it on. 00:26:18.10\00:26:20.50 And I kind of "fuzzed up" a little bit and I said: 00:26:20.90\00:26:23.54 "Listen brother, if a man needs a crutch 00:26:23.74\00:26:26.68 he sure ought to use it. " 00:26:26.88\00:26:28.83 But I said: "If on the other hand 00:26:29.83\00:26:32.63 a man can take his Bible and just preach 00:26:33.03\00:26:37.66 and still hold the attention of some of the folks at least 00:26:38.17\00:26:40.98 I don't see what's wrong with that! " 00:26:41.18\00:26:42.91 "Oh, " he said, "I didn't mean to upset you. " 00:26:43.21\00:26:45.03 I said: "Oh, you didn't... much... much. " 00:26:45.33\00:26:49.82 And so here are these disciples now. 00:26:56.02\00:26:57.87 They've gotten it all together empowered with the Holy Spirit. 00:26:57.97\00:27:00.25 But what a commission! What a job! What a responsibility! 00:27:00.55\00:27:04.35 To go into the whole world. But God had put some plans 00:27:04.55\00:27:08.23 in place in advance. He gave them 101 eyewitnesses 00:27:08.43\00:27:13.65 to the glorious truth that Jesus was alive. 00:27:13.85\00:27:16.09 Now here they are, you see: 101 Roman soldiers. 00:27:16.39\00:27:18.91 They're conscripts. They've been drafted from the 00:27:19.11\00:27:20.98 whole of the known Roman Empire. 00:27:21.09\00:27:22.88 It's their job to keep Him in place. 00:27:23.08\00:27:25.12 And all the devil accomplishes now is to put 101 eyewitnesses 00:27:25.42\00:27:29.24 to the truth He's alive! 00:27:29.44\00:27:30.98 Now watch: these conscripts went home 00:27:31.18\00:27:34.83 after their commission was finished. 00:27:35.04\00:27:37.23 They went back to the various parts of the Roman Empire 00:27:37.53\00:27:40.73 and you can be certain that they called in the folks 00:27:41.04\00:27:43.92 from across the street, the folks across the backyard fence, 00:27:44.02\00:27:46.98 and they called in family members: uncles and aunts, 00:27:47.18\00:27:49.36 grandpas and grandmas, and they told them 00:27:49.56\00:27:51.83 "I was on duty. We guarded the corpse. 00:27:52.03\00:27:54.93 We thought He was a nobody 00:27:55.13\00:27:56.82 and I'll tell you: on Sunday morning the world changed! 00:27:57.32\00:28:02.34 He's out there; Jesus is alive! He's out there somewhere. " 00:28:02.75\00:28:08.65 The apostle Paul, before he finished his life, could say 00:28:09.80\00:28:13.32 and he said it as he wrote to Rome and also to the church 00:28:13.53\00:28:15.96 at Colossae, he said: "The gospel has now gone to 00:28:16.06\00:28:19.31 every place that men are known working and living in number. 00:28:19.41\00:28:22.00 It's gone to the whole world. " 00:28:22.21\00:28:23.57 Yeah... and they had no Walter Pearson 00:28:23.97\00:28:29.86 and they had no Mark Finley. They had no 3ABN. 00:28:30.26\00:28:32.72 But they had the power of the Holy Spirit of God. Amen! 00:28:33.03\00:28:36.75 And so Jesus said: "Go, Peter... go. " 00:28:36.88\00:28:39.37 "Go Paul... you go and take Silas with you. " 00:28:39.77\00:28:42.68 And "Go John. " "You go, Andrew. Go, go. " 00:28:42.98\00:28:46.17 And then God's clock struck a prophetic hour 00:28:46.60\00:28:49.93 and God raised up a movement 00:28:50.14\00:28:53.19 called Seventh-day Adventists. 00:28:53.39\00:28:56.39 And He said: "You have a special responsibility now 00:28:58.53\00:29:01.63 in these last days. You have a special message, 00:29:01.83\00:29:03.87 a timely message. Now you go as well! " 00:29:03.97\00:29:06.27 And so James and Ellen White went. 00:29:06.77\00:29:09.87 And then God said to J.N. Andrews: "I want you to go. 00:29:11.09\00:29:13.39 I want you to go over to Europe. 00:29:13.79\00:29:15.36 Oh, you might begin over there in Port Au Peluche among 00:29:15.57\00:29:17.31 the Waldensians. They're honest folks. " And so he did. 00:29:17.41\00:29:19.47 First Adventists in Europe were to be found there 00:29:19.67\00:29:23.16 in Port Au Peluche. We have a church there still. 00:29:23.36\00:29:25.33 Some of you perhaps have been there. "Go. " 00:29:25.53\00:29:27.67 "Go" said God. 00:29:27.87\00:29:29.39 And then as time drew on God said: "It's time 00:29:29.79\00:29:35.29 that I have some additional help... that I give you 00:29:35.39\00:29:39.44 some additional tools. " 00:29:39.74\00:29:41.24 And so he said to a guy by the name of Danny Shelton 00:29:42.63\00:29:44.71 "Get off that roof... put your hammer down 00:29:44.91\00:29:46.55 and go looking for a place where they have 3-phase power. 00:29:46.75\00:29:49.58 It's time to take this thing electronically to the world. " 00:29:49.88\00:29:52.41 Praise God! Amen! 00:29:52.71\00:29:55.05 And by the way, it's not too late to put in a little 00:29:55.55\00:29:58.97 extra offering. You can do that when you leave tonight. 00:29:59.07\00:30:00.86 Nobody'll mind. 00:30:01.06\00:30:02.16 But I want to tell you... 00:30:02.46\00:30:03.49 I'm going to now begin to tell you some thrilling stories 00:30:03.67\00:30:05.85 as a result of this ministry. 00:30:07.34\00:30:10.10 God said... Let me back up just a little bit 00:30:12.84\00:30:15.35 because this is important. 00:30:15.55\00:30:17.03 God said in 1948 to a Seventh- day Adventist book salesman 00:30:18.25\00:30:24.19 we call it colporteur. Can any of you remember 00:30:24.39\00:30:26.31 when they were colporteurs? All right! 00:30:26.51\00:30:28.67 As long as children pray I guess there'll be: "God bless 00:30:28.98\00:30:31.23 the missionaries and colporteurs. " 00:30:31.33\00:30:32.97 They said: "Brother Hayes, I want you to go out in a little 00:30:34.06\00:30:35.86 town of Fairfield, Idaho. 00:30:35.96\00:30:38.42 I want you to go right in the bar 00:30:38.82\00:30:41.64 and sign Walter Albrecht up 00:30:41.94\00:30:45.49 for Voice of Prophecy Bible lessons. Go, Bro. Hayes. " 00:30:45.89\00:30:50.82 And Bro. Hayes went. 00:30:51.16\00:30:53.18 And then years later God said to an evangelist 00:30:54.86\00:30:58.47 by the name of Glen Ofterhar: "Go to Baker City, Oregon. " 00:30:58.67\00:31:01.43 It was only just Baker back then. 00:31:01.73\00:31:03.52 "And take your singing evangelist Sunny Liu with you. 00:31:04.03\00:31:07.11 and I want you and Sunny to go and talk to Lyle Albrecht. 00:31:07.51\00:31:11.50 See if you can't use him to sing for your meetings. " 00:31:11.70\00:31:17.32 "Go. " And then He said to Lyle and Peggy: "Take your 00:31:17.55\00:31:21.47 two little kids and go on over to Walla Walla University 00:31:21.57\00:31:24.12 and do your four years' work there and then go to Andrews 00:31:24.42\00:31:27.01 University. Go. " And so we went. 00:31:27.11\00:31:30.18 And almost immediately God called us into full-time 00:31:32.62\00:31:34.68 evangelism. God said: "Lyle, Peggy: go down to 00:31:34.78\00:31:39.06 Warner-Robbins, Georgia, and rent a school auditorium. 00:31:39.16\00:31:43.69 And we did that. 00:31:44.39\00:31:46.50 We mailed out handbills and posters and all kinds 00:31:48.00\00:31:52.58 of things, but the meeting that night was a bit like 00:31:52.68\00:31:58.54 one Walter Pearson described... you know. 00:31:58.74\00:32:02.33 Look out in a hall that could seat several hundred and see... 00:32:02.63\00:32:04.93 yeah... maybe 20. 00:32:05.14\00:32:07.58 And several of those were church members there from the Macon, 00:32:08.83\00:32:11.44 Georgia, Warner-Robbins, Georgia, area. 00:32:11.54\00:32:13.39 But among the guests there was a man and his wife, middle-aged 00:32:14.68\00:32:16.76 folks, and they were every night, every night 00:32:16.96\00:32:18.76 in the same place. Every night they were there. 00:32:18.86\00:32:20.56 I decided I'd better go visit those folks. 00:32:20.79\00:32:22.51 And I did. I discovered they lived next door to a 00:32:23.57\00:32:26.42 Southern Baptist church. 00:32:26.62\00:32:28.41 And I visited with them. I discovered that Bill Thompson 00:32:28.81\00:32:32.38 was the pastor of the Southern Baptist church 00:32:32.58\00:32:34.81 and my heart sank. "Oh, it's my only interest 00:32:35.01\00:32:38.41 and he's a Southern Baptist preacher. " 00:32:38.51\00:32:40.22 They just kept coming. I presented the Sabbath message 00:32:40.62\00:32:43.09 and I went to visit him. I said: "Brother Bill, what'd 00:32:43.29\00:32:45.02 you think? " He said: "I think it's one of the most beautiful 00:32:45.12\00:32:46.57 things I've ever heard. " 00:32:46.67\00:32:48.21 I preached on the state of the dead. 00:32:50.34\00:32:52.19 I thought: "I'm going to lose him. " 00:32:52.39\00:32:53.58 I went and visited with him. I said: "What'd you? " 00:32:54.58\00:32:56.12 He said: "I think it's the most peaceful, wonderful thing 00:32:56.32\00:32:58.63 I've ever heard. " At the end of those meetings 00:32:58.74\00:33:02.29 I baptized Bill and his wife in the Warner-Robbins church 00:33:02.49\00:33:05.80 baptistery. Amen! And he said: "I must go now. " 00:33:05.90\00:33:10.20 Said: "I've had it too easy up until now. I've got to go! " 00:33:10.60\00:33:13.15 And so he moved back to his home country in central Oklahoma 00:33:13.35\00:33:16.85 and began to hold Revelation seminars. 00:33:17.05\00:33:19.53 And about every month he would write me or phone me: 00:33:19.93\00:33:22.30 "Lyle, where's this article? Where is this scripture? 00:33:22.41\00:33:24.66 Where's that statement? Where can I find this? " 00:33:24.86\00:33:26.82 God said: "Go... Go Lyle, go. " And then He said: 00:33:28.05\00:33:31.44 "Bill, you go... " and Bill went. 00:33:31.64\00:33:33.97 Then because of that experience 00:33:35.87\00:33:40.90 I was invited by my then president... 00:33:41.10\00:33:44.64 I was the union conference evangelist of Southern Union. 00:33:44.74\00:33:47.47 I followed Kenneth Cox there when he went to Mid-America, 00:33:47.57\00:33:50.62 to Central America rather. 00:33:50.82\00:33:53.02 And during that same year that Bill and his wife were baptized 00:33:54.37\00:33:58.59 we baptized two other Protestant pastors 00:33:58.89\00:34:02.14 with very different backgrounds. 00:34:02.34\00:34:04.55 And my then president Al McClure - who later went 00:34:04.95\00:34:08.12 to the North American Division said: "I want you to fly 00:34:08.32\00:34:11.89 in to our Camp Meeting at Southern College 00:34:12.09\00:34:15.72 and tell about this experience of baptizing these preachers 00:34:15.92\00:34:19.54 then we'll raise some evangelism offering. " 00:34:19.94\00:34:23.12 And I said: "Chief, I'm concluding 00:34:23.62\00:34:28.89 down here in Atlanta a meeting on that Sabbath 00:34:29.09\00:34:34.14 and I'm teaching a Bible class at 9:30 AM 00:34:34.44\00:34:38.37 and I'm preaching at 11 o'clock. 00:34:38.57\00:34:40.57 And at 6 o'clock we're going to have a review of what we've been 00:34:40.77\00:34:44.33 teaching and at 7 o'clock we're going to begin to baptize 00:34:44.43\00:34:47.66 about 40 folks. " I said: "I don't see how 00:34:47.76\00:34:51.19 I can be here and bind off this meeting 00:34:51.39\00:34:54.60 and be up at the Camp Meeting at the college. " 00:34:54.80\00:34:58.04 Said: "Lyle, I'll work it out for you. 00:34:59.28\00:35:01.16 I'll work it all out for you. " He said: "I know a man 00:35:01.56\00:35:03.78 who is a pilot. " I said: "Is he a good pilot? " 00:35:03.98\00:35:07.04 "Oh, " he said, "he's an instrument pilot. This man 00:35:07.14\00:35:09.76 has ferried airplanes across the big waters. 00:35:09.96\00:35:13.46 Yes indeed. " Now he said: "Here's the plan: 00:35:13.66\00:35:16.33 you preach on Sabbath morning but instead of going to 00:35:16.73\00:35:19.71 the... " By the way, folks. I have an issue about this. 00:35:19.81\00:35:22.92 You know this if you've been to my meetings. 00:35:23.02\00:35:24.87 We don't in the Adventist churches have potluck... 00:35:25.07\00:35:28.14 we have fellowship lunch. 00:35:28.34\00:35:30.33 And I'll harp on it as long as I have a voice. 00:35:30.83\00:35:32.98 Potluck sounds like you're going to a casino and gambling with 00:35:33.18\00:35:35.66 ptomaine poisoning. We have fellowship lunch. 00:35:35.76\00:35:39.23 So he said: "You don't have to go to that fellowship lunch. " 00:35:43.23\00:35:45.89 He said: "You shorten your sermon a little bit" 00:35:46.49\00:35:48.50 and he said "I'll have this pilot in a car waiting 00:35:48.70\00:35:51.05 and there'll be an airplane out at the field waiting. 00:35:51.25\00:35:54.21 And he'll fly you up there, and you just speak for 15 minutes. 00:35:54.41\00:35:59.39 He'll fly you back. He'll have you back by 6 o'clock. " 00:35:59.59\00:36:02.18 Now Peggy and our youngest - our boy Troy - was still with us 00:36:02.78\00:36:06.40 and they were down in Atlanta. 00:36:06.61\00:36:09.05 And so I shortened the sermon 00:36:09.45\00:36:12.22 to about an hour and a half. 00:36:12.52\00:36:15.02 And I ran out and here was this man 00:36:20.44\00:36:22.60 and a 13-year-old granddaughter. 00:36:22.80\00:36:26.21 And we raced out to the airport 00:36:26.41\00:36:28.69 and he did a quick walk around and then he got in 00:36:28.99\00:36:33.17 and got the microphone and keyed it 00:36:33.47\00:36:36.55 and said: "This is Charlie Fox blah-blah-blah-blah 00:36:36.75\00:36:38.76 asking for clearance for take-off. " 00:36:39.06\00:36:41.43 And there was nothing. 00:36:41.83\00:36:43.58 And he waited a few seconds then he did it again... 00:36:45.33\00:36:47.52 and there was nothing but silence. 00:36:47.72\00:36:49.22 And he looked at his watch and he cranked that airplane up 00:36:49.52\00:36:54.73 and we took off. 00:36:54.93\00:36:56.76 No radio. Now we got up around Chattanooga 00:36:57.16\00:37:01.13 and there were storm clouds. In fact the skies this afternoon 00:37:01.33\00:37:04.15 reminded me of the story that I'm telling you right now. 00:37:04.25\00:37:07.19 Those big old thunder clouds filled with electricity and all. 00:37:07.39\00:37:10.32 And so we had to fly around them and fly around them, 00:37:10.62\00:37:12.89 fly around them. And I noticed, I'd worked Chattanooga before 00:37:12.92\00:37:16.41 that holding meetings in there, and I knew the city fairly well. 00:37:16.51\00:37:19.03 And I saw when we flew by Chattanooga and headed out 00:37:19.23\00:37:22.27 to Collegedale, Tennessee. 00:37:22.48\00:37:24.21 And we got out into that area 00:37:24.51\00:37:27.05 and that pilot began to look for the runway. 00:37:27.25\00:37:30.33 He began to look and he had me looking. 00:37:30.53\00:37:32.98 And he had his granddaughter looking. 00:37:33.28\00:37:35.43 And then he said: "I'm going to have to tip her up. " 00:37:35.93\00:37:40.12 And he tipped that airplane up on this side. I mean, 00:37:40.32\00:37:42.35 he really banked it and we flew around in circles 00:37:42.55\00:37:44.79 a couple of times. And then he banked it the other way 00:37:44.89\00:37:48.12 and we flew around circles that way. 00:37:48.23\00:37:49.82 I said: "I'm getting sick. " 00:37:57.26\00:37:58.70 He said: "But the real problem is 00:38:02.35\00:38:05.43 I'm really sick. " 00:38:05.73\00:38:09.21 I said: "That's a problem... that IS a problem! " 00:38:09.61\00:38:13.30 And by now his granddaughter right behind us is crying: 00:38:17.01\00:38:19.90 "We're going to crash. I know we're going to crash... 00:38:20.10\00:38:21.49 I know we're going to crash. " 00:38:21.89\00:38:23.76 By now it's 3 o'clock. I was to be on the platform 00:38:23.96\00:38:26.00 telling these stories at three o'clock and now it's 3 o'clock. 00:38:26.20\00:38:29.45 Said: "Well I just can't find it, " and he says "I'm getting 00:38:31.18\00:38:33.95 kind of... I don't know where I'm at. " 00:38:34.15\00:38:37.05 And I said: "Well I know where we are. 00:38:37.25\00:38:38.45 I know at least that much. " 00:38:38.48\00:38:39.95 "You turn this thing around, " I said. "I know right how we can 00:38:40.25\00:38:42.85 find the Chattanooga airport. We're going to land in 00:38:42.95\00:38:44.82 Chattanooga. We're going to get out; we're going to get 00:38:44.92\00:38:47.19 a drink of water; we're going to walk around a little bit. " 00:38:47.29\00:38:49.64 And so we did. And so we come back into Chattanooga 00:38:49.95\00:38:53.18 and he's on that radio: "Chattanooga, this is foxtrot 00:38:53.38\00:38:57.12 number 9-er 9-er um, um, um, um. " 00:38:57.23\00:38:58.83 Silence... and so we just dove right in and landed. 00:38:59.03\00:39:03.78 We taxied over to the hangar 00:39:04.28\00:39:06.83 and before we got there there came running out 00:39:07.03\00:39:08.95 a man, and his face was white and he was shaking his fist 00:39:09.05\00:39:12.08 and he was using some language that I won't be able to use 00:39:12.28\00:39:14.45 here tonight. You folks wouldn't understand it anyway. 00:39:14.55\00:39:17.17 And he said: "You crazy... " He said " Do you know what 00:39:20.34\00:39:22.67 you've just done? You just dropped in in front 00:39:22.77\00:39:25.64 of a 727 jet loaded with passengers. 00:39:25.84\00:39:28.74 He had to pull up and go around. " 00:39:28.94\00:39:30.62 And my skilled pilot said: "Sir, I tried to talk to you 00:39:34.16\00:39:37.91 but you wouldn't talk back to me. " 00:39:38.11\00:39:39.96 And this guy reached in and pulled the jack out 00:39:40.26\00:39:42.98 and plugged it in between the seats. "Now, " he said, 00:39:43.18\00:39:45.28 "see if that won't work. " And it did! 00:39:45.48\00:39:47.32 So... so I asked: "Would you mind if we'd get out 00:39:54.16\00:39:59.72 and walk around a little and maybe go in and get a drink? " 00:39:59.92\00:40:04.26 He said: "Don't get out of my sight. " So we did that 00:40:04.76\00:40:09.62 for about a half hour. Now in the meantime you must know 00:40:09.82\00:40:12.15 my Peggy is back in Atlanta 00:40:12.35\00:40:15.10 and they have called from Camp Meeting and said: 00:40:15.30\00:40:16.66 "They never showed up and there's bad weather around. " 00:40:16.76\00:40:19.37 Um-hmm. 00:40:20.61\00:40:22.26 So after about 1/2 hour, and I knew that I had barely 00:40:27.56\00:40:31.13 enough time if we had good weather to get back to Atlanta 00:40:31.23\00:40:34.50 for my baptism program, 00:40:34.70\00:40:37.54 we got in and taxied out. 00:40:37.94\00:40:41.00 And this 727 jet 00:40:42.58\00:40:47.08 was on the end of the runway 00:40:47.48\00:40:49.85 getting ready to leave, and now our radio was working. 00:40:50.15\00:40:52.98 And I heard the pilot of that jet say to the tower 00:40:53.48\00:40:57.15 "Is that that Piper Cub? " 00:40:57.45\00:41:03.12 And the tower said: "Affirmative. " 00:41:05.13\00:41:08.15 He said: "You tell that fool to get on out of here. " 00:41:10.17\00:41:12.21 He said: "I'm not going to move a wheel 00:41:12.31\00:41:13.36 till he's out of my sight. " 00:41:13.46\00:41:15.09 And that, by the way, is the last time I've ever taken an 00:41:17.24\00:41:19.32 airplane ride in one of those little airplanes. 00:41:19.42\00:41:20.95 I fly in the big airplanes when I have to. 00:41:21.06\00:41:23.30 Like I did yesterday; like I will do tomorrow. 00:41:23.50\00:41:25.36 You've heard of flyers that are white-knuckle flyers? 00:41:26.06\00:41:29.11 Kind of when they take off and when they land 00:41:29.41\00:41:31.68 they've got white knuckles? I'm white knuckle all the time! 00:41:31.79\00:41:34.84 I don't really care for it. 00:41:36.89\00:41:38.39 Oh, and besides that my Jesus said this... 00:41:38.60\00:41:41.40 He said: "Low I'll be with you always. " Low. 00:41:41.61\00:41:47.35 And I heard You, Lord. 00:41:50.30\00:41:51.88 And then Jesus said: "Lyle, I want you to go to Sunnyside, 00:41:58.43\00:42:00.80 Washington. Want you to go there and hold meetings 00:42:01.00\00:42:04.07 in the Seventh-day Adventist church. " 00:42:04.57\00:42:07.39 Now there happened to be in Sunnyside, Washington, 00:42:08.89\00:42:11.22 a family that owned one of the largest cattle spreads 00:42:11.42\00:42:16.79 in central Washington. 00:42:16.99\00:42:18.75 The father-in-law of this man who with his family owned the 00:42:21.94\00:42:27.27 spread had been a Seventh-day Adventist medical doctor. 00:42:27.38\00:42:31.71 He had graduated from Loma Linda University 00:42:32.01\00:42:34.30 in the mid 30's. The day he graduated 00:42:34.40\00:42:36.50 he dropped out of the church 00:42:36.60\00:42:38.49 and worked overtime in all kinds of other hospital jobs 00:42:38.69\00:42:42.52 and various things so he could put his family 00:42:42.62\00:42:44.72 through... Ha... is that Marilene? 00:42:44.92\00:42:48.04 No? You're from Sunnyside. Ah, she knows this story. 00:42:48.34\00:42:52.99 If I'd have had my glasses I'd have know you weren't 00:42:55.88\00:42:58.40 Marilene... probably. 00:42:58.50\00:43:01.61 I don't need glasses. A guy saw me... 00:43:01.91\00:43:04.54 He said: "Would you like to borrow my reading glasses? " 00:43:05.04\00:43:08.78 I said: "No sir, but if you'd like to take my Bible and hold 00:43:09.09\00:43:10.64 it against the back wall I'd appreciate that. " 00:43:10.74\00:43:12.57 So Tim Foster... big, rugged cowboy... reminded me of... 00:43:17.15\00:43:21.92 You remember Cheyenne Bodie? You remember that? 00:43:22.12\00:43:24.94 Cheyenne? Clint Walker... Cheyenne Bodie. 00:43:25.24\00:43:27.35 Narrow at the waist, broad shoulders, muscles. 00:43:27.55\00:43:29.69 Tim reminded me of Cheyenne Bodie. 00:43:30.19\00:43:32.54 And quite a gem... a real cowboy. 00:43:32.95\00:43:35.55 His wife had been watching my programs on 3ABN 00:43:35.85\00:43:39.21 and she kept after him: "Tim, sit down and watch this; 00:43:39.51\00:43:41.28 just watch this one program. He's an old farm boy... 00:43:41.48\00:43:43.67 an old logger. I think you'd enjoy it. " 00:43:43.77\00:43:44.95 "I don't have time. I've gotta... " 00:43:45.05\00:43:46.22 Finally she said: "If you'll just watch one time 00:43:46.62\00:43:49.00 I won't ask you again. " "All right, " he says. 00:43:49.20\00:43:51.66 And he sat down and watched and then he said to her at my amen: 00:43:51.86\00:43:55.81 "If that guy ever came here I'd go to every meeting. " 00:43:56.04\00:43:58.03 She said: "Guess what? He's starting here 00:43:58.33\00:43:59.47 next Saturday night. " 00:43:59.57\00:44:01.01 And he was there every night... front row. And his wife 00:44:08.86\00:44:13.98 and his daughter who is an attorney 00:44:15.25\00:44:17.77 and her son, and then another son and a girlfriend 00:44:18.08\00:44:22.27 and also her daddy... 00:44:24.00\00:44:26.39 the doctor who is now 100 years of age. 00:44:28.01\00:44:31.86 On his 100th birthday you may have seen him on 00:44:32.16\00:44:33.75 Good Morning America! He was waterskiing there 00:44:33.85\00:44:36.25 on the family lake on his 100th birthday. 00:44:36.45\00:44:39.28 Dr. Shearer. And so they came to every meeting. 00:44:40.57\00:44:44.31 Dr. Shearer came to many of the meetings and I went out to 00:44:44.61\00:44:47.14 visit with him and get them ready for the baptism. 00:44:47.24\00:44:49.59 And Dr. Shearer was out saddling his own horse. 00:44:49.79\00:44:52.74 Throwing a big saddle up there and I went over to him. I said: 00:44:53.04\00:44:56.42 "Doctor, I know you love the Lord. I know you love this 00:44:56.62\00:45:00.21 family. I know you love this message. 00:45:00.31\00:45:05.36 Wouldn't you like to be in the water with your family? 00:45:05.77\00:45:09.58 They so would love that. " 00:45:09.88\00:45:12.76 He began to cry. And so we baptized 00:45:12.96\00:45:17.44 that whole family: Dr. Shearer and then later 00:45:17.65\00:45:22.36 a son and his wife. God said: "Go to Sunnyside. " 00:45:22.56\00:45:26.26 Then a bit later He said: "I want you to go to Yakima. " 00:45:26.76\00:45:29.74 "Go now... the gospel has to go everywhere. " 00:45:30.04\00:45:32.46 "Go to Yakima, Washington. " And I got there a few days early 00:45:32.76\00:45:36.17 and someone said to me: "There is a lady 00:45:36.37\00:45:38.04 who lives nearby here who watches your program 00:45:38.25\00:45:42.21 on 3ABN television faithfully. 00:45:42.41\00:45:44.50 I mean, she just won't miss. And if she has to be gone, 00:45:44.80\00:45:47.03 she'll record it and watch it later. 00:45:47.13\00:45:48.75 I believe it'd pay if you'd go call on her before the meetings, 00:45:49.25\00:45:53.63 give her an invitation. " I did. 00:45:53.83\00:45:56.49 It was a lovely early Fall day... warm... 00:45:56.79\00:45:59.89 and the door was open but the screen door was closed. 00:46:00.29\00:46:05.00 And as I and the pastor walked up the walkway 00:46:05.20\00:46:07.98 I heard a familiar voice. It was mine. 00:46:08.18\00:46:12.64 She was watching me on 3ABN television. 00:46:15.16\00:46:18.13 And I knocked on the door 00:46:19.66\00:46:22.71 and the lady came to the door and she looked at me. 00:46:22.91\00:46:26.67 Her jaw dropped. Her eyes popped wide open. 00:46:26.97\00:46:29.33 She looked at her television set; 00:46:29.63\00:46:31.59 she looked back at me and she cried out: "Oh Lord! " 00:46:31.80\00:46:35.52 I said: "No, it's just Lyle. " 00:46:35.62\00:46:37.35 Her boy brought the mop and we got her awakened. 00:46:56.96\00:47:00.42 We baptized her five weeks later. God said: "Go... 00:47:00.82\00:47:05.52 go to Yakima. " 00:47:05.75\00:47:07.81 "Go to Sunnyside and then God said: "Go by way of 00:47:08.12\00:47:12.54 3ABN television to New York City. " 00:47:12.85\00:47:15.65 I tried to pull up from my feeble mind 00:47:16.15\00:47:20.36 the names and I failed. Some of you would be able to 00:47:20.56\00:47:22.72 help me, but I don't want you to speak out in my meeting. 00:47:22.82\00:47:26.46 For a young man... You remember the story written in the Review? 00:47:26.76\00:47:30.78 Three young men living together 00:47:31.09\00:47:33.56 somewhere in New York City 00:47:33.76\00:47:35.55 and one of the young men 00:47:35.75\00:47:37.23 loved to watch Lyle on 3ABN television. 00:47:37.53\00:47:40.02 And early and late and in the morning... whenever they put me 00:47:40.42\00:47:43.16 on he watched me I guess. Mid-morning, whatever... 00:47:43.26\00:47:45.94 Three in the morning he watched me. 00:47:46.24\00:47:48.14 And his brothers didn't appreciate it, so he dared them 00:47:48.44\00:47:50.33 to watch too. And they were all baptized 00:47:50.53\00:47:52.31 and now they're doing the Lord's work in New York City! 00:47:52.51\00:47:54.48 Amen! "Go... go so I can come again. " 00:47:54.78\00:48:00.66 By way of technology God took my sermons 00:48:03.49\00:48:09.32 to the Great Lakes Naval Base, 00:48:09.53\00:48:11.56 and one year three medical doctors were baptized. 00:48:11.96\00:48:14.86 God said: "Go... go. " 00:48:15.16\00:48:18.25 Then one day when the work is finished 00:48:18.95\00:48:23.79 He's going to say: "Come... come now. " 00:48:24.19\00:48:27.99 He said: "Come unto Me... come I'll make you fishers of men. 00:48:28.39\00:48:30.97 Come. " And then He said: "Go... go into the whole world. 00:48:31.17\00:48:32.55 Do this job and then I'll come again. " 00:48:32.65\00:48:36.90 I Thessalonians chapter 4 00:48:38.91\00:48:42.45 16 and 17. Oh, how I love the verses. 00:48:42.75\00:48:45.07 "The Lord Himself... " 00:48:45.57\00:48:48.02 But I like to personalize it so I say: "My Lord. " 00:48:48.22\00:48:51.73 "My Lord Himself shall descend from heaven 00:48:51.93\00:48:55.14 with the voice of the archangel and the trump of God. " 00:48:55.34\00:48:58.27 Does that sound like a secret rapture to you? 00:48:58.38\00:49:00.08 I think not. No... a trumpet blast awakens the dead. 00:49:00.39\00:49:02.66 The Lord Himself shall come. Voice of the archangel, 00:49:02.86\00:49:04.97 trump of God... "and the dead in Christ shall rise first. " 00:49:05.07\00:49:09.04 My dear daddy may have been the best Christian I ever knew 00:49:09.34\00:49:11.42 and he used to say and pray: 00:49:15.73\00:49:17.82 "I want to be alive when Jesus comes. " 00:49:18.12\00:49:20.16 A few hours before he died 00:49:23.55\00:49:25.49 I told him: "You will. 00:49:28.12\00:49:30.13 He's going to waken you to see the last descent 00:49:33.70\00:49:39.10 on the cloud. I know it! " 00:49:39.50\00:49:42.17 We... us... 00:49:46.01\00:49:50.44 we're still here. 00:49:50.74\00:49:52.73 We're going to be snatched up to meet Him in the air. 00:49:54.16\00:49:58.67 "and so shall we ever be... " 00:49:59.97\00:50:02.42 Wherefore, comfort yourselves... 00:50:04.30\00:50:09.74 one another... with these good words: 00:50:10.24\00:50:15.05 "I will come again. " 00:50:15.35\00:50:19.07 An old preacher whom I love to hear 00:50:21.20\00:50:26.12 once said: "When Jesus comes back, I want to meet Him 00:50:26.72\00:50:32.53 in a cemetery... a certain cemetery... 00:50:32.73\00:50:36.56 and I want to be alive to see certain graves open. " 00:50:36.79\00:50:40.11 And I thought a lot about that in the last few years. 00:50:40.61\00:50:44.97 There's a cemetery on a hill in Baker, Oregon, 00:50:45.48\00:50:50.22 where in 1968 we placed Peggy's daddy. 00:50:50.72\00:50:55.34 Perhaps one of the greatest men I ever knew. 00:50:55.64\00:50:58.19 I was working for him at the time. 00:50:58.69\00:51:00.31 A Caterpillar tractor rolled over on him and killed him 00:51:00.52\00:51:03.21 instantly. We buried him there. 00:51:03.31\00:51:05.84 Six years ago this September I put my boy beside him. 00:51:07.09\00:51:10.30 Two years ago I put my granddaughter. 00:51:12.36\00:51:15.12 Four weeks ago today put Peggy's mother there. 00:51:18.83\00:51:22.98 "I will come again 00:51:28.34\00:51:31.55 to receive you 00:51:31.85\00:51:33.64 to Myself. " 00:51:37.07\00:51:38.94 So shall we ever be with the Lord. 00:51:39.54\00:51:42.39 William Miller - 00:51:49.62\00:51:51.23 Bible prophecy student - 00:51:53.72\00:51:56.57 among others had set a date for the 2nd coming of Jesus. 00:51:58.56\00:52:03.98 1843 firstly, and then 00:52:05.80\00:52:08.96 they changed that to October the 22nd of 1844. 00:52:09.16\00:52:12.62 And He didn't come, and many were so discouraged 00:52:12.72\00:52:17.37 they gave up to walk no more with God's people. 00:52:17.78\00:52:23.11 By the way, as a result of that disappointment 00:52:24.86\00:52:27.14 I am convinced of this: 00:52:27.24\00:52:28.44 there were several things that happened after that. 00:52:28.64\00:52:31.27 The main churches, the big churches, what they used to call 00:52:31.57\00:52:33.61 "the money churches" stopped talking about the second coming 00:52:33.71\00:52:37.35 period. They said: "We took the Bible a literal way. 00:52:37.55\00:52:39.88 It let us down. We don't want to hear anything 00:52:39.98\00:52:42.03 about prophecy, about a literal second coming. 00:52:42.23\00:52:44.55 We want to talk about feeding the poor 00:52:44.85\00:52:46.96 and taking care of folks and doing this and accepting all 00:52:47.16\00:52:50.74 peoples, and modernism was born as a result of the 00:52:50.84\00:52:53.70 disappointment of October 22 of 1844. 00:52:53.80\00:52:57.14 And there was another group. This group said: "We're not 00:52:57.44\00:52:59.84 going to turn our backs on prophecy or on the Bible. 00:52:59.95\00:53:02.10 We're still going to talk about the second coming 00:53:02.40\00:53:05.66 though we've been so discouraged; we've been so 00:53:05.96\00:53:07.78 downhearted; we've been so disappointed. 00:53:07.88\00:53:11.00 It's time that we kind of lift our own spirits if need be. 00:53:11.30\00:53:15.87 It's time that we forget about all this disappointment and all 00:53:16.11\00:53:19.54 of this bad news and we need to come together 00:53:19.64\00:53:22.20 and clap our hands and get happy and bring the 5-piece band in 00:53:22.40\00:53:25.37 and walk on the backs of pews. " 00:53:25.57\00:53:27.20 And fanaticism was born as a result of the disappointment 00:53:27.50\00:53:29.47 of October 22, 1844. 00:53:29.57\00:53:31.30 And while the majority went other ways, there was this 00:53:31.81\00:53:34.64 core group that hung on. And they said: 00:53:34.74\00:53:37.25 "It's true we've been disappointed but the promise 00:53:37.45\00:53:39.20 of Jesus is real. He WILL come again! " Amen! 00:53:39.30\00:53:42.96 And William Miller himself said: "I'm not going to give up. 00:53:44.21\00:53:47.10 Not going to throw my Bible away. " 00:53:47.40\00:53:49.18 He said and I quote: "I have set my mind on another date 00:53:49.49\00:53:53.47 and that is today and today and today till He comes. " Amen! 00:53:53.67\00:53:58.80 When 46 years ago 00:54:12.71\00:54:16.88 I began my public ministry 00:54:17.28\00:54:19.72 had you asked me: "What's your favorite scripture? " 00:54:21.45\00:54:27.14 I probably would have said John 14:1-3. 00:54:27.34\00:54:32.09 "In My Father's house are many mansions. I go to prepare... 00:54:32.19\00:54:34.24 I will come again. " 00:54:34.34\00:54:36.93 Some time later had you asked me, maybe 20 years ago, 00:54:39.49\00:54:42.56 had you asked me: "What's your favorite scripture? " 00:54:42.66\00:54:45.47 I might well have said: "Ah, I love that from Romans 00:54:45.57\00:54:49.51 "By grace you are saved... not of yourselves. 00:54:49.71\00:54:53.74 It is a gift of Jesus and the Father, God. " 00:54:54.04\00:54:58.67 You ask me today and I'll be quick to tell you 00:55:00.34\00:55:03.18 while I still love those others I Corinthians 15:51-52. 00:55:03.38\00:55:07.05 "We shall not all sleep but we shall all be? "changed. 00:55:07.25\00:55:10.18 In a moment... in the twinkling of an eye. " 00:55:10.38\00:55:11.78 And I know some of you folk have been to my meetings 00:55:12.18\00:55:14.03 or have listened to my programs have heard me whine and 00:55:14.13\00:55:16.17 complain. And I do more as I get older 00:55:16.27\00:55:18.05 because my body hurts worse and worse and worse. 00:55:18.15\00:55:20.72 My old logger buddy made me go with him about 5 years ago 00:55:21.02\00:55:23.59 to do a logging job. And I had been a logger in my early years. 00:55:23.79\00:55:27.48 And after about three days out in the log camps my body'd 00:55:27.68\00:55:31.35 toughen up and I'd stop hurting. 00:55:31.45\00:55:33.40 But I went and helped my buddy five years ago. 00:55:33.70\00:55:36.13 I'm still hurting! I'm paying for it. 00:55:36.23\00:55:38.48 Yeah... I'm still hurting 00:55:38.99\00:55:41.23 but one day I'm going to be changed. 00:55:41.33\00:55:42.84 I was in a restaurant with my Peggy not too long ago 00:55:43.14\00:55:45.46 and there were three ladies doing the lunch thing. 00:55:45.57\00:55:47.45 And one of them said: "I counted down today, girls. " 00:55:47.65\00:55:49.43 She said: "I looked in the mirror and I saw these crow 00:55:49.63\00:55:52.07 tracks around my eyes I hadn't noticed before. " 00:55:52.18\00:55:54.27 I wanted to turn to her and say: "Hush up, woman. 00:55:54.47\00:55:56.50 An ostrich has walked all over me! " 00:55:56.70\00:55:58.89 And one day I'm going to be changed. 00:55:59.39\00:56:00.99 One day... I have this old, mustard-white hair. 00:56:01.39\00:56:04.22 I look in the mirror and see a rat. 00:56:04.32\00:56:05.82 How would you like to start your day every morning 00:56:06.02\00:56:07.53 you look in the mirror and there's a rat looking 00:56:07.63\00:56:09.22 back at you? If I had beautiful white hair 00:56:09.32\00:56:11.28 like you folks I wouldn't complain much. 00:56:11.38\00:56:13.40 The face I see in the mirror 00:56:14.82\00:56:16.87 more and more is a stranger to me. 00:56:19.09\00:56:22.48 But more and more I see myself becoming 00:56:23.08\00:56:25.81 the man I never thought I'd be. 00:56:26.11\00:56:28.54 One of these days this hair 00:56:30.63\00:56:33.96 is going to go back to its youthful shine. 00:56:34.16\00:56:38.72 And this little place back here 00:56:39.02\00:56:42.70 is gonna have hair again. 00:56:44.65\00:56:46.29 How about that one there? What do you say, brother? 00:56:46.59\00:56:49.56 Amen? Yeah, I thought so. 00:56:49.66\00:56:52.43 I thought so. 00:56:53.03\00:56:55.79 Hey! I'm in this thing to the end. 00:56:56.49\00:56:58.38 I have set my mind on another time: 00:56:58.48\00:57:00.75 today and tomorrow 00:57:01.06\00:57:04.46 until He comes. 00:57:06.91\00:57:09.00 If that's your resolve, 00:57:10.32\00:57:13.65 then stand with me. 00:57:14.15\00:57:16.87 Don't do it if you don't mean it. 00:57:17.47\00:57:20.87 But if you mean it, don't you sit there. 00:57:21.27\00:57:25.38 God bless you. 00:57:25.88\00:57:27.66 See us, Lord? We're not much 00:57:33.51\00:57:38.06 but we're all we have. 00:57:40.77\00:57:42.27 We give it to You unreservedly 00:57:53.06\00:57:57.36 while we wait 00:57:58.60\00:58:00.07 for our Lord Jesus 00:58:00.67\00:58:02.78 to come again. Amen. 00:58:03.34\00:58:07.89
