We've had one beautiful day today. We have... Amen! 00:00:48.20\00:00:52.68 All the people said: "Amen. " All right. 00:00:52.88\00:00:55.33 Wasn't so beautiful outside. I was a day late 00:00:55.43\00:00:59.15 on my rain prediction. Again... Yeah, but it's beautiful now. 00:00:59.35\00:01:02.23 I saw a beautiful golden sunset while ago. 00:01:02.43\00:01:04.49 Oh, I was inside so I missed that. 00:01:04.62\00:01:07.37 But it has been a beautiful day inside 00:01:07.57\00:01:11.30 and we have enjoyed the blessings of God all day long. 00:01:11.60\00:01:16.12 It's just really been a feast... 00:01:16.32\00:01:19.05 a little foretaste of heaven. 00:01:19.26\00:01:21.30 And Elder Bradford just led us to the throne again 00:01:21.60\00:01:24.77 a few moments ago. He did! And when we just went off the air 00:01:24.97\00:01:27.97 if you're watching, Jim and I and John and C.A. were out here 00:01:28.17\00:01:31.14 and we think he was still preaching out back. 00:01:31.24\00:01:32.87 So he might even be preaching... There he is. 00:01:33.07\00:01:36.71 Now he's back here again. He may get up and preach some more. 00:01:36.81\00:01:39.41 That's right, that's right. Praise the Lord. 00:01:39.61\00:01:42.09 He did a great job. Now we have Pastor Mark Finley. 00:01:42.29\00:01:44.16 Yes. And he's assistant to the president of the General 00:01:44.36\00:01:46.91 Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. 00:01:47.11\00:01:48.98 And Mark is a long-time friend and been in 00:01:49.18\00:01:52.62 ministry for many, many years and has held numerous positions 00:01:52.72\00:01:55.80 within the church. And we're just thankful that... 00:01:55.90\00:01:59.12 In fact, we just had meetings with him ourselves. 00:01:59.32\00:02:01.53 Yes. Trying to work together for a big... it's evangelistic 00:02:01.73\00:02:06.63 crusade in New York City this coming year. 00:02:06.83\00:02:08.61 You'll hear a lot about it. 00:02:08.71\00:02:09.79 But we need every hand and every person. 00:02:09.99\00:02:12.35 We need people praying, people giving financially, 00:02:12.55\00:02:14.93 people, you know, actually volunteers. Right. 00:02:15.13\00:02:17.68 It's going to be a huge crusade and hundreds of meetings 00:02:17.89\00:02:20.52 going on throughout New York City. 00:02:20.72\00:02:22.31 And 3ABN is going to be part of many other ministries 00:02:22.51\00:02:26.65 joining hands with the church to make this happen. 00:02:26.85\00:02:29.47 And the end result will be souls for the kingdom. 00:02:29.77\00:02:32.04 We appreciate Mark and what he does and his tremendous 00:02:32.24\00:02:35.66 commitment to the cause of God. Not only the Adventist church 00:02:35.86\00:02:39.04 but the cause of God and what he's done world wide. 00:02:39.25\00:02:41.60 Absolutely. I've known him for many years. 00:02:41.90\00:02:43.67 He's probably the hardest working or one of the hardest... 00:02:43.97\00:02:48.56 most hard working individuals that I have ever known. 00:02:48.76\00:02:52.83 And he really works for the Lord. 00:02:53.13\00:02:57.51 And the Lord has blessed his evangelism all over the world. 00:02:57.81\00:03:01.18 For many years the speaker of It Is Written. 00:03:01.38\00:03:04.25 But at the same time he wasn't just in a studio preaching. 00:03:04.45\00:03:07.49 He was out there holding evangelistic meetings 00:03:07.69\00:03:10.22 in some really difficult places around the world. 00:03:10.42\00:03:13.93 And so God has blessed him. And we're going to ask him 00:03:14.23\00:03:17.50 to come now and he is going to introduce the music that we have 00:03:17.70\00:03:22.78 for this particular program. 00:03:22.98\00:03:24.60 Pastor Mark Finley. Thank you, Jim; thank you, Danny. 00:03:24.80\00:03:27.23 In a little while we're going home. 00:03:27.53\00:03:30.85 It was 31 AD. The disciples believed 00:03:32.48\00:03:36.96 with all their hearts based on the prophecies 00:03:37.16\00:03:40.52 of the Old Testament that Jesus was going to come 00:03:40.62\00:03:44.40 and set up His throne. 00:03:44.60\00:03:46.63 They saw Jesus touch the eyes of the blind and they were 00:03:46.83\00:03:49.56 opened. They saw Jesus touch the ears of the deaf 00:03:49.76\00:03:51.75 and they were unstopped. They believed that Christ 00:03:51.95\00:03:55.23 could lead the disciples and the armies of Israel against Rome. 00:03:55.54\00:04:00.68 And even right up to the crucifixion 00:04:00.88\00:04:02.63 the disciples had no idea that Jesus was not going to 00:04:02.83\00:04:06.07 establish His earthly kingdom. 00:04:06.27\00:04:08.49 In fact, for every prophecy in the Old Testament 00:04:08.69\00:04:11.25 that these disciples studied on the first coming of Christ 00:04:11.45\00:04:14.24 there are eight prophecies on the second coming of Christ. 00:04:14.44\00:04:17.27 So when Jesus was crucified the disciples were bitterly 00:04:17.47\00:04:21.04 disappointed. Out of the disappointment of 31 AD 00:04:21.24\00:04:24.72 they looked to the sanctuary 00:04:24.92\00:04:27.16 and there received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:04:27.46\00:04:30.29 And out of their disappointment, they went out to preach 00:04:30.39\00:04:33.55 the gospel to the world. 00:04:33.76\00:04:35.02 Fast forward 2,000 years almost. 00:04:35.22\00:04:38.28 In the early 1800's, William Miller and others 00:04:38.58\00:04:42.95 began to study the prophecies. 00:04:43.15\00:04:45.98 And like these disciples in Jesus' day, they too 00:04:46.18\00:04:49.23 misunderstood the prophecies. 00:04:49.43\00:04:51.54 Like these disciples in Jesus' day, they thought Christ was 00:04:51.74\00:04:54.93 going to come to earth in 1844. 00:04:55.13\00:04:57.84 He was... They were bitterly disappointed. 00:04:58.14\00:05:00.71 Shortly after that disappoint- ment, William Miller 00:05:02.39\00:05:06.56 wrote a letter to his friend Joshua V. Hines. 00:05:06.86\00:05:11.51 And this is what Miller said. 00:05:11.81\00:05:14.30 He said: "I fixed my mind on another time. 00:05:14.60\00:05:19.53 And here I mean to stand until God gives me more light. 00:05:19.73\00:05:24.46 And that other time is today and today 00:05:25.77\00:05:30.72 and today until He comes. " 00:05:30.92\00:05:33.24 And I can almost hear the old man saying: 00:05:33.44\00:05:36.43 "And I shall see Him for whom my soul yearns. " 00:05:36.83\00:05:41.89 Tonight with you 00:05:42.09\00:05:45.54 I look forward to the coming of Christ 00:05:45.74\00:05:48.07 and my soul yearns for His coming. 00:05:48.37\00:05:51.64 Listen as Reggie comes and sings 00:05:51.94\00:05:54.08 an anthem of William Miller's words: 00:05:54.28\00:05:58.30 I Have Fixed My Mind On Another Time. 00:05:58.50\00:06:02.15 I have fixed my mind 00:06:19.27\00:06:22.22 on another time, 00:06:22.52\00:06:25.99 on another time. 00:06:26.59\00:06:32.55 And here I mean 00:06:33.33\00:06:35.79 to stand until 00:06:36.10\00:06:39.50 God gives me more light. 00:06:39.80\00:06:45.38 And that is today, today, 00:06:46.86\00:06:52.80 today until He comes. 00:06:53.10\00:06:58.82 I have fixed my mind 00:07:00.15\00:07:03.32 on another time, 00:07:03.62\00:07:07.40 on another 00:07:07.70\00:07:11.66 time. 00:07:11.96\00:07:15.68 I have set my course 00:07:17.41\00:07:20.40 on the narrow way, 00:07:20.70\00:07:23.71 on the narrow way. 00:07:24.11\00:07:29.64 For I know the time 00:07:30.04\00:07:33.17 is close at hand 00:07:33.47\00:07:36.40 for which I watch and pray. 00:07:36.70\00:07:42.39 And that is today, 00:07:42.69\00:07:48.23 today, 00:07:48.43\00:07:49.88 today until He comes. 00:07:50.18\00:07:55.62 I have set my course 00:07:57.40\00:07:59.54 on the narrow way, 00:07:59.74\00:08:02.74 on the narrow 00:08:03.04\00:08:07.12 way. 00:08:07.42\00:08:10.46 Even so, Lord, come quickly. 00:08:10.76\00:08:15.91 This is my fervent prayer. 00:08:16.87\00:08:22.86 For I've caught a glimpse 00:08:23.17\00:08:26.55 of glory 00:08:26.75\00:08:29.65 and I'm longing to 00:08:29.85\00:08:33.80 be there. 00:08:34.21\00:08:37.62 When shall the Son of Man 00:08:50.15\00:08:55.02 appear? 00:08:55.22\00:08:56.82 The trumpet sound its blast? 00:08:57.02\00:09:02.46 And Christ descend 00:09:02.76\00:09:06.34 in glorious power 00:09:06.54\00:09:09.58 with all the saints 00:09:09.88\00:09:12.45 amassed? 00:09:12.65\00:09:15.35 We'll rise with those 00:09:15.45\00:09:18.74 who sleep no more 00:09:18.94\00:09:21.91 to meet Him 00:09:22.21\00:09:24.33 in the air! 00:09:24.53\00:09:28.62 When shall the Son 00:09:28.92\00:09:31.80 of Man appear? 00:09:32.30\00:09:38.24 The Son of Man appear? 00:09:39.27\00:09:45.19 Even so, Lord, come quickly. 00:09:46.81\00:09:52.76 This is my fervent prayer. 00:09:53.16\00:09:59.15 For I've caught a glimpse 00:09:59.55\00:10:03.19 of glory 00:10:03.39\00:10:06.45 and I'm longing to 00:10:06.55\00:10:09.93 be there. 00:10:10.13\00:10:12.70 For I've caught a glimpse 00:10:13.00\00:10:16.34 of glory 00:10:16.54\00:10:21.09 and I'm longing 00:10:23.73\00:10:26.94 to 00:10:27.24\00:10:33.24 be there! 00:10:33.74\00:10:38.69 I have set my course 00:10:39.00\00:10:42.15 on a narrow way, 00:10:42.76\00:10:48.74 on another 00:10:50.72\00:10:56.07 time. 00:10:56.57\00:11:02.55 Amen! 00:11:10.84\00:11:13.45 I have set my mind 00:11:16.83\00:11:19.79 on another time. And that is today, 00:11:20.09\00:11:24.13 today, today. Let's pray. 00:11:24.33\00:11:26.65 Father, as we open Your Word tonight may the Spirit 00:11:26.95\00:11:29.50 that inspired the Word come and touch our hearts. 00:11:29.60\00:11:31.90 May the Spirit that spoke to prophets in ages old 00:11:32.20\00:11:36.43 speak to our hearts. 00:11:36.63\00:11:38.17 May the Spirit that speaks to our hearts every day 00:11:38.47\00:11:44.06 drawing us out to sense that this world is not our home 00:11:44.26\00:11:47.97 may that Spirit heavily rest upon us tonight 00:11:48.17\00:11:51.05 and touch us and change us. In Christ's name, Amen. 00:11:51.45\00:11:56.39 It was just at the end of Sabbath School 00:11:56.79\00:12:00.41 and the teacher was letting the children: 7, 8, and 9 years old, 00:12:01.21\00:12:06.73 go back into the main sanctuary. 00:12:06.93\00:12:08.78 And she thought she ought to give them a little caution 00:12:09.08\00:12:12.91 so she said: "Children, when you go back into the sanctuary 00:12:13.21\00:12:19.13 walk very quietly and don't say anything. " 00:12:19.33\00:12:23.65 "Children, do you know why you have to go back 00:12:23.95\00:12:26.68 into the sanctuary so quietly? " 00:12:26.88\00:12:29.13 One little girl seven years old raised her hand and said: 00:12:29.43\00:12:32.32 "Oh yes, teacher. Because so many people are sleeping 00:12:32.52\00:12:35.43 in there. " 00:12:35.63\00:12:37.54 Take your Bible, please, and turn to Revelation 00:12:38.69\00:12:40.77 the third chapter. My topic tonight is 00:12:40.87\00:12:42.69 The Laodicean Message. Amen. 00:12:42.89\00:12:45.21 Revelation chapter 3. 00:12:45.41\00:12:47.44 If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny. 00:12:47.74\00:12:51.51 Revelation the 3rd chapter. 00:12:52.88\00:12:55.37 We are looking at Revelation chapter 3 and we are beginning 00:12:55.57\00:12:58.67 with the 14th verse. 00:12:58.88\00:13:00.82 Revelation chapter 3 and verse 14. 00:13:01.12\00:13:04.46 The Laodicean message is the last in a series 00:13:05.67\00:13:09.78 of messages that God gave to seven churches. 00:13:09.92\00:13:13.75 Now keep in mind that these were seven literal 00:13:14.05\00:13:17.64 geographical locations. 00:13:17.74\00:13:19.88 There was Ephesus and Smyrna and Pergamos and Thyatira 00:13:20.08\00:13:23.37 and Sardis and Philadelphia and Laodicea. 00:13:23.60\00:13:27.04 The book of Revelation describes the spiritual condition 00:13:27.54\00:13:32.21 of seven literal churches that existed 00:13:32.41\00:13:36.13 in John's day. 00:13:36.34\00:13:39.06 The reason why God chose those particular 7 verses 00:13:39.36\00:13:44.82 is because... or those 7 churches rather... 00:13:44.92\00:13:48.57 is because those 7 churches would represent the church 00:13:48.77\00:13:54.35 down through the stream of time 00:13:54.56\00:13:56.52 in 7 specific epics of time. 00:13:56.62\00:14:00.36 So the spiritual condition of Ephesus, 00:14:00.66\00:14:02.76 the spiritual condition of Smyrna 00:14:02.96\00:14:04.69 and Thyatira and Sardis 00:14:04.89\00:14:07.69 and the spiritual condition of Pergamos and Philadelphia 00:14:07.89\00:14:12.41 and Laodicea would all be represented 00:14:12.61\00:14:16.14 in those 7 ages down through the stream of time. 00:14:16.34\00:14:18.50 In Revelation chapter 3 we begin: 00:14:18.81\00:14:21.74 "And to the angel of the church of Laodiceans write... " 00:14:21.94\00:14:25.40 Where was Laodicea? 00:14:25.60\00:14:28.18 What can we learn from the spiritual condition 00:14:28.38\00:14:31.89 of that church in Laodicea 00:14:31.92\00:14:34.47 that would apply to the church today? 00:14:34.67\00:14:37.31 Well the first thing we notice is that Laodicea is 00:14:37.61\00:14:39.77 the last in the series of seven churches 00:14:39.97\00:14:41.85 so it obviously would speak to the last generation 00:14:42.05\00:14:45.00 of Christians living upon the earth. 00:14:45.20\00:14:46.57 And particularly, if Laodicea is a church, 00:14:46.77\00:14:49.86 the message would speak to God's last-day church 00:14:50.07\00:14:52.54 from the context of the passage. 00:14:52.74\00:14:54.22 The second thing that we would notice about it is this: 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.78 the meaning of the word Laodicea. 00:14:56.98\00:14:59.54 I often ask many audiences what does the word Laodicea 00:14:59.75\00:15:02.71 mean, and typically I do not get the right response. 00:15:02.91\00:15:06.37 But I know this is a well-educated audience 00:15:06.57\00:15:08.59 at 3ABN and I know the audience watching on television is 00:15:08.79\00:15:12.50 well-educated. The word Laodicea: 00:15:12.70\00:15:14.60 do you have any idea? What does that mean? 00:15:14.80\00:15:16.02 Oh, I... The condition is lukewarm 00:15:17.32\00:15:23.03 but the word does not mean lukewarm. 00:15:23.20\00:15:25.07 The word means "a people adjudged. " 00:15:25.38\00:15:29.42 A literal translation of the word Laodicea 00:15:29.63\00:15:32.53 is "a people adjudged. " 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.35 So Laodicea is the last church. 00:15:34.55\00:15:37.09 It is the church in the judgment hour just before Jesus comes 00:15:37.29\00:15:41.06 and its condition is lukewarm. 00:15:41.19\00:15:43.73 Where was Laodicea? 00:15:44.03\00:15:45.73 Laodicea was in southwest Turkey. 00:15:46.03\00:15:48.07 I've visited the site on many, many, many occasions. 00:15:48.28\00:15:51.61 When I first began to visit Laodicea 00:15:51.91\00:15:53.78 it was a very pure virgin site. In other words, 00:15:53.89\00:15:56.35 it wasn't excavated yet. 00:15:56.45\00:15:57.90 And it was marvelous. We would tramp up on the site 00:15:58.00\00:16:00.08 and it's quite a large site. Laodicea was a city 00:16:00.28\00:16:03.54 that had a population of about 150,000. 00:16:03.64\00:16:07.20 Do you know how we evaluate the population base 00:16:07.50\00:16:10.91 of the ancient cities? 00:16:11.11\00:16:12.44 If you take the stadium in the city 00:16:12.64\00:16:15.38 and we can excavate... archaeologists have excavated 00:16:15.59\00:16:18.16 the stadium... If you take the stadium 00:16:18.36\00:16:20.01 and you take the number of people that could be seated 00:16:20.21\00:16:24.80 in the stadium and multiply it by ten 00:16:25.00\00:16:27.80 that's approximately the population size of the city. 00:16:28.00\00:16:30.85 So that stadium in Laodicea 00:16:31.05\00:16:33.62 might seat 10,000... 12,000. You might be able to cram in 00:16:33.82\00:16:37.19 more, but we estimate the population between 120,000 00:16:37.39\00:16:40.42 and 150,000 roughly in Laodicea. 00:16:40.62\00:16:43.73 So this was no backwater city, it was no backwater town. 00:16:43.94\00:16:46.93 In fact, Laodicea was a banking capitol. 00:16:47.23\00:16:50.61 It was extremely wealthy. 00:16:50.64\00:16:52.06 Gold coins were distributed from Laodicea. 00:16:52.26\00:16:55.17 It was a city that was wealth... had a lot of wealth. 00:16:55.48\00:16:58.76 Laodicea was destroyed by an earthquake 00:16:59.06\00:17:02.24 in 61 AD... AD 61. 00:17:02.44\00:17:05.01 When Laodicea was destroyed 00:17:05.31\00:17:07.37 the Roman government - because Laodicea was a very... 00:17:07.67\00:17:11.84 city that was loyal to Rome - 00:17:12.04\00:17:13.75 the Roman government said "We will help you rebuild 00:17:13.95\00:17:17.17 your city. " And the Laodiceans said: 00:17:17.28\00:17:20.13 "Forget it. We've got enough money to rebuild the city 00:17:20.33\00:17:23.76 ourselves. " Tacitus, the very famed Roman historian, 00:17:23.86\00:17:27.69 writes about Laodicea, and this what he says: 00:17:27.89\00:17:29.96 "Laodicea arose from its ruins by the strength of her own 00:17:30.16\00:17:34.24 resources and with no help from us. " 00:17:34.34\00:17:37.48 See, that's Laodicea. 00:17:37.78\00:17:39.30 It's wealthy; it's proud; it's affluent. 00:17:39.50\00:17:42.99 "We don't need anybody to help us. " 00:17:43.19\00:17:45.22 Second thing about Laodicea. 00:17:45.52\00:17:46.75 Laodicea had a special type of wool found only there 00:17:47.05\00:17:52.36 in the world really. 00:17:52.57\00:17:54.00 It was a very unique kind of wool. 00:17:54.20\00:17:55.75 They bred a black sheep 00:17:56.05\00:17:59.49 and they had hundreds, thousands of these black sheep. 00:17:59.69\00:18:02.48 And if you shear them, the wool was very glossy. 00:18:02.68\00:18:06.67 And the women were really attracted to these black 00:18:06.87\00:18:10.03 garments. They produced at least 4 kinds of these black garments 00:18:10.13\00:18:13.24 and they shipped them all over the world, they exported them. 00:18:13.34\00:18:15.03 So Laodicea was this fashion center. 00:18:15.23\00:18:18.72 If you wanted to buy the latest in fashion, 00:18:18.92\00:18:21.47 particularly these very finely- woven beautiful black garments, 00:18:21.67\00:18:26.31 you'd go to Laodicea. 00:18:26.51\00:18:27.68 The third thing about Laodicea 00:18:27.88\00:18:29.50 is that Laodicea had a medical center. 00:18:29.71\00:18:32.38 It was an educational medical center. 00:18:32.68\00:18:34.09 They developed the very famous Phrygian eye salve. 00:18:34.19\00:18:37.06 And the salve came either in a powder form 00:18:37.20\00:18:39.79 that you mixed liquid with or it came in a tablet form. 00:18:39.99\00:18:42.95 And it was exported all over the world. 00:18:43.05\00:18:44.44 Somebody has said: "Laodicea was like the Bank of America, 00:18:44.64\00:18:49.31 Macy's, and... " one other one... 00:18:49.51\00:18:54.20 "Bank of America, Macy's, and the Mayo Clinic 00:18:54.41\00:18:58.54 all rolled in one. " That was it! 00:18:58.84\00:19:00.14 Bank of America, Macy's, Mayo Clinic. 00:19:00.44\00:19:02.60 I mean, Laodicea was just this fantastic city. 00:19:02.80\00:19:06.03 It was a city of pride and affluence. 00:19:06.23\00:19:08.86 A city that was self-sufficient. 00:19:09.06\00:19:11.50 A city that believed that it needed 00:19:11.70\00:19:13.25 nothing else from nobody else. 00:19:13.28\00:19:15.76 God chose that city. 00:19:16.06\00:19:17.98 Now what was the church like in Laodicea? 00:19:18.28\00:19:21.75 Do we have any description in the New Testament 00:19:21.95\00:19:24.73 at all that helps us know the spiritual condition 00:19:24.93\00:19:28.03 of the local congregation in this secular, godless, 00:19:28.23\00:19:32.55 materialistic, educated culture? 00:19:32.76\00:19:35.31 Do we have any at all? We do! 00:19:35.51\00:19:36.64 If you take your Bible, please, and turn to the book of 00:19:36.84\00:19:38.81 Colossians. Now Colossae wasn't too far 00:19:38.91\00:19:42.52 from Laodicea. 00:19:42.72\00:19:44.55 And Paul actually wrote a letter to Colossae. 00:19:44.75\00:19:48.11 And according to the book of Colossians 00:19:48.31\00:19:50.29 he also wrote a letter to the Laodiceans 00:19:50.40\00:19:52.39 which eventually was lost. 00:19:52.49\00:19:54.08 But we get a hint of the spiritual condition 00:19:54.38\00:19:57.72 of the church at both Colossae and Laodicea 00:19:57.92\00:20:01.13 from Paul's writing. He writes to Colossae and he says to the 00:20:01.33\00:20:04.44 church at Colossae - chapter 2- 00:20:04.54\00:20:06.34 "Send my letter that I have written to the Colossians... 00:20:06.54\00:20:10.37 send that also to the church at Laodicea. " 00:20:10.57\00:20:14.43 So let them read it. In Colossians 2 verse 1 00:20:14.63\00:20:17.86 Paul talks about the trouble in his soul. 00:20:18.06\00:20:21.59 Paul talks about his spiritual anxiety. 00:20:21.79\00:20:25.02 Paul talks about the fact that he is a spiritual father 00:20:25.22\00:20:28.38 and he's really worried about the church at Laodicea. 00:20:28.58\00:20:31.19 Colossians 2 verse 1: 00:20:31.59\00:20:33.55 "For I want you to know what a great conflict I have 00:20:33.85\00:20:37.23 for you and those in Laodicea. 00:20:37.43\00:20:39.80 For as many as have not seen my face in the flesh 00:20:40.00\00:20:43.35 and their hearts may be encouraged being knit together 00:20:43.55\00:20:46.01 in love and attaining to all the riches of the full assurance 00:20:46.12\00:20:49.27 of the understanding of the knowledge and the mystery of God 00:20:49.47\00:20:51.83 both of the Father and of Christ 00:20:52.03\00:20:54.26 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and 00:20:54.46\00:20:56.91 knowledge. " Now don't miss the last part 00:20:57.12\00:20:58.95 of verse 1 chapter 2. He says: 00:20:59.15\00:21:01.13 "I have a conflict with you. I am troubled in my soul 00:21:01.27\00:21:03.57 for you and for those in Laodicea. " 00:21:03.77\00:21:06.20 In other words, he looked at the church at Laodicea 00:21:06.40\00:21:10.60 and he had gotten reports about that church. 00:21:10.80\00:21:12.75 And he got reports that the church at Laodicea was 00:21:12.95\00:21:15.47 rich, it was cultured, it had a form of godliness. 00:21:15.68\00:21:18.59 It was apathetic; it was sentimental spirituality. 00:21:18.79\00:21:22.92 They had not denied the gospel; they had not denied Christ. 00:21:23.12\00:21:26.21 But this church at Laodicea had the form of godliness. 00:21:26.41\00:21:30.75 They honored God with their lips 00:21:30.96\00:21:32.71 but their hearts were far from Him. 00:21:32.92\00:21:34.83 That was the literal church at Laodicea. 00:21:35.03\00:21:38.46 And so Jesus addresses that church. 00:21:38.66\00:21:42.63 Revelation chapter 3. What an apt description 00:21:42.93\00:21:47.22 of the church living at the judgment hour. 00:21:48.73\00:21:51.02 A church that is proud of her accomplishments. 00:21:51.32\00:21:54.05 Many of them it should be. 00:21:54.35\00:21:56.49 A church that is proud of its institutions. 00:21:56.69\00:21:59.66 A church that is proud of its world-wide membership. 00:21:59.96\00:22:03.34 A people that are proud of their doctrines that they're 00:22:03.54\00:22:06.95 doctrinally right. 00:22:07.05\00:22:09.07 But Jesus addresses a special letter to them: 00:22:09.37\00:22:13.28 the letter to the Laodiceans. 00:22:13.48\00:22:16.32 Let's read it. Revelation 3: 00:22:16.62\00:22:19.18 "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write: 00:22:19.21\00:22:22.73 these things says the AMEN, the faithful and true witness, 00:22:23.03\00:22:28.93 the beginning of the creation of God. " 00:22:29.12\00:22:31.27 It is so easy to skip over verses that are so fraught 00:22:31.47\00:22:36.73 with meaning. It is so easy 00:22:36.93\00:22:40.80 to skip over verses that speak to our hearts. 00:22:41.00\00:22:43.76 Now let's look at these four descriptions of Jesus. 00:22:44.06\00:22:49.05 He is the AMEN. 00:22:49.29\00:22:50.65 When do you place Amen in a prayer? 00:22:50.95\00:22:54.49 At the end of the prayer. 00:22:54.89\00:22:56.51 So the church at the judgment hour 00:22:56.81\00:22:59.55 is being addressed by the AMEN at the end of human history. 00:22:59.75\00:23:03.60 This is the last church, because after Laodicea there is an AMEN. 00:23:03.90\00:23:09.63 There is no such thing as the remnant of the remnant. 00:23:09.93\00:23:13.63 Does somebody hear me tonight? 00:23:13.93\00:23:16.70 There is no calling out of Laodicea 00:23:16.91\00:23:20.50 for another remnant to arise. 00:23:20.70\00:23:23.45 There is the message to Laodicea 00:23:23.65\00:23:26.46 that brings revival in Laodicea! 00:23:26.66\00:23:29.20 Amen. 00:23:29.50\00:23:30.63 "He that has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the 00:23:30.94\00:23:33.43 churches. " If God says "Amen" after Laodicea, 00:23:33.53\00:23:37.45 it's "Amen" at the end of human history 00:23:39.00\00:23:42.94 and God will have a church. 00:23:43.24\00:23:44.63 The AMEN: the faithful and true witness. 00:23:44.83\00:23:46.98 His witness is faithful and it's true. 00:23:47.28\00:23:50.04 We may want to avoid it. 00:23:50.24\00:23:52.32 We may not want to accept it. 00:23:52.53\00:23:55.32 It may make us uncomfortable and squirm in the pew... 00:23:55.53\00:23:59.95 but it's still true. 00:24:00.15\00:24:02.14 "Pastor Finley, I'm so glad you're preaching the 00:24:02.44\00:24:05.51 Laodicean message. Those brethren need it! " 00:24:05.71\00:24:09.16 "I'm so glad. I can't wait to get this tape to show it 00:24:11.73\00:24:15.04 to my local church because they're not 3ABN fans 00:24:15.24\00:24:18.34 and they really need this one. " 00:24:18.44\00:24:20.16 That attitude defines what a Laodicean is all about. 00:24:21.66\00:24:25.92 Laodicea applies the Laodicean message 00:24:27.50\00:24:31.31 to somebody else. That everybody needs it except me. 00:24:31.51\00:24:35.20 The scriptures says - Revelation chapter 3- 00:24:36.66\00:24:40.39 "These things says the AMEN" - at the end of history - 00:24:40.69\00:24:43.35 "the faithful and true witness. " 00:24:43.45\00:24:44.48 Jesus is witnessing to my heart tonight. 00:24:44.79\00:24:48.08 Jesus is witnessing to your heart tonight. 00:24:48.11\00:24:50.82 His witness is faithful about me. 00:24:51.12\00:24:54.13 His witness is faithful about you. 00:24:54.33\00:24:56.48 He is the faithful and true witness. Now notice: 00:24:56.78\00:24:59.79 He's "the beginning of the creation of God. " 00:24:59.99\00:25:02.93 Now that strange expression: He's the "beginning of the 00:25:04.39\00:25:08.37 creation of God. " What does that mean? 00:25:08.57\00:25:09.85 That God created Jesus first? Not at all. 00:25:10.06\00:25:12.03 In the Greek language there are... the word for beginning 00:25:12.23\00:25:16.20 here is the Greek word arche 00:25:16.30\00:25:17.98 and it means beginner or first cause. 00:25:18.18\00:25:20.55 That Jesus started all creation. 00:25:20.85\00:25:23.42 Keep your finger in Revelation chapter 3. Go back to 00:25:23.62\00:25:25.62 Ephesians 3 verse 9. 00:25:25.72\00:25:27.29 Ephesians 3 verse 9. 00:25:27.59\00:25:29.71 Who is the One that addresses the church at Laodicea? 00:25:30.82\00:25:34.77 Ephesians 3 verse 9. 00:25:35.07\00:25:37.29 "And to make all people see what is the fellowship 00:25:38.71\00:25:41.77 of the mystery which from the beginning of the ages 00:25:41.97\00:25:44.41 has been hidden in God who created all things 00:25:44.61\00:25:47.40 through Jesus Christ. " 00:25:47.61\00:25:48.96 Jesus is the beginning of the creation of God 00:25:49.26\00:25:52.25 in the sense that He is the beginner of the creation of God. 00:25:52.45\00:25:55.70 He is the One that brought forth all creation. 00:25:56.11\00:25:59.22 He spoke and it was done. 00:25:59.53\00:26:01.14 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God 00:26:01.34\00:26:03.67 and the Word was God. And all things are created 00:26:03.87\00:26:06.42 by Him and in Him, and by Him all things are created 00:26:06.62\00:26:09.27 and exist. " So it is the Almighty Creator 00:26:09.37\00:26:12.65 that brought light out of darkness 00:26:12.85\00:26:15.64 that speaks to Laodicea. 00:26:15.84\00:26:17.62 It is the Almighty Creator that hung every star in space 00:26:17.82\00:26:21.60 and caused the planets to revolve around the sun. 00:26:21.80\00:26:25.12 It's the Almighty Creator that said to the tides 00:26:25.22\00:26:27.59 "you come hither and go no further. " 00:26:27.79\00:26:29.81 And it's the Almighty Creator 00:26:30.01\00:26:32.13 that brought life on this earth that speaks to Laodicea 00:26:32.33\00:26:35.75 and says: "I can re-create your hearts. " 00:26:35.95\00:26:38.48 "I can bring light out of the darkness of your mind. " 00:26:38.68\00:26:41.15 "I can turn the form of godliness so that you'll have 00:26:41.35\00:26:44.21 a new beating spiritual heart. " 00:26:44.31\00:26:46.43 It is the Creator that speaks to Laodicea. 00:26:46.63\00:26:49.53 So the Laodicean message is full of encouragement. 00:26:49.73\00:26:52.54 It's full of hope because Jesus, the Creator, says: 00:26:52.74\00:26:55.93 "I can re-create my image in My people. " 00:26:56.13\00:26:59.80 Now listen here. The Faith I Live By page 306: 00:27:00.10\00:27:02.78 "The counsel of the True Witness... " the prophet to the 00:27:02.98\00:27:07.37 remnant says this: "The counsel of the True Witness... " 00:27:07.47\00:27:09.75 What is that? The counsel of the True Witness? 00:27:09.95\00:27:11.55 What's that? The Laodicean message. 00:27:11.75\00:27:13.47 "is full of encouragement and comfort. 00:27:13.67\00:27:17.19 The churches may yet obtain the gold of true faith 00:27:17.49\00:27:21.28 and love and be rich in the blessings 00:27:21.48\00:27:24.81 in the heavenly treasure. " 00:27:24.91\00:27:27.14 The message to the Laodiceans is full of courage and comfort. 00:27:28.14\00:27:33.77 If you think tonight that the Laodicean message is one that 00:27:33.98\00:27:37.10 God has given to whip His people and beat them 00:27:37.30\00:27:40.24 till they feel so discouraged, you've missed the whole point. 00:27:40.44\00:27:43.39 Tonight as we study the Laodicean message 00:27:43.79\00:27:46.32 I want to show you how full of encouragement it is for you. 00:27:46.42\00:27:49.30 There's somebody watching tonight. 00:27:50.30\00:27:52.31 You just happened to tune in. 00:27:52.52\00:27:54.38 You've got a formal religious experience. 00:27:54.58\00:27:57.65 Your prayers don't go any higher than the ceiling. 00:27:58.87\00:28:01.40 You rarely study the Bible. 00:28:01.70\00:28:03.11 God's going to speak to you tonight. 00:28:03.41\00:28:04.84 God's going to touch you tonight. 00:28:05.05\00:28:06.43 Jesus is going to break through. There's somebody here tonight... 00:28:06.73\00:28:09.58 God sent you to this meeting for a purpose. 00:28:09.88\00:28:12.94 You may have come into this meeting tonight knowing 00:28:13.24\00:28:15.97 that there are things in your heart that are not right 00:28:16.17\00:28:18.00 with God. Sure, you're a Sabbath-keeping, tithe-paying, 00:28:18.10\00:28:19.96 health-reforming Adventist 00:28:20.16\00:28:21.31 but you know in your heart that you've lost something. 00:28:21.52\00:28:24.64 That you're missing something. 00:28:24.94\00:28:26.91 That there's a void in your heart. 00:28:27.21\00:28:28.55 That the fire in your soul that once burned was not there. 00:28:28.75\00:28:32.21 You know you have to force yourself to get on your knees 00:28:32.52\00:28:34.71 to pray and then you're on there for about 30 seconds 00:28:34.81\00:28:38.03 and your mind wanders. 00:28:38.24\00:28:39.67 And you have a very superficial prayer life. 00:28:39.75\00:28:42.85 You know that, oh sure, you love to watch speakers on television 00:28:43.15\00:28:47.23 and get your religious teaching second hand. 00:28:47.37\00:28:51.14 But as far as opening the Bible yourself and listening to Jesus 00:28:51.34\00:28:54.38 speak to you and let your heart be warmed, you know 00:28:54.58\00:28:57.31 that those were days past. 00:28:57.51\00:28:59.15 You know that your religious experience with Jesus 00:28:59.45\00:29:01.63 has become quite apathetic and quite superficial. 00:29:01.73\00:29:04.46 That you have a form of godliness. 00:29:04.76\00:29:06.90 You believe the doctrines but you're missing something inside. 00:29:07.10\00:29:09.57 Tonight Jesus is going to speak to you. 00:29:09.77\00:29:11.88 Tonight Jesus is going to touch you. 00:29:12.08\00:29:14.02 Tonight your heart is going to be warmed in some amazing 00:29:14.22\00:29:16.93 new ways as God from the text speaks to your heart. 00:29:17.03\00:29:20.66 Take your Bible, please. 00:29:20.96\00:29:23.12 The True Witness is speaking... 00:29:23.32\00:29:24.96 the One who can re-create our hearts. He says: 00:29:25.16\00:29:26.66 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. 00:29:26.70\00:29:29.71 I wish you were cold or hot. So then because you are 00:29:29.91\00:29:32.89 lukewarm... " Indifferent, apathetic... 00:29:32.99\00:29:36.02 "and neither cold nor hot I will spew you out of My mouth. " 00:29:37.87\00:29:40.81 Notice Jesus says to Laodicea 00:29:41.01\00:29:43.72 "You've taken a bath in lukewarm water. " 00:29:43.92\00:29:45.91 The water in Laodicea was very lukewarm. 00:29:46.11\00:29:48.94 You go visit there today and you look across the valley to 00:29:49.04\00:29:51.86 Hierapolis and you see the hot springs coming up 00:29:51.97\00:29:54.58 out of Hierapolis, and they come across about 6 miles. 00:29:54.78\00:29:57.75 You can still see the ruins of the Roman aqueducts. 00:29:57.95\00:30:00.45 And the water was hot when it came out of the springs 00:30:00.65\00:30:04.02 but by the time it got to Laodicea it was lukewarm 00:30:04.22\00:30:07.66 and it was nauseating. So the church at Laodicea 00:30:07.86\00:30:12.72 had taken a bath in lukewarm water. It was not hot; 00:30:12.92\00:30:16.61 it was not on fire for God. 00:30:16.81\00:30:18.87 But it was not cold; it had not rejected truth. 00:30:19.07\00:30:22.58 So Jesus says: "Because you say: 'I am rich 00:30:23.01\00:30:26.58 and have become wealthy... ' You are doctrinally wealthy. 00:30:27.82\00:30:31.54 You are spiritually wealthy from the sense of doctrine. 00:30:31.85\00:30:35.53 'that you have need of nothing' 00:30:35.73\00:30:38.19 but you don't know that you're wretched, 00:30:38.39\00:30:40.58 you're miserable, you're poor, 00:30:40.68\00:30:42.35 you're blind, and you're naked... ' " 00:30:42.45\00:30:43.95 Laodicea said: "I'm rich. " Jesus said: "You're poor. " 00:30:44.95\00:30:47.18 Laodicea said: "I'm a banking capitol" 00:30:47.38\00:30:49.11 and Jesus said: "You're poor. " 00:30:49.31\00:30:50.80 Laodicea said: "I am clothed with the garments. 00:30:51.00\00:30:55.63 Look at our garments; look at our fashion. " 00:30:55.83\00:30:57.49 Jesus said: "You're naked. " 00:30:57.69\00:30:58.82 Laodicea said: "I can see. We produce this eye salve. " 00:30:59.12\00:31:03.10 Jesus said: "You're blind. " 00:31:03.30\00:31:05.73 And then Jesus makes this offer. 00:31:06.03\00:31:07.65 The heavenly Merchantman comes and knocks on the door 00:31:07.95\00:31:10.63 of Laodicea and knocks on the door of your heart. 00:31:10.73\00:31:13.45 He knocks on the door of my heart tonight. 00:31:13.66\00:31:15.47 What does Jesus offer and what does it mean? 00:31:15.67\00:31:20.24 Jesus says: "I counsel you... " 00:31:20.54\00:31:23.37 The True Witness is speaking. He is speaking to you; 00:31:23.57\00:31:27.23 He's speaking to me. 00:31:27.43\00:31:28.58 If you're here in this 3ABN audience, the True Witness 00:31:28.79\00:31:31.04 is speaking to you. 00:31:31.14\00:31:32.50 The heavenly Merchantman is speaking to you. 00:31:32.70\00:31:35.17 If you're watching by television, 00:31:35.37\00:31:36.82 Jesus is speaking to you. 00:31:37.02\00:31:39.25 "I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire. " 00:31:39.56\00:31:43.69 We stop there. 00:31:43.99\00:31:45.81 What is the gold tried in the fire that Laodicea does not have 00:31:45.84\00:31:50.98 that Christ appeals to us to get? 00:31:51.18\00:31:54.68 What is that? Let's let the Bible tell us. 00:31:54.98\00:31:57.63 First we go to Peter. Take your Bible, please, 00:31:57.83\00:31:59.55 and come to Peter with me. 00:31:59.65\00:32:01.02 The first chapter of Peter. 00:32:01.32\00:32:03.33 I Peter chapter 1 verse 7. 00:32:03.63\00:32:06.16 I Peter chapter 1 verse 7. 00:32:07.03\00:32:08.85 What is the gold tried in the fire? 00:32:08.95\00:32:11.98 The gold that Laodicea needs 00:32:12.18\00:32:14.80 Laodicea needs more than a form of godliness. 00:32:15.00\00:32:17.49 Laodicea needs more than to honor Christ with their lips. 00:32:17.69\00:32:20.97 Laodicea needs more than a doctrinal correctness. 00:32:21.18\00:32:24.46 Laodicea needs more than simply an external label. 00:32:24.66\00:32:28.88 Laodicea needs the gold tried in the fire. 00:32:29.08\00:32:32.44 Gold is precious. 00:32:32.74\00:32:34.89 I Peter chapter 1. We look there... verse 7: 00:32:35.20\00:32:39.89 "That the genuineness of your faith 00:32:40.09\00:32:42.45 being much more precious than gold 00:32:42.65\00:32:45.49 that perishes though it is tested by fire 00:32:45.69\00:32:49.23 may be found to praise, honor, and glory 00:32:49.43\00:32:52.01 at the revelation of Jesus Christ. " 00:32:52.21\00:32:54.28 So the gold is the preciousness of your faith. 00:32:54.48\00:32:58.25 What is faith? 00:32:58.55\00:33:00.66 Faith is trusting God as a friend well known. 00:33:00.96\00:33:04.58 How do you develop faith? 00:33:05.69\00:33:08.38 Romans chapter 10 verse 17 says: "Faith comes by hearing 00:33:08.58\00:33:12.49 and hearing by the... " What? "Word of God. " 00:33:12.69\00:33:15.11 So when Jesus, the heavenly Merchantman, 00:33:15.41\00:33:19.11 invites us to take the gold, He's inviting us to develop 00:33:19.31\00:33:24.22 a faith that will stand the crisis of time. 00:33:24.42\00:33:27.64 He's inviting us to enter into a study of His Word - 00:33:27.85\00:33:32.68 personally, practically - and let the Word of God 00:33:32.89\00:33:37.28 transform our lives to develop a deep relationship of faith 00:33:37.48\00:33:41.55 with Him. Look at what Peter says. 00:33:41.75\00:33:44.18 After he talks about this gold tried in the fire, 00:33:44.38\00:33:47.06 this faith, he says... 00:33:47.26\00:33:50.75 I Peter chapter 1 verse 23: 00:33:50.96\00:33:54.05 "Having been born again, not of corruptible seed 00:33:54.25\00:33:58.12 but incorruptible, through the Word of God 00:33:58.32\00:34:01.33 which lives and abides forever. " 00:34:01.53\00:34:03.77 How is it that when we drift into Laodicean complacency 00:34:03.97\00:34:07.94 we can be born again? How is it that as our experience 00:34:08.15\00:34:12.28 with Jesus becomes apathetic our hearts can be changed? 00:34:12.48\00:34:15.90 That we can be moved from being indifferent? 00:34:16.10\00:34:18.30 Peter tells us. 00:34:18.50\00:34:19.54 "Having been born again, not of corruptible seed 00:34:19.57\00:34:22.10 but incorruptible, through the Word of God. " 00:34:22.30\00:34:25.49 II Peter. What is it that will bring revival 00:34:25.69\00:34:29.90 to God's people? What is it that will transform 00:34:30.10\00:34:33.25 the Laodicean spiritual experience? 00:34:33.35\00:34:35.47 It is as men and women on their knees 00:34:35.67\00:34:38.70 open God's Word and allow the precious promises 00:34:38.90\00:34:42.22 of God's Word to transform their life. 00:34:42.33\00:34:44.70 There is nothing that substitutes in the Christian 00:34:44.90\00:34:47.78 life for taking time with Jesus in His Word. 00:34:47.88\00:34:51.10 You cannot be a solid, vibrant, committed 00:34:51.30\00:34:56.19 Christian unless the Word of God transforms your life 00:34:56.39\00:35:00.35 and changes your mind. 00:35:00.55\00:35:02.51 "We are not conformed to this world but we are transformed 00:35:02.81\00:35:05.87 by the renewing of our mind. " II Peter chapter 1. 00:35:05.97\00:35:08.98 Notice he says... II Peter chapter 1: 00:35:09.30\00:35:13.06 "By which... " verse 4 "have been given to us exceeding 00:35:13.26\00:35:18.37 great and precious... " What? 00:35:18.57\00:35:20.58 "promises that through these you may be partakers 00:35:20.78\00:35:24.23 of the divine nature having escaped the corruption 00:35:24.43\00:35:27.93 of the world that is through lust. " 00:35:28.03\00:35:30.88 We escape the corruption of the world 00:35:31.08\00:35:33.70 and are partakers of the divine nature 00:35:33.90\00:35:36.14 as we fill our mind with God's Word. 00:35:36.35\00:35:39.24 Listen to what James says. James chapter 1. 00:35:39.54\00:35:43.30 There is a danger. The danger is 00:35:44.57\00:35:49.57 that we substitute listening to sermons 00:35:49.77\00:35:53.58 on DVD to listening to the voice of God in His Word. 00:35:53.78\00:35:59.62 I thank God for the media ministries. 00:36:00.55\00:36:02.79 I thank God for 3ABN. 00:36:02.89\00:36:04.44 I thank God for Hope Channel. 00:36:04.54\00:36:05.84 I thank God for every Adventist ministry... all of them! 00:36:05.94\00:36:09.14 Breath of Life... praise God for it. 00:36:09.37\00:36:11.96 It Is Written... praise God for it. 00:36:12.36\00:36:15.00 Amazing Facts... praise God for it. 00:36:15.20\00:36:17.25 But if you think that you're going to develop a deep 00:36:17.55\00:36:20.97 spiritual experience by becoming a religious groupie 00:36:21.17\00:36:24.70 and following your favorite TV preacher 00:36:25.00\00:36:29.15 be it Mark Finley or anybody else, 00:36:29.35\00:36:31.25 that will not provide the depth that God wants you to have. 00:36:33.29\00:36:39.24 The answer to Laodicea is found in the Word of God. 00:36:40.86\00:36:46.04 The book of James. 00:36:46.34\00:36:47.67 There is no substitute for opening God's Word. 00:36:47.97\00:36:52.67 There is no substitute for letting God speak to you 00:36:52.97\00:36:56.79 through His book. There is no substitute 00:36:56.89\00:37:00.09 for the transformation of character that comes. 00:37:00.29\00:37:03.61 The gold tried in the fire 00:37:03.81\00:37:07.22 is the development of faith 00:37:07.42\00:37:11.35 through a mind immersed in the Word of the Living God. 00:37:11.55\00:37:15.17 James chapter 1. 00:37:15.28\00:37:17.83 Verse... looking there in the book of James 00:37:18.33\00:37:21.50 chapter 1 verse 21. 00:37:21.70\00:37:24.14 "Therefore lay aside all filthiness and the overflow 00:37:24.34\00:37:29.01 of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted Word 00:37:29.22\00:37:34.38 which is able to save your souls. " 00:37:34.58\00:37:36.22 The implanted Word! I love that expression. 00:37:36.42\00:37:39.38 Has the Word of God been implanted in your mind? 00:37:39.58\00:37:44.04 Has the Word of God saturated your consciousness? 00:37:44.24\00:37:48.76 Has the Word of God molded and shaped your thinking 00:37:48.96\00:37:52.92 and transformed your life? 00:37:53.22\00:37:55.06 Revival - genuine, authentic revival - will not come to this 00:37:55.26\00:38:00.48 church simply because there's some music that makes you 00:38:00.58\00:38:03.70 want to clap your hands. 00:38:03.80\00:38:05.58 That may lead to false revival. 00:38:06.96\00:38:09.70 A false revival's going to come. 00:38:11.35\00:38:13.41 It's going to be based on emotionalism and sentimentalism. 00:38:13.62\00:38:17.02 And for a people that are not used to disciplined study 00:38:17.22\00:38:21.03 of God's Word and that want a quick fix in religion, 00:38:21.13\00:38:24.94 that want a candy-coated, sugar-coated gospel 00:38:25.24\00:38:30.27 that makes them feel good, 00:38:30.37\00:38:31.98 the devil will provide a counterfeit. 00:38:32.18\00:38:35.41 Shallow calls to shallow 00:38:36.96\00:38:39.42 but deep calleth to deep. 00:38:39.72\00:38:41.63 I do not call you tonight to a shallow, superficial, 00:38:41.93\00:38:47.20 easy-going, crossless Christian experience. 00:38:47.40\00:38:51.89 Tonight I call you to the depths of God's Word. 00:38:52.79\00:38:55.88 I call you to fill your mind for it is written 00:38:56.29\00:39:00.57 none but those who have fortified their minds 00:39:00.77\00:39:04.38 with the teaching of scripture, and I quote: 00:39:04.58\00:39:06.79 "will stand through the final crisis. " 00:39:07.09\00:39:11.11 Revival comes through saturating our minds with the Word of God. 00:39:11.31\00:39:15.36 This is what Jesus is talking about to Laodicea: 00:39:15.56\00:39:18.85 the faith, the gold, the Christian experience 00:39:19.05\00:39:21.43 that comes through God's Word. 00:39:21.63\00:39:23.05 Psalm 119. 00:39:23.25\00:39:24.73 What is the source of revival? 00:39:24.93\00:39:26.98 What is the very heart of revival? 00:39:27.18\00:39:29.77 What is the very essence of revival? 00:39:30.07\00:39:32.70 Psalm 119. 00:39:32.90\00:39:34.70 And we look there in the 119th Psalm 00:39:35.01\00:39:38.10 in the 107th verse... 00:39:38.30\00:39:41.18 Let's look at verses 105, 106, 107. 00:39:41.38\00:39:43.91 Psalm 119 105, 106, and 107. 00:39:44.21\00:39:49.95 "Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path. 00:39:50.25\00:39:54.34 I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your 00:39:54.45\00:39:56.41 righteous judgments. I am afflicted much. 00:39:56.51\00:39:58.55 Revive me, O Lord, according to Your... " What everybody? 00:39:58.75\00:40:03.73 "Revive me, O Lord, according to... " What? 00:40:03.94\00:40:06.71 "Your Word. " 00:40:06.91\00:40:08.12 What is the source and the heart of revival? 00:40:08.32\00:40:10.89 Revival comes as we pray over God's Word. 00:40:11.09\00:40:14.65 Do you see why the Laodicean message is full of 00:40:14.85\00:40:18.60 as the prophet of God to the remnant says: 00:40:18.70\00:40:20.60 "hope and encouragement? " 00:40:20.70\00:40:21.73 Because as we fill our minds with God's Word 00:40:21.93\00:40:24.32 the same Holy Spirit that inspired the Bible 00:40:24.53\00:40:26.70 inspires our hearts. 00:40:26.90\00:40:28.16 The Creator God who spoke and it was done, 00:40:28.36\00:40:31.33 who commanded and it stood fast, 00:40:31.53\00:40:33.57 the creative energy and I quote again: 00:40:33.77\00:40:36.22 "the creative energy that brought worlds into existence 00:40:36.42\00:40:39.33 is in the Word of God. " 00:40:39.53\00:40:41.23 The same Jesus who spoke worlds into existence 00:40:41.53\00:40:45.60 speaks to us through His Word and our lives are transformed 00:40:45.80\00:40:49.20 through the very Word of God. 00:40:49.40\00:40:50.54 Back to Revelation chapter 3. 00:40:50.74\00:40:52.56 What does the heavenly Merchantman invite us to do? 00:40:52.76\00:40:56.33 First, He comes knocking on the door of your heart 00:40:56.63\00:40:58.75 and He says: "Will you give Me time? " 00:40:58.95\00:41:00.58 "Will you give Me time? " 00:41:00.88\00:41:03.11 In Revelation chapter 3: 00:41:03.41\00:41:05.71 "Will you give Me time to build within you a faith? " 00:41:05.91\00:41:10.61 "Will you give Me time to build within you 00:41:10.81\00:41:14.57 a strength of character? " 00:41:14.77\00:41:17.57 "Will you spend time every day 00:41:17.77\00:41:20.86 allowing Me to speak to you from My Word? " 00:41:21.06\00:41:24.91 Revelation 3. 00:41:25.21\00:41:27.23 "I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire 00:41:27.63\00:41:30.93 that you may be rich 00:41:31.13\00:41:33.08 and white raiments that you may be clothed. " 00:41:33.28\00:41:36.72 What are these white raiments? 00:41:37.02\00:41:40.93 Well, Revelation chapter 19. 00:41:41.14\00:41:43.47 Take your Bible there: Revelation chapter 19. 00:41:43.67\00:41:46.44 And you're going to look at Revelation chapter 19 00:41:46.64\00:41:49.79 and you're going to look at verse 9. 00:41:49.99\00:41:52.24 Revelation chapter 19 verse 9. 00:41:52.54\00:41:55.56 What is this white raiment? 00:41:55.76\00:41:58.08 Revelation chapter 19 verse 9 00:41:58.38\00:42:01.66 describes what this white raiment is. 00:42:01.86\00:42:05.11 Revelation 19 verse 9. 00:42:05.41\00:42:07.33 We'll start with verse 7. 00:42:09.86\00:42:12.16 "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory 00:42:12.47\00:42:15.32 for the marriage of the Lamb has come 00:42:15.52\00:42:17.21 and His wife has made herself ready. 00:42:17.41\00:42:19.52 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, 00:42:19.72\00:42:23.47 clean and white, for the fine linen is the righteous acts 00:42:23.67\00:42:26.52 of the saints. " What is this white raiment? 00:42:26.62\00:42:29.64 It is Jesus' righteousness that transforms our lives. 00:42:29.94\00:42:35.57 What is Jesus saying when He says: "Come to Me 00:42:35.77\00:42:38.76 and receive this white raiment? " 00:42:38.96\00:42:40.63 He's saying: "Bathe your mind 00:42:40.83\00:42:43.92 in an understanding of My grace and My righteousness. 00:42:44.13\00:42:47.07 You are frail and weak and sinful 00:42:48.21\00:42:51.83 and all your righteousness is as filthy rags. 00:42:52.23\00:42:55.23 Even your righteous acts are tainted by selfish motives 00:42:55.53\00:42:59.70 but come to Me... immerse yourself in Me. " 00:42:59.90\00:43:03.82 I love that old hymn Not I, But Christ... 00:43:04.12\00:43:06.44 be honored, loved, exalted. 00:43:06.74\00:43:08.88 Not I, but Christ, be seen, be known, be heard. 00:43:09.18\00:43:12.41 Not I, but Christ, in every look and action. 00:43:12.71\00:43:15.17 Not I, but Christ, in every deed and word. 00:43:15.37\00:43:17.74 Jesus says: "Come and allow Me to fill your heart. 00:43:18.04\00:43:21.99 Come and allow me to change your life. 00:43:22.19\00:43:24.04 Come and allow Me to be your Savior, your Lord. 00:43:24.34\00:43:30.29 Come and allow Me to transform you and make you over again. 00:43:30.59\00:43:35.78 Drink deeply of My grace 00:43:36.08\00:43:39.20 and My love and My salvation. " 00:43:39.40\00:43:42.13 Jesus says to you and to me tonight: 00:43:42.53\00:43:45.39 "Spend time immersing your mind in My grace, 00:43:45.59\00:43:50.80 My goodness, My righteousness. " 00:43:51.00\00:43:53.69 Dwight L. Moody once said 00:43:53.89\00:43:55.56 "The man the world has yet to see: 00:43:55.77\00:43:59.05 that man, that woman who is totally consecrated to God. 00:44:01.32\00:44:06.05 I will be that man. " 00:44:06.25\00:44:08.22 Do you hear the call of God to your heart? 00:44:08.52\00:44:12.09 "I will be that man... I will be that woman. 00:44:12.29\00:44:14.23 Lord, all I want is to reflect Your love. 00:44:14.43\00:44:16.83 All I want is to reflect Your grace. 00:44:17.13\00:44:18.93 All I want is Your grace to flow out of me. 00:44:19.23\00:44:22.02 I want to reveal Jesus 00:44:22.12\00:44:24.41 in kindness and compassion and gentleness. 00:44:24.71\00:44:27.29 I know, Lord, there's no goodness in me. 00:44:27.39\00:44:29.05 I know that there is no way that my righteousness can 00:44:29.25\00:44:33.79 save me. Nobody else has to tell me how wicked I am 00:44:33.89\00:44:37.90 because I know this man's heart, 00:44:38.00\00:44:39.77 I know this man's mind. " 00:44:39.97\00:44:41.88 Nothing in my hand I bring, 00:44:43.16\00:44:47.34 only to His cross I cling. 00:44:47.54\00:44:51.55 Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it! 00:44:51.85\00:44:54.13 Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. 00:44:54.44\00:44:57.02 Redeemed and so happy in Jesus! 00:44:57.32\00:45:00.49 Laodicea... an appeal to the cross. 00:45:00.79\00:45:06.52 An appeal to kneel before Him 00:45:06.72\00:45:09.16 and praise Him for His righteousness and His goodness 00:45:09.46\00:45:12.84 and His love. 00:45:13.04\00:45:14.24 What is the message to Laodicea 00:45:14.44\00:45:16.84 in Revelation chapter 3? 00:45:16.94\00:45:19.29 It is a message to develop faith and strength of character 00:45:19.39\00:45:22.82 through His Word. 00:45:23.02\00:45:24.10 It is a message to be immersed in His love 00:45:24.40\00:45:27.39 and allow His grace and righteousness and goodness 00:45:27.59\00:45:31.16 to transform your life. 00:45:31.36\00:45:34.17 The last part of the verse says 00:45:35.57\00:45:37.51 "that you may be clothed. " Verse... chapter 3 verse 18. 00:45:37.71\00:45:42.85 "That the shame of your naked- ness may not be revealed. " 00:45:43.05\00:45:46.64 Without Jesus and His righteousness clothing me 00:45:46.84\00:45:51.58 the x-ray of the divine eyes of eternity 00:45:52.74\00:45:56.37 see through my fig-leaf garments of works 00:45:56.57\00:46:00.15 and I'm seen as naked before God. 00:46:02.61\00:46:05.39 But as I fall on my knees and say: "Jesus, I'm a sinner 00:46:05.69\00:46:08.19 but You are altogether righteous. 00:46:08.39\00:46:10.08 Clothe me with Your righteousness, Lord... 00:46:10.28\00:46:12.91 clothe me with Your righteousness. 00:46:13.11\00:46:15.63 Transform my life through that righteousness. " 00:46:15.83\00:46:19.37 As a sinner I am declared righteous through the 00:46:19.77\00:46:23.66 righteous life of Christ. 00:46:23.86\00:46:26.85 But as a sinner, the faith that receives 00:46:27.45\00:46:32.83 His justifying grace is the same faith that receives 00:46:33.03\00:46:37.08 His sanctifying power. 00:46:37.28\00:46:38.80 The same faith that receives justification 00:46:40.27\00:46:43.56 for my past and present failures 00:46:43.86\00:46:47.17 receives His power and sanctification to transform me. 00:46:47.37\00:46:50.99 Salvation comes as I spend time with Jesus in His Word. 00:46:52.74\00:46:57.07 It comes as I cast my helpless soul upon Him 00:46:57.37\00:47:01.92 and let Him clothe me with His beautiful robe of righteousness. 00:47:02.42\00:47:06.66 And He declares me before the universe as righteous. 00:47:06.86\00:47:09.58 And that which He declares me to be 00:47:09.88\00:47:12.84 He promises to me that He's not only the Author 00:47:13.04\00:47:16.46 but He is the Finisher of our faith! 00:47:16.67\00:47:19.36 He promises me that if I stay with Him 00:47:19.56\00:47:22.54 and don't drop out of the school of Christ 00:47:22.74\00:47:26.57 that He will get me through. 00:47:26.77\00:47:28.65 Because "He which hath begun a good work in you" - 00:47:28.95\00:47:31.47 Philippians 1 verse 6- "will finish it. " 00:47:31.67\00:47:34.19 I'm not all that I want to be 00:47:34.49\00:47:37.31 but I will be all I can be 00:47:37.51\00:47:41.62 through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 00:47:41.82\00:47:44.57 He surrounds me and clothes me with His righteousness 00:47:44.78\00:47:47.76 and works in me through His grace and power to transform me. 00:47:47.96\00:47:52.20 So as John says: "Behold... "Behold now are we 00:47:52.40\00:47:56.65 the sons of God. 00:47:56.85\00:47:58.81 But we do not yet know what we shall be. 00:47:59.01\00:48:01.30 But we know this: that we shall be like Him 00:48:01.50\00:48:05.82 because when He appears we shall see Him as He is. " 00:48:06.02\00:48:09.05 Jesus is taking Laodicea, whom He has clothed with His 00:48:09.35\00:48:12.64 righteousness, transforming their hearts to make them 00:48:12.74\00:48:17.14 a loving, kind people to be a witness to the world. 00:48:17.34\00:48:20.54 This is the message of Laodicea. 00:48:20.75\00:48:22.99 Let Jesus do a deep work in your heart. 00:48:23.19\00:48:25.58 Let Jesus finish the work in your heart that He began. 00:48:25.88\00:48:28.78 Let Jesus be not only the Author but the Finisher 00:48:28.88\00:48:31.45 of your faith. Revelation chapter 3 last part 00:48:31.65\00:48:33.76 of verse 18. 00:48:33.96\00:48:36.89 "And anoint your eyes with eye salve that you may see. " 00:48:38.24\00:48:41.69 What is the eye salve? 00:48:41.79\00:48:42.88 It is the Holy Spirit bringing us conviction of who we are. 00:48:43.18\00:48:46.81 It's the Holy Spirit showing us our need of Jesus Christ. 00:48:46.91\00:48:50.47 Oh Jesus, I don't want to be so rushed, even in my ministry, 00:48:51.89\00:48:56.58 that I miss receiving the gold 00:48:57.84\00:48:59.81 and that the faith and strength of character is not developed 00:49:00.11\00:49:03.56 in me to stand in the final crisis. 00:49:03.76\00:49:06.68 I don't want to be so clothed in the accomplishments of my 00:49:08.11\00:49:12.36 works that I don't kneel before You 00:49:12.46\00:49:15.24 and receive Your grace. 00:49:15.44\00:49:18.01 Lord, I don't want to be so blind 00:49:18.22\00:49:21.56 that I don't see my nature that drives me to Jesus. 00:49:21.87\00:49:26.74 And Jesus says Revelation chapter 3 verse 20: 00:49:26.94\00:49:28.65 "Behold I stand at the door and knock. 00:49:28.75\00:49:29.92 If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will 00:49:31.23\00:49:34.44 come in to him and sup with him and he with Me. " 00:49:34.64\00:49:36.51 In the Eastern world, supper 00:49:36.71\00:49:39.36 was a meal that you sat down in fellowship. 00:49:39.57\00:49:41.94 You don't run by. 00:49:42.04\00:49:43.32 Jesus says: "I'm standing at the door knocking. 00:49:43.52\00:49:45.63 Can I come in? Can I come in? 00:49:45.83\00:49:48.45 I'm standing there at that door and knocking. 00:49:48.65\00:49:51.85 Will you make a total complete surrender 00:49:52.15\00:49:54.94 of your life to Me? " 00:49:55.04\00:49:57.07 "Will you allow Me to fill that aching void in your soul? " 00:49:57.27\00:50:02.02 You're an Adventist. You're a tithe-paying, Sabbath- 00:50:02.22\00:50:06.15 keeping, health-reforming Adventist 00:50:06.25\00:50:07.97 but you're running through life. And deep down in your soul 00:50:08.17\00:50:13.19 there is an aching for a genuine spirituality. 00:50:13.39\00:50:16.65 You are saying: "God, there must be something more! " 00:50:16.85\00:50:20.48 And Jesus says to you: "Come. Come. Open your heart. 00:50:20.78\00:50:26.64 Let Me change your life.
