Wow! Second night of Camp Meeting here in West Frankfort. 00:00:31.33\00:00:36.23 Danny, it's a beautiful time, isn't it? 00:00:36.54\00:00:38.87 Oh, it's been beautiful weather and beautiful folk here. 00:00:39.07\00:00:42.15 Give yourself an "Amen, " all right? Amen! All right! 00:00:42.35\00:00:44.85 Praise the Lord that you all made it here safely 00:00:45.06\00:00:46.96 from many many states and a few countries - yeah - 00:00:47.16\00:00:49.90 around the world. So what we want you to do 00:00:50.10\00:00:52.22 is turn off your cell phone. I'm doing this 'cause I just 00:00:52.53\00:00:55.89 now remembered mine wasn't off. 00:00:56.09\00:00:57.49 So you want to shut off your cell phone if you don't mind 00:00:57.59\00:01:00.69 because they may go... Yours on too? 00:01:00.89\00:01:03.16 Yeah, it was. But the only one I worry about is you 00:01:03.46\00:01:05.75 because you're the only one that calls me when I'm on the air. 00:01:05.85\00:01:07.83 Yeah, that's right. I called him one night. 00:01:08.13\00:01:10.99 I should have been watching 3ABN. 00:01:11.09\00:01:12.46 I called him and he answered it and he was on the air 00:01:12.49\00:01:14.58 doing a live program. So... 00:01:14.68\00:01:16.89 Well I can't get it back in the holster now. 00:01:17.85\00:01:20.13 OK, well just anywhere works. All right. 00:01:20.33\00:01:22.60 So you do yours the same way, OK? Thank you. 00:01:22.80\00:01:25.56 Mollie Sue, we're glad that you're here. 00:01:25.69\00:01:27.36 Oh, it is a joy to be here. 00:01:27.56\00:01:29.34 Are you all glad to see Mollie? Amen! Amen! 00:01:29.44\00:01:32.85 Thank you; thank you. 00:01:33.08\00:01:34.45 Mollie and Hal have been through some stormy weather 00:01:34.66\00:01:37.95 in the last few months starting off with the car wreck. 00:01:38.15\00:01:41.52 Just driving down the road minding our own business - 00:01:41.65\00:01:43.76 yeah - and a lady lost control of her car. 00:01:43.97\00:01:47.41 Wasn't her fault, just... Any of you ever lost 00:01:47.61\00:01:50.27 control of your car? 00:01:50.37\00:01:51.74 See, I don't know that I ever have. 00:01:51.82\00:01:53.41 But if I ever do, I hope that I don't barrel right into somebody 00:01:53.71\00:01:56.95 head-on. That was just a very difficult thing 00:01:57.05\00:01:59.11 that we went through. 00:01:59.21\00:02:00.58 But then as a result of that 00:02:00.61\00:02:03.03 some of the scans that they did on me showed that I had 00:02:03.23\00:02:07.13 some things that were pre-existing. 00:02:07.23\00:02:09.46 And so the encouragement I got from the hospital in St. Louis 00:02:09.66\00:02:14.69 that was looking at the areas of problems that I had from 00:02:14.89\00:02:18.34 the accident said: "When you get home 00:02:18.44\00:02:20.39 you need to go see your oncologist. " 00:02:20.59\00:02:22.70 That was a bit frightening. 00:02:22.90\00:02:24.84 And as a lot of you know 00:02:25.04\00:02:28.45 the diagnosis from that was pretty frightening. 00:02:28.75\00:02:33.69 But I'm here to tell you 00:02:33.99\00:02:36.99 that through the grace and mercy of God 00:02:37.19\00:02:39.15 after the diagnosis there was a prognosis. 00:02:39.46\00:02:43.20 Do ya'll know the difference in a diagnosis and a prognosis? 00:02:43.40\00:02:46.14 Diagnosis are the facts... 00:02:46.24\00:02:48.12 and the fact is it's pretty grim. 00:02:48.52\00:02:50.83 But "you shall know the truth" and what will the truth do? 00:02:51.13\00:02:54.23 Set you free. See, it's the truth that sets you free 00:02:54.43\00:02:56.55 not those facts. And the prognosis is 00:02:56.58\00:02:59.57 although it may not be curable it's controllable. 00:02:59.77\00:03:02.85 Do you know who encouraged I was 00:03:03.05\00:03:05.49 when that doctor said controllable? 00:03:05.69\00:03:08.17 That became my favorite word. All right! 00:03:08.37\00:03:10.40 It's controllable. All right. 00:03:10.50\00:03:12.55 And I have had some people that 00:03:12.85\00:03:16.86 found it difficult to think that I would go to a cancer center 00:03:17.27\00:03:21.74 and have some treatment. 00:03:21.94\00:03:23.47 But I had to make some decisions on my own. 00:03:23.67\00:03:28.03 You can't let somebody else make decisions for you 00:03:28.23\00:03:30.81 when you're in a difficult time. 00:03:31.02\00:03:32.67 And praying and trusting God with my whole life... 00:03:32.87\00:03:36.28 First and foremost, I trust God. Amen! 00:03:36.58\00:03:40.64 He was... and I know the scriptures... 00:03:40.78\00:03:43.80 the scriptures that say He was "wounded for my transgression; 00:03:44.00\00:03:47.18 He was bruised for my iniquities. 00:03:47.39\00:03:49.11 The chastisement of my peace was upon Him 00:03:49.41\00:03:53.36 and by His stripes... I am healed. " 00:03:53.56\00:03:57.40 And I have total confidence in God's Word 00:03:57.61\00:03:59.92 and total confidence in Him. 00:04:00.02\00:04:02.47 First and foremost, that is my confidence: 00:04:02.77\00:04:05.56 in Christ my healer. Amen. 00:04:05.76\00:04:07.88 But secondarily, I truly believe that God works through doctors. 00:04:08.08\00:04:12.11 And so I am looking at and using 00:04:12.41\00:04:16.85 modern technology, modern science, the medical field. 00:04:17.05\00:04:20.67 And thirdly, you know there's another area that helps us 00:04:20.90\00:04:24.01 and that is natural remedies. 00:04:24.21\00:04:26.42 Those things that boost your immune system. 00:04:26.62\00:04:29.33 So the decision I made for this grim diagnosis 00:04:29.63\00:04:32.89 was: "I'm going to trust God with my life. " 00:04:33.09\00:04:35.18 All right. "I'm going to allow modern medicine 00:04:35.38\00:04:38.49 to do what it can for me. 00:04:38.69\00:04:40.19 And of course, I'm going to use those immune boosters 00:04:40.40\00:04:43.27 and those things that will help me through natural... " 00:04:43.37\00:04:45.84 But this is what I ask of you. 00:04:46.14\00:04:48.77 Please continue to pray as the Lord lays you on my heart... 00:04:48.97\00:04:51.79 or lays me on your heart. 00:04:51.99\00:04:53.36 I appreciate that so much. 00:04:53.53\00:04:55.16 Your prayers have sustained me 00:04:55.36\00:04:57.05 and God is my source and my supply. 00:04:57.08\00:04:59.41 So I thank you all so very much. Amen! 00:04:59.61\00:05:01.61 I had someone say: "Well you know there's no use for doctors. 00:05:01.82\00:05:05.26 It's wrong... you shouldn't go to doctors. " 00:05:05.36\00:05:07.10 And I said: "If you're in a car wreck and your arm gets 00:05:07.30\00:05:09.10 cut off, what are you going to do? 00:05:09.20\00:05:10.57 You can't take a pill or you know take a healthy drink 00:05:10.63\00:05:13.70 to help fix your arm. " So there is a use for doctors, 00:05:13.90\00:05:16.31 right? Sometimes we must be wise and be prudent. 00:05:16.42\00:05:19.56 And you're very wise and very prudent. We're thankful for 00:05:19.76\00:05:22.12 Loma Linda that treated you so well and did a great work 00:05:22.23\00:05:26.40 with you out there. They did an incredible job 00:05:26.50\00:05:27.87 and I appreciate it so much. All right! A great place, 00:05:28.00\00:05:29.97 and we believe the Lord has led in this. 00:05:30.00\00:05:32.63 We think that even out of the accident 00:05:32.86\00:05:34.93 Mollie might not have known so soon if... 00:05:35.13\00:05:38.73 And that word "controllable. " 00:05:38.86\00:05:40.63 That has been... That is a good word. You see, 00:05:40.93\00:05:43.11 controlled until the Lord comes: 00:05:43.31\00:05:46.15 that's a healing, isn't it? 00:05:46.35\00:05:47.97 Amen! And so that's what we're looking for. 00:05:48.27\00:05:50.41 You know, sometimes I bet you wish Hal was controllable. 00:05:50.61\00:05:53.93 But he's not. This is what I am saying, 00:05:55.62\00:05:58.94 and this - I mean it with all my heart: 00:05:59.14\00:06:00.51 I will live with cancer until I die of old age. 00:06:00.66\00:06:03.91 Amen. We love it; we love it. Amen! 00:06:04.21\00:06:07.10 All right. And you know, a lot of people live with 00:06:07.40\00:06:09.26 a lot of things. You do... you know that. 00:06:09.36\00:06:11.56 Some of you are walking-around miracles. 00:06:11.76\00:06:13.95 In fact, I mentioned last night and maybe I'd better not... 00:06:14.15\00:06:18.07 I'd better let him say it, but someone that was here 00:06:18.17\00:06:21.46 on the platform last night - and it wasn't Dwight - 00:06:21.66\00:06:24.52 said to me that his father for like twenty years 00:06:24.82\00:06:29.69 has lived with multiple myeloma, a bone cancer. 00:06:29.90\00:06:33.78 So... But it's been controllable. 00:06:33.88\00:06:36.18 He's lived with it 20-25 years but he takes his treatment 00:06:36.38\00:06:40.29 and takes care. And that just shows 00:06:40.52\00:06:43.32 God is ultimately in control. Our lives are in His hands. 00:06:43.42\00:06:46.38 Amen! Well again, for those of you watching 00:06:46.58\00:06:49.85 thank you for joining us for Spring Camp Meeting 2013 00:06:50.06\00:06:54.11 here at 3ABN. 00:06:54.25\00:06:56.59 Right now we're going to invite some folk to come out 00:06:56.99\00:07:00.29 and sing with us. We have Bruce Fjarli and his group 00:07:00.49\00:07:03.58 the Valley View Quartet. 00:07:03.78\00:07:05.67 Where are they? And C.A. Murray: are you part of the group? 00:07:05.87\00:07:08.27 You're not dressed the same. C.A.'s not dressed... 00:07:08.47\00:07:11.72 John, Pastor John, they did their own thing, you know. 00:07:11.86\00:07:14.27 Oh yeah; so all right. Amen! 00:08:35.10\00:08:37.04 That she and Hal survived a terrible accident 00:08:37.34\00:08:40.79 and that even after that 00:08:41.09\00:08:43.69 when that diagnosis came 00:08:43.99\00:08:45.75 that You were right there with both of them: 00:08:45.96\00:08:48.03 helping Hal through his recovery 00:08:48.33\00:08:51.01 and helping Mollie through hers. 00:08:51.31\00:08:54.05 Thank you, Father. Thank you for all Your blessings. 00:08:54.35\00:08:57.35 We praise You. We realize, Lord, that You are coming soon. 00:08:57.55\00:09:00.49 We want to be ready. 00:09:00.89\00:09:02.65 In Jesus' name, Amen. Tammy look pretty tonight? 00:09:19.02\00:09:21.42 All right. You can pay me afterwards but... 00:09:21.62\00:09:23.89 I started to say "I'm shocked. " 00:09:24.19\00:09:26.20 When does he ever say anything nice? 00:09:26.40\00:09:28.04 The older you get like this you learn it's easier to... 00:09:28.24\00:09:31.19 My brother once said: "I just want peace in my life. " 00:09:31.89\00:09:34.51 So now, you look beautiful, Tammy. 00:09:34.71\00:09:36.51 You're the best sister I have. 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.57 You're the most wonderful sister I have. 00:09:38.78\00:09:40.16 Boy that's great. Amen. 00:12:26.04\00:12:28.68 There's a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place. 00:12:28.82\00:12:31.32 And I tell you, if we ever needed those showers of blessing 00:12:34.08\00:12:38.04 it would have to be this moment in earth's history. 00:12:38.35\00:12:41.55 Oh, we're praying up at Andrews University 00:12:43.73\00:12:46.74 "God, do a new thing. " 00:12:47.05\00:12:48.78 You know that line "showers of blessing? " 00:12:49.19\00:12:51.01 That's right out of the book of Ezekiel. 00:12:51.11\00:12:52.48 God said there will be showers of blessing. 00:12:52.59\00:12:55.89 We need those showers. 00:12:56.19\00:12:58.95 Thank you, Tammy, for singing that. 00:12:59.25\00:13:01.46 And that testimony of Mollie's: isn't that something? 00:13:01.86\00:13:05.73 What God has done! God bless Mollie and Hal. 00:13:05.93\00:13:10.28 We never know. 00:13:11.59\00:13:12.96 You wake up at the beginning... it's just another day. 00:13:13.12\00:13:16.10 But life can be irrevocably changed 00:13:16.41\00:13:20.32 in just a split second. 00:13:20.52\00:13:21.89 But praise God she's here. 00:13:22.10\00:13:24.18 I talked to Hal tonight. 00:13:24.38\00:13:25.75 When you step out onto the road, you put your life 00:13:28.20\00:13:31.85 in your hands. I go running everywhere I go to preach. 00:13:32.06\00:13:38.05 So this morning I said: "I'm going to run. " 00:13:38.29\00:13:40.55 I have a little gizmo that tells me how far I've run. 00:13:40.85\00:13:44.39 So I said: "I'm going to run into Thompsonville. " 00:13:44.59\00:13:46.38 You've heard of the place near here. 00:13:46.58\00:13:48.57 "I'm going to run into Thompsonville. " 00:13:49.77\00:13:51.34 I have no idea what the neighbors are like; 00:13:51.45\00:13:53.20 I have no idea what the traffic is like 00:13:53.40\00:13:55.25 at this time of the morning. 00:13:55.45\00:13:58.10 But beautiful countryside. 00:13:59.29\00:14:02.26 And you come into the little town and I'm making my way 00:14:02.36\00:14:05.12 just past... There's a major intersection 00:14:05.32\00:14:07.59 where the road shoots off to your right. 00:14:07.79\00:14:09.16 And then all of a sudden I hear... 00:14:09.48\00:14:11.03 And a runner's ears are always tuned to hear... 00:14:11.54\00:14:15.40 because those are the nails of a dog coming up behind you. 00:14:15.90\00:14:19.29 And there were two of them. God bless those Thompsonville dogs. 00:14:21.21\00:14:24.85 There were two of them and you never know with a dog. 00:14:26.64\00:14:29.50 It's just... And you yell at the top of your lungs 00:14:29.70\00:14:33.80 and hope that that will somehow instill respect. 00:14:34.00\00:14:36.59 But they just kept going 00:14:38.61\00:14:40.70 so I kept running as fast as I could. 00:14:40.80\00:14:43.20 I went running once... Had just flow over to London 00:14:47.01\00:14:51.20 for a satellite series. 00:14:51.40\00:14:53.21 Early in the morning... woke up with jet lag. 00:14:53.42\00:14:55.96 "Ah, I've got to shake this off. " 00:14:57.66\00:14:59.47 So it was... the sun had just come up. 00:14:59.77\00:15:01.80 About 6:30... whatever. 00:15:02.20\00:15:04.62 Wintery February. 00:15:05.02\00:15:07.69 Frigid still air. 00:15:08.00\00:15:10.49 So I go out running. 00:15:10.89\00:15:12.68 About 1/2 mile from where I was staying at Newbold College 00:15:12.78\00:15:15.50 outside of London crossed a parking lot. 00:15:15.70\00:15:19.34 A pub, you know, those little restaurant/bars 00:15:19.44\00:15:23.60 that they have: pubs... 00:15:23.80\00:15:25.48 Can't remember the name but I think it's something like 00:15:25.68\00:15:27.79 Roebuck or something like that. 00:15:27.82\00:15:29.78 Empty parking lot. As I run across 00:15:29.98\00:15:32.84 for some reason... There's a telephone pole 00:15:33.04\00:15:35.34 and my eyes for some reason are attracted up the telephone 00:15:35.45\00:15:38.18 pole and here is a sign that's just been nailed up. 00:15:38.28\00:15:41.69 And I looked up at the sign and I read the words. 00:15:42.09\00:15:45.82 I scribbled them down; have them right here. 00:15:45.96\00:15:47.95 Fatal collision... This was a Thursday morning. 00:15:50.05\00:15:52.50 Fatal collision here Sunday 10:38 PM. 00:15:53.52\00:15:57.96 If you have information, call the police at... 00:15:58.89\00:16:01.00 and then the English telephone numbers. 00:16:01.20\00:16:04.53 I tell you what: 00:16:06.62\00:16:08.26 you can be minding your own business just running 00:16:08.56\00:16:10.94 through life, but when you come to a place 00:16:11.14\00:16:14.08 'cause I quickly did the arithmetic. 00:16:14.39\00:16:16.08 Today's Thursday. Good night. Four... 00:16:16.18\00:16:18.52 four days ago somebody's life, 00:16:18.62\00:16:23.35 somebody's dreams, 00:16:23.65\00:16:26.16 somebody's prayers, somebody's everything: 00:16:26.36\00:16:29.80 10:38 at night... Gone just like that! 00:16:30.00\00:16:33.42 It's a sobering experience, isn't it? 00:16:33.62\00:16:36.21 I mean, I'm driving down here yesterday. 00:16:36.51\00:16:38.16 Black cross in the middle of the median. 00:16:38.46\00:16:40.47 What's that tell you? White cross later 00:16:40.57\00:16:42.20 on the side of the road. What does that tell you? 00:16:42.30\00:16:44.09 Somebody perished here. 00:16:44.49\00:16:48.72 It is a sobering experience whenever you stand on the... 00:16:49.85\00:16:52.69 stand beside the place someone has died. 00:16:53.00\00:16:56.48 Tonight I want to stand with you. 00:16:57.09\00:16:58.94 There'll be no balloons, no little teddy bears, 00:16:59.34\00:17:02.12 no flowers, no plastic roses... 00:17:02.32\00:17:04.81 just a cross. 00:17:05.21\00:17:07.58 But I want to stand with you and for a moment 00:17:07.88\00:17:10.35 take in the drama 00:17:11.92\00:17:15.94 that made that cross possible. Let's pray together. 00:17:16.24\00:17:18.92 Oh God. We're thankful for Mollie and Hal. 00:17:19.22\00:17:24.70 Could have been a cross beside the road. 00:17:24.90\00:17:27.45 You spared their lives; doesn't always happen that way. 00:17:27.66\00:17:31.10 Certainly didn't happen that way, holy Father, 00:17:32.17\00:17:35.10 on that fateful Friday afternoon they now call good... 00:17:35.60\00:17:39.58 but it was an awful, awful Friday. 00:17:39.68\00:17:41.89 Didn't happen that way 2,000 years ago. 00:17:42.09\00:17:45.20 As we step back out of time into that distant memory 00:17:46.39\00:17:50.29 let Calvary come alive. 00:17:50.49\00:17:52.33 Let us know the truth, and may the truth set us free. 00:17:53.27\00:17:56.64 We pray in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:17:56.94\00:18:00.32 Open your Bible with me to the story of Calvary. 00:18:00.62\00:18:03.44 Let's go to Calvary. 00:18:03.74\00:18:05.16 Last night was Thursday night 00:18:05.46\00:18:07.04 in the Passion Weekend. 00:18:07.34\00:18:09.11 I know the days of the week, but last night was Thursday night. 00:18:09.32\00:18:11.41 We went to the upper room... Jesus there with the eleven. 00:18:11.51\00:18:13.60 Tonight Friday; tomorrow Friday. 00:18:13.90\00:18:15.79 We're moving... We're moving toward the Sabbath and Sunday 00:18:15.99\00:18:19.04 before our time together is over. 00:18:19.34\00:18:20.99 Let's go to Matthew chapter 27. 00:18:21.30\00:18:23.05 This is the... the apex 00:18:23.25\00:18:28.74 of the gospel story. 00:18:29.04\00:18:31.13 You know that the gospels are really crucifixion 00:18:31.44\00:18:34.64 stories with an introduction. 00:18:34.84\00:18:37.07 Predominant portion of Matthew and Mark and Luke and John: 00:18:37.97\00:18:41.97 all crucifixion story... and resurrection, of course... 00:18:42.27\00:18:45.58 with a tacked on introduction. 00:18:45.78\00:18:47.86 Everything in the history of the universe 00:18:48.16\00:18:50.99 moves to Calvary. Calvary is the center of all time. 00:18:51.19\00:18:55.13 Matthew chapter 27. 00:18:56.54\00:18:58.06 I want to read this with you. Think, brood, with you 00:18:59.08\00:19:01.77 through these familiar verses. 00:19:01.97\00:19:03.69 I want to pick it up... Let's begin in verse 24. 00:19:04.70\00:19:07.65 This is Matthew 27. I'll be in the New King James version. 00:19:07.85\00:19:09.97 Whatever translation you have 00:19:10.37\00:19:11.74 I'm just glad you've got your Bible. 00:19:11.77\00:19:13.14 Thank you for bringing it tonight. 00:19:13.29\00:19:14.66 Matthew chapter 27 verse 24: 00:19:14.84\00:19:16.79 "When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all 00:19:16.99\00:19:20.48 but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water... " 00:19:20.68\00:19:23.46 And what'd he do? 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.53 "He washed his hands before the multitude saying: 00:19:25.73\00:19:28.94 'I am innocent of the blood of this just person. 00:19:29.14\00:19:32.08 You see to it. ' And all the people answered and said... " 00:19:32.38\00:19:37.19 Read those words out loud with me. 00:19:38.36\00:19:40.17 "His blood be on us and on our children. " 00:19:40.57\00:19:45.54 I don't know how many times I have read the crucifixion 00:19:46.04\00:19:49.15 account and I've always seen in those verses 00:19:49.25\00:19:51.16 just this self-curse as it were. 00:19:51.46\00:19:54.98 People calling down: "Put His blood on us. " 00:19:55.28\00:19:58.82 "Go ahead and kill Him... we don't care. " 00:19:58.92\00:20:00.36 Then I came across a gentleman with whom I had the privilege of 00:20:01.54\00:20:05.73 becoming friends with before he died: 00:20:05.83\00:20:10.37 Roger Morneau. Does that name ring a bell with you? 00:20:10.51\00:20:12.72 That great prayer warrior Roger Morneau. Yeah. 00:20:12.92\00:20:15.00 So I never met Roger Morneau. We were going to fly him out 00:20:15.33\00:20:17.75 to lead a prayer service just before Net '98. 00:20:17.95\00:20:21.98 Are you old enough to know about Net '98? 00:20:22.18\00:20:23.66 Did you hear about it? Yeah, OK. 00:20:23.96\00:20:25.49 So we were going to fly Roger from California 00:20:25.79\00:20:28.10 out to pray with us before Net '98... having a big day 00:20:28.30\00:20:31.24 of fasting and prayer. And three days before 00:20:31.34\00:20:34.36 he was to fly he died of a heart attack 00:20:34.56\00:20:36.23 so I never had the privilege of meeting him face to face. 00:20:36.43\00:20:38.77 But a great... a giant of a prayer man. 00:20:39.07\00:20:41.62 And you have read his books: 00:20:41.82\00:20:43.59 Answers to Incredible Prayer; 00:20:43.89\00:20:45.37 More Answers to Incredible Prayer. 00:20:45.47\00:20:46.84 You're holding up one right now. All right. 00:20:46.87\00:20:49.02 You can get them at the ABC. 00:20:49.13\00:20:50.50 Anyway, through Roger I learned this. Roger says: 00:20:50.67\00:20:53.82 "You know what? Every morning of my life I read 00:20:53.92\00:20:55.44 Matthew chapter 27 verse 24 through verse 54. " 00:20:55.54\00:20:58.61 He said: "I figure that if I can go to the highest place 00:20:58.91\00:21:02.55 a human can kneel and bow at the foot of Calvary 00:21:02.75\00:21:05.59 and I can begin every day at Calvary 00:21:05.79\00:21:08.24 I'll be doing all right. " 00:21:08.44\00:21:09.90 And I said to myself: "You know what? If a great man 00:21:10.20\00:21:11.87 like Roger, the great prayer warrior, will go to Calvary 00:21:11.97\00:21:14.96 every day... a little guy like me? I should be going 00:21:15.16\00:21:17.33 to the same place. " So thank you, Roger. 00:21:17.53\00:21:20.66 He taught me that journey... every morning. 00:21:20.86\00:21:23.53 Read it just this morning. 00:21:23.83\00:21:25.28 But it was in that re-reading every day that I suddenly 00:21:25.48\00:21:27.48 realized: "Wait a minute! Verse 25? This isn't a curse... 00:21:27.58\00:21:29.94 this is a powerful prayer. " 00:21:30.15\00:21:32.24 What did the people cry out and say? 00:21:32.55\00:21:33.92 What did the people cry out to Pilate? What did they say? 00:21:33.95\00:21:36.92 "His blood... " Say it out loud with me. 00:21:37.12\00:21:38.66 "His blood be on us and on our children. " 00:21:38.86\00:21:42.89 And so every morning when I get two verses into that 00:21:43.39\00:21:46.80 thirty-verse recitation of Calvary every morning, 00:21:47.01\00:21:50.59 two verses in and I come across that line 00:21:50.79\00:21:52.40 I stop right there and I say: 00:21:52.61\00:21:54.08 "God, I want You to be with Kirk; I want You to be with 00:21:54.11\00:21:56.72 Kristy; I want You to be with Karen and me. 00:21:56.82\00:21:59.17 May His blood be on us. " Rather than a curse 00:21:59.37\00:22:01.78 it occurs to me: this is a beautiful, powerful prayer. 00:22:01.99\00:22:05.52 "God, let the blood of Jesus be on me today. " 00:22:05.72\00:22:08.68 What would happen if the children of the church were 00:22:09.08\00:22:11.64 prayed over every single day across this land 00:22:11.74\00:22:14.10 and every mother, every grandmother, every grandpa, 00:22:14.20\00:22:16.07 every father would pray at the beginning of the day 00:22:16.17\00:22:17.96 "Oh God, Your blood be on my daughter; Your blood be on 00:22:18.17\00:22:20.50 my son; Your blood be on my grandchildren 00:22:20.61\00:22:22.86 and on me too. " 00:22:23.06\00:22:24.52 Can you imagine our kids going out into the day 00:22:25.02\00:22:27.49 under the blood? Now I'm praying for Kirk and his wife 00:22:27.69\00:22:30.76 and Kristy and her husband. 00:22:30.96\00:22:32.33 "Oh God, may Your blood be on Kirk and Chelsea 00:22:32.36\00:22:34.31 and may Your blood be on Kristy and Andrew. " 00:22:34.51\00:22:36.67 And guess what? We just found out a few months ago 00:22:36.87\00:22:39.48 that we're going to become grandparents in October! 00:22:39.68\00:22:42.31 And so I'm praying because it's Kirk and Chelsea 00:22:42.71\00:22:45.13 having the baby, so I'm praying "Oh God, 00:22:45.34\00:22:46.71 and may Your blood be on little baby Nelson... whatever it is. " 00:22:46.81\00:22:49.47 Actually they've taken the picture. 00:22:50.70\00:22:52.10 They know what the baby is. 00:22:52.31\00:22:53.68 But the kids these days... you know what they're doing? 00:22:54.13\00:22:56.01 Something I've never heard of before. 00:22:56.22\00:22:57.59 They have these gender coming out parties. 00:22:57.62\00:22:59.24 So they're the only ones who know. 00:23:00.71\00:23:02.08 Everybody's going to come at the end of June... 00:23:02.16\00:23:03.63 All the family and friends are going to be gathered together 00:23:03.83\00:23:05.50 and then they're going to slice a cake. And if it's pink 00:23:05.70\00:23:07.55 you know what it'll be and if it's blue. 00:23:07.76\00:23:09.13 They kind of do these things. Can you believe that? 00:23:09.21\00:23:10.98 What's gotten into this generation? 00:23:11.28\00:23:12.86 Just tell everybody. 00:23:13.16\00:23:14.58 But what a powerful prayer. Verse 25: "And all the people 00:23:17.05\00:23:20.32 answered and said to Pilate: 'His blood be on us 00:23:20.42\00:23:22.46 and on our children. ' " 00:23:22.76\00:23:25.45 You know, maybe Roger Morneau was onto something. 00:23:25.75\00:23:27.59 Maybe you'll read the story of Calvary every single day 00:23:27.79\00:23:31.01 for the rest of your life. 00:23:31.22\00:23:32.59 Don't tell me your worship is too busy, 00:23:32.67\00:23:34.04 you don't have the time. You can slip the story 00:23:34.07\00:23:35.72 of the cross in. I try to read it every single day. 00:23:35.82\00:23:39.44 I come to verse 25: 00:23:39.64\00:23:41.13 "His blood be on us and on our children. " 00:23:41.53\00:23:43.72 "Then... " verse 26... "Pilate released Barabbas 00:23:43.92\00:23:46.34 to them and when he had scourged Jesus he delivered Him 00:23:46.44\00:23:48.58 to be crucified. " 00:23:48.61\00:23:49.98 Some scholars believe there were up to three scourgings. 00:23:50.01\00:23:52.78 THREE scourgings. 00:23:52.98\00:23:54.35 You know, the Latins coined a word: excruciatus 00:23:55.37\00:23:58.67 which means in Latin "from out of the cross. " 00:23:58.97\00:24:01.53 From whence comes our English word... 00:24:01.83\00:24:03.28 What English word do you think comes from excruciatus? 00:24:03.48\00:24:05.94 Excruciating. The next time you say 00:24:06.24\00:24:08.35 "I have an excruciating headache" you're saying 00:24:08.56\00:24:10.51 "I have pain that comes from out of the cross. " 00:24:10.61\00:24:12.89 Whatever the scourging is about, 00:24:13.19\00:24:15.52 whatever this barbaric form of execution in which you 00:24:15.82\00:24:18.95 in which you actually asphyxiate... 00:24:19.15\00:24:21.64 you drown, you're unable to breathe. 00:24:21.74\00:24:25.71 You're nailed in a position that forbids you to suck your 00:24:25.91\00:24:29.28 diaphragm up finally far enough to drink in 00:24:29.38\00:24:33.20 a morsel of air. 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.45 You drown. 00:24:35.65\00:24:37.73 Three scourgings. "And when he released Barabbas 00:24:38.43\00:24:41.35 to them he had Jesus scourged 00:24:41.46\00:24:43.29 and he delivered Him to be crucified. " 00:24:43.39\00:24:45.12 Drop down to verse 32: "And now as they came out" - 00:24:45.62\00:24:48.27 this is the Roman soldiers and Jesus - 00:24:48.47\00:24:50.04 "they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. 00:24:50.34\00:24:53.53 Him they compelled to bear His cross. 00:24:53.73\00:24:56.18 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, 00:24:56.38\00:24:59.22 that is to say 'Place of the Skull, ' they gave Jesus 00:24:59.42\00:25:01.73 sour wine mingled with gall to drink. 00:25:01.93\00:25:04.26 But when He had tasted it He would not drink. " 00:25:04.57\00:25:06.95 If this were a room full of college students 00:25:07.25\00:25:10.14 which I have the privilege of serving 00:25:10.44\00:25:12.04 I probably would pause right there and say: "Wait a minute. 00:25:12.44\00:25:14.51 did you catch what happened? 00:25:14.61\00:25:15.98 They're passing a bottle around and when it came to Him 00:25:16.21\00:25:18.83 He would not drink. " 00:25:19.13\00:25:21.78 Verse 33: "And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, 00:25:24.11\00:25:27.53 that is to say 'Place of the Skull, ' 00:25:27.73\00:25:29.62 they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink 00:25:29.73\00:25:32.53 but when He had tasted it He would not drink. 00:25:32.67\00:25:34.96 Then... " Why wouldn't He drink by the way? 00:25:35.26\00:25:38.13 Why wouldn't He drink? 00:25:38.44\00:25:39.81 Because He can't risk a moment of inebriation. 00:25:40.23\00:25:42.86 He can't go one split second without His mind in instant 00:25:43.06\00:25:46.93 contact with the King of the Universe. 00:25:47.13\00:25:49.45 I see some younger faces in this room and so I'm going to 00:25:49.65\00:25:51.71 pause to just remind you: that's why the devil 00:25:51.81\00:25:54.93 is so big on alcohol. 00:25:55.03\00:25:57.16 The moment you ingest that fluid it begins slowly 00:25:57.36\00:26:02.21 to put your brain to sleep. And when you brain is asleep 00:26:02.41\00:26:07.04 it's a heyday for hell. 00:26:07.44\00:26:10.48 God cannot intervene. When your brain is asleep 00:26:10.78\00:26:14.46 you won't cry for help. And in that inebriated state 00:26:14.76\00:26:18.34 you may drive a car, 00:26:18.64\00:26:20.31 you may make a sexual decision 00:26:20.51\00:26:22.34 that you'll regret for the rest of your life. 00:26:22.44\00:26:24.25 But in that inebriated state it's curtains for moral control. 00:26:24.55\00:26:30.11 That's why alcohol is HUGE 00:26:30.98\00:26:34.78 in the devil's arsenal tonight. 00:26:35.08\00:26:37.58 That's the only reason: it puts your mind to sleep 00:26:37.78\00:26:40.66 and you can't think. You say: "I just drink... " 00:26:40.96\00:26:42.92 "I'm not really a big drinker. " 00:26:43.12\00:26:44.78 Any drink: your mind begins to nod and you're dead meat. 00:26:45.69\00:26:51.62 You learn something from Jesus right here. 00:26:52.83\00:26:54.69 He would not touch it. 00:26:54.99\00:26:56.36 He will not drink even a sip. He's dying of thirst. 00:26:56.39\00:26:59.77 He won't touch that liquid. 00:26:59.90\00:27:02.00 Verse 35: "And then they crucified Him. 00:27:05.55\00:27:07.75 And they divided His garments, casting lots that it might be 00:27:07.95\00:27:10.44 fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet 00:27:10.54\00:27:12.32 'They divided My garments among them and for my clothing 00:27:12.53\00:27:14.48 they cast lots. ' " Verse 36: 00:27:14.68\00:27:16.20 "And sitting down they kept watch over Him there. " 00:27:16.40\00:27:18.72 That's what you can do every single morning: just sit down, 00:27:18.92\00:27:21.66 open up Matthew 27. If you get tired of Matthew 27, 00:27:21.86\00:27:24.90 then you go to Mark 15. If you get tired of Mark 15, 00:27:25.10\00:27:27.28 you go to Luke 23. If you're tired of Luke 23, 00:27:27.38\00:27:29.14 then you go to John 19. If you're tired of the gospels, 00:27:29.24\00:27:31.24 then you read Isaiah 53. 00:27:31.34\00:27:32.71 You've got five cycles you can go through 00:27:32.96\00:27:35.34 every day and go to Calvary. 00:27:35.45\00:27:37.47 And you'll be a better man for it; you'll be a better woman 00:27:37.67\00:27:40.32 for it. Go to the foot of the cross every single day. 00:27:40.42\00:27:43.88 That's what you do. "Sitting down they kept watch. " 00:27:44.18\00:27:47.41 That's what we're going to do tonight: we're going to keep 00:27:47.61\00:27:49.45 watch on the figure on the center cross. 00:27:49.55\00:27:52.25 "Sitting down they kept watch over Him there. " 00:27:52.56\00:27:54.43 Verse 37: "And they put up over His head 00:27:54.74\00:27:57.45 the accusation written against Him: 00:27:57.55\00:27:59.48 THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 00:27:59.79\00:28:02.40 Then two robbers were crucified with Him, 00:28:02.60\00:28:04.78 one on the right and the other on the left. 00:28:04.98\00:28:06.35 Those who passed by blasphemed Him 00:28:06.55\00:28:09.22 wagging their heads and saying 'Ha! You who destroy the temple 00:28:09.42\00:28:12.34 and build it in three days: save yourself! ' 00:28:12.54\00:28:14.52 'Yo! If You're the Son of God come down from the cross. ' 00:28:14.82\00:28:17.87 Likewise the chief priest also mocked Him with the scribes 00:28:18.27\00:28:21.26 and the elders saying: 'He saved others... Himself 00:28:21.46\00:28:24.20 He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, 00:28:24.30\00:28:26.74 let Him come down from the cross and we will believe in Him. 00:28:26.95\00:28:28.88 He trusted in God... let Him deliver Him now 00:28:29.18\00:28:31.15 if He will have Him for He said: I am the Son of God. ' " 00:28:31.35\00:28:34.63 Count them in the New King James: three times 00:28:34.93\00:28:36.55 the word "if" appears... three "ifs. " 00:28:36.65\00:28:38.81 Matthew ends with three "ifs. " 00:28:39.11\00:28:40.85 Guess what? Matthew begins with three "ifs. " 00:28:41.15\00:28:44.57 Have you heard those "ifs" before? 00:28:44.78\00:28:46.47 Somebody met Him after 40 days and 40 nights 00:28:47.51\00:28:50.93 without water or food and said "if, if, if. " 00:28:51.03\00:28:56.95 Someone meets Him. This is the desperate and final showdown, 00:28:57.26\00:29:02.07 and the three "ifs" are embedded in those taunts. 00:29:02.27\00:29:05.05 If, if, if. 00:29:05.25\00:29:07.98 If Jesus goes through, 00:29:09.26\00:29:11.20 if He is as victorious as He was in the wilderness, 00:29:11.40\00:29:15.04 it's finis for Lucifer... 00:29:15.45\00:29:19.57 and he knows it. 00:29:19.88\00:29:21.43 If, if, if. 00:29:21.73\00:29:24.74 "Even the robbers... " verse 44 Matthew reminds us: 00:29:26.29\00:29:28.71 "Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him 00:29:28.81\00:29:31.54 with the same thing. " Now here we go... here we go. 00:29:31.65\00:29:33.64 Verse 45: "Now from the sixth hour... " That would be noon. 00:29:35.03\00:29:38.02 "until the ninth hour... " That would be 3 o'clock 00:29:39.85\00:29:41.82 in the afternoon. "there was darkness 00:29:41.92\00:29:43.94 over all the land and about the ninth hour 00:29:44.14\00:29:47.49 Jesus cried out with a loud voice... " 00:29:47.80\00:29:49.78 Megas lephone in the Greek. 00:29:49.98\00:29:52.01 Megas lephone. What English word sounds like megas lephone? 00:29:52.22\00:29:55.82 Megaphone! 00:29:56.12\00:29:57.53 Some people think that this is a little sob, a whimper. 00:29:57.73\00:30:00.54 "Oh My God! " This is no sob. 00:30:00.74\00:30:03.80 This is no whisper. 00:30:04.10\00:30:05.65 This is a scream in the dark! 00:30:05.85\00:30:07.51 "My God, My God, 00:30:07.81\00:30:11.73 why have You forsaken Me? " 00:30:12.62\00:30:13.99 "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? " 00:30:14.18\00:30:16.31 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? " 00:30:18.51\00:30:23.81 When you stand at the site of someone's death 00:30:25.48\00:30:29.03 it is a sobering experience. 00:30:29.23\00:30:32.14 What's happening in that naked scream? 00:30:39.80\00:30:43.21 What's transpiring in that desperate cry? 00:30:45.62\00:30:51.50 What's up? 00:30:52.26\00:30:53.88 Richard John Neuhaus 00:30:55.00\00:30:56.37 in his book Death on a Friday Afternoon: 00:30:56.40\00:30:58.78 He jots it down: "Something has been lost. 00:31:00.42\00:31:03.16 Something has been withdrawn 00:31:03.46\00:31:05.24 and it cannot be called back. " 00:31:05.44\00:31:09.69 Something dreadful is transpiring now. 00:31:11.11\00:31:16.59 Matthew Arnold, the English poet... Let me read this to you. 00:31:19.68\00:31:22.89 He captures the sense of lost- ness in his poem Dover Beach. 00:31:23.99\00:31:27.51 You remember that from English literature days? 00:31:27.71\00:31:30.68 Dover Beach. Let me just read a line, a stanza, 00:31:30.98\00:31:32.89 from that poem. The sea of faith 00:31:33.00\00:31:34.89 was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore 00:31:35.29\00:31:38.67 lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled. 00:31:38.87\00:31:42.82 But now I only hear its melancholy, long, 00:31:43.12\00:31:46.94 withdrawing roar, 00:31:47.04\00:31:48.57 retreating, to the breath of the night wind 00:31:48.67\00:31:50.40 down the vast edges drear and naked shingles 00:31:50.51\00:31:53.78 of the world. " Did you hear that line? 00:31:53.98\00:31:55.98 "Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar. " 00:31:56.48\00:32:00.25 Something is being lost here 00:32:00.65\00:32:05.23 that shall not be recovered. 00:32:06.68\00:32:08.79 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken me? " 00:32:09.29\00:32:14.21 I've heard... I've heard the scream of human pain. 00:32:18.07\00:32:23.29 I walk down the hospital. It's part of my sacred duty 00:32:23.69\00:32:26.06 as a pastor to step into hospitals too frequently. 00:32:26.16\00:32:29.53 I've walked down the septic corridor of a hospital 00:32:30.03\00:32:34.40 and I've heard behind a closed door... 00:32:34.60\00:32:35.97 I've heard the muffled scream of human pain. 00:32:36.09\00:32:38.86 I've heard somebody screaming behind that door. 00:32:38.97\00:32:41.38 I've heard my children scream when they were kids. 00:32:44.28\00:32:48.10 I've heard these words "My God" 00:32:49.59\00:32:51.91 but never uttered like this desperate prayer. 00:32:52.21\00:32:56.90 But I have never in my life 00:32:57.30\00:32:59.70 ever heard a scream like this. 00:33:00.10\00:33:04.22 You know, it is humanly impossible... 00:33:05.83\00:33:08.30 it is humanly impossible for you and me 00:33:08.70\00:33:12.15 to possibly fathom the depths 00:33:12.35\00:33:15.79 that are captured by that one shattering scream in the dark. 00:33:16.49\00:33:21.49 "My God, My God, why have You cut Me off? " 00:33:22.38\00:33:25.74 Is this the cry of human pain? 00:33:29.04\00:33:33.46 Do you suppose that's it? 00:33:33.66\00:33:35.03 "Why? Why? Why? " 00:33:35.80\00:33:37.88 Is that it do you think? 00:33:38.18\00:33:39.80 I've stood by parents... 00:33:40.11\00:33:41.56 I've stood by all sizes of caskets. 00:33:42.85\00:33:45.23 Full-size caskets. 00:33:47.84\00:33:50.27 Tiny little 18" caskets. 00:33:51.68\00:33:54.56 I've stood beside parents sobbing over that clay form... 00:33:55.81\00:34:00.85 the tears salty 00:34:01.35\00:34:04.68 falling onto that lifeless promise of hope. 00:34:05.08\00:34:10.07 I've heard the question... I've heard the question 100 times. 00:34:11.05\00:34:14.13 Why? Why? Why? 00:34:14.33\00:34:19.21 Is this the cry of human pain? 00:34:19.51\00:34:21.19 Is this the cry of human suffering? 00:34:21.30\00:34:22.68 "God, why is this happening to me? " 00:34:22.88\00:34:24.25 Is that what Jesus is crying? 00:34:24.38\00:34:26.18 Is He crying: "Why is this happening to me? " 00:34:26.58\00:34:29.47 You remember Mel Gibson and The Passion of the Christ? 00:34:31.49\00:34:33.96 Does that kind of ring a bell? It was years ago. 00:34:34.16\00:34:36.00 Remember they came out with this full-length Hollywood 00:34:36.50\00:34:39.06 production on the death of Jesus. You remember that? 00:34:39.16\00:34:41.84 So I get this little letter in the mail 00:34:42.14\00:34:44.15 and it says For Senior Pastors only with your spouse. 00:34:44.55\00:34:47.77 Must bring photo I.D. 00:34:47.97\00:34:49.97 Come to Chicago to a private showing - 00:34:53.99\00:34:57.54 pre-release showing - of The Passion of the Christ. 00:34:57.74\00:35:01.30 So I went over. 00:35:03.25\00:35:04.74 In a church. 00:35:05.24\00:35:07.20 Senior Pastors only... their spouses. 00:35:07.50\00:35:09.96 Checked your I.D. at the door. 00:35:10.46\00:35:12.45 They didn't want the press to get an advance 00:35:12.55\00:35:14.09 because it has already stirred up quite a bit of controversy. 00:35:14.29\00:35:16.73 And you've got to admit it was a pretty brilliant 00:35:17.03\00:35:18.91 marketing tactic for whoever was putting that together. 00:35:19.01\00:35:21.53 I sat beside a pastor. 00:35:21.93\00:35:23.86 I'm telling you: he cried all the way through. 00:35:24.27\00:35:27.40 The scene of Jesus' scourging is just... it's just revolting. 00:35:28.52\00:35:33.22 But if you watch Mel Gibson's treatment of Calvary 00:35:33.72\00:35:36.88 you'll walk away with the conclusion that what Calvary 00:35:37.08\00:35:39.25 is about is human pain. 00:35:39.35\00:35:40.72 "Whoa... whoa did He suffer for me! " 00:35:40.88\00:35:44.16 And if we make the conclusion that the cross is about 00:35:45.49\00:35:48.52 human pain we have missed the whole point of Calvary. 00:35:48.62\00:35:51.94 I had a dear, dear friend who died of cancer 00:35:53.48\00:35:56.36 tethered to a morphine drip. 00:35:57.54\00:35:59.97 You can't tell me six hours on the cross 00:36:00.97\00:36:03.43 is equivalent to three weeks of that drip. 00:36:03.63\00:36:07.71 Can't be. There have been martyrs who have died... 00:36:08.11\00:36:11.04 My friend Steve Bohr is taking us through the Dark Ages 00:36:11.24\00:36:13.97 with this Jezebel and Elijah. That's good stuff. 00:36:14.47\00:36:17.48 Great teaching. 00:36:17.69\00:36:19.75 There have been martyrs who have died more painful deaths 00:36:19.95\00:36:23.02 than Calvary. Come on... let's be honest. 00:36:23.22\00:36:24.83 Calvary's not the summit of human pain. 00:36:25.13\00:36:27.64 Something else is happening at Calvary. 00:36:27.94\00:36:29.64 Something else is transpiring in that center... 00:36:29.94\00:36:33.30 on that center cross. 00:36:33.51\00:36:34.88 Let me read this to you. This is Desire of Ages page 753. 00:36:34.97\00:36:38.65 This classic on the life of Jesus. Listen to this: 00:36:40.06\00:36:42.08 "All His life Christ had been publishing to a fallen world 00:36:42.28\00:36:45.64 the good news of the Father's mercy and pardoning love. 00:36:45.84\00:36:48.73 Salvation for the chief of sinners was His theme. " 00:36:49.13\00:36:52.24 When Jesus is giving a theme do you know what He's talking 00:36:52.44\00:36:54.66 about every single time? 00:36:54.76\00:36:56.33 Salvation for the chief of sinners. 00:36:56.43\00:36:58.53 God is not somebody to be afraid of. 00:36:58.73\00:37:00.17 God is somebody to be a friend of. 00:37:00.27\00:37:01.64 You run not from Him... run TO Him. 00:37:01.67\00:37:04.04 Run to Him. 00:37:04.24\00:37:05.98 Jesus' stories are to draw us back to God. 00:37:06.18\00:37:10.26 Not a God that is the harshest critic in the universe. 00:37:11.35\00:37:16.40 A God who is the greatest lover, the greatest Father, 00:37:16.60\00:37:20.50 the Mother, the One whose arms are outstretched. 00:37:20.60\00:37:23.99 Salvation... Did you catch that? 00:37:25.91\00:37:28.65 "Salvation for the chief of sinners was His theme. 00:37:28.85\00:37:31.86 But now with the terrible weight of guilt He bears 00:37:32.06\00:37:34.46 He cannot see the Father's reconciling face. 00:37:34.66\00:37:38.05 The withdrawal of the divine countenance from the Savior 00:37:38.48\00:37:40.55 in this hour of supreme anguish 00:37:40.75\00:37:42.62 pierced His heart with a sorrow that can never be fully 00:37:42.82\00:37:45.27 understood by man. " Now listen: "So great was this agony 00:37:45.37\00:37:48.94 that His physical pain was hardly felt. " 00:37:49.14\00:37:51.14 Is Calvary about physical pain? 00:37:51.64\00:37:54.01 No it is not. 00:37:54.41\00:37:55.78 It's not about pain. That movie was wrong. 00:37:55.93\00:37:58.54 Calvary is not about human pain. 00:38:00.29\00:38:03.04 Calvary is about the divine price. 00:38:03.54\00:38:06.79 The divine price to redeem us from that pain... 00:38:07.30\00:38:10.78 this painful existence. 00:38:11.08\00:38:13.02 Well Dwight, are you saying that there's no pain in this story? 00:38:14.30\00:38:18.23 Are you serious? 00:38:18.43\00:38:20.53 This is brutal to the max! 00:38:21.03\00:38:24.39 This is no anesthetized picnic for Jesus. 00:38:26.86\00:38:29.73 Excruciatus, remember? Barbaric! 00:38:32.05\00:38:35.35 From out of the cross He's suffering. 00:38:35.65\00:38:37.48 But how did she put it here? 00:38:37.89\00:38:39.63 "So great was this agony 00:38:39.83\00:38:41.43 that His physical pain was hardly felt. " 00:38:41.53\00:38:42.90 What agony are you talking about? 00:38:43.00\00:38:44.37 She's talking... "I'm talking about, " she said, 00:38:44.47\00:38:46.73 "the mental agony. " The mental agony. 00:38:46.93\00:38:50.67 Something is happening. 00:38:50.87\00:38:52.76 That's why that cross goes dark for three hours - 00:38:53.06\00:38:55.59 pitch black - because God said "I'm not letting anybody 00:38:55.79\00:39:00.13 in this universe see this moment now. " 00:39:00.23\00:39:01.88 "I will be in those shadows along with My Son. " 00:39:02.19\00:39:04.78 "Nobody will see this... He won't even know. " 00:39:05.08\00:39:07.74 "My God, why have You cut me off? " 00:39:07.94\00:39:09.92 But in that funerial pall of blackness 00:39:11.31\00:39:15.95 something's happening. 00:39:16.19\00:39:18.03 Something's happening. The only cryptic clue we have 00:39:18.24\00:39:22.62 to what is happening on that center cross 00:39:22.82\00:39:25.26 is this line... this naked scream. 00:39:25.56\00:39:29.64 Read verse 46 again: "And about the ninth hour 00:39:30.14\00:39:32.58 Jesus called out with a... " megaphone... "with a loud voice 00:39:32.78\00:39:35.01 saying 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? ' 00:39:35.21\00:39:37.34 That is: 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? ' " 00:39:37.54\00:39:42.37 Where did Jesus get that line? 00:39:44.19\00:39:45.92 Where did the Savior of the world find 00:39:46.94\00:39:52.19 that line? 00:39:52.22\00:39:53.59 It's a prayer. It's a prayer from the Old Testament. 00:39:54.62\00:39:56.92 I want you to go to that one little prayer 00:39:57.12\00:40:00.50 and the cryptic clue is embedded there. 00:40:00.70\00:40:02.24 Go back to Psalm 22. 00:40:02.44\00:40:05.11 Psalm 22. 00:40:06.48\00:40:08.29 It is more than obvious the moment we begin to read 00:40:09.73\00:40:12.86 Psalm 22 that there's only one person in the universe 00:40:13.06\00:40:16.65 that could possibly ever have prayed this prayer 00:40:16.85\00:40:19.84 in its entirety. Can't be David. 00:40:20.04\00:40:21.82 It cannot be David... it must be the Son of David. 00:40:22.02\00:40:24.94 Psalm 22... I want you to go back to Psalm 22. 00:40:25.25\00:40:27.71 Turn back... don't miss this in your own Bible. 00:40:28.01\00:40:30.68 You'll be amazed at what you see now in Psalm 22. 00:40:30.88\00:40:33.93 Jesus has reached back to that ancient prayer 00:40:34.36\00:40:36.94 and He has put it on His lips and we hear only the first line. 00:40:37.14\00:40:43.04 Some scholars believe that there was a practice in 00:40:43.95\00:40:46.07 synagogues where the leader up front would begin a prayer, 00:40:46.27\00:40:50.97 a Psalm, by reciting the first line. 00:40:51.07\00:40:54.07 And then all the worshipers, having learned that prayer 00:40:54.98\00:40:58.75 as they did, all the worshipers would then quietly under their 00:40:58.85\00:41:02.31 breath be repeating the prayer all the way through. 00:41:02.41\00:41:04.89 What is amazing is that it works for the middle cross at Calvary. 00:41:06.02\00:41:11.42 The opening line of the prayer is cried out 00:41:11.72\00:41:14.23 by our Lord Himself. 00:41:16.62\00:41:18.48 Psalm 22 verse 1: "My God... " There it is! 00:41:18.88\00:41:22.11 "My God... why have You forsaken Me? 00:41:22.31\00:41:25.10 Why are You so far from helping Me 00:41:25.30\00:41:27.58 from the words of my groaning? 00:41:27.78\00:41:29.49 Oh My God, I cry in the daytime but You do not hear 00:41:29.69\00:41:32.25 and in the night season I am not silent. " 00:41:32.46\00:41:34.71 "Where are You? " 00:41:35.47\00:41:37.23 "I'm crying to You. Can You not hear Me now? " 00:41:37.53\00:41:41.39 Something is happening in the mind of the one praying. 00:41:45.63\00:41:49.19 Watch this. Drop down to verse 6: 00:41:49.39\00:41:51.10 "But I... " What's it say in yours? 00:41:51.30\00:41:53.62 "I am a... I am a worm. " 00:41:53.82\00:41:56.31 "I am a worm and no man, a reproach of man 00:41:57.58\00:42:01.61 and despised by the people. " 00:42:01.71\00:42:03.34 "I am a worm. " 00:42:03.74\00:42:05.51 Jesus, You're not a worm! 00:42:05.81\00:42:08.80 You're the eternal God incarnated in human flesh. 00:42:09.20\00:42:11.83 That's what You are... don't forget it, Jesus. 00:42:11.96\00:42:13.73 No! "I am a worm. " 00:42:13.93\00:42:15.79 Something has happened to Jesus because just hours earlier 00:42:16.29\00:42:19.53 in that high priestly prayer on the way to Gethsemane 00:42:19.73\00:42:21.83 John 17 He says: "Oh Father, by the way, 00:42:22.03\00:42:24.16 remember the glory that I shared with You 00:42:24.46\00:42:27.17 from the beginning. " 00:42:27.47\00:42:29.30 He knew then who He was. 00:42:29.70\00:42:33.14 But now: "I am a worm and no man, a reproach 00:42:33.44\00:42:38.65 to man and despised by the people. " 00:42:38.85\00:42:40.74 What is happening to Jesus? 00:42:41.04\00:42:42.58 I'll tell you, ladies and gentlemen, what is happening 00:42:42.78\00:42:44.20 to Jesus. Isaiah 53 verse 6. 00:42:44.30\00:42:46.79 "All we... " Say it out loud with me. 00:42:47.09\00:42:49.13 "All we like sheep have gone astray. 00:42:49.33\00:42:51.05 We have turned every one to his own way and 00:42:51.25\00:42:54.85 the Lord has laid on Him... " Tell me. 00:42:55.05\00:42:58.79 Tell me. 00:42:59.19\00:43:00.56 How much of the iniquity? 00:43:01.16\00:43:02.94 All. How many people in this room? 00:43:03.24\00:43:05.33 How many viewers on this network? 00:43:05.64\00:43:08.96 How many human beings? 00:43:09.26\00:43:10.63 All! "The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. " 00:43:10.82\00:43:14.99 You say: "Dwight, what sins would that include? " 00:43:15.77\00:43:17.56 All. But don't worry about all 00:43:19.59\00:43:21.96 because the moment I said iniquity, 00:43:22.26\00:43:24.38 the moment we injected the word sin, 00:43:24.58\00:43:27.11 your mind just like that saw it. 00:43:28.40\00:43:31.86 You know what it is. 00:43:32.06\00:43:33.43 Whatever the sin is it doesn't matter to me. 00:43:34.86\00:43:37.02 I have my own struggles, trust me. 00:43:37.22\00:43:39.94 But the moment we think sin and iniquity 00:43:40.72\00:43:44.33 immediately if the conscience is working 00:43:45.14\00:43:48.06 this vehicle through which the Holy Spirit speaks 00:43:48.26\00:43:50.35 just like that we got it. 00:43:50.55\00:43:52.44 We know whatever that sin is. 00:43:52.74\00:43:55.31 Doesn't matter to me what yours is. 00:43:55.51\00:43:57.04 You have it... I have it. 00:43:57.34\00:43:59.74 "The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. " 00:44:00.04\00:44:02.24 You say: "Dwight, I don't have it. " 00:44:02.44\00:44:04.52 We have the sin of lying so now you're also in that category. 00:44:04.82\00:44:08.52 We ALL have sinned. 00:44:08.55\00:44:11.04 Isaiah 53:6: "The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. " 00:44:13.47\00:44:17.18 II Corinthians chapter 5 verse 21. 00:44:17.48\00:44:19.42 "God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us 00:44:19.62\00:44:24.02 that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. " 00:44:24.22\00:44:26.34 He's made to be sin. 00:44:26.74\00:44:28.26 You say: "No, no, no, no... I don't see how that could work. " 00:44:28.66\00:44:30.87 Me either. 00:44:31.17\00:44:32.54 But the sheer naked terror and agony of Calvary 00:44:34.34\00:44:38.69 is proof enough it worked! 00:44:38.89\00:44:40.83 The sins got transferred. 00:44:42.50\00:44:44.62 "Behold the Lamb of God... " Who does what? 00:44:44.82\00:44:47.13 "Who takes away... " John 1:29... 00:44:47.43\00:44:50.07 "who takes away the sins of the world. " 00:44:50.27\00:44:51.64 The sin of the world. 00:44:51.89\00:44:53.39 Something mysterious... 00:44:55.57\00:44:57.54 something has been unsheathed in the darkness 00:44:57.84\00:45:02.48 and now that dagger is slowly 00:45:03.44\00:45:06.88 being brought to the heart of God made flesh. 00:45:09.46\00:45:15.43 Wow! "I am a worm and no man, 00:45:16.87\00:45:20.73 a reproach of man and despised by the people. " 00:45:20.87\00:45:23.07 Now keep reading. You say: "Dwight, I don't really think 00:45:23.17\00:45:25.27 this is Calvary. " So the opening works but 00:45:25.38\00:45:27.74 keep reading, verse 7: "All those who see Me 00:45:27.84\00:45:30.18 ridicule Me. " Remember, He's praying under His breath now. 00:45:30.38\00:45:33.57 "All those who see Me ridicule Me. 00:45:33.97\00:45:36.17 They shoot out the lip, they shake their heads saying... " 00:45:36.37\00:45:38.10 Ha! Verse 8: "He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him. 00:45:38.30\00:45:41.67 Let Him deliver Him since He delights in Him. " 00:45:41.87\00:45:43.71 Have you heard those words before tonight? 00:45:43.92\00:45:45.82 Have you heard the words tonight? Yes you have. 00:45:46.22\00:45:48.23 Who... who taunted Him with those words? 00:45:48.53\00:45:51.15 The rabble from the chief priest and the thieves. 00:45:52.16\00:45:55.59 "He trusted God, let Him rescue Him. " 00:45:57.05\00:46:00.09 Oh, look at verse 9: "But You are He who took Me 00:46:02.40\00:46:04.79 out of the womb. 00:46:04.99\00:46:06.36 You made Me trust while on My mother's breast. " 00:46:06.43\00:46:10.57 There's never a mention of the father - of a father - 00:46:10.97\00:46:14.36 in Psalm 22. 00:46:14.56\00:46:15.93 The only mention is of a mother. 00:46:16.23\00:46:18.87 "He took Me from My mother's breast. " 00:46:19.72\00:46:22.68 Keep reading. 00:46:24.04\00:46:25.53 "I was cast upon You from birth. 00:46:25.73\00:46:28.91 From My mother's womb You have been My God. " 00:46:29.11\00:46:34.41 Hit the pause button right there... I need to tell you 00:46:34.72\00:46:36.26 something fascinating right there. 00:46:36.36\00:46:37.84 "You have been My God" in the Hebrew reads like this: 00:46:38.15\00:46:42.54 eli or eli attah. 00:46:44.43\00:46:48.44 "You have been My God. " Eli means My God... 00:46:49.69\00:46:53.57 "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? " 00:46:53.77\00:46:55.77 "You have been My God. " Eli attah. 00:46:56.07\00:47:00.56 BUT if you're listening to somebody speaking in the 00:47:01.45\00:47:05.31 original tongue, if you're listening to it being prayed 00:47:05.41\00:47:08.12 in the original language and you're not listening carefully 00:47:08.22\00:47:11.16 instead of hearing Eli attah you can hear Eli attah... 00:47:11.36\00:47:15.61 And Eli attah means Elijah come. 00:47:16.02\00:47:19.73 And the men in the dark at the foot of the cross 00:47:22.09\00:47:25.94 hear this naked scream and "Shhhh... 00:47:26.14\00:47:29.94 He's calling for Elijah. 00:47:30.15\00:47:32.39 Let's see if Elijah comes. " 00:47:32.59\00:47:34.65 Steve Bohr preaching about Elijah. 00:47:34.85\00:47:38.02 Elijah at Calvary. They misheard Him. 00:47:38.42\00:47:42.77 He said: "You have been My God. " Eli attah 00:47:43.07\00:47:46.00 and they heard Eli attah. 00:47:46.20\00:47:47.82 It's just where you put the vowels. 00:47:48.12\00:47:51.43 Still not convinced this is a Calvary? 00:47:54.56\00:47:57.11 That there's only one person in the universe who could ever 00:47:57.41\00:48:00.19 have prayed this prayer and meant it all the way through? 00:48:00.29\00:48:03.49 Keep reading. Verse 15: "My strength is dried up 00:48:05.89\00:48:10.55 like a potsherd and My tongue clings to My jaw. " 00:48:10.65\00:48:13.62 When does your tongue cling to the top or the bottom 00:48:13.79\00:48:16.60 of your mouth? When does it cling? 00:48:16.70\00:48:18.07 When you are thirsty! 00:48:18.36\00:48:20.14 Don't miss Sabbath morning... I'll talk about that. 00:48:20.54\00:48:23.37 "My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust 00:48:24.47\00:48:27.73 of death. " Now look at verse 16: 00:48:27.83\00:48:29.50 "For dogs have surrounded Me; the congregation of the wicked 00:48:29.70\00:48:31.73 has enclosed Me. They pierced My... " 00:48:31.84\00:48:35.24 There's only one person in the universe who could have prayed 00:48:35.64\00:48:37.88 this prayer. He's praying it right now. 00:48:37.98\00:48:40.84 Look at verse 17: "I can count all My bones; 00:48:41.14\00:48:43.07 they look and they stare at Me. " 00:48:43.28\00:48:44.65 You know why? Because He's raw naked. 00:48:44.68\00:48:46.39 They've stripped Him of His last dignity. 00:48:46.69\00:48:48.87 They're gambling over what He had. 00:48:49.17\00:48:51.07 Verse 18: "They divide My garments among them 00:48:53.47\00:48:56.72 and for My clothing they cast lots. " 00:48:56.92\00:49:00.08 Isn't that amazing? 00:49:00.92\00:49:03.36 "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? " 00:49:03.56\00:49:06.05 And then the prayer goes... the prayer goes subterranean. 00:49:06.35\00:49:08.95 The prayer goes inside and just as muttering, 00:49:09.15\00:49:11.79 as mumbling, 00:49:11.99\00:49:13.48 slowly praying the great Messianic Psalm 22. 00:49:13.68\00:49:18.23 But then something very interesting happens. 00:49:21.43\00:49:22.99 In fact, Felix Mendelssohn when he decides to make this 00:49:23.20\00:49:25.81 grand choral composition of Psalm 22 00:49:25.91\00:49:28.58 right there in the middle of verse 21 he moves from the minor 00:49:28.79\00:49:33.40 to the major key. 00:49:33.70\00:49:36.11 Verse 21: "Save Me from the lion's mouth 00:49:36.51\00:49:38.74 and from the horns of the wild oxen... " 00:49:39.04\00:49:40.82 Pause... And some of your newer translations actually show 00:49:41.02\00:49:43.34 a space there... You see that space. 00:49:43.44\00:49:45.06 There's a space - pause. Now in the major key 00:49:45.36\00:49:49.68 "You have answered Me. " 00:49:49.98\00:49:52.41 Everything now is moving toward this positive. 00:49:52.91\00:49:56.32 Positive, positive... but I've got to take you 00:49:56.52\00:49:58.00 to that last line. Watch this... verse 31: 00:49:58.10\00:49:59.95 "They will come... " He's still praying... 00:50:00.16\00:50:01.56 "They will come and declare His righteousness to a people 00:50:01.67\00:50:03.89 who will be born that He has done this. " 00:50:04.09\00:50:07.03 If that phrase is taken... if it's translated 00:50:07.23\00:50:10.20 in the Hebrew, instead of "He has done this" 00:50:10.30\00:50:12.91 it can be translated "It is finished! " 00:50:13.11\00:50:16.20 He prayed that prayer from beginning to end 00:50:18.06\00:50:19.94 because we needed a cryptic clue to know what's happening. 00:50:21.38\00:50:24.20 If Calvary is not about human pain, then what's it about? 00:50:24.50\00:50:27.05 It's about the divine price. 00:50:27.15\00:50:28.52 And what is the divine price? 00:50:28.66\00:50:30.33 The divine price is you 00:50:31.32\00:50:34.97 must pay the wages of sin. 00:50:35.97\00:50:40.33 Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, 00:50:41.91\00:50:45.12 but the gift of God is eternal life. " 00:50:45.22\00:50:47.41 What kind of death is it? 00:50:47.62\00:50:49.14 The opposite of the gift. What's the gift? 00:50:49.55\00:50:51.47 Eternal life. Then what kind of death would it be? 00:50:51.67\00:50:53.92 Eternal death. 00:50:54.22\00:50:55.96 Eternal death. 00:50:56.26\00:50:57.88 God made Him to be sin. 00:50:57.98\00:51:00.55 "My God, You have... " This is it! This is it. 00:51:01.25\00:51:05.81 "You have cut Me off. " 00:51:06.05\00:51:08.36 Desire of Ages again. 00:51:22.01\00:51:23.95 Page 753 and 772. 00:51:24.45\00:51:28.53 "Satan with his fierce temptations wrung the heart 00:51:29.89\00:51:34.14 of Jesus. " Ladies, come on. 00:51:34.34\00:51:36.49 You know, you're mopping up the kitchen after your husband 00:51:36.60\00:51:39.17 was there... and cleaning it up. 00:51:39.27\00:51:41.45 And gentlemen, we really should be doing this ourselves. 00:51:41.65\00:51:44.16 When you take that dishcloth 00:51:44.56\00:51:47.04 and you've wiped it all down 00:51:47.24\00:51:49.41 what do you do with that dishcloth? 00:51:49.61\00:51:50.98 What does it mean when you wring that dishcloth out? 00:51:51.18\00:51:54.07 What do you do with it? 00:51:54.27\00:51:55.64 You put all the strength you have in those delicate hands 00:51:55.67\00:51:57.81 of yours and you clutch that cloth and you twist the hand. 00:51:57.92\00:52:00.37 And that which is in your hands is just twisted until 00:52:00.47\00:52:03.61 the last drop of water's gone. 00:52:03.81\00:52:06.82 "Satan with his fierce temptations 00:52:07.12\00:52:10.88 has wrung the heart of Jesus. 00:52:11.18\00:52:13.72 The Savior could not see... " Now listen carefully: 00:52:14.12\00:52:16.79 "The Savior could not see through the portals of the tomb. 00:52:16.99\00:52:19.42 Hope did not present to Him His coming forth 00:52:19.72\00:52:21.77 from the grave a conqueror or tell him of the Father's 00:52:21.97\00:52:24.23 acceptance of the sacrifice. 00:52:24.44\00:52:25.93 Jesus feared that sin was so offensive to God that 00:52:26.13\00:52:28.66 their separation was to be eternal. " 00:52:28.86\00:52:32.39 "It's over... I am gone... You have cut Me off. " 00:52:33.62\00:52:37.70 You see, we always have Jesus dying but He knows "I'll be up. 00:52:40.12\00:52:42.99 I'll be up... no big deal. 00:52:43.29\00:52:45.28 I've died... now I'll come up. " 00:52:45.58\00:52:46.99 Satan had so wrung His heart 00:52:50.56\00:52:53.36 in the desperate last-ditch hope 00:52:53.76\00:52:57.44 that He might walk away from this cross and say: 00:52:57.64\00:52:59.68 "You can have this sorry lot. I'm coming home, Father. " 00:52:59.88\00:53:03.59 And could He have? Could He have? 00:53:03.89\00:53:06.34 He could have and we never would have been born. 00:53:06.54\00:53:10.65 Gone. 00:53:12.26\00:53:14.20 Satan wrung His heart. 00:53:16.74\00:53:19.33 Jesus believed that their separation was to be eternal. 00:53:19.73\00:53:23.47 Now here's page 772: "It was not the spear thrust, 00:53:23.57\00:53:26.68 it was not the pain of the cross that caused the death of Jesus. 00:53:26.78\00:53:29.62 That cry uttered with a loud voice 00:53:29.92\00:53:31.80 at the moment of death, the stream of blood and water 00:53:32.00\00:53:34.20 that flowed from His side declared that He died 00:53:34.30\00:53:36.35 of a broken heart. 00:53:36.45\00:53:37.86 His heart was broken by mental anguish. 00:53:38.16\00:53:40.79 He was slain by the sin of the world. " 00:53:41.09\00:53:44.39 My sin. That darling little sin that you refuse to let go of. 00:53:46.11\00:53:50.71 The one that came to your mind just a moment ago when I said 00:53:51.02\00:53:53.40 "sin. " Bing... you saw it. 00:53:53.60\00:53:55.44 That sin that for some reason we refuse to part with. 00:53:55.74\00:53:59.81 That sin killed Him. 00:54:00.66\00:54:04.57 One sin... just one. 00:54:04.87\00:54:08.47 Have mercy is the sinner's prayer. 00:54:10.77\00:54:15.43 Have mercy on me. 00:54:16.75\00:54:18.50 I killed the Son of God. 00:54:18.80\00:54:22.22 Died forever. 00:54:23.98\00:54:25.79 Died forever. You say: "Well He didn't die forever. " 00:54:27.45\00:54:30.66 Oh yes He did. 00:54:31.06\00:54:32.56 I heard a little story when I was a boy. 00:54:32.96\00:54:34.44 I'll share it with you in closing. 00:54:34.74\00:54:36.31 The story about another little boy. 00:54:37.66\00:54:39.64 Maybe it was Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories. 00:54:39.74\00:54:41.18 I don't know where I heard this story but it's just been in 00:54:41.29\00:54:43.24 my mind ever since. 00:54:43.34\00:54:44.71 A little boy desperately ill. 00:54:44.85\00:54:48.22 Doctors examine him and they discover that they need... 00:54:50.74\00:54:54.94 he, the boy, must have life-saving blood or it's over. 00:54:55.08\00:54:59.27 Now in a case where a child needs blood who do you... 00:54:59.64\00:55:03.24 whom is tested first? 00:55:03.54\00:55:05.52 Huh? Of course the mother. 00:55:05.82\00:55:07.90 The mother... she bore him. 00:55:08.20\00:55:09.59 DNA didn't work. 00:55:10.81\00:55:12.52 Next one would be? Papa. 00:55:12.82\00:55:14.75 Didn't work. 00:55:15.06\00:55:16.43 Next one? Little sister. It worked. Yeah. 00:55:16.86\00:55:21.59 The doctors were very pleased they found the lifesaver. 00:55:21.94\00:55:25.96 So they get down on their knees and the papa's there 00:55:26.26\00:55:28.50 and they say: "Now listen honey, we need your blood. 00:55:28.70\00:55:32.63 Take some of your blood... 00:55:33.86\00:55:35.23 you'll save your brother's life. 00:55:35.63\00:55:37.81 Would you be willing? " 00:55:38.01\00:55:39.38 She turned her little face away 00:55:39.51\00:55:42.35 lost in thought. 00:55:42.65\00:55:44.23 Finally she turns back and looks up into that ring of adults 00:55:44.63\00:55:47.61 staring down at her and she bobs her curls. 00:55:47.81\00:55:49.73 She would do it. 00:55:49.93\00:55:51.30 So they take her into the laboratory. You've given blood; 00:55:51.47\00:55:53.73 you know it is: chush, chush, chush... 00:55:53.83\00:55:55.20 and there it goes into that little plastic bag. 00:55:55.23\00:55:57.26 Lifesaving blood. 00:55:57.46\00:55:59.11 When the procedure is over hold that cotton swab. 00:55:59.41\00:56:02.60 As she's walking out of the lab beside her daddy 00:56:02.90\00:56:05.12 she reaches up and she tugs at her daddy's coat 00:56:05.42\00:56:07.91 and she says: "Papa, when will I die now? " 00:56:08.01\00:56:11.37 And like a bolt out of the blue it hit the dad: 00:56:14.85\00:56:20.20 she just went through that procedure believing 00:56:21.12\00:56:24.32 that she would die. 00:56:25.40\00:56:27.12 Ladies and gentlemen, I'm asking you a question right now: 00:56:27.32\00:56:29.33 did that little girl die for her brother? Yes or no. 00:56:29.63\00:56:33.42 Of course she did. 00:56:33.72\00:56:35.09 Where did she die? She died up here. 00:56:35.12\00:56:36.50 She paid the price: I'm dead... you live. 00:56:36.70\00:56:39.09 Did Jesus die the forever death? 00:56:39.49\00:56:41.67 Absolutely, yes He did... He died it up here. 00:56:42.07\00:56:45.15 "My God, You've cut Me off. " 00:56:45.36\00:56:47.04 He died it up here forever and ever. 00:56:47.34\00:56:51.24 He was willing to die forever 00:56:51.54\00:56:52.91 so that you and I might live forever. 00:56:53.03\00:56:55.58 He was willing to die forever 00:56:55.78\00:56:58.60 so that you and I might live forever. 00:56:58.81\00:57:01.59 There's only one word for that. 00:57:02.30\00:57:04.08 "For I am convinced that nothing in all creation 00:57:05.08\00:57:09.47 shall be able to separate us from the love of God 00:57:09.68\00:57:13.27 which is in Christ Jesus. " 00:57:13.47\00:57:15.76 Let's pray. 00:57:17.31\00:57:19.12 Oh God, that love: 00:57:19.42\00:57:22.61 that love that will not let us go, 00:57:22.81\00:57:24.75 that love that is ours forever and ever. 00:57:24.96\00:57:28.95 We bow in absolute... 00:57:29.15\00:57:32.20
