and I was visiting
a shooting gallery.

Not that I was shooting up

but I was bringing
Jesus to the shooting gallery.

And there were four young men

who would come
out to my meetings

and they were
mainline heroin addicts.
00:09:24.24\00:09:26.36
They started snorting
and then it burns tissue

and then their skin pop
00:09:29.31\00:09:30.40
and then they shoot
it directly in the vein
00:09:30.43\00:09:32.42
and then death.
00:09:32.45\00:09:37.29
And so I went to
visit these four boys

and I got to the
shooting gallery,

college shooting gallery
that's where they shoot up

and its usually vacant building

and when I got to the
door was off the chain hinges

and I stepped over
some of the drug addicts

that are half in and half out

and I found my boy sitting near.

And I sat down beside them
and I had my Bible with me.

I want to study the
Word of God with them

and they said man,
we're dead man walking.

What do you mean

He said well, it's a parable.

It's a story that
we addicts talk about.

It's about a young
man and this young man

he thought wow, it would be nice

if I could get
away from my problems,

if I could get away
from all my burdens,
00:10:23.04\00:10:24.67
all my troubles

and he's thinking
about all the things
00:10:26.05\00:10:27.57
that are
bothering him and he says,

well, I think I'll take a
walk into the into the jungle

or out into the
forest the jungle.
00:10:32.20\00:10:35.95
And so he says the
boy starts out in the path

and you know as he's
walking to the jungle

its kind of nice to
get away from his problems

and I mean, he is looking around

in all
everything look so beautiful

scurrying through the forest

is fascinated by it all

and then he notices this little
monkey playing in the tree.

at me, 20 year old boys, 21

tears in their eyes.

And this is in a young
man looked at the monkey

and he thought it
was a cute little monkey

and so we he took up a banana

and he offered it to the monkey

the monkey swung down
landed on the main shoulders.

And the man
thought wow, this is fun

and he started to
play with the money.

And he started
to feed the monkey.

And so it came time
that he had to leave

and so he tried to
get rid of the monkey

but the monkey wouldn't let go.

The monkey held on
tighter and wouldn't let go

and so the man thought
well, bring him with me.

And so he
started carry the monkey

and trying to find his
way back and-- excuse me,

he came to the crossroad
and took the wrong road

and deeper in the jungle

and there is this
monkey on his back.

And boys told me the
story they said preacher,

soon he was spending
more time feeding the money

than he was trying to
find his way back home.

And he said preacher,

the monkey grew
bigger and bigger

and it became bigger than a man

crashed him to the ground

and only then did it
leave him, dead on the ground.

That's why we say, we
have a monkey on our back.

a perfect example

He uses the

the glory of God."

All have sinned and come short.

Not only the drug addict
but the deacon in the church.

You see the
problem we face tonight

in the ghetto and its grief,

in the Middle Easton its hate.

In the cities of
America and their crime

I mean, all that
stems from the fact of sin.

And you see the politician

cannot solve the
problems in America

because the
problem is sin problem.

There is
something within our nature,

something within our heart

that brings us down
to the road to addiction

to this kind of
sinful addiction.

And so we have a monkey
and the drummer man's violence

and the crime we see
and the tears in the world

were written centuries
ago in the very early stages

of a man's
existence here in this planet.

I mean, virtue turn to
wise and love turns to hate

and righteousness
and sinfulness why,

because man habitually
denied the truth for error,

our first parents

according to
scripture and Genesis chose

to inject into the
nature the heroin of hate

and the marijuana maliciousness
and sin in the universe began.

It began just as
an innocent thought.

desire within the heart.
