choose from, praise God.

to one of the stations

and it's quite a ways away

said: "How did that happen? "

that she got really irritated

When I was pastoring the
Ephesus Church in New York

it was a church that for
some reason attracted a lot of

celebrities. There were
a number of people from the

industry who came on Sabbath.
Some were friends of Adventists.

Others ex-Adventists.
But there was this group of
00:20:41.60\00:20:45.80
young people - we were
all much younger then -
00:20:46.00\00:20:49.01
who came to church and in
that group was Yvonne Lewis.
00:20:50.04\00:20:54.73
She was yet to
be Dr. Yvonne Lewis.
00:20:54.83\00:20:56.62
She was just
Yvonne Lewis, singer.

And they would come
00:20:59.57\00:21:03.52
and they would sit
and open their Bibles

and take notes. And each
week this group of young people

who were some on
Broadway, some in movies,

some were jingle singers.
And the group grew and grew
00:21:15.59\00:21:18.69
and they would come
to church each Sabbath.

Well, we began to baptize
some of those individuals.

And I was very impressed
because these then young people
00:21:23.83\00:21:28.83
decided once they got
baptized that if they were doing
00:21:29.04\00:21:32.31
jingles there were certain
things they would no longer
00:21:32.51\00:21:34.76
sing for. They weren't
going to sing for cigarettes;
00:21:34.86\00:21:36.81
they weren't going
to sing for alcohol;
00:21:37.01\00:21:38.27
they weren't going
to sing for tobacco.
00:21:38.37\00:21:39.87
And so all of these young
people took quite a strong hit

in their salaries. They
paid for their faith right away.

And at the head of
that group was Yvonne Lewis.

I talked with her, I
talked with Darrell, Ullanda,

so many of these young people
who were singing in the world

but decided to turn
their back on the world

when they accepted Jesus.

And so I was very
impressed with that.

At the head of that group
as I said was Yvonne Lewis.

We had a Bible study on Friday
nights, and I would get there

about 6 or 7 o'clock and
sometimes that Bible study

would go to 2 or 3
o'clock in the morning.

These young people were
hungry for the Word of God.

And then go home,
shower a little bit,

and then be back in church
at 6 AM for Sabbath School

teachers' meeting. So Sabbath
School was very very long

in the Ephesus Church. But
these young people spread out

and when they came to the
Lord they went and got other
00:22:30.16\00:22:32.43
young people. And that
was back in the mid 80's.

And Yvonne and I kept
in touch all these years.

I just had the feeling
that if I could get her to 3ABN

that God had
something for her to do.

I did not know that
she had sung for Jim Gilley

as he was pastoring in Texas.

But Danny did not know her,

and I just thought: "If I could
kind of get her in front of

Danny that somehow
there'd be some click. "

And I just felt
God wanted her here.

And so I arranged for her
to sing at a live broadcast

we had in Pennsylvania and
I asked Danny at the end...

Said: "Danny,
what'd you think? "

And he was like:
"Hyh... she's OK. "

That didn't work. So later
on we brought her out here.

And I was away
when she came and sang.

And that morning
Danny called me on the phone

and Danny said: "You
know, this girl can really sing!

She's pretty good. " I said:
"I was trying to tell you that

two years ago when you said
'Hyh, she's not so good. ' "

But then we felt that
God just wanted her here,

and it appeared in the
minds of several individuals

that if we could get her
connected with this new urban

because of the connections

she brought. And sure enough,

Dream became a reality

fabulous job... almost a one man

full network together
