That's a big responsibility.
That's a huge ministry.

What we were seeing
is that, more every week,

more and more people
with the economic downturn.

We were finding that
families, a typical families,

I mean people who had
jobs are now homeless.

And, now in the inner
cities, we're not talking about
00:05:33.58\00:05:35.87
like nationally 9
and 10% unemployment.
00:05:35.90\00:05:38.78
We're talking about
14 to 16% unemployment.

So these people are
coming for groceries

every week to be fed

to be able to take
care of their families.

I want you to
think about a church

and how big our church--

our church is a
4,000 member church,

Seventh-day Adventist church.

And we had lines.

People would
lineup from in the morning

and lineup all
around the building.

There will be
people with families

with children in their hands,

with baby carriages
waiting to get some food.

worked with you in ASI

I know you've a real
burden for the health message

and you had the
health expo panels.

How have you been able to take
the food program and expand it

to make it a health
evangelism program as well?

Well, as we saw
this week after week,

I had a burden in my heart

that these people
are coming to our church.

These families
many of them don't know

who we are or that we
even have a health message,

who the Adventist church is.

They were just
coming to meet their needs.

And we start of
how can we do that

by bringing our
health ministry into it.

Now the problem was the building

was completely
taken over with food.

There is not an
ounce of space anywhere.

They said Dr. Wallace,

"We don't have any
space for you inside."

And that Lord impressed
me to say you know what?

"I don't need to be inside.
I'll take a tent outside."

And we erected a tent outside

and we started to do
health screenings outside

in the hot weather.

These people are
feeling the heat out there

even without
being on to the tent.

It was actually a
welcoming thing to them--

for them to come and
sit down for a minute

and get under a tent sometimes.

And we found people with
very, very dire health problems.

People, people young people

with skyrocketing
high blood pressure

and bad and very high
blood glucose levels and so on,

that we were able to
then start to talk about.

You know, we can help you

if you would like

They didn't know it
was going to be vegan food

but they all came.

And then they tasted
it and they said, "Wow,

You're telling me
there is no meat in this.

And we explained and
then we go into our classes

and teach them
the Ten Health Laws.

And as a result of that,

people are actually
changing and understanding--

they didn't even know
some of these folks where just

actually let them
sample with soymilk taste like.

They had no idea that there were
other alternatives to dairy.

So it's just been
a wonderful ministry.

surprised in a ministry

us from time to time

and just opens a
door with someone

we would
normally have never met.

Yeah, so we advertised

and a lady was
actually coming on our way

she said to a jazz festival.

And then the jazz
festival got canceled

and then she
heard our advertisement.

So she turned her car
around and came to our church.

It was her first time
00:08:55.13\00:08:56.17
she had stepped forth into a
Seventh-day Adventist church.

She had no idea
what she was in for.

But as a result of
coming to our church,

she joined our program
and she had diabetes problems

since she wasn't
overweight or anything.

But her doctor just couldn't
get her diabetes under control.

And as a result of following
our healthy lifestyle practices,

she is now got in
control of her diabetes

and she is now
visiting our church. Amen.

emphasis of our church

needing to work for cities,

Yes, yes this is something
I feel a burden to express

having been in the
health ministry of our church

and I know that
sometimes we have these programs

and we try to
reach the community

and we sometimes fall short

and we get
disappointed sometimes

when only a
handful of people come out.

But we have a
lot of our churches

are actually doing
food distributions.

Maybe not on the large
scale that our church is but--

we have those
kinds of availability

to do these ministries.

we don't sometimes
couple these ministries.

Like we were so
happy that we found a way

to be able to be a part
of the food distribution.

And I think that is something
that I want people to think of.

How can we work together
with the other ministries

that we have in our church

to get our health
message out there?

Okay, so it's
wonderful to feed people

but we want to go further

approach getting to screen them,

helping them with
their total lifestyle.

Helps us also get to their

Yes, our ministry
actually, we got funded to do

a child with
obesity prevention program

and as a result of this program,

we have been to
reach out to people

and bring them in as families
to learn our healthy lifestyle.

We have one
particular young man,

his mother
brought him to the class

because he was very
overweight, obese you might say.

And he was having
struggles and his mom says,

"I just can't feed him enough.
00:11:07.48\00:11:08.91
He just keeps
eating, eating, eating.
00:11:08.94\00:11:11.04
And I said, "You know what,
00:11:11.07\00:11:12.10
maybe it's what
you are feeding him."

It's not necessarily that,

you know, we have
very large appetite.

Sometimes what we are feeding
our children in not filling.

And so as we brought her

through the
program that helped her.

She actually is now just
so happy that he is gone,

his weight under
control and he is eating better

in the middle of a snowstorm.

Detroit with such devastation

and we know we
had to do something.

So God was drawing us to
do something for these people

and we just felt
a need to step out

and lift Jesus Christ up.

some of the programs

running from your office?

We have a Thursday night,

Bible study group that meets
every single Thursday night.

We have a food fellowship first
