Every year we get the opportunity 00:03:13.95\00:03:16.57 to renew this relationship 00:03:16.60\00:03:18.25 between ASI and Adventist Review. 00:03:18.28\00:03:21.56 You know it's hard to get as much creditability 00:03:21.59\00:03:24.78 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:03:24.81\00:03:26.80 as is it is with the Adventist Review 00:03:26.83\00:03:28.35 that has existed almost longer than 00:03:28.38\00:03:31.26 the Seventh-day Adventist Church has been as in existence. 00:03:31.29\00:03:35.86 You know, tonight I have with me Bill Knott the editor 00:03:35.89\00:03:41.40 and executive publisher of the Adventist Review 00:03:41.43\00:03:44.99 and tell me Bill 00:03:45.02\00:03:47.03 I know what an amazing privilege it is for ASI 00:03:47.06\00:03:50.53 to have the Adventist Review 00:03:50.56\00:03:52.61 have a special edition come out that features ASI. 00:03:52.64\00:03:55.80 I know what we get out of the publication 00:03:55.83\00:03:57.81 and that what we get out of the amazing viewer ship 00:03:57.84\00:04:02.56 that happens but 00:04:02.59\00:04:03.62 what exactly does the Adventist Review get out of it. 00:04:03.65\00:04:07.07 We get to partner 00:04:07.10\00:04:08.43 with one of the most dynamic organizations 00:04:08.46\00:04:10.66 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:04:10.69\00:04:12.09 that's what we get out of it. Amen. 00:04:12.12\00:04:13.90 Our opportunity each year to put this message 00:04:13.93\00:04:17.30 in front of the members of ASI and all the viewers 00:04:17.33\00:04:20.67 who come from around the world 00:04:20.70\00:04:21.91 to see what's happening at this convention. 00:04:21.94\00:04:24.08 It's an opportunity to spread the message of Jesus 00:04:24.11\00:04:26.42 in a compelling way with a partner 00:04:26.45\00:04:28.66 that's out there in the marketplace doing the work, 00:04:28.69\00:04:30.85 that's the best kind of partnership for us. Amen. 00:04:30.88\00:04:33.69 And isn't that why we're all here 00:04:33.72\00:04:35.45 to spread the good news of the gospel. 00:04:35.48\00:04:38.41 Now, I have noticed here 00:04:38.44\00:04:40.86 on the front of the Adventist Review, 00:04:40.89\00:04:42.35 it says what happened to the lost? 00:04:42.38\00:04:44.79 Is-- I can't help but notice 00:04:44.82\00:04:46.92 that this is obviously featuring reaching those lost souls 00:04:46.95\00:04:50.92 and this particularly has a special interest to me. 00:04:50.95\00:04:54.19 How many of you guys out there 00:04:54.22\00:04:56.01 know someone have a family member, 00:04:56.04\00:04:58.09 any one in your present life right now 00:04:58.12\00:05:01.20 that is not walking with the Lord? 00:05:01.23\00:05:03.78 Raise your hand. 00:05:03.81\00:05:05.30 Almost every single one of us. 00:05:05.33\00:05:06.97 So why, Bill, did you choose this topic 00:05:07.00\00:05:09.89 for this special ASI edition? 00:05:09.92\00:05:12.88 Well, if you look at who wrote that cover article, 00:05:12.91\00:05:15.10 he is going to be speaking to you on Sabbath, 00:05:15.13\00:05:17.20 Shawn Boonstra and I have gotten to know 00:05:17.23\00:05:18.99 each other well in the last several years 00:05:19.02\00:05:21.09 and Shawn has been talking with me about this issue 00:05:21.12\00:05:23.47 and it began to be burning in my heart, 00:05:23.50\00:05:26.00 what are we saying about the lost? 00:05:26.03\00:05:27.72 We frequently talk about the success of our programs 00:05:27.75\00:05:31.11 and the importance of our committees 00:05:31.14\00:05:32.99 and the size of our ministries 00:05:33.02\00:05:34.50 but is that what heaven is talking about? 00:05:34.53\00:05:37.72 In fact Shawn will be telling you on Sabbath 00:05:37.75\00:05:40.61 to focus again on those 00:05:40.64\00:05:42.06 that heaven is most passionate about. 00:05:42.09\00:05:43.74 This whole issue is focused on renewing our focus on the lost. 00:05:43.77\00:05:48.29 In fact, there is even a piece in their 00:05:48.32\00:05:50.28 called reclaiming the territory 00:05:50.31\00:05:52.41 about some entity called Little Lights Studios 00:05:52.44\00:05:55.55 and a figure name Scotty. 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.37 You guys all need to read that article, just kidding. 00:05:58.40\00:06:02.31 No, you really should. 00:06:02.34\00:06:03.88 It is so important for us to reach out to those 00:06:03.91\00:06:08.12 that are in our own midst that, 00:06:08.15\00:06:10.95 you know, our brothers and sisters and family members 00:06:10.98\00:06:14.09 and I know for a fact that I'm standing here today 00:06:14.12\00:06:16.95 because a friend of mine reached out to me 00:06:16.98\00:06:18.77 so definitely this has a huge impact on me. 00:06:18.80\00:06:21.86 Now, tell me, Bill, 00:06:21.89\00:06:23.65 there is so many religious magazines out there 00:06:23.68\00:06:26.37 and there is a lot that focus on various different aspects. 00:06:26.40\00:06:30.03 What is it about the Adventist Review 00:06:30.06\00:06:32.07 that is unique or special or different? 00:06:32.10\00:06:35.71 This magazine has always been about some of the very simple 00:06:35.74\00:06:38.46 but very powerful ideas. 00:06:38.49\00:06:40.92 The second coming of Jesus, the truth of the seventh day, 00:06:40.95\00:06:43.90 his ministry in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:06:43.93\00:06:46.48 those ideas have been foundational 00:06:46.51\00:06:48.28 for this magazine for 163 years now. 00:06:48.31\00:06:52.52 And that connection makes us 00:06:52.55\00:06:54.00 unique among all religious publications 00:06:54.03\00:06:56.07 because we are continuing to tell that same story, 00:06:56.10\00:06:59.46 communicate that same message and we are discovering 00:06:59.49\00:07:02.21 that wherever the gospel is shared it does have results. 00:07:02.24\00:07:05.95 For those of you who come up and talk with us 00:07:05.98\00:07:07.73 about what this magazine means in your life, 00:07:07.76\00:07:09.57 it's very gratifying. 00:07:09.60\00:07:10.89 But I want to see it get out to even more people, 00:07:10.92\00:07:13.39 more of those who will come back into God's church 00:07:13.42\00:07:16.50 because of the message of this magazine. 00:07:16.53\00:07:18.47 Amen, so, Bill, what is that you want everybody in here 00:07:18.50\00:07:22.80 who has had a magazine placed on their chairs to do? Praise the Lord for this. 00:09:23.63\00:09:27.00 And specifically they are youth active. 00:09:27.03\00:09:32.04 I want to share with you 00:09:32.07\00:09:33.16 something that I lived last week, 00:09:33.19\00:09:36.94 actually last weekend. 00:09:36.97\00:09:39.50 Last weekend I came from a visit, 00:09:39.53\00:09:42.00 visiting the Youth for Jesus in Portugal. 00:09:42.03\00:09:46.37 All though a smaller project, 00:09:46.40\00:09:48.83 we have there a team of 20 people 00:09:48.86\00:09:52.76 and one story impressed me very much 00:09:52.79\00:09:55.82 that I want to share with you. 00:09:55.85\00:09:58.78 A young guy that was there participating 00:09:58.81\00:10:04.25 knew the church in a very particular way. 00:10:04.28\00:10:09.35 He was at a class and at the end of the class, 00:10:09.38\00:10:12.91 one of his fellow students 00:10:12.94\00:10:15.72 started talking about the soon return of Jesus. 00:10:15.75\00:10:19.05 But the way that he described, 00:10:19.08\00:10:21.69 he told me that somehow it didn't, 00:10:21.72\00:10:24.58 you know, it didn't match what he could imagine of it. 00:10:24.61\00:10:28.67 So he went home, got a Bible and start studying it himself. 00:10:28.70\00:10:33.87 And he found out that Jesus will really soon return. 00:10:33.90\00:10:38.77 So he started a research in the internet 00:10:38.80\00:10:41.26 and started seeing some YouTube videos 00:10:41.29\00:10:45.21 of Alejandro Bullón. 00:10:45.24\00:10:48.10 Probably you some of you know him, 00:10:48.13\00:10:49.78 he is evangelist in South America. 00:10:49.81\00:10:52.56 He was so impressed 00:10:52.59\00:10:54.19 that he sent an email to Alejandro Bullón 00:10:54.22\00:10:56.52 asking him how can I know more about the soon return of Jesus. 00:10:56.55\00:11:00.42 So he put him in contact with the local church 00:11:00.45\00:11:03.43 and making the story short, he was baptized a year ago 00:11:03.46\00:11:08.66 and he was there participating in Youth for Jesus. 00:11:08.69\00:11:12.41 You see so God has many ways 00:11:12.44\00:11:15.22 and this active member is now impressing others 00:11:15.25\00:11:18.49 to study the Bible. 00:11:18.52\00:11:19.83 In that group 45 people were especially touched 00:11:19.86\00:11:24.84 to receive Bible studies. 00:11:24.87\00:11:26.78 So these 45 people from that small town 00:11:26.81\00:11:29.80 are now enrolled for Bible studies. 00:11:29.83\00:11:32.47 Thank God for that, we praise the Lord. 00:11:32.50\00:11:34.94 Now I also wanted to share with you 00:11:34.97\00:11:37.35 and make you an appeal, 00:11:37.38\00:11:39.57 because Europe is so active that want you to participate 00:11:39.60\00:11:44.32 and that is about the ASI 2013 Convention. 00:11:44.35\00:11:48.74 It's going to be held in July next year 00:11:48.77\00:11:51.41 and I'm going to ask you have an image of Portugal 00:11:51.44\00:11:55.44 that's a typical tower of the Portuguese discoverers 00:11:55.47\00:11:59.00 that went through the world 00:11:59.03\00:12:00.96 and Mark Finley is going to be with us. 00:12:00.99\00:12:03.94 He is going to be from 3rd of July 00:12:03.97\00:12:06.38 to the 6th of July 2013 in a very special town or city 00:12:06.41\00:12:11.31 the second largest city in Portugal 00:12:11.34\00:12:13.87 that has a long story, history. 00:12:13.90\00:12:16.38 So if you want to see history in Europe, 00:12:16.41\00:12:18.42 just go to ASI Europe 2013. 00:12:18.45\00:12:21.80 It is a very special place as you can see. 00:12:21.83\00:12:25.61 It's 19 century building of 1854, 00:12:25.64\00:12:30.84 full of history and this city particularly is, 00:12:30.87\00:12:35.55 was founded in the third century, 00:12:35.58\00:12:38.60 so you can see there is a lot of things to see. 00:12:38.63\00:12:41.90 I strongly urge you to participate 00:12:41.93\00:12:45.91 in ASI Europe, why not? 00:12:45.94\00:12:47.94 You had been here many times, 00:12:47.97\00:12:49.68 some of you why not just a catch a plane 00:12:49.71\00:12:53.36 and go to Europe and participate actively 00:12:53.39\00:12:56.95 also with your fellow members from many different countries, 00:12:56.98\00:13:00.46 last year because our convention is held every two years 00:13:00.49\00:13:04.69 we had participants of 25 countries. 00:13:04.72\00:13:07.87 So probably we are going to have lot of Americans next year 00:13:07.90\00:13:10.80 because you have a direct flight from New York to Porto 00:13:10.83\00:13:15.28 the city in Portugal where it is going to be held. 00:13:15.31\00:13:17.68 So make plans. 00:13:17.71\00:13:19.27 It's a good opportunity for you to know Europe 00:13:19.30\00:13:22.69 and participate with your fellow members 00:13:22.72\00:13:25.31 at ASI Convention 2013. 00:13:25.34\00:13:29.55 Thank you very much 00:13:29.58\00:13:30.64 and continue to pray for God to act in Europe. 00:13:30.67\00:13:34.95 We have one more or one tonight, 00:13:38.82\00:13:42.57 wonderful, exciting, 00:13:42.60\00:13:44.58 motivating testimony from GYC 00:13:44.61\00:13:50.21 and how they have utilized or will utilize funds 00:13:50.24\00:13:53.57 that we will provide in our offering, 00:13:53.60\00:13:55.63 that you will provide 00:13:55.66\00:13:56.72 and so I'm really excited to have them share. 00:13:56.75\00:13:58.67 So come just a little bit closer 00:13:58.70\00:14:00.72 and so tell me what is your name 00:14:00.75\00:14:03.19 and what role do you serve in GYC 00:14:03.22\00:14:05.20 and tell us what GYC stands for. 00:14:05.23\00:14:08.05 My name is Natasha Nebblett, 00:14:08.08\00:14:09.22 I'm the Vice President of Logistics for GYC 00:14:09.25\00:14:12.58 and GYC stands for Generation Youth Christ. 00:14:12.61\00:14:16.19 It's an acronym for a generation of young people 00:14:16.22\00:14:18.33 that are excited about Christ's soon return. 00:14:18.36\00:14:24.40 My name is Alonna Smith 00:14:24.43\00:14:25.46 and I'm serving as a Treasurer for GYC. 00:14:25.49\00:14:28.92 My name is Joshua Nebblett 00:14:28.95\00:14:30.10 and I'm serving as the GYC Director of European Affairs. 00:14:30.13\00:14:35.40 The Director of European Affairs? Yeah. 00:14:48.87\00:14:50.77 I like, so I have to give him some credit, 00:14:50.80\00:14:54.60 the Director for European Affairs, all right. 00:14:54.63\00:14:57.31 It's actually a polished, it's a very fancy term 00:14:57.34\00:15:01.21 probably for Secretary of Europe Business as well so. 00:15:01.24\00:15:03.52 Okay, all right. 00:15:03.55\00:15:05.77 Well, Mr. Director, can you please tell us 00:15:05.80\00:15:08.96 a little bit about what happened for GYC Europe 00:15:08.99\00:15:11.71 since you would be expert on that? 00:15:11.74\00:15:13.23 Absolutely so probably most of you are familiar with GYC, 00:15:13.26\00:15:17.07 it's a North American based youth movement 00:15:17.10\00:15:20.08 that holds an annual conference every year. 00:15:20.11\00:15:22.36 And every year we had a delegation, 00:15:22.39\00:15:24.77 certain young people from Europe that have come over 00:15:24.80\00:15:27.27 and attended our conference. 00:15:27.30\00:15:28.41 Now there are young people in Europe 00:15:28.44\00:15:30.59 that are passionate about the gospel, 00:15:30.62\00:15:32.29 that are passionate about youth movement 00:15:32.32\00:15:34.18 and want to see something like GYC happen in Europe. 00:15:34.21\00:15:38.92 And so every year they would come 00:15:38.95\00:15:40.03 to our conference here in North America. 00:15:40.06\00:15:43.80 And every year the leadership of GYC would meet with them 00:15:43.83\00:15:46.87 and there was always this thing when can GYC come to Europe? 00:15:46.90\00:15:50.72 We want GYC in Europe 00:15:50.75\00:15:52.07 because though there is young people 00:15:52.10\00:15:53.74 that are inspired about that message, 00:15:53.77\00:15:56.28 about youth movement in Europe, it's very difficult 00:15:56.31\00:15:59.67 for many of the Europeans to get over here, of course 00:15:59.70\00:16:01.89 because plane tickets are very expensive, etcetera. 00:16:01.92\00:16:04.26 So they really want GYC to come to Europe 00:16:04.29\00:16:06.52 and I believe it was a year and six months ago, 00:16:06.55\00:16:10.25 approximately our president Justin McNeilus, 00:16:10.28\00:16:12.65 he went to Europe and he met with certain young people 00:16:12.68\00:16:15.73 that were there in Europe 00:16:15.76\00:16:17.11 and kind of that's where the whole thing 00:16:17.14\00:16:20.29 really got off the ground. 00:16:20.32\00:16:21.61 And since then we had-- 00:16:21.64\00:16:23.89 there has been a lot of planning that went into place. 00:16:23.92\00:16:26.37 We actually held our GYC Europe Conference, 00:16:26.40\00:16:29.48 just a few weeks ago July 20-24 00:16:29.51\00:16:32.46 and that was held in Linz, Austria. 00:16:32.49\00:16:34.54 It was really an inspiring event. 00:16:34.57\00:16:36.41 So all of you were in Austria 00:16:36.44\00:16:38.05 along with other GYC young people. That's right. 00:16:38.08\00:16:41.31 So how do you, Alonna tell us 00:16:41.34\00:16:42.94 how do you plan an event like that, 00:16:42.97\00:16:44.90 inter continent in a whole another continent. 00:16:44.93\00:16:47.31 Did you guys just skype and email 00:16:47.34\00:16:50.04 and you guys all planned that event there? 00:16:50.07\00:16:52.56 Yes, in fact I don't know what we would have done 00:16:52.59\00:16:54.32 without digital technology for sure, 00:16:54.35\00:16:56.51 but it's difficult planning a conference in United States, 00:16:56.54\00:16:59.91 when I actually understand the language. 00:16:59.94\00:17:01.85 But, to do something in Europe 'cause of lot of challenges 00:17:01.88\00:17:04.71 but it was a huge blessing because youth from Europe 00:17:04.74\00:17:08.28 teamed up with our team in the Untied States 00:17:08.31\00:17:10.47 and we really formed one team which made this happen. 00:17:10.50\00:17:14.15 And so it was a great blessing 00:17:14.18\00:17:15.60 and I of course is helping with some logistic staff 00:17:15.63\00:17:18.79 and that teamed up 00:17:18.82\00:17:19.85 with the person who spoke German 00:17:19.88\00:17:21.04 so it worked out really good 00:17:21.07\00:17:22.35 and it was amazing to see 00:17:22.38\00:17:23.76 how a team of young people from North America and Europe 00:17:23.79\00:17:27.15 just literally we formed one team, 00:17:27.18\00:17:28.87 it was amazing. 00:17:28.90\00:17:30.05 For those who may not have been blessed 00:17:30.08\00:17:31.78 that you attended GYC Convention 00:17:31.81\00:17:34.34 and, Joshua, can you share little bit about 00:17:34.37\00:17:35.70 some of features of the GYC Europe Convention? 00:17:35.73\00:17:38.46 Yeah, absolutely. 00:17:38.49\00:17:39.52 It was shaped very similarly to GYC here in North America 00:17:39.55\00:17:42.57 if any of you have attended there. 00:17:42.60\00:17:44.31 It started on a Friday and went till Tuesday, 00:17:44.34\00:17:47.17 GYC it started actually-- 00:17:47.20\00:17:49.53 it's actually somewhat similarly shapes to how ASI is. 00:17:49.56\00:17:52.75 We have, you know, our plenary session 00:17:52.78\00:17:54.23 in the morning and evening and in the afternoons 00:17:54.26\00:17:56.40 we have breakout sessions or seminars, 00:17:56.43\00:17:58.48 where the young people were able to go 00:17:58.51\00:18:00.89 and attend individual tracks that they were interested in 00:18:00.92\00:18:04.17 whether it would be, you know, health evangelism 00:18:04.20\00:18:06.05 if they had a burden to go back to their countries 00:18:06.08\00:18:08.25 and to hold tough evangelism or you know public speaking, 00:18:08.28\00:18:11.96 whatever it may be there is always different tracks 00:18:11.99\00:18:13.62 that the young people could go to 00:18:13.65\00:18:15.16 and attend those seminars 00:18:15.19\00:18:16.22 and get specific hands on training. 00:18:16.25\00:18:17.89 We had many other things 00:18:17.92\00:18:19.36 including one of the highlights of GYC Europe 00:18:19.39\00:18:22.40 which is always a highlight also here in 00:18:22.43\00:18:24.04 we have our conventions in United States is evangelism, 00:18:24.07\00:18:27.50 we have outreach every year. 00:18:27.53\00:18:29.40 And on Sabbath afternoon when we were in Linz, 00:18:29.43\00:18:33.14 all of the young people went out into the streets of Linz 00:18:33.17\00:18:37.17 and handed out literature offered, 00:18:37.20\00:18:38.70 the Bible study cards, it was really a powerful experience. 00:18:38.73\00:18:41.20 That sounds incredible. 00:18:41.23\00:18:43.28 Natasha, tell us something, why is it significant 00:18:43.31\00:18:46.44 that young people would hold the conference 00:18:46.47\00:18:48.67 of that nature in Europe? 00:18:48.70\00:18:52.03 Well, one of the things that makes it incredibly significant 00:18:52.06\00:18:54.54 is it you look at the spiritual condition 00:18:54.57\00:18:57.02 of the European continent for one. 00:18:57.05\00:19:00.06 Secularism, humanism and postmodernism 00:19:00.09\00:19:03.53 are all having a heyday over there 00:19:03.56\00:19:06.45 and if we look around the United States 00:19:06.48\00:19:08.24 and we think that, you know, postmodernism 00:19:08.27\00:19:10.23 and secularism and humanism are rough here, 00:19:10.26\00:19:12.97 they are even more rough over there. 00:19:13.00\00:19:14.99 So explain secularism, what's the big deal 00:19:15.02\00:19:17.74 that it's so embedded there in Europe? 00:19:17.77\00:19:19.97 Well, secularism I think is really born out of 00:19:20.00\00:19:23.25 when Europe came through the Dark Ages, 00:19:23.28\00:19:24.91 the picture that they had of God 00:19:24.94\00:19:26.25 that was shown them during the Dark Ages 00:19:26.28\00:19:28.36 really turned Europe off. 00:19:28.39\00:19:29.82 And so now God has been pushed back out of society, 00:19:29.85\00:19:34.28 He is not loved as a general rule, 00:19:34.31\00:19:38.29 He is viewed very poorly 00:19:38.32\00:19:39.98 and most people have turned away from Him 00:19:40.01\00:19:42.22 and decided there isn't a God at all. 00:19:42.25\00:19:44.09 And so, in Europe where some of the first countries 00:19:44.12\00:19:47.28 that decided that atheism was their official religion 00:19:47.31\00:19:50.86 and this is the culture that we are going into 00:19:50.89\00:19:54.52 and the people in general 00:19:54.55\00:19:56.20 are turning away from any concept of God, 00:19:56.23\00:19:58.42 whatsoever to like humans can do, 00:19:58.45\00:20:01.32 what we can get out of this world, 00:20:01.35\00:20:03.19 what advantages we have right here now 00:20:03.22\00:20:05.17 because this is all we have in their minds. 00:20:05.20\00:20:07.35 And so to have this conference come in 00:20:07.38\00:20:10.79 where we are excited about Bible study, 00:20:10.82\00:20:12.86 where we're are excited about prayer was groundbreaking 00:20:12.89\00:20:15.88 and it was beautiful. 00:20:15.91\00:20:17.08 Now, Joshua, you were telling me there was another reason 00:20:17.11\00:20:19.12 why it was pretty significant 00:20:19.15\00:20:20.66 that this was being held in Europe, 00:20:20.69\00:20:22.46 conducted by young people, why is that? 00:20:22.49\00:20:24.20 Yeah, absolutely, why because in Europe there is-- 00:20:24.23\00:20:26.62 because of the culture of Europe, 00:20:26.65\00:20:28.28 it's been very difficult for the grassroots movement, 00:20:28.31\00:20:31.84 for young people as individuals 00:20:31.87\00:20:33.88 Seventh-day Adventist young people 00:20:33.91\00:20:35.12 that are interested in working for God 00:20:35.15\00:20:37.23 its been difficult for them to start a youth movement 00:20:37.26\00:20:41.31 like GYC here in the US. 00:20:41.34\00:20:43.29 Like you know in North America 00:20:43.32\00:20:45.95 we have so many grassroots ministries. 00:20:45.98\00:20:49.70 I mean ASI is made of all of those, right? 00:20:49.73\00:20:52.14 Of layman their understanding up on Europe 00:20:52.17\00:20:54.15 it's more, it's been difficult 00:20:54.18\00:20:56.00 because of the culture for that to happen. 00:20:56.03\00:20:57.43 So, GYC it was a landmark occasion 00:20:57.46\00:21:02.85 in the sense that it was young people 00:21:02.88\00:21:06.20 putting on this confidence and so GYC came in cooperation, 00:21:06.23\00:21:10.46 you know, with some very talented European young people 00:21:10.49\00:21:14.83 as well as Alonna was referring you before. 00:21:14.86\00:21:17.28 We came together and we held this conference 00:21:17.31\00:21:19.95 and it was amazing, was absolutely amazing. 00:21:19.98\00:21:22.86 Now, since we have shared with you 00:21:22.89\00:21:24.12 a little bit of a picture and words. 00:21:24.15\00:21:25.97 Let's look at a few pictures you can see exactly 00:21:26.00\00:21:27.97 what may have taken place. Okay. 00:21:28.00\00:21:29.58 So, what's happening here? 00:21:29.61\00:21:30.68 All right so this is the picture of the congregation, 00:21:30.71\00:21:32.55 there was about, in this picture there is about 00:21:32.58\00:21:34.79 1,700 people sitting there. 00:21:34.82\00:21:37.52 We had actually registered about 2,300 on Sabbath, 00:21:37.55\00:21:41.19 we had 1,700 people come to the meetings. 00:21:41.22\00:21:44.77 Let's go to the next slide. 00:21:44.80\00:21:46.07 Yeah, we had actually 47 countries represented. 00:21:49.07\00:21:52.21 Here you see the attendees 00:21:52.24\00:21:53.48 that are getting ready to go on outreach. 00:21:53.51\00:21:56.42 And next, oh. Yeah, this is actually- 00:21:56.45\00:21:59.02 You had a camp out. We did. 00:21:59.05\00:22:01.68 Some of the attendees obviously are coming from countries 00:22:01.71\00:22:03.59 where it's difficult to afford even travel to get to Austria. 00:22:03.62\00:22:08.03 So we offered accommodations as you see 00:22:08.06\00:22:10.26 where they could stay for much more economical prices 00:22:10.29\00:22:14.11 and many of the attendees chose to do this. 00:22:14.14\00:22:16.16 Okay and next? 00:22:16.19\00:22:19.50 This is translation with that many countries 00:22:19.53\00:22:21.86 coming together, those many. 00:22:21.89\00:22:24.41 I don't even know how many languages 00:22:24.44\00:22:26.46 total we had represented. 00:22:26.49\00:22:28.25 But we had a massive amount of translation going on. 00:22:28.28\00:22:31.39 The meetings were held in English 00:22:31.42\00:22:32.78 because that is the most common language. 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.66 But as you can see here, these are translation booths, 00:22:35.69\00:22:39.99 all those young people in there, 00:22:40.02\00:22:41.65 very dedicated, very talented young people 00:22:41.68\00:22:44.40 that translated via they were speaking to a microphone 00:22:44.43\00:22:47.97 and that would be translated to the earpiece 00:22:48.00\00:22:50.59 of the people sitting in the congregations. 00:22:50.62\00:22:52.64 Those were the major languages 00:22:52.67\00:22:54.25 such as German, French, Spanish etc. 00:22:54.28\00:22:58.13 we also had a lot of smaller groups 00:22:58.16\00:23:01.77 from countries where there was many be 00:23:01.80\00:23:03.09 only five representing that language 00:23:03.12\00:23:05.58 and for them we did whisper translation. 00:23:05.61\00:23:07.73 I love that whisper translation. 00:23:07.76\00:23:10.03 We did whisper translation where they would sit in 00:23:10.06\00:23:11.96 with someone who could translate 00:23:11.99\00:23:13.49 would sit like amongst their group 00:23:13.52\00:23:15.41 and would whisper the meanings. 00:23:15.44\00:23:17.91 They were such-- God poured out His Spirit. 00:23:17.94\00:23:20.08 We would praise specifically for the translators 00:23:20.11\00:23:22.00 because they were the ones communicating the messages. 00:23:22.03\00:23:24.18 They had to translate David Asscherick 00:23:24.21\00:23:26.09 which was a real challenge, but they did. 00:23:26.12\00:23:29.64 We were so, so thankful. 00:23:29.67\00:23:30.79 You can put that on speed dial, I'm sure. 00:23:30.82\00:23:33.48 All right, let's get into some experiences. 00:23:33.51\00:23:35.20 Share with us a little bit, Alonna, about Macedonia? 00:23:35.23\00:23:38.65 Yeah, we had some attendees that were coming 00:23:38.68\00:23:40.39 from some rather obscure parts of Europe, 00:23:40.42\00:23:42.88 Macedonia was one of them. 00:23:42.91\00:23:44.07 We found a young person who was able to come 00:23:44.10\00:23:46.22 and we actually achieved a sponsorship for him 00:23:46.25\00:23:49.22 because he was unable to afford it. 00:23:49.25\00:23:50.84 So week before GYC he decides to come, 00:23:50.87\00:23:53.49 we put the funding in place. 00:23:53.52\00:23:55.03 So he arrives and on the train right there 00:23:55.06\00:23:58.47 he managed to witness to 10 different people 00:23:58.50\00:24:01.21 and so he came all excited just after GYC 00:24:01.24\00:24:04.03 and talked to me and said, you wont believe this 00:24:04.06\00:24:06.24 but I know this was a divine appointment for me to come here 00:24:06.27\00:24:08.95 just because of who I met on the train 00:24:08.98\00:24:11.30 and he is going back now to Macedonia 00:24:11.33\00:24:13.10 to share with all his friends 00:24:13.13\00:24:14.45 and other young people about GYC. 00:24:14.48\00:24:16.59 Oh, that's excellent. 00:24:16.62\00:24:17.65 Natasha, tell us about the cook in the kitchen? 00:24:17.68\00:24:20.21 The cook in the kitchen. 00:24:20.24\00:24:21.27 Well, besides the tents that we had, 00:24:21.30\00:24:24.37 we did have hotels for people to stay in 00:24:24.40\00:24:26.36 and in the main host hotel, 00:24:26.39\00:24:29.85 they would feed the attendees breakfast within the hotel 00:24:29.88\00:24:32.85 kind of what we would call a continental breakfast 00:24:32.88\00:24:35.08 but on much larger scale. 00:24:35.11\00:24:36.93 And so like hundreds of young people 00:24:36.96\00:24:39.72 would be coming in here every morning for breakfast 00:24:39.75\00:24:41.67 and they were all smiling, they were happy 00:24:41.70\00:24:43.92 and so the cooks and the waiters 00:24:43.95\00:24:45.97 and waitresses would be like you know, who are you, 00:24:46.00\00:24:47.75 what are you doing here? 00:24:47.78\00:24:49.01 You all look so happy, you are all smiling. 00:24:49.04\00:24:50.92 We got so many comments of that nature. 00:24:50.95\00:24:52.83 Anyway one of the cooks after observing 00:24:52.86\00:24:56.30 ended up asking for Bible studies 00:24:56.33\00:24:58.95 and he is already receiving Bible studies, 00:24:58.98\00:25:01.50 the last morning he was 00:25:01.53\00:25:03.62 one of the logistics people was telling him, 00:25:03.65\00:25:05.37 we are going to have so and so give you Bible studies 00:25:05.40\00:25:07.61 and he is like, oh that is wonderful, 00:25:07.64\00:25:09.08 that is so wonderful, thank you so much. 00:25:09.11\00:25:11.25 And we were so excited that this person 00:25:11.28\00:25:13.77 who didn't even really wasn't an Adventist, 00:25:13.80\00:25:16.17 wasn't anything, he observed us 00:25:16.20\00:25:18.00 and after watching the young people 00:25:18.03\00:25:20.13 that were there, he actually attended 00:25:20.16\00:25:21.91 some of the evening meetings 00:25:21.94\00:25:23.78 and then he requested Bible studies. 00:25:23.81\00:25:25.07 Incredible, incredible. 00:25:25.10\00:25:26.61 Now, we only have a couple of minutes left. 00:25:26.64\00:25:28.11 I want to move off of Europe 00:25:28.14\00:25:29.47 to find out what's happening now? Good, and Jay? 00:34:32.09\00:34:34.94 I am electrical engineer and I work for Mesa Associates 00:34:34.97\00:34:37.40 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 00:34:37.43\00:34:38.74 Okay, now you-- this is an exciting story. 00:34:38.77\00:34:43.57 You have just begun 00:34:43.60\00:34:45.61 or it's been now very shortly a church plant. 00:34:45.64\00:34:49.29 Where did you go to church before? 00:34:49.32\00:34:51.15 We used to attend a church in Collegedale, 00:34:51.18\00:34:53.47 Tennessee called McDonald Road 00:34:53.50\00:34:55.46 and any one knows Collegedale 00:34:55.49\00:34:57.61 so the amount of Adventist universities there, 00:34:57.64\00:34:59.48 there is lots of churches. That's right. 00:34:59.51\00:35:01.31 So it's pretty easy to go to church 00:35:01.34\00:35:02.93 and just fade into the furniture. 00:35:02.96\00:35:06.44 Yeah, and then, Jay, tell us, 00:35:06.47\00:35:10.71 how did you kind of get the idea 00:35:10.74\00:35:12.04 that you wanted to, you're thinking, 00:35:12.07\00:35:13.21 may be we could start a church. 00:35:13.24\00:35:16.08 I guess a lot of us did talked about it, 00:35:16.11\00:35:18.12 several of us had gone to Sabbath school together 00:35:18.15\00:35:20.42 and one spring after this camp meeting, 00:35:20.45\00:35:23.16 we were all just sitting around, kind a, got the idea, 00:35:23.19\00:35:25.65 let's do this, let's start a church plant. 00:35:25.68\00:35:28.31 So from there, we just started looking at some possibilities, 00:35:28.34\00:35:30.96 you know, were in the area 00:35:30.99\00:35:33.35 and we looked at, like Steven has alluded to in Chattanooga, 00:35:33.38\00:35:36.80 Collegedale area, there's a lot of churches. 00:35:36.83\00:35:39.24 But as we start putting punch pins on the map, 00:35:39.27\00:35:41.36 we noticed that in East Ridge, there was nothing. 00:35:41.39\00:35:44.31 So from there, we thought, 00:35:44.34\00:35:45.37 well lets' just look and explore the idea, 00:35:45.40\00:35:47.32 doing a church plant in East Ridge, Tennessee. 00:35:47.35\00:35:49.70 Okay, so what East Ridge 00:35:49.73\00:35:51.89 and you began your little group, began where? 00:35:51.92\00:35:57.46 What facility were you using to start with? 00:35:57.49\00:36:00.31 Well, we began looking for locations, 00:36:00.34\00:36:02.99 we considered a spot on the main drag, 00:36:03.02\00:36:05.48 which is really small but fortunately, 00:36:05.51\00:36:07.75 'Church of God' wasn't it? 00:36:07.78\00:36:08.99 They opened their doors to us, 00:36:09.02\00:36:10.42 that was the first church we rented, 00:36:10.45\00:36:12.72 then we outgrew that, 00:36:12.75\00:36:14.58 and then the Methodist church opened up their doors to us 00:36:14.61\00:36:17.16 and we rented that for a while. Okay. 00:36:17.19\00:36:19.32 So we brought the Seventh Adventist church 00:36:19.35\00:36:21.20 into other churches as well. 00:36:21.23\00:36:23.83 Now, tell us some stories, you have some amazing stories 00:36:23.86\00:36:27.61 or things that have happened 00:36:27.64\00:36:29.40 very recently with this church plan. 00:36:29.43\00:36:32.32 Yeah, before we do that, may be, 00:36:32.35\00:36:34.01 we could just share a little about our transition 00:36:34.04\00:36:35.81 from our Methodist church to where we are now. 00:36:35.84\00:36:37.87 Jay, you want to share it. 00:36:37.90\00:36:38.93 In fact I was going to ask you about the building, go ahead. 00:36:38.96\00:36:40.63 Okay, yeah, like Steven said, 00:36:40.66\00:36:43.36 we started off we were in our second facility meeting there 00:36:43.39\00:36:47.28 and slowly outgrowing it. 00:36:47.31\00:36:49.20 And a friend of mine who is a realtor, 00:36:49.23\00:36:51.29 she'd never sold a church before and never sold a home 00:36:51.32\00:36:54.71 in East Ridge, Tennessee actually. 00:36:54.74\00:36:56.27 She worked up in another part of town. 00:36:56.30\00:36:58.07 She called me up and said, Jay, 00:36:58.10\00:36:59.48 God has given me your church to sale, 00:36:59.51\00:37:02.70 because her husband worked for me, I was like what. 00:37:02.73\00:37:05.42 It's a long series of events, but through God's providence 00:37:05.45\00:37:09.15 and the dedication of our members, 00:37:09.18\00:37:11.02 we are actually able to-- we set some goals. 00:37:11.05\00:37:13.52 We have to raise 50% of the money, 00:37:13.55\00:37:15.73 we were able to do that. 00:37:15.76\00:37:17.86 Things fell in place over and about a three month interval 00:37:17.89\00:37:20.36 finally we ended up buying to purchase a church 00:37:20.39\00:37:23.45 that was in for closure in East Ridge. 00:37:23.48\00:37:25.38 I would say that right now, again go to God's providence, 00:37:25.41\00:37:28.60 the dedication of the members, that church is now paid off, 00:37:28.63\00:37:32.22 and we are in a middle of a renovation program, 00:37:32.25\00:37:35.02 that's again being totally done by capital 00:37:35.05\00:37:37.40 which was raised, no debt incurred. Amen. 00:37:37.43\00:37:39.58 So that's kind of an unusual thing isn't it, 00:37:39.61\00:37:42.56 100% pledges and 100% paid off 00:37:42.59\00:37:45.29 and what it's amazing, really it is. 00:37:45.32\00:37:46.52 I think it sort of really amazing about it, 00:37:46.55\00:37:48.55 is it's total lay led church. 00:37:48.58\00:37:50.43 We have no pastor assigned 00:37:50.46\00:37:52.44 to the church from the conference, 00:37:52.47\00:37:53.61 everyone there has a paid position. 00:37:53.64\00:37:56.36 They're paid job that they go and do, 00:37:56.39\00:37:58.25 but then all of our, every thing in the church 00:37:58.28\00:38:00.39 is all done by the lay members. 00:38:00.42\00:38:01.78 Right now we have about 170 members 00:38:01.81\00:38:04.16 attending the church. 00:38:04.19\00:38:05.40 Okay, let me get it straight, you are not a pastor. No. 00:38:05.43\00:38:09.36 But you-what do they call in now that missional pastor. 00:38:09.39\00:38:12.80 In Georgia-Cumberland Conference they call him missional pastor. 00:38:12.83\00:38:15.56 Okay, and you have had a formal training 00:38:15.59\00:38:18.33 in that though. No. 00:38:18.36\00:38:19.75 Bible worker training? 00:38:19.78\00:38:21.79 Engineering and business training. 00:38:21.82\00:38:23.48 So what you are is willing to follow wherever God-- 00:38:23.51\00:38:27.06 Yeah, I mean that's, 00:38:27.09\00:38:28.53 that's everybody in the church. Okay. 00:42:15.01\00:42:16.50 Tell us what is the mission of Project Patch? 00:42:16.53\00:42:20.04 The mission, I like to think the mission of God 00:42:20.07\00:42:23.25 that He's given Project Patch is to restore trouble teens. 00:42:23.28\00:42:26.48 Those teens that are falling through the cracks 00:42:26.51\00:42:28.39 and also to build stronger families, 00:42:28.42\00:42:30.52 to really be that protection for their teen. 00:42:30.55\00:42:33.78 Now we've heard about Project Patch through the years 00:42:33.81\00:42:36.59 and tell us about the work 00:42:36.62\00:42:38.50 that you are doing with the youth, 00:42:38.53\00:42:40.06 it's on your Idaho campus, right. 00:42:40.09\00:42:41.96 Correct, since 1993, we've had this beautiful campus in Idaho, 00:42:41.99\00:42:46.02 right on the Payette River, just an amazing place for kids, 00:42:46.05\00:42:49.24 ages 12 through 18 come and spent a year with us, 00:42:49.27\00:42:52.43 learn better ways to manage their life 00:42:52.46\00:42:54.01 through group counseling, individual counseling. 00:42:54.04\00:42:56.77 They attend in a credited high school, 00:42:56.80\00:42:58.70 they do outdoor therapy, indoor therapy, 00:42:58.73\00:43:00.94 they learn responsibility, they learn to respect. 00:43:00.97\00:43:03.39 And over all that they learn 00:43:03.42\00:43:04.73 that God's got a plan for their lives. 00:43:04.76\00:43:06.69 And so our chaplain and staff work with them closely 00:43:06.72\00:43:08.95 to help them discover that God loves them deeply 00:43:08.98\00:43:11.44 and that they can trust him fully with their lives. 00:43:11.47\00:43:13.86 Wow, and so how many young people 00:43:13.89\00:43:16.07 are you helping at a time there at Project Patch? 00:43:16.10\00:43:18.73 We help 36 kids, 18 boys, 18 girls, kept separately. 00:43:18.76\00:43:25.00 So you keep them separated there for a little bit 00:43:25.03\00:43:27.78 and but you help them to mature in that process. 00:43:27.81\00:43:30.71 Now I know that Project Patch 00:43:30.74\00:43:33.24 just kind of launched on another track here, 00:43:33.27\00:43:35.39 with the second part of your mission statement 00:43:35.42\00:43:37.63 and that is not only to help the troubled youth 00:43:37.66\00:43:40.26 but to help the whole family. 00:43:40.29\00:43:42.27 Tell us how God has lead in that way? 00:43:42.30\00:43:44.54 It's been frustrating for years 00:43:44.57\00:43:46.06 to see a child coming to our program 00:43:46.09\00:43:48.60 and to recognize that we could have moved 00:43:48.63\00:43:50.52 back in their lives a couple of years. 00:43:50.55\00:43:52.67 If we could have equipped 00:43:52.70\00:43:53.73 the family with some basic skills, 00:43:53.76\00:43:55.21 or if we could've given them some encouragement 00:43:55.24\00:43:57.53 to keep moving forward, 00:43:57.56\00:43:58.59 that they had been a good chance 00:43:58.62\00:43:59.77 that they wouldn't have to go through this 00:43:59.80\00:44:01.03 self destroying relationship, destroying behavior 00:44:01.06\00:44:03.44 that took him to our youth ranch. 00:44:03.47\00:44:04.87 And so we long for a way to get into their lives earlier 00:44:04.90\00:44:08.04 and God's given us a chance to do that 00:44:08.07\00:44:09.65 through our family center. 00:44:09.68\00:44:11.20 Now you say a family center, 00:44:11.23\00:44:12.85 tell me a little about this family center. 00:44:12.88\00:44:15.63 Five hundred acres, about two hours, these- 00:44:15.66\00:44:18.32 Right, I think we've some pictures, right? 00:44:18.35\00:44:19.89 Yeah, we've got some pictures we're showing the background, 00:44:19.92\00:44:21.83 an amazing place, that just, 00:44:21.86\00:44:23.91 as you drive on to our campus, it takes your breathe away, 00:44:23.94\00:44:26.96 that's the view of Mount Adams, just a priceless view. 00:44:26.99\00:44:30.30 We tell people if this was in other parts of the country, 00:44:30.33\00:44:32.56 it would be a national park. 00:44:32.59\00:44:34.32 We have a 70-foot water fall in our property. 00:44:34.35\00:44:36.63 We've got canyon views. 00:44:36.66\00:44:38.86 We got a ropes course at 10,000 square foot lodge 00:44:38.89\00:44:41.86 with meeting rooms, private motel, 00:44:41.89\00:44:43.89 hotel type rooms for the families. 00:44:43.92\00:44:46.11 We have four cabins, we have RV size, 00:44:46.14\00:44:48.46 we have trails, 00:44:48.49\00:44:50.25 and most of all we've got a place 00:44:50.28\00:44:51.70 that God has given us to serve families that's safe, 00:44:51.73\00:44:55.69 that's beautiful and that they can feel like 00:44:55.72\00:44:58.45 they can be themselves and grow. 00:44:58.48\00:45:01.85 So actually you bring these families 00:45:01.88\00:45:03.35 into this relaxed kind of a resort setting. 00:45:03.38\00:45:06.75 And tell us about what happens 00:45:06.78\00:45:08.54 when you bring a family in there 00:45:08.57\00:45:10.00 and how long are the sessions and how do you do that? 00:45:10.03\00:45:13.20 Families are busy and so we have about 00:45:13.23\00:45:15.97 four days with each family 00:45:16.00\00:45:18.37 to really give them as much as encouragement as we can, 00:45:18.40\00:45:20.53 so we don't spend that time with them, blaming each other, 00:45:20.56\00:45:23.15 we don't spend that time with them looking back 00:45:23.18\00:45:25.07 and pointing at each other. 00:45:25.10\00:45:26.14 What we do is we equip them with skills. 00:45:26.17\00:45:28.43 First of all, what are the personalities in our family? 00:45:28.46\00:45:31.01 How are we the same, how are we different. 00:45:31.04\00:45:33.22 Give them that information how can we communicate better? 00:45:33.25\00:45:35.87 How can we communicate in ways 00:45:35.90\00:45:37.28 that really helps to get understanding? 00:45:37.31\00:45:39.48 Once we learn how to communicate, 00:45:39.51\00:45:40.73 how can we solve some of our conflict? 00:45:40.76\00:45:43.65 And then most of all, 00:45:43.68\00:45:44.71 one of the most important things families, 00:45:44.74\00:45:45.97 what do we value? 00:45:46.00\00:45:48.13 What are our shared family values, 00:45:48.16\00:45:49.77 how do we protect these things? 00:45:49.80\00:45:52.05 And then what sort of things 00:45:52.08\00:45:53.36 can we encourage the family to grow in 00:45:53.39\00:45:55.15 and it's not a bunch of sitting around, 00:45:55.18\00:45:56.89 who wants to sit around on a vacation. 00:45:56.92\00:45:59.09 It's ropes courses, it's activities, it's playing 00:45:59.12\00:46:02.31 and families really enjoy that process of learning. 00:46:02.34\00:46:05.43 So as you're bringing the families into this setting 00:46:05.46\00:46:07.75 and they are spending these four days with you. 00:46:07.78\00:46:10.41 About how many families have you helped 00:46:10.44\00:46:12.77 in this kind of setting? 00:46:12.80\00:46:14.31 We just opened a facility last summer, 00:46:14.34\00:46:16.60 which is one of those things that we say, please God, 00:46:16.63\00:46:18.53 don't make us do this during a recession. 00:46:18.56\00:46:20.86 And so it's been a scary time to do it 00:46:20.89\00:46:22.26 but God's led families into us, 00:46:22.29\00:46:23.98 we've been able to with a limited budget 00:46:24.01\00:46:26.26 for advertising we have been able to help 00:46:26.29\00:46:27.84 about 20 families now. 00:46:27.87\00:46:29.87 And how many come at a time? 00:46:29.90\00:46:31.71 We can, house, we've got 8 motel rooms 00:46:31.74\00:46:34.46 we got another 4 cabins 00:46:34.49\00:46:36.33 and most sessions are about 4 to 7 families 00:46:36.36\00:46:38.51 depending on the size of the family. 00:46:38.54\00:46:40.11 And not only there, 00:46:40.14\00:46:41.20 and the family interacting with each other 00:46:41.23\00:46:42.82 but they are interacting between families as well. 00:46:42.85\00:46:45.68 You know one of the things that Satan does is, 00:46:45.71\00:46:47.63 he isolates families. 00:46:47.66\00:46:49.28 He makes them feel like they are the only family 00:46:49.31\00:46:51.22 that doesn't quite feel close. 00:46:51.25\00:46:53.26 They go to church and they look around 00:46:53.29\00:46:54.63 and all the other families have it together 00:46:54.66\00:46:56.34 but their family tends to argue and fight, 00:46:56.37\00:46:58.89 their family can't even figure out, 00:46:58.92\00:47:00.25 where to go to eat without having this trauma. 00:47:00.28\00:47:03.61 And so having families together, 00:47:03.64\00:47:05.14 they share that experience, 00:47:05.17\00:47:06.33 know that they can struggle with some of the same things, 00:47:06.36\00:47:08.31 it's just an amazing gift to them. 00:47:08.34\00:47:10.89 And so we have the parents together part of the time, 00:47:10.92\00:47:12.66 we have the kids together part of the time, 00:47:12.69\00:47:14.60 and they discover that they're not alone 00:47:14.63\00:47:16.54 and most of all they know that 00:47:16.57\00:47:17.91 God isn't embarrassed about them, 00:47:17.94\00:47:19.73 He is willing to get into their lives and help them. 00:47:19.76\00:47:22.83 Now I know that in the process of helping these families, 00:47:22.86\00:47:25.63 you probably have a few stories to share. 00:47:25.66\00:47:27.74 Share with us a story about a family that has come 00:47:27.77\00:47:30.65 and somehow their life has been 00:47:30.68\00:47:32.46 really impacted by being there. 00:47:32.49\00:47:34.77 Yeah, we had a family that just didn't quite feel close. 00:47:34.80\00:47:38.28 They were going to transition of kids getting older 00:47:38.31\00:47:40.54 and they knew that they're having 00:47:40.57\00:47:41.61 a few more fights than they wanted, 00:47:41.64\00:47:42.93 that they were struggling finding unity. 00:47:42.96\00:47:45.15 And so they came to our site 00:47:45.18\00:47:47.37 and over those 4 days they had with us, 00:47:47.40\00:47:51.47 their daughter who is a teenager, 00:47:51.50\00:47:53.79 felt safer and safer and safer and finally revealed 00:47:53.82\00:47:56.77 that she'd been actively planning her suicide. 00:47:56.80\00:47:58.93 Oh, wow. 00:47:58.96\00:47:59.99 On the outside she was smiles and calmness 00:48:00.02\00:48:02.11 but on the inside there was incredible pain. 00:48:02.14\00:48:05.78 And the neat thing about it was, 00:48:05.81\00:48:07.08 with our therapist that are on staff 00:48:07.11\00:48:08.55 and with other caring adults there, 00:48:08.58\00:48:10.34 they were able to get her the help that she needs 00:48:10.37\00:48:11.91 and she is doing great with her family now. 00:48:11.94\00:48:14.37 I imagine that family is very grateful for the services 00:48:14.40\00:48:17.64 that you offer there at Project Patch 00:48:17.67\00:48:19.78 and working with the families. 00:48:19.81\00:48:21.36 Exactly, and for us we believe wholeheartedly 00:48:21.39\00:48:24.17 in John 10:10, 00:48:24.20\00:48:25.74 that there is a thief out there 00:48:25.77\00:48:26.96 to steal the lives of young people 00:48:26.99\00:48:28.37 that destroy families and for us the privilege 00:48:28.40\00:48:30.92 of seeing abundant life where there was before 00:48:30.95\00:48:33.07 only loss is amazing gift for us. 00:48:33.10\00:48:36.68 May be there is a family here tonight 00:48:36.71\00:48:38.05 that needs to contact you 00:48:38.08\00:48:39.17 for your services or knows a family. 00:48:39.20\00:48:41.42 What's your booth number? Praise the Lord. 00:49:34.51\00:49:36.62 How did God get you into ministry anyway? 00:49:36.65\00:49:39.34 I mean it's a long story, it goes out of tragedy. 00:49:39.37\00:49:41.33 We lost a loved one of ours, actually we had still birth 00:49:41.36\00:49:45.38 and Lord actually got us into radio, 00:49:45.41\00:49:47.94 because we want to give back to the Lord. 00:49:47.97\00:49:50.22 So we say, Lord, we want to do 10 programs for you 00:49:50.25\00:49:52.40 and then actually lead from 10 programs 00:49:52.43\00:49:54.39 to actually going on to 30 radio stations. 00:49:54.42\00:49:57.72 So God used your personal tragedy 00:49:57.75\00:50:00.32 to help heal other people 00:50:00.35\00:50:02.27 and in the process brought you some healing. 00:50:02.30\00:50:04.08 I would get Bible studies, 00:50:04.11\00:50:05.45 testimonies and things like that. 00:50:05.48\00:50:07.20 It's amazing how God works, isn't it? Amen. 00:50:07.23\00:50:09.59 That's what Isaiah 58 says, 00:50:09.62\00:50:11.71 "As we help others, God uses that to help us." 00:50:11.74\00:50:14.19 Amen, amen. 00:50:14.22\00:50:15.25 Well, we can testify to that, can't we? 00:50:15.28\00:50:17.43 So you've been involved in ministry for about 10 years, 00:50:17.46\00:50:19.84 but God didn't leave you 00:50:19.87\00:50:21.01 just with dabbling in radio a little bit. 00:50:21.04\00:50:23.41 Tell us how, what happened? 00:50:23.44\00:50:24.58 It's amazing because God expanded the vision. 00:50:24.61\00:50:27.13 We did radio for a while 00:50:27.16\00:50:28.37 and then Lord made it very clear to me, 00:50:28.40\00:50:29.97 I said, one day I was out walking, 00:50:30.00\00:50:31.67 I said, Lord, I want to be part of the 144,000. 00:50:31.70\00:50:34.25 I want to see you when you come. Amen. 00:50:34.28\00:50:36.48 And he said, something that surprised me. 00:50:36.51\00:50:38.71 He said, Cary you need to get your health right. 00:50:38.74\00:50:40.77 I said what? I said Lord, I am a vegetarian. 00:50:40.80\00:50:44.28 But then I eat chips and junk food 00:50:44.31\00:50:47.87 and things like that and I literally fell on my knees 00:50:47.90\00:50:49.81 I said, Lord I don't know how to do it, teach me. 00:50:49.84\00:50:52.58 And two days later, the Lord got me 00:50:52.61\00:50:54.82 to a program at the church, I didn't know it existed 00:50:54.85\00:50:57.92 but at the church the pastor talk about health 00:50:57.95\00:50:59.86 and how we can get healthy and things like that 00:50:59.89\00:51:01.81 and taught us about the plant based diet. 00:51:01.84\00:51:04.69 And I also lost a lot of weight 00:51:04.72\00:51:05.84 and the Lord did some amazing things with that. 00:51:05.87\00:51:08.55 So God is leading you now, He takes you through this radio 00:51:08.58\00:51:12.94 and tuning up your health and-- Right. 00:51:12.97\00:51:15.51 And step-- the next step? 00:51:15.54\00:51:17.38 The next step, after we expanded the radio, 00:51:17.41\00:51:19.99 the Lord said, now I want you 00:51:20.02\00:51:21.15 to add the health ministry to your ministry. 00:51:21.18\00:51:24.31 The Bible and health, that's effective ministry. 00:51:24.34\00:51:26.08 So God gets you healthy and then He said, 00:51:26.11\00:51:27.78 now I want you to minister to others. 00:51:27.81\00:51:28.86 Exactly. Amen. 00:51:28.89\00:51:30.14 But the amazing thing as He said, 00:51:30.17\00:51:31.36 I want you to start a lifestyle health retreat, 00:51:31.39\00:51:33.68 and I want you to also to start a college of Bible 00:51:33.71\00:51:35.92 and health evangelism. 00:51:35.95\00:51:37.31 And I said, wow, this is a big plan 00:51:37.34\00:51:38.74 and at that time, we didn't have much resources at all. 00:51:38.77\00:51:41.33 We are staying in a one bedroom 00:51:41.36\00:51:45.44 actually, my whole family at a time, 00:51:45.47\00:51:47.25 because most of the money went to the radio stations 00:51:47.28\00:51:49.93 and God gave us the vision to do this, 00:51:49.96\00:51:53.10 and I said, okay Lord, let's just do it, 00:51:53.13\00:51:54.61 I've just learned to say yes. 00:51:54.64\00:51:56.66 And so God took your humbleness 00:51:56.69\00:51:59.68 and said we're going to do something. That's right. 00:51:59.71\00:52:02.00 So what has He done with that? 00:52:02.03\00:52:03.22 Well, He actually did it. 00:52:03.25\00:52:04.48 I mean, we actually went from Michigan, 00:52:04.51\00:52:06.10 we were on mission at the time and actually he sent us 00:52:06.13\00:52:08.44 all the way down to North Carolina. 00:52:08.47\00:52:10.90 And to just land there, 00:52:10.93\00:52:12.52 he said, I just want to send you to this place. 00:52:12.55\00:52:15.03 We landed not knowing 00:52:15.06\00:52:16.44 he said, I want you to get lifestyle center, 00:52:16.47\00:52:18.27 that takes property, it takes land, 00:52:18.30\00:52:20.07 but he said I want you to get started. 00:52:20.10\00:52:21.20 So we just packed our car, drove down there, 00:52:21.23\00:52:24.56 he opened up a place for an apartment, 00:52:24.59\00:52:26.48 and as soon as we got there about a few weeks later, 00:52:26.51\00:52:28.98 the Lord opened up doors, 00:52:29.01\00:52:31.25 we can actually minister to children, 00:52:31.28\00:52:32.97 with Bible and health. 00:52:33.00\00:52:34.12 And then we were able to minister to various churches 00:52:34.15\00:52:36.37 in there with Bible and health, 00:52:36.40\00:52:37.50 and I didn't know a whole lot but I just knew a little bit, 00:52:37.53\00:52:40.13 what I've learned in the past about the NEWSTART program 00:52:40.16\00:52:43.69 and I implemented that NEWSTART program 00:52:43.72\00:52:45.33 and people were, it was to change thier lives, 00:52:45.36\00:52:47.36 there's change in my life. 00:52:47.39\00:52:48.62 So then God gave you some property to go with that. 00:52:48.65\00:52:51.92 It wasn't that, but the story is a long story 00:52:51.95\00:52:56.39 but the Lord did it, matter of fact, 00:52:56.42\00:52:58.02 we got there about two years later, 00:52:58.05\00:52:59.37 he opened up the way for a 40-acres of property 00:52:59.40\00:53:02.05 with two houses and a cabin on it 00:53:02.08\00:53:04.42 with a beautiful lake pond there in it. 00:53:04.45\00:53:07.51 And that's the amazing story in itself 00:53:07.54\00:53:09.23 but don't have time to go through it. 00:53:09.26\00:53:10.76 You come to our booth if you want to come 00:53:10.79\00:53:12.46 and listen about that story but it's amazing 00:53:12.49\00:53:15.15 because I could tell you God is real in His last days, 00:53:15.18\00:53:18.14 no doubt about it. 00:53:18.17\00:53:19.25 And I am nobody special at all. 00:53:19.28\00:53:21.26 I am just a regular plain old lay person. 00:53:21.29\00:53:24.84 But you are willing to step out in faith. 00:53:24.87\00:53:26.82 I have to, if God says do it, we got to do it. 00:53:26.85\00:53:29.03 So you have this lifestyle center now 00:53:29.06\00:53:31.81 in this property that God has supplied 00:53:31.84\00:53:34.04 and you're ministering there. 00:53:34.07\00:53:35.71 And I know that during this process, 00:53:35.74\00:53:37.78 lives are being changed. Amen. 00:53:37.81\00:53:40.00 We have a few stories tonight, 00:53:40.03\00:53:41.89 just a little testimony about how lives are being changed, 00:53:41.92\00:53:44.10 we're going to play that now, 00:53:44.13\00:53:45.45 and just watch and see the testimonies 00:53:45.48\00:53:47.60 that lives are being affected.
