Before I went into my teen years

I was sexually abused by
my step dad for two years

courage to tell my mom.

And the reason I

she was gonna be mad at me.

she had been married
three times right now

and my step dad.

When we-- when I finally

restraining order out of it

that happened with it.

During that time I was
raped by one of my cousins,

you know, when he was supposed

to be watching us at our house.

The first time I had alcohol,

I was about six
or seven years old.

The first time I had a cigarette

was around the same time.

When after my mom
had divorced my step dad,

she left us at
my grandma's house

and she abandoned us
there and moved to the city.

And it was at my grandma's house

where I experienced

what it felt like
to really be hungry.

They were times, my
grandma was bipolar,

she has diabetes and
she was almost blind.

we tried to take care
of her in her wheelchair,

cleaning her feet and

you got taking care

But the way that we
shopped, we bought Doritos,

soda we drank
soda like it was water.

We ate frozen pizzas.

You know, pork chops,
bacon, just junk food.

And we would eat you
know, like we were kings

for about a week and a half.

Now through this
whole childhood experience,

I get the pictures
just very difficult

and you didn't have a lot
of positive family support

or role models.

Then you came to a
point in your teen years

where you decided, you wanted
to do something different.

You thought that
you could beat this

and be someone different.

You know, I thought
that I was going to be

different from everybody
on the reservation that,

you know, they think that,
you know, we're just drunks.

You know, the people we
lived just off the reservation

and I thought I'm
gonna be different from them.

But nobody
noticed, no one noticed

that I was
trying to be different

and I was
rejected by my friends,

by people in the town
that I lived in just assuming

that I was like

person who came
off the reservation.

And I decided I
didn't care anymore.

drinking more like a lot.

getting high marijuana,

started smoking,

I dated a
different guy every week.

And my sister told
me my younger sister,

she told me that she hated me.

And she just wished
you know-- that I wasn't--

I wouldn't be
around her anymore.

So then what happened?

the stuff that I went through

system before the war.

to Seventh-day Adventists

to come back and
build those campuses again,

destroyed during the war.
