effective in your ministry.

And after some years
the Lord led you to a way

to focus better on some
of the people groups there,

organization that you helped?

Yes, we worked with
Mountain View College

and there was a
student missionary organization

there called Sulads that
had died for lack of funding.

And in the 1994,
we able to resurrect

that program and this
program, the students from
00:04:48.49\00:04:51.83
Mountain View College
take a year off of school
00:04:51.84\00:04:54.40
and go out and live
in the primitive tribes
00:04:54.41\00:04:56.17
in the mountains
and they teach them
00:04:56.18\00:04:59.32
how to read and write.
00:04:59.33\00:05:00.85
And of course, in the process,

they teach them about Jesus.

So, these are like
tribal groups, aren't they?

Oh, yes, these
are the tribal groups,

primitive groups that
live in the mountains.

And, and what were
some of the results,

do you ever get a break through?

Thousands of
people from the mountains

are now Seventh-day Adventists,

many of them have
gone on to high school

that we built
because we needed to keep

them in our church
and they were drawing away

after they
finished elementary school.

Have you ever reached the chief?

We've reach chiefs, in
fact I like to tell you

about one today.

Chief Undug, we call him

Datu Undug, was a
very powerful chief.

And these people in
the mountains are animists,

they worship the
trees, and the rocks,

and everything that's around.

They worship their ancestors.

And this Datu
was powerful in that,

he had seven albularyos,
an albularyo is a spirit guy,

a demon that comes
up and gives him advice
00:06:02.78\00:06:06.55
on how to make
decisions and what to do.

He was powerful
enough that the bullets
00:06:10.17\00:06:14.00
from an enemy
could not penetrate him,
00:06:14.01\00:06:16.80
he had many miraculous powers.
00:06:16.81\00:06:20.10
But one day,
missionaries came to his village
00:06:20.11\00:06:22.69
and they began to
teach about the Bible,
00:06:22.70\00:06:25.16
and as he listened to
what they were telling him.

He said, you know, I
think that's a better way

of life and what I'm living.

I think maybe I
would like to follow that.

But, you know, I've always ask

advice on what should I do.

And so he did as
he had always done,

he killed the pig, he
killed the white chicken

and he called up his albularyos,

and he was
talking to them just like

we're talking here face to face.

Oh, boy, sure.

this lady has come to our
village and is teaching us

And the albularyos
looked at him and he said,

I'm lost, I had no hope,

You know, the demons still know

who their supreme commander is.

work with the chief

to the people group there,

educate the young people.

Yes, we had a high
school in Central Mindanao,

a Seventh-day

there is a long ways
for our people to go,
00:07:37.50\00:07:40.15
we need to have a
high school right here.

In fact, you he
said, I have 100 hectares,
00:07:42.83\00:07:45.58
that's 220 acres, I will donate
00:07:45.59\00:07:48.62
if you will build
a high school there.

But there was no
money, five years went by,

Datu Undug passed away.

And I have a picture of a
chief who was the successor

of Datu Undug, his
name was Datu Phillix,

Datu Phillix said, you know,

if you're not
going to use the land,

we're gonna
have to take it back.

You know, that was for
the high school level. Yes.

Well, now, before
that you started off

elementary level. Yes.

And that was a
blessing to young people

to at least get
some education. Oh, yes.

But that
actually caused a problem.

It caused a problem,
because they were now

able to read and write.

And the rebel groups in
the mountains were recruiting

them to be the
trainers for their rebel groups.

Because of their being.

Because they could read
and write, they were literate.

So you had to take
them to another level. Yes.

And how did that
solve that problem?

Well, we now have
those that have gone

through our
academies have gone back now

as student
missionaries and they're working

for their own people. Amen.

I heard about this
school, it was started,

this one up in the
area of Datu Undug,

it actually was
started, because there were

some of our
Sulads said, you know,

we need to start this school
00:09:09.92\00:09:10.93
before we lose the opportunity.
00:09:10.94\00:09:13.14
But there was no money.
00:09:13.15\00:09:15.85
But these young people
said, we don't need money,
00:09:15.86\00:09:17.99
this is God's
work, He will provide.
00:09:18.00\00:09:20.60
And so, a year ago last
June, the school was started.

Last February when I was there,
00:09:24.61\00:09:26.11
I said, I want
to see this school.
00:09:26.12\00:09:27.75
And so we went on our
trip to get out there.

This is the
school building itself,

that's all there is,
that's the dormitory,

I'm sorry, not the dormitory,

it's the classrooms,
it's, it's everything,

even the residence
for the faculty members.

Now these faculty
members have been there

now for over a year,
they still have not received

a full stipend
because there are no funds

to fund this
part of the program.

But they said, this is why God
called us to be missionaries.

The students in the school
are only in the freshmen class

when I was there in February
and they are about 54 of them,

and their lives have
been changed in such a way

that their parents are
saying, what are you doing

for our students,
their lives are changed

and they're no longer drinking,

they're no longer smoking,
they're no longer gambling,
00:10:17.14\00:10:20.08
what are you doing?

And we say, we're
teaching them about Jesus.

Brings you real joy
when you develop and devoted

so long of your life
to see something like this

flowing out of it,
and the people are really

being helped on
the grass roots level.

It's a real
reward to see the change

a certain amount of prejudice
between those that have

There is a lot
of prejudice against

We are the number four
church in terms of population.

But there are many
islands out there who have

not yet received our
message and we have a program

of treating people with a
certain kind of skin disease,

it's called bakwa
in the local language.

It effects the skin
and it causes very bad odor

and the person that's
affected scratches whole night,

it's a result they
have other problems likes,

you know, skin infection
coming up on top of the bakwa.

And that is what
we're using to reach people,

thousands of people come
forward requesting treatment.

have been able to give

they have it for a
