was a man of the Pharisees,

to Jesus by" what?

Nicodemus as

his name is mentioned,

Nicodemus here in
verse 1, is a Pharisee,

understanding the Pharisees,

they were not church officials.

It is, thus probably more
of the Sadducees were priest

but these
Pharisees were businessmen,

they were upper class

and they were
very, very spiritual

and there living more
conservative in their leanings.

Here in verse 1, he
is a ruler of the Jews,

and in Desire of Ages he
was a very capable leader.

And perhaps once a year he
had, he go to ASI, I don't know.

Perhaps he is
part of the leader--

he is the ruler of the Jews.

He was someone
who can move and shake

and he was top notch guy.

And something
about the Pharisees were,

at an early age they
had memorized scripture.

He was part of the
culture at that day.

The education system,

that many children of the age 12

had to memorized
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus,

Numbers and Deuteronomy.

And for those
who were successful,

would graduate to the
secondary level of education

and memorize from
Judges to Malachi.

By the time they finished

the memorizing
the Old Testament,

they would look
for Rabbis to follow.

And the Rabbi would
ask them many questions

and they pass these
questions, the Rabbis would say,

two words, a two word statement.

which basically
meant, you graduated.

You will now become my disciple.

This will make sense,
when the 12 disciples,

when Jesus came to

Here verse 1, Nicodemus
is one of those Pharisees

and he's memorized huge portions

if not the entire Old Testament.

Now, I would submit you
today at something Adventist,

we need to become a
people that knows our scripture.
