Now before we invite Pastor Bohr to come 00:02:10.47\00:02:13.65 and break the bread of life I want you to 00:02:13.85\00:02:16.62 also ask the Lord to speak to your heart through this song. 00:02:16.82\00:02:19.06 You know we are living in troublous times. 00:02:19.26\00:02:20.99 We're living in difficult times where people are 00:02:21.39\00:02:24.17 wondering whether or not to continue following the Lord 00:02:24.48\00:02:27.79 in the midst of their trials. 00:02:27.99\00:02:29.20 Well you know, I would encourage you to listen to the words 00:02:29.40\00:02:32.36 of this song because it says 00:02:32.56\00:02:34.07 regardless of how God is going to lead you 00:02:34.27\00:02:36.94 allow Him to lead you 00:02:37.14\00:02:38.68 and the end of that journey will be the house of the Lord 00:02:38.88\00:02:41.96 forever. God leads His dear children... no matter what 00:02:42.16\00:02:44.87 the circumstances. Praise His name! Is it morning? 00:06:35.75\00:06:39.58 Well you have to forgive me. 00:06:44.82\00:06:47.34 The last couple of weeks I've been in Australia 00:06:47.44\00:06:50.70 and in Sweden. 00:06:50.80\00:06:53.31 Nine hours west and nine hours east. 00:06:53.51\00:06:55.66 So I guess it would be a good noon. 00:06:55.96\00:07:00.64 It's good to be back at 3ABN 00:07:02.12\00:07:04.16 in this area of the country where our family has roots. 00:07:04.46\00:07:09.38 Our son was born in West Frankfort when I had 00:07:09.68\00:07:13.29 the privilege of pastoring the West Frankfort church 00:07:13.42\00:07:16.10 many, many years ago. 00:07:16.30\00:07:18.19 I won't tell you how many. 00:07:18.49\00:07:20.09 Before we open God's Word 00:07:22.48\00:07:23.76 we do want to ask for the Lord's special blessing. 00:07:23.96\00:07:26.17 And so I invite you to bow your heads with me 00:07:26.37\00:07:28.63 as we pray. Father in Heaven, 00:07:28.73\00:07:31.83 what a joy it is to be here at 3ABN Pillars Camp Meeting. 00:07:32.03\00:07:36.21 We thank you, Father, that we are able to review 00:07:36.51\00:07:39.37 and remember the message 00:07:39.67\00:07:42.63 that You have committed to Your church. 00:07:42.73\00:07:44.69 And Father, as we open Your Word 00:07:44.99\00:07:47.70 we ask for the presence of Your Spirit 00:07:47.90\00:07:50.78 through the ministry of the angels. 00:07:50.98\00:07:52.57 Give us clear minds 00:07:52.88\00:07:55.33 and tender hearts to receive the word of truth. 00:07:55.53\00:07:59.19 We thank you, Father, for the promise of Your presence 00:07:59.49\00:08:02.98 because we ask it in the precious name of Jesus. Amen. 00:08:03.18\00:08:07.72 On Sabbath evening at 6 o'clock I'm going to be speaking 00:08:11.06\00:08:15.21 on Christ's ministry in the sanctuary 00:08:15.41\00:08:17.76 and so I decided that the other two topics - 00:08:18.06\00:08:21.69 the one today at noon and tomorrow at noon - 00:08:21.89\00:08:24.70 I would deal also with subjects relating to the sanctuary. 00:08:24.90\00:08:28.81 And what I would like to share this morning is 00:08:29.97\00:08:32.32 the fact that there is a very intimate connection 00:08:32.52\00:08:36.08 between what happened at the cross 00:08:36.28\00:08:39.40 and what took place on the Day of Pentecost. 00:08:39.60\00:08:43.55 Without the cross, there would have been no Pentecost. 00:08:44.63\00:08:48.55 What happened on the Day of Pentecost was dependent 00:08:48.85\00:08:52.68 upon what Jesus did at the cross. 00:08:52.88\00:08:56.77 And what I would like to do as we begin our study 00:08:57.01\00:08:59.48 is to go to several episodes in the Old Testament 00:08:59.68\00:09:04.35 where first of all you have a sacrifice 00:09:04.55\00:09:07.43 and then you have fire that descends from heaven 00:09:07.63\00:09:11.92 to consume that sacrifice 00:09:12.12\00:09:14.16 showing that God accepted and approved of the sacrifice. 00:09:14.36\00:09:19.23 I'd like to begin with the sacrifice that was made by Abel. 00:09:19.47\00:09:23.50 Now the Bible does not tell us that fire descended 00:09:23.90\00:09:27.26 from heaven. However, the Spirit of Prophecy does have 00:09:27.47\00:09:31.35 a very clear statement in Signs of the Times 00:09:31.55\00:09:34.55 February 6, 1879, 00:09:34.76\00:09:37.52 where she speaks about God's response to Abel's sacrifice. 00:09:37.82\00:09:43.14 This is what she says: 00:09:43.35\00:09:44.71 Now you say, "Well, Ellen White says that 00:09:57.49\00:10:00.09 but it's not in the Bible. " 00:10:00.29\00:10:01.33 I'm going to give you several other examples that show 00:10:01.63\00:10:04.89 that this is the pattern that is followed in scripture. 00:10:04.99\00:10:08.28 It's much better than many commentators 00:10:08.58\00:10:11.07 that I read as I was doing research 00:10:11.27\00:10:13.99 where they say that the way that God shows that He approved 00:10:14.19\00:10:16.80 of Abel's sacrifice was that the smoke went up 00:10:16.90\00:10:19.58 and the way that God disapproved of Cain's was that the smoke 00:10:19.78\00:10:23.62 went down. That doesn't make much sense 00:10:23.82\00:10:26.39 and it doesn't fit at all what we find in scripture. 00:10:26.69\00:10:31.28 So the first example of sacrifice and then fire 00:10:31.49\00:10:34.77 is this one concerning Abel's sacrifice. 00:10:34.97\00:10:38.33 Now I'd like to go a little bit further forward to the 00:10:38.53\00:10:41.42 inauguration of the tabernacle in the wilderness. 00:10:41.62\00:10:45.64 Notice what we find in Leviticus chapter 9 00:10:45.88\00:10:48.52 and verses 22 to 24. 00:10:48.72\00:10:50.78 And this morning at my hotel room I was watching 00:10:51.08\00:10:53.93 a little bit of the audience shots here 00:10:54.13\00:10:56.85 and I noticed several rows where everybody had their Bibles 00:10:57.05\00:11:00.74 and they were turning the pages. And I said: 00:11:00.84\00:11:02.25 "Man, it must be musical there this morning. " 00:11:02.36\00:11:04.41 Because that's the kind of music that ministers like to hear 00:11:04.61\00:11:07.91 is the pages of the Bible turning. And once in a while 00:11:08.01\00:11:10.41 at least an Amen. 00:11:10.51\00:11:12.00 Not cell phones. 00:11:12.30\00:11:14.36 Now, Leviticus 9:22-24. Notice a pattern: 00:11:14.46\00:11:18.58 sacrifice/fire. It says there: 00:11:18.68\00:11:21.29 So sacrifice/fire in the case of Abel. 00:11:56.74\00:12:00.92 Sacrifice/fire when the tabernacle was inaugurated 00:12:01.12\00:12:05.35 in the wilderness. 00:12:05.45\00:12:06.64 Now the same is true during the period of the Hebrew monarchy. 00:12:06.84\00:12:10.67 Let me give you one example. 00:12:10.97\00:12:12.13 I Chronicles chapter 21 and verse 26. 00:12:12.43\00:12:16.43 This is a sacrifice that was offered by David 00:12:16.67\00:12:19.25 on Araunah's threshing floor. 00:12:19.45\00:12:21.80 I want you to notice the same pattern all over again: 00:12:22.00\00:12:24.78 sacrifice/fire. 00:12:25.08\00:12:26.81 I Chronicles chapter 21 and verse 26. 00:12:27.11\00:12:30.68 It says there: 00:12:30.78\00:12:31.82 Once again: sacrifice/fire. 00:12:51.30\00:12:54.86 The same is true when Solomon's temple was inaugurated 00:12:55.16\00:12:59.52 or dedicated. 00:12:59.62\00:13:00.72 And we call it Solomon's temple even though it was the Lord's 00:13:00.92\00:13:03.63 temple. But the temple that was built by Solomon 00:13:03.73\00:13:06.84 when it was dedicated we find the same pattern all over again. 00:13:07.04\00:13:10.53 II Chronicles chapter 7 and verse 1 00:13:10.83\00:13:13.56 has this story of the moment when fire fell from heaven 00:13:13.76\00:13:19.49 after Solomon's dedicatory prayer. 00:13:19.69\00:13:22.43 It says there in II Chronicles chapter 7 and verse 1: 00:13:22.73\00:13:26.09 So once again, sacrifice/fire. 00:13:41.68\00:13:45.37 Now let's take one example from the period 00:13:45.67\00:13:48.91 of the Hebrew prophets. 00:13:49.11\00:13:50.63 We all remember the story of the prophet Elijah. 00:13:50.93\00:13:53.89 Go with me to I Kings chapter 18 and verse 38. 00:13:54.09\00:13:58.31 I Kings chapter 18 and verse 38. 00:13:58.52\00:14:01.55 Here we find the story of the sacrifices that 00:14:02.06\00:14:07.02 Elijah placed upon the altar and God's response. 00:14:07.22\00:14:11.24 It says there: 00:14:11.47\00:14:12.48 So you find this pattern in scripture 00:14:34.58\00:14:37.14 where you have sacrifice or offering and then you have 00:14:37.34\00:14:40.84 fire from heaven where God shows that He approves 00:14:41.04\00:14:45.05 and He accepts that sacrifice which has been placed 00:14:45.25\00:14:48.39 upon the altar. 00:14:48.59\00:14:50.44 Now I would like us to take a look at a different 00:14:50.64\00:14:53.66 illustration that teaches the same truth. 00:14:53.86\00:14:56.42 And this is where I want us to dedicate most of our time 00:14:56.73\00:14:59.76 in our study today. 00:14:59.79\00:15:01.10 Instead of this example speaking of sacrifice 00:15:01.30\00:15:06.28 and then fire showing approval of the sacrifice 00:15:06.49\00:15:09.37 this illustration that we find in scripture 00:15:09.57\00:15:13.23 is really striking the rock and water coming forth 00:15:13.43\00:15:17.93 from the rock as a sign of God's approval. 00:15:18.13\00:15:20.81 Now there are two rock episodes in the Old Testament. 00:15:21.95\00:15:24.74 And I would like us to examine those two episodes 00:15:24.94\00:15:27.89 to see this same pattern: sacrifice/fire, 00:15:28.09\00:15:31.66 striking the rock/water. 00:15:31.86\00:15:34.36 That's the parallel. 00:15:34.67\00:15:35.74 Now go with me to Exodus chapter 17 00:15:36.04\00:15:38.66 and we'll read verses 1 through 6. 00:15:38.86\00:15:41.14 Same lesson... different symbols. 00:15:41.34\00:15:43.87 Exodus chapter 17 and verses 1 through 6. 00:15:44.17\00:15:48.93 Of course, Israel was in the wilderness 00:15:49.16\00:15:51.76 and they had no water to drink 00:15:52.06\00:15:54.28 and they started murmuring against God. 00:15:54.48\00:15:56.78 Now let's read the story as it's recorded there: 00:15:56.98\00:16:00.04 And now notice what God tells Moses: 00:16:51.06\00:16:53.48 Now we have three symbols in this story. 00:17:23.57\00:17:26.85 The first symbol that we have in this story is the rock. 00:17:27.15\00:17:30.08 The second symbol that we have in this story is the rod. 00:17:31.43\00:17:34.73 And in the third place we have the symbolism of water. 00:17:35.13\00:17:39.29 So we have the rock, we have the rod, 00:17:39.59\00:17:42.80 and we have the water. 00:17:43.00\00:17:44.55 Now once we're able to decipher the symbols 00:17:44.75\00:17:47.77 we'll be able to determine the meaning of this passage. 00:17:47.97\00:17:51.25 So let's begin by speaking about the rock. 00:17:51.55\00:17:54.55 What does the rock represent? 00:17:54.75\00:17:56.92 Absolutely. Now let me ask you: 00:17:57.89\00:18:00.77 could Israel have known that the rock represented the Lord 00:18:00.97\00:18:04.19 even in the Old Testament? 00:18:04.29\00:18:05.60 Of course they could've. 00:18:05.80\00:18:07.16 Go with me to Deuteronomy chapter 32 and verse 4. 00:18:07.46\00:18:10.73 This is a thought that appears 9 times in Deuteronomy 32. 00:18:10.93\00:18:15.31 Deuteronomy 32 and verse 4. 00:18:15.51\00:18:18.25 It says there speaking about the Lord: 00:18:18.55\00:18:23.01 So did they already know in the Old Testament 00:18:38.16\00:18:41.22 that the rock represented the Lord? 00:18:41.42\00:18:43.03 Absolutely. Nine times in chapter 32 of Deuteronomy 00:18:43.23\00:18:47.49 the Lord is called the Rock. 00:18:47.69\00:18:50.26 In fact it says there no other nation has a Rock 00:18:50.47\00:18:54.42 like the Rock that we have which is the Lord. 00:18:54.63\00:18:57.52 So they should have known even in the Old Testament period 00:18:57.82\00:19:00.52 that that Rock represented the Lord. 00:19:00.66\00:19:02.61 And of course, the Lord who guided them was none other than 00:19:02.81\00:19:05.52 Jesus Christ Himself. 00:19:05.72\00:19:07.04 Now the New Testament makes this explicit. 00:19:07.35\00:19:10.17 Notice I Corinthians chapter 10 and verses 1 through 4. 00:19:10.37\00:19:14.37 I Corinthians chapter 10 and verses 1 through 4. 00:19:14.57\00:19:18.43 Here the apostle Paul is reminiscing about certain events 00:19:19.55\00:19:22.68 in the history of Israel. 00:19:22.78\00:19:23.95 And he says this: 00:19:24.16\00:19:25.77 The Bible is explicit. 00:19:55.17\00:19:57.47 In the Old and New Testament the Rock is the Lord. 00:19:57.67\00:20:00.58 But that Lord is none other than Jesus Christ. 00:20:00.78\00:20:04.31 So we know that in the symbolism is Exodus chapter 17 00:20:04.61\00:20:08.48 the Rock represents Jesus. 00:20:08.69\00:20:11.01 Now the question is: what is represented by the rod? 00:20:11.31\00:20:14.66 The fact is that the rod represents judgment. 00:20:14.96\00:20:19.62 Every time that Moses raises his rod 00:20:19.82\00:20:23.29 a judgment falls upon Egypt. 00:20:23.49\00:20:25.98 In fact, it's interesting that that word smite 00:20:26.09\00:20:29.60 that is used... "You will smite the rock... " 00:20:29.81\00:20:31.60 is used... For example, the Bible says that he "smote 00:20:31.80\00:20:35.66 the waters and they became like blood. " 00:20:35.86\00:20:38.01 He smote the dust and from the dust came lice. 00:20:38.21\00:20:42.51 He also smote the firstborn in Egypt. 00:20:42.71\00:20:46.29 In other words, the word smiting with the rod 00:20:46.60\00:20:49.43 represents judgment. 00:20:49.63\00:20:51.85 In fact, the word smite there that is used for 00:20:52.05\00:20:55.24 "smite the rock" is the Hebrew word nakah 00:20:55.44\00:20:58.23 which means to strike, to beat, 00:20:58.43\00:21:01.71 to smite, to hit, 00:21:01.91\00:21:04.40 to slay, to kill, 00:21:04.47\00:21:07.07 to receive a blow, or to be wounded. 00:21:07.27\00:21:11.27 So the rod represents judgment. 00:21:11.47\00:21:15.47 It represents punishment. 00:21:15.78\00:21:18.04 Now let's notice a Messianic text that uses that same 00:21:18.24\00:21:22.59 identical word smite... the word nakah. 00:21:22.79\00:21:25.17 Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 4. 00:21:25.47\00:21:28.29 Does that chapter sound familiar when it comes to the Messiah? 00:21:28.59\00:21:31.56 Isaiah 53 and verse 4 00:21:31.76\00:21:34.37 uses this identical word... "you will smite the rock. " 00:21:34.57\00:21:38.53 Notice what it says there in this very well-known verse: 00:21:38.83\00:21:43.59 That's the word nakah. 00:21:55.21\00:21:56.62 It's the same word that is used for smiting the rock. 00:21:56.72\00:21:59.37 So it says: 00:21:59.67\00:22:00.94 So the rod of punishment falls upon whom? 00:22:10.26\00:22:14.36 It falls upon the Rock. 00:22:14.66\00:22:16.81 God's judgment falls upon the Rock 00:22:17.01\00:22:19.93 and the Rock is Jesus Christ. 00:22:20.13\00:22:21.74 In other words, Jesus was smitten for our sins. 00:22:22.04\00:22:25.86 The judgment of the Father fell upon Him. 00:22:26.10\00:22:28.54 And then of course we have the symbolism of the water 00:22:29.82\00:22:32.56 that comes from the Rock when the Rock is smitten. 00:22:32.66\00:22:35.67 Now the question is: what does the water that comes 00:22:35.97\00:22:40.32 forth from the Rock represent? 00:22:40.53\00:22:42.58 Basically it represents the same as the fire that comes 00:22:43.82\00:22:47.25 after the sacrifice. 00:22:47.45\00:22:48.87 It represents the fact that God approved 00:22:49.08\00:22:52.90 of the smiting of the Rock 00:22:53.10\00:22:54.80 and He reveals it or He shows it 00:22:55.11\00:22:57.93 by having water come out of the Rock. 00:22:58.13\00:23:01.05 Now the question is: what does the water represent? 00:23:01.35\00:23:05.03 We don't have to guess. 00:23:05.34\00:23:06.88 Go with me to John chapter 7 and verses 37 to 39. 00:23:06.98\00:23:11.34 John chapter 7 and verses 37 through 39. 00:23:11.64\00:23:16.21 I want us to notice a very important pattern here. 00:23:16.52\00:23:19.02 And we're going to come back to this a little bit later 00:23:19.32\00:23:22.36 when we speak about the Day of Pentecost. 00:23:22.56\00:23:24.62 John 7 verses 37-39. 00:23:24.72\00:23:28.17 Jesus is at the Feast of Tabernacles. 00:23:28.37\00:23:31.10 It's the 8th day of the Feast of Tabernacles... 00:23:31.20\00:23:33.69 Tabernacles... the last day. 00:23:33.89\00:23:35.57 And notice what it says: 00:23:35.77\00:23:37.90 So who is the Rock? Jesus. 00:23:53.55\00:23:56.09 Where does the water come from? From Jesus. 00:23:56.19\00:23:59.20 So He says: "Let him come to Me and drink. " 00:23:59.40\00:24:01.79 What was He talking about? Let's continue reading: 00:24:01.99\00:24:04.25 Now do you notice something interesting here? 00:24:14.94\00:24:16.91 Where are these waters flowing from? 00:24:17.11\00:24:19.87 From the heart of the person who drank. 00:24:20.07\00:24:23.30 Are you with me? In other words, the person drinks the waters 00:24:23.50\00:24:27.68 and then that person becomes a fountain or a tributary 00:24:27.88\00:24:32.29 of the waters. And so it says here 00:24:32.49\00:24:35.44 "He who believes in Me" as the scripture has said 00:24:35.64\00:24:38.04 "out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. " 00:24:38.24\00:24:42.58 What was Jesus talking about? 00:24:42.88\00:24:44.68 Verse 39: 00:24:44.88\00:24:46.05 So what do the waters represent? 00:25:00.73\00:25:03.13 They represent the Holy Spirit that was poured out when? 00:25:03.43\00:25:06.93 On the Day of Pentecost because that's when Jesus 00:25:07.34\00:25:10.52 was glorified as Prince and Priest over His people. 00:25:10.72\00:25:14.49 In other words, because of His sacrifice on Calvary, 00:25:14.79\00:25:18.82 because He fell under the judgment of God, 00:25:18.96\00:25:20.94 He is now able to pour out what? 00:25:21.14\00:25:23.97 To pour out His Holy Spirit. 00:25:24.17\00:25:26.25 By the way, in the first illustration that we used 00:25:26.55\00:25:29.33 Jesus is sacrificed and God shows His approval 00:25:29.53\00:25:32.81 by raining tongues of fire from heaven on the Day of Pentecost. 00:25:33.01\00:25:37.80 So you have the same teaching: sacrifice and fire, 00:25:38.04\00:25:41.37 striking the Rock and water coming from the Rock. 00:25:41.57\00:25:44.49 Now I want to pursue this idea a little bit 00:25:44.79\00:25:47.46 of drinking the waters and then you becoming a fountain 00:25:47.66\00:25:50.75 of water. You notice it says: "Come to Me and drink" 00:25:50.85\00:25:53.41 and then it speaks about waters gushing out of your heart. 00:25:53.61\00:25:56.90 Let me give you an illustration so that we can understand 00:25:57.10\00:25:59.98 what Jesus is trying to teach here. 00:26:00.18\00:26:01.83 You know, we go outside on a beautiful evening 00:26:02.70\00:26:06.31 when the sky is clear and we see the beautiful, full moon. 00:26:06.51\00:26:11.44 And we say: "Oh my, the moon is so beautiful tonight. " 00:26:12.50\00:26:16.47 Do you know what we should really say? 00:26:17.82\00:26:19.48 "Oh my, the sun is so beautiful tonight. " 00:26:19.78\00:26:23.07 Because the light of the moon is the light of the sun. 00:26:24.30\00:26:28.21 It receives light from the sun and then it projects 00:26:28.95\00:26:32.50 the sunlight to the earth. 00:26:32.53\00:26:34.05 And so it is with Jesus. 00:26:34.45\00:26:36.79 When we are in connection with the light 00:26:37.09\00:26:39.77 as a result we will reflect the light. 00:26:39.97\00:26:42.25 When we drink the living waters of the Spirit 00:26:42.55\00:26:45.75 then we become a source of life to others 00:26:45.95\00:26:49.25 as the Holy Spirit is poured through us to other people. 00:26:49.46\00:26:53.51 In fact, notice I Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:26:53.81\00:26:57.92 I Corinthians chapter 12 and verse 13. 00:26:58.12\00:27:01.27 Here it says clearly that the water is a symbol 00:27:01.47\00:27:04.63 of the Holy Spirit. It says: 00:27:04.83\00:27:06.85 So what is it that we drink? 00:27:21.02\00:27:22.74 We drink the Holy Spirit symbolically speaking. 00:27:22.94\00:27:26.58 And then when we drink the Holy Spirit 00:27:26.78\00:27:28.63 the waters are in us and those waters flow as a blessing 00:27:28.83\00:27:33.20 to other people. In fact, Ellen White says 00:27:33.40\00:27:35.82 that if we don't have any light to impart it's because 00:27:35.92\00:27:38.73 we have no connection with the source of light. 00:27:38.83\00:27:40.95 If we have no water to give it's because we have not 00:27:41.35\00:27:45.12 received the water in the first place. 00:27:45.22\00:27:47.99 Now we need to go to the second rock episode. 00:27:48.22\00:27:51.12 It's found in Numbers chapter 20 and verses 7 through 11. 00:27:51.52\00:27:55.74 There's a very important difference 00:27:56.04\00:27:57.91 between the two stories. 00:27:58.11\00:27:59.50 Numbers chapter 20 and verses 7 through 11. 00:27:59.70\00:28:03.67 It says here: 00:28:04.93\00:28:06.04 What was he told to do? 00:28:21.03\00:28:22.69 What was he told to do the first time? 00:28:22.99\00:28:25.13 Strike or smite. But now he's told 00:28:25.34\00:28:28.40 "speak to the Rock before their eyes. " 00:28:28.60\00:28:30.97 What was so serious about this striking the rock by Moses? 00:29:05.00\00:29:10.36 The fact is folks that the Rock was only going to be smitten 00:29:10.66\00:29:14.59 once. The book of Hebrews say that Jesus was to die 00:29:14.69\00:29:18.79 "once for all. " 00:29:18.97\00:29:20.76 He would never have to fall under the judgment of God again. 00:29:20.96\00:29:24.48 He did it once and that was it. 00:29:24.68\00:29:27.04 So Moses was ruining the beautiful symbol 00:29:27.24\00:29:30.51 that Jesus was going to fall under the judgment 00:29:30.82\00:29:33.48 of His Father once and that if now if we want the Holy Spirit 00:29:33.58\00:29:37.36 all we have to do is ask and we shall receive. Amen. 00:29:37.56\00:29:42.37 Allow me to read you the inspired commentary 00:29:42.50\00:29:44.81 from Ellen White, Patriarchs and Prophets page 418. 00:29:44.91\00:29:48.76 She caught the nuance of what the seriousness 00:29:48.79\00:29:51.75 of the sin of Moses was. 00:29:51.85\00:29:53.75 She says: "By this rash act Moses took away the force 00:29:53.95\00:29:58.65 of the lesson that God purposed to teach. 00:29:58.85\00:30:01.28 The Rock - being a symbol of Christ - 00:30:01.58\00:30:05.21 had been once smitten 00:30:05.41\00:30:08.04 as Christ was to be once offered. 00:30:08.24\00:30:10.92 The second time it was needful only to speak to the Rock 00:30:11.12\00:30:15.44 as we have only to ask for blessings 00:30:15.64\00:30:19.45 in the name of Jesus. 00:30:19.65\00:30:21.15 By the second smiting of the Rock 00:30:21.35\00:30:23.64 the significance of the beautiful figure of Christ 00:30:23.84\00:30:27.10 was destroyed. " 00:30:27.30\00:30:29.15 Therein lied the terrible sin of Moses. 00:30:29.55\00:30:34.11 You see, if we want the Holy Spirit now, 00:30:34.41\00:30:36.75 we don't have to have Jesus fall under the judgment of God 00:30:36.95\00:30:39.53 again. And there's one church in the world that 00:30:39.63\00:30:41.80 teaches that Jesus is sacrificed anew every time 00:30:42.00\00:30:45.81 that people partake of the Eucharist. 00:30:46.01\00:30:48.66 The Bible teaches NO! Jesus fell under the judgment 00:30:48.86\00:30:52.74 of God once. He died once for all! 00:30:52.94\00:30:55.17 He suffered the judgment of the Father once. 00:30:55.37\00:30:57.70 And if we want the Holy Spirit today, all we have to do 00:30:57.80\00:31:00.84 is ask. Amen. 00:31:00.94\00:31:02.91 Notice Luke 11 and verse 13 00:31:03.11\00:31:05.29 where Jesus expresses this explicitly. 00:31:05.49\00:31:07.99 Notice Luke 11 and verse 13. Jesus says: 00:31:08.19\00:31:13.58 There you have the speaking to the Rock: 00:31:31.31\00:31:34.05 asking Jesus for His Holy Spirit. 00:31:34.26\00:31:37.15 In fact, Ellen White tells us in the devotional book 00:31:37.45\00:31:40.91 In Heavenly Places page 113: 00:31:41.01\00:31:43.41 "There is one blessing that all may have who seek for it 00:31:43.61\00:31:47.07 in the right way. 00:31:47.27\00:31:48.40 It is the Holy Spirit of God 00:31:48.60\00:31:50.64 and this is a blessing that brings all other blessings 00:31:50.84\00:31:55.30 in its train. " 00:31:55.50\00:31:56.79 Now let's go and speak a little bit about the Day of Pentecost. 00:31:57.84\00:32:01.24 What happened on the Day of Pentecost? 00:32:01.44\00:32:03.72 Now in order to understand the Day of Pentecost 00:32:04.03\00:32:06.25 we need to understand what Jesus did before that. 00:32:06.35\00:32:08.86 Now the first thing that Jesus does in the sanctuary is 00:32:09.99\00:32:13.68 to live a sinless life. 00:32:13.88\00:32:16.12 Now let me ask you this: 00:32:17.61\00:32:19.68 um, does the law require absolute sinless perfection? 00:32:19.88\00:32:22.76 Yes. Does the law say obey and live? 00:32:23.06\00:32:25.78 It most certainly does. 00:32:26.08\00:32:27.43 Now what happens if we don't offer the law 00:32:27.64\00:32:30.30 that sinless perfection? 00:32:30.50\00:32:32.07 The law says you must what? You must die. 00:32:32.27\00:32:35.17 How many of us have broken the law? 00:32:35.37\00:32:38.27 Raise your hand if at least once in your life you've 00:32:38.30\00:32:40.70 broken the law. Uh, those of you who did not raise your hand, 00:32:40.80\00:32:44.72 uh, you just broke the law because you're lying. 00:32:44.92\00:32:47.11 See the law says you have to offer me absolute sinless 00:32:52.53\00:32:56.61 perfection, and if you don't you'll die. 00:32:56.71\00:32:59.38 And none of us can offer the law sinless perfection 00:32:59.58\00:33:01.79 so we're all on death row. 00:33:01.99\00:33:03.35 So do you know what we needed? 00:33:03.55\00:33:05.53 We needed someone to come to this earth and to live the life 00:33:05.73\00:33:08.80 that we should live. 00:33:09.00\00:33:10.14 And we needed someone to come to this earth to die the death 00:33:11.24\00:33:14.27 that we should die. 00:33:14.47\00:33:15.53 We needed someone to live for us and to die for us. 00:33:15.83\00:33:20.25 And that's exactly what Jesus did. 00:33:20.48\00:33:22.52 He came to the camp. 00:33:22.72\00:33:24.46 That's where the sanctuary really begins. 00:33:24.66\00:33:26.31 He came to the camp. He dwelled in our midst. 00:33:26.42\00:33:29.30 He was tempted in all things such as we are... 00:33:29.50\00:33:32.16 yet He never sinned. 00:33:32.36\00:33:33.62 That life He lived in behalf of every single human being 00:33:33.82\00:33:37.57 that has ever drawn breath on planet earth. 00:33:37.77\00:33:40.04 And then Jesus went to the cross. 00:33:40.34\00:33:42.53 And on the cross Jesus died the death that all human beings 00:33:42.83\00:33:46.82 should die. His death was for every single human being 00:33:46.92\00:33:50.19 on earth that has ever drawn breath. 00:33:50.39\00:33:52.23 And so you have Jesus coming to the camp 00:33:52.63\00:33:55.00 and living His sinless life. 00:33:55.20\00:33:56.98 Then going into the court at the altar of sacrifice, 00:33:57.28\00:34:01.69 dying His death in place of human beings. 00:34:01.90\00:34:05.07 Then He moves to the laver which represents the resurrection 00:34:05.37\00:34:09.01 because it's called the laver of regeneration. 00:34:09.21\00:34:12.38 And then what is the next place in the sanctuary? 00:34:12.68\00:34:15.70 The next place is the holy place of the sanctuary. 00:34:16.00\00:34:20.27 I've never been able to understand how people say 00:34:20.58\00:34:22.92 that Jesus went directly into the most holy place 00:34:23.12\00:34:25.41 when He ascended to heaven. 00:34:25.61\00:34:26.62 That would mean that He would have to skip over 00:34:27.02\00:34:29.05 the holy place. The fact is that He first comes 00:34:29.25\00:34:32.00 and He dwells with us in the camp. 00:34:32.20\00:34:34.05 Then He goes to the altar of sacrifice and He dies. 00:34:34.35\00:34:37.36 He resurrects at the laver and then the next place 00:34:37.56\00:34:40.50 in the sanctuary is the holy place of the sanctuary. 00:34:40.70\00:34:43.93 And that's exactly where Jesus went: 00:34:44.23\00:34:47.12 into the holy place of the sanctuary. 00:34:47.42\00:34:49.19 Now the question is: what did Jesus go 00:34:49.49\00:34:52.55 into the holy place to do? 00:34:52.75\00:34:54.62 Very important question. 00:34:54.92\00:34:57.73 What did He go there to do? 00:34:58.03\00:34:59.26 What has Jesus been doing during the last 2000+ years? 00:34:59.37\00:35:03.87 Well, go with me to Revelation chapter 4 and verse 5. 00:35:04.11\00:35:08.11 I want us to notice something very interesting here. 00:35:08.61\00:35:10.94 Revelation chapter 4 and verse 5. 00:35:11.04\00:35:13.46 Revelation chapter 4 is actually speaking about the heavenly 00:35:15.21\00:35:18.81 throne room being prepared for the return of Jesus to heaven 00:35:19.01\00:35:24.63 upon His ascension. 00:35:24.83\00:35:26.04 I don't have time to get into all of the details 00:35:26.24\00:35:28.25 but if you read Revelation chapter 4 00:35:28.45\00:35:30.21 you'll find that God the Father is sitting on the throne. 00:35:30.41\00:35:32.93 Around the throne are 24 thrones that represent the... 00:35:33.23\00:35:38.26 actually, the elders. They represent the beings 00:35:38.60\00:35:41.05 or the representatives of the worlds that never sinned. 00:35:41.25\00:35:43.52 And then you have the seraphim that are present there... 00:35:43.72\00:35:46.61 six-winged creatures. And before the throne as we're 00:35:46.81\00:35:49.60 going to read you have the seven Spirits of God 00:35:49.70\00:35:52.80 which is the candlestick... the fire. 00:35:53.10\00:35:55.49 Notice what it says in Revelation chapter 4 00:35:55.69\00:35:57.55 and verse 5. 00:35:57.65\00:35:58.76 So you can see... God is sitting on the throne. 00:36:11.90\00:36:14.43 There are seven lamps of fire burning before the throne. 00:36:14.73\00:36:17.70 And you have the 24 elders... the representatives of the 00:36:17.90\00:36:21.04 worlds that never sinned around the throne. 00:36:21.24\00:36:23.15 And then you have the seraphim in the midst of the throne. 00:36:23.35\00:36:26.22 And then I want you to notice something very interesting 00:36:27.96\00:36:30.30 that happens. In chapter 4 you look in vain for Jesus. 00:36:30.40\00:36:35.74 He's not found in chapter 4. 00:36:36.04\00:36:37.65 You look in vain for the angelic host in chapter 4 00:36:37.95\00:36:41.37 of Revelation. The angelic host are not there. 00:36:41.67\00:36:43.66 The seraphim are there... which as the leaders of the 00:36:43.86\00:36:45.90 angelic host but you don't find the angelic host themselves. 00:36:46.00\00:36:49.38 So you say: "where are they? " 00:36:49.48\00:36:51.00 Well, when you get to chapter 5 00:36:51.20\00:36:53.47 Jesus Christ arrives to the throne room. 00:36:53.67\00:36:56.82 And the Bible says that there are 10,000 times 10,000 00:36:57.12\00:37:01.08 and thousands of thousands. 00:37:01.18\00:37:02.56 The angelic host arrive there with Him. 00:37:02.76\00:37:06.89 Now if you read Desire of Ages, 00:37:07.09\00:37:08.83 the last three pages of Desire of Ages, 00:37:09.03\00:37:11.35 you're going to find that Ellen White comments 00:37:11.45\00:37:13.23 about Revelation 4 and 5. 00:37:13.34\00:37:14.73 She speaks about everything being prepared in the holy place 00:37:15.03\00:37:18.24 of the heavenly sanctuary for the arrival of Christ 00:37:18.35\00:37:20.67 with the angels that had come to pick Him up. 00:37:20.88\00:37:23.36 And when He actually arrives into heaven 00:37:23.66\00:37:26.62 the angels are singing His praises. 00:37:26.82\00:37:28.91 He's coming back from the battleground; 00:37:29.11\00:37:30.56 He's gained the victory. And Jesus raises His hands 00:37:30.77\00:37:34.92 and He says: "Silence. Don't sing. " 00:37:36.36\00:37:41.29 And He goes into the presence of His Father. 00:37:41.49\00:37:44.17 And do you know what He says there to His Father? 00:37:44.47\00:37:47.52 He says: "Father, I need to know if My sacrifice 00:37:47.82\00:37:52.79 was sufficient to save My people and bring them home. " 00:37:53.00\00:37:57.38 What is He pleading for? He's pleading for 00:37:58.87\00:38:01.93 clarity as to whether His Father has accepted what? 00:38:02.13\00:38:06.55 His sacrifice. 00:38:06.56\00:38:09.31 And Ellen White describes it. She says: "The Father says 00:38:09.62\00:38:12.37 it is more than sufficient. " 00:38:12.57\00:38:14.27 And then the Father commands all of the angelic host. 00:38:15.51\00:38:18.09 He said: "Let all the angels of God worship Him. " 00:38:18.19\00:38:20.93 Amen! And heaven explodes in a scene of praise. 00:38:21.13\00:38:25.45 And then do you know what happens? 00:38:25.68\00:38:27.24 The Holy Spirit is poured out 00:38:27.44\00:38:30.72 as a signal that His sacrifice 00:38:30.75\00:38:33.76 has been accepted by His Father in heaven. Amen! 00:38:33.78\00:38:36.68 Let me prove it to you. 00:38:36.88\00:38:37.96 Revelation chapter 4 and verse 5 once again. 00:38:38.16\00:38:40.19 It speaks about the seven lamps of fire burning before the 00:38:40.29\00:38:43.26 throne. See, there in heaven at that point 00:38:43.36\00:38:44.70 before Jesus arrives and when Jesus arrives. 00:38:44.80\00:38:48.13 Then in Revelation 5 verse 6 you have a change. 00:38:48.36\00:38:51.73 Notice what it says there in Revelation 5 verse 6. 00:38:52.03\00:38:55.59 So has Jesus been slain at this point? 00:39:07.58\00:39:09.67 Yes. Is He alive there? Absolutely! 00:39:09.97\00:39:13.03 So the seven Spirits are there in chapter 4 00:39:28.46\00:39:31.12 but in chapter 5 what happens to the seven Spirits? 00:39:31.33\00:39:33.83 They are sent to the what? To the earth. 00:39:34.03\00:39:36.70 Now there are not seven Holy Spirits. 00:39:37.00\00:39:38.87 We are aware of that. The number seven represents what? 00:39:38.97\00:39:41.51 It represents fullness or totality or completeness. 00:39:41.75\00:39:45.23 The fullness of the Spirit is poured out on the 00:39:45.43\00:39:48.41 Day of Pentecost. 00:39:48.51\00:39:49.77 So in chapter 4 we have the throne room prepared 00:39:50.07\00:39:53.16 for Jesus to arrive. In chapter 5 He arrives 00:39:53.36\00:39:55.87 as the Lamb. He's been sacrificed. 00:39:56.07\00:39:58.00 And then as a result of the acceptance of His sacrifice 00:39:58.21\00:40:01.94 we are told in Revelation chapter 5 and verse 6 00:40:02.14\00:40:05.76 that the seven Spirits which represents the totality of the 00:40:05.96\00:40:09.99 Holy Spirit is poured out upon the disciples 00:40:10.09\00:40:14.24 who are in the upper room. 00:40:14.44\00:40:16.22 Now allow me to read you an interesting statement 00:40:16.52\00:40:19.06 from the pen of Ellen White. 00:40:19.26\00:40:20.42 This is Story of Redemption page 386 00:40:20.63\00:40:24.63 where Ellen White describes the relationship between the 00:40:24.84\00:40:27.59 sacrifice of Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:40:27.69\00:40:30.87 This is what she says: 00:40:31.17\00:40:32.98 See the connection? The great sacrifice has been what? 00:40:48.38\00:40:52.20 Offered and had been accepted. 00:40:52.40\00:40:55.12 Now listen carefully: 00:40:55.22\00:40:56.43 So what did Jesus go to heaven to do? 00:41:16.93\00:41:19.49 He went to shed upon His disciples the what? 00:41:19.89\00:41:23.39 The benefits of His atonement. 00:41:23.79\00:41:25.94 Now you say: "What are the benefits of His atonement? " 00:41:26.14\00:41:28.13 It's very simple. 00:41:28.53\00:41:30.46 The benefits of the atonement of Christ are His perfect life 00:41:30.76\00:41:34.44 and His perfect death. 00:41:34.65\00:41:36.43 Those are the benefits. 00:41:36.73\00:41:38.00 He lived for all and He died for all. 00:41:38.30\00:41:41.43 Does that mean that everyone's going to be saved? 00:41:41.63\00:41:43.60 Absolutely not. 00:41:43.91\00:41:45.64 What needs to happen in order for a person to be saved? 00:41:45.95\00:41:48.65 You have to claim His life and you have to claim His death 00:41:48.85\00:41:53.21 as your own. 00:41:53.41\00:41:54.70 He gained the benefits while He was on earth. 00:41:56.16\00:41:58.41 He now had a perfect robe of righteousness. 00:41:58.61\00:42:01.47 He had a perfect life that He can offer every individual 00:42:01.67\00:42:04.88 in place of your sinful life. 00:42:05.08\00:42:06.54 And He had a payment of debt for sin that if you accepted Him 00:42:06.74\00:42:10.80 your debt of sin would be cancelled 00:42:11.00\00:42:13.70 and you would be accepted in the Beloved. 00:42:14.00\00:42:15.96 Those are the benefits of His atonement. 00:42:16.16\00:42:19.16 In other words, Jesus went to heaven to apply to individuals 00:42:19.46\00:42:23.00 who were repentant and confessed their sins on earth 00:42:23.20\00:42:26.06 the benefits of what He had done. 00:42:26.26\00:42:28.28 Are you understanding me? 00:42:28.48\00:42:30.30 That's the reason why Peter, on the Day of Pentecost, 00:42:31.64\00:42:34.73 after he preached his sermon a multitude of men come to him 00:42:34.93\00:42:37.71 and they say: "What is it that we need to do 00:42:37.91\00:42:39.86 in the light of the fact that Jesus is now sitting 00:42:40.06\00:42:42.64 at the right hand of God and He's interceding for us... 00:42:42.84\00:42:44.91 What do we need to do? " 00:42:45.11\00:42:46.53 And Peter says: "Repent! 00:42:46.73\00:42:48.75 And let each one of you be baptized 00:42:48.95\00:42:52.94 for the remission of sins" - 00:42:53.14\00:42:54.93 that is, for the forgiveness of sins - 00:42:55.13\00:42:56.89 "and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. " 00:42:57.10\00:42:59.37 And you read the book of Acts and you find 00:42:59.67\00:43:03.28 that all throughout the book of Acts the disciples 00:43:03.48\00:43:06.19 are preaching to people: 00:43:06.29\00:43:07.35 "The sanctuary is now open for business. 00:43:07.55\00:43:10.29 There is a perfect life at your disposal. 00:43:10.70\00:43:14.47 There's a perfect, satisfying death on the cross 00:43:14.67\00:43:18.76 for your sins. All you have to do is come 00:43:18.97\00:43:21.94 and, through repentance and confession, claim it 00:43:22.15\00:43:25.23 as your own and it will be placed to your account. " 00:43:25.33\00:43:28.04 Amen. 00:43:28.34\00:43:29.73 That's what Jesus went to do in heaven 00:43:29.93\00:43:32.06 and that's what He's been doing during the last 2000+ years. 00:43:32.26\00:43:35.75 Are you understanding what I'm saying? Yes! 00:43:35.85\00:43:37.93 Now, what was the mission of the disciples? 00:43:38.91\00:43:42.49 The mission of the disciples was simply to go out and preach 00:43:42.99\00:43:46.95 to people that the sanctuary was open for business. 00:43:47.15\00:43:49.65 In other words, they were to go out and preach and say: "Hey, 00:43:53.37\00:43:55.60 Jesus lived a perfect life 00:43:55.80\00:43:57.50 and He died for sin. 00:43:58.98\00:44:01.09 And you can claim that as your own. Repent. 00:44:01.39\00:44:04.52 Be converted. Confess your sins, 00:44:04.72\00:44:07.21 and He will take His life and His death 00:44:07.41\00:44:09.99 and He will place it to your account 00:44:10.19\00:44:11.68 and you'll be accepted into the Beloved. 00:44:11.88\00:44:13.53 He'll look upon you as if you had never sinned. " 00:44:13.73\00:44:15.74 That was the preaching of the disciples. 00:44:16.04\00:44:18.21 They were supposed to go out and preach that the sanctuary 00:44:18.41\00:44:21.76 was now open for individuals to come and claim the benefits 00:44:21.86\00:44:25.38 of Christ's atonement. 00:44:25.58\00:44:27.09 Now let's go to the book of Acts chapter 1 verses 7 and 8. 00:44:29.48\00:44:34.08 Acts chapter 1 verses 7 and 8. 00:44:34.38\00:44:36.60 And I want you to notice that there are two times 00:44:36.81\00:44:40.58 in this passage where you have the expression 00:44:40.78\00:44:43.46 "you shall. " 00:44:43.66\00:44:44.78 Two times... "you shall. " 00:44:45.75\00:44:47.39 It has a lot to do with the rock episodes that we studied. 00:44:47.69\00:44:51.38 Acts chapter 1 and verses 7 and 8. 00:44:51.69\00:44:55.64 So the first "you shall" has to do with what? 00:45:11.14\00:45:13.55 With receiving, OK? 00:45:13.75\00:45:17.60 And then notice the second "you shall. " 00:45:25.19\00:45:27.77 Do you see the pattern here? 00:45:40.54\00:45:41.99 First of all, you what? You receive power. 00:45:42.30\00:45:46.89 And then what do you do with that power? 00:45:47.19\00:45:49.90 You shall witness. 00:45:50.21\00:45:52.08 You drink the water and then what? 00:45:52.39\00:45:54.74 The water flows through you to others. 00:45:54.94\00:45:57.85 You know, there's this idea in the Christian world 00:45:58.06\00:45:59.98 that the reason why God gives His Holy Spirit is 00:46:00.18\00:46:02.32 for self-edification. 00:46:02.42\00:46:04.32 God does not give His Holy Spirit for self-edification. 00:46:04.62\00:46:08.32 He gives His Holy Spirit to empower people 00:46:08.62\00:46:12.01 who have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord 00:46:12.21\00:46:16.07 and have been saved to go and tell others 00:46:16.17\00:46:18.71 how to be saved. 00:46:18.92\00:46:20.18 "You shall receive power" 00:46:20.48\00:46:23.22 and "you shall be witnesses to Me. " 00:46:23.52\00:46:26.45 Now let's go to the gospel of John chapter 4 00:46:26.75\00:46:32.48 and notice something very interesting there 00:46:32.78\00:46:34.90 in John chapter 4 and verses 13 and 14. 00:46:35.00\00:46:39.00 This is the story of the Samaritan woman. 00:46:39.10\00:46:41.37 She comes to the well at noon to draw water 00:46:42.67\00:46:46.88 which was a very unusual time to draw water 00:46:47.08\00:46:49.36 because it was very, very hot. 00:46:49.56\00:46:51.39 And yet she comes at that time because she doesn't want 00:46:51.59\00:46:54.07 to meet anyone. 00:46:54.27\00:46:55.71 And there, of course, is Jesus. 00:46:56.01\00:46:58.43 And Jesus says to her: "Give Me water to drink. " 00:46:58.73\00:47:02.46 She immediately looks at Him and says: "How is it that You 00:47:02.96\00:47:06.78 a Jew would ask a Samaritan for water? " 00:47:06.99\00:47:11.65 Because Jews and Samaritans don't speak to one another. 00:47:11.95\00:47:15.08 And then Jesus says: "You know what? 00:47:15.38\00:47:17.67 If you knew who was speaking to you, 00:47:17.87\00:47:20.77 you would ask Me for water where you would never thirst again. 00:47:20.97\00:47:24.08 You drink this water you'll thirst again, 00:47:24.28\00:47:25.66 but you would ask me for water 00:47:25.76\00:47:26.90 where you would never thirst again. " 00:47:27.00\00:47:28.39 And she said: "Well I definitely want that water. " 00:47:28.60\00:47:31.61 And so Jesus opens before her eyes the spiritual truths 00:47:33.31\00:47:38.48 undoubtedly about the rock and the water. 00:47:38.58\00:47:41.15 And this woman embraces salvation in her heart! 00:47:41.35\00:47:45.33 I want you to notice the words of Jesus in John 4 verses 13-14. 00:47:47.25\00:47:51.68 Very, very important. 00:47:51.88\00:47:53.07 Now listen carefully: 00:48:10.19\00:48:11.56 Amen! So you drink and what happens? 00:48:22.77\00:48:26.10 And the water becomes in you a spring of water 00:48:26.60\00:48:32.56 breaking forth into everlasting life. 00:48:32.76\00:48:35.45 Now it's interesting to notice that this woman actually 00:48:35.85\00:48:39.23 lived what Jesus taught her because after the conversation 00:48:39.34\00:48:42.60 finished she went back to Sychar, the town of Sychar. 00:48:42.80\00:48:46.19 And meanwhile the disciples came back. 00:48:46.39\00:48:48.21 Jesus had sent them to get some food. 00:48:48.41\00:48:50.47 And when they brought the food Jesus says: "My food 00:48:50.68\00:48:54.08 and My drink is to do the will of My Father and to accomplish 00:48:54.18\00:48:57.27 the work that He sent Me to do. " 00:48:57.48\00:48:58.61 And the disciples, you know, they were usually not very much 00:48:58.81\00:49:01.46 in tune spiritually. They say "Well, maybe somebody 00:49:01.56\00:49:03.60 brought Him something to eat while we were gone. " 00:49:03.70\00:49:05.27 They thought He was speaking about physical food. 00:49:05.57\00:49:08.18 And then Jesus pointed out into the distance 00:49:09.44\00:49:11.75 and He says: "You know, haven't you heard that there's 00:49:12.15\00:49:15.24 still four months until the harvest? " 00:49:15.44\00:49:17.06 Said "No. " He says: "Look at the fields. 00:49:17.36\00:49:22.23 They're already white, ready for the harvest. " 00:49:22.43\00:49:26.50 You know, if you read Desire of Ages 00:49:28.01\00:49:29.74 you'll find that Ellen White tells us that Jesus was not 00:49:30.04\00:49:34.35 pointing at fields of wheat or fields of barley. 00:49:34.45\00:49:38.23 Jesus was pointing at the entire town of Sychar 00:49:38.53\00:49:42.28 that was coming with this woman to hear the words 00:49:42.58\00:49:46.55 that Jesus had spoken to her. 00:49:46.75\00:49:48.54 This woman had drunk from the water 00:49:48.64\00:49:51.69 and now she had gone back to Sychar and she had witnessed. 00:49:51.89\00:49:55.03 And now all of the people from town were coming 00:49:55.23\00:49:58.16 to listen to the words of Jesus. 00:49:58.36\00:49:59.71 She drank the water and then she became what? 00:50:00.01\00:50:04.01 She became a fountain of water. 00:50:04.31\00:50:07.29 So what is the sequence in these rock episodes? 00:50:07.59\00:50:10.95 Jesus Christ came to this earth to live the life that all of us 00:50:11.46\00:50:15.31 should live. Then at the end of His life 00:50:15.41\00:50:19.33 He was smitten by the rod of God's judgment. 00:50:19.53\00:50:24.58 He suffered for the sins of the whole world. 00:50:24.88\00:50:27.71 And then Jesus resurrected. There you have the laver. 00:50:28.02\00:50:31.91 He enters into the holy place of the sanctuary 00:50:32.21\00:50:34.80 and He says: "Father, is My sacrifice sufficient 00:50:35.00\00:50:38.39 to bring My people home? " 00:50:38.59\00:50:40.91 And the Father says: "Yes! It is sufficient. " 00:50:41.21\00:50:44.73 And then there's this outbreak of praise in heaven. 00:50:46.41\00:50:49.69 And the Holy Spirit is poured out upon the earth 00:50:49.99\00:50:52.82 and you have tongues of fire on the Day of Pentecost. 00:50:53.02\00:50:55.84 Sacrifice/fire. 00:50:56.14\00:50:58.09 Striking the Rock/water. 00:50:58.29\00:50:59.97 Are you following me? 00:51:00.17\00:51:01.34 And what is the Holy Spirit poured out for 00:51:01.64\00:51:03.79 on the Day of Pentecost? 00:51:03.89\00:51:04.99 Had the disciples repented of their sins? 00:51:05.19\00:51:08.29 Had they confessed their sins? 00:51:08.39\00:51:09.88 Had they made everything right before the Day of Pentecost? 00:51:09.98\00:51:12.71 Absolutely! 00:51:12.91\00:51:14.01 And therefore the Holy Spirit is poured out on the 00:51:14.21\00:51:16.23 Day of Pentecost so that they would now do what? 00:51:16.33\00:51:18.75 They received power so that they could go out and witness. 00:51:19.06\00:51:23.03 What was their message? 00:51:23.23\00:51:24.71 Their message was: "Hey, Jesus lived a perfect life. 00:51:24.91\00:51:28.61 Jesus died for sin. 00:51:28.81\00:51:30.36 These are available now! 00:51:30.56\00:51:33.09 The sanctuary is open for business. 00:51:33.29\00:51:36.66 All you have to do is repent and confess your sins 00:51:36.86\00:51:40.82 and trust in Jesus Christ and you will be saved. " 00:51:41.02\00:51:44.85 What an amazing story. 00:51:46.11\00:51:47.62 Allow me in closing to read you a statement that we find 00:51:48.90\00:51:51.50 in the book Ministry of Healing page 102 00:51:51.70\00:51:54.82 where Ellen White is commenting about the experience 00:51:56.06\00:51:58.66 of the Samaritan woman. 00:51:58.86\00:52:00.35 She says this: 00:52:01.15\00:52:03.16 Listen carefully now: 00:52:10.79\00:52:12.58 Now listen carefully... here's where Adventists come in: 00:52:23.62\00:52:26.94 When the Latter Rain is poured out. 00:52:40.16\00:52:44.13 See, the Latter Rain hasn't been poured out yet 00:52:45.91\00:52:47.69 so you guys have got to wait for a great work in the future. 00:52:47.79\00:52:50.80 That's the way many people think in the Adventist church. 00:52:51.00\00:52:52.87 She continues saying: 00:52:55.42\00:52:57.13 Powerful statement! 00:53:26.69\00:53:28.43 If we don't feel that intense desire to witness, 00:53:28.83\00:53:32.41 it's because perhaps we don't have a connection with Christ. 00:53:34.08\00:53:37.50 Because when we have drunk the water, the water will flow 00:53:37.81\00:53:41.48 through us to others. 00:53:41.68\00:53:42.98 It's automatic. 00:53:43.28\00:53:44.91 When we receive the light, it will be our joy and our 00:53:45.11\00:53:49.09 privilege to shine or to reflect that light to the world. 00:53:49.19\00:53:54.76 That's what Pentecost is all about. 00:53:55.07\00:53:57.31 Now I'd like to end this morning or this afternoon 00:53:58.58\00:54:01.98 depending on what time zone you're in 00:54:02.28\00:54:04.74 by saying that the present truth of the apostles 00:54:08.65\00:54:12.44 in the days of Christ was that the sanctuary was open 00:54:12.64\00:54:16.93 for business. To repent; to confess their sins; 00:54:17.13\00:54:19.85 to trust in Jesus so that His life and death 00:54:20.05\00:54:22.61 could be credited to their account. 00:54:22.81\00:54:24.34 That was present truth. 00:54:25.52\00:54:27.17 But that doesn't mean that that is present truth today. 00:54:28.43\00:54:31.99 Amen. We're going to talk about what present truth is today 00:54:32.29\00:54:36.61 on Sabbath evening. 00:54:38.00\00:54:39.62 You see, you want to know what present truth is? 00:54:39.92\00:54:42.40 It's very simple. 00:54:42.50\00:54:43.58 All you have to do to know what present truth is 00:54:43.78\00:54:46.75 is find out where Jesus is and what He's doing - 00:54:46.96\00:54:50.21 Amen! - 00:54:50.41\00:54:51.69 now... and that's present truth. 00:54:51.99\00:54:55.54 You see, when Jesus went to heaven, He went to the 00:54:56.76\00:54:58.80 holy place. 00:54:58.90\00:55:00.40 The message of the holy place was present truth. 00:55:02.00\00:55:05.67 But where is Jesus today? 00:55:06.77\00:55:08.75 Jesus is in the most holy place of the sanctuary. 00:55:08.95\00:55:13.24 So present truth has to do with the most holy place. 00:55:13.74\00:55:17.42 Now don't misunderstand me. 00:55:17.52\00:55:18.81 The sanctuary is a sequence. 00:55:19.01\00:55:21.31 You have to begin in the camp 00:55:21.61\00:55:23.77 where Jesus lived His perfect life. 00:55:23.97\00:55:25.93 You have to continue in the court where Jesus died for sin. 00:55:26.80\00:55:29.62 You have to continue with His resurrection. 00:55:29.92\00:55:32.62 You have to continue with the fact that you can receive Jesus 00:55:32.92\00:55:36.39 as Savior and He will take His life and His death 00:55:36.59\00:55:38.61 and He'll place them to your account. 00:55:38.81\00:55:40.10 But then God wants us to go a step further 00:55:42.35\00:55:44.75 because the Bible tells us that Christ is cleansing the 00:55:44.85\00:55:48.26 sanctuary today 00:55:48.36\00:55:49.73 from the sins that have gone into the sanctuary, 00:55:50.04\00:55:52.98 sins that have been confessed and that have been forgiven 00:55:53.18\00:55:55.52 that are in the sanctuary. The sanctuary is being cleansed. 00:55:55.72\00:55:58.25 And there needs to be a parallel work taking place on earth 00:55:59.71\00:56:02.78 among God's people. 00:56:02.98\00:56:04.03 While he is cleansing the sanctuary in heaven 00:56:04.23\00:56:06.35 there needs to be a cleansing among God's people of sin 00:56:06.55\00:56:09.81 from the temple of the soul. 00:56:10.01\00:56:11.59 And we're to find that that is present truth. 00:56:12.55\00:56:14.58 You see, the most holy place has a cluster of truths. 00:56:15.55\00:56:18.64 There you have the law. 00:56:18.84\00:56:20.63 There you have the Sabbath. 00:56:20.93\00:56:22.39 There you have the idea of the judgment. 00:56:22.89\00:56:25.05 We'll see that there you have the state of the dead. 00:56:25.35\00:56:28.56 Let me ask you: are end-time issues going to have to do 00:56:29.17\00:56:31.47 with primarily the state of the dead, the law, and the Sabbath? 00:56:31.68\00:56:34.32 Those are most holy place issues, folks, 00:56:34.62\00:56:38.03 and that's where our message should be focused today. 00:56:38.23\00:56:41.98 Not that we ignore bringing people to the feet of Christ 00:56:42.18\00:56:45.74 to invite them to accept the life and death of Christ. 00:56:45.98\00:56:49.01 But we need to lead them a step further 00:56:49.21\00:56:52.11 to the point of victory over sin through the grace 00:56:52.31\00:56:55.12 and the power of Jesus Christ. 00:56:55.32\00:56:57.02 And so the sanctuary presents the plan of salvation 00:56:57.42\00:57:00.51 from beginning to end. 00:57:00.72\00:57:02.07 We know exactly where Jesus has been, 00:57:02.28\00:57:03.98 what He has done, and what our present duty is 00:57:04.18\00:57:07.87 in the light of what Jesus is doing. 00:57:08.07\00:57:10.62 What a marvelous message God has committed 00:57:10.82\00:57:12.82 to the Adventist church. Amen. 00:57:12.85\00:57:15.20 But woe to us if we receive and at the same time 00:57:15.40\00:57:19.71 we refuse to give what God has given us. 00:57:19.92\00:57:23.19 Let us pray. 00:57:23.39\00:57:24.86 Father in Heaven, We thank you for the marvelous 00:57:25.16\00:57:27.77 message that You have given 00:57:27.87\00:57:29.38 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church to share with the world. 00:57:29.58\00:57:32.60
