Well, we
started this when we saw

a need for
roofs, because they were

made of banana
leaves or coconut leaves.

And our focus is on
getting tin roofs put on

and we have a
volunteer team there

in Haiti where we are working.

That put these
roofs on for free.

we were helping was pregnant.

three kilometers into town

going to carry the tin

for her roof
rolled up on her head

all the way back
to her little hut.

It was really challenging,

we got on our mud bikes

and rode out to
the site ahead of her.

But we got to her hut
long before she got there,

were four children,

they were naked.

I looked in their little
hut and they were some clothes

probably on the floor that

they might had been sleeping on.

Over there beside the
hut was a little fire,

was some soup in it.

It didn't have
anything solid in it.

And this is what the children
were gonna have for breakfast.

The hut itself was
maybe 8X8 or something,

you know, and the banana leaves

on the roof were just shredded.

But what did
encourage me was Edelin

had taken some of his own money

and he enlarged her house.

He put a framework around it,

now she will have
to make the walls.

But anyway, her roof was gonna

make her house
about four times bigger.

But it was a very
touching experience

to watch these children.

Now I know that
we've seen some pictures

of the roofs and there is
a finished roof right there

specific cases where

lives have been impacted by

what you're doing, reaching out.

Jesus in fact

stories that the ladies

themselves told about how
their life had been changed.

One said, all I can

to tell you how I was living.

There's a mother of
five, that said she was

discouraged with
life when it was raining,

because everything got wet,

but when Edelin
offered me this new roof

I just could not
be able to believe it

because I felt
like I was dreaming.

And I thank the people who
paid for my brand new roof.

I was the poorest women
in the area where I live

because I was the only
one who had leafs on my roof.

And then after
receiving the brand new roof

with tin I felt rich,
because I can sleep at night.

my prayer request,

90s, we started buying,

boy, it was primitive days back.

Then you know, if you had,

if you had one megabyte you

But in 1996, we
built a television studio

in a backwoods of

I thought I was

and get a little stool
but this thing is massive.

So I almost couldn't pick it up.

I was baptized 12, 13

at an ASI

And I was only at the
Youth for Jesus Meetings

that Pastor
Asscherick was preaching at,

because I had received
an invitation from my mom.

My mom is a very
determined person
00:29:56.10\00:29:58.40
and that's the
kindest way to describe her,

when it came to her approach
00:30:00.86\00:30:03.70
to sharing the
gospel with her children.

Determined, some
people would say stubborn,

hardheaded, and aggressive.

I'll say she was determined
and she invited me to come

and hear the
messages being preached

by the team, the
evangelistic team

that ASI have funded to
preach in Orlando, Florida.

And when she ask me
to come I considered
00:30:23.20\00:30:25.40
in my mind, do I want to go?
00:30:25.40\00:30:26.93
No, I don't want to
go, but if I say to mom,
00:30:26.93\00:30:30.46
I'm not going, oh
it just gonna have,
00:30:30.46\00:30:33.03
I'm gonna have a
few weeks of conflict

and headaches and
arguments and I'll just say yes.

And so I said to
my mom, yeah, I'll go

and listen to this preaching.

And I thought to
myself that she'd forget.

And that's why I said yes,

because the
chances of her forgetting

if I say yes, I'll go,
were better than the chances

of her leaving me alone
if I said, no I won't go.

So I said, yes I will go,

and when the meetings
came much to my chagrin

at the time, she
hadn't forgotten.

And she said to me
she said, hey, you know,

these meetings are happening

this great young
preacher's preaching.

He's a lot like you
and he has similar hobbies

and likes and dislikes.

And so you might want to
come and listen to him preach.

I wasn't all that impressed
and I didn't want to go,

but I went
anyways and I remember

through the course of
those meetings, my mom.

I ended up going
one night, two nights,

three nights and I
appreciated the messages

and I appreciated the
passion and the conviction.

It wasn't
something that I was going to

avail myself of,
or give myself to

I just kind of was
gonna go through the motions

and sit through
these meetings and be,

you know, a person who avoided
the conflict with my mom.

And through the
course of the meetings

my mom decided that
she was gonna be baptized

in that series of
meetings, re-baptized actually.

And so every night
since she was my ride

I would sit in the
baptismal classes that they had
00:32:01.23\00:32:05.93
there in the tent at
that evangelistic series.

And so my mom's
here, the group of people

are behind us
and I'm sitting here.

And one of these
evenings as I'm sitting

there listening to
the re-baptismal class,

a pastor came up to me,
he used to work with ASI

as an evangelism coordinator,

his name was Louie Torres.

And he is a very
unique individual

and in many different
ways, you know he wears like the

old-fashion like
tight pant suits,

and he has like
the sleek, you know,

kind of 1950s, like
you don't know if it's

plastic hair
hairdo kind of a thing.

And you know he's a
very distinguished man,

a very self-possessed confident

looking man you know.

And from the
perspective of a non-Adventist,

worldly minded crazy guy,

and he is a very
unique character you know.

And I remember I
am sitting there,

kind of just going

listening to these classes,

whatever I was thinking.

And Pastor Louie

that you are
going to be re-baptized.

And I thought to myself, boy,

hadn't even spoken and he said,

That's what he saw, a depraved,

name Matthew the tax collector.

He saw an extortion, that's
physically what Matthew was,

Matthew was sitting there.

Jesus saw a man named Matthew
sitting at the tax office.

And lo and behold he
says him, "Follow Me."
