episodes in the Old Testament

that descends from heaven

showing that God accepted
and approved of the sacrifice.

I'd like to begin with the
sacrifice that was made by Abel.

Now the Bible does not
tell us that fire descended

from heaven. However, the
Spirit of Prophecy does have

a very clear
statement in Signs of the Times

February 6, 1879,

where she speaks about God's
response to Abel's sacrifice.

This is what she says:

Now you say, "Well,
Ellen White says that

but it's not in the Bible. "

I'm going to give you
several other examples that show

that this is the pattern
that is followed in scripture.

that I read as I

where they say that the way
that God shows that He approved

of Abel's sacrifice

and the way that God disapproved
of Cain's was that the smoke

went down. That
doesn't make much sense

and it doesn't fit at all
what we find in scripture.

of sacrifice and then fire

concerning Abel's sacrifice.

Now I'd like to go a little
bit further forward to the

Now I would like us to
take a look at a different

teaches the same truth.

episodes in the Old Testament.

examine those two episodes

to decipher the symbols

no other nation has a Rock

like the Rock that we
have which is the Lord.

So they should have known
even in the Old Testament period

that that Rock
represented the Lord.

And of course, the Lord who
guided them was none other than

And yet she comes at that
time because she doesn't want

to meet anyone.

And there, of course, is Jesus.

And Jesus says to her:
"Give Me water to drink. "

She immediately looks at Him
and says: "How is it that You

a Jew would ask a
Samaritan for water? "

Because Jews and Samaritans
don't speak to one another.

them to get some food.

they were usually not very much

They say "Well, maybe somebody

speaking about physical food.

pointed out into the distance

you'll find that Ellen White
tells us that Jesus was not

wheat or fields of barley.

Jesus was pointing at
the entire town of Sychar

that was coming with
this woman to hear the words

that Jesus had spoken to her.

drunk from the water

and now she had gone back to
Sychar and she had witnessed.

people from town were coming

to listen to the words of Jesus.

She drank the water
and then she became what?

She became a fountain of water.

So what is the
sequence in these rock episodes?

Jesus Christ came to this earth
