Good evening ASI. 00:04:03.10\00:04:08.44 Have you had a good time so far? 00:04:08.47\00:04:12.23 I don't know if you really have or not? 00:04:12.26\00:04:15.55 All right. I have with me Dan Whatley. 00:04:15.58\00:04:18.76 Dan, where are you from? 00:04:18.79\00:04:20.01 I'm from Palmer, Alaska. 00:04:20.04\00:04:21.83 All right. So how long have you lived in Palmer, Alaska? 00:04:21.86\00:04:26.25 Born and raised there, lived my whole life in Alaska. 00:04:26.28\00:04:29.09 Native Alaskan. I guess so. 00:04:29.12\00:04:31.76 All right, so tell me a little bit 00:04:31.79\00:04:34.49 of what you do in Alaska? 00:04:34.52\00:04:36.48 Well, that would be a long story but the short version 00:04:36.51\00:04:38.94 is I have been a bush pilot, guide, lodge owner, contractor, 00:04:38.97\00:04:46.39 literature evangelist publishing director, 00:04:46.42\00:04:48.74 mission pilot and now I'm working, 00:04:48.77\00:04:51.92 I've got-I've retired, I sold my business. 00:04:51.95\00:04:53.84 I don't like to use the word retired, I sold my business. 00:04:53.87\00:04:56.89 This guy is not retired. I'm no longer 00:04:56.92\00:04:58.09 under the tyranny of the urgent, 00:04:58.12\00:05:00.01 that mean that's a different thing. 00:05:00.04\00:05:01.68 And so, but I can't sit around, 00:05:01.71\00:05:03.57 so I got involved in another company right away 00:05:03.60\00:05:05.49 start up company called the tele paper and so I'm here 00:05:05.52\00:05:08.42 our booth is at number 744 and I just brought out a sample 00:05:08.45\00:05:13.66 of what we are doing, one of the things we are doing. 00:05:13.69\00:05:16.74 And tele paper is about making paper intelligent 00:05:16.77\00:05:19.53 and this is a Bible course enrollment card 00:05:19.56\00:05:23.32 from Voice of Prophecy and on the bottom of this card, 00:05:23.35\00:05:26.17 is till tear off strip, and that tear off strip has a paper 00:05:26.20\00:05:30.98 or printed on thumb drive so on that thumb drive 00:05:31.01\00:05:34.54 you can stick it in your USB port and it will give you 00:05:34.57\00:05:38.82 lesson number one you fill that out 00:05:38.85\00:05:40.38 and it will connect you directly to Voice of Prophecy 00:05:40.41\00:05:42.70 and you can take the course online. 00:05:42.73\00:05:44.55 So that's the-- that's one of the samples 00:05:44.58\00:05:46.77 of the things that we are doing. 00:05:46.80\00:05:47.86 Now folks, this is a piece of paper that's amazing technology 00:05:47.89\00:05:51.15 that is been developed right here 00:05:51.18\00:05:54.23 from a Seventh-day Adventist group. 00:05:54.26\00:05:55.81 Yes. So, beyond the paper you saw 00:05:55.84\00:06:00.32 a special need in your area and tell me a little bit 00:06:00.35\00:06:03.66 about that, how you and especially for men? 00:06:03.69\00:06:07.21 Okay. Well, we were, you know, 00:06:07.24\00:06:09.32 we always have the annual men's retreat. 00:06:09.35\00:06:11.05 We have been doing that for years in Alaska. 00:06:11.08\00:06:14.00 But you know we live in the most beautiful state 00:06:14.03\00:06:15.97 in union, my opinion, sorry. 00:06:16.00\00:06:18.35 It is beautiful. 00:06:18.38\00:06:20.40 You will be coming soon, so we'll win you over too. 00:06:20.43\00:06:23.01 But, we--one of the men's retreat I think around 2004 00:06:23.04\00:06:27.22 we got to talking, few of us started talking, 00:06:27.25\00:06:29.26 said, why are we doing this in a building on a road system 00:06:29.29\00:06:33.17 in a hotel or church camp, somewhere on the road system. 00:06:33.20\00:06:36.20 Why don't we get back out into the wilderness? 00:06:36.23\00:06:38.92 And so, the next year we started doing the men's retreat 00:06:38.95\00:06:41.64 in the wilderness of Alaska, not the easiest place to get to, 00:06:41.67\00:06:46.87 but that's part of the attraction, 00:06:46.90\00:06:49.24 it's not only an event. 00:06:49.27\00:06:50.96 It's a destination because you can either fly to it and land 00:06:50.99\00:06:54.47 on a short airstrip with bad approaches on each end, 00:06:54.50\00:06:57.67 that appeals to bush pilots or you can take your four wheeler 00:06:57.70\00:07:01.62 and four wheel in, or you can mountain bike in or hike in. 00:07:01.65\00:07:04.86 And if you go to booth 222, the Alaskan Conference booth, 00:07:04.89\00:07:09.42 you will see a friend of mine there Ryan Wooller, 00:07:09.45\00:07:11.32 he can tell you about hiking in this year. 00:07:11.35\00:07:13.00 So, it's doable for many different, you know, 00:07:13.03\00:07:16.07 modes of transportation but that's part of the excitement 00:07:16.10\00:07:18.82 and that's what guys really get into is getting out 00:07:18.85\00:07:21.48 in the wilderness and you know 00:07:21.51\00:07:23.31 being challenged with something. 00:07:23.34\00:07:25.01 Now, in the photos that you have had there on the screen, 00:07:25.04\00:07:28.11 we saw some familiar faces. 00:07:28.14\00:07:30.86 So, this is not only a ministry for your local people 00:07:30.89\00:07:34.35 but some more of the more well-known Adventist speakers 00:07:34.38\00:07:37.76 as a retreat for them to get away from stress 00:07:37.79\00:07:41.07 and get out in nature, talk a little bit about that. 00:07:41.10\00:07:44.83 Well, there is no cell phone coverage out there, 00:07:44.86\00:07:46.68 so we can throw those things away, amen. 00:07:46.71\00:07:49.59 What a treat, no cell phones. 00:07:49.62\00:07:51.98 So, I can't check my email and all that stuff. 00:07:52.01\00:07:53.96 No, and I'm not going to loan you my sat phone 00:07:53.99\00:07:55.64 to do that, you know that's for emergencies only. 00:07:55.67\00:07:57.93 Okay. So it appeals to just about 00:07:57.96\00:08:00.47 everybody to disconnect from their electronics, 00:08:00.50\00:08:04.09 get out there, get away from all that, 00:08:04.12\00:08:06.20 start fellowshipping with each other and just leave 00:08:06.23\00:08:09.14 all that behind and so we started, 00:08:09.17\00:08:11.33 I started coming to ASI in 2005. 00:08:11.36\00:08:13.68 When we started the retreat 00:08:13.71\00:08:14.90 and started recruiting here at ASI. 00:08:14.93\00:08:16.87 This is a great place to do it. 00:08:16.90\00:08:18.44 And so, we've had Doug Batchelor come. 00:08:18.47\00:08:20.71 Jeff Rich, you who will be interviewing in a little while, 00:08:20.74\00:08:22.46 he is been there. 00:08:22.49\00:08:23.87 David Gates, Herb Larson, let's see who have-oh, 00:08:23.90\00:08:27.85 Shawn Boonstra of course he is been there, 00:08:27.88\00:08:29.66 he was there in 2009 and he is coming back next year, 00:08:29.69\00:08:32.45 in fact he is going to be in my house for two weeks, 00:08:32.48\00:08:33.95 he can't get enough of Alaska. 00:08:33.98\00:08:36.70 But, you know, I don't want to, I don't want to tell you this, 00:08:36.73\00:08:39.20 you know, that you know, we're bunch of macho guys up 00:08:39.23\00:08:41.70 there because in the 1980's Alaska was know as the place 00:08:41.73\00:08:46.26 where men were men but women won the Iditarod. 00:08:46.29\00:08:49.23 You know, and finally men started to win it again 00:08:49.26\00:08:51.75 but you know there was, 00:08:51.78\00:08:53.05 there is some tough competition out there. 00:08:53.08\00:08:55.04 In fact there is a lot of women 00:08:55.07\00:08:56.50 that would love to come to our retreat. 00:08:56.53\00:08:58.42 Sorry, we need to do a separate retreat for you. 00:08:58.45\00:09:00.86 You know, my wife is not happy about that. 00:09:00.89\00:09:02.65 She is into the outdoors and she says, 00:09:02.68\00:09:04.85 no, you can't go up there, if you are going, I am going. 00:09:04.88\00:09:08.49 And so, we got to work on that. 00:09:08.52\00:09:12.24 Now, you have another ministry in your community, 00:09:12.27\00:09:14.54 there is a lot of commercial pilots in Alaska, 00:09:14.57\00:09:16.54 I think everybody in Alaska is a pretty much a pilot, right. 00:09:16.57\00:09:19.54 Well, that true. 00:09:19.57\00:09:20.60 So tell me about what you are doing 00:09:20.63\00:09:22.12 as an outreach to your pilot friends. 00:09:22.15\00:09:25.13 Well, you know I was thinking last year when I came to ASI, 00:09:25.16\00:09:28.05 I really need to do something with all these guys 00:09:28.08\00:09:30.48 I know that are pilots they are not Adventist yet. 00:09:30.51\00:09:34.47 Dwight Nelson told me don't call them non-Adventist, 00:09:34.50\00:09:36.94 call them pre-Adventist, because he was here last year. 00:09:36.97\00:09:39.44 In fact if you want to watch some sermons about Alaska 00:09:39.47\00:09:43.63 and its retreat, go to life lessons 00:09:43.66\00:09:46.69 from Alaska on pmchruch.tv. 00:09:46.72\00:09:48.87 He has a couple of sermons there. 00:09:48.90\00:09:50.18 But any way what was I saying. 00:09:50.21\00:09:54.41 You are talking about your outreach for the pilots. 00:09:54.44\00:09:56.07 Oh, yeah, the outreach for the men. 00:09:56.10\00:09:58.73 We-I came here and I met up with Tony Morgan, 00:09:58.76\00:10:02.41 I said, you know that, that new series he has tracing 00:10:02.44\00:10:05.68 the footsteps to Jesus would be an excellent little series 00:10:05.71\00:10:10.65 to do a small group with. 00:10:10.68\00:10:12.84 So I started contacting all my pilot friends 00:10:12.87\00:10:15.10 or so some of them and we started a small group 00:10:15.13\00:10:17.50 using his tracing the footsteps to Jesus 00:10:17.53\00:10:19.50 which is an excellent series by the way, 00:10:19.53\00:10:21.18 I highly recommend it. 00:10:21.21\00:10:22.47 And it's been very well received by both the Adventists 00:10:22.50\00:10:25.62 that are coming and the non-Adventists. 00:10:25.65\00:10:26.99 We have bush pilot, some airline pilots, 00:10:27.02\00:10:29.90 air taxi operators all kinds of flavor of pilots 00:10:29.93\00:10:33.86 coming to this Bible study and it's really great, 00:10:33.89\00:10:36.89 we are having a great time. 00:10:36.92\00:10:38.15 Now, this is what ASI is all about sharing Christ 00:10:38.18\00:10:40.92 in your market place and that's what Dan is doing in Alaska 00:10:40.95\00:10:45.41 and it hasn't been without fruit. 00:10:45.44\00:10:48.47 He's actually had people in the like 00:10:48.50\00:10:50.71 in the men's retreat that have come back 00:10:50.74\00:10:52.98 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:10:53.01\00:10:54.18 or actively studying to be members. 00:10:54.21\00:10:57.81 And if you want to talk to Dan he is, 00:10:57.84\00:11:02.05 if you are here at the convention you can find him 00:11:02.08\00:11:03.93 at booth 744 and also they have a website, 00:11:03.96\00:11:08.64 if you can get online its intellipaper.info. 00:11:08.67\00:11:13.16 Dan, thank you very much. Thank you. 00:11:13.19\00:11:18.16 Now we are going to shift gears a little bit 00:11:18.19\00:11:20.56 and now we are going to go south...to New York. 00:11:20.59\00:11:28.15 Okay, that's north to most of us and I have 00:11:28.18\00:11:31.12 the Rosenberger family with me. 00:11:31.15\00:11:33.92 So why don't you tell me your names and kind of what you do? 00:11:33.95\00:11:39.61 I'm Jolene. And I'm John Roosenberger 00:11:39.64\00:11:44.66 and this my daughter Jocelyn, my son John, 00:11:44.69\00:11:48.04 my other son Evan and my youngest daughter Juval. 00:11:48.07\00:11:52.08 And you are from Albany in New York and you found 00:11:52.11\00:11:55.72 a very special need in your community for a refugee group 00:11:55.75\00:12:02.45 and how many of you have actually 00:12:02.48\00:12:05.23 ever heard of Eric B. Hare. 00:12:05.26\00:12:07.48 Is that name ring a bell. 00:12:07.51\00:12:09.22 I think every hand in the house just went up. 00:12:09.25\00:12:11.30 You remember those stories. 00:12:11.33\00:12:14.33 We all grew up on the stories, right? 00:12:14.36\00:12:16.27 And if you haven't read them, you need to go and find them, 00:12:16.30\00:12:18.33 they are amazing stories. 00:12:18.36\00:12:19.61 But the people group that you work with are from Burma, right? 00:12:19.64\00:12:23.99 Correct. So, how are they come in here? 00:12:24.02\00:12:26.73 Tell me a little bit about what's going on in Albany? 00:12:26.76\00:12:29.35 It was about five or six years ago 00:12:29.38\00:12:31.84 and we realized or learned that refugees 00:12:31.87\00:12:36.85 are brought by the government to the Untied States 00:12:36.88\00:12:40.05 and are resettled in cities throughout America 00:12:40.08\00:12:43.19 in the inner cities and our kids were in school 00:12:43.22\00:12:48.48 and our youngest was still, 00:12:48.51\00:12:49.85 Juval was about two years old then. 00:12:49.88\00:12:52.05 And I prayed to God, I said true, 00:12:52.08\00:12:56.19 I was a stay home mom, I'm a stay home mom 00:12:56.22\00:12:58.49 and I said that you must have something more 00:12:58.52\00:13:00.70 for me to do volunteer work other than make brownies 00:13:00.73\00:13:03.44 and volunteer at the school now, 00:13:03.47\00:13:04.85 I mean that's very important 00:13:04.88\00:13:06.23 but I was looking for something more. 00:13:06.26\00:13:07.99 And we have always attended ASI and I've been very inspired 00:13:08.02\00:13:11.48 by the mission and when I learned 00:13:11.51\00:13:14.81 that refugees are in Albany, it was very exciting 00:13:14.84\00:13:17.91 and we contacted them and we realized, 00:13:17.94\00:13:20.82 we learned that the cities throughout America 00:13:20.85\00:13:23.87 are desperate for volunteers. 00:13:23.90\00:13:25.95 And so we signed up as volunteers 00:13:25.98\00:13:27.90 and we met our first family and we were excited 00:13:27.93\00:13:31.17 that the kids could be exposed to somebody 00:13:31.20\00:13:33.14 from another culture, and little did we know that God 00:13:33.17\00:13:37.60 had opened the flood gates. 00:13:37.63\00:13:39.19 And from there we just-- our lives changed dramatically 00:13:39.22\00:13:42.92 because we became very, very involved 00:13:42.95\00:13:45.50 in that and the mission of reaching out to immigrants 00:13:45.53\00:13:49.33 and refuges in our inner cities. 00:13:49.36\00:13:51.98 And in Albany it is the current, this is from Burma 00:13:52.01\00:13:56.82 and they are the largest group that's been resettled 00:13:56.85\00:13:58.99 right now and it's been just a wonderful joy to us. 00:13:59.02\00:14:04.44 And as they, as they settle in America, 00:14:04.47\00:14:09.30 what kind of things are you doing with and for them, 00:14:09.33\00:14:14.40 to make their experience better here in Untied States. 00:14:14.43\00:14:17.53 Well, that's the beauty of volunteering, 00:14:17.56\00:14:19.72 you can be as involved or uninvolved 00:14:19.75\00:14:21.95 as you want because you are volunteering, 00:14:21.98\00:14:23.51 no one can fire you. 00:14:23.54\00:14:24.87 And so we--it was every thing from opening their mail 00:14:24.90\00:14:30.13 and helping them figure out because when they arrived 00:14:30.16\00:14:32.52 what we quickly realized they are the poorest of the poor, 00:14:32.55\00:14:35.61 you can't get poorer than them, they show up at the airport 00:14:35.64\00:14:38.02 with nothing more than a bag and with the whole family 00:14:38.05\00:14:41.82 with just a little bag and then our government supports, 00:14:41.85\00:14:47.19 will help them find an apartment and gives them 00:14:47.23\00:14:49.73 about three months of rent. 00:14:49.76\00:14:51.83 And immediately they are given work authorization permit 00:14:51.86\00:14:55.23 after that it sink or swim. 00:14:55.26\00:14:57.37 And so they are in desperate need of help 00:14:57.40\00:15:00.09 and so it's everything from helping the kids 00:15:00.12\00:15:03.92 get enrolled in school, to helping them 00:15:03.95\00:15:05.69 with doctors appointments, to helping them with their mail, 00:15:05.72\00:15:08.09 to helping them and in the course of all that, 00:15:08.12\00:15:10.84 you just become friends and you really 00:15:10.87\00:15:12.86 develop a connection with them. 00:15:12.89\00:15:14.67 And the kids developed friendships 00:15:14.70\00:15:16.82 with the refugee children and they became 00:15:16.85\00:15:21.27 my close friends and these woman, 00:15:21.30\00:15:23.50 I mean we laugh together, we cry together 00:15:23.53\00:15:26.03 and they come over to our home and we go to their home 00:15:26.06\00:15:29.35 and what's been so rewarding is that we watch them 00:15:29.38\00:15:33.21 a lot of the little kids you know like five years ago 00:15:33.24\00:15:36.15 and now they are ten years old and they have grown up 00:15:36.18\00:15:38.83 and so we go to their functions, birthdays and it's like 00:15:38.86\00:15:46.49 our family has extended and we have a big extended family now. 00:15:46.52\00:15:51.05 And so we just praise God though, 00:15:51.08\00:15:52.85 we have been given this privilege. 00:15:52.88\00:15:54.37 On top of helping them with the day to day needs, 00:15:54.40\00:15:57.07 you are also, there is a spiritual element 00:15:57.10\00:15:59.91 to what you are doing? 00:15:59.94\00:16:01.30 And there is a ministry here at ASI 00:16:01.33\00:16:04.92 that we've probably all heard of, 00:16:04.95\00:16:06.15 what is that and tell us that going with the spiritual side? 00:16:06.18\00:16:09.99 As we got more involved, I quickly realized 00:16:10.02\00:16:12.81 that there is a piece of this that's way over our heads 00:16:12.84\00:16:16.28 and we are not pastors, my husband is a PhD chemist 00:16:16.31\00:16:20.50 and I'm a mom and I've a psyche background 00:16:20.53\00:16:24.68 but while we can do the mail and we can help them 00:16:24.71\00:16:28.33 find the local Asian grocery store 00:16:28.36\00:16:30.48 and we can be friends, we can't pray with them 00:16:30.51\00:16:33.65 in their own language and we saw that that's like 00:16:33.68\00:16:36.54 the most important thing that you can do. 00:16:36.57\00:16:39.37 And so we reached out 00:16:39.40\00:16:41.31 to Adventist Southeast Asia Projects and we knew that ASI 00:16:41.34\00:16:46.24 has a slew of ministries 00:16:46.27\00:16:48.23 and Adventist Southeast Asia Projects supports Asians 00:16:48.26\00:16:52.24 and refuges and these are refuges from Burma, 00:16:52.27\00:16:55.10 so we said please, please help us find 00:16:55.13\00:16:57.89 an ethnic pastor that can help us 00:16:57.92\00:17:01.49 and can reach out to these people. 00:17:01.52\00:17:04.52 So it took a little while but they did respond finally 00:17:04.55\00:17:08.81 in about two years ago, they provided us small stipend 00:17:08.84\00:17:13.04 for our current pastor to come and help, 00:17:13.07\00:17:19.89 reach these people and he settled in our area 00:17:19.92\00:17:22.45 and it was just a blessing. 00:17:22.48\00:17:24.97 I mean to this day we praise God for Pastor Satoo 00:17:25.00\00:17:28.14 that's his name and his family who helped. 00:17:28.17\00:17:31.76 And he immediately began a church 00:17:31.79\00:17:34.93 and what's the beauty because I thank you to Eric B. Hare 00:17:34.96\00:17:38.21 so many of the Karen are Christians. 00:17:38.24\00:17:40.90 And so he started a service in his home on Sabbath 00:17:40.93\00:17:45.26 and we had been attending a very comfortable church 00:17:45.29\00:17:48.79 and we just decided about two years ago, 00:17:48.82\00:17:52.85 or a year and half ago that, you know, 00:17:52.88\00:17:54.37 what we'll just decide, we will just make this 00:17:54.40\00:17:56.62 our own mission trip for a year, we'll stop attending our church 00:17:56.65\00:18:00.85 and we will go to this home church. 00:18:00.88\00:18:02.84 And so every Sabbath we wear Karen clothing like 00:18:02.87\00:18:05.73 this and we go sit on the floor and we worship together 00:18:05.76\00:18:09.58 and even though it's in another language, 00:18:09.61\00:18:13.02 the songs are the same and we are all praising God 00:18:13.05\00:18:15.92 and singing and worshiping. 00:18:15.95\00:18:18.75 Now, you've had quite a few people attending 00:18:18.78\00:18:21.12 now and actually there has been baptisms involvement. 00:18:21.15\00:18:24.69 Yeah. Now, this is something 00:18:24.72\00:18:26.13 we are out of time unfortunately but this is something 00:18:26.16\00:18:29.11 that people can do pretty much anywhere, 00:18:29.14\00:18:31.48 these people are everywhere in the Untied States and so? 00:18:31.51\00:18:36.11 Well, that's why we're up here because, 00:18:36.14\00:18:38.23 we just--every city, large city in America has refugees 00:18:38.26\00:18:44.35 and your city does too. 00:18:44.38\00:18:46.36 The city, the large city that's nearest to you 00:18:46.39\00:18:49.12 and in these cities there is a refugee agency 00:18:49.15\00:18:52.10 that you can contact and get involved and become a volunteer 00:18:52.13\00:18:57.02 and it's so rewarding and we have been so humbled 00:18:57.05\00:19:01.06 and we feel so privileged that God has given this ministry 00:19:01.09\00:19:05.87 to us and it's enriched our lives dramatically. 00:19:05.90\00:19:08.61 Our family has increased them, everyone has joined our family 00:19:08.64\00:19:12.23 and I mean we could go on and on. 00:19:12.26\00:19:14.26 But, Adventist Southeast Asia has been--ASAP projects 00:19:14.29\00:19:19.25 have been critical in this piece as well as the local church, 00:19:19.28\00:19:22.94 the Northeastern Conference Pastor Cook is the pastor 00:19:22.97\00:19:27.31 who reached out in his church warmly embraced 00:19:27.34\00:19:31.23 these people and our group 00:19:31.26\00:19:33.46 and so it's God is blessing every way. 00:19:33.49\00:19:37.16 And I would encourage you and I hope 00:19:37.19\00:19:40.38 that if you feel on your heart that you would like 00:19:40.41\00:19:45.31 to be involved in a ministry that--like ASI 00:19:45.34\00:19:49.86 has a lot of ministries but there is nothing like actually 00:19:49.89\00:19:52.62 being involved and doing that yourself and it really 00:19:52.65\00:19:55.18 is a mission on our doorstep. 00:19:55.21\00:19:56.96 Thank you very much. Thank you. 00:19:56.99\00:19:58.81 Now, if you want to stop 00:19:58.84\00:19:59.87 by their booth, they will be there on Sabbath. 00:19:59.90\00:20:02.53 Their booth number is 419 00:20:02.56\00:20:04.26 and website is asapministries.org. 00:20:04.29\00:20:09.27 Now moving on furtherdown south, way down south. 00:20:09.30\00:20:17.23 Jose, how do you say your last name? 00:20:17.26\00:20:19.68 Suazo. Suazo. All right, 00:20:19.71\00:20:22.21 now, you have a ministry called Vida international. 00:20:22.24\00:20:26.69 That's right. Tell me what you do? 00:20:26.72\00:20:28.38 Well, we have a wonderful a ministry in Honduras 00:20:28.41\00:20:32.96 and I had to tell you, you might disagree 00:20:32.99\00:20:34.50 with me but I had to tell you that I believe that Honduras 00:20:34.53\00:20:37.12 is the most beautiful country in the world. 00:20:37.15\00:20:39.34 And we have this ministry over there, 00:20:39.37\00:20:41.50 we have, we do a medical missionary training program. 00:20:41.53\00:20:44.61 We do--we have a bilingual elementary school. 00:20:44.64\00:20:47.01 We do lots of life style work and the Lord is richly blessing. 00:20:47.04\00:20:50.16 Now, you have a special school there, 00:20:50.19\00:20:52.12 an educational facility, tell me about that? 00:20:52.15\00:20:54.53 So, we have a Bible school called 00:20:54.56\00:20:56.51 the Instituto Biblico Centroamericano 00:20:56.54\00:20:58.58 and we have there, we train basically 00:20:58.61\00:21:00.77 people from all over Central America. 00:21:00.80\00:21:03.70 This year we have 13 students, some are from Salvador, 00:21:03.73\00:21:06.12 some are from Honduras, some are from Brazil, 00:21:06.15\00:21:08.83 some are from the States and we get them through 00:21:08.86\00:21:12.06 this program in 10 months. 00:21:12.09\00:21:13.46 They have an evangelism program, 00:21:13.49\00:21:15.07 they will go out in the community, 00:21:15.10\00:21:16.51 they knock on doors, they receive 00:21:16.54\00:21:18.60 the health training, massage, hydrotherapy 00:21:18.63\00:21:21.20 and they do a leadership training, 00:21:21.23\00:21:22.42 so that they are able to have to put together all these tools 00:21:22.45\00:21:25.07 and be able to be effective witnesses for the Lord 00:21:25.10\00:21:27.66 over there in the communities in Latin America. 00:21:27.69\00:21:30.19 Now, there are some special outreach programs 00:21:30.22\00:21:32.68 that those students do right in the local villages. 00:21:32.71\00:21:37.39 Tell me about that? 00:21:37.42\00:21:38.73 Yes, actually this year we had a couple of our students 00:21:38.76\00:21:41.74 who saw a wonderful need in the village 00:21:41.77\00:21:43.72 where they were working, right, and they were receiving 00:21:43.75\00:21:45.30 their training and they saw that there were in the community 00:21:45.33\00:21:48.43 some people that had disabilities. 00:21:48.46\00:21:50.53 And these people with disabilities, 00:21:50.56\00:21:51.84 they were not, they were not reached by anybody. 00:21:51.87\00:21:53.96 They wouldn't go to school, 00:21:53.99\00:21:55.29 they were just basically stay in their houses. 00:21:55.32\00:21:57.20 And two of the students, one of them had training 00:21:57.23\00:21:59.68 in special education and she decided as part of her 00:21:59.71\00:22:02.47 outreach program, as part of her 00:22:02.50\00:22:03.64 evangelism training that she would minister to these people. 00:22:03.67\00:22:06.28 And she went out into the village and found these kids 00:22:06.31\00:22:09.00 with disability, some of them cannot speak, 00:22:09.03\00:22:10.77 some of them had a hard time walking and doing 00:22:10.80\00:22:13.02 some of the basic things in life. 00:22:13.05\00:22:14.72 And she would take the time together 00:22:14.75\00:22:16.18 with her classmate and minister to them 00:22:16.21\00:22:19.14 and the impact that this has had--has had 00:22:19.17\00:22:21.46 in these-in these people who are forsaken 00:22:21.49\00:22:23.64 by the community and also 00:22:23.67\00:22:25.33 in the family members is just impressive. 00:22:25.36\00:22:27.29 And to see that that was the initiative of students 00:22:27.32\00:22:30.23 who are receiving this evangelistic training. 00:22:30.26\00:22:33.30 Now, you have a-- for younger students 00:22:33.33\00:22:36.12 you have a bilingual school, okay. 00:22:36.15\00:22:38.64 So what are the age groups that are, 00:22:38.67\00:22:40.61 that are in the bilingual school? 00:22:40.64\00:22:42.25 Okay, we have-- we just started our bilingual school, 00:22:42.28\00:22:44.24 you have to understand that in Latin America, 00:22:44.27\00:22:46.55 the bilingual school system is exclusively 00:22:46.58\00:22:48.97 for people who are wealthy. 00:22:49.00\00:22:50.53 And we're working in a village and this village 00:22:50.56\00:22:53.55 their education system is very poor. 00:22:53.58\00:22:55.84 And so and in this village 50 new kids are born every year. 00:22:55.87\00:22:59.21 So we decided, okay, we're doing lots of evangelism, 00:22:59.24\00:23:01.16 we're doing lots of outreach for the older people 00:23:01.19\00:23:03.18 but what can we do with this 00:23:03.21\00:23:04.25 new generation that is coming up? 00:23:04.28\00:23:05.84 And so we decided to establish a bilingual school 00:23:05.87\00:23:08.68 that would be available to this people in this community 00:23:08.71\00:23:11.08 who would never otherwise have a chance to receive 00:23:11.11\00:23:13.44 this prime education and we have decided to start 00:23:13.47\00:23:16.37 with a kindergarten and this year we already have 00:23:16.40\00:23:20.42 first grade and we are already looking forward 00:23:20.45\00:23:22.37 for second grade next year when this school year ends. 00:23:22.40\00:23:25.55 And it has been a powerful impact in the community. 00:23:25.62\00:23:27.55 The first year, we had the amazing 00:23:27.58\00:23:29.42 number of two students. 00:23:29.45\00:23:31.22 Can somebody say amen to two students? 00:23:31.25\00:23:33.42 And this year our classes are almost completely packed full 00:23:33.45\00:23:36.84 and the impact that these two kids 00:23:36.87\00:23:38.48 had in the community is really impressive. 00:23:38.51\00:23:40.53 They go out there and the rest of the community 00:23:40.56\00:23:43.18 saw what was taking place and saw 00:23:43.21\00:23:44.34 that they were speaking English, saw the impact in the community 00:23:44.37\00:23:46.89 and they decided to more people 00:23:46.92\00:23:48.59 started deciding to come and send their kids. 00:23:48.62\00:23:50.41 Actually we had a parent meeting, 00:23:50.44\00:23:52.89 parent meeting in the campus and one of the parents 00:23:52.92\00:23:56.60 is been dragged by one of the kids 00:23:56.63\00:23:58.13 and I'm working in the garden right at the entrance. 00:23:58.16\00:23:59.98 She opens, they open the gate and I think to myself 00:24:00.01\00:24:03.18 what's going on and the lady looks kind of distressed 00:24:03.21\00:24:06.44 and she is carrying a younger baby and she is been dragged 00:24:06.47\00:24:08.30 by one our students into the campus 00:24:08.33\00:24:10.71 and it's a Sunday for these parent meetings. 00:24:10.74\00:24:12.71 And she tells me you know I have a problem 00:24:12.74\00:24:14.55 and I thought to myself, oh, man what happened. 00:24:14.58\00:24:16.47 And she tells me, you know, my kid on Sunday, 00:24:16.50\00:24:20.73 she got early in the morning set her uniform up because 00:24:20.76\00:24:23.18 she wants to go to school and there is no classes 00:24:23.21\00:24:25.71 on Sunday and she was just pestering her mom 00:24:25.74\00:24:28.22 because she is, mom, can we go now, mom, 00:24:28.25\00:24:29.85 can we go now, I want to go to school. 00:24:29.88\00:24:31.42 So, it has had a wonderful impact 00:24:31.45\00:24:32.87 over there in the community 00:24:32.90\00:24:33.93 and the Lord is reaching not just these kids that seem seen 00:24:33.96\00:24:37.33 that the kids are dragging their parents, 00:24:37.36\00:24:39.08 that's happening also in church. 00:24:39.11\00:24:41.00 These kids-- some of the parents 00:24:41.03\00:24:42.30 are actually coming to our church. 00:24:42.33\00:24:45.20 Praise God. We used to meet 00:29:14.85\00:29:16.24 in a car wash. Okay. 00:29:16.27\00:29:17.64 It lasted for six months enough for God 00:29:17.67\00:29:20.28 to bring this young man there and then God moves us down 00:29:20.31\00:29:23.44 were in another church we have a rented space 00:29:23.47\00:29:26.50 in another church that we meet every Sabbath. 00:29:26.53\00:29:29.09 Okay, so you get your patients and you invite them 00:29:29.12\00:29:34.22 to have classes so how they can learn, 00:29:34.25\00:29:38.48 new lifestyle, but you meet with them 00:29:38.51\00:29:41.43 and you share with them about the Bible, about Christ. 00:29:41.46\00:29:44.75 Yes, yeah and I say, as I was mentioning 00:29:44.78\00:29:48.05 three and half years ago, Wang Carlos was in Guatemala. 00:29:48.08\00:29:51.08 Okay. And he had lost his vision about 10 years 00:29:51.11\00:29:55.13 before that in an auto accident. 00:29:55.16\00:29:57.22 He used to drink and one of those days 00:29:57.25\00:29:59.07 that he was drinking he had this accident. 00:29:59.10\00:30:00.72 He was expelled through the windshield and pieces 00:30:00.75\00:30:03.84 of the crystal were imbedded in his eyes. 00:30:03.87\00:30:06.29 Since he was drunk he just rub them 00:30:06.32\00:30:07.83 and lost his vision that way. 00:30:07.86\00:30:10.33 He was in our Rehabilitation Hospital, 00:30:10.36\00:30:12.12 they tried to save one of his eyes and he can see 00:30:12.15\00:30:15.53 a little pinhole out of the left eye enough 00:30:15.56\00:30:19.62 to probably see light its night or day. 00:30:19.65\00:30:22.58 But about 10 years after this accident 00:30:22.61\00:30:25.38 he was trying to make a living in Guatemala, 00:30:25.41\00:30:27.47 he used to drive with that little vision. 00:30:27.50\00:30:29.33 Wow. And he was guided 00:30:29.36\00:30:31.50 by the little white lines on one side and the red lights in front 00:30:31.53\00:30:34.73 that he will break if he see the red lights coming on 00:30:34.76\00:30:37.08 and on two occasions rain came suddenly 00:30:37.11\00:30:40.77 and he was out in the country driving 00:30:40.80\00:30:43.36 and he just couldn't see, he told me that he felt 00:30:43.39\00:30:48.06 the hand taking control of the wheel. 00:30:48.09\00:30:50.59 And he started thinking that there is somebody 00:30:50.62\00:30:52.16 that has control over these things. 00:30:52.19\00:30:54.87 He started thinking about the God that was doing that 00:30:54.90\00:30:58.06 and on the second occasion that happened, 00:30:58.09\00:31:00.07 Wang Carlos told me. 00:31:00.10\00:31:01.64 He just said, okay, Lord if you want to drive, take the wheel. 00:31:01.71\00:31:05.76 And he arrived after a few minutes of driving, 00:31:05.79\00:31:08.45 he arrived safely home. 00:31:08.48\00:31:10.32 Amen. So, that's something. 00:31:10.35\00:31:12.15 Some one tells to Carlos in Guatemala, 00:31:12.18\00:31:14.12 you probably should travel to the States. 00:31:14.15\00:31:15.68 Okay, how you met him 00:31:15.71\00:31:17.70 and what you did when you met him? 00:31:17.73\00:31:20.90 Well, actually the Lord knew this 00:31:20.93\00:31:22.79 and he brought Wang Carlos to the car wash. 00:31:22.82\00:31:25.40 He-Wang Carlos came to Chicago hoping 00:31:25.43\00:31:28.66 for an ophthalmological reatment 00:31:28.69\00:31:30.26 that wasn't available for him anyway. 00:31:30.29\00:31:31.85 They told him the injury is too old, 00:31:31.88\00:31:34.11 so he had a dream in which he is looking for a job 00:31:34.14\00:31:38.97 and he saw a car wash in the dream. 00:31:39.00\00:31:41.76 So he thought the next morning I approached 00:31:41.79\00:31:43.42 to go and get a job, you know, 00:31:43.45\00:31:45.63 looking different stores to see 00:31:45.66\00:31:47.04 if they need help with that little vision. 00:31:47.07\00:31:49.92 And he saw the car wash that he dreamt and he was, 00:31:49.95\00:31:53.80 you know, dubious about going or not and finally he went in. 00:31:53.83\00:31:58.84 And that's where he met you guys 00:31:58.87\00:32:00.87 and you started studying the Bible with him. 00:32:00.90\00:32:03.77 He was offered Bible studies. 00:32:03.80\00:32:06.47 My mother like give him Bible studies. 00:32:06.50\00:32:08.63 He couldn't have just one Bible study 00:32:08.66\00:32:10.63 or two or three, he want to finish 00:32:10.66\00:32:13.83 this booklet for just, you know, one night if it was possible. 00:32:13.86\00:32:17.18 But at the end of the studies there was only a couple of weeks 00:32:17.21\00:32:20.59 or three weeks, he wanted to be baptized. 00:32:20.62\00:32:22.77 Oh, praise the Lord, so he got baptized? 00:32:22.80\00:32:25.79 He was baptized and I think there were some slides, 00:32:25.82\00:32:28.41 I don't know if they are there. Some pictures, 00:32:28.44\00:32:29.47 okay, they are right there. 00:32:29.50\00:32:30.58 They put an inflatable pool of the car wash 00:32:30.61\00:32:32.41 and Wang Carlos was the first fruit of that church, 00:32:32.44\00:32:35.84 that's the pastor baptizing him there. 00:32:35.87\00:32:38.79 But, that wasn't enough for Wang Carlos. 00:32:38.82\00:32:41.75 He went back to Guatemala. 00:32:41.78\00:32:44.18 He gave the message to his family, they were baptized. 00:32:44.21\00:32:46.84 And he went to your school after that, 00:32:46.87\00:32:50.90 because after he was baptized, 00:32:50.93\00:32:53.05 the Lord gave him sustenance for the rest of his life. 00:32:53.08\00:32:57.03 A telephone company decided to rent the roof of his house 00:32:57.06\00:33:00.09 in Guatemala and they paid him a lease. 00:33:00.12\00:33:03.46 So he said now I'm free, I can serve God. 00:33:03.49\00:33:06.53 He wanted to go to a school to be prepared so, 00:33:06.56\00:33:08.55 your school Galeana, Nuevo Leon in Mexico, 00:33:08.58\00:33:13.37 was the one that took this young man. 00:33:13.40\00:33:15.50 Well, you asked me if we can take a blind person 00:33:15.53\00:33:18.24 as a student, and we say yes. 00:33:18.27\00:33:21.04 And he came and what he did was outstanding. 00:33:21.07\00:33:23.85 He did very well and we just praise the Lord 00:33:23.88\00:33:27.48 for how he was so enthusiastic about getting these training 00:33:27.51\00:33:31.03 and he is in fire for the Lord and now that he got 00:33:31.06\00:33:34.35 his training, what happened? 00:33:34.38\00:33:36.34 Well, a few days later this young lady, 00:33:36.37\00:33:38.22 you see this brochure about a school in Galeana. 00:33:38.25\00:33:41.16 She is visiting with her family in another town in Mexico. 00:33:41.19\00:33:45.13 And what do you think Sandra? 00:33:45.16\00:33:46.24 What do you think about this? 00:33:46.27\00:33:48.43 This is the place where I want to be, 00:33:48.46\00:33:52.16 I want to go here. 00:33:52.19\00:33:56.16 She just read it in English. 00:33:56.19\00:33:58.85 And she went there. 00:33:58.88\00:34:01.29 Both of them met as TMS in our school in Mexico and boy, 00:34:01.32\00:34:07.31 they fall in love and they got married. 00:34:07.34\00:34:11.51 You know that happen quite often in our school. 00:34:11.54\00:34:14.34 You know, we have people there, 00:34:14.37\00:34:16.47 we have seen so many marriage coming out of there, 00:34:16.50\00:34:18.76 that is amazing but, this is a real blessing. 00:34:18.79\00:34:22.35 And so what is the plans for the future with Wang? 00:34:22.38\00:34:26.41 Well, they were married four years ago. 00:34:26.44\00:34:28.52 Your plans are-- 00:34:28.55\00:34:31.52 [speaking in foreign language] 00:34:31.55\00:34:37.28 I'm about three years with having spiritual vision now, 00:34:40.36\00:34:43.77 I'm not blind any more. 00:34:43.80\00:34:47.76 [Speaking in foreign language] 00:34:47.79\00:34:51.19 God has great plans for us. 00:34:59.40\00:35:00.73 We have a group of disable people, 00:35:00.76\00:35:02.46 he met some disable people 00:35:02.49\00:35:03.64 when he was in rehabilitation back some years ago. 00:35:03.67\00:35:06.82 They are still his friends and they are in the process 00:35:06.85\00:35:09.47 of helping them with enterprises. 00:35:09.50\00:35:12.11 Amen. I wish I could have 00:37:56.22\00:37:57.90 and explain that one to me, okay. 00:37:57.93\00:37:59.83 And I was watching television and saw 00:37:59.86\00:38:04.26 the large of displaced, large groups of displaced persons 00:38:04.29\00:38:08.81 in East Africa especially Ethiopia. 00:38:08.84\00:38:10.95 And it was like the Lord was speaking to me and I said 00:38:10.98\00:38:12.84 you know what, that's what I want to do, 00:38:12.87\00:38:14.91 and that's where I want to be. 00:38:14.94\00:38:16.10 And years later I was a Bible worker 00:38:16.13\00:38:17.97 after finishing college in Seattle, 00:38:18.00\00:38:19.84 and as I went door to door working with people. 00:38:19.87\00:38:22.86 I ran across a lot of refuges from Southeast Asia 00:38:22.89\00:38:25.91 and I prayed Lord help me to do something. 00:38:25.94\00:38:28.44 I see that there is a lot of people that are coming here, 00:38:28.47\00:38:30.67 they are not receiving any help and be careful 00:38:30.70\00:38:33.09 what you pray for it. 00:38:33.12\00:38:34.15 I ended up as a missionary in Southeast Asia 00:38:34.18\00:38:36.04 working with refugees. 00:38:36.07\00:38:37.10 You're now serious, Africa. 00:38:37.13\00:38:38.48 Yeah, in fact you spent-- you went 00:38:38.51\00:38:40.52 over there in 1999, right? Yes. 00:38:40.55\00:38:42.71 And my hats off to some of these people, 00:38:42.74\00:38:44.94 you know, it's one thing to go on a mission trip 00:38:44.97\00:38:46.43 for like six weeks or two weeks or something like that. 00:38:46.46\00:38:49.56 But when you go for one year or two years 00:38:49.59\00:38:52.26 and the case with you 10 years, right? 00:38:52.29\00:38:54.47 Right. And he was working 00:38:54.50\00:38:55.58 with Susu people in Guinea, Africa. 00:38:55.61\00:38:58.26 I mean, that must-- tell us something about that, 00:38:58.29\00:38:59.83 that must have been- that must have been. 00:38:59.86\00:39:02.23 Well, my wife and I when we got married, 00:39:02.26\00:39:04.94 we went five years to Southeast Asia, 00:39:04.97\00:39:07.33 we came back and pastored in this States for about five years 00:39:07.36\00:39:10.50 and then ten years in Africa and we worked 00:39:10.53\00:39:14.05 in the country of Guinea, French Guinea 00:39:14.08\00:39:16.25 and they were probably 5 or 600 members 00:39:16.28\00:39:19.72 in the church and work with the Susu, 00:39:19.75\00:39:21.92 and among the Susu speaking people to plant 00:39:21.95\00:39:24.98 the church and a large school there as well. 00:39:25.01\00:39:26.83 And this is a predominantly Muslim area, right? 00:39:26.86\00:39:29.94 This is a, here the predominant religion 00:39:29.97\00:39:31.15 95% Muslim and animists and Christian make up the rest. 00:39:31.18\00:39:35.40 Do you have some really big challenges 00:39:35.43\00:39:36.87 during that in the 10 years over there? 00:39:36.90\00:39:38.35 Yeah, there were lot of big challenges, 00:39:38.38\00:39:39.79 a lot of scary experiences but most of that had 00:39:39.82\00:39:44.10 to do with political unrest in the country 00:39:44.13\00:39:46.04 and danger from that respect, 00:39:46.07\00:39:49.55 military uprisings but God kept us through it all and glad 00:39:49.58\00:39:53.10 to say that He helped to accomplish 00:39:53.13\00:39:55.88 what He sent us there for. 00:39:55.91\00:39:57.57 I think he is being very modest about 00:39:57.60\00:39:59.25 some of the things that he has gone through 00:39:59.28\00:40:01.03 while he was over there. 00:40:01.06\00:40:02.60 You said one time you were evacuated 00:40:02.63\00:40:04.60 because of-you're surrounded by countries 00:40:04.63\00:40:06.60 that are all totally unstable in that area, 00:40:06.63\00:40:08.39 so I mean it was affecting the country right there. 00:40:08.42\00:40:09.74 Well over 10, 12 years because the project continues 00:40:09.77\00:40:13.54 under people that we train. 00:40:13.57\00:40:16.23 We've had four or five evacuations 00:40:16.26\00:40:18.67 for usually for political reasons 00:40:18.70\00:40:20.19 and just the last evacuation, 00:40:20.22\00:40:22.98 our missionaries got out just a little bit late 00:40:23.01\00:40:25.21 and we were set up on by an angry mob 00:40:25.24\00:40:26.96 and almost burnt to death in their car, 00:40:26.99\00:40:28.65 but praise God they made it out. 00:40:28.68\00:40:29.81 And you said while you were there, 00:40:29.84\00:40:30.93 you helped raise up a school. 00:40:30.96\00:40:32.25 Now tell us a little bit about the school? 00:40:32.28\00:40:33.67 Well, the school was four young people, 00:40:33.70\00:40:36.05 you know as missionaries when we raise up a work, 00:40:36.08\00:40:38.89 we are just creating sometimes more needs. 00:40:38.92\00:40:41.42 There are young people that come into the church 00:40:41.45\00:40:43.64 and Sabbath was a big problem for them 00:40:43.67\00:40:46.34 as it is in many places in the world. 00:40:46.37\00:40:48.26 So we started a school to help the young people, 00:40:48.29\00:40:51.31 many of whom were coming to church 00:40:51.34\00:40:53.36 and skipping school on Sabbath even years 00:40:53.39\00:40:55.98 before their baptism. 00:40:56.01\00:40:57.37 And so we started a school for that reason 00:40:57.40\00:40:59.05 and we started with 12 students, 00:40:59.08\00:41:01.07 it now has I believe over 300 students. 00:41:01.10\00:41:03.98 Wow, praise God. 00:41:04.01\00:41:05.31 You said something about, there was one student 00:41:05.34\00:41:07.63 particularly that you had an experience with Margarita? 00:41:07.66\00:41:09.69 Margarita, yeah, she is typical, 00:41:09.72\00:41:11.57 she was a young lady that, she is typical 00:41:11.60\00:41:13.54 of many young people who convert to the church. 00:41:13.57\00:41:15.67 She was coming to the school, she started when she was 00:41:15.70\00:41:18.77 just in six or seventh grade. 00:41:18.80\00:41:20.05 She ended up graduating but she because of her faithfulness 00:41:20.08\00:41:24.39 to the Sabbath for three years before she was baptized, 00:41:24.42\00:41:27.11 actually could not dropped out of the national school system 00:41:27.14\00:41:32.13 and she couldn't go on to college 00:41:32.16\00:41:35.23 because she would not take the national exam 00:41:35.26\00:41:37.22 on Sabbath and we struggled with what to do for her, 00:41:37.25\00:41:40.41 she almost in her senior year almost gave up because 00:41:40.44\00:41:43.01 she said there is no hope. 00:41:43.04\00:41:44.45 But, God gave us an idea to create a test, 00:41:44.48\00:41:46.95 we presented it to the government a test model 00:41:46.98\00:41:49.92 after the ACT-SAT here only in the French language based 00:41:49.95\00:41:54.57 on the curricular of that country. 00:41:54.60\00:41:56.98 And when the government official saw, 00:41:57.01\00:41:58.61 he said why don't you make 00:41:58.64\00:41:59.67 this available to the whole country? 00:41:59.70\00:42:01.45 She has now finished university. 00:42:01.48\00:42:04.53 She's-I just had the privilege of marrying her 00:42:04.56\00:42:07.32 to her high school guy about a month ago. 00:42:07.35\00:42:09.46 And she is a teacher in the school 00:42:09.49\00:42:11.35 where she was trained. 00:42:11.38\00:42:12.42 Wow, that's what it's all about, isn't it? 00:42:12.45\00:42:14.27 It's true. So, if people want 00:42:14.30\00:42:15.52 to get involved with AFM you have a booth here? 00:42:15.55\00:42:17.50 Yes, booth number 439. 00:42:17.53\00:42:19.64 Please we need missionaries 00:42:19.67\00:42:20.92 and www.afmonline.org is our website. 00:42:20.95\00:42:25.42 Are you looking for missionaries right now? 00:42:25.45\00:42:26.90 We need them. We have more calls in missionaries. 00:42:26.93\00:42:28.76 Yeah. Praise God, Marc. 00:42:28.79\00:42:29.87 Thank you so much. God bless you. 00:42:29.90\00:42:33.46 Our next couple, I like to call them victim, 00:42:33.49\00:42:35.64 so next couple of victims coming up front here. 00:42:35.67\00:42:39.96 This is Kent and Joel and they are from 00:42:39.99\00:42:43.93 International Children's Care. 00:42:43.96\00:42:45.79 Have you heard of that before ICC? 00:42:45.82\00:42:47.75 Now, I am going to just really give a quick blurb 00:42:47.78\00:42:50.21 because ICC has been an organization 00:42:50.24\00:42:52.61 that I had a real partiality before for years, 00:42:52.64\00:42:55.51 I have known the founder of the organization, 00:42:55.54\00:42:58.00 great organization and of course when people think of ICC, 00:42:58.03\00:43:01.89 they think of orphanages, right? 00:43:01.92\00:43:04.80 But when you-- I was talking to you, 00:43:04.83\00:43:06.04 I started saying the word orphanages you said no, 00:43:06.07\00:43:07.90 you used a different term. 00:43:07.93\00:43:09.45 What's going on with that, how many children's projects 00:43:09.48\00:43:13.06 do you have going on right now? 00:43:13.09\00:43:14.19 Well, when they come to ICC which we call ourselves ICC, 00:43:14.22\00:43:18.22 International Children's Care. 00:43:18.25\00:43:19.95 We don't think of them as orphans anymore 00:43:19.98\00:43:23.44 because they have homes and families with ICC. 00:43:23.47\00:43:26.85 And right now we are in 16 00:43:26.88\00:43:28.94 different countries around the world. 00:43:28.97\00:43:31.79 Sixteen different countries, I use the term orphanages, 00:43:31.82\00:43:34.45 I said how many orphanages 00:43:34.48\00:43:35.72 you said you had children's projects. 00:43:35.75\00:43:37.53 Can you explain a little bit about that, 00:43:37.56\00:43:38.88 I mean, what's a difference between 00:43:38.91\00:43:40.08 a children's project and an orphanage? 00:43:40.11\00:43:42.51 Okay, well children's projects are all the worldwide projects 00:43:42.54\00:43:47.06 that we have that would involve orphan children. 00:43:47.09\00:43:49.89 But our model, the ICC model is all about children's villages 00:43:49.92\00:43:56.04 and so we have some slides here 00:43:56.07\00:43:58.29 that I would like to share with you. 00:43:58.32\00:44:00.18 While they are playing those, explain a little bit about that, 00:44:00.21\00:44:01.91 what do you mean exactly? 00:44:01.94\00:44:03.37 Well, a child like this is perhaps homeless, 00:44:03.40\00:44:06.75 he's lost his parents, no one to take care of him 00:44:06.78\00:44:10.52 and so Alcyon Fleck in the next slide, who is our founder. 00:44:10.55\00:44:16.48 A great lady too, I know her and her son, 00:44:16.51\00:44:19.02 they are really wonderful people. 00:44:19.05\00:44:20.28 35 years ago she came up with a model of care 00:44:20.31\00:44:23.10 for children, that involved taking children off the streets 00:44:23.13\00:44:27.90 or they were given to us by government organizations 00:44:27.93\00:44:31.24 or institutions and Alcyon believed that the best place 00:44:31.27\00:44:35.68 for a child was in a home rather than 00:44:35.71\00:44:38.69 a dormitory style institution. 00:44:38.72\00:44:41.11 And so she created a model which was a children's home village 00:44:41.14\00:44:46.01 where we have several homes and 10 to 12 children per home 00:44:46.04\00:44:51.69 and about 10 to 12 children's homes on a campus 00:44:51.72\00:44:56.03 and that becomes the place where they lived their lives 00:44:56.06\00:45:00.46 and are able to become productive citizens. 00:45:00.49\00:45:03.11 Praise God. Now you were telling me that, 00:45:03.14\00:45:07.44 how did-you've been with ICC for about 15 years you said. 00:45:07.47\00:45:10.81 15 years. How long have you been with ICC? 00:45:10.84\00:45:12.46 For six years. Six years. 00:45:12.49\00:45:14.29 Now, how did-- how on the world 00:45:14.32\00:45:15.45 did you get involved with ICC really quickly? 00:45:15.48\00:45:17.22 I was a sponsor first. 00:45:17.25\00:45:18.95 You were donor, actually donning to ICC. 00:45:18.98\00:45:21.18 I was, yes. Okay, that's interesting. 00:45:21.21\00:45:23.40 And I contacted ICC and I offered them to serve 00:45:23.43\00:45:27.24 as a volunteer if they needed anything, 00:45:27.27\00:45:29.35 I thought I'm gonna do. 00:45:29.38\00:45:30.86 You're like, where you thinking of two weeks or something? 00:45:30.89\00:45:32.82 Yes, they called me and they had a proposition 00:45:32.85\00:45:35.85 for an administrator in the project of El Salvador, 00:45:35.88\00:45:39.73 I offered them one year, I stayed for four. 00:45:39.76\00:45:42.04 Espanol? Si. 00:45:42.07\00:45:43.86 Oh, good, yeah and so you were--you were also saying that, 00:45:43.89\00:45:51.53 when we are talking about orphanage you said well really 00:45:51.56\00:45:53.42 this is about evangelism, can you explain that real fast? 00:45:53.45\00:45:56.09 You know, this is evangelism at its roots, 00:45:56.12\00:45:58.72 a story though nothing to do. 00:45:58.75\00:46:02.78 You know what people think orphanages, 00:46:02.81\00:46:04.30 they don't think evangelism, 00:46:04.33\00:46:05.59 they think taking care of children, 00:46:05.62\00:46:06.96 you know, street children-- 00:46:06.99\00:46:08.84 We talk about the power of the blood. 00:46:08.87\00:46:10.30 I tell you story about that, that power of the blood. 00:46:10.33\00:46:12.53 There was a Hugo, Hugo came to our children's village 00:46:12.56\00:46:17.14 with that purpose in mind and that was to grow up 00:46:17.17\00:46:20.35 very fast so he could go kill the man 00:46:20.38\00:46:23.71 who have killed his father. 00:46:23.74\00:46:25.41 And he had the hate in his heart. 00:46:25.44\00:46:28.64 He grew up with that hate but people loved him there. 00:46:28.67\00:46:31.87 One day we had a week of prayer at the children's village 00:46:31.90\00:46:36.64 in the Dominican Republic. 00:46:36.67\00:46:37.93 Excuse me for a second. 00:46:37.96\00:46:39.46 Now, this boy, his father was murdered or something? 00:46:39.49\00:46:42.01 He was murdered.
