00:20 Good evening.
00:22 We being our hymn fest tonight energetically 00:25 with the song called "Lift up the Trumpet." 00:28 Its vivid prophetic text has long been 00:30 a favorite among Adventists. 00:32 In fact, the first stanza and refrain 00:35 with the heart of the voice of prophecies 00:36 radio theme songs starting 75 years ago 00:40 but its stirring use by Adventists 00:42 goes back half a century longer. 00:45 At least to the Adventist book, Hymns and Tunes in 1886. 00:51 We follow historic generations of Adventists 00:54 singing the bold message, "Lift up the Trumpet." 01:30 Lift up the trumpet, and loud let it ring 01:35 Jesus is coming again 01:40 Cheer up, ye pilgrims, be joyful and sing 01:45 Jesus is coming again 01:50 Coming again, coming again 01:55 Jesus is coming again 02:02 Echo it, hilltops, proclaim it, ye plains 02:07 Jesus is coming again 02:12 Coming in glory, the Lamb that was slain 02:17 Jesus is coming again 02:22 Coming again, coming again 02:27 Jesus is coming again 02:35 Jesus is coming again soon. 02:37 Now, "You Will See Your Lord A-Coming," 02:40 This song was widely known 02:41 and loved among Miller Wright believers. 02:43 These followers of William Miller believed 02:46 that Christ would return in 1843 or 1844. 02:50 It was said that this was sung by Sir Miller Wright 02:53 at the graves of deceased friends and relatives 02:57 hoping to ascend to heaven with them 02:59 following their resurrection. 03:01 James White describing the effectives 03:04 singing a stanza of a different version of this 03:07 to begin a meeting in May in 1843, said, 03:10 "There was in those days a power 03:13 in what was called Advent singing 03:16 such as was felt in no other." 03:43 You will see your Lord a-coming 03:46 You will see your Lord a-coming 03:48 You will see your Lord a-coming 03:51 In a few more days 03:55 Hear the band of music 03:57 Hear the band of music 04:00 Hear the band of music 04:03 Which is sounding through the air 04:07 Gabriel sounds his mighty trumpet 04:09 Gabriel sounds his mighty trumpet 04:12 Gabriel sounds his mighty trumpet 04:14 In a few more days 04:18 Hear the band of music 04:21 Hear the band of music 04:23 Hear the band of music 04:26 Which is sounding through the air 04:30 Then we'll shout, our sufferings over 04:32 Then we'll shout, our sufferings over 04:35 Then we'll shout, our sufferings over 04:37 In a few more days 04:41 Hear the band of music 04:44 Hear the band of music 04:46 Hear the band of music 04:49 Which is sounding through the air 04:54 Songs they truly stir the heart. 04:56 Another one is a song called "How Far from Home" 05:01 Annie Smith wrote these words, 05:03 the words to this song in 1853. 05:06 She had been a follower of William Miller 05:09 but after the great disappointment she fell away. 05:12 That is the great disappointment of October 1844. 05:15 However, seven years later 05:18 both she and Joseph Bates dreamed 05:22 that Joseph Bates would preach 05:24 a certain sermon in a certain place 05:26 and Annie would arrive at that sermon late 05:30 and would sit by a certain door. 05:32 The dream was fulfilled and Annie Smith reconsidered 05:37 and joined Sabbath believing Adventists three weeks later. 05:42 Her hymns were first two Isaiah's words, 05:45 "Watchman, what of the night?" 05:47 The watchman said, "The morning cometh." 06:33 How far from home? I asked, as on 06:37 I bent my steps, the watchman spake 06:42 The long, dark night is almost gone 06:46 The morning soon shall break 06:51 Then weep no more, but speed thy flight 06:55 With Hope's bright star thy guiding ray 07:00 Till thou shalt reach the realms of light 07:05 In everlasting day 07:12 I asked the warrior on the field 07:16 This was his soul, inspiring song 07:21 With courage bold, the sword I'll wield 07:26 The battle is not long 07:30 Then weep no more, but well endure 07:35 The conflict, till thy work is done 07:39 For this we know, the prize is sure 07:44 When victory is won 07:51 I asked again the sea and sun 07:56 Seemed, with one voice, to make reply 08:01 Time's wasting sands are nearly run 08:05 Eternity is nigh 08:10 Then weep no more with warning tones 08:15 Portentous sights are thick'ning round 08:20 The whole creation, waiting, groans 08:25 To hear the trumpet sound 08:31 Not far from home! O blessed thought! 08:36 The traveler's lonely heart to cheer 08:41 Which oft healing balm has brought 08:45 And dried the mourner's tear 08:50 Then weep no more, since we shall meet 08:55 Where weary footsteps never roam 08:59 Our trials past, our joys complete 09:04 Safe in our Father's home 09:12 In his spiritual folk songs of early America, 09:16 George Pullen Jackson said of this next song, 09:20 "O, When Shall I See Jesus." 09:21 He said, this is one of the best examples 09:25 of the revival spiritual songs. 09:27 It has the words of John Leland 09:29 or it has the John Leland words of matchless popularity 09:33 in the Sothern song region are refrain in clarion tones. 09:39 Author John Leland was an itinerant 09:42 Baptist New England preacher who preached in Virginia. 09:46 As a strong champion of religious liberty 09:48 Leland had an impact on the introduction 09:50 of America's first Amendment to the constitution. 09:54 B. F. White of Georgia contributed a part of the hymn, 09:57 attributed to 1847 and this hymn bears 10:01 some strong similarities 10:02 to African-American spiritual words. 10:36 O, when shall I see Jesus and reign with Him above 10:40 And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning 10:45 And from the flowing fountain drink everlasting love 10:50 And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning 10:55 O, shout, glory 10:57 For I shall mount above the skies 11:00 When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:06 Gird on the gospel armor of faith and hope and love 11:11 And you'll hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:16 And when the combat's ended He'll carry you above 11:20 And you'll hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:25 O, shout, glory 11:27 For I shall mount above the skies 11:30 When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:36 Our ears shall hear with transport 11:39 the host of heaven sings 11:41 And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:46 Our tongues shall chant the glories of our immortal King 11:51 And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning 11:56 O, shout, glory 11:58 For I shall mount above the skies 12:00 When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning 12:13 The gentle lilting melody of "How Sweet Are the Tidings" 12:18 lines of touching tetanus to the words. 12:21 In this song a specially moving is a reference 12:24 to mossy old graves 12:27 that shall open up the glorious return of Jesus. 12:31 The melody appeared in Second Advent hymn book in 1867. 12:36 One commentary says, "This anonymous hymn 12:40 of the early Adventist contrasts the loneliness, 12:45 sorrow and death of this earthly life 12:48 with the glorious hope of the soon coming of Jesus." 13:36 How sweet are the tidings that greet the pilgrim's ear 13:41 As he wanders in exile from home 13:46 Soon, soon will the Savior in glory appear 13:51 And soon will the kingdom come 13:57 He's coming, coming, coming soon I know 14:02 Coming back to this earth again 14:08 And the weary pilgrims will to glory go 14:15 When the Savior comes to reign 14:21 The mossy old graves where the pilgrims sleep 14:27 Shall be open as wide as before 14:32 And the millions that sleep in the mighty deep 14:37 Shall live on this earth once more 14:43 He's coming, coming, coming soon I know 14:48 Coming back to this earth again 14:54 And the weary pilgrims will to glory go 15:01 When the Savior comes to reign 15:08 There we'll meet ne'er to part in our happy Eden home 15:13 Sweet songs of redemption we'll sing 15:18 From the north, from the south, all the ransomed shall come 15:23 And worship our heavenly King 15:28 He's coming, coming, coming soon I know 15:34 Coming back to this earth again 15:40 And the weary pilgrims will to glory go 15:47 When the Savior comes to reign 15:53 Hallelujah, Amen! Hallelujah again 15:58 Soon, if faithful, we all shall be there 16:03 O, be watchful, be hopeful, be joyful till then 16:09 And a crown of bright glory we'll wear 16:14 He's coming, coming, coming soon I know 16:19 Coming back to this earth again 16:25 And the weary pilgrims will to glory go 16:33 When the Savior comes to reign 16:41 There's just something about the early Advent hymns 16:44 that stir the heart. 16:46 It seems like almost nothing else can. 16:49 And now, "Lo, What a Glorious Sight Appears." 16:55 This colorful hymn was written by Isaac Watts 16:59 or perhaps I am supposed to say that Isaac Watts 17:01 was a colorful hymn writer, either way. 17:04 He in fact composes the stanzas 17:06 which refer to Revelation 21:1-4. 17:10 The joyous refrain that is sung was not by Watts. 17:14 It has been said that in the early days of Adventism 17:18 this text was sung with great enthusiasm 17:22 at prayer meetings and camp meetings. 17:25 Now would you please note that after singing verse 3, 17:29 after singing verse 3 we invite you to hymn quietly 17:34 the melody of that next refrain. 17:37 That next refrain which is following verse 3 17:42 is hymning only to be accompanied by the organ. 18:39 Lo, what a glorious sight appears 18:42 To our believing eyes 18:45 The earth and seas are passed away 18:49 And the old rolling skies 18:52 And the old rolling skies 18:56 And the old rolling skies 18:59 The earth and seas are passed away 19:02 And the old rolling skies 19:06 O that will be joyful, joyful, joyful 19:13 O that will be joyful 19:16 When we meet to part no more 19:19 When we meet to part no more 19:22 On Canaan's happy shore 19:26 'Tis there we'll meet at Jesus' feet 19:29 When we meet to part no more 19:34 Attending angels shout for joy 19:37 And the bright armies sing 19:40 Mortals! Behold the sacred seat 19:44 Of your descending King 19:47 Of your descending King 19:51 Of your descending King 19:54 Mortals! Behold the sacred seat 19:57 Of your descending King 20:01 O that will be joyful, joyful, joyful 20:08 O that will be joyful 20:11 When we meet to part no more 20:14 When we meet to part no more 20:18 On Canaan's happy shore 20:21 'Tis there we'll meet at Jesus' feet 20:25 When we meet to part no more 20:29 His own soft hand shall wipe the tears 20:33 From every weeping eye 20:37 And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears 20:41 And death itself shall die 20:44 And death itself shall die 20:48 And death itself shall die 20:52 And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears 20:56 And death itself shall die 21:49 How long, dear Savior! Oh, how long 21:53 Shall this bright hour delay 21:57 Fly swifter round, ye wheels of time 22:00 And bring the welcome day 22:04 And bring the welcome day 22:08 And bring the welcome day 22:12 Fly swifter round, ye wheels of time 22:15 And bring the welcome day 22:20 O that will be joyful, joyful, joyful 22:27 O that will be joyful 22:31 When we meet to part no more 22:35 When we meet to part no more 22:38 On Canaan's happy shore 22:42 'Tis there we'll meet at Jesus' feet 22:46 When we meet to part no more 22:53 And now we turn to a reflective peace, 22:56 a reflective peace which also happens 22:58 to be just about my favorite hymn, 23:02 "What Heavenly Music." 23:04 James White published these words in 1849 23:07 in a pocketsize book containing 53 hymn texts. 23:13 Now these words used the imagery of crossing the Jordan 23:16 to represent crossing over into heaven. 23:19 The gentle melody which this evening, 23:23 this evening we use for stanza three 23:28 is the only that is similar in its historical appearance 23:32 in the or to the Adventist hymnal, 23:35 hymns and tunes in 1886. 23:38 However, we hear the historic words of the first two stanzas 23:42 with a new melody composed just this year especially for them. 23:48 You are invited to join in singing stanza three 23:52 with the historic melody. 23:54 This is "What Heavenly Music." 24:08 What heavenly music 24:13 stirs over the sea! 24:19 Entrancing the senses 24:24 like sweet melody! 24:31 'Tis the voice of the angels, 24:39 borne soft on the air 24:45 For me they are singing 24:51 their welcome I hear 24:59 On the banks of old Jordan, 25:05 here gazing I stand 25:10 And earnestly longing, 25:15 I stretch forth my hand 25:21 Send a convoy of angels, dear Jesus, I pray! 25:37 Let me join that sweet music 25:51 come, take me away 26:08 Though dark are the waters 26:12 and rough is the wave 26:18 If Jesus permit, 26:22 the wild surges I'll brave 26:28 For that heavenly music 26:33 hath ravished me so 26:40 I must join in that chorus 26:45 I'll go! Let me go 26:55 And now we move from reflection to infectious joy. 27:02 The hymn "Joy By and By" 27:04 is by Ellen White's nephew F. E. Belden. 27:08 It was published in that long time favorite in Adventism, 27:10 Christ in Song in 1905 and in 1908. 27:15 So it is newer than much of what we have been singing tonight. 27:19 Its first stanza uses a figure of speech about reaping 27:24 while the other stanzas are very literal 27:27 about the fabulous prayers and joys 27:30 of the New Jerusalem, "Joy By and By." 28:13 O there'll be joy when the work is done 28:17 Joy when the reapers gather home 28:22 Bringing the sheaves at set of sun 28:26 To the New Jerusalem 28:31 Joy, joy, joy, there'll be joy by and by 28:35 Joy, joy, joy, where the joys never die 28:40 Joy, joy, joy, for the day draweth nigh 28:44 When the workers gather home 28:50 Sweet are the songs that we hope to sing 28:54 Grateful the thanks our hearts shall bring 28:59 Praising forever Christ our King 29:03 In the New Jerusalem 29:08 Joy, joy, joy, there'll be joy by and by 29:13 Joy, joy, joy, where the joys never die 29:17 Joy, joy, joy, for the day draweth nigh 29:21 When the workers gather home 29:27 Pure are the joys that await us there 29:32 Many the golden mansions fair 29:36 Jesus Himself doth them prepare 29:40 In the New Jerusalem 29:45 Joy, joy, joy, there'll be joy by and by 29:50 Joy, joy, joy, where the joys never die 29:54 Joy, joy, joy, for the day draweth nigh 29:58 When the workers gather home 30:06 We transition now to very recent history 30:11 or more recent history, at least 30:14 with "We Have This Hope" 30:17 Wayne Hooper wrote this vibrant hymn for the session 30:20 of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventists 30:22 held in San Francisco in the year 1962. 30:27 Today it still resounds as one of the most 30:29 representative songs of Adventist hope. 30:32 And it's sung widely in many languages. 30:35 "We Have This Hope," standing together. 30:37 Let's stand and sing. 31:08 We have this hope 31:11 that burns within our hearts 31:16 Hope in the coming of the Lord 31:24 We have this faith that Christ alone imparts 31:31 Faith in the promise of His Word 31:39 We believe the time is here 31:43 When the nations far and near 31:47 Shall awake, and shout and sing 31:51 Hallelujah! Christ is King 31:59 We have this hope 32:02 that burns within our hearts 32:08 Hope in the coming of the Lord 32:24 And we hope that hope is yours tonight. 32:26 Thank you, God bless you. Please be seated. 32:35 Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 32:38 Dear Lord, what a beautiful concert we've had. 32:42 Oh, how we look forward to the time 32:43 when we are in heaven and we can sing with the angels. 32:47 We thank You, for the beautiful Sabbath that is coming. 32:50 We know how much You love us 32:52 because You are our Savior, our King 32:55 and our Redeemer and our best friend. 32:58 So I pray dear Lord that You would send your Holy Spirit 33:01 to be with each one of the singers, the speakers 33:05 and each one of us that are here 33:07 that we will gain a rich blessing, 33:09 continue to be with the AFI. 33:12 Guide and direct each ministry that is here. 33:15 Lead them that we may be willing to do 33:19 all we can to see You come very soon. 33:23 Thank You, so much dear Lord for your great love to us. 33:27 Place Your arms around us, keep us safe. 33:30 In Your name, amen. 33:46 Good evening and greetings from the ASI Youth Convention. 33:50 This evening we are going to bring you 33:53 a brief presentation from each of our youth departments. 33:57 But before we began, Shaya, 34:00 can you please tell us 34:02 why do we have an ASI Youth Convention? 34:06 ASI has a Youth Convention 34:09 because we know that God loves young people 34:13 and we love young people too. 34:15 And want to provide them 34:16 with an opportunity and an environment 34:19 in which they can connect with God 34:22 and commit and re-commit their hearts to Him. 34:25 As the Bible puts it to, remember their creator 34:28 in the days of their youth. That's right. 34:31 And, Shaya, can you tell us 34:34 what goes on in the ASI Youth Convention? 34:37 Lots of things. 34:39 We've had a great time upstairs 34:43 with mission speakers and music and crafts, activities. 34:49 Lots of special speakers and not only that 34:52 we had the privilege, 34:53 most of the young people were able to go off site 34:56 to the creation museum which is nearby 34:59 and that was a great experience for them. 35:01 That's right. 35:02 And, Shaya, do the young people enjoy ASI? 35:06 Absolutely. Kids love ASI. 35:09 And I think you will be able to see that 35:11 on their faces as they come up on the stage 35:14 over the next few minutes. 35:16 That's right and now you are going to have an opportunity 35:19 to see our each of our divisions 35:22 and see what everyone has been doing so far this week. 35:28 Good evening. Amen. 46:17 I would hope so. 46:19 I am here with some friends from the early teen class. 46:23 We've been up there teaching and grinding 46:27 in the minds of the young people 46:28 that they must stand against the current. 46:32 So I am here with my friend Keya 46:34 and Hope and Caleb. 46:37 And I am just going to ask them a few questions 46:39 because they need to share with you themselves 46:41 what they have been learning. 46:42 So my first question is, friends, 46:46 what was the most impactful aspect 46:50 of the classes of your time this week at early teens? 46:56 Well, for me actually it was everything. 46:59 Like the sermons, the meetings, 47:02 the music, the up lifting activities, 47:06 the offsite activity today 47:08 everything to me was just like amazing. 47:11 I mean, I wish that ASI could go on for another week. 47:14 And I mean, I have absolutely loved this. 47:16 I've gained such a spiritual blessing this year. 47:21 For me it was as early teens 47:25 with God's help we can change the world 47:27 and we can be good on missionaries for Him 47:33 even in our own homes 47:34 and also I thought was really interesting was 47:38 prayer is very powerful 47:40 especially when you get a group of people together. 47:42 You can see amazing things get done. 47:46 I really like the offsite activity today 47:49 but I really, really like whenever Don McIntosh came 47:53 and talk to us about his testimony. 47:56 It was really just very powerful 48:00 how all the things that he went through 48:03 and how he went through them with God or without God 48:07 but it was very, very good. 48:13 All right, thank you. Now my second question. 48:17 If anything based on what you've learned, 48:19 based on the challenges that were put before you this week, 48:22 what are you personally going to change 48:25 in your own spiritual walk with Christ? 48:29 Well, in my walk I am convinced 48:32 that I need to spend more time in prayer, 48:35 I want to spend deeper time in God's word 48:38 and I want to like gain more from it. 48:41 So I really want to go home 48:44 and apply all the things that we learn to my life. 48:49 I made personal decision to add extra time to my worship 48:53 and to spend more time with God 48:56 in studying His word because we really need to know it. 48:59 I also decided to spend more time in prayer with God 49:03 and reading His word and singing. 49:07 I really like singing. 49:10 Amen. Thank you. 49:11 And my last question. 49:13 This is your opportunity, 49:15 do you have a specific pointed appeal 49:18 for the family at ASI, for the young people at ASI 49:23 that you want to personally extend to them at this time? 49:27 If you will pray for us in the early teen department 49:30 for tomorrow at Sabbath 49:33 because amazing things are happening 49:35 in the early teen department. 49:37 I mean, the appeals and stuff, 49:38 almost every single early teen goes down. 49:43 All mine is be ready because Jesus is coming soon. 49:48 Mine is always be faithful to God 49:51 and He will guide you in all your steps 49:54 and spend more time with God, it will help you a lot. 50:00 All right. So a hardy amen for the early teens. 50:04 The group is learning and God's name is praised. 50:08 As we know and understand that time is very short 50:12 and we have a personal responsibility 50:15 as men and women, parents 50:17 and servants of the Lord to support our young people 50:20 to the will of Him that sent us and to finish His work. Amen. 50:34 Hello, I am Joshua Plohocky. 50:36 We are here to represent the youth division 50:39 and as many of you know there is a real war 50:42 raging within our church. 50:44 And that war is over our mind. It's over what we believe. 50:47 And what we wanted to do in our youth group this year 50:50 was to emphasize that war 50:52 and try to address some of the things that have been 50:55 causing our young people to leave the church. 50:59 And so we have here a few examples 51:01 of some of these young people 51:03 that want to share their experiences. 51:06 Right, Joshua, it's been a really exciting, 51:08 powerful weekend so far 51:10 and I am so excited that it's not over yet, 51:12 we still have a day. 51:13 So I know that we are going to be even more of us. 51:17 Joshua, you want to share something with us? 51:20 Yeah, well, today and yesterday morning 51:25 Pastor Christian Berdahl, Christian Berdahl, 51:29 he came and he talked to us about 51:31 the music and things like that 51:34 and I think it was really interesting 51:37 on how the lyrics of the songs are not the important part 51:41 but the important part is about the beat 51:43 and the things like that which messes with your emotions 51:45 and your hormones and everything. 51:47 It changes your thinking from your frontal lobe 51:51 and basically turns it off 51:52 after a certain amount of sync repeated beats. 51:54 And all that it makes you feel more aware 51:57 of what you are listening to 51:59 and what you should be listening to. 52:04 On Thursday we visited a creation museum 52:07 and I personally have never been to creation museum. 52:13 I am home schooled and of course 52:15 always learn science from creations point of view 52:18 but I am used to going to museum 52:22 and having to shut my mind to all the evolutionist ideas. 52:25 And it was so refreshing to go and to see 52:27 how some people are actually dedicate 52:30 to bringing real scientific facts 52:34 about how God create everything 52:35 and new things about how the flood created 52:39 things like the Grand Canyon rapidly 52:41 and how the evolutionary prospective 52:45 is slowly being taken apart by people 52:49 who really know how to scientifically investigate 52:52 with God blessing their decisions. 52:57 God evening, I am going to kind of share my experience. 53:02 Dwayne Lemon came and talked to the youth group 53:05 and I had never heard him before 53:07 until I came to ASI Youth for Jesus. 53:11 And he talked to us and he just shared 53:13 so much about the Bible and let me tell you, 53:16 if you can not prove what you believe in the Bible 53:19 you need to go and find it. 53:21 He talked about the sanctuary 53:23 and how God came and uses it for our salvation. 53:27 And it's amazing and if you ever get the chance 53:30 to listen to one of his sermons I highly encourage it. 53:35 So we had an amazing time with him 53:38 and he shared all about the sanctuary 53:41 and he is coming back tomorrow night 53:43 to the youth group and tell us even more. 53:45 Thank you. Amen. |
