Good evening GYC. Audience: good evening! 00:00:12.00\00:00:14.90 Welcome to our Friday evening service. 00:00:14.90\00:00:17.70 How many of you went on outreach today? 00:00:17.70\00:00:20.43 Wasn't it a blessing? Audience: yes! 00:00:22.73\00:00:25.30 I understand that it was, well it was cold out there. 00:00:25.30\00:00:28.70 I understand it was 10 below freezing, but it was a 00:00:28.70\00:00:32.06 blessing nonetheless. 00:00:32.06\00:00:33.96 By way of a quick update, I understand that so far they 00:00:33.96\00:00:39.10 have tallied up 925 Bible studies, Amen! 00:00:39.10\00:00:43.63 Audience: Amen! 00:00:43.63\00:00:44.93 We are going to get more updates tomorrow morning. 00:00:44.93\00:00:47.13 My name is Mark Teh and I currently serve as the director 00:00:47.13\00:00:52.03 for the Western Youth Conference. 00:00:52.03\00:00:54.06 On behalf of GYC's West, I want to extend to each of you 00:00:54.06\00:00:58.46 a happy Sabbath and also a blessed New Year. 00:00:58.46\00:01:02.36 I want to wish you the best in this upcoming decade. 00:01:02.36\00:01:06.96 I echo the sentiment of Pastor Asscherick, what a 00:01:06.96\00:01:10.96 blessing it is to start this New Year, and this new 00:01:10.96\00:01:14.90 decade, as part of this holy convocation. 00:01:14.90\00:01:18.26 As I reflect on our theme "Unashamed", one of the things 00:01:18.26\00:01:23.30 that I am reminded of is when we look at our 00:01:23.30\00:01:26.23 circumstances, or the situation that God may allow us to 00:01:26.23\00:01:29.90 be in, we are to look at it not from the lens of the 00:01:29.90\00:01:34.26 world, not from the eyes of self-interest, but rather 00:01:34.26\00:01:38.63 with the lens of faith, with the eyes of God. 00:01:38.63\00:01:42.73 Often we begin a new year, we wonder what does this year 00:01:42.73\00:01:48.00 hold for me, what does this year hold for you. 00:01:48.00\00:01:51.80 But I submit to you that the question we should be 00:01:51.80\00:01:55.06 asking, or the greater question we should be asking, 00:01:55.06\00:01:59.10 is what does this year hold for God in regards to our 00:01:59.10\00:02:03.13 vital connection with Him? 00:02:03.13\00:02:05.23 My appeal to you is that as we begin this New Year 00:02:05.23\00:02:09.60 together that each day we are blessed with, that we would 00:02:09.60\00:02:14.70 give it back to God in loving submission to our Creator, 00:02:14.70\00:02:19.73 our Redeemer, and are soon coming King. 00:02:19.73\00:02:22.70 May the Lord add His blessing to our 00:02:22.70\00:02:25.63 worship this evening. 00:02:25.63\00:02:27.63 If we could bow our heads for prayer. 00:02:36.13\00:02:37.86 Our Father in heaven, thank you so much for this 00:02:40.40\00:02:44.06 beautiful day as we begin the Sabbath rest that You 00:02:44.06\00:02:47.73 have provided for us. 00:02:47.73\00:02:49.40 Father I pray that You will send your Spirit on this place. 00:02:49.40\00:02:52.50 That You will send your Spirit on each one of the people 00:02:52.50\00:02:55.86 here. Father I pray that You will be with the speakers and 00:02:55.86\00:02:58.93 You will be each person who will be presenting a message 00:02:58.93\00:03:02.50 tonight, that You will be with them as they tried to put 00:03:02.50\00:03:06.16 across the message that You have and have sent through 00:03:06.16\00:03:09.50 them. I pray that You will be with the viewers and open 00:03:09.50\00:03:13.20 their hearts and open their minds. I also pray Father 00:03:13.20\00:03:17.33 that tonight You will help us be unashamed for You, and 00:03:17.33\00:03:21.43 we pray this in Your wonderful name Amen! 00:03:21.43\00:03:24.73 Good evening everyone! 00:03:38.03\00:03:39.83 We were extremely privileged this year to be part of a 00:03:39.83\00:03:43.80 pilot program that GYC tried this year. 00:03:43.80\00:03:46.30 It involves mission work and the program is called 00:03:46.30\00:03:49.86 Intermission, our goal was simply to get young people 00:03:49.86\00:03:53.40 trying for mission work themselves. 00:03:53.40\00:03:56.46 So we set up two trips, one to Ecuador and one to the 00:03:56.46\00:03:59.50 Philippines and we are going to be sharing with you 00:03:59.50\00:04:02.70 tonight a little about those mission trips and the 00:04:02.70\00:04:05.83 experiences we had on them. 00:04:05.83\00:04:07.66 The first set of trips that I was involved in or to the 00:04:07.66\00:04:12.43 country of Ecuador. 00:04:12.43\00:04:13.60 We had three different groups that went during the month 00:04:13.60\00:04:17.63 of May to build one-day churches with Maranatha. 00:04:17.63\00:04:21.53 We held some health clinics and to do community service, 00:04:21.53\00:04:26.03 get to know the church members we were 00:04:26.03\00:04:28.23 building a church for. 00:04:28.23\00:04:29.70 Overall it was a powerful experience and I have brought 00:04:29.70\00:04:33.30 some of the participants with me today. 00:04:33.30\00:04:35.10 They will share with you what their 00:04:35.10\00:04:36.90 experiences were like. 00:04:36.90\00:04:38.36 The first person I'm going to interview is 00:04:38.36\00:04:40.23 Dulsey Morales. 00:04:40.23\00:04:41.46 She was with us on our first trip where we went to 00:04:41.46\00:04:43.56 Ecuador, a beautiful city right on the sea. 00:04:43.56\00:04:46.46 We built three different one-day churches, held a 00:04:46.46\00:04:50.70 medical clinic, and also did some community service time. 00:04:50.70\00:04:54.70 Dulsey is one of our translators, as well as heavily 00:04:54.70\00:05:00.23 involved in some of the medical work we did. 00:05:00.23\00:05:03.13 So I'm going to ask Dulsey, what did you gain from the 00:05:03.13\00:05:06.56 trip, what did you learn from the experience, and would 00:05:06.56\00:05:09.96 it be something you would do again? 00:05:09.96\00:05:11.90 Well Audrey I must really say I enjoyed going to Ecuador. 00:05:11.90\00:05:16.83 I enjoyed meeting all the wonderful people. 00:05:16.83\00:05:18.56 What I liked most about going was able to help people. 00:05:18.56\00:05:22.20 I was able to understand ministry on a different level. 00:05:22.20\00:05:25.50 You are able to see people that were in great need. 00:05:25.50\00:05:28.13 After building the three one day churches we were able 00:05:28.13\00:05:30.80 to have an opportunity to do medical outreach to the 00:05:30.80\00:05:33.90 community, people started lining up at 8 in the morning. 00:05:33.90\00:05:36.90 We had approximately 28 groups of families with 5 to 7 members 00:05:36.90\00:05:42.26 in each family and we were there all day 00:05:42.26\00:05:44.46 working and helping them. 00:05:44.46\00:05:47.30 We were ministering to their physical needs, which later 00:05:47.30\00:05:49.93 the church will follow up with their spiritual needs. 00:05:49.93\00:05:53.10 I was there all day from the morning until the last 00:05:53.10\00:05:55.80 crew to leave and I must say it was the most wonderful 00:05:55.80\00:05:58.43 experience, I didn't take a break or eat lunch. 00:05:58.43\00:06:03.06 I was able to understand the word sacrifice in a 00:06:03.06\00:06:07.16 new light and was thinking if we would be able to do 00:06:07.16\00:06:11.26 that every day and Minister to everyone in our 00:06:11.26\00:06:13.90 neighborhood, in our area, and broader as well the 00:06:13.90\00:06:16.86 message would of this wonderful hope we have, Jesus is 00:06:16.86\00:06:19.80 coming very soon will be able to be spread to the 00:06:19.80\00:06:22.83 world a lot faster. 00:06:22.83\00:06:24.50 I would definitely do it again. 00:06:24.50\00:06:26.26 Our second trip was to the city of Esmeraldas, 00:06:28.43\00:06:31.20 it is a coastal oil town. 00:06:31.20\00:06:33.00 It's known to be a less than reputable town in Ecuador. 00:06:33.00\00:06:36.36 But we had amazing experiences there. 00:06:36.36\00:06:38.80 One of our participants is Kenneth Fulkman, 00:06:38.80\00:06:42.53 who is with me today. 00:06:42.53\00:06:44.00 He had an accident 10 years ago that caused the 00:06:44.00\00:06:47.93 loss of his legs and Ken was wondering if his work for 00:06:47.93\00:06:51.10 God was finished. 00:06:51.10\00:06:52.83 When Kenny e-mailed me and asked if there was any way 00:06:52.83\00:06:56.56 that someone in a wheelchair could come on one of our mission 00:06:56.56\00:06:58.80 trips, we were really excited to make it possible. 00:06:58.80\00:07:01.93 Since then Ken has gone on to realize that God is still 00:07:01.93\00:07:06.36 using him, and Ken I want you to share how you felt God 00:07:06.36\00:07:10.60 used you in Esmeraldas and how that has changed the way 00:07:10.60\00:07:14.83 you have served Him since. 00:07:14.83\00:07:16.60 Well it was at last GYC I saw the film for the one-day 00:07:16.60\00:07:21.66 church and I have a mechanical background so I thought 00:07:21.66\00:07:26.70 that's something I would be interested in doing. 00:07:26.70\00:07:29.73 When I sent the e-mail I was hoping there was a way 00:07:29.73\00:07:32.70 that I could go. 00:07:32.70\00:07:34.26 It made me realize I can still do stuff to reach people. 00:07:34.26\00:07:40.30 I actually returned from a mission trip in Peru just 00:07:40.30\00:07:46.33 the first two weeks of December. 00:07:46.33\00:07:49.70 Audience: Amen! 00:07:49.70\00:07:51.66 So Ken has realized that God is never done with you, 00:07:51.66\00:07:54.93 in fact God is only continuing to use you in more 00:07:54.93\00:07:58.06 powerful ways no matter what experience your life 00:07:58.06\00:08:01.16 takes you through. 00:08:01.16\00:08:02.56 Kim share with us briefly what Ecuador met to you. 00:08:02.56\00:08:06.20 This was my first mission trip and I always wanted to 00:08:06.20\00:08:09.76 go on a mission trip. 00:08:09.76\00:08:11.06 I got the imitation by another friend and it was so 00:08:11.06\00:08:14.73 uplifting to see young people actually want to help. 00:08:14.73\00:08:18.36 Who love the Lord and take the Ministry of God, 00:08:18.36\00:08:21.83 preaching, teaching and healing to a another whole 00:08:21.83\00:08:25.26 level and it was a blessing to be in Ecuador. 00:08:25.26\00:08:28.13 To meet the friendly faces and be with the friendly 00:08:28.13\00:08:30.46 people and to build a church in one day. 00:08:30.46\00:08:32.90 You hear about it, it's like it's impossible, 00:08:32.90\00:08:35.70 but with God all things are possible. 00:08:35.70\00:08:37.53 So it was wonderful. 00:08:37.53\00:08:39.06 Our last trip was particularly exciting. 00:08:39.06\00:08:42.53 We canoed four hours down the river into a village 00:08:42.53\00:08:47.83 they had no electricity, no running water. 00:08:47.83\00:08:50.30 It was primitive as you have ever seen. 00:08:50.30\00:08:52.70 I had amazing experience there and over course of the 00:08:52.70\00:08:56.30 time I learned of a rumor that was going around that 00:08:56.30\00:09:00.30 the boat drivers that had originally brought us in were 00:09:00.30\00:09:04.26 planning to kidnap the girls on our trip and 00:09:04.26\00:09:08.16 hold us for ransom. 00:09:08.16\00:09:10.10 So we ended up trying to plan on leaving a day early, 00:09:10.10\00:09:14.16 avoiding the mess altogether and it was really cool 00:09:14.16\00:09:18.40 to see how the Lord stopped a potential problem we 00:09:18.40\00:09:22.00 could it had with some gangs that broke out when we 00:09:22.00\00:09:25.56 were in the city trying to leave for the capital again. 00:09:25.56\00:09:29.10 Over all a really exciting experience and I want 00:09:29.10\00:09:32.90 Shannon to share as we were getting ready to flee a day 00:09:32.90\00:09:37.13 early from our captors, what was going on in her mind. 00:09:37.13\00:09:41.26 Actually when I first heard about what could possibly 00:09:43.03\00:09:48.30 happen, in my head I was thinking oh my, this is 00:09:48.30\00:09:51.80 actually exciting, stuff like this doesn't happen 00:09:51.80\00:09:55.30 to you everyday. 00:09:55.30\00:09:56.76 It was just so powerful to see how God worked everything 00:09:56.76\00:10:00.86 out for us, like with canoes arriving early and 00:10:00.86\00:10:04.33 unexpectedly a day early. 00:10:04.33\00:10:06.06 People being at the docks there in the city waiting for 00:10:06.06\00:10:11.10 security people and we got out. 00:10:11.10\00:10:13.60 God worked everything out amazingly, it was so cool to 00:10:13.60\00:10:18.50 see that in real life like that. 00:10:18.50\00:10:21.40 It was really, really powerful. 00:10:21.40\00:10:24.20 Well the last day of the mission trips, it inter-mission 00:10:26.63\00:10:29.63 trip was the Philippines and the San Pablo Laguna area. 00:10:29.63\00:10:32.96 We were there for almost 2 weeks this past July with 00:10:32.96\00:10:36.23 all these people on my left here and myself. 00:10:36.23\00:10:39.16 While were there we held a medical clinic everyday. 00:10:39.16\00:10:42.66 We held children's ministries and also nightly evangelism 00:10:42.66\00:10:46.70 that culminated in a big baptismal service the last 00:10:46.70\00:10:50.20 Sabbath we were there. 00:10:50.20\00:10:52.00 Carlos was there on the trip with us, and Carlos walk us 00:10:52.00\00:10:54.33 through a typical day on the trip. 00:10:54.33\00:10:56.43 Well Katie a want to say that I have done my share of 00:10:56.43\00:10:59.63 mission trips, but this is hands down the best mission 00:10:59.63\00:11:02.76 trip I have ever been on in my life. 00:11:02.76\00:11:04.76 Chiefly because we combined the right arm of the Gospel 00:11:04.76\00:11:07.93 with preaching the gospel as well. 00:11:07.93\00:11:11.80 So in a day we will wake up early in the morning and 00:11:11.80\00:11:15.00 have a breakfast and immediately formulate our game plan 00:11:15.00\00:11:18.43 some of us were care providers and preachers, others were 00:11:18.43\00:11:21.80 just preachers. 00:11:21.80\00:11:23.33 I want to say that nobody had preaching experience, 00:11:23.33\00:11:27.56 specially not in evangelism series, so all of us 00:11:27.56\00:11:31.73 were very, very scared. 00:11:31.73\00:11:33.80 We would go to a particular church, one of the 12 we 00:11:33.80\00:11:37.36 were preaching at, provide care for the members and the 00:11:37.36\00:11:40.56 visitors there, invited them to the meetings in the evening 00:11:40.56\00:11:43.90 and then in the afternoon we would go do visitations to 00:11:43.90\00:11:47.20 the particular members. 00:11:47.20\00:11:49.00 We would draw those visitors and the patients into the 00:11:49.00\00:11:53.43 report and in the evening we would deliver our message 00:11:53.43\00:11:57.20 which was the Revelation of Hope, a Mark Finlay series 00:11:57.20\00:12:00.90 that anyone could use. 00:12:00.90\00:12:02.76 It was definitely busy but we were all 00:12:02.76\00:12:05.06 definitely blessed. 00:12:05.06\00:12:06.76 I'm sure I can speak in behalf of all the people up here. 00:12:06.76\00:12:09.60 Carlos was there something specific that impacted your 00:12:09.60\00:12:12.36 life from this trip? 00:12:12.36\00:12:14.10 Well I was baptized at the age of 11 and I don't see 00:12:14.10\00:12:19.00 anything wrong with that, for the age I had the 00:12:19.00\00:12:20.96 knowledge I needed to accept Jesus Christ 00:12:20.96\00:12:22.63 into my heart. 00:12:22.63\00:12:23.93 But after preaching two weeks, I thought with as busy 00:12:23.93\00:12:26.80 as our schedule was there was no way I was going to 00:12:26.80\00:12:29.60 be able to reach any of these people. 00:12:29.60\00:12:31.33 But on the night of baptism the whole church came forward 00:12:31.33\00:12:34.80 one night when I made my appeal. 00:12:34.80\00:12:36.53 I got all emotional, I didn't want them to make an 00:12:36.53\00:12:38.66 emotional decision but I couldn't help it. 00:12:38.66\00:12:41.16 That's Sabbath when the church members went into the 00:12:41.16\00:12:44.73 waters for baptism I decided to rededicate my life 00:12:44.73\00:12:48.26 through baptism as well. 00:12:48.26\00:12:50.00 I just felt the Spirit was calling me to do so. 00:12:50.00\00:12:53.60 You know over seas evangelism, there is something special 00:12:53.60\00:12:57.40 about it, evangelism is good here in the states but 00:12:57.40\00:13:00.06 overseas there is just a little extra something special. 00:13:00.06\00:13:03.16 It makes it so much more of a blessing. 00:13:03.16\00:13:06.00 Mellow you helped us out with our children's program. 00:13:06.00\00:13:08.80 Tell us a little about what we did for the children 00:13:08.80\00:13:11.40 and something special you have to share for us. 00:13:11.40\00:13:16.26 I thought I would only be helping out with medical 00:13:16.26\00:13:21.10 mission but I had to do a lot more there 00:13:21.10\00:13:23.30 when I got there. 00:13:23.30\00:13:24.66 In the Philippines we were asked, a few of us were asked 00:13:24.66\00:13:27.90 to be speakers at one of their weeks of prayers. 00:13:27.90\00:13:32.30 In the Philippines we usually have a week of prayer one 00:13:32.30\00:13:33.90 or two times every school year. 00:13:33.90\00:13:36.50 So we were invited to do that, and three or four of us 00:13:36.50\00:13:39.03 were speakers, I can't remember. 00:13:39.03\00:13:41.20 Then it isn't really a good way to evangelize the 00:13:41.20\00:13:43.80 students that were not Seventh-day Adventist 00:13:43.80\00:13:46.53 attending Adventist school. 00:13:46.53\00:13:49.10 It was way for them to be evangelized and to hear 00:13:49.10\00:13:52.16 about the word of God. 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.80 Also I believe, I personally believe, that for every 00:13:53.80\00:13:57.40 evangelistic series we did, it is a must that we also 00:13:57.40\00:14:01.00 have a program for the children. 00:14:01.00\00:14:02.90 So that is exactly what we did in the Philippines. 00:14:02.90\00:14:06.30 Every church we were designated to we would have 00:14:06.30\00:14:09.66 programs for children. 00:14:09.66\00:14:11.40 What I notice is that the children were the most sincere 00:14:11.40\00:14:15.23 they were the avid attendees through evangelism. 00:14:15.23\00:14:19.16 These were the ones that were inviting the adults to 00:14:19.16\00:14:23.06 come in and join our series. 00:14:23.06\00:14:25.16 So at the end of our evangelistic series, my Church 00:14:25.16\00:14:28.90 that I was designated to, we were able to baptize 7 00:14:28.90\00:14:32.60 teenagers because of that. 00:14:32.60\00:14:34.73 Now GYC this is a chance for you to get involved. 00:14:38.03\00:14:40.90 Tonight on your seats when you came in, you should have 00:14:40.90\00:14:44.26 had a survey that we want you to look for right now and 00:14:44.26\00:14:47.76 fill it out, like Audrey said in the beginning this was a 00:14:47.76\00:14:50.63 pilot program and we want to know if we should continue 00:14:50.63\00:14:53.60 this, if this is something you would be interested in, 00:14:53.60\00:14:56.63 if you could help us support, if you can help us attend, 00:14:56.63\00:14:59.60 we know there are lots of talented people in our GYC 00:14:59.60\00:15:02.50 audience and we want to hear from you. 00:15:02.50\00:15:04.56 Also for those of us that are watching on line via 00:15:04.56\00:15:08.70 www. GYCweb. org on 3ABN, you can log online and fill out 00:15:08.70\00:15:15.46 the survey our front page. That is WWW.GYCweb. org. 00:15:15.46\00:15:20.86 We want to hear from you, so please fill out the survey 00:15:20.86\00:15:23.73 and let us know if we should continue this. 00:15:23.73\00:15:25.96 If this is something that you are interested in. 00:15:25.96\00:15:28.10 If this is something you would like us to continue we 00:15:28.10\00:15:30.50 need to hear it from you. 00:15:30.50\00:15:32.36 Thank you so much. 00:15:32.36\00:15:33.83 Modern views of evolution stem all way back to theories 00:15:38.60\00:15:41.50 developed in the mid-1800s. 00:15:41.50\00:15:43.60 Out of the same time period came ideas that shaped our 00:15:43.60\00:15:47.46 educational system today. 00:15:47.46\00:15:49.90 The common school movement for example, saw schools 00:15:49.90\00:15:53.53 more like a factory with students blindly memorizing 00:15:53.53\00:15:56.46 instruction rather than thinking for themselves. 00:15:56.46\00:15:59.33 Their curriculum was rigid and theoretical instead of being 00:15:59.33\00:16:03.60 flexible and practical. 00:16:03.60\00:16:05.80 It was designed to conform the individual into a specific 00:16:05.80\00:16:09.13 ideological mold that fit the needs of an old 00:16:09.13\00:16:12.03 industrial era that has long since passed. 00:16:12.03\00:16:14.86 Just like our view of creation in six literal days, 00:16:14.86\00:16:19.16 we believe the Bible contains an educational blueprint 00:16:19.16\00:16:23.40 radically different from the one we see now. 00:16:23.40\00:16:25.93 Good evening once again. 00:16:38.53\00:16:40.36 I have two friends up here with me that I would like to 00:16:40.36\00:16:42.56 introduce, Dr. Nedley and Dr. Siebold. 00:16:42.56\00:16:44.73 You saw in the video little bit ago about Weimer. 00:16:44.73\00:16:47.10 A question that always intrigues me is 00:16:47.10\00:16:50.06 what motivates people? 00:16:50.06\00:16:52.43 You went to Weimar and we heard about it last year, 00:16:52.43\00:16:55.50 why do you even go there? 00:16:55.50\00:16:57.16 Well the last work to be done along ministerial lines 00:16:57.16\00:17:01.53 is medical missionary work. 00:17:01.53\00:17:03.80 One of the last conferences that Ellen White was at, 00:17:03.80\00:17:07.43 she said to a successful pastor, have you done medical 00:17:07.43\00:17:11.23 missionary work, have you tried to heal soul and body, 00:17:11.23\00:17:15.03 you would have seen hundreds and thousands coming 00:17:15.03\00:17:17.46 into the truth. 00:17:17.46\00:17:19.00 And Weimar is particularly positioned for people to 00:17:19.00\00:17:22.26 come and not only do Pastorial training, to be 00:17:22.26\00:17:24.83 successful as a pastor, but to have live patients come 00:17:24.83\00:17:27.86 from all over the world, Christian and non-Christian, 00:17:27.86\00:17:30.50 who do not know the full message of the Bible and would 00:17:30.50\00:17:33.13 be introduced to the Savior. 00:17:33.13\00:17:34.86 They learn how to do that at Weimar, how to do medical 00:17:34.86\00:17:37.70 missionary work as part of the Pastorial training. 00:17:37.70\00:17:40.50 So they can be successful for God right up 00:17:40.50\00:17:43.26 until the very end. 00:17:43.26\00:17:45.70 So if you go to Weimar, you could get some training, 00:17:45.70\00:17:49.20 it could be health, it could be other things. 00:17:49.20\00:17:51.83 Last year we learned about this ambiguous vague college 00:17:51.83\00:17:55.86 that was going to start and I wonder Dr. Siebold. 00:17:55.86\00:17:58.70 It has started now, what's going on there? 00:17:58.70\00:18:01.90 Well we have worked real hard at trying to figure out 00:18:01.90\00:18:05.96 how to organize all of this. 00:18:05.96\00:18:08.23 What we have done is put it under what we call the 00:18:08.23\00:18:10.40 "Core of Four", it has four pieces to it. 00:18:10.40\00:18:13.66 The first one personally evangelism. 00:18:13.66\00:18:16.43 We have every faculty member, every student involved 00:18:16.43\00:18:19.43 in soul winning activities. 00:18:19.43\00:18:21.70 We want that to pervade the whole environment. 00:18:21.70\00:18:24.63 The second one of course is academic excellence 00:18:24.63\00:18:27.53 is what we do. 00:18:27.53\00:18:28.90 There's two real critical pieces to this, one is that 00:18:28.90\00:18:32.56 we have faculty members that are top-notch. 00:18:32.56\00:18:35.96 They are academically qualified and they are spiritually 00:18:35.96\00:18:39.50 committed, and second of all, you make your classes 00:18:39.50\00:18:43.20 involved in knowing God. 00:18:43.20\00:18:45.23 The content is about revealing who God is. 00:18:45.23\00:18:47.70 Another piece, the third piece, is dynamic health. 00:18:47.70\00:18:51.86 We want health to permeate the whole campus, and not 00:18:51.86\00:18:56.03 just physical health, but emotional health. 00:18:56.03\00:18:59.23 EQ is very involved in predicting success in life, 00:18:59.23\00:19:04.10 much more so even than IQ. 00:19:04.10\00:19:05.83 The fourth one is practical training, making sure the 00:19:05.83\00:19:09.80 physical labor, we have faculty members going out side 00:19:09.80\00:19:13.70 by side with the students and are working in the fields, 00:19:13.70\00:19:17.60 in the garden and everything. 00:19:17.60\00:19:19.00 What do you think? Does this sound intriguing? 00:19:19.00\00:19:23.06 Personal evangelism, academic excellence, dynamic health 00:19:23.06\00:19:27.63 and practical training. 00:19:27.63\00:19:29.36 I remember going out to an initial strategy meeting, 00:19:29.36\00:19:32.83 if you will, out at Weimar and a little piece of me 00:19:32.83\00:19:35.80 thought to myself, I wish I was still in college. 00:19:35.80\00:19:39.93 Now I'm not, but some out here, or are turning in our 00:19:39.93\00:19:43.66 still in a collegiate stage, maybe about to start. 00:19:43.66\00:19:47.33 If they wanted to know more about Weimar, 00:19:47.33\00:19:49.26 what should they do? 00:19:49.26\00:19:50.40 You can go to www. Weimar. edu is a great way. 00:19:50.40\00:19:53.40 But one final quote is from Ellen White where she said, 00:19:53.40\00:19:57.16 if you are a Christian and a competent physician, you 00:19:57.16\00:20:00.50 are qualified to do ten-fold more good for the work of 00:20:00.50\00:20:03.80 God then you if you go forth merely as a preacher 00:20:03.80\00:20:06.60 of the Word. 00:20:06.60\00:20:07.86 So we are not only training pastors, we have a great 00:20:07.86\00:20:10.36 pre-med program, pre-dent, pre-nursing, and the health 00:20:10.36\00:20:13.50 line is there so that the individual can not only learn 00:20:13.50\00:20:16.56 the top nutrition cutting edge lifestyle research, but 00:20:16.56\00:20:19.60 also how to win souls for the Master for the 00:20:19.60\00:20:22.96 rest of their life. 00:20:22.96\00:20:24.16 Thank you very much, we will be sure to check it out. 00:20:24.16\00:20:25.70 Next we have another friend coming out. 00:20:28.46\00:20:30.43 Elder Bill Knott, you might know him, you might not. 00:20:30.43\00:20:36.70 I wasn't planning that, but we spoke initially at ASI. 00:20:36.70\00:20:43.03 You were telling me about a magazine, it is about 160 00:20:43.03\00:20:49.33 years old, it's a publication from our church. 00:20:49.33\00:20:52.73 Now my question is this, its the Adventist Review, 00:20:52.73\00:20:56.10 everyone has probably heard of it. 00:20:56.10\00:20:58.36 Knowing that is 160 years old, how in the world can we 00:20:58.36\00:21:02.76 relate to something like that? 00:21:02.76\00:21:04.40 Well Justin, truth never goes out of style. 00:21:04.40\00:21:07.06 In fact the Adventist Review, founded by young adults, 00:21:07.06\00:21:11.43 160 years ago has been about the truth, the Sabbath, 00:21:11.43\00:21:16.10 the sanctuary, three Angels message, our belief in soon 00:21:16.10\00:21:19.60 coming of Jesus, we have been about that for a very long 00:21:19.60\00:21:23.06 time and we are still about that. 00:21:23.06\00:21:25.10 We are still committed to exactly those same principles, 00:21:25.10\00:21:27.56 those same beliefs in the life of the Adventist church. 00:21:27.56\00:21:30.60 Praise the Lord, I like that, the truth - say that again? 00:21:30.60\00:21:33.60 The truth never goes out of style. 00:21:33.60\00:21:35.23 The truth never goes out of style! 00:21:35.23\00:21:36.80 Now you recently ran an article on GYC. 00:21:36.80\00:21:40.30 I am particularly interested in GYC so I would be 00:21:40.30\00:21:43.63 interested to know, why run a story on GYC? 00:21:43.63\00:21:46.50 It happens to be the one that is in that edition sitting 00:21:46.50\00:21:48.80 on your chairs this evening. 00:21:48.80\00:21:50.46 There is a five page article, interview with the general 00:21:50.46\00:21:53.00 Vice President, Justin Kim. 00:21:53.00\00:21:54.53 We decided to do this article because I as a father 00:21:54.53\00:21:57.80 began to understand what GYC could do in the life 00:21:57.80\00:22:01.03 a young person. 00:22:01.03\00:22:02.60 My 16-year-old went to San Jose last year and when he 00:22:02.60\00:22:05.26 came back and told me his story, I said I have to learn 00:22:05.26\00:22:07.93 more than I know right now. 00:22:07.93\00:22:10.03 In that process of learning, I learned about an 00:22:10.03\00:22:12.06 organization that I am proud to feature in our magazine. 00:22:12.06\00:22:15.30 Praise the Lord! 00:22:15.30\00:22:16.66 So your son came, I'm guessing he went on the 00:22:16.66\00:22:19.03 evangelistic outreach, much like we did today. 00:22:19.03\00:22:21.33 He was excited and came back and you said, I have to be 00:22:21.33\00:22:23.76 a part of this? 00:22:23.76\00:22:25.20 I began talking with people around who said, 00:22:25.20\00:22:27.26 Bill you have been missing a lot on not being 00:22:27.26\00:22:29.26 at the GYC conferences. 00:22:29.26\00:22:31.10 And there's always travel and are itinerary schedules 00:22:31.10\00:22:33.70 that took me other places, but when I realized we had 00:22:33.70\00:22:36.63 the opportunity to partner with GYC, to show what the 00:22:36.63\00:22:39.50 Adventist Review has always cared about is the same 00:22:39.50\00:22:42.30 mission and passion of this organization. 00:22:42.30\00:22:45.00 I knew it was a natural that we would be together 00:22:45.00\00:22:46.76 this year. Praise the Lord! 00:22:46.76\00:22:48.63 Let me ask another question. 00:22:48.63\00:22:50.43 My wife and I currently do not have a subscription to 00:22:50.43\00:22:53.30 the Review and we would like that, but since I've met you 00:22:53.30\00:22:57.03 close friends of ours have it and we get to page through 00:22:57.03\00:23:00.76 it, I've been particularly interested in it. 00:23:00.76\00:23:03.40 It's probably most of us, to be honest, that haven't even 00:23:03.40\00:23:07.50 opened the Review unfortunately. 00:23:07.50\00:23:10.36 What are we going to find when we do open it? 00:23:10.36\00:23:12.56 Well a quick way to learn, is to go to 00:23:12.56\00:23:15.00 www. Thank you! 00:24:55.00\00:24:56.56 Good morning, we are here because we are not ashamed 00:24:57.83\00:25:01.46 to be counted among God's people. 00:25:01.46\00:25:04.43 We are not ashamed to tell people about our Savior. 00:25:04.43\00:25:09.43 Jay, have you always been eager to tell people 00:25:09.43\00:25:17.10 about Jesus? 00:25:17.10\00:25:18.90 I wish I could say yes to that question, but the answer 00:25:18.90\00:25:22.93 to that is no. 00:25:22.93\00:25:24.53 Why not? Well probably right after I was baptized. 00:25:24.53\00:25:28.90 So you have not always been a Christian? 00:25:28.90\00:25:32.33 No I haven't always been a Christian. 00:25:32.33\00:25:35.70 I was baptized in the late summer of 1999, August 7. 00:25:35.70\00:25:39.86 School was obviously not in session so I was baptized 00:25:39.86\00:25:44.00 during the summer while school wasn't going on. 00:25:44.00\00:25:46.06 A month later I had to go back to school. 00:25:46.06\00:25:49.10 That school was? West high, it was a public school. 00:25:49.10\00:25:55.40 A high school, you left high school serving yourself. 00:25:55.40\00:26:00.80 Exactly! Now you come back to high school and you have 00:26:00.80\00:26:06.16 a new Master, how did that work out? 00:26:06.16\00:26:08.46 It was a challenge because a lot of my friends didn't 00:26:08.46\00:26:12.23 know about the fact during the summer I had this 00:26:12.23\00:26:15.00 transforming experience. 00:26:15.00\00:26:17.03 I was baptized and they had no idea, 00:26:17.03\00:26:19.56 so when I went back to school everyone was like, 00:26:19.56\00:26:21.90 yo! Jay, how's things going? 00:26:21.90\00:26:23.26 Oh no, how do I bring this experience I had during the 00:26:23.26\00:26:27.56 summer, into my classroom experience? 00:26:27.56\00:26:30.40 You're not ashamed but you don't know how to do it 00:26:30.40\00:26:32.66 either? Exactly, so many times we were next to my locker 00:26:32.66\00:26:36.53 which is the spot we always hung out, I just didn't know 00:26:36.53\00:26:40.33 what to do. 00:26:40.33\00:26:41.40 They would say dirty jokes and everybody would laugh. 00:26:41.40\00:26:45.36 I'm like, do I laugh, do I act very cold, it was a big 00:26:45.36\00:26:48.73 challenge to know how to relate with my old friends in 00:26:48.73\00:26:52.06 light of my new experience with God. 00:26:52.06\00:26:54.63 Did you wear a sign, I'm now a Christian? Yes! 00:26:54.63\00:26:58.20 You did! Yes finally I was a little bit different and 00:26:58.20\00:27:03.00 I didn't curse anymore, so they really was wondering, 00:27:03.00\00:27:07.80 Jay is acting very, very weird. 00:27:07.80\00:27:09.50 What is the deal with Jay? 00:27:09.50\00:27:10.86 So a few of them started talking with me and then they 00:27:10.86\00:27:13.80 kind of forced it out of me. 00:27:13.80\00:27:15.90 I was trying to be very private about my new experience 00:27:15.90\00:27:18.70 with God and they were asking me questions. 00:27:18.70\00:27:21.20 I told them what had happened, but the biggest 00:27:21.20\00:27:23.66 experience that led them to ask questions was, I was 00:27:23.66\00:27:28.66 really convicted, as a new Christian in high school, to 00:27:28.66\00:27:33.63 bring my Bible to school. 00:27:33.63\00:27:35.03 You brought your Bible into school, into the high school? 00:27:35.03\00:27:38.30 Yeah I know that was wild, it sounds crazy. 00:27:38.30\00:27:39.70 So we had a class in our homeroom class, called reading 00:27:39.70\00:27:43.23 class, basically it's just 45 minutes of random reading. 00:27:43.23\00:27:46.33 Some read Sports Illustrated, people brought comic books, 00:27:46.33\00:27:49.43 I felt very convicted to bring my Bible. 00:27:49.43\00:27:52.30 I wrestled with the Holy Spirit for a while, but I 00:27:52.30\00:27:54.56 couldn't resist so I brought my Bible to school. 00:27:54.56\00:27:56.80 I have to confess, I put it in my backpack and before 00:27:56.80\00:27:59.20 taking it out I would look over my shoulders a few 00:27:59.20\00:28:01.60 times to make sure people weren't looking. 00:28:01.60\00:28:04.46 When I took out my Bible and started to read, I just 00:28:04.46\00:28:07.60 wanted to make sure nobody knew I was reading a Bible. 00:28:07.60\00:28:12.30 Now tell me about this Bible business, when people were 00:28:12.30\00:28:17.00 watching you read your Bible, what did they say? 00:28:17.00\00:28:19.93 Well I noticed, I was sitting in the front row, 00:28:19.93\00:28:22.80 I noticed when I was reading my Bible I could hear whispers 00:28:22.80\00:28:26.73 behind me, it was sk, sk, sk, he's reading a 00:28:26.73\00:28:29.10 Bible, sk, sk,sk, and I was like oh no. 00:28:29.10\00:28:31.36 I felt uncomfortable and didn't know what to do. 00:28:31.36\00:28:33.30 So when the reading class was over I will close my Bible 00:28:33.30\00:28:36.46 and put it into my backpack and walked to my next class 00:28:36.46\00:28:39.56 as if nothing happened. 00:28:39.56\00:28:41.10 One particular time as I was walking to my locker room, 00:28:41.10\00:28:45.33 to put my Bible into my locker, one of my friends caught 00:28:45.33\00:28:49.13 me, he saw me putting my Bible into a locker, my locker 00:28:49.13\00:28:52.93 room and he said, Jay, what is that? 00:28:52.93\00:28:55.33 He didn't know what a Bible was? 00:28:55.33\00:28:58.73 He knew what a Bible was but he wanted to make sure that 00:28:58.73\00:29:01.43 this was the real thing. 00:29:01.43\00:29:03.16 It was like Jay, is this really a Bible you are reading 00:29:03.16\00:29:05.36 and putting into your locker? 00:29:05.36\00:29:07.10 So I just said what, what are you talking about? 00:29:07.10\00:29:10.16 So I pointed it different items in my locker trying to 00:29:10.16\00:29:12.16 avoid the situation, I know, I was very ashamed. 00:29:12.16\00:29:15.40 So I finally told him it's a Bible. 00:29:15.40\00:29:18.66 He said, a Bible, why in the world are you bringing a 00:29:18.66\00:29:20.73 Bible to school? 00:29:20.73\00:29:22.00 I said, do you remember I told you that I had this 00:29:22.00\00:29:24.30 experience with God and I'm religious now, that was 00:29:24.30\00:29:26.30 the word I used religious because I did know what 00:29:26.30\00:29:28.30 to say to him. 00:29:28.30\00:29:29.73 He was like wow this is interesting and that pretty much 00:29:29.73\00:29:32.70 was the end of the conversation. 00:29:32.70\00:29:35.43 To my utter amazement, the next day my friend Mike, 00:29:35.43\00:29:39.36 the one who was asking me all these questions. 00:29:39.36\00:29:41.36 In the morning I went to my locker room, a normal day. 00:29:41.36\00:29:45.20 I open my locker and got my math book and etc. 00:29:45.20\00:29:47.20 I notice that Michael was walking toward my locker. 00:29:47.20\00:29:50.23 I look at Mike and in his hand he had a Bible. 00:29:50.23\00:29:54.43 Now Mike, I mean he was anything but a Christian. 00:29:54.43\00:29:58.63 Okay, to say the least. 00:29:58.63\00:30:00.20 I'm thinking to myself, and no this cannot be. 00:30:00.20\00:30:02.23 I'm like, Mike what do you have in your hand? 00:30:02.23\00:30:04.30 Now I was asking him a question, what do you have 00:30:04.30\00:30:06.36 in your hands? 00:30:06.36\00:30:07.83 He's like, I have a Bible. 00:30:07.83\00:30:09.70 I'm like, Mike why are you bringing your Bible to school? 00:30:09.70\00:30:11.63 He said, I don't know I figured we were raised in a 00:30:11.63\00:30:14.86 Catholic Church, I have a Bible I've had all my life, 00:30:14.86\00:30:17.50 I have never read it before and you are a good friend 00:30:17.50\00:30:20.40 of mine and normal so bring your Bible to school. 00:30:20.40\00:30:23.26 I figured I should bring my Bible school. 00:30:23.26\00:30:25.50 So it was amazing and we started talking. 00:30:25.50\00:30:27.70 He started asking about what I believe and I started 00:30:27.70\00:30:30.30 telling him about our doctrines, the second coming of 00:30:30.30\00:30:32.86 Christ, and etc. 00:30:32.86\00:30:34.20 Miraculously that conversation led us to start having 00:30:34.20\00:30:39.33 Bible studies in the high school library. 00:30:39.33\00:30:41.10 It started with two people and then went to four. 00:30:41.10\00:30:44.43 It went up and then it went down again. 00:30:44.43\00:30:46.10 Some people said this guy is weird and I don't want to 00:30:46.10\00:30:48.13 be involved with this Bible study. 00:30:48.13\00:30:49.70 So lot people left, but two of my best friends 00:30:49.70\00:30:52.40 consistently stayed by and kept having Bible studies 00:30:52.40\00:30:55.70 with me, Sean and Mike. 00:30:55.70\00:30:57.40 We kept talking about the Lord and kept studying the 00:30:57.40\00:31:00.36 Bible, they had questions galore and I was able to 00:31:00.36\00:31:03.13 leave the Great Controversy with my friend Mike. 00:31:03.13\00:31:05.83 I lost touch with him and have no idea where he is at. 00:31:05.83\00:31:08.76 But I trust those seeds that were planted are going to 00:31:08.76\00:31:11.56 bear fruit to the glory of God and I would like to 00:31:11.56\00:31:14.30 entertain the idea that I will see Mike and Sean in the 00:31:14.30\00:31:17.23 kingdom and maybe they can trace their conversion to 00:31:17.23\00:31:20.13 that experience we had in high school. 00:31:20.13\00:31:22.00 How many people at the most, did you have at your Bible 00:31:22.00\00:31:24.26 studies? About 11 at the most. 00:31:24.26\00:31:27.20 Did you lead out in the Bible study? 00:31:27.20\00:31:28.90 I led out thanks to the Amazing Facts study guide 00:31:28.90\00:31:31.80 as well because I had no idea what I was doing. 00:31:31.80\00:31:34.63 I didn't even know how to give a Bible study, so I went 00:31:34.63\00:31:36.66 through the Amazing Facts study guides. 00:31:36.66\00:31:38.36 It was uncomfortable, because in the library people 00:31:38.36\00:31:41.20 are surfing the net, and reading stuff, and re-searching 00:31:41.20\00:31:43.46 for their projects, and here we are reading the Bible. 00:31:43.46\00:31:45.93 I was trying to whisper at first so nobody knew we were 00:31:45.93\00:31:48.43 talking about the Bible, that the Lord really taught 00:31:48.43\00:31:50.90 me that we have nothing to be ashamed. 00:31:50.90\00:31:53.90 Young people who are even outside of the church are 00:31:53.90\00:31:57.00 craving for the things we know. 00:31:57.00\00:31:58.90 In the process of being unashamed, I realized wait 00:31:58.90\00:32:01.36 a second, I have nothing to be ashamed about. 00:32:01.36\00:32:03.53 All my friends are asking all these questions and 00:32:03.53\00:32:05.70 by the grace of God I know the answers. 00:32:05.70\00:32:08.20 So I praise God that He was merciful and He was patient 00:32:08.20\00:32:11.70 with my unashameness and taught me I have nothing 00:32:11.70\00:32:14.83 to be ashamed of. 00:32:14.83\00:32:16.10 Now you are a preacher. 00:32:16.10\00:32:17.46 And now I am a preacher, yes. 00:32:17.46\00:32:20.03 And you too. 00:32:20.03\00:32:21.70 I do work in full-time evangelism, yes. 00:32:21.70\00:32:23.90 Is that what you always wanted to do? 00:32:23.90\00:32:26.10 No, that was never my plan. 00:32:26.10\00:32:28.36 So how come you are into it then? 00:32:28.36\00:32:31.36 Well when the Lord calls, He is persistent. 00:32:31.36\00:32:34.66 I always had this plan of what I wanted to do with my 00:32:34.66\00:32:36.93 life and God radically changed that. 00:32:36.93\00:32:39.96 I was raised in the church but didn't know what I 00:32:39.96\00:32:43.30 believe and the Lord threw me into sharing my faith 00:32:43.30\00:32:46.60 in order to help me be grounded in it. 00:32:46.60\00:32:48.90 So I didn't even know how to teach somebody about 00:32:48.90\00:32:51.33 anything, the Sabbath, the state of the dead, I didn't 00:32:51.33\00:32:54.03 know how to show you, but the Lord brought me to reach 00:32:54.03\00:32:56.70 out to the people to ground me what I believe. 00:32:56.70\00:32:59.60 Have you had a chance to share your faith with other people? 00:32:59.60\00:33:02.93 I have, one experience was a pivotal point 00:33:02.93\00:33:07.80 in my ministry. 00:33:07.80\00:33:09.06 I have shared this story before but it was my first 00:33:09.06\00:33:12.06 time doing Bible work in Texas. 00:33:12.06\00:33:14.20 I was still wondering, is this really what God 00:33:14.20\00:33:17.70 is calling me to. 00:33:17.70\00:33:18.90 This is kind of crazy, God can't really use me. 00:33:18.90\00:33:20.76 I do not know what I'm doing. 00:33:20.76\00:33:22.76 I was knocking on doors... 00:33:22.76\00:33:24.70 See all these people? Yes! They've all felt that way. 00:33:24.70\00:33:28.70 Me too! Definitely I do. 00:36:26.66\00:36:29.26 What about the person standing next to you, do you think 00:36:29.26\00:36:32.20 God could use that person? 00:36:32.20\00:36:33.93 God has used her in radical ways. 00:36:33.93\00:36:35.86 Do you think it would be okay to ask her question or two? 00:36:35.86\00:36:39.80 Yes, please do, no please do I would like to hear it. 00:36:39.80\00:36:43.66 So have you always been a Christian? 00:36:43.66\00:36:47.53 I guess so, I guess you could say that. 00:36:47.53\00:36:51.33 I was not always raised Adventist, but my dad remarried 00:36:51.33\00:36:55.03 my stepmom who is in Adventist when I was eight. 00:36:55.03\00:36:58.16 So I started going to church then. 00:36:58.16\00:36:59.70 When you were eight, not when she was eight? 00:36:59.70\00:37:02.36 When I was eight, but I was always a Christian. 00:37:02.36\00:37:05.00 So are you in school? Yes! 00:37:05.00\00:37:09.50 Where are you in school? I started going to Sierra 00:37:09.50\00:37:12.60 College, a community college next to where I live. 00:37:12.60\00:37:15.63 After finishing high school, that was my 00:37:15.63\00:37:19.53 first year there. 00:37:19.53\00:37:20.83 That year God really put a burden on my heart to start 00:37:20.83\00:37:23.86 a campus ministry, but I didn't give Him a chance to. 00:37:23.86\00:37:26.83 This was a public college? Yes! 00:37:26.83\00:37:28.60 Don't you know that is not supposed to be done? 00:37:28.60\00:37:31.46 Yes! You know it is not supposed to be done? 00:37:31.46\00:37:34.33 Yes! But you chose to do it? 00:37:34.33\00:37:36.23 Yes, well the first semester I didn't have a chance to, 00:37:36.23\00:37:40.03 but God really put a burden on my heart. 00:37:40.03\00:37:41.93 I was walking by one of my classrooms, it wasn't my 00:37:41.93\00:37:45.30 class time but it was one of my classrooms. 00:37:45.30\00:37:47.00 I was listening in and the teacher was totally bashing God, 00:37:47.00\00:37:49.80 it broke my heart and I realized God has a mission 00:37:49.80\00:37:55.23 field here for me. 00:37:55.23\00:37:56.30 He put the burden on my heart, I wasn't able to do 00:37:56.30\00:37:59.20 it that semester though. 00:37:59.20\00:38:00.60 But the next semester you enrolled in different classes? 00:38:00.60\00:38:04.83 Well what happened after that was I went AFCO the 00:38:04.83\00:38:09.66 following semester and then I continued on 00:38:09.66\00:38:11.63 to do Bible work. 00:38:11.63\00:38:13.03 I Bible work for ASI Youth for Jesus and at the end of that 00:38:13.03\00:38:18.16 I started praying that God would show me where He wanted 00:38:18.16\00:38:23.26 need to go, because I wanted to do more Bible work. 00:38:23.26\00:38:25.36 I didn't want to go back to school, I wanted to do something 00:38:25.36\00:38:27.83 exciting with my life. 00:38:27.83\00:38:28.96 I love Bible work, but as a last resort it was too late 00:38:28.96\00:38:31.83 to change plans so I guess I'll go back this year of 00:38:31.83\00:38:34.86 college, but little did I know that God had many Divine 00:38:34.86\00:38:37.90 appointments set up for me. 00:38:37.90\00:38:39.06 I got back there and had a good friend of mine. 00:38:39.06\00:38:43.16 and he had gotten the church, I didn't know that he was going 00:38:43.16\00:38:45.50 to go there, but he had gotten the church behind him to help 00:38:45.50\00:38:47.60 with the ministry there, and I had a plan to do ministry 00:38:47.60\00:38:49.70 there so we got together and started a campus club, 00:38:49.70\00:38:54.06 a Bible study club. 00:38:54.06\00:38:55.90 We had two studies going, probably had about 10 people 00:38:55.90\00:39:00.70 between the two studies on and off. 00:39:00.70\00:39:02.40 That was a blessing. 00:39:02.40\00:39:04.16 And for some reason or other you enrolled in a speech 00:39:04.16\00:39:07.30 class? Yes, a speech class. 00:39:07.30\00:39:09.10 And in speech class, they assign you to give speeches? 00:39:09.10\00:39:15.20 Yes, it was a public speaking class. 00:39:15.20\00:39:18.50 So what did you decide to talk about? 00:39:18.50\00:39:21.73 Well my first speech was an informative speech. 00:39:21.73\00:39:26.30 You are supposed to inform the audience about something? 00:39:26.30\00:39:29.96 Yes it had to be a very informative speech and God laid 00:39:29.96\00:39:33.63 in all my heart again to share Daniel 2. 00:39:33.63\00:39:35.20 She could have inform people what to say when the people 00:39:35.20\00:39:37.53 say no I don't want to accept Jesus. 00:39:37.53\00:39:40.63 But you chose to do what? 00:39:40.63\00:39:44.00 Daniel chapter 2 for my informative speech. 00:39:44.00\00:39:47.13 Wait a minute, this is a public college, and you are 00:39:47.13\00:39:50.56 informing people what Daniel 2 says? 00:39:50.56\00:39:53.80 Yes! Audience: Amen! Amen! 00:39:53.80\00:39:57.36 Have you ever heard of that before? 00:39:57.36\00:39:59.30 I have never heard of that before. 00:39:59.30\00:40:01.76 So what did you do as an encore? 00:40:01.76\00:40:04.10 They knew that I had a consistent speech topic by then, 00:40:04.10\00:40:10.50 and because I had to do a persuasive speech next. 00:40:10.50\00:40:13.40 So from a persuasive speech idea how a seven-day week 00:40:13.40\00:40:16.30 proves the existence of God. Whoa! 00:40:16.30\00:40:18.76 But it was completely a God thing, but we had to do 00:40:18.76\00:40:25.40 impromptu speeches as well. 00:40:25.40\00:40:26.90 An impromptu, so you don't even know what 00:40:26.90\00:40:29.56 you're talking about? 00:40:29.56\00:40:30.80 Did not know what the topic was, you reach your hand 00:40:30.80\00:40:32.50 in a bag and pull things out, things like what you will 00:40:32.50\00:40:35.23 never catch me wearing, and whatever things, soap operas. 00:40:35.23\00:40:37.90 Of all people in the classroom I got faith. 00:40:37.90\00:40:40.06 So that was completely a God thing. 00:40:40.06\00:40:42.20 Whoa, that Angel said let me see who is up there and I'll 00:40:42.20\00:40:47.60 and hand her this one. 00:40:47.60\00:40:48.90 Pretty much and that was a blessing for me because it 00:40:48.90\00:40:53.26 showed me it was what God wants me to do. 00:40:53.26\00:40:55.50 It wasn't just something, should I be sharing this. 00:40:55.50\00:40:58.86 Is it going to push them away. 00:40:58.86\00:41:00.20 Are they even hearing what I'm saying, but God said, 00:41:00.20\00:41:02.66 no I have you here for reason. 00:41:02.66\00:41:04.13 Did you flunk the speech class? No! Praise the Lord. 00:41:04.13\00:41:07.90 I got an A which was good. 00:41:07.90\00:41:09.50 What did the students say about all this? 00:41:09.50\00:41:12.10 I couldn't tell going through it, but by the last speech 00:41:12.10\00:41:16.83 I gave it was a commemorative speech. 00:41:16.83\00:41:19.53 I did a speech on, it was basically an appeal. 00:41:19.53\00:41:26.73 I shared what Christ had done in my life. 00:41:26.73\00:41:29.26 Something I shared with them, which I want to share 00:41:29.26\00:41:33.33 with you guys as well. 00:41:33.33\00:41:34.96 This is part of my speech. 00:41:34.96\00:41:36.53 I said suppose I found the cure for cancer, I love the cure 00:41:36.53\00:41:39.36 so much that I kept to myself and never shared it with 00:41:39.36\00:41:42.30 anyone, would I not then be responsible for each of the 00:41:42.30\00:41:45.03 deaths that I had potential to save, their blood would 00:41:45.03\00:41:47.46 have been on my head because I would have only had to 00:41:47.46\00:41:49.90 open my mouth to keep them from dying. 00:41:49.90\00:41:51.96 So that was something God put on my heart to share with 00:41:51.96\00:41:55.73 people, I was scared out of my mind. 00:41:55.73\00:41:57.90 I was sick to my stomach all that morning, 00:41:57.90\00:42:00.40 so my friends can testify to that. 00:42:00.40\00:42:02.33 I would call them all over and ask them to pray for me. 00:42:02.33\00:42:04.20 But God got me through it. 00:42:04.20\00:42:06.26 How did you feel about it when it was over? 00:42:06.26\00:42:09.60 Relieved, very relieved. 00:42:09.60\00:42:12.33 Would you do it again? Yes! 00:42:12.33\00:42:15.13 Would you recommend it to the people who are here? Yes! 00:42:15.13\00:42:17.46 By God's grace they can do it too. 00:42:17.46\00:42:20.60 We are not ashamed of what we believe. 00:42:20.60\00:42:23.63 Even in a speech class in a public college there is an 00:42:23.63\00:42:29.80 opportunity to explain what Jesus means to us. 00:42:29.80\00:42:34.70 And while you're visiting people in their homes. 00:42:34.70\00:42:39.53 And when we are in high school. 00:42:39.53\00:42:42.86 And wherever you are today, tomorrow and next week. 00:42:42.86\00:42:48.60 Jesus is there ready to help us. 00:42:48.60\00:42:55.23 Everybody that I know of has some fears about witnessing. 00:42:55.23\00:43:04.30 I do, and I have been in this for quite a while. 00:43:04.30\00:43:09.50 I think I'm a little older than you are and I have been 00:43:09.50\00:43:15.00 at it quite a while, but I still get very nervous 00:43:15.00\00:43:20.36 thinking about it. 00:43:20.36\00:43:22.63 I'm not ashamed of Jesus, He has changed my life. 00:43:22.63\00:43:27.10 I'm excited about Him, I worry sometimes about portraying 00:43:27.10\00:43:35.70 Him in the right way. 00:43:35.70\00:43:38.00 All of us have an opportunity to portray Jesus everyday. 00:43:38.00\00:43:45.40 All over this division people are doing that. 00:43:45.40\00:43:49.00 The last year of our, that we just completed, we called 00:43:49.00\00:43:54.90 the year of evangelism and our baptisms went up. 00:43:54.90\00:43:58.76 We are more intentional about talking to people about 00:43:58.76\00:44:04.60 Jesus and we've had young people preach sermons, 00:44:04.60\00:44:08.00 some of them not members of this church. 00:44:08.00\00:44:12.10 Some of them saying, this was a good sermon, now it is 00:44:12.10\00:44:16.00 time for you to accept Jesus and be baptized. 00:44:16.00\00:44:20.10 When no one in the audience moved, the speaker said it 00:44:20.10\00:44:24.40 again, I know this was a good sermon, it is time for you 00:44:24.40\00:44:28.66 to come up to the front. 00:44:28.66\00:44:30.80 When no one moved, the speaker said okay then, I will go 00:44:30.80\00:44:36.13 and stood in front of the platform and said I have 00:44:36.13\00:44:40.96 accepted Jesus, I want to be baptized. 00:44:40.96\00:44:44.76 It is happening all over. 00:44:44.76\00:44:47.40 Marty and I decided to visit a church, a brand-new one. 00:44:47.40\00:44:53.30 We called to see if it would be okay and the lady who 00:44:53.30\00:44:59.16 was doing the church said no! 00:44:59.16\00:45:04.20 I wondered what is the problem with us that we can't 00:45:04.20\00:45:11.16 come to the church? 00:45:11.16\00:45:13.53 Then she told us, the problem with you is you don't 00:45:13.53\00:45:18.53 know how to dress. 00:45:18.53\00:45:20.70 I have been going to church all my life and I wondered 00:45:20.70\00:45:25.50 what is her problem? 00:45:25.50\00:45:27.56 She told us if you come dressed like you normally come 00:45:27.56\00:45:32.76 dressed, you'll scare all my people away because my people 00:45:32.76\00:45:37.90 have an address, and the address is under the bridge. 00:45:37.90\00:45:45.16 Her members live under the bridge, they are dope addicts. 00:45:47.26\00:45:52.26 Well Marty and I talked her into allowing us to come. 00:45:52.26\00:45:56.26 She said I will allow you to come if you promise not to 00:45:56.26\00:46:00.26 wear a suit. 00:46:00.26\00:46:02.16 Well that was a pretty tall order, I took my suit to 00:46:02.16\00:46:06.50 church, I did leave it in the car. 00:46:06.50\00:46:09.06 We went in and helped vacuum the floor because the 00:46:11.20\00:46:13.90 services were being held in a Pizza Hut. 00:46:13.90\00:46:16.26 Or a pizza parlor. 00:46:16.26\00:46:19.06 I greeted somebody when they came in and said, 00:46:19.06\00:46:23.03 how are you doing? 00:46:23.03\00:46:24.06 He said I've been clean all week. 00:46:24.06\00:46:25.50 I realized I was in a different kind of a church, 00:46:25.50\00:46:30.10 a very special place where people were not ashamed at 00:46:30.10\00:46:34.63 all to have a new walk with Jesus. 00:46:34.63\00:46:39.40 We went another day to a church, it looked a look a bit 00:46:39.40\00:46:43.66 unusual, the whole town looked unusual. 00:46:43.66\00:46:46.60 Not a promising town, Shamokin Pennsylvania. 00:46:46.60\00:46:51.80 It's a town where people have been accustomed to working 00:46:51.80\00:46:57.66 in the mines, but now the mines weren't doing well. 00:46:57.66\00:47:01.86 People were moving out, vacant houses and 00:47:01.86\00:47:06.00 vacant stores everywhere. 00:47:06.00\00:47:08.10 We found the right place, we learned the story. 00:47:08.10\00:47:12.73 Two people, only two, went up on top of the mountain 00:47:12.73\00:47:18.23 every day at a certain time and prayed for this town. 00:47:18.23\00:47:23.66 They came off the mountain and the jeweler said, 00:47:27.23\00:47:32.13 why don't you buy our church, our synagogue. 00:47:32.13\00:47:36.30 Well they talked a little bit about it and said, 00:47:36.30\00:47:40.40 how much do you want for that synagogue? 00:47:40.40\00:47:42.43 He said, well you make me an offer. 00:47:42.43\00:47:45.46 They left and prayed about it, and talked about it, 00:47:45.46\00:47:48.96 didn't know what to offer. 00:47:48.96\00:47:50.93 They did know they didn't have any money. 00:47:50.93\00:47:53.30 When the man called them again he said, you haven't 00:47:55.26\00:47:58.20 come up with an offer yet. 00:47:58.20\00:48:00.13 They said no, we don't know what to offer you. 00:48:00.13\00:48:02.90 He said that I will tell you what to offer me. 00:48:02.90\00:48:05.60 Offer me nothing, we want to give our building to you. 00:48:05.60\00:48:11.56 There aren't enough of us to have services any longer. 00:48:11.56\00:48:17.50 So we want you to have it. 00:48:17.50\00:48:20.03 We will take things down that are of our religion. 00:48:20.03\00:48:24.56 For instance, at the front of the church, since we're 00:48:24.56\00:48:29.06 Jewish people, we have the 10 Commandments. 00:48:29.06\00:48:32.33 I don't suppose you want those so we'll take them down. 00:48:32.33\00:48:36.10 And our people said no, we are fine with those. 00:48:36.10\00:48:39.13 The day we went there to church, there were 80 people. 00:48:41.53\00:48:45.76 You can do it too. 00:48:48.03\00:48:50.43 God will work through you, He works through all kinds of 00:48:50.43\00:48:54.80 people, He works through people who are bombastic like 00:48:54.80\00:48:59.13 Peter, who are doubting like Thomas. 00:48:59.13\00:49:02.93 Who are very quiet people, He uses every one of us if 00:49:02.93\00:49:08.50 we are allowing Him to use us. 00:49:08.50\00:49:11.63 If we say today, Lord I'm not ashamed and 00:49:11.63\00:49:17.56 You can use me. 00:49:17.56\00:49:19.56 The God of heaven will come and speak through us. 00:49:19.56\00:49:24.50 Don Mc Lafferty was teaching little kids how to be 00:49:26.80\00:49:29.70 disciples, I mean preschoolers. 00:49:29.70\00:49:36.96 A man watched while one of these little girls was 00:49:36.96\00:49:42.60 talking to her friend. 00:49:42.60\00:49:44.50 He moved a little closer to see how she was doing 00:49:44.50\00:49:47.50 in what she had been taught. 00:49:47.50\00:49:50.03 As he listened, he found out that girl was speaking in 00:49:50.03\00:49:55.46 Spanish and he went back to the mother and said, I don't 00:49:55.46\00:49:59.50 know what is going on with your daughter, but she is 00:49:59.50\00:50:03.50 talking Spanish. 00:50:03.50\00:50:05.73 The mother said not my daughter because she doesn't 00:50:05.73\00:50:08.20 know any Spanish. 00:50:08.20\00:50:10.23 When the little visit was completed and the girl came 00:50:10.23\00:50:14.36 back to where her mother was the man was still there. 00:50:14.36\00:50:18.46 He said, she was talking in Spanish. 00:50:18.46\00:50:21.86 The mother said, were you? 00:50:21.86\00:50:23.96 She said I don't know, I was just telling that friend 00:50:23.96\00:50:27.70 of mine about Jesus. 00:50:27.70\00:50:30.63 Her mother said, well how did you know what to say? 00:50:32.83\00:50:37.43 She said I don't know what I said, Jesus just stuffed 00:50:37.43\00:50:41.40 the words in my mouth and then they came out again. 00:50:41.40\00:50:46.76 If you are willing to be unashamed, the God of heaven 00:50:46.76\00:50:51.03 will stuff the words in and then they will come out in 00:50:51.03\00:50:55.26 the order that He plans for them to come out. 00:50:55.26\00:50:58.20 Today I want to give my life to Jesus again and allow 00:50:58.20\00:51:03.13 Him to work through me to reach others. 00:51:03.13\00:51:08.03
