I was instructed to give an assignment to introduce 00:00:12.56\00:00:16.70 the speaker tonight. 00:00:16.70\00:00:17.86 Our speaker tonight is Justin McNeilus. 00:00:17.86\00:00:20.16 He is someone who needs no formal introduction. 00:00:20.16\00:00:22.53 Rather than go through some rather long diatribe about 00:00:22.53\00:00:25.46 how important, great, and smart, and good-looking 00:00:25.46\00:00:28.76 guy he is, I think he is all those things if I'm allowed 00:00:28.76\00:00:31.43 to say that on national TV. 00:00:31.43\00:00:32.63 I would rather explain why he is speaking tonight. 00:00:32.63\00:00:36.66 Is that okay with all of you? 00:00:36.66\00:00:37.76 The history of social movements have taught us that it 00:00:37.76\00:00:41.36 is near sheer numbers that win nor the charisma of a 00:00:41.36\00:00:45.13 particular leader. 00:00:45.13\00:00:46.50 The logical soundness of an ideology. 00:00:46.50\00:00:48.60 The social or economical context for or anything else 00:00:48.60\00:00:51.36 that is measurable. 00:00:51.36\00:00:52.86 If anything it is the spirit of a collected movement 00:00:52.86\00:00:56.43 that determines the success or failure of it's objectives. 00:00:56.43\00:01:00.80 These factors merely, influence the direction and speed of a 00:01:00.80\00:01:05.13 movement, however it is the individuals level of 00:01:05.13\00:01:07.50 commitment, that is all of you sitting in these chairs, 00:01:07.50\00:01:11.36 your level of commitment determines the success of GYC, 00:01:11.36\00:01:15.20 and not a particular speaker, Amen? 00:01:15.20\00:01:17.36 Your emotional insurance in Jesus Christ determines 00:01:17.36\00:01:21.20 GYC's success and a sense of duty for heaven that 00:01:21.20\00:01:24.26 establishes the spirit and the transmission of 00:01:24.26\00:01:27.30 GYC's interests, simply said, 00:01:27.30\00:01:30.90 whoever is most unashamed wins. 00:01:30.90\00:01:34.43 Nevertheless in a contemporary culture to have an 00:01:34.43\00:01:37.23 absolute belief in anything or anyone is reviled. 00:01:37.23\00:01:40.00 To believe in a purpose is infantile. 00:01:40.00\00:01:42.43 To be believed in ethical lie is to be considered 00:01:42.43\00:01:44.86 fanatical, to be a Christian is to be idiotically 00:01:44.86\00:01:47.50 stupid, to be an Adventist is to be outdated and 00:01:47.50\00:01:50.30 old-fashioned, and to be holy today is considered 00:01:50.30\00:01:53.56 judgmentally unstable and mentally and insane. 00:01:53.56\00:01:57.43 This has resulted in a generation of apathetic loss 00:01:57.43\00:02:01.03 in different an indecisive young people and hopefully 00:02:01.03\00:02:04.60 not you, you sitting here is a reaction to this. 00:02:04.60\00:02:08.86 Passion has degenerated into biological hormones. 00:02:11.30\00:02:13.46 Religion into rhetoric, spirituality into a 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.80 neuropathological condition. 00:02:15.80\00:02:17.40 Believing in nothing with no emotional attachment or 00:02:17.40\00:02:20.66 logical rigor is the ideal to be reached in 00:02:20.66\00:02:23.86 contemporary culture. 00:02:23.86\00:02:25.40 Simply said, whoever is indifferent and bored wins. 00:02:26.70\00:02:30.73 Amidst this context there exist an army of dedicated 00:02:32.56\00:02:36.80 Young people who are fighting against these ideas. 00:02:36.80\00:02:41.00 Stemming from Scripture, there are young people 00:02:43.03\00:02:44.63 within the Seventh-day Adventist Church who yearn 00:02:44.63\00:02:46.66 to demonstrate Nehemiah's leadership. 00:02:46.66\00:02:48.90 Daniel's integrity, Mary's humility, Paul's passion 00:02:48.90\00:02:52.13 for evangelism and Christ's love for God and humanity. 00:02:52.13\00:02:55.30 This is the GYC movement. 00:02:55.30\00:02:57.60 GYC movement continues to seek and galvanize us young 00:02:59.60\00:03:02.36 people, if you are here for the first time, 00:03:02.36\00:03:03.83 get with the program real quick. 00:03:03.83\00:03:06.10 GYC points to the highest cause in 00:03:09.56\00:03:11.80 a young person's life. 00:03:11.80\00:03:13.13 The distinctive message and mission of the Seventh-day 00:03:13.13\00:03:15.63 Adventist Church towards the proclamation of the three 00:03:15.63\00:03:18.10 Angels messages. 00:03:18.10\00:03:20.10 Tonight you will hear the leader of this movement. 00:03:20.10\00:03:23.30 His name is Justin McNeilus. 00:03:23.30\00:03:26.06 He has no other agenda, but for the agenda of Jesus 00:03:26.06\00:03:29.60 Christ and GYC. 00:03:29.60\00:03:31.50 He is one who isn't ashamed of the objectives of this 00:03:31.50\00:03:34.70 organization and is one who is faithfully fulfilled it's 00:03:34.70\00:03:37.86 cause in the past two years. 00:03:37.86\00:03:40.30 It is not by its speaker, nor by charisma, nor by 00:03:40.30\00:03:44.50 theological eloquence, not by power, not by might, 00:03:44.50\00:03:48.66 but by my Spirit says the Lord of hosts. 00:03:48.66\00:03:51.46 This evening my prayer for all of you, my request for 00:03:51.46\00:03:54.56 all of you is, let's pray for the Holy Spirit. 00:03:54.56\00:03:56.76 If you think this conference is horrible, it's your 00:03:56.76\00:04:00.23 fault, you haven't prayed enough for it. 00:04:00.23\00:04:02.03 Let's pray for our speaker, Amen? 00:14:09.80\00:14:14.60 What was it like to take adversity head on? 00:14:16.20\00:14:19.46 What was it like to try to complete the impossible? 00:14:20.40\00:14:23.43 What was it like to walk a day in the shoes of 00:14:24.53\00:14:28.60 William Wilberforce? 00:14:28.60\00:14:30.13 See William had quite an interesting upbringing as 00:14:31.33\00:14:33.43 a child he was always sick. 00:14:33.43\00:14:35.73 He couldn't see well and at a very early age his father 00:14:35.73\00:14:40.10 died, and he kept going from school to school. 00:14:40.10\00:14:43.66 As he started getting into his college years, he really 00:14:43.66\00:14:46.83 gave way to worldly influences. 00:14:46.83\00:14:50.46 He was a frequenter of parties, gambling and things like 00:14:50.46\00:14:53.86 that, and he really had no time for God. 00:14:53.86\00:14:56.36 In fact William was so frustrated with people that 00:14:56.36\00:14:59.76 consider themselves Christians, that he would blast them 00:14:59.76\00:15:02.66 right out loud. 00:15:02.66\00:15:04.30 He went to college and met his best friend William Pick. 00:15:05.80\00:15:08.50 The two of them began to talk about politics. 00:15:08.50\00:15:12.36 They struck an interest in politics and Wilberforce 00:15:12.36\00:15:16.43 actually at the age of 21 was voted into the Parliament 00:15:16.43\00:15:20.50 over in London. 00:15:20.50\00:15:22.20 But it happened about the age 25, William was taking a 00:15:23.20\00:15:28.53 trip into the countryside of Britain and it was reported 00:15:28.53\00:15:33.80 that he began to read his Bible in the 00:15:33.80\00:15:36.66 morning and evening. 00:15:36.66\00:15:38.40 He engrossed himself in the Scripture and at the end of 00:15:39.33\00:15:41.76 that trip he was a born again Christian. 00:15:41.76\00:15:45.16 He got to the end of the trip and the political realm 00:15:46.33\00:15:48.93 was ready to start up again and he thought to himself, 00:15:48.93\00:15:51.50 you know God really can't use a politician. 00:15:51.50\00:15:54.86 There is no point of me going back to the political 00:15:54.86\00:15:58.03 realm, I have got to maybe be a pastor or full time 00:15:58.03\00:16:01.16 Ministry, something like that. 00:16:01.16\00:16:02.80 But William Pick, his best friend stood in for a little 00:16:02.80\00:16:06.03 bit of counseling and the two of them began to think, 00:16:06.03\00:16:09.23 strategize, and dream. 00:16:09.23\00:16:11.80 They thought to themselves, wouldn't it be incredible, 00:16:11.80\00:16:15.90 wouldn't it be neat if we could eliminate slavery? 00:16:15.90\00:16:19.90 You see these two young college age students could see 00:16:20.93\00:16:25.10 something that nobody else could. 00:16:25.10\00:16:27.73 These two young people could envision a Britain and her 00:16:27.73\00:16:32.00 colonies without slavery. 00:16:32.00\00:16:34.63 So they said let's do it. 00:16:34.63\00:16:37.20 We can do it, we must eliminate slavery, we will do it. 00:16:37.20\00:16:41.06 William Wilberforce then unleashed himself upon the 00:16:41.06\00:16:44.90 world, and I would submit to you this. 00:16:44.90\00:16:46.36 The day that William became unashamed about his 00:16:46.36\00:16:50.70 relationship with Christ was the day William was 00:16:50.70\00:16:55.03 unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:16:55.03\00:16:58.56 Did you catch it? 00:16:58.56\00:16:59.80 The day that William was unashamed about his 00:16:59.80\00:17:03.20 relationship with Christ was the day that he was 00:17:03.20\00:17:06.60 unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:17:06.60\00:17:09.13 The two of them thought, strategize, dreamed and got 00:17:09.13\00:17:13.40 ready to rid Britain of slavery. 00:17:13.40\00:17:17.03 So they started telling their inner circle about it. 00:17:17.03\00:17:20.20 What do you think happened? 00:17:20.20\00:17:21.76 They began to laugh at them, William you've got to be 00:17:21.76\00:17:25.30 kidding me, eliminate slavery in Britain it will never, 00:17:25.30\00:17:28.83 never happen, it cannot be done. 00:17:28.83\00:17:30.83 But he refused to hear the word no. 00:17:32.06\00:17:34.00 He went on with his life committed to eliminating 00:17:34.00\00:17:37.53 slavery at all costs. 00:17:37.53\00:17:39.86 Sickness struck William many times, 00:17:39.86\00:17:42.10 but it didn't stop him. 00:17:42.10\00:17:43.93 Family tragedies plagued him, but it didn't stop him. 00:17:43.93\00:17:47.23 Many even threatened his own life, 00:17:47.23\00:17:50.13 but it didn't stop him. 00:17:50.13\00:17:52.80 Now along the way William won quite a few battles. 00:17:52.80\00:17:56.70 He won small wars, if you will, along the way. 00:17:56.70\00:18:00.50 He even wasn't completely committed, he ran a program 00:18:00.50\00:18:05.66 for Sunday missionaries to India. 00:18:05.66\00:18:07.83 He fed the hungry and put in some legislation to rid the 00:18:07.83\00:18:12.56 world of animal cruelty, but he never lost track. 00:18:12.56\00:18:16.90 He never lost sight of his true purpose to eliminate 00:18:16.90\00:18:21.16 slavery from the world of Britain. 00:18:21.16\00:18:23.70 At the age of 73, stricken with the flu, William spoke 00:18:25.00\00:18:29.23 at a town hall meeting. 00:18:29.23\00:18:30.90 His life was wrapping up, but he still wanted to 00:18:30.90\00:18:33.80 eliminate slavery. 00:18:33.80\00:18:35.26 He was still preaching, still teaching, 00:18:35.26\00:18:37.30 still telling others, and then in 1833 the Slavery 00:18:37.30\00:18:42.50 Abolition Act was passed abolishing slavery in most 00:18:42.50\00:18:47.70 of the British Empire's. 00:18:47.70\00:18:50.10 William Wilberforce died three days later. 00:18:50.10\00:18:55.36 So I paused just a moment longer in front of his tomb. 00:18:57.40\00:19:01.33 There etched on his grave site for all the world to 00:19:01.33\00:19:05.20 see for the rest of time were these words. 00:19:05.20\00:19:08.60 His name will ever be especially identified with 00:19:08.60\00:19:12.10 those exertions which by the blessing of God removed 00:19:12.10\00:19:15.56 from England the guilt of African slave trade and 00:19:15.56\00:19:18.63 prepare the way for the abolition of slavery in every 00:19:18.63\00:19:21.66 colony of the Empire. 00:19:21.66\00:19:23.20 The persecution of these objects he relied not in vain, 00:19:23.20\00:19:27.30 but on God. 00:19:27.30\00:19:29.70 In the progress he was called to endure great opposition 00:19:29.70\00:19:34.70 but he however, outlived it all. 00:19:34.70\00:19:38.46 What laid the foundation for the success of 00:19:38.46\00:19:42.16 William Wilberforce? 00:19:42.16\00:19:44.00 You see the day William became unashamed about his 00:19:44.00\00:19:48.16 relationship with Christ, was the day he was unleashed 00:19:48.16\00:19:52.30 for the cause of Christ. 00:19:52.30\00:19:54.40 The day William became unashamed about Christ was the 00:19:54.40\00:19:58.66 day he was unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:19:58.66\00:20:01.76 God is calling for this today. 00:20:01.76\00:20:03.90 He is calling for a generation, a church, a you to 00:20:03.90\00:20:08.66 become so consumed with one single purpose. 00:20:08.66\00:20:12.86 A generation which will unashamedly, in their love 00:20:12.86\00:20:16.90 for Christ be unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:20:16.90\00:20:20.83 A generation which will not just unashamedly proclaim 00:20:21.73\00:20:24.36 the truths of revelation 14 messages, 00:20:24.36\00:20:26.80 but will live them. 00:20:26.80\00:20:28.70 I firmly believe that as this generation does, 00:20:28.70\00:20:32.80 as we do, by the grace of God we can see Jesus 00:20:32.80\00:20:36.83 come again in our generation. 00:20:36.83\00:20:39.53 Do you desire to live a life unashamed? 00:20:41.60\00:20:43.76 A life so consumed with a purpose from the Master that 00:20:43.76\00:20:48.63 no matter what your vocation is. 00:20:48.63\00:20:50.43 You missed it, do you desire to live a life unashamed? 00:20:52.26\00:20:58.26 Audience: amen. 00:20:58.26\00:20:59.63 A live so consumed with one purpose for the Master, 00:20:59.63\00:21:02.90 no matter your occupation? 00:21:02.90\00:21:05.36 You see there is a problem. 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.10 People come to GYC and get inspired, they partake in 00:21:09.10\00:21:12.70 the seminars, they get trained, they get all ready, 00:21:12.70\00:21:16.23 all juiced up and ready to conquer the world. 00:21:16.23\00:21:19.13 But then they leave with this sense of insecurity. 00:21:19.13\00:21:23.03 I'm not in full-time ministry. 00:21:23.03\00:21:25.83 You know it's nice that you come to our conference and 00:21:27.03\00:21:30.16 participated, but if you're not in full-time ministry, 00:21:30.16\00:21:33.26 you are out of the herd. 00:21:33.26\00:21:35.20 So our team deduced we need a theme 00:21:37.03\00:21:39.83 that tackles this head on. 00:21:39.83\00:21:41.43 It's not all the reality that God uses only those in 00:21:41.43\00:21:45.86 full-time ministry for His work. 00:21:45.86\00:21:48.60 The more precise reality is that God wants to use you 00:21:48.60\00:21:52.73 no matter the work you are in. 00:21:52.73\00:21:55.03 Nursing, banking, graphic design, counseling, car sales, 00:21:55.03\00:21:58.83 aviation pilots, students, it does not matter, 00:21:58.83\00:22:02.76 God wants to use you. 00:22:02.76\00:22:04.80 So I ask again, do you desire to live a life unashamed? 00:22:06.10\00:22:10.33 Do you desire to be unleashed for the Masters cause 00:22:10.33\00:22:14.50 no matter your job? 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.26 No matter your occupation? 00:22:16.26\00:22:17.90 No matter your vocation? 00:22:17.90\00:22:19.46 Turn with me in your Bibles to our theme text. 00:22:21.60\00:22:24.90 Romans 1:16. 00:22:26.76\00:22:30.10 The basis of this unsecure feeling that people leave 00:22:33.60\00:22:37.90 with, is the reason we came up with this theme, 00:22:37.90\00:22:40.76 the theme Unashamed. 00:22:40.76\00:22:43.36 Romans 1:16 tonight to me the relevant question is, 00:22:43.36\00:22:47.83 first is how do we get this unashamed lifestyle? 00:22:47.83\00:22:52.30 And secondly, how do we maintain it? 00:22:52.30\00:22:55.60 Romans 1:16, I'm sure there are hundreds of ways we 00:22:55.60\00:22:59.53 could pull out from this, possibilities for this 00:22:59.53\00:23:03.43 unashamed lifestyle. 00:23:03.43\00:23:04.40 But I want to pause for moment on just one. 00:23:04.40\00:23:06.76 We will read it, Romans 1:16. 00:23:06.76\00:23:09.46 "For am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is" 00:23:09.46\00:23:12.36 "the power of God unto salvation to everyone who" 00:23:12.36\00:23:16.00 "believes; to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. " 00:23:16.00\00:23:19.96 In the text we could explore many different things, 00:23:19.96\00:23:23.20 but I just want to point your attention to the word 00:23:23.20\00:23:27.63 "power", it says this power is available to us. 00:23:27.63\00:23:32.03 The same power that created the universe in six literal 00:23:33.40\00:23:37.43 days is available to us. 00:23:37.43\00:23:40.20 When we obtain this power the result is salvation, 00:23:40.20\00:23:44.60 but it doesn't stop there. 00:23:44.60\00:23:46.10 This power is available to others through us. 00:23:46.10\00:23:50.63 Now my key question for tonight. 00:23:50.63\00:23:54.06 How is this relevant to us? 00:23:54.06\00:23:55.90 Where does the rubber meets the road? 00:23:55.90\00:23:58.13 How do we make it applicable to us? 00:23:58.13\00:24:00.30 To do that I want us to study a story found in the New 00:24:00.30\00:24:04.60 Testament, tonight I want to take a look at the 00:24:04.60\00:24:07.80 story of Noah. 00:24:07.80\00:24:09.83 To me there is not a more fitting example in the entire 00:24:09.83\00:24:14.06 Bible than the story of Noah. 00:24:14.06\00:24:17.13 I will tell you why, there are a couple reasons. 00:24:18.86\00:24:21.66 Tonight as I was preparing for the story of Noah, 00:24:21.66\00:24:24.46 Noah kept popping up in my prayers. 00:24:24.46\00:24:26.66 It had to be studied, second, Noah if you look at it, 00:24:26.66\00:24:30.63 you know the end from the beginning. 00:24:30.63\00:24:32.10 You know that Noah was the last of that generation. 00:24:32.10\00:24:35.43 So it would seem to me that it would serve a purpose 00:24:35.43\00:24:38.73 for us to study it. 00:24:38.73\00:24:40.23 Third, can you just step back, just a touch? 00:24:40.23\00:24:45.20 I'm sorry. 00:24:45.20\00:24:47.26 Thanks. 00:24:49.96\00:24:52.50 I'm just not that seasoned of a speaker for that 00:24:54.50\00:24:58.40 kind of distraction. 00:24:58.40\00:25:00.06 Third, Jesus, Himself alludes to the story of Noah. 00:25:00.06\00:25:04.63 It would seem reasonable to me that if Jesus says it, 00:25:04.63\00:25:09.23 we need to study it, can you say Amen? 00:25:09.23\00:25:11.40 Fourth, the story of Noah, indeed the entire book of 00:25:11.40\00:25:16.56 Genesis is under attack. 00:25:16.56\00:25:19.13 People believe them to just be an illusion of a couple stories 00:25:19.13\00:25:23.10 that are fictitious, make-believe. 00:25:23.10\00:25:25.40 Sometimes it's good to meet adversity head-on. 00:25:25.40\00:25:28.30 So tonight we study the book of Genesis, and we study 00:25:28.30\00:25:31.86 specifically the story of Noah. 00:25:31.86\00:25:34.43 Genesis 6:5, turn with me there Genesis 6:5. 00:25:34.43\00:25:40.80 When you get their say Amen! Audience: Amen! 00:25:42.96\00:25:46.30 Genesis 6:5 "and God saw that the wickedness of man was" 00:25:46.30\00:25:51.46 "great in the earth, and that every intent of his heart" 00:25:51.46\00:25:56.63 "was only evil continually. " 00:25:56.63\00:25:59.70 We'll skip down to verse eight. 00:25:59.70\00:26:02.70 "But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. " 00:26:02.70\00:26:06.20 I would like to turn your attention specifically to 00:26:06.20\00:26:09.66 verse eight, God uses the word "but". 00:26:09.66\00:26:13.93 So He is saying listen Noah, all things on this earth 00:26:13.93\00:26:18.43 are not good, this is a problem. 00:26:18.43\00:26:21.00 I'm frustrated with the human race, it is not good, 00:26:21.00\00:26:24.46 it is not what it should be "but" then there is Noah. 00:26:24.46\00:26:27.86 And God unveils this carefully articulated plan to Noah 00:26:29.50\00:26:33.16 of saving grace inside of the ark. 00:26:33.16\00:26:36.96 To me there is a striking parallel here found in the 00:26:36.96\00:26:40.63 book of Romans. 00:26:40.63\00:26:42.36 When Paul was describing a bankrupt humanity he says 00:26:42.36\00:26:46.53 this, the wages of sin is death but, but the gift of God 00:26:46.53\00:26:50.66 is eternal life. 00:26:50.66\00:26:52.13 So you see just like Noah, God has a plan for your life. 00:26:52.13\00:26:55.30 The natural course would be for the earth and all its 00:26:55.30\00:26:59.10 habitants to be destroyed but, but then there is you. 00:26:59.10\00:27:02.83 You see God peers down from heaven, past all the 00:27:02.83\00:27:06.56 hatred, past all the bloodshed, past all the evils 00:27:06.56\00:27:09.96 in this world and sees one person He cannot live 00:27:09.96\00:27:13.33 eternally without, YOU! 00:27:13.33\00:27:17.80 So He humbled Himself. 00:27:21.76\00:27:23.86 He left His heavenly throne and walked and talked 00:27:26.33\00:27:28.63 like one of us. 00:27:28.63\00:27:30.30 Most did not appreciate Him, most did not have nice 00:27:32.50\00:27:36.40 things to say about Him. 00:27:36.40\00:27:37.96 The masses chose a thief over their Creator, but He 00:27:39.10\00:27:43.56 withstood it all for you. 00:27:43.56\00:27:46.03 They dragged Him to a hill called Calvary, 00:27:47.23\00:27:50.53 and there He hung on a cross for you. 00:27:50.53\00:27:54.16 Despite it all, YOU were worth it. 00:27:54.16\00:27:57.70 He knew if you did it you could choose to live 00:27:57.70\00:28:01.40 with Him for ever. 00:28:01.40\00:28:03.26 Jesus put a plan into motion to provide us hope. 00:28:03.26\00:28:07.40 Jesus is the hope of the world and everything 00:28:07.40\00:28:11.50 flows from there. 00:28:11.50\00:28:13.50 He is the constant, permanent answer to the evils 00:28:13.50\00:28:16.73 of this lost world and soon Jesus will come again and 00:28:16.73\00:28:19.93 part the clouds and therein lies the real hope 00:28:19.93\00:28:23.23 we can believe in as Christians. 00:28:23.23\00:28:25.93 Everything else, merely a Band-Aid. 00:28:25.93\00:28:28.60 Jesus paid it all, and He paid it all for you. 00:28:28.60\00:28:32.76 You are the treasure found in the field that was worth 00:28:32.76\00:28:35.93 selling it all for. 00:28:35.93\00:28:37.63 You were the Pearl in the marketplace that was worth 00:28:37.63\00:28:39.66 risking it all for. 00:28:39.66\00:28:41.20 Jesus paid it all, and He paid it all for you, 00:28:41.20\00:28:44.60 but you were worth every penny. 00:28:44.60\00:28:47.16 His gentle appeal is to accept Him as your Savior. 00:28:47.16\00:28:51.60 Don't put it off till tomorrow, choose you this day 00:28:51.60\00:28:56.00 whom you will serve. 00:28:56.00\00:28:57.40 So it gives us clues in the Bible as to when His soon 00:28:57.40\00:29:00.20 coming will be. 00:29:00.20\00:29:01.70 Like the days of Noah, not so you and I can pinpoint 00:29:01.70\00:29:06.13 the exact moment in time when Jesus returns, but so that 00:29:06.13\00:29:10.53 we can always be ready to meet Him. 00:29:10.53\00:29:13.60 Arthur Barclay in his book, The Gospel of Matthew, 00:29:13.60\00:29:18.46 had his pulse on this issue. 00:29:18.46\00:29:20.20 He said we must so live that it does not matter when He 00:29:20.20\00:29:23.83 comes, it gives us the task in this life for making every day 00:29:23.83\00:29:28.63 fit for Him to see and at any moment ready to meet 00:29:28.63\00:29:33.13 Him face to face. 00:29:33.13\00:29:35.70 All life becomes a preparation to meet the King. 00:29:35.70\00:29:39.86 For Noah it didn't matter when the rain would begin. 00:29:39.86\00:29:43.63 He received the instructions from God and he put it into 00:29:43.63\00:29:47.60 practice, once he encountered that saving grace from 00:29:47.60\00:29:51.56 God, everything was on the table. 00:29:51.56\00:29:54.40 You see the day Noah became unashamed about Christ was 00:29:56.46\00:30:00.80 the day he was unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:30:00.80\00:30:04.30 That friends is the foundation to a life lived unashamed 00:30:04.30\00:30:08.63 Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior lays the 00:30:08.63\00:30:12.40 ground work and preparation for being ready to live a 00:30:12.40\00:30:17.26 life 100% unashamed of the Gospel because the reality 00:30:17.26\00:30:21.53 is when you meet Jesus, everything is on the table. 00:30:21.53\00:30:25.73 Is it going to look weird to some people? Sure! 00:30:27.16\00:30:29.90 Will it look ill rational to others? Sure it will! 00:30:29.90\00:30:32.56 But, if they knew the end from the beginning, 00:30:32.56\00:30:34.70 if they knew the hope that was in you it would not 00:30:34.70\00:30:37.66 even be debatable. 00:30:37.66\00:30:39.73 When you accept Jesus as your Savior, 00:30:39.73\00:30:42.60 everything is on the table. 00:30:42.60\00:30:45.66 God looked down past the evil and found in Genesis the 00:30:45.66\00:30:49.83 evils of the world and He had compassion for Noah. 00:30:49.83\00:30:53.96 But the story goes on. 00:30:53.96\00:30:55.63 Genesis 6 and I want to read verse 13. 00:30:57.20\00:30:59.13 Genesis 6:13, "and God said to Noah, I have determined" 00:31:03.66\00:31:05.83 "to make an end of all flesh; for the earth is filled with" 00:31:05.83\00:31:08.40 "violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them" 00:31:08.40\00:31:10.93 "with the Earth. " 00:31:10.93\00:31:12.06 "Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the" 00:31:12.06\00:31:15.63 "ark and covered inside and outside with pitch. " 00:31:15.63\00:31:19.40 But on top of that Noah had another specific heavenly 00:31:19.40\00:31:24.46 job, he was to preach a bold message to the world. 00:31:24.46\00:31:28.40 God wasn't willing even at that time that any should 00:31:28.40\00:31:32.33 perish so He said Noah, preach to them all. 00:31:32.33\00:31:35.16 I want everyone and anyone who wants to accept this 00:31:35.16\00:31:38.10 saving grace of the ark, to be in that ark with you. 00:31:38.10\00:31:40.96 So Noah preached to the masses. 00:31:40.96\00:31:42.93 He said you have to get into this ark, you need Jesus, 00:31:42.93\00:31:46.76 you need a Savior, you need it. 00:31:46.76\00:31:48.63 It is particularly interesting to me the response he 00:31:48.63\00:31:53.23 gets, he is out there preaching for 120 years. 00:31:53.23\00:31:56.73 Listen with me, the rationale for not needing the ark. 00:31:56.73\00:32:01.83 Patriarchs and Prophets, page 96. 00:32:01.83\00:32:05.96 "The world before the flood reasoned that for centuries" 00:32:05.96\00:32:10.70 "the laws of nature had been fixed. They reasoned, that" 00:32:10.70\00:32:15.70 "as many reasoned, now that nature is not above God. " 00:32:15.70\00:32:20.63 "That our laws are so firmly established that God" 00:32:22.73\00:32:26.50 "Himself could not change them. They reasoned it would" 00:32:26.50\00:32:33.23 "be impossible for God to create a flood," 00:32:33.23\00:32:36.73 "God's not above nature. " 00:32:36.73\00:32:39.76 Catch the significance there? 00:32:39.76\00:32:42.70 They rationalized it in their mind, there's no creation, 00:32:42.70\00:32:47.00 God didn't create us. 00:32:47.00\00:32:50.46 If we could travel back in time, to the time of Noah, 00:32:50.46\00:32:53.53 I'm willing to venture this prediction. 00:32:53.53\00:32:55.36 We would go in and hear Noah preach and as people were 00:32:55.36\00:32:58.50 walking away from his preaching they would say, 00:32:58.50\00:33:00.70 Noah is loony, I mean listen here, you line up billions 00:33:00.70\00:33:04.66 of rabbits over billions of years and you'll see natural 00:33:04.66\00:33:08.60 selection take place. 00:33:08.60\00:33:10.40 God didn't create us, I mean we domesticated dogs, 00:33:10.40\00:33:14.90 come on and get real, Noah is loony. 00:33:14.90\00:33:19.63 God did not create us, we do not need a Savior, we do 00:33:19.63\00:33:23.00 not need the ark. 00:33:23.00\00:33:24.53 How many more could have been saved from the flood had 00:33:26.70\00:33:29.96 they just believed the creation story? 00:33:29.96\00:33:32.10 How many souls will be lost today because they throw out 00:33:33.63\00:33:37.30 the significance of a creator God? 00:33:37.30\00:33:41.96 Why make the same mistake they made in the past? 00:33:43.90\00:33:47.33 There is an appeal even in the flood story for us to 00:33:47.33\00:33:50.73 take a stance on creation. 00:33:50.73\00:33:53.66 Two issues glare at us as we look at this. 00:33:53.66\00:33:56.46 They rationalized in their mind, God cannot create 00:33:56.46\00:33:59.80 and God cannot destroy, both errors. 00:33:59.80\00:34:03.66 To me it is an essential building block of an unashamed 00:34:03.66\00:34:07.70 lifestyle, once you give up creation, 00:34:07.70\00:34:10.63 there is no end insight. 00:34:10.63\00:34:13.83 You convince a generation that God didn't create the 00:34:13.83\00:34:17.03 Earth in six literal days, you will be looking at the 00:34:17.03\00:34:20.20 last generation of Adventists. 00:34:20.20\00:34:22.13 You missed it again! 00:34:24.76\00:34:26.40 You convinced a generation that God didn't create the Earth 00:34:26.40\00:34:31.23 in six days you will look at the last generation 00:34:31.23\00:34:34.60 of Adventists. 00:34:34.60\00:34:36.10 If you throw out creation, we lose our relevancy. 00:34:36.10\00:34:39.63 The doctrine of creation is important. 00:34:39.63\00:34:42.86 It frustrates me of how arrogant we are as Christians. 00:34:42.86\00:34:46.26 We say God I will tell you what, 00:34:46.26\00:34:48.00 I'll weigh the scientific evidence and if You win, 00:34:48.00\00:34:50.96 I'll believe in creation. 00:34:50.96\00:34:53.50 We say we shall examine all the scientific evidence, 00:34:53.50\00:34:57.50 but we ignore one important source of evidence. 00:34:57.50\00:35:01.46 All the scientific evidence we should ever need is 00:35:02.83\00:35:06.40 recorded in the book of Genesis. 00:35:06.40\00:35:09.50 Awh Justin, that's fanatical. 00:35:09.50\00:35:12.50 You can not realistically expect me to believe the Bible 00:35:12.50\00:35:15.90 and then take it at its word, can you? 00:35:15.90\00:35:18.06 My response is this, you are not smarter than the enemy. 00:35:20.00\00:35:24.46 He used a talking snake in the Garden of Eden. 00:35:26.50\00:35:30.46 What kind of tricks do you think he has up his sleeve 00:35:30.46\00:35:32.96 for the Creation-Evolution debate? 00:35:32.96\00:35:35.20 Do you want a response from him, he has been waiting 00:35:38.33\00:35:41.00 for 6000 years for you to say okay God, 00:35:41.00\00:35:43.50 show me the scientific evidence, 00:35:43.50\00:35:45.36 or do you want a response from the Lamb? 00:35:46.83\00:35:49.00 Do you want to study science or biology? Fine! 00:35:51.10\00:35:54.30 Evolution-Natural Selection fine, but if at the end 00:35:54.30\00:35:58.10 of the day our only guide in light should be the Bible. 00:35:58.10\00:36:02.26 No scientific theory should be elevated above a clear 00:36:02.26\00:36:06.40 thus saith the Lord. 00:36:06.40\00:36:08.86 The word of God is clear in Genesis 1:1. 00:36:08.86\00:36:13.13 The pen of inspiration, letter 84, 1909. 00:36:13.13\00:36:17.33 "The divine mind and hand is preserved for the ages the" 00:36:17.33\00:36:20.86 "record of creation in its purity. It is the word of" 00:36:20.86\00:36:25.70 "God alone that gives us an authentic account of the" 00:36:25.70\00:36:30.53 "creation of the world. In the days of Noah the people" 00:36:30.53\00:36:34.83 "rationed that God couldn't create a flood. They stopped" 00:36:34.83\00:36:38.56 "believing God was the Creator and stopped believing" 00:36:38.56\00:36:42.26 "what God did in the past. " 00:36:42.26\00:36:44.50 So the idea of a worldwide flood was completely foreign 00:36:44.50\00:36:48.50 and the mockers came out of the woodwork. 00:36:48.50\00:36:52.60 But it didn't stop Noah. 00:36:54.93\00:36:56.86 They heckled him and said what are you doing, what's 00:36:56.86\00:36:59.76 your purpose, give it up Noah, the waters aren't 00:36:59.76\00:37:02.36 coming, the flood is impossible, building an ark is 00:37:02.36\00:37:04.96 impossible, but it didn't stop Noah. 00:37:04.96\00:37:09.23 Why? The day Noah became unashamed about Christ, was the 00:37:09.23\00:37:14.60 day he was unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:37:14.60\00:37:18.30 But listen closely! 00:37:18.30\00:37:20.73 A day will come in the future when pressure is amped 00:37:20.73\00:37:24.96 up for Christians. 00:37:24.96\00:37:27.80 Where peer pressure is elevated to a level that we have 00:37:27.80\00:37:31.33 never seen before, but my fear is this. 00:37:31.33\00:37:36.23 God's work goes undone because we would rather look cool 00:37:36.23\00:37:40.23 then listen to God's command. 00:37:40.23\00:37:44.00 How many classrooms, neighborhoods or workplaces go 00:37:45.40\00:37:50.36 unreached, untouched because of what we think others 00:37:50.36\00:37:55.26 will think of us? 00:37:55.26\00:37:57.13 Justin, you don't understand! 00:37:58.63\00:38:01.03 If I tell my classroom that I love Jesus, they are going 00:38:01.03\00:38:03.90 to think that I am weird. 00:38:03.90\00:38:05.60 If I tell my workplace I believe that Jesus is coming 00:38:06.63\00:38:09.30 soon, they will think I'm a little loony and never talk 00:38:09.30\00:38:11.90 to me again, so why even do it? 00:38:11.90\00:38:14.20 Listen if I tell my neighborhood that Jesus lives in my 00:38:14.20\00:38:17.43 heart they are going to think I'm strange. 00:38:17.43\00:38:21.86 I shudder to think how many souls will be lost because 00:38:23.33\00:38:27.90 of our perception of what others will think of us. 00:38:27.90\00:38:32.43 How many eternal destinies could have been altered had 00:38:34.63\00:38:37.13 we rose above peer pressure? 00:38:37.13\00:38:39.96 For Noah it did not matter, and it sure shouldn't 00:38:42.13\00:38:45.36 matter to you. 00:38:45.36\00:38:47.50 Others will think you're weird, get over it. 00:38:47.50\00:38:50.30 To think someone's eternal life is in the balance and 00:38:50.30\00:38:53.00 you are worried about getting your feelings hurt, 00:38:53.00\00:38:55.66 get over it. 00:38:55.66\00:38:58.03 To think Jesus died on the cross for your neighbor, 00:38:58.03\00:39:00.86 your classroom, your coworker, and you're worried about 00:39:00.86\00:39:03.70 your reputation so you go silent! 00:39:03.70\00:39:06.43 GET OVER IT! 00:39:06.43\00:39:09.80 To live a life unashamed is to live a life carefree of 00:39:09.80\00:39:14.13 popular opinion and worldly reputation. 00:39:14.13\00:39:17.30 You start caring about what God thinks of you. 00:39:17.30\00:39:20.26 When it comes to man or woman, get over it! 00:39:20.26\00:39:23.16 Noah was out building the ark, building it to the 00:39:25.53\00:39:28.93 specific dimensions God had instructed and they came 00:39:28.93\00:39:32.96 out by the droves to taunt him, but he paid no attention 00:39:32.96\00:39:36.93 to it. 00:39:36.93\00:39:38.36 He had at the forefront of his mind the picture of God 00:39:38.36\00:39:41.63 protecting him from the flood. 00:39:41.63\00:39:44.33 Men and women could laugh but he was only concerned 00:39:44.33\00:39:48.10 with God's opinion. 00:39:48.10\00:39:49.76 But notice with me, some of his most vocal doubters. 00:39:49.76\00:39:55.70 Patriots and Prophets, page 96. 00:39:55.70\00:39:58.70 Actually it started on 95 and into 96. 00:39:58.70\00:40:01.90 "Many profess to be worshipers of God. This class" 00:40:01.90\00:40:05.70 she says, talking about the worshipers of God, "were" 00:40:05.70\00:40:10.00 "foremost in rejecting the preaching of Noah. Their" 00:40:10.00\00:40:13.86 "minds had become so blinded by rejection of light that" 00:40:13.86\00:40:17.90 "they really believed Noah's message to be delusional. " 00:40:17.90\00:40:21.93 "The Christians were among the most to make" 00:40:21.93\00:40:26.10 "fun of Noah. " 00:40:26.10\00:40:27.70 There will come a day when Christians, when believers and 00:40:27.70\00:40:31.70 even Seventh-day Adventists will begin to question this 00:40:31.70\00:40:35.66 unashamed lifestyle. 00:40:35.66\00:40:37.46 Adventist will say, and are saying, God's flood was a 00:40:37.46\00:40:43.10 mistake, preach only love. 00:40:43.10\00:40:46.16 To judge the last generation? 00:40:49.20\00:40:51.53 Come on, not God! 00:40:51.53\00:40:53.76 The Gospel to the world, every nation, kindred, tongue, 00:40:55.56\00:40:59.66 and people, that is not even realistic. 00:40:59.66\00:41:01.80 It will happen, people will begin to say it and it 00:41:01.80\00:41:05.10 happens now but as time draws to a close it will happen 00:41:05.10\00:41:09.20 more and more, and I bring it up for this reason and 00:41:09.20\00:41:13.26 this reason alone, DON'T MISS THIS! 00:41:13.26\00:41:15.63 There is a proper way to deal with these people, and an 00:41:15.63\00:41:20.83 improper way to deal with them. 00:41:20.83\00:41:23.13 Testimonies to the Church, volume 6, page 151. 00:41:25.40\00:41:29.20 "Reformers are not destroyers. We will never seek to" 00:41:29.20\00:41:36.06 "ruin those who do not harmonize with our plans. God" 00:41:36.06\00:41:41.26 "desires us to have all who serve Him be firm as a rock" 00:41:41.26\00:41:45.43 "where principle is concerned, but meek and lowly of" 00:41:45.43\00:41:50.30 "heart as was Christ's. A rude, condemning spirit is not" 00:41:50.30\00:41:55.10 "essential to heroism in the reforms of this time. " 00:41:55.10\00:42:00.56 "All selfish methods, all ego driven methods in the" 00:42:00.56\00:42:06.20 "service of God are an abomination to His sight. " 00:42:06.20\00:42:11.76 An abomination to His sight, pretty strong choice of 00:42:13.50\00:42:17.13 words from the inspired pen. 00:42:17.13\00:42:19.43 When we assume the role of an unashamed lifestyle we 00:42:19.43\00:42:23.03 must check our egos at the door. 00:42:23.03\00:42:26.96 DON'T MISS THIS! This counsel is particularly relevant 00:42:28.40\00:42:32.93 for those who claim to be Bible conservatives. 00:42:32.93\00:42:36.90 Careful! One of the dangers we face is how we treat our 00:42:36.90\00:42:42.86 fellow Bible believing, conservative Adventist. 00:42:42.86\00:42:48.50 We have such egos when it comes to our perception of 00:42:50.10\00:42:54.40 interpretation of the truth that we despise those 00:42:54.40\00:42:58.70 who think differently. 00:42:58.70\00:43:00.96 We have no tolerance for them until they pass our 00:43:00.96\00:43:03.70 conservative witness tests, they are out of the herd. 00:43:03.70\00:43:08.63 We must learn to be gracious and charitable to another. 00:43:08.63\00:43:13.53 Listen to my words carefully! 00:43:13.53\00:43:16.06 If you cannot live with these people here on earth, 00:43:16.06\00:43:19.83 how are you going to do it in heaven? 00:43:19.83\00:43:21.76 Get a grip with yourself, think of what you are saying. 00:43:21.76\00:43:25.30 Until they think a certain way, until they act a certain 00:43:25.30\00:43:28.83 way, I'll have no respect for them? 00:43:28.83\00:43:31.03 When all along the way Jesus was willing to pay it 00:43:31.03\00:43:35.13 all for them. 00:43:35.13\00:43:36.43 Do you think you are above that brother or sister 00:43:38.16\00:43:40.70 simply because your perceived correct view of Scripture? 00:43:40.70\00:43:44.20 You have no business thinking you are above someone when 00:43:44.20\00:43:47.90 Jesus would stoop below both of you and hang on the cross. 00:43:47.90\00:43:51.60 Period! But here is another danger we face. 00:43:51.60\00:43:56.70 When we listen to a message, when we listen to a 00:43:58.10\00:44:01.20 particular point, we look around and see who does this 00:44:01.20\00:44:04.26 message best serve? 00:44:04.26\00:44:05.90 Oh, I'm glad he's saying this, yeah! 00:44:08.43\00:44:10.33 Preach it Justin, such and such really needs to hear it. 00:44:10.33\00:44:14.70 When you hear a point like this I would express an 00:44:14.70\00:44:19.16 appeal that we hear in a common song, not my brother, 00:44:19.16\00:44:24.23 not my sister, but it is me, oh Lord, standing in the 00:44:24.23\00:44:29.30 need of prayer. 00:44:29.30\00:44:31.10 Instead of pointing fingers, are you the one God is 00:44:31.10\00:44:34.23 trying to drive home a point to? 00:44:34.23\00:44:36.30 Some may say, well Justin it is easy for you to say, 00:44:36.30\00:44:39.53 you're the president of GYC, you are at the top of an 00:44:39.53\00:44:42.73 organization spawned to cleanse the church 00:44:42.73\00:44:45.26 once and for all. 00:44:45.26\00:44:47.13 No, no we are not, we are an organized army of young 00:44:47.13\00:44:53.43 people, meek and lowly of heart. 00:44:53.43\00:44:56.26 We abide in Christ, a rude and condemning spirit 00:44:56.26\00:45:00.10 is not essential. 00:45:00.10\00:45:02.20 Our single desire is to turn people, especially young 00:45:02.20\00:45:07.10 people, to the church. 00:45:07.10\00:45:08.73 I love my church and I only want to see more young 00:45:08.73\00:45:14.80 people involved in His work. 00:45:14.80\00:45:16.56 Never, never will GYC attempt to drive people away 00:45:16.56\00:45:20.13 from the Seventh-day Adventists Church, NEVER! 00:45:20.13\00:45:23.63 until Jesus comes again we will support the work and 00:45:23.63\00:45:26.76 the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:45:26.76\00:45:29.76 We met as an executive committee in February. 00:45:29.76\00:45:32.70 We ate together and prayed together and sang together. 00:45:32.70\00:45:36.36 There in a living room guided by, I believe God Himself, 00:45:36.36\00:45:40.00 we came up with a statement. 00:45:40.00\00:45:41.83 We started with the question, if someone came up to us, 00:45:41.83\00:45:44.43 on the street, and asked us the purpose of GYC, 00:45:44.43\00:45:47.40 what would our response be? 00:45:47.40\00:45:49.36 Here's what we came up with. 00:45:49.36\00:45:51.30 We want to get young people to make other young people 00:45:51.30\00:45:55.40 Adventist by inspiring, equipping, and mobilizing them. 00:45:55.40\00:45:59.40 In a sentence we condensed the mission of the Seventh-day 00:46:00.80\00:46:04.00 Adventist Church. 00:46:04.00\00:46:05.90 We want to get young people to make other young people 00:46:05.90\00:46:09.46 Adventist by inspiring, equipping and mobilizing them. 00:46:09.46\00:46:13.36 That is why we get up in the morning and serve GYC. 00:46:13.36\00:46:17.46 It is the reason we exist, to serve our church. 00:46:17.46\00:46:21.46 Back to the story of Noah, he didn't let the believers, 00:46:21.46\00:46:26.60 the Saints stop him. 00:46:26.60\00:46:28.23 He didn't let his ego get in the way of completing his task 00:46:28.23\00:46:31.36 given by God. 00:46:31.36\00:46:33.16 He didn't allow his ego to run his life, he kept 00:46:33.16\00:46:36.50 preaching, he kept working for God. 00:46:36.50\00:46:38.96 You want to be unashamed, keep preaching. 00:46:40.73\00:46:43.80 Keep working for God. 00:46:43.80\00:46:46.10 The day Noah became unashamed about Christ was the day 00:46:46.10\00:46:50.26 he was unleashed for the cause of Christ. 00:46:50.26\00:46:53.86 Noah went on building the ark in the face of adversity. 00:46:56.13\00:46:58.96 He was laughed at by the multitude, 00:46:58.96\00:47:00.66 but it did not stop him. 00:47:00.66\00:47:02.83 The believers told him to give it up, it's impossible 00:47:02.83\00:47:06.96 Noah, it's not going to happen, but he continually fixed 00:47:06.96\00:47:11.03 his eyes on Jesus. 00:47:11.03\00:47:13.00 He continually meditated and prayed on that saving grace 00:47:13.00\00:47:17.80 found in the ark. 00:47:17.80\00:47:19.40 For 120 years, Noah was preaching a warning message to 00:47:19.40\00:47:24.40 a world in need of a Savior. 00:47:24.40\00:47:26.93 Patriarchs and Prophets again, page 102. 00:47:28.56\00:47:31.23 "Before the flood God sent Noah to warn the world that" 00:47:31.23\00:47:36.33 "the people might be led to repentance and thus escape" 00:47:36.33\00:47:41.00 "the threatening destruction. As the time of Christ" 00:47:41.00\00:47:45.10 "second appearing draws near, the Lord sends His" 00:47:45.10\00:47:49.10 "servants with a warning to the world to prepare for" 00:47:49.10\00:47:54.50 "that great event. " 00:47:54.50\00:47:56.16 Let me read that again, at time of Christ's second 00:47:56.16\00:48:00.13 appearing draws near, as it is coming to a close, 00:48:00.13\00:48:03.66 as we are nearing the end of time, the Lord sends His 00:48:03.66\00:48:06.86 servants, I would proposal those servants are you and I, 00:48:06.86\00:48:10.00 with a warning to the world to prepare them for 00:48:10.00\00:48:14.00 that great event. 00:48:14.00\00:48:16.63 Noah continued to preach a warning message to the world. 00:48:16.63\00:48:20.36 He continued to work on the plan of God that had been 00:48:20.36\00:48:24.10 given to him to save others. 00:48:24.10\00:48:26.36 I love the picture we get of Noah in 1 Peter. 00:48:26.36\00:48:33.33 Turn with me in your Bibles to 1 Peter 3:20. 00:48:33.33\00:48:40.20 I'm going to read from the English Standard Version 00:48:48.56\00:48:51.26 because I like the way it renders it. 00:48:51.26\00:48:53.20 1 Peter 3:20, Noah had a message given to him by God. 00:48:53.20\00:49:00.76 God came to Noah and said, Noah I can look past all the 00:49:02.23\00:49:05.60 evils of this world, it is not a good situation but, 00:49:05.60\00:49:08.93 but there is you. 00:49:08.93\00:49:12.13 God does the same thing to you. 00:49:12.13\00:49:13.83 Looks past all the evils of the world and says but there 00:49:13.83\00:49:18.03 is you, please accept me today. 00:49:18.03\00:49:22.96
